An Interrupted Night-out (DM JohnP) Wednesday December 14th, 2005 10:07:43 PM Conner and Mira are sitting in the small park beside Open Palm Market. Mira is trying to calm Conner down, but it's a slow process.
========================================
Arm and Kadaz were the first to arrive at Sampson's. As is their practice, they grab a table in the middle of the floor and wait for service. Shadow slips in shortly afterwards and joins them at the table. When the waiter comes around, they each order ale. The waiter returns with a flagon for each of them.
Somewhat later, Wilfire enters Sampson's and comes to the table. He gets the attention of the waiter and orders milk.
The four are thinking about ordering food when a young boy sticks his head in the door and yells, "Some elves are gonna get their heads busted! In Open Palm Market!". The boy runs off then.
========================================
Conner and Mira can both hear the shouts and angry words coming from Open Palm Market but can't make out any words.
Mira Wednesday December 14th, 2005 11:23:16 PM
Mira jumps up from the plain park bench when she hears the yelling coming from the area of Open Palm Market.
Looking down at Conner, she says, "I fear there may be some trouble in the market. Shall we check it out?" The sorcerer steps into the street in front of the tavern and turns towards the market.
Conner d20+4=20 d20+3=5 Wednesday December 14th, 2005 11:26:46 PM
The fighter pushes up from the bench, and looses his sword in it's scabbard though he does not yet take it up. He follows Mira into the street, looking toward the market (Spot=20) and trying to hear what the yelling is about (Listen=5).
Arm d20+4=19 Thursday December 15th, 2005 6:02:45 AM
Arm blanches a bit at the words from the youth, "And still it continues," he thinks. Aloud he says, "Well, I suppose we should check it out.". Saying so, he rises to leave. Assuming the others follow and regretting not picking one up sooner, he'll try to find a store that sells hats so that he can purchase one that will cover the points on his ears. (spot=19).
Kadaz Thursday December 15th, 2005 7:12:57 AM
"This is not right," Kadaz says. "The elves here didn't cause our recent problems. I'm getting upset with these idiots. Arm, I'm with you. But do you think your presence might cause more trouble?"
Shadow Thursday December 15th, 2005 10:32:19 AM
"Yes, let's go see what is going on." Shadow says as he gets up to head out to the area. He hesitates about going and getting his bow, but decides he will have to live with just his rapier and dagger.
Confrontation in the Park (DM JohnP) Thursday December 15th, 2005 10:10:00 PM
The four party members leaving Sampson's can see two groups of people standing on the edge of Open Palm Market, not too far from the small park. Mira and Conner are coming from the park opposite the park.
Together, the six adventurers walk closer to the market. As they move closer, they can see that a group of seven people have blocked a small group of people who were trying to cross the market square.
One voice carries farther than the others. "We don't want your kind here, elves! Stay out of this quarter, you miserable thieving nature-lovers! Go back to the trees where you came from!"
The party can see that the speaker holding a stick of some kind aloft. The others with him shout agreement.
By now the six party members are close enough to see some details. The group of seven people are composed of humans and a shorter person, maybe a dwarf or halfling. Each carries some kind of tool that could be used as a weapon, from a simple club or walking stick to a hammer. One man stands closer to the other group, and he is the one speaking.
The smaller group is composed entirely of elven men and women. None seem to be carrying any weapons except for knives or daggers at their belts.
"What? Are you sneaking back here to rob from us again?," the first speaker shouts again.
One of the elves responds in a manner trying to calm the human. "No, not at all. We were simply returning to our lodgings after a hard day of work."
Arm d20+11=23 Friday December 16th, 2005 1:42:29 PM
Arm quickly pulls Shadow to the side and whispers urgently, "I think it best that I remain hidden for the moment. I don't think these people will challenge us if we make a show of arms towards them. The only downside to that is that we may be hurting ourselves in the long run as far as future jobs are concerned. Whatever choice the rest of you make, I will stand behind you, but I fear that if I were to speak, it would only make matters worse. Good luck, my friend.".
He backs away and tries to see if there is any way to make his way unnoticed to Mira and Conner's side. (spot=23). If he is successful, he will tell Mira, "I think it is best that you speak for us in this situation," and fades into the background.
Kadaz Friday December 16th, 2005 3:58:15 PM
Kadaz looks over the gathering crowd to pick out the lead hooligans. He carefully ties his axe to his back and pulls out his flail. "This is our city and we can't let hate thrive. If we don't stand up for what's right, who will?"
