With the word from Xenia, the group at the gate expects to have some assistance coming soon. But, in the meantime, they will need to deal with the fey-creatures attacking them.
Nauthiz'Ull casts another Entangle spell to block another approach to the gate. He catches some of the fey-orcs but not all. There is also a narrow path left for them to come towards the gate.
Using another of his wands, Toros heals Appolo and then starts moving towards the gate, skirting the Entangle spell.
Holding the gate, Garrett chops down one of the fey-orcs and then turns to attack the one that hit him. But both of his swings miss the creature.
Appolo leans against the wall to catch his breath and then is invigorated when the healing magics course through him. He then sprints towards the gate, not bothering to detour around the area of the Entangle spell.m He gets partway through the spells area. DM JohnP - I'm interpreting that an Entangled area counts as Difficult Terrain for purposes of movement since it costs double. It's impossible to Run through Difficult Terrain so Appolo is halfway through as you indicated that he was going through the area.

It doesn't really matter because Appolo moves ahead and slices the fey-creature into two.
Nauthiz'Ull runs from the fey-kobolds and then dashes by the fey-orc. It swings at him when he passes but cannot hit. Fey-orc m misses AC 16
Meanwhile, Toros is racing for the entrance of the lair.
========================================
Fey-orc m runs towards Garrett only to be cut down by the Protector.
The three fey-kobolds turn tail and run towards the trees.
The three fey-orcs stuck in the Entangle spell keep struggling but cannot get free.
COMBAT END
All the foes are vanquished or fled, except for the three who remain stuck in the Entangle spell. If Appolo and Garrett choose, they can kill the helpless things.
Or, they might be better served by moving to the entrance. By now, any attempt at a stealthy entrance to the lair is futile.
Toros gets to the entrance in time to see the fight between the captives and the fey-creatures. It's a pitched battle but the size of the giants and the numbers finally carry the day. By the time everyone else gets there, there are no fey-creatures left standing.
The massive doorway looms dark and mysterious. Somewhere inside of there, Xenia is trying to make her way into the place where Gargalus is making the fey-creatures.

Garrett moves as quickly as he can towards the cave opening, making sure all are present and accounted for once we arrive there.

If everyone wants to go in, Garrett goes with. If people want to heal up first, Garrett begins supplementing peoples individual healings to save time.

Into the Lair They Go! (DM JohnP) Friday May 5th, 2006 8:36:12 AM Appolo, Garrett and Toros are about to enter the lair of the future god of Death. Presumably Nauthiz'Ull is tagging along behind.
Garrett suggests that everyone should get healed up before entering. If they can't heal themselves, the cleric of Domi will heal them.
DM JohnP - By my reckoning, here's the current hitpoint status of everyone. Use as much healing as desired, marking what spells or items are used.
After healing everyone, the party picks their way through the fallen bodies of the fey-creatures, orcs and goblins. The fey-creatures felled by Garrett's turning were unharmed and almost seemed peaceful, as if they had simply fallen asleep. But these bodies are torn and rent by weapons, or smashed by the giants until almost unrecognizable.
There are bodies on the wide stairs just inside the doors, too. After everyone climbs the stairs they can see more of the lair. It's exactly as Dreana had drawn. After an open area with looted weapon racks, a corridor is lined with cells. Four doors hang open and the final two cells still contain owlbears and ankhegs. Looking into the cells, the party can see that they've held large numbers of creatures for some time.
From somewhere ahead, the party can hear a commotion. Maybe from the two stairs just past the monster cages.
Xenia is hiding here, someplace, but she hasn't revealed herself yet.
By the conclusion of healing and exploration to this point, consider that 2 minutes (20 rounds) have elapsed for any running spells.
An older map that I had access to, will be updated. The party is now in the central corridor between the cages, just south of the stairs. Xenia is shown, but isn't really at that location.
Xenia's Voice Friday May 5th, 2006 3:48:11 PM "Bad news. Really bad news, Toros. Got more orkies coming up the stairs. Bigger and badder than the ones outside."
"They seen the cages open and they've gone downstairs to tell someone they call Da Boss. Get in here. I'm gonna follow and see what we're in for."

Entering the lair, the ranger finds himself a bit disgusted, a bit in awe and a lot on edge. he does everything to heighten his senses and block out the sounds that he knows is being made by his group. Then, he hears something up ahead. Wasting no time the ranger calls forth the strongest magics that he knows and infuses himself with the spirit of feline.
"Toros, where's Xenia? I do not want to accidentaly put a shaft in her."
A dark-tanned hand reaches for the simple looking quiver at his side and an arrow is produced.

