DM Bob & Carla Wednesday December 21st, 2005 11:39:24 PM Flat-Top suggests to Brahmah that they might ply the satyrs with wine, but before they can advance their invitation the nimble creatures are away up the path and gone into the forest. It is hard to see far as night falls on the valley. Lazy snowflakes continue to drift downward from the dark sky overhead. Exhaled breath comes out as puffs of white against the midnight blue of the night.
Zeoll assures his friends that he is alright and recovered from his fall. A smile splits Gecktar's face as the cleric anticipates a hot meal. Ban Maeve worries about his role in the incident as he moves along the path towards the inn.
The narrow path opens onto a large flat landing. The sound of the Peaseblossom River can be heard coming from far across the landing. Pressed against the hillside, its front facing the river is the building seen previously from the path above. From the front the structure appears to be nothing more than a large one story stone cottage, whereas the back part is a compact two stories and made of wood. A sign above the door identifies the place as Pullman's Crossing and Roadhouse. Light spills out from two grimy windows, one on either side of a large green wooden door. The sound of singing and laughter can be heard coming from inside the building.
When harpers once in wooden hall, A shining chord would strike, Their songs like arrows pierced the soul, Of great and low alike.
Aglow by hearth and candleflame, From burning branch or ember, The mist of all their music sang, As if to ask in wonder.
Is there a moment quite as keen, Or memory as bright, As light and fire and music (sweet), To warm the winter's night?
Before any of the party can knock, the door is abruptly pulled open. A tall, lean man stands in the doorway, rolling up his sleeves to expose sinewy forearms. The bony individual, whose wispy hair is a thin disguise for the slightly pointed ears ducks his head and squints at the party standing just beyond the circle of light from the doorway. "Luther Armson, ferryman and proprietor of this 'ere fine roadhouse, at yer service!"
Gecktar Thursday December 22nd, 2005 3:57:57 AM
Gecktar slightly bows before the man that introduced himself. "Gecktar taur and servant of Domi, tired and hungry traveller. Have you a little place for me and my comrades here ?"
Then turning to the Chosen, "Remember it's my turn as I own you some money."
Flat-top Thursday December 22nd, 2005 7:57:35 AM
As Flat-top brushes snow off his back and rump, He look at the others, smiles, then answers the Captain "That's alright with me, Captain!". To the InnKeeper, "Make Mine a nice, hot hardie Soup, dark bread and a large tankard of Ale. Brrrr!" Smiling at the tall Elf, waiting to enter.
OOC: Flat-top will wait to enter last, to make sure that everybody is not frostbitten.

Toros tries to stay out of the light, concerned that his lion-like appearance might frighten the innkeeper. Ban Maeve Thursday December 22nd, 2005 2:09:15 PM
Ban steps into the warmth and is overjoyed at all the good smells. "I think that it is time i hat a trink. Perhaps some ale woult be goot."
Brahmah Thursday December 22nd, 2005 4:34:28 PM
"Hello." Says Brahmah as he pushes into the inn and moves infront of the fire.
DM Bob & Carla Thursday December 22nd, 2005 10:10:08 PM Gecktar, and Toros wait tactfully for the innkeeper to invite them inside, while Flat-Top puts in his order and Brahmah and Ban Maeve push their way inside.
The innkeeper steps back startled and the door slams open. There is a collective intake of breath as the large minotaur pushes towards the hearth and the rest of the party enter swept forward on a sudden gust of cold night air. A skinny elf in a worn cloak with multicolored patches sidles away from his place by the hearth. "Domi's knees! Close that door, will ya!" comes a shout from a table in the corner where a party of stout dwarves sits. Their armor, weapons and packs are piled neatly against one wall and there are several empty mugs and a few full ones on the table in front of them.
A glance around the room shows a full house. Four round and two long rectangular tables are fully occupied. "Boys," calls a man of medium height and thick build, as he pushes himself up from his seat at one of the round tables . "Boys!" he calls more loudly, "move yer butts and make room for these...strangers." Two young men with a family resemblance to the speaker jump to their feet, their eyes on the taurs, and follow their father to lean against one wall. "We're done our meal. Please have our table," the father nods to Brahmah.
The innkeeper wrestles the door closed, and yells, "Lucy! Guests!" as he makes his way to the party. The murmur of conversations resumes, and the innkeeper stops in front of the Chosen of Domi. "5 silver apiece and you can have a bite to eat and warm yerselves by the fire, but there's no room at this 'ere inn tonight!"
Zeoll Thursday December 22nd, 2005 11:46:20 PM
The liontaur enters the establishment, ducking his head. He enjoys the smells from the kitchen, and looks for the singer he heard from outside.
He reassures the innkeeper that he actually sleeps more soundly with only the sky over his head, thanks -- and his magic should keep him warm, right? But can't his friends just sleep here in the common room?
Flat-top Friday December 23rd, 2005 7:37:11 AM

I'll be right back." Flat-top walks to ether the kitchen or the bar asking for Spicy Hot Apple Cider, "It's for A very cold Friend, Please!" Flat-top will take the Hot Cider to Gectar, "Here drink this!" He orders his friend to drink.
