Podo looks around. "Hrmm...what to do?"

Kendry
Wednesday March 1st, 2006 9:34:20 PM

Walking with Airin

Kendry enjoys the company of the engaging druidess and rogue. He is happy to draw her close as they lean on one of the parapets. "Yes, we do. My heart trusts in you." He considers her observation. "Yes, I've been thinking the same. Theology is not my strong suit, but it seems odd to have such a - uh - whimsical creator as Eberyon. If he is our creator - or co-creator with his wife, Maab - then who created him? Is he self-existent? We know he is not all powerful. Who is above him? And, yes, it is odd that the gods of our day are men and women of ancient times. Who knows? Under such an arrangement, perhaps some of our contemporaries may one day be gods, themselves. Then there's this Jericho. He's a power, a creator in his own right, from what I've gathered - but seeks none to worship him. Why not? Is there someone even above him? Some ultimate maker of all things? Or are we in some endless cycle? As most things seem to have beginning, middle and end... was there ever a time when only one was? These are things I think about sometimes, but I don't find clear answers, Airin. What ultimate purpose do we serve? What difference does what we do make?

"But, you know, though in some respects I can't grasp the answers to these questions - I believe - I in some sense know - that there are answers. The fact that we have a sense of right and wrong - though perhaps we make mistakes in the details from time to time - implies to me that there is right and there is wrong. And that therefore there must be some sort of ultimate law maker - a law giver. But who? And where? Why not make oneself known? Sure, we know some of the laws taught by the priests of Domi and Alemi, and others. But, since they - the gods, I mean - are people, in some respect, people like you and me - though I do not mean to make myself their equal - they are certainly superior in most respects - but they are born of a human father and a human mother, just as we were born of halfling parents.

"Then there are the gods of this time - of whom we have heard that they seem detached from the activities of this present day.

"What good are gods, if they care not for people?"

Kendry is silent for a time after making this last query. Then he adds, "Perhaps some would consider such words blasphemous. That's not my intent. I just really want to know."

What's up, Podo?

"You've been pretty quiet, cuz. Anything bothering you? Or do you just like to serve as counterpoint to my mouth?" he teases him.

Time with Alemi

Kendry makes sure that all are invited. He takes in what the Lord of the Oshirr House reports.

"If none of my companions now object, I am fully willing to let you know what we learn, Lord Alemi." He turns to his friends and companions and asks, "Have you questions or cautions on this matter?"

Gilan and Ciaran
Thursday March 2nd, 2006 12:35:35 AM

Gilan looks to Peerimus with a sigh. "I know not really...but Father is given to odd behavior...as much chaotic as nature herself. Mother is as you say, nurturing and caring but I feel that she could be worse than Father if angered...it is just slower to build." He lets his hand rest upon Ciaran's head as he tries to get his thoughts in order. "As for the halflings, they must go by their own experiences...but I will agree, it would seem that we will be responsible for Father's sleep in our future...what bothers me more is what Father says that will lead us to this decision." He stops rubbing the head of his brother and then gives a smile.

"Maybe Father asks for this as atonement for what he has done..." In a much quieter voice he adds something that he thinks could also be possible. "Maybe some of those that go do not support the idea of sleep...maybe some what him to be allowed a chance to make ammends for his misdeeds." He holds onto that last sliver of hope as he lays back on the grass.

The next day he decides to stay away from the meeting as well. He cannot bring himself to do more than spend the better part of the morning in prayer to Mother and Father. His song this morning is more mournfull than in the past...due in part to the conflict he feels.

Airin and Erwen
Thursday March 2nd, 2006 8:15:30 AM

The time upon the parapets with Kendry has been very comforting for Airin. She and Kendry apparently share the same feelings about the Gods from out time. Perhaps one day they will find those answers they are looking for... and who knows what will happen then...
After that she remains in his arms without saying a word. Cherishing the moment but she also feels an inner struggle as she herself is partly a druid...

The next morning she prepares to join Kendry in his meeting with Alemi but notices the druids Peerimus and Gilan are unwilling to join the audience with Alemi.
"You go ahead Kendry, I need to talk to them - I will join you a bit later."

Airin walks over to Peerimus and Gilan and first meditates with them. She senses a dark vibration of negative thoughts surrounding them. Why then are they here? Where do our Gods come from?

She adresses Peerimus and Gilan in druidic.

"Peerimus... Gilan... why do you guys look so sad? Have we not come to the very origin of nature itself? Are we wrong to persue on this quest? I have witnessed the power of the jewell our Queen talked about. The one we found on that tapestry...
We did not see the Father - and the one who claims to be the father is no longer what he used to be. Queen Maab did not see that... maybe your eyes a closed to see this too?
I am but half a druid... not a pureblood like you guys are. Maybe this does cloud my own judgement. Therefore I whish you will speak to me..."

Podo Danderfluff

Teasing Kendry

"Kendry, you know someone has to be your shadow to counter most of your statement of reason!" teases Podo to Kendry in return.

"If it wasn't for me, this group would have such a dry monologue for I had spice to any conversation" elbows Kendry as he grins.

Fog of War

As if emerging from a Fog of War, Podo looks around for what seems like the first time. "Oh! Where are we?"

Peerimus and Shaylin
Thursday March 2nd, 2006 4:22:14 PM

Peerimus nods to Airin as she approaches. He stands upon the eastern wall looking into the rising sun and his gaze remains there as she speaks. His left hand grips his ahsen staff, lean muscles tight as she continues. His right, seems at ease, stroking the top of Shaylin's furred head. The leopard is quite relxed and as Airin talks, she looks over at her.

A long moment of silence fills the morning air behind Airin's last words. Perhaps a full minute passes before Peerimus turns his head and looks down at Airin beside him. His face is hard and his angular jaw and high cheek bones are set even more by the paint and morning sun. "Closed? If only they were."

The lean muscular human drops to his haunches and his look softens. "Were they, we would not be speaking now Daughter. My world would still be righted and I would be clad with both armor and staff." Peerimus looks at Airin for another moment and then speaks, "Tell me. Who are the two most important souls in your life? What then would you do if I told you Kendry ordered the death of an innocent or cause undo pain to others and delighted in it? How quick would you take arms and the fight to his doorstep? How quick to even believe me?" Peerimus shakes his head, "It matters not. But know that Ebyron is the Father the creator of Mother Wold and all her gifts. No we have not come to the beginning, but well into the story."

"As to the quest, Gargul crafted the FeyStone with stolen rings of Ascension, tools to godhood. Tools Alemi now has and that we know he suceeds with. Taking Domi with him likely. Gargul is seeking his own path and his lies through the corruption of souls. Maab says Ebyron knows and does not care. The weaver of the Tapestry would have us believe Ebyron relishes in corruption of his creation. Which is the truth? What if neither are? Maab maybe lashing out, hurt by Ebyrons other interests. Ebyron may not stop Gargul because he can not. A creator is not all powerful, he merely creates"

"But that matters little as well as to our quest. We are moving directly against Gargul to remove the FeyStone from his possession. While not a god he is surely as powerful as Alemi and Domi have demonstrated. Alemi altered the very fabric of time when we arrived at Oshire House. Allowing us to rest and rework our spells for the battle that was to come. He could have slaughtered the whole of the opposing force."

"Gargul will likely show less retraint of power when we attack his very home. Some of us will likely die and then be put before Gargul the god. A god that will have the knowledge and memory of that soul trying to steal what was rightfully his by the very act of creation. I do not think a pleasant after life awaits any who find them self there."

"You ask what concerns me and you now have the most of it Airin, Daughter of Mother Wold. I am concerned to discover the truth and I am concerned for the souls of those I have come to protect."

Peerimus stands with the last and moves away from Airin down the wall. Shaylin watches him go, looks back to Airin and then follows the druid.

