Devastation

DM George
Sunday November 6th, 2005 9:16:00 PM

The group with light hearts swoop down into the city, enjoying the sense of freedom and ease of movement. They plunge down the pillar, following the circling staircase til the get to their level. Once they come out to Fence Level, they pull up short, almost ramming into the person in front of them. The scene in front of them is awesome in its devastation.

Any building that wasn't Teucri built has collapsed and the rubble strewn about like a 3 year old playing with blocks. The Crimson Shields fly on to the Giggling Ghost and find to their relief that it is still standing. However they find the tavern deserted and don't see Happy there.

After a quick inspection and several calls they head back to where they think their old apartment was. The whole block has been destroyed and tossed about. They do see several mangled bodies of wortlings and a couple shambling mounds. They also see a lion's paw pertruding from underneath a pile of rubble.

The land at the supposed spot just as the magic from the seal wears out.

Tionel
Monday November 7th, 2005 12:35:28 AM

(All I want from the apartment is my two front teeth...er, I mean, the gold that Tionel had stored there, and his four complete wardrobes. He's actually had to wear the same clothes for the last adventure! (washed several times, but the same nonetheless!) )

Tionel looks over the devastation and feels... well, devastated. Loafing about, he kicks a rock, then notices something. He brushes a bit of rocks off of it and sighs, seeing it's a discarded doll, barely fist sized. Probably left by some kid or something. How sad.

"You think the city will ever go back to normal? Six levels, all of them like this...and so many gone. ... Why'd this have to happen, anyways? Is it... What reason would the Gods have to do this? But... but, it seems like the gods weren't even involved, that the wold itself did this. Is it just natural, to destroy the city such as this? Why couldn't someone channel the nature, why did we have to fight it?" Tionel stops, realizing his questions are meaningless. "I guess it doesn't matter. The point is, we've gotta deal with this. I suppose it's our job to find the guards and help restore order.. But, you know, I really don't care for that about now. I kinda like your suggestion from earlier, about going to the woods and seeing how the elves are doing. Something important could be happening there."

Xenia (HP 41/42)  d20+16=24
Monday November 7th, 2005 8:25:37 AM

"Happy? Happy? HA-PEEEEEE?!?!?" Xenia calls out in the empty shell of the Giggling Ghost. Nobody. But there's so much stuff thrown around. He could be under it. Maybe. Deep within, Xenia hopes not.

"Daphne?" The rogue's eyes dart about for the ghost that the inn is named for. "Daphne? You here?" Who knows where ghosts go? But you can't kill them. Can you?

After she and her companions determine that Happy is not in the ghost (dead or alive), Xenia flies through the devastation toward the apartments, as though she is in a daze. All this. People. Buildings. Streets. All wrecked. She feels small and powerless. Drained of hope. From deep within, she feels the tears of despair welling up inside her, threatening to overcome her with the desire for nothing more than to throw herself into the rubble and cry.

The sight of the apartments helps. Carefully taking the lenses from her nose, she dons a pair of goggles. So begins the search, sifting through the rubble.

"Something important is happening everywhere, Tionel." Xenia's voice carries a weariness beyond her years. "Maybe we should try and track down Prionel anyway. If he ... even if he didn't make it, I think Prillana might want to have the body for burial. It might even make Sabra ... happier."

After the last bricks of the apartments are sifted through, Xenia walks across the remains of the street to the plot of ground on which were buried Momma Flaust and the orphans who died in the fire were buried, the site of the old orphanage. Just real quietly, she sits. Not doing anything. Nothing in particular. By how still she is, you might even thing she were praying.

Angus: Mage Armor & Mesage
Monday November 7th, 2005 8:32:06 AM

Angus enjoyed the flying and comments mostly to himself " I will definatley have to take spells that give flight int he near future. That was too fun and usefull."

Angus looks at the destruction and is glad that he is carrying his possessions having spent most of his gold on magic not too long ago, including the fun flying scroll.

Angus joins Xenia in searching for Happy and Daphne as he will be of no help moving rubble. "HAPPY! DAPHNE!" Angus calls repeatedly.

Angus goes to see Florin "Should we go search for your sister and parents? What type of constuction were their homes?"

Belkior
Monday November 7th, 2005 10:57:26 AM

The halfling cleric looks around Fence Level at the devastation caused by the jungle's assault on the City. When the seal's magic ends, Belkior settles gently to the ground.

Climbing to the top of a nearby mound of rubbles, Belkior looks at the ruins of the group's apartment. He didn't have anything here himself, but he can sympathize with those who did. He takes the opportunity to look for other survivors.

Belkior thinks to himself, "Now's not the time to mourn what was lost, now's when we help those left behind.". He starts looking for survivors and, if he finds any, treating their injuries.

Syr (Sub/Al)  d20+4=23
Monday November 7th, 2005 12:06:33 PM

Syr paces the dimensions of their former home.

"I think the secret compartment was over here," he calls out to anyone interested. He helps with the search, moving heavy objects and aiding Xenia as she combs through things. (Aid Another Search 23. +2 to Xenia's search.)

Wynn  d20+3=17
Monday November 7th, 2005 9:21:48 PM

Wynn helps Xenia and Syr sift through the rubble, hoping that all they will find are their belongings. The bard has seen enough death. [Aid Xenia 17]

Florin Jadenth  d20+2=19 d20+2=5 d20+3=8
Monday November 7th, 2005 10:29:41 PM

Florin flies after the others and does his best to keep up but finds the flying thing different all though fun at the same time.

At the GG Florin doesh is best to look around the place before they head off, worried about Happy and Daphne. <search:19>

At the apartments Florin does his best to help the others in the search also. <search:5 spot:8> but finds himself to distracted to really help out a whole lot or maybe because he didn't stay here that often.

At Angus's question he turns to look to Angus and sighs gently, having tried to not think of it, "My sister would of been at the temple of Flower so I can only guess she is or was safe there. My parents place was pretty sound, made of stone mainly instead of wood inless they were outside or so. I also know they kept a good number of guards on duty as they didn't trust people and also it shows off their power moreless anyway."

DM George
Monday November 7th, 2005 10:30:31 PM

The group starts moving bricks, stones and lumber in their search for their belongings. The day wears on as they get organized and start working as a team, moving more an more rumble.

After much diligent searching, Xenia gives a cry of satisfaction. She has uncovered a chest. It is the ressurection fund. Lang's money soon shows up but many of the personal items that tied them to the past seem just to be gone.

Tionel finds some of his clothes but they are torn, dirty and ruined. Lang finally digs up his arrows but they were all broken when hit by a beam. His shield has a large dent where a stone bounced off it but looks like it could be repaired. Xenia finds her pole, a gift from Wynn last year, but her other items are gone.

Nothing else is found after this search.

The city seems to give a little jerk and then another one. Could it be moving?

Lang (ac 22; hp 56/67) & Sunshine (ac 22; hp 47/47)
Monday November 7th, 2005 11:37:22 PM

Lang gathers up his money, thankful that they found it because it may be needed in the near future.

He looks at the broken arrows and wonders if he should take some of the arrow heads with him so he can craft some new arrows if he has the time and finds the other supplies needed.

OOC - George, Lang has Craft-bowmaking. In this skill it does not really talk about arrow making. Can Lang do it? If he can, what will he need to do to create arrows (thus taking arrow heads if need be)?

He also takes the shield it may come in handy also.

Wynn
Tuesday November 8th, 2005 7:56:20 AM

Satisfied that they have recovered all that can be, the bard once again voices his opinion about Prionel.

"We have done all that we can down here. We are neither carpenters nor masons. The people on the beach need our help and that may best be provided with the freeing of Prionel. The return of the elf to his home may help to calm Sabara. We must seek his release from Perimon. If Perimon resists we might seek the assistance of Lord Bael, Lorbius or the Lady Celine in changing his mind."

Syr (Sub/Al)
Tuesday November 8th, 2005 11:17:07 AM

With relief, Syr takes the box of gold from Xenia. Events of late have raised the spectre of death, and this was the group's insurance against it.

"That sounds good to me," Syr says to the half-elven bard. "We need to go back up to Gold Level anyway to see if the orphans got off safely."

Before leaving, Syr joins Xenia across the street. He bows his head and pays his respects to the only mother he's ever known.

(I'm assuming that you're back tomorrow, Scott. This will be my last post for Syr.)

Xenia (HP 41/42)
Tuesday November 8th, 2005 11:31:37 AM

Xenia rises from the graves and re-crosses the street. Without a word, she wraps her arms around Wynn and just holds him for a moment of comfort.

"'Kay. A'right. Sounds good to me too." She looks back in the direction of the Giggling Ghost as it stands amid the rubble. "Might as well. Maybe Happy will turn up later."

"But before we go ... " Xenia firms up her lip and draws her brows down into a very serious look. "I'm sorry, Florin, but I can't follow you as leader anymore. I mean, you're terribly brave and all, but I think that works against you. A leader's gotta be there to lead, and by sacrificing yourself all the time, you're taking that leadership away. It just don't work."

"I'm sorry. I really am. And you can have the rings and stuff back, if you want. I mean, in a lotta ways, you're the heart of the group. But I think the group needs a head. I'd rather have someone who'll stand at the center and make things more, you know, organized. Maybe Angus or Belkie."

"Sorry, Florin, I really am."

Belkior
Tuesday November 8th, 2005 12:43:51 PM

The halfling cleric helps moves pieces of rubble while his companions are digging through the ruins of their apartment. Belkior also keeps muttering comments to himself and barking cautions to the Shields.

"Lift with your legs, Lang. I know that you're strong, but don't strain your back."

"Watch out for nails and splinters, Xenia."

"Watch out! This slab that I'm on is wobbly and it might slide."

The physical labour is refreshing, a break from the worry and tension of the past several days. Most of all, Belkior is relieved that there are no wounded to treat, nor any bodies to inter. When he pauses to wipe his brow, Belkior marvels at how silent Fence Level is. No other people, at least as far as they've seen. It's going to take a long, long time to heal the Floating City, Belkior thinks.

