DM Bob & Carla Sunday January 8th, 2006 10:52:39 PM
The party moves eastward into the swamp following the satyrs who choose the path less travelled. A mist clings close to the ground, enveloping their feet and further silencing footsteps on the soft earth. The Chosen of Domi sort out their marching order, and ensure their weapons can be reached easily should trouble come unbidden. Zeoll, Flat-Top and Ban Maeve scout the area, but other than a fox who's path parallels the party's for a short while and a few small grey birds there is naught to spark their concern. Gecktar follows the lead of the others.
The path is narrow and twisting, winding its way between pockets of open water and the buttressed trunks of the larger trees. The chill of winter meets with warmer water oozing from some unknown source creating a low lying mist which gives the whole place an eerie appearance. A damp cold creeps through warm woollens and chills the bones. (Toros and Ban Maeve Fort vs DC 16 or take 1d6 subdual dmg)
After 1 hour of picking their way through the swamp, the party comes to a fork in the path, one way heads due east, the second southeast. From where they stand there is little to choose between, although the second path must surely cross the stream that has paralleled their path so far. Brahmah recognizes this place as the junction of the two paths on Grynntym's map. They had earlier decided to follow the path running due east.
Toros d20+14=23 Monday January 9th, 2006 5:42:36 AM

Ban Maeve d20+8=22 d20+13=18 Monday January 9th, 2006 6:04:16 PM
The cold mist clings to the wemic's fur but with a shake Ban Maeve sends the droplets flying. The makeshift coat provides additional warmth. (Fort check=22) With one paw resting on his falchion, he keeps a lookout for danger. (Spot=18)
Ban Maeve licks his lips when he spots the small grey birds, but soon returns to the task at hand. "Have you ever travelt this way before, frients?" he calls ahead to their guides. "Are there tangers we shoult know about?"
DM Bob & Carla Monday January 9th, 2006 11:25:14 PM
The trail widens and the satyrs come to a stop. The path disappears under a thin film of water, about 60 feet across, and then emerges from the shallow pool to continue again, meandering through the marshy area all around. The water seems to have come from the creek to the party's left and spreads across the path and into a wet bog to the right of the path.
While Thalpius looks out across the pool of water, Thadius rejoins the group. "I don't think we've been down this particular trail, if that is what you are asking," he says addressing Ban Maeve. "The Culverwood is a mysterious place, and the Wyrmsfut particularly dangerous." Shrugging his shoulders, the satyr continues, "everything is unpredictable since the Fey King woke up."
"Makes things exciting!" enjoins Thalpius with a mischievous grin.
Zeoll Tuesday January 10th, 2006 5:49:27 AM
The liontaur shudders at the idea of getting all wet.
Zeoll casts Speak with Animals and an Extended Summon Nature's Ally I (either octopus or porpoise, whichever he thinks would be better able to carry out his orders). He asks his summoned aquatic friend to check out the pool and report back what it sees before the spell expires. Especially, are there any predators? He tells his friend to come back here if attacked. (Duration: 6 rounds)
Stuff used today: two first level druid spells. 1 use of metamagic rod of extend.
Flat-top Tuesday January 10th, 2006 8:30:56 AM
Flat-top ask "How deep can it be? It's just a stream!"
Brahmah Tuesday January 10th, 2006 8:53:49 AM
Scowling at the satyrs, the leader of the Chosen continues on.
Gecktar Tuesday January 10th, 2006 3:24:48 PM "If we go wet, we are sure to get cold. Any body have an idea to cross the stream ? I've none personally..."
Ban Maeve d20+13=30 Tuesday January 10th, 2006 6:33:17 PM
Seeing that it is a shallow pool and that Brahmah continues through, Ban Maeve makes to follow suit. "See," he says hopefully, "the other site is not far."
He lifts his tail high and hikes up the blanket-coat so as not to get it wet. He looks from side to side, hoping there are no dangers. (Spot=30)
Toros Tuesday January 10th, 2006 9:33:02 PM

DM Bob & Carla (Swamp Striders Rnd. 1) d20+25=44 d20+25=34 d20+25=26 2d6(4+2)=6 2d6(2+1)=3 2d6(2+3)=5 Tuesday January 10th, 2006 11:47:32 PM
The two satyrs pause at the water's edge, looking for an easy way across. Before they have finished their search, Zeoll summons a small grayish-pink octopus which appears in the shallows near his feet. The hapless creature quickly convulses, sending a thick stream of dark ink into the shallow pool. Irregular flushes of color pulse beneath its translucent skin as it tries vainly to adjust to the fresh water, before finally lapsing into unconsciousness.
Flat-Top, Gecktar and Toros watch as Brahmah and Ban Maeve strike out for the other side of the small flood. The water isn't much higher than their shanks, nor is it as cold as one would think. Perhaps there is a thermal source? The bottom is soft and pulls gently at their hooves and paws slowing their progress. [Movement is reduced by half]
Approach the midpoint, the wemic catches sight of a small flotilla of dull black beetle-shaped insects. They swarm out across from the emergent vegetation at the edges of the pool, towards the Chosen of Domi. The creatures move at an amazing speed, literally skating across the surface of the water towards the two taurs. A weak 'chittering' sound accompanies their approach as they flex their hard chitinous bodies.
Flat-top, Gecktar, and Toros look on as the swarm of beetles engulfs Bramah and Ban Maeve, stinging the taurs repeatedly as they race up and across their bodies. They seem to be everywhere, beneath their cloaks and armor, on their legs and arms, on their backs and chests. Alone, a single bite would matter little, but with so many insects, the two taurs are soon dancing in pain as they suffer dozens of stings. Blood begins dripping down their legs and into the stagnant water. [Bramah takes 9 HP of damage and Ban Maeve 5 HP. Both must make a Fort save vs DC 14 or be nauseated for 1 round]
Brahmah's entomophobia comes back in full force. He begins brushing furiously at the insects, then runs for the other bank as fast as his legs and the water will allow him to go.
He activates his Boots of Haste. (Balance check 4) The taur is distracted by the bugs and slips on a slimey stone. Splash!! Sploosh!! (Swim 25)
Flat-top (AC 22 96/96 HP) Wednesday January 11th, 2006 5:55:57 PM
Flat-top seeing tha the Captain snd Ban are in trouble, "What are those thingd, Beetles?? Fast little sucker. I wonder what would happen if we churn the water? Well! Why Talk about it, I'm going to try my little idea!"
Flat-top gallops into the water, Churning the water as he runs. When he's near Ben, Flat-top yells to Ben, "Make the water as wavy as you can to slow them down and make for shore!"
Zeoll d20+13=33 Wednesday January 11th, 2006 9:06:42 PM
Well, now Zeoll realizes that this water is not just full of bugs, but it is poisoned, too! Poor octopus!
He wonders if the bugs all act in unison, like a hive mind, or swarm. If so, he thinks, maybe the vibrations of his music can entrance the swarm long enough for everyone else to cross safely. And maybe even himself, if he goes slow.
He uses his Bardic Music on the swarm (it's within 90 feet). He does not know if it will work, but why not try? he takes out his drum and beats and sings a rhythmic melody designed to lull the swarm.
Perform check 33 is a nat 20! That's also the save DC for the Fascinate power.
Toros Wednesday January 11th, 2006 9:41:26 PM
Shocked to see Brahmah and Ban are under attack Toros prays for them to make it safely outside of water. Then, he becomes more surprised, as Flat-top also enters the water. What does this Centaur intend to do?
Ban Maeve (AC 19, 38 /43 HP) d20+6=21 Wednesday January 11th, 2006 10:43:40 PM
Ban Maeve points out the swarm as they approach, but the insects are too fast. Before he can call out a warning, they are upon him. The wemic feels like wretching as the disgusting creatures crawl over him, but he resists. (Fort=21)
With blood oozing from the many bites, he fumbles for his scroll case as he tries to make his way across the water to the path. (Movement 20 ft.)
DM Bob & Carla (Swamp Striders Rnd. 2) 2d6(3+3)=6 2d6(5+6)=11 2d6(6+5)=11 Wednesday January 11th, 2006 11:38:19 PM "Swamp Striders!!" Thalpius yells out to the Chosen of Domi, "Get out of the water!" Thadius spins around just in time to see Flat-top charge in after Ban Maeve and Brahmah."Nooooo" the satyr calls out but knows that it is too late.
The leader of the Chosen panics as the striders sting him repeatedly and he slips and falls into the stagnant water. He does manage to brush a few of the vermin off, but they quickly find Flat-top and immediately swarm the centaur, biting and stinging him all over his body. Flat-top's blood is soon dripping into the water where it mingles with that of Brahmah and BanMaeve. The wemic manages to plunge his way through the swampy conditions and gets within 20' of the far shore, all the while being stung by the vermin that cling to him.
Zeoll breaks into song, hoping to somehow distract the teeming swamp striders from their feeding frenzy, but the mindless creatures are unaffected by his rhythmic drumming and continue to feast on his companions and the billowing clouds of blood that now color the water. Gecktar appears stunned by the sudden turn of events and watches slack-jawed as the swamp striders engulf his companions. Toros issues a short prayer for the reckless centaur.
[Brahmah takes another 6 points of damage from the swarm and an additional 1 point of damage from a continuing loss of blood. Ban Maeve takes 11 points of damage plus an additional 1 point for blood loss. Flat-top takes 11 points of damage and must make a fort save vs DC 14 or be nauseated for one round]
Toros Wednesday January 11th, 2006 11:59:35 PM
Staying out of the water, Toros prepares a rope to throw to his friends, in case they may need to be pulled out of the water.
Gecktar Thursday January 12th, 2006 5:07:06 AM
Unable to help his friend, Gecktar search for some dry wood just around him. Seeing nothing available he says "Toros, Zeoll, give me one torch if you have"
Getting a torch he begin to light it. If the warms of the fire attracks the swarm he will get it away, if not he could be able to fight with the torch.
Brahmah (hps 77/93) Thursday January 12th, 2006 7:24:22 AM
The minotaur begins to curse. "Someone fireball us!! Alcohol, pour it on us. It repels bugs. Fire!" He continues to brush furiously. He moves as fast as possible to the other side. Brahmah sure wishes he still had his Wings of Flying.

