The large shimmering hand in front of Ingrge pivots to the West as Ingrge casts a spell. Looking up, he is surprised to see ...
INGRGE (& K'NARA) ONLY: Highlight to display spoiler: { Ingrge can see a werewolf attacking Brother Bertram from square: R18. Something familiar about the beast tugs at his mind, and then he realises - this is Amalee. }
... Moving closer, Ingrge also notices the large charmed werewolf (h6) at his side. It lowers its head in deference.
Olana cuts the last strand of sinewy tissue away from the beast's spine and lifts the large werewolf's head (h7) up to the sky. She is almost entirely covered in dark, sticky blood.
Brother Bertram recovers from the blow to his chest and immediately calls down a streak of fire from the sky. At the same time, K'Nara moves into the nigh-affected area and attempts to slash at the space in front of him. He tries to warn her, but too late - the flames burst in a 10-foot area (Dam: 34 | K'Nara, please make a Ref. save vs. DC: 22 for reduced Dam: 25).
K'NARA (& INGRGE) ONLY: Highlight to display spoiler: { The flames roil around Amalee's hybrid body, but appear to have little effect. In fact, she seems to take some delight in the ineffectiveness of the spell. Satisfied with her abilities, she turns on Brother Bertram and her arms quickly become a blur of strikes. }
Brother Bertram, and those near him, notice the brief outline of a figure within the flames (square: R18). Then, as quickly as the flames fade away, so too does the outline. Suddenly, Brother Bertram is hit hard multiple times (AC: 31, 28, 40, 19, 31 = possible crit: 23 | Dam: 13, 9, 11, -, 17, -). The flurry of blows sends Brother Bertram reeling and he drops heavily to the ground bleeding (a total of 50 points of damage reduces Brother Bertram to -1 hit points | Please roll d% to stabilise his bleeding).
Lian attempts to sweep attack the invisible foe, but misses. Leaping up he strikes the air with his long reach, but again does not connect with anything. Frustratingly, K'Nara and Gunther also miss their shared target.
K'NARA & INGRGE ONLY: Highlight to display spoiler: { Amalee takes a 5-foot step forwards, over Brother Bertram's limp body (square: R19). }
Gunther, Milo, Falin, and Lian notice footprints appear near Brother Bertram's limp body.

Olana HP 69 AC 27 Wednesday April 26th, 2006 10:09:49 PM
Olana stands there holding the wolf head aloft for a moment. She then looks at her surroundings. There were more wolves, lying on the ground, and Bertram, too. Did they all need their heads removing?
Dropping the severed head, she sets off in Bert's direction. But he begins to stir, so she looks around for something dead to cut up, and approaches H2.

