"Suspicious. I think Placers aren't liked much by the nobility here. Maybe the folks here are frightful to stand up to a tyrant, this Fidelia woman."
Lian looks thoughtful for a minute, then speaks again. "Personally, I think those placers who have come here, and went missing, may have asked too many questions or gotten their noses into things."

The Way to Go - DM Donna Tuesday February 14th, 2006 12:42:58 AM
K'Nara considers the options and then nods.
"Since this Skinner guy seems to be located closer to where we are now, we'd best head there first." she says decisively. "Then we can visit the mushroom farmers."
The group finds themselves ambling across the hamlet towards a medium-sized cottage. The front of the cottage actually has larger-than-normal windows...one could say that the windows were more like shop-style openings with wide window sills that acted a lot like mini-counters. At one of the windows, inside the cottage, is a rather burly goblin who looks a lot like he swallowed a crate of lemons.
"Excuse me, Master Butcher..." K'Nara begins to say, only to be cut off with a bit of a snarl:
"Make it fast, human," Skinner snaps churlishly, "I don't cotton to placers--come in an' mess up the natural order of things, I tell ya..!"
Lian Tuesday February 14th, 2006 3:46:17 AM
"Well, Sir Butcher, it is not our intention to mess up the natural order of things. In fact, if you can help us, we'll be out of this realm as soon as possible." Says the elf, pleasantly.
Brother Bertram Tuesday February 14th, 2006 4:22:34 AM
Bertram waits seeing what K'nara might find out from the butcher. In his mind he is still thinking about what happens to the prey after a hunt.. He decides he doesnt care much for the butcher.
Olana Tuesday February 14th, 2006 2:21:59 PM
"Mushroom farmers," says Olana on their way out, and breaks into a fit of shoulder-shaking giggles. These soon stop on meeting Skinnner, and she attempts to hide behind Gunther.

Gunther Tuesday February 14th, 2006 10:32:56 PM
The warrior is taken aback by the butcher's tone to K'nara and decides on some "orc diplomacy". Dropping low, Gunther pounces (removing Olana's hiding place) toward the butcher in the window and grabs him by the shoulders in one quick move. "Ich interessiere mich nicht, wenn Sie uns mögen oder nicht, aber Sie werden uns erklären, daß was wir benötigen und Sie werden es jetzt tun!" he growls at the butcher in orcish. And then, just to be sure, he states in Common "You vill tell us vhat ve vant to know, and you vill tell us now!"

Just a Neighborly Chat - DM Donna Wednesday February 15th, 2006 4:16:43 PM
K'Nara is completely unprepared for Gunther's reaction to the taciturn butcher--but the goblinoid now pinned by the large fighter's double grip seems only to be grudgingly impressed.
"You're the bigger one--the stronger one--so I have to answer," Skinner acknowledges, but then he adds with a bit of a sneer:
"...but you have to actually ASK me something so that I can answer it..! I'm a goblin, NOT a mind-reader!"
The leader of the Talons suppresses a groan--the goblin has a point--no one has even asked Skinner a question yet.
Ingrge Wednesday February 15th, 2006 6:15:21 PM

Olana Wednesday February 15th, 2006 10:34:59 PM
Olana's frown disappears and she starts to giggle at Milo's antics. "Zee vair den unz erk lerren" she says amidst the giggles.

