The unified Bloodpack, and the three remaining Manfri, set themselves for the coming attack. Across several score feet of sand are those rapke that chose to step into the Kall'a'tek. And not only rapke. For eight bounders also are in the ring. Ulgren takes a closer look. Each bounder looks like some sort of demented cross between a frog and a bull dog. Three rows of teeth sit in the huge mouth. the Mouth itself is about 3 feet wide. Heavy armor plates overlap down the beasts back which is also very frog like. The Front legs are thin and small but long ending in clawed hand like things. The hand appears capable of grasping and manipulating things and each claw is razor sharp. The hind legs are huge and shaped much like a giant kangaroo leg.

As for the Rapke, the drow notes it looks like a cross between a horse and a raptor like dinosaur. The animal is about as large as a small elephant. Except for two, they stand 8' tall at the shoulder, and are about 10' long. The other two, the ones with riders, are half again as big. Dark eyes that indicate a malevolent intelligence set above a smiling mouth of teeth. Despite their size, the rapke move with extraordinarily agility as they step into the sand ring.

The two largest rapke (R7 and R8) are ridden by dark man in dark cloaks with hoods pulled up, concealing their faces.

Flea chants a hymn of courage, revealing her newfound skills as a bard. The gnome figures the two riders make for a good target, and shoots three bolts of energy into the rider of R7. Both rider and mount grimace in pain.

Trellus casts a spell, affecting both friend and foe nearby.
[Anuk is outside the range of the spell and cannot take the bonus]

Tishe casts a protective spell.

Mac, Anuk, Grymash, and Jake steel themselves for the coming battle. The half elf is able to put on his armor in time for the battle.

Gilan moves over behind Grymash, and encloses the barbarian in a barkskin spell.

Ulgren casts a Haste spell, which effects only himself, Grymash, Jake, Mac, and Gilan.
[All recipients of spell must be within 30' of each other. I fudged for Jake, but that's as far as I'm willing to go].

As one, the six smaller rapke and the eight bounders launch themselves across the open area with unnerving speed. Simultaneously, the two larger rapke move halfway up and then deliver their ear-splitting screams at the front line of the defenders.

[Mac, Jake, Grymash, and Gilan. -- Make two Fort saves DC15. Failure means stunned for 3 rounds. If fail both, the effect is still only 3 rounds.]

The six rapke charge straight at Jake, Mac, and Grymash. At the end of their run, each tries to bite a large hunk out of an elf, taur, or half orc.

Mac gets an AoO on one attacking foe.
R2 atks Mac - hit ac18
R3 atks Mac - hit ac32 for 17 hp damage + poison [Fort DC 13 or lose 10 DEX]

Meanwhile, the rider of R7 produces a wand, which he points at Ulgren.

The bounders also move forward. However, they are forced to move in an arc around the center battle, and so do not have time to attack.

Flea continues with her song, keeping her eyes on the strange dark cloaked rider and the mount. A dark memory hides in the shadow of her mind. There is something about the rider and the rapke...some kind of bond...hitting one hurts them both...but which one? Flea triggers her wand (UMD=21) and sends the missiles at the beast under the rider (R7 for 11 dmg).

Grymash feels his rage blaze into a white hot enfernal. As the rapke charges at him he swings his massive axe looking to swiftly sever the beasts head from its body.

(Attack of Opportunity on R6. Powerattack +7dam/-7hit, two-handed +14dam. HitAC: 36 crit threat. HitAC: 33 crit. Damage: 41+37+44=122 points of damage. Must make Fort save DC 15 or die from massive damage. IF the rapke drops, then ... Cleave Attack on R5. Same adjustments. HitAC: 27. Damage: 40 points of damage.)

Then Grymash slices into the second rapke until its breathed his last. He bellows a feral roar most near live to hear again.

Mac is (Fort: 23 & 14,no (spends his penultimate Hero Point) & 17) not stunned. phew!

The rapke charge. OOC: DM? I can see how R5 easily avoids provoking an AoO, and how R2 can just avoid one with care, but I can't see how either R3 or R4 can avoid one each. Mac sizes them up and swings.

AoO(1): Target(R3) hits AC:28 for 30-1=29 damage
AoO(2): Target(R4) hits AC:24 for 29-1=28 damage

Mac fails to avoid their maws, but fortunately (Fort: 27 & 12, no (spends his final Hero Point) 17) feels no further ill effects.

Glancing at the situation, Mac reckons Gry has Rapke-5's measure. He takes a 5' step towards Jake and brings the greataxe around with great force on the remaining rapkes.

The monstrous gigantic warthog/horse/frog-like thing comes rushing at him, and Jake feels a momentary panic at its keen cries. And the sight of the riders. Barons! his mind screams, and even though they'd fought them before, this is the first time he fought against the evil followers of the Shadow King himself.
For a second, those childhood stories come back to him, and Jake remembers being terrified one night, that if he kept on asking about the outside world, the Barons would come grab him and steal him away. It makes him feel small again...
Maybe it's the singing of Flea, her powerful words pulling up his subconscious, or maybe the magics infusing him with speed, or the Manfri's aura. It could be past memories, of fighting the rapke here before. Or Mac and Grymash standing next to him, and the others depending on him. But Jake does find the strength to stand tall against his enemy. It smashes into him, almost bowling him over with its strength, but he stands firm, and then leans forward and swishes his sword out to gash the Rapke's leg. He ducks and jukes to the side, slashing out again at its other leg, nicking it, not sure if he penetrates the armor.
It snarls at him, lunging its head forward, and he instinctively bring his sword right up into its jaw, cutting satisfyingly deep into it.
(+2 to attack/damage from the magic effects, and Power Attacking for 2 as well: Hit AC 31 and did 16 damage and 1 freezing damage, hit AC 23 (not sure if that's a hit) did 17 damage and 1 freezing damage, then nat 20 but pretty sure it missed on the confirmed at AC 14, did 17 + 3 freezing damage. Not as good as his awesome buddies, but pretty good in his own right. :) )

The initial Horn Attack should only have hit AC:14 for 27 damage. The Horn Cleave hits(nat 20) for 21 damage + 2d6+15=23 if AC:18 is a successful Crit.Check, for a total of 44. If there was a Cleave off one of the other three attacks instead and the crit.check was successful then they take 40 damage already rolled, and an additional 4d6+29(x2) = 37+42 = 79, for a total of 119.

"Got yer back, Jake!" Anuk yells as the chaos erupts. On the periphery of his vision are three bounders--he is aware of them but his concentration is on the rapke attacking his friend (R1). He fires two arrows in quick succession at the creature, but the second goes wide and disappears into the grasses.

"Sunblasted treadles!" he yells out in frustration.

Attack 1: hits AC29 for 10 pts

(used a hero point to re-roll 2nd attack and got a nat 1 *sigh*)

Gilan feels the wave of fear wash over him and shrugs it off with what he hopes is ease. His lips pull back to expose a feral grin and that gleam is in his eyes. He steps five feet away from Grymash to allow him his room and then falls into a chant of his own...more of a song to Mother Wold. "The land my life." He drops a column of fire down upon two of the rapke(R2 & R3) in front of Mac.

Ciaran finds the fear almost laughable in his wolven mind. He keeps his stance by his brother and watches his back for trouble. He knows his place at this time is to cover his brother so that he can do his thing.

Ulgren shrugs off the effects of the wand,(Will DC 22) and a grim smile creeps across his face. Ulgren looks directly at the rider and stretches forth his hand; an orange colored pea flies directly at the wand weilding whitehand and explodes for 25 points of fire damage. "Shady!" Ulgren says watching the flames engulf the Rapke riding Baron.

Haste: 1 extra attack if full round attack used, +1 to attack, +1 dodge to AC, +1 to reflex saves, speed increase 30 feet to a maximum of doubling a persons movement.(6 rounds)

The battle is joined in earnest.

Flea continues her inspirational song, while again firing a volley of Magic Missiles at R7. Again both act as if affected.

Grymash is in his element. As the two rapke approach, the barbarian unleashes a horrific blow upon R6. The axe rips the rapke's belly open and nearly severs its head. Confident that the creature is finished, Gry turns upon R5, and with three solid blows inflicts just as much damage on that animal as well.

Both rapke have received death blows. Both are pumping out blood and pieces of internal organs. The skin of both animals turns greyer, deader. But neither drop. Despite the fact the both rapke should be very dead, they continue to attack Grymash.

