To a Safehouse [DM SteveK] Sunday February 12th, 2006 12:43:30 AM
(OOC: Know this has taken overlong. Will work much better when we have a standardized method of decision-making [see emails for that discussion] For now to move things along, I'll take the majority rule.)
With most in agreement and a couple folk exasperated, the friends agree to drop off Neezer at a safe place for him, and then venture into the Backstab Quarter.
The old man doesn't seem pleased with being left out, but by being an unknown to all but Berlon, he is not completely trusted. Neezer directs them to a modest fabric store on the market square. "I will await here for the day tomorrow if you need any assistance. Remember, money talks, and the Merchants have gethered our considerable resources for greater influence." And he goes into the store.
The group of friends then hurry through the darkening streets to the Backstab Quarter, a place of narrow, dark streets, and folk who only walk in gangs. Trollop packs with a protector or two are on the occasional street corner. "Cheap group rates!" one scantily-clad halfling calls out laughingly. Then one of the protectors backhands the girl and srides forward. "Quiet you! These are the only folk in the city besides the Temple that seem to care about the common folk." He glares behind and flings and arm in the group's direction, "these here are the Heroes!"
The quick contact and question follows and the tough points at a run-down house on the corner. "Ain't pretty, but nobody lives there since Alber drunk hisself to death. There's a hidey basement you c'n use to keep away from authorities. Ain't noone here who will tell a soul."
It seems the order of the street here is no names, no questions. And reputation is everything. And the group's reputation is enough to get, if not a part of the common people, at least some private space.
The place is dirty. Looks like it was a corner store with a living area in the back. An upstairs (accessable from the outside) sounds like it has a family with young children living up there, but that belongs to some other slumlord. There was never any glass in this house (too expensive) and the thin oiled paper is ripped or taken away. Drifts of dirt are against all the walls and the place smells... unused would be charitable.
The hidden trapdoor in a storage closet between the public and living area of the ground floor. It is found easily enough since you knew where to look, but with hundreds of similar buildings in the Backstab Quarter, perhaps it would be really hard to find by searchers who had to look over thier shoulders as much as looking for fugatives.
The cellar is dirty. Of course. Heavy layers of dust are on the bare floor, bare shelves. It is only one room with a smaller room off to the side which has the only movable item still down here; a thundermug (i.e five gallon pitcher; this is the bathroom)
The group is at last alone, safe(?), and you can't hear the sounds of the family or the trollops calling outside.
Mad Jack Sunday February 12th, 2006 1:08:00 AM
With noticable impatience jack says, "Hey lets get this meeting going. I want to go back and get to know Roses cousin better." He wiks a knowing wink at Dietrich.
Vauhwyt Sunday February 12th, 2006 6:35:16 AM
Vauhwyt uses her last cantrip of the day to cast Prestidigitation, used to clean the basement up enough so that she can sit down without feeling grotty.
"Okay," she says, "This is what happened when we went inside the palace. If I miss a part, just chime in," she adds, looking at Rose, Vorelle, Theo and Jack.
"Rememberr, we were warned that if we went to the Palace, we would be ambushed. Was it Olyn who told us that? So our goal was to sneak past the ambush, get to the Prince, reveal ourselves, and give him both a report and Targo."
"Well, we snuck in, and didn't see any sign of ambush or Prince. In fact, we heard that the Prince was dead, but I didn't believe it. The only way the Prince would be dead would be if some rival took advantage of a chance to assassinate him and hide the body so that he could not be raised. I figured if he was dead, we could find the body and take it to the Temple."
"Inside, we found Logan, who by his very own words, not knowing we were there, revealed that:
(1) The Prince was faking his own death.
(2) He intended to use the chaos that would follow as cover to assassinate Falquan and the "conspiracy," which I now take to mean Vorelle's family and Targo.
(3) He was angry at us because of the Book, the Fae King, and because his plan for the Merchants had gone awry. Our pesky group would be blamed for the "assassination" and probably killed. I now think that all those rumors that WE planned to assassinate the Prince were actually started by the Prince to prep for us taking the fall.
(4) Later, the Prince would return to power, takign control in the chaos, and be stronger than ever.
Then we attacked Logan, beat him, and interrogated him, confirming all that."
"He even called us "The Patsy Heroes" to our face. That confirms that we were intended to be the patsies!"
"Then, since we knew that meeting the Prince would end poorly, we dressed Logan as a prisonerr, I disguised myself as him, and we left. We met most everyone outside the Palace."
