The Worm crawls in

DM Kelly - When the worm turns  d20+25=44 2d8(2+3)+12=17 d20+40=55 d20=7
Friday April 28th, 2006 7:03:05 PM

Everyone jumps from the back of the remorhaz, awaiting the worm's entrance as it turns back on itself.

Airin screams for the Fey Stone, wanting to use it to defeat the worm. She also encourages Gilan to dig upwards, afraid she and the others will be buried in a collapsing tunnel.

Peerimus casts a spell on the four magically conjured wolves.

Bralin flys through the air, and swinging his axe cuts deeply into the pointy end of the worm (AC 19).

Tishe casts haste on those who are close, leaving Bralin out of the spell.

Kendry sings, holding his daggers close. His singing inspires courage in all who hear, save the worm.

Gilan decides to burrow towards the surface, and does so faster than the worm.

Podo takes position directly behind Gilan, a decision that proves to be dangerous.

The worm senses that there are many in the tunnel that follow after him. He has been cut deeply, and wants to feed upon those who dare enter his tunnel. One however is larger than the rest, and so is clearly the leader. The worm turns upon itself, timing his entry into the tunnel to grab the tail end of the remorhaz. Yet the remorhaz speeds up, moving much faster than anticipated.

A small creature though steps behind the remorhaz right as the worm crashes through the wall. Teeth and a gaping mouth are all Podo can see as he looks behind him. Lunging forward, the worm attacks. He grabs hold of Podo, biting down hard (Podo takes 17 HP bite damage). He holds on (grapples Podo 55) and Podo feels himself drawn towards the throat of the creature.

The worm also attempt to sting Bralin, but does not know where he is. He makes a blind attempt at stabbing him with his stinger. (misses)

OOC: Everyone let me know of your position on the grid.

Bralin (ac26, hp 96/96, Bulls Strength[2/30], Inspired, Fly, Pwr Attk[5])  d20+13=14 d20+8=26 d10+16=21
Saturday April 29th, 2006 7:55:04 PM

Bralin ducks under the unseeing attack of the stinger. The worm cannot see him, thus the barb is less dangerous.

The warrior decides to put more weight into his blow...and swings just as the worm speeds up. Frowning, he swings again. This time he does not miss.

[Atk1 - Nat 1 - miss

Peerimus AC 22 HP 68  d20+14=25 2d6(2+4)+7=13

Exercise over then he thinks and Podo is in serious trouble, but it does occupy the
worm and will allow Bralin to really beat on the hind section
.

To provide more assistance, though, Peerimus moves forward with the wolves. The druid sends the
4 wolves around the bend to Bralin and stays to help Podo. "Hang on friend."
The druid swings once with his enhanced staff connecting hard. [Hit AC 25 dmg 13]

Airin [AC29 - HP 60/60 - Mage Armor]
Sunday April 30th, 2006 12:30:03 PM

Airin's eyes grow wide as they see the Worm snatching Podo. Shooting through this tunnel would be too dangerous. Better to try other things.

Again she looks at Kendry requesting the Fey Stone. There are powers in there unknown to us and perhaps a simple druid can use them to destroy this Fey Worm...

Should Kendry give her the Stone Airin perpares to grab it with both hands and whispers to kendry :" shoudl anything go wrong, knock that stone out of my hands or give me a good push..."

Once the stone is in her hands she concentrates on the Purple Worm and think on how the fey soul entered it's body... she visualises that same Fey soul meaving the Worm exactly the way it came...

[not sure what I would have to roll for something like this]

Gilan [wildshape: remorhaz, longstrider, darkvision][burrow 30']
Sunday April 30th, 2006 4:12:55 PM

Gilan can hear the battle behind him but he has a job to do. If he can break to the surface and then the rest can get back up, they could face the worm on open ground and more to their advantage.

So he keeps digging hoping that the others can hold out without him for at least awhile longer.

[longstrider - 17 hours]

Podo D. Danderfluff (AC 23; 43/60hp)
Sunday April 30th, 2006 8:36:42 PM

In the mouth of the worm, and not very happy about it, Podo recalls that a minute a two ago, Kendry asked him about borrowing a pouch of the Dust of Dryness. With this in mind, Podo will reach into his belt pouch for the last packet of Dust of Dryness and sprinkle the dust all over the inside of the Worms mouth hoping for a good enough reaction which might allow Podo to jump to safety.

Kendry
Monday May 1st, 2006 2:27:33 AM

Kendry fears what may happen should he accede to Airin's request for the fey stone. The poor creature whose soul was transmigrated is gone. What if Airin were to venture what she proposes, and, rather than - whatever she tries to do, instead her soul gets mixed up in the whole process? Or she takes the souls of one of the others here in the tunnel, by mistake?

What if, instead, it works? What if she somehow, by blind luck, or canny manipulation, or unexpected miracle, succeeds?

He was afraid, earlier, to let her go, and fly ahead of the group. But her decision saved them all.

All these thoughts flash through his mind in an instant. Against his better judgment, Kendry drops his daggers into his haversack as he grabs the sacks wrapped round the stone, and hands it over to her.

From the heart in tenor clear sings he:
Take care, oh care,
Beloved mine
Someday may our souls entwine
But now cast out the noble soul
From monstrous beast
In dark wormhole.
He nocks arrow in bow and prays to the one to whom all will one day give answer. To whom even Gargul must give account. Whoever that one might be.

DM Kelly - Worm Round 2  d6=3 d20+20=37 2d6(3+5)+6=14 d6=2 d20+25=38 2d8(7+7)+12=26 d20+40=55
Monday May 1st, 2006 4:20:04 PM

Bralin's axe once again bites into the worm, leaving another large gash on it tail end. Wolves race by the head, running forward to help Bralin.

Peerimus whacks the worm on the head, leaving a large dent.

Podo does something that surprises the worm. Never before has it tasted anything so bitter as to pull the very moisture from his mouth. The worm spits, and Podo flies toward the opposite wall of the tunnel. He hits hard, and dirt collapes around him (3 HP damage).

Airin cries for the Fey Stone again, and Kendry decides to trust in Airin. Taking out the stone, he hands the wrapped in sacks to Airin. She begins to unwrap the stone, but Kendry wrapped it safely in many layers. Finally the stone shows itself, glinting from the cloth sack in which it sits.

Gilan decides he must make a path to the surface, and he digs forward at a quickened pace.

The worms have always had dominian beneath the surface, and yet he finds that he is hard pressed by many small creatures. The remorhaz which should have been the main threat is retreating, and some small creature is wounding the worm from behind. The tiny bad tasting one is not a bother anymore, but the one who bites from behind must be stopped. Burrowing to make the circle tighter, the worm curves toward Bralin and the wolves.

Now he can see, the one who cuts is small and flies. Quickly, the worm lunges his stinger towards the dwarf. Piercing through Bralin's defenses, the stinger sinks into his flesh. (14 HP damage, Roll Fortitude DC 25 or take 2 off strength this round).

