Death Under the Sun

Dark Circle - Round 01 (DM/Al)  d20+20=32 d100=1 4d6(6+5+1+1)=13 6d8(7+5+6+7+5+7)=37 10d8(6+4+2+5+2+7+5+3+4+3)=41
Tuesday May 2nd, 2006 9:21:57 PM

The Children of Chaos make last minute preparations in the form of strategy and a few select spells. Jones paces nervously. Back and forth. Back and forth.

"Get ready." Faraday's voice comes from within a well of concentration.

Back and forth. Back and forth.

Firn'gaer casts Haste. Father Jasper casts Bless.

Back and forth. Back ...

"Wait! That's what's that? That's not supposed *** "

*blink*

The Wold is dark and the group stands on ground covered in a layer of ash. The Wold is dark but the orb that glows in the sky above is too big to be anything but the sun. The Wold is dark within this circular clearing surrounded by a tall tall wall of thin stalked plants. Fifteen to twenty feet high, the dense surrounding plants are all that can be seen except for the sky above, a bright sky dulled by darkness. The air is hot and dry.

"They're here." The voice is deep.

"I can see that, Scaor." A female voice. The one from Heranmar.

Across the ash strewn circle is a wooden stand atop which is a bulging bloated object over five feet long. And beyond the stand four figures are arrayed. The darkness conceals them, even from the enhanced sight of Sly, Luke, Dalek, Yorrick, and Firn'gaer, but their forms are still readily visible. One towers over the others. Firn'gaer recognizes the outlines immediately. It is a form he has taken often, a troll. Another is a heavily armored human. His head is misshapen, flaring out to either side. Jaeden figures this must be a helmet. The third is slight and dark as the darkness around it. Only its hair stands out in the gloom, a shock of white. The fourth is slight as well, but its skin is pale as moonlight.

"I told you they would come sooner than later."

"Come see us," the voice mocks. "We'll be waiting for you next time. If you survive. In fact he's dying to kill you himself. In the meantime remember, we'll be watching."

There is the sound of sliding parchment, and the voice incants a spell. The large one reaches out and there is a simultaneous tear and a liquid splash. The bloated bag upon the stand deflates as it spills its contents onto the ground.

Then all four figures vanish leaving nothing but silence and the heat.

"What?" The voice comes from behind, and the group turns to find a huge hulking half-orc standing behind them, a Warhammer in his hand. His chest is bare and covered in totemic tattoos, but even in the darkness the single tattoo is visible, the one that matters, the one on his hand. It is the same as that worn by the rest of the group.

"I didn't mean to bring him." The voice of Faraday, a reminder that he and the Vision are still out.

But, in this case, is that necessarily a good thing? Who is this Half-orc?

Suddenly, a rustle goes through the plant-life that surrounds the circle, a rustling like a ghostly wind sweeping through the grass. A dull thudding approaches from different directions as of many heavy footprints running this way.

=== OOC ===

Haste has a duration as though you had just cast it, Firn'gaer. Same for Bless, Father Jasper.

Wednesday May 3rd, 2006 7:49:44 AM

Sly takes a gook look at the huge Orc and that Hammer! Sly speaks to the big brute, saying the first though that came into his head, "Sorry to disturbe you, WE just arrived here ourselves, Where are we?"

Sly whispers to Luke, "Wait! and see what He has in mind!"

Luke was only looking at the Big Hammer, "OK!"

Sly rolls for Cha - 18 (not bad for a halfelf with +0 for cha)

"Damn. What'd they do sit and wait here for us to show." He says as they leave. "Sly, I think he's the newest member of our party." He says to Sly.

He says to the new comer. "Welcome to the party. We'll explain later, but now there's a fight."

With that Firn'gaer goes into casting. As he does the Children of Chaos grow. [Mass Enlarge Person] He targets Magog as well.

"I'm afraid not Jaeden, but Yorrick has fought along side me for over 15 years, he knows about small group combat and allies. I will also be able to lend assistance to a change in targets easily enough. Our repoire is as intense as yours and Dalek." Peerimus gives a small smile, Just the thought of Yorrick and thier connection and long friendship put such on his face. Faraday's words of alarm quickly rip the smile away "Wait What?" the words leave the druids mouth as the land snaps into view and he leaves those thoughts alone as his eyes adjust and his mind takes everything in of the new surroundings.

They are gone, powerful teleporation likely and whatever they left behind was the trap. Predators. But thier is no smell or debris, what manner of creature so quickly closes? The substance must have been designed to attract them

Other things quickly go through his subconscious, connected and studied as he is, he becomes aware of them without having to set to thinking about them. [Know Nature 39 Survival 27] Hot and dry, making shelter and water the two most important things beyond survival of the approaching creatures. Day time will be highly dangerous, especially to those wearing metal.

The mass Enlarge hits and the sound of closing predators reaches his ears, "We need a combat circle my friends. We thought it a trap and well it was. Magog turn around we are about to have rather nasty company I suspect."

