With the morning sun still well below the horizon, a dim light begins to creep over the landscape until it finds it's way into the prison block and the cell they occupy. Their shackles removed, the Swords of Light are ready for escape. Harvest has had her prayer's to Alemi answered and can feel the divine power she commands deep in her being. Bralin likewise has contemplated his orb and is prepared for the day. Any sits next to Lorth with his back against the wall. The lone bird that announced the dawn now sings more fervantly and is recognized as a thrush by Arminus. It is soon joined by other birds in the dawn chorus.
The still of the morning is shaken by an explosion, almost deafening, from outside the cell and is immediately replaced by the sounds of combat. A voice rings out, "Stay back from the doors" and then three more explosions rip through the guard room in quick succession. The cell door hurtles through the room and slams into the wall sending a shower of splinters across the cell. The sound blast sweeps across the cell and slams into the Swords of Light [Fort save vs DC 13 or stunned for 1 round and deafened for 2 rounds]. Spot vs DC 14 to see Highlight to display spoiler: {Drosera's face covered in dust and grime peering into the cell.}
Harvest (AC18, HP 34/34) d20+6=13 d20+12=15 Friday November 11th, 2005 1:03:57 PM "Dros ... " Harvest Moon begins after fighting her way up through the cacophony and confusion of the blast. She stops short of shouting the name of the elven sorceress, switching instead to, "You've come!"
"Solonn, please remain here. I will return for you in but moments." Placing her palms outward in a gesture of healing, she calls upon kind Alemi for speed. "I will return," she says once more before charging out the door to join Drosera.
"Our possessions are nearby," Harvest says to the elf, as she runs her eye over the room to assess the situation. "What is the situation outside this room?" she asks. "The ward outside this tower? The gate passage, and the drawbridge beyond? Do you think we have time to don armor?" She grins at the dust and smoke. "It seems that a stealthy escape may no longer be a possibility."

The door to their cell slams against the far wall, and Bralin strides through the smoke and noise without batting an eye. (Fort 26, Spot 12) Emerging from the cell without noticing the slight elf by the doorway, he looks about for their possessions.
"If our belongings are here, their magic nature will reveal them," he says without further explanation.
OoC: If the group's things are not plain view, cast Detect Magic and sweep the room to find them.
Any (20 AC, 20/20 HP) d20+2=15 d20+5=23 Friday November 11th, 2005 11:10:30 PM
Any quickly arises as the door dissolves from the explosion (fortitude 15). He looks to make sure all within the cell are all right. If not, he will aid them, then quickly exit into the antechamber. He looks for the keys to free the other prisoners in the cell block, and for a weapon to aid in their escape.
He quickly searches (search 23)for the armor and weapons that have been taken from them, hoping to find his instrument undamaged and among their other belongings. He checks the guards for weapons also, and retains whatever he finds among them, sharing with other party members, arming as many as possible.
Arminas d20+5=12 Friday November 11th, 2005 11:11:13 PM
Though awaiting the rescue, the explosion is too much for Arminas. He drops to his knees and his hands cover his ears.
DM Bob and Carla Sunday November 13th, 2005 11:50:16 PM
The elven maid smiles at Harvest Moon and the rest of the party. There is more colour in her pale face than when last the group were together. "Quickly! Quickly!" she calls and then disappears from the doorway.
As the Swords of Light exit the cell, they see the room in disarray. The charred remains of the two guards are crumbled on the floor, remnants of the blasted table strewn across the room. Prisoners exit their cells and make for the exit. A very tall, very thin young elf with shaggy blond hair and clothes of grey is emptying the contents of what appears to be a storage room, and handing out equipment as fast as he can. He is soon joined by a couple of the prisoners. The party is able to identify their gear as it is hastily pulled from the storage room, but there is no time and no room to don armor. Arminas, overwhelmed by the confusion and deafened by the explosion, remains in the cell, hands clasped over his ears.
Any doesn't find any weaponry on the remains. It was likely picked up by the first escapees who have already made it out of the prison tower. Those who remain inside, elves and half-elves by the look of them, collect what they can from those handing out gear and then make for the exit.
"There is no time!" calls Drosera, "we must get out before the guards can call reinforcements! Hurry!"
The sounds of combat carry from the ward outside the tower.
Andrath d20+5=23 Monday November 14th, 2005 12:44:36 AM
Andrath shakes off the effects of the blast, then hurries outside with the rest of the party. He makes his way over to the elves handing out the equipment, and quickly identifies his gear. He nods his thanks to the elves emptying out the storage room, and stuffs all his gear, including his armour, into his backpack. He does take a few seconds to belt his sword belt, along with the two swords and belt pouches, in place on his waist.
As he makes for the door, he calls out, "Stick together, everyone watch out for each other! We can't get separated!"
Harvest (AC18, HP 34/34) Monday November 14th, 2005 7:52:22 AM
"Wait!" Harvest Moon quickly slips the Periapt over her head. Her haversack is slung over one shoulder, and she pulls the gauntlets onto her hands as she makes her way back to the Cell. "Someone please take up the things of Arminas Calaelen."
Hurrying back into the cell, she takes the elven ranger by the arm, guiding him to the doorway.
"Solonn, please, come with us. Please. Hurry."
From the haversack, the small brown girl draws a wooden rod. She speaks a word and touches Lorth. The paladin is sheathed in protective armor.