Gecktar Friday December 23rd, 2005 7:40:11 AM "Here you are" says Gecktar handing the innkeeper five gold pieces. "This is more than you need, so give us your best vine and finest meal"

DM Bob and Carla Sunday December 25th, 2005 11:12:48 AM
A young woman exits from a door that leads to the kitchen. She is tall, and lean, with her father's green eyes, pale skin, and slightly pointed ears. A brief curtsy is accompanied by, "Lucy Armson at 'yer service!" Lucy listens to the various requests with a look of dismay on her face. "Kitchen's closed, but I'll see what I can cobble up," she responds.
The room is overflowing with guests whose large numbers and considerable appetites appear to be overwhelming Luther and his daughter. The raggedy fellow in the patched cloak inches back to his spot by the hearth, clearing his throat.
Our little brother, kind and good Was humbly born in a stable rude And the friendly beasts around Him stood our little brother, kind and good.
"I," said the cow, all white and red "I gave Him my manger for a bed; I gave Him my hay to pillow His head." "I," said the cow, all white and red.
"I," said the sheep with curly horn, "I gave Him my wool for His blanket warm; He wore my coat on Solstice morn." "I," said the sheep with curly horn.
"I," said the dove from the rafters high, "Cooed Him to sleep that He should not cry; We cooed Him to sleep, my mate and I." "I," said the dove from the rafters high.
Thus every beast by some good spell In the stable dark was glad to tell Of the gift he gave Emmanuel, The gift he gave Emmanuel.
A short while later Lucy returns carrying a large tray filled with assorted breads, cheeses, pickled vegetables, and hot sausages wrapped in pastry. She places it down in front of the taurs "This'll get you started" she says. She returns a little later with another tray. This one is heaped with nutmeats, dried and candied fruits, and triangular shaped scones studded with raisins.
Luther collects his coin and heads to the bar to get drinks. "Look 'ere" he protests, "does this look like some fancy big city hotel? It's beer or mulled wine and if that's not good enough, there's the water from the Peaseblossum."
Lucy replies to Zeoll's question directly. "There are already some folks bedding down in the common room tonight." She points out the bard, and nods in the direction of the party of dwarves. "I'm afraid all that is left is the barn...I didn't really want to suggest it in case you might think me rude."
Ban Maeve Sunday December 25th, 2005 4:24:00 PM
Ban eats all that is set before him and drinks a hearty amount of mead. After eating, he gets out his drum and starts to lay down a basic beat, seeing if he can tempt Zeoll into a song.
Flat-top Monday December 26th, 2005 10:53:25 AM
Flat-top was almost the first one at the table when the food arives, "Hey! Gectar! You old Minotaur, if you don't get here soon , They'll be nothing Left for you, Hmmm! this mead is good!"
Flat-top is so hungry that he eats like a horse.
Toros (sub Ceil) Monday December 26th, 2005 11:06:47 AM
Toros (who was sitting by the fireplace) Got up on his paws and caters over to the table, "HOLD ON THERE! You Barbarian! Let us cleric say a preayer to Tomi First. Now let's bow our headsand pray.
As every body is praying over the food, Toros is having the pick of the food, then give the party a big smile and a big "AMEM!" then goes back to the fire place.
Zeoll d20+13=16 Monday December 26th, 2005 4:28:46 PM
Zeoll can't help smiling. "Mmm ... that sounds good! I'll have some of that mead Ban and Flat-top arre drrinking!"
Zeoll also says to Lucy, "What, why would we be offended at the offerr of a barrn? That sounds just fine. And if Flat-top gets hungrry in the night, therre will be lots of hay arround forr him to nosh on. That rreminds me, you got lots of mice in that barrn of yourrs?"
Those who know Zeoll will recognize his gentle teasing by the way his tail twitches.
Zeoll joins in saying grace, and then especially enjoys the sausages -- he eats two dozen.
After the meal, Zeoll is pleased to accompany Ban, and hopefully Toros as well. But he asks his friends to complement the House Musician, whose melodies have a festive feel. [Aid another check 13 to boost the singer's Perform.]
Brahmah Monday December 26th, 2005 11:09:00 PM
Brahmah clops Toros on the back of the head. "Hold your tongue! Let the clerics decide what they want to do."
"Beer and wine are fine."
The captain of the Chosen just sits by the fire and sips a beer.
Gecktar Tuesday December 27th, 2005 3:33:03 AM "Thanks Toros, but I don't think Domi requires a prayer before eating. HE for sure will prefer a prayer before leaving to work or before a competition. HE is not so concerned by the food except for the divine wine, we taurs, are able to brew."
Gecktar eat as much as he can and drink moderately.
Flat-top Tuesday December 27th, 2005 7:41:50 AM
Flat-top tell Brahmah as he goes by and head for the fire place, "Don't Hit Toros, He is a cleric, not only a cleric but a druid like Zeoll!" Flat-top knew that if Toros was insulted, toros would have batted the Bull Headed Captain with his masive paw of his.
Toros (sub Ceil) Tuesday December 27th, 2005 7:47:39 AM
Toros has this cattish smile on his face, "That'ss alrright, Flat-top. I got to the food firrsst! Perrrfect." and keep on eating.
