Valdor  d20=18
Saturday December 17th, 2005 11:27:56 AM

Valdor snores loudly.

The morning after. (DM Stephen)
Monday December 19th, 2005 7:33:11 PM

Everyone eats until they're satisfied and sets off for a restful nights sleep in warm clean beds. Flabersham shows Ve Mundr to one of Platinum Dragon Castle's many lavish and spacious guest rooms. The room appears to be tailored specifically for the cleric. There is a holy symbol of Domi hanging on the wall and a Book of Domi on the nightstand. The evening passes peacefully except for an annoying and presistent snoring sound echoing down the hallway.

The next morning arrives with the rising of the sun over the horizon the smell of freshly baked breads, spicy sausages and the sweet scent of maple syrup. When you all decide to come down, you're greeted with eggs, bacon, sausage, rolls, muffins, biscuts, and all the trimmings. Oh, and I forgot to mention a massive stack of pancakes.

Cori is up a little late this morning as she had decided to sleep in. She does get up in time for breakfast is finds that she is the first on down to eat. Taking the time to load down a plate with a little bit of everthing she settles in to have a bit of breakfast and wait.

She does prop her spellbook open upon the table, leaning against a vase, to study. She will give anyone that enters a good morning but not look up from her book. Several times she frowns as she tries to figure out what spells would be the best for use.

Nick
Monday December 19th, 2005 11:22:41 PM

Night before -
"I suppose they will be once everything has settled down," Nick says answering Cori's question." The funeral went well, as funerals go, and it was good to see the family regardless of the circumstances. I know my eldest brother Michael will do everything to ensure our mother wants for nothing, so I've no worries on that score."

Morning -
Nick is up early as usual. He didn't sleep too well, and decided to see if there was something left of his herb garden to salvage after the flood, so by the time he arrives in the dining room, Cori and maybe a few of the others are already there.

Valdor
Tuesday December 20th, 2005 12:42:51 AM

At breakfast, something really odd happens...Valdor doesn't show up. He heads straight for the exercise room and begins practicing with his swords. There's no dance however...no pretense of pretty swordsmanship. Simply a series of short, brutal attacks, with no thought of defense. Over and over the huge warrior goes through his motions, until he is sweating so much that he can barely keep a grip on his swords. He is stripped to the waist and is thoroughly exhausted within an hour or so.

He rests only five minutes out of thirty and continues.

Ve Mundr  d20+22=40
Tuesday December 20th, 2005 4:55:37 PM

Ve Mundr thanks the butler and prepares for bed, if he can, he will get a brandy sent to his room. The cleric will remove his armor after the brandy is delivered. Changing to a more comfortable set of silks, Ve stokes up a fire takes the book from the table and sits back into the great leather chair. Ve reads the book with interest and makes small notes in a side journal retrieved from his own pack. [Religion check 40] Not bad all in all he decides. While not precisely a scholar of the written word, there are not many who know more than the Hierophant on Domi. Ve finishes with a small prayer and then goes to sleep.

In the morning, he awakens with a stretch and immediately moves to the basin to freshen up and don his silk shirt and belt. He meditates for just over an hour and rereads a well worn small leather bound book, a symbol of Domi drawn almost child-like on the cover. That finished, Ve arrays his Hammer, shield and armor before him and prays over them to Domi for strength. [Cast Greater Magic Weapon on the Warhammer, Cast Magic Vestment on the Shield, Cast Magic Vestment on the Armor]

After getting his armor on, Ve heads to the dining room for breakfast. The sound of ringing steel peaks his interest slightly, but his stomach dictates a more immediate course of action.
Ve bows his head and blesses his own plate. "A fine morning to you all." He says to the gathered company. His voice smooth and merry, but not overly so. "Cori, Might I be of assistance? My spells are individual combat, defense, of course healing and for some miscellaneous situations. I can counter any spell, but do not have group enhancing spells or any very spectacular offensive fire power as you would classify it."

Nick
Tuesday December 20th, 2005 10:39:01 PM

aware of the missing Valdor, Nick looks at the stack of uneaten pancakes and frowns.
"I'm assuming that Valdor is extremely upset. Can we do anything that might help? Who did this terrible murder? Do we know?"

Mordrid
Wednesday December 21st, 2005 10:44:46 AM

Nick hears from over his shoulder, "apparently Parnoth is responsible."

Mordrid enters the room, "good morning all."

The ranger is dressed in a long soft fur. He strategically selects a chair between Nick and Ve Mundr.

He starts off by catching Nick up on all that transpired since the cleric parted with the group; all the way up to the assisination attempt on Eberyon. Then with the help of Cori, he explains what they learned scrying.

"I think Korrig was hired for the hit on Eberyon. All though the motives probably born somewhere much higher. The scrye shows Parnoth is responsible, although I wonder if magick of that nature can be twisted to mislead others. Im not so sure I believe what I saw."

Mordrid also makes an effort to get to know Ve Mundr, "The clergy come in all shapes and sizes do they not?" The conversation is interrupted by a particularly loud 'clang' from Valdor's workout. The ranger looks up. He continues, "This is not the Valdor that is written of. This is a man whose heart is broken. I would ask you to remember that."

"He has the kindest heart in all the realm; and strongest head to match. However his heart is not there at the moment to stop his head. He is dangerous, and a natural born killer. I would also ask you to stay out of his way."

"I'm not sure how this next mission is going to pan out. Our leader will not lead. And if he decides to do something wild or rash, there is nothing in my power that can be done to stop him."

"Valdor will not be able to descern fact from fiction. His justice will be blind, and bloody. That's where you two come in," looking first to Nick, then to Ve Mundr, "we will rely on your wisdom to see the truth."

"And Cori," said accusingly, "Valdor's behavior will be no excuse to put on a fireworks display." Apparently the Ranger has been paying closer attention to the drow than she may have first thought. He looks at her coldy, as he has stopped chewing his food. But he gives her a knowing wink and continues to masticate.

Vé Mundr
Wednesday December 21st, 2005 3:04:56 PM

Vé's eyebrows arch at Father Nicks mention of murder, It would certainly go a long way to explaining the man's mood. Being new to the table, Vé keeps his mouth shut and ears open. Many questions scream in the back of his mind, but they are ignored and walled off. Vé had long ago mastered his impulses in such situations with disciplined will.

The cleric reaches for another piece of bread and methodically spreads a paper thin coating of butter across its surface. Mordrid muses , "The clergy come in all shapes and sizes do they not?" and Mundr nods, "As the call changes so must the man. I am Pleased to meet..." The conversation is interrupted by a particularly loud 'clang' from Valdor's workout and with it a shift in Mordrid's tone. Vé stops and listens carefully. Much of what he hears disturbs him deeply, for if Valdor does step beyond himself the cleric is beginning to realize his earlier life's charge as a Protector might take on a new life and new meaning. To Mordrid, he inclines his head, "I will do all that I am able. Perhaps you can solidify our mission for me. It sounds as if we have been bidden by Ebyron to locate and end the threat of assassination to him." Another loud clang of steel echoes through the chamber and Vé turns slightly in its direction. "You can take heart Mordrid that it is indeed the Valdor that is written of down that hall. His heart is merely quieted, but still sounds. That became evident to me in the alley just last night." With the last, Mundr falls silent and looks to alter the discussion back to the upcoming 'mission'.

"So on Parnoth, I know some, but do not know much more. I can tell you that mere scrying spells can be thwarted. It is not overly difficult. From what I have heard the very fact you could scry to Parnoth, leads to conclusions that all you saw was staged to draw the wrong conclusions."

