Angus - mage armor Wednesday February 15th, 2006 6:32:32 AM
Angus is happy to be outside the gate and on the concecrated ground. "Ok the horse is fine Lang. Lets move over to the stream and Belkior can cast his next concecrate ground."
Once over by the stream Angus announces. "Belkior and I have the first watch, so that we can sleep and recover our spells. Lets follow up with Syr and Famina, then Lang and Ashlan. Xenia and Wynn can watch the sunrise together. Belkior make sure everyone is close to being fixed up, or close enough that a good night sleep can't fix. Sleep well everyone and very lightly as there are still nasties out there."
Xenia Wednesday February 15th, 2006 10:03:13 AM
"Pricey stuff, Angus," Xenia replies. "Really ugly. But pricey. Nice gems."
The rogue walks in a contemplative silence, swinging along next to her most favorite and handsome guy.
When she finally does speak, she says, "Hey, anybody who knows something about magic and symbols and stuff wanna take a look at these necklace things? I mean, what's a vampire doing with expensive stuff like this for anyway? It's not like they're Fashion Animals or anything. I mean, look at the way they were dressed. Eww. And each one of them had one of these necklace things. One each. Doesn't anyone else think that's kinda weird?"
She hooks her arm through Wynn's. "Sure, Angus. We'll take that watch," she says, then leans in to whisper into Wynn's ear.
"That way we can keep an eye on Scorpion Boy too."

The halfling cleric joins in the general procession towards the gate.
"Xenia's correct, I blessed the area outside the gate."
Once they arrive at the gate, Belkior will make a point of showing his companions the boundaries of the area that he consecrated.
"Here, you can see how the sun reflects off the silver powder that I sprinkled. The area is forty feet across and that should be more than enough room for everyone to stay within. Once the sun goes down, no one should go outside the boundaries of the spell."
Calling upon his training in the seminary, the Healer continues.
"Those four things were just the servants of the main vampire. That foul thing will be tougher, harder to damage and more dangerous than those four. Maybe even the four together. My spell will weaken it, a little anyway, but won't stop it."
"If the vampire shows up, I can protect one of you from the worst of it's effects. I've got some spells that will hurt the thing, even if I have to use healing spells to do it."
"If we have to fight it, try not to look at it's eyes. A vampire can control someone by looking them in the eye and it's tough to resist. Angus, Syr and I are probably going to be the most resistant to that power because of the discipline that our study requires."
"Oh, and a full vampire can summon and control creatures, too. Rats, bats and wolves. What's worse, it can turn into those things also."
After making his lecture, Belkior will go over to Lang and heal the ranger, using however many charges needed from the wands. Eventually, the ranger is nearly completely healed.
Once night comes, Belkior will sit close to the fire with Angus.
"Let's sit back to back, Angus. If the thign comes during our watch, we need to be ready. There's no point my attempting to turn the vampire. And, no matter what it says, we don't try to negotiate. We just kill it."
Thinking for a moment before his companions go to sleep, the cleric calls out to whoever is holding the necklaces.
"Angus or Wynn? Does one of you have a Detect Magic spell handy? It's suspicious that each of the spawn had a nearly identical necklace."

Syr looks down at the weapons in his hand as if seeing them for the first time at Ashlan's comments defending himself. "No hard feelings, with a teammate like Belkior backing me up, it's a good thing that I didn't have to put you down for good. Besides, I did leave some bruises for you as a reminder." with a small grin he adds, " I'd be willing to wager on a fair fight when things are less busy."
He takes the weapon from his belt and causually hands them back to Ashlan with trust.
Hearing the watch assignments he complains to Famina, "Aww, I hate the middle watch, I never seem to be completely rested when stuck in the middle."

His stomach finally settled, Wynn takes out his waterskin and spends a few moments cleaning the foul taste of vomit from his mouth. "Im feeling better, thanks Xenia".
He then casts detect magic on the necklaces recovered by Xenia and the others. If he detects any magic about them he will study them further to determine the strength and the nature of the magic. [Spellcraft=17] Otherwise he relies on his past experience and any lore passed down about such gaudy jewellery [Bardic knowledge=28 (nat 20)]to determine their history.

Angus was getting ready to cast detect magic, but his friend beat him too it. Angus watches how the bard performs his spell and nods his head in approval. Angus also inspects the pieces with his trained eye (acrane knowledge 18, spellcraft 18).
DM Matt C. Wednesday February 15th, 2006 10:47:39 PM
Is the group camping outside the gate or are they moving back onto the plantation grounds and moving down by the stream (per Angus's post)?
Right now you are outside the gate. You know it will take 10 minutes or so to get back to the stream/mill area. Darkness is not much more than 10 minutes away.
Lang & Sunshine Wednesday February 15th, 2006 11:06:09 PM
Lang moves the cart and the horse onto the consecrated ground. He is grateful for Belkior for the healing magic of Alemi. His wounds disappear accept for a hangnail on one finger (79/80).
"Angus, do I hook up the horse to the cart or should I prepare him for bedding down here for the night."
DM Matt C. Wednesday February 15th, 2006 11:13:11 PM
The Shields assemble on the consecrated ground and further discuss where to camp for the night. Where to bed down for the night is narrowed down to two places. Stay here on the consecrated ground or move back onto the plantation grounds and camp down by the stream. Angus assigns the night watch arrangement.
Xenia compares the three new necklaces to the one she found first. She thinks they too are worth at least 1,000 gold pieces. She hands them to Wynn and he casts detect magic on them and finds out that they are not magic. He studies them and tries to see if they relate to any story that he has heard in his past. He can think of none and hands them back to Xenia, commenting that they are valuable, but not valuable enough to have any tales about.
The scholar in Belkior comes out as he warns the Shields of the power of a Vampire as compared to the creatures they just fought.
Syr shows faith and trust in one of the newest members of the Shields by handing back to Ashlan his weapons.
More to come once I find out where you are camping.
Ashlan Wednesday February 15th, 2006 11:14:01 PM
Ashlan looks to Syr and nods as he takes his main weapons back from him, "Thank you and once again I am sorry for the attack back there. I wish I could of kept my mind free from that vampire spawn but it's will was stronger then mine."
Ashlan sheathes his weapons and sits down away from the group, looking to the sky as before pulling out his harmonica and speaks before playing a light tune back from when he was growing up on a farm like the plantation here, "I do not mind taking the watch with Lang, just let me know when it is time and I will be ready."

