The Black Sword, part Two
Puzzles and Poems

Days go by and the word. (DM Jim)
Friday October 21st, 2005 3:44:56 PM

The next three days seem to pass slowly for the Chosen as they all go about their business. Rill is seen less and less as she spends more time at a local, small time, magicical supply shop. The last few days have been relaxing and all in all the group is happy to have some time off it would seem. The townspeople of South Harbor seem to get along well with them though some are still a little leary of the large creatures that are in their town.

It is the morning of the fourth day when, as you come down to breakfast you find Master Grith sitting at one of the tables. He looks haggard and his eyes are ringed in black as if he has not slept much in the past few days. In fact you remember he went straight to a room and has only allowed a serving wench in to give him meals and the like. He looks almost ready to fall asleep in the bowl of hot oats he is stirring absently, he does not even notice your approach.

Zeoll
Friday October 21st, 2005 3:50:23 PM

With Gecktar's help, Zeoll works on his cloak for those three days and continues to discuss the treasure. (15 days total of 32 done -- Almost halfway there!)

"Well, let's get the rrest of the items identified then," says Zeoll. "Whoeverr wants to can head overr to the Catacombs with me. We need to figurre out these brracerrs, two arrmorrs, bow, and brrooch."

Flat-top
Saturday October 22nd, 2005 8:02:18 AM

Flat-top eats his hot oats, he will ask Zeol " Friend Zeoll, May I follow you to the Catacums? I keep getting my hooves in trouble when I go there!"

If Zeoll answer is yes, then Flat-top will go with him to the Catscoms.

Ban Maeve
Saturday October 22nd, 2005 3:23:04 PM

"Yes, Zeoll, I should also like to accompany you to the Catacombs. Though I haven't stutiet magic formally I to know a thing or two about it as it seems to flow through me easily enough. Perhaps I coult be of some assistance to you there or maybe I coult even learn a little."

Zeoll
Saturday October 22nd, 2005 4:55:39 PM

"Surre, my frriends, the morre the merrrierr!"

[OOC: Here is the link.]

Brahmah
Monday October 24th, 2005 7:01:58 AM

Brahmah talks with Grith about things. "What is wrong friend?"

The situation with the folk in town is common place with Brahmah and thinks nothing more about it. Being a sailor and servant to humans for years has desensatized Brahmah to many human activities. Though, he still doesn't fully trust them.

He leaves the loot for Zeoll to handle. If Brahmah gets the sword, great. If not, he'll get gold, which is great too.

Flat-top
Monday October 24th, 2005 8:38:18 AM

Flat-top is helping Zeoll and Ban in the catacumb, by showing them how to eat a good salad.

Gecktar
Monday October 24th, 2005 1:03:09 PM

Seeing the face of Girth Gecktar inquires if he needs some healing or something else. "Master Girth, what is the problem. Do you need help orhealings ?

Getting things settled. (DM Jim)
Monday October 24th, 2005 5:58:37 PM

Most of the group take off to take care of the stuff they have. First a little stop at the local temple to have them look at the potions. Then onto the little branch of the Catacombs that is in the harbor town. The priest they met that first day is around and he smiles as you enter. "Chosen...how may I be of assistance?" He listens intently and then nods his head. "Would you mind making a small donation to the temple...maybe 500 gold?" If the group agrees he will identify the potions with all haste.

Brahmah and Gecktar engage Master Grith in conversation to see what is bothering him. He turns as the sit and gives them a wane smile. "I have been in my room for the past three days doing some divinations for the next part of the map...and last." He shakes his head as he takes a spoonful of oats and gives another smile. "I had some luck but am finding very little answer to what it all means." With a sigh he repeats the bit of information that he had gotten but it is in a riddle type form.

Woe to those that take the task,
In the forest of monsters,
In the darkness of the earth,
The many eyes will have the sheet,
Glittering you will need in mass,
Home the final piece will lead.

Master Grith leans on his one hand as he takes another bite so that what he has said will sink in. "With the changes since my branch of taurs left this Wold..." He leaves it unfinished as he takes another bite and relaxes in the chair that he is sitting in. "I will have to leave this to your group Captain Brahmah...you know the changes over the years." He still looks tired but eats his oats slowly as he relaxes a little more.

Other nine potions identified as below. Figured you could not pass up that identify price. :)

Zeoll
Monday October 24th, 2005 9:25:59 PM

The liontaur thanks the priest kindly.

He ponders the clues form Master Grith. (more on that later)

========

OOC: I propose that we keep these items:

Large Longsword of Frost+1
1 composite longbow(taur)
1 leather(taur)
1 bracers - moderate conjuration
Amulet of Natural Armor+1
Amulet of Health+2
Quiver of Ehlonna
1 brooch - faint abjuration

I suggest that we divide these as decided earlier.

I suggest that we sell everything else and split the proceeds. More gold to those who got less valuable items, fairly.

Flat-top
Tuesday October 25th, 2005 12:19:21 AM

Flat-top listens to what is being said, then decied to put in his two coper pices, "Sound good to me!!" then continue to eat another apple.

