Thadius and Thalpius

DM Bob and Carla  d20+15=35
Thursday December 1st, 2005 12:17:59 AM

Brahmah sees only the two medium sized fey in the dawning morning, but none the less he takes precautions. Flat-Top and Toros quietly wake their sleeping companions. Gecktar and Ban move very carefully, lest they tip off the visitors.

Looking over the shoulder of his companion who has his back turned to the party, one of the fey creatures spots the party leader with a bead on him. Jumping up he yells out in common, "Thadius! They mean to kill us!" His companion joins him, turning 'round to face the party. "Please don't eat us," he says, wringing his hands nervously.

Brahmah
Thursday December 1st, 2005 4:07:18 AM

Brahmah puts away his bow and approaches the fey. "I will not kill or eat, you have my word and my Honor."

The minotaur moves slowly, hands off his weapons.

Brahmah isn't sure if they are true satyrs or not, but he figures diplomacy might be best. How would he talk with these friends of nature.
"We are not from around here. We are trying to get to The Culverwood..." He looks at Zeoll for confirmation of this fact. "... can you show us deep into the wood?"

Zeoll  d20+20=37
Thursday December 1st, 2005 6:23:32 AM

Zeoll is slow to wake (oops! missed a post! sorry).

But when he is alert, he hears the Captain's words and understands that Brahmah sees an opportunity to save a lot of time. If these creatures can act as guides, then the Chosen won't need to go to the Crescent Valley at all.

Zeoll slowly stands and calls out to the two creatures, "Hello! Don't be afrraid! We don't eat people. We don't mean to kill anybody. We arre just rready to prrotect ourrselves, herre in this land of giantkin."

"We arre trravelerrs seeking guides thrrough the Culverrwood, as ourr Captain herre has said. We arre looking forr one orr two good-hearrted people who can brring us safely thrrough the grreat forrest."

Zeoll sees that these creatures seem half human and half goat, and that jogs his memory. "Do you rrememberr, Flat-top, when we met a crreaturre much like this, on Centaurr Isle, who was too fond of wine? His name was Sarrgoasso." It seems clear to Zeoll that these fey creatures are Satyrs and not Gnoats. (I'll assume the DMs' use of the word "fey" several times means that the distinction is obvious to us?)

"You and I alone of the Chosen rrememberr those days."

Turning back to the fey, Zeoll says, "I do not know if we have any wine, but we can pay with coin and song if you would consent to escorrt us thrrough the magical woods. Can you help us?"

[OOC: Diplomacy check 37]

Flat-top
Thursday December 1st, 2005 7:57:51 AM

Flat-top stand there Smiling at the Satyrs, to Zeoll he whispers to him,"Yes! I remember! that one drank all my wine! Speaking of wine I happen to take two wine skins full with me before we left our Island. For an emergency of course!"

"Ofcourse we don't eat people, I'm a Center and Brhmah here is and his friends there are Minotaurs, we are Vegies we don't eat meat. BUT Zoell Here and his frinds over there Toros and Ban are Liontaurs, They eat meat.

If you are little nervues, I have here a little bit of wine from Centaur vinards. Would you want some??" Flat-top asks.

OOC: See Cayzle I told you Flat-top was a dumb Fighter, He now puts himself up to be trample on.

DM Bob and Carla
Friday December 2nd, 2005 12:52:51 AM

The two satyrs cower together when the dominating black furred leader of the party speaks to them. But when he mentions the Culverwood and asks it they would venture that way, and Zeoll asks if they would act as 'guides', the two fellows look at each other and then back at Brahmah their eyes sparkling.

When Zeoll speaks of gold, and song, and then Flat-Top makes an offer of wine, the satyr's faces split with grins that spread from ear to ear. "We can show you the Culverwood" volunteers the one who seems a little older, by virtue of a small goatee, "but where, exactly, do you wish to go?" That one drops a small log of dead wood on the fire while the younger of the two closes in on Brahmah, and in a conspiratorial voice, whispers hopefully, "hey, dad, there aren't any women with you, are there?"

The pale morning light sparkles on the river and starts to take the chill off the air. Birds sing a chorus in the trees on the other side of the water.

