Oshirr House

DM Kelly
Monday November 28th, 2005 9:07:07 AM

Domi seems pleased that they so easily repelled the kobolds. In answer to Peerimus' question, he says:

"The kobolds are mostly seen with groups of orcs and goblins. I agree, that small groups are not a problem. This group was very small. Yes, I hope that they are only in the hundreds. Come, we must hurry and tell Alemi what we have learned."

Domi then tells his students to move along at a slow jog. When someone falls behind, Domi calls for a short rest, and then continues the fast pace.

After about an hour and some sweating as the day warms up (it is late morning), you arrive at the Oshirr House. It has surrounding barracks type buildings, a wall around the entire compound, and a beautiful simple white cottage in the center. A couple of students are pruning the flowers in the yard as you approach.

They stand respectfully as Domi and his guests pass by.

Approaching the porch and the door, two students move to guard the door.

"Well done," Domi says. "Please knock on the door please and let the master know I am here with important guests."

One of the students knocks on the door and then whispers through it.

Shortly, the door opens of its own accord and Alemi rises from a wartable, now covered with a sheet, to greet his visitors.

He speaks with a vibrant voice and is a leader, by demeanor rather than an overbearing manner.

"Come in strangers. I would hear your tale!

"Cold drinks and wet towels please," he says to the students at the door.

He waves his hand and lowers the temperature in the house by about 20 degrees instantly. He motions to a set of couches and chairs to the side arranged in a square for conversation.

"Come sit!"

Airin and Erwen
Monday November 28th, 2005 9:35:32 AM

Airin looks at Domi and his students and then gazes mouth wide open at the grandeur of this place and of course at te sight of Alemi himself!

"I...euh... I..." and then she whispers to one of Domi's students "Can I bring along Erwen my eagle?"

Then she huddles close to Kendry and carefully slides her hand in his...

Bralin
Monday November 28th, 2005 10:50:28 AM

Bralin enters at Alemi's bidding. Normally of few words, the dwarf sees no reason to say anything now. The halflings are always eager to speak, and he still needs time to wrap his mind around the concept of the Gods as normal people.

Peerimus
Monday November 28th, 2005 10:42:18 PM

Peerimus nods to Alemi and waits for Kendry or one of the others to tell the tale.

Walking over to a small chair, Podo sits and awaits Kendry's retelling of the recent events.

Tishe' (AC 20 HP49/56) and Snout (AC 21 HP28/32)
Tuesday November 29th, 2005 1:29:46 AM

"Look at these maps we have found!", she tells the others. The map of Oshirr House is less interesting than the map of the area; the map that shows "Maab's Palace and the Fey King! I think we are close to our goal for information, my packmates. Look, here are all the players, and all the pieces are on the board."

The brown-haired mystic slows her pace as they approach the well-kept walls. Oshirr House! The beginning of all legends! Looking wonderingly around, she tries to take everything in, kinowing she'll never be able to remember it all.

And then there is Alemi. Where she could get her mind around the idea that Domi was being human in the forest, the idea that Alemi is only human while inside Oshirr House somehow escapes her. The curious mage is quiet, reverent, only her brown eyes alive with an adoring intelligence...

And Snout paces beside her.

Kendry  d20+6=22
Tuesday November 29th, 2005 1:38:02 AM

Kendry happily accepts Airin's hand as they are welcomed into this place of lore. "Thank you, sir," Kendry replies to the invitation, as he helps his love take a seat, and he next to her. As he waits for all to find a place, Kendry remarks, "The sudden coolness provides welcome relief after a brisk jog in the morning heat." He accepts a proffered towel, and dabs the sweat from forehead and neck, enjoying the refreshment, and then the drink.

During this time of settling in, Kendry looks about to see if he can spot anything written anywhere in a script similar to that used along the edges of the tapestry (spot 22), or in High Woldian. Or, for that matter, in any script whatsoever. Maps may be covered, but in a planning room, there may be items deemed of no strategic concern to leave in the open. Even a bulletin board, if such they have.

"We hear of the war, Lord Alemi," Kendry begins. "You've asked for our tale, which we are glad to tell, as much as we may. It has been an interesting journey. Good Domi and his talented students were to us a welcome sight, if unexpected. We ran into a pack of kobolds along the way, and they with a map of this very building. If I might ask, before we launch too deep into things - do you find yourselves opposed by Gargul, or Gargulus? Or Eberyon? And, if such be the case, even before you answer, then, we may be able to offer some assistance, as well as to request some in return."

=========
[OOC Addendum: Tishe' & Kendry posted almost simultaneously (at least Tishe''s post was not up as I wrote Kendry's). I know we have a map of Oshirr House - but does it include the placement of the Fey King and of Maab? That is not clear to me from DM Kelly's post. Does Tishe' know something the rest of us don't, or do I need to read better? -Kim]

[Addendum the second: DM Kelly just emailed me the map (11-29-2005) - so now I know what you are talking about! -Kim]

Airin and Erwen
Tuesday November 29th, 2005 12:09:37 PM

Entering the coolness of the Oshir House with the company of her friends and the comfort of Kendry she smiles at all that are present.

But trouble's brewing so time to plan ahead.

Nezamil
Tuesday November 29th, 2005 2:07:02 PM

The dwarf calmly looks about Alemi's war room acting as this was supposed to happen and gives a short bow of respect to Alemi

Taking a cue from Kendry's use of title " an honor to meet you lord Alemi " as he accepts a refreshing cool drink and wipes his face with a cool wet towel and takes a seat in front as he listens to the halfling talk

" our good friend Kendry is right "nods Nezamil at the halfling " we can offer assistance and share infomation" adds the Cleric of Domi

DM Kelly
Tuesday November 29th, 2005 3:56:43 PM

Domi turns to Airin and replies:

"Of course your eagle friend is welcome. All animals are part of the noble races. Only monsters are forbidden."