Continuing to focus on the muddy footprints around him (Spot=14), Gunther tries once more for the elusive werewolf. Watching K'nara's actions closely, Gunther attempts to aim his attacks even though he can't see his opponent. He has a terrible time of it, but he thinks that maybe just once he manages to connect (AC 35/28 crit?, 60 for concealment=hit, for 30 if crit, 10 if no crit.).
Falin (AC 24, hps 61/61) (non-detection) Wednesday April 26th, 2006 11:10:27 PM
Falin narrows his eyes and begins to speak in a different language. His voice lowers an octive as the magic rolls off his tounge. The air around him seems to energize slightly and then gone.
Falin seems calmer as he prepares for his next attack.
K'Nara dives forward and heals Brother Bertram. Opening his eyes he feels rather rattled and takes a moment to collect his senses. Realising the party is in grave danger, he temporarily sets aside his uncertainty and channels healing energy into himself. Glowing faintly, he then distributes this energy amongst his companions - sending thin streaks of blue-white light arcing outwards. { OOC: Everyone is healed 22 hit points. }
Lian misses his first, second, and third attacks. However, his fourth blow connects solidly and he is positive he felt something break. Withdrawing his hand, he notices transparent blood slowly appear across his knuckles.
Milo also connects twice with his short sword. The bloodied halfling grins.
Moments later, Gunther slashes at the air with his two-bladed sword and connects with a sickly crunch. In response, a pained howl echos out across the swamp-land. Behind Gunther, Falin prepares for his next attack and casts a spell: True Strike.
From across the swamp, Ingrge aims his staff in the group's direction and three rays of intense light shoot forward. They slam into the very air itself - just feet away from K'Nara and Brother Bertram. An unwoldly scream is heard and suddenly everyone can see their attacker. Standing before them is a grotesque werewolf. Her dark fur is matted with Lian's, Milo's, Ingrge's and Brother Bertram's blood. It is clear she is also injured, though she hides it well. Stepping fluidly from one paw to the other, she realises everyone's eyes are upon her.
Something about this werewolf commands presence and yet ... something else ... something familiar ... tugs at the group's memory. And then they realise: this is Amalee.
She takes a 5-foot step backwards and addresses the group. "It's been fun toying with you, prey." She spits the last word out, and glances at her fallen werewolves. "Keep the pelts - I've many others. You'll meet them shortly, no doubt." A strange light emenates around her body. "For now, I'll leave you to prepare for the hunt proper ... and mourn the loss of your pathetic companion, the elf." She allows the weight of her words to sink in. "Yes, she seeks her soul ... and will end up as one more skull in the collection!"
Her laugh is hysterical, and stands everyone's hairs on end. Then - suddenly - she is gone. Vanished. Even K'Nara and Ingrge can no longer see her.
Looking around, the group notices a large, severed werewolf head in the mud.
Olana is missing.

Growling at the disappearance of Amalee, Gunther spins. Olana...where was she?!! Spitting, the warrior kicks at the swamp water next to him. "I don't understand...I don't understand; vhy did she take her. I hate dis place!" Still flustered, Gunther grabs up the axe that he dropped earlier and shoves it in his backpack. "Let's go! Milo (AC 29; hp 60/79) Friday April 28th, 2006 12:17:51 AM
"NNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!" Milo howls in rage, looking around for something to kill. The halfling seems nearly feral as he sets about the task of beheading the werewolves. When that is done, the bloody halfling stands with short sword held low, "I'll kill every single one of them. Bring them on, for it is time to die." With that, he makes a quick change from his slippers of spider climb to his boots of speed, and stands ready, looking at K'nara with a vindictive gleam in his eye. He speaks through gritted teeth,"Time is wasting."
The Way to Go - DM Donna Friday April 28th, 2006 1:53:25 AM
K'Nara is absolutely flabbergasted--and quite livid--at the disappearance of Olana. Her eyes fall upon the charmed werewolf that is subject to Ingrge's will.
"Ingrge..." she says tersely, nodding towards the complacent lycanthrope, "...about how long will your...dog remain on its leash? Perhaps we can use it to track where Olana's been taken--IF you think it's safe enough to do so..."
Lian (AC 36 -2, hps 79) (non-detection, bulls strength, enlarge person, bears endurance, Blessed Hands) d20+8=26 Friday April 28th, 2006 7:31:15 AM
The monk isn't feeling too good about this whole fight. His concern is that this fight may have been a distraction from the start and that perhaps the diversion worked the way it was supposed to. "If Olana wasn't taken initially, wandered off, chances are they have her now. If she was taken during that fight, we must have missed something. A clue in the rules. A statement from a townsfolk. Something."
"The way Amalee disappeared... that was sort of strange. The light was odd when she vanished. What kind of spell could it have been?" He askes Ingrge. (Knowledge Arcana 26)
He is watching the werewolf with disgust and doubt as to how much help it'll be, even charmed.