(Concentration=28) Pointing his finger at his feet he directs the fireball hoping the spell's radius will include Brahmah ahead of him and Flat-Top who has followed after him and the swarm of bugs tormenting them.
"Tomi help us!" he cries as he watches the pea-sized bead blossom into a ball of fire. (13 pts. dmg)
Zeoll Thursday January 12th, 2006 9:18:22 PM
OOC: Is there just one swarm, or more than one?
Zeoll has an idea to get the people across who are on his side: He can summon an aligator, and wade across witht he aligator in the lead. When the bugs attack the aligator, the rest of us run past.
He has no way to make a fire. Didn't take those spells today.
Does the liontaur think his plan might work? If so, he'll give it a shot. If he thinks he needs a longer duration summons, he'll extend it.
Toros - illegal second post Thursday January 12th, 2006 9:49:29 PM
Realizing his friends have a better idea, Toros spends no more time with the rope and helps to light a fire. He provides whatever he has to light fire: a torch and oil, as well as the magic of prestidigitation to make a fire...
DM Bob & Carla (Swamp Striders Rnd. 3) d3=2 Friday January 13th, 2006 12:22:31 AM
Confusion reigns in this small corner of the Wyrmsfut. Ban Maeve, Brahmah and Flat-top continue to be feasted upon by the teeming striders. Zeoll, Toros, and Gecktar can distinguish three distinct swarms although at times they seem to merge into one and then re-emerge as separate entities. Brahmah calls out in desperation for one of The Chosen to cast a fireball and Flat-top manages to splash most of his wineskin on himself and Ban Maeve in hope that it will act as an accelerant. Gecktar and Toros try to light torches to aid their companions... The idea is sound, or is it?
Ban Maeve extracts a scroll and casts a spell from it despite the irritation and near nausea that threaten to overwhelm him. He calls upon his god for guidance. A small bead of fire instantly spreads, feeding on the oxygen and the methane that seeps up from the swamp itself. The air rushes in to feed the hungry flames and a then rushes out as the fireball blossoms outward in a loud Thwuump!
Those with any arcane experience recognize that the blast far exceeded what might normally result from such a spell. The blast of heat sweeps over Brahmah, Flat-top, and Ban Maeve [Each take 26 points of damage, Reflex save vs DC=16 to take half damage, except for Ban Maeve who takes full damage -- can't possibly dodge a fireball dropped at his own feet.] The blast itself strips the striders from their prey. Many are killed outright, their bodies sizzle and hiss as they boil inside their hard outer shells. The brave wemic takes a single step forward and then collapses into the water, bleeding from his many wounds. Brahmah and Flat-top also continue to bleed despite the removal of the striders [Each take an additional 1 HP damage]
The blast continues to expand outwards sending partly cooked striders, swamp debris, and other detritus with it. The three taurs still on the shore can feel the wave of heat pass over them, but are unharmed by it.
The surviving swamp striders, scattered by the blast, immediately begin to reform into a single massive swarm. Zeoll believes that it will take only seconds [2 rounds] for the vermin to re-organize themselves, if that is what is required for them to attack. The druid summons an alligator to act as a decoy while the rest run for it.
Thadius and Thalpius take the opportunity to race out into the water. "Hurry!" they yell back to the taurs.
Brahmah (hps 50/93) d20+10=12 Friday January 13th, 2006 9:26:27 AM
(third round of movement with Boots of Speed)
(reflex 12, failed, 26 damage +1 from bleeding)
Brahmah continues to move quickly, turning to see Ban Maeve fall... Geez! He thinks, turning to pick him up, brushing the carcuses from him and the fallen taur. "I wasn't serious about the fireball. Sigh."
Flat-top (AC 22 85/96 HP) d20+4=22 Friday January 13th, 2006 6:09:34 PM
As the fire hits Flat-top, he reaches for Brahmah and Bam. To his suprise the Captain is not there, But Bam is about to Fall. Flat-top grabs Ban and drag the Lointaur toward the other side of the stream.