"Here are my questions:
"Olyn, Dietrich, and Berlon, what happened to you?"
"Jack, when we got seperated in the Palace, what happened to you? I thought you would be captured, and we would have to rescue you."
"Who is Falquan? When we save him, will he be our friend? Will that help us?"
"We have started reports that the Prince is alive. Right this instant, there are competing stories, facts, and misinformation all over Dirt City."
"I suggest that we want to put ourselves out there as heroes who foiled the assassination plot. The rumor that we were the assassins was a clever ploy we used to draw out the real assassins. We foiled the plot to kill the Prince. You know it is true because there is no body on display, and because even if the Prince were killed, the clerics would raise him."
"My only reservation is that since Logan knows we know about Farquan, and since he slipped away, they might speed up the executions, anticipating a rescue attempt."
"So, do we try the rescue sooner or later? If later, do we want to go spread rumors around town first? I suppose we could do the rescue and then spread rumors."
Mad Jack Sunday February 12th, 2006 8:20:50 PM
"Ah yes, as far as being captured , the blond man in charge gave me a money pouch as reward." Jack reaches into his tunic, searching. He then pulls out a small pouch and tosses it on a table nearby.
"I figured you could use whatever he gave, for Targo, on those items you bought when we did the ruse. As far as your reasoning on raising the prince. If the clerics had such power why would they let anyone die. This Prince of yours has shown me nothing but bsd manners, and horrible loyalty to his men and his people. I dont know why you are so bent on keeping him alive. Maybe Rose or Vorelle could share with me, why the Prince is the Prince. and most importantly a reason why I should give him any loyalty. I mean for me, one guy running this place is the same as any other. In recent events, I would give Neezer, Berlons friend, a chance at running the city, instead of that cursed Prince."
Rose d20+6=15 Sunday February 12th, 2006 9:10:18 PM
When at the cloth stall Rose looks longingly at the varieties of cloth, but she doesnt have any money and the group is in a hurry.
As the group enters the basement she looks around for someplace to get water, not only will the group get thirsty, but they need water for cooking and cleaning.
ooc: dm's what does Rose know about the working's of dirt city & why the prince is the prince? know local dirt city: 15
DM SteveK: Rose and the other long-time Dirt City residents know the general history of Dirt City (you can go to Duncan's Maps for the full story). The extremely expurgated version is that Dirt City was founded by families of thieves who fled Osto. For strength, they gathered in bands which eventually became the Houses. The Prince isn't royalty; he is the canniest, sneakiest thief of all; a Prince of Thieves. A first among equals rather than an unquestioned ruler, the Prince has to watch out to not be too powerful or pushy or else the Houses would tear him down.
After the sacrifices of Violet and Arturo (see Duncan), the Prince was Suran Corell and seemed to try and use his influence to make the City a better place. Suran seemed to come into a severe personality change after he got a Book that the Dirt City Heroes gave to him. Soon after that, the Book was lost (enter Berlon), the Fey King arose (enter Mad Jack), and it appears the Prince faked his own death and tried to have you killed.
Olyn Sunday February 12th, 2006 10:03:20 PM
Mad Jack, not everyone is loyal to the Prince. Matter of fact, I would rather him be dead.
In reply to Vauhwyt: Where did I go? I'll tell you where I went. After returning to our patron I was having a nice conversation with Gargul before I was wisked back into the land of the living. So I tell you this, do not speak for me when it regards loyalty to the Prince. I am not a loyal servant of his. My loyalty lies with Wardd and the House of Wolves and to those that are my friends/family.
And by the way. We are all now targets for assassination. And when people say we are heroes and noone will hear from them where we are. Like all people in this forsaken city, everyone has their price. So the longer we stay here, the sooner it starts.
Theodore and Macaw Sunday February 12th, 2006 10:29:03 PM
Theodore brushes off a spot on the floor before crossing his legs and taking a seat. Macaw bounces off after a leggy insect he spotted in the corner.
After politely waiting for Vauhwyt to tell her story, Theodore voices his confirmation that her facts are true. "I should think it necessary to mount a rescue attempt for Vorelle's family. I would hope that you would all do the same if my master Geoffrey were taken."
Vorelle Sunday February 12th, 2006 11:39:35 PM
"I'm s-s-s-sorry t-to b-b-be s-such t-t-t-t-trouble," says Vorelle miserably. She doesn't understand why she's willing to go to such lengths to help people who have hurt her, but she can't just stand by and let them be killed.