Famina Thursday February 16th, 2006 1:37:57 AM
"Thank you, servant of Alemi," Famina warmly responds to Belkior's use of the wands. She feels, and looks, a lot better, especially as she gains her breath back. "I have a feeling no matter where we go we'll see the one you're speaking of later tonight..." Famina worries about that. The idea of becoming a vampire is too awful to think of.. As the others quiet down and Syr comments idly about his complaints of the watch, she agrees, then tentatively explains her fears to him. "I guess I'm not good at night watches either...and the idea that out there is something wanting to eat me worries me. We should be hunting it, I almost feel, yet common sense states we should wait till daylight... But we all know he'll attack us anyways. I just hope he doesn't turn us into vampires if he does beat us. I'd rather die..."
Angus - Mage armor Thursday February 16th, 2006 8:42:57 AM
Angus sees his friends get all healed up by Belkior and watches Lang take care of the horse. At Lang's question, Angus answers "Get the horse ready to bed down. Leave him in the concecrated ground, but free to flee if he must."
Angus looks to the other Sheilds "Lets move out down by the stream. Belkior can cast his second concecrate to get us through the night. Lets move it; we are burning daylight." Angus looks at the dying sun and reflects at how much he will miss it.
Once at the new site by the stream, Angus asks Lang to prepare a fire. "Hey big guy, see if you can get us a roaring fire going for dinner and protection."
Angus settles down to take the first watch with Belkior and talks spell strategy for the coming battle.

Xenia frowns as the tests on the four necklaces come up negative.
Wee-erd ...
"So, what you're saying, Belkie, is that what we got here is, like, Minions. Right?"
The rogue walks along next to Wynn as the group moves out. Her eyes are peeled for trouble. But, you know, girls can walk and talk at the same time too. Why do they do it, though? Because they can.
"And what probs is lurking around here somewhere is a Master, who maybe likes handing out gaudy jewelry to his lackeys. Right? Maybe it's like a Gang or a Club, you know. Wear one of these necklaces and everyone knows you're with the Vampie gang." With a shake of her, she stows the four pieces of jewelry in her haversack.
"Weird. Vampie gangs," the rogue mutters to herself.
"Hey, Belkie, is it true what they say about vampies and mirrors?" She whips a rectangular steel mirror from out of her pack. "I go this here!" She whips it around to different points of the compass as though firing a weapon.

As the halfing cleric moves through the thick grass with his companions, he listens to Xenia's questions with only partial attention. When you're not but three feet tall, tall grass and uneven ground are more than simply an annoyance.
"Sure, Xenia. Mirrors are supposed to repel them. Just like garlic or holy symbols. Fortunately or not, we Shepherds don't have symbols. We just have to have our hands free."
After the Shields arrive at their camping site, Belkior takes the time to carefully mark out the boundaries of the area that he will protect with his Consecrate spell.
"Famina? Ashalan? Can you help stomp down the grass so that I can mark out some outlines for this spell?"
Once that is completed, Belkior will take a bag of silver dust and one of his last flasks of holy water from his pouches and pack. Invoking a prayer to Alemi, he sprinkles the materials about the area.
"There, we should be good until morning. Remember, stay inside the area that we've marked - if the master comes, it will be weaker inside the circle. Don't look at it, if you can help. Don't listen to it either."
After thinking for a moment, Belkior continues.
"Ahhh, the master is very likely capable of soem tricks too. It might even be able to cast spells, so watch out for that."
Finally, Belkior settles down with Angus by the fire to watch.

Wynn Thursday February 16th, 2006 5:42:31 PM
The bard makes his way back towards the stream, half paying attention to Xenia's nervous banter. "Perhaps", he replies to her, "perhaps they were all family and the jewellery is like a family crest of sorts."
Once Belkior has consecrated their campsite he scouts out lines of fire, points of egress, and such. In particular he mentally maps out the easiest way to the stream and the location of a deeper pool of running water. A plan begins forming in his mind, one that takes advantage of the gills on his neck and his newly granted ability to remain underwater...Perhaps their was some reason to the Knot of Druiss after all.
DM Matt C. d4=1 3d6(4+2+5)=11 Thursday February 16th, 2006 11:09:34 PM
The Shields figure any advantage they have against undead they should try to use, so they decide to camp near the water. Lang loosely stakes the horse within the consecrated area. The group then hustles back onto the plantation grounds and heads for the stream area. They make it there without any problems and decide to camp near the spring and the woodshed. This will provide them with a supply of firewood and keep them close to deep, running water. Belkior casts his second Consecrate spell, covering a 40' circle that includes some of the pond, stream and woodshed.
On the map the Consecrate will cover from cell AA9 to AD12. Thus including half the pond, some of the spring and most of the woodshed.
Lang goes into the woodshed a few times and comes out with large armfuls of wood. He asks the rest of the group to build a firepit in the middle of the Consecrate area. It is dark now, but it does not seem to bother the big Bugbear as he builds the campfire. Soon there is a roaring fire and a meal being prepared. When the height of the fire peaks, the side of the estate can be seen. The shadows dance across the side of the home as the fire grows and shrinks in height. Everyone is watchful, but nothing happens during dinner and the first hour of darkness.
The meal is over, the group has cleaned up from it and is starting to settle down for the night. Belkior and Angus grab a few logs near the fire and sit down to discuss spell selection and strategy, ever mindful of the undead that may be out there. The rest of the Shields lay out their bedrolls and start to get some sleep.
The first watch is barely a quarter over when howling can be heard in the distance. Angus and Belkior stop talking to listen. The howling stops for a moment or two and then starts up again. Even the two spell users who have spent most of there days indoors studying can tell that whatever is making the noise is getting closer. As the volume of the noise increases the rest of the Shields start to wake up.

There is a brief twinge of regret before leaving the comforting warmth of Wynn's side. But with a quick squirm, the rogue twists out of the bedroll. All ears and eyes, her green elven sight searches the moonlit night in all directions.
Into her hand springs a shortbow as she scrambles the few feet to crouch near Angus and Belkior.

I hope the horse used it good sense to get out of the area." Lang tires to get a sense of what the group is up against by the sound of the creatures (K. Nature 7, nat. 1), but was not listening well. The Shields wake up and get geared up for a fight. They spread out around the fire and Xenia takes to the high ground of the woodshed.
Lang tosses a magically lit log towards the manor home. It lands 15 or so feet away from it into the tall grass. It helps light up the area, but not as fully as the spell intends. It also creates its own shadows and does not reveal any creatures.
The Shields wait for what seems like an eternity, but is in fact only a few minutes before the howling starts up again. Only this time it is all around them. All of a sudden the noise starts to get closer and the Shields can see the grass moving from all directions (I am assuming everyone is looking both towards the home and also out away from the square they are in).
The movement gets closer to the Shields and all of a sudden out of the grass, wolves jump and attack the Shields. The come in from all sides and at least one on every member of the Shields (11 total; three from between the woodshed and pond, 3 from jumping over the stream and 5 from the back of the woodshed).