Looking at his charmed Wolf Ingrge thinks a moment and then answers K'nara.
"Under normal circumstances, about one full day. Here? Who Knows. As to tracking, I can maybe get rundimentary ideas and suggestions across, tracking Olana might be a bit more than I can guarantee. Not to mention I expect that if it came right down to it, this fella's loyalty to Amalee might easily break my charm should it come to that kind of choice.
I believe that our best chance to find Olana, get her back and healed, and us home is to find the castle as quickly as possible. While not positive, I am fairly sure that she was taken there.
Bertram if you can heal any more of those injured, including yourself you probably should do so before we go. But, if you think you should keep some of your offensive spells then I have 5 cure light wounds potions and 7 cure serious wounds potions that we can use.

Hitting the Road - DM Donna Saturday April 29th, 2006 1:41:42 AM
The human blade singer turns her back to the charmed werewolf, shrugging.
"We won't ask it to do anything, then," she says almost diffidently, "At least that way we can be reasonably sure it won't turn on us." K'Nara then nods to the understandably-peeved Lian.
"Well, I'd say that Brother Bertram could use some healing as well, Lian, since you're offering." She waits for the healings to finish before insisting that everyone hurry up the road, in the direction of the Twilight Palace.

Ingrge Monday May 1st, 2006 5:14:34 PM
Looking around, Ingrge can't help but feel good about those he is with, even Milo. As Falin mouths his doubts, Ingrge turns to him. "Falin, This battle may have been mine and Bertram's to hold up, But I expect that the next will be yours and others to handle as both Brother Bertram and I are near depleted of spells. I know we need rest , but there is no time. Does anyone else need a jolt from Lian's wand or one of the potions for further healing? If so speak now, for we must be on our way. On To Twilight - DM Donna Monday May 1st, 2006 11:54:46 PM
"It's up to Ingrge to decide what to do with his...pet." K'Nara says firmly. "I don't like it hanging around either, but it's charmed now, and defenseless. Just killing it would be murder...and Talons don't commit murder." So saying, the tall chestnut-maned blade singer leads the way along the northeast road.
The entire group makes excellent time, and Ingrge's floating spy network doesn't detect the approach of any more wolfen foes.
Soon, looming on the horizon, a large, stately castle rises from the slight mist that clings here and there to the swampy ground.
The Twilight Palace, obviously.
It's a forbidding structure - tall, with stained glass windows lit from the inside. You can see those windows from miles away. They're like a beacon in this land of eternal twilight.
As the party draws closer, they can see that the castle is surrounded by a thick perimeter wall with a rather rusty gate--it looks simple enough to breech, yet the castle itself exudes an air of doom...
The gate has a rather large and obvious lock on it--but it's one that Milo is fairly certain he can pick with contemptuous ease...it's merely a question of whether the rust will allow the picks to move the tumblers...
(OOC: Milo must beat a DC12 to pick the lock on the gate...please post if there are other rolls/checks that any of the Talons wish to make.)
Gunther Tuesday May 2nd, 2006 12:21:05 AM

That Spoooooky Feeling - DM Donna Wednesday May 3rd, 2006 12:27:22 AM
Ingrge's Eyes circle nearer to the grim edifice that dominates the lavendar-lit landscape. The stonework appears ancient and...coated with something dark and rather lumpy in places. It's hard to tell in the off-color light.
Milo's careful probe for traps reveals none are in the gate. His tools help to push the tumblers, which creak and groan under protest but eventually fall into place. The lock clanks loudly--it's open.
Anyone pushing the gate open will need to make a Strength check versus DC15 due to the rust that effects the hinges. If anyone wants to make any other kind of checks, please state so in your post.