When Kendry explains that they met up with Domi and his students, Alemi just nods. Talk of the kobolds also seems routine, yet when word of a map of Oshirr House in the hands of the kobolds comes up, he seems very concerned.

"They have a map of the building? There must be an accomplice or a spy. Likely though, none of my friends would spy upon our own house. You speak of Gargul and Eberyon, how do you know them? They have been friends, though we seem to find ourselves at odds these days."

Domi shares his account of encountering the group in the cavern, having finished a battle with an unknown and unseen foe.

Then Alemi looks hard at the group.

"Domi's account of your meeting and your strange dress and weapons have me concerned. Who are you?"

Kendry
Tuesday November 29th, 2005 11:12:14 PM

"Yes, who has the map? Perhaps we had better lay it on the table here," Kendry suggests. "We have reason to believe that, at this time, Eberyon has given something to Gargul, by which the latter is making monsters."

As Kendry talks, he removes parchment and pen from his haversack, and writes something in High Woldian in the middle of the page, holding it in such a way that likely only Airin can see what he writes.

"Who are we? As is evident, we are adventurers - men, women, hobbits, dwarfs, humans, and animal friends. Our names are," and now Kendry indicates each one in turn, placing the parchment face down for the moment, "Airin, and her sharp-eyed friend Erwin, Podo, Peerimus and his Shaylin, Nezamil, Tishe' and her scaley friend Snout, Wilfire, Gilan and his Ciaran. My name is Kendry. Our purpose? We are on a mission to help you, as much as we are able, and to help our people, and the Wold at large. And even to help Gargul, although not in his present course, and in a manner that he does not now suspect, I'd wager."

He finishes writing, folds the paper in half, and hands it to Alemi. "This is for your eyes only, sir, unless you deem it wise to show it to others." On the parchment are the words:
We are from another time, as best as we can tell. A time yet to come. Discretion and circumspection may be the order of the day. We have an artifact to show you. I do not know whether the students should see it, but that is for you to determine.
He waits for Alemi to read what he wrote.

The bard is concerned about the students present. As others speak, he looks in the faces of as many of the students as he can, other than the ones they met at the cave, to see if any look at all familiar.

Kendry waits to see whether Alemi chooses to have both students and masters present for the rest of the presentation, or masters only, before proceeding.

The thought crosses his mind, 'Might some of us somewhere down the road find ourselves in a similar situation? How do gods arise and fall?'

The plain-faced woman shyly nods and bows as Kendry introduces her to Alemi. The cool room is refreshing, and it allows her to catch her breath after the long run. And to look after Snout. The reptile isn't what you would call a long-distance runner!

"If there is a beater who is giving your picks to the monsters, Lord Alemi, perhaps our mission should be known to few. You are said to be very wise, and by our dress and manner you may guess where we are from."

Peerimus and Shaylin
Wednesday November 30th, 2005 8:42:59 AM

Peerimus inclines his painted face towards Alemi at Kendry's introduction, silently thankful the little bard knows what to say and what not to. I wonder if we are far back enough where Ebyron is still awake and if I could get to Maab's and discuss things with her? I wonder if Alemi has any idea what Tishe is talking about. She's a wonderfully curious and pleasant woman, but her speech, very odd.

Peerimus wonders a bit on how Alemi classifies 'Monsters' while some are surely obvious others are less so, but it is not really a point that need be brought up. The kobolds and any allies they have will surely fall into the former obvious class.

Shaylin hops up to the humans shoulders and settles back down. Being faster than any durin the walk, the leopard was hardly pressed, but cats need naps she thinks and it just got so cold, perhaps a nice sunbeam...Soon she drifts off into a contented deep purr.

The dwarf nods respectfully to Alemi in response to kendry's introduction and calmly observes the reactions in the war room " and as Kendry has mentioned we are here to help " adds Nezamil

" this is gonna git intresting muses the Cleric of Domi as he peeks at Domi's take on the happenings

DM Kelly
Wednesday November 30th, 2005 4:21:22 PM

Alemi listens to Kendry and nods as each of the group is introduced.

"Yes, I can see that you are equipped for an adventure. It is nice to know your names, but truthfully that is not what I meant by my question."

Kendry then passes a note, which Alemi quickly reads. Looking up, he says in a firm tone:

"Cease! Careful friend."

He then empties the room asking even Domi to leave. When all have left, he weaves a spell that causes all sound from outside the room to vanish.

"No one can hear us speak, as well we cannot hear those outside the room. We should speak quickly, for I cannot afford to be cut-off from my captains in this time of war for long. I have a few questions for each of you. If you don't mind, I have a method to determine who speaks truthfully. I mean no offense."

He then casts 'Know alignment' and 'Truth' spells.

He then asks each of you the following questions, waiting for a response before turning to the next person.

"You say you are here from the future, are you here to accomplish something specific?"

"Is it important?"

"Is your heart and purpose good?"

Kendry
Wednesday November 30th, 2005 7:10:40 PM

Kendry answers, directly. "Yes, sir, we come here to accomplish something specific. It is of Wold-shaking importance. I aim for purity of heart, Lord Alemi, though I am less than perfect. Our purpose in this matter is good, and opposed to evil and to the destructive powers of chaos. At least, that is how I see it, sir."

He takes out the tapestry, and lays it over the kobolds' map. "This, in part, helps explain our purpose." He trusts that Alemi will have no trouble discerning the meaning of the writing.

Kendry waits to see how each of his friends and companions chooses to answer Alemi's queries.

Podo Danderfluff Pipewood
Wednesday November 30th, 2005 8:42:43 PM

Podo answers as directly as possible for a simple halfling. "Lord Alemi, Yes, we come here to accomplish something specific. It is of Wold-shaking importance. I follow the good path of lawfulness, though I can atest to its difficulty.