Yet even though he has pierced the dwarf, the worm is again deflected from his plan. Now wolves are in the way. He lunges toward one wolf and bites deeply into it (26 HP damage and begins to swallow the creature).

The worm is wounded, yet does not seem to be slowed by the damage inflicted.

(OOC: Wonder what happened to my post on Sunday...)

Momentarily frightened into immobility for a few seconds, Tishe' is mightily relieved that Podo was able to get out of the monster's mouth. Vowing to never freeze up again, she digs her hand into her satchel. "Wart! I need green scroll!" The desert toad obeidiently places a green ribboned scroll in his mistresses hand.

Activating the scroll and controlling the magic within (casting above level:15), the Summon Monster IV calls forth a Celestial Lion next to Bralin. The golden feline roars and immediately pounces!

Claws raking, the lion gets a good hold on wormy flesh (AC29, 7 damage) and rakes its rear claws (AC20, 6 damage) in a disemboweling movement that does little more than squish purple stuff between its toes.

The speedy Tishe' (haste) then casts a self protection spell. She has a feeling she's going to need the extra armor. (Mage ArmoR)

Kendry takes a five foot step forward and fires an arrow, but it's a terrible shot (nat 1) - and flies into the ethereal plane, to boot! He fires a second arrow (d20+11(not +8)=25), and it manages to penetrate the tough skin for 8+3=11 damage. His last arrow (d20+16(not+13)=20) does 11+3=14 hp damage. [Total 25 hp damage this round.]

To himself he thinks, "Doggerel!"

He is stressed thinking about what Airin attempts, and what harm the worm might do to his friends.

Airin [AC29 - HP 60/60 - Mage Armor]
Tuesday May 2nd, 2006 4:36:24 AM

Inspired by Kendry's song Airin now gazes at the shiny stone... her heart pounds rapidly but something needs to stop that worm...

Gracefully she strides towards the worm passing some of her friends and with her bare hands she takes the stone in both hands raising it in front of her face...

"Claim the soul from that worm the way it was given to him..."

She attempts to visualise the soul leaving the body of the worm exactly the way she has seen Gargul doing it... she has witnessed the power of the Fey stone before when she witnessed the rebirth of Eberyon in her beloved Crescent Valley. She knows how powerfull it must be... hopefully she can managed such power.

"FOR THE LOVE OF NATURE AND MY FRIENDS ... TAKE THE SOUL AND THE LIFE OF THAT PURPLE WORM!!!"

Tuesday May 2nd, 2006 8:30:28 AM

Bralin grunts as the stinger scrapes along his arm. Fortunately, his dwarven constitution is able to fight off the poison, for now. [Fort 29]

He sees the worm cut into the earth to tighten the circle. The warrior grimaces. He should have anticipated that tactic. Now, crowded with summoned creatures, it appears too late to escape. So be it.

Bralin shifts his grip, swinging his axe back to keep the stinger away. [Combat Expertise] Mayhap his additional concentration on his weapon has other benefits, as he connects twice on the shredded rear portion of the foe.

DM Kelly - post coming

OOC: I was going to do an early post and decided that it would not be good until a few more people posted. Therefore, since I leave now to go camping for a night, post is delayed until tomorrow. Sorry

Podo D. Danderfluff (AC 23; 40/60hp)
Tuesday May 2nd, 2006 12:29:05 PM

Podo, lying in a mound of dirt, decides to spend a round using his Wholeness of Body skill. Concentrating, Podo recovers 18 points of damage bringing his total back up to 58 hit points for the day.

Afterwards, he raises his head out of the dirt, to get some fresh tunnel air.

Gilan [wildshape: remorhaz, longstrider, darkvision][burrow 30']
Tuesday May 2nd, 2006 12:49:00 PM

Gilan, in remorhaz form, continues to tunnel up towards the surface. He is muttering to himself all the time that he is digging, though it sounds like hisses and growls to the others. He knows that he has to get back down there but he also knows that he must dig this tunnel. That worm could very well bring the tunnel down upon them if they are not careful, in fact if they succeed in killing it...dying it might just do that.

[longstrider - 17 hours]

DM Kelly - The worm crawls in, will you crawl out?
Wednesday May 3rd, 2006 5:59:29 PM

The assault of the purple worm intensifies, and it looks to be terribly wounded. Attacks come from too many directions, and the worm senses it may be impossible to defeat these foes. Never before did it care, it wasn't until this day that it cared about anything but eating. Now it wants to live, to gain revenge on those who prevent monsters from gaining souls.

Peerimus strikes the head region, and causes much damage. Tishe calls forth a Celestial Lion, perhaps just in time as the worm has decided the wolves do not matter. Kendry after handing the stone to Airin shoots arrows, two of which sink deeply into the worm. Bralin continues his attack, and again sinks his axe deeply into the worm. Podo heals himself while Gilan burrows toward the surface. He can tell he is close, as the soil is not nearly as hard.

Airin grabs the Fey Stone, and concentrates. At first, the stone glows and starts to suck the life energy from Airin. She drops to her knees, and Kendry is almost ready to knock the stone from her grasp. Then the energy reverses, and Airin gains energy. She is pulling energy from a very strong source. She feels more powerful that she ever dreamed she could. Yet she does not seek power, and with every fiber of her will she directs the energy towards the worm. She calls forth his soul, she demands his soul. A flash of energy from the stone moves towards the worm, and soon a small glowing source of energy is pulled from the creature.

The worm convulses and dies, its body quivers and shakes, causing the tunnel to weaken. Bralin is caught between the head and tail along with 3 wolves and a lion. The passage is blocked both directions with the dead worm.

Airin Highlight to display spoiler: { You hear a faint "Thanks" that you can tell comes from the spirit of the sprite whose soul was stolen. You also feel great power, and know that you can rise to the power of a god if you use the stone. None could stand in your way.}

Tishe' (AC 23 HP 56/56)
Thursday May 4th, 2006 12:13:01 AM

With the enemy dead, and not being a very good burrowing animal, Tishe' allows the Celestial Lion to return to from whence he was summoned. "Go and with my thanks, noble one", she tells it in Celestial.

She then turns to see if Airin is OK, but it looks like the diminutive druid is covered by a very attentive Kendry (I'm assuming) and so turns to another problem. "Bralin?", she calls, "Can you hear us? I can pick a tunnel under the 'worm and then you can get out that way. That is if you don't already have a plan?"

The plain-faced woman moves to the entrance of the tunnel that Gilan/remorahz dug, and glances at Peerimus. "I think a summoned Thoqqua could dig a tunnel rather quickly. Do you have a different approach?"

Kendry
Thursday May 4th, 2006 1:29:47 AM

"Airin!" Kendry shouts as his beloved sinks down. He drops his bow and the next arrow he had just pulled from his quiver. He kneels beside her - not touching her yet, lest he spoil her concentration. Then he sees her rise with strength. And stands in awe as the play of energy passes between the glowing stone and the purple worm.

Seeing the worm enter its death throes, the halfling steps back to pick up the bags dropped behind. He brings them forward to Airin, and quietly opens the double bag before her, so that she can return the stone, should she so choose. If she does so, he returns the bags with enclosed stone to his bag. "Well done, I think?" he says, with the question in his voice asking for confirmation.