Three rapke charge Mac, and the taur has a ready answer for two. The minotaur's axe bites deeply into R3 and R4, spraying blood and eliciting squeals of agony from the rapke.
Mac moves over a step, and then engages four rapkes at once. Only one of his blows actually finds a target. But it's a nasty one on R4, that rips the beast open.

However, just like with Grymash's opponents, the dead rapke won't get all the way dead. It continues to attack.

Jake stands up the to the charging R1, and responds with three well placed blows of his own. The rapke is shredded, and barely standing. But it hasn't turned the deadish grey of some of the others. And it keeps coming.

Anuk sends an arrow into R1. Its really on the brink now.

[Rapke 1- 6 are AC23]

Gilan drops a column of flame on R2 and R3. Both creatures dodge the brunt of the blast, but fire apparently works just fine.

Ciaran stays close to the druid's back.

Ulgren engulfs the wand toting R7 rider in a fireball. The rapke and his mount nimbly dance out of the path, and aren't even singed. The hooded cowl regards Ulgren for a moment, and then moves on.

Trellus also casts a spell at R7, but the rider easily avoids the Hammer.

Tishe casts a spell.

The three manfri shift, trying to form a wall on the right flank against an onslaught of bounders. Two strike out at B4 with small spears. Both connect.

Gilan, Trellus, Jake, Grymash, Anuk -- Int check DC 8 to remember Highlight to display spoiler: { last time, the dead kept fighting until drenched with water. Then the bloodflies finished them off. }

R1 attacks Jake. Although both claws miss, its rips into the half-elf with its teeth.

R7 rider decides he's got bigger problems than Ulgren. He points his wand at Grymash.

R8 rider apparently thinks the same thing. He casts a spell, unleashing a thunderclap of sound amidst the Bloodpack.

Sweating in the hot sun on the black sand and finishing a complicated spell, Tishe' whirls and points to the Bounder sizing her up. A golden glow forms and the Celestial Bison once again stands on the Sargrass Plains.

It snorts and attacks the bounder with tough horns. (AC 19 Dam 13)

The brown haired woman doesn't pause but moves into a different spell, this time using the powers of Mother Wold to spontaneously cast Summon Nature's Ally II over Hold Animal. Another set of complicated words and symbols weave in front of her.

Mac collapses under the rapkes' attacks - nearly six-and-a-half thousand pounds of minotaur makes several sickening sounds smashing onto the sand.

Grymash steps 5-ft to the left, next to Mac and brings his blood-soaked axe into one of the rapkes (R4) that dropped his friend.

Gilan realizes from thier earlier battle that the problem is water...they need water to send these dead ones to thier final rest. "Water the gray ones and they will die for good." He then begins another song to the Wold Mother with a smile upon his face. As he finishes the spell he sends a deluge of water cascading down the line of rapke in front of Mac and Grymash. "Beware the water guys." His placement has to be just right as he does not want to catch anyone else in it...especially Mac. He gives Ciaran a signal and mouths the word protect as he indicates Tishe'.

Ciaran is a ball of furry as he launches himself in that direction and the rapke that is eyeing her. He slams into it from the side with all the might he can muster.

Hoping that Jake can end the fight with his rapke on his own, Anuk turns his attention to the bounders that have come at him. He backs quickly away from them (5' step to square directly on Anuk's right on the map) and fires away. The first arrow is intended for B2 but again goes awry. "C'mere, piggie," he mutters to himself as he launches the second arrow. It's planted deep into the creature with a damp thud.

Seeing the bloody but still-fighting rapke, Anuk remembers how this fight had to end last time(int 21 - ah...there's where my nat 20 went). "Water!!" he yells "Soak 'em in water and let the bugs finish them off!" At the sight of the mangled minotaur he adds, "But keep it away from Mac!!!"

Attack 1: hits AC16 (another nat 1. Gry, I think you're taking all my luck ;-)
Attack 2: hits AC 26 for 11 pts

Jake fends off the scrabbling claws with his shield, but as he's darting to the side the thing lunges forward and takes a big chomp into his shoulder. He yelps in pain and lurches out of its grip, ignoring the stinging pain. "Water, yeah, that's it.."
Jake realizes thet hing before him still isn't quite at the stage where water would be useful, but figures that if he can't kill it this round, he might as well drench it first. He reaches for his water, and then groans. It's gone!! Instead, all he has is... well...

"NOOooooooooooooo!" He screams in utter pain. For, he has to make the ultimate sacrifice. And it had better work. With a groan of agony, he uncorks the wineskin and sprays the monster before him with it.

Tishe brings up a summoned bison between herself and the startled bounder. Her new ally thunders into B3, striking it soundly. The sorceress immediately begins summoning another helper.

Bounders are AC 17

Mac feels the tearing fangs and claws of the rapke and wonders aloud why he hasn't collapsed. Seeing the even more grievous wounds of his foes, he wonders aloud why they haven't collapsed. All this wondering doesn't stop the fighter from dealing out some more punishment.
He rips open R1, severely damages R2, and gores R3.

R1 takes on that grayish, deadish color.

Mac, quite noticeably, has NOT changed color. He's only been shredded and is bleeding from multiple wounds. The taur feels a pulling sensation as if he should be unconscious.
However, upon the arrival of Trellus and the healing wand, even that sensation is gone.

With a roar, Grymash falls upon R4. The rapke, already grey in color and severely damaged by Mac's earlier blows, doesn't look any better after the barbarian's hack and slash job. But the creature still stands.

Gilan has the answer to Mac's query. Water. The druid casts a create water spell, aiming it at R5 and R6 in an effort to avoid the minotaur. However, he can only cover enough area to coat R5.

The water hits the rapke, and it screams in terror. Half a heartbeat later, the very ground boils as millions of bloodflies erupt from the earth. Millions more descend from the Grass surrounding the sand arena. All converge on the hapless rapke, who's shrieks rise and then subside. Within the span of two breaths, R5 is nothing but stripped bone.
[Create Water -- volume is halved on the Sargass, so Gilan creates 8 gallons. Per the spell, 8 gals occupies one cubic foot and the caster can expand to an area three times as large -- I'm calling that three square feet. Therefore, one rapke]

At the druid's command, Ciaran races around the newly created bison and strikes B3 in one of its massive legs. Totally unprepared for this type of attack, the bounder falls to the ground with a thump. It growls with frustration.

Anuk backs up a step and lets fly two arrows from his bow. One strikes home. Neither of the bounders seems all that concerned, though.

Flea continues to sing, and steps back from the bounders facing her. The gritty gnome sends a volley of Magic Missiles into B6. It yelps in pain, and gives her a menacing glare.

Ulgren turns to his left, and sends two rays at B2. One ray overshoots, but the other slams into the creatures chest with a hiss.

Jake sorrowfully pulls out a wineskin, and sprays it on R1. The brave half-elf's sacrifice is not in vain, as bloodflies like wine. The rapke goes down screeching in agony under an insect assault. It too, is quickly and messily devoured.

Two manfri continue to attack B4, while the third strikes at B5 before stepping backward to form a line with Flea.
B4 doesn't have much left, but the other bounder isn't hurt very badly.

R2 attacks Mac. It hits with its bite.

Jake watches the rapke go down, sizzling... in his mind he sees it yelling, like some crazy old witch, 'I'm melting! Melting! What a world...'
But he quickly turns his attention to all the other opponents. He yells over his shoulder to the spellcasters, "Some water up here!" Then he darts forward in a blur, only able to move so fast thanks to that handy haste spell and skirts around the second bounder, and closes in it. "Anuk, let's double team these dirtsuckers!" he yells out.
(I provoke an AoO from B2, but I'm going to be attacking it from behind, flanking it with Anuk, and trying to sneak attack it.)
(Power attack, -5, flanking +2, bard song +2, sneak attack: My god...natural 20 crit, Confirmed crit natural 20 again. Wow!!)
He moves in behind it, ignoring anything it might throw at him, and jumps high up into the air, yelling. Somehow, he half-somersaults, twirling and throwing even more force into the blow, and brings the sword down, all the way up to the hilt into the rapke. He almost cleaves it in two.
(Did 16 + (crit) 11 damage + 1 (freezing) + 7 (sneak attack) = 35 damage in one hit.)

Gilan digs out a pair of waterskins from his pack and then ponders how many more have water in them. He moves up to get close enough to one of the rapke that Gry is fighting and then lets lose with a spray of water, emptying the waterskin.

