There are Tests

DM Kelly
Monday September 26th, 2005 10:26:16 PM

The ghostly priest is amazed that the group did not flee from his gruesome face. He turns and faces Podo.

You are very brave for someone so small. Yes, we have had visitors, but none who showed sufficient bravery to enter in. Save be for one. What happened to me and my brethern should not concern you, as you cannot alter the past.

As Tishe and Kendry explain the purpose for the visit, Kendry holds up the tapestry. A look of recognition comes across his face.

Once that very tapestry adorned the inner sactum of this temple. I see that our past visitor survived his journey. That was so long ago.....

With a ghostly sigh, the priest continues:

Yes, yes. The tapestry does depict Ebyron and Gargul, long ago. You are very observant to see words in the margin of the tapestry. They are long forgotten secret words. The meaning cannot be lightly shared. These things are only spoken of in the inner sanctum. There you may also find information of the orb that is held by Gargulus in the tapestry.

The ghost looks over the group, half of which are starting to regain thier senses.

Only true believers are permitted in the inner sanctum. There are 'tests'.

OOC: Next round everyone can act.

Tishe' and Snout
Tuesday September 27th, 2005 12:00:09 AM

The ghostly priest really is a kind and gentle man, thinks the mystic, he is concerned for others just like other priests of Alemi that she has known. "What a sweetie", she murmurs.

And then her brown eyes sparkle as information is shared; there is a secret message, there was a visitor to the temple after the priests all became ghosts, and there are tests for the true believers.

"Who was this visitor?", she asks intently, "her identity may help bring shade to our quest."

"And I don't know what you mean by true believer. I weave as a caretaker of Mother Wold, and not a follower of the Golden Dragon. I believe he and all the gods are real (she gives a small shudder in the awesome rememberance of meeting Gargul) and that Alemi is the good protector." She pauses and looks at the caring ghost. "Is that enough?"

Airin and Erwen
Tuesday September 27th, 2005 8:23:44 AM

Someone visited this place before us - who ?!?

Tests ?!? What kind of tests ?!?

Various thoughts run through Airin's little head. It feels like she's caught in an unpenetrable debt of intrigues. Argh how her head starts to ake of all these questions.

Finally she asks the Priest : "what tests are you talking about Sir ?"

Bralin
Tuesday September 27th, 2005 9:12:12 AM

Bralin feels his control return. Now that he can move, he wills himself not to.
In my own time.

The questions he would ask have been asked. Therefore, the dwarf silently awaits the answers.

Podo
Tuesday September 27th, 2005 2:26:38 PM

"Tests? Can anyone take this test or does one need to follow certain requirements?" asks Podo of the Ghostly host.

Nezamil
Tuesday September 27th, 2005 3:53:49 PM

As the dwarf regains his senses he eyes the ghostly priest hearing his words " Once that very tapestry adorned the inner sactum of this temple. I see that our past visitor survived his journey. That was so long ago....." as those words echo in his head " nobody has been here since ??" inquires the dwarf as he shakes his head in amazement

" true believers we are "adds Nezamil " that i have faith in " states the Cleric of Domi with conviction

Peerimus and Shaylin  d20+17=29
Tuesday September 27th, 2005 5:58:53 PM

Peerimus regains his feet and casts a discerning eye back across the temple. he has a good idea where Shaylin has gone. fingers to his mouth and a violently loud whistle pierces teh air through the columned temple. [Handle Animal 29] the leapoard makes her appearance from around one of the far columns and moves quickly to the druid.

True believer? In what I wonder the others have accomplished all questions to the druid too remains silent in that regard.

Gilan
Tuesday September 27th, 2005 6:28:07 PM

Gilan stands easily as he listens to what is said. He has his doubts about the true believer thing. He knows that the other gods exhist...he has seen Gargul and therefore the rest must be real. Still others have spoken already and he nods his head...he serves Mother Wold in all.

The large wolf lazily bumps his leg to remind him that he is there. A hand drops to ruff the ears and stays upon the wolf's head.

Kendry
Tuesday September 27th, 2005 11:35:04 PM

The little bard listens to the priest's words, and the thoughts and questions of his friends and companions.

"I believe we are willing to face what must be faced." Echoing Airin's request, but changing from the interrogative to the imperative, "Name the tests," is all that Kendry says.

Wilfire Ironhouse (by Kim)
Tuesday September 27th, 2005 11:51:33 PM

"Will yue be takin' us to da inner sanctum, den? An' what's yuer name, worthy ghost?" Wilfire asks the holy spectre.

DM Kelly
Wednesday September 28th, 2005 9:34:27 AM

The ghostly priest is pleased that everyone is alright. In response to a number of questions, he replies:

"My name is Baldor. I served here long ago, and have not been able to go to my reward. I don't know why, perhaps your quest may have something to do with my staying here.

A long time ago a young priest of Alemi came here seeking knowledge. Several came with him, but the tests were too much for them. They succumbed. He was given a choice of a prize and he choose the tapestry you hold. It has since been lost to the ages.

The tests are to determine if you are a 'true believer'. In what you ask? That is what the tests will determine. I cannot reveal the nature of the tests.

To pass the final tests and enter the inner sanctum, proceed through the door on the right."

Airin and Erwen
Wednesday September 28th, 2005 11:19:25 AM

Airin looks to her friends and speaks up : "guess if we want to get to the end of this and find the answers we are looking for there's nothing else we can do but go ahead no ?"

She waits till the rest comes along and then proceeds to the door on the right ...

Erwen safely sitting on her forearm, Airin strokes the eagle to keep her calm.

Kendry
Wednesday September 28th, 2005 11:24:50 AM

"Right, Airin. Let's go." He walks to the door, and enters.

Bralin
Wednesday September 28th, 2005 1:06:51 PM

The test is to be a surprise then.
This is different.
Different is bad.

Bralin silently rises and moves to the proferred door.

The dwarf draws his axe before entering.

Podo will rise and walk to the proferred door, standing in line like the rest of his group to be tested and to enter the inner sanctum.

While waiting to enter, Podo asks of the host, "Do I need to bring all of my belongings with me or may I retreive them later?"

Gilan [greater magic fang, longstrider]
Wednesday September 28th, 2005 6:59:51 PM

Gilan meerly smiles at the priest and nods his head. Moving along he makes his way towards the right door. As he moves he falls into the powers of Mother Wold...he shakes himself lightly as he smiles, the spell complete.

The ghostly priest seems to have taken a liking to Podo. He moves as to pat him on the head, but instead all you feel is a cold chill.

"Take your possessions my short friend. Who knows what you may need to pass the secret tests."

The group take a few moments to prepare.

Airin calms her eagle for the unknown that lies ahead.

Bralin draws his axe.

Peerimus casts a spell and his skin and Shaylin's seems to toughen. Grasping his quarterstaff, he motions for Shaylin to be ready.

Nezamil holds his holy symbol and utters a prayer. His confidence in facing the unknown seems even stronger than normal.

Gilan pulls a small rod from his pocket, and after a few words and gestures his stride increases, and his animal like tendencies seem even more lethal. His wolf follows with a look of hunger in his eyes.

Patty and Wilfire seem undecided as to the course of action ahead. To face unknown tests in a strange land may not be wise. They look to each other for guidance.

Kendry merely walks over and opens the door.

Through the door are steps down. 50' feet down and then they reverse so that the party is now walking beneath the main room as you exit the stairs.

Here is a hallway with 50 golden dragons on either side. Each is 20' tall. There is another large door at the other end of the hallway about 1000 feet away.

OOC: Everyone roll a Will save DC 15, those who do not save stand fascinated at the dragons in the hall.

If you save, roll a Spot check DC 20.

Wilfire uses his finger to poke a bit of his mustache between his teeth. He chews on it for a bit, bites off a few ends, retrieves them with his fingers, and then says, "By my red beard, I'll face whatever dere is ta face! C'mon, Patty, let's keep each udder's back." He takes dwarfish strides toward and through the door.

"Huh. Nice statues." He walks forward. If anyone seems to be lost staring at the dragons, he gives them a nudge. "Move along, move along. Lots more dragons ta see."

"So the Tapestry was taken by a young man, a priest of Alemi. I hope that doesn't mean only ones dedicated to Alemi can pass.."

Preparations for the tests sound like a good idea for Tishe', and she weaves her hands and voice, beckoning her magics into a woven tapestry that settles about her and Snout. [Mage Armor]

The golden statues of the hall hold little intrest to the mystic as another mystery has captured her attention (Will: 30). Going through the door, she looks about trying to see what is the first test about. (Spot: 19)

"Tests imply more than one, Snout", she tells her crocodile absently. Snout just grins at his human and follows her in.

Erwen, on the other hand, is perplexed by the appearance of the gold dragons and stiffens on Airin's arm. The poor bird is ... euhm ... leaving droppings all over the place!!

Gilan follows along watching the gold statues as he moves. A low growl forms in his throat as he pulls up next to Bralin. He bumps the dwarf sort of hard to wake him up. "It is not wise to linger." His eyes take in the others as he moves and then starts back, only if Bralin starts to move. His wolf is pacing him easily not really caring about statues or anything.

His eyes take in the room with amusement as he looks to each statue in turn. For some reason he does not like this path and would like to be past it as soon as possible.

Bralin and Patty stand staring at the great hall of golden dragons. Perhaps they are real, and awaiting guests. The mouths of the dragons open, and it seems that they are alive.

Then, a strange thing happens. Everyone now stands in amazement, for but a moment. Treasures such as have only been dreamed about come pouring from the dragons' mouths.

Tishe' and Snout
Friday September 30th, 2005 1:06:05 AM

Beautiful statues they are; master crafters in gold instead of cloth, they are beautiful all the same, thinks the brown-haired mystic. And then gems and treasures come pouring out of the dragon's mouths.

Which completely confuses Tishe'. "Why would the hallway to the tests be the temple's treasury? And why is it so lightly guarded?", her mouth running on its own, voices her question she meant only to think.