"Let's get between the two groups. If we separate that one jerk in front of the others we may be able to halt more trouble." Kadaz leads off, flail held unobtrusively but at the ready.
Conner [AC=21, HP=52] d20+5=24 d3+4=7 d20=14 Friday December 16th, 2005 7:30:29 PM
Still simmering from the officious city clerk, Conner wades into the Open Palm Market, his sword sheathed but his massive fists clenched, hoping for an excuse to relieve the turmoil that wells within him. He heads directly towards the mouthy human and if possible positions himself nose-to-nose with the aggressor.
"It's been a long day friend" Conner's voice resonates from his chest, "I imagine these hard working folks have families to get back to, as do you". Then more quietly he speaks only to the man in front of him "and if that isn't plain enough for you, I'll engrave it on your skull, understood?" [Intimidate=14]
Conner's tattoo flares a deep crimson and a small vein on his temple seems to swell ever so slightly as he stares the man down.
[OOC Conner's fists remain clenched and at his side, but he is more than prepared to defend himself - Held action - fighting defensively - effective AC=21, Hit AC=24 for 7 HP subdual if attacked by the man or his followers ]
Shadow Friday December 16th, 2005 7:52:21 PM
Shadow nods his head as Arm whispers to him, and he moves forward with the group. He suddenly sees Conner move towards the loudmouth human male, and he hurries to show that Conner is not by himself. He makes sure his rapier is loose in it's scabard, but does not draw it. He makes sure his face shows just how serious this situation is, but inside he his hoping for the best that this can be resolved without bloodshed.
Standing up for What's Right (DM JohnP) d20+6=26 Friday December 16th, 2005 10:06:25 PM
The party moves forward to intervene between the two groups in Open Palm Market. Arm hangs back, however, thinking that his elven heritage would be an impediment.
Conner strides to the forefront and gets into the face of the ringleader of the group of humans. Surprisingly, the dishevelled man just shouts right back at Conner. "NO! I don't have a family to get back to! Not since those elves called up that Fae King monster that ruined this city!"
He stops for a moment and the other humans and the gnome (not a halfling or dwarf) crowd in behind him and grip their improvised weapons.
Kadaz and Shadow are now between the two groups as well. Both of them recognize one of the elves as Talereithan, their companion during the journey to Angel Springs before the coming of the Fae King.
The human continues to speak. "One of these elves, or one of their friends, stole something from me! And I want it back!"
The two groups shift nervously. No one in either group seems willing to make the first move, either to attack or to run.
Talereithan speaks in a soft voice to Shadow and Kadaz.
"I assure you, the five of us know nothing of any theft. We are simply trying to get back to our lodgings in the Hindquarter."
Kadaz d20-3=15 Saturday December 17th, 2005 12:03:37 PM
Kadaz and Birdie move between the angry human and the elves. He turns to directly address the speaker. "You claim he stole. What is missing? And what proof do you have? Maybe we can help you look for it." (diplomacy 15)
Mira (AC 17, 35 HP-Shield) d20+8=24 Sunday December 18th, 2005 6:56:41 PM
Before entering the fray, the sorcerer makes a circular movement with her, palm facing out. Tinechor"* she says in the ancient language. Feeling a little less vulnerable, Mira moves forward.
Mira finds a place behind Conner and Kadaz. Standing directly behind the dwarf she looks at the angry man accusing the elves of having lifted something of his. "Please," she says, "do tell us what the issue is. What is it that is missing, and how do you know it is these individuals who have appropriated it?" (Diplomacy=24)

Conner [AC=21; HP=52] d20=20 d20+4=18 d20+5=20 d3+4=7 Sunday December 18th, 2005 6:57:22 PM
The tattooed fighter feels the anger getting the better of him and steps forward pressing his chest against the smaller man. "I've warned you already" he rasps under his breath, "yield ground now or prepare yourself." [Intimidate=Natural 20, Strength check to hold his ground should the man try to push back=18].
Conner's fists remain clenched and at his side, ready to strike at a moments notice [held action; hit ac=20 for 7 subdual dmg if attacked - fighting defensively - AC=21]
Arm Monday December 19th, 2005 6:00:36 AM
Arm fingers the hilt of his sword nervously, wishing that he could help but forced to stand helpless at the moment.