Ciaran lashes out at the bounder as it tries to stand, teeth looking for tendons or anything vital. He then snaps his teeth in another two times at the rapke and prepares to trip it up again with the bison's help.

"AIIGGGHHH!!" The bounder's teeth tear into Anuk's arm as he throws it up for protection, ripping out some of the flesh in the process. The force of the bite causes Anuk to drop his bow. He backs up another five feet from the bounders to give Jake room to get behind B2. "Doubleteam 'em...you got it, Jake!" he responds to his friend's request.

While the elf drives his spectacular blow into the creature, Anuk grabs his water and uncorks it. "Watch out, Jake!" he calls out, then sloshes water at the creature (B2) after making certain that Jake is clear. When that's done he draws his sword.

"C'mere piggie piggie," he says to B1 with a gleam in his eye.

Ulgren drops his backpack to the ground and looks at Gilan. "Theres two full waterskins in there." Ulgren then turns back to the battle and eyeing the wand weilding baron raises his right hand. The drow points his finger at the baron and a cackling ray of negative energy reaches out and strikes the baron,(Ranged Touch Attack 26, SR 24, no save) for 4 negative levels. Ulgren smiles slightly and watches the others.

As Tishe' looks around at her animals and the battle, a dry, scaley nose pokes her in the side. Wart looks at his mistress and her eyes harden. "Bringing out a bow you say? Good job, Wart!" The brown-haired woman looks up and sees Ulgren's ray strike the Baron. "What say we slow down the other one?" She guages the distance and chooses a spell. Her hands weave in front of her eyes as she sprinkles a bit of powder that glitters, and then a column of glittery dust strikes the other Baron and his mount, getting into eyes and making it impossible to see! Trellus' mouth sets in a grim line as Mac is ripped again.

"Stay away from those two treadles," he tells the minotaur as he points to the two riders. "They'll have water."

Mac can no longer be helped, so the blond man rushes over to see if he can keep Anuk from joining Mac.

Jake races around the bounder (B2). The frog like creature snaps at him as he circles (failing to connect), and turns to face the more critical threat of the half elf.
[Anuk hasn't moved to melee and is outside of his own melee range. Therefore he's not threatening B2. Therefore Jake cannot flank or sneak attack. Course with two 20s it doesn't matter much]

Jake slices a large opening across the bounder, but not enough to get that glazed dead look he's seeking.

Gilan moves around Grymash and sprays R6 with a waterskin. The effect is immediate, as the rapke goes down under a cloud of bloodflies.
[I believe everyone filled up their intact waterskins from Grymash's barrel]

Ciaran rips at B3 while the bounder rises, and then slashes twice more. The wolf is unable to knock the bounder back down. However the frog like creature turns grey and dead looking. Another one awaiting water.

With the last few blows of the rapke, Mac feels very, very odd. Its as if some part of him is gone. He knows he should be dead, his wounds are too severe. And part of him feels dead, detached. And yet he fights on. The warrior's first three blows are enough to "kill" his initial target. His last blow does the same to his next target.

Anuk drops his bow, pulls out a waterskin and sloshes it onto B2. But the bloodflies do not swarm the bounder. It is still alive, and still attacking.

Flea keeps singing and again fires magic missiles at the oncoming bounder. It grimaces, and then advances.

Ulgren drops his backpack to the sandy floor, and informs everyone that two waterskins are attached to it. The drow then sends of ray of black into the chest of the R7 rider. Rider and rapke screech in agony. The cowl falls back from the human rider. His skin is white as he gasps for breath.

Grymash takes a step forward and unleashes a torrent of blows on the bounder before him. Its skin and eyes turn deadish gray under the barbarian's assault.

Two wolves appear next to Flea and attack B6. They fail to bring the bounder down, but they succeed in getting its full attention.

The bison slams the still standing B3 again.

Tishe casts a spell at R8 rider. The figure shakes his head, and looks at Tishe a moment, before continuing to raise his bow. While he's glowing, neither he nor the rapke he rides appear blinded.

Trellus races over to Anuk and heals the ranger. His Hammer strikes R7 rider once.

Two manfri continue to attack B4. Under their combined attacks, the bounder becomes quasi-dead. The third manfri quickly moves in with a water canister. Soon the bounder has dissolved under a cloud of bloodflies.

Despite the fact that he's "dead", R2 and R3 continue to attack Mac. Neither of them connect.

R7 rider looks at Ulgren with venom in his eyes. "I can't!" he tells his fellow baron. The rider again works his wand, this time at Jake.

Too many targets, and Tishe' must take some down. "Ulgen, don't let the Barons spray anyone with water!" Don't die on me, she thinks fiercely at Machastai, not again.

But water is just what is needed here and the woman takes a waterskin and sprays the Bounder on her Bison to take it out of the fight. "Charge the other flank!" she orders the bison in Celestial.

The remaining conjured wolf ignores the destruction of his companion and continues to harry B6 (AC 23 for 6 points of damage) [d8 was mistake]

The Celestial Bison doesn't answer but wheels and charges B5, his hooves churning the turf, it strikes to smite the evil in front of it, but misses.

Gilan pulls another waterskin out of his haversack and sprays the contents upon either the rapke or bounder bothering Gry. He mentally goes over how many skins he has left to work with as he shakes his head.

Ciaran growls as he avoids the attack that is launched at him. He answers in kind to the bounder, his teeth attempting to find nice spots to get ahold.

Jake feels his body hardening, as though everything's becoming extremely heavy... Sooo heavy he can't lift his limbs, which suddenly feel deadened. He opens his mouth to complain, but even that..his lips must weigh 200 pounds! He thinks about ducking, but that's when all logic escapes his mind, for even going down seems to take too much effort. Finally, he realizes what musta happened. He must be magicked or something.
Jake stands there, paralyzed, somewhat helpless. (Yikes!)

ooc: had forgotten to list Anuk's new hp properly...his total is 52, not 43 as I had been listing. The hp count above is correct. Sorry 'bout getting the actions wrong last time...I was thinking of the dropped sword as having been knocked away, so I didn't count it as an action.

"Thanks Trel...ow!!" No sooner does Anuk feel the healing touch of Trellus' wand than another fierce bite from the bounder tears into him (sheesh...he gets crits on me two rounds in a row?! Ouch.)

Anuk's sword is drawn and he slashes into the creature (B2), hoping it's enough to draw in the bloodflies to the already wet beast.

(Gry's armor gives him Electricity Resistance 10. Meaning he's resistent to the first 10 points of electric damage. Since it was only 6 points of electrical damage, he takes none.)

The arrow is all that was need to get Grymash's attention. The half-orc hastedly steps around the bounder in front of him and answers the baron's attack with his own. Streams of blood and spit sprays forward as the barbarian roars while in his feral rage. Madness set aflame with the white-hot intensity of a thousand suns.

(Attacking the baron. Powerattack -7hit/+14dam. HitAC: 36, almost a crit, darn! Damage: 45 points of damage. If thats enough to drop the baron, then Gry will cleave into the rapke he's riding. HitAC: 30. Damage: 35 points of damage.)

Tishe pulls out her waterskin and moves up to squirt it on B3.

The bison ignores her command and continues to attack B3. It misses.

The wolf attacks B6, biting it again.

Gilan takes a step forward and soaks down B7. The bounder is soon reduced to dust.

Ciaran continues to rip into the 'ought to be dead B3'. More importantly, the wolf again succeeds in pulling the bounder off its feet.

Mac activates a Seal. Now there are two enormous, grey skinned minotaurs. They both drop their axes and draw their bows.

Jake is held. The half-elf is not happy about it.

Anuk slashes at B2. The bounder's skin starts to turn color, but doesn't get very far, as its already been soaked down. The bloodflies quickly descend upon it.

Trellus heals Anuk. Domi's Hammer strikes R7 twice.

Flea steps away from the bounders, pulls out another wand, and heals herself.

With the bounder disintegrating in front of him, Grymash sees nothing but the baron who just shot him with an arrow. The enraged barbarian leaps forward, drawing an attack from the nearby R4.
The Rapke rips a very large hole in the half-orc.

Still, Grymash ignores the damage and rips into the baron with two strokes of his huge axe. Both baron and rapke scream in pain. But neither has yet been brought to the point of "semi-deadness".

