Gargul's Encampment

Round 5 (final)

Map update: view Round 5.

Kendry fires off his first arrow, but the fey-orc ducks and it whistles between his horns and off into the mist. Adjusting his aim, Kendry's second shot thuds into the fey-orc's forehead with a sickening slock sound. The fey-orc sways slightly on his feet and moves to wipe the sudden gush of dark blood from his eyes.

Peerimus and Shaylin don't waste any time and pounce on the fey-orc while he is off-guard. Together, they unleash a devastating series of attacks. Whirling his staff with uncanny precision, Peerimus pummels the fey-orc's chest - connecting his last blow with the fey-orc's chin. Staggering back a step, it is clear the fey-orc's jaw is now hanging at an odd angle. Unfazed by the hellish grin, Shaylin slashes at the fey-orc's arm, tearing muscle and forcing the fey-orc to drop his double-axe.

At that moment, Airin fires a bolt from her hiding place. It streaks along the back of the fey-orc's neck, spraying his dark blood across the surrounding foliage. Her second shot is off-target and lodges in a nearby tree.

Realising he is effectively dead, the fey-orc drops to his knees and roars. His voice carrying far above the pitter-patter of the rain and the sounds of the forest.

"GRALGHURGHHH!"

Acting quickly, Bralin silences him a second later.

Meanwhile, Podo closes the distance between himself and the climbing kobold (k2), striking it clean across its chest. The kobold squeals and quickly launches itself higher into the tree. Podo's second attack is not quick enough and his blow slams painfully into the tree itself (Dam:2hp). Moments later, Peerimus and Shaylin arrive at Podo's side.

From across the battle, Tishe raises her wand and sends five magic missiles flying into the kobold. Unable to withstand the blasts, it falls limply from the tree - quite dead.

Initial thoughts...

Kendry checks the area thoroughly, but does not notice anything. He moves towards Airin as she slips back into the shadows.

Erwen wheels high above, but does not notice anything other than grey clouds as far as the eye can see.

Bralin steps onto the road.

Gilan and Ciaran check the area the last fey-orc (o5) emerged from.

Nezamil stands over the unconscious fey-goblin (g2) - it is clear it has meagre minutes remaining to live.

Tishe urges the group to keep moving and, with Snout in tow, heads after Gilan and Ciaran.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --

Reality sets in...

The battle is over, but two unspoken questions hang in the air: 'How far did the fey-orc's cry travel?' and 'Was he heard?'.

As you collect your thoughts amongst the corpses, you notice it is still raining.

{ OOC: Over to you folks. It's been a pleasure, but I think it would be unfair of me to continue to subject you to this stop/start style of play. I am about to send DM Kelly an e-mail requesting he take over as of Monday (I will, of course, fill in until he is available). I'd like to apologise and thank you at the same time. Perhaps when circumstances change I'll have another opportunity to ADM for you. Cheers, Adam. }

{ OOC: Update: I have e-mailed DM Kelly, and posted on the DM Board. }

{ OOC: Update: DM Kelly's got you covered. Thanks again. }

Sunday April 2nd, 2006 1:26:58 AM

As the ruckus of conflict subsides, Kendry asks, "Do any of our opponents still breathe? If so, they may be able to provide us with information hard to obtain otherwise." He is pleased to see that all of his companions are up and look reasonably healthy.

He quickly examines several of the fallen, looking for signs of life - and using his healing skill to halt their soul's joining to WoldsBlood (heal check 27 (nat 20), using healer's kit). If Nezamil hollers out that there's one still breathing, that is the one he focuses upon. "Someone want to check for magic and such? Maybe there are written orders, or more maps. Since some are spellcasters, maybe spells, scrolls, or the like."

Should any respond to his ministrations (two more Heal checks: 22 and 8 (last nat 1! -probably even MORE dead now)), he suggests someone tie them up - but not so as to further wound them. As he performs his work, without looking up, he says, "Yes, Peerimus, you are right. I do talk a lot."

Kendry takes special care by cutting material from one of his small sacks, wrapping it around the hands of the semi-revived fellow, then, with needle and fishing line, he sews the cloth around and between the fingers, so as to allow no gesticulation of the digits for spell-casting purposes. He then applies cold iron manacles to the wrists, placed behind the back of the prisoner. Silk rope hobbles him (or her). Another small sack he stuffs into the creature's mouth, and secures it there with a segment of silk rope tied securely around his head.

"Anyone want to bring him to consciousness?" he asks.

Airin (by Kim)  d20+16=17 d20+16=29 d20+8=27
Sunday April 2nd, 2006 1:52:22 AM

Airin takes a moment to look skyward toward her eagle friend, then checks over the last orc to fall, quickly picking through what he wore and carried to see if he possessed any valuables that might be of use to the party [Search: 27]. "You suppose his voice carried very far through this rain?" she inquires of no one in particular. Once the fallen orc's possessions have been picked through, she moves on to the next orc, and so forth, with goblins and flying kobolds.

Erwen seems to have been distracted by the bellowing of the dying orc below, and does not immediately notice anything elsewhere (spot nat 1). After a few moments, however, he resumes his vigil (spot 29).

[Extra addition by Inge]

Once the search is finished and before moving out once again, Airin retreives her crossbow where she left it and wipes the dark orc blood from her sword.

Tishe' and Snout
Sunday April 2nd, 2006 11:24:19 PM

Rain continuing down washes the blood from corpse, road, and clothing. "That roar was just as good as a herd of rapke! The Monster Sanctuary is shuttlecocked for sure. We need to strike hard and fast, or else they'll all be here and we'll never get there. See?"

Not having spells to help hide them, Tishe' is impatient to move as fast as possible.

Snout grins into the warm rain.

Looking around to see that everyone is all right, Podo rushes to the side of Kendry, his cousin. "Are you all right cousin?" asks Podo to Kendry.
"What do you think provoked that response? Do you think we are close to our destination? Maybe that was the welcoming party, eh?" says Podo aloud.

Podo looks around through the inclimate weather for signs of shelter or a home of some sort. (spot = 24)

Thr druid moves to stand next to Bralin and gazes out into the rain. "It will be a long fought road." Hearing Tishe, he turns and looks back at the group that stands near her with Kendry checking on the fallen foes. Speed was not this groups strength.

Rain runs off the mans nose as a large smile comes over his face at Kendry's remark, but it fades as he again turns back to examine the road. "A very hard fought." [spot 17]

Gilan does not slip back into his human form this time around. He holds the form of a girallon for now as he does not feel like taking his human form.

He looks around and tries to see what he can see, though his ears are working as well.

Ciaran stays near his brother's side, not particularly caring what form he is in. The wolf is not happy with the rain and would rather be inside of a warm cave.

DM Kelly
Monday April 3rd, 2006 6:38:20 PM

OOC: Thanks for Adam for covering the last battle, nice job.

Kendry looks about and finds only one monster still breathes. A fey-goblin lies beneath Nezamil, his breath comes in ever weakening sputters. His throat has been crushed, and the swelling is quickly closing his trachea. Kendry is able to stop the flow of blood from a deep cut in his side, but is unable to help his breathing with his healer's kit.

The fey-goblin is quickly fading. Rain falls gently, and mist covers the ground making it difficult to see even 20 feet. The druids though are not lost, and can tell that Gargul's encampment is about 30 minutes away to the Southeast, along the path.

Listening, Gilan notices the almost complete silence in the forest. Only the sound of light rain and the gasping of the fey-goblin can be heard. No other sounds.

Tishe suggests that the group strikes hard and fast, while Kendry wants to sew cloth around the fey-goblins fingers and hands to prevent movement. The sewing will take time, but will be useless unless the fey-goblin is magically healed soon.

Bralin stands and waits, water dripping from his hood and down his beard.

Airin cleans her crossbow, and has Erwen search from above. The mist obscures her view, and she is unable to spot any more of the enemy.

Podo looks about, curious about the group of monsters they fought. He is able to find a large tree that would shelter a few haflings, but nothing that will shelter the entire group.

Kendry  d8+5=11
Monday April 3rd, 2006 8:05:49 PM

Kendry cures the fae goblin's wounds (CLW: 11 hp) enough to keep him alive. The gag is already in his mouth, so he's not likely to get much volume out should he decide to scream.

"Yeah, cuz, doin' fine. You? Everyone else?" he answers Podo, but still sticking with the goblin.

With hands in the high-quality manacles, Kendry goes ahead and stitches the fabric together between his fingers. In the goblin tongue, Kendry whispers, 'You try set trap for us, you did. Trap fail. You fail. Why try kill us? We go visit Gargul. Why try kill us? Oh, I let you answer soon. But, you make much much noise, I bop you on head. I bop you so hard, you not think right for many days. So, I let you answer question. I not let you make noisy noise.

'You get what I say? You understand? If you understand, then move head up and down.

'So if you yell, then I bop head.'
He readies his sap made from cold iron.

Kendry then decides a blindfold should be added, before he moves out in front of the goblin. He covers his eyes. Then he loosens the slipknot in the silken rope around his mouth. Ready to stuff the small wadded bag back in if the goblin looks to raise a ruckus, or speak the words of a spell, but otherwise he takes it out so the goblin can speak, and asks again, 'Why you try kill us?'

If the goblin is at all cooperative, Kendry will ask if Gargul treats him well. The halfling also explains that he has tied up the goblin so he does not try to kill him or his friends again. If goblin plays nice, then he will treat him nicer. If cooperative, he asks whether he would like to help Gargul do even better than he is doing. [Kendry figures any improvement in Gargul's behavior would be better than his current comportment.] 'I know how to help Gargul do better. Need to see round stone, then I help Gargul do better. You take me to round stone, to Gargul's stone, and we help him do better. You help us?'

Airin and Erwen
Tuesday April 4th, 2006 10:51:02 AM

"We should not waste any more time", Airin says as she peers through the woods. "That cry may have been heard, and we don't know if any monster got away. I do cherish the gathering of intelligence before we move, but at the moment we may still benefit from the element of surprise."

"Perhaps now the time has come to send a scout ahead? The camp is only 30 minutes away... My offer still stands."

A short and cautious whistle brings Erwen back and Airin waits for her friends to descide.

Peermius and Shaylin
Tuesday April 4th, 2006 5:36:02 PM

Peerimus looks back to Kendry, "I thought you were joking. Surely you do not think to let the vile abomination live. Or rather think I will let it live?" Peerimus leaves Bralin at the point and moves to where Kendry has the goblin. Shaylin wheels on her back legs and slides swiftly along with the human.

Peerimus pulls slightly short, the enchanted staff merely being used more as a walking stick. "Kendry, Well near the entire forest knows we are coming. We should make haste to arrive before proper defences can be placed." The druids face skrunches and spits hard to the ground, "Kill that thing and let's go." With that he whirls on his foot and moves back towards the solenm dwarf Bralin.

Gilan [wildshape: girallon] and Ciaran
Tuesday April 4th, 2006 8:37:03 PM

Gilan lumbers forward and comes to stand near Kendry, his face leering down at the monster before him. He lets the thing give Kendry all the answers that he wants, but it will not stop him from doing what must be done.

After the answers are given and if Kendry cannot do the job...he leans in close, lips pulling back to expose his teeth in a smile. His voice comes out as a grunt to Kendry if the abomination is not dealt with by him. "Go...do not watch." Four arms will decend to grab the wretched creature and lift him up into the air. Two hands latch onto the things head as the other two hold the creature's body...a swift jerk is all that is need to rip the things head off it's shoulders. He will then toss the body into the brush along with the head. "No live...abomination." He stomps off after the rest of the group...hoping that most have left and not stayed to watch.

Ciaran just stands and watches the whole event with uncaring eyes. Even he can feel the perversion of this creature. When his brother is ready to leave...so is he.

DM Kelly
Tuesday April 4th, 2006 8:52:27 PM

Airin calls down Erwen, and impatiently waits to move on.

Kendry secures the fey-goblin with manacles and carefully stiches cloth around his hand to keep him from casting spells. Blindfold and gag in place, Kendry then cures the creature. Gurgling stops, though he still seems fairly beat up. He tries to move, then realizes that he is bound fast.