My cousin Kendry here often speaks with flowery words, but I am but a simple monk. My purpose is to walk with my brothers and to help them on this most important matter. The matter involves opposing evil & the destructive natures of chaos, but the details are still unraveling."

With Podo's answer, Podo nods to Kendry and takes his place in a supportive manner.

Peerimus
Wednesday November 30th, 2005 11:35:09 PM

Peerimus attempts to return Alemi's steady gaze, but finds far more power in the other set. With a short and brief nod of his head, Peerimus takes a breath as if formulating what to say quickly. "I do not know how specific our task is, it does seem to gather round a single point thus far, but yes it is possibly the most important quest undertaken in our age. As to my heart and purpose being good." Peerimus pauses slightly and then inclines his head once again, "Most assuredly."

Peerimus is Chaotic Good

Gilan and Ciaran
Thursday December 1st, 2005 5:14:57 AM

Gilan looks to Alemi and shakes his head in answer. "I would have to agree with the rest...our quest is the most important of our time." He squints his eyes a little as he thinks and then nods his head. "I follow the dictates of Mother Wold...she seeks balance in all things...but I do strive for the greater good of all." He looks to Ciaran and gives a slight smile...the closest to a friendly type smile you have seen. "We all seek information on this Fae King...what his true agenda is...can he be set back on the right path...what is his true link with nature?" He blushes slightly as he stats the last. "Well the last maybe more my curiousity." He simply shrugs if anyone looks at him.

Ciaran is laying curled up and snoozing after his long run. He does not seem to interested in things right now, just catching up on a little sleep to be ready for the things ahead.

Gilan is chaotic good.

Tishe' (AC 16 HP49/56) and Snout (AC 17 HP28/32)
Thursday December 1st, 2005 7:01:01 AM

"From our time, we know well the names of Alemi, Domi, Marteus, and Gargul. All of us on this quest more recently in our time have encountered Maab and Ebyron in one manner or another." Tishe' plays with her long brown hair, her equally brown eyes open unblinking to Alemi. "It is as my brother-in-nature says, we seek information on the Fae King...what his true agenda is... and can he return to a selfless path?"

Snout relaxes in the presense of Alemi, feeling nothing bad can happen here.

(Tishe' is Neutral Good)

Airin and Erwen
Thursday December 1st, 2005 10:24:52 AM

Airin listens as Alemi asks her questions.

"Indeed master Alemi, we were asked to travel through time to unravel mysteries from out time, and hopefully to change the course of our future through the past."

Then the second question.

"Importance goes without saying. No one travels lightly to the past!"

And last but not least.

"Who am I to say my heart is pure? The mirrors made me realise things about myself. I value my honor and take pride in my caring heart. Yes... if one can say so, my heart is pure and my purposes are as honest as could be."

Nezamil
Thursday December 1st, 2005 1:42:13 PM

Nezamil listens to the others and awaits his turn to answer Alemi and stands up to answer Alemi

" accomplish something specific ? well i feel we are more on a quest for answers to help us come to understand what is happening and how it affects the balance of powers in the wold" replies the dwarf

" is it important ? yes very much so with what path the wold will take towards its future "

" and yes my heart and purpose is good.....i've spent most of my life trying to help others and help them stand up for themselves to learn to live with each other to work out there diffrences to make the wold a better and more peaceful place .....the answers we find on this quest i hope will lead us to find a solution to help find a balance the wold."

Nezamil takes his seat again.

DM Kelly
Thursday December 1st, 2005 4:53:40 PM

"I am going to have to ask you that you do not speak of your mission here, but go about it freely. I will give you a token of my respect which should allow you to ask questions and move around the countryside without too much of a problem."

He gives each of you a golden medallion with a circle, enclosing 3 overlapping circles.

http://www.woldiangames.com/high_woldian/images/alemi.gif

"Again, I ask you not to disturb the timeline more than you have to in accomplishing your mission."

"Now, you may depart and find your own way or stay with us and be our guests as well as lending us a hand in our battle for survival."

"Tonight is the first full moon. From what you have told me, I now know that we will be attacked mercilessly tonight for as long as they can sustain the attack. If you would stay, then I must ask for your help."

Gilan and Ciaran
Thursday December 1st, 2005 8:11:39 PM

Gilan shrugs his shoulders and stretches as he is given this holy symbol by Alemi. He places it lightly around his neck and then slips it under his armor. "Would it be possible to help out in this fight?" He looks to the others and then frowns lightly. "Would that change the timeline?" He would very much like to help in the coming battle but will not endanger the future with his wants.

Ciaran sleeps on blissfully as he dreams of chasing deer in the grasses of home. He whines and kicks in his sleep as he misses a potential kill in his sleep.

Nezamil
Thursday December 1st, 2005 8:20:11 PM

Nezamil accepts Alemi's gift of the golden medallion " thank you lord Alemi" and hangs it around his neck alongside his Domi's anvil holy symbol.

" I for one would be honored to stand with you and defend against this attack " adds the dwarf to lord Alemi.

Bralin
Thursday December 1st, 2005 9:00:52 PM

Bralin takes the medallion with a nod.
"I would stay," he replies.

In answer to Gilan, he says, "Time, like stone, will repair itself. Surely it would require much power to damage it."

Kendry
Friday December 2nd, 2005 4:12:26 AM

The hobbit bard accepts the medallion with a grateful nod.