Peerimus speaks up for everyone to clearly hear, "Whatever is closing in has been attracted by what was in that bag. WE are too open right now, Spell casters start sealing off avenues of attack."

With that Peerimus pulls a scroll and casts Entangle. Using Magog as the 12 o'clock position, Peerimus goes 12 o'clock 55' from his current position. Yorrick shifts 10' to N/8 his nose and ears trying to help him discern what is coming.

Jones
Wednesday May 3rd, 2006 4:41:29 PM

Jones stops his pacing and a smile spreads across his face. "Finally the dance is ready to begin, may Domi find us worthy... and you too my half-orc friend!"

The little man's eyes dart from place to place as he searches for danger, but he answers the half-orc's querries as best he can, "I'm Jones and these are the Children," he waves a hand to indicate the rest of the group. "I've no idea where we are, but Farraday brought us... and you too it seems. As for what we're about, you already have the right notion. We're here to combat evil most foul, and if you choose to stand with us, may Domi bless your hammer and your heart."

Jaeden Ohm
Wednesday May 3rd, 2006 6:18:08 PM

Peerimus' original plan in mind Jaeden sees that the druid is busy casting so takes it upon himself to position the 'frontline'.

"You," he bellows as he points to the new half-orc, "... guard North with the bear and be ready to support where ever the opponent attacks. "Savin, Sly... Guard the west southwest flank. I'll take the east southeast. If they come between any of our three points colapse to form a front line. Peerimus, if you can hear me, whereever they come from keep Yorrick in the rear to guard the flank."

"Stand strong and remember we are the Children of Chaos!"

Wednesday May 3rd, 2006 9:43:29 PM

Magog catches on fast. Looks like he may have to. Especially as he is unarmored.

Father Jasper casts Bull's Strength on Jaeden.

Sly calls a friendly greeting.

Firn'gaer casts a spell and everyone grows. *squeak* Except for Rufus.

Peerimus casts a spell to the north and the vegetation erupts in riot of twisting, writhing stalks. He assesses the environment, planning for survival after the attack. If the group survives the attack. He calls for a defensive formation.

Jones rouses for battle. Evil awaits. This is it.

Jaeden hears Peerimus' call. He begins assigning positions and outlining formations. Whether the group is up to it is left to be seen. A seasoned troop of soldiers, certainly. But adventurers? We shall see.

=================

A high pitches squawk comes from the north along with the sound of thrashing, then things appear from out of the tall stalk wall. Most are squat medium sized things. They push into the circle on huge hind legs. Small front legs end in clawed appendages. The claws look very sharp. Their broad face is dominated by a mouth three feet wide. The mouths open and shut in a popping spasm to reveal three rows of razor teeth. A row of armored bone plating covers the humped back of each of the creatures. These frog things might be amusing, if they were not so obviously deadly.

Even more intimidating, though, is the single creature that stalks out of the reeds from the west. As large as most of the Children of Chaos now are, it's bullet head surveys the group on a graceful neck. It's mouth opens to reveal slashing razor teeth and fangs dripping with dark green fluid. This is a predator. It turns its head to view the group with its other eye, then gives a hiss like a blast of escaping steam. Its feet thud against the ground, then it lets out a Scream that seems to shake the ground. (Savin, Yorrick, Dalek, Jaeden, Sly, Luke, Jones, and Father Jasper: Will Save vs DC14 or be Stunned for 1d4 rounds.)

The smaller ones attack.

b01 Bites Firn'gaer AC21, Miss
b02 Bites Dalek AC18, Miss (Dalek may take an AoO against one of these, and)
b05 Bites Dalek AC15, Miss (Jaeden may take an AoO against one of these.)
b03 Bites Peerimus AC10, Miss (Peerimus may take an AoO against this one.)
b04 Bites Sly AC22, Miss (Sly may take an AoO against one.)
b07 Bites Sly AC16, Miss (of these two.)

The frog-like creatures leap in quickly on their powerful hind legs. But whether it is the unnatural dark or their unfamiliarity with this new prey, none lands a solid bite on any of the Children of Chaos.

From out in the dense vegetation come sounds of rustling, the pounding tread of heavy clawed feet, and a cry in answer to the large razor toothed creature.

Moments after his call for mellee positioning the comically demonic frogs burst into the clearing along with the larger predatory beast. The beast emits a piercing call that threatens to steal the strength from his limbs but he resists the effects and stands strong [will save 20].

His bond with Dalek tells him that the horse struggles against the effect as well but also breaks free of it's influence [will save 17].

The devil frogs close and Dalek kicks out at the first to approach, smacking it square in the head [AoO vs. b02: 86% hit AC28 dmg 11]. The next closes in and Jaeden takes a swing from horseback. He too connects and digs deep into the offending creature. [AoO vs b05: 82% hit ac 32 dmg 24].

The battle now under way both horse and man focus on the same opponent [b05] feeling a sense of unity neither had felt before. Jaeden swings three hasted strikes down at the beast [attack b05: hit ac 27,27,32 dmg 23,20,21]. Dalek adds his own blows, sending in three kicks and a darting bite [attack b05: hit ac 29,29,16,13 dmg 11,8,11,5].

