The Approach (DM/Al) Tuesday December 13th, 2005 2:17:02 PM
Lord Malneth takes up the Leaf Pin slid across his desk by Sly Foxx. He turns it in two fingers, examining the workmanship.
"We will try our best," is all that he says.
"I think Lorbius may enjoy escorting our friend to the docks as well, Master Peerimus," Lord Malneth says with a slight smile. "I think they might find each other good company."
"Er, excuse me, Your Lordship." It's the rogue, Jus. This time, he appears to be referring to Peerimus as 'Your Lordship.' "I don't mean to contradict you. But the house where they're holding this Prionel is not on Trash Level. It's right here. On the Gold. One thing that means, certs you can be, is that any locks you come on will be top o' the line."
Lord Malneth nods. "And the guards as well, will be seasoned warriors," he adds. "Lord Perimon may be unwise in many things. But he hires good men."
======
The trip across Gold Level is swift. No more than half an hour, and the group turns into a side street that should lead to the house in which Prionel is being held. More people move about on the streets now. The group passes a wagon filled with fractured brick and broken timber.
The group approaches from the west, off of Shutter street. Along the way, plans are discussed. The cleric Jasper says not a word. Surprisingly, Lady Silverhand, who has proven several times before that she can become invisible, also says not a word.
The houses in this area of town are reasonably intact. And the streets have been largely cleared of rubble. The houses here, unlike the compounds in the area around House Stizein, are tightly packed Town Homes that share walls with each other. The Town Homes are two stories high with elegant facades. The roofs are 30 feet up. The windows on both the ground and second floors of all of the buildings seen so far, are shuttered. Gold Level is clearly a wealthy level, and, as both Lord Malneth and the Jus have pointed out, the houses are most likely well protected.
The "Sky" above this area, unlike Trash Level, seems quite high over the rooftops. Unfortunately there is no ammonia to be had.
100 feet up the street is a corner. From the map you examined earlier, the Town Home in question should be around the corner to the left.
Feel free to hang back a bit and talk. I wouldn't talk too loudly, though. When you wish to move, please indicate the square that you will be moving to.
If you do not roll Hide or Move Silently, I will assume that you are NOT hiding or moving silently. If you do not take care, bad things will happen.
Jaeden, last chance to leave Dalek behind with Yorrick and Luke.
If you have any questions for Lord Malneth or Jus the rogue, this is your chance to back post.
Savin Tuesday December 13th, 2005 2:17:29 PM
Savin grabs Peerimus and Firn'gaer by the shoulders over to the side of the road and signals the rest to join them. "I think we need to have 2 groups as discussed before. Peerimus, possibly in animal form, maybe a mouse, Selena and myself. That should give as a good combination of speed, stealth, and striking power. The first group finds a way into the house, either Selene can open a window or we quietly break one.
The other group acts as a distraction and then backup when we finally need help. Thing that concerns me is that the guards aren't necessarily evil. We can't just start blowing everyone up with fireballs and lightning bolts. I am sure some of these people have lost family and suffered other losses in the recent events. We don't want to cause more grief.
Can you think of any ruses. Travelling salespeople maybe or refugees begging for aid maybe. Something to get you close to the entrance, provide a distraction, and not kill anyone?
Firn'gaer Tuesday December 13th, 2005 2:17:53 PM
"Well, we don't look like refugees and what salesman would wandering on the Gold Level with what has happened lately." He says at the monks suggestion. "I understand all have lost in what's happened. Sly thinks this elf is very important. Important enough to go on his own if needed. Pull punches if you wish, but these guards maybe more shapeshifters in which case it they will not go down easily." He says. "But I was actually thinking of a bolt at the front door. Whatever we do it has to distract the rooftop eyes as well or the second group will be caught and then we have a two front fight. We know Selena can be invisible. I have a scroll that can be used, and Peerimus can use animal forms to be unseen. Once inside you'll all need to move quickly to find the elf and get out. With four of us out front, we may not have much time. Sly and Jaeden will form a line with Jasper and myself behind supporting."
He turns to the new cleric. "I understand Alemi's teachings, but many of the fights are deadly. You will need to be able to find a common ground between your faith and our goals."
Peerimus d20+13=28 d20+6=23 Tuesday December 13th, 2005 5:15:52 PM
"And I am sure Yorrick will not mind at all." Peerimus looks to Luke with a slight grin, "Try to stay out of trouble."
The group moves quickly across Gold level and arrives. Peerimus keeps his voice to a whisper "Townrow. Savin Selena and I will go around back. Firngaer, you mentioned a Ghost Sound spell. A loud something like a collapse may be just the initial distraction we need. We will move around back and wait for that as our signal to try and enter. It should at least turn a couple heads. Give us a good 4-5 minutes to get there."
Focusing on Savin, "Savin I will not be able to communicate as a cat. If we see no way in we are coming back here to come up with an alternate idea."
Then to all, "If all windows are shuttered, and doors closed, assaulting a home on the noble Gold level is a bad idea at best. We HAVE to get in without notice and those of you outside can not do anything that will bring the law running at full speed. Lightning bolts and such will do just that."
"Invisbility if you have it and if you don't stay here." with the last part Peerimus takes his ion stone down and becomes a standard domestic tabby cat. With a soft mew, he heads to the entrance. not bothering to hide, but keeping his ears and eyes open. [spot 28 listen 23]

Plans (DM/Al) d100=3 d20+11=16 d20+11=28 Tuesday December 13th, 2005 9:35:29 PM
Plans and strategy.
From the talk comes a somewhat general feeling against mayhem. The use of distractions. Possibly a ruse. A two pronged attack.
All of this, even before they have seen the residence, without any knowledge of what they might face.
"We who follow Alemi are healer," Jasper replies to Firn'gaer. "That does not mean that we are proscribed from force when the cause is good. Alemi himself succumbed to righteous wrath when presented with the atrocities of Gargulus."
Lady Silverhand waits silently. She does nothing, as though waiting for someone to provide her with a goal or action.
Peerimus alone, acts. He catches the gem that whirls about his head. Then he shrinks down into the form of a common domestic cat.
Peerimus the Cat walks the 100 feet up the street to the corner, tail high in the air. As soon as he turns onto the cross street, he sees the a guard on the steps of one of the town homes. This guard bears a shield, with a longsword at his hip, stands before the front door. Just beyond this guard at the door, is a second guard. This one is currently walking away from Peerimus. In his hand, this second guard carries a bow.
There are two windows on the ground floor. The one nearest Peerimus is shuttered. The one on the other side of the guard, however, is open. Up above the front door, on the Second Floor is a large window with a planter box underneath it. The window has double shutters that open in the center. The shutter to the east is open.
(Spot Check please, Peerimus.)
The guard on the stairs turns to look at the cat that has just turned the corner. He notes the cat, but does no more than that.
The rest of you are in the same position that you were in last round. (See the map in the previous post.)

Jasper (George) Tuesday December 13th, 2005 9:50:05 PM
Jasper adds, "I don't have many spells available for sneaking into residences but I do have a silence spell. It won't last long and Peerimus won't be able to cast spells in its effects but it will keep things quiet. I can cast it on a rock and you can toss it in front of you. Run up silently subdue the guards and then pick up the rock and keep moving."
Savin d20+13=24 d20+10=26 Tuesday December 13th, 2005 9:58:32 PM
Savin looks around the still empty street and says, I think we need to move and get a better view. I think I will climb this wall, (points at the yellow building) and see if I can work my way around the back. Give me five minutes. You might not want to loiter here to long. Head back down the street from where we came so we don't attract suspicion."
Savin then climbs the wall dc climb check of 24 and moves away down the street angling towards the right. When he gets close, he will slink to his belly and crawl forward to take a look at the front door. He will then crawl away until he thinks its safe that they won't be able to see him because the building is in the way, rise to his feet and circle around to the right, trying to scope out the backside of the building.

He nodds to Peerimus' suggestion. "Don't know if it will be oud enough, but I'll give it a try."
A sigh is all that comes from the wizard. "My point was we can't pass for anything other than what we are, adventurers. We're armed to the teeth, dressed in items as fine as any nobleman and we carry ourselves in a way that tells any that wea are skilled. In other words, we can't act like anything other than what we are."
Savin scampers up the wall, "Be careful and keep you eyes open."
Selena (RichP) Wednesday December 14th, 2005 11:26:26 AM

Girl, what have you gotten yourself into this time.

