Reston

A Hearth to Rest By - DM Donna
Wednesday November 16th, 2005 11:04:32 AM

"NO!"

Lian's offer to scout is countered by K'Nara's unusually-strident response.

"I don't want any of us splitting off from the others...no more disappearing Talons!" she insists, her eyes almost wild. "We'll all go into the place together...safety in numbers..."

She doesn't add "if there is any safety here at all"...but it hangs over everyone's heads.

The collection of buildings are sturdy (if crude-looking) cottages of wattle and thatch. Most of them look to be large enough to hold families of about four to six people. A handful of them seem to be a bit larger. They all roughly circle an area that has been paved in cobblestones and sports a large well in the center. The plaza has posts set all around it--in the posts are set sconces for holding torches, so that the plaza is lit by torchlight.

There is clearly an assemblage of people near the well--they all hold buckets and/or other such vessels for water. On a fairly regular basis, one of the people approaches the well and fills his or her bucket, then walks off towards a cottage or returns to a knot of fellow draughters to speak to them.

One thing becomes increasingly evident--

--the people aren't human. They are goblins for the most part, although the unmistakeable outlines of larger, bulkier trolls are evident as well.

"Look, Mama, look!" a child's voice suddenly cries. "A bunch of placers!" A young goblinoid is now jumping up and down and pointing in the direction of the party.

All eyes turn towards the Talons...

Falin looks around as they walk into the town, if that is what you would call it.

He begins to open his mouth when he realizes they are surrounded by goblins and trolls. He begins to look around for different avenues of escape or possible building thet can be used to fight off an attack. (Spot 13)

"Safety in numbers..." Falin says and just lets it trail off.

Wednesday November 16th, 2005 8:33:50 PM

Lian smirks at K'Nara. "Don't yell, you'll hurt my feelings!" he winks.

As they move along, he looks on in silence at the goblins. Diplomacy isn't Lian's thing.

He looks around to see if the other goblinoids are moving in around the group (Spot 14, Sense Motive 30).

"What's a placer?"

Milo
Wednesday November 16th, 2005 8:42:42 PM

Looking over the villagers warily Milo speaks in low tones to K'nara, "Um... this IS there home. Maybe we should try and make nice with the...goblins and trolls?" Milo steps between Olana and the villagers.

Gunther
Thursday November 17th, 2005 12:10:21 AM

The warrior rolls his eyes. Great. Goblins...smelly, nasty stinky goblins. Brains the size of ants...Oh wait...a Troll!! Now that was more like it!! Not much for conversation, but man were they fun in a brawl! Gunther shrugs at Lian's remarks. "I vould imagine dat dey don't see many humans or elves for dat matter. Dey might even be vary or afraid of us. Ve should be careful how ve behave."

Lian  d20-1=11
Thursday November 17th, 2005 2:46:01 AM

Lian throws caution to the wind.
"We mean you no harm. We only require a guide or at least some knowledge of this area then we'll be on the way. We can trade for the information." (bad Diplomacy check of 11)
Lian cringes at the next words he is about to say, "Take us to your leader." He fully expects a hand to slap him in the back of his head, either K'Nara's or Bert's.

Thursday November 17th, 2005 6:51:56 PM

Before they get close enough to be observed, Ingrge casts a spell on himself (detet thoughts) and as they approach he randomly starts reading the surface thoughts of those in the square.

Olanna:

Following along, olanna lookis neither right or left or even where she is going but just trudges along, feet scuffing up clouds of dust with each step. As the others slow down she keeps on walking unless she is stopped.

as they party arrives at the area around the well she looks at nothing and nearly walks ove a small child that darts in front of her. She doesnt even seem to notice he was there or that he is now gone.

Can't We All Just Get Along..? - DM Donna
Friday November 18th, 2005 12:27:01 AM

The Talons find themselves the center of attention from a large collection of goblins and a few trolls as well. Once more the high-pitched voice of a young goblin speaks:

"Ooooo...Mama, Mama...are the placers gonna go see M'Lady? I wanna go, too! She's so sweet and kind!"

"Hush, Jekl!" the female goblin whose hem the youngster was tugging shushes her child. One of the trolls--a rather familiar-looking one at that--steps forward with a puzzled look on his face, bowing to Lian in a jerky manner.

"Welcome to Reston, strangers." the troll says (even the voice is familiar, though it's a chore to place it...)

DM OOC: those who want to try must make an Intelligence check versus DC20 to detect the resemblance to Gutmasher Tremtol from the Arena.

"Our leader is Lady Fidelia, but she doesn't reside very close to our humble village." the troll tells you. "Please forgive the stares--it isn't often that placers come to Reston...they usually by-pass us completely and journey on to M'Lady's castle or to the Wanderers' Refuge."

You all notice that the humanoids wear simple, rather rough clothing, some of them bearing some implements of craft: the troll in the leather apron is doubtless a smith of some kind, while the portly goblin with a flour-stained apron of cloth must be a baker.

"You heard Jekl call you 'placers'..." the troll continues, "...it is our term from those who don't come from Harrowed Moon--originally the children pointed out that strangers were from some 'other place', and this shortened down to 'placers' whenever we speak of them."

At this point, K'Nara's hand shoots out and latches onto Olana's shoulder, staying the elf from continuing to mindlessly walk about.

"Mama..!" the adolescent goblin--still staring but this time at Olana--says in a stage whisper to his mother, "Mama! The pretty placer looks like she's got the Blank Sickness!" Jekl's mother gasps--horror etched on her face--then snatches up her child and hastens away to one of the nearby cottages, quickly disappearing inside.

"Please forgive the young one," the troll says with a frown, "He has no tact and is fascinated by placers whenever they appear." The troll fastens red-rimmed eyes upon the party.

"What brings you to Reston, now? How can we be of service to you..?"

Falin
Friday November 18th, 2005 2:03:24 PM

Upon hearing that they are not going to be shredded into little pieces Falin lets his guard down a bit.

Seems our battle may not be here at this village Falin thinks to himself.

Lian
Friday November 18th, 2005 6:56:09 PM

Lian looks at K'Nara, then back at the troll. "Fact is, we are not really sure. We were participating in a legendary event. We succeed in finishing. Then we were here."

"Fidelia is the leader here in Reston?"

Gunther  d20+1=4
Saturday November 19th, 2005 12:26:56 AM

The warrior smiles at all the goblins and trolls around. In a small way, it was kind of like being home. Oooo...that troll looks kinda familiar. Maybe I fought him once or something (Int.=4). Rooting through his backpack, Gunther pulls out a small gem and hands it to the troll that has been so informative. "Geben Sie diesem zum wenig ein bitte. Er erinnert mich an mich, als ich klein war." he says very politely in Orcish. Then he looks to K'nara. "Vell, should ve go to M'Lady? She sounds interesting."

Milo
Saturday November 19th, 2005 2:45:59 AM

Milo too grabs Olana's hand to keep her in one place. Smiling gratefully at the troll, "We're not sure where we are in relation to home, but home is where we're trying to get to. Maybe Lady Fidelia can help us with getting home?"

Ingrge
Saturday November 19th, 2005 9:42:53 AM

Ingrge focusses in on reading the thoughts of Jekl's mother to find out more about hat she might know or suspect about Olanna's illness.

Getting Answers--Spoken & Otherwise - DM Donna
Saturday November 19th, 2005 12:01:37 PM

"Lady Fidelia rules Harrowed Moon." the troll explains. "Reston is but one village within Harrowed Moon. We are a small place, so we all help each other here--there really is no one leader in this particular village. We all swear fealty to the Lady." Gunther hands over the gem to the speaker, whose knobby eyebrows raise in surprise.

"Been a dog's age since I heard Orcish." the troll admits. "And I will see that Jekl gets this--it is shiny and glittery, so he'll probably like it." The troll puts the gem in his pocket with a baring of his teeth (apparently the troll version of smiling.)

"I see you all have a large amount of these with you." he points out (at least, you assume that the troll is a "he".) "Normally you could probably count on brigands and such attempting to waylay you for it, but Harrowed Moon doesn't value these things like other places do--gems and jewelry are pretty, but you can't eat them and there are none here with the inclination to buy or own them. We'd rather eat and be warm and safe when the moon goes down." Milo's dialogue gets the troll's attention now.

"If anyone in this land can help you, it would be M'Lady Fidelia." the humanoid says emphatically, his statement punctuated by the enthusiastic nods and murmurs of the other villagers within earshot. "She is human, like you..." here he points to K'Nara, "...she is wise and kind. I have no doubt that she would do everything in her power to aid you in your return to your home." Ingrge's spell picks up curiosity and excitement about the Talons, along with the consensus that this Lady Fidelia IS kind and wise and generous...as well as the odd thought or two that some of Lady Fidelia's deputies aren't as well-liked.

When the elven weapon-mage turns his concentration on Jekl's mother, he finds that the female goblin is extremely worried that Jekl will not keep to himself and possibly catch the dreaded Blank Sickness from Olana.

Jekl, it seems, is considered far TOO curious for his own safety.

Brother Bertram
Monday November 21st, 2005 7:19:41 PM

Bertram scratches at his beard absently as he ponders these other 'placers'. "What happens to these placers? Do they find a way home? Or are they trapped here?"

Lian
Monday November 21st, 2005 8:00:08 PM

"This Fidelia. When did she come to this place?

Does she have a residence in this area or do we have to travel a great distance?"

Milo
Monday November 21st, 2005 9:26:00 PM

Milo perks up at the mention of Lady Fidelia being the one in the know, "Could you provide us with directions to Lady Fidelia's place? I think that we need to ask her for help."

Gunther
Monday November 21st, 2005 9:38:41 PM

The warrior smiles back at the troll and nods his head in approval at the Talons' wise questions.

Falin
Monday November 21st, 2005 10:17:20 PM

Trolls and goblins being nice? Falin thinks to himself.

"Does Fidelia have the power to send us home? Is she a great wizard?" Falin asks the big troll.

More Answers - DM Donna
Monday November 21st, 2005 11:23:32 PM

The troll appears to think carefully before answering the various questions.

"Reston is a very small place within the boundaries of Harrowed Moon," he explains to Bertram, "So we don't see many placers--once or twice a year we might be visited by two or three of them. Honestly, your group is the most we've ever seen at one time and the only placers to come here at all this year. Most placers get directions to M'Lady's castle and then go there at moonrise, when it's safest to journey on the roads." The troll nods and then shrugs. "We never see them again after that, so M'Lady must have helped them get back to their places, I'm sure." He turns to Lian now.

"Lady Fidelia has always been here, as far as I know." he tells the elf. "Her castle can be found if you follow the road that brought you into Reston, but go the opposite way you came to get here. It's a full day's journey even on the road, though. If you plan to go, you'd best rest up within the boundaries of Reston and then set out with the moonrise. That way you're less likely to get eaten by something in the Desolation before you get to see the Lady."

Nodding to Milo, the troll agrees with the halfling's supposition.

"Lady Fidelia is your best bet to leave Harrowed Moon." he says firmly, and his head bob includes Falin. "The Lady has...deputies that are likely the ones who can help you home. I don't think M'Lady has spells of her own--though she is so wise and smart, I suppose it wouldn't be too surprising to find that she may be able to cast a spell or two herself."

"It's close to noon now..." K'Nara says, glancing at the lilac sphere almost directly overhead.

"Well--we call it 'midmoon'..." corrects the troll with another "friendly" show of teeth.

"Um...yes...midmoon..." the leader of the Talons agrees, "...but you say that it will take the whole of the day to get from here to Lady Fidelia's castle?"

"Only if you aren't bogged down by that stuff." the troll replies, hooking a thumb at the quite-full disks of loot. "Look--I own the largest living quarters here in the village. Since I'm a bachelor, I offer my rooms to the traders that come here regularly. You all look like you can use the sanctuary from the things that roam the areas outside the roadways. I'd be honored if you rested in my rooms until you get yourselves ready to journey to Lady Fidelia's castle. What say you..?"

Lian
Tuesday November 22nd, 2005 1:45:54 AM

"Well, it seems we best make fast friends of this Fidelia." Suggests the monk.

The elf turns to the troll. "These 'Placers' you say have come here... have they all left or have they made homes here?" His face twists slightly. "Or have they survived at all?"

Falin reaches into his quiver and produced several gems of assorted color and holds them out. "What do you say?"

Resting in Reston - DM Donna
Thursday November 24th, 2005 12:52:51 PM

"Placers never really stay long." the troll replies to Lian's initial question. "I've only ever known one that's actually remained in Harrowed Moon..." Here the humanoid shows all his teeth in a troll grin. "...that would be me."

K'Nara--who'd been about to say something to Gunther--turns wide eyes to the troll upon hearing that admission.

"You're not from Harrowed Moon?" she asks.

"No--I'm originally from Izen." he answers. "Bonecrusher Tremtol, at your service..." he adds belatedly with a bow, "...I was an arena announcer when I ventured a little too close to the Bone Tower in anticipation of welcoming the first champions from the Arena back out--dawn came and they didn't emerge, but then I got sucked into a burst of shadows that appeared in the area just as the door in the tower disappeared." Bonecrusher shook his head ruefully. "I was lucky--I appeared rather close to Reston when I came here, so I was able to outrun the skulls that greeted me when I first got here." The troll grimaces in remembrance. After Falin's comment and the elf's offer of gems to the troll, Bonecrusher waves away the hand stretched out to him.

"No, no--thanks for the offer, but those do us no good here." he tells Falin. "Come, come...my house is this way..." He leads the party to what must be the largest of the cottages in this place. It's of sturdy construction (wattle & thatch like the others), though it does have a second story.

The first floor of the place has several rooms, including a nicely-sized great room with a kitchen off one end. The furnishings, like the house, are simple but sturdy.

"The entire upper floor is available for your use." Bonecrusher says, bowing.

Gunther

The warrior sets about making sure all the treasure is transported safely. When all seems to be in order, Gunther pulls K'nara aside. "Vell my love, at last ve have some safe time. Vhat do you say ve take advantage of it? I tink I saw a nice cozy room over dere...I could spread out some blankets if you vant...make a nice place for us to snuggle up." Gunther grins goofily as he gestures toward the room.

Settling In - DM Donna
Saturday November 26th, 2005 12:31:35 AM

Ingrge's careful concentration eventually gleans a few more facts about the Lady Fidelia:

1. She is generally very well-liked and perceived as a kind and generous lady who genuinely cares for everyone in Harrowed Moon. She visits places like Reston once or twice a year (the party missed her last appearance here in the village by a month or so.)

2. The deputy that the people of Reston have the most experience with is Amalie, a young woman (also human) who is a very strict interpreter of the few rules that bind the village to Lady Fidelia. Amalie is viewed as a very strict sort of "marshall", and there are quite a few of the citizens who are very much in awe/fear of her because of her position in relation to Lady Fidelia.

3. At least one or two of the people in the village fleetingly thought that Olana would be easy pickings for a tasty elven treat to relieve a diet of mushrooms and the occasional underground rodent.

K'Nara nods to the others and then to Bonecrusher.

"You're related to Gutmasher, aren't you?" she asks.

"He's a cousin." Bonecrusher nods. "We both wanted to be in showbiz, so he got the announcer gig when I ended up here. I still manage to talk to him via our magic mirror set-up."

"Ah...so it may be possible to send a message back to our home?" K'Nara muses.

"If you came from The Wold, then, yes, I could try to get in touch with Gut for you." Bonecrusher agrees. "The mirror works only intermittenly...but I never really know when it's going to make the connection until it does...and then, sometimes, Gut isn't in the room when the connection gets made. It's hit or miss--but it DOES 'hit' eventually."

"That's good to know." the leader of the Talons says with a nod.

"I'm going to see about getting my water for the day." Bonecrusher tells the Talons. "If the well is up to snuff, I'll be able to get water for you all, too..." So saying, the troll departs the premises, leaving the Talons to their devices.

"C'mon, Gunther..." K'Nara turns to the tall burly fighter, "...we have to find the room where all THAT--" she waves a hand at the piles of gems and the chests, "--is going to go. Then we really need to talk..."

The tall blade singer mounts the stairs to the upper story...

Brother Bertram

"Hold Friend", Bertram says raising a hand. "Get me some pots and perhaps I can help you and our party with the water problem."

Takin' Care of Business - DM Donna
Monday November 28th, 2005 10:57:43 PM

Betram finds that he can, indeed, conjure forth the water...though only he knows how sluggish and hesitant even that power comes forth when he commands it. Bonecrusher is delighted with the results, though, and babbles his gratitude practically non-stop for quite some time after.

Milo finds a cozy room that has furnishings that, for once, aren't scaled to human-or-bigger dimensions. It's a nice change--the beds in the room are long enough that Olana can lie down on them without having to scrunch up, yet not so high off the ground that Milo has to climb up on a stool to get into them, either.

Olana follows directions, not seeming to do more than blink at her surroundings.

There are several other rooms on the second floor, one of which K'Nara directs the unseen servants and the disks with the treasure. She reserves the two locked chests and directs Gunther to put them in an adjacent room.

"Gunther..." she begins to speak, her hazel eyes sharpening considerably as she regards the rough-and-ready fighter, "...I haven't had much of a chance to really talk to you. I don't really know you that well--however, I can see that it's obvious that you DO like me. I'm flattered...but we can't just jump into being together. I'd rather get to know you a bit more. I hope you understand..."

Gunther
Monday November 28th, 2005 11:51:30 PM

The warrior is taken back by K'nara's words...and confusion is written all over his face. "Vat do you mean I like you?? You're de von who started all dis. Vhy else vould you keep hitting me?" Gunther runs his fingers through his all white hair, clearly trying to slowly process everything. "I mean, don't get me wrong...I do like you...but I vas just responding to your advances." Gunther looks up at K'nara, trying keep the panic sitting in his gut like a brick from showing on his face. "Does dis mean dat you don't like me? Did I do something wrong?? It vas the corpse goo vasn't it...I should have known dat vas a wrong idea..."

K'Nara
Tuesday November 29th, 2005 12:30:06 AM

The flame-haired blade singer heaved a sigh that was tinged with impatience.

"Look--I'm trying to explain that I hadn't been paying attention to how my actions may have effected you." she explained. "I actually DO like you--really...but we're in a place that is getting on everyone's nerves. We have to concentrate on getting out of here alive." She grinned ruefully. "Like how you managed to show us all how to get out of that poison-gas room alive back in the Bone Tower. That was cool...in spite of the corpse goo..."

Lian
Tuesday November 29th, 2005 3:47:06 AM

Having followed the red head to the upper floor to help with the loot, the monk sees what is about to happen when she begins to speak.

Olana and Milo's courtship wasn't nearly this... well, whatever it was, this was harder to watch. The monk holds the whole group in his heart. He would hate seeing any of them get hurt feelings.

Trying to keep out of it directly and keep the great warrior's feelings from getting hurt, he tries to distract from the conversation.
"Well, I think we do need to get some rest. K'nara, should we set watch here with the loot?" He says as he moves some sacks to the other room.

The warrior nods at K'nara soberly. Note to self...corpse goo is not a good idea... he thinks. "Yes, I understand now. I am sorry I misunderstood before." he says simply waving a hand at Lian trying to discreetly dismiss the elf. "If you don't mind, Miss K'nara, I vill stay in dis room vith de loot. Dat vay ve don't need to post any guards...not dat ve really needed to anyvay. But it vill be von last ting you need to vorry about."