The warriors military training pays off and even in the heat of his battle he keeps the presence of mind to survey the rest of the field.

OCC Al, Savin should have gotten an AOO with his spiked chain as the creatures closed. B03 at least. Enlarge I have a reach of 15' with it)

Savin shakes off the effects of the yell and lashes out with his chain at B03 as it closes the distance with Peerimus. He smiles as the chain wraps around the legs of the creature and gives it a mighty pull hoping to pull its feet out. Str check 18 (ooc Rolled a 3 +6 str, +4 for large size, +2 for spiked chain, +4 for improved trip. Not sure of its, modifiers but taking 10 it would have to get +10 on its str roll. I am rolling my follow up attack for successful trip result. Ignore if it is in vain.

To hit modifiers for chain +1 for MW, +6 for str bonus, +2 for opponent prone, +9 base +1 haste, -1 large size, +1 bless)

Savin follows up with his trip attack with a successful AOO with another swing. It isn't his best and he only hits ac 21 with it. If this is enough he inflicts 13 points of damage on B03

Savin then whisks the chain back to his glove of storing and summons his quarterstaff out of his other one (both free actions). He launches into a flurry of blows against B03

Hit ac 20,32,34,32,14

assuming that ac 14 is a miss Savin does 11+15+14+10= 50 points of damage to B03 with his flurry.

He yells to Firn'gaer, "Can't we just teleport back out of here using that artifact?"

Peerimus's mind categorizes the creatures as froglike, though considerably more dangerous than any frog. As it closes he levels out a nice cut, but the shadowed illumination of the night has him miscalculate the swing and he hits nothing but air. The druid takes some consolation that the creature has the same problem.

The foreign fighter calling himself Magog is blocking the way for Yorrick to be able to move by to assist him. So Peerimus takes what he hopes is the next best action and sends him to free up Firngaer. [Handle animal 29, attack b01] (Since Yorrick is not enlarged he should be able to get to Q/9)

Biting!!! - Round 03 (DM/Al)
Thursday May 4th, 2006 10:36:28 PM

:: OOC :: Sorry, made a mistake with one of the spells. See notes below.

Father Jasper shakes off the effects of the large creature's scream, and he begins incanting a spell. (Rolled Will for you. DC28. Summon Monster is a Full Round Action. Your Huge Viper will appear on your turn at E11/H14. From there it can attack at will.)

Sly Foxx is not so lucky. The cry catches him off guard and he (Rolled Will for Sly. DC13. Sly is Stunned for 2 rounds. He may move on Round 5. Sorry, Sly.) Luke is stunned too. He stands frozen by the terrifying cry of the creature. (Rolled Will for Luke. DC13. He is Stunned for 3 rounds. He may move on Round 6. Sorry, Luke. Bad luck guys.)

Firn'gaer casts on the defensive, and five glowing orbs incinerate the face full of teeth that stands before him. The creature is burned to a crisp.

Jones shakes off the Scream and casts a spell. Then with the fleetness of Haste, he circles around Sly's attackers to take up a position opposite the half-elf. He is unaware that the Bladesinger is now Stunned.

Jaeden and Dalek fight off the effects of the Scream. Dalek strains with the weight on his back. His friend and master has never been this heavy. Jaeden quickly strikes down one of the Bounding creatures as it runs in for an attack. Dalek wounds the other one. (I rolled your miss chances. Jaeden: 94, 51, 47, Dalek: 1, 5.) In a flurry of steel Jaeden slices the remaining creature into a bloody spray. Dalek misses twice in the darkness.

Savin's chain strikes out, whipping around the feet of the bounding creature. With croak of surprise it braces on all fours, and the Chain Pulls from Savin's grip. (Woldian Special Attack Rules, auto-failure on 1, 2, or 3.) With a click of his fingers, the monk calls a staff from his other glove. Three blows out of five break through the frog mouth's armor, beating it to a bloody pulp. (I rolled your miss chances. Savin: 81, 23, 26)

(BTW, you have a 20-foot threat range with the Chain and Enlarge. Sorry I forgot you had the chain in hand.)

Peerimus sends Yorrick to help Firn'gaer. The bear arrives too late, the creature is nothing but ash. The creature that came after Peerimus is a stain in the ash on the ground.

Unarmored, Magog decides not to close with the razor teeth that the creatures of this land possess in bounty. He throws javelins in stead. One hits penetrating the creatures rough hide. The creature easily ducks the second throw, snapping at the missile as it flies by. (BTW, Javelins are 1d6+STR not 1d8+STR.)

=================

The large creature drives straight toward the thing that hurt it. In the way, stands Peerimus. It's teeth fail to penetrate the druid's protection.

r12 Bite Peerimus AC18.