Corialote
Wednesday December 21st, 2005 3:09:44 PM

Cori looks up from her book as the newest member of the group speaks to her. She flashes him a brief smile. "I figure to prepare an equal amount of defense and offense spells...maybe a few more defensive though." She pats a pocket of her pants and smiles again. "I have a few extra offensive tricks." She spears a sausage and bites into the end of it and chews as others start to show up. She does give Nick a smile as she looked up from her book earlier and waved him over.

Looking up from her book as Mordrid talks she nods her head. "Our scrying would suggest Parnoth as the culprit with some help from a lich it appeared." Her brow does furrow slightly as she ponders the other words of Mordrid. "He is right though...scrying can be fooled...still if what I have heard about Parnoth is right, he would relish a game such as this." She takes a bite of pancake and chews slowly as she listens to the talk of Valdor and then swallows as she is given that look.

With a look of complete innocence and disinterest she locks stares with Mordrid. "I would have no idea what you are talking about." She sniffs lightly at the suggestion and then continues. "If you think a wall of ice is flashy...than you have not seen the least of my magic." With an impish smile she narrows her eyes and clicks her nails on the table. "I will try an aerial fireball next time...while everyone is looking up, we can make our escape...now that would be flashy." She turns back to her book with little thought as to flashy or not flashy. Though she has little doubt that she will do the same again if the need arises.

Morning News. (DM Stephen)
Wednesday December 21st, 2005 7:49:44 PM

Everyone eventually makes it down for breakfast, except for a few. Valdor decides to take advantage of an early rise to get in some private training. His warrior spirit opens a wide eye and expresses itself with a relentless assault on his inner demons. Myrridan is also not present. He arose early as well. Except he didnt decide to meditate or study his ancient tomes of natural lore. He instead gathered a few items, one being a broken sword hilt, and walked down to the castles gardens. He murmurs a few soft words and one of the large oak trees open up to him. Myrridan steps into the tree. The bark closes in behind him and he disappears from sight.

Conversation is brisk along the hallways and breakfast table. Many discussions on what has happened. The butler enters the room with a young boy wearing a uniform of a city employee. Flabersham interupts by introducing the young boy as a page from the Lord High Mayor. The boy holds several scrolls. Flabersham continues, "Sirs, the Lord High Mayor brings news of current events, and the progress of the repairs to Plateau City. You may read them if you wish at your own leisure. The Lord High Mayor thought it be important to have you all up to date since you've been gone." The young page urges Flabersham to read one of the scrolls. "Yes, yes, I was getting to that. The Lord High Mayor would like you all to know that there is grave news from Aisildur. The emperor has died. No reason as to why has been determined. The Prime Minister has temporarily taken control until a new emperor can be crowned. Ummm, that is all it says."

The page bows to you all after the message was given and leaves.

Parnoth...... He is a tricky one for sure. His area of magic specialty is surveilance and the such. I expect what we saw, we were meant to see. At the same time strength can oft be turned into weakness if enough thought is given to it. If we could make ourselves undetectable and then make our way to him we both would be blind, so to speak. He knows that we are too powerful for him physically. Hence the mind games. he doesn't as yet know of you, nodding to Ve Mundr, so that is something, as long as we can keep it that way. Perhaps we could send some body doubles to approach from different areas and then vanish to further throw him off track......

Mordrid
Wednesday December 21st, 2005 8:06:24 PM

Mordrid eyes Dahlia as he pulls long and hard from a cold glass of milk.

Whiping his mustache clean, "Dahlia, I am serious when I say lets make a bee line with all haste to his hoard. And along the way we bang the pots and pans. I am a hunter, and you a rogue. Sometimes our methods are the same, but this time they are not."

"He thinks he has us by the tail. By holding our dead loved ones hostage, he thinks that the lich will cause us to go after them directly. We know not where they are. But Parnoth's tail is much larger than ours, as is his greed. We take his hoard hostage, and make him come to us. He will. What else does he have to live for?"

Mordrid seems settled on this matter.

"Perhaps, we will get his attention when we make a rather sizable contributation to the Aisuldarian government, on behalf of Elenna, by means of the coffers of Parnoth himself. You think that will smoke him out?"

Nick
Wednesday December 21st, 2005 10:34:40 PM

Nick absorbs as much of the information as he can. There's something rattling underneath, in his subconscious, pulling at his concentration every now and then, like a monkey on his shoulder, jabbering in his ear.
The news of the Aisildurian Emperor's demise brings whatever's bugging him to the fore. Those unknowns, last night, in the alley. Ga'alish priests, had to be, and Nick still had unfinished business with those people.
Was it a coincidence, or had they been after him? Had he and Ve walked into a trap?

He made another mental connection, one he was sure the others had made, but nevertheless -

"I assume that we've considered the possibility of this being one almighty trap?" he asks. "I mean why would Parnoth be rattling our cage? He's not stupid. He knows what it will mean. Unless he's under threat...
"Perhaps paying him a visit, a careful one, might not be a bad idea, though.
"We'll need to keep our eyes on Aisildur, also," he adds. "A civil war over there is something I'm sure the Wold doesn't need right now. Not after everything we've already experienced."

Valdor
Thursday December 22nd, 2005 1:12:15 AM

Valdor continues for a few more minutes, but finally seems to have spent himself. He walks to the middle of his exercise area and sits down cross-legged on the ground. He gently lays his swords upon his lap, his Dragonslayer on the top. He closes his eyes and silently utters a prayer. He speaks very quietly, knowing the Gods will hear him.

He prays,"Domi, ever have I followed you and held true to your teachings. Before I was one of your Brothers, while I was one, and ever since it was taken from me. I was the one who carried your hammer after you had fought the Usurper and returned it to your hand. Father Alemi, ever have I listened and trusted those who serve you so well. Since you sent Father Nick to us, I have watched over him and kept him safe. I kept Ga'al from claiming him as one of his own. Caeroldra, we have a daughter in need...enough said. And Gargul, ever have I respected you, regardless of my difference of beliefs from your followers.

Never before have I asked anything of you all, the Gods of the Wold, and always have I served and respected. While others beg you for riches, power, health, and other things of their desires, I have not. Nor have I ever not requested out of disbelief, as I have always acknowledged your presence upon the Wold.

I ask for one thing from you now, and one thing only. Give me the courage, strength, wisdom, patience, anger, and vengence I desire upon those who have attacked my family...my daughter and the others. I ask for nothing for me, but for others. Take my life when this is done, but let me see this through. If they had merely killed them, I would be angry. But they have apparently not even given her a chance for her soul to pass into the After, to Lord Gargul's realm.

Let me find those responsible and destroy them. I beg this of you. Give me more power and knowledge than I have so that I can right this wrong. Your wills be done."

His tears fall freely, his muscles shake with axhaustion. He has chill bumps from being so hot and sweaty, and now his body has cooled down now. He appears to be sobbing, but is not. He is merely cold and sad, but doesn't move. He waits to see if any answer comes, although he knows it's unlikely that an immortal would bother with him, but he waits nevertheless.

Thursday December 22nd, 2005 7:46:28 PM

Mordrid, our ways are closer than you think, however, The one job I ever failed to complete was in Parnoth's treasure room. Now admittedly it ws a while ago and before I joined you, but That place is not east to get into unless he wants to let you in.