Two Mysterious Chests - DM Donna
Wednesday November 30th, 2005 12:27:11 AM

K'Nara positively beams at Gunther.

"Don't call me 'Miss K'Nara'..." she says, "...we've saved each other's lives a few times over now--K'Nara will do just fine. I want to take the time to get to know more about you, but we already have a good start, I think." The woman looks around the room, nodding. "Thank you for volunteering to stay here..."

Ingrge's discoveries are fielded by the group's leader, who nods a bit at the elf's opinion about seeking out this "Amalie"...and frowns a bit when she hears about the anticipated change of local diet. Ingrge can assure K'Nara, however, that--although rather colorful in their unexpectedness--none of the thoughts that had cast Olana as an entree were sharp-edged plans to get the elf...more like rather wistful dreaming.

"We should rest up as best we can here before setting out to find either Amalie or the Lady Fidelia..." K'Nara points out.

"If you want to meet Amalie," Bonecrusher volunteers, "She comes around rather regularly...she'll probably be here tomorrow or the next day."

K'Nara's sharp hazel eyes come to rest on the two chests that the party managed to haul out of the Bone Tower...the ones that are still locked.

"After we're a bit more rested and less...tense..." she says, nodding at the containers, "...I'd like to see what's in those..."

"We should wait for this Amalie, then," K'Nara agrees with Ingrge, "We can probably get another perspective on this place and the Lady who rules it."

Each in their own way, the Talons manage to relax a bit and actually rest without having to worry about creepy things in the night trying to attack them.

Bonecrusher provides a nice meal--a type of mushroom souffle, which he says is the main staple of the food around here, although the villagers do manage to get some meat and fish on occasion. He promises that, tomorrow night, he will be able to make some fish stew from the stores that he has. He hadn't been expecting company or he'd've made it for tonight's dinner.

After the meal, the Talons are able to turn their attention to the two chests that were taken from the Bone Tower...

Milo
Wednesday November 30th, 2005 10:53:31 PM

Milo eats and gets Olana to eat as best he can. Then he sits back and rests, watching out for his other friends as well as Olana.

Lian
Thursday December 1st, 2005 3:04:44 AM

Lian looks on, from a distance, as the others ponder the chests.

Gunther
Thursday December 1st, 2005 11:18:30 PM

The cat trainer stretches out after the relaxing meal. "Vell, I could alvays open it orc style...but it's probably best to let Milo take a crack at it first."

Open To Suggestions - DM Donna
Friday December 2nd, 2005 12:31:35 AM

"Yes, Milo..." K'Nara says with a nod and a smile to Gunther, "...why don't you see how your many skills fare against these two chests...?"

If Milo takes up the challenge, he'll have to state what he is doing and make Skill rolls for his stated actions.

Lian
Friday December 2nd, 2005 2:12:36 AM

Lian smiles at K'Nara. "I can open them." He winks.

Brother Bertram
Friday December 2nd, 2005 4:03:48 AM

Bertram watches with interest as the others attempt to open the chests they recovered.

Ingrge
Friday December 2nd, 2005 5:29:27 PM

As Lian approaches the chests, Ingrge moves to the other side of the room and watches ready to duck and cover in needed.

(sorry Jay, but I don't think Ingrge has ever seen Lian play with traps before so....)

Lian (OOC)
Friday December 2nd, 2005 7:16:55 PM

OOC: I never said that Lian was approaching the chests and it should be clear to ALL the Talons that Lian is joking. :)

Falin
Saturday December 3rd, 2005 9:17:53 AM

Shaking his head a little as if waking from a dream, Falin looks around at what is going on. He walks up behind whoever decided to open the chests in order to possible render assistance if things go ugly.

DM Donna
Sunday December 4th, 2005 12:52:44 PM

...still waiting for Milo to post...

Gunther
Sunday December 4th, 2005 2:38:25 PM

Watches with baited breath to see what Milo does with the chests.

Milo  d20+17=36 d20+17=30
Monday December 5th, 2005 12:11:09 AM

Though temporarily distracted, Milo soon snaps to attention, nodding to K'nara. Taking his time, the halfling thoroughly inspects both chests for possible traps. Once it is clear there is no further danger, Milo works quickly to open them up.(OOC: Taking 20 to search the chests for a result of DC 35. If Milo finds a trap he'll attempt to disarm them [DC 36 and 30]. Milo takes 20 to open each chest for an Open Locks check of DC 42.)

Lian
Monday December 5th, 2005 9:50:45 AM

Regardless of Milo's endless talents and steady heands, Lian takes up a position somewhere well away from the chest (but still within visual range).

Whatcha Got..? - DM Donna
Monday December 5th, 2005 5:55:28 PM

Milo's skill & expertise find no traps, and make very short work of the locks on the two chests. Within the chests:

A long sword in a beaten but finely-tooled scabbard; an axe of most excellent craftsmanship; a suit of golden chainmail; and a very battered backpack. The backpack is heavy with items inside it.

Milo  d20+17=34
Monday December 5th, 2005 8:42:08 PM

Continuing to take his time, Milo searches the backpack for possible traps, and then proceeds to open it. (OOC: Take 20 to find traps DC 35. DC 34 to Disable if a trap exists.)

Gunther
Tuesday December 6th, 2005 12:42:49 AM

The warrior laughs as Milo makes such an easy task of opening the chest. He watches with interest as the rogue turns to the backpack, wondering what kind of riches might be inside.

Falin
Tuesday December 6th, 2005 8:17:21 AM

"Such skill with the fingers calls for compliments." Says Falin from behind Milo. "Good job friend."

Falin awaits to see what the backpack holds.

Olana  Howdy folks! It's good to be back.
Tuesday December 6th, 2005 11:27:09 AM

Olana's eyes follow the movement in the room. There's a sense of anticipation that registers at gut level. Danger?
She sits up, but the howling empty cavern in her head becomes confused. So, should she lie down or sit up?
Olana frowns.

Lian
Tuesday December 6th, 2005 11:55:45 AM

Lian's eyes drift absently over the members of the group while watching the halfling's skills and fall upon Olana. They move back to the chests and backpack, then he double-takes at the elven ranger.

Stunned, he blinks for a few seconds, then says, "Friends... our lobotomized ranger seems to be stirring! Perhaps she's back with the 'living'?"

Brother Bertram
Tuesday December 6th, 2005 7:21:12 PM

Bertram eyes Olana with interest, glad to see any signs of life within her. He watches to see if there is more or if it were an odd, solitary occurence.

The Treasure Within - DM Donna
Tuesday December 6th, 2005 9:49:30 PM

K'Nara's attention is diverted to Olana...but the elf maid doesn't appear to be any closer to regaining herself than she was before, for Olana still can't seem to initiate action for herself.

"Sit here, then..." the blade singer bids Olana softly, leading the elf to a chair near where Milo is carefully checking the backpack over before opening it. (OOC: no traps on this one, either.)

Inside the backpack: A silver holy symbol depicting three joined circles surrounded by a larger one; a twisted gold-and-silver band that looks like it may fit someone's finger; a set of four flat iron bars; a pouch of soft suede; another pouch of heavy linen; a figurine of a small white horse; a couple of sets of serviceable, human-sized tunics and breeches; a dried bottle of ink; a quill case and an old journal.

Gunther
Wednesday December 7th, 2005 1:20:08 AM

The warrior yawns and stretches...the stress of the road catching up with him. Olana's sudden activity brings him to a heightened alert. His excitement is dashed though as K'nara notes that she doesn't seem to be recovering. He looks longingly at the items recovered from the chest. "I don't suppose ve can tell vhat dey are tonight? Dey might come in handy."

Falin
Wednesday December 7th, 2005 3:27:47 AM

"I agree with Gunther," says Falin. "If there is a way to identify them it may be beneficial."

Looking over at Olana there is a sudden elation in his demeanor and then with K'Nara's realization he is brought back to reality and he returns to his normally sad looking state.

Lian
Wednesday December 7th, 2005 10:57:01 AM

Lian's eyes widen when they fall on the holy symbol. "That is truly interesting. May I take that piece?" He askes the group hopefully. (He's referring to the linked circles of silver.) Nothing else seems to catch his eye.

Ingrge
Wednesday December 7th, 2005 7:44:53 PM

Ingrge looks at the pile and shakes his head. I will not be able to do anything about those until tomorrow morning when I can memorize a few identify spells to use on them. I think figment might be interested in that ring. As for me I am always in need of pots for my inks and quills for my scroll writing.

Stuff - DM Donna
Wednesday December 7th, 2005 8:30:45 PM

K'Nara sighs.

"I have to wait until tomorrow, too," she says, "My usual allotment of spells conjured the unseen servants...so I've nothing left to cast--" Her hazel eyes squint at the sight of the old holy symbol.

"Why does that look familiar..?" she asks as Lian is handed the finely-crafted item. Something else that catches her eye: that leather-bound journal.

"Hmmm...it seems to be written in an older dialect of Common..." K'Nara points out as she eyes the first few pages...

Milo
Wednesday December 7th, 2005 8:59:00 PM

His job done, Milo returns to Olana's side, where he remains. Concern creases the halfling's brow as he sees to her comfort.

Olana
Wednesday December 7th, 2005 9:57:43 PM

The elf moves to the new position, and sits. Here is a new viewpoint, and the scene changes as the others move in front of her, or away. No sense of danger. Not now.
Her eyes, like dark glass, sweep over Milo's features close by. They stay cold, while the rest of her face attempts to mimic his concern. Muscle memory. Habit.

Gunther
Wednesday December 7th, 2005 11:33:03 PM

The cat trainer scratches himself idly. "Vell den, I suppose I deres no need in staying up. I'm bushed. I tink I'll go get myself some rest."

Brother Bertram
Thursday December 8th, 2005 3:03:47 AM

Bertram keeps an eye on Olana as some of the others sort through the chest.

Falin
Thursday December 8th, 2005 8:17:23 AM

"I think I will follow suit with Gunther and go to sleep myself. Has been a long night-day thing."

Falin will go to whatever area he had picked out for sleeping and lay out. As he drifts off his thoughts are filled with flying skulls and of darkness...

As the night continues Falin's dreams become more and more horrific. "Not my flesh... Not my flesh." He can be heard mumbling through the night along with some other unintelligible phrases.

As the moon dawns Falin's dreams become more real to him and he wakes in a fit of sreams that thrashing about. As if his very life depended on him waking up. He wakes with his eyes wide and covered in sweat. "The flying skulls haught my dreams." He says in an almost unaudible whisper as his hands clench and unclench around the blanket he slept on.

Lian
Thursday December 8th, 2005 10:44:25 AM

"Fine work Milo." Smiles the elf.

He turns his attention to the holy symbol. "Don't know. The symbol seems to remind me of some long ago. Maybe a former life or something." There is something odd in how he says this sentence.
He casts detect magic on this lot of goods, concentrating on the symbol specifically.

(OOC: What size are the set of four flat iron bars?)

Details, Details... - DM Donna
Thursday December 8th, 2005 9:56:08 PM

Looking over the items with a more discerning eye, the party members who do so find more clues:

The longsword is a fantastic piece of craftsmanship--it has the name Rightbite inscribed along the blade in an elegant script (in Common).

The axe is heavy and seems to made of black iron-like metal--if it's steel, it's a rather crude mix, yet it is amazingly devoid of rust or pits.

The golden metal of the chainmail armor seems to defy easy identification--at least, it isn't easily identifiable by merely inspecting it. It, too, is of astounding craftsmanship.

The set of four flat iron bars are about 14 inches or so long and about an inch or so thick...and each of them have a button on one end.

The suede pouch holds four blocks of incense that smells of sandalwood and sage.

The linen pouch has three ceramic jars (palm-sized) with silver screw-on tops.

The quill case has two quills in it.

The white horse seems to be a carving-in-progress (substance could be ivory.)

The clothes look like they'd fit a human of about six feet in height but rather broad in the chest. Several of the items are very nicely mended.

The bottle of ink is dry.

K'Nara is now sitting, cross-legged, on the floor, intensely interested in the journal as she pours over page after page...

Milo
Friday December 9th, 2005 12:57:55 AM

Milo nods appreciatively toward Lian, but maintains his place near Olana.

Lian
Friday December 9th, 2005 3:19:42 AM

Lian concentrates his detect magic on the holy symbol.

"These items are interesting."

Ingrge
Friday December 9th, 2005 2:08:32 PM

So Betram, fancy yourself another axe to carry around?

Brother Bertram
Friday December 9th, 2005 4:47:31 PM

Bertram smiles at Ingrge, "Ah but what axe could hope to compete with the one I have now, Friend Ingrge?" He looks at the axe with interest, wondering what marvelous secrets it might hold.

Olana
Friday December 9th, 2005 9:26:10 PM

The muscles on Olana's face relax, having forgotten why, or being merely tired from the exercise of showing concern.
She stares ahead.

A Tale to Tell... - DM Donna
Friday December 9th, 2005 9:37:45 PM

"This is rather interesting..." K'Nara says suddenly from her position on the floor, "...apparently this is a journal of some paladin of Alemi...a guy named Roderigo Montoya..."

She begins to read aloud from the tome:

"My guide has proven as good as his word. Though I was loath to trust the word of a goblin it seems I was wrong to be so suspicious. He has indeed brought me to the foothills of the mysterious realm known only as Harrowed Moon.

When I began my quest to bring the Holy Word of Alemi to the forsaken souls of these far-flung Realms I anticipated that I would encounter horror and evil. I had heard rumours that this place was a province of Marteaus, ruled by some terrifying witch of his, that the populace were brutal, savage servants of their dark mistress. Terror was expected. What I did not expect was to be met with such serene, still beauty.

This land is a marvel. Beneath her eternal lilac moon the Realm exists like some bewitching twilight dream, her palette of purples, blues and deep velvet blacks a soothing tonic to the mind. I don't ever recall having felt so calm.

Everything here is strange. The air carries countless wonderful musky aromas whose source I can only guess at. Crystalline outcroppings tower over still, mercurial pools. There are many curious moulds and fungi which seem to flourish in this half light, delicate and elaborate. I must collect some specimens to examine further. My guide, clearly a superstitious type, claims that the plant life here can move towards light! I am looking forward to learning more of the folktales of these simple, happy people.

That has been perhaps my greatest surprise. To find a community made up primarily of Goblins and Trolls living in peace, harmony and happiness! I would have never believed that such base creatures were capable of building such a successful community. By all accounts they have their Queen, the Lady Fidelia to thank for their conversion to civilization. They speak of her in glowing, even loving terms, and I am looking forward to meeting with her. The horror stories I was told are quite clearly the tall tales of the ignorant. After rest I shall visit her Twilight Palace. I am certain that with reasoned persuasion and pure heart she will prove a powerful convert to Great Alemi's cause."

Gunther
Friday December 9th, 2005 11:02:09 PM

The warrior listens sleepily as K'nara reads from the journal. "Vell dat's interesting." he says half heartedly. "Nice to know dat somevon else tinks dis place is as nice as ve tink it is." Gunther eyes the new treasure admiringly, but knows better than to mess with any of it. He remembers all too well the time that Orlash tried on a belt from a treasure horde they'd found... It was amazing how many hours it took to refit and mold Orlashina's armor to her new from once she was transformed into a she-orc!

Milo
Saturday December 10th, 2005 2:12:52 AM

"Are there any entries made in the journal after that, K'nara? I'd be curious of his impressions of the Lady herself." Milo looks up expectantly.

Falin
Saturday December 10th, 2005 6:56:16 AM

Falin raises hmself up on an elbow as he listens to K'Nara read the passage.

"Sounds as if he had been in this very village. Unless there are others of this kind through the surrounding area."

As he lowers himself back down he notices the armor. "You know, that armor strikes a remarkable resemblance to my own."

He pulls back one of his shirt sleeves to reveal a chain mail made of a golden metal of exquisite quality.

Brother Bertram
Sunday December 11th, 2005 9:26:28 PM

"Evidently a rather dead paladin of Alemi, Friend K'nara", Bertram points out. I still would urge great caution when approaching this 'Lady'".

Lian
Monday December 12th, 2005 11:04:13 AM

The hand of Domi raises an eyebrow. "Interesting."

Olana
Monday December 12th, 2005 3:55:48 PM

Olana sits passively. Her ears are listening to the story, and a disengaged mind picks up a random phrase.
'Guh... goblins.... and trollz,' she whispers, rolling the 'r' in 'troll' for no apparent reason.

The Mystery Deepens - DM Donna
Monday December 12th, 2005 11:31:18 PM

K'Nara thumbs through the pages of the well-worn journal.

"There's some other stuff in here about how his dreams seem to be getting creepy..." the leader of the Talons says, "...though he seems to describe meeting Lady Fidelia as 'a favored encounter with gentility and grace, and an exceedingly thoughtful countenance'..." She trails off as she reads intently.

Falin's comparison of the suit of chainmail does, indeed, seem to point out the amazing similarities in the two metallic items.

Gunther
Tuesday December 13th, 2005 1:51:29 AM

Quite unexpectedly, the warrior begins to doze off...a slight snore emerging from his lips occasionally.

Lian
Tuesday December 13th, 2005 10:49:56 AM

Sensing some sort of confusion in her voice, Lian looks up at Olana and says softly. "There are no trolls or goblins near by friend Olana. Stay calm. We are safe."

Ingrge
Tuesday December 13th, 2005 1:15:53 PM

Showing some interest in what is being read, Ingrge sighs outloud and turns to Knara.

"K'nara, Cut to the chase and read the last entry already. Everything sounds just tooo pleasant and comfortable. Which usually leads to everybody dying."

Olana
Tuesday December 13th, 2005 9:59:58 PM

The elf's face swivels toward Lian, and her shark-dead eyes stare at him.

Milo
Wednesday December 14th, 2005 1:00:39 AM

Milo listens intently to K'nara as she reads from the book, though he has nothing to say regarding its contents, which seem to be benign. At the same time, he keeps a watchful eye on Olana, who seems to be reacting somewhat to the world around her on some level.

Last, But Not Least - DM Donna
Wednesday December 14th, 2005 1:05:17 AM

K'Nara raises an eyebrow when Gunther nods off, but she really can't blame him. The journal was getting rather boring.

Ingrge's suggestion has the chestnut-maned blade singer flip over to the back of the book and eye the pages.

"This is odd..." she says, pointing to the raggedy edges of paper, "...the last page of the journal is ripped out." K'Nara squints at the entry that is left.

"Seems that the paladin was getting paranoid." she informs those still awake. "He writes of hearing odd noises in the night outside the Twilight Palace and an increasing sense of dread...he complains of feeling 'a yawning chasm between myself and the great mercy of Alemi'...he writes that he plans to ask Lady Fidelia if she would grant permission for building a shrine to Alemi in the morning. Then..." Her voice trails off, and she points to the torn pages of the journal.

Brother Bertram
Wednesday December 14th, 2005 4:02:52 AM

"Then he woke up in the morning with his throat cut no doubt.. We are in great peril my friends."

Falin
Wednesday December 14th, 2005 4:30:14 AM

"That sounds about right Bertram. We will need to keep our wits about us and rely on one another for support while we are here. Not let anyone try to drive a wedge between us."