DM Kelly
Thursday March 2nd, 2006 7:38:29 PM

OOC: Wow, great posts! Although, as I read them I find I have nothing to add. You still need to decide what to do, so keep up the dialog. I am at disneyworld, and the wireless connection costs $10 each day. I will post tomorrow, and then probably save the money until I am back in my office Monday. Wednesday I leave for Costa Rica for 12 days. Unless I get someone to DM, I will have to postpone the game for that time. Any suggestions, Al would be great but hasn't picked up the bait in the LnB. Bralin
Thursday March 2nd, 2006 9:12:42 PM

The dwarf wordlessly follows the company.
They fret endlessly, he thinks to himself in wonderment.

Bralin is unconcerned. What they attempt to do now is already accomplished (or failed) in their own time. Had Gargul, or any other god, held antipathy toward him over the coming events, the warrior/cleric would not have survived his own birth.

Gilan and Ciaran
Thursday March 2nd, 2006 9:54:06 PM

Gilan listens to Peerimus as he explains it to Airin...better than he could at least. He leans upon the stone battlements as tears come to his eyes unbidden. "That is the big problem...all that I believe in is turning upside down...for druids it is our faith in Father and Mother that supplies the powers we have." He looks to Peerimus and than Airin in turn. "My beliefs are at the head of all of this...we have a saying back on the plains...put simply, "The Land My Life"." Tears touch the battlement as he feels things being stripped from him a layer at a time. "I have served the land on the Plains for most of my life...I have put my very life on the line to protect all life." He shakes his head with a sudden dawning of understanding.

As he lets a hand drop to the head of Ciaran he cannot help but stroke the powerful neck muscles as well, taking comfort from that solidness. "We know that we will succeed in our mission here and in the process Gargul will end up turning over a new leaf...no, he will not judge us harshly if we die here and now...but my major concern is what led Father to this." His other hand waves out at the ground, though clean now had been covered with monster corpses some time earlier. "What would you do sister if you were wrongly accused of a crime and then not killed but left to suffer in sleep...betrayed by those that you had a hand in creating...possibly those that you could not save due to something that Gargul had to hang over you." He straightens with his hands clenched in fists as he searches his own heart and knows that he would be filled with anger. "I would strike out that is for sure and nature would follow as the waves of energy rolled from me...the chaos would be nothing to me as I vented my anger." He looks again to Airin and shakes his head as he reaches up to wipe away tears. "Nature would feed of my emotions...how could it not as I would be so close to it...I would be Father...a spurned Father." With a sad little smile he moves to follow the direction that Peerimus is going though he will not follow him but turn to go to the gate. Ciaran stands and pads along with his brother, walking stiff legged and feeling the anger/pain/indecision of his brother.

Tishe' and Snout  d20+4=24
Thursday March 2nd, 2006 10:52:47 PM

Meditating with her spellbook and Snout in the grass and greeting the morning sun, Tishe's brown hair is cast back and her plain-looking face full of warmth. Yet words echo down to her from the battlements. (Listen: nat 20). All this talk about Ebyron the Father of the Wold, and Gargul, and what people may or may not think in times long to come. It makes her head hurt.

Opening her eyes, she spies the silent dwarf stalking the battlements. "The man of stone has already made up his mind", she notes to Snout. "We do, and that is enough for him."

She ponders that and her relationship to the Wold. It had only been recently that Tishe's druid side even knew there WAS a Father. She had ever contemplated the Mother. And so she shall continue to do so, she decides. Firmly.

"Be he Father of creation or of only some," she continues explaining to Snout, "be he with Gargul or away, it is certain that Gargulus and Ebyron are bullies and against what is pure and good. We'll get the Stone and deliver it to Maab."

Snout only grins and follows his human. Protect what is yours, ignore what is not, thinks the small croc brian, and be.

Airin and Erwen
Friday March 3rd, 2006 9:45:18 AM

Quietly Airin listens to both Peerimus and Gilan. As they speak tears roll down her cheek as well. They clearly know so much more about nature then anyone she has ever met.
Maybe they are right... maybe it is foolish to pursue on this quest... the way Peerimus and Gilan speak of it it's a betrayel of all she has ever loved. Did she not claim in the Mirror that she was a Lover? A creature who loves nature... yet she's willing to betray the Father as Gilan and Peerimus call Ebryon.

Silently she watches as the druids turn their backs on her. Only a simple thank you can cross her lips. Then she turns around and looks over the parapets. "What if they are right?" Airin asks Erwen, but the eagle only looks into Airin's watery eyes.

After a few moments Airin goes down and marches to meet Alemi. She enters the room and walks up to face Alemi ignoring her friends that stand there as well and speaks directly to Alemi. Her eyes fixed on his.

"Why are we here? Why are we about to betray the maker and going from our present why will you or us or anyone else put the Father to sleep? We are here because he returned to our time more angry than ever... because he was betrayed in THIS age by those HE created! Because those he thought were loyal to him put him to sleep..."

Airin feels the anger and sadness that she saw in Peerimus and Gilan and swallows the lump in her throat.

"Father was betrayed by Gargul. He was fooled into making the Feystone and handing it to Gargul. Should we not try to attone Ebryon in this age, avoiding trouble in our present? "

Airin then stops and breaths rapidly. Alemi is a God in their own present, but he's not in this age. He's a common man. Powerfull, but a plain human.

Where do our Gods come from and why did they become the Gods they are? Why was Ebryon put to sleep if Gargul was the one to abuse the Feystone?

Peerimus and Shaylin
Friday March 3rd, 2006 1:48:00 PM

Peerimus makes a single walk around the parapat and then moves to stand at the front gate. Nodding to Gilan as he arrives, "I am ready. Let us relieve Gargul of the Fey stone."

Kim to friends... OOC: Adam S has indicated to Kelly that he's willing to substitute DM!
Friday March 3rd, 2006 9:25:56 PM

For those who don't keep up in the LnB, Adam S (of Down Under) has told Kelly he is open to DMing while our regular DM is working hard at Disneyland and Costa Rica.

Stay tuned!

Hi everyone. Adam S. here, checking in. I'm up-to-speed with the module (thanks Kim), and I'm going through the DFR3 archives from start to finish (currently reading September). In other words: I'm not quite ready yet, but (hopefully) I will be by the time Kelly is ready to hand-over (tomorrow, or the next day?).

If handy, please email your character sheets to adam{at}designstorm{dot}com{dot}au. Cheers!

Tuesday March 7th, 2006 2:04:23 PM

Nezamil keeps his own counsel for the moment trying to understand the ramifactions of what he has learned in the past several days .

He wracks his head with all the confusing infomation setting it in order oiece by piece as he slowly starts to understand what has taken place in past history of the wold

The Dwarf walks about Osshirr house and up on the ramparts as gathers his thoughts

Kendry
Wednesday March 8th, 2006 4:24:18 AM

As the discussions with Alemi draw to a close, Airin comes in to the counsel chambers, brimming with questions and observations and the evidence of recent tears in her eyes. About to rise and offer her comfort, he decides to remain still and allow her to pour out her passionate queries.

He notes that she ascribes the creation of the fey stone to Eberyon, whereas Maab says that Gargul himself created it through the agency of the Rings of Ascension - which Alemi now possesses himself - and his story matches with Maab's. He does not yet disclose this, but rather waits to see how Alemi answers. The thought flits through his mind that Eberyon - at least in Kendry's native time - is now his cousin... And he thinks again of the story that Eberyon spun about the creation, and diminution, of the halfling race.

Surely, in his acquiesence to Gargul's twisting of faeish souls by incarnating them into foul monsters, Eberyon has something to answer for. But is he fully aware of what Gargul does? The tapestry would so indicate. Is it a fair representation? And what laws are there concerning redemption in this age, or any age, that a Maker should be in need of atonement, or even qualify for such? Pah! Too many unanswered questions.