In response to Trellus' call, the elder manfri on the rocks above barks a command.
M3 sprints over behind Gilan and Grymash and soaks down R4. The rapke quickly dissolves.

The other two manfri have bounders to contend with.
M1 attacks B8 - he misses twice.
M2 attacks B6 - he punches a couple large holes in the bounder, causing it to bellow in rage and pain.

R2 moves forward and attacks the illusionary Mac. With one powerful swipe of a claw, the phantom disappears.
R3 attacks Mac. It hits with its bite.

B1 attacks Anuk. The bounder is in the zone as it rips into the ranger.

Gilan cannot hear anything order wise on the battlefield but he does spot the rider pulling water near Jake. His face changes to one of complete rage, much like Gry when he is raging. He turns and charges in the direction of the rider, his form rippling as he moves. Soon there is a large polar bear nearing the rider roaring in rage at the rider.

Ciaran looks to the downed rapke and then to the one that is still standing and leering at Flea. He makes a decision that his brother would agree with. He charges the newest danger, throwing himself at it with savage furry.

Tishe' sprays the 'dead' Bounder with the contents of her waterskin and sees Ciaran speed off to help the other flank. "The Wolf should help Flea, Bison get the treadle on Anuk!"

The woman then takes off her second waterskin from around her shoulder and moves to help Jake and Anuk.

The Celestial Bison snorts a challenge at the nearest Bounder and plows its great head into the beast (AC 24, HP 15)

Mac looks to see what support is coming for Jake in his held state - none it seems. He focusses on the combined mass of the rapke and it's rider, then just the baron, then the waterskin(?) he has drawn - for he knows he can't stop the rapke or the baron with an arrow, but one good shot will render the waterskin useless. Besides, a miss might still strike the baron or the rapke!

Ulgren looks around him for the most urgent of his companions and spot Jake standing immobile infront of the rapke riding Baron and Ulgren reacts. The drow moves quickly to his left to stand 10 feet forward of Trellus and 15 feet to the left of Mac. Ulgren then casts a spell of desperation. Ulgren raises his hands then drops them to his side and a cottage drops on R7. (Cast Leomunds Secure Shelter) "Hopefully that will slow him down a minute or two!" Ulgren says over his shoulder to Trellus. If he doesnt move I will try and help Gry next!"

Haste: 1 extra attack if full round attack used, +1 to attack, +1 dodge to AC, +1 to reflex saves, speed increase 30 feet to a maximum of doubling a persons movement.(3 rounds)

Weilding a wand in each hand, Flea points the one in her right hand at the beast on her far right (R6) and tiggers it once again (UMD=21) and the balls of energy plow into the creature (9 dmg from Magic Missile). Taking another step back the gnome's eyes rove back and forth over the rapke on the party's flank trying to assess their status.

From the corner of her eye she can see that water seems to do the trick, however the rogue hasn't any.

Trellus can feel the Bloodpack getting shredded. He can't cure them fast enough.

The blond man looks over at Grymash's devastating attack on the Baron and his mount, and makes a decision.

If the treadles can't use water, it shouldn't matter how cut up his packmates get. And only two of these dudes got hands.

Trellus moves to the spot vacated by Mac, and casts a Create Water spell. The cleric drops it on R8 rider as far out as he can.

Hopefully, Gry's last attack cut the dude's thread.
Hopefully, Gry won't get wet.

Jake hears the screech of claw on armor, but is miraculously unscratched. Unfortunately, he can't move to fend off the next attack.

His packmates race to the rescue.

Gilan races in between Mac and the two rapke, changing form as he moves. For his efforts, both creatures take bites at him. Neither is able to connect.

Meanwhile, Ciaran races across the sand and slashes into B6. Upended by the wolf, the bounder crashes to the floor.

Tishe sprays the contents of her waterskin on B3. The bounder is quickly covered and consumed by bloodflies. The girl moves toward B1 while pulling out another waterskin.
The bison launches itself at B1 as well, slamming into it with a resounding thud.

Taking another step backward to avoid the claws of the rapke in front of him, Mac launches three arrows at R7's waterskin. He doesn't come close. He does manage to hit R7 once.

Ulgren crosses toward Jake as well, and tries to drop a building on top of R7. The drow is quite satisfied to see a look of pure confusion cross the Baron's face as he looks up just in time to have a Grass Hut crash down upon him.
I gave him this - Ref DC 20 or 5d6 damage and immobilized (str roll to get out)

200 xp bonus to Ulgren

Flea fires another round of Magic Missiles into B6. The constant barrage is finally having an effect, as the beast's skin and eyes become a deadish gray color. Not that its actually stopping or anything.

Grymash launches a nearly insane attack on R8. Both baron and the rapke he rides scream in agony as the half-orc's blade cleaves through them. They both turn into a "not quite dead" color.
"You will join us soon" the rider hisses at him.

Anuk concentrates more on not getting hit again, but still manages to score a hit on B1.

Trellus moves forward and casts a spell. A mess of water appears over R8 and douses him and his mount. The bloodflies descend as he screams "Nooooooooooooooo!".

M3 splashes down R3. It also is quickly consumed.

M1 attacks B8. The manfri hits once.
M2 attacks B5. He hits twice and that bounder becomes "dead".

R2 launches itself at Gilan bear.
It hits with its bite (ac 26), but misses with both claws (8 and 14).
[18 hp dam + Fort save DC 13 or lose 2d6 DEX.]

B1 attacks the bison. It hits with a bite and a claw.
[ac 19, 9, 21 - for 15 hp damage]

B8 attacks m1. It hits with its bite.

B5 attacks m2. It hits with bite and claw. The manfri swoons and its black skin becomes grayer.

B6 gets up.

R7 crawls out from under the Hut. It manages to get free of the house, but is still prone.

Gilan bear rounds on the rapke that attacks him, with murderous intent. Claws and teeth try to find marks upon the things body as he falls into more primal urges.

Ciaran glances around a little as if taking in the scene around him and then dives at the bounder he had tripped up earlier. Jaws snap as he seeks the throat of his enemy...the area that all wolves go for, for the kill.

Grymash jumps backwards shocked by the sudden appearance of the bloodflies. Then he grins with grizzly delight as the baron and his mount are picked clean to the bone by the blood-thirsty creepers. During the short pause to enjoy the spectacle, (wisdom check: 17) he suddenly becomes aware of his own mortality. His large right hand reaches down into his beltpouch and jerks out a cure moderate wounds potion. After biting off the cork and spitting it away, he downs the 'feel good' juice in a single gulp.

(Cure Moderate wounds 2d8+2. First roll had two natural 1's. You're allowed to reroll 1's on cure rolls. Second roll: 13 points of healing.)

Grymash laughs menacingly as the bones of his fly-eaten prey fall to the ground. His excited expression suddenly turns seriously feral again when he spies the other baron charging on Jake. With the dead baron's bones still flaying behind him in a cloud of buzzing bloodflies, Grymash turns and throws the empty potion vial at the other baron's head. A not so sutle message that he should abandon all hope of surviving this day, because he is next!

"Great pick, Ulgren!", calls the brown-haired girl. Dropping a house on the beaters, ha!, she thinks.

Not worrying if its enemy is grey or not, the Celestial Bison shakes its shaggy head and raising on its hind hooves crashes down towards B1 (missing terribly)

Tishe' sees that B1 is engaged by her bison and that Anuk and Jake both have breathing room. Time to get someone back into the fight! She moves forward to stand beside Jake and weaves her hands as if unlacing a complicated knot. Words of power come with it. Targeted Dispel Magic on Jake's paralysis. (DC 23)

Just as the baron's eyes glint with delight and the rapke opens it mouth tear out his throat, a house falls on them! Jake can't quite laugh, but a guttural trill escapes from his throat.
(Two possibilities here.)
1) Jake just continues to stand there, helpless.
2) (if tishe's dispel magic works)
The stiffness leaves his limbs! Suddenly Jake feels light as a feather, and realizes how nice it is to not be numbed by magic. "Thanks, y'all!" he says to his packmates, not sure who did it, but thankful nonetheless. Now to render some payback...
"Anuk, get out some water! Or wine! Or whatever!" Jake calls out, as he rounds the house. He skirts to the left, coming around with his haste spell at an amazing rate, and turns the second corner to see the rapke and its rider crawling out. *SMACK!* Down comes the sword right on the Rapke's head.
(Since it's prone, does it get an AoO on me? I don't know, so I'm gonna assume not. Jake's gonna power attack for 5:)
Unfortunately, for all his excitement and eagerness, the sword bounces off the rapke's armored head with a clang. "Dang, flat side first!" (Hit AC 14)

Ulgren smiles as the house lands firmly on the baron, "Thanks Tishe" the white haired drow says with a slight smile. Ulgren's smile quickly fades as the baron crawls out from under the house. "A house isn't enough to stop you?" Ulgren says shaking his head, disbelief in his dark eyes. The drow mage shakes his head and retrieves a wand from his pocket, raising the wand Ulgren lets a volley of magic missles spring out and strike the prone baron. (damage 10)

Gilan bear turns on R2, biting and slashing at the doomed rapke. Great claws latch onto the beast, pinning it.