And Reconnoiter (DM/Al) d100=16 d100=24 d100=86 Wednesday December 14th, 2005 9:16:15 PM Jasper suggests a Silence spell. Pretty clever for someone from a pacifist religion.
Savin climbs the wall of the eastern building. It's a tough climb. Tougher than before, as the vines have been cleared away. If not for the occasional ornate touch to the building facade, he would not have made the climb. As he nears the lip of the roof, he looks over his shoulder. Across the rooftops to the northwest, two guards kneel and look down into the street. They both wield bows. At the moment, both of their attentions are focused into the street below. But, given the number of adventurers with the ability to fly, can it be possible that they would not look up as well to ensure that they are not taken by surprise from above? There are no structures on the roof of the building that Savin has climbed. The far roof is also on the same level as the roof up to which he has climbed as well. The only cover that the monk might have is the lip of the roof where it meets the building. It is no more than 8-inches high, but it might be possible to crawl on his belly and hide below it's level. Otherwise, traveling across the rooftops might be pretty exposed.
(Spot check and INT check, Savin. And, if you wish to travel north along the building as you stated in your post, I'll need a Hide check as well.)
Sly picks up on Jaeden's idea. He staggers some 30 feet up the street by way of demonstration. Fortunately he does it fairly quietly, as the corner is only 70 feet away. (I placed you at N35 rather than M35, Sly.)
(BTW, if you want to pull off any sort of ruse involving acting, I think I'll need either bluff or disguise checks.)
Firn'gaer expresses his doubts as to their ability to deceive anyone given the group's appearance. And he moves up the street after Sly.
Lady Silverhand expresses her professional opinion before moving up between Sly and Firn'gaer and then whispering into her hand. Suddenly, she disappears.
Peerimus takes one last look and then turns to the eastern corner of the building, intent upon making his way around to the back. The guard with the bow takes a few paces then turns to walk back the other way. He sees Peerimus the Cat as well. But, like the guard at the door. He does nothing either. Peerimus walks north to the far corner. A side street to the east opens up. The side street is more of the same, high class shuttered Gold Level town homes. He turns the corner, and at the back of the building are two more guards. The back entrance has a smaller set of stairs leading up to a door less grand than the one out front. One guard stands on the steps. He too has shield and longsword. The second guard, walking the ground, like the one in front, wields a bow. There are two windows on the ground floor here. Both are shuttered. On the second floor are two windows as well. The one nearest Peerimus appears to be open.
The guard on the step notes the cat's appearance, but gives it no mind. The guard on the walk, however, raises his bow. "Damn cat," he mutters.
"Hey, leave off," the guard at the door says. "You never know who it might belong to."
"Damn cat," the guard with the bow mutters again. But the bowstring loses its tension, and he goes back to his walking his beat.

Savin d20+2=14 d20+13=17 Thursday December 15th, 2005 7:26:23 AM
Savin looks over the rooftops and quickly gets a feel for the layouts. He is sneaky but not that sneaky and feels he might be seen. He lets go of the walls and falls back down towards the ground, keeping one hand on the wall to slow his fall.
He looks at his friends and says, "There are two guards on the roof. This is gonna be a tough nut to crack. I did see one open window, well it least it wasn't shuttered. (not sure if I could see glass or not)We might need to rethink our thinking here. This might sound insane but what about walking up openly with our weapons sheathed and asking politely for the elf's release. That way we all stay together, we get near the house and we aren't breaking any local laws?"

Jasper "George" Thursday December 15th, 2005 7:29:42 AM
Jasper listens to Savin's idea and likes it. Being a follower of Alemi, he would prefer a non violent solution to this. "I could also go forward and talk to the guards. The priests of my brotherhood aren't known for their duplicity. I could put on my more formal robes (making some assumptions here :-)) and display my holy symbol. Maybe we could talk the elf out."

He'll will prepare for confrontation by checking the dagger in back of his neck (for a quick draw of the weapon). Sly also places three gold coins in between the fingers of his right hand(to add damage to the pounch he might have to throw) He does this as he stagers up the street. Not minding if he making too much noise, because sooner or later he'll have to make himself known.

The small tabby cat keeps an ear on the man with the bow as it slips by him to the man at the doorway. "Mew", comes a rather pityful little cry and the cat slows and sniffs low on the man's boot. His eyes trained up at the guard, one ear cocked behind him for the other. As if having decided he is not dangerous, the cat again "mew, rew" and then rubs the top of the boot with the side of its face. Spot 18, Listen 8

Knowing there's nothing he can do to help with the stealthy approach, Jaeden offers his assitance with Jaspers plan.
"If you like, I can act as your guard. I should be able to fit that role well enough."
Savin "Illegal post" Thursday December 15th, 2005 8:39:08 PM
Savin snaps his fingers and slaps himself in the head. "There are guards up on the roof. They had to get there somehow. If we can get to the roof, there might be a less guarded way in. Wonder if we head down a block or two, wehre the guards can't see us, get onto the one of the roofs of a building farther down the street but on the same side, we might be able to rush the guards on the roof or put them to sleep or something. Then we can all stay together and get into the house.
Jasper could use his silence spell and if we move quickly enough, we might be able to spring this elf chieftan and get out of the city. We will need to find out where he is being held. Hope Peerimus is able to figure out that information. This has got to be better than trying to fake our way in. They look to suspicious for that." Clearly the young monk likes this plan. The enthusasium is evident in his voice.
Firn'gaer Thursday December 15th, 2005 8:42:23 PM
Sly moves up into position for a confrontation and Firn'gaer looks to the others with an It's On look on his face.

Don't Move a Muscle (DM/Al) d20+11=30 d20+17=21 Thursday December 15th, 2005 9:30:10 PM Savin returns back to the ground, the merest touch against the wall slowing his fall 30 feet from the roof above. He tells the others of the two guards on the roof. And, he proposes a novel and non-violent solution. To simply ask for the elf's release. The idea appeals to the pacifist in Jasper. Jaeden too, offers his assistance with the plan.
What reaction they might be expecting from armed men hired to prevent the elf from falling into the hands of others is anyone's guess.
Sly moves around invisible Lady Silverhand, and continues up the street alone. He goes without consulting with the others, and leaving the others behind, he prepares for combat. The half-elf makes it to within 10 feet from the corner, when Jaeden hisses for him to returns. Around the corner, Sly hears footfalls approach. Then they stop.
(Sly, up to now, your Move Silently has been optional. Now, however, you must make a Move Silently check if you wish to move and remain undiscovered.)
Firn'gaer metaphorically throws up his hands as he watches Sly walk rashly toward the corner. He follows, prepared for the worst. He too tries to call Sly back.
Lady Silverhand hurries ahead of the impatient Bladesinger. Confident in her invisibility, she quietly rounds the corner to find that a guard with a bow is little more than 15 feet away. And he is facing right in her direction. Does he see her? Does he not see her? What should she do?
(Note that invisibility is not a guarantee against being detected. See the rules on Spot.)
(Also Note that Selena is the only one who can see what is around the corner. Though both Sly and Firn'gaer hear the footsteps come to a halt.)
At the rear of the building, Peerimus the Cat approaches the guard on the steps. The guard with the bow turns and begins pacing the length of the town home's rear in the other direction. Peerimus looks up at the open window on the second floor. But he can make nothing out in the shadows within.
Peerimus the Cat approaches the guard on the stairs. The man displays an uncomfortable frown as the Cat takes a liking to him.
"HAW!" the guard with the bow guffaws. "'S what you get, you know. Give 'im the boot. Damn things give me the willies."
"Shut up. We don't need any unnecessary blood," the guard on the stairs replies. "Not even a cat's." And he pushes Peerimus firmly away with a booted foot. Though not a cat-hater, he is clearly not moved. On his face is a look of professional dispassion.