Answers Right or Wrong - DM Donna Thursday February 16th, 2006 11:31:28 PM
Ingrgre's questions (not that he actually posted these again so that *I* didn't have to go looking for them):
"So how long is this "Hunt?" Exactly who partakes in this Hunt? How many hunters are there normally? Are there any rules to this hunt? Is anything forbidden? How do they normally find, search for, or flush their intended prey? Where does this hunt take place? Are there boundaries, or safe zones within the hunting area?"
The goblin glares at the elf, a rather rude snarl on his face--but the implied threat of Gunther continues to garner his cooperation.
"The Grand Hunt is held exclusively to celebrate M'Lady Fidelia's birthday, so it lasts but one night, from moonset to moonrise." Skinner explains. "M'Lady and her minions are the hunters...these minions include the sheriff and the deputies. You can count on there being at least a dozen hunters or so. The rules be simple: avoid getting caught until the glow of the moon streaks the sky. The only thing forbidden in the Hunt is the killing of humans--no human may be slain during the Hunt. M'Lady uses her hounds to track & flush her prey. The Grand Hunt usually starts within the boundaries of the Crystal Forest, but has been known to range across the breadth and width of Harrowed Moon on occasion." The goblin's reumy yellow eyes squint craftily at Ingrge.
"And there be only one safehouse, IF ye can find it." Skinner says. "A rather magical place that I have ne'er clapped eyes upon m'self. A place known as the Wanderers' Refuge...a tavern that seems to appear and disappear on its own schedule. Hunters are not allowed within."
The goblin's jaw snaps shut and his stance is stiff. He doesn't look like he'll be any too cooperative from this point on, in spite of how threatening Gunther may seem.
Lian d20+8=23 d20+10=25 Friday February 17th, 2006 12:28:34 PM
The monk steps out of the group. "The phrase 'no humans' has crossed many folks lips when we ask about the Hunt. As you realize, sir, we are NOT all humans, in fact, there are only two among my friends. Can I assume that they will be the only ones 'safe' on the Hunt?"
"Is it any wonder that the sheriff seemed eager for us to accept the 'honor' of the Hunt?! SHE'S hunting us!
Is there anything about this Amalee we need to know? Is she specially trained in tracking?
Are there any descriptions of this Wanderers' Refuge from anyone?"
Lian racks his mind for possible magical ways to find the Refuge. (Knowledge arcana 23, Spellcraft 25)
Brother Bertram Friday February 17th, 2006 1:32:19 PM
"And I still dont have an answer on my question. Has ANYONE been seen alive after they participate in this hunt?"
Gunther Saturday February 18th, 2006 12:48:47 AM
Giving the goblin a nice stiff jolt, Gunther sees if he can "shake" any of the answers to Lian's questions out of him. If not, Gunther finally lets the shopkeep go...lowering him lightly to the floor. "Danke für Ihre ganze Hilfe." he states simply, and then turns to go.

Cooperation...or else - DM Donna Sunday February 19th, 2006 7:30:06 PM
"Sheriff Amalee is the best tracker in the land, elf," snarls the goblin, "Even without the support of M'Lady's hounds, you'll be hard-pressed to elude her." The butcher harrumphs.
"I'd imagine that non-humans better watch 'emselves during the Hunt, but all I can truly tell yas is that the object of the Grand Hunt is the thrill of the chase, not to kill the prey. All kinds of other beasties get nailed along the way, though."
Finally released by Gunther, Skinner takes the time to add in a gruff voice:
"The Wanderers' Refuge is more a myth of the shadows...probably the result of some big mouth having to much shroom sauce before spouting off. All I can say is that I have never seen it...an' I don't truly know anyone else here who has, neither."
With that, the goblin scuttles away, behind his counter.
"Go now--you're stifling business!" he bids the party in a rather rude voice.

Child's Play - DM Donna d20+1=21 Tuesday February 21st, 2006 12:30:56 AM
K'Nara nods to Gunther and accompanies him out of the shop. She frowns a bit, having caught the surreptitious incantation by Ingrge (OOC: Spot was a natural 20), but she ultimately says nothing as the group leaves the reluctantly-cooperative butcher's shop.
"I'm not sure that hexing the business was exactly the right thing to do there, Ingrge," she tells the weapons mage, "Although it was obvious that the goblin didn't really want to help us, he still DID answer the questions we put to him..."
There is giggling and some squealing sounding from behind the shop--the sound of children at play. One of them is proudly bouncing a shiny object off their feet (OOC: if you've ever seen kids play with a "Hacky Sack", this is similar)--
--it's Jekl, the young goblinoid who originally identified the "Blank Sickness" as what Olana is suffering from. Jekl and the three other young'uns with him are actually taking turns bopping the bauble around.