Arminas (AC 14, HP 25/25) Monday November 14th, 2005 9:02:55 AM
Arminas is helped to his feet by Harvest. He shakes his head to clear his clouded mind, and finds that he is able to stand. The ringing in his ears though is unabated. Turning to Harvest, he attempts to thank her for her help. Arminas hears no sound as he attempts to speak.
Realizing that there is no time, he follows Harvest out of the cell. Looking around in the confusion, he attempts to locate his gear. If he sees it, he will try and gather it up.
Any (20/20 HP , 20 AC) Monday November 14th, 2005 9:55:22 AM
Any gathers up his gear, checking quickly over his Lute. Seeing that Harvest has Arminas on her arm-he being in no condition to carry his own gear- he also gathers up the gear of the ranger. He steps up next to them and slips Arminas' short sword and belt around his waist, then taking time to do so with his own weapons. Then he takes up a position behind Harvest and Arminas to guard their back and aid them if necessary.
Arminas - 2nd illegal post Monday November 14th, 2005 10:49:47 AM
Arminas is deafened, though no longer stunned. When he see's that Any has his gear he will quickly gather it up. If time, he will slip the mithril shirt on and strap on his sword. He throws his quiver over his back.
Bralin (AC13 HP 52/52) (Sub/Al) Monday November 14th, 2005 4:03:32 PM
Bralin sweeps up his gear in silence. After slipping a ring on his finger, an amulet over his head, and placing a dark rose colored stone spinning about his head, he hefts his axe in one hand.
The she-elf is right. In the heart of the enemy the only hope is in swift escape. Bralin leads the way out.

Grabbing their gear, the party spills out into the ward. The air still carries a bit of morning fog in the grey dawn. The sun is unable to penetrate the cloud cover. The Swords of Light hastily don their packs and weapons. There is no time to put on armor, though Harvest is able to surround Lorth with a tangible force of energy (OOC: See p. 123 table 7-7 PHB, donning armor, Lorth, +4 to AC from Mage Armor duration 1 hour).
It is pandemonium in the ward outside the prison tower. Clusters of combatants dot the area as prisoners and freedom fighters take on the castle guards. There is a particularly heavy concentration of bodies about the gate passage leading to the barbican, but most appear to be wearing the black and emerald of Parnoth's men. A small crowd of prisoners jostles to get through the narrow gate passage while a wild looking man with a painted face watches and waves them through. A great bear at his side rears up on his hind legs, and there is blood on his fore-paws and muzzle.
"Hurry! Hurry!" calls Drosera as she brushes past the group running west towards the gate passage. As she passes the tower at the midpoint of the ward there is a sound from the upper walls, then a cry from the elf. As she throws up both arms to cover her head, it is a shock to see where once there was a pale white hand with a silver cuff, there is now a small stump ending some four inches below the elbow. View of the she elf is blocked when four burly fighters exit the door of the middle tower, and face the party, effectively cutting the group off from the gate.
(OOC: Combat rounds, please post AC and HP. I will try to get a map out in the a.m. but in the p.m. for sure.)

Any slips his ring on, as he exits the tower, only to find guards blocking their escape route. He quickly draws his weapons, and settles his gear about his shoulders. Drosera did it, she had the courage to remove the cuff. His impression of her immediately changes. She is perhaps the most courageous person he has ever met.
Infused with magical armor, Arminas takes courage in the situation. The song of the bard seems to add additional confidence. Acting quickly, Arminas reaches into his magical Quiver of Ehlonna and pulls out a short composite bow. Now he is very glad that he carried a spare, since his favorite bow was snapped by the dragon spawn.
Sliding the string into place he pulls a white arrow with white fletching from his quiver and lets it fly at A4. The arrow flies true. Nocking a second white arrow, he lets it fly at A3. His aim is good today.
He then steps 5 feet into the space vacated by Harvest (F12)