The sound of her average alto, Snout sidles closer to his human, causing her to look down fondly, then in concentration.

"Why?"

Podo
Friday September 30th, 2005 1:58:08 AM

Podo gathers his stuff as the Priestly host suggests. He tightens his belt and with his gear in hand, walks through the door and down the steps only to be caught dumbfounded in the hall as riches of unimagined dreams pour forth from mouths of gold.

Podo will touch none of it ...it must be the test the priest spoke of...

Bumped by Gilan, Bralin pops out of his reverie with a start.

Most assuredly, this is a test of greed.

Bralin dismisses the treasures and tromps down the hall.

Treasures, what wonder. Imagine how much more could be accomplished. How much more evil could be destroyed or held in teh check. Gilan looks around at all the money and items that flow out of the statues. The items that appear at his feet and weapons that he may like. He throws back his head and laughs. "Oh that is rich... try to tempt one that is one with animals... we see little use for treasure though we will use it if needed." He kicks at the stuff before him and shakes his head some more. "Mother Wold provides for her own... nature provides what is needed for her children... take example from the wolves." He paces on down the hall not paying a whole lot of attention to the treasure.

His eyes are drawn to the words that are above the far door. He grabs Tishe' and propels her in his direction. "What do you make of the writing." He then calls to the rest and tries to snap most of them away from the treasure. "Read the words over the far door if you want something to do...it is an unknown language to me." His eyes glance around at the others and he shakes his head.

Kendry
Saturday October 1st, 2005 9:11:45 PM

As he and the rest of the crew draw close to the end of the hall, the little bard looks upward at the writing that Gilan pointed out.

If he recognizes the script, Kendry first reads aloud, then translates for the others the words inscribed above the doorway.

[Kendry speaks and/or reads: Halfling, Common, Elf, Giant, Sylvan, Goblin, Duncan's sign language, Draconic, High Woldian, and Aurun.]

As the group walks through the great hall, the treasures tempt many in the group. Gilan however points out that nature provides, and treasure unneeded is worthless.

Kendry notices that not all the statues are identical. They bear subtle differences that one might see if you were to line up a hundred gold dragons and look at each carefully.

Pointing to the words above the door, both Kendry and Tishe recognize the words. They are in Draconian, and say:

"Thou shall not steal."

Assuming that everyone is taking Gilan's advice, you reach the far door and open it. There are stairs leading down, which curve to go back under the great hall that you are in.

Kendry
Sunday October 2nd, 2005 11:49:28 PM

"I think the doors to this temple are a couple hundred feet high for the sake of the dragons. They are dragon doors," Kendry surmises, seeing all of these statues, and recalling their entry to this temple.

"'Thou Shalt Not Steal.' Hmmm. I'll have to remember that one."

Then, seeing the stairs leading down, Kendry remembers a game he and his siblings and boyhood friends used to play. "Last one down's a ripe skunk cabbage!" He races down the stairs, two at a time, heedless to danger, for the moment.

Peerimus and Shaylin
Monday October 3rd, 2005 9:38:36 AM

Peerimus finds Gilans comments odd, nature certainly did not provide the magical items I am carrying, but we all have heard the call though not perhaps the same call. Peeimus has met a small handful of fellow druids in his travels and so far none of them have seen eye to eye on their roles in the Wold.

Peerimus waits for the more impetious ones in the group to descend the stairs, but he can not help thinking, a couple of them may have just failed the second test.

Gilan smiles as the words are translated and he shakes his head some. "Figures." He looks to those that have raced down the stairs and winces. He silently hopes that there were no traps or they were likely to be without some friends.

Quietly musing to himself he once again thinks of the magical items that he has. In some ways there were not provided by nature...directly. Still in many Mother Wold did provide them, through the battles he has faced and the small treasures that she provides. "Her hand is in everything...even the armor I wear..." The smile on his face widens as he just realized something that he had not thought of before. All of these items are made of her bounty...not matter if minerals, animals or the ingenuity of those that make them.

Tishe' and Snout [mage armour]

"Darkness drapes the stairway", notes the mystic, "but before we see to our careless freinds, we must ensure we don't follow into a trap if there is one."

As Tishe' lights a Sun Rod, she puts a question in the air. "Who can detect traps?"

And the crocodile stays behind the brown-haired mystic...

He will do his best to keep his balance (balance = 20)while proceeding down the stairs. Gilan watches as Bralin goes down and he follows as well. "I would say that to stay here would be as bad as going forward." His grin tells you that whatever it is that finds him may not like it. "Maybe I will be outside of this temple at last or at the least find some action." Still he moves on down the stairs to check on the others and get this over with.

Patterton starts looking at the individual stairs. People get to the bottom and - disappear? He gets close to the bottom - a few steps higher than where Bralin vanished. He starts poking around the stairs, and looks at the walls, and taps the walls and along the face of the stairs with the pommel of his bastard sword. "I'm no good at looking for secret things or traps. Anybody here know about that sort of thing?" the stout halfling asks.

"If disappearing is good - I'm all for it. But if it's not, then, how do we figure out how to keep the rest of us from popping out?"

Gilan (with his wolf by his side) and Wilfire head down the steps, and with a shrug, keep right on walking. When they reach the place that Bralin disappeared, they do likewise.

Patty is frantically trying to find why this is happening, looking for any signs of a trap. It troubles him that he does not have formal training in that skill. The fact that everyone else seems to be ignoring his search makes him agitated.

Podo waits for Patty, up on the stairs. Peerimus looks through his bag, and is disappointed that he has no rope. Everyone else is slowly coming down the stairs, apparently at a loss for words as thier companions disappear.

Gilan looks around the small room and then looks to Ciaran. "Well it could have been worse...we could be dead." His words do not bring a smile to his face as he searches the room silently. When he looks to each door he shakes his head. "I never was very patient...what do you think?" His eyes regard Ciaran with interest as he looks back to the doors. He watches the wolf's reactions as he takes a seat upon the floor and the closes his eyes.

"Guess we may as well seek a little guidance form Mother Wold as we wait for a little." This is mirth in his voice as he speaks as if he has no intentions of waiting long...but at least he will have waited alittle.

DM Kelly

Nezamil casts detect magic and is aware of shimmering teleportation gate that covers the hall at the foot of the stairs.

Peerimus asks for a rope, and as strange as it seems, nobody mentions that they have one.

Podo and Patty wait on the stairs with the group as they try and determine the nature of the disappearances. Tishe is strangly silent, as if her mind was in a far off land.

Suddenly, everyone experiences a dizzy sensation and a flash of light.

You are once again in the dragon temple, sitting upon the pews. The ghostly priest is surprised to see you.

Why have you come back? Did anyone steal from the dragon hall? Someone among you failed a test.

You hear some noise to the left of the dragon fountain, and as you look to see the source you see some priests of Marteaus slip through a doorway and down some stairs. The door slams shut behind them.

Snout grips his human's leg in his jaws and lightly pulls at her. She becomes deeply ingrossed in a conversation involving a lot of hissing until the flash of light.

Surprised, she looks up to find everyone back in the Temple. "The portal must have been another test; a Test of Faith. And we blew it."

She lowers her head in failure, but then sees the red eye robes sneaking into the doorway.

"BRIGHTNESS! The White Hands are stealing our picks!"

Too late for a spell, she impatiently waits for the group to begin the chase and joins in.

Kendry
Friday October 7th, 2005 11:47:28 PM

"Wha - hey!" Kendry exclaims. He holds in his hands a pen and a piece of parchment.

"I was in a large room - maybe 30 feet square," Kendry says. "Washbasin, stool, uh, latrine. Three doors. Over the left a sign that said 'Main Temple Portal.' In the middle a sign, 'Thou shall be patient.' I thought to put a line through the second little 'L' - since with 'thou' should go 'shalt.' But never mind that. Above the right door a sign that read 'Inner sanctum.' A voice told me to wait there, so, I was just waiting there. I figured if I disobeyed the voice, I would fail the test, and something bad would happen.

"And - oh, Airin! You need some clothes!" He pulls from his haversack an extra set of clothes - an entertainer's outfit - and gives it to her.

Kendry looks around. "We have to go back! The tapestry is in the room I was in! All I have is this copy! And look! - the Marteaus gang is entering."

The halfling turns to the priest. "Baldor - the tapestry is in room I was in. I have to get that back!" Though he has a good copy of it, he fears having it fall into the hands of the red eyes.

"Look, everyone - we have to go back. Everyone go down the stairs. It's in my room - on a blanket, next to the stool. Let's just run past them and down the stairs! And listen to the ghost voice." He looks to the ghost. "Unless you have an objection?"

If the ghost does not object, then Kendry makes haste toward the hall again. On the way, from his quiver he pulls a wand, and casts cat's grace on himself.

Airin and Erwen
Saturday October 8th, 2005 7:18:43 AM

Airin continues to splash around in the bath when suddenly she's back at the temple entrance!! Naked and soaking wet!!

When she realizes where she is, and... how she stands there her face turns red completely and she gratefully accepts Kendry's extra clothes. They are men's clothes but better than nothing. A little narrow at her hips and around the chest, but it will do. While she gets dressed she looks at Kendry from under her hair to see if he's eyeballing her... if he does she will linger a little bit and then suddenly look straight into his eyes and smile at him thinking : "he fancies me..."

"My gear! That voice said to be patient so I decided I had some time to take a bath... ERWEN! I have to get back to that room!!!"

Then she sees those Marteaus men and just knows they may find the answers to everything first!

"HURRY!" she says neglecting the ghostly priest, "We GOT to get back as soon as possible!! Run through the Dragon hall not touching anything. Race down those stairs me an' Kendry rushed down first and then ... DON'T DO ANYTHING. We don't know what we are waiting for, but that appears to be the test... BE PATIENT... HURRY!"