Jekl grins when the members of the party approach him.
"See? See?" he says to his playmates. "I TOLD you that the placers all liked me!" He beams up at Lian and Gunther.
"G'evenin'!" the child greets everyone. "We're havin' LOTS of fun with the shiney! Thanks SO much for it!" The little goblinoid smacks the gem up for a rather impressive lob that is just barely caught by the foot of the young troll of the kiddie group. Then Jekl turns to address Brother Bertram.
"Da Hunt? Y'mean the Grand Hunt???" he asks excitedly. "OOOO! You been invited??? OOOOO!!! C'n I come an' watch? Unka Skinner brings back LOTS of good stuff from the hunt...I wanna go see it! It's GOT to be good--even Auntie Pika gets to go!"

Vell den I guess ve must meet her. Maybe she can give me some pointers, eh?" Gunther gives the little lad another rub on the head. "Does she live far? Could you take her to us?"

The young goblinoid pouts when Lian makes his point, but he pipes right up:
"We's gets ALL kinds of goodies! Unka Skinner brings us meaty things an' my Mama makes pies and stew and yummy stuff with 'em..!"
Jekl stares at Falin.
"What's a 'pally-dun'?" he asks curiously.
The time of day translates roughly to mid-afternoon.

Falin Wednesday February 22nd, 2006 11:43:05 PM
"Do you know what a fighter is young Jekl?" Falin says to the young goblinoid. "A paladin is much like a paladin, but they have divine power too. Powers given to them by a very powerful being, a god. They usually have some type of mount. Like a horse, but not always a horse. They are fearless and will sacrifice their lives for good." Falins eyes drift a bit. As if he is recalling a happier time. The corners of his mouth curve up a bit.
He snaps back ot reality adding, "They usually wear fulll armor, but I have seen them wear hides as well."

Jekl's eyes widen as Falin explains that a paladin is like a paladin. (OOC: Did you mean to write "a paladin is like a fighter"..?) He edges away from the elven sharpshooter, the expression on the boy's face one of hearty skepticism.
Then Jekl turns to Brother Bertram.
"None of the placers that ever came-ded here were ever invited on the Hunt, Master Cleric Sir. So I never seed them at all. Ever."
Jekl catches the newest "bauble" to become a local plaything.
"Thanks ever so much, Mister...Mister...Pally-dun, Sir!" the goblinoid says enthusiastically, then races off with his friends, who are all shreiking excitedly because they can now have contests between two teams of "bauble-kickers".
"I don't know if it will yield any real results..." K'Nara answers Gunther, "...but if this 'Auntie Pika' is out back beating rugs, she's closer than the mushroom farmers, so it won't hurt to go and see her, I suppose..."

The redheaded blade singer shoots a grin Gunther's way.
"If not, perhaps our unofficial 'paladin' can sway her with his courtly charm." K'Nara adds with a chuckle.
Behind the cottage that houses the butcher's shop are a pair of posts with rope strung between them. Hanging from the rope is a sizeable rug...and smacking the bejeebers out of that rug is a female goblin--slightly portly but with a rather good double grip on the rug-beater she's currently wielding...

The orc man grins at K'nara's wit...he didn't really understand all of the words she was using, but the tinkling of her laughter was like heavenly music to his ears. Not for the first time since this encounter began does Gunther long to be some place safe, private and alone with the adorable bladesinger.
As they arrive upon the scene of Auntie's rug beating, Gunther clears his throat dramatically. "Excuse me Miss Pika. Ve vere just talking vith Jekl, and he vas telling us dat you might be able to tell us about de Great Hunt. He tells me dat you go every year... Vould you mind telling us a little bit about de Hunt?"
Tall Tales from a Small Boy - DM Donna Tuesday February 28th, 2006 12:22:36 AM
K'Nara nods her head to Ingrge, agreeing to his tactics.
The matronly gobliness turns a jaundiced eye towards Gunther, with her well-used rug beater in hand. K'Nara instinctively reaches her right hand up, ready to snatch Lucia forth in defense of her fellow Talon. However, Pika merely grunts and waves an empty about in the air.
"Pah! Jekl is addled." the female goblin says with a snort. "I don't go to any Hunt--'tis the provenance of my husband. I look after the home...he fetches forth the bounty granted by M'Lady." She turns her attention back to smacking her hanging rug.
"Pay no heed to the prattling of children, human," Pika says in a bored voice, "What they don't out-and-out lie about, they fantasize...especially Jekl."

