Mad Jack
Sunday October 2nd, 2005 12:51:54 AM

Jack rolls out of bed early. The bed had been soft, and he had slept well. going down to the bar he orders a breakfast. Cheese and bread and cold clear water. He asks the innkeeper where this market of the Cresent Moon is. After he eats his fill, he left goes off wandering, checking out the shops, and orienting himself to the city. At one shop he buys 2 nooks on mafic use. They were thick, and would provide hours of reading.

As the noon hour was approaching, he had to ask several people, not having the sun to go by, he found himself in the market. Finding a seat, he begins to study the people in earnest.

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Sunday October 2nd, 2005 9:02:50 AM

[OOC to Berlon -- I have no problem with Berlon getting the weapon. But really the other PCs should agree too.]

In the morning, Vauhwyt hustles Vorelle, Rose, and Theo (who is sleeping over) through breakfast -- which is only mediocre if Rose does not make it, since Vauhwyt is no cook. The eggs Vauhwyt makes are a little runny, and the bread a little too toasty.

Then is it time to dress in decent clothes, pick up Berlon, and head to the Palace. Vauhwyt puts on her nice embroidered white shirt and her glowing scales earring. Vauhwyt hopes Rose notices that it is the one Rose made for her. She peace bonds her weapon, of course, while the group is underground.

As they walk to the Palace, Vauhwyt asks Berlon if he has any clue what the Yellow Potion is yet. If he tells her that it removes Intelligence, then she laughs and says, "Whoa! Keep that away from Mookie! He has precious little Intelligence as it is!"

Mookie says, "Ha ha. Funny as a broken rock, Boss. You really crack me up."

At the Palace, Vauhwyt looks for the usual guards and announces that she and her friends are here to report to the Prince on the mission on which he recently sent them."

Plans and Plots [SteveK]
Sunday October 2nd, 2005 11:02:46 AM

(OOC: Hello everyone from the sands of Kuwait! Army has kept me pretty busy and away from computers that can access the Wold. Right now, my access is limited to an Internet Cafe that has 20,000 other Soldiers all wanting to use it as well. Since this is the case, I'm going to do my Monday post early. I apologize for the missed post for many of you because of the change. :) )

Morning in the City Below, and the people awake to begin rebuilding and renewing thier lives. As Mad Jack, Zayne, Berlon, Vauhwyt, Theodore, Vorelle, and Rose move outside thier respective living areas, they can see the destruction of thier City and the hope of renewal. (Sense Motive or Local Knowledge check DC 15; Highlight to display spoiler: { and a sense of unrest and growing anger }

Moving through the tunnels of the City Below, you are able to see the affect of the Fey King's rampage. Vines and roots choke tunnels, walls in some have collapsed forcing detours to other less well known areas. Funerals are plentiful in the City as well; for though many people were saved by the antidote, many also succumbed to the insidious natural attack by the Fey King.

When questioned, one of the workmen responds in short gasps while working. "If'n dey 'ave glim or mates to see 'em right; well dey gen'rally 'ave der own place, ya see." He tosses a body on his wheelbarrow and wipes his forehead with a dirty rag. "If'n like dis one", pointing a meaty thumb at his barrow, "'ees 'auled up ter der battlefield an' der is a hole what been dug where we toss 'em in." The man shrugs and gets back to his work.

Yet hope springs anew, even in Dirt City. At the entrance of homes, people are clearing the vines, sweeping the loose dirt out of their apartments. In the tunnels, work gangs (usually headed by a House member of one sort or another) are shoring up the tunnels and paring the roots.

And children are out and about in the City Below, running with brush and dye, until they find a newly smoothed wall and begin painting over every inch they can find. Inept and expert, cute and horrid, the mural is dependant on the child, yet most elect to draw something happy, somthing that will give them hope for the future. And one girl is drawing eight figures with armor and weapons, two of them short and one looking like a smeary centaur...

Dietrich: Highlight to display spoiler: { The Bear has nearly reached his journey's end into the Windborne Hills, the familiar sights and sounds of his early years come back to him full force. Hills, trees, and small brooks here have little that is changed since the last time you were here. And up ahead, your destination... }

Zayne: Highlight to display spoiler: { Getting away from the others for a short period of time could be a good idea. It allows Zayne to renew his street contacts and the ties that are so very important to survival in the City... }

Mad Jack; Highlight to display spoiler: { Finishing breakfast, Mad rises to go out when the bartender meets him at the door. "Peace tie your weapon before going into the City Below", he warns Mad Jack, "Mural Day is around the corner and I'll not have any blood on my door."

Wandering about the City you get a feel of the people and ever swirling dirt. Asking for the Cresent Moon Market gets you looks ranging from pity to assessment, and once you hear a bet going on behind you on how long it will take before Mad Jack will be robbed blind.

Two hefty books on magic are yours after a little dickering with the shopkeep. "I'll give you the purple one for 30gp, and the Green leather for 50gp. A bargain, these are, at this price!" (Reduce your money accordinly)

Mad Jack finds the Market and sees that it isn't nearly as busy as it could be; many people are obviously cleaning instead of buying. As such, it is easy to see Thurid in leather breeches, green shirt and a hunter's cap with a white feather in it as she walks past at a liesurely pace. When she is close enough, she whispers "Follow Me", and continues on her path.
}

All Others; Highlight to display spoiler: { Gathering at Berlon's alchemical shop, the group moves off towards the Prince's residence. A collapsed tunnel forces you to the City Above, there to continue the last few steps in the open air and swirling dust. (Spot DC 12 to see what looks like Mad Jack moving out of sight around a corner with a serious looking girl...)

