Decending (DM/Al) Thursday September 8th, 2005 8:42:29 PM Sly takes charge of the doll of Ilsidur, saving the dwarf from doggy slobber.
Peerimus suggests keeping the cleric in Sly's magic chest. He contemplates the party's loss.
Savin jokes, attempting to lighten the mood. "We cannot even think of wedding," Celine answers the monk, ",until the division between our houses is resolved. Tarleth will be required to answer for the theft, even after he is rescued." The noble of House Stizein looks away. "If he is rescued."
Niobe keeps aloof from all. There is nothing here for her. These people, this place ... The sooner they can return the better.
Firn'gaer continues his work on the Vision of Noxnyx, attempting to widen his field of vision. The view seems to broaden and drop away. The small glowing figures that are he and his companions shrink in size and distort. They are swallowed by a sea of shifting angles and lines that shoot across the screen. Nothing save the party corresponds to anything identifiable in the physical world. And, though he can still identify the party on the screen, it is difficult to tell how far away his point of view is. It is decidedly possible to broaden the field of vision. How useful that may be is a question for the future.
As the party enters the ramp, Jaeden drops back, taking up a rear guard position.
Lady Silverhand moves with the group in silence.
The ramp disgorges onto Trash Level, and true to it's name, the streets are pile with garbage. Solid refuse from construction and manufacture, litter the streets. Soft pulpy mounds of rotting food and human filth rise in drifts against the sides of buildings.
And the smell. Oh, the smell. The smell hits the party like a wall of rot and corruption. (Fort Save vs DC15 or lose your breakfast.)
People live here?
The light here is dimmer. The light from the magic ceiling to the level gives only the barest of lights, and there is no attempt to mimic the sky above. The buildings are lower here as well. (Yes, people live here.) None of the buildings is over two stories tall, and the roof of the level appears to give not much clearance above that. In the streets, between mounds of stinking waste, beams, boxes and moldy blankets are fashioned into makeshift hovels. People lived in these streets. Not now, however.
All are empty now. The streets are empty of human life. All are fled, in hiding, or carried off to feed or fertilize.
Lorbius guides the group south along the larger streets. When the road turns east, he raises a hand for a halt.
"Thug Road," he announces. "From here, we will be in extreme danger." He looks to Firn'gaer holding the strange artifact.
Nothing shows upon the Vision of Noxnyx. Nothing that resembles the signature of the party members. There is no choice, but to continue on.
[OoC: From here on out, I would highly recommend Spot and Listen checks Every Round. Hide and Move Silently would also be advisable. Everyone except for those of elven descent are reduced to 60 feet of vision. Scent is no longer reliable.]

The filth of the lower levels causes a gag reflex from the gnome. Only his greater constitution keeps him from adding his own to the refuse. This sight has tarnished the legend of the floating city in the wizard's eyes. Even the worst slums were never this bad he thinks.
Keeping hidden from sight, even Rufus is distraught by the what he sees and smells. Perhaps his awakened state or even his years of luxury but the only words squeek, I never want to come back again!
"I know." Is all that is replied to the rodent's displeasure.
"This may a good time for this." He calls his rod and using it casts a spell. Reveal the Unseen is cast and invisible things are now known to the minute mage.
The wizard nodds as the druid acknowledges to be his eyes. The gnome must keep his attention trained on the artifact. Again he says little to the others or the new comers. When there's time he says to himself. When there's time.

Entering Thug Road (DM/Al) Saturday September 10th, 2005 8:06:35 AM
The group enters the Thug Road area.
Selena and Savin scout ahead, both refreshingly free of their previous meals. Both move with Stealth.
The main party lags behind with little attempt to conceal their presence.
The group proceeds down the main road. Two story buildings, line the road, built right up against each other. Many show signs of collapse, their structures now dangerously unsound.
Dalek has difficulty adjusting to the smell, and so he is the only one who does not notice that the streets here seem clear of the bodies of plant creatures. By the scuffs in the filth of the streets, though, there does appear to have been fighting here within the past three days or so. Someone has cleared them away. Someone is in charge here.
Firn'gaer, gliding silently above the ground focuses on the image in the Vision. Up ahead, he can see the impressions of his two comrades as they scout the way ahead. So far, though, no sign of anything but the party.
[OoC Stuff] I have Selena and Savin scouting ahead. How far ahead do you want to scout? Are you at 50 feet? Remember, visibility is 60 feet unless you have Elven Sight. Please indicate this or I will place you where I wish.
Selena, I would say that you are *not* invisible now. Correct? Keep in mind, that if you are invisible, Savin does not know where you are.

The main body of the party keeps to 50 feet behind the scouts as they advance down the street. Sly and Luke keep alert, but the dirt and filth is distracting, and it is difficult to concentrate.
Jaeden sees nothing threatening from behind. The figher directs his attention, instead, to the pair of Floating City nobles. Lorbius moves his eyes in all direction, questing for danger. He moves with fluid economy, but the man's bulk makes him a difficult figure to hide. Celine moves with equal grace, nearly concealed within the shadow of her betrothed. To Jaeden, her face is a mask of worry. Both nobles seem extremely sincere in their pursuit of the current endeavor.
Savin scouts forward in short bursts, He moves on silent feet, catching every little sound. His eyes fail him in this dim light, and he does not find the shadows as readily.
Peerimus sends a cautious word after his companion and leads the group down the narrow street, made crowded by the group's presence.
Firn'gaer splits his time between the screen and his surroundings. The gnome's low light vision may make a difference under these dim conditions. He moves his feet in an approximation of walking. He swings the perspective of the Vision to the south, and suddenly, there is a reading. It exhibits the same patterns and coloration as his companions. It registers as small, and faint but concentrated. As Firn'gaer looks up from the screen, he sees to the south, a solid wall of buildings. What ever it is, it is beyond those buildings. Looking up the road, there is a narrow alley about 120 feet further on.
Savin, from his scouting position, can see the alley as well with his normal human sight.
And then, there is a sound. Sly Foxx, Dalek, Peerimus, Yorrick, Savin, and Firn'gaer hear it. The crunch of steps that do not belong to the party.
Savin, up ahead, sees nothing.
Those in the main party with normal sight see nothing either.
Dalek whickers softly, having seen a flash of movement. Yorrick sees nothing. Sly sees nothing. Luke is completely in the dark. Firn'gaer spots the movement.
Lorbius slows and turns casually as though to brush the filth from his sleave.
"On the roof," the Lord whispers. "Across from the alley. It has frozen and is no longer moving. We are most surely spotted. Though what is up there may be no more than a look out."

Ahead of the group, the scouts are yet unaware of the watcher on the roof. They are too far ahead to have heard Lord Lorbius. Savin, however has already heard the sound of something moving from up ahead and above. The sound, now, has stopped.
Lady Silverhand stops. Activating her ring, she vanishes and then searches the street for danger.
Peerimus takes a slower pace, but continues down the street with the awareness that any drastic change in the party's behavior may trigger an alarm.
Jaeden and Dalek continue on at the rear. The street is silent and murky to their senses.
As everyone strains to see or hear traces of the watcher:
Firn'gaer is the only one to pick up a slight creak of leather. It comes from the same general area as the sound before.
Lorbius is the only one who sees. "There is movement," he says in a deep rumbling whisper. "Slow waving. I think there is someone signaling. Trying to signal without being seen."
The leaders of the main party are 80 feet from the alley. The Scouts are 60 feet from the alley.