On the far side of the building, Peerimus the Cat continues to mew and pace around the guard on the stairs. For now, he keeps a stony face, watching for potential threats. The guard with the bow, eyes the cat as though just itching to put an arrow into it. He turns just beyond the western border of the town home and paces back the other way.
Back at the Front of the Town Home, Lady Silverhand freezes, then takes more care to hide herself, molding to the corner of the building. The guard blinks, and then all thought of an invisible something are pushed from his mind, when he hears the snap and rustle of movement from around the corner.
(Note: Jaeden, N3 is way off the map, so I placed you at N30.)
The guard with the bow raises his hand.
(Listen check vs DC 25 to hear the following from around the corner: Highlight to display spoiler: {There is the quiet and subtle rattle of a shutter as it is pulled along it's track. There is also the familiar sound of steel as it is freed from a sheath.})

There is a armored half-elf with his face to the wall. The half-elf has a sword sheathed at his side. At the moment, he is reaching for his fly. But, there is a dagger in his hand.
In the half-elf's shadow is an unassuming and unarmored man with a pack on his back. He carries a staff with him. Directly across from him is an essentially unarmed and unarmored gnome. Both unarmed man and gnome look suspiciously as though they might be trying to hide. Though where they think they might hide in this open street is anyone's guess.
Just beyond them is an old man in priestly robes. And beyond him is an heavily armored fighting man with an extremely large sword. He too, faces the wall, leaning in with a hand to his crotch.
Much further down the alley is an horse equipped with baldric.
=====
To the eye of any experienced fighter, this guard is clearly now on the alert. The people before him trigger his suspicion. The way they look. The way they are arrayed across this quiet side-street, on a quiet morning in Gold Level. The half-elf with the dagger in hand most particularly.
But the Wold is full of odd things. And one does not develop his level of experience by shooting at everything.
"You folks lost?" he asks. "Can I help you find something?"
If you do not roll Hide or Move Silently, I will assume that you are NOT hiding or moving silently. If you do not take care, bad things will happen.
Remember, if you indicate movement without specifying the coordinates of a square to move to, I will attempt to interpret your wishes to the best of my ability. If it is not what you had in mind, it cannot be changed.
We are not in combat rounds. But, you may have noticed that I have not always moved you to your desired square. I have sometimes chosen to stop you when you reach a point at which you might wish to make a decision.

Peerimus knows this is going nowhere and no cat would be persistant with no responce much longer, so the Tabby turns and heads back around the corner. Hugging the wall as he goes, Should be able to get to S7 coming around towards the Front.
The druid is wide eyed and alert as he moves off. [Spot 30 Listen 18] Hopefully Savin and Selena have been delayed by something other than what Peerimus fears.

Savin d20+9=21 Sunday December 18th, 2005 10:44:26 PM
Savin sees that his hiding is pathetic and the guard sees him. He decided to take a different approach. He will call out with his arms extended, "Thank the Gods your human. We have seen more manor of critters running around here." Savin will rise to his feat and purposely stumble towards the guard. "Large purple orcs that put their victims asleep and carry them off to who knows where, big shambling plant creatures who club you to death, even bigger creatures that snatch you with long tenacles and just slurp you down. Lost a good friend to one of those. Please you have to help us.
We are a travelling troop of entertainers. I play instruments, juggle and dance. Jaeden is our strong man, piss boy over there helps run stages and can do an occassional tumble. Our group is called the Chaos Kiddies. Have you ever heard of us? We generally play to rich noblemen's kids. Birthday parties and so on. We are originally from the Plateau City, came over a week or so ago and got caught in this mess.
The old guy is our main actor. Way to serious but the boss doesn't have the heart to let him go. Where is the boss, she is a beautiful lady and can she dance! Sometimes we get invited to parties where their are no kids if you know what I mean, just because of her dancing. I think she is looking for her cat.
I don't suppose you could spare some water? and maybe a morsel of food. Thinks have been hard lately. We have been dodging monsters and hiding a lot. Then we got all tumbled around. A brick landed on Jeffi's head when that happened and killed him. If you let us in, we can do a performance for you. Won't even charge, well if you could spare some food that would be nice."
Savin will stare right into the guards eyes with his own baby blues looking as sincere as possible. Perform roll 21
DM/Al - OoC Sunday December 18th, 2005 11:56:03 PM
I'll need to know what you're performing, Savin. Either that, or, if you are fabricating, which it very much appears that you are doing, I'll need a Bluff roll.
Savin d20+1=18 Monday December 19th, 2005 7:34:32 AM

Sly puts up his act, to give Peerimus the time he wants.
Savin illegal post Monday December 19th, 2005 2:50:33 PM
Savin looks over to Sly and sighs, then he looks at the guard and smiles, "My friend here decided to handle the stress of the last few days by crawling into a bottle. If I didn't know he very long, I think I would take him up to the next level and push him off. He is a miserable drunk."
Jaeden Ohm d20=1 Monday December 19th, 2005 3:10:30 PM
Jaeden stumbles towards Sly, a big fat grin on his face. "Yeah you hear that... I'm the strong man fer this 'ere band..." He holds his arms up to flex but looses the pose as he again leans heavily into the wall. He recovers, still stumbling towards sly.
"And this here is my trusty steed... hey wait, where..." He looks back, shocked. "What are you doin all the way back there horse? Damned animals." He shrugs a scowl away and continues his stumbling way towards sly.

Firn'gaer watches the little scene unfold. He thinks Sly and Savin are believeable enough no matter how rediculous the story seems. Jaeden joins in for his part and Firn'gaer can't help to let the cat out of the bag as he hears the fighters try at subterfuge. His own attempt to contain himself having gone really awry decides he's had enough play acting.
"Oh, Gods. I give up. We're here to rob you. Figure with all the guards have to be something valueable in there." He says as he completes an incantation.
As he finishes, five missile fly out and strike G2. (Empowered Magic Missiles: 1.5 x 20 = 30 points)

Selena keeps an eye on both sides. Allied with the Children of Chaos out of necessity, but knowing little of them. She doesn't trust what she doesn't know. The performance is bad in her eyes. The guard can't be that dumb, or maybe he can. Then Jaeden and Firn'gaer talk and she knows they can't be that stupid.
*Magic Missiles fly*
Nearly startled in to revealing her position, she moves as quiet as possible around the corner. As she does, she draws her dagger.
Better safe then sorry...
She bids her time as the combat begins. If she needs to, she'll act.
Start Me Up (DM/Al) d20+4=13 d20+13=16 d20+13=24 d8+4=11 Monday December 19th, 2005 8:18:53 PM
Call it instinct, Peerimus gives up on his attempt to charm the guard at the door. Springing away, he comes around the corner, and moves in the direction of the front of the Town Home.
Savin lifts his arms dramatically and weaves a tale of a performing troupe. The guard with the bow frowns and narrows his eyes. Less from a sense of wrongness, than from the barage of overly loud theatrics.
Sly and Jaeden continue their drunk act. For some reason the Strongman isn't as convincing. But since when was being unconvincing an offense?
Then the gnome begins shouting in a threatening tone. The words "rob you" fail to make sense in this context. But the five bolts of light speak much louder than words. The guard cries out as the magic missiles sear his flesh.
As the madness erupts, Lady Silverhand withdraws, silent and invisible. Peerimus arrives at the front of the building. He detects something invisible, somewhere nearby. The scent of Lady Silverhand tells him the direction. Before him, smoke is rising from the guard with the bow. Further down the street, the guard on the steps pounds on the door with the pommel of his sword.
"Attack! Front is under attack!" he shouts.
Even further down the street, Peerimus catches the shutter of the far window as it slides closed. There is the sound of it latching.
=====
The guard with the bow quickly draws an arrow and lets loose a shot at the gnome who fired the magic missiles. (Hit AC16) The arrow, however, glances off of an invisible field that surrounds the gnome.
A second arrow, however, lances down from above. (Hit AC24, Damage 11hp) The arrow strikes Firn'gaer. There is a guard on the roof, also armed with a bow.
The guard with the bow on the ground quick retreats, drawing back around the corner and out of the view of all but Peerimus the Cat and Selena.

Sly now can see the guard on the roof, faces that direction, raises his hand uttering "Poo! Poo!" and two magic missles fly into the Guard with the bow on the roof (Damages 10 hp). Sly (taking his second attack) says "Poo! Poo!" again hits it's victim (Damages 8hp).
"Alright! Gang! Let's Get The Gold!" he shouts, But to Jaeden, "Come On! Strongman! Let's do what we do best."

"Sly focus on the the roof. Jaeden move up with Savin and focus on one guard at a time. Hustle, we need to move quickly." The gnome starts shouting taking command in the absense of Peerimus.
"Jasper stablize the guard as they fall." He glances back to the cleric. "I'd like no one to die today."