Kendry warns the creature about yelling out, and then removes the gag. Upon questioning as to why they tried to kill, the fey-goblin responds:

[spit]"Foul people, I know what you think. I know you hate us. Gargul gave me knowledge. I know now. Gargul cares, you hate."

The fey-goblin then struggles as he hears Peerimus come up and mention killing him.

"You hate us, you kill us! Help!"

Upon that note, Gilan steps forward and quickly separates the creatures head from his body.

Everyone else looks on in astonishment.

Dealing with the fey-goblin has taken about 5 minutes. The forest is deadly quiet, except for the patter of rain.

Bralin [post by SteveK]
Tuesday April 4th, 2006 11:50:51 PM

In the quiet, Bralin snorts through his nose. "That's done it." he growls fatalistically. He keeps his axe at port arms and waits for the group to move out.

Tishe' and Snout
Tuesday April 4th, 2006 11:56:27 PM

"Peerimus", the brown haired girl calls to attract the druid's attention. "I think its time for Airen to scout ahead. Cast your spell so you can speak with her."

Tishe' ignores the death scene of the goblin. He was warned and shouted and killed. Panthenon would call that justice.

She casts Darkvision and shares with Snout to help in the rainy day, and readies her wand.

Kendry
Wednesday April 5th, 2006 12:05:54 AM

"How far do you suppose sound carries in a dense forest on a rainy and stormy day? The trees and plants absorb the sound. Maybe a few hundred yards - and the sounds of battle already have passed.

"Yes, I think to let him live. If he helps us," Kendry answers Peerimus. "One of my good friends is a goblin." His estimation of the druid diminishes. As, he supposes, does the druid's estimation of the bard.

Then Gilan in the form of a girallon comes and instructs him to leave. "No. You will not..." But his opposition is ignored as the huge fellow lifts the goblin, and separates the head from the body. "Barbaric druids!" he exclaims as blood sprays himself and the foliage.

He takes the key to the manacles and quickly removes them from the arms of the corpse, then makes haste to catch up to the group. Kendry hates what Gargul is doing, but does not hate the individuals, despite their corrupt origin. Sure, he'll fight them, and kill them if necessary. But is there no hope for any of them?

The goblin was right, at least about Peerimus and Gilan. They hate. 'They think me shortsighted for not rushing off. I think them shortsighted for not learning what we might. No one checked for magic among our opponents. No one searched for things to help us. Just move. Oh, I'll move, I will. What kind of people are these that we travel with?' Then, after a moment, another thought occurs to him. 'I told him if he yelled, I would bop his head. Well, he yelled, and Gilan lopped his head. Pretty close.' This odd thought causes him to give a dismissive snort, but helps calm down his agitated spirit somewhat.

"Airin, if you are to scout ahead, I do not want you to do it alone, or only with Erwen. What Peerimus said is right - any who are here who escaped the battle will remember your eagle."

Tishe' reminds Peerimus to cast a speak with animals spell. Though he may want to protect the one his soul loves, he realizes she is not helpless, and is capable of defending herself. "But, if you really feel you must, then, go in haste, but senses alert." Before Airin and Erwen take flight, he asks Tishe' whether she wants to cast her message spell at this time, or should he cast it himself. "Mine is good to 190 feet, for an hour and a half." If Tishe' decides to cast the spell, then he defers to her. If not, then he casts his own, to include all in the group.

With message and speak with animals, Peerimus can whisper a translation of what Airin, and Erwen, communicate to him.

"Podo - I hope we can do what we set out to do. Wish that Patterton made it here with us."

Airin senses the tension between the one she loves and the druids she was soo pleased to meet.

"Why don't you all do a quick search on the bodies while Erwen and I fly ahead of you?"

Airin takes three potions from her backpack. Two Mage Armors and one invisibility potion. Airin quaffs the Mage Armor, but waits to hand the other one to Erwen... Then she speaks to her friends

"I only have one invisibility potion on me. I guess I will need to do this on my own... Erwen must stay here..."

Not waiting for any replies Airin goes over to Kendry and kisses him full on the lips whispering: "See you soon my love - as I do hope I am more than just a friend as you said earlier". Then she opens the invisibility potion, places it on the ground and wild shapes into an exact copy of Erwen... the only difference is the black tip on her tail - a small residue of her completly black armor.

Airin looks up to her friends in Bird Shape and waits for Peerimus to Cast his Speak with Animals spell. Speaking to Peerimus in birds she says :"Thank you my friend - I will make haste... Erwen my dear companion, please stay here with my friends and fly above them to alert them from danger. You can not follow where I will go..."

Then she waits for the message spell to be cast. And last but not least, the small Airin-bird drinks the entire Invisibility potion...

"See you later!" is all Peerimus hears and then only the fluttering of feathers is heard.

Airin now flies as fast as she can straight towards the encampment of Gargul. Invisible and in bird shape. She flies just above the tree tops trying to spot as much as possible. Every now and then she whispers her report to Peerimus who will translate everything to the group.

An odd sort of look crosses the druids face as the goblin starts in fear at his statement. It understands Common? The stolen Fey soul or Gargul's doing? Some time to think alone will help As Peerimus moves away he hears the crack and tear and knows what Gilan just did though he did not see it.

"Blessed Mother welcome your child's return." He says in a quiet voice, his head slightly bowed.

Kendry's declaration runs off him like so much water from the sky. He considers turning back to the Halfling, but Tishe and Airin stop the thought, there were more pressing matters. Nodding he casts Speak with Animals. "Remember to not move too far ahead or you will break the Message spell."

Peerimus gives Shaylin a ruffle to the head and casts Greater Magic Fang on her as Airin flies into the hard rain. Kendry
Wednesday April 5th, 2006 12:30:54 PM

"Let's move!" Kendry says. Which, of course, is what everyone else has been saying for the past several minutes. But with Airin flying on ahead, the diminutive bard makes it his goal to stay as close to her as she can. Besides, with the limitation on the distance of the spell, if the party stands still, she'll be out of range in less than a minute. He moves his buns down the trail.

DM Kelly
Wednesday April 5th, 2006 6:03:24 PM

The sudden death of the helpless fey-kobold seems to have put several on edge, and Kendry cries out but it is too late. It is done, and Kendry quietly removes his manacles from the limp body.

Even Bralin seems surprised at the events of the moment, and he readies himself for the journey ahead.

Tishe shrugs off the death, and readies herself and Snout for the gathering darkness.

Podo is impressed at the rage and strength of the girallion, as head flies from body.

Airin tries and dispels the tension by focusing on the task at hand. Speaking to Erwen in eagle causes Erwen to take to the sky, circling above the group. Kissing Kendry, Airin then volunteers to scout ahead, and prepares to do so by drinking a potion and then turns into an eagle. She then reaches down and grasps a vial in her beak. Tilting back her head she disappears. You hear the sound of wings fading quickly off into the distance, towards Gargul's keep. She sounds fast, much faster than the group can travel.

It has been a difficult few minutes for the bard. First his prisoner became defiant, and then the druids turned on his plan. Most disconcerting however was the kiss from Airin as she prepared to fly into danger. Perhaps they would never see each other again.

Peerimus decides to move ahead as a scout, and soon he too is lost in the shadows and mist.

Soon, Airin's connection via the message spell is lost. She is far ahead of the group.

The sky darkens, and deep storm clouds lie between you and Gargul's keep.

Airin has been gone for 5 minutes.

Airin Highlight to display spoiler: {Soon you are far ahead of the group and about half way to your destination, and see that the weather worsens ahead. The clouds are dark, and the wind and rain increases in strength. It will be difficult to fly through, but you see you can skirt the edge of the storm and probably make it to Gargul's keep. You are too far to communicate with the group.}

Peerimus Highlight to display spoiler: {You do not see anything unusual, except for the stillness of the forest. Too still to be the result of the storm alone.}

"guys... euhm... heloooo... you hear me?"

"Damn I'm too far ahead. It's no use to turn back now... I need to find out what lies ahead. I just hope they will be careful"

Airin's been gone for longer than she expected. Her invisibility spell is allready wasted. Now everyone will be able to see her. Only the darkened sky and rain can keep her from being spotted.

"No way I will be able to fly through those stormclouds... I must go around them"

Then she tries to skirt the stormclouds but also begins to fly higher. Perhaps by flying a bit higher she will gain a better overview of the battleground and may not be seen after all.

DM Kelly - Supplemental post
Thursday April 6th, 2006 4:47:04 PM

OOC: The reason I had Airin move out of message spell range is that in her post she said:

"Airin now flies as fast as she can straight towards the encampment of Gargul."

That is much faster than the group can move, which is I believe 60' per round running (slowest members) while Airin can move 240' per round flying fast (my estimate).

I also fast forwarded as no use saying, "you see nothing" over and over. If you had actions in that time you wanted different, I will rewind time.

Bralin [post by SteveK]
Thursday April 6th, 2006 11:16:08 PM

Axe ready, Bralin leads the group down the path at a double-time (double move), continually getting closer to Gargul. The rain doesn't matter except to keep enemies from being seen.

Thursday April 6th, 2006 11:20:12 PM

Concentrating on keeping with the group, Tishe' absently pats Wart in his satchel and keeps a grip on her wand that was so effective in the last battle. "If fey souls strengthend kobolds and orcs like that, what would it have done to ogres, trolls, or giants?" she wonders aloud.

Snout doesn't mind the rain. Grinning, he keeps thinking of the terrific water from Maab's Palace.

Airin
Friday April 7th, 2006 9:06:59 AM

Mentally Airin attempts to reach Kendry telling him they should be cautious trying to catch up with her. After all, going at double speed decreases hide and move silently abilities enormously!!! And... what's the use if only the scout survives ?!?

DM Kelly - Storm round 1
Friday April 7th, 2006 11:47:14 AM

The group moves quickly along, and have covered by best estimates nearly half the distance to the keep. Swirling mists and light rain make it difficult to see, but the sky keeps getting darker. Peerimus and Shaylin do their best to scout ahead, but still they see nothing moving.

Suddenly, the dark clouds intensify. The boom of thunder and the flash of lightning mark this as a dangerous storm. A sudden flash of lighting close by followed by:

BOOM - CRASH

Luckily, nobody was hit by the lightning, but a tree near by smolders. The sound however was deafening.

Everybody (except Airin) make a fortitude save (DC23) or be deafened.

OOC: I think I did the DC correct, let me know if you have input into this.

Airin Highlight to display spoiler: {You see that the storm clouds become less intense, and you spot the entrance to a fortress that is built into a hillside. The front door is open, and you see that there are ogres, orc and kobolds massed in the woods near the entrance. One of them looks up and yells a warning. Eyes turn towards you. Looking back, you see that the storm cloud along the road is too intense to fly through. The path you took around the storm is still clear.}

Out in front of the group Peerimus keeps ahead of the naturally slower Dwarves and halflings. [Speed 40]

Lightning rips into a nearby tree and Peerimus freezes in place and Shaylin does likewise. The druid streches his jaw and feels his eardrums pop and adjust to the dying thunder echo in his head. He had been in worse storms, but the lightning strikes weere unusual in the deep southern jungles. Looking to Shaylin his suspision of the leopards ability to deal with the volume is confirmed.

Gilan still in girallon form looks to the smoking tree and shakes his large head. This is strange indeed and he wonders if something is up. His head raises to the sky and he seriously looks over the clouds that are above them. His mind runs through all the things that he knows about nature to see if anything seems unnatural with this storm.

Ciaran is likewise uneffected by the blast and looks to his brother with one of those looks. The wolf is considering the idea of a place to hold up as he does not like this storm or what could happen.

Kendry sees the flash of lightning and immediately presses his hands against his ears against the sound that is bound to -- oof! - his body felt the sound, but his ears were protected [Fort: 25, nat 20].

"I'm still here - Kendry here," the bard answers Peerimus. "I think she'll be all right. It just must be a ways to go. I hope!"

He continues to hurry forward, despite the storm. He stays in the middle of the trail - figuring, hoping, that the trees will draw the lightning. If he senses a developing crackling in the air, he will throw himself to the ground, and cover his ears, face down in the mud.

As they move forward, he decides to take some cloth and plug one ear. If one goes bad, should lightning strike so close again, perhaps the other will be preserved.

If any members of the group are deafened, Kendry will give them a drink of the water from Maab's place.