DM Bob and Carla Tuesday December 27th, 2005 9:40:40 AM
Places are taken at the round table near the fire. A debate ensues over the necessity of asking Domi's blessing before eating, which leads to some good natured teasing between Flat-Top, Toros, and Brahmah. A small feast is cobbled together by Lucy who watches in amazement as the party makes astonishing progress through the food. Beer is served and Luther watches in wry amusement as the watered down beverage is referred to as "mead". Foreigners, he thinks to himself wondering what profits could be had at their expense. Ban Maeve and Zeoll encourage the bard who bows in acknowledgement and continues his entertainment.
The room gradually empties over the course of the night, until only the party of dwarves, the man with his two sons, and the bard are left. Lucy appears wrapped in a long cloak, a lantern in one hand. Stifling a yawn she beckons the party to follow her.
The sound of the Peaseblosson river, is the only noise in the otherwise quiet night. A white dusting of snow on the ground silences the noise of hooves and treads of feet as Lucy escorts the party to the barn. It is large enough, with several stalls to accommodate the animals of the guests as well as a cow and a goat belonging to the proprietor. Lucy lights a closed lantern and hangs it from a heavy beam that supports a great loft above. "Never been so busy, 'afore," Lucy repeats, apologizing once again, "so many foreign folks coming through on their way to the auction and sale. That where you be heading?"
Zeoll Tuesday December 27th, 2005 11:24:43 AM
Zeoll asks the woman what she means. "Who is selling what? And wherre? No, we arre simply trravellerrs passing thrrough on ourr own business."
He thanks her for her hospitality.
During the night, Zeoll takes first watch. In the morning, he prepares his spells and finds a comfy corner of the barn in which to do some work on his cloak. He asks Gecktar if he would be so kind as to cast an Eagle's Splendor for him today.

"Snow."
He moves along with the group in silence.
Flat-top Wednesday December 28th, 2005 8:54:31 AM
Flat-top moves along still eating nuts and apples, "Yep! Snow! Fells like frozen water." Hes glad to have a nice warm barn and a soft stall with nice clean hay. Flat-top starts dancing along and sings a little tune, " Ahhh! What a night! it is snowing, it is quit a sight. OOOoooOOO! Night De. . ." *~~~ SPLAT! At this point everybody Throws snowball at Flat-top, to make him stop singing.
Toros (sub Ceil) Wednesday December 28th, 2005 9:00:32 AM
Toros follows the others, thinking of a nice warm pile of hay in the loft. Ahhh! sweet dreans, Untill Flat-top starts singing!!! " shut up! you cannot hold a tune!" yells Toros as he is making a few snow balls, "Your tone deaft!." then throws another of the snowball.
Zeoll d20+3=12 Wednesday December 28th, 2005 9:36:49 AM
"I had wonderred," Zeoll says musingly, "why I had secrretly made this snowball outside without mentioning it to anyone -- not even to myself! But now it all becomes clearr!"
Zeoll throws his snowball at Flat-top -- hitting AC12!
LOL!
DM Bob & Carla Wednesday December 28th, 2005 10:07:20 AM Zeoll is the only one interested in Lucy's information. Everyone else seems more interested in the snow that continues to fall gently from the night sky.
"Well, the dwarves from the Red Hills and the ladies from Witchspawn have mentioned their purpose for travel is to attend an auction and sale of artifacts somewhere in the forest. Simon, the bard, may know more. He has been traveling in the Culverwood a fortnight on his way to Cinnamon Valley." Lucy stifles another yawn and wishes the party goodnight before exiting the barn.
The bodies of the animals in the barn generate sufficient heat to make the place comfortable. Toros nimbly climbs into the loft and curls up in the sweet smelling hay, while Flat-Top finds an empty stall. Watches are kept, but nothing is stirring, not even a mouse. The lantern burns itself out in the course of the night.
Zeoll's early morning endeavors are interrupted when the man and his two sons enter the barn and proceed to collect a pair of oxen.
Brahmah Wednesday December 28th, 2005 11:40:00 AM
Brahmah makes sure Flat-top is cover in snow.
The ranger, not too fond of snow, is happy to be in cover.
Brahmah Thursday December 29th, 2005 5:22:25 AM
The ranger leans against the barn wall, sits down and begins watching the people around him. Brahmah falls almost immediately asleep, unaware he was so tired.
Flat-top d20+7=27 Thursday December 29th, 2005 8:49:54 AM
Flat-top brushes the snow of of himself, trots around and picks a nice stall. He is still eating an apple as he leans against the wall, he drops the apple and he goes to sleep. The only thing that bothers him and makes him open one eye, is the soft noise of the man with the two sons enter to gather their Oxens.
Toros (sub Ceil) d20+4=11 d20+5=21 Thursday December 29th, 2005 9:02:58 AM

Despite the fact that it is morning, and the patrons of the inn are up and about preparing for the new day, the Chosen of Domi sleep in. All except Zeoll, who continues to work quietly on his cloak.
The man and his sons lead the oxen out of the barn, and hitch them to a wagon. Some further preparations, and they are gone. Soon afterwards, the barn becomes quite busy as animals are fetched and preparations for travel ensue.
Zeoll d20+11=21 Thursday December 29th, 2005 12:15:54 PM
Zeoll chuckles, seeing his friends catch up on their sleep. Walking in the cold really wore them down. Zeoll says a quick prayer of thanks to Domi and Mother Wold for the magic that has kept him cozy, even in this barn.
