Morning Doings [DM SteveK] Thursday March 30th, 2006 10:44:03 PM
Vorelle picks the Cloak of Elvenkind
Dietrich wishes for the RIng of Protection (2000gp), Ring of Swimming (2500 gp) 1 cure moderate wounds flask (300 gp), 1 Bullstrenght flask (300 gp), and will put in the pot Bracers of Armour +1 (2000gp)
Theodore will claim a crossbow, the HHHaversack, and the Hat of Disguise.
No one else makes any claims, and Olyn is at Temple and MadJack is in the stable by the Wolves.
Vauhwyt makes the suggestion to only go about in twos, even while in the reletively safe City Below, and that they have a daily meeting place picked each morning BEFORE running off.
Olyn goes to the boy's apartments, but notices that the place has been searched. Nothing looks destroyed or thrown about with abandon, but heavy furniture is moved, cupboards and drawers are open, and the front door was unlocked. A thought passes through his brain that being alone and then completely vulnerable by being in a bath may not be the best course of action.
(OOC: Moving treasure to email for final count and organization. Can someone please start, as the Cyber Cafe will not allow me to download even to a memory stick!)

Vauhwyt and Mookie Friday March 31st, 2006 12:34:53 AM
Vauhwyt claims the masterwork thieves tools and two potions of CMW.
She gets everyone to agree to meet at the Temple at sundown.
Then she heads off to the WLA for some training practice, hopefully with Rose and maybe someone else?
Olyn Friday March 31st, 2006 4:48:44 AM
GM Highlight to display spoiler: { it's happening again. the group decides on one thing before entering the town, then, Cayzle decides to pull everyone someplace else and so a couple people who left to do a few things before the rendevous are left out of the loop. now, how is Olyn suppose to know after returning to the apartment that Cayzle has decided to stay at Roses parents hom then tells everyone to meet at the temple at sundown? there is no note to say so, no runner has come to Olyn to say hey, meet us at the temple at sundown. and I shouldnt get penalized (not saying i am) for reacting the way he does. another thing. Olyn expected the apartment to of been ransacked. they didnt plan on us leaving town to rescue anyone so when we up and disappeared I knew someone was gonna come trying to find out where we are. so Olyn wouldve straightened up, locked the doors, made sure his crossbow and scrollsack was in quick reach, and still taken a bath and sat down to read because as far as Olyn knows, the others should be coming back soon for our rendevous. }
after reading his book for a little while, and seeing that the group hasnt arrived like planned, Olyn will gather up some things, strap his light crossbow on and head out. first checking the marketplace, then the stables where the horses and chest was left.
DM Steve: Highlight to display spoiler: { Just making sure you understood the situation. You do. :) That being said, I didn't know that Olyn expected trouble, or was ready for preparations. Nor do I expect your fellow players know Olyn was expecting to meet up with the others at the apartment, because you didn't post those thoughts. Sure, the characters don't know the thoughts of Olyn, but giving clues as to why Olyn is doing a particular action can reduce misinterpretation. :) For the pulling everyone along, I have seen and noted the occasion. }
Vorelle Sunday April 2nd, 2006 5:00:32 PM
Vorelle agrees to meet the others at the temple at sundown.
"W-w-we should w-wait for O-Olyn an J-J-Jack b-b-before we d-d-decide who g-gets wh-what," she says about the loot.
She doesn't want to go to the WLA, but she is mindful that nobody should go anyplace alone. She waits to see what the others want to do today.
Theodore and Macaw Sunday April 2nd, 2006 7:38:09 PM
Theodore agrees with Vorelle that the rest of the party should put in claims on the items before divying up the loot.
He sticks close to Vorelle, not having anywhere to go, at the moment.
Another Day [DM SteveK] Sunday April 2nd, 2006 11:12:19 PM Vauhwyt is satisfied that she has a majority vote and off she goes to the WLA. Knowing the need for a little security, Rose heads off that way as well. They ensure thier weapons are peace-tied and head through the tunnels. After about a block, Mookie bobs his head and caws, "Hey Boss! How do all your crazy friends know to meet at the Temple? The half-elf and human weren't even at Roses?" Piper chuckles back and sadly replies, "And missed all of Mama's great cooking, too!" The day with the Woldian League of Adventurers is a good workout. You don't recognize any of the four people there, but you have your WLA membership on hand and they are more than happy to listen to your stories and pass on a few of thier own. And are also willing to provide a workout. Whew!
Vorelle and Theodore stick together for the day. Not having anything decided, they go to the stables to check on Jack and his horse. Sharing with him the news of what has been happening, Jack tells them he passed an uneventful night telling ghost stories and scaring the bejeezus out of the stableboy; great time by all.
Berlon asd Dietrich have thier own agenda and do thier own thing for the day.
Olyn locks the apartment door, straightens the room, and takes a bath with a locked crossbow and his scrolls in easy reach for company. It is nice to get off all the dirt and grime, at least for an hour! He is rinsing out his hair for the second time when he looks up and hears a knock on the door. Not the front door, but the door to the bathing room! And then a voice he recognizes; it is Jeraldh. "Boys? Are you back? If you aren't who's supposed to be in here, you are going to be in a bit of trouble!" Olyn finds out that Jeraldh also knew the place was searched and has been keeping a watch for the group (and he has a key to the apartment). "While the City Below is calm, your friends have made some serious enemies. No telling what may happen to one person alone. I've got some business, but my boys'll be out in the living room to keep you company." After noone comes to the apartment, Olyn goes out and finds Theodore, Vorelle, and MadJack at the stables.
In the City Below, it is more of yesterday. People look more relaxed, and nearly every corner has a group of House goodfellas lounging and keeping the peace. Near the Halfling Quarter, it looks to be House of Daggers. 'Rats (children) are running and playing through the tunnels and the Murals are still up for admiring audiences.
A scene is played out in a very public tunnel. Two men, one Dagger and one Wolf glare at each other and politely explain how the other is going to meet an untimely end. Seems that there is some history there, yet even though knuckles are white on the hilts of rapier and dagger, they make no move to pull them free (and a dozen toughs looking on sure helps with thier reserve). Finally, one hisses "So, why don't we take this Above?" to which the other barks a short laugh "Soon enough, violator of my sister, soon enough", turns on his heel and walks away.
Vauhwyt and Mookie d20+8=15 Monday April 3rd, 2006 4:50:07 AM
Mookie says, "Boss, did you call me Macaw? Don't you know my name yet?"
Vauhwyt answers (with a bluff check 15 to seem absent minded and nonchalant), "Oh, yes, sorry. All you ravens look alike."
"Boss!" caws Mookie indignantly.
That evening, Vauhwyt (and Rose?) go to the Temple of Ward, hoping that everyone will meet there, and that Jack and Olyn will have gotten the word, too.
Dietrich Monday April 3rd, 2006 8:27:05 AM
Dietrich passed the day with Berlon and other friends, and going to the stables too. He used the time to talk with people in the taverns, have some beers and gather knowledge about the City.
The warrior is eager to share the loot, but agrees with Vorelle about haveing everybody saying which part of it they want.
Olyn Monday April 3rd, 2006 12:17:29 PM
Looking and Feeling refreshed, and seeing Vorelle, MadJack, and Theo at the stables as he enters, Olyn waves a hello.
How fares everyone this morning?
Olyn will hang with these 3 for the rest of the day and follow them to the Temple in the evening.
Theodore and Macaw Monday April 3rd, 2006 8:26:27 PM
Theodore greets Jack and then Olyn. He seems eager to meet up with the rest of the group so they can make their next plans.
Berlon Monday April 3rd, 2006 9:16:39 PM
"Once we have I moment, I need to return to my lab. I need to take a moment to start... working on a few things..."
Vorelle Tuesday April 4th, 2006 1:07:36 AM
Vorelle wanders with the others, taking in the mood of the city and wondering what their next move should be. Haltingly, she tells Olyn and Jack of their plans to split up the loot.
Rose Tuesday April 4th, 2006 2:15:45 AM
Rose happily heads off with Vauhwyt to get some more practice in using her broadsword, riding, ect. She's wondering what items she should keep, but realizes that most of them she wont be able to use.