The dwarf keeps moving forward, with the crash still sounding in his brain.

CUTSCENE

The small bird flies towards danger skirting the outside of a thunderstorm trying to see what's going on at Gargul's encampment.

"Oh dear mother nature... soo many!... there are soo many of them..."

Suddenly she realises she's been looked upon!

"Oh no!!!"

The stormclouds behind her nearly close the corridor she went through, but... she can not go back for it would betray where her friends are coming from...

"They were right..."

CUTSCENE END

ERWEN
Erwen flies with the rest of the group, but as the weather becomes worse and worse she no longer can fly above them. Instead she returns and lands on Kendry's shoulder. The storm rages, and the boom of thunder echoes through the trees. Half of the group seem unable to hear (Shaylin, Tishe, Bralin, Podo and Snout) and are deafened. Kendry offers a drink from the First Water he collected at Maab's to Podo, who takes a sip. Immediately, Podo's ears clear, and he is able to hear as before. Kendry decides to move to the others, but the storm is gathering strength and the violence continues before he can get to everyone.

Gilan looks to the sky, wondering about this storm that gathers. Watching the movement of the clouds and the pattern of the storm, he frowns. This storm is not natural. His observation becomes obvious to all very soon.

BOOM - CRASH

Again lightning strikes nearby, and again a deafening boom. (everyone not already deafened make a fortitude save DC 23).

Then the rain comes. Now it is apparent to everyone that this storm is not natural. The rain burns, as acid. Everyone feels the burn as the rain comes down. (no save)

'Nice to hear someone still back there' Peerimus whispers back to Kendry. 'Though it seems like we lost most of the group in the Message with that blast. I am still about 60' in front of the rest of you and just off to the right of the path. There is nothing out here, they must all be ahead of us.'

The rain starts to irritate Peerimus's skin and before the second flash and concussive clap even occurs, he knows he and the others are in trouble. This is far beyond any normal storm or a simple controlling of the weather spell. The cacophonous boom rattles the wood and the overpressure blows his eardrums, then the world goes quiet. Peerimus pinches his nose slightly and shuts his eyes. Shaylin at his side shifts uncomfortably in the un-natural rain. He is now out of sight and communication with the others, but the storm also does hold good news. There is no trap lying within the immediate area. Time to leave the storms area, hopefully the others will act likewise.

Keeping Shylin next to him and still utilizing the potions benefits, the pair move at a swifter pace. [Move 80']

"H'lo, Erwen," Kendry greets his love's feathered friend.

"Yes, Peerimus. We're getting everyone fixed up, here. Let's keep moving forward - and let me if know if..." Just then, while focusing on communicating, his concentration on anticipating the boom is not quite good enough, and the bow he carries prevents him from fully covering his left ear [Fort 15 (+2 circumstance from trying to cover ear immediately upon flash)]. His plugged right ear is almost covered, but the hand does not fully cover it with enough pressure to obviate the damage [Fort 21, with circumstance bonus from earplug and hand coverage]. Kendry is deaf.

He stows his bow and arrow, takes out a wool blanket from his bag, and says (whether Erwen can hear it or not), "This is to keep the burning rain off, friend." He tosses the blanket over his head and to cover the eagle, wrapping it to secure the eagle to himself, and so that the front edge of the blanket rests just past his beak [Handle animal: 26 (nat 20)]. He wants Erwen to be able to see ahead, but, judging by how the harsh precipitation is damaging his feathers, not to be further harmed. The blanket also hoods his face, and covers his gear.

He decides to conserve the water for now. Who knows how many more lightning strikes there may be over the next few minutes? He hurries ahead toward the goal and, by his actions and hand signals, urges others to do so as well.

They are being weakened and separated!, thinks Tishe'. Already two of their number that stood off the hordes are not with the group, and thier ability to communicate has been reduced.

Tishe' tries to speak if any of the others can still hear. "The rain won't be on the monstrous-fey! We have to get closer to Gargul's lair quickly, or we will never get there at all!"

Putting a hand on Nezamil and Kendry, she urges them forward at a faster pace to get out of the rain.

Wednesday April 12th, 2006 9:13:07 AM

Because he has been trying to anticipate lightning strikes by sensing the rapid change in local atmosphere immediately prior to a strike, Kendry manages to fling the blanket-wrapped Erwen to safety and himself leap to one side and avoid a portion of the energy of the electrical discharge, yet still there is enough force to rattle his teeth and momentarily spasm his muscles [Reflex save: 23]. He falls to one side, mud again coating his already blood-spattered clothing.

He pushes himself up, looks around to see how his companions fare, and goes to retrieve Erwen. How can they survive this unanswered onslaught of nature? Why does not the lightning strike the nearby taller trees, rather than the relatively diminutive creatures who walk the path? Is it Gargul himself who uses the elements to fight against them?

He shakes his head to try to clear it of the lightning-induced cobwebs, takes a quick inventory to ensure he has lost no equipment, retrieves the blanketed and bedraggled Erwen, and then slogs on. They all are going to die, and there's no help for it.

He casts cure light wounds on Erwen (healing 13 hp, bringing the eagle to full health for now) [why are you rolling d6, rather than d4, for the eagle, seeing as he has some cover, and is smaller than the rest of us? -just wondering.]

He uses one of the remaining charges from his wand of cure moderate wounds on himself, curing 15 hp damage. After that, he resumes his run, but stays closer to the tree line now along the edge of the trail.

Not being successful with getting thru to the Domi of his time, Podo takes off running at full speed (normal rate = 70') in the direction of the G. Compound.

"I hope I can make it to safety before the acid rain burns me into a puddle o' Podo!" muses Podo to himself.

With no trace of her friends, a group of Flying Kobols on her tail, Airin begins to get worried.

She turns around, facing her opponents. Looking at the entrance, the surrounding, hiding places while she dodges the Flying Kobolds.

The entrance is it on some mountain? A castle? Windows? If it's on a mountain are there monsters to be seen on the mountain. If it's a castle, are there monsters to be seen somewhere on it?

Airin examines the possibility to fly towards the entrance, shape back to human, and hide somewhere... She's not doing it right away though. Decent scouting is needed. She will gather all intell possible about the surroundings and the entrance.

ERWEN
Erwen is thankful to Kendry as he heals her, but he needs to think about his companions as well.

She looks at Kendry and now being fully healed she flies like the wind to get out of this storm. To find Airin...

Double, triple, quadruple speed i don't care... just get out of this storm!

The rain continues and the Flash above the druids head does not provide enouh warning and the stroke strikes hard. Peerimus has been on the recienving end of such blasts before as well as the delivery end. As the numbness leaves his feet he mentally notes delivery is always better. Stealth no longer matters, the druid decides, exiting the storm alive does. Stopping briefly Peerimus shifts to a faster form. In moments Shaylin is leaping into his arms and the megaraptor pounds further towards the perimeter and the deadly trap that awaits.

Tishe attempts to dispel the storm, but it too powerful for her. Hurrying, she catches up with the slower moving halflings and dwarf. Looking about, it is clear that Nezamil has been lost in the storm. She encourages Snout, who seems to be having difficulty moving as fast as the others over land.

Kendry heals Erwen, who with a look of kindness in her eyes shreeches a farwell and flies off through the storm. Turning the wand on himself, he heals some of his damage and trudges on. The actions have caused him to slow down, and he tries to catch back up with the group.

Podo moves as fast as his little legs can carry him, the lightning and rain has taken a large toll though.

Peerimus changes to the form of a megaraptor, a terrible creature on most any other day. Now though, only the storm seems terrible. Shaylin knows his friend no matter the form, and leaps into his arms. Peerimus moves quickly, starting to outdistance the group.

Gilan and Ciaran move along, trying to make it through the storm. The wolf is most at home in the forest, and seems intent on finding escape from the storm.

Bralin tucks his head, and plows forward through the storm. Clutching a vial in his hand, he is prepared should damage to his stout body become too great.

The storm intensifies and now the rain is joined by hail. Hailstones the size of walnuts come down with enormous force, striking everyone hard. Lightning again flashes, and again each person is struck by a bolt. (Ciaran save DC 23 or deafened)

The onslaught is too much for Tishe who collapses onto the ground. Snout stops, and crawls over the top of her, trying to stop the hail from doing more damage to his friend.

Kendry and Podo are also beaten down by the hail, their still bodies lying in a puddle. Friends in death as in life.

Bralin and Gilan see them fall, but Peerimus is ahead of the group. Erwen is gone, hopefully not fallen.

OOC: Others may have fallen, you need to roll your reflex save for the lightning. I need the HP totals posted for Gilan and Ciaran.

In this place of gods who do not care, and of people who one day shall themselves attain divinity, Kendry approaches despair. "Is there no one who cares? No one who hears?" he asks aloud, though he cannot hear even the sound of his own voice in this ungodly fury. The icy stones pummel his body, and though he manages with a twisting leap at the last moment to avoid the full force of the lightning bolt, again (Reflex save 16, hero point for reroll, saved with 29), "God, or whoever thou art, who art above all else, save us!" he cries in hope, in desperation. As his weakened body sinks to the ground, in the last moments as his consciousness begins to fade, he summons an effort - though it be in vain, to cast on himself cure moderate wounds, regaining 24 hp. If Podo lies near him, he grabs him up, and dashes to find some shelter in the shadow of a tree. If found, and if there is any breath whatsoever left in his friend, he uses his wand to help him (cure mod wounds from wand: +17 hp to Podo - probably too little, too late). If the tree offers no shelter, then Kendry uses his own body to protect that of his friend. And prays to this unknown god for Airin's welfare, too. "And the rest. Even the druids. Even Peerimus..."

Tishe, Bralin and Podo are all overwhelmed by the storm, and drop to the hail covered ground. Kendry tries to preserve life, but finds that he has no more desire to run. He covers Podo, preventing the hail from doing any more damage to his friend. Snout does the same, preserving what is left of his master.

Peerimus picks up speed, cutting to the right where the distance to the edge of the storm is probably shorter. He makes tremendous strides, yet as he sees the sky clear just a few strides in front of him, something happens.

The storm becomes more intense! Violent rain and wind gusts reduce visibility, obscuring all sight beyond 5 feet. Worse, it makes it impossible to move with any speed.

OOC: Speed is reduced by three-quarters.

Yet the lightning and hail continue. Driving down on those who seek to help the fallen and those who seek to escape alike. Even the animals who have been spared before are now targets.

All fall to the ground. The storm has won, the only movement is the terrible wind and hail tearing at the trees.

No shelter from the hailstones by the tree? To escape from the burning rain? Maybe Airin is safe. Did Erwen make it out the storm? Any of his other companions? The relentless pounding of the hail on his back subdues him. There is no hope in sight or sound. He returns his water pouches to his haversack, and covers the back of his head with his hands. OOC: based on the fact that apparently several are dead I have made a somewhat lengthier post with multiple actions and no longer used spoilers. Hope you don't mind Kelly. I'm sure you will kill Airin for this, but I have to take that chance ;-)

Airin looks towards the Forest hoping to catch a glimpse of her friends. Then suddenly she notices Erwen coming out of the woods. Airin can not call for her for it would expose her.

Erwen notices the monsters below and possibly the Winged Kobolds will fly up once again. As there never were two birds flying around, they may not know Airin is here in the first place.

The fact that Erwen comes flying out of the forest like this, without her friends could only mean something seriously bad has happend. A cold hand crawls up her spine as she thinks about all her friends and ... Kendry... is he safe?!? Something tells her he is not...

Rage... anger... hatred boil in Airin's little body and she opens her backpack taking out 2 vials. She came here to collect the Fey Stone... that is what she will do...

First Airin drinks an Elixir of Sneaking boosting her Move Silently ability to +30 for 1 hour.

Next she empties a Spider Climb potion for 50 minutes.

Seeing how Erwen begins to dodge enemy winged creatures Airin carefully climbs down to the TOP side of the entrace. Thanks to her spider climb she can not fall and will walk the ceilings.

Clad in Black, Elven cloak tightly around her Airin listens intently at the entrance.

[listen: 22]

IF she hears nothing she walks around the edge of the entrance so she can walk the ceiling, moving to the corner, hiding in the shadows she waits a few seconds.