Angus  d20+9=17
Tuesday November 8th, 2005 3:55:16 PM

Angus is happy that most of the groups items were recovered from the rubble. Angus is content to watch the others work and play his flute (perform 17).

Angus is shocked at Xenia's comments to Florin, not that he disagreed, and even more intrigued when she recommends him as a possible leader. Angus can not suppress a smile at the compliment. Angus rubs his chin in contemplation. "Xenia thank you for the support. It might be interesting to get a new prospective on the group. No offense Florin, you did a great job and are still an intregral part of the Crimson Shields. The leadship role seemed to be weighing heavily on you recently, especially now that you are a father too. It might be time to give you a reak for awhile."

Angus gets in the middle of the group. "We have to decide a direction for the group in addition to supporting a new leader. Per Xenia's suggestion, we should vote on a new leader and then discuss our next move or moves for the Crimson Shields. Lets take care of the leadership role first. If you will have me I will take the mantle of leader."

Florin Jadenth  d20+2=4 d20+3=23
Tuesday November 8th, 2005 6:33:01 PM

Florin is thankful the group finds atleast some of their stuff usable but that quickly changes when Xenia steps forward and speaks her mind. Florin shakes his head at what she says, having never really lost his cool or anything with the group or their opinions, "Xenia as leader I put all your lives before my own. It is my job as leader to make sure each of you make it back safe and sound and the leader assumes most of the risks, pains of failure and shares the success. Example I chose to let some anvil hearts live and leave and they burned down the orphange. I been bareing the blunt of the decision from myself and some of the group sense. We put them behind bars and we all shared the glory of it. They excaped and showed up and some people turn their glares on me like I would let them go without a word."

Florin shakes his head and looks to everyone before sliding his ring off and tossing it to Belkior, "Your a true Shield Belkior and worthy of the ring and your spot in the group. I'll except my postion back and buy my ring when it seems I have earned mine again."

Florin turns and whispers, "Come Ajax, I need you my friend." When Ajax appears Florin saddles up and speaks once clearly before moving to go to the docks, "Choose your leader and go free Prionel, I'll see if I can find a boat to get to the shore and see whats going on there." With that said Florin gives Ajax a small snap of the reigns and takes off for the docks area.

DM George
Tuesday November 8th, 2005 9:22:54 PM

The group is successful in digging up some of their belongings, and then Xenia drops her bombshell. Angus quickly steps forward to assume the leadership role, but the issue is still in doubt.

Florin steps up in dismay and throws his ring to Belkior. Is he quitting the Shields or just making a statement? Still it seems wrong to let the group go on a possibly dangerous mission without him at their sides.

Ajax, perhaps wiser than his Master, won't budge no matter how much the paladin prods him. He looks back reproachfully almost to say, "No you have to deal with this now."

OOC Before I let Florin/Justin make any rash decisions, I want to hear everyones reaction to this change in leadership. I need everyone to post a reaction to it before my next post. Even if you need to post several times, I want this to get worked out.

Belkior  d20+2=22
Tuesday November 8th, 2005 9:51:39 PM

The halfling cleric snatches Florin's ring from the air with a quick movement.
DEX check = 22

Then he jumps down to catch up with the paladin as Ajax plants his hooves and refuses to move. Belkior clutches his stirrup and looks up at Florin.

"Florin! Take your ring back!"

"I don't want to join the group this way!"

When Florin looks down, Belkior will continue. "I don't know what Xenia intended, but it surely wasn't to force you out. It's ... it's ... it's just," and Belkior gestures at the ruins of the apartment.

"It's that the past is gone, the Float is really hurting and we ... I'm saying that because I consider myself part of the Shields ... need to decide what we want to do. And we need to have some consistent direction once we've made that decision."

"That's all. The past ... it's gone. We need to put things behind us, heal and move onward. Maybe we need to be here to help the Floating City heal and grow. Maybe we need to do something else."

"Florin, please stay and help us move ahead."

Lang (ac 22; hp 56/67) & Sunshine (ac 22; hp 47/47)
Tuesday November 8th, 2005 11:58:19 PM

Lang steps forward and joins the small one in blocking Ajax, with Florin on him from leaving.

"Florin, you say, quote '... as leader I put all your lives before my own. It is my job as leader to make sure each of you make it back safe and sound and the leader assumes most of the risks, pains of failure and shares the success.' end quote."

"There you are wrong. As leader it is your job to lead the Crimson Shields. Why do you think generals all stay behind the lines leading and not in the midst of combat (and are given Colt 45's instead of machine guns)? You cannot lead if you are dead or separated from the group. As leader it is your job to direct the group towards its goals and beliefs, even if it comes back to haunt us."

"Unfortunately, another part of being leader is to put 'lesser' members of the group at risk of injury or death. I accept this fact and I would imagine the rest of the group accepts this fact also. I have been fighting most of my life. Rarely have I been the one deciding my actions."

"Florin, no one doubts your courage, passion and dedication to the Crimson Shields. No one doubts the fact that you are a Crimson Shield. Do not leave the group, your sword arm is needed by us & the orphans."

Wynn Brightsong  d20+6=17
Wednesday November 9th, 2005 12:55:00 AM

Wynn follows the dark Xenia and stands behind her, placing one hand on her back. He knew what it cost the rogue to speak out like this. He had witnessed her affection for the big human, and didn't doubt she still cared, in a way, for the big oaf. The bard studies the paladin (Sense Motive=17) and wonders if the man isn't secretly relieved to be rid of the burden that is the mantle of leadership?

"Lang speaks true!" he calls out. "Come Florin! Stand beside me in the front line of the Crimson Shields of Hope and none shall get past us!"

Angus or Belkior, it did not matter to Wynn who was called leader.

Xenia (HP 41/42)
Wednesday November 9th, 2005 8:22:43 AM

"Florin Jadenth! You stay right where you are! Don't you go. Don't go anywhere, you hear. Or I'm gonna cry." Too late. The rogue's green eyes flutter and a glistening track rolls down the side of her nose.

"You're the Heart of the group. Don't you understand? You're the moral leader no matter what title you have. And it's just by being you. We look up to you for justice and honor. We know you've taken on the burden of the orphans on yourself. And we look up to you for your selflessness. That's not gonna stop. We'll still look up to you. 'Cause you don't change who you are."

"But those are the big things. And we need someone to take care of the little minute to minute things. And you're wrong about the risks. A leader knows the risks, but he can't assume the biggest part of them, 'cause if he died, he'd be taking the leadership with him. Like Lang says. It's, like, delegating authority. And putting others at risk. We need someone in the middle to direct things. Someone who won't be getting himself hurt and maybe killed."

The rogue sniffs, and draws the back of her hand across her cheek.

"Don't leave."

Tionel
Wednesday November 9th, 2005 12:18:29 PM

Tionel returns from a little bathroom break and hears the discussion about Florin leaving a bit late. He frowns and runs a hand through his hair. Personally, he's never particularly felt that Florin was doing a bad job, though the guy did take matters into his own hand, and split the group... okay, Tionel revises himself, he guessed that he saw Xenia's point. But the guy was trying, wasn't he?
But leadership seems important to the others. Tionel refrains from voicing any opinions of his own. But as the others call after Florin, he's about to chide them for calling back and pausing the obviously pained paladin, but he holds himself, thinking that it probably won't help matters to disagree with the others over something so trivial.
Instead, in the midst of this, Tionel is just seen shuffling to the side, and pondering.

Angus
Wednesday November 9th, 2005 1:16:18 PM

Angus lets everyone say their peace and then he takes a turn at convincing Florin to stay. "Florin the Shields need you, heaven fordib we did not have any moral guidance. Some of us need it more than others." Angus's voice seems to indicate himself. "We do not want to break up the group. We all work well together. We just want to try a new prespective, thats all. Stay and be our moral compass and help us Shield those who can not protect themselves."

Florin Jadenth
Wednesday November 9th, 2005 3:28:30 PM

Florin takes a deep breath and stay seated on his horse, patting its neck gently before looking to the group and shaking his head before looking to each in turn.

After taking many moments to think over everything he finally speaks, looking to each person yet, "Leader or not my codes, personal or otherwise will never change. There are things worth risking ones life for and you ALL are more of a family then I have ever had. I want each of you too see the next day, learn the life experiences to come and will risk my life in circumstances to make sure that happens." Florin looks to Xenia for a moment and then the group again, "I did back in the cave area what I thought was right, I could not let you kill the anvil hearts then because they were beaten, unable to defend themselves and disarmed. Killing them would of been murder. I regret what it caused and I adopted Jella because I wanted to give her a life but also because I was personally having moral problems then. She gave me the courage to continue on and make sure my mistake never happens again and also knowing she is set as best I can in the Wold. Some of you questioned me adopting Jella and said it was wrong, it split my loyalties. I do not question who you are, your goals, your dreams, how you act, I except you for who and what you are. I do not ask you to change, even things I think should change I do not ask because that is you. You say some choices I make, some personal codes and edicts I hold should be changed."

Florin shakes his head and pats Ajax's neck again, "You will always be my family no matter what, no matter how great the distance. But i won't change my ideals, my dreams and my ways. I do not see this as the end of the problem either. Sooner or later something would happen and I would risk my life in defense of all of yours, it is my way and I see hard feelings the only reaction to it in the future. No rifts will be formed because of me. You are all strong and together you can fight and defeat any foe. That is my belief, that is what I see."

Florin looks to Belkior, "You my friend have gained your spot in the Shields. You are not replacing my but actually earned your spot." Florin looks to Lang, "My sword will be missed I know but I believe you all will survive, you all are survivors." Florin looks to everyone else, "My heart goes with all of you, and my lord watches over you also. I believe he does not act on his own but acts through all of us. If you belive in a god, if you truely do then he is in you and works through you."

Florin looks to Ajax and speaks to him through their bonded link, "Ajax, it is time."

(OOC:I'll reply more depending on other posts.)

Xenia (2nd Illegal Post)
Wednesday November 9th, 2005 4:55:51 PM

Xenia blinks through the tears and frowns a bit in puzzlement.

"Florin, no one's asking you to change. Are you listening to me? Have you heard anything I've said? We need someone of you're strong moral character. I didn't say anything about makin' you change."