Without hesitation the heroes fall on the guards. "Parnoth will have our eyes!" cries one of the men. "Recapture the elves. Kill the others if you have to, but capture the elves!" he screams. Before he can say another word, Lorth crashes into him, wounding him. Before the man can react, Bralin deals him a crushing blow that sends his soul fleeing to the shadowlands. (OOC: Lorth was able to don his gauntlets.)
Having cast a protective spell on Lorth, Harvest does the same for Arminus. The monk looks to the wall and spots the archers as they fire on someone who is closer to them than the Swords of Light. Bright flashes of magical energy fly up from the ground towards the archer (a6) closest to the north tower. The wood-elf picks out an archer on the wall, and sends an arrow in his direction. His aim is true and the man is unable to fight off the magic of the white fletched arrow. The archer on the tower (a4) is neutralized.
With the fighter (F2) dead, Andrath is able to slip along the wall and get in behind the furthest fighter (F1), while on the other side of the melee; Any raises his voice in song, lending courage to the deeds of his comrades.
The fighters take on the Swords of Light. F1 strikes out at the rogue, but misses, while F4 aims for Any, but his aim also goes wide. F3 strikes a cruel blow, wounding the unarmed dwarf. (Hit AC 18 for 8 dmg.)

"Solonn? Villemus Bralfah, please bring ... " The dark elf is gone. Lost? Run off?
"Arminas, Bralin, Anthos!" Harvest calls out, using only first names in the heat of the action. "Please watch Solonn."
Then Harvest Moon sprints across the courtyard, passing behind Andrath Silverhand. At the edge of the door to the North Tower, the little monk pauses. Listen for other guards. Eye the area within for further danger.

Parnoth's man (F3) raises a sword to strike the paladin, then suddenly he is gone as Bralin's axe cleaves him cleanly in two. Any draws blood as both sword and dagger do their damage. The fighter (F4) is weakened, and swings his blade clumsily missing the bard. This will surely seal his doom.
Arminas picks a far target. (OOC: at 130 ft. a3 is beyond normal range of a short bow (p. 114 PHB) therefore a -4 penalty on attack.) The first arrow clatters to the ground, short of its mark, but the second one sails over the battlements and the archer disappears from view, only to reappear a moment later (Will Save=16) to make an obscene gesture at the wood elf.
Harvest conjures magical armor upon the dark dwarf before checking out the north tower. Andrath runs up a flight of stairs to the first level and returns to report that all he found was an empty room with a table and some chairs. The rogue figures there might be an exit to the battlements along the walls linking the towers at 3 stories, and the top of the towers 2 stories further up. The stairway is narrow and would require those who climb it to go single file.
Drosera pelts across ward and finds a niche by the tower near the gate passage. The archers nearest the party turn their bows on the Swords of Light striking Harvest (Hit AC 26 for 1 dmg) and Lorth (Hit AC 20 for 5 dmg).
The escaped prisoners are making it through the gate passage, and the druid and his bear familiar disappear under its shadow. There is a surge in the volume of sound coming from beyond the gate, an explosion, and then an acrid cloud of smoke with a yellow underbelly billows up into the sky throwing the grey mass of the northwest tower into relief.

Bralin nods at Lorth's words. Seeing the paladin has the last fighter in hand, and recognizing he is likely the slowest member of their band, the dwarf heads for the gate.
"Follow," he urges the rest.
Bralin's legs churn as he lumbers ahead.
[Run - 80' move toward gate]
Harvest (AC18, HP 33/34) Thursday November 17th, 2005 9:50:36 AM
An arrow streaks from the battlements striking Harvest Moon full on. Fortunately, she is slimmer within her robes than the robes would make one think. The arrow passes out the back of her robe leaving nothing but a slight bleeding furrow in her side and two more holes in the worn material of her single garment.
Harvest looks up to the height of the walls, counting the archers. Surely they will be able to run to the far side and shoot down even after the group passes through the gate. Descending from the height of the wall would be little problem for her. And yet, should she charge up to the battlements she would be leaving the group without the support of the group's shared magic equipment.
Ducking back around the curve of the tower, Harvest Moon makes her decision. She touches the thin elf, Solonn with her wooden wand.
"Follow the Bralin Stoneminder, please," she instructs. "Follow the dwarf."