[hide: 39]
[move silently: 34]

Assuming nothing moves, and nothing heard her, she begins to work her way inside Gargul's Castle...

[Using Trapfinding, Trapsense +1, Evasion, uncanny dodge]

Stealthily she works her way deeper into the Castle... ever following the corners of the ceiling, blending into the shadows, not making any noise... Carefully listening for signs of the enemy... hoping to detect possible traps... avoiding to get caught in any chandeliers that hang from the ceiling ;-) ...

DM Kelly - supplemental post
Friday April 14th, 2006 8:18:21 PM

OOC: Gilan only gains 9 HP back when he changed shape, not nearly enough to still be alive. While Podo may have been able to dodge the lightning, I would not have let Kendry lie on top of an alive Podo. In that case, he would have been killed by the rain and hail. It seems wierd to say (since the group is in the past) but we are not going to change past posts. Everyone but Airin and Erwen are dead.

DM Kelly - Gathering of the dead
Friday April 14th, 2006 11:09:53 PM

OOC: Inge, you went too fast. Let's back up. We will go to the point where you see Erwen, then you can decide if you want to stick with your actions.

In the woods, the hail and lightning has taken the life from the last of the group.

Airin, sits in a small group of trees above the entrance to Gargul's lair, looking with both hope and hatred. Suddenly, the storm disperses and the sky clears. Hope that her friends have survived fades as the monsters give out a gut-wrenching cheer and run into the forest towards where she left the group.

Airin is about to find her way into Gargul's lair to seek vengeance, when she spots a bird flying towards her. It carries something beneath it. As it gets closer, Airin's heart leaps with joy. Erwen has somehow made it through the storm. Perhaps the others have survived as well.

Hope fades as Erwen lands by her. She can tell that Erwen is barely hanging onto life, and in her talons is the flask that Kendry had carried. The flask that contains the First Water from Queen Maab's home.

As Airin rejoices in seeing her friend alive, she looks up as she hears the monsters returning. Slung across the shoulders of the ogres are the dead bodies of her friends and their animal companions. They march 100 strong towards the entrance to the lair.

Everyone but Airin Highlight to display spoiler: {The ogres scoop you up and carry your roughly towards Gargul's lair. They laugh in a disgusting way, and praise Gargul as they move. Somehow you are aware, though you cannot see or even hear in the normal sense.}

OOC: OK Kelly, sorry for going to fast. Guess this will make it a whole lot more interesting ;-) Used the same rolls from my previous post.

Airin, no longer in bird shape, awaits Erwen and realizes things went awfully wrong in the forest... not too much later, her worst fear becomes reality as she sees how the monsters are dragging all her friends towards Gargul's castle... all of them... Pain rips through her heart as she gazes the bruised bodies that once were soo full of life... those strong friends that once defended the Oshirr House soo well...

Airin looks at the First Water and hopes there could still be a small chance if only she could pour a few drops of this water into each of their mouths... She HAS to follow them inside, stealthy, quiet, and patiently... waiting for the right moment, observing the enemy.

As planned before she quaffs the Elixir of Sneaking boosting her Move Silently ability to +30 for 1 hour and a Spider Climb potion for 50 minutes. Airin also pours a cure light wounds potion into the beak of Erwen.

Airin asks Erwen to rest out here in the trees and to wait for her till she returns. This she needs to do on her own...

Airin carefully climbs down to the TOP side of the entrance. Thanks to her spider climb she can not fall and will walk the ceilings.

Clad in Black, Elven cloak tightly around her, Airin listens intently at the entrance. If the monsters are somewhat away from the entrance Airin continues inside...

[listen: 22]

She walks around the top edge of the entrance so she can walk the ceiling, moving to the corner, hiding in the shadows she waits a few seconds.

[hide: 39]
[move silently: 34]

Assuming nothing moves, and nothing heard her, she begins to work her way inside Gargul's Castle, carefully following her unfortunate friends...

[Using Trapfinding, Trapsense +1, Evasion, uncanny dodge]

Stealthily she works her way deeper into the Castle... ever following the corners of the ceiling, blending into the shadows, not making any noise... hoping to detect possible traps... avoiding to get caught in any chandeliers that hang from the ceiling ;-) ... ever following her friends deeper into the belly of this castle...

Bralin is defeated, his body broken by the will of Gargulus. Yet he is not dead. Not alive, not dead, not undead. Be there a fourth alternative? Mayhap this quest is not yet lost. Mayhap.....

Lying on the ground, Why do I know I am lying on the ground. Was I right in my thinking that because we move against gargul in the past our souls will find no rest. Not undead, not dead, merely trapped within a decaying form across the centuries until utter madness removes the care of such a fate? Peerimus has stepped far into the dark and as such the ogres rough handling and the laughter do not register.

Kendry - Thanatopsis
Sunday April 16th, 2006 1:03:49 AM

It is very quiet.

Very quiet.

I grew up hearing that people face Gargul when they die. But the Gargul of our time has not yet become him in this ... past time.

Gargul - was it he who sent the storm? Yes. Yes, it was he. Maybe Eberyon helped. Maybe.

I don't feel anything. No Woldsblood.

Is there no god of this time who even cares? The Wold needs someone to ascend.

I'd like some porridge. With golden honey. And ground chestnuts sprinkled over it. And creamy milk fresh from Mitsy, our family cow.

Wait. Mitsy's gone. She died when I was young. Loved that cow. Big brown eyes. Pa used to put four or five of us up on her back, and lead her around the field, cowbell clanging softly.

Someone is coming. Someone is coming. Grotesqueries. Monsters are coming.

How do I know that?

How...

Does Gargul want our souls to - he couldn't put them in one of his monsters, could he?

I will
never let him do that. I will resist.

Did the fae souls resist, too? Did any succeed?

Carrying. They carry me. They carry my friends. To Gargul, I suppose. No porridge there.

DM Kelly - Gathering of the dead 2
Sunday April 16th, 2006 7:14:02 PM

The ogres thunder beneath Airin, perched high above the entrance. Into the giant doors of the keep they go, the battered bodies of her companions bouncing like rag dolls. Fey-kobolds and fey-orcs swarm into the doors after them. None are left to stand watch. Why should they, the enemy has been defeated by their Lord.

Airin watches with a broken heart, but with renewed hope. Taking the First Water from Erwen, Airin drinks her potions of sneaking and spider climb and quietly climbs down to the entrance. Her elven cloak hides her well, and she enters the lair of Gargul. The ceiling is high, ranging from 50 to 80 feet in height. Entrance doors also seem huge, opening together about 30 feet across and 40 feet tall. Inside stairs lead down into a cavernous looking room, with a hallway leading straight ahead.

Airin moves along the ceiling, and gets a good view of the commotion inside. A man sits upon a throne, and in front of him stand the ogres bearing the dead. Swarming about them are the fey-kobolds and fey-orcs.

The man stands, and in his hand is a translucent sphere, glowing with a purple light. As the light in the sphere fades, the man speaks.

"So, these are the ones who defended the Oshirr House. These few prevented you from defeating Alemi! DO YOU SEE WHAT LITTLE EFFORT IT TOOK TO KILL THEM!"

Gargul then calms himself, as he looks carefully at the dead.

"They are dead, yet their souls have not gone on. Perhaps they may be of use yet. Throw them into the pit."

You hear a thud, and estimate they have fallen about 50 feet.

Gargul then says:

"Wait here, I need to take care of something. Then we march on Alemi."

Gargul then disappears down some stairs behind his throne.

Monday April 17th, 2006 2:32:15 AM

Foul beasties carry carrion
And gloat at how their foes were felled
And Gargul boasts of how so little
Effort beat their bones to jell
is a verse from an unsung song that Kendry's soul composes, as his body decomposes.

Right now, Kendry begins summoning his will. He thinks to pull it from the tips of his toes and from the end of his nose - despite not having any clear anatomical sensation. For a soul so comfortable with corporeal existence, it is a challenge to think in abstract, spiritual terms.

Oh Unknown God, above all else, preserve me and my friends - save our souls from Gargulus. Give me strength of will that I bend not to his will.

When I would not lie to save myself a beating, let me remember this.
When I went a week and a day with no food passing my lips in fulfillment of a promise, let me remember this.
When my friends and I waited so patiently, and dealt with murderous and vicious goblins so as to effect a rescue, let me remember this.
When fingers pressed the frets and plucked the strings till blisters formed and sometimes bled, but practice, practice, practice till the lute I finally made to sing the tune inside, let me remember this.

Alemi? Again he marshalls forces against Alemi?

I always liked Alemi. Eberyon did not. He complained about him. Said he went crazy. Feh. Eberyon. Crazy one. Foolish one. Destructive one. Unstable one. Unfaithful one. Poor Maab. Bless Maab.

Was that a thud?
he asks himself, as though some unheard sound finally reached his ears. Mentally, he shrugs his shoulders.

No, Gargul, I won't do what you want me to. You cannot have me. My soul is not yours. You cannot have my friends. Friends! Rise up against Gargul, and the monsters he creates. Lend not your souls to his purpose.

Hmmm. Nothing really itches right now. Good thing. Can't scratch.

Kendry's soul starts looking for places to hide.

Monday April 17th, 2006 5:12:29 AM

Carrying. Words. Thuds. Thuds? Tishe' get ahold of yourself. The mystic thinks for a bit.

If I know who I am, then I'm not dead yet even though my body is dead and I'm trapped inside. But the Feystone can bring souls into monsters.... I wonder if just the proximity of the 'Stone can accomplish this.

Using all of her finely honed will that she can while she is dead and trapped, the soul that is Tishe' will try to make a leap between bodies, to inhabit a living body "just like a Magic Jar spell", she thinks to herself.

And if I suceed, even Gargulus better watch out!

With amazement Airin observes Gargul speaking to his minions, and the fact that her friends are being thrown down a pit...

"No way I can carry them out of here. I need to find a way to bring them back to life." Airin thinks to herself.

"The Fey Stone... Gargul has it in his hands! No trace of Ebryon... Oh wait where's he going with that foul rock... I need to follow him! If they really plan to move on Alemi they will leave this place, leaving my friends alone!!

But first things first... Let's follow Gargul!"

Airin decides to follow Gargul deeper into his lair, ever following the high ceilings. Few light illuminates the corners of the Ceiling so she should be fairly safe up here...

"Let's go!"

Carefully Airin follows the ceilings chasing Gargul...

DM Kelly - The Gathering of the dead 3
Monday April 17th, 2006 4:25:03 PM

Airin sneaks along the ceiling, watching and listening to Gargul. When he disappears, she moves forward, down the hallway towards the throne. Halfway down the hall, she notices there are stairs winding down on both sides. She can hear the echo of Gargul, the stairs lead to the chamber he is in. The monsters are in the throne room, pounding and snorting, ready for the killing. They do not watch for small Halflings moving across the ceiling.

Down you go, lower and lower until a large chamber opens before you (You are at 'A' on lower level map). Next to you, in a large holding pen are imprisoned fey, awaiting their fate. Many creatures are in the pen, including sprites, nymphs and satyrs.

Across the chamber, Gargul stands upon a platform, holding the Feystone in his hand. You can see your dead friends in a heap on the floor across the room, just left of the other fey holding pen. Next to Gargul, on the 'Monster Infusion Stand' is coiled a very large Purple Worm. With a wave of his hand, a sprite rises from the holding pen near him. She struggles, but you can see manacles of energy hold her secure. Soon, the sprite hovers above the worm.

The Feystone begins to glow, and soon a brightly glowing light comes from the sprite and enters the Feystone. With a flash, the light changes and now goes from the stone to the Purple Worm. While the sprite's life is drained away, you notice that the Worm seems to grow and change. Now it looks up towards Gargul.

Gargul speaks to the worm:

"Come, you will tunnel below the Oshirr House, our time is come."

The Worm nods and bellows, and soon is burrowing through the walls of the chamber. Quickly he is gone, a tunnel left in his wake.

Gargul looks at the dead adventures:

"I know you can hear me, your souls are trapped. When I get back I have special creatures I will bring, they will make much better use of your souls than you ever could."

With that, Gargul turns and places the Feystone in glass case. Turning a key, he locks the case. He then goes back up the stairs. The room is empty, except for the fey creatures in the holding pens and the dead.