Lian
Wednesday December 14th, 2005 5:34:34 PM

Lian looks at Olana and then addresses Falin directly. "And some wits seem to be on permanent sabatical." He nods toward Olana.

"Brother Bertram does have a point though. The paladin doesn't seems to have completed the journal and we have to assume the last date in the book wasn't yesterday. Whether he lost his life or his mind isn't really the question, 'How?' would seems more appropriate. And why?"

Olana
Wednesday December 14th, 2005 7:21:56 PM

Lots of talking, now. Confusing. Olana's head moves this way and that, trying to keep up and failing miserably.

Brother Bertram
Wednesday December 14th, 2005 8:01:07 PM

Bertram shrugs, "I am sure the paladin would have a different view on whether his losing his life versus his wits mattered but we can discuss that over ale after we leave. 'How' concerns me greatly, 'Why' is for later after we get out of this forsaken land."

Night into...Twilight - DM Donna
Wednesday December 14th, 2005 9:07:48 PM

K'Nara closes the book, frowning.

"This place is more than it appears...or less, if you consider the reduced influence of certain gods..." she nods at Brother Bertram and Lian, who have both noted the weakened connection to Domi. "...but we have seemed to have found a safe haven for now. Let's take advantage of it and rest up."

Although the Talons are still assigned watches, the night they spend as guests of Bonecrusher passes uneventfully. "Morning" comes with the rising of the lilac moon and Bonecrusher's departure to go to the town well and also visit the village baker and butcher shops.

"This is the day of the week that we can get vole chops!" the troll announces brightly before he goes.

Now the Talons can turn their attentions towards the mysterious items found in the chests...

Any changes in spell lists must be turned in to the DM by Sunday, December 18th.

Milo
Wednesday December 14th, 2005 9:45:00 PM

Milo takes note of his friends general paranoia, though he doesn't share in the sentiment. There could be any number of reasons why the last page was torn out. There is no reason to suspect the worse, just because it is. He spends nearly every waking moment attending to Olana and her needs.

Ingrge
Wednesday December 14th, 2005 10:02:30 PM

See what did I tell you. Only bad things come out of diaries and the such. Lets get sme shut eye and Knara and I will id some of this stuff in the morning.

The elf considers the fact they aren't all dead already, to be a good omen.

He sleeps with unease tonight.

He prepares his spells in the morning then realizes that he hasn't seen Merlot in weeks. He wonders how his old friend is faring.

The monk does his morning Khata excercises and then meditates until the others wake.

He then helps with the chests.

Olana
Thursday December 15th, 2005 7:48:14 PM

Milo will no doubt have his work cut out for him with Olana, who is currently a messy eater, choosing meat, when and if it's available, over anything else. There seems to be some kind of basic instinct in there, taking care of the essentials, but all the finer points are not being tended to at all. She has not touched her hair once. Not once. Nor used an eating utensil.

Another Morning After - DM Donna
Friday December 16th, 2005 1:04:28 AM

Between Ingrge and K'Nara, the magic items within the stash found in the two chests are discovered to be:

The sword inscribed "Rightbite": +3 silver Long sword--it seems to be an axiomatic bane vs. undead. Its scruffy scabbard is actually a scabbard of Keen Edges.

The axe is a +3 Holy Axe of Thundering.

The golden chainmail is a suit of +4 Celestial Armor.

That battered backpack is actually a Heward's Handy Haversack.

The twisted gold-and-silver band is a ring of major resistance to fire.

The set of four flat iron bars (w/small button on one end) are actually Immovable Rods.

One pouch contains four blocks of Incense of Meditation; the other has three jars of Keoghtum's Ointment.

None of the other items are in the least magical...although that holy symbol is probably valuable for its silver content--maybe even for how old it appears to be.

Falin
Friday December 16th, 2005 10:54:08 AM

"That was a good nights sleep," yawns Falin. "If you don't count the hundreds of skulls that were flying towards me in my sleep trying to drag me into the shadowlands..."

Loooking over the booty Falin comments, "That is quite a nice haul of stuff. Now, who can use it the best?"

Brother Bertram
Friday December 16th, 2005 2:25:24 PM

"Any of us can use that backpack Friend Falin, especially right now with all of this that we carry. I personaly would be interested unless someone else has an interest in it."

Lian
Friday December 16th, 2005 2:55:08 PM

"That ring sure is a pretty bobble, isn't it?" He says with interest.
Then he turns his gaze to Olana. "Well, perhaps she can use it until she comes around."

Ingrge
Friday December 16th, 2005 7:47:44 PM

I think Figment should get the ring eventually when he gets back. He is more of an ice mage and fire is definitely not his element.

I am fine for now and have need of nothing else for now, unless you want me to carry one of the ointments for party use. As to the other two ointments I think we should have different people carry them so more people have access to their potential use.

Olana
Friday December 16th, 2005 9:53:25 PM

'Bobble,' says Olana with a deadpan expression, and she pulls Milo's hair lightly.

Milo
Saturday December 17th, 2005 2:15:54 AM

Milo stops suddenly, looking at Olana's hands for other magic rings, then looks up to the group, "If no one else cares to wear the ring, I think Olana likes it, if for no other reason, because its shiny." Milo looks quite serious.

Lian
Saturday December 17th, 2005 5:58:23 PM

"The incense might be nice."

Dividing the Resources - DM Donna
Monday December 19th, 2005 10:02:09 PM

"Agreed, Ingrge," K'Nara nodded to the elven weapon mage, "But--since Figment isn't here at the moment--we may as well let Olana have it...Milo's right in pointing out that it seems to have caught her attention." She looked over the sword with a wistful eye.

"Too bad this is a longsword." K'Nara said with a rueful smile. "But it surely would make someone a good weapon..." She nudges Brother Bertram.

"You more than deserve to have whatever may catch your eye, good cleric," the blade singer told him, "So take the haversack, then." K'Nara also places the pouch of incense into Lian's hands.

"Ingrge's volunteered to take up a jar of ointment--who else would carry one..?" asked the leader of the Talons.

Falin
Tuesday December 20th, 2005 6:01:41 AM

As Falin gets his gear ready for the day he whistles to himself. It is a tune that seems to mix both grief and happiness.

"This is an old tune that my family used to play during long cold nights. Somehow it felt right to me here. It just felt like it brought some of home here." He pauses for a second and returns to his gear.

At K'Nara's talk of the resources Falin makes a request. "I would like one of the rods if there is enough to go around."

Milo
Tuesday December 20th, 2005 9:31:04 AM

"Perhaps you should carry all four rods Falin, since they are most useful when used together."

Lian
Tuesday December 20th, 2005 8:53:22 PM

"Milo, what do those rods do? You seem to know about them. They seem unusual." He asks halfling.

Milo
Tuesday December 20th, 2005 9:24:38 PM

"When I worked for the guild they were used to climb in places where climbing would not normally be possible." Milo removes the rods, and demonstrates how they can be used to form a ladder in mid-air, "Like so. I wear slippers of spider climbing in such instances, but these may be useful for the group. You can also tie something off to one of these babies, such as a rope... or even a ship at sea."

Olana
Tuesday December 20th, 2005 10:34:27 PM

Milo will note that Olana has a ring on one hand but not the other.
She stares at the new ring for a little while, then closes her eyes, as if tired.

Stuff to Go Around - DM Donna
Wednesday December 21st, 2005 10:24:59 AM

Falin finds himself the holder of four Immovable Rods.

"There is still the sword, the axe, the armor and two other jars of ointment..." K'Nara points out. "Any takers..?"

Falin
Wednesday December 21st, 2005 10:42:14 AM

"If someone is thinking about the armor I might add that is very comfortable and form fitting. It is light enough that I can wear it right under my existing clothes and no one is the wiser." And then with a smile, "It lets me fly too."

Lian
Wednesday December 21st, 2005 2:00:01 PM

"I see..." He nods thanks to Milo.

"I'll take the ointments."

Brother Bertram
Wednesday December 21st, 2005 7:45:00 PM

Bertram takes the sword from K'nara and examines it carefully. He compares it to his axe with great care.

Olana
Wednesday December 21st, 2005 10:10:55 PM

Olana continues to sit still with her eyes closed. What goes on inside her head, is anybody's guess.

Lian
Thursday December 22nd, 2005 4:28:08 PM

"Maybe the axe, armor and sword can be put in the Haversack."

Ingrge
Thursday December 22nd, 2005 7:42:34 PM

Well I can use the sword, but I really won't be nearly as effective as with my staves.

Apples and Oranges...Or, Rather, Swords and Axes - DM Donna
Friday December 23rd, 2005 12:38:40 AM

The cleric of Domi and Gargul inspects the silver weapon very closely, noting as he does so that it is old, very well crafted and was cared for extremely well. Someone valued the weapon highly, as its extremely good condition can attest. Yet, for all that it is obviously a silver weapon and, thus, a rather expensive one--it is quite clear that it was also well-used.

"Don't feel you MUST take it..." K'Nara adds to her previous statements, "...it's just that this particular blade seems to be...so...well...so obviously special." She frowns, trying to find the words for the intuitive feeling that nags the back of her mind. "It just seems to be a shame if nobody in our party could use it."

Lian
Friday December 23rd, 2005 10:16:53 AM

"I would look quite odd carrying the axe." He smiles.

Falin
Friday December 23rd, 2005 3:30:33 PM

"I can use a longsword I am just not very good at it. I more prefer my bow, but in retrospect we see where that has gotten me in the past." Falin says with a smile. "Usually on the flat of my back. I will take the longsword to see if it helps with my close quarters encounters."

Olana
Sunday December 25th, 2005 12:28:27 AM

Olana smiles in her sleep, so relaxed now that she might fall off her chair. Sights, scents and other sensations drift lawlessly around in her head, making their own conclusions.

Brother Bertram
Sunday December 25th, 2005 5:12:32 AM

Bertram nods to K'nara. "I will carry it and use it as best I may."

Gunther
Monday December 26th, 2005 6:02:13 PM

The swarthy warrior comes down from the treasure room rather late in the morning. Yawing and stretching as he gets himself some food. Noting the loot being divided up, Gunther rubs his eyes. "Vell, I'm not sure vether I could use dat armor or not, but if I can, it might be nice."

OOC...back and (mostly) ready for action. ;)

Milo
Monday December 26th, 2005 8:12:08 PM

Not interested in the sword, takes Olana somewhere she may lie down to rest. Morning is welcome when it arrives however.

Still Doing Stuff - DM Donna
Monday December 26th, 2005 10:38:40 PM

"...well, whatever it is you think you can use," K'Nara says, waving her hands at the magic items, "...go on and take it. We'll wait until we get home to do our usual system of dividing up stuff..."

OOC: please post exactly what--if anything--your particular PC takes from the available pile of identified items, which are as follows:

The sword inscribed "Rightbite": +3 silver Long sword--it seems to be an axiomatic bane vs. undead. Its scruffy scabbard is actually a scabbard of Keen Edges.

The axe is a +3 Holy Axe of Thundering.

The golden chainmail is a suit of +4 Celestial Armor.

One pouch containing two jars of Keoghtum's Ointment.

The antique silver holy symbol.

Lian
Monday December 26th, 2005 11:03:31 PM

The hand of Domi actually grabs the other ointment, now totalling three.

He waits to hear whats happening next.

Falin
Tuesday December 27th, 2005 2:43:59 AM

"I will take Rightbite as long as no one else will." After he waits for a second he takes and straps it around his waste.

OOC: Donna, I will get you an updated sheet with the things I got from the loot by end of the day (my time)

Gunther
Tuesday December 27th, 2005 2:58:42 AM

The warrior gratefully takes up the chainmail and quickly dons it. He grimaces at the unaccustomed feel of the metal so close to his skin, but quickly warms to the feel of the magically enhanced armor. "I alvays vanted to fly." he says as he grins at Falin. Then he turns his eye upon the axe still unclaimed. "Vell, I liked dat oder axe pretty vell...I guess I could try dis von out." Gunther picks up the axe and gives it a few practice swings.

OOC: Donna, what type of axe is it? A battleaxe or a greataxe or some other kind of axe? :)

DM OOC: my apologies: it's a battleaxe.

Lian
Wednesday December 28th, 2005 12:27:53 AM

"Who is carrying the armor?"

Olana
Wednesday December 28th, 2005 2:04:34 AM

"Alemi," says Olana matter-of-factly, awake now as Milo disturbs her, her eyes drifting around the room. "Shiny. Alemi."
She then lapses into silence.

Ingrge
Wednesday December 28th, 2005 9:01:38 AM

Ingrge just takes the one jar of ointment he already had and nothing else.

Lian
Wednesday December 28th, 2005 11:36:13 AM

Lian hands Ingrge the other ointment then looks at Olana. "Poor girl, she's just... just... its not right." He shakes his head.

"Too bad that armor isn't going to use..." He looks at Bertram and grins. "A dwarf might look awful cute in that. You know, real preeeetty. Might be mistaken for fey." The elf just sits, smirking at the dwarf.

Brother Bertram
Wednesday December 28th, 2005 11:42:29 AM

Bertram scratches at his beard, as if considering Lian's words seriously, then replies calmly. OR.....I could see if this sword could damage you faster than that salve could heal you...., just for the quest for knowledge of course." Bertram grins goes back to swinging the sword experimentally.

Falin
Wednesday December 28th, 2005 12:14:20 PM

Falin, hearing both Lian and Bertram arguing begins to laugh. For some reason he find humor in both of them arguing and he falls backward over his pack and lands flat on his back.

Still giggling and whiping tears from his eyes he says, "I needed that to cheer me up."

Gunther
Wednesday December 28th, 2005 11:28:25 PM

The warrior looks over at the joking Talons and then down at the armor that he just put on. He continues to practise with the axe, trying to figure out its balance and the best way to weild the weapon.

OOC Gunther has taken the armor and the axe.

Milo
Thursday December 29th, 2005 12:42:37 AM

Milo smiles at Olana, then turns and looks wistfully down at the antique holy symbol. "If nobody minds, I think Olana likes the holy symbol." If there are no objections, Milo picks up the holy symbol and fastens it around Olana's neck. The halfling's smile is sad indeed as he momentarily examines the religious relic. [OOC: Honestly not sure. Milo is reacting to whichever holy symbol Olana seems to be referring to. I forgot that you had taken one. oops]

Lian
Thursday December 29th, 2005 5:20:03 AM

Lian stops snickering at Falin's tumble.

Lian looks at the holy symbol around his own neck and says to Olana and Milo, "If she'd like it, thats okay. I'm actually rather fond of it. It is rather unique."
[Chris, I assume your referring to the silver holy symbol depicting three joined circles surrounded by a larger one? Lian grabbed that almost immediately. If not, my bad.]

DM Donna
Thursday December 29th, 2005 9:17:47 PM

For clarification purposes: there was only one antique silver holy symbol. Lian had stated he was interested in it, but had actually never physically picked it up. It has been determined that the holy symbol--while rather old--is NOT magic.

Now Lian, Milo & Olana can decide who will be carrying it.

Brother Bertram
Thursday December 29th, 2005 10:24:42 PM

Bertram grins at the feel of the sword, its balance as perfect as the edge. He swings it and the axe together getting a feel for two weapons.

Olana
Thursday December 29th, 2005 11:51:19 PM

The soulless elf looks with delight at the symbol. It is as though the more simple, more obvious things are able to register in her mind. Although how she really feels about it, and how she'd feel about it if she had her wits about her - is anyone's guess.

Gunther
Friday December 30th, 2005 2:31:49 AM

Gunther looks around at the others. "Vell...now dat dat is takin care of vat else can ve do to buy de time? Anyvan care for a qvick game of toss the boulder? Or hey...how 'bout pig wrestling?? It's really easy, I could teach it to you easy..." Gunther's face falls a bit. "Oh yeah...ve don't have a pig..."

Brother Bertram
Friday December 30th, 2005 9:36:32 AM

Bertram hides his grin from the big warrior, "Perhaps you and Friend K'nara would like some alone time?" He turns back to testing the sword quickly to hide his amusement.

Lian
Friday December 30th, 2005 11:32:15 AM

"The holy symbol does intrigue me friend Milo." Says the elf rather pointedly.

Gunther
Saturday December 31st, 2005 1:37:19 PM

The warrior looks over hopefully at K'nara, but then a small light goes on inside his head, and he turns back to the dwarf. "Or maybe ve should practice our unarmed combat again. I promise not to break your nose." the cat trainer taunts as he grins mischievously.

Milo
Monday January 2nd, 2006 11:24:25 PM

"Then you should wear it Lian. It is hard to say what is true and what is a passing fancy until we have Olana's mind restored." Milo smiles, and though he is obviously saddened by Olana's current state, he doesn't love the elf ranger any less.

ADM Jay B

OOC: It'll be awhile longer. I misplaced the module. Sorry for the inconvienince.

Lian

"Thank you Milo.

I do feel for you and Olana."

Lian
Tuesday January 3rd, 2006 5:49:12 AM

"I have been thinking. Since Olana hasn't been fighting and is... well, unable to fight or defend herself, we should figure out a way she'll be safe and a 'damsel(sp?) in distress'. I have a feeling she wouldn't want one of us dying because we were protecting her."

Olana
Tuesday January 3rd, 2006 7:32:17 PM

Olana doesn't seem to notice what happens with the symbol, because now her eyes are distracted by the to'ing and fro'ing of Bertram's sword.

Letter (ADM Jay B)
Wednesday January 4th, 2006 11:09:39 AM

OOC: Sorry friends, RL has been a bear for the past several weeks. Getting back into the swing after dad's accident. Getting used to him around. Not used to a roommate or extra noise yet.
-------------------------------------------------
Its finally decided who is carrying the loot.

Before you know it, lunch has arrived and your all in the common room eating, when Bonecrusher brings in a letter left for the group.
"Had a runner in this morn'ng, at 'bout 7th hour. Looks important."
Bonecrusher seems to be lingering about the table, hoping you'll open it so the innkeeper can sneak a peek.

Bonecrusher hands K'Nara a piece of folder parchment with a black wax seal depicting the stylized version of the letter 'A'.

When you open it it reads...

The she-elf's cure will be revealed if you meet me at the Mushroom Tree at the 10th hour.

A

"Tha's just a wee bit north of here." Says Bonecrusher quietly.

Lian
Wednesday January 4th, 2006 1:38:34 PM

"Perhaps this 'A' is an important person in this realm. Is that true innkeeper?"

Milo
Wednesday January 4th, 2006 9:02:42 PM

Milo's ears perk up at the letter's reading, and the intensity of the halfling's gaze says that he intends to make that meeting come hell or high water.

Brother Bertram
Wednesday January 4th, 2006 10:06:46 PM

Bertram shrugs, "Of course her interpretation might be death as a cure..... I still urge the greatest caution my friends. But we will go Friend Milo, for Friend Olana and for you."

Falin
Wednesday January 4th, 2006 10:35:08 PM

Falin appreciates the food when it arrives and he fills himself on the different foods. Letting each one set in his mouth just a little longer than normal in order to get each taste.

When the letter is brought in Falin puts his food down and listens. "It arrives at the 7th hour this morning? What hour is it now? Do we still have time to get there?" Falin asks with a bit of an excited edge on his voice.