Vé Mundr
Friday December 23rd, 2005 9:17:39 AM

Vé listens and eases back into the chair at the dining table. The Dragons need to discuss a few things and his uninformed opinion about any course of action would simply be a bother. Many held precious to them are being held for some purpose and Parnoth and a lich are at the forefront of suspects, but to what end. Perhaps a connection to the news of the emporors death. Might one of them or the two be planning a power play for the kingdom and the hostages are to be used to keep the 'Dragons' out of the way. Then there was the assassination attempt upon Ebyron and the fact that the 'Dragons' are obviously on his side. Another complex relation Mundr reminds himself he will need to unravel.

The sounds of practice combat have ceased from down the hall, but Valdor has not arrived. Though after such a workout, Mundr knows that he would clean up first before presenting himself to anyone. To the task man, Valdor's problems can wait, he is but one man.

Corialote
Friday December 23rd, 2005 6:54:40 PM

Cori chews on the last piece of sausage that she has on her plate and looks up. "What we must figure out is if we need to play this game the hard way or the nice way." She stabs a piece of pancake and chews it up as she mulls over the problem. "There are many variables that we have to take into consideration...was it really Parnoth that is responsible...why did he allow us to see what we saw if it was him...what does he suspect our next move will be...well that is just a few of the things that I have been thinking about." She takes a drink of the orange juice that is in her mug and then sits it down.

As she reaches up and folds her spellbook down to its smallest form she looks to each of the group that is present. "Using his horde for leverage would be great...but if it was not Parnoth that we saw...then we invite him to call us a further thorn in his side and he may just decide to take offense." Closing her eyes she sighs and then shakes her head. "Then again if it is Parnoth...then going to his front door and knocking is not going to be the smartest of ideas either." She slips the spellbook into one of the pockets on her pants and then stands to stretch. "Still we have to figure out our next move and quick." She indicates the direction of the practice room and frowns. "Or we will not have to make a decision...just react." Stretching a little more she then sighs and slips back into her chair to see what they can decide.

Valdor
Saturday December 24th, 2005 12:03:39 AM

After a few minutes, Valdor, still chilled a bit, slowly stands and says quietly with a bit of a hiss,"And if you choose not to intervene in any way, that's fine as well. I have mortal friends who will help me find my daughter and make things right! You probably have more important things to do than listen to me."

He stretches for a minute or two before heading to clean himself up.

Mordrid
Saturday December 24th, 2005 3:50:41 AM

Mordrid leans back, "yah Cori... we're trying to make a decision."

"You've flipped over the toast and said it's burnt on both sides. Do you have a suggestion."

Corialote
Saturday December 24th, 2005 2:02:54 PM

Cori just gives Mordrid that helpless look and a shrug. "That is the problem...I really have no idea." She pulls out the ring and turns it slowly in her hand as she ponders. "I would be willing to go after Parnoth's treasure...if that is the idea." She glances up with that normal cocky smile and laughs lightly. "I am always game for trouble."

Nick
Sunday December 25th, 2005 12:18:43 AM

Looking at the food, Nick realizes that he isn't very hungry.
"If we have any doubt whatsoever that Parnoth is the culprit, then I suggest we do this the 'nice' way. Pay the old villain an official visit. Admittedly it does give away the element of surprise, and we'll need to be careful, but if we go in blasting or getting him all riled up over his treasure for nothing...
"I'm going to check on Valdor."

He stands up and goes in search of their leader.

Vé Mundr
Monday December 26th, 2005 8:27:45 PM

Vé continues to listen to the table conversation with interest.

Valdor
Tuesday December 27th, 2005 12:59:53 AM

Valdor finishes cleaning up and begins to get dressed. When Nick arrives, Valdor looks up and forces a smile. He tries to make it convincing, but falls short.

He stands up and says,"I am glad we're back together. I fear that I, too, may have dreams not fit for mortal man to endure."

He turns to face the window and continues saying,"But I will endure it, Father Nick. I swear that no matter what happens to me, I will see this through until my daughter finds peace again. I will fight Parnoth alone, or whoever is responsible, if I must. There is nothing mortal in the Wold that can stop me. He shouldn't have brought her into this. I fear I will become what I have fought against all these years, but I do not care. Gargul will have many fresh recruits soon...sent before their time, if they oppose me getting her back."

The huge warrior is leaning on the window sill, grasping the granite ledge. As he says those final words, the muscles on his back and in his arms tense and a large section of the ledge tears away. He takes his immediate frustration out on the remains and pounds the pieces into powder, ignoring completely the cuts he now has on his hands. Then he falls silent.

Mordrid
Tuesday December 27th, 2005 12:26:46 PM

Mordrid watches Nick walk away from the table. Then looking back at those at the table, "Where is Myrridan?"

Nick
Wednesday December 28th, 2005 1:53:21 AM

Nick leans on the door jamb.
"Valdor, whatever happens, know that you do not need to face this alone. We'll find her, and the others, and try to put right all the wrong that has been done." He sighs and runs a hand through his hair. "You know, back in the dining room, I suggested an official, non-threatening approach toward Parnoth, but that's not going to cut it, is it."
His eyes glance briefly toward the granite fragments on the floor. "So, lets put together some kind of positive plan. Maybe an under cover reconnaisance of Emerald for starters. We need to find that chamber. Are you ready to rejoin the others?"

Dahlia
Wednesday December 28th, 2005 1:55:00 PM

"Oh I can find the chamber. I skulked around it often enough. It's the getting in that will prove to be more difficult. Or maybe the getting back out.

DM Jan
Wednesday December 28th, 2005 11:25:51 PM

And so, as the Dragons debate their next move, things continue as normal at the castle.
There are work crews here and there, painting over water marks left by the flood, refitting rugs, and elsewhere staff carry on with their daily business.
The head cook can be heard berating one of his assistants as a pile of uneaten pancakes is returned to the kitchen.
"What did you put in them? They must have had the consistency of a bird cage floor mat! It's a disgrace!" of course there's usually something to scream about as far as the head cook is concerned.

What next for the Dragons?

Valdor
Thursday December 29th, 2005 12:35:59 PM

Valdor smiles at Nick, comforted by his presence and replies,"Aye, I'm ready all right. Let's go chat with the others and we'll get a game plan. I sure wish some of the others were back. I would feel a lot better with Gareth's and Onrad's swords, Tericus's healing, and Nonam's magical barrage...even though he's hard to bear sometimes."

Valdor walks with Nick back to the dining room, when he hears the head cook yelling. He calmly walks in the kitchen and says,"Sorry I'm late. You weren't going to throw those away were you?"

He walks over and takes the plate out of the cook's hand and heads into the dining room to eat and listen. The others notice he's calmed down quite a bit. There's no craziness in his eyes...at the moment. And then the pancakes begin to fly down his throat.

Vé Mundr
Thursday December 29th, 2005 1:54:21 PM

Vé Partially stands as valdor arrives at the table and gives a nod, "Good Morning Valdor." he says in a pleasant tenor. He also gives Father Nick a nod and a brief smile.

"It was just being discussed as to the better route. Knock on Parnoths door, in case the scrying was deception, or to just remove the pesky dragon once and for all."

Nick
Thursday December 29th, 2005 11:33:15 PM

Nick nods. "I'm sure the others will return when they can."
Back in the dining room with everyone - "So - is that the plan? Do we pay Parnoth a visit, and should we go in quietly?" He looks down at himself. "I'd better get my armour."

DM Jan
Thursday December 29th, 2005 11:39:58 PM

Valdor's pancake retrieval leaves most of the kitchen staff quietly chuckling at the head cook's expense.