Garrett moves toward where Xenia tells Toros we need to go. "Tell Xenia to be careful Toros, she shouldn't get in too deep. On the other hand, she will likely need to find that power source while we fight the rest of the compound. Let's get this done with before Gargalus himself shows up."
"And remember guys, when we get into melee, if you are standing within a few feet of me, I can deflect blows and make it harder for them to hit you. We may not have time for any more healing."

"I seen the Stone Power Thingy that he uses to make the Feys. I'll grab it once they're gone. But you gotta run. They're coming after you. Gargulas! They're coming to kill you. You gotta run."
Toros -addition Monday May 8th, 2006 11:16:25 AM
Hearing the voice of Xenia this time does no good to the wemic: "...They are coming to kill you, you gotta run..."
The wemic quickly turns to Appolo, Garrett, and Nauth to tell the bad news:
"Guys, Xenia says Gargulus is here, and coming to kill us. We gotta run. Xenia will grab the Fey item when everyone is gone. We gotta run to save our lives and make Gargulus and his minions chase us to give Xenia a chance. Come on, lets go!!"
Then Toros tries to lead his friends back to the entrance as fast as he can, praying they still have enough time. If they can make it outside they should have more chance.
In the Lair (DM JohnP) Monday May 8th, 2006 2:12:48 PM
After healing, the party looks about at the lair of the future god. Doesn't seem too impressive really. Especially since it currently reeks of blood and the dung of caged monsters.
The party advances through the first area of the lair until they come close to the monster cages. The owlbears and ankhegs clack their beaks, claws and mandibles at the foursome. It might just be that the battle has excited the monsters. Or it might be that the smell of blood has stoked their appetites. Or maybe, just maybe, they're imploring the party to let them go.
The party can now better see the throne room ahead of them. That room is dominated by a large stone throne raised up a dais. There doesn't seem to be any decoration there. But something ... or things ... is moving about up there.
Just then, while they're deliberating all of this, a loud voice echoes up the stairs to either side of the party.
"NO! NO!"
"GOTHMA BE LOYAL!"
"GOTHMA BASH FOR YOU!"
"DON'T CHANGE GOTHMA!"
The voice sounds like that of a very large man, possibly a giant like you saw fighting outside the lair entrance. Despite the echoing distortions, it's easy to hear the fear in the voice. What would cause such fear in a creature so fearsome and feebleminded?
"NOOOOOooooooo ...!"
Just then a yell echoes up the stairs, then is abruptly cut off. The silence that follows is stunning. Even the unintelligent ankhegs and owlbears are silent. Then the things in the throne room start clapping, the sounds of their mirth echoing about the room.
Toros perks up when he receives a message from Xenia. He immediately urges everyone to run from the lair, leaving Xenia to her fate.
Garrett Monday May 8th, 2006 3:58:29 PM
"With Gargalus himself and all his minions on alert, she isn't likely to get out of here after we leave Toros. If we stay and fight him here, then she has the diversion necessary to grab it and run back to Oshirr House. That stone is the only thing that matters. It must get to Alemi. What say the rest of you?."
Toros Monday May 8th, 2006 4:24:48 PM
Xenia herself told us to leave, Garrett, and I have thought he has some good reason for that. LEts draw whatever is after us to open field so that she may have chance to grap the item.
Then Toros hears that fearful sound and the silence after, which makes him join too. **Stunning silence for a second, as if long enough for an hour...**
Appolo Monday May 8th, 2006 5:04:03 PM
Appolo smiles wickedly"We stay and fight.Like you said we got to give her a chance and she has no chance by herself.Besides I owe gargul one.Everyone hide.Remember Gargalus is the objective. We take him down the others will break and run or at least stop and reorganize."
Loooking around"Ok so do we fight inside or outside?"
Garrett Monday May 8th, 2006 5:39:12 PM
"We cannot take him down. remember what we do now affects the future, and he is in it. We cannot destroy him, or risk upsetting everything we know. Our job will be to keep him busy long enough for Xenia to get the stone, and then all get the hell out of here. But let's take this outside. If we battle in here, it will be harder for Xenia to sneak out."