A black muzzle, lips curled back to reveal sharp teeth dominate a large brutish head with small black glittering eyes, and ears laid back in warning. A spiked collar encircles each thick neck. The war-dog closest to those in the niche by the gate lifts his nose to sniff the air, then lowers it, growling, as he takes a step towards the four. The second war-dog tenses as if ready to spring, his eyes fixed menacingly on the group by the north tower.

Harvest speeds out after them straight out into the open. In a clear spot, she stops, palms outward, wands gripped between her outstretched fingers.
"Hide in the edges and strike from there," she calls out. Then she begins chanting. A white mist rises up around her. A white mist rises that obscures all sight.
Harvest stands within the center of the mist and listens for movement, the pad of paws and the fall of feet.

Bralin rushes in against the wardog and delivers a massive wound to the creature. It yelps loudly as the axe sinks into it's haunch.
Lorth runs at full speed across the yard and directly between the two mastiffs to gain a flanking position with Bralin. The second dog spins on him as he rushes in and leaps at the paladin's throat. Powerful jaws close on Lorth's shoulder and neck and drag him to the ground.[AoO Hit AC=23, confirm critical with AC=16 for 9 HP dmg, Trip=15]. Unsatisfied with it's purchase, the mastiff releases it's hold and bites again [Hit AC=16 for 6 hp - OOC Lorth is now prone with the large dog pinning him with it's jaws]
The dog facing Bralin snarls and lunges at the dwarf, narrowly missing him [Hit AC=13].

The two archers above spot her and loose their arrows into the center of the cloud as it envelops the monk [Hit AC=15 & 23 for 4 HP - beat 50% miss chance]. The archers on the south wall move to the west and wait for an opening to loose their arrows.
Any and Andrath take cover along the north wall and move towards the gate. The rogue draws his bow in readiness.
Arm casts his spell and growls his message to the two mastiffs as they attempt to savage his friends. Trained since birth as attack dogs, they ignore the elf's commands and continue their attack, snarling and growling "Kill it! Grrr, Bites it!! Grrrr. Protect the master!! Grrr" . Freedom is not a concept the two mastiffs understand, only loyalty to their master who has provided for them since birth.

Cautiously, then, she changes position, moving five feet away through the mist.

Andrath steps out into the open and looses an arrow at the archer on the battlement. The brightly fletched arrow penetrates the man's leather armor and he topples to the ground below, hitting with a dull lifeless thud.[OOC AC of archers = 16]
Any races across the yard, narrowly skirting the fog cloud that envelops Harvest Moon, and arrives ready to battle the dog that stands over Lorth.
Harvest is able to use her wand and slips it into her belt where it will be readily available should she need it again. [OOC Yes, if it is tucked into her belt she can 'unsheath' it much like a dagger.] The monk shifts her position to throw off the archers above.
Arminus swings behind Bralin to come to Lorth's assistance, drawing a snap from the WD1's massive jaws, but the beast fails to find it's mark [Failed AoO]. Bralin swings just as the dog turns on the elf, causing the normally deadly dwarf to miss with his two-handed swing. The mastiff turns back on the dwarf, ducks below the axe, and delivers a crushing bite to Bralin's thigh [Hit AC=19 for 6 HP] and almost drags the dwarf to the ground. [Trip=20 vs Bralin's take 10=22].
Lorth manages to scramble out from beneath the mastiff that had him pinned. The animal lunges forward, but narrowly misses. [Hit AC=10; Lorth is -4 vs melee attacks as he is prone].
The remaining archers on the battlements loose their arrows into the yard. The arrows skip and clatter across the cobbles as they miss their mark.
Solonn manages to creep along the north wall, unnoticed by the archers until he stands next to Drosera. He helps her push an arrow through her jerkin before breaking off the fletching and pulling the remaining length of the shaft through and clear. He helps her staunches the blood with a scrap of cloth. Drosera manages to smile grimly as he assists her.
Through the fracas, Arm and Any can see that the escaping elves have overpowered most of their captors and are making hastily through the barbican towards the drawbridge.

Harvest Moon carefully makes her way out into the west barbican, followed closley by Any, blood seeping from his wounds. Any threat from the guards has been dealt with by the throng of escaping prisoners. Bodies litter the compound. The monk is able to make out the last of the fleeing prisoners of Parnoth as they flee towards the drawbridge to the northwest.
Lorth strikes at the last of the dogs and his blade cuts deeply into the beast's neck. It drops dead to the ground, allowing Solonn and Drosera to move out after Harvest and Any.
Andrath and Arminus trade volleys with the archers above. Andrath's arrow arcs through the sky and finds it's mark. A5 retreats behind cover without returning a shot. A shrill scream splits the air and Harvest Moon looks up to see the imposing figure of a large reptilian take position on the drawbridge. With a single swipe of its arm it sends a young female elf sprawling into the stone wall. Blood spills from her mouth and from the odd angle of her neck it is evident that she will run no further. Harvest and Any both recognize the distinctly powerful figure of the large parnothian that took charge in the glade where they were captured. Standing almost 9 feet in height with a powerful tail, the half-dragon commander of Parnoth's troops waves the party towards him with his free arm. His eyes glare fiercely at the Swords of Light and a serpentine grin spreads slowly across his face. In the crook of his left arm he cradles a bundle of what look to be javelins.