Busy with his magical crafting, Zeoll does not much notice the comings and going in the barn. But on his lunch break he stops by the inn for some food and info gathering. If he sees the bard, Simon, he will ask him about the goings-on in the woods. Zeoll is surprised to hear about an "auction" -- such a civilized activity to be taking place in such a wild wood. Are the potential bidders not afraid of losing their way in the forest? And who could possibly be organizing the sale? Is there even an outside chance that the map fragment the party seeks is among the items to be auctioned?
If Simon is not free, Zeoll will chat with anybody. Maybe the dwarves who are going there?
Zeoll is especially keen to hear if it is this greenmage fellow, Grim Tooth, or whatever was his name, is behind it.
And of course, he is most of all eager to hear any tale of underground monsters with many eyes, or of mirrors, or of other such rumors relating to their quest.
[Gather Info check 21. Note that per the SRD, "A typical Gather Information check takes 1d4+1 hours." Zeoll can only spare an hour from his crafting, and that with his mouth full. So I'd expect some decent penalties on his hurried Gather Info check]
DM Bob & Carla Friday December 30th, 2005 10:44:00 AM
The dwarves with their dog cart and the witches on horseback make their departures followed by other guests who have spent the night at Pullman's Crossing. Some, like the man with the oxen took the route north marked with a sign indicating Merrydale yet others, like the dwarves and the witches crossed the Peaseblossum with the help of Luther and his mule powered ferry.
Zeoll enters the common room of the inn and spots the bard, Simon, seated at the end of one of the long tables opposite Lucy. Two mugs sit in front of the couple as they enjoy a little tête-à-tête. Lucy notices the wemic and rises to fetch something from the kitchen. Placing a basket lined with a checked cloth on the table, she volunteers, "breakfast is finished, but there were a few biscuits left over. Cup of joe?" She fetches a tankard used for ale, and pours a cup of something steaming and black, the 'joe', into the taur sized mug.
Simon seems happy to chat with the liontaur. When Zeoll enquires about an "auction" he points to a piece of parchment pinned to a notice board on the wall next to the door exiting the inn.
Sale of Surplus Personal Property to the General Public
Arms and Armor Magic Items too numerous to mention Artefacts and Curiosities acquired during a lifetime of collecting the 3rd day after the winter solstice
Flyth's Cave
Follow the markers from Pullman's Crossing
Simon looks puzzled when Zeoll asks about "Grim Tooth", but then he smiles and with a laugh adds, "I doubt the Greenmage has anything to do with the auction, though he likely knows about it. He seems to know everything that happens in the Culverwood."
Brahmah Friday December 30th, 2005 12:04:56 PM
"ZZzzz..."
Ban Maeve d20+10=23 Friday December 30th, 2005 4:17:48 PM
Ban Maeve arches his back to get the kinks out. His golden eyes stare into the dim light of the barn as he tries to discern if his group are still there. Bright light through a crack between barn boards tell him he has slept in too late.
With a jingle of clashing beads the wemic jumps down from the loft landing lightly on all fours (Jump=23). Nudging the door of the barn open he takes the path to the inn. Ban Maeve passes through the door just as those at the table turn and look at the paper pinned on the wall. He turns too, but the marks on the parchment mean nothing to him.
"Is it important? Can someone reatt it to me?" Then, showing a sharp toothed grin he adds, "anything to eat for a lazy lie-abett?"
Flat-top Saturday December 31st, 2005 7:18:43 AM
The coming and going of the patrions to gather the animals, are seeping into his mind. The Center cannot sleep any more, so he streches and head out the barn door.
He takes hands full of snow, witch he will use not only to wake himself fully, but to also clean himself. Now he feels empty, he wants something to eat. He heads towards the Tavern.
He enters the main room just as the pretty little filly Lucy is bringing a big basket to to a table, "Morning to all! Can I have a mug of 'Joe' too please?"
Toros (sub Ceil) Saturday December 31st, 2005 7:24:09 AM
Who is behind Flat-top entering the tavern? It's Toros humming one of the tunes that was played last night. "OH! What thisss "Joe' ssstuff? Can I have a bowl full of that?" Toro ask with a grin.
Zeoll Saturday December 31st, 2005 8:42:52 AM
As Zeoll is finishing his lunch and his conversation with Simon, Ban, Flat-top, and Toros enter. Ban asks if the sign is important. Zeoll casts a comprehend languages spell and gives the flier a look over. He reads it to his friends.
"Sounds interesting, but we can't leave here until the fauns get back."
When Flat-top asks about the "Joe," Zeoll smiles. "I think it is a kind of 'mead,' " the liontaur says mischieviously.
Worried that his friends might get in trouble, Zeoll casts an extended message cantrip on all three of them. If they get into trouble in the next hour, they'll be able to whisper to him, if he is in range.
Then he tells his friends what he has learned at lunch and finally returns to his crafting in the barn.
Ban Maeve Sunday January 1st, 2006 11:42:21 AM
"Well, if we can't leave than we might as well spent the tay lounging arount and taking cat naps. That fire sure feels nice," he says as he tears into his breakfast.
Gecktar Sunday January 1st, 2006 2:12:19 PM
Gecktar slept well in the barn. When he wakes up it is to see Zeoll coming in to work on his cloth.