Jaeden drops the charade as all hell breaks loose. The warrior is at a complete and utter loss as to how to proceed. While not convinced in the slightest of the 'righteousness' of their actions, Firngaers appearant confidence is enough to spur the confused man into action. He hustles forward [hustle to M18], drawing his massive blade as he moves.
Holing Up - Round 01 (DM/Al) d20+13=30 d20+8=20 d20+13=15 d20+8=27 d8+4=12 Tuesday December 20th, 2005 9:08:39 PM Sly chants and weaves an incantation. Three missiles of glowing light fly from his fingertips and slam into the bowman on the roof.
(Sly, spells are not like weapon attacks. You need to read the Casting Time part of the spell to see how long it takes. But, generally, you don't get more than one spell per round. However, you're a 5th Level Wizard. That means you should get 3 magic missiles, not 2. So I'll add the third magic missile from your second set of rolls to your damage. That's 13hp damage not 10hp. And you still have one Magic Missile spell left.)
Savin zips quickly around the corner and throws the bow wielding guard to the ground. His follow up strike leaves the man reeling.
Jasper holds his hands palm outwards, forming the holy symbol of Alemi. With his chanting, he reaches across the planes to pull forth an Ally in this battle. (Jasper, you may place the Bees next round and attack immediately. You must, however, place them within your field of vision. You cannot see around the corner.)
Peerimus goes from Cat to Bird. With a flap of his wings, he climbs steeply into the air, rising to the level of the second story windows.
Dripping blood from an arrow wound, Firn'gaer sees to his protection. Then, issuing instructions to all, he heads up to the corner to survey the situation.
Crafty and invisible, Lady Silverhand, lies in wait. Her dagger is at the ready. It will drink from any guard unfortunate enough to pass by.
His boots giving him that extra added spring, Jaeden charges up the street, a clanking juggernaut in full plate armor. He arrives next to Savin, Greatsword at the ready.
=====
The guard with the bow, prone on the street, scrambles away from Savin and toward his partner on the stairs. (Withdraw no AoO.)
The guard with the sword, slams on the door again with the pommel of his weapon. "OPEN! NOW!" he shouts. The door opens. Both guards quickly scramble inside. Then the door slams shut. There is the sound of a bar falling into place.
Suddenly, another guard leans out (G9) the second story window. With a longbow, he fires two shots at Savin. (Hit AC30, AC20) The first arrow flies unerringly toward the monk. But, with startling reflexes, Savin bats the feathered shaft out of the air in mid flight. The second arrow, he has time to dodge, simply not being in the same position as it follows it's mate.
The guard on the roof (G12), fires back at Sly. (Hit AC15, AC27, Damage 12hp) The first arrow glances from Sly's mithril shirt. The second, however, finds a gap in Sly's armor sinking deep into the Bladesinger's flesh.
The street is now empty. The front door and the ground floor shutters are closed and with all likelihood, locked. All three appear to be strong wooden fixtures. From within the Town Home, there come the sounds of muffled shouts. There is a window open on the second floor. A guard is standing in the window with a bow. Another bowman is on the roof.
The party is outside with virtually no one to fight. What's more, there is no telling what is going on inside. How many are in there? What are they doing? And what of Prionel?

Jasper directs his two bees to attack the guard on the roof. Both buzz in and one gets a possible critical hit. It does 3 points of damage and the guard needs to make a fort save dc 11 or take 4 cons points damage. it will also try to smite evil and do an extra 3 points of damage if the guard is evil. The bee then dies as its stinger is gone.
Jasper moves forward o21 and casts a bless on the group. He will center it on P19 and it gets a 50' burst so everyone should benefit from its effects. Every one gets +1 on attack rolls and saves vs fear for 10 minutes.
Jaeden Ohm (AC 25 HP 97/97) Tuesday December 20th, 2005 11:38:15 PM
The guards now closed up tight in the townhouse, Jaeden presses his back up flat against the wall of the building [5' step to m17]. His position leaves him with a clear view of most of his group and a few seconds to think...
"What in the hells are we doing?" the warrior bellows. He looks about to say more but instead tightens his lips and holds position.
By the Gods I hope Peerimus can get in and find out if this Elf is even alive... this is crazy!

"I have and idea. Sly continue to focus on the roof. Savin be ready, I'm going to get you inside. Oh, be ready to climb. Jaeden you'll be next." Moving up Firn'gaer focuses his thoughts and his normal small form changes to that of a huge tree, treant. Now looking into the second floor window he faces the second floor archer on very different terms.

Overwhelming Force - Round 02 (DM/Al) d20+7=15 Wednesday December 21st, 2005 11:28:28 PM
Two Giant Celestial Bees appear at the edge of the roof. At Jasper's direction, they attack the guard with the bow. He flinches as one of the Bees strikes through his armor, but he does not seem to succumb to the Bee's poison. (Fort Save 15) The Bee, guts leaking from it's abdomen, drops to the roof and disappears. Jasper himself hurries forward and calls the blessings of Alemi upon his companions.
Jaeden hugs the wall for cover against the arrows and cries in outrage. How could the battle look to his eye? His group initiating an unprovoked attack. His group holding a clear superiority. What are they doing? What sort of group has he fallen in with?
Firn'gaer prepares the rest for an idea he has. Then, moving out into the street, he grows. And he grows. And he grows. Skin turned to bark, he towers over the street. The top of his head reaches the same level as the roof. Rufus, clings to a branch, holding on for dear life. Across the roof, Firn'gaer can see another guard at the opposite corner of the Town Home. (Spot check, Firn'gaer. And INT check.)
Peerimus flies. For all he's worth, he flies. A tight bank around the corner reveals the two guards down below. Both have weapons drawn now. Both are on alert. Both hold their position, guarding the door. If either sees the raven, neither pays it any heed. Up above, Peerimus the Raven now also sees the second guard on the roof. The same guard that Firn'gaer sees from the front. This guard too watches up and down the street for approaching foes. And ... the thing he was hoping for, the window that he had seen open on his first visit to the back of the Town Home ... it's open. It's still open.
Sly rushes around Firn'gaer the Treant, and comes up just next to Jaeden. The dagger in his hand, he throws up at the bowman above. It's a far throw for a dagger. With the Bee in the way, it's a very difficult throw. Very difficult. (* Sly, see my notes below) Still, Sly's aim is true. The dagger strikes home with a meaty thud. Then, magically, the dagger pulls itself loose, and flies back down toward Sly. (You will be able to catch and use the dagger just before your next turn, Sly.)
Savin reacts late, but makes up with it in speed. Instead of climbing the wall, he uses Firn'gaer's new form and quickly ascends to the roof, coming up next to a suprised guard. One thing Savin now sees clearly. Something that he missed on is first climb on the building across the way. There is a trap door in the roof. It is across the roof at the northwest corner of the Town Home.
=====
Faced with a Giant Bee, an even greater giant Treant, and Savin's startling appearance on the roof next to him, the guard on the flees across the roof.
The bowman in the Front Second Story Window, chooses wisely not to attack the Treant. Instead, he closes the shutter. There is the sound of a latch falling into place.
Despite the sounds from the front, the guards in the back hold their position.
"Pull back! Pull back!" It's the voice of the injured guard on the roof. Sounds like he's a bit overwhelmed. The guard near the trap door drops his bow. He draws a rapier and opens the trap door in preparation to descend.
=== OOC ===
Apologies for posting a bit early. But I have a dinner to attend tonight.
STATUS ====== Peerimus is 17 feet in the air. Dalek is back down the Alley off the map at O43

Remember, if you indicate movement without specifying the coordinates of a square to move to, I will attempt to interpret your wishes to the best of my ability. If it is not what you had in mind, it cannot be changed.
Please post AC and HP in the Name Field of your post.
* Explanations for Sly Foxx: Keep in mind that the Range Increment for a dagger is 10 feet. Each increment beyond 10 feet incurs a -2 penalty. In this case, the man is 30 vertical feet away. That's 2 increments beyond the dagger's range. -4 Penalty. Sly is also throwing a Ranged weapon into Melee combat. That's another -4 penalty. Amazingly, even with these penalties, Sly still managed to hit. But please remember the range.
As to Returning. A Returning Weapon will return to the spot from which it was thrown at the beginning of the next turn. In this case, Sly moved and then threw. The weapon will return to him. If Sly throws and then moves, it will return to the spot from which he threw it. And he will no longer be there to catch it. Actually a pretty neat weapon. But, you need to be there to catch it.