It is from ahead and up above. But where? He rushes down the street, with an eye to the walls as he goes. The same rose vines that ran up the outside of the Giggling Ghost are here as well. But where to go up? (I rolled a 20 foot radius for you.) Savin picks a spot and begins to climb.
Jaeden, suspecting that the signal indicates an attack from the rear, executes a smart turn with Dalek to face the rear. The hiss of steel sliding on steel cuts a path through the air as his Greatsword leaves its sheath. He sees nothing through the half gloom. "I caught the barest of glimpses of a hand waving," Lorbius answers the fighter, "I could not tell in which direction it was waving." (Not a high enough Spot last round.)
Firn'gaer informs the group of the Signature picked up by the Vision of Noxnyx somewhere to the south. Lady Celine says nothing in reply to the gnomish wizard's look, but the way her hands clutch each other, and the look in her eyes, speaks volumes to her worry and uncertainty. Firn'gaer reads from a scroll, and becomes invisible.
Peerimus stops, halting the main body of the party as Savin runs down the street and out of the range of his limited human vision. Lady Silverhand is also no longer visible. What could be up there? The druid suspects someone of possible peaceful intent. A welcome turn of events. If true.
Lady Silverhand moves down the street with arrow nocked. She watches as the monk climbs, covering his ascent, ready to shoot at any attacker. (I'm assuming that you have declared a Ready Action. Just this time, though. In the future, I will not unless it is explicitly stated that you wish a Ready action, and also state what the trigger for that Action is.)
Nobody sees a thing in the shadows atop the roof. The shadows are no more than shadows.
The only indication that something might still be there is the soft creak of leather picked up by Savin, Firn'gaer, and Lady Celine.
Savin tops the roof and looks over the edge. Ten feet to the west is a dark creature with large green eyes, the pupils vertically aligned. The monk scrambles over the edge.
Black fur and short ears, Savin faces a Werecat. Crouched low on its haunches, it appears to have been attempting to hide from the party below while at the same time attempting to signal ... somebody. The combination appears awkward. There is the briefest flash of hesitation on its furry face before it draws a thin blade and leaps to the attack. (Hit AC25, Damage 6hp)
Now that the Werecat sentry has emerged from hiding, he is visible to various degrees to everyone below except for Peerimus and Jaeden with their human eyesight, and Dalek who is facing the other way.
Lady Silverhand, ready for just such a thing, fires an arrow at the Werecat at the same time that it lunges at Savin. (Hit AC19) The arrow glances off the leather of the Werecat's armor and flies off into the night. (Note, there was no Penalty for firing into Melee this time, as you fired at the same time as the Werecat attacked. Now, Savin and the Werecat are in Melee. Further ranged attacks take a -4 penalty.)

Savin decides that he doesn't want to be up on this rooftop alone with a werecat and wants to get closer to his friends. He decides to soften the "cat" cat up with some attacks first and then attacks with a flurry of blows.
His third attack is a bullrush trying to push the cat and himself off the roof. He pushes as hard as he can and if he falls will use his slow fall feat to slow his fall.
OOC OK Al, here we go. I powerattacked using +5 on my three attacks. I hit ac 17 and 26 for 17 and 24 points of damage. I rolled to hit for the bullrush hitting ac 17. Not sure if I had to as I don't see where it says you need to hit for a bullrush but did it just in case. Also gave myself -5 for the powerattack but not sure if that was necessary. Rolled a strength check of 24. Do I get pluses if I powerattacked on the bullrush?
[You don't need to Hit for a Bull Rush. But here's the rule: "You can make a bull rush as a standard action (an attack) or as part of a charge." That means that if you want to do the Bull Rush, you don't get your other attacks. As an added note, with the Woldian Rules on Bull Rush there is no AoO taken against Savin.
Are you sure that you want to forgoe the attacks and perform the Bull Rush? If you do not respond I will assume that is the case. -- Al ]

Up above and to the right, the druid sees two dim figures fighting at the edge of the roof. One is dark and the other light. Yorrick sees clear as a bell, the Savin man is fighting a ... Looks like cat. Peerimus calls on the strength of the Father. The rose vines that cover the street and the mouth of the alley harden, hiding sharp unyielding edges. To all appearance, they have not changed. Yorrick opens his mouth showing massive canines, prepared to defend his friend against all comers.
Jaeden and Dalek hold their position. The armored warrior prepares a series of deadly strikes for anything that should attack out of the gloom.
Savin takes a five foot step for a better angle. Then he drives forward, slamming into the dark form of the Werecat. He feels stiff leather armor and soft fur before the Wold drops away from beneath his feet and both he and the Werecat begin to fall. Vision turns to crazy angles, but the monk's hand reaches out and touches the wall. And that's all he needs. The Werecat drops like a stone, yowling all the way down.
Lady Silverhand puts up her bow. With a command word, she activates her ring and once again, vanishes. She prepares to climb the wall. (Stow Bow = Move Equivalent Action. Activate Ring = Standard Action.)
Celine approaches Firn'gaer. She looks into the screen of the Vision of Noxnyx. "Please show me which is my brother," she asks with concern. "Can you see if he is well?"
Lorbius watches the fight up above. From the corner of his eye, he follows Peerimus as the druid moves forward, and he notes that Peerimus has places some form of spell across the street ahead. The lord holds his position, Flail in one hand, kukri in the other.
The Werecat tucks and rolls as it hits the ground. (Tumble 29) There is a thud as its body hits the street. (Damage 6hp Negated by DR) But when it rolls to it's feet, it appears undamaged. Eyes wide, it hisses and runs for the alley. Another yowl splits the gloom as the Werecat enters the area of Spiked Growth. It's movement slows. (Reflex 14 vs DC18) But it appears, otherwise, undamaged (Damage 7hp Negated by DR). ** Due to Revisions C1 is actually at Square V13 **

In the rear, Jaeden sees nothing. On the screen of the Vision of Noxnyx, the Chaos signiture to the south does not move. Aside from the single Werecat, the party sees nothing else.

Savin winces as the thorn tears into his leg and then he hears warning. He briefly thinks about chasing down the werecat but then wonders what he would do if he caught it. He really doesn't want to catch that disease. He is in fact creeped out by it.
He has worked up his immunity to most diseases but lycanthropy is insiduous. He ability to direct his bodies defenses is useless. He decides to let the others chase it down. He scambers up the wall taking advantage of the vines and pulls himself over. (Climb 23)