Bralin
Sunday October 9th, 2005 10:06:17 PM

The dwarf nods in acceptance of his appearance in the pew.

Everyone else's sheer panic is baffling however.

"I opened the center door," he calmly tells the group. "The one marked 'Thou shalt be patient'. I sought to test the test."
The dwarf is totally unrepentent about his actions. He attempted a course of action. It didn't work, and the only repercussion is some lost time.

Bralin gets up, and heads for the side door.

Podo Danderfluff
Monday October 10th, 2005 1:25:35 AM

"Oh, is that all!?" Podo gets up and heads for that same door in hopes to get another chance...seeing how I was doing fine up until a few minutes ago...

Podo says, "Come on everyone...before something even worse happens..."

Airin
Monday October 10th, 2005 11:07:55 AM

"so at least we know what we weren't supposed to do" she laughs at Bralin.

"Testing the test! whuhahaha" she thinks to herself and can't hide her smile.

DM Kelly

The Ghostly priest looks at Podo, who still seems to be his favorite.

Those others have gone to be tested, they seek the inner sanctum also. The door they went through will test them in the same way as you are. You need to go again through that door (indicating the door to the left)

Bralin mentions with a shrug that he tried something, just prior to the group being sent back.

With a quick laugh with Airin " yes lets try that again if that is what we must do "

Nezamil stands up and heads towards the door again " so they also have followed us and continue their chase of this quest " nods tyhe dwarf at the red robed priests

Bralin
Monday October 10th, 2005 4:02:06 PM

Bralin jogs through the door, leading the way back to the steps that lead to the small chamber. He doesn't really worry about his surroundings until he finds himself in that small room again.

Kendry
Monday October 10th, 2005 5:25:24 PM

"Let's go the same order we went in," Kendry counsels his mates. "Me first, then Airin, then - I don't know who was next. Whatever. Then, whoever didn't go, go. It's safe. Wait for the voice before you do anything. If anybody finds the tapestry on the blanket, wrap it up, and hang on to it until we're together again."

Kendry goes first to the bottom of the stairs.

Tishe' and Snout
Monday October 10th, 2005 11:21:23 PM

"A test of patience?" The plain-faced woman looks at Snout, a reptile capable of spending hours stalking prey, thinking of the patience and care it took to win the companionship of such a wonder in the Wold. "And a Bounder has to wait to be a Sarg Moth", she says philisophically, "we can afford to be patient."

And a thought comes to her. "I'll bet we can be more patient than the Followers of Marteus!"

"So, my packmates, did you see anything on the other side of the door that can help us with this test?" The information from the others could be important.

Podo
Monday October 10th, 2005 11:50:46 PM

Podo waits for Airin to go down the stairs, then follows right behind. Once at the bottom, he avoids touching any of the treasure and heads towards the next doorway, again waiting for Kendry and the Airin to go down the next set of steps before he follows. This time he will go down the entire set of steps only pausing after making into the next room.

Kendry
Tuesday October 11th, 2005 4:48:01 AM

Backstep
As Airin dressed earlier, Kendry turned his back, and stood between Airin and other members of the party, to at least make an effort to shield her from sight. Though he has a strong hankering to get a good peek at her as she dresses ... well, at one point he does glance out of the corner of his eye, um, just to see how she was progressing. Yes, that's it. He forces his head to turn back away, though. He thinks he should like a mirror. Then he pinches himself, hard, for thinking such a naughty thought.

Through the dragon hall
Going through the dragon hall, Kendry enjoys seeing all the pretty things, but resolutely avoids picking up anything.

Down the stairs, and into...
Once through the far door, he goes just a quarter way down the stairs. "Once again - I'll go, then sweet Airin, then, whatever order we went before, then whoever never got to a room. Don't open a door until the voice tells you. And, if the voice doesn't say which door to choose - then choose the inner sanctum. Or should we choose the 'patience' door?" This thought leaves the hobbit momentarily puzzled. "And, just maybe, the magic of the place will make something else happen. Remember, this is Alemi's temple. What lessons, what virtues, what things do those who hold to his faith teach? He is a healer. He is just, and merciful. He counsels patience, and not greed. As we face whatever tests to come, let us ask ourselves, what, in this situation, would Alemi have us do? Well, any ideas, friends?" He will hear any thoughts and counsel others may offer, then scoots on down.

If, rather than going into a room, he finds himself just at the bottom of the stairs, he will wait until all the others have descended or disappeared before he decides on his next move.

Note for Tishe'
Kendry's post (of Friday October 7th, 2005 10:47:28 PM) had this description of what he saw:
"I was in a large room - maybe 30 feet square," Kendry says. "Washbasin, stool, uh, latrine. Three doors. Over the left a sign that said 'Main Temple Portal.' In the middle a sign, 'Thou shall be patient.' I thought to put a line through the second little 'L' - since with 'thou' should go 'shalt.' But never mind that. Airin and Erwen
Tuesday October 11th, 2005 9:25:45 AM

Airin follows the rest down the Dragon hall once again marvelling the riches she can find and asks Bralin with a wide smil: "Shall I test this test and pick up a few gems?"

She chuckles while she rushes on towards the staircase. Once Kendry has dissapeared she goes down expecting to be all alone again soon.

"Take care everyone and be patient!" she says, and then walks on...

Upon seeing the Red Testers go through the opposite door of testing, the group decides that they need to hurry back to where they were. Running through the treasure room, again jewels and magical items pour out at your feet. This time, you go on without stopping to covet what is not yours.

Going through the door at the far end of the treasure filled hall, you start to descend the stairs. Keeping the same order, Kendry vanishes first, followed by Airin with Erwen. The group continues on, following as each person disappears.

The next thing you know you are in a small 30' by 30' room all by yourself (animal companions with owners). There is a stool in the middle of the room, a small wash basin in one corner, and a crude toilet facility in another. There are 3 doors, the sign above the left door reads "Main Temple Portal", the sign above the middle door reads "Thou shall be patient", the sign above the right door reads "Inner Sanctum". You hear a ghostly voice saying, "Please wait here"

Kendry in solitude, again - changed to public post
Tuesday October 11th, 2005 7:26:52 PM

Kendry, when he gets to the room, does not see the tapestry and blanket there. He sighs. He hopes someone else in his group finds it. The bard prays to Alemi that the ancient tapestry not fall into the hands of the Red Testers. Then he starts going through some things in his haversack, taking inventory. Once done, he does likewise with his quiver - and, lo and behold! - he finds the tapestry! "Oh, thank you, Alemi! Thank you!" He does a little dance of joy, waving his arms above his heads, and twirling in a slow circle.

Well, with the tapestry back, he goes ahead and continues the copying process, picking up where he left off. After nearly an hour, he completes the copy. He looks over the details, making sure he did not miss anything, and checks the lettering for accuracy. Once verified, he places the tapestry back in the scroll case, and that back in his quiver. The copy on parchment he rolls into another scroll case, and places that in his haversack.

His stomach growls. "Time for a snack!" he says aloud. Out of the haversack he takes some food and water. He enjoys a little meal. He finishes it off with a mouthful of wine, that he swishes around in his mouth to clean the palate, and a second mouthful, just to enjoy the finishing taste. He puts his food away, lays out his blanket, and lays down to take a nap. There's something gnawing away in the back of his mind - but it's been a busy day...

The druid has been silent and merely following the others, after all they have been doing rather well. Finding himself back in the hall, Failed? Wonder which one of them? Then he hears the accounts and Bralin mentions the door. Solves that then. At least I know they did not perish. The Marteaus group moves through. Peerimus tries to get a good look at them, mainly the composition of the group [Spot 22]. Men, Women, human unexplained bulky section under their robes and such other things.

Then the group descends and he finds himself in a large spacious area. Looking about the expanse, sink latrine and stool. patience, yes the others said as much. Odd test if you can simply keep retaking it. Peerimus moves to the basin to see if it produces water. if so, and clean he will drink some and leave it running for Shaylin as well. Peerimus will then have a seat for a time. After about 20 minutes he will stand and move with Shaylin to a side wall and lay down leaning back into the wall. The druid rolls his staff back and forth to pass the time. As long as i can sleep I can wait. Stalking prey is one thing, sitting in a stone box no matter its size is quite another.

Gilan [greater magic fang, longstrider] - changed to public post
Tuesday October 11th, 2005 11:16:41 PM

Finding himself seated upon a pew in a meditative state drives him crazy. He stands slowly as growls even as the Red Ones race down the door to the left. "Fine." He moves with the others through the hall and then down the stairs.

Finding himself once again in the little room he sits and waits patiently. His hand absently stroking the head of Ciaran as he calms both of them. "This had better not last too long...this closed in place will drive me nuts." He sighs and waits anyways.

Tishe' and Snout - changed to public post
Tuesday October 11th, 2005 11:23:43 PM

Obeidiently, Tishe' moves through the portal and then carefully inspects the room, signs, and paraphanalia. "As Kendry said, a room of patience for learning what Alemi provides." Well, patience is a virtue Tishe' can practice. For a day she had sat watching the water before Snout came to her (she fondly rubs his eye ridge).

And so she sits and empties her mind, contemplating the wonders of Mother Wold, of her birth faith in Pantheon, of her awesome visitation to Gargul, the peacefulness of the dedicated followers of Alemi.

Snout is content to wait, and curls in a ball to preserve his body heat.

An hour passes and Tishe' begins to worry. Thinking it through, however, she realizes that the pack had been transported to the main temple faster than this, and so they must be doing something right. She chuckles. "Doing something by doing nothing. Good things come to those who wait." she tells the air about her.

"I am content to wait."

Airin and Erwen - changed to public post
Wednesday October 12th, 2005 3:23:51 AM

Once again Airin finds herself in the same room she was in earlier. Gear and all is retrieved! The thub is still slightly warm, but Airin does not want to get caught skinny dipping once again. So she puts on her own clothes again and readies her armor.
she neatly folds Kendry's spare clothes and puts them away in her backpack.