Ciaran latches onto the throat of B6. The bounder goes down again.

Grymash maintains enough composure to pull out and drink a healing potion. The barbarian flings the empty in the general direction of R7.

Tishe frees Jake from the Hold Person spell.

Jake flies around the side of the house and slams the downed rapke with the flat of his blade.

Anuk slashes at B1.

Ulgren sends a volley of magic missiles crashing into the downed R7.

Trellus dumps a lot of water on the Baron and rapke as well. Then the floating hammer strikes twice more. It's the last straw. The rapke's skin just barely begins to turn, and the bloodflies are on him. The baron dies screaming.

Flea tries the wand again, but this time the rogue is unable to activate its magic.

M3 pulls out another waterskin as it advances on the bear hugged R2. The manfri sends a spray of water out, catching both Gilan and the rapke. The rapke dissolves in the polar bear's grasp.

M1 leaves B8, and sprays down B5. It dissolves.

M2 pulls away from the fight.

B1 attacks the bison, hitting with its bite and both claws.

B8 attacks Grymash. It misses.

B6 gets up.

The grass outside the sandy bowl shakes slightly, as if many creatures are moving away from the bowl. A cheer goes up from the surrounding manfri.

The golden bison shakes off most of the Bounder's attack [damage reduction] and gets ready to strike the monstrous animal but it is too late. Even as the bison rears to smother the bounder's life, it fades and is gone, the summoning spell is over.

And Tishe' is standing in front of an angry, wine soaked Bounder. Her hands make a quick pass and a pool of grease is under the animal (Reflex DC 16 or fall down)

She wonders if the Tears of the Dragon can help the gray-skinned Mac. As a free action, she tries to send 10 hit points the minotaur's way (loses 30 if sucessful)

Gilan moves in the direction of Gry, a series of snorts and roars coming from him. When he gets close enough he will send healing into the half-orc's body. He gives Gry the equivalent of a smile as he surveys the battleground.

Ciaran continues his hold upon the bounder, flailing as he jerks his body around. He does let go a couple of times just to clamp back down, using his advantage to try and hold the creature on the ground.

Grymash sees the white-haired piggie charging at him. He raises his axe, but no tooth or fang it showed him. Not like the bounder that just tried to bite his head off. So when deciding which one to attack, Grymash instinctively chooses the one with three rows of bloody teeth that's scraping against his steelgrass buckler. "GRRRRR ... BOUUUNDDUURRR!!"

(Full round attack on bounder. Powerattack -7hit/+14dam, twohanded. HitAC: 27, 21, 30 threat/17 crit. Damage: 38+39+38=115. If his AC is 17 or less he takes the extra critical damage: 37+42=79. Possible Grand total: 194.)

The celestial bison disappears, and Tishe reacts the threat by casting a spell. The bounder takes advantage of her lack of attention by snapping at her.

It fails to hit, and soon finds itself lying on its back in a puddle of grease.

[Use of the Tear is a standard action. Tishe cannot do that this round]

Anuk slices B1 again. The bounder isn't dying quickly enough for the ranger's taste.

Gilan bear crosses over to heal the raging barbarian, while Ciaran continues to maul B8.

Grymash turns to regard the unfamiliar white creature behind him, and regards it just long enough for Gilan to start wondering if he's just made a serious error in judgement. Fortunately for him, Gry chooses the bounder. And the things the half-orc does to the creature might cause Gilan to have nightmares for months to come.

Trellus causes his hammer to focus on B1. The hammer does enough damage to bring on the bloodflies, and the bounder is gone.

Circling well out of Grymash's range, M3 pulls out yet another waterskin and destroys B8.

M1 does the same to B6.

There is no one left to fight. A silence hangs over the sandy bowl.

Without another sound, Mac and the manfri (m2) crumple to the sand.

Jake lets the broad blade stick into the ground and leans on it tiredly, his muscles aching slightly now that the battles over. And he looks worriedly to the others. Worried about some of them, he shifts some of his life force to others. (sacrificing 15 hp to give Grymash 5 hp and 15 hp to give 5 hp to Mac) The half-orc might stop raging and die, he realizes, and he hopes he doesn't.
And he watches the Manfri to see whta kinda mourning they do. Frankly, they're still a curious people to him.

Gilan slips back into his human form and gives Gry a smile. "Took a chance big guy to heal you...but it was worth it." He looks to Mac who has just toppled over and turns green. "Seems that I should have been faster to heal him." He makes his way over to the downed minotaur and kneels by him. "I am sorry Mac...I should have known that you needed it more than Gry." His head sinks as he shakes with a series of light sobs.

Ciaran throws back his own head and howls to noone inparticular. It is a mixture of moarning and elation for thier victory. He slowly makes his way over to rest his had upon the shoulder of his brother and look to the minotaur.

Tishe' is the first to reach him and she to kneels near him praying that she did enough to help in bringing the minotaur back. She also pours healing into his inert body with the use of her dragon tear. Gilan reaches the body of the minotaur as well and falls into his own sort of remorse at the loss of a friend, though he is sure that something can be done for him...he just cannot remember what.

Jake drives the point of his sword into the ground as he leans upon it and takes stock of the situation. He pours a little healing into both Gry and Mac. He is hoping to keep Gry from dropping when he falls out of his rage and to maybe help in reviving Mac. Flea stands near Jake and lays a hand upon his arm as he leans upon his sword. Her own eyes are filled with tears as she watches the others around Mac.

Ulgren comes over to kneel at the body of Mac and inquires as to what he has to do and what price needs to be payed to bring back the taur from his state. Trellus turns to the rock and searches out the elder Manfri as he is questioned by Ulgren. He puts in his own plea for them to help in bringing back Mac as they did for him so long ago.

Anuk nearly swoons himself as he sees Mac upon the ground and the others surrounding him. His hand goes to his chest as he pours healing into the body of the minotaur as well. He feels the need to sacrifice as much as possible to bring back the taur that has fought for them so bravely. Grymash stands around looking for more enemies, blood flowing from many wounds and spit dripping from his mouth. He looks to be still in the throws of his beserker rage and has not even noticed that Mac is down yet.

Mac's body makes no signs of moving as all of the healing is poured into him and many start to fear the worst. From out of the crowd of Manfri that stand around, some tending to thier own departed you find the elder Manfri moving forward. He stops near Trellus and looks up into his face. "You save my people...you save yourselves...the cycle is free to continue on for another cycle...respect you must learn to give us or no help you will be getting." He looks to the fallen form of Mac and a smile appears on his withered face and a touch of moisture at his eyes. "This slight I forgive...this time...bravery is to be awarded." He moves over to the body of Mac and looks to those that are gathered around him with some annoyance. "Move you must...no help I can give." When noone moves fast enough for his taste he sets a pair of Manfri to drag each person away. These people are strong despite thier small size and frail appearance.

The elder Manfri plants his staff in the ground near Mac's head and then lowers his gaze to look down. Another series of four Manfri females move forward to stand around the body of Mac as well. The minutes go by as the downed Manfri is also brought to lay near Mac's body. Each of the four females stab a two foot staff into the ground, carved in symbols and designs of nature...of life and death. As the elder Manfri starts a slow chant, the four females take it up...each one slightly after the other to form a nice harmony. The little whistles attached to the staves near the females, move as if caught in a light wind and play a counter point to the chant by the five Manfri. Time seems to slow and in fact you notice that noone moves in all the time that the chanting is going one...a lone locust flying by inches through the air. A green light travels up and down the four staves and then finally pours into the ground and moves in the direction of Mac and the Manfri body. It flows up into them and surrounds them..fusing with them till they are blinding to the eyes. Finally the chant ends and the little whistles come to a stop to lay against the staves, silent. The locust gains a sudden burst of speed and is soon gone into the surrounding grasses...everything seems to be returned to normal.