Brahmah
Friday December 2nd, 2005 2:17:13 AM

Brahmah eases his posture and smiles. "Sorry, all of our females abandoned us." He frowns, remembering Rill, the beautiful magic user.

"As for destination, I can never remember where we're going. Zeoll?" He smiles.

Ban Maeve
Friday December 2nd, 2005 2:31:08 AM

Sensing the trouble is past, Ban relaxes his grip on the bow and eases back into his catnap after just a few minutes (assuming no trouble is going to be had here).

Flat-top
Friday December 2nd, 2005 6:10:34 AM

"Yeah! We had a beautiful Fillie, traveling with us. But when we earned a little bit of treasure and split it nine ways. She went Shopping." Said Flat-top, here he pours some wine for the Satyrs, "Now I ask you! Why woutd a Centaur need Four Sets of Shoes? We only have four hooves?"

Flat-op offers some wine to the rest of his gang, "Any body else wants some wine? this is the last skin on hand."

Gecktar
Friday December 2nd, 2005 4:26:01 PM

Gecktar relaxes when he sees than his fellows have a firm grip on the sitution.

"If I remember well, we're seeking the many eyed... In his deep cavern..."

"Does t means something to you ?"
asks Gecktar.

Then he realises immediatly than saying 'could you guide us to your death' would have meant the same...

Zeoll
Friday December 2nd, 2005 9:05:33 PM

"Yes, as my frriend Gecktarr says, we seek a something with many eyes that lives underrground in the forrest of monsterrs. What do you think?"

Zeoll thanks Flat-top for the wine and sits to enjoy the vintage.

"By the way," the liontaur says to the fey, "my name is Zeoll. What arre your names? And you won't turrn into a giant flying purrple thing if you drrink ourr wine, now, will you?"

The wemic is smiling but is curious about that.

Flat-top
Saturday December 3rd, 2005 6:05:11 AM

Flat-top pours wine for Zeoll and GeCktar, reminding him. "Remember a week or so ago, my friend? I bought you a taur size mirror? I bought one for every taur here, that for the many Eyes of the enermy! I have a feeling that it will come in handy."
"Not to change the subject, but what do you think of these Satyrs? We did not dream about them! So they are not Chosen! I wonder if they are any good in playing the Pan Pipes? What do you think?" ask Flat-top.

Ban Maeve  d20=10
Saturday December 3rd, 2005 1:25:35 PM

Ban still lies where he is, listening. something just doesn't seem right and it's keeping him awake. how could these satyrs be 30' away and not notice a large group of taurs? and how could a large group of taurs not notice creatures 30 away? something isn't adding up here, and it makes him very suspicious. He keeps his hand by his bow just in case there's trouble and he turns his head around looking for other creatures.

OOC: rolled an unmodified 10 for spot (my computer died yesterday and i currently have no access to Ban's character sheet, thus no modifier. i hope to take care of it soon, though my posting may be slightly affected).

Toros
Sunday December 4th, 2005 5:01:48 PM

Toros gives a big smile to the chosen's new accompanies, showing all his sharp yellow teeth.

DM Bob & Carla
Sunday December 4th, 2005 9:45:51 PM

"My name is Thadius," says the satyr with the little goatee, as open hand on furred chest he inclines his head. Looking up, he continues, "and this is my brother, Thalpius. And, no. We do not turn purple!" Thalpius smiles and accepting Flat-Top's wineskin from Zeoll, takes a little swig. "Too bad about the females," he says. Thadius continues, "we have witnessed many changes in nature since the return of Ebyron," he touches his over-large curly horns and his eyes get a far away look. Flat-Top and Zeoll notice the features that make them satyrs are too-large and out of proportion. Their hooves and goat legs are almost twice the normal size, and the horns on the sides of their heads would be hunter trophies if they were found on wild sheep.

Thadius' eyes clear, and he looks at Brahmah, Gektar, the grinning Toros and the dozing Ban Maeve, "yes...many changes in nature. When we saw you make camp last night, we thought you might be some new creature. You look like kin." Thalpius passes the wineskin to his brother, and picks up the tale, "we saw no fire, so we thought we might make one for you, in order to cook breakfast. A surprise in the morning!" Thadius passes the skin to Brahmah, adding "then you scared us!"