Toros Friday January 13th, 2006 11:44:31 PM
Toros rushes into the water to help Flat-top carry Ban out of the water.
Zeoll Friday January 13th, 2006 11:59:31 PM
The liontaur directs his scapegoat -- scapecroc? -- towards the bugs and high-tails it out out of the water. He literally keeps his tail high ... he hates to get it wet.
On his way out, he helps pull at anyone who needs help.
Ban Maeve (AC 19, -1/43 HP) Saturday January 14th, 2006 9:44:44 AM "Courage!" cries Ban Baeve as he is engulfed by the flames. Bugs fall off in the searing heat of the fireball, but the taur's tawny fur is not immune to the flames.
"Courage!" he roars as he contorts in pain and then all is dark as the wemic lapses into unconscious.
DM Bob & Carla (Swamp Striders Rnd. 4) Monday January 16th, 2006 12:06:43 AM
The Chosen react in unison to the sight of their comrade lying face down in the muck. Brahmah turns back to the fallen wemic and hoists him up wuth the assistance of Flat-top who is looking decidedly singed [OOC Flat-top took 26 HP damage from the fireball and should be at 59/96 HP].
Toros and Gecktar rush in to the swamp to provide assistance and get as far as the three taurs already in the water.
Zeoll sends the scape-croc out into the swamp to draw away the swamp striders that have begun to reform. The ruse seems to be working for the striders teem over the crocodile, but after a brief hestitation they turn their attention to the taurs, and in particular to the high prancing wemic that was last to enter the water. Perhaps they prefer warm-blooded creatures?
The two satyrs urge their followers on, "Hurry! get to the other side before they reach you!" Thalpius who has already reached the other side stops to pick up a handful of strider carcasses. "Not now, Thalpius, this is no time to be thinking of your stomach!" Thadius cries out in exasperation.
Situation. All the taurs with the exception of Zeoll are within 20 feet of the far shore where Thadius and Thalpius await them. Zeoll is 40 feet from the far shore, having been delayed by directing the scape-croc, and his generally dainty approach to crossing the flooded area. The reforming swarm of striders is a further 20 feet behind Zeoll and moving in the wemic's direction.
Gecktar Monday January 16th, 2006 5:12:47 AM
Gecktar rushes to the other side of the river. "I take Ban away from here, I will check him as soon as possible ! I have nothing to help Zeoll but this torch. Anybody has some oil ?" he says to the other.
He will hand the torch to anyone willing it and take awy Ban so he is no more threathened by the swarm.

Toros Monday January 16th, 2006 9:22:44 PM
Having learned an important lesson from the previous fire-ball Toros spreads the oil to provide a line of safe passage for the Taurs still in the water: Zeoll, Flat-top and himself. The line of oil starts from where he originally stands and goes as far as Toros has been able to walk closer to a place between where the others are and the swamp striders. Then he uses the oil to start a fire with the torch Gecktar has had / hand in, preparing a safe distance from the fire. Hopefully the wall of fire will stand between the striders and the Taurs, at least to give enough time to come closer to the shore.

DM Bob & Carla (Swamp Striders Rnd. 5) d6=2 Tuesday January 17th, 2006 12:00:04 AM Gecktar goes to aid a bleeding Flat Top and Brahmah as they pull their fallen comrade to shore. As he passes Toros, Gecktar thrusts his torch at the liontaur. Depositing the unconscious Ban Maeve on the path, Flat Top turns to see Zeoll has progressed well past the half-way mark, the croc preceding him. The centaur notices the swarm of diminutive vermin skitter across the water, their long suckers consuming the blood that has leaked into it.
Toros waits for his friend to pass, and then spills oil into the water. The oil spreads out from the line he draws. As Zeoll gains the shore, Toros touches the torch to the oil sending up a wall of flame.
Toros: Reflex Save vs DC 15 to avoid catching fire to clothes and fur, or take 2 pts. fire dmg. You are at the very edge of the water.

Leaning on his friends, Ban Maeve will limp down the path following the leader of the party.
DM Bob & Carla Wednesday January 18th, 2006 12:24:21 AM Toros leaps back from the flames that spread across the pool forming a fiery barrier between the remains of the swarm and the party. Gecktar uses his gift to tend to the most seriously wounded of the party. Ban Maeve responds by regaining consciousness. Flat-Top and Zeoll lead their companion away from the water's edge as Brahmah moves further down the path.
Thadius pulls Thalpius away from the collection of the charred bug bodies. "Roasted, these are a fine delicacy!" cries the satyr as he follows reluctantly after the Chosen of Domi. Patting the pouch slung over his shoulder he adds, "we will feast tonight!" Anyone who looks back at the pool will see that the swamp striders do not follow the group, but skitter across the pool consuming the last taur blood staining it.
Life blood continues to ooze from the many bites covering Flat-Top and Brahmah.
Flat-Top and Brahmah each take 1 pt dmg. due to continued bleeding from wounds inflicted by the swarm.

Toros d8+2=7 Wednesday January 18th, 2006 11:50:22 PM
Toros also use some of his healing energy for making Ban better, recovering 7 hps.
DM Bob & Carla Thursday January 19th, 2006 8:15:20 AM
Safely away from the swamp and it's tiny inhabitants, the party re-groups and finds higher ground. Toros, Zeoll, and Gecktar assist the others in staunching their wounds and stopping the steady drip of blood.
Thadius and Thalpius spend a few minutes scouting the way forward. "The way is clear for at least the short distance I have seen" reports Thadius to the group. Thalpius examines each of the Chosen and is delighted to see that all are on the mend. "That was a very brave thing you did" he comments to Ban Maeve, "but why did you not just run? Once out of the water they would have dropped off."
Thadius replies to Zeoll, "We do not often come to this part of the Culverwood. It is a cruel and wicked swamp, unkind even to the Fae. We still have several hours before we can leave this place behind, perhaps we should make haste before darkness falls..."
Crunch! Thalpius bites down hard on another strider. A small stream of juice dribbles down his chin and winds it's way into the satyr's matted fur. "Anybody want one?" he mumbles, his mouth full of beetle.
Flat-top (AC 22 85/96 HP) Thursday January 19th, 2006 9:17:47 AM
Flat-top is following Thadius and the Capten, While listening to the stupid reason as what to do when bitten by these striders. He tell Ban, "you know I think we should cut the barrels of blue wine, They almost killed us! They could not shout to US, Because those things are Good To Eat!! Come on Guy let find a place to camp." Grumbles Flat-top.
Brahmah Thursday January 19th, 2006 12:19:34 PM
Brahmah turns green at the mention of eating bugs and continues to move along, quickly.
Gecktar 2d8(5+3)+5=13 Thursday January 19th, 2006 12:22:08 PM
Once more Gecktar comes close to Ban and lays his hands on him. "Are you fine, my friend ?" then looking at Thalpius, he approches the Faun and says "let me try this, are you sure they aren't poisonous ?"
He takes a piece of a strider and bites in it..... ?
Toros Thursday January 19th, 2006 9:08:15 PM
Toros also gives a try to the strider food, but would he like it? Hmmm, although it should be a bit cold now and does not look sooo nice, the taste would not be so bad... and it is good to eat them as a revenge, although thinking that they could still have the taur blood in them does not give a good feeling...
Zeoll Thursday January 19th, 2006 11:39:40 PM
The liontaur will try the bug. "I've eaten worrse in my day," he says.
"But let us not dally. As you say, haste beforre darrk falls."
DM Bob & Carla Thursday January 19th, 2006 11:48:59 PM
Thalpius shares his baked swamp striders with Gectar, Zeoll and Toros, and turns to lead the group along the path when Flat-top suggests withholding payment of the promised wine.
"What is this? Thalpius blurts out in response to Flat-tops threat. You rush into the water without as much as a look and don't have the sense to run out, and now you want to keep our wine! Why that's...that's..."
"That's unfair!" Thadius chimes in. "We warned you right away, as soon as we saw the strider swarm."
The two satyrs are clearly upset that the taurs are about to renage on their deal. Thalpius continues to sputter and prance about in an agitated fashion, strider juice spattering those around him as he struggles to keep his half-chewed snack from spewing out.
Zeoll d20+20=31 Friday January 20th, 2006 12:53:45 AM
Zeoll tries to smooth things over. "Fearr not, good fauns. We arre Taurrs of ourr worrd. We will keep ourr end of the barrgain!"
"Come, be rreassurred. And let us continue on beforre it gets darrk."