At the temple she automatically looks for Junior, before once again remembering that he wont be there
ooc: dm steve the girls have the original apartment (next door to Jeraldh's, that he owns). The boys have the one elsewhere (one of the guys bought it i forget who) and I dont think that Jeraldh has a key to that one.
DMSteve: See? I need you folk to keep me in line with all that has happened before :) It's the little stuff that's the killer...
Vauhwyt and Mookie Tuesday April 4th, 2006 4:54:05 PM
At the Temple, Vauhwyt meets her friends and suggests that they spend the night in the Stab.
"It is hard to sleep in a different place every night, but saferr," she opines.
She greets Jack and Olyn gladly and tells them about the loot. [OOC: Jack, any preference for any of the items? I got Olyn's in e-mail.]
Temple Talk [DM SteveK] Tuesday April 4th, 2006 11:26:23 PM
(OOC: Sorry about missing a day, the RL intruded uncomfortably :)
Luckily for the cleric of Wardd, he bumps into some friends at the stable and hears about the meeting place at the Temple. And after a day of wandering about the City Below (OOC: please specify when anyone wanders Above) they exh follow the tunnels to the Temple.
The City Below is more of the same that you saw yesterday: a return to normalty of being safe underground, with goodfellas of the Houses obtrusively reminding folk to play nice. With the City Above once more erupted in fresh violence, the tunnels are the only safe place. The promise at the Crypt of Violet and Arturo has been broken, yet another legacy of the machinations of the Prince.
The talk near the Temple is of the duel that was fought between Polonius of the Daggers and Lupo of the Wolves. It seems that after a bloody fight where Polonius finally felled Lupo, he only made it three steps before he too was felled... by the poison on Lupo's blades.
Clu'eth isn't there at the moment, but Olyn's status is enough to get them an out of the way alcove that is good enough for talking.
Dietrich Wednesday April 5th, 2006 7:31:39 AM
Dietrich is happy to meet his mates again. He heard about the stories above, but is already accostumed to that in Dirt City. His military vein would like to see someone powerful enough to impose some order there too, but he guesses this won´t ever happen here.
When he sees Olyn, the soldier meets the cleric and asks: "Have you found your answers with the Lucky One?"
The warrior greets everybody and is eager to share the loot. He also remembers: "Friends, Berlon joined the Merchants lastly, so he can buy and sell at the catacombs without paying the 5% fee. I´d suggest Berlon to become our official party tradesman."
Finally, Dietrich comments on the party´s course of action. "I think we should stick to our plan and make us popular, by deeds, but also by politics. Did we actually invest anything in the bards and gossip mongers? I´d also suggest that we find out what is going on in the Palace and with the houses. Who´s going to replace Suran? And how are the houses going to react?"
OOC: when are we going to be alowed to use the new, updated character-sheets with new skills, stats etc.? immediately upon receipt by the DM. which means that Dietrich, Theo, and Berlon are leveled right now
Olyn Wednesday April 5th, 2006 1:09:06 PM
answering Dietrich's question, Olyn responds with a simple answer: not yet.
/agrees with Dietrich about Berlon becoming party tradesman.
Theodore and Macaw Wednesday April 5th, 2006 3:03:08 PM
At the temple, Theodore greets his friends and takes a seat as discussions begin. Macaw paces across the young wizard's shoulders.
"Our first order of business should be divying up the loot," says Theodore in a matter-of-fact tone. "I have requested the darkwood crossbow, handy haversack, and hat of disquise. If anyone else should want one of those items, please speak up."
After the items have been taken care of, Theodore addresses Dietrich, "I still don't agree with the use of politics. We're not politicians. And I think the citizens are too clever; they'll see that we're trying to buy their love. The only way we'll obtain the hearts of the citizens is through hard work and determination to Dirt City. If our goal is to provide stability and safety in the city, then we should lead by example.
"Right now, Dirt City is in a state of purgatory. We have no government, and we can all be sure that whatever peace we have now won't last for much longer. Some group is going to make a play for power. I think our best course of action would be to do a little snooping and discern which groups are interested in what. Then we can weigh the pros and cons and whether we want to support or oppose them. Perhaps even suggest another form of government; maybe the Houses all sharing power by making votes or some such. I don't know. What do you guys think?"
Theodore has a nervous energy about him. His brown eyes shine with intensity.
Vauhwyt Wednesday April 5th, 2006 6:21:13 PM
Vauhwyt agrees that Berlon should be the Catacomber for the group, if he is willing to do that chore. She says that she thinks the group should act in good faith to do well by the people of the city. Sometimes that means fighting, sometimes talking, sometimes sneaking, and sometimes doing good works and charity. She is confused by Theo's reluctance to share the wealth. She's not talking about buying votes or influence. Shge's talking about helping the sick, the poor, the arts, and the children.
Berlon Wednesday April 5th, 2006 7:38:44 PM
Finally taking a moment to peruse the magic items list, Berlon's attention naturally turns to the potions. If no one else calls dibs, he'll take the Owl's Wisdom and a Bull's Strength potion. He wrinkles his nose as he holds up the Ring of Feather Falling to the light. "Or," he says unexpectedly to Theo, "one could just not fall." Gnomish humor is usually lost on the rest of the party.
When talk turns to the Merchants and Catacombs, Berlon shakes his head a little. "I didn't *join* the Merchants, we entered into a contract where they would help us out of our... situation... and I would help them with a service at a future point. While I think they are a strong ally, I'm not sure I have any more pull than anyone else..."
"I'm all for helping the populace, I just don't think right now we have either the strength or financial resources to do things on a grander scale."
"And I *still* say we pay a visit to the Prince's. There is no way any of his lackeys could have gotten to his private stash, I just don't see it."
"The bottom line is I think we need some more hard coin, and regardless of what we do next we should pay Neezer a visit..."
DM SteveK: The contract with the Merchants is expired. The service at a future date was the rescue of Alda Falquan
Vorelle Wednesday April 5th, 2006 8:29:58 PM
As her friends speak of influencing this group or talking to that group or investigating such-and-such, Vorelle grows more and more withdrawn. They are right, of course. Dirt City has become a dangerous place, where only those with the gift of gab can survive. Under the circumstances, perhaps it would be best for her to try her luck elsewhere. She doesn't want to leave her friends, but she doesn't want to be a burden to them either.
Lost in thought, she doesn't participate in the discussion.
Talking in the Temple [DM SteveK] Wednesday April 5th, 2006 10:57:18 PM
As life comes in and out of the Temple of Wardd, talk continues about how the group should find out about what is happening in the City and how to influence the people and Houses.
Berlon gets down to more practical matters. In distribution of the wealth is where he thinks is first priority.
And of course, where to spend the night is a concern...
Olyn Thursday April 6th, 2006 2:17:52 AM
He who controls the trade, controls the life of a city.
He who controls the life of a city, has power.
We have no choice to but to make alliances and right now, the most powerful house in Dirt City, is the Merchants. They offered us a safe place to lie our heads, a better deal than any of the other houses, and if you think about it, they have offered us a better network of intelligence than we could imagine. And if we decide as a whole to take their offer, I want Jerahld(sp) and his children part of the deal of security.
I guess I have made my decision Dietrich.
Rose Thursday April 6th, 2006 3:28:36 AM
Rose sort of hop, skips, and runs along to keep up with the others, which is why she isnt saying much as she gets out of breath. "We need to get somewhere safe and decide what we're going to do once and for all. Theo probably should consult his master, Olyn the temple, and everyone should contact someone you know and trust to see what the general feeling in the city is. I mean do we really want to be aligned with any group even the merchants She says as she huffs and puffs along.
ooc: does anybody have a copy of rose's weapons list? it's one of the few documents I lost when I had to reboot my comp and Inge doesnt have a copy. If not Rose will suddenly loose any mundane weapons of hers (I know I have my +1 bastard sword & +1 shortbow)
Dietrich Thursday April 6th, 2006 7:37:37 AM
Dietrich listens to his friends, and there´re points of convergence and ponts of divergence. First of all, he too wnats to get the loot discussion over.