Time has come to meditate.

Airin sits down on the floor, puts her bastard sword, daggers and crossbow in front of her and begins to pray to mother nature. She also recapitulates her spells for this day.

Erwen senses Airin is very relaxed and sits on the stool tucking her head under her feathers taking a short nap.

Patterton in solitude (by Kim) - changed to public post
Wednesday October 12th, 2005 4:09:35 AM

Patterton follows the others down the stairs, and finds himself in a room similar to the one Kendry described in the chapel.

He hears the voice, and reads the signs. This is a good time to exercise. The barrel-chested halfling begins going through calisthenics he learned as part of his training. Next to one wall he goes into a handstand, then does a set of ten handstand pushups. He puts his blanket on the floor, and forms his body into an arch, his hands and feet on the floor, and his belly up in the air. He hold this position for about three minutes, with just slight movements to stretch his spine, and exercise his arms, legs, and torso. He then lowers his head on to the blanket while still in the arch, and stretches more, until his nose touches the blanket. He holds that for another three minutes, then comes up a bit, and, using his hands and feet, slowly spins his torso about, now with his body still arched, but his belly facing downward. He holds the front arch for three minutes, then lowers himself to the ground, and relaxes for a few minutes, enjoying the energy that flows through the body and along his spine from this exercise.

Patterton takes a length of rope, one bight in each hand, and begins swinging it in a circle around his body, jumping up as the rope touches the floor with each rotation. He keeps this up for ten minutes.

He then spends twenty minutes practicing with his bastard sword, going through attacks and defenses, and patterned steps.

Finally, he stops to rest. He splashes water on his face. He takes out some food, sits on the stool, and waits.

DM Kelly
Wednesday October 12th, 2005 6:15:48 PM

The room is small and poorly ventilated. Light comes from a candle set into a candle lantern on the wall. There is a supply of candles in a small alcove below the lantern. After about an hour, the candle is burned down half way.

Nothing happens. No sound, no breeze, no other light. Just a small room and a candle. No response from a ghost or anyone else. Just quiet. Three doors seem to mock you.

This must be what prison is like, except for the doors of course.

Besides the candle getting shorter, there is nothing else to mark the passage of time. It is now about supper time, or so it seems.

The candle is now near the base and the candle starts to flicker, wax drips down the holder, dripping onto the floor.

Time goes on.

Everyone roll a spot and listen check.

Patty notices the candle dimming, and sees there are more candles there. He takes one, and uses the flickering flame from the dying candle to light the next one. He melts a little wax, and affixes the new candle to it. He takes a look around the room, just to see if there is anything he overlooked. [Spot: 6; Listen: 13]

Hungry, he eats a serving of iron rations. He drinks water from the spigot.

DM Post:
You hear nothing. Relighting the candle, the room glows with a soft light. The water tastes fine, if not just a little stale.

The sputtering light of the candles gets his attention. Kendry gets up from his blanket. He takes his everburning torch out of his quiver, and uses it to get a better look around the room. [Spot: 23; Listen: 21]

"Hmmm. The air is pretty close in here." He goes to the sputtering flame, and blows it out. "Maybe I should just open the door to the inner sanctum," he tells himself aloud. He does not open the door, though. At least not yet.

Podo tries to see what can be seen in the fading light, but is not sure, so he goes over and lights another candle, just like so many others times back in the Monastery. You must learn to crawl before you walk...concentrate on everything and nothing...sit and watch the candle drip off time...[spot=10]

While Podo concentrates, his awareness of himself and the room intensifies...almost as if he can hear the walls themselves whispering to him.[Nat. 20; listen=27]

Podo relaxes and in his almost perfect state, absorbs everything of sound.

Tishe' and Snout - changed to public post  d20+4=19 d20+4=12 d20+7=23
Wednesday October 12th, 2005 10:46:18 PM

It is getting hard for the mystic to remain calm about waiting, yet she keeps reminding herself that this is a test and the longer they stay here the farther they are going to completion. 'No ghostly voice MUST mean no warning is necessary.' As long as Tishe' keeps telling herself that, the darkness doesn't seem too bad. 'Hmmm, candles, I wonder if we're patiently waiting for the candle to go out. Maybe I should light another candle because of Alemi being associated with light and goodness. But the sign says to be patient. And Snout is having a good time of it, but he is kind of cold. And patience means content to wait, but there is no virtue in doing nothing while you are waiting. Yes, perhaps doing good things and preparing to do things is part of patience.'

Tishe's thoughts continue through her head and she at last stands, looks around (Spot 19, Listen 12), and stretches. Refreshing herself with the facilities, she casts Endure Elements on herself and Snout to help her scaly friend. And then she takes out her bag of wool and drop spindle to make thread. After she has enough thread, out comes the lap loom and she begins to weave a belt from the carefully prepared thread. (Skill: 23)

Airin and Erwen - changed to public post  d20+10=27
Thursday October 13th, 2005 10:28:38 AM

"Just how long will this take?!?", Airin wonders. Her stomach tells her that time is passing gradually and she decides to take out some rations and have a small lunch... alone... without company. She listens closely hoping to catch a sound. Any sound will do! Even the sound of a mouse would make her happy. It would make her realise she's not alone.

She shares some of her meal with Erwen and starts to talk to the bird. (no spell - just ramblings)

As the candle starts to flicker, Airin realises she will soon be in the dark and digs up an everburning torch from her backpack and lits it. The single light casts her shadow on the chamber walls and Airin feels like doing some combat practice against her own shadow.

She draws her Bastard Sword and starts to "fight" with herself. Of course she makes sure not to hit the wall!

Kendry in solitude, except for the mouse - changed to public post  d20+3=23
Thursday October 13th, 2005 7:30:40 PM

"Hi, mouse," Kendry says. "Now, just where did you come from?"

He looks about the room, to see if he can figure out where the mouse came from. Is there enough room at the bottom of any of the doors to be able to squeeze underneath? He casts detect magic to see if the mouse itself is magical, or mundane. If not through the edge of a door, he examines the room where the floor and the wall join, to see if there is a hole large enough for a mouse. [Search: 23 (natural 23)]

"Hungry, are you?" He covers any mouse hole with his cloak. "Let me get you something." He tries to avoid frightening the mouse too much. He opens his haversack, and pulls out some food that a mouse might like, and lays it on the floor for the little furry critter.

Unless something remarkable happens with the mouse... Kendry decides he has waited long enough for the voice to speak. He makes sure he has all of his things together, then knocks on the 'Inner Sanctum' door. He waits for a moment or two to see if anyone replies.

If someone does reply, he heeds what they say, and will decide what to do at that point.

If no one replies, after a minute, he opens the door.

Podo reaches down and scoops up the small mouse. "Ah, Mister or Misses Mouse I presume?" So, nice of you to drop in on me. DO you know Alemi?" "How long have you been in this place, Mouse?" "Are the accomadations to your liking?"

Podo, places the mouse upon the ground instructing him/her to sit still while he makes a meal for it.

Reaching into his gear bag, Podo takes out a small portion of a ration for the mouse. He also opens up the vial which once contained a pellet, but is now empty. Into the vial, Podo pours some water from his water skin for the mouse. Placing both items down, he wishes good Eats for his visitor.

While he watches the mouse enjoy a good meal, Podo light another candle from the second one he had previously set up.

Once again, Podo looks arounf the room for details of the direction of his next move.

Not withstanding, if needs be, Podo will wait another 12 hours. If nothing reveals itself to him in terms of additional instructions, Podo will open the middle door, the one marked "Thou shall be patient".

Airin and Erwen
Friday October 14th, 2005 7:28:24 AM

The scratching sound under her backpack and the preparations of Erwen wake Airin from her meditations.
She takes her backpack from the ground and sees a little mouse run away!

"Erwen! Fetch!", she calls out to the Eagle.

Immediately Erwen takes a glide flight towards the little rodent, extends her claws and captures the little mouse with a deadly grasp.

Airin did not want Erwen to kill the rodent right away, but the killer instincts of the Eagle can not be tamed. Blood drips from Erwens claws as she takes her prey towards a corner of the room. Her sharp beak rips open the little body still nice and warm. Soon Erwen's head is covered in blood as the predetor in Erwen takes the upper hand.

Actually it's very understandable! Nothing better than a little hunt in this boring room. Airin diverts her head as she sees Erwen eat the mouse. She looks at her own ration and suddenly lost her apetite.

Waiting. That's all she can do. Patience has never been her forte, but it appears to be the only thing she can do.

DM Kelly - early post
Friday October 14th, 2005 12:24:26 PM

OOC: An early post, as something has happened. I changed all your private posts to public, as to simulate your sharing of ideas of why you have failed again.

You reappear in the temple of the golden dragon. The ghostly priest is surprised when you return.

You have failed again. Normally I would command you to leave, but I sense your purpose is important. The Red Testers have entered our temple. Thier purpose is not pure, yet they have not been brought back here. Why I do not know. I will give you one more time to pass this test. Failure will have consequences. Did she not tell you to wait there? I have been here for over a thousand years, your wait should not be so long.

OOC: Feel free to talk to each other, and formulate a plan. BTW, read over each others past posts, great posting.

Kendry
Friday October 14th, 2005 1:29:30 PM

Seeing himself and everyone back in the temple area, Kendry is abashed.

"I am to blame this time," Kendry confesses. "After a few hours, and a visit from a mouse, I knocked first, then opened the 'Inner Sanctum' door. I failed to follow what I recommended to others, and thus have wasted us time."

He takes the parchment with the copy of the tapestry out. "Here. Someone else can carry this.

"Bralin opened the 'be patient' door. I opened the 'inner sanctum' door, thinking, perhaps, it was merely the wrong door that was opened. I have heard stories of Alemi during ancient times. He took initiative. He acted!