In the dining room, as the discussion continues, Flabersham appears once again with another message scroll. It's sealed with black wax that has been indented with a dragon rampant and the letter 'S'.
"This was just delivered from the Floating City," says the butler, eyeing the scroll curiously.

Valdor  d20=17
Friday December 30th, 2005 10:54:40 AM

Valdor nods to Ve Mundr and replies,"Good morning. Forgive my rudeness last night...I wasn't myself."

He then asks the group,"What are the chances that was just a ruse and it wasn't Parnoth? If Korrig is behind it, the whole scene could've been staged and changed to make us think it was Parnoth, to send us after him. Nick, Ve, can either if you do a divination to Alemi or Domi to verify what we saw? Or is there another spell that works the same? That would be the starting point after we read this message."

He takes the scroll and opens it and reads it.

Vé Mundr
Friday December 30th, 2005 4:07:44 PM

Vé gives a slight wave of his hand at Valdor's apology. "Think no more on that, all was set right between us last night in that matter."
"as to the matter at hand, I only have second hand knowledge of what happened in the scrying, but memory serves that it was Parnoth who ended the spell and the lich who was upset about parnoth allowing us to 'see'. So I think the lich was very much a real part of the scrying. As to spells of a more powerful nature, the greater scrying is the only one and I personally can not 'Heighten' it."

Mordrid
Friday December 30th, 2005 4:52:24 PM

In the course of the ensuing conversation Mordrid raises several points.

"If we arrive at Parnoth's front door, do you believe he would deny what we have seen?"

"This is odd. Surely Parnoth must realize what he has done is suicide."

"Should we bring this to the attention of the High Lord, after all... his agents (the Platinum Dragons)are under assault by the sovereign king of another realm. Is that not an act of war? Our citizens have been murdrered."

"Should we go to the temple and investigate Valdor's daughter's disappearance?"

"Can we commune with the dead?"

"Is there anything to be learned from the mysterious bag that was thrown down to us?"

Nick
Saturday December 31st, 2005 1:22:55 AM

Taking in all the questions and comments raised by everyone, Nick asks Dahlia -

"That chamber - Ebyron said that the geological structure was akin to that of the Emerald Kingdom. Was the Chamber part of Parnoth's lair? If it was, then that's where the bodies are, right?"

DM Jan
Saturday December 31st, 2005 1:30:56 AM

The scroll unrolls to reveal the following message -

Something ghastly is afoot.
It appears that the old men want their castle back, and a lot more besides.
The one who came for me had no idea of my true nature, and, unfortunately for him, discovered the difference between a Dragon and a dragon.
He also had the temerity to boast of your future demise.
Be on your guard.

Dolores.

Valdor  d100=56
Saturday December 31st, 2005 1:47:30 AM

Valdor looks up at Mordrid's questions with a smile and says,"That's my old buddy. Asking the right questions. Although I'm fairly sure of the answer, I'll check out my daughter's disappearance and be right back."

He drops his fork in the middle of his plate, gulps down some fruit juice and activates his ring of teleport, landing on top of a house near the temple of Caeroldra where his daughter was staying. He'll hop down and quickly head into the temple.

Corialote
Saturday December 31st, 2005 4:58:28 PM

Cori leans back in her chair and listens to the renewed conversation with a nod. "Lets do some investigation then...unless the letter tells us anything important." She waves at it with a free hand.

She smiles and then nods her head. "I think that we can speak to some dead if you need to." With another thought she shakes her head though. "We could also do more scrying...but to what target do we turn our eyes?" With the comment of the bag she frowns slightly. "There are some spells that may give some answers but I am not sure..." She has not studied those types of spells in awhile and would have to spend time at her books. "I could check on that type of spells as well as ways to talk to the dead...if you have someone to talk to?"

Pausing a moment, to think back to her excursions and compare them to what she saw within the vision, she comes to the conclusin that she has absolutely no idea, and answers Nick in a similar fashion.

" You know I am not sure, there are similarities but then I never came across that particular room, so who knows. I might be within his palace complex, his cave complex, or somewhere else in the Kingdom entirely."

Nick
Monday January 2nd, 2006 12:46:01 PM

As Valdor exits, Nick tries to wrap his head around the other questions.

"I'm sure you're right, Mordrid. Parnoth will be in full denial, and yes - he's gotta know we're going be be coming after him.
"So - why? If he's involved - why? Perhaps Ve's comment on that lich being fundamental to stopping our scrying is something we should think on. That latest message - 'the old men want their castle back' - does that mean your old foes the Black Dragons? They're the only ones who have a castle over at the Big Float, right?
"Now does that mean we now have additional foes to worry about - or - are they at the back of it all?"

As Mordrid, Dahlia, Cori, Nick and Ve Mundr decide on what to do next, Valdor scoots off to the Temple of Caeroldra to do a bit of investigating on his own.

The priests there are distraught, and their worry and apprehension are thrown up a notch or two when the Platinum Dragon arrives, looking for his daughter.

"This is what we've found so far," offers the head priest after an abject apology. "From what we can tell, no magic was used in Valdorra's abduction. We found traces of her blood on the garden pavings, where we think she was taken. but there was blood from other humans there, too.
"Also - we find some small traces of soil, left behind from the sole of a boot. We have a druid looking into it now."

Moments later, two other priests arrive with a rather wacky-looking individual, who carries the pungent, mixed scent of cut grass and old mushrooms.
He, she - it's hard to tell which, holds out both hands. In the palm of each are small grains of soil.
"This - Emerald Kingdom. Not much in the way of pollutants, so it's not from the City itself. But this!"
The druid extends his/her right arm out a little further for better emphasis. "Oh, we don't see this very often. Osto! It's the smell!"

Cori perks up and then leans forward on the table. "Not to be a bother...but could the newer of us be brought up to speed." She looks to the newest cleric to the group and shrugs her shoulder. "I am not too sure what has gone on before with Parnoth or these Black Dragons?" Maybe a little more information will make things clearer or maybe just make them worse.

As she looks back to Nick she gives a grim look. "Could it be both foes working together to eleminate a mutual thorn?" She really does not like the sound of that but...what can you do.

Valdor  d100=60
Tuesday January 3rd, 2006 12:56:42 AM

Valdor pales a bit at the news of his daughter. He listens intently to the druid and says,"You have my thanks. I will do everything in my power to return her. Pray to Caeroldra that she will help me in my battles to find and free her. She probably won't listen to me and my daughter deserves better than what I can give."

With a deep bow, Valdor activates his ring and reappears in the dining room standing in his chair. He sits down briefly in his chair.

Nick
Tuesday January 3rd, 2006 8:33:09 PM

"Cori, if they ARE working together, then this might be tougher than we thought. As far as the Black Dragons are concerned, I'm not well aquainted with them, either. Right now they're an unknown factor, which worries me."

He's relieved to see Valdor back, and hopes there is some news that might help.

The priest assure Valdor that they'll pray and hope the Goddess replies. If she does, then he'll be one of the first to know.

The warrior returns to the castle dining room where the others are sat. The table has been cleared of breakfast, and is now laden with carafes of water and a platter of fruit.

Mordrid
Wednesday January 4th, 2006 12:52:06 AM

The ranger exhales and pushes away from the table; the chair makes a cranky noise.

He looks up, as if it may all be too much for him.

"I've been doing this for too long. I can't even remember why I'm angry."

Then he looks up and sees a room half full of demi humans. These long lived ones don't forget things. Humans have that shameful coping mechanism of forgetting pain. Humans remember that at some point in the past they had been hurt, they just seem to forget how or why they hurt. It makes the few remaining days go by easier.