With his senses, he searches for signs of ambush. He finds none. (BTW, sorry. Forgot that you were invisible.)
Lady Silverhand foregoes her climb. In the blink of an eye, her bow is again in her hand. The twang of a bow sounds twice in quick succession, and the mysterious woman in dark leather suddenly becomes visible again. Her two arrows make for their mark, but both are turned away by the Werecat's leather armor.
Peerimus warns Savin about the spell that fills the street. He holds Yorrick back as he casts a protective spell upon himself.
Jaeden holds the rear, providing an offensive shield to Niobe, Sly and Luke, while action fills the street behind him. Neither he nor Dalek detect anything.
Savin feels the sting of the Spike Growth spell, and swiftly climbs back up the wall to the roof. From that vantage, he looks across the street. His human eyes make out the shape of the alley across the way. What is within, however, is hidden in the gloom of Trash Level. (60 feet visibility) Behind the monk, however, some 20 feet back from the edge of the roof, two wooden poles have been mounted on the roof. There is a line strung between them, possibly used on which to hang drying clothes. The poles appear sturdy, and must surely be fairly securely anchored to the roof. (STR check, please to pull one up.)
Lorbius races forward, but stops short, unsure of the effects or the extent of 'Ward' laid down by the druid, Peerimus.
To the rear, Celine quietly intones a spell, and an invisible force wraps her body in armor.
Peerimus holds back his friend. Yorrick, however, is having none of it. The bear sees prey running before him, and the hot, red instincts built in him by both the Father and the Mother push away the weak domestic commands. The brown bear bounds forward. His friend will understand. The surging power of Nature grown strong calls to Yorrick, and he must answer. Propelled by the magic given him by his friend, Yorrick crosses the distance between himself and the Cat-thing. The bear feels pain from the vines beneath his feet as he enters the area of Spike Growth. (Damage 6hp, Reflex 24) But, Yorrick avoids most of the damaging effects, and keeps his speed. The big bear reaches out with one paw to pull his pray into a crushing bear hug. (Claw AC32, Damage 5 w/DR, Grapple from Improved Grab 20 - Nat 1) Yorrick's paw strikes, but the claws fail to sink, and the Werecat twists away.
On pained and injured feet, the Werecat flees slowly across the Spike Growth covered street. (Damage 4 w/DR) The yowls from its throat sound like calls for help.
Nothing answers.

He urges Sly, Niobe, and Celine to action. He stands ready for anything. *Anything* Nothing comes.
Savin shouts down from the rooftop, calling for quick action. He pulls one of the wooden posts up out of the roof. With the line pulled off the top, and the crusts of line cleared from the bottom, it makes a fairly stout staff. Still on the roof, Savin prepares to drop over the edge and join his friends.
Lady Silverhand inquires as to what the group will do next. She is of the impression that her silver arrows are of no use.
Peerimus dismisses his Spiked Growth spell and attempts to call Yorrick back.
From the middle of the air, an invisible Firn'gaer chides the group mildly for their overly forward approach. He casts a spell that blocks the alley, trapping the lone Werecat on the outside. (How high would you like your wall?)
Yorrick here's his friend as though from a very distant place. It is small and calls weakly. The primal urge to hunt is on him now. It drowns out his friend's voice. Drowns it out in the scented of blood. Yorrick lopes the short distance to the cat-thing, and aims another swipe with a claw. (Claw AC28, Damage 4hp w/DR, Grapple 32, Grapple Damage 8hp w/DR) This time Yorrick sweeps the Werecat into his grasp and crushes the creature with his weight.
There is the sound of metal on stone as the Werecat drops it's rapier. With its claw it attacks. (Claw AC13, AC4) Both attacks fail to penetrate Yorrick's natural armor.
Lorbius cautiously approaches the battling bear and Werecat. He is conscious of not only the danger from the Werecat Rogue, but also from the bear, with prey in his arms. He gingerly tests the ground to ensure there is no trace of the druid's spell.
As Lorbius moves forward, so too, does Celine. On her face is the desire to speak. But she remains silent, recognizing that this is the time for action.
The party all stand ready, poised for an attack. Their ears strain for the sound of running feet. Their eyes search the half-gloom. Neither do either of the two nobles detect a thing.
Nothing comes. The only sounds are those of Yorrick and the Werecat as they roll, locked in life and death combat.
Firn'gaer, the closet, looks down the dark alley. From his angle, he can just see past the corner. The alley seems to take a very slight westerly turn. But, from what he can see, appears otherwise unremarkable.

Finally convinced that there will be no attack from the rear, Jaeden urges his mount down the street. As Dalek heads toward the alley, Jaeden draws a glowing rock and throws it into the mouth of the alley. It brings light to a 40 foot circle. It brings the fight between Yorrick and the Werecat into full visibility, even from those much further down the street. Unfortunately, the overall effect is also to cast a deeper darkness into the alley further beyond.
Niobe follows silently after Jaeden. Her bow springs into her hand. Her eyes scan the roof for attackers.
Peerimus moves into the dim fringes of the light cast by Jaeden's stone. He watches as Yorrick continues to maul the Werecat. The Werecat struggles and yowls loudly. Somewhere in the back of Yorrick's ursine mind, he wonders why his attacks are not doing as much damage as they usually do.
Savin comes skittering down, trailing one hand against the wall of the building. Staff in hand, he swiftly and silently crosses the street. The monk hides around the corner, but he also stands within the glow of Jaeden's glowing stone. His eyes search for the foes that he knows must be down the alley.
Lady Silverhand crosses down the street to the side of Lady Celine. Her eyes, like Niobe's, scan the roofline for enemies. Her bow string is taut, a shot ready.
With everyone else headed down the street, Luke hurries off to the aide of his friend, Yorrick. Sly follows at a slower pace.
As Firn'gaer climbs higher into the air, to the level of the rooftops, he urges Peerimus not to allow Yorrick to kill the Werecat. There may be information to be had from the creature. In a loose U shape, the invisible gnomish wizard inspects the alley, as he pulls back away.
"He may speak," Lorbius says. "We are not immune from ... persuasion. Do you hear Cat? You have broken with the Code, and you will now pay the price. If you care nothing for the safety of others, then we owe you a debt of neither brotherhood nor loyalty."
Celine too moves to a place where she can see down the alley. Her eyes peer into the darkness.
Those with a clear line of sight down the alley see, as Firn'gaer, did before, that it turns more south some 75 feet in. The walls within visual distance are stained and bare. No windows or doors are in evidence. Beyond is a patchwork of shadows.
Firn'gaer's gnomish ears twitch. It could be his imagination. But then again, he might just have heard something down the alley. Savin, on the other hand, is convinced that he heard soft unidentifiable sounds, even over the nearby fight.
The Werecat, this time, instead of repeating his futile attacks against the giant bear, struggles instead to escape. (Escape Artist 29 vs DC31) The Werecat fights madly to wriggle from Yorrick's grasp. Very nearly, it slips away. Nearly, but not quite.

Personally the druid is not sure he wants to stop Yorrick form killing the creature, and then, of course, he is not sure he can given recent events. Firn'gaer though likely has a better grasp for the tactics in this, so he decides he will attempt it. Also Loribus seems to think the action well founded.