"When time is of the essence, and, it seems, the nature of this test is, 'Just wait until I tell you something different,' - my question now is, what benefit will it be to just wait? And wait? And wait? We can return, and wait. We can sleep. We can play with mice. We can wake up and eat. Doodle. But, holy and ghostly cleric, the fate of tens of thousands and more may lie in the balance of what happens in the next few hours. Is there no other test we might meet to reach the inner sanctum? Those who wear the red eye, I assure you, are no friends of Alemi. They are purveyors of disease and suffering and wickedness. Just as this tapestry shows how Ebryon aided Gargulus to make war upon Alemi, these red eyes would have Gargul return to those times, and seek to aid Ebryon - who has brought devastation and death to myriads over the past few weeks with his chaotic excesses and wicked retribution.

"If you would aid them, then let us wait, and let them succeed. Again, I ask - is there no other test? If purity of heart is to will one thing, then the one thing I will is that we together serve the highest good; that goodness and virtue and, yes, patience," he says, though a blush rises to his cheeks, yet he continues, "and love and kindness and truth, justice and mercy, sincerity and integrity, diligence and creativity, knowledge and wisdom - all these things grow and benefit the people of the Wold."

The druid furrows his brow, "The benefit would have been we may have now passed this particular task." The druid says to no one in particular but the sound of hostility is clearly in his voice. "Sit on you hands and attempt to stand at the same time, Count the grains in the rock that make up the room, beat your head into the wall so as to cause Unconsciousness, I care not, but leave the bloody doors alone until you are told. This is just as much about Obedience as it is about Patience. Obey the commands of the presiding priests of this temple."

Tishe' and Snout
Sunday October 16th, 2005 5:00:04 AM

The brown-haired spellweaver kneels in the great temple, "Here, mousey..., eh?" She listens to the others, and thinks of the nature of her fellow druids as witnessed by thier companions. Leopard, Wolf, Eagle, and Crocodile. And this is many druids together as she has ever seen outside of a Sacred Grove.

But all has been said. Preparing herself for another wait, she follows the others in. "The time we feel may not be time actually spent, either, packmates. Alemi could surely weave time so it seems much longer than it is."

Snout is wondering why is human wants to stay away from water so long, but gamely stands to follow the druid who showed protectiveness to his nestlings...

AARGHHHH! MORE WAITING!!!

Airin's clearly annoyed by the stupidity of this test. What's the use of waiting when those Red Testers are ahead of them!!!

"I will cut the hand of the first to touch one of those doors again!"

With that she goes through the dragon hall, looks back to make sure everyone is following her -not expecting the ghost to give another way through this temple- and down the stairs into solitude once more.

Confessions, threats and accusations are made as the group once again finds itself back at the start. The ghostly priest has had mercy, and allows you to try once again.

This time, with prior knowledge of of the test, the group starts out once again.

The treasure hall once again offers up the most tempting of treasure. Magic weapons, wand and rods. Gold and gems. Items that would ensure a victory over the Red Testers you know are working thier way toward the Inner Sanctum.

Finally, you make it back to your private room.

A sweet ghostly voice says as though through a PA system,

Please wait here.

A sign on the far wall says, "Thou shalt be patient." However, the door's purpose is not labeled.

Another sign over the door to the right of the stairs says, "Inner Sanctum"

A sign over the door to the left of the stairs says, "Main Temple Portal."

With threats of action hanging over your head, you do not dare open a door. Yet time seems to go on, for a long time.

It seems like a whole day passes, at this point, the far unlabelled door opens and the PA female voice announces,

Please join your comrades through the open door. You have passed the test.

You go through the door and find everyone crowded into a small room where stairs lead down.

OOC: Please post to the whole group.

Monday October 17th, 2005 10:18:48 PM

Prepared for the testing, Tishe' remains as patient, well, as patient as a crocodile. Bralin's thoughts have echoed with her own and so she was prepared for three mice gnawing on her pack. "If patience is a virtue", she wonders aloud to herself while watching the small creatures, "what would compassion be?" The answer is obvious in the Temple of Alemi, and she allows the mice some of her food.

For Snout, he wonders if the little ones wouldn't pick dead skin off his hide like the birds in a swamp would do...

Finally, FINALLY the test is passed and Tishe' meets the others in the small room.

"Um er, could someone take their elbow out of my ribs?" she asks cheerfully. "This could be the test of personal space."

Tishe' will wait until at least four people go down the stairs ahead of her before following. She is certainly NOT a front line fighter! Striking a sunrod, she holds it aloft while walking down the stairs.

Podo  d20+5=7 d20+7=16 d3=1
Monday October 17th, 2005 10:36:29 PM

Well, Podo tries as he might, straining to see and or hear anything interesting...as Podo becomes acustomed to the new views he doesn't notice anything unusal, but he does hear something he is familiar with...a Mouse!

Podo unslings his pack, reaches into it and withdraws some additional pieces of the broken ration for his new friend(s). PLacing it onto the ground, Podo wishes the rodents Good Eats furries!

For the next unseen future, Podo will mediate on Domi and his unending service to Alemi.

Kendry  d3=2 d20+5=13 d20+10=20 d20+15=24 d3=3 d20+5=20
Tuesday October 18th, 2005 5:19:29 AM

"Wha?" Kendry responds when Patterton tells him to 'shut up.' Why would he... Then Peerimus brings up the virtue of obedience. Hmmm. That is a virtue. Self control is another virtue. And, gee, he didn't even follow his own advice.

Then Airin's threat has him looking at his hands.

"Sorry, friends," he says as they head back to try the door test for the third time. He again offers his copy of the tapestry to whoever wants it, and food to whoever lacks it.

And this time, he does not touch the door.

Once in the room, he casts know direction just so he knows which way is north. Then he brings out his everburning torch, and blows out the candle. He looks around for mouseholes before settling in. He sets his knapsack up on the stool, and lays his blanket on the floor.

Then he remembers a scroll he has: Comprehend languages. So, he lays the tapestry out on his blanket, reads the scroll, touches the writing along the edge of the scroll, and reads what is written there (Use Magic Device: 24 (success on scroll activation)). [Comprehend Languages: You can... read otherwise incomprehensible written messages... You must touch the... writing. The ability to read does not necessarily impart insight into the material, merely its literal meaning. The spell enables you to understand or read an unknown language, not speak or write it.]

He learns what he can learn about what the words along the edge of the tapestry say. He writes down the translation on a parchment, then copies it to another, in both cases writing the original script, and the translation underneath it.

Though the spell itself does not impart the ability to write the language, with his own ability to simply copy what he sees, and with the spell's granting of understanding of what it says, he uses his ability to decipher script, and the translation, and beings analyzing the script and its translation to try to find patterns, structure, minimal pairs, and learn what he can learn about the written language through careful study of this limited sample. He jots notes, observations, and conjectures about the text.

A while later, he hears a scraping sound (listen 20), and doesn't immediately see the source of the noise (listen 13) - so he keeps looking (take 10: 15 on spot), and sees that these mice can jump. There are two of them trying to poke their noses into his haversack. Kendry does as he did earlier. He pulls out some food, and puts it on the floor along the side of the wall, urging them gently to the food. He eats as he watches to see where the little fellows go to after they finish their nibbles. He thinks about casting clairvoyance to see a little ways on the other side of the wall, but, not really knowing how long he will have to wait, and maybe there will be a more important use of the spell, he chooses not to do so.

Finally, he grows sleepy. He takes out two large sacks, and wraps his haversack and quiver each in its own sack. Then he wraps his extra winter blanket around both, and balances the whole up on the stool. If furry little rodents want to get something, he wants to be the giver.

"Alemi, adventurer of old, and Lord of healing and compassion, have compassion on us, I pray you. Protect us from avarice. Grant us patience when that is needful. Grant us knowledge, understanding and wisdom in our endeavors. Forgive me for my earlier action which slowed us, and angered my friends. Help me learn when to hold my tongue. For you know I love to talk.

"Please watch over my brothers and sisters, especially Nalfein and Selithe. And over my cousins, especially Patterton and Podo, who are with us, and Shale and Polly, wherever they may be. My mother, my father, uncles and aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces..." and his prayer goes on in this vein for some time.

"Also, our new companions, Nezamil, Bralin, Peerimus, Wilfire, Tishe', Gilan. And their animals. Bless them, Lord Alemi. And, no, I haven't forgotten her. Watch over and bless dear Airin. Oh, yeah, Erwen, too."

Some time later, he awakens. "Good morning, Alemi! Good morning, ghosts. Still have to wait, eh? All right. No arguments here."

He goes through some morning calisthenics and stretches, uses his whip as a jump rope, and gives himself a good workout. He washes up in the basin. He checks the blanket wrapped around the sacks which cover his haversack and quiver for any fresh signs of nibbles. If he finds any, he pulls out his needle and thread, and spends some time mending the damage.

Kendry breakfasts, and then spends time writing about the adventures he and his friends have been on. He works on perfecting a few poems he has been writing.

It's time for second breakfast. Then lunch. He tries climbing one of the walls - not near the doors, however. Just for climbing practice. He tries holding his breath, counting in his head to see how long he can do so.

More time writing memoirs. Afternoon snack. More exercise. Wash up again. Take advantage of the toilet facilities.

Then he reads through the Prayer Book of Gargul. "Hope you don't mind me reading Lord Gargul's prayer book in your temple, Lord Alemi." He re-reads chapter 6 again.

Three mice show up late in the afternoon (Spot: 20). "Oh. Brought a friend, eh? There's plenty for all of you." He shares his food again.

Dinner time. Patience. Be patient. P-A-T-I-E-N-C-E. Yawn. Stretch. Drink water. Pace. Recite poetry. Sing songs. Practice the lute.

Then the Voice. "We did?! Hurrah!" Kendry responds. He stows his blankets, lute, and so on. He puts his haversack on, and quiver. His bow he strings, and wraps around his chest. He walks through the open door. "Everyone doing all right?" he asks.