"Do you still need the spell friend ? I've got one for you if you want. Just let me take my breakfast and come back to help you"
DM Bob & Carla Sunday January 1st, 2006 8:15:17 PM
The combined stressors of being out of their natural environment, constantly on the run, and bearing the weight of Domi's charge to unite the taur races, takes it's toll on the Chosen. For once the party feels sufficiently secure to catch up on some much needed rest, take inventory of supplies, repair and recondition weapons, and attend to other mundane affairs that have been much neglected.
Lucy makes up for the meager breakfast by serving a nice assortment of cheeses and cold meats along with many fresh baked loaves of crusty bread. "Don't say anything to Pa," she implores the wemics as she takes a plate from under her apron and places a serving of smoked trout in front of Zeoll and Ban Maeve. When the taurs return for dinner, a thick lentil stew with carrots and onions is served up, a link of spicy sausage on top of each serving for those who eat meat, and more baskets of crusty dark bread. Plates are cleared, and a platter of cheeses, fruits, and nuts is placed on each table. Simon, the bard entertains, inviting any who wish to sing along with the traditional country songs to join in. The merry tunes are punctuated by the occasional ballad or story of some noble so-and-so and how he rescued his fair lady.
The snow that started falling the night before continues lightly through the day and into the night and the inn once again fills with folks seeking a night's respite under a roof; an imposing wizard with a young apprentice, four gnomes who seem intent to quarrel amongst themselves, a couple mixed parties...adventurers by the looks of them.
+++++++
The party spend their second night, much as they did the first...enjoying the companionship and general merriment inside the common room of the inn until it is time to retire. The barn is once again home to the Chosen of Domi and once again they witness the departure of those who arrived the night before as they choose their respective paths through the Culverwood the next morning. Zeoll works a second day on his cloak with Gecktar's assistance. As the party enjoy a quiet lunch in the common room, there is a rapid knocking on the door. Before Lucy can respond, it flys open and two shivering satyrs burst onto the threshold with much stamping of hooves and flapping of cloaks, sending snow all about.
Flat-top Monday January 2nd, 2006 6:58:44 AM
Tells Lucy that the food is just too good to be true. "Our cooks are very goo with trail food, but there nothing like Home Cooking!"
At this point there's a knock at the door , then the self opening of the Door. Flat-top reconises the two Satyrs, "Captain! Here are our Guides!" Flat-top continues to finish his breackfast. "Please! Shut the Door behind you, Boys"
Toros (sub Ceil) Monday January 2nd, 2006 7:07:58 AM
Toros look up to see the two Satyrs shedding wet snow all over the place, "HEY! HORN HEADSSS! Keep dhe wet sssnow outside! Look what you did do my beaitiful coat? Now I'll have do preem it dry next do the fire place!"He tell them with a smerk.
Ban Maeve d20=19 Monday January 2nd, 2006 10:37:38 AM
The food is good and the rest restorative, but after a while Ban Maeve becomes restless. During lunch he broaches the subject of heading off to continue their quest. "To you think we shoult go see what this Flyth has to offer? To you think he might have that which we seek?"
When the doors burst open, he blinks his large golden eyes, "our guites have arrived!" Ceding his place by the fire, Ban Maeve continues, "come in and stant by the fire to get warm!" He looks to see if there is anyone else with the satyrs. (Spot=19)
Gecktar Monday January 2nd, 2006 1:18:22 PM
After many prayers to Domi during the day, Gecktar is happy to meet the Chosen around the diner's table near the warming fire....
As the two Satyrs come into the inn he push himself letting some place for them near the fire as Ban has just done.
Welcome friends, did you find what we seek ?
Zeoll d20+20=34 d20+9=11 Monday January 2nd, 2006 4:35:26 PM
Zeoll is very glad to have Gecktar's help. "Thank you, my frriend! I am deep in yourr debt. Without you I could not have fashioned my cloak!"
Lucy's kindness to the liontaurs does not pass unnoticed. Zeoll attempts to draw out the young woman, learning about her, offering some of the lighter stories of the adventures of the Chosen -- such as the unitaur children. He especially tells her of the group's quest to unite the warring Tauir races and bring peace to his home isles.
If he judges that she is a listener, he talks more. If he senses that she enjoys talking, he listens.
[Diplomacy check 34 to influence her attitude; Sense motive 11 fails to reveal much about her!]
When he sees other adventurers, Zeoll covertly studies them, looking for a familiar face. He has met many of the Wold's heroes in his dreams, in a strange ghostly tavern, and in quests woven into epic tapestries of adventure. How wonderful it would be to stumble into his good friend Ashira, or the famous Bill Troublefinder, or even the Wold's champion, Valdor Dragonstone, of whom they sing even in the insular Taur Isles.
When the fauns don't show up, Zeoll gets nervous. So it is with great relief that he sees the two fey enter at last. He too feels some of the annoyance that is clear in Toros's voice, but Zeoll does not let it get the better of him. His voice is friendly and welcoming.
"Thadius! Thalpius! You two arre welcome sights indeed! Come in! Come in! Let us buy you drrinks to warrm your coldnesses! Come in, and sharre yourr news!"
DM Bob & Carla Monday January 2nd, 2006 11:54:44 PM
Lucy is flattered by Flat-Top's compliments on her cooking and enthralled by Zeoll's exotic tales. She stands in the doorway of the kitchen her eyes moving from the two fey to the party or taurs. Thadius and Thalpius gratefully take the places vacated by Ban Maeve and Gecktar.