Ring Around the Werecat (DM/Al) d8+11=16 d8+11=18 d20+16=25 d20+16=19 Wednesday September 21st, 2005 10:02:39 PM Jaeden and Dalek move to a place from which they can see much better down the alley. They stand ready for a wave of attackers. None come.
Lady Silverhand follows behind the mounted warrior. After a warning to this strange new group to which she's fallen in with, she activates her ring and disappears. Again she scans the rooftops for attack. (She wouldn't fit in X11, so I opted for Y11)
Avoiding the stinking debris to the greatest extent that she is able, Niobe slinks toward the wall and hides in the shadows.
Sly draws his magic longsword, and takes a stance next to Dalek. He stands ready to repel any attack from the horse's flank.
Luke, on the other hand, rushes in and sinks his fangs into the Werecat while it is held grappled within Yorrick's paws. The wardog shakes and tears at the cat, but this cat is made of tough stuff, and it resists all damage.
Savin activates his magic tattoo, and the wooden laundry pole glows momentarily in his hands. The monk rounds the corner and moves smoothly and silently down the alley and straight into Firn'gaer's invisible wall. (Take 1d6 damage.) It hurts, feeling just like a short unexpected fall.
Peerimus once again attempts to dissuade his friend from attacking the Werecat. His words have more force this time, but still cannot break through Yorrick's natural instinct to fight his prey until it is subdued. (Haven't told you until now, but all Handle Animals in times of excitement or agitations has the DC of a Push.) Yorrick continues to savage the Werecat. (Damage 6 and 8 w/DR) Yorrick growls at Luke. Red rents show through the Werecat's black fur and it is matted with its own blood. (BTW, Greater Magic Fang is still active on Yorrick, isn't it?)
Lorbius notes Savin's sudden stop, before he circles cautiously around Yorrick's flank, ensuring that he is in plain sight. The noble makes snuffling noises, and shakes his head in a sideways motion. Yorrick eyes Lorbius, and he still does not release the Werecat.
"You know me, Cat?" the Lord asks. "You know that it would be a simple thing for me to capture and bind you, without danger from the Curse. Submit. Submit without condition."
Celine crosses to the edge of the light. "Where is my brother," she hisses. "What have you done with him?"
There is movement from within the alley. Dalek, Sly, Savin and Peerimus all hear it. A shuffle of feet, perhaps. Or a whisper of voices. Perhaps the movement of leather.
Savin and Firn'gaer are the only ones near enough to see, but there, at the very distant edge of their vision is a dark blotch upon the second floor of the eastern side of the alley. In many ways it is no different than the other dark blotches of stain and decay that cover the walls. This one, though, seems a bit too regular in shape.

The Werecat Speaks (DM/Al) d8+9=11 d20+16=23 d20+16=33 Thursday September 22nd, 2005 10:03:48 PM
The group closes in on the fight between cat and bear and the mouth of the alley.
Jaeden and Dalek hold a position in the street, readying from attack from any quarter. The fighter's mound informs him of what he hears.
Invisible, Lady Silverhand skirts the rear of the group for a better vantage down the alley. Her human eyesight does not allow her much detail beyond the spill of Jaeden's glowing stone.
Niobe creeps to the edge of the light. Still hiding in the shadows, she listens and waits.
Luke leaves the prey to the larger bear and returns to Sly's side. Both remain by Jaeden's side, ready for any attack.
Savin circumvents Firn'gaer's wall by climbing the rose vines that climb the walls as well as he. The monk manages to wedge the laundry pole uncomfortably between his back and his magic haversack, and still manages to scamper the 30 feet to the top of the wall at an accelerated pace. (Accelerated Climb 1/2 speed, with Stow Weapon as Move Equivalent Action places you just at the top of the roof.)
Firn'gaer flies over the melee below. The light of the glow stone leaks upward from below as the gnomish wizard moves between the corners of the roofs on either side. Savin is directly across from him. Firn'gaer turns removes his gaze from the eastern wall of the alley to momentarily consult the Vision of Noxnyx. The intense color signature that he had seem before still seem to be off to the southeast. Drawing his field of vision in, causes the signature to vanish. It is still difficult to judge scale, but it is unlikely that the Bane, if that is what the signature is, is as near as the dark regular area on the alley wall.
Somewhat odd as well, though it is difficult to say for certain, but in the same way that one's brain tells us that something has not moved, Firn'gaer gets the impression that the signature has not moved either.
Peerimus steps back, allowing Yorrick to continue his attack on the Werecat. The druid enhances his weapon with a spell. Yorrick continues to maul the unusually tough prey that he has hold of. (Third Grapple hit as well, 1hp w/DR) Yorrick gnaws on the Werecat's arm, but, what would normally cripple a being does not seem to hurt the Werecat much at all.
"Ywraaaawrrrr," the Werecat yowls. "Lord Tarleth is with S'bat. Mercy. Mercy," the Werecat cries, it's voice a subtle lisp.
"Who is S'bat? Where are they," Lorbius prompts. Celine stands nearby, her fists clenched with tension.
"Down the alley," replies the Werecat. "In the Lair." The Werecat has long ceased struggling against Yorrick. "They're in the Lair."
Firn'gaer, and Savin from his higher angle, now see the regular stain on the alley wall for what it is, an open window. Within, the building is dark. They see no movement. They hear no movement. Nothing.
Further down the alley, Firn'gaer's low-light vision allows him to see a corner where another alley branches off of this one.

Sly, Luke, Lady Silverhand, and Niobe all hold a vigilant watch against surprise.
Peerimus speaks again to Yorrick. This time, the words from the bear's friend reach through the haze of animal instinct. Yorrick raises his head, and his roar sounds down through the gloom of the alley.
The Werecat, covers his head with his clawed hands and scuttles a few paces away and out from under the jaws of the bear. Bloody and battered, he peeks out when Peerimus takes over the questioning.
"The Lair ith down the alley." The words tumble out as though talking were the same as running. "And S'bat, he'th a rat. Uthed to run the Cat and Mouth. He'th a player. He'th one who put Tarleth at the Head. Thed it would gif uth Legitimathy."
"You gon let me go? You not gon let him eat me, are you?"
Lorbius looks across the circle of light at Peerimus. "You have broken the code, and endangered every one of us, through your actions. That is a criminal act with the most dire of consequences." The implications behind Lorbius' words are plain, they mean death.
Firn'gaer, invisible and 30 feet above the ground, continues down the alley. [b]Savin on the rooftop and unaware of the wizard's presence, continues to examine the far wall of the alley.
Firn'gaer looks into the Vision of Nyxnox, and pulls back his perspective. On the screen, he easily identifies himself. Behind him are six of his companions in a rough cluster. Savin is behind and over his right shoulder. The unknown signature is still to the southeast, though seemingly closer now, and at a shallower angle.
With Firn'gaer's low-light vision, he sees the alley continue on straight ahead, and the corner at which the alley branches in a T. Just beyond the T branching (at Y44) down below at the street level, there is a door on the west side of the alley.

"There ... " the Werecat hesitates. But when Yorrick rises to all fours, words one again come spilling out. "There are sirty five. No. Sirty sefen. Maybe. I sink."
"Wait, wait." The Werecat closes it's eyes. It's breath comes in short gasps as it attempts to concentrate. Its fur thins, almost seeming to grow inwards. It's forehead grows. Legs bend with the crack of bone. It transforms, becoming a thin wiry man. His leather armor hanging loose upon his frame. "I'll leave the city and never return. We only came here because we heard it was a place to be. Where we wouldn't have to be alone anymore."
"Lorbius?" Celine moves into the pool of light.
Lord Lorbius meets Celine's eyes. "I must speak for the good of all, Celine," he answers her unspoken question. He looks up at Jaeden, and moves out of the alley to Celine's side. "You know I must. All that I can say at the moment, is that I have not yet come to a decision. Time and events will tell."
Meanwhile, invisible to all, Firn'gaer as he concentrates on the Vision of Noxnyx, ceases movement and sinks slowly to the ground. (Firn'gaer is not on the ground.)

Peerimus (AC 27 HP 73) and Yorrick (AC 20 HP 76/82) Tuesday September 27th, 2005 6:07:51 PM
It is quite evident where the authority and strength of will lies where it concerns the nobles, but the problem still exists. Almost more so now that it is evident the man is not a citizen of this city in the first place. Yes he needs to abide the same rules as others who live here, but the dilema still gnaws at the druid.
A more pressing issue is the number of opponents lying in wait just down the alley. An almost impossible number of opponents, especially to a group that does not fight as a cohesive unit. That is part of their strength, but also a point of weakness. Another avenue opens.
"Loribus, an assault against such a large entrenched force is folly at best. We need a different course and promised leniency may be the best set. Your voice would have to heard in that matter." the druid then turns an unwavering gaze to Celine. "If Tarleth is to have any hope, the others must have it as well."