Turning away, she buries her face in Wynn's chest.

Florin Jadenth
Wednesday November 9th, 2005 6:12:08 PM

Florin looks to Xenia and shakes his head and speaks to her, "No Xenia, you have not asked me to change directly and yet I feel you have unspokenly. If the way I act, if the way I see things and go about things is going to become a issue each time then I have two choices, change or leave before anything bad happens."

Wynn
Wednesday November 9th, 2005 7:21:48 PM

The bard looks over top Xenia's head and frown's slightly. "Follow your destiny then, paladin, but before you go, know this," the bard gently moves Xenia to one side and steps forward, "word and deed are all that we are. When you infer otherwise you make an unfair assumption."

"Sad it would be to part company in such trying times. Stay on yet a while, till we quit this floating wreck," Wynn looks behind him for concensus, "or a more worthy quest claims your heart."

Angus Illegal second post
Wednesday November 9th, 2005 7:43:48 PM

Angus is somewhat shocked by the suddeness of Florin's actions. "Wynn speaks well. Remember that we are all tied together. You are from the Float as are many of us and now some of the rest of us call this place home. Help us get the Float on the right track. More importantly, I do not think that the Shields can leave the orphans and you have adopted one, Jella. Help us make sure the orphans are safe and cared for. You helped us on this path of protection for those weaker than us, help us finish the task or a least get those we are helping on more stable footing."

Belkior (2nd Illegal Post)
Wednesday November 9th, 2005 9:31:04 PM

The halfling cleric looks around at his fellows. This is so sudden, so close on the heels of the destruction of the Floating City.

"Florin ... listen to what everyone is saying. We don't want you to go. We need you to be the moral compass of the Shields."

Belkior tugs on the stirrups of the saddle on Ajax' back. "Florin ... stay with us and help keep us on course."

DM George
Wednesday November 9th, 2005 10:57:55 PM

As the party pleads, cajols, and talks to the Florin they are all startled by a ***POOF*** sound. Everyone turns to the sound, hands on weapons, others bringing components to bear, while others think of slipping into the shadows.

All pause when they see the strange figure in front of them. It is an elderly man in rich green velvet robes. A tall conical hat is seated upon his brow overlooking a stern expression. He studies the group for a few seconds and then gingerly steps over to Florin. Ignoring all the others, he says, "My name is Master Vinic. I am the chief wizard in the employ of my master Brenden Von Otten. He has sent me here to the dusty place to fetch you. You were of service to one of his servants and my master always rewards valor and kindness.

I have grievious word of your daughter. She has become ill with some wasting disease. She is actually turning green. She is calling for you and I have been sent to fetch you."

The mage takes another look around, sniffs and says, "The building in the city is atrocious. If they only used proper planning this disaster wouldn't have happened! You will be able to find your friend in the Plateau City at the home of my master." The old cranky mage then reaches forth a hand and both he and Florin vanish.

OOC Justin has decided to retire Florin. No worries, his feeling aren't hurt. He just thought that this was as far as he could effectively play him and has decided to retire. He will be rolling up a new character and rejoin the group in the near future.

Angus  d20+7=21
Thursday November 10th, 2005 11:28:46 AM

Angus is stunned by the suddeness of everything. "Florin. Jella. The kids. Wasting disease." Angus's mouth hangs open and it takes him a few moments to get his thoughts together.

"We need to get back to the Plateau City and check up on the kids, we can not have them turn into Greenies! It seems that the Float is moving and I assume away from shore, which is good." Angus thinks hard about what he knows of the Platau City (Knowlege Local 21). "I believe the Plateau City is many days travel from this lake, but we must confirm that. We need to find out if we can get the teleport gate to operate or find someone that can signal Plateau city so that they can open their companion gate. I suggest we go by the prison on the way back to the teleport gates, so that we can check on Prionel. Time is of the essesence for the orphans!"

Angus prepares to leave the dusty ruins of their apartment, but waits for everyone.

Xenia (HP 41/42)
Thursday November 10th, 2005 12:45:33 PM

Huh? What? Huh?

Xenia blinks and wipes another tear from her face. She turns and looks up at Wynn. Life is so dramatic here. Maybe it would be better to just find a little cottage someplace settle down, have a couple of kids. *sigh*

"Stars! You're right, Angus. We sent the spores through to Plateau City! This is terrible! They could get all over the city! Plateau City's big. I mean, Big! Holy framble farming frogs. I left the wand in the keyhole thingee. Lets go."

Belkior  d20+18=25
Thursday November 10th, 2005 1:31:18 PM

The halfling cleric's attention is captured by the description of the illness that has befallen Jella. The description doesn't really sound like what affected the zombies, but it might be.
Heal = 25

"We don't know how the disease is spread, Xenia. But it's best to consider that it might be person to person. Or maybe some dust or vapour from the jungle."

Belkior thinks on it for a bit and starts fingering the edge of his tunic. "I know that that there are many devotees of Alemi there, even a cathedral. But they might not have seen this disease before. Even if all we do it alert them, it would be some benefit."

"And, if we go by the prison, Prionel may know something about the disease too. Especially if it did come from the jungle."

Tionel
Thursday November 10th, 2005 2:41:49 PM

Tionel bites his lips slightly as Florin talks of preventing the group. "Hate to break this to you, Florin, but it wasn't really you who stopped the rest of the group, it was me. I mean, I held back everyone from killing the guys. You may have backed me up, but don't think you're the only person whose morals occasionally are challenged. This whole nature-revival thing has me...well... blown away, would be the best thing I can use to describe it. I mean, why should I worship the wold, if it creates such horrors for the people I care for...?"
Tionel sighs, running a hand through his hair. He really does look quite unhappy for a second.
Then the man appears and Florin leaves. Tionel looks down as yet another innocent is impacted by nature. "That's it!" he suddenly bursts out, and with an angry tug at his neck, rips off his necklace of holly and throws it to the side. "...I don't think I can do this anymore..."

(If we're changing the group around, now might be a good time to drop Tionel as well. It's not that I don't like playing the guy, nor that he clashes with the group or anything. It's really just that I see his personal faith having been too shaken up to continue to worship nature, and to protect the people. Tionel really is surprised at all the adventuring he has done, and now that the city has collapsed, I don't think he'd want to adventure anymore. He'd probably want to return to 'Civilization', and try becoming a bard. I'm presenting this to the group, because I think now would be a good time to switch the group dynamics around a bit.)

OOC OK, I am willing to listen to any changes anyone wants to make on their characters. This needs to be worked out by Monday. Then the grace period is over. Since I will be gone all Saturday, I recommend you get on it.

I will not allow any of the chances from the artifact of Druis to be changed. Sorry Lang your stuck. I want this stuff taken off this board and emailed to me.

Mikey, please email with any thoughts you might have.

Lang (ac 22; hp 56/67) & Sunshine (ac 22; hp 47/47)
Thursday November 10th, 2005 10:45:27 PM

Lang stands in shock with the suddenness of Florin's departure. He wonders if the Shields will ever see Florin again.

Lang turns towards the group and looks them over one by one, judging them on their leadership capabilities. He chuckles to himself, wondering if any of them would let a "bugbear" lead them.

Lang looks at Angus, who appears to be accepting Xenia's choice of him at being leader of the Shields. Not a bad choice, he thinks. Angus is already used to standing in the middle of the group and ordering everyone around.

"Angus, do you think we should stop back at the Giggling Ghost and leave a message for Happy letting him know our plans for the near future?"

Florin suddenly departs and the others digest the information. They realize that the orphans might be sick. Should they rush off to their aid? Will the healers of the Plateau City know what to do? Should they look up Prionel. Where is he being held? Are the prisons even still standing?

Which way are you going?

Wynn
Friday November 11th, 2005 7:24:33 AM

"As much as we have all sworn to protect Mama Faust's children, there is little for us to do there. Florin will bring knowledge of the disease and the clerics of Plateau City will be as able to deal with this as the clerics of the Floating City. We have a larger responsibility to the people of this city who fight for their lives on the beach. We must return Prionel to the Crying Woods and calm the jungle. In all the confusion, only the Crimson Shields of Hope may know of Prionel's significance." Wynn voices his opinion to the group and then looks to Belkior and Angus for direction.

Xenia (HP 41/42)
Friday November 11th, 2005 8:42:57 AM

In her mind, Xenia is already half way to the Central Pillar and up the ramp. In her mind. At Wynn's words, she abruptly puts on the brakes.

Trust Florin. Trust in Florin.

"Yeah. Alright," she says, half to herself. Still, she sucks in one side of her dark lower lip and worries it with her teeth before she speaks. "Yeah. I think Wynn's right. Florin can take care of it."

"But I'll tell you what, why don't we just forget about Perimon, huh? I mean, I didn't get a good look at the prison, but look around. There's no one here. We might as well just head off to the prison ourselves and see if he's alright. I mean, he could be hurt, right? I mean, look at everything around you. It's pretty shaken up. Imagine being inside of it all. By the time we track down Perimon and get permission, Prionel could be dead."

"And, you know, if the door to his cell just happens to be open ... Well, who could blame him for walking out, huh? I think the biggest problem might be convincing him to go. Remember last time? He went with them not us. Didn't want to go with us back to the woods."

Xenia shrugs her slim shoulders. "Maybe he's changed his mind."

Belkior
Friday November 11th, 2005 8:45:11 AM

The halfling cleric listens to Wynn's words and considers them. "You're correct, Wynn. Florin has seen enough of the disease to provide warning to Plateau City and describe what must be done. And Plateau City has more healers who may not be needed as much as we are here."

Belkior looks around at the group. "So, as Angus said, let's go up to see what has happened to the prisons and Prionel. From what Pek said, the Dragons were defending the beach and having a difficult time of it. We may not be able to add much to the defence but somehow calming the jungle with Prionel's aid would be possible for us."

The Healer of Alemi moves up beside Angus. "Ready when you are. Let's get going - we need to get the Float on the road to recovery."

Belkior tightens the straps on his HHHaversack and prepares to start walking and climbing. He is still fingering the edge of his tunic, but not so quickly or obviously as he was.