Lorth charges out towards the parnothian, in anticipation of joining battle. Harvest Moon once again envelops herself in a rising mist which soon fills the central portion of the barbican and reaches 20 feet into the air. Any's grease spell causes his foe only a moments consternation as he retains his hold on the javelins and throws first one and then another. The projectiles close at terrifying speed. The first sails over Lorth and clatters across the barbican sending a shower of sparks flying as it's sharpened point strikes the stones. The second javelin whistles in and strikes the paladin hard, piercing his thigh. [Hit AC=11 and 21 for 9 HP]
The parnothian snarls out a gutteral challenge "Come to me elven scum and I will show you how Parnoth rewards such contempt!"

She listens for Andrath Silverhand. Her memory says that he was to the rear. Too far. The brown girl stows one of the wands, returning it to her haversack. The same hand closes about a different wand, a wand for curing.

Any sees Drosera disappear before the mist totally obscures her (spot 23), and hopes that she is able to effect her escape. He takes his last red fletched arrow (+2)out of his quiver, and steps forward to find a target on the Draconian. He fires at his opponent (hit AC 23), but the arrow skips off of the creatures scaly shoulder without causing any damage. Perhaps arrows are not the way to defeat this beast. He retreats into the mist, taking a sideways step once in the fog to avoid being targeted by a javelin. He then quaffs a potion from his belt (CLW 8 HP), and slips on his mithril shirt and ring(AC to 24).
He thinks, 'Next attack must be direct, no matter the cost. Mayhap I can at least distract the beast from the others--Death is better than prison.'

The party close ranks hidden by the obscuring mist conjured by the monk. Bralin and Arminus quaff potions, while Harvest Moon switches wands. Andrath uses the opportunity to cover some ground and forms up beside the dwarf.
Appearing from the mists, Any distracts the Parnothian as it levels a javelin at the paladin. He looks up to see a spot against the sky. As it approaches, he recognizes the ranger's companion. Lorth steps back, and though he can not see Tobiasz in the mists, he hears a snort and then the impatient clop of hoof on cobblestone, and knows his mount is nearby.
The half-dragon blocking the party's escape tosses two more javelins in the direction of the party. The first one misses the paladin as he retreats into the mists, while the second one sails over the bard's shoulder shattering into splinters as it slams into the stone wall of the castle. The creature created from Parnoth's claw retreats a step.

A small frown creases Harvest Moon's brow as Bralin Stoneminder rushes past, his footfalls disappearing beyond what must surely be the bounds of the mist. There is wisdom in patience.
"Andrath Silverhand," she says into the mist, "I have just now stored the wand of which you are speaking. I am sorry. Events have moved beyond my ability to grant you the armor. Bralin Stoneminder's actions dictate out path now. Perhaps at a later time."
With that she draws a scroll from her haversack and moves quickly out of the mist. Anthos Westar is to the left. Harvest moves to the right. Taking up position next to the wall, Harvest waits her opportunity to step in and place the spell upon the dwarf.

Free of the mist, Harvest looks beyond the towering Claw of Parnoth to the area beyond. Would flight be an option? If some of the more frail members should find their way past, could the rest manage a measured retreat?
Harvest Moon surveys the terrain beyond for advantage. Most certainly, whoever remains behind must clear the drawbridge in their withdraw or risk being pushed over the side. Beyond that, however, how could the terrain be best used to their advantage?

Lorth is nudged gently from behind, and turning finds the grey warhorse. Tobiasz holds still while the paladin vaults onto his back. Meanwhile, Bralin, Any, and Arminus charge through the mist towards the half-dragon, nearly circling the creature as Harvest creeps closer, scroll in hand.
The Parnothian steps back from the onslaught, but before he can attack, he bows forward nearly stumbling. The javelins clatter to the ground. Drosera appears, clinging to the creature's back with her knees, her poor mutilated arm around it's neck, as with her other hand she drives a dagger into it's scaly back.
The drawbridge is 100 ft. long. Beyond it are the cobblestone streets of the Emerald City with its twists and turns and dark alleys.