The Manfri on the ground stands up first, if not a little slowly, shaking off the last dregs of the death he had experienced. He is greated by the cheers and tears of those Manfri around the circle. Mac's eyes open as well and he looks up into the aged wrinkles eyes of the elder Manfri, who nods to him. "You will be weak for a day...stay with us you all will...celebrate our two people will for the life we are given." Two of the females move forward and the elder Manfri leans upon them for support...seeming spent his energy in the task that he has just completed. The other two collect the staves and stash them quickly in grass blankets and disappear. The elder Manfri looks back and smiles weakly. "Come...our village prepares a feast." He leads the group to the remote village that few have been to of the Manfri.

Mac - All of your stats are halved for the time being and only a full nights rest will leave you feeling better. You will also have all the hitpoints that were poured into you though, unless it surpases your max.

The small woman stares uncomprehendingly at the Elder's words, and has to be dragged away without resistance. She is thinking of another battle, another time when Mac lay lifeless, a time when Gargul searched her soul to see if she had done all she could to help. It worries her that she could have given the big taur healing through the Tear earlier, mayhap saving his life if she had only been quicker...

The ceremony is awe inspiring, and Tishe' rises with happy tears to plant careful hugs and tearful kisses on the Elder Manfri ("You sweetie!"), the Manfri who was gray("Thank you for standing with us"), and on Mac. She doesn't leave Machastai's side for the short trek to the Manfri village.

And as she gets her emotions back under control, her mind starts working again. "The cycle for one more cycle? Trellus, what does he mean? The Bounder-Rapke- and such cycle you've told me about or something more?"

Gilan follows along with the rest of the group as the Manfri head out to go to their village. Ciaran is right at his side though Gilan seems to lean a little upon his brother. He still feels the effects of having his ability to move sucked out of his body. The wolf looks up at him and whines. Gilan rubs his head and speaks lightly to the wolf. "Do not worry brother...the effects should fade with a nights rest." He does not seem too worried but he feels more sluggish than he has ever felt before.

Finally the grass is pushed to the side and the long trek is over. You stand in a large circle of two inch high grass with small huts positioned all around it. Near the middle of the village is a large fire going, that seems to give off no smoke, and the smells of cooking assault your senses.

The elder turns to the group and gives a little smile as he waves his hands out to encompass the whole village. "Honored guest of Manfri...eat and sleep without worry." He then moves off and slips into one of the huts but does not come back out. He had seemed really tired after the ceremony that he performed earlier and you suspect is going to get some rest.

Another Manfri, the one that did not fall in the battle, steps up to Trellus and in broken common speaks. "Elder say yours...for...errr...help." He lays a small grass sack in your hands and then moves off to get himself a plate of stewed grass and a biscuit.

Eight Manfri females come forward and usher you towards the fires and food. Many of the others point at you and stare, whispering to themselves. You get the feeling that you are both honored guest and curiousity to all of them.

Trellus' face flushes with shame as the elder Manfri reprimands him. He's been away from home too long.

"You are right, master," he replies to the manfri. "I was being sunbaked. I offer my apology for any offense."

Still the cleric can't help but beam in surprised pleasure as the small dudes bring Mac back from the brink of Gargul's domain.
"Welcome back, dude," he says to the minotaur. "You'll need to move easy today, trust me.

The invitation to the village is another surprise.
Village? I thought they'd be in the rocks.

In answer to Tishe, Trellus replies, "I think they have to go through this every couple of years. I don't know how far apart the cycles are."

The blond man stares at the village.
"How do you keep the grass back?" is out of his mouth before he can even think.
Dude, they've been living here forever. They probably know stuff the monks haven't even thought of yet.

Trellus accepts the bag, and passes it over to Tishe, Ulgren and Flea.
"Can you dudes identify this stuff?"

Kind of liked the idea of a hidden village that they live in. It is protected from the outside and all so it cannot be found without the help of a Manfri. The rocks thing is for extreme cases when they need better protection from the Barons. At least that has been my idea of them...kind of like the pygmies use to do.

Jake goes along with the others and looks at the grass sacks. Interesting. "Oh, hey, you weren't with us last time, were you? We helped tha cycle along, and saved this big ol' Sargrass Moth from being killed...wouldja believe it was born from these big old rapke coccoons! Yah! pretty interestin'..." Jake pauses, "Hey, ma'am!" He calls to one of the Manfri ushering them along. "Ah don't suppose you have any glass grass, do you?" He grins widely.

Ulgren's eyes open wide with surprise as he enters the Manfri village. Unsure of what to say the white haired drow remains quiet until Trellus hands his the grass bag. "I can identify six items tomorrow." Ulgren looks at Tishe and Flea but I can tell you what items are magical tonight." Ulgren then walks to the fires and grabs a plate of stew and bisquits. "Thank you." the drow says simply to any and all of the Manfri.

He hangs back from the crowd and consigns himself to the shadows. He sits in a dark corner and wipes down his weapon and armor that's still covered in blood.

These, she will point out to Ulgren and Tishe' so they can weave their greater magics.

"Glass grass?" Anuk's ears perk up when Jake mentions the delicious drink. "Ice wine is okay, but I think I could really use a belt of glass grass about now." His mouth waters in anticipation.

As the pack settles in, Anuk looks to the sky and around the village for any indication of just where in the plains they might be. (survival 26). Finally, he screws up the courage to ask one of the elder manfri when the time seems right. "Uh...sir..." he stammers. "We've been a little lost out here...Any idea how many days from Rattledam we are?...and...uh...which direction it might be...uh...in?"

Gilan looks to the village and smiles as his mouth starts to water. "Sure looks good." He will move when they are invited to have a little food. He fills up a wooden platter with an assortment of foods and then move off to the side as the group goes about thier business. He feeds bits of meat to Ciaran who is happily lying at his brothers feet.

Gilan looks up as some ask questions and then smiles at the idea of glass wine. He does not drink often but he could go for a drink right about now.

Trellus, not thinking really inquires about the grass and how they keep it out of this small village. He then takes the grass bag and hands it over to Tishe', Ulgren and Flea to have a look at. He then moves off to get a little food.

Jake talks on as he moves in the direction of food. After taking a little bit of this and that he thinks of something and gets one of the Manfri woman's attention. He inquires about some glass grass.

Ulgren is surprised to say the least by the village. He keeps quiet till he is give the bag with the stuff in it. He casts a simple spell to tell what is magical and what is not. He does grab a little food to take with him so that he can work in sort of peace with the others.

Grymash broods for most of the night. For some reason he just seems angry and secludes himself from the rest of the group as he goes about cleaning weapon and armor.

Mac picks at his food and checks on Galea, making sure that she is fed and taken care of. He does not seem to be feeling chipper, but dying can do that to you, so he turns in early for the night.

Flea moves off with Ulgren, getting herself some food to take with her, and pours over the loot. She appraises some of it as she also casts a simple spell upon the goodies.

Anuk is quick to pick up on the glass grass comment and would not mind a nip himself. He tries to discern their location from the sky and then breaking down he asks one of the passing Manfri.

Gilan moves on over and fills up with some of the tasty goodies that are layed out for all to eat. He makes sure to get more than enough for his brother Ciaran as well. As they sit eating he finds himself wishing for a little bit of glass grass.

One of the Manfri stops to look at Anuk with a wide grin upon his face. He pats his chest and speaks. "Osaku...apprentice to the Speaker...you met me before when you first fought with us." The smile upon his face tells you that he has not forgotten that day or the debt that both people owes the other. "You home is that way." He points in what would be a generally southeast direction. He takes a seat upon the ground and nods his head. "Seems fate brought our...packs...together again." He had stopped to hunt for that last word as if he was not sure. He gets the attention of one of the female Manfri and says a few short words to her in what must be their own language.

The female smiles and then races off to return about five minutes later with a large pitcher with liquid in it. As she pours some into a glass you notice that it is rainbow in color, it actually has every color of the rainbow in it. She then hands the glass to Anuk and then pours another for Jake.

Osaku smiles as he gets himself a glass and takes a sip. "This is why we have abandoned the caves...to harvest a grass that only grows this time of year...in this exact place." He seems to be savoring the dirnk and sipping it slowly. "What do you think?"