"Could someone consolidate all calls for items etc. and than let´s sell the rest and divide together with the 5000 gp. DO you all agree on the method proposed, of *buying* the items with our abstract shares?"
The discussion with Theo is not new, but it´s also not that pressing. Anyway, he agrees with the wizard and Rose about gathering good information about what is going on.
COncerning Olyn´s new decision, the warrior is happy his budy won´t bind himself to the Wolves, but, although he agrees on many points about the Merchants, the party already decided to keep independent.
"We don´t have to become members to have business with the MErchants. I agree with Berlon and Olyn about contacting them, for information and maybe a good deal."
Theodore and Macaw Thursday April 6th, 2006 8:34:58 PM
"Charity and politics are completely different," Theodore says in response to Vauhwyt. "Paying bards to sing about us is politics. Buying food for hungry children is charity. I don't agree with politics for our group. Charity is great, but should be a group decision, not just two members of the group giving money away."
"I agree with Dietrich," says Theodore, nodding his head. "We have decided to help the citizens of Dirt City. Openly allying with any House would be counterproductive. Of course, that doesn't mean we can't make friends with them."
Berlon Thursday April 6th, 2006 10:52:21 PM
"The main benefit of the Merchants, at least as it applies to us, is that they don't require, or I imagine even want, any sort of permanent alliance."
"We should focus on dealing with the treasure, and planning our next move. I still think a visit to Neezer and company are in order..."
Talking in the Temple [SteveK] Thursday April 6th, 2006 10:58:53 PM
(OOC: Seems posts are slowing down, which I interpret as this between the modules as boring and little interest. So fix up your character sheets and divvy treasure, for we will move on. That is, unless you really want more time...?)
The conversation in the Temple wanes with the day, and from the high butressed windows, all can see the remains of the day casting out her rosy glow.
There are less people in the Temple now, as thier supper has called them, and it is time for each of the friends as well, since stomachs are growling.
The pattern is the same for the next week. The friends find a different place to sleep at night and in the morning they decide on a place to meet. Sometimes it has been nice, like Rose's house, and sometimes it has been not as good, like the abandoned store in the Backstab Quarter. Yet each of you manage to get some rest and some intelligence on the City.
1- It seems that the Houses will continue patrolling the tunnels of the City Below. After all, they each have an self-preservation interest to keep children and non-combatants safe for posterity. As long as one group isn't more powerful than any other, the City Below should (should, that is) be safe.
2- It seems the last hold-outs of the Palace have left and abandoned the structure. Doors are locked, windows barred, and former Prince's Men have been seen wearing the badge of the Daggers or the Darts or the Merchants. Of Logan or the blonde captain, there is no sign, but whether dead, fled, or hidden it is only a guess.
3- The Merchants seem here to stay. In the aftermath of such a disruption as the disappearance of the Prince, none of the Houses seem to want to start something as violent as killing the so-called Merchants House. And so, by fiat accompli, there is another House in Dirt City.
Vauhwyt and Mookie Friday April 7th, 2006 12:38:25 AM
[OOC: Oops! Missed a post! Sorry!]
Vauhwyt spends her time practicing at the WLA, or going to church (if anyone wants to go with her, let me know}, or making her presence known in the city by talking to commonfolks and being with them..
Dietrich d20+7=20 d20+7=10 d20+4=7 Friday April 7th, 2006 8:16:41 AM
ooc: so, how do we stay about the loot? Can I assume Dietrich acquired the Ring of Protection, the Ring of Swimming, 1 potion Bullstrenght, 1 potion Cure Moderate Wounds; gave to the party his Bracers of Armour +1 and is entitled to some cash, accordind to what the group gets by selling stuff?
First of all, Dietrich remembers to agree with Rose about keeping some magic items as party-items. This also reminds him about the proposition of having a party budget, which still hasn´t been discussed...
Dietrich uses his time to make some excursions through the city, sometimes Above too, visiting taverns, brodels, markets and the Stabs, trying to know what is going on.
Dietrich uses his contacts and Local knowledge 20; sense motive 10, military knowledge 7; to know/filter information about: - what happened to the Prince´s men? - who´s the most probable successor? - what are the immediate goals of: 1. the Wolves 2. the Merchants 3. the Daggers 4. the Knives 5. other Houses - Is there any sort of outside interference in Dirt City politics? - what is the mood of the populace? - how are the relations of forces between the diferent actors (houses and other groups/individuals)?
The warrior also keeps training and accompanies Vauhwyt to the Temple of Wardd to make a donation of 100 gp of his own pocket.
Finally, what happened to our visit to Neezer? Dietrich supports that idea too.
Vauhwyt and Mookie Friday April 7th, 2006 8:04:07 PM
Vauhwyt has a bright idea! "What if we sell the loot we do not want to the fence I know! He got us a good price for that skull. The merchants will get their due when we go BUY stuff from the Catacombs. Why give them a cut on the SALE too?"
If no one objects, she will go sell to the fence with a list and get an offer from him on how much he'll give the group.
Vauhwyt and Mookie (Second Post) Saturday April 8th, 2006 1:31:03 AM
Vauhwyt is glad to take Dietrich with her to church, but it is not to the Temple of Wardd that they go.
Dietrich, Please Highlight to display spoiler: {Vauhwyt leads Dietrich to a small gathering in a place that does not look like a temple. The clergyman saying the service is dressed all in black except for a red headband. The sermon is on being steadfast, and having firm resolve, and not giving in to regret or second thoughts. The god honored is not named, but seems to be a female. The most exciting part of the ceremony is the snake handling. Some of the participants, including Vauhwyt, are deliberately bitten, with no ill effects.}
After the ceremony, Vauhwyt says to Dietrich, "Thanks for coming. I think it is good if we travel in pairs at least, so I really appreciate it."
Mookie pipes up, "Personally, church always bores me to tears. How about you, Sir Dietrich? I am surprised you could BEAR it."
Vauhwyt adds, "Mookie, that was a very poor pun. Not even funny, really."
"You wound me, Boss," says Mookie.
Theodore & Macaw Saturday April 8th, 2006 3:54:04 PM
"That is a good idea, Vauhwyt," says Theodore.
"I have a little bit of money which I can purchase some scrolls with," he says to himself, though out loud. "I'm going to visit Master Geoffrey. Would anyone like to accompany me?"
Theodore waits for a moment before setting out to see his old master. He will inquire about his health, any pertinent information, and again express his interest in the star mages' guild.
Olyn Sunday April 9th, 2006 11:24:52 AM
Ill go with you Theo.
Berlon Sunday April 9th, 2006 3:27:51 PM
Stashing the two potions, Berlon suggests to Dietrich that they go pay a visit to Neezer. "Can we sell the rest of the items? I don't care what channels we use, it's just that whatever we choose I need to restock on some supplies. Right off the top of my head I know I need some Ptero Leather, a few gemstones and at LEAST a pound of Ogre hair..."
Before visiting the group's contact with the Merchants, Berlon will wait to see who wants to go...
Vorelle Sunday April 9th, 2006 4:08:10 PM
Vorelle is also in favor of selling the loot they don't want; she could use a bit of cash. "There are b-b-boots that g-g-go with th-this," she says, trying on the cloak for about the 20th time.
She has no particular errands in the city (other than avoiding her family), and will gladly accompany anybody who has someplace they need to go.
Rose Monday April 10th, 2006 1:50:07 AM
Rose will go to the WLA with Vauhwyt and visit among various halflings that she knows of in the city (various places so she wont be found). She will try to stay in groups of two or more, usually with Vauhwyt or Vorelle. If any of Vorelle's family tries to harass her Rose will get upset, then mad, and might start fighting if necessary.
At the first chance Rose will ask Olyn to cast continual flame on some hair ribbons of hers. She has the ruby dust and the hair ribbons for 4 castings. She may also have additional ruby dust for 4 more castings. (I'm not sure if she bought it twice forgetting that she had it or if it's just my mistake listing it in two different places on my sheet.)
Life in Dirt City [SteveK] Monday April 10th, 2006 6:19:09 AM
The days pass and the group gets organized and plans and watches the movements of the City.