The Prince's Men look tough but undisciplined in a motley assortment of armor and weapons, and nothing is wrong with thier intelligence either. "Da 'eroes." one of them says to his buddies, and the dozen men laugh. The talker walks forward and talks to the group in general. "Yer on the list to be expected. Jarl here will take you in.

Jarl turns out to be a lanky human over six and a half feet tall who holds a bastard sword like a toothpick. Without a word he moves off, letting you follow as best you are able, into the heart of the Prince of Thieves Castle.

Rose
Sunday October 2nd, 2005 1:52:10 PM

When Rose awakes there are tearstains on her face and her eyes are so sad. She mechanically gets dressed in her nicest clothes, straightens Vauhwyts shirt, and tells Vorelle to put on something a little nicer. And goes with the others, if the vines and stuff gets to thick she'll ask Vauhwyt to carry her.

Theodore and Macaw  d20+9=28 d20+4=5
Sunday October 2nd, 2005 3:23:59 PM

He dresses in his finest white robe that he had purchased some months ago. For once, he looks somewhat dapper, save for his hair.

Theodore sighs as he surveys the destruction and the anger caused by it. "This is perhaps the last thing Dirt City needs right now." (Local Knowledge 28)

He follows Jarl, a tight feeling taking hold of his stomach as they enter the Prince's domain.

Vauhwyt and Mookie  d20+2=20 d20+4=18 d20+2=10 d20+14=26
Sunday October 2nd, 2005 3:55:26 PM

Vauhwyt walks through the streets underground, and as she watches the funerals and sees the destruction, she fingers the Acorn in her pocket marked with the rune that means death to the Fae King, and she is glad she chose that one.

Her perception is finely-tuned today [OOC: Sense Motive check is a 20], and her own emotions match those of many others -- so it is clear to her that people are angry.

"Do you sense it?" she asks her friends. "There is rage in the city. There is only one cure for this. The people need justice. They need closurre. They need to strike down the Fae King and his minions, so that this cannot happen again."

Vauhwyt sees the girl's drawing of what is probably meant to be her and her friends. The liontaur's scowl deepens. "We don't need to be on any wall," she mutters.

"Boss, you're that girl's hero!" says Mookie.

"Lem's Lumps! I'm no hero!" The liontaur marks this place in her head and vows to return at night to erase this mural.

Above ground, she sees Mad Jack. [Rolled a Wis check, a 10, to see if she intrudes.] "Hey Jack," she calls. If she can, she will invite him to come to the Palace. Or if he will not, then to meet them tonight -- how about at the Blue Eel, tonight?

At the Palace, it does not make Vauhwyt happy to hear the armed men call her and her friends heroes. "Hero Schmero!" she says to the warriors, visibly irked. "We work for cash, and we earned ours while you were under your beds hiding from the fairies and butterflies. We'll have the Prince's reward when we come back out, so if anyone wants to double their salary, we'll be looking for porters. We could use some guards, too, if any of you know where some men with courage can be found." She looks the guards up and down. "Nah, no way, forget that last part."

[Intimidate check 26 includes a +4 size bonus]

She leads the way past the bums into the Palace.

Mookie whispers, "Boss, is that smart to tick off the Prince's guards?"

"Hush up, Mookie!" says Vauhwyt.

Vorelle  d20+2=5
Sunday October 2nd, 2005 10:40:39 PM

Vorelle had really put her best foot forward for her meeting with the Prince. She donned the pretty shirt Rose made for her, along with a clean jacket and a pair of trousers that she only wears in town. She had cleaned her boots and re-braided her hair.

Of course, she then spoiled the entire effect by throwing her old, oversized cloak on top of the whole thing, effectively hiding her entire outfit.

She does not sense the dangerous mood of the city, but listens soberly as Vauhwyt explains it. She would like to believe that the people need Justice, but she is desperately afraid that most of them would settle for a good stiff drink and somebody to smack around. This is Dirt City, after all.

But she doesn't really have time to worry about all that; she's too busy worrying about seeing the Prince. She looks about her uneasily as she follows Jarl through the stone hallways, wondering if she'll ever come out again.

Mad Jack
Monday October 3rd, 2005 12:38:24 AM

Jack spots Thurid. He chuckles as she walks by, telling him to follow her. Since she obviouslt wants to keep their meeting secretive, Javk follows her nonchalantly. He continues looking at the wares in the market as he walks.

Berlon
Monday October 3rd, 2005 4:44:41 PM

"You people dress up for this guy?" Berlon asks, shaking his head.

As the group is presented before the Prince's men, Berlon howls with laughter, joining in with the guards laughs. He continues a few awkward seconds after the rest of the laughs die down.

"Heh, woooo! Thanks, guys, I needed a good laugh. Just this morning I helped bury one of my neighbor's children. She was three, I think. I was a little sad, but it's good to know you guys can laugh in the face of so much death and destruction."

As the group moves on again with Jarl, Berlon starts hooting and guffawing even louder.