Gecktar Friday January 20th, 2006 3:12:34 AM
Gecktar appreciates the diplomatic art of Zeoll and significates it to him by landing a hand on his shoulder and smiling to him. They need their guide to have a chance to reach the object of their quest. "Recall me to heal all of you before we sleep." he says as they should be well prepared for their next encounter... 'Just pray that it will not come during the night' he thibnks to himself
Brahmah (hps 53/93) Friday January 20th, 2006 11:42:20 AM
Brahmah stays silent during the short argument and just shakes his head in disgust. Then he decides to make his voice heard before things get out of hand. "Come on. Lets keep moving."
He turns to Gecktar. "Would you be so kind as to heal the injured please?"
Flat-top (AC 22 85/96 HP) Friday January 20th, 2006 11:57:25 AM
Flat-top Listens to Zeoll as he trys to mend fences. But Centaors being Centaors, replies to the Two Satyrs, "Oh! Yes! You did warn us, AFTER THREE OF US TAURS WAS COVERED WITH YOUR SNACK FOOD! I was too busy saving my friends! I will keep Zeoll's word about the wine." Retort Flat-top, "And I Still think It was a sneeky trick!."
To Gertar, he tells him. "Don't worry about me, I'll heal over night. But the Captain and Ban here are worst off."
Flat-top trots off with Ben, they head off to make a camp before the nightfall.
Toros d8+2=10 Friday January 20th, 2006 11:52:30 PM
As much as he could with his spontenous capabilities, Toros tends the wound of Brahmah, hoping he will feel a bit better (heals 10 hp), although the liontaur feels helpless for the anger of Flat-top.
DM Bob & Carla Monday January 23rd, 2006 12:20:26 AM
Zeoll manages to calm the two satyrs and they lead the party forward and away from the Wyrmsfut. Gecktar and Toros provide healing to their comrades.
As the sun begins it's descent below the horizon, it's light is replaced by the dim glow of many campfires spread out across a small glade. There are perhaps 11 or 12 small encampments, each a cluster of tents or a small wagon with a campfire. A few of the campfires have only a few bedrolls arranged around them.
Elves, taurs, dwarves, and humans wander about, preparing meals, fetching water from a nearby stream, and otherwise attending their campsites. Some of the groups are more sociable than others who keep to themselves.
There seems to be a small opening in the northwest corner of the glade where an extra campfire would not interfere with any of those already established.
Thadius and Thalpius lead the group towards the opening. "There you are", Thadius sweeps his arm across the horizon. "I told you we'd lead you to the cave." Through the trees at the edge of the glade you can just make out the dark shadow of the cave opening. "Looks like it's going to be quite an event".

During the trip Gecktar uses his power to heal Ban and Brahmah.
As they prepare to set up the camp he says : "Allright maybe taking a rest so as to recover from the journey will be fine. I will take the first watch if it is fine for everyone." and he add more closely to his friends so as to not be heard.. "I was thinking about something. If the creature is selling every thing to leave the woods, maybe it will carry off the map we need for our quest... Maybe we will just have to buy it and nothing more..."
Gecktar spontaneously cast 1 CSW and 2 CLW on Brahmah healing back 38 hp and cast 2 CMW on Ban healing 28hp Please ask him if more needed.