The two frog things attack Sly. And this time, Sly is Stunned and cannot dodge. *aHoo* *aHoo* One lands a near bite. But for the darkness he would have bitten a big chunk of Bladesinger flesh.

b07 Bite Sly AC20, Claw AC13, AC16, Miss

More sounds of thrashing come from the Entangling plants to the north.

More of the Bounding frog things come leaping out of the grass from all sides. They do not hesitate, bent only upon blood and killing.

Two rush from the south with startling speed.

One comes from the southeast Bounding across the ash covered floor directly at Jaeden and Dalek. (Jaeden and Dalek you may take an AoO against b25.)

Four appear from the northeast, attacking Firn'gaer, Yorrick and Dalek. Yorrick, you may make one AoO against any of b22, b33, b36, or b37. Jaeden or Dalek, you may make an AoO against b37.)

b36 Bite Firn'gaer AC18, Miss
b37 Bite Dalek AC26, Damage 16hp (Miss Chance 33. If you take this one down with your AoO, you forgo the damage.)

Two come in from the northwest, one attacks Peerimus and the other attacks Savin. (Peerimus you may take an AoO against b20. Savin you may take an AoO against b23.) They come charging in with blind ferocity. Their three rows of teeth ripping and rending. Only the darkness saves Savin from a nasty bite.

b20 Bite Peerimus AC24, Damage 15hp (Miss Chance 93. If you take this one down with your AoO, you forgo the damage.)
b23 Bite Savin AC27, (Miss Chance 7 /Miss)

From the west and southwest three attack Jones from behind. (Jones, you may take an AoO against either b20.

b21 Bite Jones AC22, Miss
b31 Bite Jones AC16, Miss
b34 Bite Jones AC23, Damage 15hp (Miss Chance 80. If you take this one down with your AoO, you forgo the damage.)

The crash of more vegetation comes from beyond the wall. The thud of more heavy footfalls.

Notes:

Al's Mistake: It's been pointed out to me that Enlarge Person only works on Persons. Yorrick, Luke and Dalek remain the size they were before. This is only a problem for Jaeden and Dalek. Jaeden, Dalek is now considered to be carrying a Heavy Load.

Please adjust your AC for the effects below.

Per Haste: One extra attack, +1 bonus on attack rolls and a +1 dodge bonus to AC and Reflex saves.
PerEnlarge Person: One size category larger one. +2 size bonus to Strength, a -2 size penalty to Dexterity , and a -1 penalty on attack rolls and AC due to its increased size.
Per Bless: +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and on saving throws against fear
Haste does not apply to Magog

There is a 20% Miss chance to all attacks. Roll that d100!

And please list your grid coordinates if you move.

A new foe close from the darkness and both horse and rider lash out at it [Jaeden AoO vs b37 hit ac 30 dmg 21 / Dalek AoO vs B37 hit AC14 dmg 8].

Jaeden recovers from his strike and with a quick mental impulse tells Dalek to back off. He slides off the horses side [ride 22] and Dalek takes a step back [5' step to P11:Q12].

With Dalek out of the way Jaeden goes to work. His first again arcs in to finish off the new frog [attack1 vs b37: 24% Hit AC40 dmg 19]. The beast is cleaved in twain and the warrior doesn't stop. He turns right with a low sweeping swing and utterly anihilates the remaining frog that opposes him [attack2 vs b25 91% hit ac 43 crit confirmation ac 38 dmg 47.]

Seeing the closest foe to the north the warrior takes a five foot step towards it [5' step to R11:S12] and swings his sword yet again. His strike seems true but somehow it misses, the darkness playing tricks on his eyes attack3 vs. b33 17% miss conceal].

Sly is suprised that he cannot move, He's looking into his enermy's eyes. Sly tries to cast Magic Missels, he cannot open his mouth to speak the words. Then he remembers he had lifted his sword before he went solid, that means that the spell id still in his sword, so Sly tries to tell the big mouth frog Go ahead, walk into my sword, but again no sound is uttered.

Luke Now will attack at B07, BUT find that he cannot move, He cannot reason as to why?? He wimpers to Sly, again no sound?? He is a living statue.

Savin sees one coming and swings at it taking his AOO. Hit AC 19/ made miss chance/ for 22 points of damage.

Savin then goes into a hasted flurry of blows and he looks like a mini whirl wind as he staff is moving so fast. He is using power attack giving +4 to his damage. Unfortunately he is going so fast several of his blows miss with only 2 finding the target. (Rolled miss chance and made them)

Though Savin doesn't hit much, his hits are effective smashing his opponent for 24 and 26 points of damage or 50 total.

(ooc explanation of damage 2d6 for large sized staff, +6 strength, +4 power attack doubled for striking with a two handed weapon)

Savin glances around trying to makes sure he keeps an eye out on his companions. (spot 27)

Jaeden's Enlarged Greatsword cuts a frog creature nearly in two as it leaps in for a bite. It falls to the ground unmoving. The warrior quickly dismounts, and his steed backs away. The first creature is down, so he turns his blade to the one to the south. (b25 instead) The Greatsword draws a gout of blood, and the frog thing drops. He takes a Five-Foot Step next to Yorrick, and the frog thing explodes in a splatter of blood. (You took the first one down with your AoO, so I moved targets up incrementally. BTW, AC's are now listed below.)