Invisible to all eyes, Lady Silverhand enters the alley for a little reconnoiter. Like Savin before her, she makes it some 25 feet down the alley before running smack into something hard, unyielding, and just as invisible as herself. Ouch. (That's Firn'gaer's Wall of Force, Kristal. Take 1d6 damage.)
Niobe blends easily with the darkness as she fumes within.
Jaeden bides his time. There is a time for action and it will come when it comes. Readiness is the thing.
Firn'gaer rises from the floor of the alley. As he once again attains the roof level, the gnomish wizard spots Savin at the edge, peering over. Invisible, and flying in perfect silence, the wizard approaches the monk without a word. Firn'gaer looks and listens for their enemies.
Peerimus with concern for the group's chances against what appear to be overwhelming odds, suggests what might be interpreted as a diplomatic approach and a possible compromise.
It is Lady Celine who is the quickest to provide a reply to Peerimus' words. "Why must my brother be consigned to the same fate as the others?" she retorts.
"Celine," Lorbius neither moves, nor does his tone rebuke. It is clear that he has experience with the mood currently upon the Lady of House Stizein. "What Master Peerimus may be proposing is a deal by which all within who have violated the code be granted pardon. Is that not the thrust of your idea?"
Celine remains quiet, and listens.
"Yet, there are many dangers to your proposal as well. Even were we to banish from the city, all who are within this Lair, there are many ways in which word could return to Floating City. Thirty seven tongues to govern. Thirty seven criminal tongues wag when a light breeze blows."
"That is also assuming that they will agree to such a thing. A creature of our kind is naturally wary of exposure, those who would show it openly are capable of anything. These Cats and Mice have a grand and preposterous scheme. It is unimaginable to any with a basic commons sense. Who knows what drives them to it?"
"No. Before I offer such a dangerous pardon, I would know more."
With a single look to assure himself that the cowering lookout, now in human form, will not attempt to escape, Lorbius enters the alley, feeling before himself for the presence of Firn'gaer's invisible wall.
There is the clink of metal against metal. Firn'gaer hears it, and to the gnome it sounds distinctly as though it comes from the window across the alley. His eyes, though, can detect nothing within.

Peerimus merely returns a steady gaze to Celine and his silent prayers are answered with Loribus's voice. Turning his attention, he nods slightly. "That would be the short of it yes." Loribus then continues with the argument that the druid was expecting. He also, unfortunately, agrees with the logic put forth. Peerimus was never good at arguing from a position he did not wholly believe and he was now quickly finding himself at that disadvantage. "There will not be 37 survivors to banish and do not suggest banishment, but imprisonment or Atonement. Magical aid could be brought to bear against them to hold them to their words." Peerimus falls silent for a moment, "But you are very much correct we should know more. The answers lie in the alleyway."
The druid remains where he is with Yorrick. The wall is still up and the lone werecat still a threat to escape or attack from behind in a moment of perceived weakness. A stray thought touches his mind and he turns to the now man. "You say you were told you could gather here in safety? Whom lead you to such and why would you believe this city would not attempt to destroy you if you were so brazen with your condition?"

More And More (DM/Al) d20+16=20 d20+16=17 d20+12=32 d20+12=28 Wednesday September 28th, 2005 9:13:11 PM Savin makes a stealthy move to a point from which he can see down the side alley. With his human vision, he can see that the two story building, ends at one point, leaving the wall on the first story to continue on down the street. This might indicate, possibly, a courtyard of some kind. The alley is clear and empty. No sounds come from beyond. (BTW, I'm not sure what you were rolling. I have you down for Hide 11, MS 13)
Sly warns Niobe not to approach too aggressively. From the words of the Werecat, there seem to be quite a few opponents somewhere down the alley.
Lady Silverhand, silent and undetected by anyone, waits at the invisible wall. She stands ready, on the off chance that there may come an attack.
Jaeden stands like a mountain. He flows like a river. He waits with the patience and discipline of time itself. But all around remains silent. And even should an army of Werecats charge down the alley, they would encounter Firn'gaer's wall. That should hold them. Shouldn't it?
Niobe feels a sensation of physical illness. Though whether it is from the garbage and stink, or her overwhelming desire to be anywhere but here, is not completely clear. Nor, as far as she is concerned, is there any practical distinction.
Peerimus lets the subject of justice for the Cat and Mouse gang drop for the moment. Instead, possessed of an idea, he presents another question to the now human Werecat.
Satisfied that his back is protected by the clear wall of force, Lorbius turns with interest to hear the Cat's answer to the druids question. Celine reacts as well. One might almost see her prick up her ears.
"We ... " the lookout begins, "We all follow Lord Tarleth," he says hesitantly. "He's our example. He's living proof of what we can rise to if we have the will." The words from the lookout's mouth sound as though they are parroted political propaganda. "He's the shining star that that will guide us to our destiny."
"Or that's what S'bat is always saying."
Jaeden can find no craft in the man, no guile nor any attempt to disemble.

He turns, and his footsteps sound lightly against the tar of the rooftop as he takes a running start, and leaps into space. Dark air rushes by as the ground opens up beneath him. Freedom. Hurtling through the dark open air, the ceiling of the level seems so so close. *Bam* Savin lands on the rooftop across the way, having easily cleared the 20-foot span of the alley. He rolls to his feet, crouched and ready for an attack. His arrival sounded quite loud in his own ears. He listens and scans the rooftop.
From his new position, Savin can see that what lies below does indeed appear to be a courtyard. A gateway opens in a ten-foot high wall. At the very edge of his vision, Savin sees a regular outline in the building across the alley from the gateway. Such an outline might very possibly be a door. A bit more clearly, up above the door on the second floor, is another open window. Within the window, Savin sees a quick movement, dark shapes within a dark room. Then nothing.
Down in the courtyard, a single Were rat stands. It is looking upwards at the spot in which Savin stands. It's attention, no doubt has been drawn by the noise.
Firn'gaer hears the soft padding of feet from somewhere nearby. But his vision is blurred by too much intense concentration into dimly lit corners. He fails to see the thing that he heard.
Sly, Jaeden Ohm and Niobe all hold their positions as the Wereman is questioned here with them, Savin is somewhere on the roof, and Firn'gaer and Lady Silverhand are nowhere in sight. Their locations are completely unknown. The three and the invisible Lady Silverhand cannot help but hear some activity on the rooftops. There is the sound of footsteps and a thump. What could that be?
"Huh? Believe what?" The Wereman answers the questions put to him by Peerimus with a look of confusion. "What are you talking about? S'bat. I think he's always been here. I ... tools? I don't understand."
Lady Celine, however, picks up on Peerimus' implications immediately. "Then Tarleth is not at fault," she says. "It is this S'bat."
Unable to bear conditions any longer, Niobe breaks from the shadows and threatens the Wereman with the point of her rapier.
"She is right," Lady Celine moves closer into the light and harangues the Wereman from the other side. "Admit it. It is S'bat who is controlling my brother."
The Wereman blinks like an animal blinded by a sudden bright light. He seems momentarily unable to grasp the ideas that have been thrust at him, and he is at a loss for anything to say, fast or slow.
"I do not think we will find the truth here, Celine," Lord Lorbius says as he draws a coil of rope from his pack.