Savin sees an opportunity and winces but realizes the gloves might have to come off. He runs diaganally towards the west, not getting close enough to G12 to allow an AOO. He then charges G13 and tries to bullrush him off the roof. I will end up in E5 if I have to enter his square.

Suddenly Peerimus has very different feelings about the entire scene. The Kraken may have to wait.

Startled and the Startled - Update for Peerimus (DM/Al) Thursday December 22nd, 2005 6:26:44 PM
Peerimus the Raven glides the remainder of the way and into the open window.
Surprise, surprise. Standing in the window is another bow wielding guard. The man jumps back, eyes surpised. He drops his bow and reaches for a rapier at his hip.

Sly (AC 25 73/85 hp) d20+6=9 Thursday December 22nd, 2005 7:15:28 PM
Sly catches the dagger, "Wow! Jaeden IT work? that dagger came back to me." Then they hear Savin that they can get in by the trap door up there. "Alright! A way in! come on Strong man, give me a push." Sly after puting the dagger between his teeth. Start to climb Firm-gare, Sorry! I hope I don't hurt you!" as he slips down the bark.

Peerimus AC 19 HP 103 (Brown Bear) Thursday December 22nd, 2005 8:46:11 PM
Instead of cat Peerimus decides stealth is over for him as well. A Great Grizzly shifts and expludes from the Small Raven that was before the guard not a moment ago. Is the bear grinning at him?
Jasper ac23 hps 96 d20+2=13 d20+2=10 Thursday December 22nd, 2005 9:20:56 PM
The giant bee takes a AOO on the g12 as he backs away from him. Then buzzes over and tries to sting him again to no avail but he keeps harrassing and distracting the guard.
Jasper looks at the fighter and shrugs his shoulders. "Some restraint is needed but the foe are using deadly force. They could have just holed up, so they aren't the nicest people either. Sounds like they are holding an elf hostage." He shrugs his shoulders again and says, "Alemi will let me know his displeasure I am sure. I think we must support our new allies anyway and give them a tongue lashing later.
Jasper then reaches out and touches Jaeden and casts bullstrength on him. "Go and fight my son. Things might only get worse if you don't. Lets end this as quickly as we can."
Firn'gaer (Treant) - AC24, HP 88 d20+4=16 d20+6=18 Thursday December 22nd, 2005 10:40:34 PM
Firn'gaer now grabs Jaeden and puts him on the roof next to Savin, providing the fighter allows it.
Selena - Invisible Thursday December 22nd, 2005 10:42:46 PM
The thief moves to T8, towards the back of the building. The druid flew that direction, but there may be an easier way in considering the ruckus out front.
They're In! - Round 03 (DM/Al) 3d6(3+4+1)=8 d20+10=13 2d6(3+5)=8 Thursday December 22nd, 2005 10:53:59 PM Savin rushes to secure the trapdoor. He takes a curved path to avoid the first guard, even though the man is armed with a bow. (No Charge. Charge requires an unobstructed straight line path.) The monk bulls into the second guard, who flails his arms as he goes over the side of the roof.
Peerimus finds himself in a smallish room with a startled guard. He shifts again, swelling to fill the room. The guard's eyes open even larger, and he flees through a partially open door deeper into the interior of the building. "THEY'RE IN! THEY'RE IN!" he shouts. Through the door, Peerimus can see another guard standing at the top of a staircase. He too appears startled, but not for long. He leaps to the door and pulls it shut. From beyond the closed door, a voice is shouting something about "Druid", "Tionel", and "Giant Bear".
(Peerimus: Spot vs DC10 for the following: Highlight to display spoiler: {The door appears activated by a toggle set on top of a handle. The toggle is depressed with the thumb to lift a latch mechanism within the door. Then the handle is pulled to open the door. It is designed for a human hand. It appears a Good Wooden Door.})
Sly catches the dagger as it returns to him from above. He places the dagger between his teeth and then attempts to follow Savin up the Treant. No luck. Sly can't find a handhold anywhere and he stays on the ground. He mutters an apology, which no one can understand because he has a dagger between his teeth. (You won't be able to cast a spell with the dagger between your teeth.)
Instead of following the others up to the roof, Jaeden crosses the street again and consults with the priest of Alemi. These are fighting men, much as he. And his conscience finds it difficult to cut them down with the savage abandon with which the others do.
The Bee continues to attack the guard with the bow without success. (No AoO. The guard did nothing but Withdraw.)
Father Jasper attempts to explain the Jaeden the importance of action within a crisis, and the wisdom of leaving a moral reckoning until later. He casts a spell, and Jaeden feels his limbs swell with power.
Firn'gaer reaches down to give Jaeden a lift. (Jaeden, you are at N16 on the roof should you wish, instead of your current position on the map.)
Lady Silverhand heads for the rear of the building. She hears the tremendous crash of metal and the sound of footsteps from around the corner.
=====
Down below at the Back of the Town Home, Savin can see the two guards below look upwards as their companion on the roof crashes two stories to the hard paved street. Rather than fire at Savin, the guard with the bow (G6) moves to see if the guard formerly on the roof (G13( is badly injured. The guard on the steps (G4) holds his position.
The other Roof Guard (G12) continues to retreat from the Bee. Savin is just far enough away from the trapdoor to allow the man to rush over to it an drop down within. (Jump Down 13 vs DC15) Both Savin, and Peerimus in the room next door, hear a clatter of armor as he crashes to the floor below.
[i](Savin, Listen vs DC15 to hear the following from down inside the trapdoor: Highlight to display spoiler: {The click of a door opening.})
Peerimus hears a deep and commanding voice shout, "Hold him down!"

Firn'gaer seeing Jaeden is not going to get on the roof decides another action, two prong attack. Stepping a little ways down the street the massive treant swings at a enclosed window on the sencond floor of the the target building.

Sly attemps to climb the tree, this time he get a hand hold and pull himself up(climb 26) as far as he can go, hope ing that he does not land on his butt again.
Details Details - More Details for Savin And Peerimus (DM/Al) Friday December 23rd, 2005 8:30:52 AM
Savin turns away from the roof's edge just in time to see the other guard disappear through the trapdoor and crash down to the floor below. The trapdoor itself is, of course, still open. There is a ladder affixed to the wall just across the gaping square of the trapdoor from Savin. (That's a Climb vs DC0 for 1/4 speed. DC5 for 1/2 speed. Jumpdown vs DC15 and take 1d6 damage. In this case the 15 feet down is included in your movement. Fall through the trap door as the guard did and take 2d6 damage, but the distance is not included in your movement.)
As Peerimus eyes the door, he also observes that it is sized for a creature of medium build. In this form, it's going to be something of a squeeze for him to fit through. (Escape Artist check vs DC10 or become stuck in the door. You can make this as part of a move action, but you lose Dex to AC. If you get stuck in the door, a STR check vs DC10 will allow you to wrench free to the other side. This will require another move action.)
Firn'gaer, you are correct in all of your assumptions.