She relates what she overhead in the Palace.
"I h-h-h-have to t-t-t-try to st-stop this," she says. "Y-you d-d-d-don't h-have to h-h-h-help m-me. It's d-d-d-dangerous."
OOC: BigTim Monday February 13th, 2006 10:03:39 AM
(ooc, Vorelle, you said you relate what you overheard in the palace. I for one didnt read the "highlight to display spoiler" the GM sent to you so would you mind elaborating in a post?)

Dietrich d20+4=9 d20+4=13 d20+4=6 Monday February 13th, 2006 10:04:28 AM
Dietrich is happy to leave the market and reach a safer place. But he agrees with Olyn about the risk of treason.
"Should we really decide to stay independent based on the people, we´ll have to do what is necessary to protect us, like building up our own information service, increasing our support base etc. But we´ll have this discussion later."
At the moment, Dietrich examines the situation of the place, not giving too much importance to the dirt, but analysing it under a military point of view (military knowledge 9, carpentry 13, masonry 6), like strong and weak points, commanding view, routes of escape etc.
To Vauhwyt he replys that he went to try to get the Wolve´s help and found Olyn almost beaten to death by his "patrons". After that, they moved to meet Berlon, under threat of the same populace that now seems to love them again... Dietrich is annoyed enough at what he hears about the Prince, and it solifies his opinion that now that man can only be counted as an enemy.
"Jack, in the past the Prince shared many of our own goals and we supported him, be it for the sake of keeping the stability in the CIty and avoiding a bloody civil war. But now I agree with you, I´d rather have someone else in his position."
Finally, he agrees with the need of prioratizing the rescue action. It´s Vorelle´s family! And it´s also the only people they could get more info from, about who exactly are their enemies etc.
Rose Monday February 13th, 2006 10:10:20 PM
Rose will give Vorelle the clothes and other items she grabbed at the girls apartment (ie weapons & stuff). She then hands out crackers, jerky, and dried apples to anybody who wants some before sitting down and telling the story of dirt city.
Kathy - OOC Monday February 13th, 2006 11:37:07 PM
Here it is again, for anybody that can't scroll up to Thursday's post:
"You have the ringleader?" asks an angry voice. "Falquan is in our custody, yes" replies a cold voice. Angry: Not here? Cold: No, at the safehouse. You know the one? At the abandoned farmstead towards the mountain with the crazy dwarfs. Angry: Ah, yes. The logging track with the large rowan tree. That is good. And the others? Cold: We have not found the assassin, the one called Targo. But we have rounded up most of his conspiracy. Angry: Most??? Cold: (Placating) All his family and in-laws, but have not yet found the wife he is supposed to have. Angry: Wife and Husband gone to ground... No matter, Falquan by the axe and the others hung on the trees for killing the Prince. Tomorrow is soon enough. Cold: He is dead then? Angry: Food for the worms. Cold: (eager) And the next Prince? Angry: (eager) For daggers and poison to decide. I never liked the peace anyways.
Berlon d20+1=14 Tuesday February 14th, 2006 12:20:36 AM
Berlon is quiet, although he does make an odd face at the mention of a mountain with crazy dwarves.
"Neezer is my contact with the would be House of Merchants. In exchange for me returning a favor at a later date, they were going to rescue you all. To be honest, I'm not sure they actually ended up doing anything, but that's another issue for another day."
"Dietrich is quite right. We need to secure Vorelle's family, then we need to find out about this abandoned farmstead. I am quiet sure Neezer could find out if we asked him politely."
"Can someone check the main floor while I search the basement?" (Search check 14)
Jack Tuesday February 14th, 2006 12:21:04 AM
Jack listens and keeps his eyes open.
Conversations in the Basement [DM SteveK] Tuesday February 14th, 2006 1:41:35 AM
Information is shared about what the various heroes did, and what they overheard.
(Everyone please roll a Spot Check)
DC 10 [ DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: { the floor here in the basement is very similar to the construction of the floors in the corridors of the City Below } DC 20
Vauhwyt's cantrip is able to push the loose dirt into a corner fairly effectively, but after all, this is Dirt City. The floor is dirt too, if hard-packed at least.
Mad Jack tosses the leather bag of money on the floor (no furniture in the basement) as his 'reward' for capturing Targo. It contains 50 gold coins.