"Has Gargul guards or wards or strong allies we might need to be aware of before we darken his dwelling?" Best deal with practicalities.

He notes that he needs to find out from Airin herself just what it is that pushed her to her present action. What have their companions been telling her?

ADM Adam
Thursday March 9th, 2006 3:06:26 PM

OOC: Trust me to get Alemi Himself on my first ever DM post! On my lack of posting: sorry for the delay folks. I severely misjudged the amount of reading from September to date. I'm happy to announce I made it - read every post - and had fun too (excellent characterisation!).

Inside:

Kendry and Podo seem to be the only members of the group who meet with Alemi at the specified time. OOC: please let me know if this is not the case.

When Kendry mentions he is now willing to share all of his findings with Alemi, the would-be-deity stiffens ever so slightly. In a steady voice he responds with a warning similar to the one he gave at their initial meeting. "While I appreciate any information you choose to share regarding the device, I again remind you friend: you must keep your knowledge of the future to yourself and to those of your own time."

Kendry asks Podo if he has any further questions but, before Podo can reply, an emotional Airin enters the room with a barrage of her own - blurting out a few choice bits of information in the process.

"Please. Cease!" Winces the now standing Alemi. However, much of what she intended to say, she has already said (in fact, all of it). Alemi composes himself and, for a moment, he considers her words. Sighing quietly, he gestures she sit. "Airin, you have many questions. And, I am sorry to say I do not entirely follow your reasoning for some of them. Also, others seem to be answers to which I may yet pose questions." He pauses. "I do not mean to speak in riddles, but these are puzzling times. As to why you are here, I can honestly say I do not know. However, I am grateful for your assistance. We all are." He again pauses, seemingly in thought. "Unless you have any other questions, I think I must meditate on this further. Perhaps we can continue this discussion upon your return from Gargul's encampment?"

At Kendry's question regarding guards and suchlike, Alemi responds: "There may be scouting parties roaming the perimeter, but you will have an advantage if you travel during daylight, as evil is usually most active by night."

Before Elemi sees them to the door, he adds: "If you discover how Gargul is infusing souls into monsters please let me know. That could change the momentum of the war and is something we search for anyway, so hopefully it won't change the future in an undesirable way." With that said, he wishes them well.

OOC: Airin, is Erwen with you, or making lazy circles outside?

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --

Outside:

Bralin paces the battlements lost in his own thoughts. From where he stands he can see Tishe and Snout enjoying some sun, and Peerimus and Gilan making their way towards the front gate with their animal companions in tow.

Elsewhere, Nezamil also finds himself lost in thought. He passes many injured students, some of which he recognises. Eventually he makes his way to the ramparts, and is presented with the same view as Bralin.

Peerimus and Gilan reach the front gate and idly wonder where the rest of the party is. While they wait, Shaylin and Ciaran investigate the plethora of lingering scents in the near vicinity.

OOC: I'll be posting regularly until Kelly returns now - and without all of these 'out of character' notes too. Sorry.

Kendry, lightly confused
Thursday March 9th, 2006 6:32:09 PM

"Um yes, Lord Alemi," Kendry replies. "Thank you for your time and counsel. If we learn what you have asked, I will do my utmost to let you know," he promises.

"Time to go," he says to Podo and Airin. "Miles to go."

He accompanies his cousin and his amour out of the room, gathers his things, and joins those waiting to leave.

"I think it's that way, friends." Kendry begins to walk briskly toward Gargul's home.

Gilan and Ciaran
Thursday March 9th, 2006 8:41:49 PM

Gilan has found himself a little more withdrawn lately as he has more things to think about. Oh yes...there are many things to consider that he did not really want to think about. He was learning too many things about the past that had effected the future...his future...than he ever would have wanted. "This bites grass."

Ciaran plays around in the grass and plants around. He is not searching for anything but just haveing a little fun now that he can.

Podo Danderfluff Pipewood
Friday March 10th, 2006 1:12:59 AM

"Er, Cuz, That Alemi has a dizzying Intellect! I shall be batty by night fall if you keep this up...my word...it's best to keep silent!" mumbles Podo to Kendry.

Tishe' and Snout
Friday March 10th, 2006 2:20:59 AM

Seeing her companions moving towards the front gate, the brown-haired mystic feels it is time to go. "Let's weave, Snout", she tells the croc, and the two move to the gate.

She bows a greeting to Peerimus and Gilan and waits for the others to arrive. "Though great is the danger, this seems a simple pick. We get shuttlecocked, go Walker on Gargul, and pick this FeyStone, and out we go."

"Now, does anyone else want to discuss a plan for doing it?" she waits with curiosity painted on her face.

And Snout just smiles.

Airin and Erwen  d20+16=26
Friday March 10th, 2006 5:38:00 AM

Airin realises she may have said too much to Alemi, but if mistakes can be avoided and change the outcome of our present, it could be worth taking the risk. Of course changing the course of history could mean neither of them would ever been born...

On her exit from the Oshir House Airin is very silent. He mind raging with thoughts of all kind.

Erwen joins Airin as she leaves the House and once they are on the road again, Erwen flies up to the skies, flying in circles above the group.

After some time she rides along side with Peerimus and Gilan: "Alemi did not give me the answers I wanted as maybe he doesn't know them either. I wanted to know why we are here... why are you guys here? ..." But without waiting for an answer Airin continues: "Oh well, let's wait and see how this unfolds. Maybe I'm just too young to understand."

and she leaves from their sides again to ride with her Halfling friends. She nods to them to show she's allright.

Erwen spot: 26

Peerimus and Shaylin
Friday March 10th, 2006 8:50:01 AM

The druid stands stoically at the front gate, his face as if etched in stone. His mind was still working on several issues the most forefront of which was getting the Feystone. Tishe's question causes him to blink several as if he just noticed everyone else was there. He responds with a clipped nod and a small smile. "I really have no idea what you just said daughter, but then that is not new." His smile broadens. "Though I know the thought. Yes simple enough."

"As to a plan, I would say move with speed and stealth. But I do not think this group capable of such as a whole." The group gathers and the journey begins. "We should send out a scout. The farther ahead and faster the better. Does anyone have a message spell?"

Airin moves up and Peerimus slows his greater strides to match her pace. He says nothing to the rhetorical statements, but her last catches him slightly. Why are we here? Peerimus begins to mull it over. It all began trying to discover the meaning of the tapestry and what I felt was a move against the Wold by the gods. Now this Feystone, a creation of Gargul. Possible it is the largest threat to Father and Mother ever devised. Could it be used as a weapon against them? Should Maab have it? Should anyone for that matter?

The druid moves to walk with Gilan, "Brother, any thoughts on what to do with the stone? I am unsure if Maab or anyone is the right choice. What are you thoughts on destroying it?"

Kendry  d20+10=25
Saturday March 11th, 2006 12:00:46 AM

"Yep. I've got a message spell," Kendry says in answer to Peerimus' question." We'll probably want to wait until we're closer to his place before we use it. It's what, another couple of hours till we get there? Say a half hour out - or even when we get within sight of it, then I'll cast the spell. It'll last about an hour and a half. And it's good for a distance of 190 feet away from me. And I can include all of us - people, at least, in the spell."

As Peerimus moves forward to talk with Gilan, Kendry strains to hear [Listen: 25]. Hearing the gist of his question, he hustles ahead to join in the conversation.

"Yeah, Gilan. What do you think we should do with the stone? If we get it, that is." He's not shy about joining in. They're a united group, right? "Don't know if you noticed, but I didn't promise Maab to take the fey stone to her. We need to think this through, carefully."

ADM Adam
Sunday March 12th, 2006 5:53:24 PM

For those outside, the morning sun has been quite pleasant, and has made for a good opportunity to relax and reflect on what has transpired in the last few days.