Ban Maeve
Tuesday October 25th, 2005 1:09:21 AM

"I know that I am still new and my voice carries little power yet, but I elect that we tistribute the items as suggestet earlier. Though my brooch seems, perhaps, like a small treasure to you, it is a grant thing for me because it temonstrates that we are all frients and that you trust me. I woult like to wear it with prite. Also, if you are planning on giving me golt then I may prefer some of the scrolls that Zeoll is planning on selling at the Catacombs. I can cast them and they may come in quite hanty for us later."

Gecktar
Tuesday October 25th, 2005 5:04:39 AM

"As you wish" he says to Bran. "Take these scrolls Bran and may you use it well."

"As for the rest I agree to share as Zeoll said but keeping the scrolls for Bran."

Then Gecktar think about the riddle that Girth said and begin to pray that they will not need to fight a beholder...

Brahmah
Tuesday October 25th, 2005 7:06:24 AM

As if reading Gecktar's thoughts, the Captain says, "Well, sounds like the Chosen will be going to the Dark. I think beholders await us. We will need mirrors or pieces of polished silver. Lets tell the others the divinations."

Flat-top
Tuesday October 25th, 2005 7:24:46 AM

Flat-top ask "Mirrors? We'll need Mirrors! Alright I'll go tell Zeoll in the Catacunb."

Flat-top takes off For the catacumbs mumbling all the way.

Zeoll
Tuesday October 25th, 2005 11:50:51 AM

Hero Points. (DM Jim)
Tuesday October 25th, 2005 5:06:47 PM

Chosen,

Please take note of this as I will be deleting this post later to unclutter the board. :)

Hero Points have been awarded to the following taurs...BRAHMAH....ZEOLL. Thanks to all those that gave me thier thoughts and suggestions. I melded them with my own thoughts and awarded accordingly.

Toros
Tuesday October 25th, 2005 10:23:51 PM

Toros takes a look at the provided information about the loot and comments, "Thanks a lot for this, I am happy with my pile, and use yours in good health." However, he does not seem to be much interested in anything, even the news of Beholders, the new loot and gold, as if he is overloaded with thoughts and cannot take action, what is wrong with that Taur!

OOC: Congratulations for the heropoints for Zeoll and Brahmah, you have deserved it.

Ban Maeve
Wednesday October 26th, 2005 1:03:49 AM

"I would like to thank you all for your generosity to this new comer. I will to my best to make you never regret it."

Brahmah
Wednesday October 26th, 2005 2:36:44 AM

OOC: I'm confused. How many hero points is it Zeoll and I get?

Brahmah is happy with the sword, but is clear that he'll pay back the difference to the Chosen.

Gecktar
Wednesday October 26th, 2005 3:02:21 AM

"Thank you Zeoll for sharing the loot. Now we should think about our next mission. Dark forest, underground... Sounds like the sun will not be our ally in our next fight..."

Flat-top
Wednesday October 26th, 2005 6:41:22 AM

"Wait You Guys! I'm getting the mirrors that we might need!" Yells Flar-top, stops and thinks, "Gee! how many mirrors will I have to buy? Hey guy! How manu of you already have mirrors? I know that I will already need one."

Ban Maeve
Wednesday October 26th, 2005 11:04:57 AM

"If it is true that we will neet mirrors than I shall neet one too. I have never hat a neet of a mirror before totay."

Wednesday October 26th, 2005 5:21:47 PM

Zeoll approaches Master Grith when breakfast is done. He has been pondering what it all means. He goes over the mystery in his head.

Woe to those that take the task,
In the forest of monsters,
In the darkness of the earth,
The many eyes will have the sheet,
Glittering you will need in mass,
Home the final piece will lead.

Zeoll uses his Bardic Lore to think about what the Forest of Monsters could be. [OOC: his check is a 24!]

He thanks Master Grith and hopes to see him soon. In the meantime, it is time to provision up and get ready to go.

Brahmah
Thursday October 27th, 2005 3:16:13 AM

Brahmah lingers about.

Flat-top
Thursday October 27th, 2005 6:03:19 AM

Flat-top goes to Zeoll, "I'm waiting for an answer from the The Mommie in the catacumb. I think this Dropsie is really dead this time!!"

Zeoll
Thursday October 27th, 2005 7:07:55 AM

[OOC: Friends, the loot division is now complete, per my earlier post. Let me know if there are any questions. Also, the disbursement of funds from Ceil's Woldcon participation was completed earlier, I am reminded. Please forgive my confusion.]

Zeoll says to Flat-top, "Herre, my frriend, arre 100 gold pieces. Please buy two BIG steel mirrrorrs forr me -- Taurr size ones, not the small human size ones I bet they usually sell!"

"And please be patient with the Mummy," Zeoll adds. "I bet he is verry busy trrying to do a lot of things at once, with very little help. Nobody seems to like helping Mummies these days."