OOC: Great posting while dead!

Awareness without sound. Fall without pain. Knowledge without sight. Odd.

Bralin's perception is content to wait, to "watch", to consider. Until Gargul's pronouncement. Until the fourth option becomes known.

He means to enslave me within a monstrosity?!? This cannot be!

Cannot feel, cannot see, cannot hear, cannot move. Totally, utterly, completely defenseless against this most depraved intention. The realization seeps like water into the hidden cracks of his stone facade. Bralin Stoneminder, stoic warrior of clan Corrigan, unflinching in the face of sure death, now understands fear.

Unmoving lips soundlessly scream for unhearing ears.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Monday April 17th, 2006 10:51:27 PM

Time means nothing when you are dead, but even in this timeless space, Tishe' can know that striving against the wall between bodies becomes futile. In the current state of affairs.

But when the time comes, and it WILL come, she will be ready. Her soul to empower a monster? I think not. Instead, it will be my soul to enslave the monster to MY will!

The trapped soul that once was Tishe' Bloodpack waits, and if a soul could have eyes, there would be a firey purpose burning there.

Kendry - Thanatopitsus
Tuesday April 18th, 2006 2:39:51 AM

Two waterskins of the first water. Let's see. One in my haversack. One ... Yes, we can hear you, injudicious judge. You think your twisted perversions are better use of souls? Pervert! Wicked, twisted fouler of souls. Pah!

Why waste my breath on such as he in this time? A power for the ages, yes. But I've no respect for who he is, and what he does, in this age. He has knowledge, certes. And power and a purpose. But though his craft and power are great, and armed with cruel hate, there must be one who is more than his equal.

Oh, Unknown God, if you can hear my prayer, then grant us the means to thwart this one. To save Oshirr House. To create a breakwall against the might of Gargul.

Plans twirl through Kendry's mind - considered, discarded, taken, refined. Tishe' asked me to think about organizing our infiltration of Gargul's lair. The druids killed one who may have assisted, had they treated him with anything but the hate they had. Instead, rather blindly they rushed forward. And, frustrated, but - what to do? I followed after. Of course, they thought me the fool for taking a bit of time to try to come up with... so much for planning. Now, Airin did fly on ahead. Did she make it? I hope I hope I hope.

Can they be trusted? Peerimus in particular. There is an intellect there, and strong. But his devotion to 'Father' has blinded him to Eberyon's nature, and the danger he poses to the Wold. Or perhaps not. Will he not see the wisdom of 'Mother' in this matter?

To whom the fey stone? Peerimus would see it destroyed - perhaps. The power of the rings of ascension helped create it. Maab wants it. Alemi asked to see it.

We should let him see it.

Blasted druids! Some of 'em, anyways. Not my Aunt Nilli, nor Airin, nor Tishe', nor - a bunch of 'em. But some of 'em? They should stick to vegetable gardens.

Being turned into a monster does not enter into Kendry's plans.

Airin  d20+10=23 d20+10=25 d20+30=50 d20+25=41
Tuesday April 18th, 2006 8:19:27 AM

Airin's heart pounds rapidly and she's worried someone could actually hear it. Quietly she observes how Gargul uses the Fey stone and sends the Purple worm towards the Oshir House...

With intrest she notices how Gargul stores the Fey stone on the pedestal... she wants it... she will capture it...

But first her friends! But how will those Fey react?!? If they make a noise guards might return down here...

"Should I free them and make them join our side?
Should I first take the Fey Stone?

Aarghh... why don't I have anyone to consult...

First my friends!"

Airin first listens at the stairs trying to hear if this place is deserted or not.

[listen: 23]

If she no longer hears anything from the top level, Airin first crosses the cealing ot the other side of the Hall. Once she's crawling over her friends, she looks down and waves... do they see here?

Then she goes to the side and crawls down along the walls, again she waits to see if no one saw her, or if no noise is heard...

[listen: 25]

Sneakily and silently she moves towards her friends, hiding among them...

[move silently: 50 NAT 20]
[hide: 41]

Airin's now re-united with her friends... she whispers to them as if they are alive, after all so did Gargul...

"Hey guys... I'm here... geee you look awfull...what happend?!?... you look as if you bathed in acid and got struck by lightning? "

Airin remembers the first water. She takes it out and checks how much there's left.

"Let's cross our fingers lads... oh yes that's right, hehehe no crossing your fingers, you're all roasted..."

(ooc given Airin's emotional connection to Kendry I think it is logical that she will first try this water on him...)

Gently Airin brings the water to Kendry's mouth and pours a few drops into his mouth... one drop at the time, after all she needs to bring all her roasted friends to life...

Now let's wait and see...

The events of the last few days begin to heap upon the bent back of the druid and it breaks.
There is no light, no darkness, no pain no life. He feels nothing but the loss of wonder and gods. Maab has failed him, Ebyron has betrayed him and now the former druid slides deeper into the abyss and lets fear and hatred consume him.

DM Kelly - Bring out your dead!
Tuesday April 18th, 2006 6:23:52 PM

Airin is careful and quiet. Waiting patiently, soon all the monster grunts and screams fade off into the distance. They march to finish this war, those who saved Alemi now lie in a heap on the floor.

Climbing down from her perch on the ceiling, her movements are immediately caught by the imprisoned fey. They do not speak, or make a sound of any sort. The eyes though, you can see it in their eyes. Terror - and a new hope.

Airin cradles the limp body of Kendry in her arms. Taking the flask of First Water that Erwen brought her, she carefully pours a small amount into his mouth. Kendry shutters, but does not begin to breath. Pouring more, she notices that it takes a couple of ounces before the grievous wounds are overcome. Kendry takes a breath, his eyes open.

The imprisoned fey look on, still they are quiet, but their eyes are locked upon Airin.

Kendry, on waking
Tuesday April 18th, 2006 8:16:36 PM

Airin's voice. Airin is here.

Airin is here.

She laughs. 'Hehehe' she laughs. Yes, my fingers are crossed. Well, they would be, if I could find them.

Lips. My lips first met hers - when she knocked a chunk out of that duplicitous gargoyle.

Lips. Cool. Moist.

Mouth. Throat. Cheeks. I'm here, Airin, I'm here! Ears. Her voice, close to mine.

Arms. Are her arms around me? Air. I need air. Where is - so breathe, dummy. It's easy. Just

Gasp! Whoosh. Cough. Warm. Arms. Fingers.

Kendry tries to wiggle his toes.

It's dark in here. Why is it so dark? Kendry lifts his left hand and, index and middle fingers now crossed, moves it closely in front of his face. Oh. Eyes. His eyes slowly open. He sees blurry fingers - and Airin's blurry face. In a voice cracking as the healing water spreads through his body to do its work, he looks into her eyes. "Missed you. Love you. Miss me?" He swoons for a moment, the shock of soul being knit back together with body making him feel faint.

[More coming in a wee bit...]

The burning hatred for the actions of Gargul blinds the soul that was Tishe' IS Tishe', silly girl, don't forget for a moment. Voices in this dark prison of her body can only be from Gargulus or his minions.

But...laughter?

Airin! It's Airin, oh what a lovely, sweet sound! The soul wriggles and surges trying to get out, trying to show the little druid that Tishe' is alive in here. In this dark place.

It's NOT over, she tells herself, not when there is so much more to do!

Kendry, on rising
Tuesday April 18th, 2006 11:59:06 PM

After a moment, his head clears. His eyes come more into focus. He looks at the water bag in Airin's hand. "Maab's, eh? It's the best. Next to you, sweetie." He gives her an air kiss. "Enough for everyone?"

He sits up. He talks quietly. "Airin. What do we do next?" He stands, one hand on her shoulder, and sees the mashed bodies of his friends and companions. He looks around the room. Fae prisoners. A sphere over in a glass case.

The halfling bard gives Airin's shoulder a light squeeze, then releases it to check his haversack. He looks for the other water bag, and a scroll. He pulls out both. The scroll he tucks into his belt for the moment.

"Let's wake everyone up." Unless Airin objects or has another plan to put forward to counter his suggestion, Kendry adds, "I've got Podo and Peerimus and Tishe'. You want to help Bralin and Gilan? People first, then their animals. How much do we need?"

He takes a step toward Podo, hesitates, then goes to Peerimus. He holds open the druid's lips, lifting his head, pours a swallow or two down his throat, and waits a moment. "Come home, Peerimus." If the druid begins to breathe, he gently lays his head down as the water does its work.

Next to Podo. "Your turn, cuz." He gives his friend some of the water. "Wakey, wakey."

And on to Tishe'. He straightens out her bent limbs, and rests her head and shoulders on Snout's carcase. "Good woman, Tishe', join us. We have more work to do." As she begins to come around, he asks, "Tish - how do you like my plan so far?" If her eyes can focus, she sees he bears an impish grin.

When Kendry finally opens his eyes Airin's eyes fill with tears: "Oh love I thought I had lost you forever... don't you ever do this again!... promise."

Airin then looks around and notices the fear and possibly new hope in the eyes of the captured Fey. "Love, we need to free these Fey and lead them to Queen Maab later. You go on healing the rest of them."

Handing the remaining water to Kendry and waiting to see him pouring water into the mouths of all others Airin walks over to the Fey pens.

In common and druidic she speaks to them: "Fear not wondrous creatures of nature. We will free you. Be silent and cautious not to bring guards down here... hush friends, hush. Be patient, I will come back to save you and my friends over there will soon open the cages."

Urging everyone to be very silent Airin begins to investigate the cave. She inspects the locks on the Fey Pens ...

Next she moves to the glass cage that holds the Fey Stone hoping to detect any traps or other nasty bugs...

Kendry
Wednesday April 19th, 2006 11:42:29 AM

"Uh, have acid and lightning and hail kill me, then be thrown down a deep pit? I'll try not to do that again, love," he answers Airin. "On the other hand, I don't mind being rescued by you, kiddo."

The halfling listens to her, nods his head in agreement, and gives some of the first water to the others. "Gilan, I have to see you do your amazing changes again."

"Bralin, strong one. We need you with us."

If Nezamil is there, he also awakens him. And after that the animals: Shaylin and Snout.

[If I failed to mention anyone, please assume that Kendry took care of him or her as well.]

Once that is done, he looks toward the caged fey, and thinks for a moment.

He then moves to join Airin by the Fey Stone. "I have something that might help," he says, pulling the scroll with a knock spell inscribed on it. "Shall I unlock it?"

If that seems fine to her, then he reads the spell. If she wants to try to unlock it herself, he is fine with that. If she tries and does not succeed, he reads the knock scroll which, he hopes, unlocks the case. "Let's not touch it, directly."

Does the glass cover lift off? Or is it on hinges? Whichever, Kendry enlists Airin's help in removing it.

He walks over to the caged fey. "No one will ever use the stone against you," he says in the sylvan tongue. "Is there a key kept nearby for this cage?" He looks to see what different races are represented among the inhabitants of the prison.

Peerimus
Wednesday April 19th, 2006 1:10:22 PM

The brink of oblvion and hate call to him and the druid hears it all too clear. His souls seeks out the hatred, the pain, the loss. What was that? A tug, a thought? He pauses and a faint light of hope finds him. Kendry? The voice is Kendry and Airin, Daughter of Maab. Maab had not abandoned him, oh how weak to think such. No this was all Gargul and the dark lord alone. A different focus came through now one of revenge, but That beckoned down the same path as before and Peerimus turns from it.

Again Kendry's voice reaches through the haze and behind it pain. The pain of mending such a broken thing and the druid's eyes flick open, pupils quickly dialate and take in the face of the halfling bard. "So i have finally awoken in hell then and you are my eternal torment." A small smiles cracks his lips as he attempts to sit, but more so rolls to the side. Slowly pulling himself up he glances about for hiw weapon, pack and Shaylin.

Kendry looks with twinkling eyes into those of Peerimus. "I love you too, Peerimus."

Gilan
Wednesday April 19th, 2006 3:52:01 PM

Gilan finds himself running along what is most defintely not his home. The grass is mostly the same but sharper and he finds himself being chased by his one time friend...Ciaran. This is not the friendly chases of the past but one of hunter and prey...Gilan was the prey. As he races along the grass leaves cuts in his fur and saps his endurance little by little. Then he knows that he cannot run any longer as his steps falter. He turns to face his friend and now enemy with large horns, but there is little hope or will left in him.