In particularly good spirits is Snout, who is positively radiating with enthusiasm. Tishe notes with some satisfaction that his tough hide is still a vibrant hue of green.

Soon a light wind picks up, and Bralin, Nezamil, and Tishe decide to make their seperate ways to the front gates with Peerimus and Gilan. Kendry, Airin, and Podo join them a few moments later.

On the main road heading South from Oshirr House the striking group discusses their immediate travel plans. Most of them recall Maab mentioning a three-hour journey from the road that leads to Oshirr House to Gargul's encampment. However, the detour to Oshirr House for the night took them a few hours out of their way, and they now estimate the journey to be around half-a-day in total. Peerimus raises the idea of sending a scout on ahead, and Kendry offers his services as a spellcaster, with his Message spell. Soon, however, discussion gravitates to the Feystone, and what the group should do with it should they manage to obtain it.

Stopping short a few minutes down the road, Bralin, Peerimus, and Podo note dark clouds forming on the horizon to the South and to the right of Ice Mountain. High above, Erwen also notes the grim looking weather with a high pitched shriek.

OOC: Any last minute actions at Oshirr House, travelling order, finalised travel plans, and anything else you'd like me to note, if you please.

Tishe' and Snout
Monday March 13th, 2006 4:26:13 AM

The cavorting of a much more energetic Snout has Tishe' wondering anew at the special properties of the water from Ma'ab's home. "Keep that water safe, Kendry, for it may help us in the near future." she tells the halfling whist pointing at the crocodile.

Tishe' is certainly NOT a fighter or scout, and is perfectly willing for others to make the plans, as long as there are plans that are made.

"Perhaps we need a battle leader to direct the infiltration?", she asks. "Kendry perhaps. While not a warrior, he has a good head on his shoulders."

"And I also think that the scouts should look for a place where we can hole up before getting to Gargulus'. Preparation spells before going in and all that."

"I also have Message, and we can hold one in reserve for if the pick lasts a long time. Most of my spells are enhancements for us like Haste, Cat's Grace, or my flying spell, or conjurations for battle."

Snout is just happy and easily keeps up with his human.

Airin and Erwen  d20+16=26 d20+11=24
Monday March 13th, 2006 11:05:25 AM

"I'm willing to move ahead of the group. Half a druid half rogue remember," and she smiles at the group.

"Maybe my short legs can speed me ahead of you all, or else, I will fly out there together with Erwen. I won't be able to speak in bird form, but once I get back to earth I will take contact with you again."

Airin waits to see if there are others who would volonteer to move ahead of the group. If no one takes it, she will accept Kendry's message spell. The dark weather will offer us concealment, though it will also help our opponents.

Can any of our druid friends cast a speak with animals spell? In that case I don't need to change back to human. Then we can speak like eagles do! This allows me to fly back and forth untill I really need to take cover.

If the group accepts Airin's offer, she waits for Kendry to cast the message spell (she gives him a good kiss and asks him to be careful), shapeshifts into an eagle and then she flies together with Erwen (with whoom she will be able to communicate freely now - and hopefully someone knows how to cast a Speak with animals spell) to the maximum of the spell range. (They can now both fly 80ft at normal speed.)

Should the weather get worse adn thus making it dangerous to fly, Airin and Erwen will fly lower seeking a place to sit in a tree before they get down to the ground.

Peerimus and Shaylin  d20+21=36
Monday March 13th, 2006 4:00:56 PM

Peerimus looks down at Kendry as he breaks in and does manage a small smile, "I noticed Kendry. What came of you meeting with Alemi?" his tone is even and calm. "What do you think of destroying it?"

As the group travels, Peerimus tells Airin that Yes indeed he has the spell speak with animals. Peerimus also agrees that until they are much closer there is no need of too advanced a scout but thought now before the group was under duress a good time to begin such conversations.

Peerimus looks at the sky with some concern [Survival 36 weather] "If Gargul's guard prefer darkened skies, they will have them long before we arrive." Before Airin leaves however, the human druid cautions her. "Many survived the Oshirr assault and word has surely spread about the eagle upon the battlefield. Any monster you see will likely not think you or Erwen a mere raptor on flight. They will try and kill you."

Bralin
Monday March 13th, 2006 4:26:32 PM

As is his custom, Bralin drops to the rear of the group, and maintains a vigilant watch over their backtrail.

The dwarf notes the clouds and nods wordlessly in agreement with Peerimus's assessment. As the druid doesn't press the issue, and as the halflings have displayed past difficulties in heeding the obvious, Bralin is compelled to complete the observation.

"We must seek shelter and continue with the morn."

Kendry
Monday March 13th, 2006 10:30:07 PM

In answer to Peerimus' questions, Kendry answers, "Well, I jotted down some notes." He extracts some from a scroll tube, then reads. "Alemi said:
"'I have found that Gargul is adding souls to monsters. He once had possession of the Rings of Ascension which I have rescued from him. I have studied those rings yesterday, and have found that they have a residue of use that bear his mark. They also show he has created another object from them. That object I believe is how he adds the souls to these monsters. Please, if you acquire the device or know about it share that information with me. The souls let the monsters level up and increase their abilities more than ever before. I am afraid that in time we will not be able to repel them, and the monsters will extinguish us and our kind.'
"Then, Airin came in with lots of questions - I guess after she talked with you, Peerimus. She seemed very upset - tears in her eyes, even, and she asked lots of questions. She spoke so fast, I didn't get down every word, but, here is the gist of it.
"'Why are we here? Why are we about to betray the Maker and going from our present? Why will you or us or anyone else put the Father to sleep? We are here because he returned to our time more angry than ever... because he was betrayed in THIS age by those HE created! Because those he thought were loyal to him put him to sleep...

Father was betrayed by Gargul.'
"Uh, then she said something about the Feystone and Gargul. And she asked about, something like, I think, seeking atonement for Eberyon in this age, so as to avoid troubles in our present. Their future.

"Well, Alemi still seemed reluctant to learn of us anything that is likely to occur in his future. Airin's questions were - well, he seemed quite reluctant to take in the implications of her words, lest reported future events color decisions he takes at this time. He did say that he does not have answers to all her - all our - questions. Oh, and I remember he said, 'Perhaps we can continue this discussion upon your return from Gargul's encampment?'

"Why didn't you come to the meeting? Gilan, it would have been good to have you there, too. For all your talk back in the Temple of Light, Peerimus, of wanting to make up your own mind on things, it seems your mind may be made up already, and you don't want to be confused with sources of input that may disagree with how you wish to conclude things. I speak honestly, and maybe my words will anger you - but, based on Airin's comportment following her conversation with you, I wonder just what it was you told her? I'm guessing you are reluctant to take any action - now or in the future - to check Eberyon's behavior in our native time. If I'm wrong, then tell me. If I'm right, then, well, I'd appreciate it if you were to tell me.

"Look, I respect you, and your power, and knowledge. And we come to this venture with different backgrounds and relationships. But if there are areas of difference concerning what paths we should take, then, let us discuss them, as companions, and not conceal them as opponents. Perhaps, in time, we could be friends," he offers tentatively - because for the moment, he senses Peerimus' attitude toward him, and his halfling friends, is as a superior to a lesser - as a sophisticate to a rube. Well, maybe I am a rube in some ways, he thinks to himself.

Kendry answers Peerimus' second question, "I'm not sure whether or not we should destroy the Fey Stone. Whoever wove the tapestry communicated that Gargul is using it with Eberyon's knowledge and, at least tacit, blessing. The author also wrote that fey souls are transferred via the stone to monsters. I'm puzzled as to why Eberyon would not care about this warping of those whom he has created.