"Korrig the Stalker is a Black Dragon. He has been my bain for what seems like ages. He is like me... a hunter of men." The ranger pales in shame.

"He is the last challenge,(some instinctual feeling that time is closing)not Parnoth the cowardly dragon. Parnoth has too much fear in his heart. He would never face us. Korrig on the other hand, is insane."

"However, he can't kill me. I am already dead."

The ranger goes cold; perhaps another coping mechanism, the one that's kept him alive this long.

Vé Mundr
Wednesday January 4th, 2006 10:17:11 AM

OOC Vé Mundr is human.

The Heirophant sits and listens, many of the famed dragons are having struggles of thier own it would seem. How differently the Wold at large would see them he wonders. But what is he to say, I've fought my demons, won my soul and freed my heart and it is not for me to instruct or guide unless asked. And they would surely ask Father Nick anyway. No, they will have to come to thier own solution in that way. The most dangerous of foes, pity, remorse and loss. Domi give them courage.

Vé does speak up at Valdors return. "There are spells that should locate her regardless of where she is, even off plane." Looking to Cori, "Have any tried Discern Location or do we know for a fact she is Mind Blanked?"

Turning to the group at large, "I have some questions if I may be so bold. So Korrig is a hunter and evil and therefore a Black Dragon. Mordrid's twisted reflection. What do we know of this Lich who was with Parnoth? It seems that all of you have been personally attacked, Valdor's daughter, Mordrid's polar twin."

"Who and or what else is involved? Who might 'the old men' be? Are the Black Dragons all alive and well? Was this very castle annexed or built?"

"What of Ebyron and the assassination attempt upon him? Now is not the best time to hold information close to your vest friends. Father Nick has been gone for some time. I just got here. It appears Cori is, relatively speaking, new as well. As you move the Wold changes and pivots with you. Self deprevation, melencholoy and doubt are not luxuries you can afford in such great quantities."

"I know I overstep myself, but we have been talking for hours and have said almost nothing to this point. I do not of course propose anything rash, I am just very much feeling like I am very much outside of the loop and can not contribute right now. As a solution I propose we pick a single topic and explore it thoroughly and the Black Dragons seem like as good as any to me."

Mordrid
Wednesday January 4th, 2006 10:33:12 AM

Mordrid's eyes flash as Ve Mundr speaks.

"Yes, let's discuss the Black Dragon's. And when we are done, some day... you can tell us your story. I'm fascinated to know how one can be so wholesomely pink, as the unborn in the womb."

Mordrid fidgets, but first let me catch you up on Parnoth..."

[I am preparing Parnoth's story is it pertains to the Gold Dragons. And by the way, epic level on-line games are slow. Lot's of story and dialogue... combat is very difficult to run.]

Valdor
Wednesday January 4th, 2006 11:39:11 AM

Valdor glances at Mordrid when he speaks then back to the new cleric of Domi, then back to Mordrid again. He stands up and says,"The cleric is right. It s time for me to put my grief and vengeance thoughts on hold. I have never been so out of control in all my life.

First, I think Ve Mundr misunderstood, my brother. Let me clarify and we'll make decisions. The original Black Dragons were all male. Korrig the Stalker was one of them. He and Mordrid have been enemies of the soul for a long time. Most of the original Black Dragons are dead, or so we thought. I take the meaning as that they are alive and wanting their old castle back. The new Black Dragons want to keep their castle. Unlike us, who are joined by many new members while some of the others have retired, we have stayed together and welcomed newcomers. Evil has a way of turning on itself.

I think the original Blacks went into hiding after we fought and basically destroyed them, then the Storm Dragons did the same with the next bunch of them. They, Korrig being the leader still I guess, are probably either in league with, or are behind the abductions and desecrations we witnessed, along with the attempt on Eberyon's life.

Second, Korrig is not a Black because he is a hunter, but rather he is a hunter who is a Black Dragon and their leader. So, I think he is the one who has manipulated events to their current status, much more than Parnoth. Parnoth is basically a coward when it comes right down to it. Yes he is a plotter and schemer, but he is still a coward. I think someone wanted us to see him in that scrye pool. The clue, I think, was the green dragon scale that fell from the bag with our loved ones' belongings. I actually wouldn't be surprised if they have the green lizard held captive too, as he was before by Marteaus's followers.

And lastly, when I went to the temple, my daughter is, in fact missing. A small amount of her blood was found on the cobblestones of the garden. So, it had to be a highly skilled thief or assassin that took her. That would be Korrig. He made a small mistake, however. There was a small amount of soil from a boot that fell off near where she was taken. A druid cast spells and such that druids do, and divined the location of the dirt. Some came from the Emerald Kingdom, but was pure, so as to not be from the city area, the other...came from Osto.

I think we have some scouting to do in the Emerald Kingdom, but a friendly visit to Parnoth would definitely be in order. Of course, we are probably walking into a trap. So, while I would still like Ve or Nick to speak with your deities for some confirmation, we should prepare for battle and a stealth mission. Cori, Stoneskins and offensive thereafter would be nice. Improved Invisibility, the ability to move silently and fly, things like that. But make sure you have as many offensive spells as you can. We will probably use them all up very soon."

He looks around at the others and finishes with,"Ve, you may well be new, but fresh ideas are always welcome. We know these foes well, but sometimes we miss things. Your questions are always welcome, even if a bit painful to hear. So everyone speak and we will decide."

Mordrid
Wednesday January 4th, 2006 1:11:26 PM

Mordrid leans back in his chair with his hands behind his head. When Valdor finishes he exhales slowly. Looking at Ve Mundr, the ranger shrugs slighly, as if to say, "that's that."

Nick
Wednesday January 4th, 2006 8:35:08 PM

Nick stands up. "I'll get on to the trap question, if you'll excuse me," he says, and heads off to perform a divination and get himself ready for action.

In his room, he kneels and sets alight incense, two white candles and a small bowl of healing herbs.
His question to Alemi-
What kind of trap can we expect to find on arriving to meet with Parnoth the Emerald Dragon.

He'll return to the others, immediately he has the answer.

DM Jan
Wednesday January 4th, 2006 8:46:44 PM

Information and questions fly across the table as the Dragons determine what to do next.

In the smoke that rises from the burning herbs, words curl and form in front of the cleric.

It is a trap that has already been sprung. Utter destruction now begins to venture forth.

Back in the dining room, Flabersham appears.
"Would any of you be needing anything?" he asks politely and formally.

Corialote

Cori listens as everything is layed out before them and nods her head. "That answers a lot and fills in some holes that I was wondering about." With a look of apprehension she nods her head again. "A good mix of spells then." She starts muttering to herself as she starts to open back up her spellbook.

As Flabersham speaks up she looks up and then slaps her forehead. "I have this...got it for a present." She pulls out a four foot long rainbow tuna that she hands over to the man. "Maybe it will make a fine meal for later." She then goes back to her book and awaits the rest of the groups information.

Dahlia
Thursday January 5th, 2006 4:10:07 PM

Dahlia listens and ponders as the others discuss options and then comments almost to herself but loudly enough for others to hear.

"I truly expect Parnoth is nothing more than a dupe in this whole thing or possibly not even involved. This sounds too much like the stuff Korrig has pulled in the past with his other associates. I just hope a certain halfling is still tagging along with Korrig as I owe him a little something for a past offense."

Mordrid
Thursday January 5th, 2006 8:35:29 PM

Mordrid holds a hand out, kindly silencing Flabersham.