Ashlan frowns as he is not a missile fire person and readies his longsword and kukri as he breathes in deeply and prepares for the coming wolves, glancing to Lang, "Well, guess if their not tainted in some way we have food coming to us." Ashlan figures Lang being a ranger will chuckle or understand his comment better then the others.

Lang watches the moving grasses and catches glimpes of a Wolf. Lang put two arrow in his mighty bow and bends it, takes careful aim, and lets fly both shafts.
The dancing light almost fooled Lang but his arrows both find their mark.

Edit: Lang will drop his bow as a free action so that he does not take too many actions.
DM - Lang shoots as his standard action and drops his bow as a free action. He is not able to draw his shortswords yet.
Isn't drawing weapons a free action for Lang, and charactrers get as many free actions they want?
DM - Yes, it would be if they have Quick Draw feat. Yes, it would be if you combine it with a move action. Lang does not have a move action this round after already using his standard action.

Rustling grass. Alright. Where's the most rustling coming from?

Still staring into the darkness, he mumbles a thanks to the halfling, "This feels different from Angus' protection." Looking up at Xenia's height advantage, he wishes Angus had joined the rogue up there. As the wolves approach, Syr tenses for combat and "Hey Belkie, do vampires have control over wolves or do we have to worry about a new threat?"
Famina (AC 21, hp 84/84) Tuesday February 21st, 2006 11:28:22 PM
Famina tosses the torch ahead her as the wolves come. (Around AD 10/4 or so) Should provide some more light on that side of the camp. She also steps a little forward, making herself more of a target. (Moving to AD 10/3) Also, this should allow Lang to move up from the woodshed side if he wants, and Ashlan to come to her side. All around good.

CR #1:
The wolves meet stiff resistance as they enter into the Shields campsite. Magic and missile combat is able to repel some of the invaders, but many slip through to attack the Shields.
Wynn launches an arrow and solidly hits Wolf 1 (W1) for 10 points of damage. It lands and tries to bite Wynn, but it snaps at air as the pain from the arrow throws off its attack (in square AB9.3; nat 1).
W2 starts to jump over the stream and is met by a Scorching Ray from Angus. It is instantly singed to death and lands in the stream. Angus's second Scorching Ray is not as accurate as W3 is a little slower and Angus had to aim into the grass. W3 lands on the Shields side of the stream and snaps at Belkior, but the halflings armor protects him (in square AC9.2; hit ac 18). Even with the Wolves around him, the little cleric is able to cast his spell upon Syr.
W4, W5 & W6 try to slip through the small area between the pond and the woodshed. Two are successful and one is met by a Manyshot attack from Lang. The remaining two wolves bite at Sunshine, but the dog's armor protects him like it protected Belkior (in squares AB10.1 & AB10.3; hit ac 17 & 21).
Xenia tosses a fireball bead at wolves W7, W8, W9, W10 and W11 that are entering the camp from between the woodshed and the mill. All on that side are able to see the resulting blast envelop 4 of the wolves and also set the grass on fire. Three appear to nimbly evade the bulk of the blast damage. One takes the bead head on and loses that battle.
Injured wolf W7 takes a bite at the advancing Famina, but the fireball has obviously affected the creatures aim (in square AD10.4; hit ac 5).
OOC - Famina you make it to AD10.3 before the wolf attacks.
A Wolf finally lands a blow for the bad guys, as W8 takes a bite out of Ashlan's leg (in square AD10.1; hit ac 23; damage 7).
The last two wolves, W9 & W10 nip at Syr with one landing a minor bite wound (in squares AD9.1 & AD9.3; hit ac 12 & 21; damage 3).

The halfling cleric looks around the campsite, trying to determine how much danger the Shields are in. A blur of movement atop the woodshed catches Belkior's eye. Xenia was up there ...
"Hey! The vampire's up there with Xenia!"
The little cleric steps away from the wolf attacking him, just far enough to avoid it's snapping teeth. Then he mutters a prayer to Alemi and gestures towards the vampire atop the woodshed. A searing beam of light stabs out through the darkness towards the foul undead. Note - I realize there's a 50/50 chance of hitting Xenia, but not sure what method you use in this case
"The vampire controls these wolves - we'll have to kill her to break the control!"
Belkior turns back to the wolf that is threatening him, ready to meet it's next attack.

Lang slips on some logs by the fire and just stops himself from falling in by stabbing a short sword into the ground right next to one of the snarling wolves (AC 15, but nat. 1).
Sunshine is all teeth and barks and lunges at wolf 5, but misses (AC 12) as he is torn wheather to attack the wolf or help Lang out of the fire.

Xenia reaches behind herself for a weapon. Shortsword? Light Mace? Spiked Chain?!?!

End CR#1:
The Shields fight back. Fight back hard.
Belkior is the first Shield to notice something wrong up on top of the woodshed. He sees a dark, savage creature attacking Xenia. Ignoring the wolf biting at him, he casts a spell at the Vampire scoring a solid hit (-8 to roll; -4 for firing into combat and -4 for cover; see page 151 of PHB).
Angus hears Belkior's cry of Vampire and sees him cast a spell in Xenia's direction. He quickly casts his own spell at W3 and is delighted to see the animal slump to the ground.
Lang & Sunshine try their hardest to attack the two wolves, but the tight area around the campfire and woodshed proves to be their undoing. Lang almost falls into the campfire and in doing so singes the fur on his backside (1 point of damage).
Xenia, on the verge of panic when she feels the undead's cold grasp, regains her senses and shouts a warning to the Shields below. Her handy backpack provides a temporary means of keeping the vampire at bay from her as she brandishes it like it is the mightiest holy sword in the entire Wold.
Syr, fearing for Xenia, strikes with his ever effective fists at W10. The animal staggers, but remains upright. He then moves towards the woodshed ending up in AC10.4
Ashlan, Famina and Wynn are in such complete shock and horror from the vampire, that they are unable to attack the wolves.
Start CR#2 Now it is the wolves turn for some fun. Unfortunately, having their boss leering over their shoulders is proving quite distracting to the them.
Wolf W1 bites at Wynn and misses (hit AC 9). Wolf W4 bites at Sunshine and misses (hit AC 19). Wolf W5 bites at Lang and misses (hit AC 18). Wolf W7 bites at Famina and misses (hit AC 5). Wolf W8 bites at Ashlan and takes another chunk out of his leg. (hit AC 21 for 4 damage). Wolves W9 and W10 bite at Syr and are unsuccessful (hit AC 7 & 16).
The Vampire seeks out the individual who blasted her with the magic light. Focusing her dreadful gaze on Belkior, she tries to drive all the willpower out of the little cleric and force her own will upon him. The Vampire then moves away from that mean and nasty elf with the mirror back over the peak of the woodshed and out of sight.
Belkior will save DC 19 or be Dominated to run towards the manor house.