Moving closer to the fire Thadius answers some of the questions, "there are many caves in the Culverwood, and lots of monsters and other interesting creatures too. Dunno' about a creature with many eyes though. What about you, Thalpius?" Crouching and poking at the buring wood, the satyr says, "we can tell you some things about the forest over breakfast, but you might have to talk to the Greenmage or someone else about this many-eyed creature.

Ban doesn't see anything that would cause him or the party to be concerned, but he does notice (Spot=23) the sun glinting off some rapidly moving rainbow hued fishes in the calm water beyond the beach.

Flat-top
Monday December 5th, 2005 8:09:35 AM

Flat-top answers the Question about greenwitch, "We use to have one with us, Hmmm! I forgoten her name now, But she ran away with that Centaur who was always in a library reading scrolls. I miss her?? No I don't She alway was saying 'don't hurt that tree!! and don't step on the grass you might kill it!!, and Don't start a fire with green wood, just dead wood!! But some times I miss her, she was a good dancer."

Brahmah
Monday December 5th, 2005 9:57:25 AM

The ranger looks at the fey seriously. "I stopped eating your kind long ago."

He approaches the fey's fire and sit down and smiles. "We appreciate your help."

The thought about the Greenmage reminds Brahmah of Kanchana, who left just weeks ago.
However the 'many eyed creature' bothers him. Sounds like a beholder or something. He thinks to himself.

Zeoll
Monday December 5th, 2005 11:21:43 AM

Given the fauns' preoccupation with the fairer sex, and the obvious growth out of proportion of certain parts of their anatomy, Zeoll cannot help but wonder about the extent to which these developments have affected the fey creatures' ... uh ... concupiscence. But the smiling liontaur looks the satyrs in the eyes (and no lower) and puts aside his curiousity in favor of diplomacy.

"Thadius, Thalpius, it is a grreat pleasurre to meet you." When the fey mentions that the Chosen look like kin, Zeoll's eyes light up. "It has been a theory of mine that there are more taurrs kin to us than just the minotaurs, centaurrs, and liontaurrs. We rrecently met a perrson who looked like a cousin of yours -- he said he was a gnoat ... a kind of goat-taurr. His name was Masterr Grrith." Zeoll wonders if the name will ring a bell.

And when the satyr mentions asking a greenmage for advice, Zeoll cannot help but feel a little sad. "I bet Kanchana would have loved to see this forrest," he murmurs.

To the fauns he says, "As I am a drruid myself, I would be pleased to meet this grreenmage of whom you speak. We would apprreciate his orr herr advice."

"Should we settle the deal of how much we will offerr you forr guiding us? Maybe a gold piece a day each, with a sharre in ourr food and prrotection, such as we can offerr, frrom the dangerrs we might meet? And a prromise that you will not leave us until we arre once again out of the wood?""

Gecktar
Monday December 5th, 2005 11:50:17 AM

"And I would appreciates your breakfast if it's still time..." adds Gecktar to the two fauns.

"What do I have to eat here..." he says looking in his bag in search of something to prepare for the group.

Ban Maeve  d20+6=12
Monday December 5th, 2005 6:11:48 PM

Ban, sensing no danger and seeing fish, decides that he will try to provide some breakfast for the group. He rises and quickly moves to the river's edge, then pounces towards the fish, fearless of the water.

OOC: rolled 12 for a survival check.
also, thanks to yahoo i discovered that i had a copy of my CS in the sent folder from just a few days ago. it is good that not all was lost....

DM Bob and Carla
Tuesday December 6th, 2005 12:06:12 AM

Ban Maeve studies the fishes and soon is able to catch enough for himself and Zeoll before the fishes move to another part of the pool away from the wemic's sharp claws. Gecktar volunteers to help with breakfast and checks his pack for rations. The finely tanned leather of the pack holds far more than its modest size would lead one to believe, but it doesn't contain any provisions. (OOC: no trail rations listed on your CS!)