"As for Parnoth, long ago Aries, a member of the Gold Dragons at that time, was on a quest to fletch an arrow of awesome magical power. The quest led to the Green Dragon Parnoth, who had the regent that Aries needed. We learned then of the dragon's nature. In those days before the last cataclysm, Parnoth had already begun to collect the Rings of Ascension, as were other evil players that we would later find out about. He sent Aries on a quest to find a ring, and we followed. Parnoth also sent one of his aids with us to witness, or spy, on what Aries would accomplish. This aid was called an ambassador for the realm of the Emerald Kingdom."

Mordrid pauses and leans back to gather his thoughts, running his hands thru his thick greying locks, "One afternoon in the fields of Izen, in a clash of mistrust, Valdor slew the ambassador, and the Gold Dragon's fell apart right there on the plains."

"Upon Valdor's return to Plateau City, he was arrested for the murder of the ambassador of another realm. It was then that we learned of Parnoth's political ways of effecting great change in the Wold. In the course of Valdor's trial, Parnoth's aids spun a terrible web, and it was likely that Valdor would spend the rest of his days in the dungeons of the realm that he had served so valiantly. Parnoth himself arrived at Valdor's trial in human form, and granted our leader amnesty, and withdrew the charges of murder against Valdor. The motion had a catch; Valdor could never again enter the Emerald Kingdom, nor could he raise a finger to harm the dragon. Thus the clever Green Dragon believed he had tricked the young adventuring troupe, and had for ever protected himself from the Dragon Slayer... Valdor."

"That is why Valdor hates Parnoth, and that is why Valdor disdained the politicians of New Elenna. The greatest hero of all... alienated by his own."

Mordrid looks at Ve Mundr squarely, "I hope that helps. What Parnoth lacks in spine, he makes up for with cleverness. He worked too hard to isolate Valdor. Antagonizing the Dragon Slayer at a time like this is totally out of Parnoth's nature. He want's to roll in his treasure without fear of harm. That's what's kept the dragon in the game this long."

Mordrid glances at Valdor to gauge how badly the tale stung.

Valdor
Thursday January 5th, 2006 10:59:06 PM

Valdor grimaces a bit as the story is told. He adds,"Well, it wasn't forever, it was only for five years that I agreed to stay out. Anyway, we saved the dragon's bacon when he was captured by Marteaus's followers. We rescued him and could've left him and taken his treasure then...maybe should have. But the Usurper was using his blood to make an army of half dragon type creatures and we couldn't let them do that.

And Aries was going bad already. He had a dark side to him, and evil inside him more than just dark. He defended the assassin I killed. It was a lifetime ago, though, wasn't it Mordrid? So much has changed since then.

Oh well, next subject. Once Nick gets back, we'll decide what to do."

Nick
Thursday January 5th, 2006 11:20:23 PM

Nick dashes back to the others, his fingers toggling the final buckles of his armour.

"I asked about a trap in the Emerald Kingdom - the answer I received was this - that it is a trap that has already been sprung. Utter destruction now begins to venture forth.
I'm not quite sure what that means - but it doesn't sound too good. Parnoth aside - I fear for the people of that Kingdom."

DM Jan
Thursday January 5th, 2006 11:38:29 PM

Amidst the talk and the decision-making process, the darker aspects of the Dragon's past come to light. They serve as a poignant reminder that power, riches, fame, and even the simplistic act of wanting to do good - come at a terrible and often extremely personal cost.

Cori's fish is sent off to the kitchen without further ado.

Mordrid
Friday January 6th, 2006 2:49:27 AM

Mordrid growls at Nick, "When does your god ever give straight answers? Why always riddles!?"

The ranger pushes himself up out of his chair and pulls his travel sack off the floor.

Valdor
Friday January 6th, 2006 10:59:11 AM

Valdor responds,"It's just their way. They have to let us figure it out, I suppose, which is fine with me. I guess it's time to investigate this 'destruction' that is coming forth. Let's prepare for an outdoors journey my friends."

With that, he heads up to his room and gets prepared then heads back to the war room.

Corialote
Friday January 6th, 2006 2:08:14 PM

Cori nods her head as more of the tale is told and she starts to ponder. "So you figure it is the Blacks using Parnoth as a ruse." She shakes her head and mutters to herself as she sends out a call to a certain raven.

"Part of this seems a little too easy...but then again...they hold all the cards right now." Shortly a raven flies into the room and lands upon her shoulder and cocks it's head to the side. "You called Mistress." Cori looks to Amarth and smiles. "I think I will be needing your help Amarth." She then flips back to her spellbook and tries to figure out the perfect compliment of spells to be needed in the upcoming fight.

Vé Mundr
Friday January 6th, 2006 5:05:38 PM

Vé listens intently to both Valdor and Mordrid. Absorbing every word and the keen observer will note, every non uttered word in body language and pause. Like any other cleric of his rank, Vé is a powerful observer of others.

"I agree with you on Parnoth, the scale was in a bag with items representing loss and pain to the rest of you that you would see safe or reclaimed. Parnoth I feel would then be in this category and not the designer. The scrying may have been the only way he felt safe to use as a contact hoping it would lead to assistance and rescue. He allowed himself to be scried upon, thus setting us on the correct path to his possible liberation."

"It would seem the old men might be the original Black Dragons and Korrig has brought them and maybe more together for a final confrontation or greater bid for immortality. Likely many of them if not all are aware as we." Vé suddenly pauses, "How secure are we from divination here?"

"Osto, I am afraid I do not know of this, Does it mean something significant?"

Vé picks up a drink as Mordrid speaks of Parnoth but it gets no closer to him, as if he has forgotten he is holding it as he listens to the ranger. "A shrewd tact indeed, but admirably clever. I have not crossed swords with Parnoth, but he reminds me of many I have. Though a mere 5 years seems shortsighted, but that is of smaller consequence. It all seems even ore likely upon that recount that Parnoth is a marionette and not a master."

Vé seems perfectly at ease under Mordrid's square gaze and with a pursed lip in a different thought nods, "Yes, it helps enough."

Nick arrives and Vé partially stands again as the cleric moves to the table. "Already sprung, a reference to the bag that has begun all of this? We are on the hunt and the first part of a trap is to draw out the prey."

The cleric will then retire and prepare for a longer and more difficult journey

Mordrid
Friday January 6th, 2006 7:17:29 PM

Mordrid listens to Ve Mundr's recount and nods, "It seems you have a firm understanding of what is going on. However, the five years in question, I think that is a clause that Valdor amended to the agreement post facto." ;P

"The dirt from Osto baffles me. Osto is my home town, and not many I cross with have ever been there, or even heard of it before. Osto is surrounded by swamps, far to the north; as far north as had been explored before the cataclysm. Osto is home to a ruffer sort; the home to hunters and assassins. I did not think that Korrig was from there. Either someone he was with tracked it, or he is trying to pry between my relationship with Valdor by implicating me. He must know that together, Valdor and I are undefeatable. Divided we fall."

Valdor
Friday January 6th, 2006 9:34:03 PM

Valdor adds,"Or, he may have just come form Osto where he gathered your money and then went straight to capture my daughter.

And Parnoth cancelled his desire to keep me banished from his kingdom whenever he needed our help. So, he broke the agreement. I would love for one of our politicians to try to cite me or have me arrested again for something. They wouldn't like the result or their immediate reduction of soldiers to guard the city should they try. I won't go nicely ever again under false accusations."

He stops for a second and then asks,"Who lost someone or something from the Emerald Kingdom? Or maybe they left there, then went to Osto, then on to the Temple."