Loot Distribution - The friends need to identify what loot they are going to keep and make a list of what loot to sell. 1- Vauhwyt and Theo suggests using her fence, Samule, as a way to maybe save some money from the Merchants. 2- Berlon and Dietrich is ready to go to Neezer. Before they go and talk to either party on anything meaningful, they are going to need a list of what they want to sell / buy. 3- Vorelle, Olyn, Rose, and MadJack are all neutral on the subject of money/equipment/magic, and the decision is deadlocked.
Gauging the City - Dietrich and the others use all thier contacts and Local knowledge to know/filter information about the City: - what happened to the Prince´s men? Looks like some have joined up with other Houses (the largest group now with the Daggers), some have fled the City (swamp, mountain, out to sea), and some have become unaffiliated and remained in Dirt City. - who´s the most probable successor? Dietrich and the others who ask get different answers to this question. Perhaps a bard singing at a street corner gives the best answer. "Until there is one candidate that isn't beholden to only one House, there won't be a Prince. And the only thing keeping the violence Above at a manageable level is that any House who gets too far ahead will be pulled back down by the others. Not a pretty picture, no indeed." - what are the immediate goals of each of the Houses? Pretty much, Dietrich finds out that the immediate goal of all Houses is to 1- maintain the safety of the City Below, and 2- grab as much power left from the vacuum of the Prince. Each House seems to have a different way of doing this. The Wolves are using bullying tactics in the City Above to get extortion money and are using bandits outside the city. The Cloaks seem to have a monopoly on information that not even the Merchants can buy. The Merchants are desperate to buy some muscle to protect thier caravans to maintain the trade monopoly. - Is there any sort of outside interference in Dirt City politics? Dietrich can't find any outside interferrance, though that bard he spoke to did hesitate before speaking... - what is the mood of the populace? Generally: People who live in the City Above are scared because once again, anything goes. People who live in the City Below are calming down and wondering about thier own advantages without a Prince and with warring Houses.
Visit Geoffrey - Theo and Olyn visit Theodore's mentor, Geoffery. The old man is doing fine. In fact, he has been getting a little more business since folk know that he trained one of the Black Bird Gang. As to pertinent information, alas, Geoffery had a cold recently, and knows no more about the goings-on than Theodore does already. And as for the Star-Mages Guild; "a great opportunity, that it is. Yet you will have to travel to Plateau City to make it a reality."
Dietrich Monday April 10th, 2006 8:46:12 AM
As Dietrich accompanied Vauhwyt to her church, he watches the cult in respect and wonders which deity it represents: it looks a little strange to him, and he makes a short silent pray to Domi. The warrior asks his leonine budy about it afterwards. As always, he laughs at Mookie´s comments and offers the bird a piece of salami he´s brought with him.
DIetrich will go with Berlon to have a talk with Neezer. For him it doesn´t matter to whom we sell the loot, let´s just do it. (I´m assuming than that nobody objects to his claims on the items etc.)
Dietrich also shares all information he could get with the party.
"We have to analyse and decide what we´ll do. MAybe the visit to the Merchants will get us more info and good business opportunities. As it seems, the Palace is unguarded, perhaps we could really do as Berlon suggested and raid it. Also, that point about outside interference; I think we should check it better. It wouldn´t be the first time an outside power meddles in Dirt City politics. Remember how someone tryed to start a civil war by killing the Wolve´s heir?."
Vorelle Monday April 10th, 2006 9:06:54 AM
Vorelle sorts the loot into piles.

"Is th-this r-r-right?" she asks, looking at the piles. "R-R-Rose, O-Olyn, d-d-d-do you w-want any of th-this?"
Olyn Monday April 10th, 2006 12:45:39 PM
Sir Geoffrey. Perhaps you can answer me a question. Have you had any dealings with the training and knowledge of Summonings? I have found my niche and it involves the summoning of beings to aid me and the people in endeavors. I really want to train more in this and learn all I can.
DIetrich Monday April 10th, 2006 2:01:34 PM
ooc: just a retification: Dietrich also wanted 1 potion Bullstrenght
And we shouldn´t forget what Rose proposed, to keep some of the items and potions as colective party stuff, instead of selling them.
Theodore and Macaw Monday April 10th, 2006 7:34:45 PM
"Thanks for coming, Olyn," says an enthusiastic Theodore. "I'm sure Master Geoffrey will be most pleased to see you."
At his master's, Theodore is glad to see his teacher in good health and spirits. "Well, I don't suppose there's a trip to Plateau City in our near future," he quips to Olyn regarding his interest in the star mages' guild.
He stays to listen in on Olyn and Geoffrey's conversation.
Rose Monday April 10th, 2006 9:46:49 PM
Rose picks up the bracer's of armor and puts them on (I assume since their magic that they fit). She then looks through the unclaimed items and starts making secondary piles (see below)
After this she starts looking through the potions and pulls out a few "These would be good for group items" She says as she adds a ring to the group pile.
She will then start looking at the pile of mundane items to determine if they are worth keeping (ie: what are the colors, sizes, and condition of the blankets, bedrolls, backpacks, rope, ect. I mean we arent going to keep rope that has started to rot.)
"We shoud keep the horses since we lost our other ones in the swamp. If we have to leave dirt city we'll need something to carry food, supplies, and stuff. In addition to group items we should save some gold for when we need to buy group items, bribes, and stuff."
when Olyn is around she'll remind him to cast continual flame on her ribbons. Rose wants glowing hair ribbons, that way she doesnt have to smell the pitch from a torch or the oil from a lamp, and will have a hand free instead of holding the torch or lamp.
rose's piles Monday April 10th, 2006 9:47:31 PM
these are piles of unclaimed stuff.

Life in Dirt City [SteveK] Monday April 10th, 2006 11:12:53 PM
[OOC: My apologies for those who haven't posted since I'm posting in less than 24 hours.]
Since these are days and days blended together, there is no worry about when the activities have taken place. Suffice to say that the friends have plenty of time to go see and learn and do, and still have the nights together to decide about the treasure :)
Loot Distribution - Piles are made and Rose picks out a few things for herself. Olyn hasn't made any particular claims yet, and MadJack is content to collect everything in gold. Rose makes the piles and suggestions for thier use. 1- Vauhwyt and Theo have voted for using the fence, Samule, as a way to maybe save some money from the Merchants. 2- Berlon and Dietrich want to go to Neezer. 3- Vorelle, Olyn, Rose, and MadJack are all neutral on the subject of money/equipment/magic, and the decision is deadlocked.
Geoffery - The old man looks at Olyn with sharp eyes. "Yes, summoning allies for a short time is somthing that can be accomplished in divine as well as arcane magics. I don't know how much I can teach you that will be useful for your own spells, but we will talk, and you will learn what you can." Geoffery is looking well enough, and the rest of the afternoon is spent talking of magical beings and all the types that can be summoned. The old mage does give a caution... "While summoning is not inherantly good or evil, it may be such dependant on the creature you summon. If your allied creatures from the Lands of Rest are celestial, you bring goodness into the Wold. Yet a summoned fiendish creature is opening a door to evil. Be they ever so powerful or useful, beware of that lure."
Olyn Monday April 10th, 2006 11:26:57 PM
Listens intently to Geoffery, and soaks up every bit of his wisdom.
Rest assured sir, I only have intentions, as Theo here can attest to, of summoning Celestial beings. Our last endeavor we undertook, the Celestial Hippogriffs I called forth to help were instrumental in achieving victory. It also helps I know the Celestial tongue and plan on aquiring a means to be able to speak with every creature I happen to call into being. Do you think that perhaps, sir Geoffery, that the WLA might have instructors there that could help me with this? Any and all advice you have I will take to heart and act on accordingly.
*ooc, i sent in my request to Cayzle last week for items*
Dietrich Tuesday April 11th, 2006 7:42:10 AM
Dietrich accompanies Berlon to have a talk with Neezer, but he supports the idea of selling the loot at Samuel to get a better deal. The talkings with Neezer are about information in general and a possible action towards the Prince´s place, maybe other assignments.