"Should we visit another place first, then return before the evening falls to assist in defense?" Then Kendry seems to abandon his initial idea of going elsewhere, and to focus on how to prepare for the battle for the evening. "No, sorry - perhaps we can better defend if we help set up your perimeter defenses - do you have pits? Fires? Traps? If hordes are coming, then what means do we have to deal with them en masse? What are our assets? Have we barrels of burnable oil? Good Domi has seen a small sample of our abilities. It would be a signal honor to fight by your side, sir. Is there any among us who has the power to summon an earth elemental? I'm thinking that if one were to dig a tunnel just below the surface of the ground, we fill it with flammable material, then, as enough of the enemy cross the ground, they'll break through the earth, we can light it on fire, and take out many that way. Sharpened sticks below, just as the kobolds tried with us?

"Lord, Alemi, if we are to assist you in defense of this hallowed house, how would you like us to help?"

He also asks at some point, "If it's not too awkward to address - how are Ebryon and the Lady Maab getting on these days?"

Peerimus and Shaylin
Friday December 2nd, 2005 9:07:56 AM

The leopard naps on and Peerimus accepts the token with a nod and secures it within his belt pouch. The druid seems almost ready to say something when Kendry begins. A whimsical smile crosses his face as the bard continues, he is a bard after all

At Kendry's conclusion, Peerimus waits for Alemi's response and then adds to his general group, "It would be a good idea to move about the grounds and familiarize ourselves with our defensive layout."

Tishe' (AC 16 HP49/56) and Snout (AC 17 HP28/32)
Friday December 2nd, 2005 10:09:48 PM

Tishe' thinks hard about how to minimize thier disturbance in time. "How do we know that we are completely new in this time? It could be we have taken the place of others who would have done the same actions. Or Bralin could be correct in that anything we do in the past will have a reason for happening and the future will be unchanged."

"I think we can only follow our clues and concience. Perhaps the battle itself will tell us more that we need to know."

Not being a tactician, the brown-haired girl lets others talk most of the time, but... "Full moon? Could there be were-beasts in the enemies' camp?"

Airin and Erwen
Saturday December 3rd, 2005 1:51:19 PM

The thought of the uncoming battle weighs heavy on Airin's heart and she seeks comfort in Kendry's arms as if this would be their last evening together.

"Would there be time to pray on our mother nature to renew out strengths?" she asks the group.

"Erwen will rest now and prepare to scout for us at the fall of night. Whatever beast is out there will be spotted by her and she will report back to us."

DM Kelly
Saturday December 3rd, 2005 6:12:31 PM

"Then you have passed my final test. You are truly heroes of the future and I see that some of my teachings have survived which is good news to my heart.

"May the Creator guide your hand this night. You are guests and thus will stay with me here in this house. I suggest you eat for battle, and then rest. Based upon past experience, the attack should come about midnight. We have 12 hours to rest and prepare.

"I judge you to be capable. Therefore, I give you defense of the northern wall of the Oshirr House. I and several of the other teachers will defend the East and South walls. The Students led by Professor Domi will man the west wall. When they can spare it, the town of Winter will send reinforcements after their attacks are repelled. So may the elves to the east. If reinforcements come, they will be assigned to the wall that needs them most if they can break through the attacking lines. If not, then they will try to pull as many off the rear of the attacking foes as they can on the side of my choosing. We communicate with semaphore flags like on ships with them.

"You have a supply of over 2000 arrows in quivers up on the ramparts. You shouldn't even come close to running out.

"There are dozens of extra swords, etc. in case they are needed.

"Pole arms are there to push off ladders. Behind the wall are catapults which I will assign students to man as long as they are useful and rocks remain. They are not crack shots with it so please issue the order for them to go to their stations if there is nothing to hit in their range which is 100' to 500'. You have 5 of them."

Bralin
Sunday December 4th, 2005 11:00:34 AM

The dwarf considers. A midnight attack will preclude any spell preparation. He has only one other question.

"Does the foe possess the capability to fly? Mayhap to tunnel?" he asks the god-to-be.

Kendry
Monday December 5th, 2005 12:14:33 AM

Kendry comforts Airin, letting her pull close to his side, his hand brushing back her hair. "Sweetcakes, we didn't come all this way to lose one another. We'll make it through the night - and have tea for breakfast."

He considers her plan for Erwen. "Perhaps he can fly high - higher than arrows reach - just before sunset, and get a feel for the strength of those who come."

Alemi speaks, then Bralin offers his apt questions. The halfling is pleased to have such a competent group of people on this quest. He idly wonders what role, if any, Snout might play in the defense of the Oshirr House. His teeth certainly are fearsome.

"Lord Alemi - do you know of ways our clerics and wizards might be able to rearrange their spells memorized between now and midnight?" Even if he has not yet been named a god, surely he has powers and great wisdom, reasons Kendry. He wonders whether, if they were to begin to sleep within the next hour, and slept for eight hours, that they might be able to regain, or at least re-choose their spells. After all, they did not arrive here the same day they left their own time. Hundreds of thousands of days divide them. Perhaps spells cast in their battle with the red cloaks might be regained? Well, something to try, maybe.

"Also - if you could lay out before us - since you know this area far better than we - recommended strategies and tactics - you must have your own maps - that may help us perform better in our mutual defense.

"And - what healing resources have we here? And how well protected might we be against incoming missiles, while at the same time we let loose missiles against our foes?"

Kendry requests that someone who knows the area take the group assigned to the northern wall to scope out the area for at least an hour or so, "Like Peerimus said," to understand the terrain, and to seek to mitigate what advantages their enemies might have from the surrounding land. He empties his extra-dimensional carriers of most of their gear, and, when the requested tour is given, picks up as many rocks as he can fill into his haversack and quiver, and suggests to his larger friends they load up with as many rocks and boulders as they can as ammunition for the catapults. He looks for some good quantities of sand, as well, and fills a bunch of sacks with it, asking for help in carrying all of this. If no sand is available, he looks for loose dirt, and fills the bags with that.