Peerimus may not be precisely sure the things Niobe is capable of doing, but he is pretty sure murder is not amongst them, so he says nothing as her temper flares momentarily. Loribus and Celine seem to intercede nicely and Loribus ties the lookout, Though not as skillfully as Peerimus has seen others do the same task. [Spot 20] Thw Wall of Force is of course still in effect and so the druid still feels absolutely no pressure to act anywhere xcept right here. If the deep wilds teach anything, they teach patience.
However, Peerimus is not so pleased with Celine's deep desire to proclaim her brother innocent of any wrong doings. It could make things complicated later on. the druid decides to rephrase his sentance. "S'bat seems to be the spokesman and Tarleth the banner he rallies the gang around. Now Tarleth surely has not been a member of the gang for very long. S'ba brought him in didn't he? S'bat is the leader of the gang. My original question was how deep is the loyalty of the gang to him. For as you have heard and must have known. Openly making your kind known on the upper levels carried a death sentence. Sly, followed by Luke, come around to the other side of Yorrick. The view down the alley is better from this position. From here, the Bladesinger and his Magic Dog friend can see nearly to the far corner where the alley turns. They see the window in the second floor. But nothing moves in the alley.
Firn'gaer, invisible and silent, flies across the alley to the eastern corner at the mouth of the alley, just above his companions. Still, without revealing his presence, he lights upon the roof and watches.
Peerimus questions the Wereman further, possibly seeking a political weakness to the Cat and Mouse Gang.
"S'bat was the leader before Tarleth," the Wereman replies. "It's why a lot of us came. Can't join the Hearts or any of the Houses of Dirt City. They find out what you are, and you're beufored, if you catch my meaning. But now we follow Tarleth. He stands for strength. He's got the courage to be what he really is. And S'bat was saying that if we stand with him, what with the City thrown all upside-down with the attack of the Crying Woods and all, we can carve out our own little kingdom right here on Trash Level before they can send anyone against us."
"That's ... " he looks around at the forces arrayed around him ' ... what he says."
From up above, Firn'gaer is the only one with eyes sharp enough to catch the following. (Highlight to display spoiler: {The Wereman is testing his bonds.})
"You are deluded," rumbles the voice of Lord Lorbius. "We will do what is necessary to keep The Secret. And the current turmoil will work in our favor as well. No one will think twice once we return to stability and the rule of Law, if your group vanishes from Floating City."
Niobe takes another tack designed to get this over with as quickly as possible, she demands that the invisible wall come down. Jaeden does no more than watch the fit of temper and continue to hold his position.
Lady Silverhand still silent and invisible, continues to wait. Suddenly, to her left, something shatters with a *crack* against the invisible wall. Niobe flinches away as well. Upon the ground, a few feet away, lies a splintered crossbow bolt. From it's position, it had probably been aimed at Lord Lorbius. Peering down the alley with her human eyes, however, Lady Silverhand cannot see from where the bolt had come. To her the alley is dark, gloomy, and empty.
Firn'gaer, Niobe, Sly, Luke, Yorrick, and Dalek all, however, make out the dim form of a Wererat with a crossbow, standing at the far corner of the T intersection.
Also, the only one with the proper position, distance, and acuity of eyesight is Firn'gaer. From his place on the corner, he sees a dark head pop out of the second story window for a look. Then, just as quickly, it is gone.

Sly And Luke Saturday October 1st, 2005 2:04:45 PM
Sly watches Niobe bang on something very solid "Hummph! Must be a invisible wall. But Niobe is right, It's about time to bring the wal down. What do you think Luke?"
Luke replies "I'll check with Yorrick first!." Luke will bark to his bear friend, "Bark! Bark! Bark!" then waits for his answer.
Peerimus (AC 27 HP 73) and Yorrick (AC 20 HP 76/82) d20+17=27 d20+10=24 Monday October 3rd, 2005 9:19:53 AM
The more Loribus speaks of the secret and his desire to protect it, the more uneasy Peerimus becomes. The man keeps using words of a far to definite nature for him. The current arguement seems to be centered around class, social class and ever uneasy did that line of differentiation sit with Peerimus. Those on Trash level who were were-creatures were to be exterminatated for it, but Tarleth was to be saved. Why? Social class and the other ruling bodies of this festering place were likely of the same mind. Nobles whoe were such by no more than accident of birth were afforded more worth of thier lives. The crossbow bolt cracks off of the wall and Peerimus turns his head and gives a slight smile back down the alley. Yorrick too, looks down the darkness, but unlike the small human next to him, he can see the shooter and lets a deep growl of warning issue towards him.
"Easy my friend, soon enough." [Handle animal 27] Peerimus decides he is not going to mention the loose bonds to Loribus, if the lookout escapes he escapes. Peerimus looks about for the object Jaeden through over here that is giving off the light and picks it up and gives it a good high throw down the alley to clear the wall. [Range attack 24]

Will The Walls Come Down? (DM/Al) Monday October 3rd, 2005 9:46:18 PM Sly and Luke speak to Yorrick. Through some miracle of friendship between dog and bear, they find out that Yorrick has spotted something. Luke tries to smell what it is, and for his trouble, he gets a stomach turning nose full of foul rotting stench. (Fort vs DC15 or Doggy Barfs for Luke.)
Peerimus is pulled from his private thoughts by the crack of the crossbow bolt. After calming Yorrick, he walks to the Wereman on the ground and picks up Jaeden's glowing stone nearby. Yorrick watches and continues to guard the Wereman, while Peerimus throws the glow stone upwards, arching 20 feet up and landing 80 feet down the alley. (I'll go in-depth into the calculations for this on the rules board if you'd like.)
The glow stone lands in the middle of the street just below the open window. With it's 20 feet radius of good illumination it casts eerie shadows upon the window 20 feet up above, but does not light the window much better than it had been lit before. The Wererat stands just outside of the spill of light. With the glow stone before it, it becomes much more the mysterious shadow.
Lady Silverhand waits cautiously the wall. She says nothing to give away her presence. Reaching out a hand, she tests for the presence of the wall. It is still there, so she continues her vigil.
Niobe withdraws after the crossbow attack. Stepping past the Wereman to Yorrick's side, she looks back down the alley.
Firn'gaer calls down from above. Those who look up at the voice will see nothing unless their eyesight is very very good. Then the wizard flies to a spot next to Savin, and warns him of the possible presence of werecreatures in the window below them. He also mentions activity on the nearby roof. Wonder who that might have been?
Lord Lorbius spins around at the sound of the bolt as it spangs off the invisible wall. "You, come forward," he commands. "Tell Lord Tarleth that we have come to fetch him. Tell him ... and S'bat, that we will parlay."
Lady Celine moves to Lord Lorbius' side. She touches his arm and appears relieved.
The Wererat, however, does no more than hiss and dissapear around the corner. To this, Lord Lorbius takes a few impatient steps toward the wall he knows still blocks the alley.
Sly Foxx is the only one to see anything aside from the Wererat, as it made no attempt to hide itself before it left. Sly thought he saw a shadow of movement in the window on the second story.