He then recovers his bow and arrow.

"Gilan, we'll need your help to get out of here," Kendry whispers to their wild-shaping companion via the effects of the message spell. "The worm is dead - and blocking our way. The tunnel is unstable. And come down before you break the surface, if you can. We don't want to come up where the army is marching."

Airin
Thursday May 4th, 2006 5:17:05 AM

POWER! Such overwhelming and intoxicating power!! More powerfull than any Woldian God!
With such power available she can become invincible...

The faint "thanks" from the Fey Spirit that leaves the Purple worm brings Airin back with her feet on the ground and she realises this Fey Stone is not meant for her to use for her own benefit.

Watchign Kendry opening the bags to store the stone once again she let's the Fey Stone slip from her fingers into the bags... slowly she loosens her grip... tempted to keep the stone... such immense power at the tip of her fingers... no... let it go dear Airin...

At last the stone dissapears in the bags.

Dazzled by what happend and breathing heavily Airin stares bewildered into Kendry's eyes... a single tear rolling down her cheek... finally she tries to get a grip on the situation and realises they need to get out of here fast. She runs with the others...

Gilan [wildshape: remorhaz, longstrider, darkvision][burrow 30']
Thursday May 4th, 2006 12:45:28 PM

Knowing that he is just about to reach the surface he is elated and then the call comes. He pauses for a few seconds as his brain registers the call of that of Kendry and then he slowly turns, starting back down the tunnel that he has created.

Not having to dig as he goes allows him to move faster and then he comes to a wall in the tunnel. He feels it with his front claws and then tastes. No not a wall in the normal sense...this is a purple worm wall. He suddenly realizes that the great beast died and then fell across the entrance.

"This bites grass." Though it does not come out that well and there is noone around to hear the talking remorhaz, Gilan does use a Plains curse. With the same determination that he used to make the tunnel he slams into the worm and starts to dig a new path...this time through flesh not dirt.

This was my impression from the post anyways. If I am wrong then Gilan will just start digging to rejoin the two tunnels.

Peerimus AC 22 HP 68
Thursday May 4th, 2006 12:54:20 PM

The worm moves by and cloese towards Bralin and then in a sudden convulsion dies. A convulsion that coincided witha cry from Airin and then Kendry. Peerimus deactivates his boots as he turns to take in the interaction. What he observes adds a darkness to his eye and his mood. Almost so that Tishe's adress to him goes unanswered. Almost. "Hm?" he turns his darker compextion towards the plain brown haired woman. "No I would go that route as well a Thoqqua." But his eyes quickly return to Airin.

Peerimus then calls over the worm, "A tunnel is on the way Bralin." A pause and then to help lighten his own mood though he is almost sure the dwarf will see nothing in it, Peerimus adds, "Just stay there." A silent thanks to Father, Peerimus dismisses the wolves.

But, Peerimus calls that aid comes. And so Bralin waits. He nods in silent appreciation of the druid's last comment.

DM Kelly - Purple slime
Thursday May 4th, 2006 9:29:13 PM

Bralin decides to wait, and soon enough help comes. Tishe offers to summon a Thoqqua, yet Kendry calls for Gilan's assistance. Gilan burrows back through the worm, purple slime and material that looks like ground up yellow maggots spatters the tunnel walls.

There is enough room now that Bralin can join the group, and everyone can crawl through the worm guts to make it into Gilan's new tunnel. He was within 30 feet of the surface when Kendry called him back. Bralin figures that they are much less than half way to the Oshirr House.

With reluctance, Airin drops the Fey Stone into the bags. Yet it calls to her. The source of power was great, much greater than that of the spirit in the worm or the worm itself.

The tunnel now seems to be failing, soil falls from the roof sporadically.

OOC: Haste ends

The brown-haired spellweaver raises her hands to cast a summoning spell when Gilan arrives. "Well, no need for that pick!" she says out loud. She greets Gilan/rehmoraz and Bralin with casual disregard for all the worm guts and stomach contents that are about, and crawls through with equal aplomb.

On the far side, she moves up behind Gilan/remorahz and waits for him to break the surface. "We need to get out, for the tunnel is going. And what are the chances to come up directly in the army's path?" she laughs at the thought and then has to spit out a bit of worm that got into her open mouth.

Kendry
Thursday May 4th, 2006 11:41:49 PM

"You're right, Tishe'," Kendry says. "Glad to see that you're not too tasty, there, Pode. Good work, everyone. Anybody hurt bad?" He picks up his sunrod. "All right, Galin - lead us to the light!"

He takes Airin by the hand as they follow behind Galin's huge body. "What was it like, Airin?"

Airin
Friday May 5th, 2006 8:18:55 AM

As in a dream Airin feels Kendry taking her hand and leading her behind Gilan. She still feels the pulating power of the Fey stone racing through her body... like she felt a second heartbeat of something much bigger than her... such immense power...

This stone could destroy Gargul's army instantaniously, but it is not hers to use. Still... it could...

She can not speak just yet and wobbles behind Kendry. It's good that he's here... Airin needs his guidance... she needs his love...

That Fey Stone may have destoyed the worm but she does not know yet what it did to her.

Peerimus
Friday May 5th, 2006 2:30:52 PM

Peerimus falls into the last position of the group moving up the tunnel being dug by Gilan. What Airin seemed to experience with the Stone concerned him. What would Alemi or Domi do with such power in thier hands, or Mother. Would any be able to resist? Gargul had not, perhaps Father had not been able to as well, depending on his link in the story. Peerimus suspected that the more powerful one was, the harder great power was to resist.

Gilan [wildshape: remorhaz, longstrider, darkvision][burrow 30']  d20+12=15 d20+12=32
Friday May 5th, 2006 11:52:42 PM

Gilan turns and takes the lead for the group. He rushes back up the tunnel that he just cleared, not seeming to care about guts or anything else as he moves. As he pulls back up to the spot where he left off he once again turns into a digging machine.

As he digs and near the surface his pace slows a little as he tries to gauge the distance so that he stops at about five feet from breaking through. At this point he will wait for a few seconds and then break through in one great stride.

His head will instantly start turning to take in his surrounding and to see if anything is around that he should be worried about. This of course leaves the better half of his body blocking the way for others to get out.

Bralin
Saturday May 6th, 2006 4:21:18 PM

Bralin nods once to Gilan's form as it emerges from the worm, and then follows it back out. The gore covering him from head to foot doesn't appear to concern him, although his does spend a few moments wiping off his axe blade as best he can.

There is little time, and the warrior heads up the sloping tunnel to get to the surface.

Kendry
Saturday May 6th, 2006 4:23:22 PM

Noting the rather dazed look in Airin's eyes, Kendry does not press her to speak now. Through the message spell, he communicates to all his companions, "Let's not follow Gilan too closely, until he gives the all clear. Gilan, if it's safe, then make that chittering sound you can make three times in a row."

Following his own advice, he waits with Airin toward the bottom (about 20' up it) of the separate tunnel dug by Gilan the remorhaz.