Gunther
Thursday January 5th, 2006 12:07:22 AM

The warrior's brow nits as the letter is read. Sounds fishy. Still, it's not like they have any other choices. Grabbing his gear, Gunther stands at the door. "Let's get going." he says simply.

Olana
Thursday January 5th, 2006 12:58:39 AM

For Olana, eating doesn't seem half as much fun as trying to mimic Bonecrusher's facial expressions.

K'Nara
Thursday January 5th, 2006 1:03:50 AM

The tall chestnut-maned blade singer eyed the note. She, too, didn't trust it--too convenient and far too mysterious.

But, as Gunther pointed out, there wasn't much of a choice, either.

"Is it the 10th hour already?" K'Nara asked of the friendly troll. "Or has that time passed for today?"

Brother Bertram
Thursday January 5th, 2006 12:47:34 PM

"Domi forbid if we could get there first..... I would prefer to be ready and waiting when someone they show up if at all possible."

Bonecrusher's answer... (Adm Jay B)
Thursday January 5th, 2006 1:37:58 PM

"Tenth hour has passed (its lunch time now, so think 1130-12), but the runner said to give it to you at lunch... so I think that the meeting is meant for tomorrow at 10th hour. My apologies for the panic."

The innkeeper looks at the group. "I'm not sure, 'cause I've only seen that seal once b'fore quite awhile ago... but it looks like the Enforcer's mark. That is to say, Amalee's seal."

Bonecrusher begins sketching a rough map on a napkin. "This..." Pointing to a lop-sided rectangle. "...is the inn. This is the road North. The for'st and the tree is about here. Now, know this, the paths are enchanted and the woods don't like visitors, that is to say, strangers. Provided the for'st is hospitable, you should be there in an hour, maybe two... if your swift."

The large innkeeper shivers noticably. "I try to avoid that place as much as possible and I even tell the delivery folk that send us drink and food not to travel that road unless they have no other choice." The innkeeper drops the subject.
"Drinks!"

Lian
Thursday January 5th, 2006 1:56:09 PM

The monk listens intently. "Amalee? Some sort of law person?"

Ingrge
Thursday January 5th, 2006 4:05:44 PM

Umm what exactly is the "Mushroom Tree? Is it an inn or is it ctually a type of tree?" If it is an Inn I say we start off now and get there before evening and settle in at the inn to wait. If not I don't think I want to spend another night outdoors in this place and think we should leave at sunup.

Falin
Friday January 6th, 2006 7:01:00 AM

"That makes sense, Ingre, we could maybe check out the lay of the land as well."

At the mention of drink Falin takes one pint and nurses it for a while.

Lian
Friday January 6th, 2006 3:56:34 PM

"Yes. Good idea." He says in response to going and scouting.

ADM Jay B
Friday January 6th, 2006 3:57:09 PM

OOC: I will be posting about 3pm Pacific time.

Olana
Friday January 6th, 2006 6:44:13 PM

"Mushroom," says Olana, mimicing Ingrge.

Directions and Decisions (ADM Jay B)
Friday January 6th, 2006 7:22:31 PM

After receiving the map, the Talons seem to have a decision. Scout the Mushroom Tree.

"Well, I's just sayin' be careful on the road, friends." Says Bonecrusher. "Best of luck. Oh yes, the tree is a tree."

How do the Talons proceed?
Precautions.
Spells.
Marching order.
Departure time.

Gunther
Saturday January 7th, 2006 4:09:25 AM

Already set, the warrior waits for K'nara's say so before heading out on the road again.

Milo
Monday January 9th, 2006 12:02:10 AM

Milo looks about apprehensively, "I'll take point on this one K'nara if someone'll keep track of Olana. Seems we may need some forewarnin' if there is to be an ambush... or other local trouble."

Falin
Monday January 9th, 2006 6:32:22 AM

"Milo, if you will allow me I will watch her." offers Falin

K'Nara
Monday January 9th, 2006 7:51:23 AM

The human blade singer frowned, thinking very carefully about whether or not to leave Olana behind. Then she nodded to Falin.

"We'll take Olana with us," she said firmly, "Bad things keep happening when we leave our people behind--just don't forget that Olana won't be able to start or end anything on her own, Falin...if you tell her to take out her bow and fire, she will--but she won't know to stop until you actually say so."

The leader of the Talons also works out a marching order on the way to the Tree in the note:

Milo
K'Nara & Gunther
Brother Bertram
Falin & Olana
Lian & Ingrge

"We'll leave so that we can arrive at this Tree at least an hour ahead of the scheduled meeting time." K'Nara told the others.

Lian
Monday January 9th, 2006 11:15:35 AM

The monk follows the group, keeping pace with Ingrge. "So, Ingrge, how does it feel to be home?" He says with a sideways glance and a smirk.

Mushrooms? (ADM Jay B)
Monday January 9th, 2006 1:44:34 PM

When all is set, the Talons depart for the forest and the Mushroom tree on their scouting expedition. It is now about 13th hour or 1pm.

An hour out of town a forest of crystal plants and trees rise high around you and the road is darker than ever, even during mid-day. The only localized light, beyond anything your carrying, seems to be eminating from small crystaline fern-like formations along the way. Shadows dance and play in the forming mists (the mists are just thick enough to dampen your clothing but not hinder sight).
The trees are crystaline, as wonderful as blown glass and as detailed as the finest museum pieces, some so tall and thin its hard to understand how they simply don't crack and break. Small shards of the same crystal are strewn about like fallen leaves. They crunch softly under your feet. Since entering the forest there has been no animal, bird or basic insect seen. However, every so often a fluttering can be heard in the trees.

This all would be unsettling enough in a normal enviroment, but somehow in the pale moon light, crystal forest and creatureless landscape, this goes beyond eerie.

Ahead of you growing out of the thin mist rises a mushroom shaped crystaline tree, the most dominate tree for miles. There is an obvious clearing under its immense gem canopy. There is ample undergrowth to conceal virtually anything surrounding the clearing. The clearing itself is quite clear, but only a few crystal ferns and piles of glass leaves can be seen at this distance.

The Talons are now about 400 feet from the clearing.... it looks inviting.

Milo needs to make two Spot and Listen checks. Also, please tell me how far from the group are you planning to stray. Describe exactly what your planning on doing.

It also might be a good time for the Talons to describe their actions as well.

Please write anything of importance within your post.

ADM Jay B here, Jamie we understand, take care of the wife and wish her good health from me.

After gratefully accepting Falin's assistance, Milo moves quickly to point, about sixty feet ahead of the group. Wide-eyed at the sight of the crystal forest, the halfling rogue does his best to remain unseen given his unique environment, while taking everything in. (OOC: Made two spot checks at DCs 26 and 25, and two listen checks at DCs 26 and 27. Move silently DC 40 and Hide DC 26.)

Olana
Monday January 9th, 2006 8:50:49 PM

As they walk along, Olana keeps stopping and crunching more crystals underfoot. She seems captivated by the sound of it.

Crunch crunch crunch.

Ingrge
Monday January 9th, 2006 8:51:29 PM

as they approach the clearing Ingrge drinks a potion and then activates his staff and seems to be suddenly out of phase with his surroundings. (displacement) (Non-detection)

Brother Bertram
Monday January 9th, 2006 8:54:15 PM

Bertram moves along with the others, trying to spot anything that is a threat to them. The problem is that they dont recognize what is a threat in this new environ. He keeps his sword and axe handy, but is reluctant to pull them out amongst the trees of this 'living' forest. Fire and Blade would understandably upset a sentinent forest.

Gunther  d20+5=6 d20+1=20
Monday January 9th, 2006 10:51:38 PM

The warrior very much enjoys the walk with K'nara. His hand itches to reach out and grab hers, but he remembers the talk they had before, and it remains wrapped around the foreign axe...his two-bladed sword stored safely in his glove of holding...just in case. As he takes in the environment, Gunther is instantly suspious at the lack of animal sounds and he stops where he is, looking, listening and sniffing (Spot=nat. 1, Listen=20). "K'nara, I don't seeing anyting, but I don't like dis. It seems all wrong. Vat do you tink?" purrs the warrior to his battle buddy.

K'Nara  d20+1=12 d20+1=19
Monday January 9th, 2006 10:59:02 PM

The fiery-maned fighter suppressed a sigh--this jaunt through such an eerily beautiful landscape with Gunter by her side would almost be romantic...if she (and one or more of the other Talons) didn't have this nagging feeling that something was about to jump out at them.

'When we're back home,' she thought to herself, 'I definitely have to give Gunther some time...assuming we get back home, that is...'

The other warrior's question broke into her reverie, and she, too, glances around, eyes and ears straining.

"Hard to say..." K'Nara mused. (OOC: her Spot is only 12 but her Listen was 19.)

Falin
Tuesday January 10th, 2006 6:26:06 AM

"Olana, try to walk quietly." Falin whispers into her ear. "Don't know who is listening."

Falin gathers up some of the leaves and places them into his backpack. Thinking about looking at them later.

"This would be quite the beautiful place if it weren't for the circumstances." Says Falin quietly to Olana.

Crystal clear... (ADM Jay B)

Tuesday January 10th, 2006 8:40:03 AM

As the Talons continue forward, it is clear to Milo that the there is nothing in this forest other than a single stray owl passing overhead, which he spotted and a pair of reflecting eyes at Milo's eye level off to his left. At a second glance, they have gone.

Coming to the clearing, it is obviously ambush free. There is no sound other than a rustle of crystaline leaves above you.

If Olana wishes, she can make a move silently check.

Ingrge casts.

Wednesday January 11th, 2006 11:56:05 AM

The Talons search, more or less coming up empty.

Milo and Lian can hear Olana moving in the leaves.

Lian casts a spell.

The time is about 3 in the afternoon, or 15th hour.

Lian's search attempt fails.

How do you proceed?

Milo
Wednesday January 11th, 2006 8:42:19 PM

Looking around, Milo doesn't see anything inhospitable about the clearing, just strange. "I suppose we camp and wait at this point. Or we could come back tomorrow. It seems easy enough to find."

(OOC: I guess I misunderstood. I thought it was the day of. Oops. = ) )

Olana
Wednesday January 11th, 2006 11:59:08 PM

Olana stays quiet, shadowing Falin. Nothing to distract her. Yet.

Gunther
Thursday January 12th, 2006 12:32:44 AM

The warrior looks over at K'nara. "Vell den, I guess ve need a safe place to hang out until our meeting...if dat exists in dis place."

Lian
Thursday January 12th, 2006 7:00:53 AM

"K'Nara, I don't think staying here the night is a great idea."

Creepy, a little too Creepy...(ADM Jay B)
Thursday January 12th, 2006 7:12:25 AM

After staying and searching the area for awhile, all the elves in the party, especially Olana, start to feel irritable and anxious to leave. This unnatural place is beyond unsettling. Olana begins to walk out of the clearing unexpectedly.

Nothing of interest can be found. No evidence of habitation. No tracks or markings, besides the occassional aged wagon rut. No magical auras, beyond the group's own items and auras, can be decerned.

The owl passes over again and disappears in the forest.

Falin
Thursday January 12th, 2006 9:34:06 AM

As Olana turns and leaves Falin turns and closes with her.

"Olana, you need to stay next to me no matter what. If you want to go you need to tell me. It would make it easier to figure out what is going on in that mind of yours, but then again I guess that would be too easy." Falin says with a smile.

Brother Bertram
Thursday January 12th, 2006 1:27:12 PM

"Any reason to think that owl watching us is a random occurrence?," Bertram asks thoughtfully, keeping an eye on the owl's path.

Gunther
Thursday January 12th, 2006 3:31:33 PM

The warrior growls, this was getting annoying. "Vell, vere are ve going to stay?" he asks Lian in a mildly grumpy tone. He looks over at Bertram. "Probably not." then he looks over at K'nara. "You vant me to track it down?"

Ingrge
Thursday January 12th, 2006 7:17:37 PM

My bet is that the owl is not really an owl, or it is not a normal owl. It could be someones familiar or perhaps companion.

Ingrge continues to look around the unnatural area not really liking the feel of the place. The irritation finally hits its peak as Olanna wlaks off. Out of the blue Ingrge begins t speak.

"You know, I bet this place would really light up with a well place light spell."

Milo
Thursday January 12th, 2006 9:27:47 PM

An apologetic look on his face for pushing to come out here so early, Milo walks around the clearing, looking for a good place to settle in and rest. "A little light may not be a bad idea Ingrge." Milo's smile is somewhat weak.

K'Nara
Thursday January 12th, 2006 9:38:12 PM

"No, we are not going to spend the night out here!" K'Nara said a bit sharply--then Olana's attempted exit caught her eye.

"No, no, Olana--stay with us!" she bade the female elf, going over and snagging Olana by the elbow.

Olana
Thursday January 12th, 2006 11:06:15 PM

Olana's flat blue eyes tell Falin that the lights are on, but there's nobody home. Her face and body language register confusion however, and a little fear as K'Nara grabs her elbow.
But right now, she's not trying to run off any more.

Sights and sounds...(ADM Jay B)
Friday January 13th, 2006 9:16:24 AM

It is clear to most of the Talons that they should return to this clearing at the scheduled time tomorrow. Nothing has come of this.

The owl lands on a branch nearby and watches Bertram with interest.

A rustling noise comes from the brush near the perimeter of the clearing, then it stops abruptly.

Falin
Friday January 13th, 2006 1:50:58 PM

Falin turns towards the sound and stops. Waiting to see what is happening.

He looks at Olana, "Olana, kneel here while we wait to see what that noise is. Remember to stay next to me."

Brother Bertram
Friday January 13th, 2006 7:46:33 PM

Bertram turns to the owl and bows deeply, "Please bear our regards for your Master. We mean no harm while we are here." Raising, he nods his head politely at the creature and shrugs. He turns as they hear a noise, his hand falling on his weapons, but draws neither.

Gunther  d20+5=10 d20+1=11
Friday January 13th, 2006 11:21:28 PM

At the sound of the rustling, Gunther immediately drops to a crouch. Sniffing the air suspiciously, but he can't make out any source of trouble (Spot=10, Listen=11). He watches Bertram, wondering if anything in this place could bear them more than ill will. His axe swishes nervously, but he makes no move to engage.

Olana
Sunday January 15th, 2006 8:05:03 PM

Olana kneels down and her eyes follow everyone's movements.

Lian
Monday January 16th, 2006 10:03:20 AM

Lian also turns to the owl and addresses it.
"If you are someones companion, we're merely passing through.
If you are simply an owl, please, don't let us disturb your hunt."
He moves toward the sound in the brush and jumps toward it as if to scare something out of the trees and ferns.

Whooo! Whoo? (ADM Jay B)
Monday January 16th, 2006 10:06:39 AM

The owl's movements don't seem to be guided by another, but in this place, one never can tell. The owl lifts off and disappears in the night not to be seen again.

The source of the rustling bush has gone, whatever or whoever it was.

Milo
Monday January 16th, 2006 6:40:12 PM

"So, what is the word? Do we spend the night, or come back tomorrow?" I'm good either way.

K'Nara
Monday January 16th, 2006 9:52:05 PM

"We go and return just before the meeting time." K'Nara said firmly. "I know that this road is safe enough, but the night sounds of this place are enough to drive one mad with fear and paranoia. Let's get back to Reston."

Brother Bertram
Monday January 16th, 2006 9:55:51 PM

Bertram shrugs, and shoulders his pack, ready to do as he is bid. He keeps an eye out for the owl, or anything else that seemed to be watching them.

Gunther  d20+5=17 d20+1=7
Monday January 16th, 2006 11:16:35 PM

The warrior grumbles, unhappy about not finding out anything and certainly not thrilled about the environment. He casts his eyes about the area as they head back (Spot=17, Listen=7) absolutely sure that at any moment skulls are going to come shrieking down on them.

Olana
Tuesday January 17th, 2006 12:35:20 AM

Knelt on the ground, as the others talk over her head, Olana's fingers explore the ground around her.

Falin
Tuesday January 17th, 2006 9:46:40 AM

"Come on Olana, lets get going. We are going back to that nice village until tomorrow. Then we are going to come back here." says Falin.

He helps his friend to her feet and begins to lead her back ot the village.

A return to Reston to rest until the return.... ADM Jay B
Tuesday January 17th, 2006 3:45:34 PM

The Talons soon find themselves back in Reston on the orders of Knara.

The group encounters no owls or other 'things' on the road back.

They enter the inn and are greeted by Bonecrusher, who seemed to doubt they would return at all. "Drinks? Dinner."

It is about 17th hour, or 5pm.

All the elves in the party are feeling much better.

Lian
Tuesday January 17th, 2006 3:50:19 PM

"Well, dinner sounds great."

Ingrge
Tuesday January 17th, 2006 4:59:00 PM

Hmmph, at least we should know if anything is different when we return in the morning.

Olana
Wednesday January 18th, 2006 1:01:08 AM

Olana does as she's told, occasionally latching on to the odd word and repeating it back to her companions.
Back at the inn -
"Hmmph," she says to Ingrge.

Brother Bertram
Wednesday January 18th, 2006 4:05:13 AM

Bertram thinks about how much he would like to be home. It wasnt the danger, so much as the strangeness of this desolate place.

Milo
Wednesday January 18th, 2006 8:58:01 AM

Milo sits quietly in the inn, his face schooled into a mask of passive disinterest. Inside however, the halfling is a ball of furious worry. The main concern being, 'Why would the keepers of such a grove be interested in helping them out of their dilemma.'

Falin
Wednesday January 18th, 2006 9:39:28 AM

Looking around the inn Falin thinks to himself I never thought I would feel at home in an inn surounded by a town of orcs and goblins. He scans the area and finds a nice place to sit and relax. His tension level has been so high since the interlude with the flying skulls.

Passage of time... seems long, don't it... (ADM Jay B)
Wednesday January 18th, 2006 10:39:47 AM

Conversation. Silence. Long silences. Bonecrusher watches you from afar, afraid to ask what was seen by the tree.

Time seems to snail by; dinner, then what passes as dusk, then patrons go off to bed and soon it is the midnight. In as little as ten hours, most of your current questions may, or may not, be answered.

Bed might ease the tension a little. Or not.

Lian
Wednesday January 18th, 2006 10:40:39 AM

"I am off to bed." The monk slides away to dream of home.

Brother Bertram
Wednesday January 18th, 2006 12:47:54 PM

Bertram watches several of the others head to bed as he sits sharpening his axe carefully, making sure it is ready for anything they might face on the morrow. He sits a stool in the corner of the room, with a view of the door. He settles back and watches, and waits, and prays.

Falin
Wednesday January 18th, 2006 1:13:03 PM

"I am off to bed too. Going to try to get up early to prepare myself for the morning jaunt." Falin stands and goes to the room.

Milo
Wednesday January 18th, 2006 10:39:33 PM

Lacking any appetite, Milo sees that Olana has the opportunity to eat, and spends the evening seeing to her needs, food and rest.

K'Nara
Wednesday January 18th, 2006 10:48:39 PM

"Let's take our rest as we may." K'Nara said, suddenly weary beyond belief. "Hopefully that meeting tomorrow will actually help us out with Olana." She got up and started for her room, then suddenly siezed Gunther by the front of his tunic and hauled him up against her, planting a quick, hard kiss on one corner of his mouth.

"Just so that you know for sure--" K'Nara clarified with a smile and a wink, "--YES, I do like you...a LOT...and, yes, I do hope we can take this further once we're back home."