Thadius looks askance at Brahmah when he makes his little joke, "you folks vegetarians then?" he questions making a little face as he fishes around in a bag that hangs over his shoulder by a long strap. The satyr pulls out some apples and nuts, and a bag of some ground mixed grains. Thalpius rummages around the camp and asks for a pot or cauldron. Shaking his head he returns to Thadius with Flat-Top's large metal shield. The smell of crispy cooked fish wafts through the air as the satyr shows the minotaur cleric how to mix the grains with a little water to make a dough which he winds around a stick in a curlicue. "Hold this over the fire to bake. It will make a kind of bread."

While the Chosen of Domi hold their sticks of baking bread over the fire, the satyrs' tell them about the Culverwood ignoring Zeoll's attempt to strike a deal. They explain how without a good guide, someone who knows the forest, its shifting paths, and its monsters, a party could get lost. How the wood tends to capture travelers by magically altering the landscape to appear that it goes on forever. How the forest seems to be sentient, and looks with disfavour on those who light large fires, harm live wood, pick plants, dig any holes, or injure any of the creatures found in the forest. "Especially hedgehogs!" announces Thalpius, and Thadius starts to laugh, reaching out for Flat-Top's wine skin.

Toros
Tuesday December 6th, 2005 5:25:02 AM

Toros is really enjoying the wine, food, talk and the folk, wondering what will be waiting for the Chosen next. However, one thing for sure, these feys know how to have fun!!

Gecktar
Tuesday December 6th, 2005 11:37:51 AM

Gecktar look a bit disapointed when he sees that he has nothing to eat. He forgot to replenish his bag one more time.

But the two satyrs seems to be well equiped. And he enjoy this flavorful breakfast.

He listen attentively to what say the two Satyrs. "What about you" he says "Do you know this forest well enough to guide us without to many risks ?"

Brahmah
Tuesday December 6th, 2005 12:08:27 PM

Brahmah listens intently.

Hearing Gecktar's question, the leader says, "Beggers can't be chosers Gecktar. We haven't met anyone else here, have we?" He smiles.

Flat-top
Tuesday December 6th, 2005 2:07:20 PM

Flat-top is fasenated with the bread like glob on the stick, "Hmm! This is smeling good!" he said with a smile.
Then his head snap up, "Did you see that? I think some one is following us? It was just a flash, but ti was over there!" Flat-top points to the back way they came from.

Zeoll  d20+13=28
Tuesday December 6th, 2005 6:54:31 PM

Zeoll thanks Ban for the fish. "Mmmm. Delicious!" He is also glad to have the food, and eats the bread gladly.

He wonders why the satyrs have ignored his offer of a deal. He tries one more time. "New frriends, you arre exactly rright! We do need good guides. Guides who will keep us frrom harrm and bring us out of the forrest afterr we have enterred."

"Are you offerring to be the guides we need?" The liontaur takes out his drums and sings:
Two fauns we met forr brreakfast once
And overr fish and brread,
We learrned and laughed and drrank theirr health
And this is what they said:
"Come follow us but do bewarre"
"Of hedgehogs in yourr bed!"

The liontaur's song continues in a whimsical vein for a few more stanzas. [Perform check 28]

DM Bob and Carla
Wednesday December 7th, 2005 12:17:40 AM

"Beggars can't be choosers!" squeals Thadius repeating Brahmah's observation to Gecktar. The satyr's outburst is interrupted by the diplomatic Zeoll's music and song. Thalpius does not hesitate, and pulls out a musical instrument composed of several hollow reeds of graduated size tied together in descending order. With a wink at Toro's, he begins to play (all, Will save vs DC 14 or be Charmed and feel compelled to dance!) and when Zeoll's rhyme is done it is followed by one from the satyr.

When therrre's folks like you in the forrrest,
They're usually from away.
'tis mostly folks like us who rrrest,
In the kingdom of the fae!

Reverse psychology from a cow,
Sweet flatterrry from a lion.
Your guides we agree to be, for now,
Our prrrice ? Five barrels of wine!

The singing satyr rolls his r's in an exaggerated fashion to mimic the wemic's accent.

The nervous centaur thinks he sees something on the path that lead to the river, but further inspection by Flat-top reveals no interloper unless you count a couple of conies in the grass.