Rose searches around the basement (Search take 10) but only finds the two rooms, one thundermug, and the dusty shelves along the far wall. No water source available. She does hand out the stuff that was gathered from the apartments.
Olyn stands and states his case, his wolf ring winking openly on his hand.
Theodore brushes off a spot and sits, and Macaw manages to trap the insect in a corner to have a quick snack.
Vorelle tells her info.
Dietrich doesn't know much about the house. It is rickety, but likely to still be standing for a year or two. The military situation is worse. The basement looks to be a hidey hole with no other way out. Could be OK to defend against weapons, but smoke, fire, or gas could quickly take everyone out. To stay here, the best option looks to be not getting discovered in the first place.
Berlon searches the basement, but finds no more than did Rose. He suggests checking the main floor, but is pretty sure that an abandoned house in this poor quarter of the city would contain nothing that wasn't nailed down.
And now, strange sounds are coming from the area of the trap door. A rhythmic sound of grunts and other noises testifies that the abandoned house is used by the gang on the corner for thier 'johns'. Looks like a good cover as long as they don't betray you.
Looks like a couple people have directions to the abandoned farmhouse where Falquan and Vorelle's family and in-laws are being held for execution on the morrow. Innocent they are not, but they are innocent of the charges against them, and they are Vorelle's family.
The name Falquan sounds familiar, like the name of a minor guildmaster of one of the Houses. Why the Prince would want to court an all out House war by executing a guildmaster is unknown, but it sounds like this Falquan is/was another threat to the Prince's plans or why else would he want him killed secretly?
The conversations continue.
Vauhwyt d20+4=21 Tuesday February 14th, 2006 4:44:36 AM
Spot check 21! Woo Hoo! Steve, is there text missing in your post for Spot DCs 10 and 20?
In answer to Berlon's point about did the merchants help us escape, Vauhwyt is careful to tell him that at a crucial point, a guy the Merchants had on the inside gave just the distraction the party needed to get out of the Palace.
Then on to the decision at hand. "I got directions to the farmhouse from Logan, and that's where Vorelle's family is being held."
"The two choices before us are these: Rescue Falquan and Vorelle's kin ourselves, or contract it out to the Wolves."
"Would the Wolves do it? And do we have enough cash to pay for it? I dunno."
"I do know that I'd rather get our own back firsthand. There's not so much satisfaction in payback at a distance."
"And although I have advocated a public pretense of support for the Prince, and although at one time I thought he was a good guy, the fact is that since we gave him that Book, he's been a nut job wacko."
Mookie pipes up, "Don't pull your punches, Boss! Tell them how you really feel."
Vauhwyt continues, "The point is, rescuing those people is not only the right thing to do, but it is excellent revenge against the Prince. That jerk. I wish I could see his face when he finds out we've stolen those folks out from under him."
"Besides, all the omens point to us doing this job ourselves. Sure, I got no spells left, but I have a couple scrolls, I'm almost unscratched, and I bet Theo has a few tricks up his sleeve."
"I say tackle the farmhouse now, ourselves, and worry about spinning events later."
Dietrich d20+4=7 Tuesday February 14th, 2006 9:46:11 AM
Dietrich is a little worried about the house, but then, they are not meant to stay there for ever. Later on, rotating their safeplaces should become a routine. spot 7
The warrior listens to Olyn and his other friends. It´s true that the party isn´t at its best, with most magic already used, but contracting the Wolves doens´t seem to be a good option. It´d be expensive and it´d bind them more to that House, something Dietrich prefers to avoid.
"I´d suggest we do the rescue action ourselves, maybe contracting some extras from the Merchants, like magic, surveillance, or some troops."
The fighter is eager to finally put his beloved sword to good use again. The politics is all fine and necessary, but his muscles are getting rusty.
Berlon d20+3=5 Tuesday February 14th, 2006 11:56:11 AM
"I don't think we have the time or resources to hire anyone," Berlon says as he scrunches down in a corner, pulling quill and parchment from his backpack. "'Tomorrow' could mean dawn or dusk. Even if a House were willing to do us a favor, there's no guarantee they could muster forces in time.
Berlon furiously scribbles on the parchment, otherwise unaware of his surroundings. (Spot check 5)
Once he is done, he shows it to any interested, before sealing it up with his signet ring.