Then the blade singer went to her room.

Alone.

Olana
Wednesday January 18th, 2006 11:26:15 PM

During the night, Olana doesn't sleep much, but spends most of the time curled up tight against Milo while chewing on tendrils of her hair.

Gunther
Thursday January 19th, 2006 12:19:46 AM

The warrior is caught completely off gaurd by K'nara's attack. "I...uhhh....mhhhmm..." The most comical look of confusion mixed with desire is firmly plastered on his face. "Hhhome....yeah, I'd like dat." he stammers as K'nara marches off to her room. He follows in a daze, shuffling like a zombie and parks himself outside of K'nara's door, unsure of how to behave. She'd made it clear that she wanted him...maybe she was trying to be coy...really wanting him to come in. But wait...what about what she said before? Oh gods why does this have to be so complex??!! Gunther rubs his temple, the tingling there signaling the promise of a headache. Awash in confusion, Gunther curls up in the fetal position against the seal of K'nara's door and listens under the frame as she heads off to sleep. Unfortunately, her deepening breathing does nothing but stir up his desire for the bladesinger, and eventually Gunther gives up and heads back to the treasure room where he rolls around uncomfortably trying to calm his mind.

Brother Bertram
Thursday January 19th, 2006 3:57:40 AM

Bertram watches as the light fades, and his friends drift away to slumber. He sits with his axe in the corner, with the light darkened, keeping watch over his family.

Lian
Thursday January 19th, 2006 11:42:56 AM

As he heads for bed, he turns at the slurping sound. Lian smiles as Gunther's desires begin to play out.

He goes to bed.

Morning (ADM Jay B)
Thursday January 19th, 2006 12:16:21 PM

As the Talons head to bed, feelings are FINELY revealed.

Some sleep well. Others likely toss and turn.

It is 7th hour as the Talons wake. Breakfast is usually available in the Inn by 730.

Olana
Thursday January 19th, 2006 10:37:20 PM

At the 7th hour, Olana can be found sat quietly awake next to Milo, her legs crossed in front of her, relaxed, and staring out at nothing.

Falin
Friday January 20th, 2006 12:25:37 AM

"7th hour already?" Sighs Falin. "I didn't hardly sleep. My thoughts were filled with evil thoughts. I just don't like this place when I am sleeping."

He gets up and stretches and begins to gether his things and put his armor on. Getting ready for the walk again this morning.

He decides to skip breakfast this morning. Opting only for some water.

Lian
Friday January 20th, 2006 11:28:38 AM

The monks elven meditation also doesn't go well. However, he finds time to reprepare spells. (Same list as last time.)

Prep... (ADM Jay B)
Friday January 20th, 2006 11:38:02 AM

The Talons prepare for what is going to be an uncertain day.

The Talons wait to K'nara to give the word to head out. Soon the Talons are back on the road.

Prepare spells if you wish.

[If you wish to do something specific before heading back to the clearing, let me know.]

Ingrge
Friday January 20th, 2006 5:15:42 PM

Shaking his head the older elf makes his way to the sleeping quarters to rest and meditate. and in the morning has time to review his spells for the day.

Gunther
Saturday January 21st, 2006 12:09:51 AM

Continually rubbing his bloodshot eyes, Gunther lopes along happily beside K'nara...the taste of her lips still on his. His mind is far, far away from this place as his feet carry him forward...forward into her arms...his nose nuzzling her neck...his hands gently rubbing her shoulders....

Brother Bertram
Saturday January 21st, 2006 1:58:29 PM

As the others begin stirring, Bertram pushes himself off the stool, his bones creaking in protest from sitting for so long. He had dozed but briefly, feeling a strong need to keep watch over his companions. He readies himself for the coming confrontation.

Milo
Sunday January 22nd, 2006 8:03:49 PM

Leaving Olana in Falin's care once again, Milo takes point, leading the party back to the clearing. He remains about forty feet in front of his friends, with eyes and ears alert for danger.

Falin  d20=15
Monday January 23rd, 2006 1:27:48 AM

As Milo leaves Olana in his care he tells him, "Milo thank you for trusting me with her. I will not let anything happen to her."

He takes 10 foot length of rope from his bag and ties one end to his belt and the other to Olanna's belt (15 to tie the rope). He looks at Olana and says, "You need to follow me close again today. I am tying this here so that nothing happens to you or if it does I will know about it." The elf shakes his head for a second. "Hopefully we will be able to find a way to return you to the way you used to be."

After everything is tied off tightly he follows the rest and keeps one eye on Olanna and the other on the path in front of him.

Fate of a friend... (ADM Jay B)
Monday January 23rd, 2006 10:28:34 AM

The Talons head out, seemingly forgetting breakfast and getting under way. It is almost the 8th hour by the time you set out.

The going is slow this morning. The heavy mist last night soaked the ground and the muck is thick. Tracking is easy however. Milo has no problem figuring out that nothing has traveled this road this morning.

The forest is still silent. There is no prescence of the owl today.

You finally arrive back in the same clearing, which is unchanged and void of anything besides your group. It is about 930.

The wind rustles the crystaline leaves above you. Severel fall with a whisper.

You wait and wait. It is a very long 30 minutes. But then, suddenly, almost to the minute, a sound is heard in the distance on the path.

Listen and Spot checks please. Remember, lighting isn't great. Consider it to be a moonlit morning.

He gets into a defensive stance. (Full Defense)

Brother Bertram
Monday January 23rd, 2006 12:55:01 PM

Bertram grips the hilt of his sword with one hand, the other fingers the knot holding his axe in place. One quick pull and it would be in his hand. He tries his sight against the morning to see what he can, not just down the path, but behind them and to the sides as well.

Falin hears something and backs off the path a bit, taking Olana with him.

"Stay right next to me Olana." Flain whispers to Olana. "Please stay right next to me. You will stay safe."

Falin's hand strays to the rope he used to tie Olana to himself making sure it is still attached. Looking over at Olana he makes sure it is still attached to her belt. Can't have her wandering off.

He pulls his bow off his shoulder and waits.

Olana
Monday January 23rd, 2006 10:55:01 PM

Olana watches Falin tie the rope with a slight interest, but nothing more. On the journey back to the tree, Falin may occasionally feel the rope pull taut with a jolt as Olana is distracted by falling leaves, which she tries to catch in outstretched fingers.

She also interprets 'stay right next to me' quite literally, standing shoulder to shoulder with her fellow elf, as though she is stuck to him with glue.

A rider in the dark... (ADM Jay B)
Tuesday January 24th, 2006 9:07:17 AM

Several take up defensive postures.

Falin hears something, but he's looking in the opposite direction. He does his best to keep from stepping on Olana.

Lian's search turns up nothing of value, other than the fact the sight hasn't changed since they were here last night.

Bertram, as always, expects the worst.

Ingrge's eyes pierce the night as he waits in the shadows.

Gunther is looking in the right direction, but hears only a faint sound.

Lian and Milo can both make out the distinct sound of one heavy horse moving rather fast down the path toward.

The sound is penetrating. You can feel it in your stomach.

Milo can just make out the shape of a massive horse and its average sized rider through the haze.

You have several seconds (a round) before the rider is on you. What is your course of action?

IN COMING!!!! (ADM Jay B)
Wednesday January 25th, 2006 1:37:14 PM

Ingrge's web goes off without a hitch. A very beautiful web stretching from tree to tree.

The thundering continues and then stops briefly. Without warning, a massive dark hoarse and its rider soar (yes, 20+ feet) OVER the web and come to an earth shaking Thud!.

The horse is at least eight feet tall, with a long mane and trunk-like legs. It wears thick leather barding.

The average sized rider slides gracefully from the horse, landing lightly on their booted feet, with their cloaked back facing you, face buried deeply within the hood.
It turns smoothly toward Ingrge. "That wasn't very nice." Says a polite female voice.

The hood is thrown off and the hood reveals a fair face human female. She wears black leather armor emblazoned with an 'A'.

"Forgive the tardiness." She bows slightly. "I am Amalee, Fidelia's Enforcer, the local Sheriff in Harrowed Moon. It is my business to know the strangers who enter it." Seems this was meant as a question. She awaits an answer, eyeing each Talon avidly.

Facing K'nara, she says still smiling, "Perhaps your halfling would be polite enough to come out of the shadows. I might take his intent as... criminal."

Brother Bertram

K'Nara
Wednesday January 25th, 2006 2:07:20 PM

Snapping out of her momentary daze, K'Nara lifted a hand and gestured with it, beckoning Milo out from his customary position of caution without taking her hazel eyes from the woman in front of her.

"Forgive us if we seem...jumpy." the leader of the Talons said coolly. "We are newly arrived to Harrowed Moon...and we already met some of the...less friendly natives of the place." The tall redhead put out her right hand.

"I am K'Nara Illutu, and these are my friends," she told Amalee, nodding around at the others, "Brother Bertram...Ingrge...Lian...Falin...Gunther...Milo...and Olana, the one whom your note said you could tell us how to help."

Ingrge

Wednesday January 25th, 2006 11:13:07 PM

Not liking the look of this woman Falin continues to keep himself between Olana and the new arrival. He will continue to keep his arrow knocked and keep an eye on their new arrival.

Olana
Thursday January 26th, 2006 12:42:44 AM

Olana stands directly behind Falin. The sounds and scents of the new arrival seem to be enough to cope with right now, and so she raises her head and sniffs the air. If she has seen the woman on horseback, she gives no sign of acknowledgement.

The sheriff... (ADM Jay B)
Friday January 27th, 2006 1:48:55 PM

The horse stomps and snorts.

She ignores Milo. "This one can't take a joke I see. You are indeed strangers here."

She approaches K'nara and guides her slowly from the group, eying Falin and then Lian. She speaks in an undertone so only K'Nara can hear.
"I see we are kindred spirits. I also guide those who require it. My deputies." She says. "Can I speak canny... Miss Illutu was it?"

"Fact is we both know why we meet here. You seek answers and results.
I know the she-elf is ill. That is unfortunate."

Amalee pauses.
"The only person in Harrowed Moon who can help your friend is Fidelia, whose birthday happens to be tomorrow.
I'm trying to do something very special for My Ladie's birthday."

She pauses again, then looks at the group with an appraising eye. "Perhaps you can help?
My Lady is fond of hunting, but tires of boar, hippogriff and stag. She'd like to hunt something more... intelligent. People.

I'm extending an invitation to you and your friends.

Will you do us the Honor of being the ceremonial prey at the Grand Hunt? It is a rare and old observance not seen in these parts for years."

She waits for the Talons to answer, smiling, eyes wide with anxiety and anticipation.

"Ummm, Miss Amilee, I am sure we would like and probably need the assistance of this Fielia but,... well,... um,... there is ceremonial and then there's ceremonial, if you know what I mean. I think we might require a bit more elaboration on your part."

Milo
Friday January 27th, 2006 9:24:23 PM

Not liking the sudden turn of conversation, Milo remains where he is, waiting to see what will be said next. The idea of being someone's prey, ceremonial or otherwise, doesn't appeal to his halfling sensibilities one bit.

Falin
Saturday January 28th, 2006 12:04:18 AM

Things have now gone from bad to worse Falin thinks to himself. Not wanting to place his foot in his mouth he keeps his mouth shut, but he does tighten his grip on his bow.

Brother Bertram
Saturday January 28th, 2006 6:44:11 PM

Bertram grips the hilt of his new sword in anger and disgust at the brazen disregard for life. He bits his tongue and waits for the others to speak. He is other hand rubs his symbol of Domi's blessings absent-mindedly.

Gunther
Sunday January 29th, 2006 12:06:36 AM

The warrior stares at Amalee as though a rather large wart has just sprouted suddenly on her nose. "By de gods!! And I thought dat de Elves ver out of dere minds! Voman, you've been sniffing too many mushrooms!" Gunther growls at the human and scoots away from her, clearly repulsed.

Olana
Sunday January 29th, 2006 8:16:20 PM

Having had her fill of sniffing the air -
"Grrrr..." growls the elf softly, and makes clawing motions with her hands.

Smoothing things over... (ADM Jay B)
Monday January 30th, 2006 4:18:47 AM

"No, no, you really don't understand. Its like a child's hide and seek game. Nothing more. My Lady wouldn't actually 'hunt' you. Your guests in this place." She seems shocked at the response.

Lian
Monday January 30th, 2006 4:25:27 AM

"I'm glad thats all taken care of then.
K'Nara, we should find another way to help Olana!" States the perturbed elf.

"Absences of Powers, flying skulls, brain-draining voids, ogres and goblins running Inns and town, crystal forests and now ceremonial hide and seek games." He rolls his eyes. "Yup! It all seems perfectly normal to me. Yes sir, normal as green trees and a sun in the sky."

Brother Bertram
Monday January 30th, 2006 12:32:13 PM

Bertram snorts. "We have been hunted, and housed only at the mercy of the villagers. I am not feeling very 'guest-like' right now."

K'Nara
Monday January 30th, 2006 10:06:19 PM

For a moment, the tall blade singer regarded the sheriff with frosty hazel eyes. Then she spoke:

"I do believe my colleagues have spoken, then, Enforcer...thank you kindly for the invitation, but I don't believe we'll be playing those games. We shall have to give the Lady Fidelia birthday wishes in our own manner, then."

Olana
Monday January 30th, 2006 10:47:44 PM

Olana stops clawing, but still continues to growl, obviously unsettled, her instincts picking up the mood.

Falin
Monday January 30th, 2006 11:08:46 PM

Falin begins to think this situation could go bad quickly. Depending on how their answer is taken by the enforcer. He looks over his shoulder and makes sure that Olana is still behind her and tethered and then looks towards the enforcer again.

Gunther
Monday January 30th, 2006 11:34:31 PM

Gunther nods at K'nara's words. He'd had enough of being hunted and wasn't keen on even playing a game of it. But then his eyes light on Olana, and he wonders if they're making the right decision.

Milo
Monday January 30th, 2006 11:47:18 PM

Milo relaxes somewhat, now that the 'hunt' is clarified, though he stills remains alert. "Maybe if we could simply meet with the lady, things'll work themselves out." Slipping out of the shadows, Milo appears hopeful.

Brother Bertram
Tuesday January 31st, 2006 1:28:07 PM

Bertram turns to Milo, "Its not that simple. If it was all fun and games they could find anyone to do it." Turning back to the sheriff, Bertram says pointedly, "Matter of fact, a 'sheriff' would surely be worthy prey for the Lady. If she wants to hunt someone, why dont you climb off that horse and play the fox?"

The invite only extends so far... (ADM Jay B)
Tuesday January 31st, 2006 2:30:40 PM

Amalee passes a sideways glance and Lian, but doesn't respond.

Looking at Bertram with distaste. "Well Sir dwarf, Lady Fidelia doesn't hunt me because she knows where her employee's are all the time. It wouldn't make for a fun hunt if you know where the your prey is, would it?"

"My Lady would happily meet you, as soon it is agreed that your willing to be our Honored guest at the Grand Hunt."

Addressing K'nara. "Well, the party is exclusive. This is the only way you'll see her in the near future. She is a very busy woman. She only celebrates her birthday once a year. You would be Honored guests."

Lian
Tuesday January 31st, 2006 2:32:01 PM

Lian looks at Milo, then at Olana, then sighs.

"We should help Olana as soon as possible."

Ingrge
Tuesday January 31st, 2006 5:41:39 PM

Looking square into Amilee's eyes, Ingrge once again speaks, and there is a coldness in his words that few of the Talons have ever heard before.

" Mistress Amilee, If we participate in this hunt, know that if any of my companions are injured or killed, I will personally feed you and your mistress, piece by piece, to my friends' cat. In fact I will make it my life's mission, if necessary to do so."

Milo
Tuesday January 31st, 2006 8:17:21 PM

Bounding out of the underbrush and shadow, "We'll attend... we're in... whatever it takes." Milo looks worried that anyone will say otherwise.

Brother Bertram
Tuesday January 31st, 2006 9:00:29 PM

Bertram looks over at Milo and back to Olana then bites his tongue and says nothing. He glances over at Gunther, catching the big warriors eye, grimacing, then shrugging.

Gunther
Tuesday January 31st, 2006 11:56:33 PM

His growl increases in volume. She had them over a barrel and the witch knew it! Gunther shakes his head at Ingrge's comment and leans in to whisper to K'nara. "I vouldn't feed her dis filth...dey vould probably just make my kitty sick!" Still, as he looks over at Milo and Olana, Gunther grudgingly gives his silent consent.

Falin
Wednesday February 1st, 2006 12:04:34 AM

Looking over at Olana and then back at the sheriff Falin gets a bad taste in his mouth. If Amalee could read minds she would probable hear explenatives the likes of which had never touched her ears.

Olana
Wednesday February 1st, 2006 1:10:32 AM

Olana's empty eyes stare back at those who look her way.
"Party," she says.

Shhh, we're hunting wabbits... (ADM Jay B)
Wednesday February 1st, 2006 1:17:00 PM

"Wonderful! Its agreed then! Be at the edge of the Crystal Forest tomorrow at sunset. I assure you that the Hunt is done for the thrill of the chase, nothing more.
No humans are ever been killed during the hunt its for the excitement of trying to match wits with other sentient beings.
At the conclusion of the hunt, provided that Fidelia was sufficiently challenged by the event, Fidelia will likely help about the elf maiden or, at least, tell the party where they can go to seek help."

She turns, and with one swift single motion, mounts her horse.
"This will be a truly exciting and enlightening event.
See you at sunset tomorrow. Good eve."
The sheriff puts up her hood and, like lightning, is gone in the opposite direction from where she came. The thunderous hooves can be heard fading in the distance. The Talons are again in the silence of the clearing under the Mushroom Tree.

Lian
Wednesday February 1st, 2006 1:21:16 PM

"Well, seems we're expected tomorrow for the party." He looks almost put out by her assumptions.

Brother Bertram
Wednesday February 1st, 2006 2:32:49 PM

"We went from The lady Will help, to now if she is entertained enough she MIGHT help..."

Milo
Wednesday February 1st, 2006 9:06:48 PM

Milo sighs, "Looks like another night in ogre-ville for us." The halfling looks less than pleased by the outcome of the meeting.

Ingrge
Wednesday February 1st, 2006 10:28:24 PM

As she departs, Ingrge groans. Well that's all fine and good for you K'nara, but the rest of us aren't "human."

Olana  d20+3=20
Thursday February 2nd, 2006 12:11:25 AM

As soon as the female on horseback has gone, Olana starts pulling at the rope - hard. Fear is painted plainly on her face.

Strength check 20

K'Nara
Thursday February 2nd, 2006 12:24:41 AM

The blade singer scowled. She, too, had noticed the phrasing of the sheriff's words...especially the proviso about the Lady being "sufficiently challenged". She didn't like it at all.

"Let's get Olana back before she hurts herself." K'Nara said as she registered the elf maid's agitation. "We have to see if we can find out more about this...hunt of theirs."

Gunther
Thursday February 2nd, 2006 12:36:07 AM

His growl slowly subsiding, Gunther hunkers down for the long walk back to the Inn. The prospect of being around the ogres softens the blow a little bit...in a way, it's kind of like being back home again...only cleaner. Gunther casts a nervous look over at K'nara. Hmmmm...another free night...wonder if I should offer... Maybe I should just kiss her tonight and see what happens... Gunther's hand reaches over, subtly reaching toward K'nara's, but at the last minute he chickens out and plant it firmly on his thigh. Sighing deeply, he wonders why in the Wold this all has to be soooo complex.