Toros  d20+10=30
Wednesday December 7th, 2005 2:04:41 AM

Even if he is not affected by the charming spell (natural 20, d20=30>14) Toros is already affected from the charm of the night and does not miss the opportunity to dance!!

Gecktar  d20+7=16
Wednesday December 7th, 2005 3:38:27 AM

Gecktar seems not affected by the charm but seeing Toros standing up and dancing, he thinks 'why not, such encounter are not so frequent'.

On his turn he stands up and begin to dance with Toros. Everyone in the assembly rapidly sees that he has really no skill in it. But he tries...

"Come on Chosen, let the music play and take some time to dance among the trees of culverwood."

He begins a whirlwind dance and finish rolling on the floor, after a root trip him, laughing to death...

Zeoll  d20+9=26 d20+13=24 d20+5=21
Wednesday December 7th, 2005 6:34:33 AM

Zeol is unaffected by the compelling dance music, and he immediately begins to tap his drum and sing, with an amused scolding tone in his voice:
Now Thadius and Thalpius,
Yourr song is cute and sweet.
But it is not polite to trry
To charrm ourr dancing feet.
We dance forr love of dance, my frriends!
No need forr you to cheat!

Although he does not feel compelled to, Zeoll stands and bows gracefully as he sings his countersong, and performs a few steps of a slow dance. [OOC: Untrained Perform(Dance) check is a 21. Bardic music countersong ability -- everyone can use Zeoll's perform check instead of their own save. And his perform check is a 24, so in essence, no one is forced to dance, although they may if they wish!]

When the dance is over, Zeoll says to his fellow Chosen, "Well, frriends, shall we take these rrude fellows to guide us thrrough the wood? They arre prranksterrs, we see, but harrmless enough, I deem. If they will swearr to guide us faithfully, leading us as safely as they can, and brringing us out of the Woods again, then I forr one would swearr to pay them theirr prrice and prrotect them while they arre with us as if they werre ourr brrotherrs."

Zeoll makes this speech in common, not in Taur, because he wants the satyrs to hear it.

Flat-top  d20+5=13
Wednesday December 7th, 2005 7:05:56 AM

Flat-top mind is takes away from the idea that something is following them, when he hears the music from the pipes, His hoooves start to taps to the rhytem.
When Toros and Gecktar dances together, then fall on his rump. Flat-top (now charmed! it does not take much, he loves to dance??) Flat-top goes to Toros and Zeoll, Starts to snaps his fingers, as he goes into a cha cha dance, "Oh! What beautiful music, you two keep up the music and I'll throw in another barrel when we get HOME!"

OOC: Home, that Flat-top is refering to is on Taur Island!

Brahmah  d20+6=23
Wednesday December 7th, 2005 11:06:54 AM

(Will save 23)

Looking at the others dancing, he's happy NOT to join in, as his talent isn't par with the satyr's. He sits munching on rations. However, he keeps an eye for spies.
'I know the pixies are here too.' He thinks to himself, peering into the dim light trying to see the invisible fey that are near. 'Devlish lil' blighters.' He tightens his coin purse, and hides all of his small gear in his pack so that it won't be stolen. Then he lays back on it like a pillow and looks at the sky dreaming of the Isles.

DM Bob and Carla
Wednesday December 7th, 2005 11:00:32 PM

Unperturbed by the satyr's magic Toros and Gecktar abandon themselves to the dance.
Manes fly. Beads and totem bags bounce and swing, as minotaur and wemic twist and shout. Soon they are joined by an excited Flat-Top while Zeoll chooses a more sedate form of self expression. Brahmah, unable to completely let down his guard, watches, his head resting on his pack.