Toros
Friday October 28th, 2005 12:11:06 AM

Toros takes a CMW wand (23?/50 charge)from the previous loot and shows it to Ban, "Ban, do you have any knowledge of healing magic, if you have, you can use this healing wand, if you want. As our healer companion, Kanchana, is no longer with us, I think we may need another healer for back-up."

Flat-top
Friday October 28th, 2005 7:30:48 AM

Flat-top questions Zeoll "Taur size Mirrors?? OK!" then he jallop of to the Catacumbs.

OOC: waiting for our wonderful DM to post.

Not the best news. (DM Jim)
Friday October 28th, 2005 10:45:13 PM

Master Grith looks to Zeoll and gives him a half smile. "Just need some more sleep is all." He finishes off his oats and then stretches, yawning.

Zeoll ponders the riddle as the rest go about working with the loot and getting things ready for thier further adventures. He has a good idea that this forest of monsters is the Culverwoods.

The rest of the group use the time to get to know one another, other the next two days. It appears that maybe thier destination is known, but what does the rest of that riddle mean.

Sorry guys and gal. Got our new computer but had to do some work to get it up and running. I have also been running myself ragged at my grandmother's house. I think that I am back for the duration and no more missed posts.

That is 1 Hero Point for the both of you. I had thought about making the two of you split that point but not sure how that would work. :)

Brahmah (Jay B)  d8=6
Saturday October 29th, 2005 3:24:18 AM

OOC: Thanks for the Hero Point. Brahmah has leveled up and I will be sending Jim the updated sheet.

I'm rolling Hit Points for him, rolled a 6.

Gecktar
Sunday October 30th, 2005 4:23:18 AM

For the next days, Gecktar continue to help Zeoll to craft its cloak, and wanders to the catacombs. He is not able to buy what he was looking for but will have another try later.

OOC : Cayzle, I'm pushing you to get those rules ;)

Brahmah
Monday October 31st, 2005 9:03:20 AM

"The Culverwood! Isn't that place haunted? And there's a dragon that rules the elves there too. Pralnath or... Parnath, Parnoth!" The ranger grins. "Might be fun."

Flat-top
Monday October 31st, 2005 1:13:54 PM

Flat-top stop in his track, turn and faces the group. "Pharnorth! The elF killer? In Coulver Woods? I wonder If he's hungry for the taste of TAURS??"

Zeoll  d20+6=21
Monday October 31st, 2005 6:30:17 PM

Zeoll works on his cloak and ponders the riddle. But aside from an underground adventure in the Culverwood, he is not sure what to make of it.

"Howeverr," he says to his friends, "if we arre to escape the Culverrwood alive, we will need a guide. That means an elf, or maybe a halfling who knows the woods. I suggest that we head to a community that borrderrs the woods and then rrecrruit a guide."

"I agrree with Brrahmah and Flat-top. Let's avoid the Emerrald Kingdom. Too rrisky."

He pauses and tries to rememeber who lives near the woods ... [Bard Lore check 21, so I can assume a little success ...]

"How about the Crrescent Valley? It is norrth of herre, it borrderrs the woods, and the halfings who live therre can enterr and leave the Woods -- at least some of them can."

If the group agrees, then Zeoll suggests telling Master Grith this plan, then heading north to Crescent Valley.

The best laid plans. (DM Jim)
Monday October 31st, 2005 11:37:11 PM

The group talks of Culverwoods and what little they know of it. Most of this is rumors or things that they know from others that have went there.

Cayzle comes up with a rather nice plan to find a guide. He remembers faintly of a druid that use to live at the edges of the woods. This man is rumored to be half mad though and not one to be asking for much of anything. Still most of this could be rumor as well, though a little truth would be there if he is living that close to death. There is always the halfling shire of Crescent Valley that they could go to as well...so it is really a choice of who.

With a little bit of work the group knows they could be on the road in some two days. That will see them fully supplied and ready to go.

Master Grith can only nod his agreement as he listens to the plan. He has rested but still seems a little out of sorts...as if he has something heavy weighing upon him. "That would be your best bet then...you know more of the changes to the land than I...it has been a long time since I have lived here...many changes." He smiles as his says this and then it disappears just as fast. "I will wait for you here though..I fear that I would only slow you down on your quest...though I will see you again I am sure." His smile returns as he lifts a tankard of ale to his lips and drains some of it. "That lady captain has made her boat available to you for a trip home I hear."

Flat-top
Tuesday November 1st, 2005 5:25:35 AM

Flat top look Towards Master Grith, with a question face, wrinkling his eye brows "Two days? Ready in two days? I wonder if we can get those Taur Mirrors ln two days?? The Catacumb is slow you know!"

Zeoll
Tuesday November 1st, 2005 1:29:55 PM

Although he is glad for the chance to work on his cloak, Zeoll is getting nervous about the time.

"What if Varrgas gets the Sworrd beforre we do? We need to get moving, and soon!"

He does what he can to get the wheels rolling. He says goodby to his frriends Tash and the Captain. He gives Master Grith his respect and asks for a blessing. He gets the gear together and challenges the group to move out.