Concerning the loot, Dietrich basically agrees with Rose, including the need of having a party budget. He just has one doubt: doesn´t anyone of the spellcasters want the RIng of Sustainance? It seems to be so useful not to need 8 h sleep to learn magic again.
Berlon Tuesday April 11th, 2006 7:01:01 PM
"Let's go ahead and sell of the extra stuff and figure out how to split up the gold. Did I mention I need to buy some Ogre Hair? Once we're done with that, let's go to Neezer and then I need to swing by my lab..."
Vauhwyt Tuesday April 11th, 2006 7:48:52 PM
Vauhwyt fiddles with the piles. "Vorelle, you forgot these things of Logan's."

MORE ACTIONS THIS TURN:
Vauhwyt talks with Liam or Fiedel at the WLA post, and lets them know that she would be interested in a promotion [OOC: Ready to pay the 5 grand for advancement to the next WLA rank.]
She also sounds them out for info on Dirt City and recent events. She shares her stories with them.
She also asks about the reduced rate on wayfaring to Plateau City -- for herself or for a friend -- because she is thinking of sending Theo to apply to the Star mages AND sell the group's stuff there.
Finally, she makes a complete list of all the group wants to sell and makes a trip to Samule for an estimate on how much he woould give her.
Theodore and Macaw Tuesday April 11th, 2006 9:37:01 PM
"I hope the others are selling all of those things we acquired. I could use some money to purchase some more scrolls."
He waits patiently as Olyn converses with his master.
Vauhwyt to Dietrich and anyone listening in Tuesday April 11th, 2006 10:40:47 PM
Vauhwyt is pleased that Dietrich is interested in her secretive goddess. The liontaur describes some of the themes of the godess's worship. She is the god who helps victims of crime and violence. Where other gods are concerned about punishing the criminal, her goddess cares about how the victim feels. She helps victims to feel safe and empowered again. She offers them closure and a sense of justice beyond courts and judges. Vauhwyt is clearly proud of her goddess.
"Not only is she very caring about those who have been wronged," says Vauhwyt, "but she is humble and not proud. She does not run huge temples, and those who follow her do not yell it from the rooftops. I like Alemi and Domi and Wardd and other gods, but they sure are boastful."
Moookie yawns and tells Dietrich how tasty that piece of salami was, but, alas, so small!
Life in Dirt City [SteveK] Tuesday April 11th, 2006 11:55:45 PM
Loot Distribution - The decisions made for items, the piles are made for party and selling. Vauhwyt goes to Samule's for a price quote, and Berlon and Dietrich go see Neezer. Dietrich agrees that checking the fence is a good idea, and off goes Vauhwyt. Vauhwyt finds that Samule remembers her well. Though a little paler than usual (a cold, coming down with something) he has a smile for the liontaur and eagerly looks over her list. It requires an abacus and quite a bit of hemming and hawing before he gives her a price. "Magic is selling at the moment what with all the fey about and uncertainty in the air", he says, "and used goods are always in the market, yet at a much lower value. I could take all the stuff on your UNCLAIMED list for 15,500gp.(not including the 5000 gold; no one wants to launder that for a loss :) Berlon and Dietrich go see Neezer, who is very happy to see them. Alas! Neezer is unwilling to give any discount for the goods unless the group is all contracted with the Merchants for an extended period of time. His price for the UNCLAIMED list is 14,824 (not including the 5000 gold; no one wants to launder that for a loss :) For short term work, Neezer is still researching the Palace. "There are traps and perhaps some vestiges of the Prince's Men still in the Palace, and it may not be worth the risk to any potential investment."
Both Neezer and Samule can get all the normal goods that the party wants. Magical items can only be purchased at the Catacombs (You can make your Catacombs purchase as normal, just remember that Catacombs will take a cut and then the DM will make an additional cost for Catacombs purchases)
WLA - Geoffrey does indeed point Olyn towards the WLA, and they have training available if he joins. Vauhwyt learns about the wayfaring rates (OOC: I need to research) and in general the same information abou the city as heard before.
Vorelle Wednesday April 12th, 2006 12:19:50 AM
Before the loot walks out the door, Vorelle snags the potion of Bull's Strength for Dietrich.
"S-s-s-sorry, I f-f-forgot," she says.
Vauhwyt Wednesday April 12th, 2006 1:41:18 AM
If no one objects, Vauhwyt takes Samule's offer and sells everything except the potion Vorelle grabbed at the last minute for Dietrich.
[OOC: That's 15,500 - 300 for the potion, or 15,200, right? Add in the 5 grand, and the party now has 20,200 cash to split up.]
Vauhwyt goes over the math with anyone who wants to check her numbers.
The value of the claimed stuff is 20,507 gp. The value of the cash on hand is 20,200. That means that each person gets a total pile worth 5,088 gp.
Then Vauhwyt adds coins to each person's pile so that each pile is worth that much.
FINAL LOOT PILES:
Mad Jack 5,088 gp
Olyn 1 x Tongues (potion) 750 gp 1 x Darkvision (potion) 300 gp Bag of Tricks (Gray): 900 gp Ring of sustenance: 2500gp (ring made from a thick band of solid gold) 638 gp
Vorelle Cloak of Elvenkind: 2500 gp (Vorelle) 2,588 gp
Vauhwyt (702 gp worth total) 1 x Cure moderate wounds (potion) 300 gp Masterwork thieves tools: 100gp dagger of venom - masterwork, crafted to hold liquid in handle and released on a strike (302gp) 4,386 gp
Dietrich 1 x Cure moderate wounds (potion) 300 gp 1 x Bulls Str (potion) 300 gp Ring of Protection +1: 2000 gp Ring of Swimming: 2500gp (silver ring with a wave pattern etched into the band) (Throws in +1 bracers = -1000) 988 gp
Theo Handy Haversack : 2000 gp Hat of Disguise: 1800gp (dirty looking hat) darkwood masterwork light crossbow: 355 gp 933 gp
Berlon 1 x Owl's wisdom (potion) 300 gp 1 x Bull's strength (potion) 300 gp 4,488 gp
Rose (4000 gp worth total) Bracers of armor +2 : 4000 gp 1,088 gp
TOTAL VALUE OF ALL LOOT: 40,707 gp
GROUP ITEMS 1 x Spider climb (potion) 300 gp 4 x Mage armor (potion) 50 gp each = 200 gp 2 x Cure moderate wounds (potion) 300 gp each = 600 gp Ring of Feather Falling: 2200gp (feathers etched into the band)
==========
Vauhwyt has some personal dealing with Samule to talk about briefly. Will he sell her masterwork (nonmagic) armor and shields and weapons.
Rose Wednesday April 12th, 2006 3:59:48 AM
Rose spends her time with the others, and thinking about things. She'll get her gold exchanged for platinum and/or gems (if she can find someone honest, if not she just has to carry all that weight at 50 coins/pound 1,088gp is almost 22 pounds)
Rose will spend time with her family, as will several other members of the group since we're going around in 2's or more.
ooc: since I had to get a copy of my character sheet from Inge I just want to be sure that I have Rose at the correct level since I just now added the exp we got from the last module. Rose is level 5, she did not go up a level and has 10,715xp. So does this sound about right to you guys? I'm updating my equipment sheet with my new item & gp, then I'll make my new weapons list since the old one got lost.
Dietrich Wednesday April 12th, 2006 8:21:10 AM
Dietrich is happy to have his friends resolving the loot issue. Thanks guys! He´s quite satisfied with his share. To Vorelle he says: "No problem my dear!"
As stuff is distributed, the soldier reaffirms the proposal to have a party budget.
"Friends, we need to have some party ressources to do necessary things for the group as a whole. I´d suggest everybody throws in 200 gp. With that money we can buy info, bribe people, buy healing etc. etc. I think Theo or Rose were our treasurers? Somebody will have to take the party items in custody too."
When DIetrich learns that Theo needs to go to Plateau City, he reflects about that idea. Maybe it´s not exactly the right moment, with all the indefinition in the City, but the party as a whole could accompany Theo soon. He´s interested in visiting the wonderful place himself, and if that is important for his friend, let´s do it.