DM Kelly - Light of day
Saturday May 6th, 2006 4:36:35 PM

The worm is dead and the walls are unstable. Gilan, in remorhaz form digs upward. Soon the roots of trees are seen in the walls of the tunnel. Gilan pauses and then suddenly pushes his head and torso up out of the ground. Looking around, he can see that he is in a forested area. The trees look similar to those that you moved through to get to Gargul's compound. As you twist around, the trees to the Southeast show signs of heavy damage from hail.

All is quiet, no creatures move in the forest.

You are at the edge of the woods near the words 'Monster Santuary' on the map.

Kim to group & DM Kelly - Hero Point nominations [any others?]
Saturday May 6th, 2006 10:52:16 PM

[OOC: I'd like nominate Airin for a hero point. She did something that placed her at personal risk (using the Fey Stone!), and her actions took out the huge monster earlier than it otherwise might have died, and freed the soul of the sprite, as well. I think her actions encompass the spirit and the letter of hero point worthiness. Come to think of it, I also nominate her for a 2nd hero point for going it alone, sneaking into Gargul's very lair, and taking steps to restore life to the rest of us. So, that's at least two hero points I think Airin has earned.

Also for Gilan, transforming into the remorhaz, chasing the worm, and clearing a path to our safety, deserves a nomination.

Any other recommendations? We can consider actions from the start of the adventure to the present.

OOC over - Kim]

Kendry

Kendry waits for some signal from Gilan. If the freshly dug remorhaz tunnel is getting dicey, the halfling guides Airin a bit further up the path.

DM Kelly - Hero points
Saturday May 6th, 2006 11:17:26 PM

OOC: Thanks Kim for the hero point post. I am new to this whole thing, and even though I have been given a hero point, I have never given them out. I wasn't really sure of the process. Hopefully, the game will conclude soon (which in real time might take awhile), and we need to think this stuff out. So yes, please everyone give your feedback.

A side note, I was just contacted about a free two week trip to Italy. It is for Humanities teachers at my college, but they had a cancellation and asked me to go on short notice. I am trying to contact AdamS to cover the game. I won't know for sure until tomorrow (Sunday).

Oh, and I read some interesting archive posts from the DMBoard from Inge and Kim regarding purple worms. How prophetic.

Kim - another OOC
Sunday May 7th, 2006 5:56:35 AM

I think that was Kim & Adam (hi, busy Adam!) discussing purple worms - and the effectiveness of paprika against them.

For hero points, Kelly, they can be awarded instantly by a DM (if you agree with a nomination, or even if no one nominates, but you think the action is worthy of one). That is especially helpful in a game such as this, in that, if you wait until the Tap's over, hero points, really, are of no worth.

Jerry has discussed this on the DM's discussion board (especially the 'reward on the spot' notion), and elsewhere (if memory serves me correctly). More discussion of hero points can be found at http://www.woldiangames.com/constabulary/combat_rules.htm. Just search for 'Hero Points' on that page.

They can be especially useful if things get real dicey. Like, if Peerimus swallows the Fey Stone whole. ;-)

Hey... That might earn him a hero point!

I agree that Airin should get a Hero Point for her work.

Unfortuneately, Hero Points arent awarded or used in Tap Games.

Our characters were granted 5 hero points to start with. If they were granted for this lengthy module, why can they not be used, or awarded? -Kim
Oh. I didn't know that since i came in in the middle of the module. Don't mind me, I'll be in the corner humming to myself.... :)

DM Kelly - Final battle?
Sunday May 7th, 2006 11:11:38 PM

OOC: Okay, I am going to fast forward things a bit here. As you may have heard, I leave for Italy tomorrow for two weeks. I just found out yesterday, so wasn't able to plan well for a sub. Adam is busy this week, but may pick it up next week. If not, then I guess we wait until I get back.

Okay, back to the story:
Everyone crawls out the hole that Gilan in remorhaz form made. The tunnel holds, and the light of the sun is welcomed by all.

Tishe casts a spell upon Bralin, who looks something like a large bumble bee flying into the sky. He has to go high, and soon he can see the army. The march down the roads, and are near the intersection of the road that leads to the front of the Oshirr House. It looks like they plan to march right up to the front door. A bold move that will probably be prepared for.

Bralin is ready to descend, when he sees a large shape leaving the mountain top above Gargul's fortress. Straining his eyes, he is suddenly shocked. The sun glints off of the creature, and flashes of red light reflect off the scales.

It is a large red dragon, and it flies to the North. Apparently the army is a decoy, the real threat is the dragon who looks to approach from the North side of the fortress. The same side you defended the night before.

Bralin judges the movement rate of the army of monsters, and it appears to be moving slowly (20' rate). The dragon looks to time his entrance after the army has arrived at the front gate.

If you hurry, it looks like you could move around the army, and arrive at the East side before the army gets there.

OOC: Okay, so you have a red dragon to battle. Take time to come up with a plan. No encounters between here and the Oshirr house. You need to move at least at 30' rate to beat the army there. Keep posting between yourselves and look for a DM post eventually.

Kendry
Monday May 8th, 2006 12:41:18 AM

Kendry makes sure he recovers his everburning torch. When Bralin reveals the results of his aerial reconnaisance, Kendry asks, "Gilan, can you remain in your present form, and let us ride along to Oshirr House? Chitter twice if yes, once if no." If twice it is, he suggests, "Then let us mount, ride, warn and prepare."

As before, he ties down where he may, assists whom he can, and rides the amazing remorhaz.

Unless others have a better suggestion.

Since Tishe' thinks that Kendry's suggestion has merit, she uses the time to sluice off some of the purple worm guts that are all over her clothes, and prepares to ride Gilan/remorahz to Oshirr House.

"A red dragon! Gargulus wouldn't have failed to put a strong soul in the dragon, and so it will be even more powerful! We are definitely going to need a plan. My summoned creatures aren't going to be able to do much other than harrass the dragon, but maybe able to occupy it for a minute or two."

Airin
Monday May 8th, 2006 4:33:53 AM

The cool wind strokes Airin's face gently and soon she recovers her wits. The terror from the tunnel is gone, but the thought of the Fey Stone is still with her...

Looking around she notices all are staring towards Gargul's castle so she looks as well... then she spots it... a magnificent Red Dragon!! What can kill such a powerfull creature!!

"We need to get back to the Oshir House! We will need to hustle... Maybe some can slow this dragon, and I can throw a few lightning bolts at it, but not enough to kill it!"

"... use the fey stone ... use the fey stone ... " a soothing voice says in her head, but she doubts she would be strong enough to take the soul from that dragon!

Gilan [wildshape: remorhaz, longstrider, darkvision]
Monday May 8th, 2006 2:49:53 PM

Gilan turns his great bulky head to look at Kendry and shrills twice to the young halfling and then in a strange voice, laden with part hisses he speaks. "That works but this form of communication would be better." The look upon his face right now is suppose to be a smile but it would not come off that way. Who wants to see a huge creature smiling at you with rows of teeth.