"N- Need to know Falquan's House and Rank, as well as number of captors. Also, need partial pre-payment of discussed loan in form of immediate usable materials. Urgent. Any payments will be considered towards the existing contract or a second, and this will dramatically assist with ability to execute existing. -B"
He will then discretely try to find a street urchin or other reliable messenger type. He will give the messenger the sealed scroll, along with a gold coin. Berlon instructs the messenger to take the scroll to the storefront Neezer disappeared into, then wait and come back with whatever he is given. When he does, there will be an extra 5 gold for him.
"Now THAT," Berlon says quietly, "ought to do it."
"I suggest we prepare to leave before dawn..."
Jack Tuesday February 14th, 2006 5:57:35 PM
OOC Okay folks, this is a lengthy post. Some of the info may be ooc knowledge, and some info may be assumed. I think this proposition may allow us to bond as a unit, and have a direction, or goal.
Jack stands and asks for everyones attention. As people quiet down, still in their own thoughts he begins.
"This may be lengthy, but please hear me out. We all agree that the Prince is not the good guy he used to be, why? I think I have figured it out. Ask your selves the few 'whys, we have been asking for days now. Why is the Prince allowing his city to deteriorate? Why did he not help in the fight against Ebyeron? Why is he setting the 'heroes' up for a fall? Most importantly, the Prince is afraid of something, or someone, or a group of someones. This would allow for his eradick behavior, and the lack of support for the people, since he will need his resources and men, when the usurper comes. Now while you think on those questions let me describe some facts that we know of.
"Who are these 'heroes'? First off there is Rose, a halfling from the city it self. Then we have Vorelle, who is a human, also from the city itself, more specifically i think I heard the word Grubber mentioned. Theo, a young wizard with ties to the house of Cloaks. Dietrich, a local fighter, with ties to the temple and religion of Wardd. Olyn, a fighter who is of the house of wolves.
Ok looking at that section of people, does anyoe see any way the Prince would be threatened. I say no. Then let us introduce Berlon, a gnomish cleric type from a city not to far away. Now does the Prince think Berlon, or his village is a threat? I still say no. Okay, there is most of the party of heroes. Does anyone see what the threat is? If you are looking and pointing at Vauhwyt, you are correct. Why?
It is simple survival. Vauhwyt represents something that Dirt City does not want. The WLA. Now lets look back over our little group with that in mind. If the WLA has sent Vauwht here to set up an outpost, can you all see the importance of each of our backgrounds? Along with my knowledge of the Badlands, each of your house affiliations, being halfling and Grubber, that makes this group of heroes, extremely useful in the hands of the WLA
Now we know that is not what is happening, but remeber power in Dirt City is measured by preparedness, cunning, treachery, and luck. So, if the powers that be, all think we are working in concert with the WLA, then that is why they will not support us. And to emphasize what Olyn told us, everyone is our to kill us, because of the threat we are creating.
Theodore and Macaw Tuesday February 14th, 2006 6:08:28 PM
"I too think we should save Vorelle's family," Theodore says from his sitting position. He brushes his hair back. "But we don't need to necessarily bring them back by force. Perhaps we could negotiate their release or sneak in and free them without any altercations. I still have an invisibility spell and a couple of silent images. It's...possible." He shrugs.
"Any other ideas?"
Jack (Cont) Tuesday February 14th, 2006 6:19:38 PM
"So, take a moment and consider this. Our lives are crucial to Dirt City now, we are tied to the common people. But, we are few, we have very few resources, but worst of all we have no network set up here. We are very vulnerable to attack.
"My proposal is to do exactly what the Prince and the houses fear of us already. They have shown us the way to victory. Let us plan the rescue for Vorelles family, after the rescue, we travel to the nearest WLA outpost, and send word to Lars, I think he is the leader, of our intentions. If the WLA will deal with us, we will give them something they can not turn down. Information. Information coming into Dirt City, and leaving. I really believe that if we approach this man with a dead on plan for success in Dirt City, we could return back to the city, with the support of an organization, that the Prince, and the other house leaders will not dare to fight. And more importantly, we will become equals of power, and the Prince and the House leaders will seek our cooperation. We then assure, and insure the safety of all people in Dirt City, and give normal, regular, common people the oppurtunity to become someone.
"I know, I know, your thinking we will need to all join the WLA. I say no we wont. Our strengths all are dependent on out freedoms with our own peoples. With Vauhwyts membership, that should be enough. Now i also say this transition will not be easy. But tell me our worthwhile it will be if we pull it off.