Gargalus Arrives (DM JohnP) Tuesday May 9th, 2006 10:23:54 PM
The foursome are still standing near the monster cages where they were when Toros received the message from Xenia warning them of the approach of Gargalus. Well, at least three of them are. Nauthiz'Ull did not want to do battle with his future god so he ran back towards the entrance of the lair.
Toros had also argued for flight but both Garrett and Appolo convinced him that they needed to provide a diversion for Xenia.
The ankhegs and owlbears start moving to the rear of their cages. Gargalus must be approaching and they creatures have learned to fear the future god.
The trio don't have to wait long before they see some fey-creatures in the throne room. Then a tall human man dressed in a robe appears from behind the throne. The human ascends the dais and seats himself on the throne. Garrett and Toros can see him make a negligent wave of his hand as he ascends the dais. It looked like Gargalus ... and this is obviously the future god ... cast a spell but with less effort than usually required.
Spellcraft DC 20 - Highlight to display spoiler: {Quickened Spell Resistance}
Gargalus speaks once he is seated on the throne. His voice echoes through the entire lair, presumably some magical effect of the throne.
"Welcome! Come closer! I want to see who Alemi sent to challenge me in my lair."
"Evidently you have made short work of the minions I sent to Oshirr House last night. And of the ones who made it back here to the compound. But did you and Alemi really think that you could challenge me in my lair? Really?"
"Alemi does this again and again. The old man is nothing but predictable, you know. He recruits some group of innocents and convinces them to do his work. Did you stop to think why he didn't dare to come here himself? It's obvious, of course."
"He and I are too much alike, after all. he burdens himself with these moral codes and time praying to the Gods. He thinks small and limits himself. I don't limit myself that way. I've made the most of myself. Alemi knows that directly challenging me would result in his death. So he sends minions like you to die in his place."
"But I'm growing weary of this. It interrupts my work, after all. I'm prepared to give you a chance to live. Here's your choices."
"One - Turn and run, like your companion who just left. His actions may be wise or cowardly, or both. If you run, you can take a message to Alemi for me. And you'll always remember that you ran from the greatest task you ever faced."
"Two - Fight some of my creatures. I want to see how they perform against somewhat challenging opponents. Defeat them and you can leave with your heads high and filled with pride."
"Three - Stay and serve me. I sometimes need some assistants who are smarter than the average orc."
"So, what do you choose? What fate do you want to grasp?"
Garrett Wednesday May 10th, 2006 9:20:06 AM
Garrett thinks quickly to himself. Fighting Gargalus is bad, but we need to give Xenia time. Running is not an option.
Garrett looks to Toros and Appolo. "I think option two is the best at this point." Unless someone objects, Garrett responds to Gargalus "Let us see if you have minions more challenging than the orc and kobold fodder you throw around. I am interested to see what other monstrosities you have created. Let us do this outside though If you want them to have a real challenge. Things are too limited in a small cave."
Garrett turns toward Toros and mouths the words "tell Xenia."
Garrett (supplemental) Wednesday May 10th, 2006 9:22:38 AM
"We will defeat your creatures Gargalus. And then we'll leave and give your message to Alemi."
Toros Wednesday May 10th, 2006 9:51:50 AM
For a moment Toros thinks to look like being in the side of Gargalus would be the best diversion. But then... He quickly makes up his mind and talks:
"I think our friend has said what is needed to be said. Lets fight with your monsters outside."
Then with a quick pause, Toros contiunes:
"And the fourth person of us did not run away because he was afraid of you, but because he has chosen not to harm you, we have not intended to kill anyone afterall unless we are being attacked. You came first to our castle... However, you are right that afterall it is all between you and Alemi, which is not muxh of our business. However we all will be happy to challenge your new monsters for some good practice, especially having seen already those miserable of yours... And then who knows one day we can learn to respect each other."
Toros - addition Wednesday May 10th, 2006 9:57:23 AM
If he does not cause others to wonder or worry, Toros himself wonders how he has come up with such talk. He tries to catch the reaction of Gargalus and his friends.
And there is still time before talking to Xenia.

Nauthiz'Ull [addendum] Wednesday May 10th, 2006 1:32:14 PM
His head cocks to the side as a very strange string of sounds echoes in his cerebrum.
"...your God invites us for a challenge with his monsters..."
Now that is indeed a precarious notion. How could the one who is going to be my savior sitting in there now asking us to test him creations? This is beyond absurdity.
He stops in the shadows and returns to the lair as quick as possible, head held high and proud with a look of indifference set upon his face.