"Come on, frriends! The Crrescent Valley awaits!"

Brahmah
Tuesday November 1st, 2005 4:51:01 PM

"There are heroes of the Culver that might help us, assuming we can find them and they're willing to help. I can't remember, but I think they are called the Green Claws... Green Talons?" He scratches his chin. "I have only heard stories, but I hear the leader is a large dominant red-headed elven female. Some sort of sword-dancer."

Toros
Tuesday November 1st, 2005 11:13:38 PM

"Lets goooo to Crescent Valley!"

Brahmah
Wednesday November 2nd, 2005 2:26:31 AM

"Crescent Valley? Land of the Giants?! And halflings? I'm not sure thats any better than the Culver!"

Gecktar
Wednesday November 2nd, 2005 3:11:24 AM

"I like the idea of taking a guide. Maybe we could learn more about the incoming danger"

Gecktar take all his stuff and is ready to go.

Flat-top
Wednesday November 2nd, 2005 7:23:05 AM

Flat-top takes his new sword and makes sure that it is very sharp, "I hope we do not meet this Dragon, because this one os an old one not like the four little wryms a while ago."

Flat-top takes his pack saddle bages, Telling all "I'm ready!"

The trip. (DM Jim)
Wednesday November 2nd, 2005 10:08:58 AM

The group has made all their arrangments and are ready to move out. You say your goodbyes to Master Grith, Captain Lira and the rest of the crew.

As you travel in the direction of Crescent Valley and the Culverwoods, more talks erupt about the need for a guide and dragons. The end of the second day from leaving South Harbor you find a nice little secluded place to set up camp with a small running brook. You know that it will be dark in about four hours and the rest would be welcome.

We will do the CC transactions on the fly. For those that have sent me transactions already, then your stuff is usuable...enjoy.

Zeoll
Wednesday November 2nd, 2005 7:45:20 PM

Zeoll helps set up camp and takes the first watch. He is glad to be on the road and away from human cities. Too big and cramped and smelly.

He takes out the acorn with the rune on it. Being in nature makes him wonder about the fate of the Fae King. And he misses Kanchana.

The liontaur had been hoping for a sea voyage back home, but sleeping under the sky among trees and fresh air is a good second choice.

Gecktar
Thursday November 3rd, 2005 2:50:11 AM

Gecktar enjoy their new trip and try to remember all places they travel to... In few monthes he has travelled more than during the rest of his life !

He chat with the other to try to maintain high the mood of the team.

Brahmah  d20+8=23
Thursday November 3rd, 2005 7:06:55 AM

Brahmah is friendly with Rill all trip, but snubs Flat-top most of the time.

During the trip, Brahmah suggests that he guide the Chosen since he is somewhat familiar with the terrain. (Knowledge geography 23)
"There is a trade road that runs through the Emerald City that leads to a town called Titana. Either place should have a good local tracker though. The Tamed Lands should be easy. It's the forest itself I'm concerned with. Rumor is it changes shape at will. And the elves of the Culver are supposed to have an uncanny sense of the wood, maybe we can find a elven tracker?"

Flat-top
Thursday November 3rd, 2005 9:07:52 AM

Flat-top thinks about what Brahmah had just said, 'Forest Changing Shape'. So he speaks to Zeoll " Wow! forest changes shape, we will need a very good guide."

Cayzle OOC
Thursday November 3rd, 2005 9:33:26 AM

I'm pretty sure that Rill never came back from shopping?

Ban Maeve
Thursday November 3rd, 2005 12:31:40 PM

"Sorry frients, I have been a little tistractet with all of these new events. To answer your question, Toros, I am not skillet in the healing arts or tivine magic. Insteat, I have learnet a little arcane magic. I to, however, have some skill with survival and wilterness navigation, if I can lent any help."

OOC: Sorry i've been abscent, i misjudged internet availability, but all should be realtively smooth now.

Toros
Thursday November 3rd, 2005 12:45:25 PM

"I understand, Ban, thank you, I will keep this in mind... Well then, perhaps I can ask Zeoll to keep this CMW wand for the group..."

Zeoll, I know you have a CLW wand, but it may not be enough in certain situations. Together with Gecktar and me, dont you want to keep one CMW wand?

Flat-top
Thursday November 3rd, 2005 1:04:16 PM

Flat-top listens to the trading going on between Torosand Zeoll, "Well! If you Lointaurs don't want the CMW wand, I'll take it! Anybody can use a Wand. But I will not be able to use it during a battle."

Zeoll
Thursday November 3rd, 2005 7:24:07 PM

"Sure, I'd be happy to carrry the CMW wand. Flat-top, I'm not surre you know how to use one, but if you want to learrn, I would be happy to teach you."

"Let me use it now, because when I become a Seerr, I won't be able to."

In the morning, Zeoll is the first awake to break camp and get the group moving. "Come on, everrybody. We have places to go and halves of maps to rrecoverr!"

A night of dreams. (DM Jim)
Thursday November 3rd, 2005 10:47:19 PM

The night is uneventful for each person as they take a watch. The one constant till he takes his watch is Zeoll, who moans in his sleep several times.