Nick
Friday January 6th, 2006 11:44:13 PM

Nick gives Mordrid a grin. "When has the blessed Alemi ever let us down?"
"Dahlia, better bring everything sharp, and that includes your wits."
Finishing off the clips on his armour, he adds to Ve, "I'm not sure about that bag. Parnoth always let it be known that if anything bad happened to him, monsters would roam his land. His own little trap. I'm hoping that isn't the trap that's been sprung.
"Mordrid, would you say the Blacks are capable of tackling Parnoth - and defeating him?"

The undercurrent of tension begins to rise in anticipation of a journey. Staff know to either get swiftly out of the way, or help with any preperations necessary, and with all possible speed.

Outside, Plateau City basks in the mid morning sun, unaware of trouble elsewhere, busy enough with it's own repairs and daily business.

So. Where to?

((OOC SteveH, have you seen the 5th graders readers poll, in the Loot n Booty?))

(Just did. It's rather flattering, really. Cool stuff. Wonder how he'd rate with older kids and adults? Of course, in defense of the others, a hero is only a hero if he has a great group around him. Without the others, he'd just be a big fighter/rogue. He's like a quarterback on a football team: Can't do it all by himself, nor would he want to)

Valdor makes sure that everyone is ready, then asks,"Any thoughts on where we should start in the Emerald Kingdom? Parnoth will have detect spells up for any teleportation into his realm. We would need to appear somewhere outside the boundaries in a remote area and then Mordrid could lead us into his realm."

Dahlia
Monday January 9th, 2006 8:44:05 PM

What about the Talons' new place. Saryd's tower. As I recall its only a half a day or so from the city. Parnoth probably doesn't watch as much popping in and out around there as perhaps other places.

Mordrid
Monday January 9th, 2006 8:47:09 PM

"What is Parnoth's relationship with the Talons these days?"

Nick
Monday January 9th, 2006 8:57:56 PM

"Dahlia if that tower you speak of is near Culverwood, then it might not be a bad idea. Perhaps the wild magic in that woodland might throw off any detection spells. Maybe.
"As for the Talons, I'm completely in the dark as to how things are with them."

The Dragons hone their plan of attack. As for getting into the Emerald kingdom, there are many ways -

From the south and the Trade Road, with it's varied traffic.
From the north and Culverwood, with it's wild magic, hidden communities of elves and the Saryd Tower .
Along the Lygn River from the east.
Into the City itself, at the centre of the realm.
North west of the City lies Parnoth's lair.
And perhaps there are more...

Valdor replies,"That works for me, but I've never been there, so teleporting will need to be done by someone who has seen it."

He holds the ring out for someone to take.

Cori and Amarth
Monday January 9th, 2006 11:11:27 PM

Cori slips her spellbook back into a pocket on her pants and nods her head. "Ready to go." She listens as they talk of where to teleport to and knows that she will not be able to help with some of them.

"I could get us near the Culverwoods...I know of a spot that researchers go to converse with those elves that work in magic." She runs this through her head and then nods. "It should be unused this time of year or at least there were no trips scheduled that I know of." She waits to see where they will decide to pop into to get close to the city.

Jan, Cori likes plants and magic so this might work out. If not than feel free to change or ignore any part of my post that does not work. Oh and spell list with next post.

Dahlia
Tuesday January 10th, 2006 5:28:56 PM

I have been there once and but never inside, so I should be able to get us safely there. As to their relationship with Parnoth.... Rumor has it, that is if you listen to street talk is that Parnoth's replacement is to come from within their ranks......

Mordrid
Tuesday January 10th, 2006 8:43:43 PM

Mordrid whips around to Dahlia, "Replacement? Explain."

Mordrid glances over at Valdor, "I think we should gate in to the south on the trade road; more traffic there. Culverwood is a whole nother story and we don't have time for enchanted forests. I'm a ranger, I don't think we need to be in that forest. There is no such thing as south in that place. No guarantees I can quickly get us thru. And as far as sneaking around my friend, the Dragonslayer, it is ill advised. Let's go in like Knights of the Realm of Elenna. Sneaking is a moniker for deceit."

Nick
Tuesday January 10th, 2006 11:30:36 PM

"Well, being human, I'm with Mordrid. I've heard only elves who live in that forest can find their way around. And there's one thing we haven't considered - the political situation with elves in the aftermath of the Ebyron debacle. No offense Valdor, Cori, but we might find ourselves facing hostile tribes of elves, never mind a twitchy Parnoth."

DM Jan
Tuesday January 10th, 2006 11:34:22 PM

As the Dragons consider their options, life outside their walls rolls on, heading toward midday.
Life, or something like that, rolls, hisses, crawls and growls along in the Emerald Kingdom, too.

Valdor
Wednesday January 11th, 2006 12:09:44 AM

Valdor hands the ring to Dahlia and says,"It's the south then. Sneaking would be fun, but I get your point. Of course, whoever has our loved ones will hear immediatley upon our arrival, you can be sure of that. I would rather us go invisible until we get to Parnoth's lair. We can watch for a while and try to figure out what's going on."

"I am ready, an dleave the direction to approach in more experienced hands with Parnoth. since time is of some import, I certainly agree with Mordrid. The Culverwood is probably not the best way."

Dahlia
Wednesday January 11th, 2006 9:40:41 PM

Looks up at Mordid's comment and shrugs. Rumor has it that there is a propecy foretelling Parnoth's end and that he will be replaced by well respected and know elf. The general populace believes it to be one of the talons....

Dahlia looks at the ring that Valdor is proffering her. Umm I don't know much about the south of the city. The talons' place is just north of the city along the main road.

Valdor
Wednesday January 11th, 2006 11:54:29 PM

Valdor nods at Dahlia and says,"Well, someone who knows the place take this ring and get a mental picture so we can get going. I am doing my best to think this through and not go in charging like normal."

He continues to hold the ring out, waiting for someone to step up.

Nick
Thursday January 12th, 2006 12:16:55 AM

"I traveled along that road when I was a kid, with my father and my eldest brother, so..."
Unless Mordrid has a more recent memory, he'll take the ring, visualise the southern end of Parnoth's realm, the road in particular, and do the dastardly deed in order to get the Plats where they want to go.

DM Jan
Thursday January 12th, 2006 12:38:30 AM

Flabersham raises an eyebrow as a soft, percussive 'thwap' reverberates through the dining area of the castle and beyond.
"Always on the move," he says to no one in particular, his eyes shifting toward the now empty dining room, before getting on with the important business of running the Platinum Dragon's Plateau City residence.

The effect at the other end of the teleport is less noticable to those not affected by the spell, for two reasons -

1) In the open air, the air displacement effect dissipates instantly.

2) Traffic on the Trade Road is exceptionally busy. So busy in fact to be a tad unusual. Folk are on foot, or on horseback. All of them seem to be carrying hastily packed belongings. All of them seem to be extremely distracted, frightened perhaps, certainly enough to give the sudden arrival of the Platinum Dragons only a passing glance.

It's not the most auspicious of arrivals.
About 50 yards to the east, is a t-junction with the road that heads north, directly up into the Emerald Kingdom.
It's chaos. There is a large body of people, streaming south, into the junction, and then trying to head either west or east on the Trade Road.
By the looks of it, some of the guards from the local fort are trying to do some crowd control. They are having a difficult time of it.

It is also raining. Hard.
The road is puddled already and raindrops are bouncing hard off the ground. Maybe the weather's own way of saying 'Welcome to the Emerald Kingdom.'