Talking with Gargalus (DM JohnP) Wednesday May 10th, 2006 11:24:07 PM
The party presents a variety of responses to Gargalus' offer.
Garrett and Toros agree to fight, but want to do so outside. Appolo seems to agree to the same.
Meanwhile, Nauthiz'Ull is outside wondering where everyone else is. Then he gets a message about returning to fight inside. He is on his way back in when he runs into Appolo heading out.
After listening to their arguments and insults, Gargalus chuckles lightly.
"Can't make up your minds, can you? Inside, outside. Run, hide or stand and fight. Alemi always manages to find people like you but, unfortunately, never anyone with a lick of sense. Or politeness, either."
"Why don't you ..."
Gargalus doesn't finish what he was going to say because a screaming alarm starts sounding throughout the lair.
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Gargalus cocks his head and looks towards Garrett and Toros, the only ones that he can see at the moment. A smirk comes across his face.
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
"Well, it seems that the other half of your group has announced itself. Classic strategy, rather. Create a diversion while part of your group sneaks in to retrieve whatever you have been sent to fetch. So you sneakthief tried to get the Feystone, did they? I hope they're careful with it. It being part of Eberyon's nature, it can be tricky. Yes it can."
The alarm keeps screaming, getting on everyone's nerves.
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
"So, I'm assuming that you're in communication with the other half of your party. Why don't you tell them to make themselves known and join our little party. It would be interesting to see how my pets deal with backstabbing rogues."
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
"I really wish that you would. Because then I can turn off that alarm."
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
"Or else I can simply send some of my pets to deal with them, then have them come back here to deal with you."
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
"What do you choose to do? Maybe, to interest you, I'll show you what you have to fight."
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Gargalus makes a motion with one hand. Toros and Garrett hear a cage door swinging open. After a moment, what looks to be a large halfling steps in front of the throne. It's taller than any of you, at least as tall as Garrett when he's imbued with righteous might. The giant fey-halfling grins evilly down at the party. When it speaks, though, the voice is that of a normal halfling.
"Want to come and play with me and my brothers?"
And the alarm keeps screaming.
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Xenia's Voice Wednesday May 10th, 2006 11:54:33 PM

Garrett Thursday May 11th, 2006 9:01:53 AM
Active spells: Shield of faith, +3ac, 52 rounds remaining. Greater Magic weapon: +2 enhancement to longsword, Duration: 9 hours.
A slight smile forms at the corner of his mouth as the alarm begins to go off, and garrett sees that Gargalus realizes that he was duped by the "classic strategy". Garrett then ignores the issue of Xenia, counting on the rougue to find a way out.
"You don't seem all too concerned that we have your feystone. Are you overconfident, or do you not really need it anymore?" Garrett asks Gargalus, also trying to buy a little more time for Xenia.
"And we would be glad to kill your aberrations for you. Let's do it outside though, it's too loud in here."
Garrett waits for Gargalus' response, and then heads outside to prepare for the battle. All the while hoping Xenia makes it out and gets back to Oshirr house with the feystone.
Toros Thursday May 11th, 2006 8:40:22 PM
Hearing that strange alarm and listening the comments of Gargalus is quite disturbing for Toros until he hears the relieving message from Xenia.
He walks next to Garrett to the gate to meet with Nauth and Appolo.
In response to the giant halfling and his boss, Toros says...
"OK, all of us, lets meet outside then."
Nauthiz'Ull Thursday May 11th, 2006 10:28:41 PM
The ranger stop sin his tracks at the sight of Appolo. A look of confussion crosses his face but he shrugs when Toros shows up as well.
"Outside, yes, that sounds perfect. I feel much more at home in the open."
The look of inner turmoil is rolling through his face, into his chest and slamming into his heart. He knows that he will not draw on Gargul himselm, but if his future lord wishes him to be a test for his new minions, well, that is quite fine with him.
DM Note (JohnP) Friday May 12th, 2006 12:25:52 PM
Hi all
I'm off to a conference in Chicago for a week. While I'm away, I'll be plotting about what minions Gargalus sends to capture Xenia and planning battle tactics for those mysterious giant fey-halflings that have been revealed.
I will make the next DM post a week from today.
Don't be surprised if you see some roleplay posts in the interim. However, I can't count on being able to spend enough time at an Internet Cafe.
So, remember ... use this time to plot your strategy. And decide what funeral service you want if Gargalus' minions are too powerful. Of course, you could always run.
The Villain's Response (DM JohnP) Friday May 19th, 2006 10:55:55 PM
Gargalus laughs at those who respond to him. All the while, the alarm continues to scream.
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
"That toy? It has been useful, yes it has. But I'm sure that I have now created what will be my masterpieces! I didn't want to have to go outside, but if you insist, we can do so."
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
The future god waves a hand and his stone throne lifts slightly into the air and hovers. Another nonchalant gesture causes several low rumblings. The source is revealed in a moment when more of the giant fey-halflings show themselves.
"Let us go outside then. Are you going to try to run away with your tails between your legs? Or do I have to pen you in?"
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Gargalus remains seated on his hovering stone throne while the party moves out. It could be moving silently or maybe the party simply can't hear anything over the screaming of the alarm.
"By the way, are you going to tell your thieves to come out so I can turn off that infernal alarm. Or do I have to have them hunted down?"
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
When they advance far enough, the party sees that four of the giant fey-halflings are following them out. Another five or six remain with the bugbears and ankhegs.