Thadius doesn't waste any time as he slaps a piece of rolled parchment down on the table. "Grynntym is occupied and unable to come to you. He has drawn a map to this place you seek." Spreading out the parchment, the satyr continues, "the paths of the Culverwood are ever changing, but the Greenmage is certain there are two routes that could still be passable." Pointing to one trail he says, "this one is shorter, but it passes through the Wyrmsfut, a marshy area." Stabbing his finger at a slightly longer path he adds, "this one is through hillier terrain."
Thalpius relieves his brother, "this cave you seek is the home of one called Flyth. The Greenmage knows of him, but does not count him a friend. This Flyth has decided to quit the Culverwood and is trying to raise funds for his next venture. The Greenmage says it is reported he is selling off everything he owns!"
Thadius lifts his cloak in order to better warm what is underneath. With a sorry look at Lucy, he reports, "we must make haste or we will never make it in time. Tomorrow is the 3rd day after the winter solstice!"

Brahmah Tuesday January 3rd, 2006 12:14:58 AM
Brahmah is very quiet for the past two nights, simply practicing his sword skills.
Brahmah Tuesday January 3rd, 2006 6:19:33 AM
"I say we take the Eastern route and take our chances. It is the most direct route... it seems. Right to Flyth's front door."
Flat-top Tuesday January 3rd, 2006 6:46:43 AM
Flat-top looks at the map, "Going through the swamp in this weather is better than going climbing around rocks? I agree with Captain! Lucy can I have another helping of Bake applt in the crust" Ask the centaur with the boyish grin!
Gecktar Tuesday January 3rd, 2006 2:41:16 PM "Right Captain, the most direct way is the best as we should go quickly to this market. If he is selling everything we should hurry because many of the passengers, here in the inn, seem to go to this market."
"Let's get a quick sleep and depart as soon as we can."
Zeoll Tuesday January 3rd, 2006 3:15:21 PM
"A quick sleep!" Zeoll exclaims. "It is only noon! Let's leave Right now, immediately, and trravel into the night. We arre at ourr best in naturre, so let us be off rright away!"
The liontaur gets his gear quick and is ready to go in minutes.
"Come on! And by all means let's take the shorrt rroute, thrrough the swamp!"
Ban Maeve d20+7=18 d20+6=8 Tuesday January 3rd, 2006 11:25:18 PM
"I wonter which path the others took? Which one is the safest?" ponders Ban Maeve aloud. "Let me get my pack and we shall be off!"
The ranger collects his gear from the barn and returns to wait outside the door of the inn for his party. He tries to get a fix on the weather and tells the party what he knows.

DM Bob and Carla Wednesday January 4th, 2006 12:07:05 AM
On learning what the satyrs have to say the party decides to strike out for Flyth's cave opting for the shortest route marked on Grynntym's map. Ban Maeve studies the lightly falling snow. He does not think the accumulation on the ground will slow the party down, but he is concerned that the dryness of the flakes and the chill in the air means a cold day and a colder night should the party decide to press on without making camp.
The satyrs join the party, pulling their cloaks close about their bodies, but before heading to the ferry crossing, Thalpius stops with a cry. "Oh! I almost forgot! The Greenmage wants you to have this." The satyr holds out a pin made of a green living leaf. "Who leads this party?" Thalpius will pin the leaf to whoever steps forward. "Wear this leaf at all times, and stay together. The Culverwood is no ordinary forest. It has a mind of its own. This leaf will provide you with safe passage as long as you stay together. As long as this leaf is green you will be under the protection of the Greenmage. The Wyrmsfut is a different matter, and the Greenmage has no sway in that strange place."
The party make to go, but their progress in once again halted. This time it is Luther Armson. "Makin' off without payin' yer tab?" he asks, squinting with pale eyes at the large party in front of him. "5 silver for board and bed per day, two days that's 10 silver each, 'nother 5 silver for all the extra food ye be eattin'." Luther eyes the party, then adds, "make it an even 15 gold and I'll take the lot of ye across the Peaseblossum on me ferry."
(OOC: Please describe any precautions your character takes to ensure he is protected against the cold.)
Gecktar Wednesday January 4th, 2006 4:24:19 AM
As the minotaur prepares to leave and Luther rushes calling for the toll, he says "Oh sorry master Armson, here are the 15 gold pieces plus 3 more pieces for giving us more food for our trip. Maybe some bread and cheese with bacon. If you have dried fruits it will be fine."
Gecktar collect some food for the trip and prepares his pack, ready to start. When the cold begins to bite him he will cast 'Endure elements' spell to protect himself.
"I didn't memorize other protections from the cold. Maybe some of you also need it. Well, just tell me and I will do my best tomorrow"
(OOC : buy 5 ration trail for 3 gp)
Flat-top Wednesday January 4th, 2006 8:28:13 AM
Flat-top runs back to the barn, after all his back pack and his assorted weapons. He makes sure that the Cloak of Comfort is in the best of condition. With saddle bags, Cross Bow, Bolts, his Bastard Sword(taur size ofcorse) and his favorite weapon his Morning Star wrapt aroung his neck. He now check his Food for traveling, a little low but it will do for a short trip.