Famina keeps calm and casually begins to dismember the wolves. First she moves (5' step) so that she can strike two wolves at a time. (I guess between ashlan's and her wolf) "Hyiiee!!" she shouts wildly, slashing deep into the first one, then, "RuaH!!" she cries again, bringing her blade wisping back right into the second one's neck, nearly severing its head with one stroke. (First hits AC 25, second is a crit natural 20 AC 26 confirmed against AC 18. I think I'm attacking W7 and W8. I did 9 to the first one, knocking him out, and 15 to the second one. Apologies for not tending to the Map yesterday. I was out of the office.
Here's the Map as of the Beginning of this round. From what I see from this round:
W1 may now be gone Faminia may be in a different position, though I think she can strike two wolves at the same time from where she's at. Angus may or may not have moved. Xenia has moved 5 feet to the south to the peak of the roof.
Matt, I think we have a small problem with the scale of the Woodshed. The map shows it as 20x20 rather than 40x40.
DM - Yes it is 20 by 20. I wrote it wrong before as 40 by 40. Map has it in the correct size/place.

The battle continues as the Shields gain the upperhand.
Wynn improvises with his arrow and jabs the wolf W1 in the face with it. The animal slumps to the ground from its wounds. He shouts out for help for Xenia.
Famina with two quick swings or her weapon is able to eliminate 2 more wolves (W7 & W8).
Belkior is able to resist submitting to the Vampires' will, barely. He breathes a sigh of relief and casts the spell Bless. He also prepares to use his healing power on any injured Shield.
Angus cries out to the Shields to push through the wolves and pursue the Vampire.
Lang & Sunshine make up for the feeble attacks last round by killing one wolf W5 and severely injuring another wolf W4.
Xenia shouts out her plan on trying to locate the Vampire. She creeps up to the peak of the woodshed and looks down on the other side. She can barely make out the back of the Vampire before it has disappeared into the darkness outside her vision.
Syr moves towards the woodshed to climb the rope and help Xenia out. He draws an AoO from Wolves W9 & W10 as he leaves (hit AC's 9 & 18 for 2 points of damage). He squeezes by Ashlan and makes it to the rope and starts his climb, ending the round on the roof spot just vacated by Xenia.

"Hi, Syr." The rogue reaches back to stow the mirror. She nocks an arrow, and, from the very peak of the roof, she surveys the area for any attackers.

Angus - Mage Armor Friday February 24th, 2006 8:35:36 AM
Angus is mad at the whole situation. The wolves are being dealt with, but the vampire got away. "We got trouble people. Do we follow the beast into its lair and we must assume there are still two left or do we withdraw. By the time we catch up with the creature it will have cured itself from the damage Belkior gave it. I am almost out of spells and so it Belkior. If we push we must move now."
Angus pulls out his dagger as it may come down to that and kills an unconcious wolf. "No need in having them come after us later."

Xenia (2nd Illegal Post) Friday February 24th, 2006 9:29:51 AM
"I say we stick with the plan, Angus." Still searching the night around the mill and their blazing bonfire, Xenia speaks in even measured words.
"Rest. Recover. Wake up in the morning and off more of them."
"When you think about it, time is on our side. Even if the one vampire gets healed all the way up, the advantage we got in daylight is so huge we can't afford not to use it. Not to mention you and Belkie getting your spells back."
"Our job is to look this place over and see if it's safe for the kids. Right? If there's so many vampires that they can come at us all night. Or if they can trek out of here and bring in reinforcements from outside the farm, then I'd say phooey on this farm. We got our answer already. We could never be sure the kids would be safe here. Ever."
"We go back to Plateau City and tell Ashbeard that it's not just their farm they have to worry about. Plateau City has an undead problem. We take our kids back to the Float. End of story."
Angus (Second Illegal Post) Friday February 24th, 2006 9:48:11 AM
Angus looks up at Xenia "My only problem is that we still have 6 hours our darkness. There is no reason that the vampires and more friends may not come back in 15 minutes. We killed the wolves, but used up more precious resources. The concecrated ground is nice but not pure protection. I am for staying also, but I am unsure we will get much rest."
Angus has a worried look on his face as the balance of the wolves are dispatched. Angus is looking off into the darkness toward the manor house.
Xenia (3rd Illegal Post) Friday February 24th, 2006 10:10:57 AM
"Yeah. I understand how you're worried about that. But the way I see it, we can barely find this one. She's out there somewhere, and even I'm having trouble seeing her."
"We're on their territory. I mean, think about the cotton field. And the grass. Who knows what other stuff like that is out there? They know it. We don't. They could lead us around by the nose. Take us into any place they want."
"If you're worried about more coming, then I say we leave. Pull back outside the gate. Someplace where we can see them coming from a distance away."
"Personally, I think we did pretty good just now." The rogue runs the past couple of battles through her mind. "You notice what they're doing? They're using high places where we can't get at them so easily. Then they're taking that and trying to get us to fight each other."
"Nah. They ain't dumb. I think running off into the dark, weak, and on their ground is a bad idea."
Famina d20+11=23 d8=5 Friday February 24th, 2006 1:01:57 PM
Famina moves in and takes another swing at one more wolf. "Hyah!" (Hits AC 23 for 10 damage). Then, she responds to the conversation going on. "I don't understand what you all are discussing.. We can't keep on changing our plans every few minutes. We knew we'd be attacked by him, and we stood up to it. If he attacks again, we'll stand it again. He, or she, or it perhaps may be better, surely can't find an unlimited supply of enemies."
Belkior (AC 22+4; HP 48) - Bless Friday February 24th, 2006 3:57:02 PM
The halfling cleric stands resolute, counting on his armor to protect himself from the wolf.
"Xenia's right, Angus. Stay together, stay protected and wait for them to come to us. Don't go out in the dark to get picked off one by one."
Belkior doesn't know anything beyond that the vampire tried to dominate him.
"I don't know anything about this specific vampire. But it's intelligent and on its own ground. Sanctifying this ground and setting guards is the best that they can do until they can use daylight in their favour."