Toros d20+9=26 d20+5=17 Monday January 23rd, 2006 6:14:31 AM
Having helped Gecktar to cure the wounded Chosen, Toros goes to bed early and gets up early. Replenishing his divine energy for the day with enough meditation he takes one of the last watches (spot 26, listen 17).
? Monday January 23rd, 2006 9:13:22 AM
Soon after the party makes camp a shadow detaches itself from one of the other groups. A tall and slender figure approaches slowly the campsite of the Chosen. The gentle patter of hooves on the grass and its height identifies it immediately as a centaur. He stops some twenty feet away from the group and removes the hood of his well-worn travel cloak. His mane is white as if dusted with ash, and his eyes are dark and deep, gleaming with reflected light of the nearby campfires.
There is a moment of silence, and then the stranger starts to count something off on his fingers.
"Hornhead, hornhead, furball, kin, yet another furball... Two are missing, it would seem? Firekindler's Gift was this quest..."
Louder, he says:
"I seek those who hail from under different skies, but all follow the Smith and the Brawler. It is my duty to speak to their chief."
Brahmah (hps 93/93) Monday January 23rd, 2006 10:43:43 AM
Brahmah feels great. "Thank you friends for the healing."
"Arrange the watches Zeoll. I'll see to the stranger." He situates the badge on his armor that the satyrs had given him and moves forward.
"I'm Brahmah, Captain of the Chosen of Domi."
"I like Alemi as well." He adds, smiling. "Which gift would you like? We have several things."
Ban Maeve d20+7=19 d20+2=21 Monday January 23rd, 2006 7:28:18 PM
Quite recovered after the prompt first aid provided by his friends, and happy that they seem to have arrived at their destination, the golden wemic tries to grab Flat-Top in a headlock (Touch Attack vs AC 19). Missing his grab, Ban Maeve settles for ruffling up the centaur's mane.
"First or last watch for me" he volunteers as he sets to work making camp. When the stranger approaches Brahmah, Ban Maeve stops what he is doing and moves in to flank the leader of the "Chosen of Domi." His lips spread to show the newcomer his pointed yellow teeth (Intimidate=21) as the captain speaks his greeting.
Zeoll d20+11=26 Monday January 23rd, 2006 9:57:04 PM
Zeoll nods and counts on his fingers, perhaps echoing the stranger's words. "Ban and I will take firrst watch. Flat-top and Brrahmah, the second. Gecktarr and Torros, the thirrd. Okay with everrybody?"
Zeoll is very curious about the stranger, but leaves him to Brahmah for now.
Zeoll is also itching to go down to the camp and see what news he can hear. He asks the fauns if it is safe. If they thiink it is, and if no one objects, Zeoll and the fauns will poke around, talking with strangers, looking for gossip, news, and such.
[OOC: Gather Info check 26 to find out anything in general and stuff about the auction in particular.]
DM Bob & Carla Tuesday January 24th, 2006 8:13:35 AM
Ban Maeve engages Flat-top in some 'horse play' before settling in beside Brahmah who opens the conversation with the stranger. Zeoll arranges the watches and then accompanies Thalpius in a stroll around the glade. They encounter some familiar faces from Pullman's Crossing, the dwarves, a group of witches, and a rather surly looking trio of humans.
Not all the campfires are welcoming. At least one or two greet them with a "shove off" However, they do discover that the first viewing will be at sunrise and the auction will be held shortly thereafter. The beholder who is running the auction is called Flyth and he has hired a small troupe of ogres as guards. They are noted to be particularly effective at their work.
The sky grows darker and one by one, the campfires dwindle as those that tend them retire for the night.
Brahmah Tuesday January 24th, 2006 9:23:28 AM
"Which gift do you require?" He repeats. "I'd like to be sure its something you need." He smiles.
Zeoll is much more knowledgable about the diplomacy thing, why did he send him to do watch shifts. Sigh.
Flat-top Tuesday January 24th, 2006 9:58:08 AM
"Hold It! for a minute Ban," Flat-top points to the new Centaur on the sceen. "We have a visitaur here. Let's go see who he is??"
Flat-top advances to the new Centaur, he stand there in all his 8'6", he is a piebald, dark skin with white hair, main and tail. flat-top look every inch a fighter. he gazes the atranger with ice-blus eyes.
Now he moves next to Brahmah, just in case the Captain need him. Hi! There stranger, I'm called Flat-top!" Flat-top extends his hand, if the stranger shakes his hand (He'll know if this stranger is a fighter,or if he's a magic user??).
Winterglade Tuesday January 24th, 2006 3:16:36 PM
The stranger approaches the group, his legs moving with natural grace as if he was dancing to some unheard music. From close up his face reveals him as a youngish fellow, whose brow must have been exposed to sun and wind for quite a while. His mane is as white as milk, without a single speck of other color. The folds of his cloak part for a moment and reveal links of a silvery armor on his chest. A very large shield is strapped to his back, yet no weapon other than an unremarkable dagger hangs at his side.
Flat-Top is much taller than the centaur and as the two shake hands he finds himself looking down at stranger's face. There is no remarkable strength in his grip - his hand is all bones and sinews, as if it has been mummified.
"Brahmah, the Captain. Chosen. It is I, Winterglade, son of Strawmane the Cursed, grandson of Sanddancer New Moon, child of the Windwalker Tribe, who greets you. You and yours are Sevenstars' Quarry. I have travelled long to find you. Seven follow you, I was told, and yet I see only five?"
"No gifts I desire. One you shall receive from me, should your identity be proven true in the eyes of the Brawler. My purpose with you is twofold, but first I would ask for your words to be judged by the Wielder of the Hammer."
The centaur's hand disappears in the folds of his cloak and emerges with a small silver medallion crafted to resemble a tiny shield.
"Are you really Brahmah, Captain of the Chosen? Will you let the power of the Brawler pass over you as you answer?"
Then the stranger notices Ban-Maeve's grin, looks him briefly up and down, stopping for a moment to admire his yellow teeth, and then turns back to Brahmah. "Look not, but a heap of grinning halitosis stands like a shadow behind your shoulder. Do strangers always excite it so? May I be so bold as to advise: fixing it might do wonders to its temper."
Ban Maeve d20+13=18 Tuesday January 24th, 2006 8:54:03 PM
The grin freezes on the broad shouldered liontaur's face. The wemic's large golden eyes narrow as he fixes the newcomer and the red-gold of his tawny mane bristles at the insults cast his way. The light of nearby camp fires glow on the highly polished leather armor tooled with various protective symbols and clan markings.
"Captain!" growls Ban Maeve, "surely this one speaks of Tomi, ant yet he tries to traw us into conflict with taunting worts and talk of tests!" Ban Maeve moves forward until he is even with Brahmah, his tail twitching with nervous excitement. "Coult he be in liege with our enemy?" The wemic does not address the centaur directly, but rather defers to the leader of the Chosen as he continues his study of the newcomer. (Spot=18, to notice any recognizable symbols on his gear or tatoos on the centaur's body.)
Zeoll Tuesday January 24th, 2006 11:17:58 PM
The liontaur is surprised to hear about this. Aren't ogres and beholders supposed to be villains? He listens for any stories of cruelty or unfairness.
back at camp, he raises an ugly question with his friends -- if there's an auction, we need some cash, or magic items, to pay for it! Anyone got extra?
Zeoll also waits for Brahmah to finish welcoming the newcomer ... or proving himself, as the case may be. The druid/bard is looking forward to greeting this person, who (Zeoll intuits) is clearly a new Chosen.
DM Bob & Carla Tuesday January 24th, 2006 11:45:40 PM
With Flat-top and Ban Maeve as reinforcement, Brahmah asks Winterglade to explain himself. The stranger lists his pedigree and proceeds to pledge a boon should the captain of the Chosen of Domi prove worthy. Meanwhile the young centaur, Winterglade, and wemic, Ban Maeve, face off.
Toros and Gecktar are quiet as they take in the unfolding drama. Working together the taurs finish setting up camp. The minotaur wonders if the party will be able to afford the item they seek.
Zeoll circles the glade eventually returning to the northwest corner with Thadius and Thalpius as the night sky spreads its blanket of darkest blue-black. The same question that plagues Gecktar, on his mind.
Welcome to our newest player, Marcin!
Toros Wednesday January 25th, 2006 12:02:02 AM
It seems that having exhausted the whole day, Toros is already sleeping in a corner, and missing all the fun, if he is not waken up.
Gecktar Wednesday January 25th, 2006 4:27:45 AM
The face of the newcomer seems familiar to Gecktar, as if he has already seen him. He realizes that this should be another Chosen, Domi send them to help them for the upcoming test. "Welcome stranger, I am Gecktar Cadeqa, servant of Domi as you can see" he says while showing the holy symbol on his chest. "May I offer you a place around our little campfire so as you tell us what bring you to us."
Then he whispers to Ban "Calm friend, forgive his harsh words, don't let this misunderstanding spoil your first meeting. Do you want something to drink ?" he says while gently taking Ban by the shoulder and bringing him near the campfire. "Maybe hot wine, if you promise me to not abuse it." he says with a smile.
Flat-top (AC 22 96/96 HP) Wednesday January 25th, 2006 7:39:48 AM
Flat-top put's his body between his friend Ban and the nwe commer Winterglade, "Hold it! Friend Ban listen to Friend Gertar! Remember, once a long time ago we were All Enermies. Now Domi showed us that we are all Brothers."
Now Flat-top turns to Young Center, "As for you, my young Colt. You have a lot to learn, Domi has made your path to us for a reason! That is to learn what his wishes are, That is to unite All The Taurs! Now come and sit by the fire and start learning. Now go with Captain Brahmah, he's our leader."
Now as the young Center leaves with the Captain, Flat-top turn to his friends (Gertat and Ban)"Did you say something about Hot Wine?".
Winterglade Wednesday January 25th, 2006 8:42:25 AM
No visible tatoos adorn the centaur's body. His gear is bereft of markings or symbols of allegiance - aside from his silver amulet resembling a shield.

The centaur rolls his eyes. "Char's Temper! You tried to threaten me with your teeth, furball. On the Plain a brawlstarter it is. If you do not desire to get wet do not relieve yourself against the wind."
"I clarify. A letter I carry, entrusted to my care by a cleric of the Smith. To Brahmah, Captain of the Chosen it is addressed, and none but the Chosen may read it. Such is the first part of my task."
"This Brahmah I know not, but a short cant, a simple prayer can reveal the hearts of those willing to submit to its power. The Brother of Brawler among your ranks" - Winterglade nods to Gecktar -"will know it."
The centaur holds out his shield and invokes a few melodic words. A gentle wave of warmth passes briefly over those nearby him, leaving behind faint tinkling sensation.

"That's a mighty impressive title friend." He smiles. ""
"I am Brahmah, I am the Captain of the Chosen and I don't take kindly to folks who challenge my Honor or my friend's Honor. I speak truth when I choose to who I choose." His smile fades quickly. "You question my Honor again, I will kill you, messenger or not."
"You need no spell to know I'm speaking truth."
"Now, if that note is for us, I will have it now. If you refuse to willingly hand it over, we'll take it... after." There is a solemn but impatient tone to his voice, like perhaps he's done this sort of thing before.
Zeoll d20+1=14 d20+9=22 Wednesday January 25th, 2006 8:14:07 PM
Zeoll looks at the newcomer's amulet (untrained knowledge check 14) and is glad to recognize it. But all that is not as important as the alarm the liontaur begins to feel at the growing confrontation.
He steps in before it goes too far.
"By yourr amulet I see the sign you follow, newcome Taurr -- that of the brrave lorrd who made ourr rrace in ages past. Yourr magical prroofs are mysterrious to me, but they matterr not [though Zeoll does not try to save against them]. I need no morre convincing."