"I have some wands. Only a few charges left. Cat's grace and bear's endurance. Invisibility. Levitate. Dispel magic. Cure moderate wounds. Cure light wounds. Let me know if you need a friendly zap."

Marching order? Kendry will follow in the 2nd or 3rd rank.

Nezamil
Tuesday October 18th, 2005 10:27:56 AM

"hmm" replies Nezamil to Bralin " no mouse appeared to me ....mmm....there must be a reason why my experience was slightly different....something to ponder as we travel forth on this journey "

Once back in the room the dwarf gets comfortable knowing this will take some time and again meditates with prayers to Domi and Alemi pausing only to take short naps.

As the door opens the dwarf steps out to join the others almost tripping over the low slung crocodile " err oops sorry "

Nezamil falls in behind kendry in the 3rd spot glad to be able have a clear view over the halflings head as they continue down the stairs

" well lets get moving " growls out the dwarf " since we're all well rested might as well get a good jump on the day "

For the third time Airin enter the room in solitude. Once again she famished so she takes out a nice meal. By now she knows her stay will be at least over 12 hours so she has plenty of time to sleep, eat, would a second bath be too much...

While she's having dinner by candle light - Erwen's look can not hide the mockery in her eyes as Airin is talking to an imaginary companion...

Then suddenly Erwen spots 2 mice trying to scratch their way into Airin's backpack. The eagle remembers the nice snack it had a couple of hours ago and starts to feel hungry once again. She launches herself from the bath tub and rips one of the tiny rodents apart with her deadly claws.

The second mice makes a run for it but Airin qickly casts a Speak with Animals spell and calls out to the two animals (erwen and the second mouse)

"ERWEN YIELD! Finish that mouse but leave the second one!!" Airin shrieks to Erwen.

The she "talks" to the second mouse:
"Where do you come from little fellow? Why are you here? Have you seen more people come through this room before? Can you tell me anything from this place? How did you enter this room when I can only be here without my friends? Do you know how long I am supposed to be here?"

Airin hopes the little mouse can tell her something about this place, and will interrogate the mouse more and more and will give the Mouse some food.

"You want to see something from the Wold? You can come with me if you like. I will get you out of this dreaded place and set you free in the outside Wold once again. If you like to come hop in my backpack but don't eat all supplies... ok?"

Later Airin will go to sleep and try to sleep at least 8 hours.

By now at least 20 hours must have passed and Airin gets up again. She washes herself and tidies her hair.

Then she sits down on the ground and meditates her spells for today.

Then suddenly the door opens and Airin is able to join her friends once more. A shiny dagger in her hand she grins widely saying: "Should have thought of this toothpick earlier."

"Hmm, more stairs", Airin says. "Allow me to scout ahead and Kendry... let's take things slowly from here. Guess we've been taught an excellent lesson in patience...

Airin will slowly and carefully go down the stairs. Searching for traps, anything from loose bricks to holes in the ground or walls.

She goes slightly ahead of the group and very quietly descends the stairs. Whoever is waiting for us down there will need keen eyes and ears to spot the little halfling!

Bralin  d20+8=12 d20+4=16 d3=3
Tuesday October 18th, 2005 11:06:49 AM

Spot 12, Listen 16.

Bralin waits. He hears the mice return, and notes they are attempting to get at his food.

Again the mice appear. Surely part of the test. But how having patience and waiting here corresponds to allowing rodents to eat one's rations, Bralin can't fathom.

The dwarf shoos the mice away.

The night progresses and Bralin takes short catnaps, often waking to check the doors. At a suitable moment, he enters into his communion with The Chamber, reacquiring his standard spells.

The door opens, and Bralin exits. Others seem eager to take the front. Very well. The dwarf drops back to the rear, and watches the group's back.

Peerimus and Shaylin  d20+13=19 d20+6=20 d20+6=22 d20+8=12 d20+17=31 d20+13=19
Tuesday October 18th, 2005 2:05:43 PM

Peerimus and Shaylin enter the stone room and the druid knows it will be some time. As Shaylin curls up for a nap, the human too realizes he has been up for some time considering the first two test attempts. Looking at the cat he thinks she has definately the right idea. Shifting to a male twin of the leopard, he moves in closely and the two curl up into each other. The druid and cat sleep on and off, as cats are want to do for the next 9 hours. Peerimus shifts back to human and knows his needed sleep has been take care of.

With his staff placed firmly in the ground before him the druid begins his daily chant and routine. Combining an almost cadense like chant, the crack of his staff upon the stone and a small dance he opens his mind and spirit to the natural world and the spells he seeks from her inspiration.

Sitting down slightly winded he looks over at Shaylin, "Today will be a good day." he pants. The leopard licks her chops and yawns. A twinkle appears in Peerimus's eye and something tugs at his ear. Turning to look, he spies the mouse again. "Hello again little one. My you are a brave little thing."

Shaylin's ears dart about and eyes flash as she tries to find the mobile snack. Peerimus reaches down and scoops up the mouse with one hand [handle animal 19] while holding Shaylin at bay with the other. [handle animal 31] "Any other time my pet and I would say yes, but not here." The druid mumbles a few words and the spell is complete, he begins talking to the mouse. [Casts Speak with animals]

"So what brings you hear little one and again I might add?" Peerimus asks the mouse about where he lives, what else he may have seen in his lifetime, what his father taught him about the dangers when getting food for the family.

Fianlly the voice intones what Peerimus felt should have been done long ago. He would have to remember that several in the group were not good waiters, which was not really a bad thing but something to be kept in mind. Peerimus places several spells on himself and Shaylin before exiting to join the others.

[Cast On Shaylin Greater Magic Fang
On himself Longstrider]

The small crowded room does nothing for Shaylin. With slight plaintive whine she vaults to the big man's shoulders and looks down at the small crowd. [Take 10 Jump 22=just over 5' up]

Peerimus will descend last with Bralin.

Patterton (by Kim) [Cat's Grace, Bear's Endurance]  d20=9 d20+2=8 d3=1
Tuesday October 18th, 2005 3:37:53 PM

Patterton takes Kendry up on his offer of food, asking for enough for a day or two, just in case.

Within the room, he alternates resting and working out. He practices with his weapons. He exercises. He eats. He never even notices the one mouse that pokes around his knapsack. He sleeps. He practices his tumbling maneuvers. When almost a day has passed, he himself begins to grow impatient. "This gonna take a week, or what?" he asks. He eats more.

Finally, the door opens. He grunts in satisfaction. "Boring room," he comments to his companions. "Good job, Kendry, not opening the door again too soon." When the bard offers the benefits of the wands, he tells him, "Yeah, gimme that bear's endurance and cat's grace, wouldja? Might be some red eyes to poke."

Once Kendry has cast the two spells on him, Patterton takes the lead down the stairs.

DM Kelly
Tuesday October 18th, 2005 7:19:05 PM

Finally the group gathers together, and talk of mice come up. Apparently the temple is infested with them. Airin and Peerimus both mention that they spoke with the mice. The mouse that Airin spoke with was trembling, as his sister was just eaten by an eagle. The mouse constantly begged for his life, even though food was offered. Peerimus had better luck, and the mouse looked to him as a friend and protector, especially since he kept the large cat at bay. The mouse mentions that they have scattered from the west side of the temple, as there was danger. Fighting and blood, and mice can easily be stepped on in such a battle.

As talk of mice comes up, Nezamil and Gilan notice a hole chewed into the side of thier packs. Upon inspection, their rations are ruined.

Kendry learns of the direction beneath the temple, as North is the direction of the three doors. Kendry also studies the tapestry. Highlight to display spoiler: {The words along the edge talk of Eberyon being the creator of the noble races and fey creatures. He sought to overcome Alemi. The fey stone was given to Gargul, and Eberyon gave the souls of fey creatures to Gargul to put into the bodies of monsters. A great war ensued.}

The room you are in is small, and the steps lead down. Airin scouts ahead, and comes back. Highlight to display spoiler: {There is a room full of mirrors covered by curtains, with advice to choose the mirror reflecting your true self.}

Kendry  d20+15=28 d20+15=17
Tuesday October 18th, 2005 8:56:51 PM

Kendry uses the wand of bear's endurance on Patterton (+4 to Constitution for 3 minutes), but he is not able to get the wand to do cat's grace. "I'll have to try that one later."

"Oh, hey, I figured out what was written around the edges of the tapestry. Here's how it goes," he reports:
Eberyon fashioned creatures noble, and created creatures fey. Eberyon opposed Alemi and to overcome him sought. So unto Gargulus gave he the fey stone. And through the stone granted he to Gargulus fey souls, and then did Gargulus pass fey souls into the bodies of beastly monsters. And then came to pass a great war.
"I'm working out the language, but really need more samples of the text to get a better handle on it. And, actually, I'm not sure whether it was just 'monsters' or just 'beasts' or 'beastly monsters' - so I went with the latter."

Then he sees Airin return. "So, it's clear ahead? See anything special, toots?" After she reports, he'll head on with the group.

Tishe' and Snout
Tuesday October 18th, 2005 11:51:57 PM

Tishe' holds aloft her sunrod, lighting the way down the stairs for the companions ahead. "I should have thought about talking to the mice, too.", she grouses. She was too busy exercising patience... Smiling, she tucks a stray lock of brown hair behind her ear and continues to follow the others.

Snout grunts as the little but very broad man nearly stumbles over him. This small enclosure is not what he would choose. That spotted hunter has the right idea, but there is no water to escape through, so Snout must be contented to stare at Neazimil with unblinking eyes. And then follows his human.

Podo
Wednesday October 19th, 2005 12:32:46 AM

Podo follows Kendry. "Hey, cuz, what did you learn about the tapestry? Airin? Erwen ate a mouse? Oh!"

"Oh, Alemi, please do not strike dead your lowly child Airin, she is new at bird keeping. It never dawned on her, that the mice might be yours!" teases Podo to Airin!