Peerimus (AC 27 HP 73) and Yorrick (AC 20 HP 76/82) Tuesday October 4th, 2005 4:28:33 PM
Peerimus looks about him and can feel the nerves of the group mounting. This is a group all very accostumed to action in such situations and is was starting to get dangerous. When patience is reached the very next action tends to be overly rash. That is where the druid feels many of his companions are headed.
Luke gets sick and Peerimus wrinkles his own nose, yes the luxury of standing about the alley entance is about up. Peerimus casts another spell of protection, this time directly upon Yorrick. [Barkskin +4AC]
Looking back to the mounted warrior, "Jaeden, if you have a battle plan for this type of situation now would be a good time to lay it out. The last of any tactical coordination left with Ilsidur. I and Yorrick are a formidable physicl pairing and have been taking the front lines in most recent events. Sly has been with me as well. Niobe, Savin and of course Firn'gaer are not. Loribus seems a front man from what I saw with the plants and Celine an arcanist. I have little large tactical skills. I can readily coordinate with Yorrick and we read each other in combat extrememly well, but that is where it ends."
He then looks up towards Firn'gaers voice, "Or do you have a plan that does not involve standing here pernamently. They are not going to be coming to us. The shooter is reporting the existance of the wall as I speak surely."

Jaeden observes the tactically messy situation and withdraws to clear some room.
Sly comforts Luke as his last big whiff of the foul air brings up acrid doggy barf.
Peerimus can feel the restlessness. He places a spell of protection on Yorrick and then addresses the newcomer, Jaeden, with a request for tactical guidance.
The wall stays up.
Lorbius growls deep in his throat. "I'm sure you are correct, Master Peerimus." Lorbius looks at Celine and whispers. (Listen DC25 to hear: Highlight to display spoiler: {"You are holding back, Celine."}) Lady Celine nods. (Listen DC25 to hear: Highlight to display spoiler: {"As a possible rescue for Tarleth,"}) Lorbius asks again in a whisper. Again Celine nods.
Lord Lorbius draws a deep sigh. He says nothing more, but sighs and places a hand upon her arm. The stakes are high, not only for Celine, but for the reputation of House Stizein as well.
Lorbius again looks at the place where the wall must be. "We must enter," he calls out. "They have no reason to emerge."

Surprise For The Surprise Attack (DM/Al) d20+16=35 d20+16=36 d20+12=30 d20+12=31 d20+9=23 d100=73 d6=6 Wednesday October 5th, 2005 10:01:29 PM Savin spends a goodly part of a minute activating various magics upon himself and then takes off over the rooftop. As he moves back in the direction of the gate to the courtyard, he listens for opponents down below. Imagine his surprise when one seems to rise up, silent as a ghost, from hiding in the very darkness of the roof. (Hit AC23, >50 = Miss 73) Savin is caught Flat-footed. He sees the gleam of a rapier flash into his lower back right over the kidneys. Or, at least the blade flashes into the kidneys of his displaced image. A narrow escape.
Primed and ready for the attack, Savin's reflexes kick in and the strike he had ready for the opponent on the ground, strikes this one up on the roof. As hard as the Monk hits, however, the damage just doesn't seem to be as much as he thinks it should be. Lycanthrope!
Some paces away a long nosed Wererat clutching a small wooden keg moves across the roof. The top of the keg is oddly shaped. By the roof's edge lies a loose coil of rope, (At AO36) to indicate what they've been up to while the party has been in discussion.
Firn'gaer dismisses the Wall of Force and calls the all clear down to those below. Then he flies back across the alley to watch the window across the way. He sees nothing in the window. But he can't miss the fight across the alley on the opposite rooftop.
Hearing that the Force Wall is down, Lady Silverhand inches cautiously forward. She moves five feet forward and then stops. A little bit of luck allows her to see some shadow of movement in the window up above. (BTW, you never took your 1d6 damage from smashing into the Wall of Force earlier, Selena. I rolled for you. You took 6hp Damage and are now at 56/62hp.)
Peerimus casts a spell, a flame lighting in his hand. With a caution to Yorrick, and a pray to the Father and Mother, he and his friend start down the alley, pushing past the Wereman on the ground as he scoots as best he can to the wall of the nearest building. On the way down the alley, Peerimus bumps into something soft and yielding. Something not visible to his naked eyes. And then he's past, and he cannot see it.
Sly sees to Luke the vomity dog. Luke puts on a brave doggy face, though. Both stand and prepare to march into the alley.
Amid all of the rash action, Jaeden and Niobe hold their positions.
As the Wall goes down, Lorbius places a hand upon Celine's shoulder, a silent gesture for her to remain in the rear. The he too heads forward into the alley. In one hand he holds a wicked kukri, in the other the braids of his flail sway to his movement. Crouching low, he keeps a ten foot lead on Peerimus and Yorrick.

The Real Deal - Combat Round 01 (DM/Al) d20+18=21 d20+16=35 d20+16=26 d20+12=17 d20+12=29 d20+9=11 d20+14=34 d4+3=5 2d6(1+5)=6 Thursday October 6th, 2005 9:45:48 PM Savin executes a devastating series of lightening fast blows against his Werecat attacker. Sick meaty thuds attest to the power Savin brings to the quarterstaff. The Wererat, (R1) does not join it's fellow rogue in the typical flanking attack. Rather, it hurries on across the rooftop the small keg clutched in it's clawed hands. The battered Werecat too (C4), tumbles out of range, and follows without a retaliatory strike against Savin.
Still invisible, Firn'gaer remains perched on the edge of the roof and calls added protection.
Sly and Luke move in front of Lady Celine. While protecting the noble lady, they search the darkness with their sensitive eyes. They see nothing suspicious. (I can't remember what Luke was at HP-wise, Ceil. Let's just call it full hp. 65/65. BTW, I show Sly at 85/85 hitpoints on the Character Sheet that I have.)
Peerimus calls for Niobe, Sly and Lady Silverhand (who must be around here somewhere) to climb the vine covered walls and help Savin up above. Then he and Yorrick, taking up the entire width of the alley, continue forward with Lord Lorbius ten feet ahead.
Dalek pushes through the crowd at the entrance to the alley, catching up quickly with Peerimus and Yorrick, While Jaeden astride, holds his Ancestral Greatsword on high, preparing a killing blow. (Jason, you have the Critical damage just fine. Greatsword is x2 so your roll damage Twice.)
With a grumble, Niobe takes to the wall and gets a good taste of what Savin makes look so easy. She makes it half way up and then looks down. The ground looks much further than it actually is. (DC to climb the Vines that run up the walls is 15. Climbing is 1/4 speed. Accelerating climbing at 1/2 speed is DC20. Wall is 30 feet tall. Miss the DC by less than 4 and don't move. Miss by more than 4 and Fall.)
Lady Silverhand does not move. She saw something, and cautiously, she remains where she is.
Lady Celine remains back as well. Her eyes close momentarily as she connects with the forces of magic that run through her body.
Lord Lorbius continues in the lead. Luck is with him as from the corner of his eye, he turns his head a just the right moment and detects movement in the window up above. "Beware!" he calls out.
At the very same time, Jaeden hears the creek of boards from up above as well. Both are a little too late.
A dark form appears in the window. It is a Werecat, and something comes flying out. As it falls into the light of Jaeden's glow stone, you can see that it is a small 10 gallon wooden cask. There is something affixed to one end. It is a flask.
Both cask and flask shatter directly in between Peerimus and Yorrick and burning oil quickly fills the small alley engulfing the entire forward party in a 15 foot radius. (Dalek, Peerimus, Yorrick, Lorbius, take 2d6 hp fire damage. Take 2d6 hp fire damage for each round you remain within the flames. For one round after you leave the flames, take 1d6 fire damage.)
The black Werecat stands watching from the window above. The frame of the window is large, but it gives him cover. The window is 20 feet up.
[OoC: If you have movement, please post your position on the map.]