"Also, it's worthwhile noting that the tapestry weaver wrote on the edges of his work the following:
Eberyon fashioned creatures noble, and created creatures fey. Eberyon opposed Alemi and to overcome him sought. So unto Gargulus gave he the fey stone. And through the stone granted he to Gargulus fey souls, and then did Gargulus pass fey souls into the bodies of beastly monsters. And then came to pass a great war.
"Now, Maab tells us that Gargul fashioned the Fey Stone, and Alemi's words seem to confirm this.

"If such be the case, then the tapestry artist was not fully apprised of the facts. For the moment, the only thing I can conclude is that the provenance of the Fey Stone is in question. I'll tell you one thing - I'd love to meet whoever wove that tapestry. It was through its power that we were returned to this time! Near as I can tell.

"Peerimus - I am not opposed to destroying the Fey Stone - if it is within our power to do so. But I'm not saying I support its destruction, either. The short-term or eventual disposition of the stone will tax our wisdom, I've no doubt. And, to whom does one pray for such?"

Then, as an afterthought, he adds, "Oh, Alemi told me, too, that there may be scouting parties roaming the perimeter, but we will have an advantage if we travel during the daytime, as evil is usually most active at night. And he also asked, if we discover how Gargul is infusing souls into monsters, to let him know. He said, um," and Kendry clears his throat, trying to echo the timbre and intonation of Alemi's voice, "'That could change the momentum of the war and is something we search for anyway, so hopefully it won't change the future in an undesirable way.'" Kendry resumes in his own voice. "Then he wished us well."

On travel time and planning

"Who thinks it's going to take half a day? Nonsense, if this map is right. Shelter? We're used to rain in Crescent Valley. We started out about eight in the morning, and the map we have shows that the distance between Oshirr House and Gargul's place is equidistant to that between Maab's and Gargul's.

"From Maab's to where the road forks between Oshirr and Gargul's is exactly the same distance as from Oshirr to where the road forks between Maab's and Gargul's.

"Three hours, still, or a wee bit more if the way gets muddy, perhaps. Now, on the map there are trees near his place, and it says here 'Monster Sanctuary' - that the pathway goes through. That ought to be interesting.

"What if, as we drew near the Monster Sanctuary, you, Airin, sent Erwen to fly above the trees? Now, what Peerimus said is well worth considering. Some will recognize your noble bird as our ally. So, there is a risk in that plan.

"And I do have some concern about sending you out well in advance of us. On the whole, your plan has real merit. But how about if we make such a decision as we get closer?"

He rubs his hands together. "I'm glad I have such a brave lass for my best friend." He gives Podo a wink, fully expecting Airin to slug him in the arm or something for referring to her only (only?) as his 'best friend.'

After she commits any mock violence she wishes to against him, he'll laugh and accept her punishment. If she hits him real hard he'll wince appropriately.

Laying out further resources for planning purposes, he says, "At some point, I may be able to cast clairvoyance to examine some spot we deem worth scrying upon. Or clairvoyance to listen. But it takes ten minutes of focus to cast either. I have a scroll of greater invisibility. Also scrolls of alarm, diminish plants, hold portal, identify, knock, mending, protection from chaos, and touch of idiocy." He waggles his eyebrows at the mention of the last scroll. "Just what someone needs to go on a trip like this!"

Kendry
Tuesday March 14th, 2006 3:46:35 AM

"Thanks, Podo," Kendry answers. "Oh - you know, if the coming storm cooperates as we approach - it might help to mask the sounds we make, and any scent we may put out, aiding us in the matter of stealth. Then again, we might just get wet."

Airin - Illegal second
Tuesday March 14th, 2006 4:04:13 AM

Airin listens to everyones remarks, and as they seem to prefer to wait a bit longer before sending out a scout, Airin waits to do anything.

The offer still stands, and whenever she needs to, she will do as she offered.

Peerimus and Shaylin
Tuesday March 14th, 2006 1:49:28 PM

'If I'm wrong, then tell me. The druid cuts Kendry off, his brow furrows and a dangerous light seems to glint deep in his eyes, "You are wrong." Peerimus looks up again briefly and then back to Kendry. The look before replaced with his normal visage. "Kendry, My mind is far from decided in the greater consequence of this. Airin asked what was troubling me and I told her. I asked if she would kill you on word of others that you seemed to not care of another's suffering. And to you I say the same, would you send Airin to eternal sleep if I told you she delighted in pulling the legs off of frogs? What if I said the same of Alemi? As a daughter of the Wold she was entitled upon the asking and by right of companion so are you. I have decided very little. What I have decided on is that Gargul can not be allowed to keep the Feystone."

At Kendry's mention of Alemi and the meeting his reply is a little cold. "I did not meet with Alemi because I could not at that time." With a small almost resigned sigh Peerimus adds, "Friendship is not the point and while you are acknowledging our differing backgrounds your empathy to such does not." To the insightful bard it is very apparent Peerimus is keeping his emotions close to him and certainly not sharing all he is thinking or feeling.

"But as I said, in the end it does not matter. Gargul can not keep the Feystone and I will see him relieved of it. To this point, that is my quest."

Peerimus continues to listen, "I am not advocating its destruction yet either, even if, as you so rightly mention, we can. Until I know who created the tapestry, I am giving it little weight. Your concerns and those of the others of Culverwood and what you have said have far more impact than it does on my views and what I may feel necessary to do." Not having much else to say apparently, Peerimus stops talking.

Bralin
Tuesday March 14th, 2006 3:47:36 PM

The dwarf shakes his head in resignation. Not three breaths before, the halfling just pointed out the advantage of travelling by day, and then dismisses the storm because it will make them muddy?

"Tis not the WATER," he growls, irritated at the need for such explanations. "The storm brings DARKNESS. The forces of Gargul have the advantage. Seek shelter. Resume 'pon the light of the morn."

Gilan and Ciaran
Tuesday March 14th, 2006 8:17:21 PM

Gilan moves over to walk by Peerimus and listens to his question. He ponders it for a few minutes as he looks at it from several points. "Though Mother is just...I feel that it might not be wise to give it to her." He shakes his head as this is making him a little nervous. "I am not sure who should hold it after we get it from Gargulus." His eyes take on a slightly more keen look as he ansers the second part. "As to destroying it...I am not sure how but there are few that I trust to hold it...fewer still that would not seek it out if we hid it." With a shake of his head he makes what some may call a snap decision. "I would destroy it if I could...unless it is not a choice." As Kendry pulls up beside them he laughs lightly. So the little one is starting to think a little bit of his companions...maybe question there loyalty or ability to think.

As the move along and he lets Peerimus talk he nods his head several times. "We only give our feelings on what has happened and as Peerimus says...she asked and it would not be right to withhold thoughts to a sister...we do not ask that she follow them blindly...we are all reasoning creatures and more than able to make out own choices." As the talks go on he snorts in disgust with the whole idea. Some hold too much faith in things and though he would hate to do it he would not give something this dangerous to Mother. "Lets worry about getting this stone...then we can think of dealing with it...one problem at a time."

Recap...

While deferring to Kendry and the others for a plan, Tishe does suggests they seek shelter a suitable distance from Gargul's encampment - for the purpose of casting preparatory spells. She also mentions she too can cast the spell Message. Snout simply grins.

Airin volunteers to fly ahead with Erwen as scout, but not without warning from Kendry. Still, the wind is light, and she is confident it will not bother her if it remains so. She suggests one of the druids cast Speak with Animals upon themselves, so that she too may communicate via the Message spell. Circling above, Erwen wonders why the group has stopped, when they obviously should be heading back to the temporary nest.

Kendry replies to Peerimus' query with as many facts as he can muster. He recounts much of the knowledge and advice Alemi imparted him. And, also recounts Alemi's response (or lack thereof) to Airin's questions. Soon Kendry finds himself with questions of his own, such as why Peerimus and Gilan did not attend the meeting themselves - sparking a debate, and only just managing to contain some very raw emotions.

Taking his cue, Podo discreetly pats Kendry on the back and quickly finds something else to catch his attention - not too far away though.