Kendry
Wednesday October 19th, 2005 3:02:07 AM

"Uh, I learned what I just told you, Pode. Didn't you listen?" He repeats the translation of the words on the tapestry for his friend.

Gilan is unconcerned about his food as he can find more as he moves along. Looking to the othes he follows along his hand touching the top of his wolves head. "A fight they said?" His eyes light up and then shakes his head. "Do you think it was our challengers?"

Airin and Erwen
Thursday October 20th, 2005 4:07:10 AM

(sorry about the missed post - we all saw the server problems didn't we :-( )

Airin returns to the group and reveals what she saw in the room ahead.

"There is a room full of mirrors covered by curtains, with advice to choose the mirror reflecting your true self. I haven't got a clue what this all means, but so far I haven't spotted any danger. Maybe we'd best go to check out the room all together and see if we can figure out this next... test? If a test it is..."

Airin looks to see if the others agree, and then slowly walks down the stairs to find out more about the room.

What about all these mirrors? How do we know what mirror will reveal our true self?!? Are all mirrors identical? Are there images on the curtains?

Thursday October 20th, 2005 11:54:17 AM

Airin returns with information about a room of mirrors, another test it seems. The group descends the stairs, Airin and Patty in the lead. The stairs empty into a large room filled with curtains hung in a circle that surrounds something. The room is the same size as the treasure and dragon room. As you enter, the words on the floor start to glow.

"View only the mirror of your honest self."

You notice that the red velvet curtains each have a placard at the top. While there are at least 100 curtains, you notice as you look around that the following placards are repeated.

Hero
Criminal
Loner
Faithless
Faithful
Moral
Amoral
Sinner
Wise
Leader
Follower
Thief
Lover
Brave
Innocent

The curtains look like they will part, allowing you to enter and view a mirror which stands behind.

OOC: Please post which mirror you view, and describe in detail why you choose that mirror.

Peerimus and Shaylin
Thursday October 20th, 2005 4:44:23 PM

Peerimus enters the hal, Shaylin comfortably draped across his shoulders and glances about. "An interesting test." The druid moves from platform to platform and regards all the placards carefully. While most are easily eliminated the choice to him seems a bit muddled between a few. Loner, Wise, Brave and Faithful. All I could use to describe myself, but I did not create this test and so may not be able to use what I think I am.

Peerimus stands near the few he seems to be considering. Remebering the encounter with the ghost not so long ago and he decides against Brave. Loner, he looks at the group about him, remebers his brothers and sister in cause of the cabal and of course there was Shaylin "No I think not" Leaving Wise or Faithful. Would be far too presumptious wouldn't it?

The druid moves to the last curtain in his selection and opens it. Faithful

Kendry
Thursday October 20th, 2005 5:40:01 PM

Kendry looks at the instruction on the ground, and reads it aloud. He looks at Podo, and waggles his eyebrows. To Airin, he says, "Well, dear, may we all be wise in this test, eh?"

Then he ponders the choice. He walks along the mirrors, and talks to himself, sotto voce. "Well, I'm not a thief or criminal, at least not so far. Not without morality. Nor faithless.

"A sinner? Do not most of us fall short of what is good and right from time to time? Yes, therefore am I a sinner. But not an unrepentant one. A loner? I like, once in a while, to be alone. But I greatly enjoy being with people, and good company - no, not a loner. A lover?" At this, Kendry lets out a pleasant sigh. "In time. Yes, in time... Wise? Sometimes yes, sometimes no." He recalls his recent choice to open a door. "A thing to strive for. Innocent? Well, of many things, but am not naive. Brave? Usually. Leader or follower?" Kendry chuckles. "Both - but maybe more of the former. Moral? I try to let my behavior be guided by sound principle. Faithful? In some ways, definitely yes. In other ways, well, I strive to be. Hero? I would like to do heroic things. Perhaps some day I shall."

The halfling thinks things over. Many adjectives presented represent aspects of him. Which one best represents him? Though he excel in some ways, and though he fall short in some ways, what quality would best describe what he strives for? What quality, if he is true to it, will serve to help him gain ground in the other virtues? Kendry chooses one of the mirrors with the word 'Faithful' above it, and pulls back the curtain to peer within.

Patterton (by Kim)
Thursday October 20th, 2005 5:43:39 PM

Patterton sees the words on the floor, and on the placards. He spends about ten seconds reviewing in his mind his past actions over the last several months. He walks straight to a mirror labeled 'Brave' and enters behind the curtain.

Bralin
Thursday October 20th, 2005 8:06:13 PM

The dwarf reviews the placards. With some interest, he notes that both Peerimus and Kendry choose one of the adjectives that describes himself.

In the end, he realizes, his true self was formed in The Chamber. Twas in that place where the secrets of the power of the stone were revealed, and where he acquired the discipline to be true to himself.

Follower.

Twas the call of The Chamber that led Bralin to know of it secrets.
Twas the charge of the unknown Healer that led him to Floating City.
Twas the summons of his clan that brought him to Cinnamon Valley.
Twas the plea of the halfling that led him hither on this quest.

The dwarf chooses "Follower".

Tishe' and Snout
Thursday October 20th, 2005 11:22:35 PM

Brown eyes widen with interest as the mystic carefully reads the glowing letters and then moves around the room, noting the repetition. Searching her own self, she thinks on the words, but soon comes up with the answer. "But none of them are me", she notes with detached interest.

Her next thought is there is a hidden message in the words. Yet looking at them for a long time, she can't cypher any message.

"Well then, this is the Temple of Alemi, what in his eyes is my true self?" Pondering some more, she notes that Peerimus, Patterton, Kendry, and Bralin have all chosen already.

She thinks of standing up to bullies for the smaller kids when a child, of striking out across the Sargrass on her own, of the battles and many near-death experiences while weaving with the Bloodpack, ignoring pain and very near death in spite of being scared out of her wits in oder to help.

Scared? She looks at Snout. Sure she has been scared, yet Tishe' Bloodpack has done what needs to be done in spite of her fears.

And so she makes her choice and, steeling herself, walks to see herself in a mirror marked "Brave"

Nezamil
Thursday October 20th, 2005 11:44:19 PM

The dwarf wanders slowly about the room passing each mirror thinking of what he read on the floor "Veiw only the mirror of your honest self " reads Nezamil aloud "hmm"

" i see bits of each in myself...the struggle of life's choices mumbles the dwarf as he wanders

" as Domi teaches courage and i have the faith to believe does that make me wise ? " " as i wander the wold in Domi's name ...helping others in need....leading them to find the courage to help themselves to better themselves...am i a leader or hero ?" [/i]
" or just an innocent to believe i'm all of those ? "

The Cleric continues to wander wrestling with his thoughts he reaches up and rubs his anvil holy symbol hanging from around his neck finally pausing in front of a mirror

"I walk this path not to find something but so others can.....so others can lead normal lives....i am no better or worse then others...i do not want to be one ....but i am one for that very reason ...

Nezamil steps forward between the curtains to stand before the mirror marked "Hero"

Podo seeing all the covered mirrors and the plaques above them, walks to the closest covered mirror with the sign, Loner and proceeds to look into the mirror.

Looking into the mirror, Podo sees his life paraded out in time from a child until the day he left the Monastery. All his life, Podo was a loner...not a sad loner, quite content, but a loner none the less. When the opportunity presented itself, Podo naturally migrated to the temple, to study with the other Monks, to become one. Monks walk alone, at least thats what Podo Danderfluff Pipewood always believed, except now, looking into the Mirror he can't help but think he'd be better off as a Walker.

Airin and Erwen
Friday October 21st, 2005 3:50:56 AM

Looking around at her well known companions and newly found friends Airin ponders what fits her character best. This actually has got to be the toughest test so far!

As she circles the room looking at the various curtains and writings, Airin mumbles quietly to herself as if to find answers from an unknown source within.

"I'm no criminal nor sinner, yet I am not without fault so Innocence can not be my claim either. Being a hero, wise, brave or a leader would be mere dreams of a young girl. I cling to the companionship of my friends and cousins and even in death I will be faithful to them so how could I be faithless or a loner?
Even though my love for Mother Nature goes without saying I have killed her children without moral objections yet I do not go about slaughtering every creature of nature that crosses the path before me. "

Suddenly Airin stands still and looks at the three remaining mirrors.

"Where is my true self? I have followed my friends yet I have often refused to follow them recklessly. Too paranoid am I to be labeled a Follower. Thieve skills I have been taught by Aresius my mentor when I was younger to use them in time of dire trouble only. Never will I steal for profit."

Airin is surprised when she realizes just one mirror remains. A lover...

Then she speaks out loud to her friends:"So could this mean I am a lover indeed? I love nature. I love my cousins and friends. I love adventuring. I love Erwen, the Crescent Valley and the entire Wold. I love life and ... " suddenly Airin's face turns red and as she lowers her head her eyes flash just one split second to Kendry... (spot DC16 to notice)

Then without waiting for any replies, she moves forward and removes the curtain from the mirror that says Lover.

Gilan and Ciaran
Friday October 21st, 2005 4:10:32 PM

Gilan moves slowly into the room and takes head of the advice that appears on the floor. He looks to the few words that he is to choose from. "My true self..." His hand strays to the head of Ciaran and he knows that loner is not far off but still far away...he is never alone as he touches the gem embedded in his chest.

With a look at just two of the curtains he closes his eyes and lets his focus turn to his inner self. Silently he appraises himself...which will it be faithful or lover? His love for nature and the land that he has come to call home falls first into his thoughts and he smiles as he feels Ciaran bump his hand. "You are right my friend...my strongest attribute would be love...for the land...for the Plains...for my packmates...for Mother Wold..." With a smile at his wolf and with tears in his eyes. "And for you my friend." He moves towards the curtain and pulls them apart with a last word as he stares into the mirror of Lover. "For all the Wold."

Each of the group ponders the placards, and wonders how they may fit the labels posted above the mirrors. One by one, each of you part the curtains. The image you see draws you toward the mirror, soon the curtains fall behind you. Leaving you alone with the visions of the mirror.