Yet again into the ogre's care... (ADM Jay B)
Thursday February 2nd, 2006 12:04:44 PM

The Talons return to the Inn. Bonecrusher is again there serving guests and stops as she sees you. "Meeting go well?" Says the innkeeper in hushed tones.

Lian
Thursday February 2nd, 2006 12:07:45 PM

He returns in silence, pondering the cryptic terms the Sheriff used.

Falin
Thursday February 2nd, 2006 1:19:33 PM

Falin, caught off guard, falls backwards as Olana pulls on the rope. Getting up he looks at Olana. "Olana what is wrong? You don't have to be scared anymore she is gone."

He grabs her hand reasuringly. "We will win this little competition and get you better in no time." He leads Olana back to the town with everyone else.

Milo
Thursday February 2nd, 2006 8:31:15 PM

Casting about sullenly, "Peachy. Bonecrusher, you have to be the best host this side of home... and that is saying something. Its too bad that not everyone is as accomodating." Falling silent halfing does his best to chipper up.

K'Nara
Thursday February 2nd, 2006 11:04:28 PM

The blade singer cast a rueful smile at the concerned troll.

"We were...thoroughly enlightened." she told him, then gave a wry chuckle. "Well--we found out why the people around here seem to harbor those mixed feelings about Lady Fidelia's help." K'Nara sighed and shrugged. "We may be needing to ask around about the area--you know, the terrain and how it can be used in...a great game of hide 'n' seek."

Olana
Friday February 3rd, 2006 12:42:46 AM

On the move, Olana settles and has no further problems with the rope or being taken anywhere.
At the Inn, she just sits where she's told to, and stares into space.

Brother Bertram
Friday February 3rd, 2006 1:53:05 AM

Bertram speaks up suddenly, "Bonecrusher, tell us of the Great Hunt."

The Grand Hunt... Bonecrusher style... (ADM Jay B)
Friday February 3rd, 2006 7:15:18 AM

Bonecrusher's face goes slack at the term 'Great Hunt'.
"GRAND Hunt master dwarf. The Grand Hunt is the most celebrated sport in the area. It is, usually, the only time of the year the Lady Fidelia is seen outside her castle.

There's nothing to the Hunt. You hunt the animals and they die. Its said the slain animals are often served at Fidelia's birthday dinner."

Bonecrusher looks at the Talons with suddenly anxious eyes. "Were you... invited to join the Hunt? Oh, wow, that is truly an Honor! Meeting the Lady is rare."

"Can we get the halfling a peachy?" Shouts the keeper. Soon Milo has a peach cobbler sitting in front of him. Apparently this is what is considered a 'peachy' in the realm. :)

Lian
Friday February 3rd, 2006 7:18:43 AM

"Bonecrusher, is it often that Honored guests are considered the prey?" Asks the monk.

Brother Bertram
Friday February 3rd, 2006 7:50:17 AM

"And have you ever seen anyone that walked away from the 'Grand' Hunt?"

Falin
Friday February 3rd, 2006 7:52:07 AM

"We have been asked ot be the prey in order to provide 'sport' for the lady." He says lady with GREAT disdain.

"I can not believe that we will have to become the hunted in order to save our friend. Don't get me wrong, I would do anything to get Olana back..." Falin seems to be searching for words as his head begins to turn a shade of red, "I just can't believe how it went from the lady CAN help you to if you can provide enough sport for the lady she may help you."

Falin begins to pace. "It just frustrates me that we can't help Olana. I am so irritated that I feel completely helpless in this situation. I want to help fix it and we just have to keep waiting."

He stops and looks at the group, "And I don't believe for a second that we are just there for 'sport'. I don't trust that enforcer any farther than I can throw her. The only people here besides us that I have felt like I could trust are our hosts." He says this with what looks like the rest of his emotional tirade and sweeps his hand over to their hosts as he finished his statement.

With this he goes over and sits in front of the fire to settle down a bit, head in hands.

Gunther
Friday February 3rd, 2006 11:00:41 AM

Listening to Bonecrusher's description of the hunt, Gunther begins to swear loudly in orcish. "I knew that lying vitch vasn't telling de truth! Dere is no vay...no vay I'm going to be hunted again!" There is a wild feral look in Gunther's eyes as he begins to pace the floor, ringing his hands. He looks ready to bolt out the door at any second.

Ingrge
Friday February 3rd, 2006 4:40:21 PM

Slowly shaking his head as the Bonecrusher starts speaking of the Hunt, Ingrge sits down and calls for a tankard of Darl dwarven ale or something as close to that as can be found here. As it arrives he tosses it back in one draft and asks for a secon before the server is gone from the table. Turning toward bone crusher he asks.

"So how long is this "Hunt?" Exactly who partakes in this Hunt? How many hunters are there normally? Are there any rules to this hunt? Is anything forbidden? How do they normally find, search for, or flush their intended prey? Where does this hunt take place? Are there boundaries, or safe zones within the hunting area?"

Milo
Friday February 3rd, 2006 5:45:09 PM

Despite the seriousness of their situation, Milo cannot help but smile at the appearance of the peach cobbler. Grabbing a spoon, the halfling helps himself, offering some of the tasty treat up to Olana as well.

K'Nara
Friday February 3rd, 2006 11:27:12 PM

K'Nara's hazel eyes narrowed as she listened to Bonecrusher's description of the Grand Hunt, and to the others' comments and questions. She, too, didn't like being put in a position of having no choice...but, perhaps, if the Talons gathered enough information, then there might be an unexpected surprise for those who would be the Hunters...

ADM Jay B
Sunday February 5th, 2006 6:56:18 PM

OOC: It's been fun running you folks through this scene of the module. Sorry it drug on for so long.

I hope to do it again sometime soon. Thanks for the great role playing.

Lian
Sunday February 5th, 2006 7:04:49 PM

The monk frowns at Ingrge's questions.
"There are likely no rules for the lady, but PLENTY for us to follow strictly, I'm sure. Something tells me the Lady is not a mere nobel out for sport."

"And that Sheriff, seemed.... odd. First saying she wanted to know why we're here and threatening Milo like he was a crook. Then she invites us to the party?! How wierd was that?"

He then notices the cobbler infront of the halfling. "Can I get one of those Bonecrusher? Looks awfully tasty." Once he receives the peachy, he drowns his doubts in peachy goodness, likely the only good thing to come out of this day.

Olana
Sunday February 5th, 2006 11:50:37 PM

Olana's face lights up as Milo offers up a spoonful of peach cobbler. Her nostrils flare, taking in the scent of it, and the taste of it ends in a giggle of delight.
She opens her mouth for more.

Lian
Monday February 6th, 2006 10:10:20 PM

The monk just shakes his head, not believing this whole journey is happening.

Brother Bertram

"The only rule and acceptable result for the lady is our head on a platter at the end of the stalk no doubt."

Answers to Questions - DM Donna
Tuesday February 7th, 2006 12:31:00 AM

Bonecrusher leaves the area for a few moments, then returns with a rather beat-up-looking tun of battered oak. From it he pours a dark liquid that smells a bit musty and yet...there's something rather tantalizing about the scent. He presents the tankard to Ingrge.

"I haven't been able to import ale here...not yet." he tells the weapons mage. "But I and my cousin Gut are working on it. Meanwhile...try the shroomsauce. I think you'll like it." The troll scratches his knobby chin in thought before addressing the queries about the Grand Hunt.

"None of us villagers have been privileged to witness the Hunt firsthand." he admits. "But Amalee's deputies have been heard to be boasting about how they get to participate...they mostly brag about who drew first blood, or maybe how good the eating was." The erstwhile innkeeper shrugs.

"If there was anybody who knew anything about the Grand Hunt besides the rumors, I'd say maybe it was Skinner...he's the butcher here in Reston. He gets the leftovers from the Hunt and divvies 'em up amongst the people here. We get to have meat pie and roast for a week solid after M'Lady's birthday."

Gunther
Tuesday February 7th, 2006 12:36:34 AM

Gutmasher's talk of meat from the hunt pushes the already touchy warrior over the edge. He quickly bolts out the door and heads toward the street. "I von't be hunted...not again...not every again!" he mumbles fanatically.

Lian
Tuesday February 7th, 2006 3:35:47 AM

The monk listens to the innkeeper.

Falin
Tuesday February 7th, 2006 10:09:37 AM

Running out after Gunther the small framed elf looks almost comical chasing after the large warrior.

"Gunther, breathe easy my friend. We must be strong. I am sorry we have never gotten to talk much and I can not begin to understand your worry. " He places a hand on the warriors shoulder. "Let me share my story of being hunted with you. I was once lost in a dangerous and magical land. I had teleported there by accident or by some more powerful beings purpose, but I will never know. For over a year I spent every night sleeping with one eye open and living in fear of what might come out at night to take my life. I was lucky enough to somehow find a gate out and teleported right back to the same group I had teleported from. I am glad to be back, but that time spent in fear will never be forgotten. What can help is trying to draw strength from it. You must be strong for everyone. If they see you standing unyeilding to the danger it will give them strength as well."

He waits for a reaction from Gunther.

Brother Bertram
Tuesday February 7th, 2006 1:32:57 PM

Bertram raises an eyebrow, looking at the others. "Meat pie you say? And you have never laid an eye on a person that was 'honored' after a hunt have you?"

Lian
Tuesday February 7th, 2006 5:25:30 PM

"Winners get eaten." He says plainly. "Nothing around here suprises me anymore."

"We should find when this Fidelia person came to be the ruler of this place and where she may have came from."

Ingrge
Tuesday February 7th, 2006 8:59:17 PM

So Bonecursher, This skinner wouldn't happen to drinking in this establishment tonight would he?

Milo
Tuesday February 7th, 2006 9:05:33 PM

Keeping a concerned ear open to the conversation taking place around him, Milo continues to eat cobbler, and feed Olana at the same time, alternating between himself and his love. Then when the urge grabs him, "I'm not concerned for myself being hunted. But I don't think I'll be eating any meat pie." Milo blanches.

Olana
Wednesday February 8th, 2006 12:26:04 AM

Olana pauses for a moment as Gunther moves quickly outside, followed by Falin. But then her attention switches back to Milo feeding her more peaches. Peaches must be good, because she has a big smile on her face.

Lian
Wednesday February 8th, 2006 1:10:52 AM

"Bonecrusher, have you ever seen this Lady Fidelia? If so, what does she look like?"

Gunther
Wednesday February 8th, 2006 1:20:46 AM

Gunther seems to calm after Falin's kind words. "Yeah...be strong...I need to be strong for her. Need to support her...let her know I trust her..yeah." He heads back into the Inn with Falin, looking quite a bit calmer.

TOO Much Information??? - DM Donna
Wednesday February 8th, 2006 9:57:13 AM

Bonecrusher looks genuinely shocked at Brother Bertram's implication that the "meat" distributed after a Hunt actually belonged to people.

"No humans are ever killed in the Grand Hunt," the troll insists, "M'Lady Fidelia expressly forbids it! Only beasts that are discovered during the event...the Lady has assured us so!" He finishes pouring shroomsauce for K'Nara and then hastily removes himself from the immediate vicinity of Bertram, throwing distressed glances the dwarf's way (as well as Lian's). However, he does address himself to Ingrge's questions:

"Skinner doesn't visit here very much. He's rather clannish--if he isn't at his house, then he's hovering around Merria's place." Since the name doesn't ring bells for the Talons, Bonecrusher clarifies: "Merria is Jekl's mother...the young one your large friend gave that shiny bauble to."

K'Nara--who had sampled the shroomsauce and found it to be actually good--gets up when the troll's words remind her that Gunther and Falin are no longer with the group, going to the door and sighing with relief when she spots them walking back to the hospitality house.

"I hope I can get the chance to ask you about your past, Gunther," she tells him as the pair return, "Gods know there's a few things in mine that I think you ought to know about..."

Brother Bertram
Wednesday February 8th, 2006 2:18:12 PM

Bertram listens and responds mildly, "But again Friend, Have you ever seen any of the people selected to be the quarry AFTER the hunt?"

Milo
Wednesday February 8th, 2006 11:27:41 PM

Milo seems reassured by Bonecrusher's words, and even orders another bowl of peach cobbler to share with Olana.

Gunther
Thursday February 9th, 2006 12:35:45 AM

Gunther smiles at K'nara, trying to put a good face on things. "Yeah, dat vould be nice..." Gods know there's a few things in mine that I think you ought to know about..." K'nara's words slowly wash over him, and his face contorts as he tries to process her words. Shrugging, he decides to take the matter up with her once they get out of this place. "So I guess ve go and find dis person, den?"

Falin
Thursday February 9th, 2006 9:05:04 AM

"I guess if it means finding a way to bring Olana back we go and meet this new danger. Although, I don't know if we meet it head on. We should expect the worst and hope for the best."

With those words he moves over to an empty table and lays out his equipment. Going through each item to make sure it is in good working order and tending to anything needing attention.

Lian
Thursday February 9th, 2006 12:02:30 PM

"Sounds like another goose chase."

Olana
Thursday February 9th, 2006 2:03:06 PM

Olana's eyes continue to move, latching on to whoever spoke last as the others talk of the current predicament.
"Peaches," she says to Milo, right after Lian utters the phrase 'goose chase'. "Peaches."

Looking for Answers in Other Places - DM Donna
Friday February 10th, 2006 12:25:40 AM

"Sounds like this Skinner fellow is the one we need to sound out about information about the Hunt." K'Nara says firmly, though she throws a compassionate glance at Olana.

"Russel and Pamona know the Crystal Forest well." Bonecrusher pipes up as he reappears with more "peachy" stuff. "You'd do well to ask them their advice. They live in the Knobby Cottage--they are mushroom harvesters."

Lian
Friday February 10th, 2006 11:00:24 AM

"Lets speak with all these people soon."

Falin
Friday February 10th, 2006 4:38:19 PM

"I have always like mushrooms." Says Falin through a smile. He wraps all of his gear back up and puts it away.

"I am ready when everyone else is."

Milo
Friday February 10th, 2006 8:53:51 PM

Milo relaxes, trading off bites of peach cobbler with Olana, and listening intently to the conversation around him.

Ingrge
Friday February 10th, 2006 9:13:07 PM

By all means lets go see this mushroomman.

Gunther
Friday February 10th, 2006 11:07:06 PM

A Man Asking for Directions!!! - DM Donna
Saturday February 11th, 2006 12:22:34 AM

Bonecrusher gives the Talons directions to both the butcher's and to the couple who harvest the mushrooms.

Now it's a matter of picking which place to visit first.

Brother Bertram
Sunday February 12th, 2006 3:51:58 PM

Bertram decides he is not going to get an answer and waits for the others to decide what to do.

DM Donna
Sunday February 12th, 2006 10:12:16 PM

OOC: my apologies to Brother Bertram--I forgot to add this part to the post:

"We only hear of who attends the Grand Hunt, sir cleric," Bonecrusher tells the dwarf, "I don't ever recall any placer who came to Reston ever being honored with an invitation before."

Olana
Sunday February 12th, 2006 10:15:23 PM

Olana seems quite happy to sit there being fed peach cobbler, until someone asks her to do something else.

Lian
Monday February 13th, 2006 11:17:48 AM

"Suspicious. I think Placers aren't liked much by the nobility here. Maybe the folks here are frightful to stand up to a tyrant, this Fidelia woman."

Lian looks thoughtful for a minute, then speaks again. "Personally, I think those placers who have come here, and went missing, may have asked too many questions or gotten their noses into things."

Falin
Monday February 13th, 2006 2:48:57 PM

"Where to everyone?" I just want to do something.

Falin gets the rest of his things together.

Brother Bertram

Milo is content to sit and eat and feed his love peach cobbler until someone else comes up with a better idea.

The Way to Go - DM Donna
Tuesday February 14th, 2006 12:42:58 AM

K'Nara considers the options and then nods.

"Since this Skinner guy seems to be located closer to where we are now, we'd best head there first." she says decisively. "Then we can visit the mushroom farmers."

The group finds themselves ambling across the hamlet towards a medium-sized cottage. The front of the cottage actually has larger-than-normal windows...one could say that the windows were more like shop-style openings with wide window sills that acted a lot like mini-counters. At one of the windows, inside the cottage, is a rather burly goblin who looks a lot like he swallowed a crate of lemons.

"Excuse me, Master Butcher..." K'Nara begins to say, only to be cut off with a bit of a snarl:

"Make it fast, human," Skinner snaps churlishly, "I don't cotton to placers--come in an' mess up the natural order of things, I tell ya..!"

Just a Neighborly Chat - DM Donna
Wednesday February 15th, 2006 4:16:43 PM

K'Nara is completely unprepared for Gunther's reaction to the taciturn butcher--but the goblinoid now pinned by the large fighter's double grip seems only to be grudgingly impressed.

"You're the bigger one--the stronger one--so I have to answer," Skinner acknowledges, but then he adds with a bit of a sneer:

"...but you have to actually ASK me something so that I can answer it..! I'm a goblin, NOT a mind-reader!"

The leader of the Talons suppresses a groan--the goblin has a point--no one has even asked Skinner a question yet.

Answers Right or Wrong - DM Donna
Thursday February 16th, 2006 11:31:28 PM

Ingrgre's questions (not that he actually posted these again so that *I* didn't have to go looking for them):

"So how long is this "Hunt?" Exactly who partakes in this Hunt? How many hunters are there normally? Are there any rules to this hunt? Is anything forbidden? How do they normally find, search for, or flush their intended prey? Where does this hunt take place? Are there boundaries, or safe zones within the hunting area?"

The goblin glares at the elf, a rather rude snarl on his face--but the implied threat of Gunther continues to garner his cooperation.

"The Grand Hunt is held exclusively to celebrate M'Lady Fidelia's birthday, so it lasts but one night, from moonset to moonrise." Skinner explains. "M'Lady and her minions are the hunters...these minions include the sheriff and the deputies. You can count on there being at least a dozen hunters or so. The rules be simple: avoid getting caught until the glow of the moon streaks the sky. The only thing forbidden in the Hunt is the killing of humans--no human may be slain during the Hunt. M'Lady uses her hounds to track & flush her prey. The Grand Hunt usually starts within the boundaries of the Crystal Forest, but has been known to range across the breadth and width of Harrowed Moon on occasion." The goblin's reumy yellow eyes squint craftily at Ingrge.

"And there be only one safehouse, IF ye can find it." Skinner says. "A rather magical place that I have ne'er clapped eyes upon m'self. A place known as the Wanderers' Refuge...a tavern that seems to appear and disappear on its own schedule. Hunters are not allowed within."

The goblin's jaw snaps shut and his stance is stiff. He doesn't look like he'll be any too cooperative from this point on, in spite of how threatening Gunther may seem.

Can I assume that they will be the only ones 'safe' on the Hunt?"

"Is it any wonder that the sheriff seemed eager for us to accept the 'honor' of the Hunt?! SHE'S hunting us!

Is there anything about this Amalee we need to know? Is she specially trained in tracking?