The magic cast by Harvest Moon is a boon to all, and the parnothian feels the wrath of the Swords of Light as blows rain down on it's scaly hide.
The small monk weaves past the combatants and crouches over the fallen elf-maid. Though her body is mutilated and bleeding, her pale face is untouched save for a drop of splattered blood on her cheek. Her dark lashes rest on her cheek, and her lips are curved in a smile, as if she is dreaming of happy things. Harvest feels firm hands on her shoulders, and a calm voice speaks above the din of war, "Come, child" says Solonn gently. "It is too late. She walks now with the high-kindred who have gone before."
With might on his side, Bralin swings his axe potently and the dragon-kin hisses then roars in rage. The roar becomes a high pitched squeal of pain as the Sword of Jeradosta finds it's mark. Any strikes out with sword and dagger. Finding a vulnerable spot under the creature's arm, he cuts in deep. Arminus comes down hard on the creature, but the thick scales on its back protect it. None the less, the ranger's position distracts the half-dragon from the rogue on the opposite side.
A fierce and desperate light glows in the parnothian commander's eye as he realizes he can not survive another attack. Desperation adds power to his attack on his foes as he claws at Any (hit AC 31, for 8 pts dmg) and Lorth (Hit AC 27 for 12 dmg) snapping at Bralin (Hit AC 27 for 16 dmg) and once again sweeping at Andrath with his tail (hit AC 28 for 9 pts dmg.)

He has no strength to cast magic to aid the others with his song, yet he sings anyway, a grim durge that nonetheless gives him strength to strike again. The paladin raises his long sword high over his head and brings it crashing down on the parnothian. Foul blood splashes from the wound and Lorth can read death in its green eyes. Tobiasz rears up and the creature goes down under the war horses hooves. Strengthened by his rage Arminus slices down into its dark heart, while Bralin moves forward, beheading the creature with his war axe ensuring the party's freedom. Andrath holds his weapons at the ready should something else come at the party, while Any sings a lament.
Through a veil of tears Harvest Moon returns to aid her comrades with healing. The monk's tender heart is rent by the loss of Drosera as she tells Solonn to flee.
"We all must flee, and make haste! There will be reinforcements and Parnoth's wrath will be terrible!" The silver-haired elf in rumpled cloak leads the Swords of Light from the drawbridge down the street, turning quickly down an alley. Harvest refuses to leave without Drosera's corpse, and one of the stronger members of the party volunteer to carry the body of the slight elf-maid. After a period of time during which the various magics invoked diminish, Solonn knocks on a small door in the tall wall of a courtyard. It is opened by two males, one human, and one elf. The elf wears a silver cuff. "Quickly!" he whispers, "you must hide." The party and Solonn are led across the courtyard to a door set in the ground at an angle. The man and the elf draw the doors open and the party descends into a dark basement. The man draws the doors closed behind him, and turns to the party. "Leave the she-elf with me," he says, his voice thick with emotion, "I know the family. She must be buried with honour."
++++++++
The elf leads the party through the basement which seems to span the length of the great manor home above until he arrives at a wine cellar. There he opens a low cupboard and ducking down, beckons the party to follow. Closing the door behind, he then grabs a torch from the wall and leads the party through a long twisting tunnel. He keeps a fast loping pace, and the party must trot to keep up. Along the way, he explains that the family to whom he 'belongs' is sympathetic to the elves and he willingly wears the symbol of their family in order to help any elves who manage to escape Parnoth's grasp, flee the Emerald City.
+++++++
The end of the tunnel is reached. Another low door is opened, and the party must duck to pass through. The light of mid-day streams through the cracks between wooden planks shuttering windows in a small stone barn at the edge of a field about a half mile from the southernmost edges of the Culverwood. "Stay here until the night," the blonde elf cautions, "then make for the forest depths under cover of darkness." The elf opens the door of what looks like a tool cabinet, then turns to the party, "wherever you go, tell those who will listen of the injustice of Parnoth's decree. Pressure must be brought to bear on him by the higher races. The decree must be repealed!" Then, with a click the door is closed and the elf is gone.
Lorth Tuesday December 6th, 2005 7:35:15 AM
Lorth volunteers to carry Drosera. He lays her body over Tobiasz's back and leads his horse by foot until they reach the courtyard. He then dismisses Tobiasz and carries the elf's body in his arms, into the cellar, handing her over to the elf when asked. He then follows along through the tunnels.