He waits for everyone to crawl back on his back and then he will take off at a nice clip. He will circle around the army as he batters his own brain for ways to take on a dragon. His first thought is that they will need to ground it first. Once again the hissing voice is heard from Gilan. "First priority is to ground it...not let it use one of it's most potent weapons...flight." Then all the must worry about is that flaming breathe or at least that is the next thing he thinks of.

Peerimus  d20+21=33
Monday May 8th, 2006 5:05:02 PM

Peerimus emerges last and takes a brief look about to get his bearings. [survival 33] With Bralin flying up, there is not much to do but wait for the report and to see how fast they would have to travel. Ewwwww The thought of trying to slow a dragon was bad enough, but actually stop one. Well beyond his skill and capabilities. "There is little I could do to a dragon on the ground or in the air."

"I do have a single energy protection spell to help shield from the flame. My other best option would be in summoning aireial attackers. Elementals, Arrowhawks and the like." Peerimus keeps to himself that he is incapable of calling any aid from Father that stood a chance of hurting a dragon the size of which Bralin has mentioned.

DM.Drew [sub] - A Fire in the Sky
Tuesday May 9th, 2006 12:31:56 AM

The group realizes that there was little time before; now it is vital they return to Oshirr House immediately. Knowing very well that the fey army is just another pawn in Gargul's game, there is a heavily sighed acknowledgment that the group's task is the red dragon. The group mixes over several thoughts and emotions while Kendry helps the others onto the back of Gilan the Remorhaz.

The gigantic, scaly body of Gilan races across the lands back towards the Oshirr House, carefully swinging east and trying to beat the advancing army. Podo trots alongside the bareback crew and the Remorhaz, questioning them on whether or not he should dash ahead to warn the others. Would they have enough people to handle the army and the dragon anyways?

There is also the discussion of battle tactics prompted by Tishe' and the effectiveness of her servants. A plan to rend one of the most powerful advantages the red dragon has is proposed by Gilan and seconded by Bralin; incapacitate the wings, ground it and destroy! Peerimus hopes that he can find some way to help the others in defeating the dragon. His magics are near exhausted and what remains will most likely prove ineffective against the dragon anyways. He does, however, offer protection to someone from the inevitable flaming breath of what is now a larger red dot glinting in the sun above the mountains near Gargul's lair.

Airin listens intently to the others but is drawn deeper into her thoughts and the voices. Use the fey stone... The taste of power lingers on her tongue.

Kendry
Tuesday May 9th, 2006 3:14:17 AM

Once Gilan develops a rhythm and Kendry grows accustomed to it, he takes a few moments to go through his haversack, bags, pockets, reviewing his inventory, thinking about what resources he might have to bring to the battle.

Podo asks about running on ahead. He doesn't know too many people who can run as fast as his cousin. He takes some things and places them in a bag - a scroll, the tapestry, some notes he jots down. He ties a loop of rope securely around the top of the bag, and fashions a loop sized for a halfling to sling it over the shoulder. He tells Podo, "Here, take this to Oshirr House. I don't know whether it will help or not, but show the scroll to Alemi. Warn them so they can start to prepare." He tosses down the roped bag to Podo, and encourages him. "Run, Podo, run! Quick as the wind!"

Airin
Tuesday May 9th, 2006 9:55:19 AM

Time to run!

Airin forces her mind back on the business and prepares to run with her friends back to the Oshirs House. There they will consider how to win from this dragon ... not to forget Gargul's goons...

Peerimus
Tuesday May 9th, 2006 10:56:27 AM

"I do have an idea that may work to land the Dragon. Dire Bats. It is a relatively simple spell that Airin, Tishe and I can all cast in abundance still. I have the ability to grow 16 of them magically. It would enhnace thier strength size and grant supernatural protection. If we were to send 16 Huge Dire Bats at the the dragon?" he leaves the question for the others to shime in on.

"The downside is the duration. We would need to use larger spells to keep the bats around long enough to be effective. Does anyone have an Extend rod? Tishe Airin, any 4th or higher spells we could use?"

Podo also exlains,"Sir Alemi, there is a large army of monsters approaching this compound from the south side, but its a decoy! There is an even larger threat flying towards us from the North! A great Red Dragon! Gargul expects that this house will fall without this information...I hope the contents will help you and all of us turn the tides of this newest battle for the good of all the Wold!" Gilan [wildshape: remorhaz, longstrider, darkvision]
Tuesday May 9th, 2006 10:49:26 PM

From over his shoulder Gilan calls out to those on his back. "I have one of those rods...but it will do little good right now." His body convulses a little as he laughs and he hopes that he does not throw any passengers.

As they move he nods his head in understanding of the situation. "I have spells that will enhance defense, speed and the like but nothing overly offensive in nature...I doubt a dragon would be turned into something different." He goes through some of the other forms that he has at his disposal and wonders if any will help against a dragon.

DM.Drew [sub] - A Fire in the Sky
Tuesday May 9th, 2006 11:30:10 PM

The group is closing in on the Oshirr with great pace yet finds themselves vastly distanced by Podo. He has gone ahead to deliver a package put together by Kendry; the rest sit uneasily upon the back of Gilan the Remorhaz. All can see the rear of the fey army advancing and luckily their arrogance gives them no reason to check behind them. The walls of the compound grow larger on the horizon but you all know your arrival to be a ways off.

Gilan mentions having one such rod that Peerimus requested and the thought of trying to dig for it now almost throws the group off of his back. There is still some discussion as to what needs to be done to take down and neutralize the dragon; Peerimus raises a plan thats surface is simplistic but the theory is of great strength. He looks to the others who harness magical powers for confirmation or a better plan.

Podo Highlight to display spoiler: { You reach the outer walls of the Oshirr House and Alemi's compound and after a quick debate the students allow admittance. Alemi sees you once word is delivered and you meet him back at the wartable. There are a few others in the room, most likely Alemi's generals and they stare up at you as you enter.

Alemi holds a face of indifference as you speak and makes no attempt to interrupt you during. A slight frown etches the corner of his lips and a faint clicking sound creeps from his mouth. He unties the makeshift bag and looks amongst its contents. He reads the note that your cousin, Kendry, scribbled and then unfolds the tapestry. Within the folds lies the Fey Stone and he nods as if agreeing with the freshly read note.

"A decoy you say? A red dragon? Hmm, this is indeed a dilemma but I have no choices now. The army is too close now to allow for a rearrangement of troops. You and the others are the only hope that we have. You must get the dragon to the north wall, away from the majority of our troops and take it down." The last statement rings with the tone of a command. His eyes are level at you, his face reveals no emotion. "Oshirr House needs you friend; your company cannot fail its charge. Please, get ready for what will prove an epic battle and please let your friends know this is my request."

As the words of Alemi set in about the upcoming battle a general rushes into the room and approaches Alemi. He leans in and whispers hastily into his ear. The leader's eyebrows raise in alarm, much like they did with your words, and his gaze falls back upon you.