Zeoll asks the satyr's for a commitment to lead the party safely through the Culverwood. "By Grynntym's staff, you press us hard, you do!" cries Thadius. "We will! We will!" promises Thalpius. Turning to Flat-Top he continues, "but six barrels of wine it is, and the very same that you have in your skin. I have never had so good as that before!" Taking up his pipes he prances towards a narrow part of the river that separates the Red Hills from the forest of the Culverwood. Thadius kicks sand over the dying embers of the small campfire, and beckons to the recumbent minotaur that it is time to go. As he skips after his brother, he sings,

Tell all the Truth but tell it slant-
Success in Circuit lies
Too bright for our infirm Delight
The Truth's superb surprise

Thalpius skips and jumps over the boulders and waits for the party on the other side of the river, while Thadius bows low, and sweeps his arm over the river, inviting the party to do the same. The early morning sun glints off the water as it empties from the little pool and bubbles over rocks and through boulders, making its way southward. The green coolness of the forest beckons.

(All Balance check vs DC 10 to move from rock surface to rock surface and make it across the narrow bit of river. Failure means you fall into the water! It is shallow, so you will only get wet and take damage to your pride!)

Gecktar
Thursday December 8th, 2005 3:37:49 AM

After this refreshing moment, Gecktar gather his gear and when ready follows the two Satyrs.
Supporting the weight of his armor and shield he knows he has no chance to cross the river while staying dry so he consciouly cross the river where it seems the less deep walking in the water.

Flat-top yells at Gecktar, "Hey! Cleric! Are you a Chickentaur?" With the brahveau of two centaur.
Flat-top starts accross the stream hoping from one rock to another. Until he hops on a water covered rock, slips on it and into the water he goes but he lands on his hooves.
"There I made it!" he tell the others on the other side of the stream.

(previously in Ban's world: Will save 22. Seeing that Zeoll also has a drum,Ban pulls out his frame drum and pounds a solid acompaning beat. Though he doesn't dance he does sway rhythmically with the music.)

At some point when the satyrs are on a separate side of the stream from Ban, he leans over to one of his taur companions, "where are we to get 5 barrels of wine out here in the woods?"

Brahmah
Thursday December 8th, 2005 10:59:20 AM

Brahmah follows closely behind the satyr's, trudging through the water, almost unaware of the water. "It'll be nice to be in serious forest again. I've gotten tired of cities."

Zeoll  d20=20
Thursday December 8th, 2005 6:00:33 PM

Zeoll's intention was to seal the deal with the satyrs with mutual oaths ... since he does not really trust the fey. But the one hopped over the ford, and his fellow Chosen have passed over as well, and Zeoll wonders about the futility of trying to extract formal vows from the fauns under the circumstances.

But they have seemed to promise, and Zeoll supposes that will have to do. With a sigh, he helps break camp. He thanks Ban for his help with the music, and apologizes for not knowing more about the newest Chosen's capabilities. "I am a barrd and a drruid," he tells Ban, not remembering if he said that before. "And I hope one day to seek enlightenment as a seerr. Rremind me, my frriend, wherre yourr talents lie."

When asked about the promised wine, Zeoll answers, "With luck we may visit the Catacombs Magic Shop, eitherr in a town orr a city orr maybe in ourr drreams. It is possible that the staff therre might arrrange a deliverry even to a wild place like this. Orr failing that, we will simply have to go get it in ourr homeland and then rreturrn to deliverr it herre."

Then Zeoll tries his luck with the ford. Ha! Zeoll's natural 20 has him practically skipping over the ford ... which surprises the often-less-than-graceful liontaur!

Toros  d20+2=14
Thursday December 8th, 2005 7:42:40 PM

Knowing that the Chosen could be a moving target Toros is cautious. On the river bank, he looks for triangles of stones so that he can balance his feet good enough to pass across the river (balance 14). On the other side, he releases his bardic magical energy as much as necessary to dry Gecktar's and others' clothes and equipment (cast prestidigitation(s)).

DM Bob and Carla
Thursday December 8th, 2005 11:02:18 PM

Ignoring the dry rocks across the stream, Gecktar wades right in. The cold current tugs at his fetlocks and soon he can barely feel his legs below his knees. Flat-Top dances nimbly across the path, making a showy splash when he gains the other side and good naturedly taunting his minotaur friend. Ban Maeve wonders how the party will make good their promise to the satyr's while Zeoll worries about whether the satyr's will make good on theirs!