Nodding to K'nara Ingrge quickly approaches Milo.
"Milo, do you want me to take Olanna back to the Inn? I am going back to the Inn to study and plan for ways to counter our hunters."
Milo Tuesday February 28th, 2006 8:25:21 PM
"Sounds like a good idea to me. I'm not getting much accomplished here." Gently taking Olana by the hand, Milo follows along. "Come along my love, we'll plan for this little escapade, and perhaps get some more of that peach cobbler." Milo's eyes light up at the prospect.
Falin Tuesday February 28th, 2006 9:19:30 PM
"It is getting late. Either we should made with due haste to the mushroom folks or we head back to the inn and plan on how to counter our hunters."
Gunther d20=18 d20+1=6 Tuesday February 28th, 2006 11:07:38 PM
Not willing to just accept Pika's response at face value, Gunther decides to try a little orcish charm (Cha=nat.18!). "Ma'am, please forgive me, but I've met your husband and, vell, he's not nearly as strong as you. I can't see vhat you saw in him...clearly you are stronger and more intelligent dan him by far! Surely if I a placer can see dat, den M'Lady must have long sense seen your talent and put it to goot use..." Fully turning on the charm, Gunther gives the goblin woman a little friendly back slap and then moves in close so that he is whispering near her ear. "Perhaps silly little Jekl got tings confused, but I'll bet a lovely voman like you has lots of tings she can tell us about de Hunt." He watches the woman's face, trying to see if she is lying to him (Sense Motive=lousy 6).
Turning on the Orcish Charm - DM Donna d20=12 Tuesday February 28th, 2006 11:25:42 PM
When Gunther begins comparing the strength between Pika and Skinner, the entire party can see the gobliness practically begin to preen.
"I am the iron in the family, no doubt." she readily agrees with the human. "But the closest I get to the Hunt every year is perhaps meeting my husband halfway home so that we can safely transport the meat he gets to the shop where it can be processed." She thinks for a moment, though, and adds:
"However, I've heard tales of some inn--the Wanderers' Refuge--it seems to be out there somewhere in Harrowed Moon, though I've never seen it myself. 'Tis said that any ceremonial prey that finds the Refuge is safe from the Hunt."
Gunther doesn't think that Pika is lying.
Olana Wednesday March 1st, 2006 1:00:50 AM
Milo's handkerchief becomes a big object of interest to Olana. She doesn't use it for it's intended purpose and instead makes a great deal of folding it in half, and in half again, and again, until it's so tiny. Then she let's it all unravel, and starts again. She hardly notices as the group begins to move off again, especially when she discovers that she can fold it in a triangular fashion, too.
Lian Wednesday March 1st, 2006 10:53:47 AM
"Well, this refuge seems to be place to find."
"Any ideas?"
Ingrge Wednesday March 1st, 2006 5:47:17 PM
Once back at the inn, Ingrge settles down with with a scroll and his spellbook and a bottle of wine (?) and begins to talk to himself.
Brother Bertram Wednesday March 1st, 2006 8:33:47 PM
"So not one person here has seen ANYONE return from this farce of a hunt, except possibly in the meat pot? This stinks to the lowest pits of the hells, my friends." He throws himself down to rest, his mind racing, upset, unable to focus himself.
Milo Wednesday March 1st, 2006 9:59:20 PM
Milo gently takes Olana by the hand, guiding her back to the Inn. Once there he orders another round of peach cobbler for himself and Olana, as well as tall glasses of cold milk.
Gunther Wednesday March 1st, 2006 11:31:04 PM
The warrior smiles his brightest smile at the goblinoid. "Hmmm..yes, dis place you speak of vould be very useful! Tell me strong von, vould you happen to know vat kind of people dey use during de hunt, or maybe veapons. Anyting you can tink of..." Gunther continues to question the woman, though he doubts he will find more interesting information.
More People to Visit - DM Donna Wednesday March 1st, 2006 11:50:12 PM