Finally, the warrior listens to Vauhwyt´s description of her Godess. He likes what he hears and thinks about getting an amulett of that mysterious deity too. You never do wrong by honouring the Gods... But for himself, he´ll stay with Domi the Brave and Wardd (after that miracle he´s seen at the Temple, his faith in that God has increase a lot.)
Olyn Wednesday April 12th, 2006 12:27:32 PM
Thank you Sir for your time and information. It has been quite useful to me. I will indeed go to the WLA, see what they have to offer and if it follow my ideas, I will join them.
Turning to Theo. So, should we head to the WLA now or go find the others? *Assuming Theo will say "go find the others"*
Olyn will head out with Theo to find the others, and upon finding them and listening to the decision on loot split, Olyn pipes in at the end: I agree with Dietrich that we should have a party fund, but 200gp is alot of money for each person to dump in for information and bribery. I want info, not set someone up for life in a castle. We are talking 1600gp for a party treasure. 100gp would be better, or even 50gp. 400-800gp available for that type of stuff is more reasonable to me. As for having money to purchase potions and scrolls to help the party on a mission, I have no problems with getting it from my own monies. I'm going to be the one using it. I know what I will or wont cast and at the end, when the job is done, and we split whatever we find, that's repayment enough for me. What we should do is when we do find stuff wherever we are, we never sell the potions or scrolls if we can use because you never know when those free items can be useful.
*Rose, Ive missed 1 giving out of experience and I have almost 17,000 exp. You should have at least 16,000 yourself which would be lvl 6.*
Theodore and Macaw Wednesday April 12th, 2006 9:43:21 PM
Theodore is willing to put in some money towards the group fund. "I think that Olyn is correct, 100 gold pieces per should be fine."
"I'll hold onto the money, if that's what everyone wants. I'll need to purchase another purse, unless one of you has an extra."
Life in Dirt City [SteveK] Wednesday April 12th, 2006 11:07:31 PM
It takes three days of hemming and hawing to decide, but finally...
The friends have split the treasure, Vauhwyt accepted Samule's price and now the moneies are given to each person. Rose (and anyone else) has little trouble trading up to platnuim or gems, since most of Samule's payment is in those large denominations. ("What, you think I have 20,000 gold just lying around in THIS city?") A small discussion evolves around making a party fund. While Dietrich thinks that 200gp per person is not too much, Olyn and Theodore think a pot of 800gp total is a much more manageable figure.
Dietrich is interested in Vauhwyt's mysterious goddess, but though she seems virtuous, Domi and Wardd are real enough for the grizzled warrior.
Olyn and Theodore both want to visit the WLA, one to join and learn special skills in conjuring, and the other to take a trip to Plateau City (the StarMages Guild is calling).
Rose and Vorelle spend a lot of time with Rose's family; getting "fed right" and "treated proper" and continuously amazed at the amount of tucker Rose's father can put in that small frame.
Berlon is able to purchase what he needs and to visit his lab for three days of mostly uninterrupted study.
MadJack thanks the group and plans to come back to Dirt City, but he has some private business that needs taking care of. "Gotta see a man about a wallaby", he says cheerfully. "Don't you worry none, cause Jack will be back when you least expect it." Soon, he is on his horse and trotting out of the city.
Vauhwyt gets some interesting information from her fence. When she collects the monies, Samule nods at her request to get Masterwork items "at cost". "They don't like to talk about it," he says in a conspiratorial whisper, "but the Merchants don't own ALL transactions. Oh, they got MOST all right. But just like the Wolves know a little information the Cloaks have some bully-boys, each House has a little of the pie." Samule looks around and then leans in towards the thin liontaur. "For instance, I've got someone with information about a certain recently abandoned royal structure. He'll pay me handsomely to find a group to retrieve a very special object from the place, but you all need to be here for me to collect. Tell me when you and your friends can visit, and I'll have the information source here for the offer."
Vorelle Thursday April 13th, 2006 12:40:34 AM
Vorelle hopes nobody noticed how she blushed when Dietrich called her "dear."
She is willing to pay either 100 or 200 gold into the party fund, whatever the group decides. As for her remaining funds...
"I w-want to g-go to the C-C-Catacombs," she says. "Will s-s-somebody c-c-come with me?"
Vauhwyt Thursday April 13th, 2006 1:02:18 AM
Vauhwyt takes stock of her possessions. She has a grand total of 4386 gp from the loot division, plus 140 gp she had lying around.
She also has the following items to trade or sell, in order of most willing to trade to least willing.:
masterwork large ranseur (lotto prize) (320 gp) a Dirt-City-grey-coloured three man tent (xmas GG present) (?? gp) 1 scroll of Reduce Person (25 gp) 1 scroll of Silent Image (25 gp) 3 scrolls ray enfeeb (75 gp) 4 scrolls cure light wounds (100 gp) 1 scroll of Rope Trick (150 gp) 2 scrolls of Shield (50 gp) 1 scroll of Obscuring Mist (25 gp) disguise kit (2 of 10 used) (80 gp?) 1 10-ft piece of rope (?? gp) 2 potions of cure light wounds (1d8+1) (100 gp) 1 scroll of Unseen Servant (25 gp)
She needs to obtain ...
5,000 gp for WLA dues 100 gp to spend on recent charity around Dirt City 100 gp to kick into the group kitty Masterwork large quadruped padded armor (cost 170 gp) Masterwork large Armor Spikes on armor (cost 400 gp) Large buckler (cost 30 gp) Masterwork large spiked gauntlet (310 gp)
She thinks she will have to sell something else. She also is willing to sell
• *A masterwork silver flute in a brown velvet bag (a 2004 CC holiday present) • *A bottle of perfume with a picture of a fairy on it blowing a kiss (same GG contest)
If that is not enough, she will also sell a potion of Cure Moderate Wounds. If that is STILL not enough, then just a regular spiked glove, not masterwork.
==========
Vauhwyt relays Samule's offer to the group.
She helps Theo get the discount wayfaring rate. She would like to see the fabled Plateau City.
Vauhwyt, a former Catacombs clerk, volunteers to go with Vorelle to the shop. She points out that if the entire group goes to Plat City, they can visit the CC with no surcharge.
Rose Thursday April 13th, 2006 4:14:44 AM
Rose thinks for a minute "Would we save anything on the catacombs purchases by everyone going to Plateau City if we pay for the expense to get there? Or would it be better just to have a few people do the buying and selling and save on travel?"
Rose will dig a few things out of her bag that she wishes to sell, and just hands over the money for a few of the items Vauhwyt wants to sell. "I'll buy those, that way you wont have a price reduction at the catacombs." Rose will buy any cure potions or scrolls that Vauhwyt has.
selling waxed cotton sludge green waterproof pants, from xmas tree 10 crossbow bolts in a blue painted wooden box, from xmas tree masterwork longsword, lotto 7/26/05
buying, hmm i dont think I'll buy anything (unless the dm confirms I'm at the wrong level & i need to upgrade my wla and even that can wait)
Dietrich Thursday April 13th, 2006 8:37:22 AM
The warrior smirks when he sees Vorelle´s reaction; it´s a pitty the pretty ranger is so shy. Anyway, he too wants to go to the catacombs: he needs a new long-bow, the old one got to weak for his arms.
"Vorelle, we could train together again. When I buy the new bow, I´ll have to get used to it. And I realized your hand-to-hand combat techniques have improved too. Some sparring would be quite interesting!"
Dietrich agrees to the 100 gp party budget and pays his part to Theo.
He´s sorry JAck has to leave the party; he was eager to see the man´s style in battle. "Farewell than, and may Domi keep your courage!"
Concerning Vauhwyt´s needs, he´ll have to wait for the results of his own transactions firts. He just asks her about the name of her Goddess and gives a 50 gp contribution to the Temple.
Finally, when he learns about the possibility of a new assignment, he´s all ears. The last fight was so exciting and so short! Also, a good way of weakening the Prince even more. Now that Suran is definitely an enemy, better smash him into dust for sure.