"My friend, time is of the utmost importance. Get your friends to the north wall and prepare. I have faith you and your friends; you helped us before and I need that help again."
}

All except for Podo please make a spot check (DC 20) Highlight to display spoiler: {Looking towards the skies you cannot seem to spot the red dragon anywhere. After a moment of searching however, you catch a glimpse of it ascending to quite a high height. It is to the north of you now but there is no way to tell where it is heading.}

Airin rides the remorhaz towards the Oshir House. Knowing that if all else will fail there is something else to use... it keeps hauting her mind...

Peerimus maintains his visual upwards towards the dragon during the conversation and thus does not lose it as it climbs. "It may have seen us and know enough about adventurers to have become weary" he commnets on the dragons ascent.

"I have 2 growth spells and two more on scroll. OK so a pair of rods should allow us to call for aid that will stay for 12-18 rounds, depending on who uses the rods. That should be more than enough."

Peerimus slides off Gilan, being able to keep pace on his own and not particularly liking the group target they make. Peerimus stays about 15' right of the Remorhaz as they move to the Oshire House. "Soon as we arrive we might need to start our call for aid brother and Daughters." Peerimus then smiles at Airin, "Dear Daughter, your two spells will be most welcome and could call forth 4 Dire Bats for our fight. Do not so dismiss your skill and talents."

Asking the guards if there is a tower or other long distance viewing booth. "I'm looking for my comrades. Has anyone seen them or their trail?" asks Podo to the gate attendees.

Gilan [wildshape: remorhaz, longstrider, darkvision]  d20+10=16
Wednesday May 10th, 2006 9:15:37 PM

Gilan rumbles low in his throat as he travels along, part of it is laugh and the other part is zeal for the battle. "When we get there...I will change back and get that rod out...from there I will do what I can." He does not know how much of a chance they will have against a dragon but he will give it a try that is for sure.

Even though he does scan the skies he does not notice the dragon anymore. But he will leave that to others as he keeps his eyes on the road before him.

Kendry
Wednesday May 10th, 2006 11:16:31 PM

Kendry rides on Gilan with his companions, coming closer to Oshirr House once again.

DM.Drew [sub] - A Fire in the Sky
Thursday May 11th, 2006 1:07:14 AM

The group seems to be settling in to some semblance of a battle plan for the dragon. It seems to some that maybe the dragon is weary to head face such seasoned adventurers as yourselves. Peerimus is working through the best way to maximize his magic for the day as several of his prepared spells, as he knows very well, will prove ineffective against a red dragon.

Time begins to crawl as you make your way around the fey army's eastern flank. Some of the troops spot you and a few overzealous kobolds start to break off after you; they, however, are quickly pushed back into the ranks of the main army by generals with spears. The sight of a remorhaz scurrying past the army is most perplexing to Gargul's army but none dare attempt to engage the beast. Could this be the sign of greater discipline and more intelligence or are they not breaking ranks out of shear fear of their master?

You have entered the area where Oshirr House is setteled, between Frostbite Peak and Ice Mountain, and can see a series of flags flying from within the compound. There are some who scurry about along the tops of the walls making final preparations; mostly students.

Gilan the Remorhaz informs you that he will retrieve the rod and decide on a better suited shape for the upcoming battle. His throaty voice rumbles up through his dermis and jostles the rider's organs.

Podo Highlight to display spoiler: { You arrive at the main gate and ask if your cousin and companions have shown. One of the guards, most likely under twenty replies in a somewhat shaky voice, "Umm, sir there is a giant beast of some kind approaching. I have never seen the likes of it before. Maybe your friends did not make it? I will bring you to the lookout if you wish." Making your way up a wooden ladder near the front gate you can see out all the way to the Valley of Dawn. On any other day the sight would warm to the soul. Today, however, you see Gilan the Remorhaz scuttling across the soon-to-be battlefield with companions riding or in tow.
After a moment of watching a student races up the ladder yelling,
"PODO! Master Danderfluff?"
He stops a few feet from you and nods to himself, most likely in assurance.
"This sir is from Master Alemi. He needs you to make a decision quickly so that I can return with the news."
His chest rises and falls in deep, heavy gasps and a shaky arm extends with a rolled piece of parchment. It reads:
Master Danderfluff,
I have thought on the matters at hand and I need you to decide which way you think will be best suited for your group. The dragon, I am afraid, my students cannot handle. I have already asked you to deal with this problem but I need to know how you plan on doing this. Will you try to fight it from the North wall itself? Or will you and your companions head out into the field between the North wall and Ice Mountain? I feel that if you were out in the field and you defeated the Red that is coming that you could then swing to one of the flanks and help tear down Gargul's minions.
What say you sir?
--Alemi

The student waits there still gasping for breath; his hands are upon his knees for a moment until he realizes that you are done reading and hastily regains his composure.
"What shall I tell Master Alemi, Master Danderfluff?"
}

Please make a spot check (DC18) Highlight to display spoiler: { You can see the Red swinging readily in the air some hundred yards northeast of you. It appears to be staying along the mountain range and attempting to remain inconspicuous, most likely until the army has arrived.}

Peerimus moves alongside of Gilan "let's get to the north wall. I lost the dragon I'm embarrassed to say, Anyone see it. We'll want the bats up and grown before he shows up."

Looking to Bralin, "I don't know if the spell would even matter. We are talking about a dragon here. But our best arcane long range blasting mage should probably get it." Peerimus looks at the group, "Does anyone even qualify to that?"

Bralin  d20+8=21
Thursday May 11th, 2006 8:21:36 PM

Bralin looks closer at Peerimus. The druid seems unusually pessimistic.

"E'en a wyrm can die," he offers. "And e'en if we but delay it, that may be enough for Alemi and Domi to emerge victorious."

The dwarf looks out into the sky, and sees the dragon. He points out the spot, only a hundred yards to the northeast, to his comrades.
"It seeks to hide and await its allies. We should attack before it is ready."

He gives Peerimus another look.
"Tis our destiny."

Gilan [wildshape: remorhaz, longstrider, darkvision]  d20+10=26 d20+10=19
Thursday May 11th, 2006 11:51:34 PM

Gilan moves in the direction of the wall that Peerimus points out as he once again searches the sky. He had found the dragon trying to hide among the clouds and mountains as well. "Seems he will wait...we may need to taket he fight to him." He really does not like the sounds of that but knows that they may have little choice.

When he finally reaches the wall he will let the others off his back and then change back to his human form. He can now feel the dried worm guts upon him but he does not seem to care that much. Stretching a little he puts a pack down on the ground and pulls out a rod from inside of it. "That extend rod that was asked for." He cannot hide the smile or the flash that lights up his eyes as he awaits the beginning of battle. "I have a spell that will allow me to control the winds...I maybe able to force the dragon to the ground as well, but it will hurt our own fliers as well." It is just a thought that he throws out as he shakes himself lookse for what is to come.