Xenia (2nd Illegal Post)
Friday November 11th, 2005 10:41:45 AM

"Hey, um, anyone see where the little guy got himself to, by the way?" Xenia frowns and looks around. Not that she's going to find him down here, but thought translates to movement, and before you know it, you're looking around before you realize that you're not gonna find anything. "Pek, I mean? When the city came swinging back he just, kinda sorta disappeared. Hope he didn't get hurt or nothin'."

She looks around again, then tips her head to one side as though listening for something.

"Hey, anyone here get the feeling that we're moving?"

Angus
Friday November 11th, 2005 11:37:09 AM

Angus considers everyones suggestions. "I think we have alot to do here people. Xenia great suggestion about Happy. Happy has been a good friend to the shields and we should leave word with him. The GG is just down the block so we can stop there before we leave."

Taking hold of Xenia before she runs off. "We must recover the jewled key and keep it safe for return it to the gatekeeper of the gate. The gatekeepers can then let us through to Plateau City." Looking to Wynn "I agree, and as I suggested previously, we must check on Prionel on our way to the teleport gates to recover the key and find the gatekeepers. If we can not teleport to Plateau City our decision is easy; we escort Prionel back to the Jungle on our way to Plateau City to check on the orphans. That is unless the group thinks that Florin can handle it on his own? I suggest we plan a visit to Plateau City in the near future either way to say high to Florin and check on the kids." Angus looks to each group memeber before continuing "Lets me scribe a quick note for Happy before we head to the upper levels again.

Angus writes Happy a note telling that they are going to check on Prionel and the orphans in Plateau City and help who they can in the the Floating city on the way. Angus signs it. Your Friends always the Crimson Shields.

ooc Sorry for the early post but going away for the weekend and need to get it done.

As the group decides upon their direction they all troop back to the Giggling Ghost....again. Angus starts writing a note and looks up with pleasure when Happy walks back into the bar. The barkeep smiles when he sees his regulars and greets them, "Glad to see that you survived the shaking of the city." He takes a closer look and asks, "Where is your friend Florin? Is he OK?"

He goes on to describe his adventures during the release of the city. He was down at the docks with the Children of Chaos. They all got dunked but everyone was well. They were going up to the Gold Level themselves to report into the Lords and to check on some prisoner.

He confirms Xenia's suspicions that the city is moving. They are heading out deeper into the Lake. He finishes with, "Glad to see that the Underlord survived this disaster."

Xenia (HP 41/42)
Saturday November 12th, 2005 11:56:32 AM

"Happy!" Xenia throws her arms around the girth of the large innkeeper. "I thought you were maybe, you know ... Maybe under ... I dunno, well, sorta ... I'm so glad you're here!"

She kinda retreats to the background. Standing next to Wynn, she watches as the others tell Happy about Florin, the kids, the teleport gate, and releasing the city.

Children of Chaos, huh? They're still around. And headed up to Gold to ...

"Hey, uh, Happy." Xenia tries not to look at Wynn as she thinks of Niobe. "What prisoner were the Children of Chaos goin' up there to check on?"

... and speaking of that ... Stars!!! Another thought comes to the girl rogue, bouncing from one disconnected thought to another through the web of their loosely connected tangents.

"How fast are we moving, Happy? I mean, guys, if we want to get Prionel back to the woods we maybe better act fast. Before we're too far away that is. Fram!" She slaps her forehead. "Where we gonna get a boat?"

Angus
Saturday November 12th, 2005 2:47:08 PM

Angus puts away his parchment and rises to shake the innkeepers hand. "Good to see you alive and well. Looks like there is a bit of cleaning up to do in the neighborhood." Angus surveys the scene of devestation with his eyes.

Upon hearing Happy's report, Angus thinks to hims, so the arrogant chaos children survived there encounter, well that must be good for the city, lets hope so.

Angus focuses back on Happy "Xenia is right, Prionel, if he survived wanted to be returned to the Crying Jungle. Prionel is the prisoner that the Kids of Chaos are speaking of, I believe. We were going to go check on Prionel on our way to the teleportation gates. We were sucessful in sending the orphans to the Floating city and we beleive Florin is there now also. We want to go check up on them. Happy do you know who the keepers of the teleportations gates are and where we may find them. You mentioned that the gates are how you got your supplies. The City will need plenty more supplies soon and we want to hitch a ride to Plateau City to check on the arrangements for the Orphans. Our worst case senario is to walk, ride or boat to Plateau city if the gates do not operate. If the gates are not an option, do you know the fastest way to Plateau city by old fashion means?" Angus waits expentantly and hopeful of Happy's information.

Angus looks around "Happy where is Daphne? I am sure her fan club president needs to give a weekly report." Angus smiles at Xenia.

Wynn

"I'm glad Happy is safe." Tionel considers something. "Guys, if you're going into the forest... I think I'm headed back to town. To the real town," he explains. "I'll make sure Happy is safe and then I think I might stay with the people here, help them rebuild, or maybe go to the other side of the portal."

Wynn
Monday November 14th, 2005 7:42:03 AM

"Does this mean you are leaving the Crimson Shields Tionel?" The bard's face betrays the emotions that run through him, first the surprise that yet another shield has chosen to leave, secondly the sense of betrayal that others would so easily abandon the group, and finally the realization that each must make his own life. Wynn offers the man his arm in friendship. "It has been an honour..."`

Belkior
Monday November 14th, 2005 8:19:28 AM

The halfling cleric considers what Happy has reported.

"Angus, we don't know that it's Prionel that the Children of Chaos are interested in. It might be, but it's more likely related to whatever they did down on Dock Level."

Belkior continues on, addressing the entire group. "But going up there to check on him is still good to do. I mean, he left the village with us, so we're probably the ones who will be responsible for his safety in the eyes of the village. And, from what they told, in the eyes of Sabara, too."

When Tionel mentions separating from the group, Belkior turns to him. "Did we misunderstand you, Tionel? Are you planning to give up adventuring?"

Privately, Belkior is beginning to feel some self-doubt. I joined the Shields, and now one or maybe two of them are leaving. Was it me? And some of them are looking to me for leadership now. I don't know if I can do that."

Xenia (HP 41/42)
Monday November 14th, 2005 8:21:33 AM

Sharp ears pick up the conversation between Tionel and Wynn. Xenia can't help but recall the time that Tionel left her and Angus at that bar. At that time, she had kinda liked him. In that way. Life has disappointments like that. At that time, she didn't know whether to cry or to scream out her anger at him. But you learn from stuff like that. Now, at this new desertion, the girl rogue's only reaction is a grim pursing of her lips, a small but expressive commentary on ... well ... people.

But what about herself. What would it take to make her leave? She looks at the devastation all around. And she looks at Wynn. Would he leave with her? Then she remembers the oath he gave to Bralin. An oath. For the first time, Xenia gets the glimmer of an inkling of what it means to make a real promise. Just how hard things can get.

The thought puts her in awe. And it makes her afraid. She stands closer to Wynn, feeling the warmth from his side.

DM George "Departures and Arrivals
Monday November 14th, 2005 6:17:48 PM

Happy looks at Angus and then looks down at his shoes. "Your gonna need at least one pair of those, maybe two. The Plateau City is thousands of miles away. We used to be closer but several years ago, the whole Floating City moved. Your best bet is trying to use the teleportation gate. Besides your right, we are going to need them to work again soon. Without supplies, this city is going to die."

Tionel having a crisis of faith decides to leave the group for now. He wants to stay behind and help the city get back on its feet. (OOC This is Mikey's decision. He will be starting a new character soon. Since no one else came to me with any requests, the window of opportunity in now officially closed.)

Tionel walks out of the Giggling Ghost and seems to be headed to the dock area.

After some discussion, the remaining Crimson Shields head back to the Gold level and towards the prison. They aren't happy with the lose of their friends but can only hope that they will be happy in their new lifes.

After much walking the group gets up to the Gold Level without to much trouble. The damage is less up here but still extensive. The head towards the main administrative buildings hoping that is where they would keep a political prisoner. Since the main prisons where they keep the common criminals are on the lowers levels, they are hoping they are guessing right.

The main courthouse of this level is still standing. Their are 2 guards who are in front of it. They are sort of surprised to see you come walking up. You have seen almost zero street traffic. The city is still essentially deserted.

Xenia keeps a look out as the group once again moves through the streets of Gold Level. No hordes of Greenies this time. Her eyes wander over the facades of the houses. The same houses that she cased but a few weeks ago. The time she met Baronall. Looks like everyone's gone now. Maybe these mansions wouldn't be as tough to crack with all the people gone.

Hmmmm ...

The thoughts buzz along in her head as they all come up on the main courthouse. The reaction of the guards confirms her suspicions. None expects anyone to be here now. They think the place is deserted. hehe There could be piles of loot, just underneath the rubble.

The rogue looks up at the courthouse and wonders how many people are actually inside.

Belkior looks around at his companions. With Florin gone, who will be the spokesman for the group? Which one of them would be best for approaching the guards?

Angus interrupts Belkior's musings with his question to the guards. Seeing that one of his companions has come forward, Belkior will remain in the background trying to keep his legs covered from obvious view.

The guards look at Angus and their eyes go wide as they see Lang. They seem to swallow real big and level their spears point in Lang's direction.

"Is he your prisoner?" one stammers. The other one yells, "Help Help their are more monsters out here!"

In response to his yells, a double set of doors flies open and a slim elf dressed in fine platemail strides out. He is wearing two swords at his belt and has piercing blue eyes. He takes in the scene at a glance and says in light but stern voice, "What is your business here? Why do you bring a monster to the council chambers? Why is it still armed? Who are you people?"

As he asks these questions, another six guardsmen scramble out of the building and back him up.

"Sir, he is not our prisoner. He is our comrade. Unfortunately, he has been cursed by a Druid artifact and transformed into the creature you see standing before you."

"Plus, if I remember correctly, the Floating City was not attacked by goblinoid creatures. It was attacked by plant creatures. We have been fighting to free the City and not once were we attacked by creatures other than Plant creatures. Your attention towards my friend as a particpant in the attack against the Floating City is misplaced."