The next morning finds Zeoll looking like he has not had a decent nights rest. He looks haggard and troubled by something but noone is sure what.

Brahmah has so far lead the group right and he feels confident in his skills as he looks to lead them this day. The rest of the group is up earlier than many would have expected, but the fresh air seems to agree with all of you.

Zeoll's DreamHighlight to display spoiler: {Fog surrounds the group as you are traveling on your way as if by magic. You get the feeling that you are being watched from all over and nowhere at once. There is crack in the distance and then a severed elven head rolls to stop at your feet. The eyes are open and it smiles up at you as if keeping a big secret.}

OOC: What area are they in roughly? I know the knowledge roll was bad.

Gecktar
Friday November 4th, 2005 2:51:27 AM

Gecktar seeing the troubled face of Zeoll inquires "Friend ? Do you have a hard night. The mattress are not very confortable here, but I'm sure that don't hurt you."

"If you wnat to talk, I will ear you..."

He reaches the proximity of Brahmah and then says "Hey captain ! You know very well this area. Do you already have travelled here ? What hasards can we expect ?"

Flat-top wakes at the smell of food on the fire. He rushes to Zeoll, taking one look at him, "Friend Zeoll! I'm sorry that I fell asleep during the night watch, is everything alright? You should have waken me."
Flat-top feels realy bad, that he let Zeoll down. "If it will make you feel better, I'll try to learn how to use a wand! But I'm just a dumb fighter, and as some one once told me "Flat-top! You have more mussels in your arms, than brains in your head." I think that they were right, I don't know if i could hold a spell in my head."

Zeoll

Zeoll wakes with a shudder. His friends can see that he has had a nightmare. He smiles at Gecktar and Flat-top. "I am well, my frriends. Thank you forr yourr concerrn. It was only a drream."

"On the otherr hand, therre is often trruth in drreams. Last night in sleeping I drreamt we werre being watched, and out of the mist a head of an elf with no body rrolled up to my feet. It was smiling like it knew something I and I didn't."

Toros gives the CMW to Zeoll. "I am sure you will use it well Zeoll, thanks!! However, know that it is a used one, and I do not remember how many charges have been left exactly! (Perhaps 17/50 charge?)"

"Flat-top, that person who told you this has underestimated you! If only he knows the effect of your magical charm on the beautiful and clever ladies...!"

Toros listens to the dream of Zeoll without words but worries...

The red soil. (DM Jim)
Saturday November 5th, 2005 12:31:39 AM

Traveling for another few days Zeoll is able to forget at least a little about his vision. He has had no more since then and he finds it kind of relieving.

Brahmah notes the reddening of the soil as they travel and he looks to the further land ahead. With a swallow he realizes that they are about to enter the area of the Wold know as the Red Hills. Known for its giants, giantkin and danger that most would not like to face he wonders if there is a better way.

Stretched out before the eyes of the whole group are the Red Hills and a place that many fear to venture without an army. The things that live here are of the toughest type and not to be trifled with. A little bit of thought by Brahmah and Zeoll tells them that there is another town nearby but that they will still have to either cross part of the Red Hills or the Scab...a tough choice.

The group has a choice ahead of them as to their direction. Consider most of the informtion about both places that I have mentioned and RP it out in the game. :)

Sunday November 6th, 2005 6:17:46 PM

The liontaur is relieved that his strange dream does not recur, but he is also intrigued at the idea of learning things from dreams. Maybe with some training and reflection he could become more adept at dreaming ...

But first the group has a choice. To get to the Crescent Valley they must dash across a corner of the Red Hills or the Scab. Which one to pick?

"I think we should trry the Rred Hills," says Zeoll. "My uninforrmed guess is that the Scab is morre rrough, mountainous, and barrren. My Entangle spells may worrk betterr in the Hills."

The morning before setting out into the Red Hills, Zeoll prepares a new set of druid spells.

Crossing the Red Hills. (DM Jim)
Monday November 7th, 2005 11:38:49 PM

Having decided to skirt the Red Hills as much as possible the group moves further into the red soiled area. The ground is covered easily with minimal effort on all the Chosen and you have seen no signs of life as of yet.

A few days have passed with no real danger or anything of the like and then you find some prints left in the softer part of the red soil. You have also noticed that this part of the hills is a little bit more overgrown but what can you do about it but cut it down.

Zeoll starts to get an odd feeling as if he should know this area somehow...it nags at the back of his mind driving him crazy.

Flat-top has a sudden urge to scratch himself and then finds a lump in his hair about the size of a marble.

The rest of the group are just a little tired from all this walking though none of you would complain....or would you?

I would also assume that at least some of the information on the Red Hills and the Scab would be know by those with competence in nature. General information that is and nothing too specific, along with a general lay of the surrounding land.

Staying side by side with Zeoll (if he accepts) has a smile for the words between Flat-top and Brahmah. 'Two teenagers' he thinks for himself.