"I agree, Brother Bertram," K'Nara says with a nod as the Talons depart the backyard of the butcher's wife, "I don't trust that nobody has ever seen anyone who was supposed to have been invited to this Hunt." She frowns. "I should hope we have better luck at the mushroom farmers' place..."
Again the group finds themselves at a small but homey cottage--well-built though worn in places. The couple that live here are another married pair of goblins, both of them rather young.
"I'm Rendish," the male introduces himself, "And this is my wife, Teser. How can we be of service..?"
K'Nara puts forth the questions that Ingrge would likely have asked yet again, and both farmers think a bit before answering.
"Reston is a small, small village," Teser says earnestly, "So we don't truly get visitors here that often--in the last tenyear or so, only one other placer had been invited to the Hunt as ceremonial prey..."
"You mean that Lemi fellow?" Rendish asks.
"No, no--Lemi was the name of the god he followed..." Teser argues, "The man's name was Rico, or something..."
Lian Thursday March 2nd, 2006 12:17:21 PM
"Mushroom farmers... I wonder where they get their fertilizers." Grins the monk.
Later, at the farmers. "Aw, do you mean god ALEMI? Someone who followed Alemi was here?"
Brother Bertram Thursday March 2nd, 2006 9:09:36 PM
Bertram looks at Lian, "Along with all of his gear that we found no doubt."
Ingrge Thursday March 2nd, 2006 9:25:10 PM
After a bit of studying and pondering, Ingrge casts a couple of spells upon himself, though nothing apparent seems to happen. He continues to work occasionally writing down a few notes and thoughts to discuss with the others.
He Said, She Said - DM Donna Friday March 3rd, 2006 12:04:23 AM
"Alemi, right..!" Rendish nods, but then frowns at Teser. "No, the placer's name was Montigo, wasn't it? Wore that brilliant set of armor..?"
"The placer's LAST name was Montague, but his armor surely did shine." Teser counters. "He was positively amazed at the village--you'd think he'd never seen goblins and trolls before."
"He DID look like he'd thought that Bonecrusher was going to rip his head off..." Rendish agrees, adding: "...he was very dreamy and starry-eyed when Lady Fidelia invited him to the Hunt."
"No, no--" Teser shakes her head, "--Lady Fidelia didn't invite him to the Hunt, the Sheriff did! He wanted to see M'Lady, but the Sheriff said he was invited to be the ceremonial prey."
"Oh, right..!" Rendish nods. "But he set off for the Twilight Palace himself--never saw him after that, though..."
Gunther Friday March 3rd, 2006 12:09:04 AM
Hanging back, Gunther slowly breaks out into a sweat as the two mushroom farmers begin to tell the tale of the paladin from the journal.
Olana Friday March 3rd, 2006 12:26:22 AM
Assuming Olana's at the mushroom farmers.
Olana holds Milo's hand tightly. "Butcher," she says after the goblin's 'ceremonial prey' sentence. Probably confused with the last place they went to.
Falin Friday March 3rd, 2006 1:04:59 AM
Falin bows his head and shakes it back and forth slowly. "Well, we know that we have to go to this hunt. We will just have to be well prepared for it."
Lian Friday March 3rd, 2006 10:59:28 AM
Looking at Falin. "Easier said than done my friend. What can we expect? Letsee. Skulls, thats obvious. The best tracker and her minions, oops, I mean deputies, following our every move. No way to ...." He trails off.
Then something dawns on the monk, thinking. "If we fly..." He ponders. "... can we still be tracked?" He mentions this to Ingrge and K'nara when they are away from the goblins.
"I think if we can remain hidden...., like with that rope trick or in some magical space, we should be fine. I mean the Secret Inn is safe, but can the Sheriff track us on the other planes?!" He smiles. "Maybe the Inn is in the Ethereal or something."
Ingrge Friday March 3rd, 2006 7:05:11 PM
Continuing to talk to himself and jot down a few things, Ingrge continues to keep working.