"We are the Crimson Shields. We have come here to check on some prisoners that escaped during the chaos recently to make sure they were safely returned to their cells. They were Anvil Hearts and their names were Jonas, Specialty Johnson and a half-orc whose name escapes me."

"We are also here to find out about the well-being of an elf that was discussing the recent events with some of the authorities of the Floating City. He is an elf and his name is Prionel and we are concerned for his safety as he was on the lower levels and he is an elderly gentlemen. Have you any information on his whereabouts?"

But the suspicion behind it is not. Who knows what sorta upside-down stuff can happen when things are so messed like they are now. Prisoners could escape their cells, kill the guards and put on their equipment. They could take over. Could happen. Sure.

Xenia turns a hard eye on the guards. Especially Plate-Mail-Elf-Boy. She sizes up the fit between these guards and their equipment, looking to see if it looks like it belongs to them, or if it looks like it mighta been someone else's up until the recent past.

The elf looks at Angus absorbing his words and then almost seems to glide over to Lang. You realize how short he seems as he walks up to the large bugbear ranger. He looks into Lang's eyes, and then up and down. "Well beast, these others seem to think your something special. Cursed they say. Sounds like you might have run across the Knot of Druis. It has been known to do things like this."

The elf looks over at Belkior taking in his legs. "I am assuming you took a turn as well? You humans are so impetuous. Halflings even more so."

He looks back at the Bugbear, "So can you speak or has your throat been sealed. I am inclined to believe the story. Things have been so insane around here lately. What is one man turned into a bugbear? Still I don't envy you. Not everyone is as understanding as I am." He seems to be waiting for Lang to say something.

He glances over at Wynn and says, "My aren't you the name dropper. Still if they are your friends, then you can't be all bad. Powerful Lords and Ladies all. I haven't heard of your these thieves but I must admit, I really don't care. Whatever their crimes, horrible as they might be, the city has worse problems.

I have heard of this Prionel. He isn't here. He was in the care of Lord Perimon. I haven't seen him lately, but I doubt he would leave an important prisoner unguarded. Most likely he is on the beach or teleported away to some safer local.

He sudden stops, staring hard at Wynn. "I see you tempted fate as well. Not a bad thing to have. You can visit my brethern of the sea. Useful to have in a city that floats in a giant lake."

He smiles and looks at the group and continues, "I am sure you have had some interesting adventures. That your even alive speaks well of your prowness or good luck. Still I have many duties to perform. Stay out of trouble." He starts to head back into the building.

After a polite pause for the guard to respond, Belkior speaks quietly to his companions. "Ahhh ... the Anvil Hearts are like bad pennies - they'll always turn up. Probably when we least want them to."

He disappears back into the building and the six guardsmen follow him, leaving the original two on duty.

One stands forward and with a stern voice says to Xenia, "You should be more polite to the Captain. He is regretting his choice on this Fey King. His entire family has been wiped out. His two girls killed when their house collapsed. His wife carried off and fed to a tree or so I am told. Why don't you just move on? These prisoners you seek aren't here. Wynn bows ever so slightly before turning to leave.

Xenia (HP 41/42)

Xenia draws inside herself. Her face is still hard, but she says nothing. The dark girl stares off into the middle distance, and makes no movement to give away what she might be feeling, the thoughts that might be going through her head.

But, as Wynn turns to go, she takes his arm, and hugs it fiercely to her, as the group makes their way back out into the midst of the shattered city.

Angus (cont.)
Thursday November 17th, 2005 11:06:01 PM

Angus turns back to face the guards when he hears the guardsman rebuke Xenia for the Shields comments.

"We have all lost someone in this tragedy. Some don't even know if they have lost someone as we do not know what has happened in other parts of the Wold."

"The elf at least had the choice to keep this devastation from happening. Many of the innocents that have been killed had no choice. His choice should not blind him from his duty or from people who are trying to help the Floating City and its citizens."

"Who is going to pick up the pieces from the elves folly?" Angus asks rhetorically.

Once again, Angus turns around and leaves.

Lang and Sunshine continue to walk away from the building and the guardsman. He tries to remember where Perimon lives or where he may be keeping Prionel, but is too angered to think straight.

Everyone is worried about themselves. No one is thinking of the greater picture of getting the city back in order. What are these guards doing here? Doing nothing, while people suffer on the lower levels and probably on this level.

All this does is make Lang angrier. Sunshine whimpers, sensing Lang's rage.

Idly he strokes his shortswords, wondering if it might be time for the Shields to 'persuade' Perimon to release Prionel into their care.

Xenia turns swiftly, her face under a dark cloud. Her lips are pursed in a thin line, and the muscles at the delicate curve of her jaw jump with tension.

"Don't you start with elves, Angus," she whispers in a soft hiss. "Just you don't. Alright?"

Again, she hugs Wynn's arm before letting go and stalking off up the street and out of sight. The rogue wades into the nearby rubble. This is Gold Level. Maybe there's some good stuff here. At least looking through things might take her mind off of being so upset-ish.

Syr
Friday November 18th, 2005 8:52:26 PM

Syr thinks back to the phrase '4 in 10'. By that logic, their group fared well except for the departures of two of their eldest memmbers. Then the images of children dropping from the window and Florin trying to catch them spring up. Tears almost come and he turns to Angus, "Right now, after all we've been through, I could care less about Prionel, elves, or the city. Look at everything around us, where do we start to recover..." Quiet for a while a thought springs up, "Hey, what do you guys think of using the resurrection fund to build a new house? We gotta start somewhere, right?"

Wynn
Friday November 18th, 2005 8:58:48 PM

The bard shakes his head as Angus cannot forgoe the last word and sends his not so subtle barb the way of the captain. Xenia is quick to react and Wynn is left wondering if Xenia's choice for leader has the diplomacy and tact required to keep the group together.

"Come Angus, there is nothing to be gained here. They simply protect their captain who clearly has earned their respect." Wynn gently tugs the mage away from the guardpost and tries to get him moving after Lang and Xenia. "This is not a time for finding fault my friend" he speaks softly. "There are Crimson Shields who have contributed to these troubles as well, and if you desire to lead them...us, then look forward and lead on, for looking back you will only find remorse."

Belkior
Friday November 18th, 2005 10:11:56 PM

The halfling cleric follows along in the wake of the group. Belkior is thinking about all the losses here in Floating City ... people most of all, buildings, friendships ... and much more.

DM George

The group heads away each with their own thoughts. Each is thinking about the terrible mess the city is in. The lives lost. Some count themselves lucky. Others seem to be giving in to dispair. The over riding question is "What should we do now?"

As the group wanders somewhat aimlessly, Lang hears a voice. It is very faint and sounds muffled. He tilts one of his hairy ears, (yes they can move independently now) and tries to locate the source. He heads towards a large building that has collapsed. The muffled calls seem louder now and closer.

Lang looks around, Could their be surviviors underneath all that rubble?

Angus
Friday November 18th, 2005 11:27:52 PM

Angus holds most of his thoughts to himself at Xenia's words "We can save the debate on voting rights for another time. Lets move on. If Prionel is not here, maybe we can find word of what happened to him on our way to the teleportation gates. Everyone keep your eyes and ears open and lets talk to as many people as we can to find out what has become of Prionel and Perrimon."

Angus's perks up when Syr mentions the resurection fund. "I agree that the resurection fund could be put to better use. I feel that most of the funds are actually yours Syr as you have been putting into the fund the longest. We may not want to spend it all on a house, but it is a good idea to get some people employed in the city. We may also want to visit the Catacombs with the new funds once we get to Plateau city. The orphans may need some help also. Lets hear your suggestion on the topic of how best to use the funds?"

Angus starts off toward the teleportation gates.

Lang's anger at the confrontation with the guardsmen dissipates rather quickly when he hears cries from the rubble of a nearby building.

Moving quickly over to the building, Lang calls out, "Is somebody in there? Can you hear me?"

Lang listens for an answer, all the while looking at the pile to see where to start lifting off rocks to get below if there are people trapped.

"Fripping frog's ears," the rogue swears under her breath. With an angry toss, she throws the stick with which she's been probing the rubble up and over a wall. Then with her ten-foot pole over one shoulder, she picks her way over to join Lang.

"Someone in there?" she asks rhetorically, before she begins searching herself.

From inside the rubble... (Player Mikey)
Sunday November 20th, 2005 12:46:19 PM

From inside the rubble of the collapsed building, a faint sound of tumbling rocks and crumbling brick can be heard. A soft sound, like the echo of splashed water, can be heard from within. Then, hearing your own cries, it picks up.
"Could you please help us out, kind people?" A clear soprano cries, audible when one presses one's ears to the rocks. It sounds slightly strained, as though someone in pain or struggling.

It takes a few minutes, and heavier rocks are moved. There's the sound of more rock shifting, and Belkior's advice is well-spoken. Carefully, moving the rocks out, eventually the voice gives out an ebullient gasp of joy as it sees sunlight. A second later, a beam laden with rocks that looks to weigh about half a ton is lifted, and tugged to the side with a collossal effort of strength.
The first thing you see of her is the rough leather gloves with small metal spikes on it, reaching up to the sides of the rocks to easily grab a purchase. Then the other hand comes out, similarly mailed, but with an impressive shield attached to the arm. A proud lion's face snarls out from it, its mouth wide open to display many steel teeth. Other than her gloves and her shield, the rest of her arms wear no armor at all, and are noticeably muscled. It takes almost no effort to pull the rest of herself out.
She pulls herself up to stand overwhelmingly before you at a nearly six and a half feet tall. Her whole body is muscled, and much of it is visible, revealing sleek curves and an impressive physique. There is, of course, her armor, a shirt almost molded to her body's shape by dwarven craftsmanship. It is gleaming silver, which you realize is adamantine, the most precious and hardest of metals. Several metal pieces fletch out, forming deadly warnings to those who would attempt to do anything so much as try to grab her. She wears rugged fur high shorts and low boots which, like her armor and her gauntlets, leaves most of her limbs free for movement.
Even her face seems to match that of a statue's, with strong features and a hawkish nose. Her eyes are clear blue, and her hair like flaxen wheat, pouring down her back to her shoulders. On top of her head is a small round helmet, with a small horse's tail going back and two large horns sticking to either side.
"My name is Famina, and my thanks go to you. When that building collapsed, we managed to get under a structural beam. We have been trapped under there for what must be a day now."
While speaking, others come out of the hole; inhabitants of the city that appear quite thankful at being released, and clueless as to what has happened since the plants appeared.
"Tell me, are the plants gone now? You," she says, looking amongst the Crimson Shields, "look as though you are not members of the guard, but are armed nonetheless. Are you irregulars of some sort, come to fight the plants?"