Shadow Monday December 19th, 2005 8:39:24 AM
Shadow hears the man accuse those gathered as to have taking something of his. He turns to the elves and looks to see if any of them are members of the guild. He tries to think back to which members he knows are elves, but there are just too many members for him to know if there are any here. He makes a small sign that if a member sees it they will respond (he turns his hand palm up with the middle finger curled up under his thumb and the other three fingers outsrtetched), and he waits for a response from any of the people gathered.
Theft (ADM Scott for DM John) Monday December 19th, 2005 8:50:16 AM
The man seems to start to settle down listening to Kadaz and Mira ask about the theft, but his ire rises once again when Conner confronts him about backing down.
He yells at Conner, but he answers Kadaz, "One of those nature-lovers stole my wives necklace, and I mean to have it back now!"
Talereithan once again speaks softly to Shadow and Kadaz saying, "I swear to you that none from this group were involved in the theft, and I know in my heart that no elf would do such a thing in this time of unrest." He pleads to them.
The tension has grown even more with now three different groups involved in this confrontation. The upset human notices Talereithan whispering to Shadow and Kadaz and yells, "What is it saying to persuade you so?" The group of humans and one gnome push even further up behind the man since he is not backing down from the group.
Shadow does not see anyone give the countersign, and therefore there are no guild members present.
Kadaz (AC 21, HP 53/53) d20+15=30 d20-3=16 Monday December 19th, 2005 9:26:04 PM
This is getting worse, not better. Kadaz learned in the guard that acting first and decisively can stop an argument in its tracks. And the human in front appears to be the key.
Kadaz's flail is at his side and ready. He swings it up and then quickly down at the weapon the jerk in front is carrying, trying to disarm him. (disarm roll 30 = 15 + 9 melee + 2 weapon + 4 feat)
"I mean you no harm. But if you try to pick up that weapoon my next swing will be at your head," Kadaz says reasonably but firmly. (diplomacy 16)
Mira (AC 17, 35 HP-Shield) d20+3=19 Tuesday December 20th, 2005 12:06:09 AM
Mira rolls her eyes when Conner gets in the man's face, but the sorcerer doesn't say anything. She steps back from the confrontation and towards the small party of elves. "Talereithan," she says speaking softly, "remember us? We met back before all this...crazy stuff with nature?" Nodding at the small mob she asks, "Do you know what set them off?"
While waiting for the elf to respond, Mira quietly opens her scroll case. (Move Silently=19) and selects a scroll.

Arm Tuesday December 20th, 2005 6:01:19 AM
Unable to hear what Tal is saying to the rest, Arm is nevertheless convinced that he would not be guilty of theft, and he doesn't believe that he would associate with others who are.
Seeing the disarm, he grips the hilt of his sword, preparing to draw it and enter the fray if need be.
Shadow Tuesday December 20th, 2005 10:06:59 AM
Shadow asks, "What proof do you have that one of these elves has stolen this necklace?" He hopes to find some answers before this escalates further.
Conner [AC=21; HP=52] d20+5=20 d3+4=6 Tuesday December 20th, 2005 7:16:26 PM
The fighter holds his ground menacing and does his best to hide his disbelief that the man has not backed up [Note nat 20 on intimidate last round].
If the man attempts to either retaliate against Kadaz or pick up his weapon, Conner will surely swing a meaty fist in the vicinity of his head [Held action Hit AC=20 for 6 dmg, still fighting defensively]
Cooler Heads Prevail (DM JohnP) Tuesday December 20th, 2005 10:16:38 PM
After Kadaz knocks away the man's stick, he steps back a little bit and raises his hands. One of the other humans, however, steps forward and takes his elbow before he makes any motion towards either Kadaz or the looming menace of Conner.
"Fendrik ... wait a moment."
Looking at Shadow, the man spits out "Proof? What proof do I need besides that they are elves? They summoned up that Fae King, ruined this city and ...". The man falters a little and sags back towards the man holding his elbow.
"That Fae King ... his flooding and plants and animals ... killed my darling Alena, Mari and ... and ... sweet little Josey." The man sputters to a stop.
The human holding up the leader speaks now. "Fendrik couldn't find Alena's necklace this morning. The elves who had lived next door knew about the necklace, so one of them must of stolen it."
Meanwhile, there is a hushed conversation between Mira and Talereithan. The elf whispers, "I do remember you ... and the assistance you provided." Gesturing towards the mob, he continues. "I know nothing of this necklace, but the human there is Fendrik Vaeder. He and some others have stirred up trouble since the Fae King, blaming elves for what happened. Some of us have been beaten and some, well, we don't know."
Back in the shadows, Arm sees nobody else in the market. Kadaz and Conner seem to have quieted things down, for the moment at least.