Sly and Luke remain stunned by the terrible cry. Then Sly blinks. Looks like he's coming out of it. (Sly, you may act with your next post. Luke is still Stunned. Oh, and yes, you still have the spell in your sword.)

Yorrick takes hold of one of the smaller biters as it rushes in for the attack. (b22) It crushes under his paws, and with an extra tear, it rips in two. Then he reaches over Firn'gaer and slaps down the frog thing there. (b36) One. Two. The thing is smashed into an unrecognizable mass of flesh.

Peerimus gives the frog thing a hard whack as it comes in toward him. He hits hard, but doesn't bring the creature down. It takes a big chunk out of the druid's flesh. (Didn't quite take b20 out of the picture, Peerimus. Remember to take 15hp from the bite last round.) Then, possibly with the mistaken idea that his opponent is down, Peerimus turns to the larger threat. Both of the druid's blows bounce harmlessly off of the big raptor-like creature's tough hide. The third misses in the darkness.

Yorrick has already annihilated the creature threatening Firn'gaer, so the wizard turns his missiles on the creature still threatening Peerimus. (b20) The missiles of light vaporize the creature.

Savin swings at his attacker as it charges in. His staff bounces off of it's bony back without doing damage. He continues, churning out a flurry of blows. He connects with the frog-thing, this time breaking its back. (b23) It drops, and Savin transfers his attacks to the raptor engaged with Peerimus. Already wounded by Magog's javelin, the end of Savin's quarterstaff takes the creature down.

Conjured by Father Jasper, a Huge Viper appears to the west. It strikes at one of the frog creatures between Jones and Sly, but its fangs fail to penetrate the creature's bony back. With the raptor-like creature now down, Father Jasper turns a Flamestrike to the south, against the two frog creatures bounding quickly toward him from the south. One is slow and goes up in a puff of flame. (b32) The other one ducks half the blast. (b35) Its skin is cracked and blackened but it remains standing.

Magog turns to attack the frog thing to the east only to find that Yorrick has flattened it already.

Jones, almost completely surrounded, seems frozen and unable to act.

=======================================

Savin, Will Save, please.

Thumping noises come from the Entangling grass to the north.

One more frog-mouth crashes from the wall to the northeast. It attacks the largest thing in sight, Yorrick. (b28, No AoO. It only moved 5 feet out from the wall.) Its triple row of teeth miss, clacking on empty air.

b28 Bites Yorrick AC12

Three frogs bound out of the east along with two raptors. One of the raptors (r09) gives a cry that washes over almost the entire group. (Everyone except for Jones & the Huge Viper, Will Save vs DC14 or be stunned for 1d4 rounds.) The three frog things charge at Jaeden. One looks like he's coming in for a good bite. (Jaeden, you may take an AoO against any one of these three. Dalek, may take an AoO against b26.) The other raptor comes straight into the circle and takes a bite at Father Jasper. The raptor's teeth penetrate Jasper's adamantine breastplate, and the cleric of Alemi feels blood well from the wound. Worse yet, the Healer feels the characteristic burn of ... Poison!

b26 Bites Jaeden AC19
b29 Bites Jaeden AC17
b30 Bites Jaeden AC25, Miss 88, Damage 15hp (If you take this one down with your AoO, you forgo the damage.)
r10 Bites Father Jasper AC30, Miss 78, Damage 19hp, 17hp after DR (Poison!!! Fort Save vs DC12 or take 2d8 DEX damage for 6d4 Hours)

One raptor comes from the southeast. It makes it's way north and bites at Jaeden over the heads of the bounding frog creatures. Razor teeth snap by Jaeden's ear as the thing misses by a narrow margin in the dark.

r11 Bites Jaeden AC31, Miss 10 /Miss

From the south, the frog thing burnt by Father Jasper's Flamestrike hops toward the cleric drawing an Attack of Opportunity. Another bursts from the wall and comes charging north. Still another raptor follows. (r11) It comes around the wooden stand and approaches Jones and Sly.

Despite the appearance of the Huge Viper or the presence of Jones behind them, the two frog creatures continue to attack Sly Foxx. Bites and claws rain down on the stunned Bladesinger, but his Mithril armor keeps him safe. The effects of the raptor's scream wear off. Time for a little Bladesinger payback.

b04 Bite Sly AC19, Claw AC20, AC8
b07 Bite Sly AC20, Claw AC9, AC16

The frog things behind Jones rip into him with tooth and claw. Blood spurts as they rend his flesh. (Total 44hp)

b21 Bite Jones AC25, Claw AC13, AC25, Miss Chance 43 & 30, Damage 15+8 = 23hp
b31 Bite Jones AC29 (Crit AC22 Not Confirmed), Claw AC15, AC16, Miss Chance 82, Damage 9hp
b34 Bite Jones AC11, Claw AC24, AC18, Miss Chance 72, Damage 12hp

From the east another raptor emerges. It sends a Fearsome cry out over the group. (Another Will Save vs DC14 or be stunned for 1d4 rounds. Jones, Sly, Luke, Savin, Peerimus, Father Jasper, & Dalek.)