Firn'gaer strides over the top of Sly Foxx, moving down in front of the Town Home. With a mighty branch, he strikes the shutter in the center window above the door. With a tremendous BANG the shutters come off their hinges and fall inwards.
Sly has to cross ten feet of street to catch up with Firn'gaer. But, when he does, he takes firm hold of the branches around him and climbs up another 10 feet. But, Sly is on the wrong side of Firn'gaer. Still 25 feet of horizontal distance from the open window. (Sly, there are some DC numbers and distances that may be of interest to you in the OoC section.)
Jaeden thuds across the roof past the buzzing Celestial Bee. When he arrives at the open trap door, he sees the ladder affixed to the wall. It's an easy climb. But climbing would require time. Would a jump down hurt so much? He also sees the guard who just dropped down through. The guard looks up, startled to see the armored man who was just down on the street but moments ago.
Peerimus bulls forward. Under the force of the mighty bear, the hasp of the door gives way. The door itself slams into a guard standing just on the other side, knocking him back five feet.
When Peerimus the Bear steps through the door, he sees a much larger room filled with guards. In the southwest corner two guards stand above an elderly elf. One guard holds a longsword in his hand (G7), as do almost all of the others. The other guard, larger, and more imposing, wields a bastard sword in one hand (G10). This man is most likely the Leader. To the southeast is a set of stairs. Two more guards are climbing up from below. The ones furthest back (G15 & G16) are only partially armored. Directly to the south is a single door that is partially open. Through the door, he catches the barest glimpse of an open window. Could that have been the loud crash he heard earlier?
The elderly elf lies prone on the floor. He is gagged, his hands are bond before him, his feet are bound together, and his fingers are peacebound.
Savin, activates his cloak, and then steps to the trapdoor next to Jaeden. He too sees the guard down below. But, without hesitation, he steps into the trapdoor. With nothing but a light touch against the wall, the monk floats like a spectre, down to the floor next to the guard. There is a door in the south wall. It is partially open. Through this door, Savin sees the same thing that Peerimus does. From next door, he hears the growl of a bear.
Lady Silverhand creeps the remaining way to the corner and peers around it. Down the street one guard is helping another up off the ground. A third, stands on the back steps of the Town Home, keeping vigilant watch. The wounded guard and the one helping him move closer to the steps where the wounded one sits. The other guard glances around, watching for enemies and readies an arrow.
Jasper, from the far side of the street, watches, waiting for a sign from his god. On the roof, the Celestial Bee buzzes angrily.
=====
On the Second Floor of the Town Home, pandemonium reigns. The shouts of fighting men come from all parts of the Town Home.
"THE FRONTS BEEN BREECHED! THE FRONTS BEEN BREECHED!"
"A GIANT BEAR! IT'S A GIANT BEAR!"
"WATCH THE BACK! HOLD THE BACK DOOR!"
As Savin floats down through the trapdoor, the guard below takes a half-hearted, opportunistic swipe. (AoO Hit AC19) Then, without staying to fight, he bolts through the door. Savin hears a gasp of surprise from the man as he sees that his room is far from safe either. In the northwest corner is a giant bear.
Two guards step up to defend against Peerimus. (G11 and G3) The one pushed back by the door (G8) drops his bow and draws a rapier, striking once.
G11/Longsword: Hit AC20, AC12, Damage 12hp G8/Rapier: Hit AC17 G3/Longsword: Hit AC14, AC25 (Crit Threat AC25: Crit), Damage 13+13 = 26hp

Above the shouts of men and the ring of steel, the Leader's voice calls out.
"WE'VE BEEN COMPROMISED!!! PULL OUT!!! PULL OUT AND RENDEZVOUS!!! NOW!"
Peerimus hears his next words. Savin, from the other room, might hear the words as well. The words may even come to the ears of the Treant outside.
"I"m sorry," the leader says to the bound form of the elf at his feet. "I am truly very sorry."
Twice, the bastard sword rises and falls. Twice comes the thud of steel against flesh and bone, and the blood of the innocent sprays across the room.

The message relayed, the warrior jumps down the open trap door, landing in a half knee position and looking around [jump 20 + modifier?]. He rises and steps through the door [move to F8] only to see the slain Elf and an enraged Savin.
Jaeden pieces together what he thinks must have happened and quickly his earlier hesitation vanishes. He cocks his greatsword back over his right shoulder, point aimed at the nearest guard [G11]. Peerimus lashes out at the guard nearest to the stairs. None of his blows connect.
Savin tumbles past the guards in the room and comes up near the bloody form of the elf. He lashes out with a painful kick, but the leader of the guards shakes off the blow. (Fort 18)
Outside, Jasper cries out to Firn'gaer to lift him up there ... somewhere.
Towering above, Firn'gaer drives blows into the outer wall of the Town Home. Plaster explodes from the facade, but the Masonry Wall holds fairly firm. It will take a few more blows of the same kind to take out parts of this thick wall. Firn'gaer can see a door on the north wall. Beyond it is where the action seems to be. But he's at an oblique angle to the window. It's difficult to see from there.
Lady Silverhand replaces Dagger with Bow. From the corner, she can hear shouts and footsteps from within the Town Home. There's definitely something going on inside. Sounds like mayhem.
Jaeden shouts over the rooftop for Jasper. Then he drops down through the Trapdoor. His legs take up the impact. Then he steps into the room. The blood, the elderly elf bound and gagged on the floor. He sizes up the situation, and one of the guards gets the point of his Greatsword in the throat. A spray of bright arterial blood comes Jaeden's way.
Dalek, meanwhile, keeps watch at the far end of the alley. Further to the southwest, he can hear traffic from the main road. In the opposite direction, the priest is lifting his hands to be picked up. Muffled sounds of pain and death come from just a little ways beyond.
=====
Amid the spraying blood and the furious action, the elderly elf upon the floor moves. He is writhing in pain.
"GET READY TO PULL OUT! ON MY MARK!" The leader grits his teeth at the pain in his ribs and shouts out the order. He raises his bastard sword for the killing blows.
Suddenly, the elder elf becomes a large dark snake. The gag and bindings fall away, and the elf turned snake tenses to flee. But where to go? There is a horrendous battering of the house from the south. The newcomers are attacking the guards. That is all he knows. The snake flees north through the door from which both Savin and Jaeden had come. (Savin and Jaeden, you may take one Attack of Opportunity against Prionel if you would like.)
As the snake speeds across the floor, each of the guards within reach cut at him. Each draws blood.

The Leader eyes the armored man with the Greatsword standing before the door through which his captive has just escaped. He takes in the enormous bear and the man who had just delivered a powerful blow to his ribs. He pictures what must be battering at the walls out front.
"PULL OUT! NOW! GO, GO, GO!!!"
Outside, in the back of the Town Home, Lady Silverhand sees the door burst open. The guards already outside flee to the west, away from her. As she watches seven more guards follow them from within the Town Home. And three more emerge, on their way.
On the second floor. Those already on the stairs, pull back rapidly, leaving space for the three facing Peerimus and Jaeden to follow. The three guards on the west side of the room, however, including the Leader are trapped. Taking defensive stances, they make their way by Savin. (Savin, you may take one Attack of Opportunity against each one of them, G7, G10, and G12. Their AC's are listed below.)
The Leader, lags behind. Swinging the point of his bastard sword from first Savin, then Jaeden, and then Peerimus, he covers the retreat of his men.

Savin Tuesday December 27th, 2005 11:41:30 PM
Savin forgoes the AOO on the guardsmen and yells out to the others, "Guards are coming out! Let them pass! Prionel is still alive! Jasper get up here!"
He then looks at the Captain and says, "You seem to be a good man. Go in peace. I would think about getting another employeer though. This one doesn't seem to be honorable."
Savin will then move towards Prionel avoiding any AOO and pull out a potion. "Sir we have been sent to free you by a group called the Crimson Shields. We are friends. Drink this. It is a healing potion."
Jaeden Ohm (AC25 HP 97/97) Wednesday December 28th, 2005 12:57:21 AM
Jaeden spares Savin a quick incredulous glance. "Good man... he just tried to assassinate a bound and gagged prisoner..."
Both hands hold firm to his greatsword, hands low and point very much alive and aimed at the leader. "Leave quickly and quietly you murderous ass, I've a mind to strike you down right now... It is only the fact that I've no doubt you were following orders of another that stays my hand."
The warrior knows that the others are better suited to tend to the Elf/Snake and so he moves with the guards, covering their exit. He keeps a good 10-15 feet away but makes sure that they all do indeed leave.
Sly (AC 25 73/85 hp) d20+6=20 Wednesday December 28th, 2005 8:44:48 AM
Sly Climbs or crawl toward the window or opening, All hell is bracking and again he feel that he's a poor Bladesinger, because the Chaos gang in there are having all the fun. But will try to get closer to the action.
Firn'gaer (Treant) - AC24, HP 88 Wednesday December 28th, 2005 10:31:20 AM
The treant reaches back and takes Jasper in hand and puts him in the second floor opening. As far in as he can the cleric is set down.
Peerimus AC 19 HP 65 103 (Brown Bear) 4d6(1+3+3+1)+4=12 Wednesday December 28th, 2005 8:44:23 PM
Peerimus can hardly believe his ears, but dismisses it as Savin obvioulsy did not witness the attempted murder first hand. Peerimus has no intention of letting the man go and is under no illusions that he is 'a good man', but he also wants a prisoner. The bear growls deep and throaty. The air shimmers with a pop and 4 ghostlike hornets appear and strike the would be commander. [Cast Hornet nest Subdual Damage 12]