Ciaran charges on with little concept of who he is chasing down...his only need is hunger and this was his food. As he closes on the big buck before him he notices that it turns to face him. Ciaran can sense the end and he will soon feed and slate his hunger.

Gilan raises his head ever so slightly as he cannot kill his friend...his brother...even to save his own life. But this is no life, but a living hell thought up by Gargulus...who seeks godhood but is not a god in this time. The wolf leaps and the teeth sink in. The throat closes so that no air can get in as the mouth closes further...the shaking and more shaking...as things start to go black. Then the light starts to brighten and for just a second he sees Ciaran leering down at him, canines exposed and red.

He comes to with a start as the face slowly turns into that of Kendry but it does not register fast enough as he scurries away from him. Hands reach and search the ground for some weapon but find nothing...so he pulls upon his natural abilities to find that nothing is there. Then the picture snaps into his head fully and the nightmare is gone...leaving him breathing hard and his head jerking around. "Kendry....?" He can smell the very fear in the air, mixed with a little bit of hope. Slowly he adjusts and looks around him to the others as he steadies himself. "Ciaran..." His right hand flies to his throat to find that it is just fine.

Kendry, Gilan interlude
Wednesday April 19th, 2006 4:21:40 PM

Kendry hands the last of the living water from one of the bags to Gilan. "You'll be fine, Gil. Bring him back. A little of this down his throat, Gilan, and Ciaran should rejoin us."

Bralin
Wednesday April 19th, 2006 9:54:02 PM

Rescued. Reprieved. His comrades have literally saved him from a fate worse than death.

As his eyes open, Bralin grasps Kendry's forearm in a vise-like grip and his eyes bore into the halflings.
"Thank you," he tells Kendry.

After several more moments, the dwarf releases his grip and rises from the floor. His axe slides easily into his hand, and his eyes burn with a fire of determination. There will be a reckoning.

DM Kelly -The dead rise
Wednesday April 19th, 2006 10:37:19 PM

Kendry awakens first, and a tender moment passes between Airin and Kendry. Airin, concerned with the caged fey creatures leaves Kendry to awaken the others. Then, something unexpected occurs:

Kendry awakens Peerimus first. It is difficult to tell, but perhaps Peerimus has a sense of humor.

Kendry then moves to awaken the others. Next Podo, then Tishe, followed by Bralin and finally Gilan. Looking about, Nezamil is not found. Nobody has seen him since the forest.

The supply of water dwindles as he awakens his friends. Judging by the amount of water left, it appears that perhaps only one, maybe two more creature can be rescued. Looking about, he sees Ciaran, Shaylin and Snout lying upon the ground.

Airin searches the locks, and finds that there is one benefit to going back in time. Locks are not nearly as complicated as they are in your own time. She feels confident that she may be able to pick them. (roll lock pick)

The fey inside (a mixture of sprites, nymphs, satyrs, dryads and gnomes) look on. In answer, a nymph says:

"We do not know where the key is kept. Gargul himself controls it."

Death without the journey part 2...

Podo's soul, stuck in his lifeless body finds humor in it all, reminded of Kendry the Bard's silly songs...continues to sing in the Ether...

Podo's lifeless body thrown upon the heap,
Atop his friends and dirt!
Souls are stuck, waiting to be freed,
Oh joy! Who will turn the key?!
Who will turn the key?!...

"Wakey, wakey."

"Wakey, wakey? Hey, Kendry! Wakey, wakey doesn't rhyme! How'd you ever become a bard? Wakey Wakey! My Word! Say, how'd you get in my body?"

Opening his eyes Podo blinks a few times and realizes he's alive! Rising, he looks around at his surroundings and then looks to Kendry and Airin for guidance. "Er where are we and are we safe?" whispers Podo.

Looking around at the prison pens and their prisoners, (spot = 8) doesn't see much. Looking at the pedestal areas, spots a container with a sphere in it. (Spot = 17).

Tishe' (AC 21 HP 56/56) and Snout (AC 22 HP -41/32)
Wednesday April 19th, 2006 11:16:40 PM

Blinking, Tishe' sits slowly up and braces herself on the still form of her companion. Her spirit is firey and ready to move, but newly renewed flesh takes more time to adjust. "Well, we're in Gargulus' lair and no one the wiser. I'd say it was perfect."

Almost perfect. There is only enough water to perhaps restore two comanions. "And we need the fighting skills of Ciaran and Shaylin. My Snout will continue to rest, dreaming of his time in the pools of Ma'ab."

from the beginning of time, water flowed to start life, bringing forth the newness of the Wold to the Will of Ma'ab
to the beginning of time, we came to prevent strife, bringing knowledge and hope and the Compfort of Ma'ab
at the beginning of time, blood flowed to end life, completing the cycle to rest in the Arms of Ma'ab
from the beginning of time

Tears of sadness and purpose sparkle in the plain woman's eyes as she gently strokes an unresponsive eyeridge.

Kendry  d20+3=19 d20+3=23
Thursday April 20th, 2006 3:06:26 AM

Kendry answers Bralin, "My pleasure, good Bralin. Indeed."

And as Podo works to gain his bearings, Kendry smiles at his early utterances, then explains quietly, "We are in a pit that the enemy of our friends uses to steal souls and twist them to his desire. Safe? Not a word I would choose. But, for the moment, we may have a chance to do some good." Noting his father's brother's son looking at the pedestal, he nods. "Yes - what we came for."

Seeing that there is only enough for one or, perhaps, two of the remaining animals, Kendry delivers the bad news. "I did not bring enough of the first water, friends. Only a little remains. Perhaps one or two of the animals might be restored by the remaining liquid. I... I cannot be the one who renders the decision."

When Tishe' offers to forgo the restoration of her own beloved animal's life at this time, Kendry's own eyes tear up.

He hands the lightened waterbag to Gilan. "Half for Ciaran." Then he nods in Peerimus' direction. "And half for Shaylin." As he passes by Tishe', he pauses. "If need be, and if we can, we shall return, brave lady."

He goes to assist Airin with the Fae Stone. When the glass cover is unlocked (whether through her efforts or his knock scroll), Kendry takes out three sacks, putting one inside another, then wadding and stuffing the third into the bottom of the inside sack. He cuts off a length of silk rope, and sets it on the floor. He takes the sacks and pulls them over the top of the sphere, and down. He asks Airin to help keep things steady and well guided. Once the Fae Stone is covered, while wrapping a bit of the edge of the sack around his hands on either side of the double sack to have a full strong grip, he gently nudges the covered sphere off its base, so that it drops fully into the sack. He sits down and ties the silk rope around the top of the sack, then puts it in his haversack. [Two dex checks: 19, 23]

Once the stone is recovered, he goes with Airin over to the prison cage. "Are you willing to help us against Gargul and his forces? We will force no one, and if any are weak, then we will do what we can to offer succor. If any are weak, or afraid, then we do not ask you to come. We wish your welfare. There has been too much of Gargul's woe upon you and your kin."

If Airin's skills opened the lock on the Fae Stone, but falter on the cage, Kendry will use the knock scroll - unless Bralin wants to break the lock.

Thursday April 20th, 2006 7:26:59 AM

"Ok Kendry, you use your scroll to open that glass cage that holds the Fey Stone, and I think your idea to store it sounds good enough. We need to get out of here presto. We need to take that stone to Alemi and consult him about it I think.

Did either of you see what Gargul did with it? He "transplanted" a sprites soul into a purple worm... who... OH CRAP! Who is tunneling its way towards teh Oshir House. We need to go and help Alemi and his students!!"

"Dear wonderous creatures, sprites, nymphs, satyrs, dryads and gnomes, shall you join our side if I free you from these prisons? Shall you help us protecting the Oshir House? Are you ready to protect nature? Are you ready to fight with us and defend ourselves against Gargul and his minions? I guess with all the deaths he has caused among your folk, I suppose asking for your help isn't too much to ask right?"

First Airin awaits their response. If it is positive, Airin will work on the locks to free the Fey.

"Be silent friends. Let's not rush outside. We need to think where to go.

Either we follow that Purple Worm who is making us a direct tunnel towards the Oshir House, the only obstacle would be the worm, and as we approach from the back it could not eat us... or we follow Gargul and his minions outside this Castle. But... we may face guards."

[open lock prison 1: 27 / 24]
[open lock prison 2: 27 / 22]

Then Airin takes a moment and goes to see her friends. "It's good to see you are back among the living my friends. Now remember to take an umbrella next time you go walking in a thunderstorm..."

Kendry
Thursday April 20th, 2006 1:19:15 PM

"We need to get word to the Oshirr House as soon as we can, then, Airin," Kendry says. He looks around. "Have you seen Erwen?"

Gilan
Thursday April 20th, 2006 1:55:51 PM

Gilan glances to the waterskin and shakes his head. "Ciaran has done all he can for us..." Tears swell in his eyes and he wipes them away. "For me..." He takes the time to compose the body of his friend and then shakes his head as he touches the wolf's head with loving care. "It is time for him to return to Maab and be happy...hopefully to hunt the great stag." With a slight cough he wipes the tears away and stands slowly, whispering one last time to his brother. "Catch him for me my friend."

As he stands and turns there is a new light in his eyes. Many have seen it before and it has only one name...HATE. He listens to the group as they talk and then shrugs his shoulders. "It might be folley to split our forces but there are some of use that maybe able to slow that army...including the purple wyrm." His jaw is twitching with barely controled anger as he speaks and he meets each person's eyes as he speaks. Though they linger upon Peerimus's eyes the longest.

Looking back to Kendry he waits for a couple before he speaks again. "Your call." He does not add the other thoughts that are going through his head...but anyone could guess by his posture and speech.

Peerimus
Thursday April 20th, 2006 5:22:23 PM

Peerimus moves a few steps closer and puts his hand on Gilan's shoulder and also looks ove at Tishe crouched by Snout. He nods to his brother, "Brother." as he takes teh water bag that Kendry had just given him. His tone communicates all Gilan needs to know that Peerimus will follow him into the very heart of hell if need be. Peerimus then moves to crouch beside Tishe and his voice softens, "Daughter of Maab." The bag then pours as much as is needed of the first water into the crocodiles mouth. "Such a true companion can not be left in this place Tishe." Peerimus then moves with the water bag to Ciaran and pours what is needed for the wolf. "Your brother needs you Ciaran, on your feet now."

If any is left Peerimus will give it to Shaylin, otherwise he will heft the leopard scross his shoulders and turn to the group. There is no look of sadness nor the burning for revenge for the fallen animal. "I would see her away from here, but it is very clear to me your connections are more profound. Shaylin was a companion in the jungle and on the hunt, but not my first or even third cat. I will befriend another when we return."

Looking to Kendry, "Gilan may be right, though Gargul could very likely destroy us brother without really trying. We should meet him and his forces at Oshirre house where Alemi and Domi could counter Gargul's power somewhat."

His face scrunches, "Gilan and I are likely the fastest, you want us to go ahead of you?"

Kendry
Thursday April 20th, 2006 5:51:23 PM

The fae. Perhaps some from among them have some means of fast travel.

"Are any of you able to fly?" Kendry asks the fae who now, presumably, are set free. "If one or two could fly swift and take a message to the Oshirr House - to Alemi or Domi, then that could help us thwart Gargul in his plans. If another one or two could also travel quickly to the Lady Maab - then perhaps she, too, might muster some of her children to fluster Gargul's will."

He pulls out an inkpen and parchment, and begins to write some things down as he talks.

"Things to consider, friends. The purple worm's tunnel will go as far as the worm has gone. Whoever goes after it, will have to return back through this place once the worm is dispatched, unless it breaks the surface from time to time. Should the worm crest the surface not too far from the House, then submerge to come up in the central courtyard, then that grants to the enemy a way inside. I think that pursuit of the worm is important. Alemi, who has mighty magics, may be able to halt the worm before it gets that far. Or Maab may have some means.

"But, if left in our hands, the swift killing of the worm now, before it has had time to burrow too far, may be the most... economic course of action.

"Our priorities might be first, send messengers. At least two separate messengers to each place, who will take alternate routes, and stay away from Gargul's army on the way.