Finally the group seems resolved to address the issue of the Feystone when they actually have it, and they turn their attention to its acquisition. According to his map, Kendry re-estimates the length of their journey to be closer to three hours than a half-day. He also suggests they travel to the edge of the forested area marked "Monster Sanctuary" before sending scouts on ahead. Finally, he offers to cast Clairvoyance at some stage.

Peerimus eyes the darkening clouds on the horizon, watching them slowly roll over one another. Inhaling deeply, he let's years of experience under the great canopy guide him. Concentrating, he first checks the direction of the wind (North-West), gauges the drop in temperature, and tastes for moisture in the air. All the while watching the sky for seemingly hidden signs. After a moment, he understands the cooler weather is settling in for the next two to three days, and will probably rain lightly for most of that time. He also recognises the rain will be upon them within the hour. For the moment, Shaylin is content to eye the circling bird and the large reptile, having made a truce of sorts with the wolf.

Gilan keeps step with Peerimus for most of the discussion. When they stop he is the one to punctuate the decision to carry on with their journey, and worry about the complexities of future events later. Twice Ciaran nudges his hand during this uncomfortable debate. In support, or impatience, Gilan cannot readily tell - perhaps both, he decides.

In the background, Nezamil quietly thinks to himself.

Meanwhile, Bralin is adamant about seeking shelter, and hoping the weather passes. In fact, if the dwarf's comrades were to give him their attention for just a moment they would surely note his cheeks turning a purplish hue in frustration.

Moving forward...

Just under an hour later the first raindrops splatter in the dirt - heavy drops, and icy to touch. Ten-minutes later the group finds themselves in a shower, and trudging through a thin layer of mud. Another hour-and-a-half later they find themselves drenched (if without wet-weather clothing) and facing a turn in the road heading East and to the South (roughly the centre of the map).

Here the terrain changes, becoming somewhat rockier. However, the road has been decently cut and, asides from the slight mud, movement is not hampered.

Nearly an hour later the group arrives at a fork in the road. To their left is "Ice Mountain". To their right is "Monster Sanctuary", which they now see is a large, yet thinly forested area. A low fog hangs just below the tips of a needle-like grass that is prominent throughout the forest. Closer inspection reveals it is about half-a-foot deep, and dissolves at the forest-edge.

Please make Spot rolls (-4 rain).

[OOC: Ouch! Hope your daughter's noggin heals up, and that the injury was not too bad. Was there a concussion? -Kim]

Kendry's adventuring gear does its job in shedding the rain. Living in the verdant Crescent Valley, he and his halfling friends are not unacquainted with steady precipitation - nor of slogging along rain-soaked ground when necessary.

He takes in the words of his companions on this quest. He is pleased that Peerimus confirmed that Kendry was wrong in his estimation of the druid's position, and does not at all mind his quiet vehemence. "Perhaps - and I don't mean to place words in your mouth - perhaps you are saying we ought to grant Eberyon the benefit of the doubt while weighing our decisions. Do you suppose we should visit the Fae King, so that we can understand better his position on things in this time?" he asks.

To Gilan's last words, he answers, "My grandmother used to tell me not to borrow trouble from another day." He pauses, then, with a bemused smile, he says, "I'm not sure that I always succeed in taking grandmama's advice."

To Tishe's advice, Kendry pats the pocket of his pants and answers, "Oh, indeed I intend to keep the water safe until needed." When she suggests that Kendry figure out the battle plan, he says, "Well, I'm willing to put my two coppers in, at least. I think Peerimus and Airin are right, in that we need more information in order to formulate a plan. Perhaps," he says optimistically, "we'll figure a way to recover the stone without having to resort to battle." Then, thinking of the way ahead, he adds, "Though we may encounter some folks on the way to Gargul's."

He spends some time along the way with Airin, and he suggests they walk with Tishe' for a while, just asking her about her own life, family (halflings love to hear about genealogies and relations and such), and her normal adventuring companions.

"Bralin, if the storm is dense enough to bring the darkness of night in the midst of day, then I concur with your counsel. But if it's just the grayness of most storms, then I would hope that we would press on. Every night that passes without intervention, Gargul will make more of his monsters, I fear." He hopes this reply does not anger the stout and stalwart dwarf.

As they arrive at the forest, Kendry notes something out of the corner of his eye (Spot: 18 (22-4)). He holds up his hand in a signal to halt, and points toward the scattered weapons. He looks upward in the trees to see if he can see anyone, and listens as well (but not very well - Listen: 9).

Tishe' and Snout  d20+7=26
Wednesday March 15th, 2006 1:55:31 PM

Thinking that her voice is going to help Bralin get his (very few) words across, Tishe' is slightly non-plussed that they continue to march. Yet as Kendry said, if it not be too dark, speed may count for more than the waiting. "So too is the possibility that the storm is intended by Gargulus to hamper us."

Thoughts turn to action, and the mystic weaves her hand to Detect Magic in the clouds. (Concentrate for a minute (10 rounds) just to make sure)

And then they trudge on. Snout has no problems in the rain (it's water after all), but Tishe' is from the parched Sargrass, and this is VERY unusual. It helps that she has the halfling companions about to keep her mind off the unnatural sky-water. She soon tells them of the Sargrass Plains, where there are no trees, no open sources of water, and in fact where you can die by spilling water on the ground. "The bugs and animals will home in on water like a child to a sweet."

At the crossroads, Wart bumps Tishe' from his place at her satchel; the familiar's sharp senses have Spoted something (Spot: 22 with rain) "And there are tracks leading from the weapons into the forest.", she points out to her compaions.

Peerimus looks back to Kendry, "You must forgive me some for this will sound worse than I intend and I have little experience with Halflings. You talk a great deal Kendry." Peerimus fails to answer Kedry's last voiced expression bringing his full attention back to the task at hand. With the rain so close Peerimus advises against Airin flying off and will hold off on the Speak with animals spell

The rain begins to fall, "We are to be wet for several Days. Bralin, we might not be able to wait her out."

Shaylin leans further and further into the druid as the rain begins and eventually several pitiful cries come from her. Peerimus looks down at the big cat "Pitiful, you practice that look don't you. Absolutely pitiful cat." With a touch Peerimus casts Endure Elements and shares the spell with Shaylin. As the rain thickens and the terrain starts to change the druid continues preparations, casting Long Strider and shortly thereafter Myrridans Blackthorn.

Kendry points out the weapons and the druid drops to a crouch with Shaylin, his staff pulling across his lap. "To much rain to make anything out diffinatively. Can anyone see anything?"

Airin spot (at +6 due to heavy rain) = NAT 1!
Erwen spot (at +12) = 17

Due to the heavy rain and Peerismus's advice Airin waits to shape change and remains with the group. as she tries to see what's in front of them a thick drop of rain falls right into her eye blocking her vision while she wipes the water from her face...

Her leather armor becomes more and more soaked but once her eyes are free she turns her face upwards allowing the rain to splash on her face. In this foul day Mother nature is ready to swipe away evil from this place... hopefully

Erwen does notice something on the ground and picks in Airin's shoulder. Only then the Halfling lady see there's something hidden in the fog.

"We need to make a place friends. Let's quite bickering and decide later how to act once we are confronted with the decision what to do with the Fey stone. We need to go on. This rain will also conceal our movements...

Any one got a suggestion what way we need to go?"

One step at a time, probing, and also looking about. [Two spot checks, 16, 19.] He may not have noticed the tracks unless Tishe' first had pointed them out.

He tries to see, as he draws close to the weapons, if he can figure out what happened here. Oh - a dead kobold!

Are the tracks made by bare feet, or by shoes, or is there a combination of shoes and bare feet?

Tishe concentrates on the clouds for a full minute, but does not detect any magic - foul, or otherwise.