Tracks and the fog. (DM Jim)
Wednesday November 9th, 2005 1:06:52 AM

Brahmah checks the tracks and finds them to be unbooted and as his mind wanders over the tracks. He comes to the conculsion that it has to be trolls and from the tracks at least five of them at that.

Flat-top is tired and stretches some as he waits though he is quick to let Brahmah know that he was not giving him the look. In fact he had been thinking about some apples that he stashed away for this trip in his pack. The marble size lump is slightly soft to your touch but in an area that you cannot see it, but it seems to be attached to you.

Zeoll shivers as he realizes that this area is the one that he saw in his dream a few days back. In fact he is so sure of it that he glances to his feet to see if there is a head anywhere nearby...there is not. Right before the fog rolls in you think that you notice a plant move off to your left some twenty feet from you.

Gecktar tries to comfort the rest of the group and mostly Zeoll as he stands near him. He also adds his own thoughts on being tired and finding shelter in this area as soon as possible.

The rest of the group watches with some interest as Brahmah looks over the tracks. They are tired as well and would very much like to get some sleep.

As if out of nowhere a low fog starts to roll in and cover the area with a soft gauzy white. Zeoll feels the hairs stand up on his whole body as he watches in some horror. Then it happens as suddenly as the fog rolled in...a elven head rolls to stop at Flat-top's feet. It is looking straight at Zeoll with those blue eyes that seem to know a secret that he does not. There is a look of grim shock upon the face of the elven head as if the last few minutes were spent in terror.

Ceil - I got your email about the mirrors so they are good to go and you can hand them out to those with you.

Flat-top opens his pakages and stars to hand out Taur Size Mirrors (One for each of the players) When he come to Zeoll, Flat-top gives him a mirror and the change of 80 gp to him.

When the fog starts to move in, Flat-top ask Zeoll to look at the lump on his head, But this is when things starts to happen. He jumps back when the Elven head rolls to his feet, "What's this?" he ask as he draws his Morning Star from his neck.

Before the Head, Zeoll wonders about his friend, Flat-top. If that lump is obvious, or if the centaur is rubbng it a lot, Zeoll asks, "Arre you okay, Flat-top? What's wrrong with yourr head?" He inquires when he takes his mirror from the centaur, "Thanks! How much do I owe you?"

When the Head rolls in, Zeoll cannot resist a little black humor. "When they told me heads would rroll, I didn't think they meant it literrally!"

But the liontaur knows that heads do not roll by themselves, nor do fogs so conveniently hide head tossers without magical assistance.

"In drreams," Zeoll says to his friends, "heads may rroll on theirr own. In rreality, heads need helperrs who make them rroll."

The bard/druid does his best to judge, by the speed and direction from which the head came, where a head-tosser might be. (Rolled an Int check of 20 to do so! Woot!). Then he targets an Entangle spell at that area, hoping to catch the head tosser in constricting grasses and bramble.

(Entangle covers an 80-foot diameter, which offers a healthy margin of error. Zeoll is careful NOT to Entangle himself or his friends. The save DC on an Entangle is a 14.)

Toros
Thursday November 10th, 2005 12:13:27 AM

Toros thanks for the mirror to Flat-top and asks what he can do for the mighty Centaur, before he can get an answer suddenly the fog comes... Seeing the elven head rolling in front Toros tries to make this serious situation less troublesome by commenting "Your dream comes true, Zeoll!!", and then he regrets what he has just said. Toros then gets his magic weapon oil and applies it to Flat-top's drawn weapon. Meanwhile, he activates his ring and stays on defensive for additional protection.

A surprise. (DM Jim)
Thursday November 10th, 2005 1:03:41 AM

The group is suddenly on edge when the fog rolls in and many react in their own way.

Brahmah stays low to the ground where he found the tracks, weapons drawn.

Gecktar is quick to set up several torches in case the trolls are making an attack. Though magic is usually beyone their ilk.

Flat-top had just handed out the last mirror when he finds himself drawing his weapon. He is ready for whatever may come now but can see little as of yet.

Zeoll does not take this new happening too well but he does try to make light of it. He sends out a spell in the direction of where the severed head should have come from. He hears nothing to indicate that he got his target or that anyone is even there.

Toros drops a thing of magical oil upon Flat-top's drawn weapon hoping that it will be of use to the group. He is suddenly aware of just how small their group has gotten.

With everyone ready for the worst the fog slowly starts to clear and you notice nothing out of place...at first. Then off to the side of the area that you all are standing in and the entangle spell is raging...you notice that an area of the vinery has not been effected. Hanging in some of the vines that have come to the for hangs a partially rotted elven body, minus a head. It is surrounded mostly by vines and other skeletal remains seem to be entwined in the vines as well.

Moving along. (DM Jim)
Thursday November 10th, 2005 9:40:56 PM

Brahmah is quick to recognize the vines for what they are and warns people away from them. He then scouts the area for a way around them and finds a nice path, one it appears taken by the trolls.

Zeoll checks the vines many victims and finds nothing of interest on any of the elves that is magical. The clothing on the headless elven corpse is ragged and not very remarkable.