Jones looks in bad shape. And, as easily as these things seem to go down, more appear to take their place. The tall reed like plants rustle. There is no breeze.

Again that awful screech fills the air and attempts to steal the strength from his limbs. Again warrior and horse gather their will and resist the effect [jaeden 18 dalek 16].

A new wave of beasties attack, and Jaeden lets the point of his greatsword dip in invitation. Three of the frogs take the offered opening and lunge at his exposed head. At the last moment he lifts the point of the blade and the middle frog impales itself on the great blades not-so pointy point. Expecting to only be able to stop one the warrior bends at the knees and lowers his head towards the remaining devil frogs. He gives a thrust forward, throwing off the beasts timing and bouncing them off his shoulder plates [AoO vs. b30: 71% hit ac 35 dmg 26].

Once the beasts drop to the ground Dalek doesn't hesitate to kick out the one closest to him [AoO vs b26: hit ac 18 miss]. The horse's angle is off however and he misses the creature all together.

Dalek back off! a quick mental instruction to the horse is all it takes to get him out of harms way [move to n10:o11].

Jaeden doesn't stop moving once the beast bounce from his plates. He plants his right foot to stop his forward thrust and again lets the point of his blade drop. This time however he lets it continue to circle around and above him, coming down in a powerful overhand chop that smashes through one of the frogs and erasing it from existance [att1 vs b29: 90% hit crit ac 41 confirmed ac 31 dmg 45].

Now having much more space to work in Jaeden sweeps his blade right and low, trying to slice the remaining opponent. He hits the beast but not nearly as hard as his last blow [att2 vs b26: 71% hit ac 38 dmg 22]. He allows his blade to continue around and changes the direction of the blades momentum to deliver yet another overhand chop. Again his blade decends with the force of a giants thrown boulder and the beast explodes in a shower of gore and chitinous fragments [att3 vs. b26: 47% crit ac 36 confirmed ac 24 dmg 46].

Not liking Father Jaspers vunerability in that position Jaeden begins to move to support the priest [5' step r12:s13]

notes on damage
* Al, your post made me realize that i wasnt using the proper dmg for an enlarged greatsword. Should be 3d6. Therefore I'm rolling crits at 6d6
* dmg roll for the first crit i didn't double my addition dmg so the number there doesnt match my post
* for attack #2 i accidently added to my miss roll. i still hit and subtracted the number from my post.

The two larger Raptors roar and the subsonics resonate through the druid, but his mind overcomes them. Not so, unfortunately for Yorrick, and the bear reels from the shuddering sound. (Peerimus Will 32/23 Yorrick Will 9 Stunned 4 rounds)

The druid catches Yoirricks predicament from the corner of his eye. Only one creature was there for now, He likely could get off the bigger spell he was thinking about. Firngaer throws up the wall of fire. "Excellent placement Firngaer. Jones, get out of there!" A bit of a panic seems to be rising into the druids voice at the mans predicament.
Regaining a bit of composure, "Magog get over and free up Firngaer, Yorrick is out for a few moments and we need Firngaer caring about grander things than a single opponent." Raising his voice again "I'm Bringing in more help!" and Peerimus will spontaneously cast SNA IV using a Heightened Scying.

Savin fights off the forces acting upon his mind and steps up to help Sly. With a flurry of blows, he turns one of the frog creatures into a red mist.

Firn'gaer conjures a Wall of Fire. The line of raptors and frog creatures catch fire. The big mouthed frog nearest Father Jasper drops, and the rest scream in pain.

Sly snaps out of his stunned terror and begins to cast a spell. This draws an Attack of Opportunity from the big mouth next to him. (Bite Sly AC24) It bites, but can't penetrate Sly's armor. Sly's spell goes off and Three magic missiles slam into the creature. (You missed one. I rolled a 5 for you.) The creature is blackened and dying, but still on its feet. Poor Luke is hit by the terrible screams, and his muscles refuse to move. (Luke stunned for 3 more rounds, Can move on Round 8).

Jaeden runs the point of his blade clear through a bounding frog. Dalek misses a kick, then backs into the protected center of the group. Jaeden cuts another foe clean through the center, then follows through to drop a third. He steps five feet to Father Jasper's side, and cuts the head off one of the burning raptors.

Something primal in the raptors' scream strikes to Yorrick's brave heart. He freezes unable to move. Peerimus sees things going badly. He begins a summoning spell to call on a beast of the Mother and the Father.

Father Jasper hustles over to Jones, moving slowly in his medium armor. On the way he draws Attacks of Opportunity from one flaming raptor and a frog mouth. (r11 AoO Bite Father Jasper AC31, Miss Chance 15 - Miss, b07 AoO Bite Father Jasper AC13) The Cleric has Alemi's luck this day. The Raptor nearly lands a good bite, but misses in the dark.