(Donna, let me know just how much time I have before it is bed time. I wouldlike to figure out if I have enough time to scribe a few low level scrolls)
More to Say - DM Donna Saturday March 4th, 2006 11:42:37 AM
Teser bobs her head at her husband's latest comment.
"True, never saw him again--I always thought that the Collector got the poor fella, but nobody else seems to agree with me." she says.
"Now, sweetie-kins," Rendish objects, "I didn't say that I didn't agree with you--it's just that the shiny guy seemed a little too clever to fall into the Collector's hands..." Here the male goblin shudders and then thinks to explain to the group: "The Collector is a bit of a myth around here (nasty little man according to the stories)--only most of us are certain he truly exists. Every once in a while there's been cases where someone here or (supposedly) at another village got fed up with the work we do and they set off to the Twilight Palace to complain. I CAN tell you for sure that none of them EVER come back."
"Started hearing stories about how the Collector intercepts anyone who wants to complain before they get to see M'Lady." Teser adds. "Indeed, whenever we inquired after whomever disappeared on those occasions when M'Lady makes an appearance, she isn't even aware that the missing persons were on their way to see her...poor thing."
K'Nara ponders this new information and then Lian's suggestion.
"Olana told me once that anything can be tracked...it's merely whether or not the tracker knows how to look for it." the blade singer tells the monk. "However, it is harder for something that flies to be tracked by someone on the ground...hmmm...we should see if we can come up with something that can utilize your idea..."
Ingrge calculates that it is the Woldian equivalent of about maybe three o'clock in the afternoon.
Lian Sunday March 5th, 2006 10:21:20 AM
"Everlasting Night. Skulls. Sheriffs and deputies. Mysterious disappearances of Placers. Mysterious Lady. Hidden safe houses. Now this Collector." The monk sighs. "I know I'm going to regret this... what does he 'collect'?"
"Horrowed Moon. Charming place."
Brother Bertram Sunday March 5th, 2006 6:37:40 PM
Bertram mutters, "Souls...., blood..., food.... Whats the difference? And whats to say the sheriff isnt this 'Collector'?"
Olana Monday March 6th, 2006 1:13:43 AM
Olana starts to bob her head, just like Teser.
Lian Monday March 6th, 2006 11:02:57 AM
He waits for his answer, shrugging in the direction of Bertram.
Gunther Monday March 6th, 2006 5:14:48 PM
Looking a wee bit shaky, Gunther begins to pace as the Talons continue their inquiry.
Milo Monday March 6th, 2006 8:15:33 PM
Milo remains steadfastly calm throughout the conversation, though a sinking feeling seems to be deepening in the pit of his stomach.
Ingrge Monday March 6th, 2006 8:25:22 PM
Working diligently, Ingrge starts scribing a few scrolls.
Parting Words of Wisdom - DM Donna Tuesday March 7th, 2006 12:50:46 AM
Rendish and Teser are suddenly reminded that they are speaking to people who don't like being ceremonial prey in the Grand Hunt, and both hastily cobble together a very rough map of the area. They make sure to point out patches of terrain that might prove to bog down the hounds that will likely be used for the Hunt.
"All in all," the goblin couple seem to agree on this one point, "Your best bet is to make for M'Lady's Twilight Palace--the area around it is actually a bit swampy and will be slow going for hounds...and the tradition is that, should you make it inside the palace, the Hunt is over and you've won by default. However, M'Lady has VERY tight security about her home, so we hear--so be VERY careful!"
Falin Tuesday March 7th, 2006 4:01:42 AM
"Well, that information is greatly appreciated." He smiles and thanks the kind goblins.
To the other when they have walked off a bit. "I have some ideas that might prove fruitful, but I would rather we talk about it back at the Inn and privately. It might not really be more private, but it will make me feel better."