Olyn Thursday April 13th, 2006 10:53:54 AM
Walks with Theo to the WLA, and slips him 100gp for party funds.
Theodore and Macaw Thursday April 13th, 2006 9:37:05 PM
Theodore accompanies Olyn to the WLA. He is eager to look around and learn everything he can.
Berlon Thursday April 13th, 2006 11:26:07 PM
Berlon seems to be in an extra good mood, as he finally has some coin to do something with. He takes any that wants to follow him on a whirlwind shopping spree.
First he visits a strange looking shop that obviously supplies magical using types with the ingredients of their craft. Surprisingly, he does not buy any of the aforementions Ogre Hair, but rather some powdered gemstones, a ceramic container, and a couple pounds of some sort of waxy substance that's probably best left unidentified. All in all he spends about two thousand gold!
Not done yet, he stops off at the Catacombs with important business to conduct...
Once that is completed, he returns to his lab for the first time in days. He digs right in and starts to work, using his newly acquired ingredients on his latest concoction....

Life in Dirt City [SteveK] Thursday April 13th, 2006 11:28:32 PM
[OOC: Dave(MadJack) is recovering from eye surgury. He is having trouble reading the computer, and so this is a good place for MadJack to do some stuff on his own. Looking forward myself to have him back.]
[OOC 2: {b]And this is my announcement that the Dirt City permenant DM is Inge.[/b] I'm going to be moving to be the DM of Giggling Ghost and Tapestry Games. Though I have had a couple of RW breaks with Dirt City, I'll take this opportunity to tell you all that in the last 13 months I have had a whole lot of fun playing with you. This is an exciting and well role-played group. I'm going to be posting as DM until a pre-set point through conversation with Inge, but at this point, I'm your guest DM :) Though I'm leaving, I'm still around in the Wold, and know I'm leaving you in the very capable hands of Inge.]
Vorelle goes to the Catacombs (OOC: use as normal)
Vauhwyt gathers her stuff to buy what she needs. Rose buys the healing potions and scrolls off the liontaur, and while the 10' of rope is pretty worthless, Samule will take it and the 3-man DirtCity gray tent for 50gp. The flute he offers 150gp and, sniffing the contents, offers 25gp for the perfume. She can buy what she wants "at cost" from Samule or other merchants around the City. (OOC: Make the changes on her character sheet)
Rose sells some items at Samule's shop who offers 1gp for the bolts, 315gp for the sword, and "ugh! what a color! Still the waterproofing is useful even though the cotton won't keep anyone warm. I'll take them off your hands for 10gp, and that's a bargain!" Samule looks at Rose, and then at Vauhwyt. "What do you think about my offer? The client is very eager to meet with you all and could be persuaded, I think, to sweeten the deal", he looks sly, as if giving away insider information. "Hey, you have just given me a whole bunch of business. You help me, and now I help you!"
Dietrich suggests bow and melee sparring with Vorelle, provides money for the party kitty (not to the party kitty; he gives it to Theodore instead :), and is very interested in Samules offer of a job against the Prince.
Olyn and Theodore go to WLA and meet the white haired halfling who helped you at Berlon's village. "Hey! look what the cat dragged in! Where is she, by the way? Vauhwyt that is, not the cat, though some would call her that but not to her face if it was good for them if you know what I mean." He winks and listens to the two friends. "Are you interested in joining? Our rules and benefits are posted right over there, as I can see you are both well educated and can read. (OOC: See Oshirr House for rules) You can start with the basic benefits package today if you want. Vauhwyt and Rose are two valued members of the WLA."
Vorelle Friday April 14th, 2006 12:05:55 AM
Vorelle is cautiously interested in Samuele's offer, and will go see him with the others, if that's what they decide to do.
Meanwhile, she is shopping.
Vauhwyt Friday April 14th, 2006 6:52:14 AM
Vauhwyt tells Rose tht she will not have to sell her curing items after all. "After doing the maths, I won't need to sell ALL my worldly goods!" she says, smiling.
Vauhwyt sells the following to Samule:
masterwork large ranseur - 320 a Dirt-City-grey-coloured three man tent - 50 1 scroll of Reduce Person - 25 1 scroll of Silent Image - 25 3 scrolls ray enfeeb - 75 1 scroll of Rope Trick - 150 2 scrolls of Shield - 50 disguise kit 2 of 10 used - 80 a bottle of perfume - 25 TOTAL - 800
Added to the 140 gp she had on hand and the 4,386 that was in her share of the loot, that comes to 6,126 gold.
Of that, she then uses her money like this:
WLA dues - 5000 recent charity around Dirt City - 100 kick into the group kitty - 100 Masterwork large quadruped padded armor - 170 Masterwork large Armor Spikes on armor - 400 Large buckler - 30 Masterwork large spiked gauntlet - 310 TOTAL - 6110
That gives her exactly 16 gold pieces to jangle in her pocket.
==========
Vauhwyt is happy to join her friends to visit Samule and hear his friend's proposal. She just wants to make sure that the meeting is belowground, in a public spot, or at least not in some silent cell out of earshot of everything.
Berlon Saturday April 15th, 2006 11:59:40 PM
"BUT!" Berlon says appearing suddenly, sidling up to Vauhwyt, "BUT! This wonderful little item will let me recast a spell and... oh, hello," he says, visiting the other members of the group.
"Uh, where was I? Oh, right. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that's already flat broke. I think it might be a good idea for us to go visit Neezer, and I think it might be a really good idea if as many of us as possible went together."
"And please, for all that is good and holy in the world, PLEASE tell me someone did not use the phrase 'The Black Bird Gang'. Please."
(OOC: Since Berlon had three days of study, can that count towards the Ointment he is crafting? If so, can we consider it done, assuming my math is right, or will you let me know when it's done.) SteveK: Yes. Yes. And your math is correct :)
Rose Sunday April 16th, 2006 6:01:53 AM
Rose spends time with the others at the WLA and decides to encourage Olyn and Theo "Come on and join, look at all the stuff you can learn." with that Rose shows off her skill at using a bastard sword, and will show off her pretty sword to anyone who wants to see it. However she does decide to wait become a journyman and decides to remain at the lower level.
"Olyn, will you cast continual flame on my ribbons?"
1414g 8s 5c -100g party fund -200f help orphans (rose will donate 50g each to the temples of wardd and domi, and 100g to the temple of flower to take care of orphan children) 50g upkeep ? creating scrolls (figuring it out now)
ooc: how many scrolls/day can we make (example: can we make 4 level 1 scrolls of the same spell in one day) how many days do we have to make scrolls.
Olyn Sunday April 16th, 2006 10:20:15 AM
Sure Rose. chants out the magic words-OWAH TAFUL WEARE *casted Continual Flame for Rose*
Looking at the price to join sign, Olyn snorts to himself then says: 2k minimum to join, another 5k at my level. 7k gold. I got better things to do with that money.
Waits outside for Theo and Rose.
Cayzle OOC Sunday April 16th, 2006 10:37:40 AM
Tim, you make me laugh!
"snorts"!
Oh, and I like your version of the spell better than the one I heard lo these two decades past: OWA TAFOO LIAM!
Theodore and Macaw Sunday April 16th, 2006 9:19:11 PM
"Yeah, I'm saving money for scrolls and such," Theodore says. "I also might need some money to join the Star Mages' Guild."
Theodore puts in his vote to visit Neezer. "The least we can do is see what he's offering."
Life in Dirt City [SteveK] Monday April 17th, 2006 5:03:44 AM
Money sorted, money spent. The friends make thier preparations for further adventures through training, practicing, buying things, and thinking about joining the WLA. Olyn and Theodore both decline joining the WLA at this point. Rose and Vauhwyt can get thier additional skill levels for training at the WLA this level.
Olyn casts Continual Flame on some of Rose's hairribbons. They will glow like a torch during festival or underground. :) .........
It has been five days since you have come back from the Farmhouse. Living in different places every night is slightly wearing, but each of the friends is getting used to it. There has been no resurge of violence in the City Below, and the overt guards have slowly melted away. Any serious looking around can still see goodfellas of each of the Houses keeping a watch on the tunnels.