Well, I do not see how this could possibly be a safety zone as there doesn't appear to be anyone home. From the sould of that lock and the look of that gate, I would say no one has been here in years. There also seems to be a lot of black lumpy stuff on the walls. It's almost like this isn't real.
Milo d20+1=16 d20+15=22 d20+17=26 Wednesday May 3rd, 2006 11:09:46 PM
Despite the eerie quality of the scenery before him, cold rage shields Milo from feelings that would otherwise warn the canny halfling of present danger. Forcibly shoving at the gate, he opens it up for the rest of the group, and continues forward without a second glance, keeping his eyes out for traps and trouble. (OOC: Strength check DC 16 to open the gate. Spot DC 22, Listen DC 26. Taking 10 to Move Silently at full speed for a DC of 27 [+22 -5 to move at full speed +10])
Gunther d20+1=12 Wednesday May 3rd, 2006 11:11:21 PM
Sniffing the air uneasily, Gunther growls. "Miss K'nara...dis is not goot. Dis place is wrong...it smells wrong...it looks wrong... I don't tink ve should go in dis vay. It's too much like a trap." (Int.=12) Though doing his very best to put on an air of bravery, the sweat on his brow and the slight tremor in his hands testify to the cat trainer's true emotional state. Staring up at the gate before him, Gunther begins to seriously reconsider his decision to become an adventurer. Right about now, a life of tribal warfare and plundering in the Scab is beginning to look seriously tempting.
Falin Thursday May 4th, 2006 6:48:12 AM
Stepping up to the gate, Falin offers a silent prayer to whatever gods might be listening and steps through. He glances up looking at the palace as they enter through the front gate.
"Out of the pan, but into the fire." Falin says to no one in particular.

Feelings - DM Donna d20=3 Friday May 5th, 2006 12:51:40 AM
K'Nara frowns thoughtfully at the words of Ingrge and Gunther both. She looks like she's thinking VERY hard, but finally she sighs and shrugs. (OOC: her Intelligence check is 3. Oh well.)
"Ultimately, it doesn't matter whether the palace provides sanctuary or not--it's just that this is the likeliest place that Olana has been brought to...or, perhaps, the closest that we had hope of reaching in order to look." she says. "Let's press on and see if the hunch pays off...if not, perhaps we can find something that can leverage our way OUT of this place."
The human blade singer goes through the gate, Lucia clutched tightly in one hand.
As the Talons follow the winding pathway towards the palace, they can't help but be assailed by diametric emotions: this is a castle, a stronghold--it represents peace, shelter and a safe haven from things such as flying skulls and vampires and werewolves...and yet, for all that they are drawn to its implied safety, each of them can't help but shiver at the sudden paranoic feeling that they're being watched.
Maybe it's the oversized gargoyles leering down from the towers and parapets of the building--maybe it's the clouds of screeching bats that whirl about first one tower then another...
...maybe it's the fact that the huge, arching doorway to the castle appears to be quite solidly bricked up.
Even as this aura of doom surrounds the castle, it seems to invade the very souls of the party...suddenly there's an overwhelming conviction that trying to get Olana back is stupid...silly...she came here because she WANTED to be here--in fact, it's where you all want to be, too...
Everyone in the party must make a Will save versus DC18. Those who fail the Will save must roll an additional d20--no modifiers for this second roll. Odd results mean the PC becomes convinced that the entire party MUST go inside the building by any means and as quickly as possible, for only then will they be safe. Even results mean the PC will be convinced that to enter the Palace will seal the party's certain and horrible doom.
Falin d20+3=23 Friday May 5th, 2006 6:52:20 AM
Falin gets a feeling of dread, but shakes his head as if to clear it as he thinks about saving Olana.

"My conviction to save Olana from that place is greater than my sense to stay way. Personally, I think we need to turn the place upside-down until we find her..." He looks at the bricked up archway. "Um, I think another way in is likely though. Maybe a back door? Or maybe even those windows?"
(Spot 21, Search 20) He looks for other visible ways in.
Gunther d20+4=22 d20+2=19 Friday May 5th, 2006 10:27:23 AM
Gunther shudders as he enters the courtyard. This place was sooooo wrong. But then why did he have that feeling that he wants to be here?? Shaking his head fiercly (Will=22) Gunther growls in fierce whispers "Get out of my head!" The tremors in his hands becoming more pronounced, Gunther pokes around the exterior of the castle looking for another way in (Spot=19).
Brother Bertram d20+14=26 Friday May 5th, 2006 3:32:33 PM
Bertram falters as strange thoughts enter his head...It wasn't like it was his fault the silly elf got taken. Suddenly he realized what he was actually thinking and vanquished such thoughts from his head. "No", he whispers, once again remembering the stakes they played for was one of his true companions.