"Now I'm ready" he tells himself and runs back to the tavern. Gates slowly to Miss Lucy asking her if she has any more of those bake apples of hers, "I'll give you a silver for each one you bring me?"
Toros (sub Ceil) Wednesday January 4th, 2006 8:38:20 AM
Toros sees that Flat-top is bribing Lucy for trail food, "Hey! Flat-top! See if she has any dried meat that I can have? or I'll chew on your rump if I get hungry!"
Toros smiles as he hears Flat-top tell Lucy "He meam it! I'll give you a gold coin if you can give him a Ham to please him!"
Toros gather his things and is ready to go.
OOC: I have his stats but not his Thingsor armor. Sorry.(Ceil)
Zeoll Wednesday January 4th, 2006 10:12:43 AM
The liontaur already has his Endure Elements cast for the day. He walks on happy in the cold.
Brahmah d20+11=20 d20+11=23 Wednesday January 4th, 2006 2:10:59 PM
Brahmah step forward quietly and accepts the pin.
The ranger retrieves a scroll and casts Endure Elements. "I'll remember tomorrow to prepare more."
The minotaur then takes a long gaze at the sky, the the dry flakes and sighs (Survival to predict the weather for more than a day, DC 20). "The greyness is going to be long and cold. A deep cold I fear."
(Survival to prepare the others for the cold, DC 23, giving up to 8 PCs or NPCs +2 vs extreme cold while moving and +4 when stationary)
Prepared Spells: 1) Pass without Trace, Speak with Animals 2) Speak with Plants
Tattoo: Unused today
Ban Maeve Wednesday January 4th, 2006 7:23:44 PM
"Thank you my frient," says Ban Maeve to Gecktar when the minotaur offers to pick up the tab.
The wemic will ask Flat-Top if he can borrow the blanket the centaur loaned Gecktar earlier in their trip into the woods. "I have no cloak or other thing to keep me warm."
Ban Maeve isn't so sure about crossing the river in the ferry, but he will follow the rest of the group.
DM Bob & Carla d6=5 Wednesday January 4th, 2006 10:03:45 PM
Gecktar pays the bill and enquires about the purchase of extra food. For his gold pieces he is provided with a half dozen oval loaves of bread, a small wheel of cheese, a hunk of meat, and a bottle of plonk. It is enough to keep the party for one day. Lucy provides a cheeky Flat-Top with a battered old iron pot containing a dozen apples. "You'll have to do your own cooking from now on, sweetheart," she says.
Brahmah claims Grynntym's token of safe passage. He, Gecktar, and Zeoll employ magic to keep from feeling the cold. Flat-Top's grey Cloak of Comfort takes on a darker hue from the cold, but the centaur is warm as toast. Ban Maeve enquires if Flat-Top's blanket is still available, and Toros wonders if he should get his out as well. (Ban Maeve and Toros, Fort Save vs DC 15 or take 5 pts. subdual dmg.)
The party follows Luther and boards the ferry. Thadius and Thalpius are the last to get on. The half-elf uses his long pole to tap and poke at the ice along the shore and around the barge-like boat. Once he has freed the ferry, and the members of the party have taken their places, he calls to his daughter on shore. Raising his hand in the air, he draws a circle over his head. Lucy gets the mule moving, and with a small jerk the ferry starts to move.
The passage across the Peaseblossom is uneventful. Luther uses his long pole to push at a chunk of ice or a partially submerged log in order that the ferry doesn't become stuck in transit. The current in the middle of the river is strong, and the water dark, but the ferry makes good time.
Brahmah studies the sky and figures the snow will soon stop. The wind might pick up a little, and the temperature drop further when night comes on. As best he can tell, the next day will be grey and cold.
The ferry pulls in to the small dock on the eastern side of the river. The half-elf jumps on to the dock and lowers a ramp, allowing the party to disembark. Luther takes up a position on the dock, leaning against his long pole, and watches, wondering as the foreign looking Chosen of Domi make their way ashore.
Gecktar Thursday January 5th, 2006 3:34:57 AM "Thank you master Armson, I'm sure we will meet you again." Gecktar says.
Then to the two Satyrs, "Well Thald and Thalp, show us the way to get to this starnge creature that intend to leave the woods."
Gecktar make sure his backpack is firmly attached and follows the two satyrs when they depart.
Zeoll Thursday January 5th, 2006 4:24:53 AM
On the boat, Zeoll sees that two of his friends are suffering from the cold. (Can this nonlethal cold damage be healed with magic? If so, Zeoll will use charges from his wand of CLW on any who take damage.)
Zeoll thanks Luther for his help.
Then he says to the fauns, "Lead on!"
Toros d20+12=27 Thursday January 5th, 2006 6:46:22 AM
Toros is not so well-prepared for the cold, but still manages to resist to the damaging affects of the bittering cold and follow others without slowing them down. (27>15, DC)
OOC:
Happy new year to all!!
Thank you for bearing with me when I was sick and away. Ceil, I owe you this!!
Flat-top Thursday January 5th, 2006 8:18:53 AM
Flat-top tell Ban, "Ofcourse you can borrow the blanket, But I wish you had told me before we left! I would have bribe Lucy for a Downe Comferter! Well it's too late now. But to night, when we rest, Come to me and I'll share my cape of Comfort with you."