Angus (second post)

Angus abandons the trek to the teleportation gates while the rescue is in progress and is very interested to she what emerges from the rubble. "Belkior check her to make sure she is not injured or have any other malidies." Angus hopes that belkior get the message about checking for plant sickness.

Angus asks Famina. "You said we are there more of you buried under the rubble?" Once the issue of more survivors is addressed Angus answers Famina question. "Irregulars, I guess you could call us that. We have been battling the plants for the last day or so, but our major effort was to find saftey for a large group of orphans, who we were on our way to check on. We are a mix and matched group who have taken it upon ourselves to help this group of orphans and any that seem in need of assistance. Where do you hail from Famina and what might be your particular talents?" Angus asks, very curious about Famina's outfit and size.

"Hiya, Famina." The dark half-elven girl gives a little hand wave thing by way of greeting. She gives Angus a sidelong glance. (Sense Motive 17) What's the sense in not telling her 'bout the spores? The rogue gives a mental shrug.

"The plant monsters look to be pretty much gone. The ones that were left sorta got smashed when the city took a swing, if you know what I mean."

"Yeah," Xenia considers where these folks must have been when the vines cut loose, "I bet you do know what I mean."

"So, whacha doing up here on Gold Level? And what's this place your all buried in, huh? I mean, what was here before it got wrecked? Some rich guy's home?"

(OOC:Sorry for not posting sooner. I would guess that Ashlan would of been in the same area as Famina.)

Once the rubble is moved away and Famina and some of the other people who were in the rubble come out a average height man walks out slowly, each step causing a junggle from the spurs he wears. His clothing from head to toe is a simple dark black and silver trimmed tunic with a jacket that looked to be made from leather or some other stiff fabric, he pants were also black to match his boots with the silver colored spurs on them. At his waist hanging from his belt was a small silver chain with a silver symbol of Jancassis on it. The man wore a a kukri and a longsword at either hip and a dark cloak made the rest of his outfit.

The man motioned a gauntleted hand at the group before him, "Hmmm, I don't like oweing a debt to anyone but it seems you all came along at just the right time." Ashlan watches each person carefully before speaking his line of work always warranted caution, "My names Ashlan Sinclair, who may I ask are you all who just saved us?"

Several people are pulled out of the wreckage, many are hurt and weak from lack of food and water. It seems that the building used to be a tavern or inn of some sort and collapsed with the first tilting of the city many several days ago. The surviviors were caught in a small pocket. They had some small provisions but not much. When the city was freed, the rest of the building collapse but slid some of the rubble away.

Two of the surviviors are obvious adventurers. Neither originally hails from the Big Float. They recently arrived before all the troubles through the teleportation gates as guards for a prospereous merchant. They doubt they still have a job.

Obviously the group quickly realizes that one of these adventurers follows a dark goddess and take steps to protect themselves. Ashlan is a little surprised that he is receiving this reception. Still Jancassis isn't always received well.

The elf wakes from his depressed musings to come join the others and the newcomers.

He looks at Xenia in surprise at her quick reaction to things drow. Thinking to himself that there must be more of the story there he resolves to ask later.

Jumping into the middle, "Woah now! Didn't you learn enough from my poor example in the Ghost as to when you shouldn't jump to conclusions? Besides, I seem to recall another drow that we heard out before judging." (Diplomacy 32) He looks at Xenia pointedly.

With piercing eyes he seems to size up what it would cost take to take down Ashlan. "Why don't we ask ... Famina... is it... about his character? Granted she is probably biased but still let's hear them out."

Famina
Tuesday November 22nd, 2005 1:22:36 PM

Famina gives Syr a grateful smile, for she had just been about to step forward to come to the man's defense. And now, she doesn't need to be so rude.
"Please, sirs, and lady, this one is not a drow, though if he does worship a drow goddess I did not know of it, because to be honest I am not entirely familiar with the customs and habits of those beyond my homeland. Instead, I base my opinions upon actions, and this one, during the avalanche of the implosion, drew not selfishly to himself, but shouldered the burden of protecting others." She nods to the survivors. "Many of them, you see, had been wounded when the building collapsed,a nd some were of a more serious nature. He used his spells to bind their wounds. And not to harm them. We all slept in his presence. If he had wished it, he could have destroyed us.. in fact, we all knew that with so many of us underground we were more likely to die faster. One person by himself could have survived far longer. You see what devious plot my words indicate could arise in a man with evil cunning? Now, I ask you, are those the actions of a man with a black heart?" With that said, Famina gives Ashlan a shoulder thump of comradery.

DM George I don't mind some free thinking and role playing but he didn't do any spells. Please be careful on what you say without the proper knowledge. Ashlan isn't a spell user.

Ashlan Sinclair
Tuesday November 22nd, 2005 8:17:51 PM

Ashlan looks to everyone and their reaction and takes it all in stride and only gives Wynn and Xenia a flicker of interest when they pull their weapons. His own hands stay a small distance from his own also and after each person speaks he speaks up finally, his eyes darting to Xenia's eyes first and leveling there for moments before moving to Wynn's, "Interesting welcome and I advise sheath it or I will be forced to react in kind and since I didn't come out with weapons ready or such I think it's not asking much and none the less there is no money in us fighting and not worth my time in that case."

Ashlan awaits the reactions before looking to the group as a whole thats before him, "Money drives me, point blank and period. However I also serve vengence on those I believe deserve it or have it coming. My blades work for those two things other then protecting my own neck, any threat against either of those things will cause my blades to act and I hold no time for words in explanation in that case. This is my way as a prefessional mercenary."

Ashlan depending on people's reactions now moves to the side and pulls out his harmonica and begins playing a small tune on it while the others do what they need. (if i can i will just take 10 on this action)

DM George

The tension mounts and then lessens as this new man pulls out a harmonica and plays a tune. The two newcomers decide to join you for now as they take in the new situation in the city. The group heads back to the teleportation gates.

They arrive to find a group now at the warehouse. Most are soldiers but 2 seem to be cut from a different cloth. One looks to be a mage while the other seems to be a merchant.
The key they found earlier has been removed and put into the other gate. It now is humming but the first gate still seems closed.

The guards see you moving towards them and tense. They stare hard at you and hands stray to their weapons, but they don't pull them. The mage notices and sees you. He studies you for a moment as well and then starts striding towards you. "Hello, Good to see some other living souls in these parts. Are you from the beach?" the mage inquires. He looks young. No older than 25 years of age but seems to have an experience eye that denotes a professional at his job.

Wynn
Tuesday November 22nd, 2005 9:22:14 PM

The bard backs away from the mercenary and sheathes his weapon. "We are called the Crimson Shields of Hope", Wynn emphasizes the last word for affect. "I doubt you will find travelling with us very profitable, nor will you find assistance here in exacting your revenge. The need for vengence has already sundered this companionship and turned a once noble paladin into a lesser man. I'll have no part in it."

Wynn keeps his distance from Jancassis' man during the rest of the trip to the teleportation gate.

"Angus, what about those on the beach? Are they not deserving of our efforts. Should we not search farther for Prionel?"

Ashlan Sinclair
Wednesday November 23rd, 2005 12:02:12 AM

Ashlan looks to Xenia along the way and shakes his head as they make their way to the teleporting gate. He moves up beside her all though at a distance yet and speaks up, "Dear lady your tongue cuts like a vorpal sword however I would ask you be more careful in speaking so freely. Looking to a god for guidance at times does not make me a drow lover or hater. I serve no god, just look to one that covers some of my beliefs. i don't ask you like it or except it, however I don't want to fight you and we can leave it as that." He shrugs again and before falling back again says one last thing, "Judge one by their actions and you seen no actions from me yet."

Ashlan also glances to Wynn and thinks a moment, "Profit is as you look at it also. I work for what seems good at the time. Enough to buy food and drink, enough to live off of for some time, such as that. An the vengence part, I ask no one to help me on that. My mentor died in prison. I seen enough hate and anger there to last me a life time and hate people that cause such problems. I make the process simple, I see such things happening I deal with it." Ashlan shrugs and once again offers his hand to Wynn, "Anyway, the name is Ashlan Sinclair. A simple human traveling mercenary. I had pondered possibly joining a group a few times since jobs are getting tougher solo but maybe it's not such a wise idea if all people judge so quickly. However you seem to see alittle more in a person then others I guess."

Ashlan once they reach the teleporter gate stops with a clink of his spurs and thinks over the place they lead or what little he remembers, to many towns and to much traveling lays behind and ahead of him to keep places in memory. His only hopes is his reputation won't proceed him or he will be remembered for helping those the law could not or would not.

Ashlan thinks of his outfit abit and ponders changing it to something else since this is the outfit people will remember but decides otherwise as he glances to the other Shields. Feeling Lang might be the best one to, he moves over by Lang and stays over by him, a small distance once again but feeling maybe the large bugbear might be more friendly then others have been thus far, "I don't usually talk this much but since you seem more like a quiet and more friendly person, greetings and nice dog you have there." Ashlan holds his hand out to Lang, "As I said to the others, the name is Ashlan Sinclair. Before I continue if you prefer I'll move away also, seems red over there would prefer I stayed buried. Shame you risk your neck for some people against some plants, get buried with them and then rescued just to be hated. First the line or work and not the god I look to for guidance." Ashlan sighs, "ohh well, gotten use to being alone since parents left when i was born and the man who taught me about being a mercenary was murdered in prison, shouldn't change I suppose." Ashlan looks to Lang figuring the man might understand some since he is a bugbear in a world of people who most likely don't except him. Ashlan however was different and looked past what a person was and to their personality and how they reacted and acted.