Flat-top scans the area but comes up with no other dangers in the immediate area. The vines being the only thing and he can see they would not be able to reach him from here.

Gecktar remembers a small amount of money that he owes the group. What brought him to remember this at this time maybe strange to most of the group...but he does offer to buy a nice dinner when they get to civilization.

Toros gives a short prayer to the deceased elf and then moves along to follow Brahmah. He gives the vines a wide berth as he does not really wanting to be thier next meal.

The group comes to a slightly raised area in the hills that has a large amount of bushes surrounding it. Maybe this would be a good place to camp and it is well away from the path and the vines.

Night. (DM Jim)
Sunday November 13th, 2005 9:08:54 PM

The body is removed from the vines thought it takes the air elemental to do it. The vines did not seem to willing to let go. The servant goes about collecting the many bones that lay around. Before long you have a nice little pile of bones and the one body laying upon the ground, the head as well.

The group says a few prayers over the bones and body, then you move out. After traveling for awhile you come to a nice little high area surrounded by bushes. A few torches are soon lit so that fire is available for a possible battle with trolls.

The discussion turns to the trolls, the fog and the severed head that rolled at Flat-top's feet. Flat-top once again scratches at the lump on the back of his head and Zeoll comes over to have a look. He finds a tick, gorged on Flat-top's blood, the size of your thumb inbeded in his flesh. It is easily taken care of by Zeoll and he wonders if it is an isolated thing.

As the night wares on, the group finds that they will soon need to set a watch and maybe get something for supper. Rumbling tummies all around tell you that it is nearing time to eat and it will not be easily dismissed.

Wednesday November 16th, 2005 4:14:59 PM

Despite the mild night there was no signs of trouble at all. Up earlier than most in the Wold, the Chosen find themselves ready soon after breakfast. It is pointed out that they have been lucky so far and should not remain in one place for too long.

The direction that you need to travel is soon decided and you start off in that direction. The land is not easy for some as you do a lot of going up and down hills most of the morning. It is tiring work but not one that a hardened group is not use to so you feel no fatigue.

It is closeing on noon when you top the rise of one such hill to find at the bottom of it three trolls feasting upon something. They are all hunched over whatever it is, tearing with teeth and ripping with claws. The ground here is fairly open but it still might not be impossible to go around them undetected.

Brahmah uses enough rations for a single day from his stock. You and Zeoll were able to find some root, berries and the like that were edible in the area.

The Golden Eagle Makes her lazy circle in the sky, Wanting to warn her master but cannot, for she knows the those enermy are trolls.

Ban Maeve
Thursday November 17th, 2005 11:25:49 AM

"Very well, I will keep a close watch as we go arount," Ban says as he readies his bow and notches an arrow, just in case.

Trouble. (DM Jim)
Thursday November 17th, 2005 9:24:33 PM

The group is starting to move to go around the area and avoid the trolls when one of them raises it's head and sniffs the air.

Brahmah curses as he feels the wind has shifted and is blowing past them and straight towards the trolls.

Those watching will spot the trolls stand as one to look up the hill at the group. You can tell by the sudden motion from them that they have seen you. They are now racing up the hill towards your position.

The vegetation here is a little sparser than normal, but maybe with enough grass to hamper movement. The climb of the hill will also allow the group at least a couple of rounds before the trolls reach the group at thier full run.

The group is down to the following Chosen - Brahmah, Flat-top, Zeoll, Gecktar, Ban and Toros. Kale was left back in South Harbor, he left to take care of some personal business and never came back. Rill also started a job in South Harbor working in a small magical component shop.

Zeoll
Thursday November 17th, 2005 9:58:19 PM

Zeoll's Entangle spell was readied for just this kind of event, so he releases the magic in the hope that the vegetation in the trolls' path will grab one or two and keep it at bay. (Reflex save 14)

The liontaur's next action (not sure if you want one round of actions or two) after that will be to cast Hideous Laughter on a troll that is not entangled, as soon as it is in range. (Will save 13 includes the -4 penalty)

Flat-top (AC 22 96/96 HP)
Friday November 18th, 2005 6:08:55 AM

"Oh! Boy!" said Flat-top, as he stick his sword into the ground, then takes his Bow and knothes it, takes out arrows and redies himself to fight, " What food they were eating was not enough, Now they want the lot of us!"

Flat-top will shoot arrows in the next round.

Toros
Friday November 18th, 2005 9:18:38 AM

Using his equipment and perhaps adding some of his magic, Toros prepares a small fire, enough to burn the arrows of Flat-top.

OOC: I am here, I mean I was in a conference but I have returned now, and actually even during the conference I do not think I have missed posts, though my posts were short ones...