"Next - the worm or the army?" Kendry scratches his head. "We could split into two groups. But we are not many. Some who traveled with us early are no longer among us. And others..." here he looks with sorrow at the body or bodies of the animals.

He takes a deep breath, inspired by the self-sacrificing nature of the three. He looks at Tishe', Gilan and Peerimus. "It is an honor to serve with such as you." He then broadens his view to include the rest of his friends in the statement, too.

He turns to Gilan. "Speak plainly how we would kill the worm. And slow the army."

He addresses Peerimus' counsel. "You likely are correct - if we attempt to harass his army on the march, Gargul's demonstrated power might easily take us out."

"Oh. I almost forgot." He turns to Airin. "Are you able again to transform into an eagle, love? And another important question - how long since Gargul left to lead his army? Fifteen minutes? More? Also, love, can you estimate the numbers and races you saw on your way in to this place?"

He adds, "Friends, this is the time for counsel. Please do not withhold your insights, ideas, or wisdom. Don't worry about possible offense or hurt feelings. A few minutes of planning now can multiply the effect of our force."

Bralin
Thursday April 20th, 2006 7:03:06 PM

Swift pursuit is not one of Bralin's strong points. He will catch neither worm nor army.

The dwarf considers the bag in Kendry's hand. It is the source of Gargul's power.

"Mayhap destroying the Stone will release the souls of the Fey," he points out.

Kendry
Thursday April 20th, 2006 7:46:26 PM

(The bag was momentarily in Kendry's hand as he earlier took it off the pedestal, but quickly was placed directly into his haversack. He didn't want to be holding it a long time.)

"Mayhaps, Bralin," Kendry replies. "Perhaps, though, we take it to the one who created the Rings of Ascension, from which it was derived. Alemi recognized the rings' mark on the magic of this stone. He asked to see it. I have seen his integrity and humility. Of any of the powers of this age, him I trust the most."

Gilan [1st illegal post]
Thursday April 20th, 2006 10:54:04 PM

Gilan simply nods and lets Peerimus go about his work. He then turns to Kendry with that same feral smile but tinged with a need for something. "Unlike my brother and sister of the forest...I have taken to walking the path of the beast...I have forms that would allow me to catch such a worm." His eyes take on an even harder edge as he speaks next. "I will not say that I can stop it...but slow it and make it less dangerous for others...that I can do and do not fear...I have many other forms that can be just as dangerous if not more so than a purple worm." He shrugs as he considers the spells that he has left to him which are many as he has not used any lately. "My spells are for fighting...though if I am lucky I could possibly change said worm into something less dangerous...my brother and sisters could help more with other spells than me." He looks to Tishe' a fellow Packer, Peerimus who he has only known for a short while but still is kindred with and lastly Airin who he has found to be very dependable and he owes much too.

Looking back to Kendry he shrugs his shoulders. "Peerimus and I could take the worm and then catch up...we are among the fastest of the group." He looks to Ciaran who is now looking around with keen interest and just a little bit of fear. "I only ask one favor Kendry...you will watch Ciaran for me and he will watch you." A short whistle brings Ciaran to his side and he points to Kendry with a single finger. "Guard and protect." He then ruffs his brother' hair as they both look into each other's eyes...maybe for the last time.

Spell List to come

Tishe' (AC 21 HP 56/56) and Snout (AC 22 HP 32/32)
Thursday April 20th, 2006 11:51:11 PM

Not understanding what Peerimus means to do until it is too late, Tishe' feels Snout stir and awaken as if from a hibernation. Far from being thankful, she turns with eyes blazing at the elder druid.

"Foolish man!" she tells him eyes blazing, "you counsel shuttlecocking for speed and then restore the slow crocodile instead of the swift leopard? Snout is a packmate and I would weave picks with him as I would care for any of you, but that is not what we needed now!" The short woman looks like she wants to lash Peerimus further with her tongue, but is too angry to do so. Instead, she finishes with hands thrown up and a "Fine!"

Her mercurial attention span focuses on the problem at hand and she turns to Kendry.
"I am not a tactician, but it seems that if Gargulus can kill us at will on the surface, we have to follow the worm."
She considers further. "Swift messengers from the fey to Ma'ab and from us to Alemi would probably be of more help than all our power, and all the rest make as much haste after the burrowing creature."
And a note of caution "We don't know what powers that fey soul gave the purple worm, but remember that it has a poisoned stinger on the tail and can defend itself from behind."
"I can help people go faster with a Longstrider spell, and then for shorter periods of time with Flying and a Haste."

Snout wakes up and stares interestingly around the new area. He notices his human talk with the other and notes the animated posturing and hissing. Ah, thinks the croc, mating ritual.

DM Kelly - a plan in the making.
Thursday April 20th, 2006 11:58:35 PM

The fey nod at Airin, and several voice a desire to be free. Some are willing to help, but it seems that many desire to get back to Maab's protection. Airin then opens the lock, and they pour out of the holding cells. The sprites all can fly, and offer to help by taking warning messages.

Meanwhile, the group that just a short day ago was divided seems to have united. They strive towards the same purpose, and selfless acts rule the moment. Shaylin lies dead, but Snout and Ciaran have risen (For Ciaran roll d2, 1=full health, 2=barely alive). Yet Tishe' points out a fact that others overlooked. Snout is slow and Shaylin is fast.

Plans are discussed, and the sense of urgency grows. It has been about 15 minutes since the worm left, and 10 minutes since Gargul and his monsters left.

Kendry
Friday April 21st, 2006 1:07:34 AM

Kendry is impressed with Gilan's ideas. He accepts the dwarf's charge to look after Ciaran. "That is a signal honor, Gilan. I shall treat him as a friend." He spends a few moments with Ciaran, touched by the gesture and request.

Kendry then sends four messages with the sprites: Two for Alemi at Oshirr House. "Tell him what you have seen. Take a wide route so you don't cross the army's path." Two for Maab. "Ask her to send what help she can send to Oshirr House. And tell her - if any are afraid, let them not come. And tell her thank you, from her visitors."

For the sprites who fly to Alemi at Oshirr House
G. & army on way. defend.
For the sprites who fly to Maab
G. & army to O.H. Send help.
He hands Airin a scrap of paper.

"Podo - you have some of that dust of dryness, do you not? Please give one portion to one of the sprites who is going to see Lady Maab, if you would."

If Podo is willing to do so, he gives special instructions to the sprite, taking her (him?) aside and says, very quietly, in the sylvan tongue, Highlight to display spoiler: {Ask permission first of the Lady Maab for what I ask of you. I am Kendry, whom she has met, and the dust is Podo's whose eyes her water healed. Take this dust. Cast it into the pool of First Water. Remove the resultant bead of dust - it will have taken nearly 100 gallons of water into itself, but will still weigh little. Place the dust in this vial. Take the vial to the Oshirr House. If Airin is there, give it to her. Tell her it is the First Water, and she needs many tubs to hold it, or one vast pool. If Airin is not there, then give it to Alemi, and tell him the same thing. It will heal those who are injured who drink of it, whether fae or noble. They can fill many water bags and drinking vessels with the pure waters. Even if the Lady Maab can send no other aid, this one thing would be among the greatest succor she, and you, can render. What is your name, beautiful sprite, that I may remember you in song?"

He also writes on a small bit of parchment the following in High Woldian:
This speck of dust, if thrown down, will spill forth a large quantity of First Water, which has the power to heal and restore. Find a good sized container, large enough for 100 gallons, to receive it. Then fill water bags, drinking vessels, and what have you with the water. It can heal and restore. Use it wisely, sparingly.
"Along with the small circle of dust you will place back in this vial, give this note to Airin or Alemi. May you be blessed and protected on your journey, brave one."
}

"Tishe' - can Snout accompany the slower fae back to Maab's?" Kendry asks. "You know how he likes the water there, and she may welcome him."

"So then," he addresses the group. "A few messengers sent on ahead. We get the worm, then try to catch up to, maybe get ahead of the army? Or come up on them as they begin their attack against Oshirr House, so that their focus is split?"

"I left Erwen outside. She was injured when I found her carrying that first water. It was then that I realised something must have gone awfully wrong with all of you. Erwen is still outside I assume.

Only half a druid I am so I can only shape into an eagle once per day. "

Airin witnesses the loss for Peerimus's companion and whispers to him :"I'm sorry... take him with you and maybe queen Maab will help you to bring him back."

"Let's no waste time friends. Messages are sent to Maab and Alemi. Now we need to start moving to the Oshir House ourselves.
I'd hate to split our group for together we may proove to be stronger.
If any go after that Worm we need to protect them with all we have... there are several potions I carry that could help them.

Us Halflings are the slowest among you... I know no way to get to the Oshir House Before his army arrives. There were hundreds of them, Ogres, Kobolds, flying Kobolds... They left only 5 minutes ago (assuming the DM agrees with this)"

I'm not sure if there are still guards in this place. Let me go and look while you decide."

Like before Airin climbs on the walls and the ceiling and goes to the top level. Checking for guards and traps once again.

Friday April 21st, 2006 9:18:32 AM

Peerimus looks back to Tishe without issue to her anger, "Snout is just as fast as Bralin, Airin and Kendry and you need him far more than I need the leopard." Being done he looks to Gilan and Kendry and the rest.

"I am immune to the Worms venom but am more concerned with being swallowed. It is likely the creature will be able to turn around and attack with teeth as well as tail. And alone my chances are not good."

"The army with Gargulus can likely tell of the Worms progress and will want to stay pace with it. They will be moving much slower We could pursue the worm for a distance, Gilan could create an escape side tunel and then all of us make to Oshire House with speed."

"I've never heard of a worm that could do a U-turn in its own tunnel... we'd be approaching from the rear. The only danger would be if the worm backed up and would trample us..."

Peerimus [illegal 2nd]
Friday April 21st, 2006 1:20:27 PM

I was thinking "If the worm can borrow through the earth, it could burrow a chamber to turn back on itself. The extra digging would not hve to be great to accomodate a creature with no skeletal structure like a worm."

Kendry
Friday April 21st, 2006 1:46:00 PM

"Airin - you are excellent at keeping yourself hidden. Crawling around here with Gargul in the very room, and he didn't spot you! Would you check the way out of here for the fae, make sure that they can leave without capture by any remaining guards? Once they are free and on their way, then let's all follow the worm. If Gilan can help us escape the tunnel, then that answers my last significant concern."

Kendry casts another message spell including all the adventurers, and two of the sprites (one who is heading to Oshirr House and one who is heading to Maab).

"Let's follow Airin and escort the fae until they escape through the forest, then let us enter the tunnel. Any questions or objections?" he asks the party, and the fae.

DM Kelly
Friday April 21st, 2006 3:40:40 PM

Kendry asks the sprites to serve as messengers, and they readily agree.

"Yes, Maab must know. Gargul takes our souls."

The sprites then flutter about the room, eager to be on their way. Kendry however urges caution, and Airin sneaks back up to check for guards.

Gargul though is arrogant, and apparently believes that none would dare move against him. He knows that if anyone had knowledge of his plans, they would spend time to bolster their defenses rather than attack his palace. Besides, nobody knows he has the Fey Stone.

Peerimus makes keen observations about the worms speed and abilities, while Kendry makes an elaborate plan regarding dust and First Water.

Discussions take time, and it has now been 20 minutes since the worm left and 15 minutes since Gargul's departure.

"Blessings upon you, good fae," Kendry bids them farewell.

"Last thing, then. Airin, please call Erwen. He needs healing, from what you tell me." He talks soothingly to the eagle, and gently applies the wand of cure moderate wounds to the bird [heal 18 hp damage]. "Would he be willing to come under with us, or shall we have him return to Oshirr House?" he asks her. If the latter, then he has already prepared a small oilcloth-wrapped parchment for her to tie to his leg, with more information on it than he sent with the sprites, including the make-up and approximate numbers of Gargul's army, and the time of day they left the lair. He does not mention the worm. If all goes well, they will not need to worry about it.

If Ciaran is 'barely alive,' then Kendry does the same for him [14 hp cured]. "If any can help him further, then please do so." Of course, if Ciaran is fully healed and not in need of curing, Kendry does not use the wand.