"Thats how I see the events transpiring around us. This is also why we cannot ally ourselves with any house, or just the people. The city leaders are entrenched in their beliefs and ways, they do not want change. I say change is exactly what is needed here.
Vorelle d20+10=25 Tuesday February 14th, 2006 10:27:38 PM
"W-w-we sh-should t-t-try to t-t-t-talk to them," Vorelle agrees with Theo. "B-b-but I d-d-d-don't think it'll w-w-work."
As the others discuss plans, Vorelle paces restlessly, too upset and worried to sit still.
Conversations in the Basement [DM SteveK] Wednesday February 15th, 2006 5:37:44 AM
OOC1: To wrap up a lentghy email conversation; how is the group going to make decisions? To give everyone equal representation, it is pretty much either a selected leader or by vote within the post. For now, If the players can't come up with a front man for decisions, I'm going to take majority as what the entire party is going to do. Just so everyone is on the same sheet of music. :)
OOC2: Sorry about the incomplete post for the Spot checks
DC 10 Highlight to display spoiler: { the basement is well insulated from noises above at the street level.} DC 20 Highlight to display spoiler: { there is the faintest sound in the thundermug room, but it is coming from the wall. There is certainly no door here, but... it is possible this wall is close to a tunnel of the City Below.}
Talk continues as to what to do.
Since no one objected to Berlon's note, it is sealed and given thru the pimp on the corner to an urchin who runs off. Soon enough, there is an answering note sealed with coin shaped imprint in silver wax.
"B - To fulfill your contract, get a team to rescue Falquan by noon tomorrow. He is a junior Guildmaster in the House of Daggers and is sympathetic with the Merchants; we need him alive. Will be executed by axeman, others hung. About a dozen PMen there. Stable near House of Wolves on road towards Bone Mountain will have horses for your team and map to get there. Ask for Jethro in the morning. -N"
Dietrich Wednesday February 15th, 2006 10:23:36 AM
Dietrich listens to his friends and votes:
1) He agrees with Berlon´s contract; seems there will be even enough time to refill their energy and do the job with full magic. The support of the House of Daggers would also be a very important and positive aspect.
2) Although he doesn´t completely share Jack´s analysis (as for him, the main reason for the Prince and others to fear the party is their popularity after saving the CIty and the consequent influence that came with it, and not any contact to that WLA), Dietrich agrees that being allied with that powerful entity would be a good step. He doesn´t consider this to be enough though. The WLA is far away and not as powerful as they seem. The cut-throats of the city, MErchants and Temple of Wardd are much nearer and just gave a showing of what they can achieve.
3) Concernig the methods of the rescue, Dietrich unfortunatelly doesn´t share Theo´s optimism. How could there be any negotiation? It would only give away the surprise moment.
In relation to using sneakery, the warrior aproves, but he doesn´t believe this will be enough and better be prepared for a fight.
Theodore and Macaw Wednesday February 15th, 2006 4:02:59 PM
Theodore chews on his lip as his friends talk about options. Now and then he nods in consent or furrows his brow in disagreement, but remains silent until there is a pause in the discussion.
"It seems that most of us are of the mindset to attempt a rescue. Olyn, I hope that you will accompany us. Your strength will be greatly beneficial. Berlon, is there anything that would give you doubt that Neezer's information of the execution tomorrow at noon is true? If the time is correct, we might have enough time to rest and recover our strength before such a venture."
Theodore stands - or attempts to, staggering as his shoe catches the cuff of his pant leg - and wipes the dirt from his trousers. "I'm no tactician," he admits. "My plan was to turn Vorelle invisible and let her slip in and free the captives while I create a distracting illusion elsewhere. What do the rest of you think?"
(OOC - What is the current time, O Mighty DM?)
Berlon Wednesday February 15th, 2006 8:26:54 PM
Berlon sighs when there is nothing else accompanying the note. "Stealth might work, but the more prisoners there are, the more likely stealth won't be the answer. Either way, I suggest we set up watch and otherwise prepare for a rescue mission..."
Conversations [DM SteveK] Thursday February 16th, 2006 1:25:05 AM
The conversation looks like the party will be on the rescue mission, just a few minor points as to being diplomatic, sneaky, or hard-and-fast.
Oh, and getting sleep and preparing.