Silent most of the way, Harvest walks beside Lorth, who carries Drosera's body. Her silence is punctuated by short sprints to each of her companions, and the single word used to active the healing wand.
In the basement of the unknown house, before her body is taken away, Harvest takes up Drosera's lone remaining hand. It is cold and lacking the softness and warmth that it had in life.
"One last boon, please, Gargul," the brown girl says, wiping the tiny drop of blood from Drosera's face. "Please reunite her with her family. She was so brave. And she deserves the fortunes of the Wold. If not in life, then in death."
Stilling her lower lip, the small brown monk pulls away to follow up the tunnel to freedom.

Any Tuesday December 6th, 2005 9:58:42 AM
Thanks to the healing touch administered by Harvest, Any has been restored to full strength, but his heart is heavy at the price that has been paid for his freedom. As they walk, he composes a song, "Her light shone among us, though foe at first, her love of her people she felt. She gave all she had, her hand and her life, and lay by her enemy, her death harshly dealt. We shall not forget her, she showed us the way. We shall surely avenge her, there will come a day. The West wind will guide her, the south will provide, the North wind beside her, the East wind inside."
Any shakes his head, "It is not enough, but words escape me, something not often said of Anthos Westar."
Arminas (AC 22, HP 22/25) Tuesday December 6th, 2005 10:12:36 AM
Together, working together they can do much. Perhaps being a loner will not accomplish the healing of the Wold that Arminas wishes for. He looks at the dead parnothian and then to his companions. Turning around slowly, he sees the truth of what he had heard, Drosera is dead.
Going to her, he hopes to see some trace of life, but there is none.
Then, it is time to flee. Arminas runs silently along, his words taken by grief. When Harvest heals him with the wand, he is awoken from his stupor.
"Thank you Harvest. We will not allow Drosera to die in vain."
Reaching the barn, Arminas goes through his gear, checking to see that all is there. He puts on his mithril shirt and wraps is elven cloak around his shoulders. He takes care of his short bow, cleaning it and checking his arrows.
"Soon we will be in the safety of the Culverwood."
Bralin (HP 42/52) 2d8(4+8)+3=15 Tuesday December 6th, 2005 11:41:57 AM
With the death of the Parthonian, Bralin ceases humming. He looks about. The elf woman is dead. The dwarf registers the fact without comment. This is still a time of action.
As quickly as he can, Bralin trots with his companions through streets, courtyards, and tunnels. He gives a quick nod of thanks to Harvest and her healing wand, and then drops back to the rear of the fleeing group, guarding their backs.
The reactions of his comrades to Drosera's death puzzles him. She was a brave warrior, who died well. In truth, she followed Arminas' pledge to 'live free or die' better than the elf ranger did. Also, the group did but know the woman mere days. And yet, by the displays of grief one would accept she was a lifetime friend.
Bralin cannot grieve Drosera. Her loss was unfortunate, but not personal. To his comrades it was. All the more reason to hang back in the rear.
The dwarf immediately dons his armor as soon as the opportunity presents itself. He then casts a healing spell upon himself. Finally prepared for the first time in days, Bralin awaits Andrath's instructions. [CMW over Magic Stone - heal 15 hp]
DM Bob & Carla Tuesday December 6th, 2005 11:30:19 PM
"Peace and Love to you, my brother," says the strange grey elf as he approaches each of the members of the Swords of Light in turn. His elbows bent, hands at his shoulders, palms facing out his fathomless grey eyes look into blue, green, black, and brown with the same depth of feeling. The last wounds magically seal themselves and positive energy flows through all.
Gear is checked. Armor and arms donned. Bralin and Arminus share the same relief when the comforting heaviness of their protective gear weighs upon their shoulders.
The sensitive bard, his heart heavy, composes a sweet lament for the dead elf-maid.
Lorth stoically tends to his gear, all the while reliving the battle with the parnothian in his head while the rogue is strangely silent.
The last to stand before Solonn is the little brown monk. "Peace and Love to you, little sister," says the ageless Walker and Harvest Moon feels her health restored. "You are a boon to your companions little one, and yet you did not inflict harm on any creature, not even..." The elf lets his voice trail off and his eyes cloud for a moment. Soon their grey depths peer back at the monk, and he continues, "your personal qualities are rare in one so young. Compassion, diplomacy, pacifism, and an unquenchable desire to help others, but," the Walker places a hand on Harvest's thin chest over her heart, "you try to rule this," he moves his hand and grasps her forehead, "with this, and yet" he releases his grip, and rests a finger over her heart, "all is not calm here." Solonn's visage belies the seriousness of his message, as a gentle smile spreads across his face, "walk with me, little sister,"* he invites, "the Wold is filled with violence, hatred, and death, but we must not forget there is always the promise of hope!"