This morning, (the fifth morning) it is time to talk to a couple of prospective buyers of your unique services.
Berlon and Theodore want to visit Neezer to hear his adventure contract. Vauhwyt and Vorelle want to find more about Samule's client. Dietrich, Olyn, and Rose don't have strong feelings one way or the other. And yet it is soon realized by all that talking to one doesn't mean that you can't talk to the other, too. How about you get the deal on them both, and then decide what to do?
(OOC: Reminder about Character Sheets!)
Dietrich Monday April 17th, 2006 8:23:51 AM
Dietrich goes to the catacombs too and uses his time to get some deserved relaxation. You never know the day of tomorrow... Massages, hot baths, juicy meals, creamy beer and hotblooded dancing girls, that makes the soldier feel good.
About the new assignment, Dietrich hasn´t changed his mind and is still supportive of having a talk with possible costumers and allies.
OOC: Will send the updated charactersheet as soon as the catacombs transaction is done.
Theodore and Macaw Monday April 17th, 2006 8:18:22 PM
"Let's see, now," Theodore says as he deposits money into his haversack. "100 from me, 100 from Dietrich, and 100 from Olyn. Anyone else care to contribute to the group fund?"
Theodore doesn't mind whether they go to Samule or Neezer. "I'm pretty sure we'll end up in the Prince's castle either way."
Vauhwyt Monday April 17th, 2006 9:45:51 PM
Vauhwyt is more than willing to hear both offers.
She is also concerned about Berlon's village, and asks him what he thinks. "Should we pay your kin a visit beforre we take on another quest?" she asks him.
She herself has no business with the Catacombs, but knows that others do.
Vorelle Monday April 17th, 2006 11:32:16 PM
Vorelle counts out 100 gold and gives it to Theo for the party fund.
"I-I'm w-willing to l-listen to N-N-Neezer, too," she tells her friends.
[OOC: character sheet is ready except for the new Catacombs stuff, but the Catacombs transaction is taking a while.]
Berlon Monday April 17th, 2006 11:33:06 PM
"Well, we can always stop by my village on our travels, but if nothing is going on we can always stop by. As far as the party fund goes, I am just about flat broke. I don't think we need to worry about buying healing items, I am sure between me and Olyn we have plenty of healing, not to mention all the goodies we have stashed. Like the Ointment I just made, a Gnomish specialty. It removes poison! It cures disease! It cures damage! It also goes great on salad!"
"But right now I am going to visit the Merchants. If anyone wants to come I would appreciate the support."
Olyn Tuesday April 18th, 2006 1:05:57 AM
Fill me in. What are we doing? When are we all suppose to be in the same place? And what's the plan?
The Future is Foggy [SteveK] Tuesday April 18th, 2006 5:51:06 AM
(ooc: With the five days you have had in the City since the last adventure, consider all items paid for and recieved, all training conducted, and three days worth of item creation complete. Purchases from the Catacombs are of course usable pending the DMs approval.)
Vauhwyt and Vorelle also contribute 100gp to the party fund. Berlon is flat broke, and the jury is out for Olyn and Rose.
The friends are gathered together this morning and discussing that it would be in thier interest, the city's interest, and their pocketbook's interest to take another job. Most agree that Neezer is the one to go to, so off the group goes; Berlon leading the way to the Merchants, with Vauhwyt the liontaur, Rose the halfling, Olyn the half-elf, with the three humans Vorelle, Dietrich, and Theodore completing the ensemble. Moving to the City Above, the group is careful, especially since this looks like an overcast day.
Once at Neezer's storefront, however, you encounter a mousey clerk futilely sweeping the clinging dirt. "Oh! Ah, pardons good gentles, but I fear Master Neezer is not in residence at the moment. He left earlier this morning for on business and didn't confide in me of its nature." The thinnish man seems very intimidated by Rose let alone of anyone larger. "Uh, I, erm, Master Neezer left a message to give to a Master Berlon & Co. I presume that you are they?" On confirming thier identities, the clerk continues. "Master Neezer told me to ask you to luncheon tomorrow. That is what he said." And you can get no other useful information out of the man.
Stymied at Neezer's, the group might as well check out Samule's offer, and so they all move towards Samule's shop near the Backstab Quarter. The weather has turned, and a dense fog has rolled in from the sea, covering everything in a grayish blanket of anonymity. Soon the fog is too dense to see the next block. And then to see the next building.
The mists continue to wind around you until you can't even see the ground beneath your feet.
Rose Tuesday April 18th, 2006 6:28:54 AM
rose spent two of her 5 days visiting temples where she donated a total of 200g to take care of orphans left by all the recent troubles, going to the wla and practicing, and going with the others to gather info. The other 3 days she spent locked up in her aunts lab (apartment was to busy & noisy) and making a few wands.
Rose's money 1414g 8s 5c -100g group fund -200g charity (rose will donate 50g each to the temples of wardd and domi, and 100g to the temple of flower to take care of orphan children) -50g upkeep per rules in constabulary castle (everyone should spend this) 175g & 15xp wand prestidigitation -350g & 0xp wand rose's temp control -350g & 30xp wand shield total spent 1125g & 45xp total remaining 289g 8s 5c
ooc: theo dont forget to add the 100g from rose to the party fund & I think Vauhwyt gave also.
Dietrich d20+4=9 d20+4=11 d20+7=27 Tuesday April 18th, 2006 8:23:00 AM
Dietrich is eager to get some action again. All the beer and fatty food and lying around like a lazy lizard was fine and good, but his muscles need some work to do.
He accompanies the party and has to contain a smirk at the strange clerk. The warrior agrees with lunch with Neezer.
Than the group continues moving and this &¨%&$ mist envolves them. Dietrich immediately takes his mighty, godgiven blade at hands and makes a short prayer to Domi, swearing afterwards:
"*¨¨%% unnatural mist! As if that %$@#%$# dust were´n´t already enough! Friends, keep ready, I don´t like this. Maybe it´s ¨#$%$$ magic?"
spot 9, listen 11 Local knowledge 27 (what a waste...) to know in which part of the city they´re just now, what kind of people hang around here.
Olyn Tuesday April 18th, 2006 1:43:31 PM
*Steve, I already gave Theo 100gp, so my jury is back already* {SteveK: I didn't remember :) silly DM!}
When the fog is so thick in a matter of seconds that people can barely see the ground beneath their feet, Olyn pulls his shield off his back and takes his morningstar off its holder. Senses on full alert.
Vorelle d20+11=23 Tuesday April 18th, 2006 8:24:36 PM
Vorelle tends to agree that there's something unnatural about the fog. Unable to see very well, she begins relying more on her ears.
[Listen 23]
Theodore and Macaw d20+2=5 d20+2=8 d20+2=13 d20+2=10 Tuesday April 18th, 2006 9:35:11 PM
Theodore quickly casts mage armor. "Where's the nearest entrance to the Under Tunnels? That's our safe haven!"
Theodore tries to recall where the closest entrance is. He also sends Macaw up to try and get above the fog to see what's going on.
Vauhwyt and Mookie Tuesday April 18th, 2006 9:51:36 PM
Vauhwyt does not like this mist one bit. "Everyone, grab this rope and tie it around yourself! We must not get lost!" She takes out her silk rope and hands it around.
Mookie caws, "Boss, don't forget me! In this fog it is too easy to be mist!"
"Hush up, Mookie," says Vauhwyt with a smile. She puts him in a pocket.
Rose d20+12=29 Tuesday April 18th, 2006 10:22:46 PM
Rose calls piper to her and quickly grabs hold of the nearest big person, if there's a choice she'll grab hold of Vauhwyt's rope. She'll also try to figure out if the fog is or isnt natural.
spellcraft: 29
hmm, I forgot to do rose's daily spells. doesnt everyone like rose's new spellcraft bonus :) 6 ranks, 4 int, 2 magical apptitude = +12 check for a level 3rogue/3wiz.
Berlon Tuesday April 18th, 2006 11:28:58 PM
The gnome doesn't like the mist sweeping in, not one bit. He will cast Detect Magic to see if he can figure out if it is magical in nature...