Angus nods his head in aggreemnt. "No, I agree. I just wanted to catch her while she was hurt and not waste Belkior's spell."
Angus lowers his voice. "I have one more trick. We can use my rope trick spell and hide safely for several hours. I was hoping to save it, but now might be the time. It will only last for 3 hours, but it may throw the vamps off our trail and give Belkior and I a chance and getting spells back. I am just worried that we will see minons every other hour all night. The bad thing is that the space only holds eight, someone or Sunshine has to stay out, and thats not good. Any thoughts?"
Xenia (4th Illegal Post) Friday February 24th, 2006 5:04:43 PM
Xenia stands up out of her crouch. Still ready with her shot, she answers.
"I don't think we need to worry about that so much, Angus. But if you want to make sure you get your spells back, then you and Belkie should go up into the ... um ... the trick. You get undisturbed sleep up there. The rest of us can stay down here. Plenty of fighting power here. We should be alright."

If Lang agrees we can stand watch and let the others rest.* Ashlan glances to Xenia and Wynn, "You all trust Lang so I would assume me standing watch with him would give everyone peace of mind while you rested."
Ashlan looks back at Angus, "No matter what this spell you spoke of sounds like the best bet for some of us to get rest and we just have to becareful."

She stands next to the rope and grappling hook, but rather than climbing, just steps right off the edge of the roof. Ten feet below, the rogue takes up the impact in her legs and does a single casual roll, springing lightly back to her feet and trots over to Wynn. With the flat of her hand she strikes the meat of the bard's shoulder.

Famina pretends to sleep, like the others, but is really lying in her blanket, wearing her armor, her sword in hand. There's no way she'll rest when enemies are around... especially cunning ones like this vampire. Besides, the next day when they get back to town she can rest. Till then, she keeps watch, feigning sleep. When it's her time to watch, she gets up and stands guard dutifully, though not the most aware of watchpersons... (Spot 6, listen 5)

Poor wolves, the rogue thinks as the carcasses are dragged off into the night. Their gray fur is stained red with their own blood. Even in death their ever-staring eyes reflect the firelight, their lips pulled back in a snarling rictus of pain.
Poor wolves.
It does get easier. Maybe that's a good thing. Maybe not. Xenia's mind harkens back to the hollow tree in the Crying Woods. The bodies of the three witches, their guards, hacked, ripped and burnt. Herself, losing the contents of her stomach just outside.
But it does get easier. Under her cheek she feels the rise and fall of his chest, a soothing rhythm, drawing her down into a secure and carefree sleep. Easier, yes. And some things help so much to make it so.

Syr and Famina stand guard for more than 2 hours. The time passes slowly and uneventfully (about 2 1/2 hours on watch).
They wake the next watch and they too are able to pass their watch without any trouble.
The last watch takes over and they get to enjoy the sunrise. It looks to be a fairly nice day. Maybe even nice enough to slay some vampires.
The non-spell users start to wake and go about their morning rituals, trying to be quiet so as not to disturb the spell casters.
About an hour later the 3 spell users (Wynn, Angus and Belkior) wake up and spend an hour or so reflecting on their magical power.
Forty five minutes or so later the group is not only rested, but fed. Part of them cannot believe there may be a vampire only a short distance away in the manor home.
Everyone is rested. Please adjust your HP's for a night of healing if applicable. Belkior please include your spell selection in your next post. Lang is not able to recover his Speak with Animals spell.

Angus awakes refreshed and ready for action. "Have a good breakfast everyone. We will need our strenght today. Belkior, just remember that I have dispel magic covered. You may want to take more undead damaging spells in its place."
Angus eats a meager breakfast and then puts away his camp ware and stand to announce. "Lets go hunting and clean this place out for the kids." Angus looks very determined and ready for action.

Belkior (AC 22; HP 48) Wednesday March 1st, 2006 8:50:13 AM
The halfling cleric rises before dawn and rolls up his blankets. After ensuring that his companions are all safe and accounted for, Belkior will kneel and begin his morning prayers to Alemi. He clears his mind and quietly recites the litanies and prayers that connect him to the god of Healing.
After an hour of quiet contemplation, Belkior rises to his feet and is ready to face the day. When Angus has completed his preparations, Belkior will sit to discuss strategy.
"I can cast a spell that will provide protection against the vampire's physical attacks and it's ability to control people for anyone who is within a short distance of me, or whoever I cast it on. And it might have the benefit of preventing the creatures the vampire can call from touching us, too."
"I, of course, have some damaging spells specifically intended to harm undead."
"I can, of course, detect where the vampire is once we enter whatever building it is hiding. I can also hide us from the undead until we're ready to attack it."
"And, of course, I can put protective magics on all of us and heal anyone who is injured. I don't have the diamond dust neeeded to restore lost levels to anyone. If someone should need that spell, we'll have to get back to Plateau City."
After completing his speech, Belkior will collect a flask of water from the spring and cast Bless Water to replace one of the flasks of holy water that he used on the previous day.

Standing with Wynn on the last watch, Xenia feels her heart expand at the beauty of the rising sun. Being here. With Wynn. It just feels so wonderful. There's just something different to life when you've got someone there. No matter what sort of really terrible undead and stuff is around.
In a daydreaming moment, she wonders if this isn't just the way her Da and Ma feel. And why they're always saying that it's not important that they're not married, just so long as they're together. Whatever it is. Sure is great.
A great morning deserves great food in the morning. The rogue pulls out the special wand.
"Gezphrble." She tries to wrap her mouth around the activation word while reaching down inside herself for the magic.
Nothing.
"Gezphrble!" A sudden warmth sweeps over her, and she feels the magic in her hands. hehe Getting pretty good at that.
Breakfast rations heat under the rogue's touch to a nice comfy breakfast temperature. After a moment, she decides on eggs and bacon. All it takes is a touch, and everyone's rations taste like eggs and bacon.
Except ... for Belkie's. Belkie don't eat meat. You remember those kinds of things. So Belkie gets fresh melon. And everyone's water tastes like juice from oranges. Good stuff.

I rather not have to fight against anyone here again."