"Come on, frriends! Put yourr prride aside forr a moment! If we cannot give a fellow Taurr the benefit of the doubt, how can we everr hope to brring peace to ourr people!"
"Look at his shield -- it is the sign of Tomi. Listen to his words -- he claims Imod as his lorrd. If his worrds and signs arre confusing, then sense what is in yourr hearrt."
"Come, Chosen of Domi! grreet this Taurr as brrotherr!"
Zeoll walks close to the centaur, stepping between him and the other Taurs. He offers the centaur the hilt of his greatsword, on which Zeoll places his hand.
"By this sworrd, blessed by Domi, who touched this weapon herre and herre with his own hand in the flesh, I place my hand on the same place in orrderr to speak these worrds:
I am Zeoll, Student to Shaman Frrith, Warrriorr to Prride Nonowla, Son to Clan Aene, and Chosen of Domi. Herre with me stand otherrs faithful and devoted to the same sacrred serrvice: Flat-top, Gecktarr, Torros, Ban, and Captain Brrahmah the faithful. If my hearrt serrves me trrue, then Tomi himself sent you to us, and so you arre most welcome!
Zeoll looks at his brother Chosen with a look that says: Welcome him or else!
By the way, Zeoll is a medium-large liontaur dressed in the fashion of those who live in the center of Liontaur Isle, that is, in leathers and homespun, not in the silks of the great liontaur merchant clans. He wears leather armor and a beautiful cloak that looks like it is half-way embroidered with a stunning pattern. His greatsword he usually carries on his back, and at his side, he carries a rod in a sheath. A drum hangs on a strap to one side. A traditional totem bag hangs around his neck, and by this and by the beads and feathers woven in his mane one might tell his clan as well as his professions -- both bard and druid.
Ban Maeve Wednesday January 25th, 2006 9:24:08 PM
Unmoving, his eyes on the newcomer as he uses his magic on the Chosen, Ban Maeve says nothing. He says nothing, but his ears are open to the counsel and chastisement of his friends.
Others step between him and the centaur, and he takes his hand off his weapon. His shoulders slump and his posture sags. It had been a hard day. He had nearly died. Ban Maeve licks a paw, and unconsciously starts to rub at a bit of matted fur behind one ear, the fierceness gone from his countenance.
Let Brahmah, our leater, tiscern the facts of the matter, he thinks, I wonter what news the letter holts?. The liontaur will retreat towards the camp, add a log to the fire, and wait for the promised wine.
DM Bob & Carla Thursday January 26th, 2006 12:05:03 AM
Tensions are diffused somewhat when Gecktar and Flat-Top step in to intercede. Wise words are spoken by the minotaur with the tanned skin and liquid brown eyes. The pie-bald centaur redirects Ban Maeve's energies repeating words oft spoke, that all taurs are brothers at heart. The eyes of the satyrs' Thadius and Thalpius brighten at the mention of 'wine'.
Brahmah, growing impatient, identifies himself to the messenger. Zeoll, wishing to avert a crisis employs diplomacy and confirms to the young centaur named Winterglade that he has, indeed, located the adventuring group known as The Chosen of Domi, naming each of his companions to the newcomer.
Winterglade confirms for himself that the group are those he seeks, although their somewhat scruffy appearance doesn't quite live up to the mythology that is developing around their name. But then, how long has it been since they have been gone from their beloved keep on Bridge Island!
The messenger holds the letter entrusted to him. It is addressed to the captain of the Imod's Own and is signed by one named Markab. The name is recognizable as that of a young centaur cleric who had sought asylum on Bridge Island shortly before the party had escaped with the unitaur children.

Gecktar d20+7=18 d20+8=18 Thursday January 26th, 2006 3:25:39 AM
Gecktar smiles at Flat-Top words. "Yes, I'd talked about hot wine, my friend.... I've lost almost all relations with my family since... Well that's not the subject, but I remember one thing from my mother : how to prepare hot wine. I don't think we have all spices here to make the real recipe but, I will try to do something..."
Gecktar then prepares some wine, warm it on the fire pouring in it some herbs the Chosen may have to add some flavor.

I don't quite trust this Taur, I have a feeling that we will be call back to the Keep. And you know what will happen then? DEATH TO US ALL or one great big fight. Oh! Yess! I almost forgot??" Flat-top put's his hand into one side of his saddle bags, drawing out a medium size pouch, then give it to Zeoll, "Here is some gold (about 3,000gp), if you need more I have another pouch , it's for that map we need so baddly. I was saving the gold for an upgrade of my Tattoo of Healing."
Flat-top Speaks Center, or Taur and Common.
Brahmah Thursday January 26th, 2006 8:34:14 AM
[OOC:: Brahmah can read/write Common and Minotaur. However, like most taurs, has a passing familiarity with Tauric. He worked with dwarves and humans mostly though.]
"Its word of home?!" He says excitedly, forgetting his anger almost entirely.
Winterglade Thursday January 26th, 2006 9:49:08 AM
The young centaur, having confirmed that he is handing the letter to the right person, nods solemnly after he hands it to Brahmah.
"A word given, a promise fulfilled, a quest completed."
He witnesses Zeoll's declaration in silence. His expression becomes puzzled when the history of the sword is revealed.
Then he pushes himself unceremoniously into the ranks of the Chosen around the campfire.
"Ah, sour mood, anger, hurt feelings, a death threat and several cases of indigestion brewing up. Winterglade is talented in bringing the best out of everyone around."
"The Brawler indeed chose to intertwine your way with mine, although through another's hands. Markab, the one who wrote the letter, pleaded with me to swear that I will accompany and aid you until the matter described in the letter is resolved. At the time I knew not how my help can be of any use, yet now it becomes more and more clear. Rejoice, for you shall be blessed with my company for the time being. Such is my second purpose with you."
"So, you would trust a stranger on his word of honor, or because he carries the mark of the Smith and knows how to speak pleasant words? Hazelmane's Riddle it is how you manage to stay alive."

His eyes slide over to Winterglade, and then to Flat-Top. Ban Maeve tries to read the newcomer's expression (Sense Motive=4) when the generous fighter hands his gold over to Zeoll, but can detect nothing special in the stranger's demeanor. "For our common goal, the map and the swort!" he says, whispering the last as he hands over a bulging bag containing 1000 GP. "It is almost all of my worth," and with a toothy smile he pockets the remaining 5 GP, and change.
Before the wine is passed around the ranger/sorcerer passes a hand over it mururing a few words of magic (Prestidigitation) to enhance the drink's flavour.
Zeoll Thursday January 26th, 2006 10:21:09 PM
[OOC: Zeoll is completely illiterate, but he knows Read Magic and Comprehend Languages spells, and I have played that those grant him literacy enough in a pinch. A Dm would be more than welcome to reinterpret that use of those spells, though!]
Zeoll is glad that things are calmer, and he waits to hear someone read the letter aloud.
Zeoll also collects 3000 gp from Flat-top and 1,000 from Ban. He stows it away very carefully. He also kicks 700 gp into the pot, leaving himself only with a little change.
DM Bob and Carla Friday January 27th, 2006 12:06:40 AM
The taurs gather around the fire and Winterglade is made to feel welcome, though the centaur worries about the easy trust of his new companions.
Brahmah reads the letter from 'home' aloud to all. It warns that Vargas knows of an arcane map that shows the secret hiding place of a mighty sword. That the leader of the Will of Marteus seeks the map and has forseen that once in possession of the sword, his power will grow. He, and his minions will destroy all that the Chosen have worked to achieve. Markab bades the party return to Hearthold Keep as soon as Domi permits. The community thrives, but the threat of racial tension is ever present in the seas around Bridge Island.
Zeoll gathers the combined wealth of the Chosen and puts it away for safety in anticipation of the auction.
Thadius and Thalpius drink too much wine and soon join Toros in dream-land. Their snores keeping time with the deep rhythmic breathing of the Wemic.
The fire is banked in order to produce a steady warmth throughout the night and Ban Maeve and Zeoll take the first watch while the others seek out their blankets and bedrolls.
All roll Spot and Listen for your watch.
Flat-Top and Brahmah take second watch and Gecktar and Torros third watch as suggested by Zeoll. Winterglade must decide if he, too, will keep a vigil.
Gecktar d20+3=22 d20+3=17 Friday January 27th, 2006 3:33:17 AM Zeoll, I have more money than every one comnbined. I almost have more than 20,000 gp equivalent of money so don't fear about it. I intended to buy some magic with it but if it could serve our duty I will spend them."
After a good meal, Gecktar take place in his blanket around the fire and try to sleep.