"Let's go. Peerimus, Gilan, whoever else can move with speed - what of you, Podo? You're faster than the rest of us. Go ahead, deal with the worm, if you are absolutely confident the three of you can do so. We will catch up as quickly as we can. Tishe' - I think the spells you mentioned we might reserve until later.

"If you are not fully confident of your ability to kill the worm, then let us catch up more slowly that we might dispatch the worm as a group."

He says, "Let's go." And begins to move with speed after the worm.

[If the slowest of the group hustle, then we should all catch the worm in 40 - 50 minutes, perhaps.]

Podo nods to Kendry and goes to search his person looking the dust of dryness packets. Find the two packets in a pocket forgotten in the heat of battle.

"Kendry, here is one of the packets you asked for. They need to use the entire packet, but it will produce a pellet for easy carrying weighing almost nothing!"

"Good thinking Kendry. I know you were my cousin for a reason! You think like me!" grinning as Podo announces why they are cousins.

Gilan
Friday April 21st, 2006 11:00:14 PM

Gilan shrugs and then smiles as he has another thought. "I may have a form that could allow us to travel fastly after said worm." His smile spreads even further as his eyes gleam. "I can assume a form that would allow all to ride...well the crocodile could not and by moving at an increased speed..." He just shrugs as he hopes it will be enough to overtake the worm. "Maybe with all of us we can kill it or at least make it surface and then knock it around."

He looks to the pit to try and figure out if he has enough room for another form that will allow him to get others out with him.

Trying to figure out how deep the pit is and how wide across.

The pit is 80 feet wide and 30 feet deep - Kelly

Tishe' (AC 21 HP 56/56) and Snout (AC 22 HP 32/32)
Sunday April 23rd, 2006 5:18:52 AM

Not being a tactician and not having any spells to help the group at the moment, Tishe' waits for Gilan to assume a shape they can all ride and move out after the ensouled purple worm.

She readily agrees to let Snout go back with the slower fey, and tries to convey that thought to the croc with limited success.

To Podo (earlier, before sprites left):
"Thanks, Pode, for giving the dust of dryness to the sprite."

"All gather 'round Gilan, and prepare to hang on!" Kendry says. He makes sure he is sitting near Airin.

Airin and Erwen
Monday April 24th, 2006 4:12:24 AM

Airin goes outside to look around the cave. There she finds her beloved Erwen sitting calmly in a tree. Erwen must have observed the Army of gargul exit from the caves...

She takes her (Kendry, it's a her ... see?) to Kendry and agrees to send erwen ahead of the group towards teh Oshir House with the note written by Kendry.

Then she prepares to move along with the group.

"Say, what if that worm hasn't made an opening to the surface before we reached him? Then we may have to walk the entire way back to get out of that tunnel... and what about cave ins? If we fight that worm and it begins to wriggle we could end up..."

"Let's chase him, but not fight it untill it has reached the outside air."

Airin puts her crossbow on her back, secures her weapon and begins hurrying after the rest.

"Does a worm have tremmorsense?" she wonders to herself but doesn't speak up.

DM Kelly
Monday April 24th, 2006 6:04:50 PM

Snout moves out with the fey creatures towards Queen Maab's home. At first, the crocodile seems confused, but several of the fey encourge him with sounds that must be words to a crocodile.

Airin asks Erwen to fly with a note to the Oshirr House, and she takes off with all speed. Airin then goes back inside and prepares for the journey ahead. She voices concern about killing the worm while underground, and wonders if it will be able to tell that it is being followed.

Bralin has his say, which is characteristically short. He begins running down the tunnel.

Everyone else stands about, trying to decide how to proceed.

Discussions take time (Airin went outside, called Erwen, gave directions to her, and tied a note onto her leg), and it has now been 25 minutes since the worm left and 20 minutes since Gargul's departure.

Kendry is waiting for Gilan to adapt a form he believes will allow them all to haste after the worm.

Gilan [wildshape: remorhaz, longstrider]
Monday April 24th, 2006 7:29:13 PM

Gilan just smiles as he looks to the tunnel that the worm created. He pulls out a rod from his pack and then casts a spell upon himself. "Well no time like the present." He can see that the others are ready to move out and he closes his eyes. With little concentration on his part his body takes on a liquid like quality that starts to form into that of another large worm like creature.

When at last the change is total you find that in front of you is now a huge creature...a remorhaz. The huge head turns slowly to regard the group in a toothy grin.

[longstrider - 18 hours]

This form is at least 20 feet long, 5 feet wide and weighs in at 10000 pounds. The heat ability is also only active when the creature is mad. Movement is 30 feet or 40 feet with longstrider and can burrow at 20 feet.

Kendry
Monday April 24th, 2006 8:41:16 PM

"You just get more and more handsome every time I see you, Gilan," Kendry says after he transforms himself.

"Let's ride!" Once Gilan the remorhaz places himself so he can climb on, Kendry does so. He'll give a hand up to others - holding out his whip for them to climb. He puts on some goggles, to keep dirt out of his eyes as they go through the tunnel. If there are handy protrusions on the back of this form, he takes some silk rope and ties some hand holds and foot straps.

Tishe' (AC 21 HP 56/56) without Snout
Monday April 24th, 2006 11:24:58 PM

The brown-haired girl watches Snout move off with the fey, and turns her head to see Gilan transform into a huge beast. A soft 'oh' escapes her lips as she sizes up the situation and smiles. Quickly clambering up the side of Gilan, she tries to make a secure seat for the chase.
"Tie or hold on, packmates, this is going to be a bumpy ride!". She takes her advice to heart and uses a piece of rope to tie herself to a dorsal protusion.

Snout looks back at his human and gets scratched on the eyeridge. At the urging of the fey, he moves off with them. The reptile has known in the past there were times when he couldn't guard his human, and knows this is another time. She has always come back, but the scaly animal is still worried...

Tuesday April 25th, 2006 8:13:31 PM

Gilan's transformation is horrific. Had you not seen him change yourself, you would be tempted to flee or attack. Luckily he is friendly, and he scampers over to the tunnel.

Kendry climbs aboard, and helps others up using his whip. Taking silk rope, he ties hand and footholds onto the remorhaz.

Once everyone is on board, the remorhaz takes off through the tunnel that the purple worm has made. He can make much better time, as he does not have to dig.

He runs down the tunnel, occasionally he needs to clear out some debri, but he makes good time. Bralin has a keen sense of distance and direction, and it seems to him that you have traveled almost 2 miles heading towards the Oshirr House. You are about a fifth of the way to the fortress, and it has taken a half hour.

The tunnel is pitch black.

OOC: Are you using the remorhaz dark vision, or do you carry a light source in the tunnel?

Gilan [wildshape: remorhaz, longstrider, darkvision]
Tuesday April 25th, 2006 9:53:19 PM

Gilan, in the form of a remorhaz, continues to barrel on down the tunnel. He has no need for light though he does wonder how those without the ability to see in the dark are doing. Then again it might be best for them to not see as he careens down the tunnel at a break-neck speed. If he spots the purple worm ahead of him he will slow down some and hope that those on his back will notice as well...maybe one with darkvision will notice the worm as well.

[longstrider - 17.5 hours]

Sorry about that Kelly. Did not even think about the darkvision and needing it in the tunnels. I do have that ability in this form but not any of the really special ones...scent, tremorsense or ones like that.

He is not too pleased with his first version (Use rope: 12), so reties it a few times until satisfied (Use rope: 20, 19, 19 - he figures that's as good as it's going to get).

From time to time he gives a pat to Airin's hand around his waist.

Tuesday April 25th, 2006 11:39:19 PM

Careening through the tunnels on a fast moving giant insect is an experience Tishe' hasn't had before, and she drinks in the feelings. But the darkness gets to her, and she needs to know what is going on, so she casts a spell from rehmoraz-back (Concentration 23) and now has Darkvision.

She holds off on casting anything else in the half-hour ride as it would be sure to wear off before encountering the worm. "What could we do to prepare in case it ambushes us?" she wonders aloud.

Tishe' looks around to automatically pet her companion, but, she remembers, Snout is now with the fey. It would have been great to have him in the coming battle, but he would never have been able to get on the remorahz or keep up.... "Looks like it is just me and the packmates."

Airin
Wednesday April 26th, 2006 7:45:06 AM

In the blackness of the tunnel Airin can't see a thing. She tucks her head in Kendry's neck and grabs him firmly not wanting to fall of.
Not knowing where they are going to end up on this bumpy ride gives Airin the shivers and a touch of panic races through her heart.

"How will we fight if we can't see it" she whispers in Kendry's ear...

The ride is odd, Peerimus has never ridden much of anything let alone a multi segmented arachnid like monster. Kendry pulls a torch and the druid nods and gives a wane smile as he then casts Greater Shillelagh upon his staff followed by Barkskin.

"Let me move in first my friends, the worm will likely strike with its tail and I can not be harmed by the venom." With a pause and another odd smile, he adds, "Of course Bralin, if all we see are teeth, feel free to lead the charge."

DM Kelly
Wednesday April 26th, 2006 6:09:12 PM

Ahead in the darkness (past your light source) you can hear what must be the worm digging. It sounds like you are closing fast on it.

Moving forward, you notice that the tunnel makes an abrupt turn to the right.

Those with darkvision Highlight to display spoiler: {You see the stinger of the worm disappear around the corner. Since you can only see 60 feet, it is very close.}

Kendry hears [Listen: 24] the worm burrowing ahead. On sensing the abrupt change in direction, he casts blink on himself. He checks to make sure his cold iron daggers are reachable - left wrist, right calf.
"Purple worm

We will Gargul's plan gainsay"
the halfling sings out [Perform, singing: 21] to inspire courage in his companions, and self [+1 to attack, damage, saves vs fear & charm for all allies of the bard for the next several rounds].

As he sings, he hands off the everburning torch to Airin, then walks to the back of Gilan's present form, and jumps down [Jump: 24].

On landing, he strikes a sun rod on the ground, to light up his immediate surroundings. Either the worm will try to eat him up, or he'll see its side soon, perhaps. Kendry moves back down the way they came some twenty feet or so.

As they move ahead, Bralin has pulled a potion from his pouch. Upon seeing the worm, he drinks it [Bulls Strength). Figuring Gilan is going to get a lot closer, the warrior stays on board.

Gilan [wildshape: remorhaz, longstrider, darkvision]

Gilan slows as he spots the stinger end of the worm before him and takes it a might slower as he advance. He is wondering if the worm is trying to double back or cut a side tunnel and turn on them. He decides to take the chance and moves forward anyways as he tries to set himself for an attack.

Thursday April 27th, 2006 7:45:18 PM

The tunnel is deep and dark, and measures just over 5 feet in diameter. Those taller among you now see why the dwarves and halflings developed into shorter and stout bodies over time.

Gilan in the shape of the remorhaz moves forward, but slows as he sees the tail end of the worm. The worm continues moving forward, with the tunnel turning even sharper to the right. Gilan can catch the worm this round, if he desires to deal with the pointy end of the worm (roll attack if you wish).

Kendry, Airin and Peerimus jump from the remorhaz, and Kendry places a torch in the ground. Casting a spell, Kendry's position seems to blink back and forth, and it is very difficult to keep track of where he might be. Yet his singing comes through strong, and lifts the morale of the group. A hard task to do deep underground, with a huge purple worm seeming to turn back towards you.

Airin tries to hide in a crevasse in the wall she cuts with a dagger. Dirt starts to fall around her, but for now the roof holds.

Peerimus casts a spell and 4 wolves appear in the tunnel by him. Hoping for more time, he pulls a scroll from his pack.

Tishe, Bralin and Podo still ride Gilan's remorhaz form. Tishe casts a spell upon Bralin, allowing him to fly.

"Kendry... the Fey Stone!... it was used to put a soul into this worm, maybe it can be used to take back the soul from this worm! Let me try! Give me the Fey Stone! Hurry!!"

Airin waits for Kendry to throw the bag that contains the stone. If Kendry gives her the stone she silently waits in the crevasse without taking out the stone yet. Very silently, not moving to avoid the worm from sensing her she waits (she remained in the same place where she jumped off)

Meanwhile she's thinking how Gargul must have used the stone. He was merely holding it in his hands. The Stone MUST be the answer...