Brother Bertram Tuesday March 7th, 2006 4:08:07 AM
Bertram studies the map intently, memorizing it as much as possible before they have to leave.
Lian Tuesday March 7th, 2006 11:15:59 AM
"Seems to get out of the pan, we have to jump into the fire." He states plain.
He prepares to leave, praying to Domi for help, even though his God isn't near.
Olana Tuesday March 7th, 2006 1:23:59 PM
After an initial interest, Olana's eyes move away from the map making, perhaps because it is hard for her senses to comprehend. Sounds, regardless of their meaning, are easier to recognise and replicate. "Fruitful," she says at one point. "Fruit. Hahahaha."
Gunther Tuesday March 7th, 2006 10:33:57 PM
Wiping the sweat from his brow, Gunther pays close attention. "Yeah...swamps. Palace...yeah goot."
Milo Wednesday March 8th, 2006 12:11:30 AM
Milo perks up at the last statement, "Tight security huh?" Grinning fiendishly, "That happens to be my specialty." Then looking around at his friends, "We've got this." The halfling rogue seems supremely confident at their chances. "If any of you have spells or abilities that you can employ to pass unnoticed, I'd recommend preparing those... in abundance."
One Last Thing - DM Donna Wednesday March 8th, 2006 12:30:25 AM
As the Talons make their way out of the couple's home, Teser snaps her fingers and waves a hand.
"Oooo...oh! Almost forgot--don't even think about trying to take refuge in another village or to even come back here...I know for a fact that the designated Hunters are authorized to attack any citizen fraternizing with the prey. An aunt of mine in the village north of the Crystal Forest had stopped to give directions to a placer being hunted and she was nearly trampled to death by the Hunting Party. Took her nearly four months to fully recover..."
Brother Bertram Wednesday March 8th, 2006 4:02:52 AM
"And if they do that to anyone helping.....You can imagine what they do to the prey. Just more proof of what occurs."
Lian Wednesday March 8th, 2006 1:37:06 PM
"Shall we depart then, friends?"
Gunther Wednesday March 8th, 2006 3:27:37 PM
The warrior looks over at Brother Bertram, trying his best to look and sound brave. "Dat's vat dey tink. But dey don't know us to vell, huh? I'll bet K'nara and Ingrge got a few suprises up their sleeves." Gunther winks at K'nara and takes a step closer to the bladesinger's side, as if the mere closeness of her body provides all the reassurance he needs.
DM Donna Wednesday March 8th, 2006 10:54:33 PM
I know I have more than three players who can post...::glare, glare::
Olana Wednesday March 8th, 2006 11:25:09 PM
Olana continues to watch, listen, and understand nothing.
Falin Thursday March 9th, 2006 12:00:09 AM
Falin nods in agreement to Gunthers comment.
Brother Bertram Thursday March 9th, 2006 4:02:42 AM
"So it sounds like, The Lady may or may not be the problem, but the sheriff has to die, yes? And is there any rule against us starting the hunt early?"
Lian Thursday March 9th, 2006 9:50:01 AM
Lian waits.
Ingrge Thursday March 9th, 2006 5:21:11 PM
Finished with his plotting and scribing it is now 9pm where he is.
Milo Thursday March 9th, 2006 9:20:11 PM
Milo sits quietly, ruminating over possible tactics they might take over the course of the hunt.
Caution Children At Play - DM Donna Thursday March 9th, 2006 11:49:51 PM
The mushroom farmers wish the party luck and the Talons make their way back across the village, passing (once again) the butcher's house and the small group of children at play nearby.
This time the children seem to be engaging in one of those singing/rhyming games that involve clapping their hands together as they chime:
The eve of the Hunt she never sleeps... What M'Lady finds she keeps. Guests are best, She just arrests. Play the game, Pass the tests. Run! Pursue! Run! Pursue! She lets them go, They won't have to stew. On Fidelia's birthday Hunt... Fidelia's birthday Hunt!
Lian Friday March 10th, 2006 9:09:19 AM
"Cheerful bunch."
Brother Bertram Friday March 10th, 2006 2:03:51 PM