(Father Jasper, you took 19hp last time, and Poison as well. I rolled your Fortitude vs the Poison as well. You passed with a 23 vs DC12. Also note that you need a Touch Attack before you may initiate a Grapple. And if you succeed in your Grapple, you need to roll Damage to your opponent.)

The Huge Viper slithers toward a victim on the far side of the melee. On the way it draws Attacks of Opportunity from two frog mouths. (b17 AoO Bite AC19, Miss Chance 93, Damage 14hp, b21 AoO Bite AC12) One of them takes a big chunk out of the snake. Before it can even pass a third opponent, the Huge Viper crosses Firn'gaer's Wall of Fire. (Take a further 19hp damage.) It bursts into flames and dies of the combination of the bite and the fire.

Magog, like Yorrick, is struck with fear by the cry of the raptor creatures. He stands unmoving. (Can Move on Round 8).

===========================================

To the north the sound of ripping comes from the Entangling plants.

To the northeast a lone frog rips at Yorrick, flat-footed and unable to protect himself. The creature opens it's large mouth and bites into Yorrick's leg, a claw rakes the bear's flesh.

b28 Bite Yorrick AC28, Claw AC15, AC23, Miss Chance 34, 41, Damage 11+8=19hp

To the east, the large raptors come through the flames and attack Jaeden. They rip huge chunks from his flesh with their teeth. But worse than that, they inject poison into the wounds. Jaeden feels the burn slowing his reflexes. Can he fight it off?

r08 Bite Jaeden AC27, Claw AC15, AC13, Miss Chance 89, Damage 16hp (Poison!!! Fort Save vs DC12 or take 2d8 DEX damage for 6d4 Hours)
r09 Bite Jaeden AC26, Miss Chance 95, Damage 12hp (Poison!!! Fort Save vs DC12 or take 2d8 DEX damage for 6d4 Hours)

All across the southeast, the south and the southwest, the frog creatures come bounding through the ashes. They throw themselves at the Wall of Fire in a blind scramble to bite and rend. (3 Fried. 2 only charred.)

The large raptor (r11) continues to attack Father Jasper, completely disregarding the flames in which it stands. It lives to kill. Snap, rend, rend, a claw narrowly misses the cleric in the Darkness. Then the raptor is consumed by the fire and dies.

r11 Bite Jasper AC13, Claw AC19, AC26, Miss Chance 6.

The lone standing frog mouth attacks Sly. None of it's attacks can break through Sly's protection.

b07 Bite Sly AC10, Claw AC11, AC24.

Jones is at the mercy of the horde behind him. They want to eat him. They want his blood. Already covered in his own blood, Jones dodges and weaves, but it is not enough. One claw, the next, then Jones is down. The raptor burns up in the flames, but the frog things leap upon his fallen body, gulping down strips of bloody flesh. (Jones is at -13.)

b21 Bite Jones AC22, Claw AC20, AC25, Miss Chance 66, Damage 9hp

b34 Bite Jones AC21, Claw AC26, AC21, Miss Chance 79, Damage 10hp
r07 Bite Jones AC25, Claw AC21, AC11, Miss Chance 6

From the northwest a raptor and two frogs appear. A frog and a raptor attack Peerimus, but both miss. (You may take an AoO against b16 if you wish to cease casting your summoning spell.)

b16 Bite Peerimus AC10
r13 Bite Peerimus AC18

The third frog bounds after Sly. It misses too.

b17 Bite Sly AC12

More footfalls come from outside the circle. There is still survival to think about. Still, it's hard to push out the grunts of the feasting creatures that rip and tear at Jones' body.

Savin sees Jonas fall and feels regret at not getting to know the man better. He seemed like a nice fellow but their time was to short for true friendship to develop.

Then the call to battle lures him back to reality. He wishes he had time to activate his tattoo but to many opponents keep coming in. He attacks the new raptor threatening Peerimus's flank R13 and attacks with a power attack flurry of blows. He should have hit 3 times but the darkness through off one of his attacks and caused him to miss. (OOC Does the wall of flame give us enough light where this doesn't matter?)

If three hits happen, then Savin does 67 points of damage to the foul beast. If only 2 hit, then he only does 43. (powerattacked for +4)

He yells out to his friends, "Why are we staying here? All we can do is take losses? Firn'gaer use the artifact to get us out of here." I am making the assumption that Firn'gaer took the artifact back when he rejoined the group.

"I don't have Faraday!" He calls back to Savin.

The larger beasts have better luck against the heavily armored Jaeden Ohm. Both land solid hits against the warrior and their venom enters his bloodstream. The human is made of hearty stuff however, and while the infected wounds will likely itch later the poison leaves no lasting effects [save vs poison 17 & 22].