Flat-top kisses Lucy on the cheek (When her farther is not looking) "Thank you, My Beauty." Flat-top boards the ferry and now on their way. Oh! yes, Flat-top is eating an apple while they ride"
Brahmah d20+13=28 d20+8=27 d20+7=8 Thursday January 5th, 2006 3:02:35 PM
Brahmah looks about, trying to get his barings and continue to watch the others for signs of cold or frostbite.
(Remember friends Ban Maeve and Toros, Brahmah has given you the opportunity to add a +2 to your saving throw vs cold.)
The ranger watches the skies and terrain, in order to recognize things later. (Survival vs hazard 28, Knowledge Geography 27, Knowledge Nature 8) The flora and fauna are strange to Brahmah, though, some he recognizes. He remains quiet, hating the snow with a passion.
(Dear DMs, did Brahmah's weather prediction resolve?)
(OOC: See DM post, near the end. "Brahmah studies the sky and figures the snow will soon stop. The wind might pick up a little, and the temperature drop further when night comes on. As best he can tell, the next day will be grey and cold."-DM Carla)
Ban Maeve d20+8=15 d20+8=28 Thursday January 5th, 2006 7:57:58 PM
When the party settles on the ferry Ban Maeve sinks down so that his body covers his extremities, and wraps his tail close about himself. In this way he conserves his body heat. (Fort Save=15, thanks Brahmah! I needed those 2 points.)
When it is time to go ashore, he accepts the blanket from Flat-Top and drapes it over his shoulders. Using his falchion he cuts a length off his rope (Hit AC 28 vs Rope HP 2) and uses it to tie the blanket securely about his body. Showing his sharp yellow teeth in his trademark grin, he purrs, "woultn't want to be holting this blanket if I neetet my hants free for a fight!"
DM Bob & Carla Thursday January 5th, 2006 10:23:44 PM Gecktar thanks the half-elf on the party's behalf while Zeoll worries about the effects of cold on his friends. His worries are for naught, however as Toros sturdy constitution and Ban Maeve's ability to adapt keep the cold at bay. Flat-Top is a friend in deed to his friend in need, and the centaur's heavy blanket is quickly turned into a makeshift coat by the wemic.
Bramah notices a very narrow trail leading straight into the forest, and another, slightly better established trail running north and south along the river. He recognizes the narrow trail leading into the forest as the one on the map. That this is their route is confirmed when the two satyr's head off in that direction. The vigilant party leader doesn't notice any immediate hazards on shore, but who knows what lies further along the trail that seems to disappear rather quickly in the green shadows. If any folk have passed this way before the party, the snow has covered any trace of their passage.
"Follow this trail south along the river. Past the second bend it branches to the east," volunteers Luther pointing to the wider trail along the river. Watching the satyrs he shakes his head, "that 'un'll take you into the Wyrmsfut. Runs along a crik, it does." "Mind you watch yerself in there. That forest is mean-spirited. Has a way of closin' in behind a man, it does. The mist is no help neither. Warm and damp no matter the season, as if the mighty wyrm had just lifted his foot, if you know what I mean."
Luther waves to Lucy and the ferry begins the return journey. "Ring the bell when you want across". The dour ferryman points to an iron bell hung from one of the nearby trees.
Gecktar Friday January 6th, 2006 5:09:23 PM
Gecktar one more time check his equipment. His hammer is ready and his shield not far i his back. 'Guide us to our fate Father' he prays to Domi, 'and lighten or path to make Your Will'.
He follows the first who take the trail
Zeoll d20+9=16 Friday January 6th, 2006 11:27:03 PM
The liontaur follows the group's guides on the path. He says an "Amen" to Gecktar's prayer, and adds one of his own: "And Motherr Wold, give us the wisdom to step lightly and surre-footedly in yourr forrest."
Zeoll keeps his eyes open and watches for dangers. [Spot check 16]
Toros Saturday January 7th, 2006 1:48:42 AM
What he hears about the forest does not soun d nice and makes the wemic become more cautious to move together with the rest of the group.
Meanwhile he makes a quick reflection of what he has experienced in the recent time and cannot help but give a small smile, warming himself up.
OOC: Ceil, it has been a great fun to see your role-playing with Toros in my absence. You have given him a very nice spirit of your, thus his, own! Again, thanks a lot indeed!!
Flat-top d20+7=27 d20+6=15 Saturday January 7th, 2006 7:16:58 AM
Flat-top takes his position in the back of the line, This is to protect the magic users. He will be on the alert Listening and Looking every where. But he can be heared saying, "The Same Prayer Here Domi!"
Listen - 27 Spot - 15
OOC: Your welcome, Tunc any time.
Ban Maeve d20+13=29 d20=20 Sunday January 8th, 2006 7:46:04 PM
Ban Maeve adjusts the folds of the makeshift coat as he disembarks from the ferry. As he passes the party leader he inclines his head in a sign of respect. "Woult you like me to follow behint the fey who leat the way or shall I follow at the ent?" His intelligent golden eyes glow in excitement. "I can try to fint any problems that might be aheat or I can try to cover our rear."
Regardless of where he is assigned, the wemic will take a moment to ensure his bow is strung with a new cord, and that it is readily accessible and his senses alert to dangers. (Spot=29, Listen=20, natural!)