Angus
Wednesday November 23rd, 2005 12:03:52 AM

Angus is glad that tempers have been reduced to a low boil as he wants to move on. Angus thinks to himself, we have so much to do.

Angus looks to the two newcommers. "Ashlan and Famina, you are welcome to tag along for now. My friend Wynn is correct, in that this has not been a profitable group lately and it became too big a strain on two of our number. We go to check on one of them now. As I said you can come along, but you must earn our trust and carry your own weight or we will have to part company."

Angus turns to Wynn. "I agree that Prionel is important, but the guard did say that the Kids of Chaos were also looking after him. I realize that it is our responsiblity, but so are the orphans. We dumped the kids in a foreign city and are not sure that Florin has caught up with them yet. Lets check on the kids, resupply and then get back hear and try to find Prionel and help our adopted city."

Angus then strides over to the young mage. "Angus Deminoff of the Chrimson Shields." Angus offers his hand. "How goes the battle? We are not from the beach, but have been battling by the Giggling Ghost and on the open air level. At least the city is free of the vines. How does the guard and under and overlords plan to bring this great city back to its splendor and repopulate it?"

Angus will wait for his reply and then add. "We are looking to make a quick journey to Plateau City to check on some orphans we sent through. We do want to come back. How can we arrange that? Also, have you heard word on the Ancient elf, Prionel, that is a guest of Perrimon. We had pledged to escort him back to the Crying Woods. Prionel was escorted to Perrimon just before nature went crazy and attacked the Float."

"And we don't get any money for it! Got it? So pike off!"

"Angus, are you out of your mind?" she hisses. "Look, Leather Lady looks harmless enough. But this guy comes on all Profit and Vengeance, then he backs off when he finds out we're the good guys. Doesn't that sound funny to you? I mean, Jancassis is an EVIL god, for Star's sake."

The halfling cleric listens to the exchange between Xenia and the man that they found under the collapsed building. Belkior has had the opportunity to think about what he was taught about the followers of Jancassis.

"Angus, Xenia speaks the truth. Jancassis is a God of Testing and most of her followers are evil. Not all, mind you, but most of them. And she is the preferred Goddess of the drow, although no one really knows why."

Turning to the rogue, Belkior continues. "Xenia, like I said, not all the followers of Jancassis are evil. Some manage to somehow reconcile their beliefs with doing acts of good. But none openly worship their deity ... especially the good ones."

Looking now to the newcomer, the halfling Healer looks up at him. "Which is it? How do you openly worship Jancassis and say that you do good? Xenia has the right of it ... we've been working to protect and better the lot of the people of Floating City. Not for money, but because it's the right thing to do."

When they get to the teleporter, Belkior will allow Angus to do the talking.

Famina
Wednesday November 23rd, 2005 1:03:13 PM

((Whoops! I made a big mistake in that last post, and took way too many liberties. Sigh. Guys, I think my attempts to make a good intro kinda overstepped their bounds..my apologies to all, especially since I messed up the character of Sinclair totally. Looks like he's gotten the right impression off tho.))
Famina is glad to accompany the others, and now that she hears more about this Jancassis, she's not sure she likes him. She eyes the bugbear and smiles slightly.
"Understand my words to be good-intentioned; If one such as you has been accepted by a group of what seems to be good-hearted heroes, perhaps you can allow at least time to see the true nature of this one to shine through." The tall myrmidon considers something, then says to the group, "I have been asking questions about why the plants are attacking the city, and many blame the elves for some sort of magic they have done. I remember the dream, well, a glimpse of it, and everything seemed to go wrong since then. Was this Prionel for the rebirth of that being? You say he's from the Crying Woods? I thought that they were uninhabited..."
Obviously, there is much for Famina to learn before she can contribute much to the group's knowledge.

Angus (second Illegal post)
Wednesday November 23rd, 2005 5:06:57 PM

Angus looks to Xenia and gives his half of the exchange. "Hey, you and I were given a chance in this group. I on one hand am gratfull for everyone trust in us. We can do the same to them and we are seriously down in fighting capacity. Xenia your point is taken, but lets give them a try, keep our eyes open. They can consider it a probationary period and they stand no watches until they have earned our trust, and this group does not give its trust easy."

Angus again turns to the new commers and pronounes "Are you up to the task of earning our trust? How can you better our group and our causes of helping those that need assistance? We are out for profit, but not at all costs, so be ready to keep yourselves under control. It seems that you two are interested in testing, well consider this your first test. Answer well."

Angus crosses his arms over his chest and waits for responses from Famina and Ashlan.

Syr
Wednesday November 23rd, 2005 5:32:00 PM

Syr watches the interchange without interferring although he does gravitate toward Xenia. Sizing Ashlan up, it appears the man can defend himself if need be. Whispering to Angus, "Right now, we could do with some of his money oriented attitude. We need a new place and who knows how the orphans are faring?"

Answering the newcomer, "You have the right of it, we elves are to blame." He sighs sadly. "As near as I can tell, we allowed nature to run amok and this is the consequence." He waves a hand all around him before continuing. "Prionel is a leader of the elves from the Woods that was taken into custody after we delivered him to the city. We were just hoping to find out what has happened to him."

Lang (ac 22; hp 56/67) & Sunshine (ac 22; hp 47/47)
Wednesday November 23rd, 2005 9:43:39 PM

Lang shakes the man's hand when he offers it to him. He sizes the man up and down, trying to discern anything more about the man called Ashlan.

In a neutral voice, Lang says, "You may stand as close or as far away as you want. I did not help rescue the lot of you just to get in a fight over what god you may or may not worship. There are bigger problems to worry about right now."

"My name is Lang and this is my faithful companion Sunshine. I also have been a mercenary most of my life. If you plan on tagging along with us, I hope you are good with your weapons because trouble always seems to find us."

With that Lang turns his attention back towards the gate and the people guarding it.

Wynn
Wednesday November 23rd, 2005 10:33:46 PM

The bard bites his tongue when Angus the 'mercenary' their company. He has to choke back an angrier response when the spindly mage insinuates that Tionel and Florin left due to lack of profit.

Wynn retreates to the back of the group, away from Ashalan and resolves to keep a very careful eye on him.

"I don't know Xenia" he whispers. "The tall one looks fine to me, but this other one smells of trouble."

DM George
Wednesday November 23rd, 2005 10:36:18 PM

The young mage listens to Angus and says, "I don't know the plans for the city. I think they are just trying to get some distance from the shoreline for now. Then they need to get the population off the beach and back to the city. Gonna be tough as the city is still attacking but the soldiers will manage I suppose. I do know that we have opened our side of the gate. Only the gatekeepers from the Plateau City can open theirs. I hope they do it soon. Food is very scarce and without some shipments coming in soon, the population is gonna be very hungry."

The gate that leads to the Big Float suddenly flares and a man steps through. He has a wand out and seems very tense. His eyes dart here and their and when he sees the livery of the soldiers, he seems to relax. He walks forward with a smile on his face and claps the young mage on the shoulder. "Carn, it is good to see you again lad." His glance takes in the view out the warehouse door and his smile fades. "I see you have been through some hard times. Is this side secure? We have a wagon train of goods waiting on our side but we have been afraid to send them through."

The mage then looks at the Crimson Shields and his frown deepens. "Ahhh you realize that there is a bugbear over there right?"

The group senses many eyes on them. It seems like someone is watching them from afar.

Smiling at the man stepping through the gate, he turns on the charm (charisma 15) ad gestures casually at Lang, "It's okay. He's with us and we are the ones to shut down the gates in the first place when they were threatened by the plant people."

With a slight frown, "By chance, do you have an update on an orphanage of children that was sent through?"

Wynn
Thursday November 24th, 2005 7:41:30 PM

Wynn smiles wryly at the gate traveller, "Bugbears are the least of my worries friend." The bard gives Lang a hearty thump on the back before continuing. "Yes, tell us what you know of a group of orphans sent through the gate just yesterday. Are they safe? Did a man named Florin find his way to them?"

Belkior  d20+6=20
Thursday November 24th, 2005 8:44:09 PM

The halfling cleric looks around, wondering where people might be watching from. If it is a spell, Belkior is unable to determine what it might be.
Spellcraft = 20

Belkior crowds close, waiting for the answer to Syr's and Wynn's questions.

Lang glances at the man who questions why there is a Bugbear amongst the people standing near the gate.

Before he can respond, he gets the sensation that someone or something is watching them. The sensation is confirmed when the hair on Sunshine's back rises and he emits a low growl.

"Someone or something is out there and it is watching us."

He quickly draws his shortswords and scans the area for hostiles.

Xenia (HP 41/42)
Thursday November 24th, 2005 10:57:06 PM

Xenia nods in reply to Wynn. She walks cautiously away, keeping one eye on, Jancassius Boy.

"It's as secure as it's gonna get for a while," the rogue answers the mage guy. "Why don't you have them send the wagon through? Though I don't know if the folks that the supplies are bound for are still gonna be alive. Looks betcha like a lot of folks were killed when the city let go. That is, along with most of the monsters that were hangin' round."

She peers through the gate, looking once again to see to the other side.

"I think, Lang," she says, "that the eyes that you feel on you are probs coming from the other side of the gate. Folks over there looking through, ya think?"

Angus  d20+9=17 d20+7=17
Friday November 25th, 2005 1:33:49 PM

Angus is glad to see the gate open and watches it workings carefully (arcane Knowledge 17) with interest, attempting to determine how it works. When the wizard mentions the Bugbear he also lends his voice to lang's defense. "Good sir, we have had difficult times recently and several of us were effected by a powerful druid magic. The bugbear that stands before you was a human yesterday, he himself is just getting used to his new form, unless you have an suggestions on how to change him back?"

After the wizard answers, Angus steps closer to him with his hand outstreched. "My name in Angus Deminoff, and I am part of a group call the Crimson Shields. We sent the 50 or so orphans through yesterday, as we were is great peril at the time. As our charming friend, Syr, indicated, we are very curious on their safe keeping. We believe one of our number is now also in your fine city, Florin a Paladin of some note. Do you know if Florin and the orphans have meet up? Also may we have safe passage into the Plateau city to check on our charge and to reequip ourselves for the coming struggles of righting the Floating City?" Angus brushes dust of his fine cloak while listening to the wizard. (Diplomancy 17).