"They dug and concealed a pit lined with spikes, trying to lure us in, as I alluded to earlier. What has your own surveillance revealed over the past few days? Any evidence that they might have prepared siegeworks?"

If Alemi chooses to delegate some of the information transfer, Kendry is happy to work with whom he assigns.

Kendry also waits for Alemi to give his views on the figures depicted in the tapestry that he laid out for him to see a few minutes ago.

He almost thinks to tug on the edge of the Lord Alemi's tunic to remind him of his question about Eberyon and Maab, but thinks the better of it. Time, perhaps, to learn about that tomorrow -- unless Alemi chooses to address the question sooner.

Airin and Erwen
Monday December 5th, 2005 7:33:01 AM

The 8 of us defending the northern wall... oopsiedaizy

"Guys, just an idea", Airin says to her friends. "Knowing there has been some sort of leakage to the outside about this Oshir House I suggest we do not talk battle plans too openly."

If the others agree she waits to discuss plans till they feel somewhat secure to talk.

"Look there are only 8 of us. The sight from below won't be too menacing for a large force. Wouldn't it be possible to add dummies to the northern wall? Make it look there are possibly hundreds of people defending the wall? Could be then they decide the risks are too high?

Also, could use some grease to pour down the walls or boiling oil.

I also like Kendry's idea of a trench filled with sticks..."

Has anyone wondered where that tunnel we saw in the troglobytes trench went to? Maybe that would bring us behind enemy lines? Do we have a way to investigate that?

Peerimus and Shaylin
Monday December 5th, 2005 10:17:18 AM

The druid nods at Airin's suggestion, "Well thought, we should use caution." The druid continues, his nose wrinkling in self annoyance. "I have no experience in siege defense of of manning walls against an attack and so do not know if anyone else's ideas are good or not."

"What I do know is this. There are 11 of us, not 8 and our largest concern will be vision during the night attack. Weapons which fire from hundred of yards will be worthless, as no one will be able to see past 200 feet. Personally I will be able to see no further than the lanterns that will mark the opponents targets. To the trench and stakes, I can help with neither of these in any greatly efficient manner."

"If no one objects, Gilan and I will scout out the terrain just past the North wall. Knowing what the enemy is crossing and what the north wall looks like from the enemy's viewpoint may offer someone insight on defenses." Peerimus looks to Gilan with a small nod, "Shall we my brother?"

Gilan and Ciaran
Monday December 5th, 2005 11:35:53 AM

Gilan's lips pulls back in an all too familiar grin as he looks to Peerimus, his eyes sparkling with unconcealed mirth. "I would love to have a little go...recon you say." He looks do Ciaran and nods his head as he points to Tishe' and issues a single command. "Guard." He then looks to Tishe' and gives her a knowing smile. "Watch over my brother for me as he watches over you."

He thinks over some of the things that have been suggested and then nods his head. "Give us rope and the like so that we can set up a few nice surprises on our side." He looks to Peerimus and smiles wickedly. "I think that we can use our ability to survive to set a few traps." He then yawns as he shakes himself lightly. "Lets try to get back so that we can get our rest and renew our spells...we will have enough time if we are quick with what we have to do."

DM Kelly
Monday December 5th, 2005 6:21:51 PM

Alemi looks at Kendry, and throws a sheet over the tapestry fragment.

"Again, I beesch you, do not speak of your mission here. I must do what I know in my heart is right, not seek answers from another time. I am afraid the knowledge may corrupt me."

Looking at Bralin, he smiles:

"Yes, I can give some information about the foe we face. They do not fly, yet they have been known to tunnel. Though I believe we would know if they have formed tunnels near the Oshirr House. You are like to face Fey Goblins, Orcs or Kobolds. Their numbers have been expanding, so I do not know the number, but it will be great."

When Kendry asks about time to rest and prepare spells, Alemi smiles and nods.

"Yes, I have a room you can rest and meditate in. I can weave energy to slow time for you and speed resting. Within 4 hours you should have the time and rest to refresh yourselves. Let me know if such a thing is what you desire."

Upon the question of healing, Alemi looks at the group:

"Forgive me, you have come from a battle and suffer from wounds. Grasp the medallion I gave you, and purify your thoughts."

Alemi then touches his fingers together while chanting. A bluish light fills the room, and your wounds close before your eyes.

"I have the power to heal, as do many of my followers. I am afraid my powers will be taxed tonight, and I may not be available to help during the heat of battle. I will be on the South wall, far from you. Do you have abilities to heal yourselves?"

Questions of ammunition are answered.

"There are rocks for the catapults, but you can gather more if you desire. Oil and grease do not exist here in large supply."

"The map you have of Oshirr House is accurate, you can use that as you prepare for defense of the North Wall. Have you any other questions?"

Podo
Monday December 5th, 2005 8:30:15 PM

"Er, Alemi, Do you have sling bullets? As an unarmed combatant, aside from my quarterstaff, I can use a sling. I happen to have 50 cold iron bullets...but if the numbers are as great as you say, I will require some more bullets." inquires Podo of Lord Alemi.

Flexing, Podo follws the examples set by his fellow adventurers, and prepares for the attack to come.

Kendry
Monday December 5th, 2005 9:54:04 PM

"Yes, Podo - cold iron bullets, and cold iron arrowheads and bolt tips would be great."

"Lord Alemi - the tapestry is, we believe, from your own time. But I'll not insist you look at it." Unless Alemi changes his mind, Kendry takes the tapestry, rolls it up, and places it back within a scroll case, and thence into his quiver. He admires the man's sense of integrity.

"One more question, sir? Was this, indeed, The Jericko's house? Is The Jericko the Creator, or is it another?" Kendry is very earnest in this question, for, following Eberyon's claim to have created halflings, Kendry really wants to know if this is true, or yet another dissembly on the part of the Fae King. And who created the Wold itself, and all else? Why are there so many gods? Who is the ultimate god? Or is there such?