Should I Stay or Should I Go Now - Round 06 (DM/Al) 3d8(8+3+2)+12=25 Wednesday December 28th, 2005 9:47:48 PM Savin allows the three remaining guards to depart. And, with a word of admonishment, enters the room into which the snake had fled. He drops the name of the Crimson Shields, and offers a potion of healing.
Jaeden too, allows the guards to depart. But his ideals are different. His parting words reflect the standards to which he would hold himself and those like him.
Sly continues his climb. At last, he reaches the window! through the partially open door, he sees Savin's back as the monk enters a door across the room. Jaeden holds his Greatsword, threatening someone who is out of view.
Firn'gaer plucks Jasper from the furthest extent of his reach, and lifts the cleric up to the Second Story Window.
Peerimus wants a prisoner. He casts a spell designed for non-lethal damage. The Leader of the guards, waves his hands about as he is stung by angry hornets. (Peerimus, I'll let this go for now, as it's success or failure has no appreciable affect on the action. But, keep in mind, that Hornets Nest takes a full round to cast, and therefore it's effects should take effect the round after.)
=====
The angry Hornets don't seem to slow the fleeing guards. The one's on the stairs hustle down with the thud of footsteps. The leader leaps the banister, landing on the stairs further down and follows. Their footsteps come up the stairs from down below. They sound as though they are heading for the rear of the building, but they have yet to exit.
The large snake eyes Savin, it's head moving from side to side. Then it morphs and grows, gaining height as it loses length. It once again becomes an elderly elf. His bearing and carriage are straight and strong, but his hair is silvered and he has wrinkles around his eyes. He wears a robe made of feathers, now covered in blood. And on his brow is a large ruby in a circlet. Though he may have been a captive, it appears that his captors did not stoop to looting his possessions.
"Thank you for all of your trouble," the elder elf replies. "But I did tell the Crimson Shields that I would go with these men willingly. There is much at stake here, and, as I told them, I am unimportant in the greater scheme of things." He draws a deep breath.
"Thank you," he says to Savin, refusing the vial of curative liquid. Instead, he weaves a spell, and his eyes close as his injuries and pain melt away.
When he opens his eyes, he speaks again. "Much has happened since I left my daughter with the Crimson Shields and went with Perimon's guards. Even in captivity, I could feel it around me. What did the Crimson Shields say? Why have they risked sending someone after me? Why risk turning the anger of the city upon my Sabra?"
The look in the elf's eyes is one of uncertainty. It is clear that he is here, at least in part, of his own free will. And, if that is the case, will he require convincing to get him to leave?
=== OOC ===
I'm keeping this in Combat Rounds in case you should wish to go after the guards. At this rate, they should be beyond reasonable pursuit after the next round.

Savin Wednesday December 28th, 2005 10:54:56 PM
Savin bows low to the elderly elf and says, "Sir I understand you are an ambassador for your people, but do you know what has happened? The jungle has attacked the city, leaving most of the city in ruins and killing off a large portion of the population. The city is now moving away from the jungle and the population, who fled to the shores of your jungle, are now returning.
Many will blame you for the loss of their loved ones. The lord who has kept you captive, seems to be an unscrupleous sort and would use their sense of loss and grief against you. My friends and myself aren't from the city and soon will be departing on a different quest. For political reasons it was deemed best if we came after you. We had the support of two other noble houses. You aren't without sympathy from them but you have to leave. The common citizen has suffered too much to be forgiving. Either fly away back home and let some time past or come with us and we will try to protect you. You must decide now."

Jaeden continues to cover the guards exit, still maintaining enough distance not to provoke an attack.
IF the guards exit...
With the guards gone Jaeden hurries back to the second floor, trusting Dalek to keep an eye on things.
"We need to hurry. It won't be long for the entire garrison to be on us."
"Elder, in truth the Shields did not send us... at least not as far as I know. One of our number is a Blade Singer and felt honor bound to come to your aid. As his companions we agreed to help. We may have made a terrible mistake in coming for you but whats done is done. After this, I don't think you'll want to go back with them if you care to live."
To the others in the room he says only "We need to be gone from here. Now."
The warrior heads back outside, calling Dalek to join him near the house.

Jasper touches the bear and many wounds vanish, though it does not appear Peerimus was too concernerd or bothered by them. The bear growls and shrinks, his form returning to that of Peerimus. A highly annoyed look upon his face. The druid whirls and moves back to the window for a view of the back calling behind him the druid talks fast and urgent.
"Jaeden is right, Gold Level will not respond well to giant plant creature blastin a building so soon after the Crying Woods attack. Someone confer that error in judgement to Firngaer. I will follow the guard as far as I am able. Sly, you are personally responsible for Perinon's safety, go with Jaeden."

All The Reasons - End of Combat Rounds (DM/Al) Thursday December 29th, 2005 9:39:32 PM
Savin begins building a case by which to persuade Prionel to leave.
Jasper comes into the main room. How he knows that the ferocious bear is Peerimus is a mystery. Yet, somehow, through some gift from Alemi, or through some connection with the forces of Chaos, the cleric knows. Approaching without fear, he heals the druid.
Jaeden takes heavy steps down the steps in pursuit of the fleeing guards. He reaches the bottom of the stairs and turns to the rear of the Town Home just in time to see the back of the Leader as he vanishes out the open doorway. Then he rushes back up the stairs, urging all to quickly leave as the guards may return with reinforcements at any moment. He also puts Savin to shame. In a stark demonstration of honesty, he reveals that the group was not sent by the Crimson Shields. Lawfulness, it appears, is not strictly the province of the Monk and the Paladin.
Sly enters after Jasper. The room is crowded, and he does not see the object of his rescue mission in the other room speaking with Savin. He asks where Dalek might be, on the off hand chance that someone will need to be carried?
At Jaeden's command, Dalek comes charging up the street, his hooves loud in the canyon between town homes. He pulls up short as Firn'gaer as a giant Treant moves away off to the west in hopes of seeing where the guards are fleeing too. He finds that rather than turning north as a regular block might, the street takes a sharp turn south. The way appears blocked.
Peerimus returns to human form and rushes to the back window. He shouts commands to his companions inside. As he leans out, he spies the two guards and the leader hustling west away from the Town Home. Just beyond the boundary of the building they are in, the street turns north, and the guards, disappear around the corner in full retreat.
=====
Prionel strides past Savin and into the room. Turning an eye to each of his rescuers, he stops at Sly Foxx.
"You are the only here with Elven Blood. You must be the Blade Singer. I understand the commitment that has driven you to come to my rescue, My Son," he says, and he lays a hand upon Sly's shoulder. "But you must understand that if I defy them, they may take out their anger upon my people or the Crying Woods itself."
"My life is unimportant, and I would gladly give it up, I would gladly draw the anger of the people of this City, if it would mean that they would leave my people in the woods alone. I miss my people. I miss my home. I would see my daughter again before she becomes one with the Crying Woods. But, you must understand that what I do here is important. If Lord Perimon has me, he may believe that he has a hold upon the Wood. I must stay to ensure that he continues to believe this."
Was the rescue attempt all for nothing? A mistaken adventure? The elf has his reasons for staying. Unless his reasons are themselves mistaken.

I'm ending Combat Rounds here. Even should you decide to pursue the fleeing guards, I think it can be handled in Free Time. Until you catch up with them.