Bertram snorts at Lian's comment, "Like she would spread a song around telling how she likes dwarf IN a stew."
K'Nara d20=10 Friday March 10th, 2006 2:13:03 PM
The blade singer frowns at the singsong verse.
"Why is it that I have this nagging feeling that there are clues and hints in front of us about the obvious ulterior motives of M'Lady...and yet I just cannot SEE them..?" she voices her concern.
OOC: I just rolled an Intelligence check for K'Nara, and I ask the other PCs to do the same, even those who have posted already (except for Olana, whose character doesn't care.)
Falin d20+2=21 Sunday March 12th, 2006 7:03:37 AM
OOC: Int roll of 21
Falin looks up for a moment as if caught in thought. His forhead creased with thought.
Gunther d20+1=3 Sunday March 12th, 2006 8:01:11 PM
Gunther shrugs his shoulders at K'nara's statement. "It's just a child's song. It may not mean anyting." (Int.=3)
Olana Sunday March 12th, 2006 10:17:51 PM
Olana seems content to hum along with the tune, getting it wrong on more than one occasion.
Lian Monday March 13th, 2006 10:56:05 AM
"Umm, well Gunther, things here are hard to sense."
Milo d20+1=21 Monday March 13th, 2006 11:47:57 PM
Milo listens carefully to the song, attempting to memorize it, even as he analyzes the verse for clues.
(OOC: Int check DC 21)
Out of the Mouths of Babes - DM Donna Tuesday March 14th, 2006 12:18:13 AM
OOC: the roll needed to even recall all the clues was a natural 20...which Milo got. So:
Milo begins to review in his head all the things that they know so far about Harrowed Moon and its residents:
1) It's always night here, whether or not the moon is out. 2) Lady Fidelia charms everyone she meets...none of the residents can speak ill of her. 3) There's an annual Birthday Hunt in which humans are not allowed to be hurt/killed. 4) The childrens' song says Lady Fidelia doesn't sleep on the night of the Hunt. 5) The childrens' song also says that whatever Lady Fidelia finds, she keeps.
Milo's quick halfling brain adds up all these clues and comes up with a disturbing couple of questions:
What is it that only comes out at night and prefers to have living human prey..? Something with the inhuman stamina to stalk its food all night long..?
Falin Tuesday March 14th, 2006 8:07:12 AM
"So, what your saying is we are going to be up against a Vampire?" Falin shakes his head slowly back and forth. "We I guess we have a better idea of what to prepare for now, huh? Does anyone know anything about fighting Vampires? I only know the basic stuff. Like sunlight and holy water. Other than that I am useless."
Lian d20+9=28 d20+19=39 Tuesday March 14th, 2006 10:16:09 AM
Lian's smiles levels his face. "Vampires. She is a vampire... WONDERFUL!" The monk is getting agitated. "You know how fast and deadly those are?! And she leads this bunch? The sheriff, Amalee is likely a lower guardian of this Fidelia, isn't she? What sorts of beasts watch over vampires? We still have no idea about this Collecto person, other than the fact he's a really nasty bloak." He thinks for only a minute.
"Lets put this together. The Lady Fidelia is a vampire, most likely powerful and old. She saves the humans for meals and doesn't have a taste for other races, killing the rest or allows her Enforcer to kill the rest for sport. The best tracker in the realm works well at night... has deputies... a group.... a, a pack.
Hang on!"
The math is adding up for Lian. "Werewolves makes most sense! A pack of werewolves? Trackers with a sense of smell. Great! Geez, the sheriff likely adds to her numbers and feed on the rest! The moon is out all the time here.
Is it full on the Hunt??
I hate this place more and more." He finishes, beginning to pace, wide eyes darting around. The elf's senses are quite attune today. (Spot 28, Listen 39)
Milo Tuesday March 14th, 2006 7:59:58 PM
As Milo ticks the facts off on his fingers one by one, his demeanor becomes more and more somber. "I'm not sure I like the sound of this."
Ingrge Tuesday March 14th, 2006 9:27:36 PM
when finished Ingrge goes to bed.