OOC - Thanks to ADM Scott for taking over last night.
Arm d20+11=18 Wednesday December 21st, 2005 6:11:49 AM
Roiling at the chance to voice his opinion that not ALL elves voted to raise the Fae, and that THEY have lost many loved ones as well, Arm instead stands his ground and contends himself with listening to the conversations around him for the moment, hoping to pick up something that will aid the group later (listen=18).
Shadow Wednesday December 21st, 2005 8:39:23 AM
Shadow is a little relieved about the seeming of the man and mob calming down, but is still worried about them still being rash. "Sir, maybe we could help with finding your necklace. It must mean a lot to you for you to be this upset by it's loss." Shadow suggests as he motions to Mira about moving the elves on.
Kadaz Wednesday December 21st, 2005 2:25:34 PM
Kadaz eyes the grieving man in front of him. "That fae king is very powerful. If these eleves here could summon him do you think they'd let you bother them like you're doing?" Kadaz eyes Mira and with a shake of his head indicates he'd like someone smoother spoken to take over.
Mira d20+8=19 Wednesday December 21st, 2005 7:46:32 PM
"You best be on your way," counsels Mira in a low voice to Talereithan, "just tell me where you are staying. We will check the place later to ensure you are safe," Mira jestures to the elves to skirt around the party and the mob they confront.
Moving forward to stand behind Kadaz once again, Mira speaks to the distraght man who has lost his family. "Let us go over to yon tavern, Sampsons it is called. Tell us when last you saw this necklace, and describe it. Perhaps one of my companions can even draw its likeness?" Mira will actually push her way between the dwarf and Conner and lay a gentle hand on the man's arm. Her green eyes look up at the man from behind her little round spectacles, "please sir, we really would like to help you." (Diplomacy=19)
Conner Wednesday December 21st, 2005 10:37:35 PM
Conner moves back when Mira pushes her way past. He grumbles something about an opportunity wasted and keeps a wary eye on the vigilantes.
Offers and Acceptance (DM JohnP) Wednesday December 21st, 2005 11:31:00 PM
Fendrik Vaeder looks back and forth between Mira and Shadow after they offer to investigate. "Sure, try to find out which elf stole Alena's necklace. Then we'll settle things, wait and see. But I don't like how friendly you are with these elves," pointing to Talereithan.
Fendrik and the man holding his arm look at Kadaz and Conner both. While it seems that the vigilantes have been intimidated for the moment, it seems that they are making note of who intervened in their sport. The man at Fendrik's arm responds to Kadaz, "The only way that we can make sure that Plateau City remains safe from the elves is to make sure none are in the City. So the next time they call up their monster god, it won't be here."
From where Arm is standing, keeping his elven heritage out of the encounter was very likely a good idea.
When Talereithan and the elves move to walk around, the mob spreads out to block their path. "They're still not going through our neighbourhood," exclaims one of the mob. The elves look at one another and start walking along Riverside Road.
Arm d20+11=31 d20+4=18 Thursday December 22nd, 2005 6:02:49 AM
Not daring to follow the group to Sampsons, Arm catches Mira's eye, then motions as if to follow the rest of Tal's group. He then begins to follow them at a discrete distance, keeping an eye out for trouble and feeling as if he is an enemy in a town that up until recently he felt comfortable being in. (listen=31 - nat. 20, spot=18).
Kadaz Thursday December 22nd, 2005 6:34:06 AM
Kadaz watches the elves take the long way home. The problem may be over tonight but what about tomorrow morning? Sooner or later some hothead is going to jump an elf. "Mira" he says softly, "do you think we should volunteer to look for this necklace? We have folks here here who are good at finding things."
Shadow Thursday December 22nd, 2005 9:04:58 AM
Trusting in Mira to handle the situation now, Shadow will follow along with her lead. He does not have the skill with people Mira seems to have, so he will only offer suggestions when needed.
Mira Thursday December 22nd, 2005 5:55:58 PM
Mira is loath to have the group separate, however Arm makes a preemtive move, prompting the sorcerer to action.
"Conner, Kadaz, would you go along with Arm and make sure the elves get home okay?" Gesturing to those who remain behind she continues in a whisper, "we should be okay at Sampson's. Its a public place. We'll meet up back at the apartment no later than morning, okay?"
Mira once again places a hand on the upset human's arm. "Mr. Vaeder, please come with me and my friend, here. He is very good at finding lost things. Will you and your friends accompany us to the tavern over there? You can describe your wife's treasure, for us."