Kendry  d20+5=12
Saturday October 22nd, 2005 1:25:39 AM

Unobservant
Unfortunately, for whatever reason, Kendry did not this time note Airin's split-second glance [Spot 12 :-( ]. But he heard her words. Ah, bliss! Love is perhaps even greater than faith - though, can one have one, without the other?

More observant
"Amazing," Kendry says after he observes and listens. He runs over to Airin. "It showed me scenes from when I was a youngling in the Culverwood, and with my friends through many years. Playing music with kith and kin. And the importance of fidelity to the quest. Also, it showed me," he adds, tapping her nose lightly and playfully with the tip if his finger, "you!" He smiles at her. Then he turns and adds, "You too, Patterton, and my sis, Selithe, and even you Podo. And everyone here."

"So, what did you all see?" he asks. "Of course, only tell if you want to."

Seeking for prescience
Once the group has discussed what they just saw, he says, "Peerimus - you mentioned that mouse said they were moving away from the fighting to the western side of the building, so as not to get stepped upon. I'd wager, thanks in small part to Gilan and in large part to me, that they might have gotten to the inner sanctum before us. If I'm wrong, then, great! If not, though, perhaps we should prepare. I'd further wager they would have no compunction attacking us. If they have made it here, it was because they attacked members of the Temple of Light in Plateau City.

"We know they want the tapestry. If they are there, we can fight, or we can, if they are willing, negotiate. Back in the city they showed they are capable of some measure of self control. As no doubt they saw us, as we saw them, it's only reasonable to figure that, if they have arrived first, they will have prepared some sort of greeting for us.

"I can cast clairvoyance, and take a look at what is on the other side of that door. It would take me ten minutes to cast it, and I would have nearly that amount of additional time just to observe what is in the next room.

"Alternatively, we could just spend a few minutes preparing ourselves for potential combat, and enter. We also, of course, could just barge right in with no preparation at all. Ideas, friends?"

Kendry waits to see what strategems, insights and counsel this disparate group might put forth.

Peerimus and Shaylin
Saturday October 22nd, 2005 2:04:46 PM

Peerimus nods to the mirror and turns to the res of the group. "It seems we have all passed this particular test as well." The druid strokes the cat upon his shoulders absently as Kendry speaks of possibilities to the fighting to the west the mice were fleeing. "It does make sense my small friend if those cloaked in red are far more aggressive than us. I see no reason we should not wait for your spell before possibly using combat prepartion spells."

Peerimus looks to the others to see thir assessment.

Patterton (by Kim)
Sunday October 23rd, 2005 1:29:23 AM

At sight of the goblins, Patty's hand instinctively reaches for his sword, until he reminds himself these are images. But having faced these murderous, treacherous creatures fills him with adrenaline, and he feels his muscles ready for action.

"What, wait again? Let's just go rip them up if they are there," Patterton says. "At least, that's what I feel like doing. But, if we have to wait a little longer," he says, tapping his foot impatiently, "well, we've waited quite a while already. Another fifteen minutes or so, I suppose I can endure. If I have to."

He spends the time going through his things, trying to figure out the best way to prepare himself for battle, if such awaits them on the other side of the door. He smiles, recalling the fellow he intimidated just as they entered Gargul's temple near the merchants' shops. Yeah - that's the guy he'll go for first, if he can....

Tishe' and Snout
Sunday October 23rd, 2005 4:47:10 AM

The mystic moves forth from her curtain with head erect and eyes gleaming. "Chosen wisely, the voice said. I saw myself defending the verdant Sargrass against all enemies, and I was strong in my determination." She pauses and considers her words. "I feel I have more strength to continue this quest, too."

"And preparing for a battle sounds like excellent advice, Kendry." The plain-faced woman weaves her hands around herself, encasing her body in Mage Armor, shared with Snout.

She then moves towards the door and waits for another to inspect the door to the Inner Sanctum.

Sunday October 23rd, 2005 6:31:40 AM

Unless someone object, then, Kendry begins the ten-minute casting of clairvoyance, which he places about twenty feet beyond the door, about fifteen feet above the floor level (the floor level of the hallway we now are in), and checks to see what he might see.

He does not intend necessarily to keep the spell in force for the full nine minutes, but will determine how long to keep it up based upon what his first glances show him. He quietly speaks aloud of what he sees.

Airin and Fioni  d20+10=21 d20+10=13 d20+8=26
Monday October 24th, 2005 6:12:53 AM

Reactions to the Mirror Test:
The images Airin sees put a smile on her face while tears are rolling down her cheek. The normally strong lady suddenly shows much more emotions that she usually does.

Then Kendry runs up to her excitingly telling what he had seen in the mirror. Suddenly he sees Airin is crying... yet she's laughing at the same time. Exactly what did she see?!?

"Oh Kendry1", she says "If only you could have seen what I just saw! I think I saw the future! Our future... I... I... I can't tell you right now. Maybe it would spoil all this. Just hold me... " and then she embraces him tucking her head in his neck.

Preparations for the Inner Sanctum:
After a few moments Airin regains her wits and releases Kendry. "We have a job to do." she says firmly. Happier than before, with little lights shining brightly in her pitch black eyes Airin turns around to face the door wondering how to proceed.
Good proposals already have been made. Though she's reluctant to wait much longer, knowing thise Red Eyes are already ahead of them, she will give Kendry a chance with his spells.

She takes out an Invisibility Potion yet, she will wait to hear Kendry's report before deciding what to use or what weapon to ready. However she will make sure not to stand in front of the door. Should the Red Eyes be there, Airin will quaff the Invisibility Potion.
While Kendry prepares his spell Airin will put her ear against the door and try to listen what goes on inside (don't know if Airin is allowed to block the view for Kendry's spell. If not, she will of course not do this)
Isn't there a key hole or some crack in the door so Airin can peek through?
Yet she will also investigate the door itself. Her rogue senses will tell her should the door be trapped or not.

DM Kelly
Monday October 24th, 2005 5:46:04 PM

Each of the group emerges from the curtain surrounding the mirror, with a new outlook. However, only Airin seems to have undergone a noticable physical change. While she was a good looking halfling woman before, she now is stunning. Whether it is the way she carries herself, or actual physical changes to her face and body, it is difficult to tell. Without staring that is.

With the tests apparently done, everyone decides to prepare for a possible fight. Kendry suggests taking a moment to cast Clairvoyance, and with a roll of his eyes Bralin stands down for the moment. Airin checks out the door, but cannot find a hole to peek through. She does however listen at the door, and can hear someone moving about, but it is a distant sound.

Kendry casts his spell, and starts speaking softly about what he sees. The room is big and dimly lit, more a large cavern than a room. There are stalactites hanging from the ceiling. The stalactites are unusual, and seem to reflect the dim light with a golden hue. Columns formed from large stalactites that have joined with the floor stand around the cavern.

About 100 feet into the cavern is a huge pile of treasure, at least 30 feet tall. You can barely make it out, and the cavern stretches on beyond it.

The is a column about 20 feet from the center of the spell, between the door you are near and the treasure pile. There are also columns to the left and right, that are further back in the cavern. Standing by the column on the right, you see one of the Red Eyed warriors that was at the market. He looks to be trying to hide behind the column. You estimate that he is about 50 feet from the door you are behind.

Gilan and Ciaran
Monday October 24th, 2005 7:14:29 PM

Gilan lets his hand slip to his friends head and he rubs it. Tears flow down his face as he nods in understanding. With a last look to the mirror he slips past and towards the door that stands before him and his friend. "Seems my choice was the right one Ciaran." He ruffs the wolf's head again and smiles down at him, feeling the warmth of friendship between them.

As he meets up with the rest of the group he says nothing about what he saw. He listens and nods as he waits for information on what they will be up against. "I am always ready for a good fight and would not mind preparing a few spells first." So he starts that as he waits. He will look to the rest of the group with a smile. "Anyone in need of extra protection?"

Battle plans not being her forte, the mystic doesn't give an opinion one way or another to how to go into the doors. "We are going to have to defeat the followers of Marteus", she states obviously.

"They are probably all have some priestly skills, so they could have fire attacks, silence spells, and good defenses. And those who get close have to beware thier deadly touch spells."

Having done all she can in the planning process, the brown haired mage girds for battle. She weaves protections over herself, Snout, and her horned toad familiar, Wart. (Resist Energy (Fire), See Invisible, and Darkvision)

Keeping her wand of magic missles in her satchel, she looks at the others. "I can weave a spell for speed in combat when trouble breaks out, for those who are near me."

Airin and Fioni  d20+10=20 d20+10=27 d20+25=43 d20+20=37
Tuesday October 25th, 2005 10:15:53 AM

"Yup this is what we trained for..." Airin says to no one in particular. She watches the others strengthening themselves.

"This calls for yet another drink" she whispers smiling wickedly and takes out a Spider Climb potion from her backpack as well.

She sneaks up to her Halfling friends and in Halfling says: "I'm going to make myself invisible and try to climb up those pillars or on some heightened platform from where I can shoot down on those Red Eyes. Ok? Take care guys. Kendry, if you get hurt badly, make sure to call out for me, and I will use the powers granted to me by the mirror..."

Without further explanation, Airin quaffs both potions. One makes her invisible, the other grows tiny little hard hairs on her hands and feet. Luckily only Tische' sees this. Airin casts a smile at her and then waits for someone to open the door.

Once someone does, Airin will immediately go into the shadows and crawl up the walls to find some little corner where she can get both hands free and preferably within 30ft from the Red Eyes. If at all possible, somewhere on top of those pillars maybe? With all the probably racket from the group entering the room beyond this door, Airin finds it not necessary to slow down her movement to increase the use of her sneaking abilities.

Once the door opens, Fioni will fly inside up to the ceiling and shriek loudly hoping to bring terror to the Red Eyes.