He joins in with those checking out the perimeter, and gathering rocks and sand and any other useful things he might find. He may take two trips, if pickin's are good enough. He also checks out the ramparts, and looks into the supply of arrows.

He thinks about the 2,000 arrows. Then he has a bunch of his own, close to 200 of various sorts. If he fires 20 arrows a minute, that's 1200 in an hour. Of course, he'll do other things in the course of an hour, too. Maybe get some wounds healed, and so on. He hopes there aren't enough attackers to have them use up all the ammo.

Then, he joins will all who wish to rest. "Let us ask the Creator for strength and wisdom and endurance," he suggests to his companions. He offers a brief prayer along these lines himself.

The bard spends half an hour writing in his journal, then says goodnight to all, punches Podo lightly on the shoulder, and gives Airin a light kiss on the forehead before moving to his bed for some good rest. He sighs, wishing that Patterton were with them too. What happened to Patty? Why didn't he come with them through time? Soon, he is snoozing as he drifts off thinking about some of his favorite bread surprises.

Upon awakening, he prepares himself for what is to come, and helps others as he is able.

Airin and Erwen
Tuesday December 6th, 2005 11:37:15 AM

"Do you have any bolts for small weaponry like mine? I need bolts... lot's of bolts..."

Airin follows Kendry's exemple and goes to bed. She slowly caresses Erwen to calm the predator down so she is ready for some scouting business soon.

8 hours of sleep should do, add an extra hald an hour of meditation and Airin will be up and ready.

Tishe' (AC 16 HP56/56) and Snout (AC 17 HP32/32) (by Kim)
Tuesday December 6th, 2005 3:44:28 PM

Tishe' takes some food, and sees that Snout has no more than a like snack, and plenty of water to drink. Better, perhaps, that he be fairly hungry for tonight's expected battle.

She spends a little time with the map, then goes to join the others in a good afternoon's sleep, thinking a bit about what might be a good choice in spells upon waking.

DM Kelly
Tuesday December 6th, 2005 7:33:22 PM

Alemi sends those who seek supplies to the armory, where they indeed do have sling bullets. Bolts are also in supply, as the crossbow has recently been invented.

Looking at Kendry, Alemi adds:

"If this tapestry is from my time, I believe it is still a future time to me, though it may be soon. I dare not look. As for questions of the gods, perhaps tomorrow would be a better time for such a discussion."

OOC: Okay, everyone will rest for 4 hours, and it will be the same as 8 hours normally. You will awake at 5 PM, and should be able to prepare your spells. Let me know what you have prepared. If you have questions prior to that, let's deal with that in the next posting.

OOC: Kim, read into this that I don't know the answers to your questions and I am trying to find out. If you know, e-mail them to me.

Kendry  d20+9=24
Tuesday December 6th, 2005 10:48:06 PM

Kendry nods his head in acquiescence to Alemi's words.

The halfling arranges for as many large barrels of water and smaller casks as possible. Should fire be used against them, he wants the means to help extinguish it. Those preparations bring to his mind the fire set in the marketplace by Sisters Square a couple days ago. Or, that is, a few thousand years in the future... And how Podo and a few others managed to extinguish the fire set by the red cloaks against the less-than-scrupulous vendor of churchwares.

He gets some food to eat - eating lightly for energy, not so much as to induce lethargy.

Defensive planning, preparations, and ideas

He finds a spot about midway along the ramparts. Kendry checks to see whether there might be a large shield he can use in case of need. He sets up scores of arrows for easy picking. To each spell caster he reminds them of the command word for his wand of cure light wounds, which has (I think) 34 charges left [will double check]. If necessary, he'll get a little box or block of wood to stand upon, should the bottom of the crenelation be too high for him to shoot over. He also gauges the height of the merlons.

[To Gather Information about the various defensive set ups: 24.]

If he finds the walls have machicolations, then he'll get himself a spot set up there, too. He checks to see the status of the hoardings, studying what provisions have been placed within - rocks, tar, pitch? - to pour on attackers.

Next he looks to the catapults, and discusses how they will be manned and fired by the students. He gets the name of each student who will be available to work with them, and tries to learn a little about who they are, and what skills they might bring to the defense of the Oshirr House. "How came the house by the name Oshirr?" he inquires.

Alemi mentioned devices useful for pushing ladders back. "Would it be better to push a ladder back as soon as it makes contact with the wall, or to wait until someone has climbed up a ways?" he asks people to get their opinion. He looks to find the placement of the poles.

"Say, some of you stronger folk - if you can grab a ladder just as it swings in, before more than one enemy is on it, maybe you can pull it up and bring it inside the compound - give them one less ladder to use against us. Someone nearby can attack the fellow on the ladder, too, if there is one."

Another thing he asks about is rope. He'd like lots of rope. He has two 100' coils of silk rope, himself. "Maybe we can have six foot lengths of rope, and hand one end to someone trying to come up the sides. When they grab it and start to put weight on it, then we let go, and they fall down."

On his role in the upcoming combat, Kendry lets folks know that he can shoot an arrow about every three seconds. "My bow is magicked against fae creatures. Say, I need to come up with a name for it." He considers a name for his rapier, too.

[OOC: Any chance of getting in advance of the upcoming combat a more detailed graph of the walls, ramparts, etc.? Especially considering all the prep we're going through. -Kim]

Peerimus and Shaylin
Tuesday December 6th, 2005 11:48:12 PM

Peerimus nods to Gilan, "We have a couple hours to see what we can see." Dropping Shaylin he gives the big cat a smile, "Come, it is time to hunt."