Savin flashes back to the time in the monastary and the teachings of his master. He remembers clearly, the were sitting by a pond discussing tactics and his master said, "Never let a wounded werecat get away. You will rue the day that happens."
Savin charges forward and smashes down on the werecat with his staff, using his powerattack feat +5 this time. He strikes the hapless cat using both hands adding even more power with the staff. Savin moved to AG25
Savin calls down, "There are several up here. They might have more traps."
OOC Al missed it last time for damage. When you powerattack, you double the damage of the power attack if you are using a two-handed weapon. I should have done 6 more last round. Total damage 33 (23 after the damage reduction)
+9 strength bonus +10 for powerattack +1 for shilleglah spell
Other tactics, I charged taking the +2 to hit and -2 on ac. I didn't take any modifiers for flanking but I assume I am attacking his back since he is running away

Niobe (AC 19 HP 73/73)(sub=jason) d20+3=17 Friday October 7th, 2005 4:31:46 PM
The climb isn't fun but at least the smell is marginally more tolerable at this height. Niobe looks down with a grimace as the flames burn her companions.
As unhappy as she currently is, these are still her friends.
For a second she considers moving to aid those engulfed in flame but instead she continues her climb [climb 17], deciding it'd be best to stick to Peerimus' plan.

This explosion and resulting flames sends Dalek into a panic. The horse rears up high, saving himself from the worst of the damage [-2 hp]. It's insticts tell it to back away from the flame and Jaeden turns him and moves 20' back towards the mouth of the alley.
The warrior, however, is done with waiting in the rear. He turns Dalek back towards the fire and urges him to action. The horse plunges towards the flames but launches itself into the air, easily clearing both the 35' diameter of the fire and Yorrick [jumping as far as he can] and continuing it's movement [total movement is hustle to AE/AF,38/39].
Jaeden is alert and ready for whatever presents itself.

The oil explodes below and his comrades are covered in flames. On the roof-top, a cat and mouse move towards the other group another keg of fire in hand.
"I don't think so." He says as he begins an incantation. "Inflamus Exludious" He says as he becomes visible and a bead of flame flies across the alley and explodes with a giant ball of fire (centered at AE23)

A fireball sails across the night sky and a brilliant flash tells him Firngaer intercepted a few more.
Peerimus looks down the alley and indeed all about him for some tell tale sign of the enemy [spot 30] But he did not have to necessarily see them. [Yorrick Spot 10] Though his friend is not able to. Currently except for randomly destoying something there was little to do. Peerimus casts Cat's Grace on Yorrick

OoC: Remember, those just out of the burning oil, you take 1d6 even after you leave the area.
Sly, itching to get into the midst of the action, follows Peerimus' direction. He strides ten feet across the alley and begins climbing up the wall. Like Niobe, he too finds that the things Savin does, are not necessarily as easy as they look. The going is slow, and Sly makes it only 12 feet up the wall. Luke being a dog, and unable to climb up the vines, remains below, looking up.
The words of his teacher running through is head, Savin charges after the Werecat. With a powerful downward stroke of the quarterstaff, the monk crushes the Werecat's skull. It drops to the rooftop without a sound. (The Werecat was not flanked. Flanking requires a loss of Dex bonus to AC. There is still full Dexterity on a Withdraw. Besides, he is not running away. He's protecting the one with the keg. Oh, and extra 6hp from last round has been added in.)
Lady Silverhand also takes Peerimus' advice and begins climbing the wall next to Sly. Just like Sly, she finds climbing slow. She makes it 12 feet up the 30-foot wall.
Half way up a wall while fire explodes below is a vulnerable feeling. Niobe grits her teeth and concentrates on climbing. She makes it up to the top of the roof and over the edge, just in time to see Savin strike down a dark furred creature. Another, holding a small wooden cask, is making it's way in her direction. Uh-oh. What did she just climb up into?
Down below, Jaeden and Dalek pull back out of the flames with only minor scorching. Under his masters commands, Dalek wheels and makes a running leap over the pool of flaming oil, over Peerimus, and over Yorrick. Rider and mount land with a clatter on the other side, and Dalek dances, wary down the side alley.
Firn'gaer observes the tactics of the two Werebeasts facing Savin. He puts two and two together, and comes to an understanding as to what they're after. A bead of light leaves his hands, and as it does so, Firn'gaer becomes visible. Niobe, shields her eyes as a blossom of flame engulfs Savin and the two Werecreatures. Sly and Lady Silverhand see orange flame shoot out from the roof above. (Savin, Reflex vs DC20 or take half damage. Regardless, however, take 2d6 from the burning oil.) When the ball of flame subsides, the Wererat is barely standing, and in the middle of a flaming pool of oil. Flaming oil licks at Savin's clothing. And, of the fallen Werecat, no more than a charred mound remains.
"Shilus, sullus, oroboros ... ", Lady Celine weaves her hands calling powers of sorcery to her command.
Lorbius leaps forward, out of the burning oil. Rounding the corner, he stands with double weapons ready, his back to the wall. His hair and clothing smoke and smolder.
=================================================== The Werecat in the window (C2) spies Firn'gaer on the roof across the way. He draws a light crossbow and fires. (Hit AC28, Damage 8hp)
On the roof the Wererat (R1) exits the pool of fire, a black and white mess of blood and pain. Despite the pain and its flaming clothing, the Rat weaves and dodges in total defense. (Note to Savin and Niobe: R1 is now in Total Defense AC vs Niobe is 27. AC vs Savin is 28.)
Down in the ally, Peerimus, Jaeden and Lord Lorbius form a line leading down into the cross alley. Suddenly, a door on the west side of the main alley bursts open and five Werebeasts pour out. (This is the door at Y44)
The first one out hustles up the alley and tumbles, diving past Peerimus' feet. It rolls to a standing position on the opposite side, a rapier in its hand. Its yellow eyes are wide, and it spits an excited hiss.
The rest line up in the street and pour crossbow bolts into Peerimus and Yorrick.
R9 Hit Peerimus AC27, Damage 8 + 12Sneak = 20hp R8 Hit Yorrick AC32 (Crit Threat AC29), Damage 6hp R7 Hit Yorrick AC17, No Damage C7 Hit Yorrick AC24, Damage 3hp (-4 firing from behind others)
With the Werecat behind Peerimus to provide a distraction, one of the other Wererogues finds a vital spot in the druid's back (Total Damage 20hp). Bolts whiz around Yorrick like annoying gnats. Though two strike home in the bear's flesh, they do little more than provide an annoyance. (Total Damage 9hp)
Down the cross alley, a brown Wererat (R2) appears in the gateway. There is the twang of a crossbow wire, but no bolt comes. (R2 Hit Jaeden AC13, Nat 1) (Note to Jaeden: R2 has Cover in the Gateway. AC vs Jaeden is 26. AC vs Dalek is 25.)
Jaeden spots a dark figure in the second story window across from the Gate. It appears to be signaling someone further within the courtyard across the way.