Conner Thursday December 22nd, 2005 8:23:37 PM
Conner calls after Talereithan and the elves and runs to join them. "Wait, I will accompany you back to your dwellings. No harm will come to you tonight."
A Discussion ... of Sorts ... over an Ale (DM JohnP) Thursday December 22nd, 2005 11:03:26 PM
The elves and the mob separate, each group their separate way. And the adventurers also split up, each following their own path.
Arm manages to follow in the shadows behind the group of elves. He sees both Kadaz and Conner join up with them and escort them along Riverside Road. The elves are subdued as they walk, although even Arm can hear a man and woman discussing leaving Plateau City. After going a short distance along Riverside, the elves are able to flag down a water-taxi that will carry them to the Hindquarter. Before boarding, Talereithan turns to Kadaz and Conner.
"Look into this theft, please. I sincerely believe that elves were not responsible for the theft. If you need information about this man's neighbours, or any other information, get in touch with me. A message left with the Society will reach me and I can arrange a place to meet."
After that, he steps into the water taxi and the boat moves off upriver.
========================================
Meanwhile, Mira and Shadow attempt to persuade Fendrik Vaeder to join them in Sampson's. The human man listens to the sorceress' words and nods.
"I can join you, briefly mind you." He then turns to the remainder of the mob.
"Keep patrolling - you know what to look for. I'll be in Sampson's and we know that it's safe." The man who had held his elbow voices an objection.
"Fendrik, you shouldn't go off by yourself with these people. You already know that they associate with elves. Let me come with you."
Fendrik nods and the two men start walking towards Sampson's. The rest of the mob walk the other way and start to make a circuit of the market.
Fendrik Vaeder and the other man walk ahead of Mira and Shadow into Sampson's. The two move to a table where they can see the doors and seat themselves, motioning towards one of the waiters. They each order an ale and the other man indicates that either Mira or Shadow will be paying.
Vaeder waits until Mira and Shadow have sat down. "Did you want to talk now, or did you want to wait until your friends are back from seeing those elves off?"
Arm Friday December 23rd, 2005 5:55:26 AM
Arm winces a bit at Conner's call, but then relaxes when nothing comes of it. After they see the elves off, he turns to him and says, "I've heard talk of people leaving the city, and I fear I may need to do the same if this persecution doesn't end soon. I don't wish to do it, but for me to stay would be a danger to myself and to all of you. I'll accompany you back to Sampson's, but then I'm going back to the apartment...I have some thinking to do.".
Kadaz Friday December 23rd, 2005 6:23:23 AM
As Talereithan and his companions get into the water taxi Kadaz offers one last word of advice. "Let us know if there's any aid we can offer. And be careful." With that, he turns to Conner. "How about going to Sampson's? Let's see if Mira can talk some sense into that guy. Or else we can beat some into him." He finishes with a grin.
Shadow Friday December 23rd, 2005 10:47:26 AM
Shadow follows the men into Sampson's and takes a seat opposite the other man, leaving the seat opposite Fendrik. When the two men order ales Shadow says, "I will have one also, Mira for you?" He will pay the for all of their drinks, but will wait to let Mira start since she seems to handle Fendrik better.
Mira Friday December 23rd, 2005 5:29:17 PM
When the man asks if they should wait for the rest of the party before starting their discussion, Mira smiles. "I don't think my friend here, or I have anything to fear from you...do you?" Pulling a piece of cheap paper and an implement for writing out of her scroll case, the sorcerer says, "describe this necklace, and I will do my best to draw it." Mira will busy herself with the drawing, catching his eye from time to time and encouraging him to speak of other things when he grows quiet.
"When and where did you last see the necklace? Where is it stored when not worn? Are there others in your house who knew of it? Acquaintances who might have known where you kept it?" Mira continues her line of questioning as she sketches, occasionally showing the drawing to the man for confirmation of it's likeness to the original.
Conner Friday December 23rd, 2005 8:12:34 PM
Conner waves to the elves as they board the water taxi across the river. He turns to Kadaz, "What's with these people, can't they see that the elves also lost many of their own. Nobody could have forseen what happened to the city. Let's head back to Sampson's"
Conner follows the guardsman back to the familiar ground of the inn.
Arm Monday December 26th, 2005 2:16:52 PM
Arriving back at the apartment, hopefully without incident, Arm goes to his room and sits on his bed, thinking about the viability of his staying in the city.