Winterglade d20+5=19 d20+5=6 Friday January 27th, 2006 5:29:29 AM
Winterglade, who is accustomed to sleeping very little, spends about two hours of the early evening quietly dozing off, standing upright while asleep (like horses do), his hands folded on his chest and his entire body wrapped in his cloak. The rest of the night is spent thinking, looking at the sky, humming quiet tunes from his land and occasionally moving about the camp [Listen 19, Spot 6].
At the break of dawn he stretches, yawns, and departs from the group, running away into the woods at full speed. He is back about an hour later, visibly refreshed [standard selection of spells].
"Wake up, sun shines in the sky. Too much wine, too little wind in face. Lying down makes body weak."
"Little I know of your quest, only what I gathered from your talk and the letter. Enough to guess what you be here after, though. I have seven hundred gold, should you find yourself in a pinch. However..."
He lowers his voice.
"Winterglade has been thinking. Only those who know the item for what it is will bid, no? What if they believed the chart to be replaced with a clever forgery, a ploy to drain their resources, to send them after Sevenstars' Quarry? Would they bid then as high as they intend now? Can you spot them in the crowd? What if two indiscreet taurs were to have a talk a bit too loud somewhere nearby one of them? No lies, of course - just some comments vague enough to plant a seed of doubt?..."
Flat-top d20+7=26 d20+6=19 Friday January 27th, 2006 7:43:38 AM
Flat-top leans against a tree, dosing off untill it is his turn to go on Duty with the Captain. He ask Brahmah,"Well! what will we do? Go after the map? or go back home? And you know what awaits us there."
After his watch Flat-top dozes off and on for the rest of the night, But he did see Winterglade go off some where in a big hurry?? "I wonder where he's going in such a hurry?? Then about an hour or so He (Flat-top sees the new commer all clean, hair and main comb, his body brush as well, even his hooves were polish??) "Oh! By THe Hammer of Domi! He went and PREEMED himself."

Brahmah Friday January 27th, 2006 2:28:56 PM
"This whole letter about Vargas could be a ruse to gather us home. The Isles could already be under his control. It wouldn't be above Vargas to use dishonorable tactics."
He sighs. "Even the newcomer may have been decieved. It's hard to know what to do."
"I deeply want to return home, but there will be no home if Vargas gets his black hands on that map or sword."
"We must complete the Reunification of Races, even if we die trying."
"We have been exiled from the isles for awhile now. How can we be sure to get there safely? When last we left, the Keep was under seige. How can we know it still stands?"
He looks at Winterglade. "What assurances do you have that your not a minion of the Will of the Idiot God sent here to steer us down a false path?"
Toros Friday January 27th, 2006 8:42:49 PM
Feeling refreshed after sleep and meditation Toros greets Gecktar, and stay on the watch...

Zeoll d20+9=29 d20+3=16 Friday January 27th, 2006 9:47:36 PM
"Huh! Gecktarr, you arre amazing!" says Zeoll to the news that his friend has so much cash. "You know, if you want to pay half prrice forr yourr magic items, I may be able to make them forr you. What arre you interrested in?"
He says to everyone, "I think any money contrributed by a Chosen to the auction must be rrepaid out of parrty trreasurre as soon as we get some!"
He thanks the newcomer for his offerr of 700. "That's all I have, too," he says. "I hope that we will not need it forr long. Usually, by the grrace of Tomi, we seem to luck into a hoarrd when we need funds."
Zeoll's eyes sparkle at the idea the new centaurr proposes. "You know," he confides in his new comrade, "when I firrst began my adventurring carreerr, I was young and idealistic. Neverr speak ill of anyone else! Neverr lie! Those werre the prrecepts I lived by. But since them I have learrned thrrough harrd experrience that therre arre grray arreas indeed forr one can explorre in one's philosophy -- even one who still accepts a strrong devotion to the Brrawlerr, as you call him, and follows His Hearrt."
"Which is my rroundabout way of saying that I will help you sprread a spot of disinforrmation about that item in the morrning. We sufferr the rrisk of incrreasing interrest in that way, not to mention attrracting the enmity of ourr many-eyed host forr making false accusations of inauthenticity, but what is life forr if not to take chances in a good cause!"
The letter holds little relevance for the liontaur. "We knew that, essentially. We know that Varrgas seeks the sworrd. We know that we need that map so that we can find it beforre he does. I wonderr if anyone herre rreprresents that foul taur. We must keep safe and verry secrret ourr half of the map!"
When he hears Brrahmah's fear that the newcomer may be an agent of deception, Zeoll's smile wrenches into a wry grimace. "Please do not be offended by the Captain," he tells Winterglade. "He has experrience to back up his suspicions. In the past, the God of Filth has sent agents into ourr midst to spy and worrse. I can vouch forr that because *I* was the trratorous agent! Against my will the Sick God manipulated me. So suspicions arre naturral."
"By the way, I believe I have now thrrown off the effect of the god, but I would say that. Please do keep an eye on me and speak up if you everr suspect me of anything!"
With that, and sporting an expression of wry dismay and amusement, Zeoll goes on his watch.
On look-out, Zeoll is alert -- Spot 29! A natural 20! -- and keen of ear -- Listen 16.
Flat-top Sunday January 29th, 2006 10:42:20 AM
Flat-top goes to the new Centaur, Get's him aside, to talk to him. "Brother Winterglade! I too would like to tack a bath in the stream, But I cannot, I have to wait a little longer.
Now If some one notice how clean you are, groomed and polish. And our enermy sees you with us, looking out of place. They will see that we are the Chosen, they will try to kill us, because of the price on our heads.
Brother in Arms, You don't want us killed before we get the map? Do You?" He ask Winterglade in a very friendly tone. "I would advise you to start to like you belong with us. Get a little mess up and a little dirty??"
Ban Maeve d20+13=14 d20=1 Sunday January 29th, 2006 7:52:38 PM
Ban Maeve prowls the outskirst of the small camp set up by the party in the far corner of the clearing. He keeps a lookout (Spot=14) but the thoughts that rattle in his head result in inattention and the wemic hears nothing (Listen=nat. 1!)
The liontaur is both nervous and excited about what the next day will bring. He wonders what interesting magics might be up for sale at this auction or sale.
He is slightly suspicious when the centaur runs off into the woods and mysteriously appears an hour later. He shrugs his tawny shoulders at Flat-Tops explanation.
DM Bob & Carla Watch d3=2 R1 d20+14=21 d20+23=24 R2 d20+14=32 d20+23=34 Sunday January 29th, 2006 8:32:24 PM
Ban Maeve and Zeoll pass a quiet watch and wake Flat-Top and Brahmah when it is their turn. During the second watch the captain is sure he hears something, but his eyes can not pierce the darkness to discern who or what is just beyond the encampment. The minotaur and centaur are joined by the newcomer, Winterglade. Brahmah cautions the third watch, and during their turn Toros points to a dark shadow moving just beyond the trees, but Gecktar and Winterglade are unable to confirm the citing.
At dawn Winterglade disappears, but returns an hour later looking refreshed. This rouses the suspicions of some in the party who wonder if the stranger might be a spy sent by Vargus to infiltrate the group. However Flat-Top offers Winterglade a few tips on how better to blend in with the group, and Zeoll confides somewhat of his checkered past to his new friend.
The area comes alive with the sounds and smells of the day's first meal as the various groups camped in the glen prepare for the morning. Down near the mouth of the cave a ruckus breaks out in one of the encampments. The dwarves appear very upset and one of them is shouting something about their jewels being gone. They are demanding to search the neighboring camp sites for signs of their missing treasure.
Brahmah Monday January 30th, 2006 4:57:40 AM
Also waking around dawn, which is normal for Brahmah, the ranger tracks the centaur and watches for signs of decept. Finding none, he decides not to kill the newcomer outright. Rather, he decides to make ammends.
"Glade, can I call you Glade? Zeoll is right. I have suspicions of many people. When one comes in talking pretty and using fancy words, it reminds me of lies I've heard in the past."
Winterglade Monday January 30th, 2006 5:11:53 AM
Brahmah wants to be sure that the centaur's identity is really what he claims it is, and Zeoll apologizes for Captain's suspicions.
"Offended? No, Winterglade is not offended, he is glad. My wisdom seems to be rubbing off on you, for no longer you take a stranger's word for granted. I have no proof of my identity other than my word, but you can make sure it is sound. Gecktar, Brother of the Brawler, will know a way, lest he is but a novice in the ways of the Smith."
"I would have you ponder something, Captain. Should not the one who wants his word accepted without doubt on pain of death also be ready to take other's word without question? If he doesn't, either he deems himself better than any other, or his logic is flawed, no?"
"Glade? Yes, it will do, I suppose, especially in a fight, when there is no time for long names. Can I call you Bra?" The centaur blinks, nothing but innocent question in his eyes.
"Zeoll, child of Nonowla, Winterglade is wary of gray areas, for black, too, is a shade of gray... Yet I have learned that a twisted mind, upon hearing a purest truth, will often lie to itself... Winterglade says <Might be interesting to hear what the poor bugger's master has to say when he realizes what has been brought to him>; Winterglade smirks - and in a suspicious mind pure truth will start casting shadows. No falsehoods Winterglade had in mind."
"Flat-top, kin, every day at the break of dawn Winterglade spends an hour running in the wild, wind in face. He needs this to prepare himself for the moments when the Smith chooses to act through him. Winterglade gave his word and will try to fit in, even if he is asked to use extreme measures, like foregoing bathing. If it helps, he can even get a price on his head."
When the commotion at the dwarven camp breaks out and the party learns what it is all about the centaur says: "Uh oh, do you think what I think? Better search the camp."
Toros Monday January 30th, 2006 12:57:58 PM
Having slept early and all night, it is surprising to find Glade among the other Chosen in the third watch. "Did I miss a lot, Gecktar last night?" asks, hoping to be introduced to the new comer by the cleric.
Then a dark shadow lurks around the campsite... which he quickly relates to the news about the disappeared jewels from the dwarfs' site. Could this be that shadowy figure, whoever it was, responsible for that!?!?
Ban Maeve d20+7=18 Monday January 30th, 2006 11:21:09 PM
Ban Maeve wakes and studies the sky to determine what kind of day it might be (Knowledge Nature=18). His attention is is woon drawn to the commotion and he makes a move in the direction of the noisy camp, when he hears Winterglade's admonition. "Our golt!" he asks, looking to Zeoll. "Our golt for the purchase of the map! Is it safe?"
Zeoll Tuesday January 31st, 2006 6:11:55 AM
On hearing the news -- theft in the night, shadows around the camp -- Zeoll has two suggestions. First, Captain Brahmah should look for tracks around the camp. Second, a thorough check of possessions is in order. Zeoll makes sure that all is as it should be -- he hopes.
He says to Winterglade, "Frriend, do you still want to trry to sow some suspicion of the prrovenence of the item we seek to buy? I worrry that therre is alrready too much hostility in this gatherring."
When he has a chance, probably as Winterglade is running, Zeoll prepares his spells for the day:

DM Bob & Carla Tuesday January 31st, 2006 8:06:28 AM
Morning is a welcome sight to the taurs. One day closer to their goal, and the other half of the map almost within their grasp. Winterglade slowly finds himself accepted by the group. The shadowy figures of last night and the ruckus caused by the dwarves is disconcerting to a number of the party, and a quick check of their possessions is called for.
Toros, Flat-top, Winterglade, and Brahmah find nothing amiss, but Zeoll and Gecktar find signs that someone has tried to gain entry to their packs during the night...a strap on Zeoll's pack has been cut by the sharp blade of a knife, and one of the straps on Gecktar's pack has been loosened.
Winterglade Tuesday January 31st, 2006 11:18:07 AM
The young centaur introduces himself to Toros, treating him to his whole lineage and exhibiting his usual charm and warmth.
When Ban Maeve shows concern about gold Winterglade rolls his eyes and says: "Gold gone missing, I did not suspect. I feared to find more than we had just yesterday."
"Let us drop the misinformation idea, then. Enemy capable of sophisticated plans would not easily fall for a simple ruse, I am afraid."
Gecktar Tuesday January 31st, 2006 11:48:38 AM
Gecktar looks at his bag "I fear what I am going to fing in my bag... he says while searching into it and checking his possessions
Brahmah Tuesday January 31st, 2006 3:07:46 PM
Deadpan, Brahmah responds to Glade. "No, Captain is fine." Still pondering the question, rolls his eyes, then asks Glade his own question with a flipant tone. "If someone is better than another, wouldn't it be logical to assume someone else is flawed? What is better? Is it average? Then in that case, what is average?" He looks at the newcomer. "I've had this same philosophysical discussion before. Gives me a headache."
He drops the discussion. "What is it you do? Let me be clear I guess. How can you help in combat? In diplomatic situations and the like? We have no mysteries in the Chosen.
I am a tracker, fighter, sailor and Leader.
Flat-top is a fighter, sailor, morale booster and womanizer.
Toros does many things and is very useful all around.
Zeoll is the voice and the reason, our balance.
Ban is realitively new and I'm still getting to know him.
Gecktar is a holy warrior.
Most all of us are spellcasters in some manner.
We all revere Domi and his followers, and his children."
"We are expecting to gather a few new Chosen soon. Our ranks are low. Many Chosen are on walkabout gathering forces, but they haven't been heard from. Flat-top and I are the old-timers in the group."
Flat-top Tuesday January 31st, 2006 3:30:52 PM
Flat-top smiles at brahmah mentioning His "Womanizing", he smiles telling Glade, "Yes! I like the ladies, BUT only if they can dance !" then under his breath 'one way or another.'
"And yes about you? what can you do? Magic? Fight? or Try to Charm the enermy?" He ask with a grim.
Toros Tuesday January 31st, 2006 5:49:51 PM
Having being introduced, Toros eagerly listens to what Glade tells about himself. And Yes! "Having more money rather than less" would be the bigger trouble, however still, not hiding his anxiety, the liontaur waits what Gecktar and Zeoll finds out regarding their belongings.
Zeoll Tuesday January 31st, 2006 9:54:27 PM
Zeoll pretends to be offended by Brahmah -- "The old timerrs! Ha! I was Chosen long beforre you, oh elderr Captain!" Zeoll's words are belied by his wide grin. "Just because I took a couple yearrs off dead doesn't mean I'm not an old-timerr too!"
Zeoll takes on a more serious demeanor. "Yes, I'm a casterr. At the beginning of encounterrs, if I manage to fascinate or delay the enemy, please do not attack! Instead, use the time to buff yourrself orr flank. And if I charrm an enemy, go along with it so that we can worrk it to ourr advantage."
"But time is wasting! We have to go check out the items up for auction! Come on, everrybody!"