Mordrid
Thursday January 12th, 2006 3:50:43 AM

"For the gods' sakes, what do we have here? An Exodus! Oh the trap has been sprung my friends. The realm is in chaos, and that speaks more than volumes about the well being of our dear friend Parnoth. Trouble is in the air."

Watching the long line of people heading south down the road, "Do we need to go invisble?"

Valdor
Thursday January 12th, 2006 10:30:06 AM

Valdor will grab any man he finds around the ages of 30-50 and says,"I know you are in a hurry, but tell me from what. We will try to protect your backs, but we need to know what we are facing."

Over his shoulder he says,"Ve, can you take a ride up high on your carpet and scout a bit for us?"

Ve Mundr  d20+14=16
Thursday January 12th, 2006 11:59:10 AM

"On it." comes the immediate reply to Valdor and he pulls the carpet from its resting place under his pack and with a snap the 5x10 rug unfolds and floats before him. Stepping aboard, Ve will the carpet up and ahead, quickly climbing into the sky. The rain prevents him from seeing much thus far. [Spot 16]

Dahlia
Thursday January 12th, 2006 7:21:10 PM

Looking around at all the people her fingers start itching and she physiaclly puts her hands into her pockets.

At Mordrid's comment Dahlia removes a wand from her pack. Cutesying as she flourishes it she speaks softly. "Greater Invisibility at your service. Who wants it?"

Cori and Amarth
Thursday January 12th, 2006 11:15:49 PM

Cori looks around and then draws up the hood of her cloak. Her hair is already quite wet and she wonders how long it will take to dry. Amarth flaps his wings in indignation as he slips inside the hood as well. "Mistress...could have told me it would not be suitable for a bird." She gives a half smile as she surveys the people some more and tries to get a general feel for the exodus.

She looks to Dahlia and then nods her head. "We could save your wand for later and I could get us all in one spell...but you will have to be careful of what actions you take or the spell will end." Part of this is for Dahlia to save her wand and to see if Valdor still wants to try this undercover.

Nick
Thursday January 12th, 2006 11:36:33 PM

Nick gives a sigh as he hears the heavy plink plink of rain, bouncing off his helmet.
Taking his cue from Valdor, he says -

"Hang on Dahlia, lets see whats going on first."

He too walks up to anyone who looks like they might give an intelligent answer, and tells them who he is, and asks them what is going on.

DM Jan
Thursday January 12th, 2006 11:56:27 PM

Ve's carpet takes him quickly up into the air. Up here a cold wind bites into any exposed skin and the rain gusts and swirls around him.
The road coming in from the north is just one long string of folks, pushing to get south and away from something. But from what? To the north he can see the low rolling hills that lead into the Emerald Kingdom proper, but from this current vantage point, nothing else that would suggest what had alarmed the people below.

Down on the ground, now that some of them have been apprehended, people are taking notice of who is among them, and are beginning to eye Valdor, Mordrid, Dahlia, Cori and Nick with a mixture of wonder and hope.

"V - Valdor?" says the dishevelled 40 year old man now stood in front of the Dragonstone. "Thank Alemi! The monsters are coming. There are huge holes in the ground, and terrible sounds coming from their depths. We're all trying to get out before we're all torn apart!" He has a small child with him who's looking up at Valdor, wondering who this big stranger is.

Nick finds two elderly ladies clutching at his robes.
"It was the hole! It swallowed up all our sheep, AND our brother. Took him, just like that. Oh there are some horrible sounds coming out of that hole! Parnoth's bane is what it is! And we're all doomed!" They both start to cry.

Mordrid
Friday January 13th, 2006 12:31:20 AM

Watching Ve Mundr take off on his magic carpet, per instruction, Mordrid murmers, "great, a magic carpet. That should really blend in with the locals." Then seeing Valdor swamped with adoring fans, Mordrid realizes that it doesn't matter anyway; and it's the ranger's fault for not wanting to go via the northern route... like Knights of the Realm he said.

Responding to Dahlia, "You might as well make the magic carpet disappear into thin air."

It's beyond reason how a ranger can still call himself a ranger by trade while traveling with a group of heroes. Is he having a bad day?

Regarding the elderly ladies, and directed to whomever in the group might be listening,"Shame about the sheep. I wonder if they were close to their brother at all?"

'Enough sarcasm, it's time to do your job.' The ranger steps off the road a few steps, pupils wide, and nostrils flared, he takes in the scent of the wind, its direction, and the timeliness of the weather as it relates to the seasons. Looking at the condition of the road he tries to account for the duration of the exodus, and when it may have begun. What percent of the travelers were native elves? Where there any Emerald Kingdom guards keeping the peace? How much daylight remained?

Turning back to the road, and shouting over the wind and rain to his group, "The dragon's self defense system has kicked in! and the beasts have been released!"

Had Parnoth gone completely mad? Having the Dragonstone and his troupe knocking on his door was not smart, and completely out of the dragon's character.

The ranger stood tall and took it all in; with one large cupped hand, he cleared the raindrops from his face, from forehead to chin.

Valdor  d20+18=33
Friday January 13th, 2006 10:25:40 AM

Valdor, oblivious to the external conditions at the moment, gently pats the man on the shoulder with one hand and tussles the child's hair with his other. He replies,"Whatever it is won't reach you all if I have anything to do with it. Make haste and stay close to the road or on it. Do not fear child. Think of this as a grand adventure."

Valdor slips something deftly into his pack while he keeps his eyes locked on the man's eyes. He steps back and bellows,"STAY TO THE ROAD! MAKE HASTE BUT DO NOT PANIC! WE WILL TRY TO GUARD YOUR BACKS. TAKE CARE OF THE CHILDREN FIRST. MEN GATHER ANY WEAPONS YOU HAVE AND MOVE TO THE BACK TO PROTECT THE LINES. WE WILL TRY TO DEFEND WHILE YOU ESCAPE! HAVE COURAGE PEOPLE OF EMERALD KINGDOM!"

With that, he says,"I don't think invisible will be necessary right now. I wonder what has happened to Parnoth. Apparently he's in as much danger as anyone for him to release his monsters. We need to get to the back of this group and quickly."

He turns and starts jogging, wiping his face and pushing his wet hair back out of his eyes. He scans the crowd as he goes, looking at the people as he can and nodding to show they are there to help.

Ve Mundr
Friday January 13th, 2006 11:24:43 AM

The wind bites little through the elemental ward and Ve has been in the rain before. Shielding his eyes he looks through the curtain, but still nothing evident presents itself. At least there seems to be no immeiate threats. Noticing the group pushing forward against the mass of fleeing humanity, Ve heads back down and wuickly gathers in the game plan.

The carpet and Ve drop in beside the group, "Valdor, the line stretches to the horizon. The carpet can carry another 450 pounds. Takers? We can get further back much quicker then to delay anything."

Whoever gets on, Ve commands the carpet to head off north about 20 feet off the ground. Speed 30

Friday January 13th, 2006 5:08:54 PM

Cori falls in behind those burlier warriors so that they can make a path for her to fall into. She glances around at all the people and the hope filled eyes that turn to the group. She gives what she hopes is a nod and smile of comfort to these people, to let them know that they will help out.

Glancing to the Plat in front of her she shakes her head. "So this is the emergency plan that Parnoth had set up?" She can see where it could be effective but why endanger subjects that may have nothing to do with her troubles. "Was it suppose to endanger his subjects?" Dragons are an unknown to her as she has never really had time to talk to one for any length of time.