Looking at the casyle and watching a the others so casually walk into what could be a death trap Ingrge, starts feeling a bit antsy and starts getting irrationally irritated with Olana for getting us into this predicament in the first place. Darn foolish girl first goes and falls in love with a halfling and now this. Why should I even care about what happens to her now. I'm married now for Domi's sake. I have a wife to think about. See this is waht happens to the impulsive youths of today...Will save DC 33
Ingrge is on the verge of suggesting they should all just forget about Olana and leave, when his own words come back and slap him in the face.
"Milo, we will find Olana and return her to you and us. This I promise!"
Shaking himself free from the feeling of dread, The taciturn elf looks at the bricked up door closely. "
K'nara, Do we want in there? If so tell me and that brick wall will no longer be there."
Milo d20+10=25 Friday May 5th, 2006 7:29:21 PM
Milo growls off the dread compulsion of the surrounding area, "If not destroy the door, perhaps there is another way in. I can still spider climb. Either way is fine by me, just wanted to let you know we have options. Though simply destroying the door might leave us in better shape to fight afterward."
Panic - DM Donna d20+8=13 d6=4 Saturday May 6th, 2006 1:03:12 PM
K'Nara takes two more steps towards the castle with the oddly-sealed front door and then stops, her face turning as white as a sheet.
(OOC: K'Nara has failed her Will save with 13; her result roll is even (4).)
"We CAN'T go inside..!" the woman's cauled head shakes emphatically from side to side. "We'll all be slaughtered if we go! If Olana's in there, she's as good as dead!!!"
The leader of the Talons begins to back away, her eyes round with terror and shaking like a leaf.
Brother Bertram Saturday May 6th, 2006 4:39:55 PM
Bertram walks in front of K'nara and looks up into her terrified face. Grabbing her arms roughly he shakes her hard and barks in her face. "Grab hold of yourself girl! You are not some peasant girl, but K'nara, Leader of the Emerald Talons, and the Talons dont leave anyone behind! EVER! Now stand proud and quit cowering like a cur! He steps back and waits to see her reaction, while wondering in the back of his mind if K'nara would strike him before Gunther did.

Gunther is rocked to his core as K'nara breaks down. He had never seen the bladesinger vulnerable...not to mention frightened! As Bertram grabs K'nara by the shoulder, Gunther's face hardens. Pouncing toward the cleric, Gunther is about to make an impression on the thick dwarf's skull when suddenly everything is clear to him (Int.=21...nat. 20). It all makes so much sense...that tugging at his mind...no his spirit...it had a hold of K'nara somehow and that's why K'nara was suddenly so afraid. And the dwarf was, in his own way, just trying to help K'nara. Putting his scarred hands on top of Bertram's, Gunther loosens his hold on K'nara's shoulders. "Let me take care of her Broder." Gunther looks K'nara in the eyes, smiling reassuringly. "It's ok, Miss K'nara, I'm here. Ve have to go in dere. Miss Olana's in dere and ve're going to help her. It's ok. Ve're all here vith you. You're safe. Come vith us and it'll all be ok." (LOL...Diplomacy=6) Gunther looks over at Ingrge, acknowledging his comment, but wanting to try a gentler approach for now.