Gecktar (AC20 hp54)
Friday November 18th, 2005 5:28:27 PM

Mimicing Toros, Gecktar light a torch. When the troll will be within 40ft, Gecktar will pray Domi to help them in this fight

(OOC cast prayer : EVERYONE has +1 luck bonus to ATTACK, DAMAGE, SAVES, Skill checks and the trolls will be at -1 for the same)

Ban Maeve (AC 19; HP 43)  d20+7=23 2d6(3+2)+6=11
Friday November 18th, 2005 6:40:07 PM

Ban Maeve sees the troll sniff the air. He is raising his bow to fire even as they begin charging on him and his friends. His first arrow lets loose heading straight for the closest troll.

OOC: range on his bow is 110'. the attack roll of 23 and damage of 11 includes the +1 luck bonus.

Brahmah (AC 25, HPS 93)
Friday November 18th, 2005 7:15:37 PM

Brahmah casts Entangle (from his tattoo) about ten feet of the trolls. (He won't cast it if the area of the spell would impede the Chosen.)

Brahmah draws his newest blade and his kukri. "I guess thier still hungry." He snorts. "Use fire if possible."

He hopes the Entangle slows them.

Red Hills' Trolls. (DM Jim)  d20+5=10 d20+5=18 d20+5=14 d20+7=11
Friday November 18th, 2005 11:27:15 PM

The trolls charge at the group and up the hill. They cover the ground fast as their limbs are built for this kind of work and they are hardened by the life they lead.

Zeoll casts a single spell that causes the vegetation to come to life on the left side of the hill. He hopes that this will slow them down some as he prepares another spell.

Flat-top slips his sword into the ground and pulls out his bow. He makes ready to feed the trolls some arrows as they approach the group.

Toros soon has a small flame a going on one of his torches. He does not have the time to gather some wood and make a real fire but at least he might be able to set some arrows aflame. Though he knows that he is forgetting something(Int DC 8 to remember that you need something on the arrows to light).

Gecktar does the same thing as his fellow Chosen and lights up a torch. He also feels that he is forgetting something crucial to put this plan to work(Int DC 8 to remember that you need something on the arrows to light). he prepares a spell for his next action to give the group some help in the battle.

Ban fires off a single arrow at the trolls as the fall into his range. The arrow thuds into the troll(T1) but does not seem to bother it much.

Brahmah casts a spell from one of his tattoos, covering the right side of the hill with grasping grasses. He calls out for the use of fire but finds that some are ahead of him in the game.

As the trolls charge into the entangled area they make it a little ways into it. One of the trolls(T1) is caught in the grass and held fast it would seem. Troll(T2) and troll(T3) are able to keep moving through the grass though they are slowed and hampered in thier movements. You can tell that you are going to get a little reprieve here as the trolls struggle.

Those that had spells ready can hold them for the trolls to close or cast them if wanted. You could also do other actions as well instead. Map is coming in the mail as well.

Toros  d20=9
Friday November 18th, 2005 11:46:22 PM

Feeling relaxed with the slowdown of the Trolls, Toros is able to remember something important that he has not thought before... (d20 9>8)

Remembering that he also lets Gecktar know what this thing is to light the arrows...

OOC: Jim, could you please tell what was that thing to light the arrows..?

... to be continued

All the things that Ceil mentioned will light the arrow, a torch you already have. What you need is something to afix to the end of the arrow to burn. Arrows do not normally burn on their own. Try a strip of cloth or rag, that should do the trick.

Flat-top (AC 22 96/96 HP)  d20+13=21 d20+10=20 d6+4=10 d6+4=7
Saturday November 19th, 2005 7:20:47 AM

Flat-top load his cross bow with two bolts, but wonders where he left his bow??
Shoots at one of the Trolls, (Hitting AC 21 & AC 20 - Damages (if any) 10 hp & 7 hp.)

Flat top will put down his cross bow and take his sword for the enermy is near. "maybe that's where I lost my Bow??"

OOC: To start a fire You need lamp oil, bacon grease, a very good spell, dry grass or a flint.

OCC to DM Jim; Please forgive me, I look at Flat-top CS and found the he had a taur size cross bow and bolts.

All is forgiven Ceil. It is easy to forget what weapons you have at all times. Especially when it is a weapon you do not use all the time. :)

Ban Maeve  5d6(6+5+5+4+5)=25
Saturday November 19th, 2005 9:46:11 PM

Ban suddenly remembers that he has 2 scrolls of fireball, which the Chosen have given him. He removes one of them from a pouch at his side and says, "It is too bat that fire is the only way. I to hate to burn the grount like this." He then begins to read from the scroll, aiming at the closest troll.

OOC: T1 and T3 need to make a DC 15 Reflex save or take 25 points of fire damage (12 on a successful save).

Brahmah
Sunday November 20th, 2005 2:46:11 AM

"Let's not stick around! I think it might be good to leave while thier stuck. The Entangles will buy us time.
Lets move Chosen!" Suggests the Captain. He doesn't move until the others make thier decisions.

Flat-top (AC 22 96/96 HP)
Sunday November 20th, 2005 8:36:03 AM

Flat-top does not have to be told twice to leave, "Come! Magic Users, Let us leave while we can! This is a very good job of magic, Taurs"

Then He beats hoves, wishing the Magic userd would move faster>>>>