The drink is really strong and may go to your head fast if you do more than sip it(Fort DC 16 or get drunk on it and pass out in 1d3 rounds). The liquor is not bitter in anyway, in fact it is lightly flavored with a sweet earthy flavor.

Ulgren scans the gathering until he spots Trellus, "I am going to retire. I can identify six of the magical items tomorrow if you wish, however that will leave me without access to any of my armour spells for a day of traveling." Ulgren shrugs slightly, if we stay here for through tomorrow and leave the day after I can identify everything and we can all rest and recover." Ulgren waits for the clerics answer and then asks one of the hosts where he can sleep for the night.

"Osaku, is it? Well, it's a pleasure ta meetcha again, little buddy! Ah remember y'all from the last time. So, what is this?" He takes a sniff and examines it puzzledly. "It sure don't look like glass grass, but from yer expression, it's better..." Jake takes a sip, lightly tasting. "WOooooooEeee! That is sumtin, allright!" He takes nice little gulp appreciatively, and grins, "This here's better'n glass grass, it's... er..." The half-elf looks at it closely. "Rainbow grass? Ah ain't never heard of nothing like it. Sure is swell, though. Ah ken understand yer coming out fer this stuff."
Jake proceeds to try to draw the friendly rapke into a good discussion of where to find this rainbow glass, and also, where the best glass grass is. He has his own theories, but he's always willing to learn from outsiders.

He sniffs at the remainder in his glass and asks, "Is there only rainbow grass in here, or do I taste a hint of piggie essence?"

At Ulgren's question, the cleric looks over at Mac. Recalling his own experience after the Kall'a'tek, Trellus is fairly certian the minotaur isn't going to feel like doing much walking for awhile.

He almost absentmindedly takes the drink from the young Manfri as he considers the options.
"That way, huh?" he repeats, pointing in the same direction Osaka did. "Many shadows. Any idea how far?"

The next question was supposed to be "Can we stay another day?"

However, the blond man hasn't been paying a lot of attention to the glass he just took.
And he takes a very large swallow just prior to his question, so that what comes out is,

Trellus quietly slumps down into dreamland.

With the scent of Glass Grass in the air, he decides to pull out his green-painted keg of "Red Wyurm Inn brand" Green Gnomish. He sits there refilling his cup and throwing it back. He decides this is a good time as any to get drunk and forget his problems. He wont deny anyone a cup full either. He drinks until he passes out or until his keg empties, whichever comes first.

Gilan gets himself a glass of the strange wine and sips at it as he eats. He listens to the younger Manfri as he talks and then yawns light, but tries to hide it behind his hand. He smiles at Trellus and sighs. "I think what he wanted to know is...how soon do we need to leave."

Ciaran has fallen asleep at his brothers feet. His tummy full of good food and dreams of chasing females in his head he kicks and whines in his sleep.

Those that are worried about it are shown to a tiny hut so that they can sleep. You notice that most of the Manfri seem to stay out and sleep under the stars. You get the feeling that they way they look at the sky it is not a common thing for them.

Osaku smiles as the pack seems to enjoy the little delight that his people have given to them. "It is indeed rainbow wine...a lot more powerful than the normal wines made from the grass but also more rare. It is used as a celebration drink...mostly after one of these little fights." He takes a long drink that makes you wonder just how well these little men can hold their liquor. "This is actually the pure stuff...the only additive is fresh morning dew that we collect from the rainbow grass itself." With a mischievious smile he adds the last bit as if it is nothing important. "And the feet of our virgins to crush it." He was about to reply to Trellus's maybe question when the blonde man tipped over. "It would be about two weeks travel through the grass...maybe more if you cannot move through it too well."

Grymash drinks himself into a stupor and then falls asleep with a full mug tightly in his sleeping grip. The Manfri females move around to cover up those that fall asleep with grass blankets, making sure that everyone is comfortable.

Flea finds the little stick to be to her liking but she has to search it over to see if she can tell anything about it. She figures it to be a wand of somekind but she is not sure what type. Then she finds what appears to be three wavy lines near one end of it.

With a yawn of his own Osaku stands and moves off to get his own bedroll ready. He looks back to the group and then smiles. "We will stay camped here for another four days...then we return to the caves." His face looks to the stars and he shakes his head.

Tishe' has moved off and is talking to some of the Manfri females who seem to be taking an interest in the young woman. Anyone that ventures close enough to hear will find them talking about the Plains and Manfri customs.

Just so everyone knows. When the pack moves out Tishe' will be staying behind for awhile. She will join back up as soon as more internet time is available to her player.

Ulgren thanks the Manfri for the grass hut and quickly lays out his blanket. The exhausted drow falls asleep before his head hits the ground. Ulgren wakes early the next morning and spends a quiet hour in contemplation and study. Ulgren stands, streches and goes looking for the sack of magical items to be identified. Once everyone is assembled Ulgren looks at Trellus, "Which items do you want identified?" Ulgren then casts identify on the six items designated by the pack.

"Y'know...one thing ah'm wondering about, this grasssteel stuff. Ah don't suppose, ya see, this full plate stuff is too heavy and hot for the plains, and slows me down. Can ah, ah dunno, trade it ta ya for some great armor? Sometime?" Jake scratches his head, thinking. After finding out, Jake gets his own little mat, wishing idly that the manfri girls were big enough for him to play with. Well... Not that they aren't cute enough as it is, but something's weird about going further with that thinking for the human warrior.

Trellus wakes up with a headache, and no clear recollection of what happened once they entered the small village.
Light, he thinks. Thats some good wine.

The blond man uses Ulgren's question as an opportunity to collect his thoughts. He can act like he's carefully pondering the question to cover for the fact he's still trying to figure out what day it is.

"Uh, we recovered just the one wand right? So, its probably the one that treadle used on Jake. And the potion we can mess with later. How 'bout you weave your picks on the rest of the stuff?"

Flea thinks that she just might be too tired to pick up any auras off the items, and therefore gives up trying. She arrives late, and scavenges what food remains. The gnome actually avoids the drink that seems to stupify her comrades, and stays on the fringes of the celebration. Her thoughts turn to the gnome conjurer left behind in Ice Vein.

Flea decides to make like the manfri and sleep under the stars. For a long time she lies looking at the stars, her bedroll spread out under her, her head on her pack, and her Cloak of Comfort spread over her for warmth, and, well, comfort. Eventually dreamless sleep overtakes her.

(OOC: Any hints on the number of different magical auras and the powers? The strength, etc.?)

Gilan awakens the next morning before the breaking of the sun. Ciaran is also up as soon as his brother moves and they both move to a area a little ways away from the main part of the village.

As he sits he watches the sun slowly rise over top of the grass and then begins a morning song to Mother Wold. Ciaran is quick to join in with his brother adding his howls to his brother's voice.

When at last his morning prayers are done he moves back into the village and finds that a small morning breakfast is waiting for him and Ciaran near thier bedroll. They both eat thier respective lunches and then lay out in the grass to soak up some sun.

For those that woke early that morning the might notice the glint of light off of a small section of grass. As the sun grows a little higher it starts to spread a rainbow across the short trimmed grass. Many of the Manfri are already working around the grass, digging up the bladders and also taking some of the grass itself.

Trellus lets Ulgren know that he should work with the other stuff and hold out on the stick till last. It is most likely the one used by the grassbeater upon Jake so well and he could hazard a guess as to it's type.

Ulgren nods and falls into his work with his spells to look over the few items that he has to identify. Though it will take him several hours the work is not altogether that hard and he seems to enjoy it. Some younger Manfri children stop to watch him for some ten minutes before going back to kicking a ball made of grass around.

Mac falls into his own little private world and lays on the grass with Galea sitting on his chest. The little kitten kneeds him a few times and then settles in for a little rest. Mac just lets himself drift along with the day...glad to be alive and getting to feel better.

Gilan goes through his morning prayer ritual with Ciaran at his side and is soon back at his meal. He too lays out in the sun of the Plains with very little on. It seems a good excuse to soak in some rays and just to relax.

Jake catches Osaku and talks to him about steelgrass. The little man looks over the armor that Jake has and touches it lightly as he ponders. You can see a little gleam to his eyes as he looks over the armor and then nods his head. "Maybe able to trade...have to talk to elders." He soon leaves Jake to talk to the elders and see if they might be interested in this armor that the young man has.