Snapping Outta It - DM Donna d20+10=28 Tuesday May 9th, 2006 10:23:55 AM
At first all Bertram can see in K'Nara's eyes is sheer terror. Then, even as she appears to blink away the mind-clouding emotion, Ingrge's spell goes off and Gunther comes forward to offer his own assistance. (OOC: Bertram's emotional appeal gave K'Nara an extra saving throw (and even an extra +2 motivational bonus!), and this time K'Nara has overcome the effect of the area upon her.)
The chestnut-maned blade singer looks from Gunther to Ingrge for a moment, then eyes the smoldering divot left in the brickwork that blocks the only visible portal. A deep divot--yet the ancient masonry still holds firm.
"I think I'd've rather you kept that for more werewolves, my friend..." K'Nara finally says, slowly but resolutely crossing the one-hundred or so feet that is still between the party and the palace. "It seems we have been tricked by a bit of an optical illusion..."
Below the bricked up normal castle door--hidden from view by the curvature of the ground at a distance--there seems to be a wide Underentrance about 60' across. That leads down and brazenly under the castle. Damp and briny, it beckons the brave and laughs at those who pretend bravery.
"Let's go see if Ingrge's 'knocking' got anyone's attention!" K'Nara says with grim determination as she strides forward, pulling Lucia from its scabbard on her back.
Ingrge: AC 33: HP122/122: Prying eyes(48), Misdirection, Non detection, boots of speed, see invisibility Tuesday May 9th, 2006 9:57:49 PM
Ingrge looks over at K'nara.
"Hmmph, you back with us now or do we need to call mommy?"
::Turning back toward the bricked up doorway.::
"That was the only way in that my "eyes" seemed to have found and in all honesty I felt the need to blast something. This place gives me the creeps and I want all residents to be aware I plan on frying anything that gets in our way."
Gunther Tuesday May 9th, 2006 10:54:26 PM
The warrior smiles, glad to see K'nara back to her senses. Flushing with anger over Ingrge's snide comment, Gunther briefly considers teaching the uppity mage a lesson. A quick glance at the smoldering brick wall convinces him, for the time being, to control his temper. There will be plenty of time once they get out of this place to bring the elf back in line...
Milo d20+15=21 Wednesday May 10th, 2006 1:42:57 AM
Satisfied that K'nara has regained her wits, Milo leads the group quickly down into the open passage, scanning hastily for possible traps as he descends. (OOC: Search DC 21)
Moving On - DM Donna Wednesday May 10th, 2006 10:06:18 AM
K'Nara, in a mature response to Ingrge's "mommy" comment, sticks her tongue out...however, she continues to move forward, though she does allow Milo to conduct his efficient means of trap-detecting.
Milo finds nothing but somewhat slimy lichen in the area--no traps that he can tell.
The Underentrance, once approached, gives a bit of a claustrophobic feeling (this in spite of the open broad staircase that leads down to the heavy, carved portals), but the double doors that are there do not appear to be locked...and (as previously stated) Milo has found no traps...yet.
Upon opening the doors, the entrance would appear to be a haven--a respite from the cold damp mists that congregate at the base of the castle. Air, warm and dry, wafts from a 20ft high tunnel, and a faint glow of light can be seen glowing in its depths; welcoming, beckoning - after the terrors of the surrounding swamps and plains, the tunnel offers shelter and warmth.
Strange, that a mind would regard the interior entrance with such benevolence, but then light and heat are such precious commodities in this particular realm.
A level path of rough-hewn stone leads inward, easily wide enough to accomodate three medium-sized adventurous souls, should they wish to walk side by side.

Well I believe one of you humans should go first as they said they would not kill one of you, but if you dnat want to go I will go forth.
Milo Wednesday May 10th, 2006 10:35:36 PM

Gunther d20+2=15 Thursday May 11th, 2006 12:56:05 AM
The warrior shudders as they head into the compound...into the belly of the beast, no doubt. Why was he doing this...surely only death lay within these walls...or something worse than death. The hair on the back of his neck standing on end, Gunther catches sight of K'nara...the faint light casting an almost angelic glow around her tight fitting armor and his mind begins to wander to more private thoughts. Oooooh yeah...that's why he's here. Two-bladed sword firmly in hand, Gunther takes up a position behind Milo. "I got your back Milo." Falin gives a bit of a grin as he continues forward into the passage.