Jaeden Ohm Thursday December 29th, 2005 10:16:51 PM
Seeing that the front is clear Jaeden imparts a quick mental call to Dalek. The horse trots to the man and stands still as the warrior stows his sword and mounts.
In his mind he begins to methodically count away the seconds. He doesn't know how much time they have but he knows it won't be long.
Savin Thursday December 29th, 2005 10:34:30 PM
Savin walks up to the druid and taps him on the shoulder. "Sir you are sadly mistaken if you wish to stay here. I understand your willingness to sacrifice yourself for those you love but your sacrifice would be in vain. If you must stay, you should at least go the noble houses where the nobles are noble and concerned with the welfare of the people. Staying here will only mean your death. This Lord Perimon could say you are a criminal who tried to escape, attacked his guards, and was cut down in your escape attempt. Then there would be no one to tell your story or be an advocate for your people. You already know he gave orders for your death. He doesn't care if you are alive. Your work here is done. We must go also, for freeing you has put us at risk. If you wish death, then we can't be responsible. May the Gods protect you.
Either come with us now, flee to your jungle in bird form, make your way to the nobles we talked about or stay and die. Those are your choices. What will it be?"
Sly d20=19 Friday December 30th, 2005 7:06:53 AM
Sly stands besides Savin, He listens to this wonderful Elder, then bows to the old Elf and answers him, "I should be speaking to in Elvish, but my friends would not understand our conversation. After all my friends did put their lives on the line just to talk to you. All we wanted was to know if you were a prisoner, and why??? Now we know, you were not a prisoner BUT a willing victiem. What you did not know is you were under a Death Warent. You, your daughter, Your people will all die if he cannot have his way. So you see (here Sly Bows his head once more) my Elder Prionell, Savin here is right you must go to a safe place. The other noble houses are already consern with your case and they will protect you, your daughter and your people. Now come with us, and my blade will be at your service to protect you and all your people. Now let's get your daughter. Now Come with the Children of Chaos."

Firn'gaer Friday December 30th, 2005 6:31:53 PM
Firn'gaer dismisses the polymorph spell and returns to the other now that the guard have withdrawn. He climbs to the second floor to hear the discussion of Prionel and his volunteer captivity.
"Rubbish, I say. Staying here does no one any good. Lord Malneth mentioned when we first arrived that your wife had been lost to a darkness building in the Crying Woods. How does staying here help her or your daughter should she also fall victim to this darkness." He stands arms crossed. "You knowledge could be valuable to ending the conflict as well as aiding us."
"There was a faint whisper in a dream..."
... vision ... find ... ... bane ... bind ... ... circle knows ... way ...
"It may be that you know information to help us. Besides we went through a lot of trouble getting you out. The least you could do is come to the docks and meet one of the houses that isn't going to chop you up at the first chance."
Peerimus Friday December 30th, 2005 10:13:30 PM
Peerimus dismisses the idea of pursuing the guards and returns through the house grabbing the elder elf along the way and moving him downstairs, "We are leaving, NOW. Youe are coming with us, I will freely compound any errors in this, but you are coming." Peerimus will move the elf out to the street. "Gold level will be responding soon, we are to the docks, there will be time enough to carry on further conversation, but for now we must move."
Jaeden (illegal second post) Saturday December 31st, 2005 2:08:08 AM
If Peerimus is successful in marshaling Prionel and the others out...
Sitting tall astride his Knot of Druis enchanted steed Jaeden eyes Peerimus as he ushers the Elven Elder out of the building. "Good! I was afraid whatever was to happen upstairs would take too long".
Dalek steps close and Jaeden extends his hand to the Elf. "We need to move fast, you're welcome to ride double with me to the docks."
Sly Saturday December 31st, 2005 7:05:41 AM
Sly knows that Peerimus is right, we should escourt the elf to safety. Sly follows the leaders in silence, but when they arrive where Jaeden and his horse are waiting, Sly steps forward an puts a hand on Peerimus arm, "Leader Peerimus! You said that I was responsible for this Elder Safty, is this not true?" Sly will turn to the Elder, "There's no time to wast!" Sly tell the Elder, as he gently helps the elf onto the horse, "Sir! You can trust this Paladin and his very fine horse. We'll meet you at the dock, and talk more there!" Sly look up at Jaeden, "Hurry! Take him to safty!" Sly gives a little pat on the horses romp.
OOC: This is Sly's last post for 2005. Happy New Year to all.
Turning To The Future (DM/Al) Saturday December 31st, 2005 9:09:02 PM
Prionel Treestalk meets the words of the Children of Chaos with silence.
"Yes. You are right. Even unbidden, you have risked your lives to come to me." These are the words that he speaks when finally he does. "The urgency in your voices, the sincerity as well, is plain to my ears. To accompany you to the docks is the least that I can do."
He makes his way down the stairs in the midst of the group. Outside, Jaeden awaits astride Dalek. The elf smiles, but shakes his head in polite refusal.
"I am elderly, that is true, Warrior. But my age has not slowed my step. I may not be able to match the speed of your fine mount. But, I would warrant that few others here would either. My feet would ride with Mother Wold. Thank you."
The trip back down the Central Pillar of Floating City is uneventful. More people move upon the streets, cleaning up after the devastation, rebuilding, hauling away the remnants of homes, some carrying the dead for burial.
Prionel is quiet as he takes in destruction around him. There is pain upon his face. "They kept me blind folded," he says quietly at one point.
At last, the group descends to Fence Level. And from there, it is a short walk to the Docks. The group exits through the large arching gateway in the city wall and into the true sunlight of late morning. The docks are largely empty. In the distance, some hour or so away, is an inbound ship. The docks would not be empty for long. At one end stands Lord Lorbius with Yorrick and Luke. Also, with them are three unknown men. Bearded and tanned, they carry boarding pikes. In the water, float the huge shells of three Turtle Ferries. Nearby there is also a small dinghy waiting to take Prionel to the shore.
Prionel turns his face to the sun, drinking it in like a morning glory.
"You are right," he says again to the Children of Chaos. "The city has suffered greatly. Much is here to be put right. There is nothing I can do in captivity. But there may be much I can do while free."
"Thank you," he turns to the group. "Thank you for coming for me." He places a hand upon Sly's shoulder. "But thank you even more for opening my eyes to my true responsibilities."

Sly and Luke Monday January 2nd, 2006 6:38:47 AM
Sly bows his head, then replies Elder Elf "Your daughter and your people needs you."
Sly turns to Lord Lorbius. "I don't know what kind of Blade Singer I am, because my blade has not sand, as of yet. But my duty to the Elves is over, you can distroy the letter but I would like the Holy Pin back, if it's not too much trouble?..."
At this point Luke come running and jumps on Sly's chest,'BAMG!' Licking Sly's face, "Where have you been? Yurrick and me was worried! You come now?" ask Luke.
"If you let me up, Luke! We'll go and ask Peerimus where we are to sit on thr Turtle Ferry" Sly tell the dog, But to the Lord and the Elder Elf, "My dog Luke here is a little happy to see us!" Sly grins at the two men.
Jaeden Ohm & Dalek Monday January 2nd, 2006 6:56:54 PM
Having reached the docks Jaeden begins the process of removing his armor. Each piece is placed into the waterproof sack supplied by Tarleth, which in turn is tied to the supplied tar sealed empty barrel by a 20' length of silk rope. Jaeden loads his equipment onto one of the turtles and leads Dalek aboard.
"We've got room for one more on this one."
notes *Jaeden no longer wearing his armor. Still wearing guantlets and sword still strapped to his back. *Sack with armor is tied to the floatation barrel.
Savin Monday January 2nd, 2006 8:26:32 PM
Savin walks up to Lorbius and indicates the elf. "We tried to keep the bloodshed down, don't think anyone died but this Perimon is a bad man. He gave orders to execute our elven friend. Thought their were laws against things like that. Can you look after him and help him get back to his people. Tough old goat, I saw him absorb 5 sword strikes and turn into a snake." Savin grins a boyish grin and claps his hand on the tall man's shoulder. "Keep an eye on that Lady of yours. She seems like a keeper."
Savin then heads over to the docks, pauses and pulls out a pearl. He activates it and then replaces it back in his haversack. He nimbly joins Jaeden on the turtle's back and smiles at him. "Hope you like a little flute playing?"
Peerimus d20+21=38 Monday January 2nd, 2006 8:36:35 PM
The druid is quite releived that the journey to the dock was uneventful, the destruction still wrought across the city definately must have helped. Small Blessings. Upon reaching Fence Level and the open air, the druid is also relieved at the change in heart to Prionel over the situation at large. "Nature must always adapt to survive." he says to no one in particular.
Looking over the Turtles, he looks to Jasper, "I think we should split up, as we are the only ones possessing curing magic. Why don't you go with Jaeden and you as well. I, Yorrick and Niobe will take another. With Luke, Sly and Firngaer on a third."
Peerimus gives his big freind a ruffling to his neck and leads the great bear onto a Turtle back. [handle animal 38]
Firn'gaer Monday January 2nd, 2006 9:38:11 PM
Glad to be out of the city, Firn'gaer gets on one of the turtles.