Are there any descriptions of this Wanderers' Refuge from anyone?"

Cooperation...or else - DM Donna
Sunday February 19th, 2006 7:30:06 PM

"Sheriff Amalee is the best tracker in the land, elf," snarls the goblin, "Even without the support of M'Lady's hounds, you'll be hard-pressed to elude her." The butcher harrumphs.

"I'd imagine that non-humans better watch 'emselves during the Hunt, but all I can truly tell yas is that the object of the Grand Hunt is the thrill of the chase, not to kill the prey. All kinds of other beasties get nailed along the way, though."

Finally released by Gunther, Skinner takes the time to add in a gruff voice:

"The Wanderers' Refuge is more a myth of the shadows...probably the result of some big mouth having to much shroom sauce before spouting off. All I can say is that I have never seen it...an' I don't truly know anyone else here who has, neither."

With that, the goblin scuttles away, behind his counter.

"Go now--you're stifling business!" he bids the party in a rather rude voice.

K'Nara nods to Gunther and accompanies him out of the shop. She frowns a bit, having caught the surreptitious incantation by Ingrge (OOC: Spot was a natural 20), but she ultimately says nothing as the group leaves the reluctantly-cooperative butcher's shop.

"I'm not sure that hexing the business was exactly the right thing to do there, Ingrge," she tells the weapons mage, "Although it was obvious that the goblin didn't really want to help us, he still DID answer the questions we put to him..."

There is giggling and some squealing sounding from behind the shop--the sound of children at play. One of them is proudly bouncing a shiny object off their feet (OOC: if you've ever seen kids play with a "Hacky Sack", this is similar)--

"G'evenin'!" the child greets everyone. "We're havin' LOTS of fun with the shiney! Thanks SO much for it!" The little goblinoid smacks the gem up for a rather impressive lob that is just barely caught by the foot of the young troll of the kiddie group. Then Jekl turns to address Brother Bertram.

Jekl's eyes widen as Falin explains that a paladin is like a paladin. (OOC: Did you mean to write "a paladin is like a fighter"..?) He edges away from the elven sharpshooter, the expression on the boy's face one of hearty skepticism.

Then Jekl turns to Brother Bertram.

"None of the placers that ever came-ded here were ever invited on the Hunt, Master Cleric Sir. So I never seed them at all. Ever."

Jekl catches the newest "bauble" to become a local plaything.

"Thanks ever so much, Mister...Mister...Pally-dun, Sir!" the goblinoid says enthusiastically, then races off with his friends, who are all shreiking excitedly because they can now have contests between two teams of "bauble-kickers".

"I don't know if it will yield any real results..." K'Nara answers Gunther, "...but if this 'Auntie Pika' is out back beating rugs, she's closer than the mushroom farmers, so it won't hurt to go and see her, I suppose..."

The matronly gobliness turns a jaundiced eye towards Gunther, with her well-used rug beater in hand. K'Nara instinctively reaches her right hand up, ready to snatch Lucia forth in defense of her fellow Talon. However, Pika merely grunts and waves an empty about in the air.

"Pah! Jekl is addled." the female goblin says with a snort. "I don't go to any Hunt--'tis the provenance of my husband. I look after the home...he fetches forth the bounty granted by M'Lady." She turns her attention back to smacking her hanging rug.

"Pay no heed to the prattling of children, human," Pika says in a bored voice, "What they don't out-and-out lie about, they fantasize...especially Jekl."

When Gunther begins comparing the strength between Pika and Skinner, the entire party can see the gobliness practically begin to preen.

"I am the iron in the family, no doubt." she readily agrees with the human. "But the closest I get to the Hunt every year is perhaps meeting my husband halfway home so that we can safely transport the meat he gets to the shop where it can be processed." She thinks for a moment, though, and adds:

"However, I've heard tales of some inn--the Wanderers' Refuge--it seems to be out there somewhere in Harrowed Moon, though I've never seen it myself. 'Tis said that any ceremonial prey that finds the Refuge is safe from the Hunt."

Gunther doesn't think that Pika is lying.

Again the group finds themselves at a small but homey cottage--well-built though worn in places. The couple that live here are another married pair of goblins, both of them rather young.

"I'm Rendish," the male introduces himself, "And this is my wife, Teser. How can we be of service..?"

K'Nara puts forth the questions that Ingrge would likely have asked yet again, and both farmers think a bit before answering.

"Reston is a small, small village," Teser says earnestly, "So we don't truly get visitors here that often--in the last tenyear or so, only one other placer had been invited to the Hunt as ceremonial prey..."

"You mean that Lemi fellow?" Rendish asks.

"No, no--Lemi was the name of the god he followed..." Teser argues, "The man's name was Rico, or something..."

Later, at the farmers. "Aw, do you mean god ALEMI? Someone who followed Alemi was here?"

Brother Bertram
Thursday March 2nd, 2006 9:09:36 PM

Bertram looks at Lian, "Along with all of his gear that we found no doubt."

Ingrge
Thursday March 2nd, 2006 9:25:10 PM

After a bit of studying and pondering, Ingrge casts a couple of spells upon himself, though nothing apparent seems to happen. He continues to work occasionally writing down a few notes and thoughts to discuss with the others.

He Said, She Said - DM Donna
Friday March 3rd, 2006 12:04:23 AM

"Alemi, right..!" Rendish nods, but then frowns at Teser. "No, the placer's name was Montigo, wasn't it? Wore that brilliant set of armor..?"

"The placer's LAST name was Montague, but his armor surely did shine." Teser counters. "He was positively amazed at the village--you'd think he'd never seen goblins and trolls before."

"He DID look like he'd thought that Bonecrusher was going to rip his head off..." Rendish agrees, adding: "...he was very dreamy and starry-eyed when Lady Fidelia invited him to the Hunt."

"No, no--" Teser shakes her head, "--Lady Fidelia didn't invite him to the Hunt, the Sheriff did! He wanted to see M'Lady, but the Sheriff said he was invited to be the ceremonial prey."

"Oh, right..!" Rendish nods. "But he set off for the Twilight Palace himself--never saw him after that, though..."

Gunther
Friday March 3rd, 2006 12:09:04 AM

Hanging back, Gunther slowly breaks out into a sweat as the two mushroom farmers begin to tell the tale of the paladin from the journal.

Olana
Friday March 3rd, 2006 12:26:22 AM

Assuming Olana's at the mushroom farmers.

Olana holds Milo's hand tightly. "Butcher," she says after the goblin's 'ceremonial prey' sentence. Probably confused with the last place they went to.

Falin
Friday March 3rd, 2006 1:04:59 AM

Falin bows his head and shakes it back and forth slowly. "Well, we know that we have to go to this hunt. We will just have to be well prepared for it."

Lian
Friday March 3rd, 2006 10:59:28 AM

Looking at Falin. "Easier said than done my friend. What can we expect? Letsee. Skulls, thats obvious. The best tracker and her minions, oops, I mean deputies, following our every move. No way to ...." He trails off.

Then something dawns on the monk, thinking. "If we fly..." He ponders. "... can we still be tracked?" He mentions this to Ingrge and K'nara when they are away from the goblins.

"I think if we can remain hidden...., like with that rope trick or in some magical space, we should be fine. I mean the Secret Inn is safe, but can the Sheriff track us on the other planes?!" He smiles. "Maybe the Inn is in the Ethereal or something."

Ingrge
Friday March 3rd, 2006 7:05:11 PM

Continuing to talk to himself and jot down a few things, Ingrge continues to keep working.

(Donna, let me know just how much time I have before it is bed time. I wouldlike to figure out if I have enough time to scribe a few low level scrolls)

More to Say - DM Donna
Saturday March 4th, 2006 11:42:37 AM

Teser bobs her head at her husband's latest comment.

"True, never saw him again--I always thought that the Collector got the poor fella, but nobody else seems to agree with me." she says.

"Now, sweetie-kins," Rendish objects, "I didn't say that I didn't agree with you--it's just that the shiny guy seemed a little too clever to fall into the Collector's hands..." Here the male goblin shudders and then thinks to explain to the group: "The Collector is a bit of a myth around here (nasty little man according to the stories)--only most of us are certain he truly exists. Every once in a while there's been cases where someone here or (supposedly) at another village got fed up with the work we do and they set off to the Twilight Palace to complain. I CAN tell you for sure that none of them EVER come back."

"Started hearing stories about how the Collector intercepts anyone who wants to complain before they get to see M'Lady." Teser adds. "Indeed, whenever we inquired after whomever disappeared on those occasions when M'Lady makes an appearance, she isn't even aware that the missing persons were on their way to see her...poor thing."

K'Nara ponders this new information and then Lian's suggestion.

"Olana told me once that anything can be tracked...it's merely whether or not the tracker knows how to look for it." the blade singer tells the monk. "However, it is harder for something that flies to be tracked by someone on the ground...hmmm...we should see if we can come up with something that can utilize your idea..."

Ingrge calculates that it is the Woldian equivalent of about maybe three o'clock in the afternoon.

Lian
Sunday March 5th, 2006 10:21:20 AM

"Everlasting Night. Skulls. Sheriffs and deputies. Mysterious disappearances of Placers. Mysterious Lady. Hidden safe houses. Now this Collector." The monk sighs. "I know I'm going to regret this... what does he 'collect'?"

"Horrowed Moon. Charming place."

Brother Bertram
Sunday March 5th, 2006 6:37:40 PM

Bertram mutters, "Souls...., blood..., food.... Whats the difference? And whats to say the sheriff isnt this 'Collector'?"

Olana
Monday March 6th, 2006 1:13:43 AM

Olana starts to bob her head, just like Teser.

Lian
Monday March 6th, 2006 11:02:57 AM

He waits for his answer, shrugging in the direction of Bertram.

Gunther
Monday March 6th, 2006 5:14:48 PM

Looking a wee bit shaky, Gunther begins to pace as the Talons continue their inquiry.

Milo
Monday March 6th, 2006 8:15:33 PM

Milo remains steadfastly calm throughout the conversation, though a sinking feeling seems to be deepening in the pit of his stomach.

Ingrge
Monday March 6th, 2006 8:25:22 PM

Working diligently, Ingrge starts scribing a few scrolls.

Parting Words of Wisdom - DM Donna
Tuesday March 7th, 2006 12:50:46 AM

Rendish and Teser are suddenly reminded that they are speaking to people who don't like being ceremonial prey in the Grand Hunt, and both hastily cobble together a very rough map of the area. They make sure to point out patches of terrain that might prove to bog down the hounds that will likely be used for the Hunt.

"All in all," the goblin couple seem to agree on this one point, "Your best bet is to make for M'Lady's Twilight Palace--the area around it is actually a bit swampy and will be slow going for hounds...and the tradition is that, should you make it inside the palace, the Hunt is over and you've won by default. However, M'Lady has VERY tight security about her home, so we hear--so be VERY careful!"

Falin
Tuesday March 7th, 2006 4:01:42 AM

"Well, that information is greatly appreciated." He smiles and thanks the kind goblins.

To the other when they have walked off a bit. "I have some ideas that might prove fruitful, but I would rather we talk about it back at the Inn and privately. It might not really be more private, but it will make me feel better."

Brother Bertram
Tuesday March 7th, 2006 4:08:07 AM

Bertram studies the map intently, memorizing it as much as possible before they have to leave.

Lian
Tuesday March 7th, 2006 11:15:59 AM

"Seems to get out of the pan, we have to jump into the fire." He states plain.

He prepares to leave, praying to Domi for help, even though his God isn't near.

Olana
Tuesday March 7th, 2006 1:23:59 PM

After an initial interest, Olana's eyes move away from the map making, perhaps because it is hard for her senses to comprehend. Sounds, regardless of their meaning, are easier to recognise and replicate.
"Fruitful," she says at one point. "Fruit. Hahahaha."

Gunther
Tuesday March 7th, 2006 10:33:57 PM

Wiping the sweat from his brow, Gunther pays close attention. "Yeah...swamps. Palace...yeah goot."

Milo
Wednesday March 8th, 2006 12:11:30 AM

Milo perks up at the last statement, "Tight security huh?" Grinning fiendishly, "That happens to be my specialty." Then looking around at his friends, "We've got this." The halfling rogue seems supremely confident at their chances. "If any of you have spells or abilities that you can employ to pass unnoticed, I'd recommend preparing those... in abundance."

One Last Thing - DM Donna
Wednesday March 8th, 2006 12:30:25 AM

As the Talons make their way out of the couple's home, Teser snaps her fingers and waves a hand.

"Oooo...oh! Almost forgot--don't even think about trying to take refuge in another village or to even come back here...I know for a fact that the designated Hunters are authorized to attack any citizen fraternizing with the prey. An aunt of mine in the village north of the Crystal Forest had stopped to give directions to a placer being hunted and she was nearly trampled to death by the Hunting Party. Took her nearly four months to fully recover..."

Brother Bertram
Wednesday March 8th, 2006 4:02:52 AM

"And if they do that to anyone helping.....You can imagine what they do to the prey. Just more proof of what occurs."

Lian
Wednesday March 8th, 2006 1:37:06 PM

"Shall we depart then, friends?"

Gunther
Wednesday March 8th, 2006 3:27:37 PM

The warrior looks over at Brother Bertram, trying his best to look and sound brave. "Dat's vat dey tink. But dey don't know us to vell, huh? I'll bet K'nara and Ingrge got a few suprises up their sleeves." Gunther winks at K'nara and takes a step closer to the bladesinger's side, as if the mere closeness of her body provides all the reassurance he needs.

DM Donna

I know I have more than three players who can post...::glare, glare::

Olana
Wednesday March 8th, 2006 11:25:09 PM

Olana continues to watch, listen, and understand nothing.

Falin
Thursday March 9th, 2006 12:00:09 AM

Falin nods in agreement to Gunthers comment.

Brother Bertram
Thursday March 9th, 2006 4:02:42 AM

"So it sounds like, The Lady may or may not be the problem, but the sheriff has to die, yes? And is there any rule against us starting the hunt early?"

Lian
Thursday March 9th, 2006 9:50:01 AM

Lian waits.

Ingrge
Thursday March 9th, 2006 5:21:11 PM

Finished with his plotting and scribing it is now 9pm where he is.

Milo
Thursday March 9th, 2006 9:20:11 PM

Milo sits quietly, ruminating over possible tactics they might take over the course of the hunt.

Caution Children At Play - DM Donna
Thursday March 9th, 2006 11:49:51 PM

The mushroom farmers wish the party luck and the Talons make their way back across the village, passing (once again) the butcher's house and the small group of children at play nearby.

This time the children seem to be engaging in one of those singing/rhyming games that involve clapping their hands together as they chime:

The eve of the Hunt she never sleeps...
What M'Lady finds she keeps.
Guests are best,
She just arrests.
Play the game,
Pass the tests.
Run! Pursue!
Run! Pursue!
She lets them go,
They won't have to stew.
On Fidelia's birthday Hunt...
Fidelia's birthday Hunt!

Lian
Friday March 10th, 2006 9:09:19 AM

"Cheerful bunch."

Brother Bertram
Friday March 10th, 2006 2:03:51 PM

Bertram snorts at Lian's comment, "Like she would spread a song around telling how she likes dwarf IN a stew."

K'Nara  d20=10
Friday March 10th, 2006 2:13:03 PM

The blade singer frowns at the singsong verse.

"Why is it that I have this nagging feeling that there are clues and hints in front of us about the obvious ulterior motives of M'Lady...and yet I just cannot SEE them..?" she voices her concern.

OOC: I just rolled an Intelligence check for K'Nara, and I ask the other PCs to do the same, even those who have posted already (except for Olana, whose character doesn't care.)

Falin  d20+2=21

Falin looks up for a moment as if caught in thought. His forhead creased with thought.

Gunther  d20+1=3
Sunday March 12th, 2006 8:01:11 PM

Gunther shrugs his shoulders at K'nara's statement. "It's just a child's song. It may not mean anyting." (Int.=3)

Olana
Sunday March 12th, 2006 10:17:51 PM

Olana seems content to hum along with the tune, getting it wrong on more than one occasion.

"Umm, well Gunther, things here are hard to sense."

Milo  d20+1=21

Milo listens carefully to the song, attempting to memorize it, even as he analyzes the verse for clues.

Out of the Mouths of Babes - DM Donna
Tuesday March 14th, 2006 12:18:13 AM

OOC: the roll needed to even recall all the clues was a natural 20...which Milo got. So:

Milo begins to review in his head all the things that they know so far about Harrowed Moon and its residents:

1) It's always night here, whether or not the moon is out.
2) Lady Fidelia charms everyone she meets...none of the residents can speak ill of her.
3) There's an annual Birthday Hunt in which humans are not allowed to be hurt/killed.
4) The childrens' song says Lady Fidelia doesn't sleep on the night of the Hunt.
5) The childrens' song also says that whatever Lady Fidelia finds, she keeps.

Milo's quick halfling brain adds up all these clues and comes up with a disturbing couple of questions:

What is it that only comes out at night and prefers to have living human prey..? Something with the inhuman stamina to stalk its food all night long..?

Falin
Tuesday March 14th, 2006 8:07:12 AM

"So, what your saying is we are going to be up against a Vampire?" Falin shakes his head slowly back and forth. "We I guess we have a better idea of what to prepare for now, huh? Does anyone know anything about fighting Vampires? I only know the basic stuff. Like sunlight and holy water. Other than that I am useless."

Lian  d20+9=28 d20+19=39
Tuesday March 14th, 2006 10:16:09 AM

Lian's smiles levels his face. "Vampires. She is a vampire... WONDERFUL!" The monk is getting agitated. "You know how fast and deadly those are?! And she leads this bunch? The sheriff, Amalee is likely a lower guardian of this Fidelia, isn't she? What sorts of beasts watch over vampires?
We still have no idea about this Collecto person, other than the fact he's a really nasty bloak." He thinks for only a minute.

"Lets put this together. The Lady Fidelia is a vampire, most likely powerful and old. She saves the humans for meals and doesn't have a taste for other races, killing the rest or allows her Enforcer to kill the rest for sport.
The best tracker in the realm works well at night... has deputies... a group.... a, a pack.

Hang on!"

The math is adding up for Lian.
"Werewolves makes most sense! A pack of werewolves? Trackers with a sense of smell. Great! Geez, the sheriff likely adds to her numbers and feed on the rest! The moon is out all the time here.

Is it full on the Hunt??

I hate this place more and more." He finishes, beginning to pace, wide eyes darting around.
The elf's senses are quite attune today. (Spot 28, Listen 39)

Milo
Tuesday March 14th, 2006 7:59:58 PM

As Milo ticks the facts off on his fingers one by one, his demeanor becomes more and more somber. "I'm not sure I like the sound of this."

Ingrge
Tuesday March 14th, 2006 9:27:36 PM

when finished Ingrge goes to bed.

Gunther
Tuesday March 14th, 2006 11:05:08 PM

Visibly shaken at Milo and Lian's revelations, Gunther tries to keep a cool exterior. Looking over at Brother Bertram, the warrior pats him on the back. "I guess dat makes you von very important man about now... Just tell me you know how to make holy vater."