Further Discussions (DM JohnP) Monday December 26th, 2005 10:28:40 PM Mira and Shadow sit down at the table opposite Fendrik Vaeder and his supporter. Over time, Kadaz and Conner also drift in and join them at the table. Arm appears at the door then turns and heads to the apartment.
Mira poses a number of questions to Fendrik about the necklace. The man takes a deep drink of his ale and looks at Mira before speaking.
"Direct. I like that ... straight to business was always the way I did things. Now, this city needs to set business straight with the elves for what they did."
He begins responding to Mira's questions in a direct manner.
"I gave the necklace to Alena after Mari, our oldest daughter, had been born." He pauses and takes another drink. "My business was going well and I wanted to give her something nice. It was a platinum chain with a sapphire hanging from it, like a pendant, with small diamonds around it. I bought it from Burl Tarvson he's still around and may be able to describe how he made it."
Fendrik takes a sip of his ale and spends a moment fiddling with the tankard.
"Alena loved the necklace. She wore it whenever it was appropriate, not everyday of course, but to banquets or celebrations. Otherwise, we kept it in the safe cabinet of my business."
"After the troubles when the elves summoned that Fae King ..."
Fendrik voice catches a bit now and his companion looks concerned. The man speaks now to Mira and the others. "Let him be. He lost everything in the troubles. His family, his home and his business."
After taking another sip of his ale and wiping away more tears, Fendrik can continue.
"After ... after what happened, I came back to our house. I thought that Alena, Mari or little Josey would come back, if they were able. But they didn't show up. I spent time trying to put things back together. I had found what was left of my office, including the cabinet. Alena's necklace was there ... I took it and just sat looking at it. Thinking."
He sobs now, and coughs wetly. "Alena ... Mari ... and Josey ... all gone. Saerthel lied to me and I thought," he sobs again. "Thought that it would be best ...". Fendrik now begins crying.
His companions takes his arm again, laying a comforting arm across his shoulder.
"Fendrik ... if you'd rather talk about this later, I'm sure that people have enough to catch the elves who took this." Turning now to Mira, he continues. "I suggest that you track down Fendrik's neighbour, Saerthel. That elf and his brood knew about the necklace."
The companion steers Fendrik to his feet and moves to leave Sampson's.
Arm Tuesday December 27th, 2005 6:01:53 AM
After a bit, Arm lays down on his bed for a bit of rest, thinking that he should have had someone bring him back some food from Sampson's. Shortly, he falls into a fitful sleep, plagued by dreams of people chasing him.
Shadow Tuesday December 27th, 2005 9:09:37 AM
Shadow listens intently as the men give their accounts. He shakes his head both for the mans loss and his unrelentless accusations for elves even though he has no proof it was them.
After the men leave, Shadow turns to Mira, "It could have been anybody that took that necklace, and I would really doubt this Saerthel would know anything." Shadow then pauses and says, "I will check with the Guild, but this would not have been sanctioned by them because they have banned any work because of the devastation to the city."
Conner Tuesday December 27th, 2005 9:46:26 AM
Conner keeps his distance until after the man is led away. "We'd better solve this quick or ther'll be bloodshed" he says to Mira. "I don't like the mood out there. Folks were tolerant of each other before..."
Mira d20+2=7 Tuesday December 27th, 2005 10:15:02 PM
The sorcerer makes a quick sketch of the necklace according to the discription provided by Fendrick. She makes notes along the margin of the paper...the name of the man's wife, his children, the craftsman who make the necklace, the neighbor suspected of its theft. The sorcerer is suspicious of the solicitude of the distraught man's supporter and tries to discern his interest through his manner and tone of voice (Sense Motive=7). Before he escorts Fendrick home, she enquires as to his name and adds it to the notes on her paper.
She walks with them to the threshold of the tavern, and says, "we will make some enquiries, and hopefully find that which you seek. Please keep an open mind regarding those of elvish blood. There are, unfortunately, many who would try to profit during these troubled times, and they are not always those we suspect."
+++++++
When the men are gone, Mira will confer with Shadow, Conner, and Kadaz. "Many have perished during this time of upheavel, as we have witnessed, but Fendrick has not said he had proof that his loved ones have gone to the Shadowlands. I'm sure that if they lived and were safe nearby they might try to return to their home. But, if something was stopping them...? Anyway, what if the wife took the necklace as she and the children fled from the disaster?" Mira sits back in her chair, idly twirling her writing tool, and listening to what the others have to contribute. A small crease forms between her brow as she puzzles over the mystery.