A closer inspection of the kobold reveals two large and widely spaced puncture wounds as the cause of death. Kendry also notes long flaps of skin that extend from the kobold's wrists all the way down to its waist, running the length of its inner-arm and chest. With its arms extended, he imagines the leathery skin would resemble the wings of a large bat.

Examining the tracks, he, Peerimus, and Airin realise they were made by a group of a dozen or more creatures, with a mixture of medium-sized boots, and smaller bare feet. Of the smaller prints, they note tiny claw indentations at the tip of each of the toes. Apparently the group, or groups, briefly stopped and, judging by the soil that has been kicked up in places, it appears there was a commotion involving the fallen kobold. It is difficult to say for sure with the rain, but Peerimus seems to think the tracks are fresh - possibly even made within the last hour.

Shaylin's ears twitch and her large feline head jerks upwards, peering into the trees. At the same time, a sapling (a small tree) near Kendry shakes violently, emits a high-pitch wail, and disappears - leaving a small goblin in its place. Beady eyes hone in on Kendry, and it weaves it's hands together as it mumbles something under its breath (Kendry, please make a Will saving throw). It then reaches for the morningstar clipped to its makeshift belt.

Suddenly the other saplings surrounding the group don't seem so harmless.

Please make Spot rolls (again, in the rain).

Round 1

Peerimus notes the use of a spell-like ability, similar to Tree Shape.

The materialised goblin (g1) points its stubby, clawed hand at Kendry as it mutters something, but the halfling easily shrugs off the effects of a Deep Slumber spell. Peerimus, Shaylin, and Bralin comes to his aid, and together they make short work of the goblin. Shaylin considers dragging the dismembered carcass up a tree, until she realises Peerimus is wheeling on other foes - her fur suddenly bristling with enthusiasm.

Thinking quickly, Kendry also looses an arrow at one of the hidden kobolds (k3), dropping it from its tree perch.

Casting Mage Armour on herself, Tishe prepares for battle to the comforting hissing sounds emanating from the 12-foot-long reptile at her back.

Airin expertly fires two bolts at one of the orcs (o1). Both of the bolts strike true, but what certainly should have been two fatal shots yields little more than a grunt. With a bolt still embedded in its chest, and another in it's gut, the orc charges on towards Tishe and Snout.

Gilan and Ciaran assume defensive positions and scan the area. Their keen ears sense enemies moving towards them from the South and the East.

Podo shakes himself as he realises the group is under attack. For a moment he feels slightly disoriented, but he soon notices the goblin being cut down, a kobold falling limply out of a tree, and an orc breaking cover with two of Airin's bolts stuck in it's torso. At the advice of the others, he keeps alert.

Nezamil scans the area to the North and the West, but does not detect any foes.

Round 2

Map update: view Round 2.

{ OOC: Apologies for the delay. }

Close by, three saplings suddenly begin to shiver. From each of them a hideous wail rises up, merging in a cacophony of sound. Then, in a blur, they shake violently into the twisted forms of goblins. Nearest Peerimus, one of them (g2) utters a series of words in Goblin and flings its clawed hand out in his direction. Similarly, the goblins nearest Podo and Gilan (g3 and g4) also cast spells.

{ OOC: Peerimus, Podo and Gilan: you do not need to make Will saving throws vs. Deep Slumber (DC13), as I will assume you successfully shrugged off the effects of the spell (so as to maintain continuity with the following posts). }

At the same time, the remaining two kobolds launch themselves from their tree perches. Leathery bat-like wings extend along the insides of their arms and, in a glider-like fashion, they swoop on the group.

Honing in on Bralin, one of them (k2) attempts a flyby attack. It dives to around seven-feet above the ground, and jabs downwards with its spear, but misses wildly (AC4). It then lands a short distance away and reaches for a sling attached to its belt.

Landing at Gilan's feet, the other kobold (k1) lunges widely with its spear, as it yaps something angrily in Draconic (AC7).

Realising her bolts have had little effect, Airin drops into a crouch - taking advantage of the low fog - and hides. Erwen, on the other hand, takes to the sky.

Then bursting from the undergrowth and fog, the group notes four brutish orcs charging towards them. Their greenish skin is mottled with patches of black, and covered in a glistening layer of sweat. Protruding from their heads are fierce looking horns that curl once around their pointed ears and jut forwards. Unlike their noisy counterparts they don't say a word - such is their focus.

Baring down on Tishe, the first orc (o1) leaps and swings with its ugly-looking falchion (AC24/Dam9). The blade slashes across her shoulder and chest, tearing into her flesh. Taking a step back, she stares into its completely bloodshot eyes, and notes a grim look of satisfaction staring back at her.

Having lost track of its initial target (Airin), the second orc (o2) side-steps and slightly lowers its horned head at Tishe.

The third orc (o3), makes a sweeping attack at the wolf, Ciarin, with its falchion (AC12). However, it doesn't connect and seems more intent on reaching Kendry.

Leaping over the fallen kobold, the last orc (o4), a female, charges towards Peerimus (NB: Shaylin gets an AoO first). Raising her falchion high above her horns, she swings downwards with all her might (AC13), but only connects with the dirt at his feet.

Round 3

Map update: view Round 3.

Pulling another arrow from his quiver, Kendry swiftly turns on the hideous fey-goblin behind him (g3) and fires. Flying straight and true, the arrow pierces the beasts' eye-socket, breaching the other side. Crumpling to the ground, its body lies still, save for the occasional twitch. Kendry then swivels on the spot and aims his second arrow at the goblin weaving its magicks on Peerimus (g2). He misses - possibly startled by the sudden appearance of a girallon at his side.

{ OOC: Kim/Kendry, I've left you in your current position (N13) - as it seems to be a strong one. However, please advise if you still want to take your 5 ft. step. }

Nezamil moves to assist Kendry with the first goblin (g3), but arrives too late.

{ OOC: Nezamil? }

From her vantage point, Airin takes a closer look at the gear and weaponry of the fey-orcs, noting black studded-leather armour, tattered boots, and nasty-looking falchions. Curiously, she also notes: Highlight to display spoiler: {they are squinting slightly}. Dropping her crossbow (on square: J16), she takes up her cold-iron bastard sword and intercepts the orc nearest her (o2) before it can attempt a gore attack on Tishe with its horns. Beating it at its own game: she spills its guts with her first attack, and decapitates it with her second. From on high, Erwen considers the intestines a potential snack.

Rattled by the near-miss, the goblin Kendry fired at steps backwards and vanishes into a tree. With his keen hearing, Kendry notices it reappear on the other side of the road, facing Tishe and Podo. Airin also notes the sudden appearance of the goblin.

Bralin ignores the kobold to his left (k2) and arrives at Peerimus' side, providing some welcome support. Together, they smack and slash at the female orc (o4), and are genuinely surprised at her resilience. Eventually, she falls to her knees and Peerimus deals a fatal blow to her face.

{ OOC: I factored Shaylin's attack of AC29/Dam9 as her AoO vs. the orc (o4). }

Reeling from the blow, Tishe puts some distance between herself and the fey-orc. With her shoulder-wound burning, she resolves to wipe the smirk off its ugly face, and launches five magic missiles from her wand. Each one burns deep into the orc's flesh, and it soon falls, writhing in agony. Before it hits the ground, Snout clamps onto its upper body in one swift motion and squeezes tight - easily separating the orc in two.

Smiling wryly, Gilan wild-shapes into a large girallon and watches with amusement as the kobold in front of him (k1) takes a 5 ft. step back in fear. In fact, so entranced by Gilan is the kobold, that it doesn't notice the orc (o3) moving up beside it. Furious that a puny kobold would hinder its path to Kendry, the orc head-butts it - its horns tearing into the little draconic creature's chest. The orc roars and flings the limp body aside with a flick of its head, where it lands at Bralin's feet. Seemingly unfazed by Gilan's new appearance, it continues on towards Kendry.