Lorth Wednesday December 7th, 2005 7:23:52 AM
Lorth thanks Harvest and Solonn for their tending of his wounds. He dons his armor checking to make sure it is in perfect condition. Then he goes about cleaning his sword and readying the rest of his equipment. His mind wanders to the battle of the day, and Lorth reminds himself to save a little bit of money to buy Tobiasz a saddle, next time they are in a town.
Harvest Wednesday December 7th, 2005 11:42:40 AM
Harvest Moon blinks under the kindly gaze of the frail gray elf. Within the small brown girl a tempest rages. Sadness and anger at the profound injustice of the Wold. The winds of emotion tear at her, whipping her about, turning her so many ways that she stands without word, stands without will, stands without direction.
Not since the death of her mother has she felt so lost and empty. But at that time, she had Pasix Mixmindor to place her on the road, to send her out alone into the Wold. Though puzzling and enigmatic as a remedy, it had placed a focus upon her life. The act of caring for herself and the journey along the road had been enough. But now, all of the doubts return, all of the questions stirred by the crushing injustice of life. Why must there be death? Why do the cruel reign, and the kind languish in feeble-minded insanity? Why? If Good is the way of the Wold, then why?
Harvest Moon walks dumb-struck along beside Solonn. Her silence is filled by the words he speaks. And from the silence, a new way opens before her. Like the road upon which they walk, it carries her. It suggests both the places been as well as those yet to be visited. And before their paths diverge, Harvest Moon speaks again.
"I will try." Are the words she speaks. Those three words alone, one step, but a step back on the path. The journey continues as she hurries off, back to her companions.
Bralin Wednesday December 7th, 2005 11:43:26 AM
Again, Bralin accepts the healing hand of the elf with a nod of thanks.
Witnessing the exchange between Solonn and Harvest, it dawns on the dwarf that the monk has never drawn blood. Remarkable. All the more so that Solonn recognized that fact in a day, while he never noticed.
The dwarf files this new information away, without judgement. Each stone has its purpose. Harvest has hers, and Bralin has already seen she carries herself with purpose and honor. Likewise, he has no intention of modifying his demeanor either.
Armed, armored, and healed, he waits patiently for direction from the group's leader.
Any Wednesday December 7th, 2005 11:51:30 AM
Any thanks Solon for his aid, and consoles with all over the loss of a new friend. He checks over all his gear, disturbed at the state of his clothes. He cleans and hones his weapons as needed, and turns his attention to his pack, making sure all is in place and secure. Finally he removes his Lute from his back. He carefully checks it for damage, and, using some linseed oil from his pack, he treats the wood, rubbing untill the wood shines like glass. He asks,
"Do you have any water? I feel the need to clean myself and my clothes. I'm sure I shared my bed in that place with more than my cell mates here."
If given water, he will bathe and wash his clothes, then try to make what repairs to his outfit that he can. Time and again he looks at his clothes as he works, and shakes his head.
Arminas Wednesday December 7th, 2005 12:06:46 PM
Arminas looks out of the cracks in the door at the forest beyond. The walls seem to crush his soul, yet escape from the prison has brought him hope. Finally, he turns and addresses Any.
"I was angered when after I fell in battle that you brought me back, with life as a slave my future. I see now that it was not my fate, and thank you for my life."
He goes back to watching outside, waiting for the night to come. Looking up, he hopes to get a sight of Ewan, his eagle friend. He saw Ewan killed in battle, yet before Arminas was struck down he thought he saw him rise. Any has mentioned that he saw him while on the drawbridge. Hope surges, but there is doubt also. Arminas yearns to see his friend again in life.
Andrath (25/37 hp) Wednesday December 7th, 2005 10:11:41 PM
Andrath follows along with the rest of the party to their overnight hideout. He is saddened by the loss of the lady elf, but she fought well and bravely, and gave her life so that she could help put an end to the oppression. He is pleased that she will be returned to her family.
Like the rest of the party, he takes some time to check through his gear, ensuring that everything is safe and sound. He pulls out some of his dried food and shares it with his rat familiar, then offers it around the group.
"Thank you once again Harvest, for the healing," he says to the little monk, "I am sure you will make the right choice."
"So, we rest until it is completely dark, then those of us with the ability to see at night will lead the rest into the forest, and we will find a safe place to spend the rest of the night. Check your gear and be ready to move in a few hours, all right?"