Famina Wednesday March 1st, 2006 10:02:39 PM

DM Matt C. - A new day. Wednesday March 1st, 2006 11:07:46 PM
The Shields enjoy their breakfast with a little help from Xenia's magic wand. Some spell strategies and search strategies are talked over. The group decides that they need to explore all the out buildings before tackling the main building, the probable location of the vampire's lair.
Lang, after going into the woodshed more times than he wants to remember, states that it is free of undead.
The group heads towards the mill that is down by the river. It is then that they notice that some of the dead wolves bodies are missing. A quick count reveals only 7 dead bodies. There were 11 wolves total that attacked the camp. One dead wolf floated away, that leaves 3 missing. Perhaps the night creatures (normal ones that is) took them away. But then again the Shields did not hear the normal night sounds that they are used to hearing.
With the missing wolf mystery in their heads the Shields make quick work in searching the mill. It is your standard mill and it is in pretty good shape. It is also free of undead creatures.
Next on the list is the stables. On their trek to the building the Shields notice that the bridge over the river is in quite disrepair. It does not look like a safe escape route for the heavier members of the party.
The stables building is slightly smaller than the barn. It is also 40' tall in the middle, like the barn. Its double door opening is on the long wall facing the main home. The doors are unlocked and open easily. Inside is similar to the barn. Two levels with pens on the first and storage on the second. There are two 20' by 20' pens on the back wall. The front section of the stables has your typical horse equipment strewn about. A ladder is next to the door opening and a quick climb to the second level reveals nothing, just empty storage space. Outside of the mess the building is in good shape.
The Shields gather themselves in front of the stable. They eye the barn and eye each other a little nervously. The prior days battle is still fresh on everyones' minds. They hope that opening the barn doors does not lead to the same outcome as yesterday.
As one they march over to the barn. The busted up doors are as closed as busted doors could be. No one can remember if they closed the doors when they left. A little apprehensive, Lang grabs the doors and pulls them open. Unlike yesterday, they do open on the first try and open somewhat easily.
The Shields look into the barn. The first thing they notice is that the opening on the ceiling is covered again. Everyone is sure that they did not do that. The burst coffins still lie below the rope that was used in swinging the coffins off the second level. Other than that nothing else can be seen or heard.

Angus casts mage armor on himself outside he barn in anticipation of conflict.
Angus whispers to everyone "Stay with your buddy. Xenia and Syr take a look upstairs and see what you can see. We will keep you covered. We have to see if we can get lucky with the coffins again and kill them while they sleep or recover."
Lang and Sunshine Thursday March 2nd, 2006 8:28:07 AM
Lang is unsure of the rickity old bridge and test the depth and speed of the stream to see if he can ford it.
Upon hearing Angus request to cover those searching the barn loft, Lang takes out his bow and readies two arrows. "I got you two covered, be careful."
Belkior (AC 22; HP 48) d20+4=7 d20+8=16 Thursday March 2nd, 2006 8:29:31 AM
The halfling cleric nods in agreement with Angus.
"Everybody stick close and support one another. I'll hold off casting my protective spells for a bit - it will only last for 80 minutes."
Thinking for a moment, Belkior turns to Xenia and Syr. "You should check the coffins up there, even the ones that I put holy water in. And uncovering the hole first might be an idea, too, especially if the coffins are closed."
Belkior cranes his head about, trying to gauge the weather. Unfortunately, he's not well versed in survival skills so he can't tell whether the sun will be out later. Survival (untrained) = 7
While he is waiting for the scouts to report, Belkior fidgets with his equipment. He retrieves his wand of Cure Moderate Wounds and tucks it into his left hand behind his buckler. He doesn't take his mace from his belt, figuring that he will be more effective casting spells than trying to fight.
He leans over and whispers to Angus, "I can't think of a reason that some wolf bodies would disappear. Who checked them to ensure that they were really dead?" Knowledge Religion = 16

"Alright then. Top down approach." Xenia metaphorically rolls up her sleeves. From her pack, she draws an everburning torch and lobs it in a lazy arc up to the right hand section of the loft. Walking in a tight circle in the center of the barn produces something of a look into the dark corners of the loft areas.
Then the rogue leaves.
Moving around to the side of the building, she picks a likely spot and again ties her rope to the three pronged grappling hook.
"Best not to come in the way they expect you," she says half to herself. "Specially when you got the time."
Xenia scrambles up the side of the barn and makes her way across the roof to the covered hole. After ripping away the covering, she takes another look, and then drops down through the hole.
"Alright. I'm gonna search up here. The full mean deal. Clues, traps, secret doors, everything." The rogue carefully folds her lenses and stows them safely. Then she straps on a pair of Goggles.
"Next I'm gonna come down there and do the same thing to the ground floor. This might take a while."
Angus (second illegal post) Thursday March 2nd, 2006 12:56:44 PM
Angus is pleased to see the group working and finds a nice soft spot to sit down outside the barn. Angus thinks to himself, go get;em girl as Xenia take her time and begins her climb.

Just incase there are undead like the vampire around though he does his best to let the others do most of the spotting since he doesn't want to meet the undead's eyes like before and have a reoccurance of what happened before. He does speak lightly to Lang, "Lets hope no vampire spawn jump up to soon. Don't want a repeat of last time."

Lang pulls out his staff to test the streams depth and current. He wades in a short distance and it is already at least 5' deep. The current is fairly strong. He doesn't think he would have any trouble getting across with his strength and swimming skill, but some of the lighter or non-swimmers may end up downstream a ways before they get across.
Belkior tries to judge how the weather will be for the day. It is sunny and in the high 70's now and it does not look like it is going to change any time soon.
The Shields reach the barn and find a few things out of the ordinary from when they left it yesterday. Caution prevails and the stealth expert takes over. Xenia throws in a magic torch that lights most of the lower level and some of the upper level. Nothing is revealed in the light. She then walks around the lower level, but does not see or hear anything that would cause suspicion. Moving back outside, Xenia climbs up the side of the barn and makes her way over to the covered opening. A quick tug and the tarp is removed and sunlight pours through the opening.
The first thing Xenia notices when she hops down into the barn is that 2 of the unbroken coffins are gone, the 2 that were empty of Vampire Spawn. Where the coffins were, there are now 2 large piles of dirt. There is no movement or noise on the second level either. Xenia then goes about a more minute inspection of the barn. After a half an hour she is done with her examination of the barn. Other than the missing coffins, nothing else appears amiss.
OOC - Total time to search barn 45 minutes.

"Looks like they took the coffins, but dumped the holy dirt you made there yesterday, Belkie. Can they do that? Just fill 'em up again and reuse them? Weerdo thing. Having to sleep in a coffin."
"Looks like all we have left is the main house there." She stands outside the barn with hands on hips, a thoughtful, slightly disapproving look on her dark face.
"You guys decide how you want to go in. I'm gonna take a look at all the doors and windows on the outside. Any traps might give us an idea of what to expect on the inside."

The halfling cleric relaxes slightly when Xenia gives the all clear from the barn. Belkior is a little puzzled about the coffins, he was hoping to prevent their use by the vampire. But it looks like his efforts were nothing more than an annoyance.
When Xenia announces her plan to reconnoiter the main house, Belkior looks up with some alarm.
"Nobody should be alone, not while what is presumably the master is still about. Someone needs to go with Xenia while she circles the house. And maybe check to see if the shutters and doors can be opened - we need to get the sunight into the house."
Belkior turns to Angus and discusses his plans for using spells.
"I'm not going to cast my detection spell until we go inside. It doesn't last long and it probably won't be useful from the outside of the house anyway."
"I'll hold off on my protective spells until we find the vampire. My spell will last for over an hour but there's no point letting it expire before we need it."