Flea finds that her mind is able to finally get back to the work on the little trinkets from the other night. She had been distracted by a certain little gnome in a very cold land. That night she dreams of running with that same gnome along the streets of some advanced city and dancing the nights away.

Grymash can be heard off to the side where he passed out the night before, snoring like a herd of stampeding giants. He still has not gotten up when the sun is about a quarter the way in the sky.

Jake - Let me do some checking and make sure that Steelgrass is official.

Gilan will have a go at that potion as well to see if he can help out. He succeeds with a 25 on the nose. :)

Anuk awakes slowly, the stifling heat of the day beginning to drift over him. He smiles, glad just to be alive after the fight yesterday.

Blinking slowly he suddenly thinks, "Twinge?" He sits up and scrambles to find his pack, but the viper's not in it. "Hunh...musta gone out to find some breakfast," he mumbles. "Maybe I oughta do the same."

He takes a little time to finish waking and do a little meditating (prepares entangle and longstrider). Then he notices the rainbow grass. He watches the manfri to see what they're doing then offers, "Need a little help?" If they accept, he digs in and does what he can to help them harvest the stuff.

Mac awakens slowly, his body still recovering from the activity of the day before.

As he becomes more aware of the scene about him he senses the warmth and weight of the sleeping Galea on his chest. That prompts a smile from the taur. He gently places the kitten in her cage to continue her rest, and leaves it open.

Not yet hungry, he spends some time cleaning (wiping the dried fluid and flesh from) his axe before practicing some sparring, manoeuvres and strikes against non-existant targets.

Ulgren works quietly and efficiently as he prepares and casts Identify on each of the items in turn. Ulgren casts the spell and then waves his hand over the item. "chain shirt of light fortification +2, chain shirt +1, composite shortbow of shock +1, shortbow +1, gloves of dexterity +2, and ring of protection +1," Ulgren says with a slight flourish to Trellus as he points to each of the items in turn. "Hope that helps." Ulgren then turns his attention to the grass harvesting Manfri, "May I help?"

Jake scratches his head. "Ah don't thank any of them sound all that useful to me, excepting ah'm looking for lighter armor, that stuff seems awfully too light for me. Maybe. And as ta them other stuff, ah'm guessing flea could use 'em gloves first. Ah've taken too much treasure of late, it seems, so ah'll hold back from the group's pool, y'all."
(Jake has taken several magic items when we divied up stuff in the past, so here's a case where I think I'll be better off letting others get more stuff)

Gilan kneels down by Trellus, Flea and Ulgren as they discuss the treasure. He has a wooden plate with some breakfast on it that he is currently eating. "I was also going to ask about brewing a few potions as we have a little time." He looks to Trellus and then drops a large piece of meat to Ciaran. "I was wondering what would be most useful to the group?" He takes a mouthful of food and chews it as he thinks.

Ciaran chews on the piece of meat that he was just given. He seems happy as he lays on the trimmed grass and watches the goings on.

Anuk wakes in the morning to the stifling heat of the mornings on the Plains. He is happy to be alive but soon turns to thoughts of his viper that he does not see. Soon out of the grass comes a viper that has a couple of noticable bulges in it's body.

Mac is slower to awaken in the morning, still recovering from his experiences the day before. The first thing he becomes aware of is the light weight on his chest and that is when he notices little Galea. He gently places her in her little cage but leaves it open so that she can explore at her leisure. He then goes about cleaning his axe this morning having failed to do it the night before.

Ulgren makes quick work of the items and then points each out to Trellus when he gets him to come over. He feels rather proud of his efforts to help the group out and then turns his attention to other things.

Flea wakes up later in the morning just relishing the fact that she can take the time to relax and just dream about a certain little gnome. Upon waking she moves over to watch Ulgren work upon the items they had found. Unknowingly she fiddles with the few gems that were found.

Trellus is quick to come over as Ulgren calls to him and he listens as the drow goes over the items that they have found. He nods and then turns to Flea who is fiddling with the gems anyways and asks to see if she would like to have a go at the gems or not.

Jake wakes and eats a light breakfast this morning having eaten a little too much last night. He does little to Ulgren as he names off the items but declines anything as he cannot see anything of use. He is also waiting to see what the Manfri have to say about that steelgrass armor. He does suggest that the gloves maybe useful to Flea if she would be interested.

Gilan has come back from his morning absolutions and sits in a kneeling position, eating a small portion of breakfast. His brother is right beside him chewing on a piece of meat that he had been given by Gilan. As he listens to the group he just shrugs as nothing is really of interest to him and others could use some of those items more than him. He does make another suggestion since it appears they will be here for awhile.

The Manfri move amongst the small bit of rainbow grass and welcome the help of the pack. They are quick to show you the correct method in gathering up the bladders and the special sponges they whipe the grass with to collect the dew. Only the tenderest of rainbow grass is taken to be added to the fine wine that will be produced. As the heat of the early morning starts to press the harvest is stopped and the Manfri retire to work on producing the actual wine from the grass, bladders and dew.

You find that Tishe' has joined the Manfri women at a small circle that is weaving grassbags and blankets. She seems to be doing rather well in her efforts to produce what they are doing with the grass. You also notice that others are sitting off to the side crushing certain grasses to make what you think are dyes of different colors.

Then some large barrel buckets are set up in the middle of the temporary village. Several Manfri appear with an assortment of odd instruments and begin to play what is most likely music. It is mellow like these little people and soothing to your nerves, it almost lulls you to sleep. A dozen Manfri females appear wearing next to nothing that step into the large barrels as the stuff for the rainbow wine is dumped in. What can only be called a dance soon begins as the women dance in time to the music, dipping and bobbing as the dance around in the tubs.

Still waiting for the go ahead on the Steelgrass Armor. I am pretty sure that it is ready to go but do not want to jump too far ahead.

We will be having the equivalent of four days of rest in the temporary Manfri village. Anyone that wants to take the time to work on anything they will have some time.

"Gems?" Flea repeats the word, and her eyes clear of their reverie like the sun cutting through the early morning cloud.

"Sure thing, Trellus," volunteers the gnome. Flea sets the gems out, sorting them according to colour, cut and clarity. The rogue gives them a thorough going over as she attempts to estimate their value. (Appraise=19)

Ulgren proceeds to help the Manfri harvest their Rainbow grass and manages to lose himself in the heat of the day as he works. Just Prior to night fall the drow sets his canvas in order to provide some entertainment for the camp. Ulgren casts Dancing lights to illuminate the top of the edges of the canvas stage and prestigitation to create color, sound and shapes for the enjoyment of all to see. Afterwards the drow seeks out Trellus and speaks with him in private, "I know I am new to this pack," the drow begins hesitation in his voice, "but may I ask, if its all right with everyone of course," the mage continues, "I could use the ring of protection that was given to us. If not I understand. Goodnight Trellus" Ulgren then leaves Trellus alone to ponder his request.

"Looks like you had a good meal there, Twinge," Anuk grins. He watches at the viper goes off to sun himself and then returns to his work, helping the manfri with the harvest and spending a little more time with Ulgren. "So, did the monks keep you piggie farming much in Rattledam? I can't count how many times those bright handed beaters have sent me out to haul back piggie manure for someone's garden."

At Ulgren's request for the ring, Anuk chimes in with, "Sounds good to me If you use it...I know my ring has helped me get through a few scrapes. Me? Well...I've got my eye on this bow here." He picks up the short bow of shock and gives it the once over, intrigued by the sensation of electricity that runs through him while he holds it.

"Dude, there ain't no 'new' or 'old'. You're part of the pack now, and that's all we need to know."

"OK, ring to Ulgren. Shocking bow to Anuk. Once Flea gets a price on these gems, we can cash in and divvy up the rest."

Trellus watches the harvesting of the rainbow grass, but doesn't trust himself to handle the plants. He remembers Anuk and that Glass Grass incident....

At Gilan's question, he pauses.
"I dunno, Gil," he answers slowly. "I'd be interested in something that could make me fly, or at least move through the Grass faster."

Jake takes it easy in his time to relax amongst the manfri. If there are any really tall girls, that are particularly attractive, he might even consider learning a bit of the local customs, so to speak...
For the most part, he probably busies himself with lazing around, goofing off, and swapping tales. Given nothing else to do, he actually spends some time trying to get a few words in manfri down...
(Figuring I could start learning Manfri, maybe take it as a langugae if we hanged out with them long enough).