Podo whispers a few encouraging words to himself as he eyes the advancing enemy. When he hears more wailing to the West and the East, he realises two more goblins have shaken themselves out of their tree-like hiding-places (g5 and g6). The one nearest him, to the West (g5), is suddenly joined by another (g2) who magically steps out of a tree. They both weave their hands together, and point at Tishe and Podo respectively.

{ OOC: Tishe and Podo, please make Will saving-throws vs. Deep Slumber (DC13). }

The fourth goblin (g4) retreats (to square P18), and again tries its spell on Gilan.

{ OOC: Gilan, please make a Will saving-throw vs. Deep Slumber (DC13). }

The remaining kobold twirls its sling for all its worth at Peerimus (AC20/Dam3), and sends a bullet flying into his knee.

The newest goblin to tree-shape in front of Peerimus (g6) hurls its javelin at him (AC22/Dam1), and grazes his side as it fades to the right.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --

From further down the South-East path, a larger, uglier, darker fey-orc emerges. In a gravel-like voice he calls out to the group in broken Woldian. "Argh! Yuz dedded myz bitch! Yuz bastards!" He spits on the ground, before looking up again. "Yuz s'randed! Nut ya ken doo! Fro yuz weppuns dan an' we'z takez yuz t'Lod Gargul! Uvawize, we'ze KILZ yuz!"

Upon hearing their leader's voice, the others pause momentarily, allowing a response. However, each of them remain prepared for battle.

Trying to stave off the effects of the spell, Podo concentrates (Will = +12 +2 against Enchantments; DC13, roll is 19)and safely avoids the effects of the Goblin flung spell!

Attacks abound -- Flurry of Blows

With Darkwood Quarterstaff in hand whist still wearing all his magical equipment, Podo charges into the frey 10 feet to engage the spell chuckers(from I14 to F12)to beat those two with unarmed Flurry of blows. Striking Goblin(g2) (DC:20; damage:(2d6+2) 12), 2nd strike on (g2) (DC:32 (NAT20); second roll to see if crit DC:13; Damage: 8 if not crit / Crit=16); 3rd attack on (g2) -- (DC: 16+12 = 28; Damage:5).

Spinning like a top striking with a combination of feet, elbows, & knees while balancing with the quarterstaff Podo deals a most devistating barrage against his ENEMY! "How dare you interrupt my thoughts...." shouts podo at Goblin (g2). Pivioting to face Goblin (g5), Podo grins an most vicious smirk saying, "You're next! Don't even try to run..."

Bralin doesn't bother to respond to the orc. The dwarf simply strides forward into the enemy and lets fly with his axe.

A lethargy settles over Tishe' making her blink sleepily. A stir of angry fire comes from inside her and burns off the spell and she turns bright eyes on the two goblins. (Will save: 22)

"You should know it is difficult to overcome a spellcaster's mind, you of the stolen soul. Try this instead." And five more magic missles fly from the wand towards g5 (17 damage)

Snout spits out the disgusting orc body. Ugh! Worse than kobold! And then watches his humans back so nothing sneaks up on her from behind.

Airin and Erwen  d20+25=42 d20+20=38
Monday March 27th, 2006 1:58:35 AM

Airin hears the Orc leader but doesn't understand a word he says. Never the less, he's to be taken care of...

Going at double speed, Airin hustles towards the Orc Leader ending up in Q21.
Thanks to her Woodland stride ability Airin's not hampered by the thick undergrowth, however she does take -10 on both Hide and Move Silently.

(Hide: 42 - 10 = 32)
(Move Silently: 38 - 10 = 28)

Now she's only 15 to 20ft away from the Orc leader who hopefully did not see her just yet. Next turn... haha next turn...

Peerimus notes his companions' reactions to the call for surrender, hardly surprising and the druid certainly had not given thought to it at all. While the leader of this party is within easy striking distance the opponents are not all they appear. The Fey infused monsters are damage resistant and wielding spells. The druid decides for a bit of caution and casts Barkskin, sharing the spell with Shaylin. A quick rune is traced with one hand and the druid speaks a pair of words in a strange tongue, 'Baba Mlinzi' and for an instant his skin and Shaylins fur seem to stiffen and crack.

If Bralin has not already killed the goblin (g6) Peerimus and Shaylin move forward "Shaylin, Kill it." The words again are authoritative and cold. Shaylin is on the goblin in the blink of an eye. Claws and teeth rend and tear at it. [Handle Animal 27 Claw AC 26/ 25 Bite 26 Rake 21/19 Dmg 4/4 bite 7 rake 4/4 total 25]

Shaylin moved to R-15 and Peerimus to Q-15, regardless if Bralin already killed the goblin.

Round 4

Map update: view Round 4.

Kendry notices the large fey-orc's face contort into a foul grimace as he realises his bluff has been called. Hefting his double-axe, he clicks his thick neck from side-to-side, lowers his horns, and charges at Bralin. His blade just misses.

At that moment, the enemy continues it's attack with earnest. And, Kendry is quick to note the fey-orc that had him marked earlier (o3) has not forgotten. Slightly annoyed, the halfling looses an arrow straight into the fey-orc's chest. Surprised by the attack, it doesn't even notice the large shadow that grasps it with four powerful arms and tears its body apart in one swift motion.

Gilan throws the bits of fey-orc to the ground.

In a blur of movement, Podo knocks his enemy (g2) to the ground, unconscious. The halfling monk quickly dismisses it as a threat - with it's legs and ribs surely broken. Before he turns towards the other fey-goblin he notices dark blood pooling under its head, and its breathing becoming more shallow.

Meeting Podo's challenge, the other fey-goblin (g5) attacks. It swings it's morningstar high, aiming for the halfling's head, but before it can connect there is a flash and its chest explodes with a volley of magic missiles.

Tishe lowers her wand.

Bralin swings his axe and connects with such force that, even as the first fey-goblin falls (g4), he is able to take a short step and carry through with his attack, cutting deeply into the rump of the other fey-goblin at his side (g6).

Peerimus and Shaylin easily finish off the-fey-goblin-with-a-most-pained-expression (g6).

The fey-kobold that had previously fired at Peerimus (k2) steps towards a tree and begins to climb.

Meanwhile, Airin sneaks through the undergrowth and fog. In front of her she watches Bralin face off with the large fey-orc (o5).

Gilan gives no thought to anything as he throws himself at the orc that just ignored him. Through his rage he does not even feel the spell that rolls over him and then just... goes. That orc should not ignore him and that is the truth... now he will show it why.

Kendry fires his arrows this time at the boyfriend of the dead orquessa. What with Bralin quite close though, his aim is not as accurate as earlier, but he steadies somewhat for his second shot at orc 5. [Hit AC 17 for 14 hp damage, 2nd arrow hit AC 20 for 20 hp damage.]

[Spot 21; Listen 28] Figuring that Bralin, if not Peerimus and Shalin, will finish off the boisterous orc, if his arrows have not done the job, Kendry looks about to see if there are more foes hidden about. He also listens with care for signs of enemy movement. He moves down to P20 to gather what he might gather.

Peerimus looks about for other enemies. There is the kobold attempting to flee by climbing the tree. "One There." his hand outstreched and indicating the reptillian. The druid and Shaylin will quickly move to P/11 and O/12. "You will not escape."

The brown-haired woman looks around, but it looks like all the fey-monsters are down and out.

Except for that climbing flying kobold. If any escape, their chance for sneaking is completly over. "Piggie dumps", she mutters as Tishe' activates her wand one more time, putting five into the back of the kobold. (19 damage)

"We've got to be ready and move quickly through the sanctuary" she tells the others "if this is how the little mosters get tougher, how much more impressive will be trolls or giants?"

She prepares to move out, and a young Snout just grins.