When you get back we will need you to check the front door for traps and maybe we go in a window on the first floor instead of using the front door, but we will let you check it out first."

Famina likes being paired with the somewhat friendly elf, Syr. As they explore the barn, she keeps up a good eye to make to keep nearby her teammate, in the hopes that at least one of them will be able to notice if the other's enchanted by those vampires. Luckily, none appear. As they wander back to the house, she can't help but asking, "So...how long have you been a member of the Crimson Shields, Syr? Have you been with them long?" After listening to his answer, she volunteers, feeling somewhat talkative (compared to her usual reticient self), "I've only been in such groups since I left my homeland a few years ago."
DM Matt C. Sunday March 5th, 2006 12:28:30 AM
Xenia starts he searching and examination of the main home. The rest of the Shields spread out a short distance behind her to provide muscle and magic support.
Starting at the front door she slowly walks around the building, noting all the windows and the one other door on ground level. All the windows have shutters and they are all closed. No mechanism for opening the shutters can be seen on the outside. The ground level appears to be about 15' tall and the window bottoms start at about 7' off the ground. The doors, shutters and general house all seem to be in quite good shape.
Arriving back at the front door, Xenia steps back a short distance from the house. Following the same pattern she moves around the house again, this time looking at the second level. She notes that there are 2 doors on this level. One that appears to be the doorway from the second level to a large balcony over the left side of the house. Another appears to be the doorway from the second level to a small balcony over the front door of the house. There are fewer windows on this level, but they are the same as the ones on the first level.
Once again Xenia arrives back at the front door. She approaches it carefully and searches it for traps. Almost immediately she pulls back her hand as she finds a powerful, magical trap. Without touching the door she traces the outline of the spell around the door frame. She turns to the Shields and says.
"There is a powerful magical protection on this door. A Glyph of Warding has been cast upon this doorway."
OOC - No other door or window was searched at this point.

The rogue eyes the door with an analytical stare. Then, with a sigh, she shakes her head.
"Not much chance I'm taking that trap down." She begins walking around to the west. "Could you, maybe unmagic it or something?" At the western balcony, the rogue stops and survey's the climb.
"Anywhos, I'm gonna check out the balcony door. At the very least, we could rig some harnesses to drop down from the roof and break open the shutters. I mean, it's not even noon. We have the whole rest of the day. More days if we need. What are they gonna do? Bring in re-enforcements? I mean, what else is around here?"

"And don't see whereas vampies couldn't have put that trap up there. I mean, Belkie said they do magic. Right, Belkie? But, then again, we got ghoulies around here too, right? So why not something different inside?"

"Uh-oh. That means that it's actually a Greater Glyph of Warding, which also requires at least an 11th level caster. We really are facing a powerful cleric. Hopefully it's not also a vampire."
"And this means that once we're fighting the undead, we have to keep them away from the doors."
When Wynn suggests opening it from a distance using a spell, the Healer nods.
"That might do it. If I had a spell like that memorized. Do you, Angus?"
"Or, it's possible that the spell triggers when anything that isn't undead opens the doors. Or if someone good opens the door. Or whatever."
"There are two other ways to open the doors. If Xenia's really confident, she can try to disarm or disable the spell. Or, we can move back at least 50' or 60' and have one person open the door and discharge the spell. Either somebody with lots of hitpoints or who is strong willed."

"Before we do that, Xenia should check it for traps too. The Glyph lasts until someone or something sets it off so the evil cleric might have had time to trap all the windows, too."
"Lang? Have you checked for tracks? When we last saw the vampire, she was running on foot. That doesn't mean much because she could always turn into a bat and fly into the house through a small opening. But someone or something hauled off those dead wolves. "Let's speed things up, folks. For all we know, the vampire and the cleric are making more undead while we waste time out here."
The Healer looks around at his companions, particularly Lang and the other fighters.
"Someone come with me while I scan all the windows and doors of the house. I should be able to detect the magic of the Glyphs on any window or door."
Once someone steps forward to accompany him, Belkior casts Detect Magic and begins circumnavigating the house, continuing in a clockwise fashion. He stays about 50' out from the house, both to allow his magical vision to sweep both floors of the house and in case something comes out after him.

"If we could hook up ropes to the doors and shutters without triggering the traps, that would work. Stand back out of range and give a good yank on the rope."
Wynn Thursday March 9th, 2006 5:39:55 PM
The bard helps Xenia down from the jury-rigged scaffolding, his two hands firmly on her waist. He accompanies her to a safe distance from the house as Lang and Ashalan prepare to set of the glyphs. "I hope this works" he mutters under his breath.
Syr Thursday March 9th, 2006 8:02:16 PM
Piping up from his silence, "If Xenia is right" he looks at the halfling for confirmation. "It's a necessity that we set off all of these traps."
Approaching the ex-mercenary he says, "I might have the best chance of surviving if one of these goes off. Want me to try tying a rope to one of them?" Looking over at Angus as he makes his rounds, "Just tell me which ones we want to try first."
The elf ties a rope about his waist and hands one end to Lang, "Just in case they surprise me and I need a bit of rescueing. Got another rope I can use to tie to the door/window?"

Belkior - Illegal 3rd Post Thursday March 9th, 2006 10:39:56 PM
The halfling cleric halts Syr.
"Ahh, I mispoke earlier. Assuming that all the windows and doors are each warded with an Inflict spell, one of my spells will completely protect you."
DM Matt C Friday March 10th, 2006 5:25:02 AM
Angus & Belkior cast detect magic and circle the house again. They both find out that all the lower level, shuttered windows register 2 auras of faint abjuration magic. The upper level, shuttered window do not register any magic at all.
The main door only registers 1 aura of moderate abjuration magic. The three remaining doors register the same as the shuttered windows.
OOC - You think it will be almost impossible to tie a rope to the shutter to be able to pull at it. Crowbar should not be a problem.[/i}

Lang waits for Angus and Belkior to finish their glyph inspection, all the while fingering his crowbar. When Angus takes Sunshine out of harms way the bugbear responses "Thanks." and then head to the front doors.
Lang looks to Ashlan. "Let me have a crack at it first so we both don't get zapped. If I need help come on up."