The party leader chooses the same route as Gecktar. Brahmah soon realizes that if the water were deeper and the current swifter, the party could very well perish. The bone numbing cold would make it impossible to survive for more than a few minutes. A cautious Toros brings up in the rear, and thoughtfully tends to the wetter members of the party.

Thadius and Thalpius lead the party away from the river and the valley floor, climbing until the burbling of the flowing water can no longer be heard. After an hours struggle to get through the medium density undergrowth lower in the valley, the party discovers what appears to be a well trod game trail. Thadius is first, followed by Thalpius.

Although the party must walk in single file down the game trail, Thadius frequently calls over his shoulder and points out interesting plants and trees. There are several species of trees, and the satyr explains that some of the trees, called conifers, never loose their leaves, which are thin and green, like needles. He stops in front of another. Its needles are much shorter, and soft to the touch. It is a graceful tree, pyramidal and slender. The satyr explains that this tree, a Larch is an exception and will shed it's 'leaves' when the cold season comes.

(OOC: Please post marching order!)

Friday December 9th, 2005 3:17:31 AM

Walking at the rear and checking his gear the Toros follows his non-taur "tour" guides. He seems to be more like in an inner voyage though, following the paths his thoughts choose...

waoww, if Kanchana would be here I am sure she would be very much impressed with all these plants and stuff... and I wish Leets would be here and detect whether there is evil or not at will... Domi knows what will happen next...

Thadius continues his narrative, as the party moves through a changing forest. There is the occasional ancient deciduous tree amongst the younger conifers. These majestic specimens have great branches that reach into the sky with enormous spreading canopies that block out the light. The earth smells pungent and earthy, rich with decaying organic matter. Close behind the satyr, Gecktar listens in wrapt attention, while Brahmah takes note of any landmarks, with Zeoll right behind him keeping a eye on the route. The wemic notices that after what seems like many hours the trail widens enough so that two can walk abreast.

It is hard to tell the time since the sun is hidden by the tree tops, but the rumbling of stomachs denotes the middle of the day. Foraging successfully, Ban Maeve has collected a clutch of eggs from an abandoned nest as well as a large collection of edible mushrooms. There is a bit of smell to the eggs, but with a little care, they may cook up okay.

With eyes and ears open, those who follow in the rear, Flat-Top and Toros pick up nothing that is unusual for this forest.

When the party breaks for a bite to eat, Thadius and Thalpius move a little way from the party and have an animated, conversation in loud whispers. Some of the party overhear the satyrs and suspect the fey of plotting something. Nonetheless, no one confronts Thadius or Thalpius and no one makes any accusations. It isn't long, however, before the two brothers come forward and, looking a little sheepish, make their confession.

"We don't know where to find this cave you seek, exactly," volunteers Thadius. "The one with the many-eyed monster!" adds Thalpius. Thadius continues, "if anyone were to know, it would be the Greenmage. Another who might know something would be the half-elf, old Luther over at Pullman's Crossing. Most folks passing through the forest spend a night or two at the roadhouse. Luther usually knows if there's something going to happen."

"You could make it to the crossing by nightfall if you follow this path," suggests Thalpius. "And we could go looking for Grynntym," adds Thadius. "But a promise is a promise," continues Thalpius, "and we said we would show you through the woods. We do know about the Culverwood and we could get you through to the other side and Shadow Mountain, or north to Cinnamon Valley, or even south to the Emerald Kingdom , but if it is just some cave..."

"You could go to Pullman's Crossing," repeats Thalpius, "and we could try to find the Greenmage and meet you there in a day of so!" concludes Thadius brightly.

"But..." blurts Thalpius. Thadius silences him with a look, then countinues " I do not know when we will find the Greenmage. Thadius removes a thick grey cloak from his bag, and wraps it about his shoulders. It falls to his knees. Thalpius does likewise.

"I trust you have warm clothes, gear for camping, and food? " the satyr with a goatee adds as he turns his back on the party and leads the way down the forest path. One satyr leads the way while the other stays near the back of the pack with Flat-top. Gecktar has a moment of regret that the party will not tarry at the roadhouse. Toros places his trust with the party's leadership. It is a quiet hike with most of the taurs keeping their thoughts to themselves. Thalpius confides in Flat-top informing him that Luther's scone-making daughter is a half-elf.