Telepathy Abounds? - DM Donna
Wednesday March 15th, 2006 12:59:13 AM

DM OOC: hmmmm...I don't recall anyone else other than Milo figuring out the clues, as HE was the only one to roll the required natural 20. Congratulations on your PCs suddenly developing the ability to read the minds of halflings! ;D

Once Milo points out the painfully obvious, K'Nara stares at him, stunned. Then she lets loose a stream of invectives that would have withered nearby plantlife...had there been any in the forsaken land that the Talons are currently trapped in.

"Great--just GREAT!" K'Nara grouses, then turns on her heel and goes back to the hostel where the group is staying, muttering all the way. "It figures that something like this was coming along...dangnabbit! No wonder she doesn't want the humans hurt during the Hunt...who wants their dinner mangled by hounds?" The blade singer snorts and stomps and fumes, pacing about and obviously trying to come up with SOME kind of strategy.

"We have to find out if that rumor is true--" she tells the party, "--the one that, if we can get to the Twilight Palace before the Hunters catch us, we've beaten the Hunters at their own game. Heading for that Palace may be our only hope..."

Falin
Wednesday March 15th, 2006 1:03:02 AM

He follows the bladesinger back to the inn.

Olana
Wednesday March 15th, 2006 1:46:05 AM

"The Palace!" shouts Olana, reacting to her fellow Talons. Then her face clouds over, as though she's wondering why she just yelled out like that.

Brother Bertram
Wednesday March 15th, 2006 3:58:36 AM

Bertram ponders everything that happens and does the only thing he knows to do. He prays fervently to Domi and Gargul, knowing that it may not work, but as always, trying.

Lian
Wednesday March 15th, 2006 10:45:39 AM

Sigh...

Lian follows, still pondering his epiphany.

Milo
Wednesday March 15th, 2006 9:57:08 PM

"Perhaps we should start sharpening stakes now." Milo's smile is somewhat forced.

Gunther
Thursday March 16th, 2006 12:34:08 AM

As K'nara stomps back to the Inn, Gunther tromps along behind. She'll find a way...she's smart...she'll figure out how to save us all... Somewhat comforted by his mental affirmations, Gunther pulls the bladesinger aside looking very serious. "Ummmm... K'nara...I need you to promise me someting.. If she...ahem...catches me, I vant you to promise dat you'll kill me. Don't let dem make me von of dem."

Lian
Thursday March 16th, 2006 5:12:16 PM

As if hearing Gunther's thoughts, the monk, who is so frequently positive, chimes in with no smile on his face. "We're doomed."

Olana
Friday March 17th, 2006 12:21:55 AM

"Doomed," adds Olana, nodding her head.

Pondering Alternatives - DM Donna
Friday March 17th, 2006 1:00:44 AM

For a moment K'Nara just stares at Gunther...then she looks like she just wants to smack him.

"Don't talk like that." the leader of the Talons says decisively. "We will NOT fall prey to any vampire, even if Lian's right about her possibly having werewolves to help hunt us. We are the Emerald Talons and we'll stand our ground. We can beat these bozos at their own game AND we'll find a way home--ALL of us."

The tall redhead grabs the very rough map of the area and goes over it.

"Okay...it looks like we need to go northeast of this Crystal Forest to get to that Palace...this diagram says there's some kind of fungi field and some swamplands between the Forest and the Palace. We might have to skirt the fungi field, though--remember that Teser said some of the fungi seems to be able to move or trap the unwary if they get too close to them..."

(DM OOC: Technically Teser didn't say that in my previous posts, but she would have since she knew the Talons don't come from Harrowed Moon and, thus, wouldn't have the same "common knowledge" that natives do. As an addendum, my apologies for not posting until today, I've been a bit under the weather.

If your PC has any spells they specifically wish to memorize for the upcoming Hunt, please email them to me. Also email me if you wish for your character to be equipped with specific Items or Found & Identified Weapons that are currently not on their CSes.

The Grand Hunt posts will start on Monday. Have your changes (if any) sent to me by then or your PC won't have that +25 Garlic Bulb handy simply because it's not on MY copy of your PC's sheet!)

Lian
Friday March 17th, 2006 4:34:51 PM

Lian stays silent.

"No we will not fail", Bertram whispers, as much to himself as to anyone else.

Olana
Sunday March 19th, 2006 11:33:26 PM

Soaking up the wariness and frustration of her comrades, Olana slides a dagger out of one of the in-built leather sheathes of her tunic. She stares at it for a moment, then finds the closest door jamb, then slams the blade into the wood. Wrenching the embedded blade out of the wood, she slams it in again, and on it goes...

Gunther  d20+1=3
Monday March 20th, 2006 12:01:16 AM

Gunther crumples at K'nara's reprimand. "Yes, of course...you're right. I just...it vas stupid..." Though his exterior reflects defeat, deep in the recesses of his mind, a small, virtually unused portion of the warrior's brain begins to slowly turn the problem over. Examining it this way, turning it upside down, desperately trying to come up with some strategy to keep them from becoming vampire chow. It is very slow, trying work...and for the current moment, unfruitful (Int.=3).

Milo
Monday March 20th, 2006 1:00:21 AM

Alarmed at Olana's reaction to the groups communal apprehension, Milo moves quickly over to the elf and begins to quietly attempt to soothe her, and get her to sheath her weapon.

Falin
Monday March 20th, 2006 5:01:34 AM

Compuiter crashedd this weekend and I finally got the OS restored this morning. I am at work now and will ensure all is well with the CS. If I say something that is not on there then it is my fault.

"Well, what resources do we have? I think we should keep the fact that we know what our huntress is a secret. That can work to our advantage until the time is right." Looking over his inventory of items...

"I have the ability to fly because of my armor, but not for long periods of time. I also have the imovable rods. And if they are tracking us by smell we could use cantrip to render us without smell or make us smell like goblins and such."

"Something else I have been thinking about since we saw that forest was the trees. The leaves and such are crystaline. I bet if you place a light spell or some other type of light producing spell inside the leaves it would blind anyone around if they weren't expecting it."

He looks around with a slight smile on his face. "I think we have a really good chance of making it out of this perdicament."

Lian
Monday March 20th, 2006 1:08:13 PM

The monk thinks a moment about everything being said, then says, "Besides the magical, there are simple mundane ways around being tracked. Scentbreakers. Smoke. Both can be employed to disturb a dog's sensitive nose. Tanglefoot bags. Booby traps. Pungy pits. These can slow them down, especially if she's on that massive horse.

What do you think K'Nara?"

Ingrge
Monday March 20th, 2006 4:57:57 PM

Waiting of for theothers to return, Ingrge starts preparing what he will need in order to rapidly cast the spells he has prepared for the group.

Olana
Monday March 20th, 2006 10:11:11 PM

"Vampires," Olana says quietly to Milo, her face a picture of solumnity, like she was almost there, almost. But then she breaks into a smile. "Knife," she adds, stopping her destruction of the door frame when he tells her to.

The Night Before... - DM Donna  d20=15
Tuesday March 21st, 2006 12:13:18 AM

Bonecrusher (all this time) has been putting out bowls of some kind of stew, sober due to the fact that it was beginning to dawn on him that, perhaps, the Grand Hunt was NOT so "grand" after all. He smiles at Milo for helping to divert Olana from her using the doorframe as a pincushion.

K'Nara's hazel eyes fall on the steaming bowls, and she frowns thoughtfully, an idea forming in her head...(OOC: voluntary Intelligence check of 15.)

"Garlic..?" she asks the erstwhile innkeeper. "Do you have garlic to put in this stew..?"

"Garlic?" Bonecrusher echoes, shaking his head. "Nope...just tarragon and fennel and pepper and parsley--"

"PEPPER!" K'Nara barks suddenly, her face lighting up. "How much pepper do you have..?"

"Well...uh...um...I just got the yearly shipment of supplies last month..." the troll replies, obviously confused by the way that the redheaded blade singer is suddenly, rather intensely interested in his spices...

OOC: the group--the entire group--is now more or less reunited at their temporary home...Ingrge doesn't have to "wait" for anyone as they are all right there with him in the house.

Lian  d20+2=6
Tuesday March 21st, 2006 1:14:30 AM

"How much salt and garlic do you have Bonecrusher?" He askes. (Int check 6) "Wait, was it garlic or mustard for vampires?!"

"Are there any rivers or creeks near the castle?"

Ingrge
Tuesday March 21st, 2006 6:59:30 AM

(ooc how much time before the hunt begins?)

K'nara, I have a few ideas on avoiding these guys that I will innitiate an hour before we head out. By the way do you, olanna and Milo still have those non detection scavres the Tines gave us so long ago? I believe mine is in my pack somewhere.

Brother Bertram

"We also need to think about lessening our loads as well Friends. I am forseeing alot of running and activity."

Gunther  d20+1=17
Tuesday March 21st, 2006 11:15:55 PM

The warrior continues to contemplate, and this time finds it quite a bit easier (Int.=17). He looks over at Ingrge and Bertram. "Is dere some kind of vay to make magic sunshine? Or does dat vork vhen dere is no sun?" Continuing to think, Gunther ponders. "She keeps vat she finds.... Vell den, I suppose ve shouldn't be found... Vat if ve polymorphed ourselves? Could dey still track us if ve took a different form?"

Milo
Wednesday March 22nd, 2006 12:03:43 AM

"Yes, my dear love... vampires." Milo's face is a mask of concern. Concern about the challenge they must know face. Concern for his friends in the hunt. But mostly, concern for Olana, and her well being. "Lets go find some stakes Olana. Anyone else coming?" Milo sets out looking for wood suitable for carving into stakes.

Brainstorming - DM Donna
Wednesday March 22nd, 2006 12:05:42 AM

Bonecrusher looks at Lian rather oddly, since he JUST got finished answering K'Nara's question out loud about how he has NO garlic.

"I, uh, have a barrel of salt in the stores," he says, adding: "And there aren't any rivers or such in Harrowed Moon--closest thing to a body of water is the rancid muck that makes up the swamps that surround the Twilight Palace..."

K'Nara thinks carefully at Ingrge's question.

"I do believe that I still have mine..." she answers with a nod.

Bonecrusher agrees with Bertram that having the lightest load when you're running is usually best. Gunther's ideas make the troll rub his chin thoughtfully.

"Well, I'm no expert at tracking, mind you," the host says, "But it seems to me that, even if you change your appearance, you'd still have your own scent..."

Olana
Wednesday March 22nd, 2006 12:42:13 AM

Olana's current limited cognitive thought capacity seems to think it could handle the acquisition of stakes quite well, and so she smiles, and follows Milo.

Lian

Falin begins to go over his items and determine what he can leave behind, if anything.

Gunther  d20+1=15
Wednesday March 22nd, 2006 11:28:04 PM

"Ah...ummm..yeah, I can see dat." Gunther racks his brain, but his well is dry (Int.=15) so he heads over to Milo's group to start making stakes.

Milo
Wednesday March 22nd, 2006 11:51:22 PM

Once outside, Milo sets about the task of finding a dozen or so sturdy sticks for carving into stakes, and directs those who followed to do the same. All the while he keeps an eye on Olana, making sure she doesn't wander too far in her search.

Stake Out - DM Donna
Thursday March 23rd, 2006 12:35:05 AM

Poking out and about the confines of Reston reveals that there isn't too much wood to be had--trees are practically non-existent in Harrowed Moon. Fuel that is used for cooking or keeping warm is dried fungi.

Meanwhile, K'Nara is speaking to Bonecrusher, and the troll reluctantly agrees to let the blade singer have enough pepper to create two miniature "drop bags" per Talon. K'Nara explains that tossing a bag on the ground (or at any target) will cause the bag to bust open and spread pepper in a five-foot radius.

"Pepper should make it VERY hard for hounds to sniff you out..." she says with a nod.

(OOC: each PC will have two bags--when the PC chooses to throw a bag, the bag bursts open upon a successful hit to its target. If the target is simply the ground itself, then the PC rolls d100--the bag has a 99% chance to bust open.)

OOC: The inn MUST have beds, tables and the like that are made out of wood!? Right? What is the inn itself made out of again? I know we were told back when the description was given, but I've forgotten since.

"Do you have any silverware lying around, Bonecrusher?" The monk smiles. "Anything you have would be of great assistance."

Brother Bertram
Thursday March 23rd, 2006 1:08:35 PM

Bertram prepares along with the others taking the bags of pepper, placing them where he could easily get to them. He then gingerly removes 5 vials from his pack placing them about his person. Satisfied, He kneels and prays to Domi for strength, then a curiously longer prayer to Gargul, giving thanks that at last he would have an opportunity to repay his debts.

Falin looks over the remaining 47 arrows he has in his quiver. He takes a hint from the rest of the party and begins to remove the heads off of twenty (20) of them. He will sharpen the tips and then keep them separated from the rest.

Donna, I went ahead and made 20 craft rolls. I don't know what you wanted for a DC. The book places the difficulty for missile weapons at 12. I got a 27, 18, 22, 23, 27, 25, 30, 17, 26, 18, 18, 16, 23, 12, 22, 12, 27, 14, 22, 24. I don't know how long it will take either. If I don't have enough time to do all of them just let me know how many I got made. Thanks.

Olana
Thursday March 23rd, 2006 7:31:37 PM

Olana has arrows too, not that the woolly-headed elf would think to do anything similar, unless told to do so.

Gunther
Thursday March 23rd, 2006 10:51:28 PM

The warrior grins at K'nara as he accepts the pepper packets. "So vhat's de overall strategy here? Head tovard de palace and den clobber de guards?"

Lian
Friday March 24th, 2006 1:48:28 AM

"I'd be willing to place wager on the fact the guards won't be your everyday sword wielding buffoons, Gunther. Remember, she's undead.

I'll take those." He pick up the drop bags. "What about the silverware?"

Falin  d20+2=21
Sunday March 26th, 2006 6:14:51 AM

Rumaging through his haversack Falin tells Lian, "I think I understand what it is you are doing." Int Roll 21

"I don't have anymore silver coin on me, but does anyone else have any?"

Last Minute Preparations - DM Donna
Sunday March 26th, 2006 11:13:59 AM

The dwellings of the village are constructed primarily by putting a mixture of mud & thatch over a framework to create a crude but effective sort of plaster. The roofs are thatched.

Bonecrusher's only item made of wood that could be broken up for use as stakes is his dinner table, and he states categorically that he will NOT allow that to get harmed--it took him almost eight months to obtain it in the first place, since it was an import, and imported items require a minimum of six months' time for an order to be filled.

Falin is able to convert 20 of his arrows so that they are now (essentially) "flying stakes".

Bonecrusher regretfully informs the group that the only utensils that he has available are whatever his current dinnerware and pots & pans are made of. A quick examination of them reveals that the pots and pans are iron and his "silverware" is base metal.

"I DO have a nice silver platter..." he says, fetching an oval platter that has some simple but pretty etching on it, "...but I don't think it's going to do you much good."

Indeed, unless the party has access to some smithworks and someone in the party knows how to smelt silver, it would appear that there isn't much you will be able to do with a whole silver platter.

"You have the way of it, Gunther," K'Nara confirms the burly fighter's comment, "Once they give the word, our objective is to get our butts to the Twilight Palace. We'll take care of the guards or whatever once we're there. We need to end the Hunt as soon as possible...before any of us become 'snack food'..."

(OOC: once again my apologies for the late post--life has a way of interrupting at the most inconvenient times. The Grand Hunt will begin on Monday. In game time it will be just at moonrise, or at Harrowed Moon's version of dawn. Technically, the party will be able to get a good night's rest of at least 10 hours.)

Lian
Monday March 27th, 2006 10:16:01 AM

"How much for the platter? Is there a silversmith or black smith in the village?"

Brother Bertram
Monday March 27th, 2006 1:18:42 PM

Bertram's hand closes on the hilt of the sword. "This is all the silver needed..."

Olana
Monday March 27th, 2006 7:18:06 PM

Picking up a mixture of the questions that are currently flying about, Olana takes out her money pouch, calmly sits down cross-legged on the floor, empties the pouch of coin onto the floor, and sets about sorting it into three little piles - gold pieces over here, silver in a little pile in the middle, and coppers all stacked up over there.
She pushes the coins with her finger tips, sorting them accurately at high speed, then she starts to sort them out all over again - putting the silver over here, the gold in the middle, etc etc.

((Olana has 12 silver, last time I looked.))

Ingrge (sub Jan)  Kent's comp is on the blink
Monday March 27th, 2006 8:24:17 PM

As the others make preperations, Ingrge looks up at one point, after doing a fair bit of spell learning and computation.
"Before we set off on this wild escapade," he says, "I have spells here that might help. So don't go dashing off without them."

Milo
Monday March 27th, 2006 11:58:59 PM

The lack of wood for stakes leaves Milo at a loss for words. The halfling sullenly awaits the time when the hunt begins, watching as others make preparations, "Silver coins won't due, you'd need alchemical silver, which is much harder to come by."

Taking Stock of Stuff - DM Donna
Tuesday March 28th, 2006 12:25:17 AM

The troll holding the silver platter contemplates...he recalls trading a bushel of fresh vegetables for the platter.

"Smitty is Reston's blacksmith." Bonecrusher answers Lian with a thoughtful frown. "He doesn't actually smelt anything himself...but I suppose if any of you people know how to do that, his shop could be used..."

"I know that I don't know anything about melting metal..." K'Nara says, "...do any of you...?" Her hazel eyes take in the others as she asks the question.

SO FAR: Bertram has offered up 5 vials of what I'm assuming is Holy Water--plus he's armed with the silver sword that the party ID'd from the treasure taken from Bone Tower.

K'Nara's had Bonecrusher create and distribute two pepper pouches per Talon.

And anything done to this silver tray will require a skill check using Weaponsmithing (can use their Intelligence bonus but not the Weaponsmithing ranks) or Profession: Silversmith (full bonus) or at least possess the Item Creation Feat of Forge Ring (can add Intelligence bonus to roll.)

"It's getting late and we need to rest up for this Hunt tomorrow." K'Nara says with a grimace. "Let's hit the sack, then..."

Gunther
Tuesday March 28th, 2006 12:51:54 AM

Having no abilities to help out in the smithing department, Gunther agrees with K'nara's assessment. Time to hit the sack. Looking over at her, he winks. "K'nara...I'm scared...can I sleep with you?"

Ingrge  d4=4
Tuesday March 28th, 2006 7:46:27 AM

Well I can melt the stuff and then I suppose we just dip arrows in it while it is still hot. Though I'm not all sure how practical using a fireball to melt the stuff would be.

Ok everyone, I need to cast some spells on you so step forward when you are called.

Ingrge - non detection (scarf), Misdirection, prying eyes (48)
K'nara - non detection (scroll)
Bertram - non detection (scroll), Misdirection

Lian
Tuesday March 28th, 2006 10:51:27 AM

Lian looks at Milo, a disappointed look on his face. "Silver is silver. Whats the difference? Besides, this realm is a bit different than home, maybe its all we need?"

Looking at Bertram. "You going to pass the sword around every time some else needs it are you?" He askes scatheingly. "Besides, I am considering all options. I have no bladed weapons, but I would certainly feel better in this place if I had even a silver dagger!" He looks are Bonecrusher.

He happily takes the scroll from Ingrge and looks at it. "Whats this? I don't know this spell."

Falin
Tuesday March 28th, 2006 9:50:11 PM

Falin steps up to Ingrge when called. "Thanks" He says as he steps back to his gear and finishes getting ready for the hunt.