Belkior (AC 22; HP 48) d20+6=24 d20+5=22 Friday March 10th, 2006 9:23:46 AM
The halfling cleric hums to himself as he completes the circuit of the house. Interesting ...
When Belkior meets up with Angus again, he shares his conclusions.
"The upper windows are not warded at all. The main door has a Greater Glyph of Warding on it, and I learned that the spell is Mass Inflict Moderate Wounds."
"The lower windows and the remaining doors have two spells on them. We know that at least one of the windows is protected by a Glyph of Warding. But what would the other spell be?" Spellcraft = 24, Knowledge Arcana = 22
"Hmm, they might be locked with Arcane Lock. Or trapped with Fire Trap. Maybe something else, though."
When he sees Lang walking towards the door with the crowbar, Belkior moves to intercept him.
"Hold up!"
"If you're going to do that, let me protect you first. And let the rest of us get out of the way before you do it."
Belkior casts Death Ward on Lang in preparation for his attempt on the door.
"Now that you're protected, how about opening all of the windows and doors on the group floor?"

Even when working. Yeah. Even when working. It's just sort of electric having him around.
Xenia smiles down at Wynn when he puts his hands on her waist, then she hops down lightly off of the scaffold thing.
"Me too," the rogue replies to her man. "You know, I been watching Belkie suss those magic traps. Looks to me like that reading magic stuff is pretty handy. Think I might look into getting me some of that."
Famina Friday March 10th, 2006 4:18:12 PM
Famina stands waiting, watching. Talks of all these spells, like 'Inflict wounds', '11th level'... makes no sense to her. Tactics and the like seem very straightforward...As soon as it's activated, they will proceed cautiously. Very cautiously. This requires patience, which she has. So, she stands waiting.
Ashlan d20+5=13 Friday March 10th, 2006 10:18:37 PM
Ashlan looks to everyone and shrugs and he moves to whoever has the spare crowbar, "I'll give a hand also, Lang shouldn't do all the work."
Ashlan shrugs and will help if allowed too or such.

The elf grins at Famina sensing her thoughts. Watching Lang go towards the window he shrugs and settles a good distance away. "Best to leave the strategy of spells to others. I offered but Lang seems determined. What I don't understand is why Ashlan wants to get hurt too? It makes sense to minimize the risk."
Wynn Saturday March 11th, 2006 10:36:25 AM

DM Matt C. - The Seal is Broken! d20+5=18 d6+2=5 2d8(3+5)+11=19 Sunday March 12th, 2006 11:07:23 AM
The Shields have finalized a plan to enter the plantation's main building. The group steps back 60' or so. Lang and Ashlan take the crowbars and prepare to pry the front door open. Before they move forward, Belkior casts the spell Death Ward on Lang and Angus casts the spell Read Magic and views the window directly to the left of the front doorway.
Angus gathers the following information.
Version: Damage Glyph Type of Damage: Acid
OOC - Belkior nothing new on your checks outside of the fact that there are 2 abjuration spells of faint power on the shuttered windows and 3 doors.
Angus and Belkior remain with the bulk of the Shields as Ashlan and Lang approach the front door. They jam the two crowbars in between the double doors. On the count of three they both yank on the crowbars. With the leverage of the crowbars and the above human strength of the two of them, they are able to pry the double doors open.
The two doors swing outwards as Ashlan and Lang both take a short step back. The Glyph activates and the powerful inflict spell washes over the two of them. Lang feels Belkior's spell resist the powerful inflict spell. The unprotected Ashlan is not as lucky as the negative energy slams into him.
Inflict Moderate Wounds Mass - Ashlan Will save DC 20 for 19 or 9 damage.
Lang & Ashlan then peer into the interior waiting for their eyes to adjust to the darkness of the interior of the building. After a few moments the two of them wonder why they cannot see inside. All they see is a shadowy haze. As the two stand there trying to see into the building, a thin ray of magic strikes Lang and Ashlan feels the power of another spell attack his body.
Lang - Hit touch AC 18; loses 5 points of strength for 4 minutes. Ashlan - Fort save DC 13 or become blind.
About this time the remaining Shields notice the upper level, double window to the left of the balcony open up. The same shadowy, haziness can be seen within this opening.
OOC - We are in combat! This is combat round 1. Please post AC's, HP's and spell duration's.
OOC - Do not forget to post a relative position to the front door.

Staring into the inky darkness, Lang attempts to penetrate it with his darkvision.
Just then he is hit by the strenght draining ray, and grits his teeth and moves 5 feet to the right and away from the open doorway (if more movement is require then he will move more). Lang drops the crowbar (free action) and draws his short swords. The two swords feel strangely heavy, almost like he were human again.
Lang know his bow is useless as he will not be able to bend it in his current condition.
Lang looks over to where Sunshine is an hold up a hand (Animal handle 22), hoping his dog will stay with Angus and Belkior until he gains more information of the current bad situation.

End CR #1:
Ashlan partially resists the power of the inflict spell, suffering only minor damage (will save 22 for 9 damage). Encouraged by his resistance he is also able to shrug off the Blindness spell (fort save 14). He then moves off to the side of the doorway, mirroring Lang's movement. He looks towards Lang for direction.
Disregard my rolls - same effect.
Angus studies the spells that come out of the plantation home and tries to penetrate the magical mysteries of the darkness. He figures out that it is probably a Darkness spell or Deeper Darkness spell that is affecting the manor. He also thinks that it may be a secondary effect from the clerical spell Unhallow. He attempts to dispel the darkness but is unsuccessful (not that long since RM was cast -- say 2 minutes). Angus is also able to determine that the spell cast at lang was the arcane spell Ray of Enfeeblement. Angus remains where he is, 60' from the doorway.
Lang feels the spell sap his strength. He tries to penetrate the darkness with his vision, but is unsuccessful. He moves off to the side of the doorway and looks towards Ashlan.
Wynn grabs a potion and drains it down. He then moves on a diagonal to the left ending up about 45' from the open door, but off to the left side.
Belkior moves closer to the doorway and casts a bless spell (affects everyone). He ends up about 40' away. He shouts out 2 courses of action.
Xenia shouts out for the group to pull back. She also pulls a potion out and then follows Wynn, ending up next to him.
Syr shouts out to Angus and Belkior for advice. He remains next to Angus 60' from the door.
Famina gets confused by the conflicting shouts from the Shields. She looks around for cover. She turns around and heads for the stable that is about 20-30' away. She ends up inside the building, gaining the cover she desired.

The halfling cleric looks up to see the bulk of an undead ogre looming in the doorway. Thinking quickly, Belkior realizes that he has no chance of successfully turning that undead, let alone the vampire hiding in the dim interior of the house. Spot = 18, Knowledge Religion = 23