Olyn Thursday February 16th, 2006 2:18:55 AM
if we are going to do this, then might I suggest we do it now. not on someone elses scehdule. let us go to the stables, wake up this jethro, get our horses and map and head out. when we are close to the farm, those of us who need rest and prepare spells do so while those with information gathering techniques go and do so near this farm. even if we have to rest til an hour or 3 after dawn we would still be in a better advantage than if we waited til dawn to leave.
Rose Thursday February 16th, 2006 3:25:25 AM
Rose looks confused at Jack's speech. "Jack what are you talking about? The Prince isnt mad at us because Vauhwyt is in the league of adventurers, but because we lost that cursed book and we're famous. There's a league outpost just outside the city and it's been there for a long time. Also Vauhwyt's not the only person in the wla, I am and I'm sure that there are more people in dirt city who are as well."
While Rose is talking she is putting away anything she took out, sharpening her sword, ect then stands up "Ok, lets go rescue Vorelle's family."
Vauhwyt Thursday February 16th, 2006 4:43:18 AM
"I think Jack has some good ideas," says Vauhwyt, "but Rose has the right of it. It was the Book that warped the Prince. And the WLA *does* have a small outpost here already."
"But Jack's ideas are right on target. I do think that we need to culivate friends, among them, the WLA and the Temple. We need a network of people who will let us in at night when we knock on the door. People who will keep their ears open for us."
"I also think Olyn is right. We have to go to the farmhouse right now, then maybe let the casters rest while others, like Vorelle maybe, scout. Theo can cast his Invisibility on Vorelle and then go to sleep."
"And I don't mind being paid by the Merchants to rescue this Falquan guy, since we were going to do that anyway."
Dietrich Thursday February 16th, 2006 10:10:47 AM
Dietrich simply nods in complete agreement at Vauhwyt´s last speech, and gets ready to leave the city, with his stuff and the mule. He thinks to himself: "Maps, horses, finally some concrete action. Domi be with us!"
To Theo he says: "Seems like a good base for a plan, we´ll see to the details when we have more information."
OOC: Just a clarification to JAck and an answer to Rose´s last mail. Dietrich is a 4/1 fighter/rogue, ex-soldier from the WIndbourne Hills. He´s very tall and large (similar body to Jack himself), wears medium armour and the personal sign of a red bear standing agaisnt a black background, and of course the great-sword. He has short, blond hair and grey eyes, though most of the time he wears a bucket-like steel helmet.
Dietrich isn´t nearer to Wardd than any of the party, his personal deities are more Domi and Gargul.
Concerning Rose, although she isn´t exactly his closest buddy, Dietrich likes and respects her. The warrior´s protective instincts are strong towards the small child-like hobbit, but he´s seen her on action often enough to appreciate her valour.

Mad Jack Thursday February 16th, 2006 5:57:07 PM
OOC Sorry for the mistakes I made with individual characters. My main point wasto get a goal for the group, and organization to help us all be on the same page. I KNEW there was a post of WLA, it was only an exampleof what 'might' be the cause of the Princes actions. From my outsiders view, it looks like the WLA could be making a move. And more specifically, noone knows why the Prince is acting the way he is. In this lovely city of conspiracy and thievery, intrigue and backstabbing, more options than the 'normal' should be analyzed. When one goes to afight, he/she plans on several actions being taken, and several that might be.
Again, I was trying to look at the big picture. Exactly what Olyn did about our current situation. We have no idea when the prisoners will be executed. Tonight, dawn, afternoon. Who wants to leave that decision to Neezers information? Imho, great job Olyn.
"Very Well, I must hurry then. I will meet you at this stable as soon as possible. I have something to do." With that he leavrs their little meeting house. Looking around he gets his bearing to where he is and moves of to where he had stabled his own horse.
Berlon Thursday February 16th, 2006 6:36:27 PM
"Quite right, we should get going now. We can set camp somewhere close, hopefully..."
Theodore and Macaw Thursday February 16th, 2006 9:39:37 PM
"That sounds like a plan," says Theodore. He whistles to Macaw. The raven hops twice and flaps into the air to perch on the top of the young wizard's head. "I'm ready to go."

A little overwhelmed, Vorelle prepares to go with her friends. She doesn't quite believe that they're doing this. For her. Oh sure, she'd do the same for any of them, but having people willing to go out of their way to help her is kind of a new experience. She isn't sure what to make of it.
As they go, she uses her skills to find the best path, and the best place to camp. It's the least she can do for them.