The westerly path continues wide and easy, but eventually the party arrives at a fork in the road. Thadius sets a northwesterly course. This new path is narrow and once again the party must walk single file. The tightness of the muscles of haunches and legs confirms the incline of the path.

Using magic against the cooler temperature, Zeoll dismisses the need for warm clothes. Gecktar recognizes the magic used by the druid, but unable to invoke it right away, gratefully wraps himself in Flat-Top's blanket. While some re-think the idea of the inn, Brahmah dips into his rations. Locating the strange fey egg near the top of his pack, the leader of the party asks the satyrs if they recognize the item. Thadius takes the colourful trinket in his hand and studies it. "Yes! This is an early spring gift of the Fey King! Where did you get it?" Before the minotaur can answer, Thadius adds, "if you smash it, 4 glowing spheres will appear, like will-o'-whisps, and light your way for a little while.* Quite useful, and very pretty!"

Gecktar and Brahmah hear the rush of a river down below. The two minotaurs, along with Zeoll and Flat-Top notice the ground slopes steeply to the left of the trail. Trees cling precariously to the side of the hillside, and far the silver trail of swiftly flowing water. The taurs realize the ascending trail runs parallel with the river that carved the valley so many long years ago.

The path continues to narrow until the party reaches an open space where the path in front of them has been eroded. The ground sags away from the path on the left hand side of the trail, leaving a narrow ledge, and below a jumble of tumble-down trees. Beyond the ledge, which spans a 20ft width, the path continues through the forest, hugging the hillside. Balance Check DC 10 to cross the ledge. A successful check lets you move at half your speed along the surface, failure means you fall. Reflex Save DC 10 to grab hold of a bush or tree to stop your fall. DC 10 to climb back up to the ledge. If all checks failed, fall 60 ft and take 22 pts. dmg. )

From their new vantage some 60 feet lower on the slope the group can see movement behind the lit windows in the building, and make out the sounds of singing and laughter. The party decides checking in at Pullman's Crossing might not be such a bad idea after all.

"Go, spend the night and a day and we will find the Greenmage. Luther and his daughter will look after you," suggests Thadius, continuing, "Come Thalpius, we have a great distance to cover and little time to waste." The two satyrs lithely dart from rock to rock up the steep slope without a misplaced step. At the crest they stop and Thalpius calls back down to them. "A promise is a promise! We will be back...and save some wine for us!"

The idea of warm house, fresh meat and cosy bed makes its way in the head of Gecktar and now everyone can see a smile on his face.

"AAAH ! warm food and some vine. What else is needed ? Please friends don't abuse from alcoholic beverage." looking particulary to Flat-Top and Brahmah.
"Yes, I now, I have to refrain too" he says as he remember last time he was the firt to roll under the table...

Flat-top helps Zeoll To his feet, but He has heard what Gectar as said "Gectat! You must have faith in us! We Brahmah and I are old sailers, we have seen things we want to forget so we take a little drink. But remember we never let any of you down! Even if we had a little headache!" Flat-top smiles at Gectar. "I promas that I will not drink too much, maybe one mug of ale, Now let's go to the Inn."

He helps Zeoll walk to the Inn, But to Brahmah, he wonders "Captain! the two Satyrs! Don't you think They are acting a little funny? Maybe we should ply them with wine to get more infomation out of them? What do you think? Dirty trick or No?"

Wednesday December 21st, 2005 6:10:34 PM

Ban travels in silence on his way to the inn, replaying the incedent with Zeoll. Though he is alright and will soon be healed, Ban can't help but feel that he could have maintained the grip just a little longer, maybe even have pulled him up a little higher. Next time he will have to be more focused because it might not be such a little fall.

Zeoll is just fine, he reassures his friends. "Come on, let's take the fauns' advice and visit this inn. Therre's a silverr lining to everrything -- at least I get a day of work in on my cloak!"

The liontaur calls out to the fey creatures: "We'll see you tomorrrow! Good luck finding the Grreen Mage! Tell him we look forrwarrd to meeting him!"

Zeoll joins the group heading to the inn.