When the Wizard is done speaking Angus will turn to Carn. "Do you have any word on Prionel or Perrimon?"

Famina
Friday November 25th, 2005 1:47:10 PM

Famina smiles to the guard and decides to address him (And the unseen eyes) herself, attempting to lend credence to the Crimson Shields' words. She steps forward and pats the mage on the shoulder in what she hopes is a comforting way. "Do not worry, sir, it seems like with us around the gate will be guarded. Our enemy is not man, remember, but plant...and it seems like the plants are finally gone. But in case they aren't," she draws her sword and lets it point to the air, "my sword will stand in defense of this gate, as well as these companions, I am sure."
Normally, it would be a somewhat ridiculous thing to do, to draw one's sword to make a point. But somehow, with Famina at least, it seems natural. Perhaps it's because her eyes actually do hold firm, and she genuinely believes in what she says.

DM George
Friday November 25th, 2005 9:23:18 PM

The merchant/mage and the young mage Carn take all of the information in as several of the Crimson Shields talk to them. Both step back and look wary when Lang draws his weapons. They see him scanning the area and realize what is bothering him. "No worries my bugbear friend. Friendlies from the Plateau City are scrying us making sure that this side is secure."

The merchant/mage then turns to Angus and answers, "Yes I heard that a group of young refugees came through the gate the other day. Master Von Otten took care of the toll and I hear that he is housing them quite comfortably. I am sorry but that is all I know."

He looks around and says mainly to himself, "I guess the area is secure enough." He takes out two flags and starts signaling with them in the air. After a few moments, the second gate leading to the Plateau City starts humming and activates. Almost simultaneoulsy a team of horses appear in the second gate, then a second team. They are pulling a large wagon. Several of the soldiers rush up with scroll to take inventory. Though times are still tense, they seem to be getting back to normal.

Ashlan Sinclair
Saturday November 26th, 2005 1:46:04 AM

(OOC:George, Ashlan would of taken some jobs since becoming a true mercenary so if you don't mind I will expand on his storyline here if you don't mind to show alittle of what he has done.)

Ashlan watches the things going on and otherwise has went silent deciding to let things sit for now. He does reach down and unhook the chain with the symbol from his belt and pockets it so it is not showing, thinking that if the thing has caused this much trouble then it might be a good idea to keep it more hidden from site. Beyond this though he moves to the side and just leans against the wall before pulling out his harmonica, tapping it in his palm before looking to Belkior, speaking strictly to him, "Well friend you asked so I shall say, my allegiance to vengence extends only as far as I see fit. In the town just beyond that gate you stand near there is a couple which had two sons. One was murdered and I heard about it shortly after entering the city. After hearing the law there would do nothing about it since the man who did it left the city and since the couple weren't able to handle it themselves, I hunted the man down."

Ashlan pops the harmonica on his palm again and looks to Belkior, "Shame he would not come in to the city to stand for trial but I gave him the option. However when he pulled his weapon and attacked that option went out and be judged by me came in." Ashlan looks to the harmonica as if it's a dear friend and then pockets it again, "I left a few cities with people that needed help for a murder or some wrong was caused against them and I worked for vengence and justice for them. I might be looked down on by most, making a profit off of someone else pain but even though I make a profit frm it I usually bring a sense of closure to those I do it for and sometimes I do not charge at all since sometimes the murder or such crime is so bad it hits a nerve."

Ashlan glances to Belkior and shrugs, "An if you don't believe me on what I said then ask one of the Plateau guards. I'm sure one of them will remember the murder of a young man, around 13. Dragged into a ally area and killed for alittle less then 20 gold a few months ago. The kids murderer was brought in dead 4 days later by me."

Lang (ac 22; hp 56/67) & Sunshine (ac 22; hp 47/47)
Saturday November 26th, 2005 1:39:17 PM

Lang sheathes his shortswords once he realizes there is no immediate danger. He nods his head slightly towards the young mage for explaining the watching sensation.

"Well Angus what do you suggest we do? The children appear to be safe for now. Do we go through the gate to see them or head to the Crying Woods and have some fun slaying plants?"

Wynn
Saturday November 26th, 2005 2:46:24 PM

"Belkior" the bard taps the cleric lightly on the shoulder. "Is it possible that you or one of your clerical bretheren could determine the location of our friend Prionel through some form of divination?"

Angus
Saturday November 26th, 2005 6:44:17 PM

At Lang's inquiry Angus responds. "The orphans have been gone for one day. Lets make sure they have long term lodging taken care of. We can go and take care of them and then reequip ourselves and return for Prionel."

Angus looks to the merchant mage. "You mentioned a toll, How much is it per person and can we get a volume discount?" Angus smiles.

Before addressing the Shields Angus turns to Carn again. "Any word on Prionel or Perrimon?" (THird time asking??? Or are they ignoring me??)

Angus turns to the remaining Shields. "Lets put it to a vote before we go chack on our small charges. Do these two new comers join us on a probationary basis? I vote yea on both counts, but they stand no watches and we keep a close eye on them, at least until they can prove their worth. We are a bit short now and could use the manpower."

Xenia (HP 41/42)
Sunday November 27th, 2005 10:15:44 AM

"That's a pretty good idea, Wynn," Xenia agrees, her hand tucked into the crook of his arm. "Temple of Alemi is on Gold Level too. Right, Belkie? Shouldn't take too long to run down there and see how they're doing. And maybe we could find someone to, like, detect evil on these two guys following us."

"Angus Deminof," she continues, turning but slightly from Wynn's side, "why do you keep talking 'bout these two joining us? I mean, we're here at the Teleport Gate already. We saved them from being buried. They can go now, right? I haven't heard either one of them say they want to follow us around. And they sure as Fram haven't explained to us why."

"If you remember way back, I came down to the Ghost to see Daphne. When it turns out she got herself nabbed by a bunch of witches, I just had to go along to rescue her."

"Wynn, came searching for Bralin. Belkie was sent by the Temple of Alemi. I mean, they both look like loose foot loner types. Why do they want to follow us like puppies and be on probation? I wanna hear. 'Cause either we trust 'em, or we don't. I mean, it ain't smart to keep a scorpion around when you don't got time to watch it. And it looks like we're gonna be plenty busy. We don't even have a place to live right now."

"So, what is it, you too? You're here now. You're free. No one's holding you. We don't expect anyone to pay us for rescuing them. You gonna leave? Or are you gonna tell us why you wanna go around with us?"

Angus (second Post)
Sunday November 27th, 2005 11:30:15 AM

Angus throws up his hands. "Ok, you win Xenia. These two will have nothing to do with the Crimson Shields unless they give us a real good reason. Mind you Xenia, we are way below what I consisder full strenght and a little recruitment is not a bad idea. I see no reason for you or me to be in the front lines in any future conflict. I like eight much better than six, but from this point one I will not make the case for them. These two must convince us and soon before we check on the orphans."

Angus turns to the newcomers. "Convince us of your worth or we must part company. We will vote on it before we step through the gate."

Angus waits for their response, but takes an impatient step towards the gate.

Ashlan Sinclair
Sunday November 27th, 2005 12:04:53 PM

Ashlan looks to Angus and then reaches up rubbing his chin slowly as he glances to the others and then finally shrugs deciding why not inless the fiery red head decides to try a scewer him, "Well, if I follow you I have chance of making some money do I not? Rather you all work for money or not meaning. An from the looks of things I do not think making some money would hurt any of you. "

Ashlan steps foreward and holds out his hand to Angus, "As long as my money making attitude doesn't cause problems and we can keep who I look to for some guidance to ourselves. I won't mention Jancassis or show the symbol and all. Ashlan looks to Angus and then to mainly the ones who argued about how he is, "Also one small other thing. There is no money in letting people die when on a job or just out and about. If we get into the thick of it I will watch your back and I hope I will get the same. I'm not a loose sword but I refuse to risk my life in defense of someone if I know they won't do the same, hence why I never joined a group in the past and been a loner."

Ashlan thinks and smiles abit to himself, "Put simply I think if you wish us to trust and earn your trust then you should do the same since neither of us know each other. Not meaning to be harsh but just saying we atleast stay on common ground." Ashlan glances about and moves over towards anyone that just came from Plateau City and speaks to him, "Hello sir, I'm sorry for bothering you but I was hoping for some info. Recently in your city a man was murdered and the person who killed the person escaped. I was wondering how the family is doing since the murderer was brought in dead." Ashlan leans his head to the side alittle, curious and hoping the family is doing okay after the few weeks he had been gone.

Xenia (2nd Illegal)
Sunday November 27th, 2005 3:29:19 PM

Xenia slaps a palm to her forehead.

"Angus, I din say nothing about proving themselves. I asked why they wanted to hang around with us. Doesn't it sound even the least bit suspicious to you that Jancassius Boy here suddenly wants to become a Crimson Shield. I already said that we don't make money from it. Now look what he's saying. Either he doesn't listen so good or he's playing us."

"It smells. The whole deal smells. And you want to bring them in because we need a couple of sword arms? For what? We becoming mercenaries now? You see us going out and acting rear-guard action against the Crying Woods while the city folk pull out? I don't get your thinking here, Angus. Talk to me. I see the group losing itself. You're picking just anybody up off the street. Might as well have Specialty Johnson join the group. At least we know what she's like. I don't know what we're here for anymore. And I'll tell you, if it weren't for Wynn, I'd be gone. I got friends to look for."

She holds up the ring again.

"These Crimson Shields mean anything anymore?"

Angus (Third Post)
Sunday November 27th, 2005 4:47:42 PM

Angus listens to Ashlan and the looks to Xenia. "I am about to step through the gate and check on the orphans and Florin. That is what the Shields mean to me, protecting those weaker than us. Those that we have pledged to support."

Angus looks to Ashlan "We are out to support ourselves and those that we choose to lend our support to. If you can live with that then we will take you with us and see how you fit in. You have my initial vote of support."