Peerimus, still under the effect of the Longstrider spell, as is Shaylin, move off quickly around to the outside of the north wall with Gilan and his wolf. Shaylin bounds ahead, light as the air itself on her feet and slips through the brush like water through stones. Soon after they leave sight of Oshire House Peerimus stops and crouches, turning back to face Gilan.

"I am troubled my brother. The halflings I fear are not moving forward with open hearts in this matter. I fear their proximity to Culverwood and Ebyron's birth may prevent them from seeing his return as anything but disaster. Know I have not decided, having not seen or learned near enough on the matter, but I lean towards the awakening. His is one of the ancients after all. I was curious at where your own thoughts and heart lead you on this."

Peerimus slides his oaken staff through the dirt, "I am also of mind to not sit idly by if the need to defend the Fey king becomes necessary." With the last words the druid of the deep southern continent jungles falls quiet, his eyes locked on Gilan, whom he considers his brother, though their homelands are separated by hundreds of miles and ruled by radically different terrain.

Wednesday December 7th, 2005 6:16:17 PM

Kendry talks with the soldiers, attempting to get some information about how to defend the fortress.

"Rope and supplies are in abundance. Let us know what you need and where you want them. I'm not sure if you will be able to pull up a ladder once it is set, usually they swarm it fast. Not without some kind of extra help or device, don't know how that would work. Let us know what you want, and we will try and get it."

OOC: Map on its way. Did not put on a grid, but describe the locations of stores you want. I will add a grid later.

Gilan
Wednesday December 7th, 2005 7:21:15 PM

Gilan stops to consider Peerimus's words as he looks back to the man. He keeps his eyes focused on the other druids as he ponders. "I have been feeling the same...they fear what the do not know...they see his actions earlier as attacks, when it might have been just instinct...survival." The last word is one that he can attest to on many levels. It has become a part of him that he feels more often since he has embraced nature further. "I cannot say that I will side either way in his fate as of yet...I have not the answers that I want...or need." His eyes harden as he looks back in the direction of the others and sighs. "I too will protect this Fae King...till I get answers or till I see no other choice...he is part of nature that is for sure and therefore a part of me...maybe a large part now." He shakes his head as all this thinking is starting to hurt his head.

Turning back to the business at hand he looks in the direction of the outside. "So do we still see about numbers and see about setting some traps?" He shakes off some of the lethargy that has taken ahold of him and loosens up muscles. "I could use some exercise and I would like to see what we face."

Kendry  d20+12=25 d20+7=13 d20+12=17 d20+7=20 d20+12=32 d20+12=18 d20+7=12 d20+12=25 d20+7=14 d20+12=24 d20+7=19 d20+12=26 d20+7=19
Thursday December 8th, 2005 2:44:38 AM

Kendry thanks the soldiers. "What if we tie big rocks onto one end of a section of rope, and make a slip knot in the other? With a lasso of sorts on one end, we toss that over the head or limb of someone climbing up, then toss the rock over behind them. That pulls them backward, and off the wall to the ground beneath." He's not sure how well it would work - but leaves it to the soldiers to experiment with if they wish.

"How deep do the walls go? Do we have defenses against sappers?" Kendry asks. He's never defended a place like this before, but has done a lot of reading in the past of such things. "Is there an engineer or architect among us?" he asks the soldiers.

Kendry asks about using some old linens or cotton, or some inflammable fabric. He cuts the cloth into strips, and soaks a good quantity of it in oil. "Make flaming arrows tonight," he says. "Help catch any siege engines on fire. Catch monsters on fire, maybe, too," he adds. Once the cloth is well soaked, he begins tying one strip just behind the head of each arrow.

He rigs up a few torch stands behind the merlons. He explains to others his plan to allow the tip of the arrow to pass briefly through the torch's flame, then draw and loose the arrow. He experiments with some arrows, working on making the action smooth and repeatable. After a dozen arrows, he figures he's got the pattern down pretty well. Never even burnt himself.

He did pick up, when he bought the bow, a half dozen extra bowstrings. Might come in handy tonight. He makes sure that he places a few extra bowstrings in a pouch for ready access. He practices taking off the present string, and restringing with a new one a few times.

"Podo, how are you doing in getting ready for tonight? Any special thoughts?"

He asks the same of each of his friends and companions: Airin, Peerimus, Gilan, Nezamil, Bralin, and Tishe'.

[OOC: Did I read that Wilfire wants to return to the group?]

To Alemi and Domi, he tells them that, when hostilities look imminent, he would like to cast a message spell to include Alemi, Domi, and the members of the group. "It will allow us to stay in communication with one another for nearly two hours - we can let you know what's happening on our side of the wall, and you on your side."

The bard begins to compose poetry and songs in his head. He pulls out ink, pen and parchment, and writes some down.

Airin and Erwen  d20+16=32
Thursday December 8th, 2005 9:13:25 AM

Airin wakes up and starts her prayers for Mother Nature.

"May You guide us through the night
Behold my friends in this darkest hour
Empower me with all your might."

Then she returns to her friends and grabs a bite. She will need her strength this evening and there will be no time left for dinner.

Erwen feels the exitement and hops up and down on Airin's arms. "Hush my dear... soon... soon"

"Friends let's put our heads together in private." and then Airin tries to find a safe place for discussing plans.

"Here's what I have in mind for tonight.

First I would like to put a little piece of string around Erwen's neck and cast a Daylight spell on it once night falls. If I recollect this well, Kobolds aren't too keen about Daylight and it will dazzle them. Erwen will be able to fly above the enemy and wreck havoc with this moving ball of daylight.

Second that ball of Fire earlier proved to work marvelously. Gilan I know your fears but we may need to use it. I will only use it outside the keep and when really needed, ok?