DM.Drew [sub] - A Fire in the Sky
Friday May 12th, 2006 1:07:07 AM

The group, obviously well seasoned veterans, has lost sight of the Red as their minds momentarily wander elsewhere; Bralin, however, picks up the Red's movements to the Northeast. He watches as the Red picks up speed and heads over to the west while holding tight along the mountain line. He points out the majestic yet immensely deadly creature to the rest as Peerimus begins to loose hope in the magical firepower of the group. Tishe' sits atop Gilan still and wonders how her companion is doing. Thoughts scatter about but the group knows its business quite well; maybe a brief distraction or a thought of home is needed to sharpen the mind of battle.

Bralin talks of destiny for a moment, trying to reassure Peerimus of the upcoming blitzkrieg. His words encourage engagement as soon as possible but the Red is still too far out of reach. No matter where each of the companion's thoughts may lie, his final words, though intended to comfort Peerimus, rings heavily in your ears.

"'Tis our destiny."

Your approach is announced by a few shouts and a bell being wrung. The path seems to melt away under Gilan the Remorhaz' feet and the main gates begin to open. You see a lone figure walking out and the gates closing behind him; it's Podo. His quickened step brings meets you half way and a determined look crosses his face.

Gilan releases the form of the Remorhaz and digs out the rod that will prove valuable to the casters; flakes of dried mucus, blood and who-knows-what-else begins to crack from his clothes. He mentions the idea of using his powers over nature to ground the beast as well but admits that it will hinder their original plan involving the dire bats. Another idea into the pot could never hurt whilst preparing for war though, could it?

Airin
Friday May 12th, 2006 7:27:15 AM

Uncertain about what is to come next, Airin observes Podo wondering why they gates to the Oshirr House are closed. Weren't we supposed to help defending this friggin' place?

She feels helpless against the fearful thought to fight a dragon within the next few minutes but this is what she came here to do... although they didn't speak of a dragon at all...

Tishe' (AC 23 HP 56/56)
Friday May 12th, 2006 3:21:51 PM

Thankful for Bralin's sharp eyes, Tishe' focuses her mind and watches the dragon.

"If the army is coming up the road in the south, the dragon will time his arrival in the north. Let's get to the north side of the wall and be at the treeline for a little concealment and to keep freedom from the walls. I'll bet Gargulus won't expect anyone defending Oshirr House who are outside the walls!"

"We will have to hurry to be hidden before the army comes."

Peerimus hurries towards the trees to the north of Oshire House, "Excellent idea Tishe, and the trees will also help those on the ground dodge the Dragons breath should he make a pass.

Gilan [longstrider]
Saturday May 13th, 2006 12:42:48 AM

Gilan listens to the others as they talk and then nods his head. Turning to Peerimus he once again nods. "I have use of an animal growth spell as well." With another smile that shows canines that are more pronounced that in any human he laughs. "I can also allow two people to walk on air for a nice span of time." As he moves to the treeline to make his own presence disappear he adds in little tidbits here and there. "I will also need to know who will be needing my enhancements to armor as well and I can increase a few people's strength if they feel the need to join a melee combat." His eyes sparkle as he talks of what he can and cannot do for the upcoming fight. This could be the last day of his life here, he could very well die again...but it is turning out to be a lot of fun.

Kendry  d20+8=28
Sunday May 14th, 2006 3:50:36 AM

Some of us are going to die Kendry thinks to himself. A dragon sent by Gargul himself will be no pushover. Many of the group's resources are expended. Options, and time, are limited.

But this is no time for pessimism.

"Gilan, yes, I should like to be able to walk on the very air, itself." [Knowledge (arcana): 28 (nat 20) - I figure he knows how it works.] He accompanies all to the edge of the trees. If Gilan has cast the spell upon him, he goes to a point about 2/3rds of the way toward the top of the trees, two or three tall trees in. He tries to find a spot where he'll be able to skirt around the trunk if need be to gain some shielding should a dragon try to breathe on him.

"I have a wand which will allow up to three people to levitate. I can make two people invisible for four minutes each. Two people - bear's endurance (+4 constitution). Two people - cat's grace (+4 dex)."

He does not want to apply the effects too soon - but neither does he wish to wait until it is too late.

Bralin
Sunday May 14th, 2006 5:43:29 PM

"I would gratefully accept enhancments to my armor (Barkskin), strength (Bulls Strength), and endurance (Bears Endurance)," Bralin states plainly.

He moves with the others to the tree line, and pulls out his axe.

This will be hard.

Podo D. Danderfluff (AC 23; 58/60hp)
Sunday May 14th, 2006 8:50:06 PM

Upon reaching his friends, Podo retells exactly what transpired between Alemi and himself, word for word, least there be any misunderstanding.Podo beings retelling the scene..."

I have faith in you and your friends; you helped us before and I need that help again."

"Now you guys know exactly what I know...I think we should head for the North wall." explains Podo to his friends.

Airin
Monday May 15th, 2006 10:13:19 AM

"Well looks like we're in for some real nasty trouble... Any magical boosts will help. What plan is the final one? Shall we summon a little army of ourselves? Do we have magical arrows? Maybe a lot of sleep arrows? I understand that Dragon will be really tough, but it can not withstand everything now can it..."

Airin browses throug her backpack looking for interesting stuff to use.

"Say, can we enlarge a tanglefoot bag? Would that be usefull against a Dragon? Maybe a number of Tanglefoot bags... Love, I know you enjoy throwing those sticky bags too."

DM.Drew [sub] -- A Fire in the Sky
Monday May 15th, 2006 12:32:33 PM

As a group you receive Podo's recounting of his encounter with Alemi; it sounds as though he is all business now. Alemi's request is as tall as they come but most know that this is, although not fathomed at first, the reason why they came here; they are to save Oshirr House no matter the costs. The Red, unaccounted for by Alemi and Domi, is the pivotal point on which success hangs.

Airin struggles with an inner feeling of uncertainty and fear at first; she slowly works against this and begins rummaging through her bag for any creative solutions to the fight which is upon the group's doorstep.

Airin's feeling are also shared by Gilan, Kendry and Bralin. The havoc that a dragon can cause surpasses immense and climbs straight to devastating. Some will be lost, most likely, according to the thoughts of a few.

The quick snippets of pessimism, however, are vanquished by the necessity of preparation. Gilan offers Mother's magics to whoever needs it while Kendry offers the use of his wands to help make the group airborne. As the talk of magic usage continues, Airin calls for one solid plan that all will follow. No matter the mindset each of you understands the urgency in the matter of settling on something.

Bralin requests all the magic that can be spared. As he finishes listing the different effects that he wishes bestowed upon him his eyes once again catch sight of the Red. This time, unfortunately, he sees carnage incarnate. Instead of back, tail and wings he looks upon the face of red Death. The dragon just banked sharply and is tightening in upon itself in order to increase velocity. There is a loud wail that reverberates through the ground, from the heavens, and into your feet
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
There will be a map coming tonight or tomorrow. You are at the treeline, over 500' North of the walls of Oshirr House. The Red is about 700' to the West of you and closing in.

Tomorrow we move to battle rounds as I do not have the map done yet.