I have some water spells memorised. Should the enemy attack with fire we need to quench it.
Or if not, I will use it to get the terrain in front of the northern wall soaking wet and then cast the soften earth spell so they get trapped in mud.

What else do you guys and girls have in mind? Could we strap some of those bows to the walls makign them look as if a lot of archers are standing by?"

Gradually as night will draw closer Airin's eyes start to flicker with exitement.
War... fear for loosing your precious ones, the thrill of feeling your blade slicing through an enemy skull, the stench of burned flesh and bones, the smell of blood dripping from your blade...

No this is not what mother nature had in mind but this is why she asked girls like Airin to serve and protect.

Approximately an hour before nightfall Erwen will fly high above the Oshir House in circles slowly increasing the diameter looking for danger.

Peerimus stands and places his hand on Gilan's shoulder. "I will stand by you always brother and we shall just have to see what the future holds." Peerimus can not help but smile as he speaks the last words. For indeed it seems a odd thing to say after travelling to the past.

"Now let us see what we can see here." Peerimus moves about looking for signs of tracks and some good locations to set a snare. The snares are designed to more surprise and sting then do any real damage. That way Peerimus figures he will be able to hudge where the enemy is later on that night.

Kendry tries his flaming arrows, and has perfected a way to light them without hazard. However, the weight and bulk of the flaming cloth makes the arrows less accurate (-2 Hit). The soldiers seem to like the idea of the weighted noose, but add:

"Alemi has commanded us to fight upon the other walls. He has deemed you fit to hold the North. We will have the catapults manned for you, and will await your orders to use them. The walls are 5 foot thick here at the top, and widen at the base to 8 feet. They are very strong. The architect is not available though."

Gilan and Peerimus look at the terrain, and seek places to set traps. The area is cleared of large trees and brush, as is typical near a defended fortress.

OOC: Waiting for more posts. We will use Kim's detail of the exterior walls, use that in your planning. Just sent a map with a numbered grid. Post again your actions/preparations using the grid.

Nezamil thinks on Kendry's words " its a large section of wall a lotta space to cover ...i think if we use our spells wisely we can channel the attackers to good tactical locations for our response....as Airin has a daylight spell i do also we could cast one on oneside and have Airins friend herd the beasts with the other....group em nice and tight and blast them with barrages of arrows and spells " replies the dwarf to Kendry

The dwarf climbs the stairs to the central tower along the northern wall (Z20) and surveys the soon to be battlefield to get a feel for the area.

Podo's Preparations

Podo heads stright to the armory looking for as many sling bullets as they can spare and he can carry. "A staff does us no good as long distances. Let's just hope that it doesn't get to that!" says Podo to the Armory's Staff.

Once finished collecting what he can, Podo will move to a spot along the Northern wall (I21).

Making it to a good spot, Podo makes a small pile of sling bullets within a good reach. He also unpacks his gear, taking out the tubular spear, his darkwood staff, and his cold iron sling ammo.

Tishe' and Snout (by Kim)
Friday December 9th, 2005 3:10:54 AM

Tishe' awakens and rearranges her spell selection [OOC: which I still have to finalize]. She familiarizes herself with the layout, walking the grounds and ramparts. Is there enough vegetation outside the walls for effective use of the entangle spell? Should the foe scale the walls, well, she says, Snout can be an important part of the welcoming committee.

DM note - the area has grass that would serve to entangle.

Peerimus and Shaylin
Friday December 9th, 2005 11:10:59 AM

Peerimus will go all the way to the wood line to set the snares. He is looking for small sapling trees which can be bent low and whip across the shins. Hopefully hard enough to elicit a howl or surprised squeel.

That done, he returns to the fort. I will prepare several long lasting spells that will greatly impeded the approaching attack from the north as well as cause minor injury to them. I can cover an area 20' deep and 180'long per spell. It will outlast the battle.

Ooc I have not seen a map with a grid.
Peerimus will cast greater magic fang on Shaylin shortly after sundown.
Peerimus will cast Spike Growth to run the length of the northern wall starting 20' away from the wall. If possible he will make the area 40x180 otherwise it will be 20x360

Bralin
Friday December 9th, 2005 11:30:09 AM

Bralin listens to the plans, but has nothing to add. The enemy will come, and the dwarf will kill them.

He answers Nezamil's earlier question about spell prep - "A strength spell would be good, as well as enlargement. Have ye the means of flight? Were I able to fly down and strike and then retreat to the walls, I could do much damage at minimal risk."

Once the time comes, Bralin climbs to the middle part of the left section (Z20). He brings several score crossbow bolts with him.

Gilan and Ciaran
Friday December 9th, 2005 5:47:28 PM

Gilan will follow along with Peerimus and then help to lay out a series of foot traps. He willl also just set up some normal trip wires that will cause falling and stumbling, maybe some well placed rocks to land upon or the like. His smile widens as he sets up every new little hazard.

Once back at the base he will take his rest and prepare for the next morning. As the others prepare he growls low in his own throat. "I will be of little use...I work better when I can get up close and personal with my enemy." His feral smile tells you where he would rather be at but he does gather a small bag of sling bullets to make use of. He looks at the sling in his hand and shakes his head. "Not the sporting way."

Spell list to come as I need to look over what a Shifter can have again. Limited spell list you know. :)

Airin and Erwen
Monday December 12th, 2005 10:55:19 AM

"Excellent arrows Kendry!" Airin says and she nods to Nezamil. "Yes trying to herd them all together to concentrate our fire should prove to be a good tactic.
Do you think we can place some flammable barrels of oil, or small pits in a certain line of approach that we can put on fire with Kendry's arrows?"

Airin looks up to the sky and tries to find out how late it is. Once the sun will start to fall, she will tie a little string with a small coin to Erwen's neck and make her scout the surroundings high up in the sky.