Gilan [longstrider, greater magic fang, bull's strength, barkskin, freedom of movement]
Monday May 15th, 2006 1:18:15 PM

Gilan listens with an apt ear as he begins to circle among his fellow pack. He finds that channeling this much of Mother's power is quite euphoric. In the time given to him he tries to get all the spells in place. "That will be the most that I can do at this time." He has given out as much help as possible to those around him. "I could use that cat's grace if noone is in greater need." He waits to see how the others are going to handle the rest as he has a few extra spells to use...when the time is right.

Peerimus  d4+1=5
Monday May 15th, 2006 4:00:53 PM

Podo is approaching and Peerimus places Protectio From Fire on himself, "I am goin gto be in the thick."
As Podo relays the tale of his meeting it is hard to miss the anger on Peerimus' face when the Fey stone comes up as been handed to Alemi

The druid looks to the sky, an edge of anger still in his voice "He is closing fast we have little time, like 6 seconds or so. Gilan the Rod please."

Taking the Extend Rod in Hand Peerimus begins a slow muttering in an old and forgotten language to most. A call for Aid from a power the druid of the dark southern jungles calls Father.
Six seconds later 5 Dire Bats appear about him.
[Cast SNA IV Extend Rod duration 18 rounds]

"Gilan I will give you my 2 scrolls with Animal Growth. Next Round I am going to shift to a Dire Bat myself. Use one of the scrolls or your spell to grow me and 3 others. All of us who can whould then move to engage the dragon. While we do so, Gilan, Tishe, Airin keep summoning Bats and with the growth spells send them in. As a Bat I will be able to direct them once they arrive."

Just as quickly, he disappears.

Kendry (AC 22; HP 76; air walk; cat's grace; bear's endurance; invisibility; longstrider; good hope; inspire courage)
Tuesday May 16th, 2006 12:45:47 AM

"So, he wants us to defend the north wall?" Kendry says, reflecting what Podo reported about Alemi's words. "So what are we doing heading to the forest? The dragon can attack the Oshirr House and not bother with us if we don't get there. We go inside, NOW."

Inside the courtyard, Kendry casts a message spell to include all his companions and the student who lead the catapult crews a few days ago. In response to Airin's suggestion concerning tanglefoot bags, Kendry says he has six of them, five acid flasks, six thunderstones. "What if we put those in a catapult, and hit the dragon? I have two scrolls of protection from chaos. A scroll of touch of idiocy.

"Airin, I have twenty cold iron arrows you can use if you want. A dragon is a fey creature, no?" he asks. "My bow does not need them."

Kendry goes with his companions to the Oshirr House, and ascends to the battlements of the north wall.

If someone has a mage armor or shield spell, Kendry happily will receive it.

Once there, just as the army draws near the walls, perhaps a minute or less before they attack, he casts spells to help himself and his companions.

Kendry receives from Gilan the air walk spell.
Kendry gives to...
Before all split up (include all PCs & the student catapult leader in this), he casts Good Hope [Each affected creature gains a +2 morale bonus on saving throws, attack rolls, ability checks, skill checks, and weapon damage rolls. Lasts 90 rounds.]
Podo: Levitate (40 rounds)
Airin: Levitate (40 rounds), cat's grace (+4 dex) (40 rounds), bear's endurance (+4 con) (40 rounds) and a quick kiss.
Bralin: Bear's endurance (+4 con) (40 rounds)
Peerimus: Cat's grace (+4 dex) (40 rounds)
Self: Cat's grace; bear's endurance; invisibility

"We need to spread out along the wall, some in the air, bats in the belfry, some on the roof, some hiding behind the battlements. If we group together, a dragon can damage us all at once. So we spread wide, right?

"If I were a dragon, facing us, I'd take a sweep right along the length of the wall. Be prepared to dive into the protection of the towers - there are turrets at each corner, and one in the middle. There're the three stairways. Let's protect ourselves, each other, and the House. Alemi and Domi will be busy with Gargul, I'd wager."

Then he adds, with a lopsided grin, "And please forgive me my warbling in advance."

Kendry now touches a tattoo (longstrider), begins to climb up in the air, above the armory, ascending to 80 or 90 feet.

And as he climbs, he begins to sing.
Heroes of now, and of yore
Face we most uncommon foe
So muster we our sinews, hearts
And face the dragon, play our parts
All allies who hear his voice (including students defending the Oshirr House) benefit from inspire courage (+2 on attacks, +2 damage, +2 vs fear, +2 vs charm).

Airin [AC29 - HP80/80 - Levitate - Cat's Grace - Bear's Endurance - Mage Armor]  d20+27=35
Tuesday May 16th, 2006 10:33:52 AM

"Yes Kendry. You've used the Catapults before. Let's throw all our tanglefoot bags and acid flasks in it and use it on the dragon. We'll only have one chance to use it, but all options that can stall this dragon are good. Hurry toss everything in there and asks that crew to fire the catapult when you say so... aim well dear."

Airin tosses two tanglefoot bags with the 6 Kendry has. Those along with the acid flasks and the tunderstones that Dragon will get one hell of a warm welcome...

Just before Kendry levitates Airin tells him she plans to go out and hide in the field. Let the Dragon pass, and once he begins his attack on the Oshit House Airin will attack it from behind. If only she had a fly spell or the airwalk spells instead of the levitate...

Then she uses the levitate and decends from the Oshir House. Goes out into the field, find some good cover, and waits...

Kendry, supplementary

Kendry offers 4 of his 6 tanglefoot bags, 4 of his 5 acid flasks, 2 of his 6 thunderstones for the catapult, per Airin's suggestion. He holds the few in reserve to keep some options open.

He takes some of his silk rope, and begins to knot some loops of varying sizes. Through one of the loops, he ties the end of a tanglefoot bag.

Seeing everyone getting ready, Podo does likewise.
Podo stretches and gets his gear ready for a big fight...Podo moves 10 feet to the left of the group to be ready to tumble if need be. Podo also moves to his pouch, the last pouch of Dust of Dryness just as well as moving his sling and sling bullets to a closer position about his belt.

Everyone,
I cannot appologize enough about missing two days of posting. My mother called me today informing me that she had quite an ear-ache. I went into town as my dad was unavaiable and brought her to the med center [that was a wait-and-a-half]. She was put on antibiodics, etc and on the way home her eardrum ruptured, which meant more time on the phone with the doctors and doing whatever I could for me mum.
Needless to say things have taken me away from my computer.

Take care of your mum. We can wait. Hope she receives good care.

Besides, it gives our characters time to hyperventilate. :-)

[OOC: I'd like to repeat my nomination of Airin for at least 1 hero point, if not 2. Had it not been for her bravery and resourcefulness, we would all be deader than a doornail. Jerry has often said he will grant hero points in the middle of a module - sometimes right in the midst of combat.]

{ OOC: Consider it done. Airin is hereby granted one hero point for outstanding bravery ... against all odds. }

I may fail to post sometimes this week. Kim, maybe you can post for Airin?

{ OOC: Adam to Inge: I'm sorry to hear it. I hope you recover quickly. 'Keep up your fluids and get plenty of rest' (I can hear my mother's voice right now). :-) }