For just a moment Jaeden's discipline slips and his anger gets the best of him. He hacks at the closest beast out of fury and completely misses his mark [att1 vs r08: crit miss]. Quickly recovering from the sloppy attack he regains his composure and this time sends a more measured strike against his opponent. The re-composure pays of and his blade slices into the already injured beast, killing it [att2 vs r08: 69% Hit ac 27 dmg 27]. He turns his attention to the remaining opponent and slays that one too with a n almost casual swing of his greatsword [att3 vs. r09: 32% hit ac 25 dmg 25].

A quick survey of the battle field tells him where he's needed most. He begins to move to the highest concentration of foes [5' step to p12:q13].

Father Jasper casts a spell and the act of casting draws an Attack of Opportunity from a frog creature (b07 AoO Bite Father Jasper AC15). The spell goes off successfully and Father Jasper calls a forty foot pillar of Flame down from the sky. It lands atop the three creatures feasting upon Jones' body. Only one leaps free. But even half damaged, it still falls into a dead scorching pile. Of Jones' body, there is no more sign. He's been incinerated and his body mingles with the ash already on the ground.

Magog stands frozen. He is lucky to be in the middle of the group. The example of Jones shows what happens to those who are exposed.

Savin lands two strikes, a third missing in the darkness. Even the two strikes rock the raptor like a rag doll, flinging it to the side a soft bloody mess. Savin calls to escape this pointless fight. To escape using the Circle of Far and Away.

Firn'gaer takes out a wand before raising his hands an conjuring a second wall of fire, this one protecting the northern front. ( He replies that he does not have Faraday.

Sly hits a frog mouth with electrifying results. The creature drops, but Sly hits it again. Luke tries to move, but his muscles are still frozen with shock.

Peerimus calls out that he has Faraday. But he replies that it takes the Circle an hour to make a teleport jump. The druid takes a five-foot step away from a biting frog mouth and completes his spell. Two bears the size of Yorrick appear. With the raptor dead at Savin's hands, the northern-most one attacks the smaller frog thing instead. (b16) The bear hits the frog and pulls it into a crush, but it is still alive. The southern bear comes down upon another frog. It pries the bony plate right off the frog's back and rips out its innards. The druid turns his club against the frog trapped in the arms of his summoned bear. With a single strike he ends its life.

Across the battle field, Jaeden misses with his first swing. But, with an almost casual grace, he cuts the heads from both raptors facing him, before stepping closer to Dalek.

=============================================

Two frog creatures bound out of the Entangling plants and run straight into the second Wall of Fire. Engulfed in flames, they drop.

In the northeast, the single frog creature continues to chew on Yorrick. With the great bear motionless, the frog is able to sink two claws, ripping bloody furrows in Yorrick's body.

b28 Bite Yorrick AC12, Claw AC19, AC20, Miss Chance 85, 100, Damage 12+11= 23hp

From the south, the two frog things rush to the attack. They cross the Wall of Fire and scream as they die. But from out of the vegetation come two raptors. They rush across the circle, bursting into flames as they cross the Wall. One raises a clang as its teeth fail to penetrate Jaeden's armor. The other sinks its fangs into Father Jasper's arm. Again the Cleric of Alemi feels the burning poison as it tries to work its way into his blood.

r02 Bite Jaeden AC21
r04 Bite Father Jasper AC23, Miss Chance 47, Damage 20hp (Poison!!! Fort Save vs DC12 or take 2d8 DEX damage for 6d4 Hours)

From the west and northwest four more raptors appear. One attacks Father Jasper. Flanked by two creatures now, the Cleric of Alemi narrowly misses another nasty bite. It is only the darkness that saves him by the slimmest of margins. Not so lucky, the summoned brown bear. Three raptors reach out their long necks to rip huge chunks from its flesh. The bear dies, returning to whence it was summoned.

The group that has already lost one of its members to a grisly fate, faces several vicious raptor-like creatures. More rustling comes from the surrounding vegetation. The fire crackles, angry in the heat.

Those who are not stunned, Spot and Listen checks, please.

Jasper fall back, we will need you back here where we can protect you and you can heal us. Think we are going to need it soon.

Peerimus glances agian over at Yorrick, his friend is in trouble but the press from the Raptos continues. "Thank you!" the druid calls out as the Lightning incinerates the frog creature on Yorrick. Peerimus looks back to his own front, one bear torn to bits summoning more is not needed yet, must slow them down. Peerimus makes a quick gesture, "Father and Mother bless your children with your power." [Cast Animal Growth on the summoned bear and Yorrick since he is within 30']

Both bears growth to Huge size gaining Strength and more importantly, magical protection from the creatures physical attacks. The summoned bear thunders a deafening cry across the grasslands in which it finds itself and launches a devastating attack against the predators of this place that dare to stand before it. (Or the die roller could pipe me)

As the bear completely misses, Peerimus rolls his eyes and a curse at Waard escapes his lips

"Savin just breathe and relax and keep your self about you." it is just then the druid notices how far out of position Father Jasper has gotten himself. Fajah!

"Jaeden, Sly! you HAVE to get to the Raptors on Jasper and get himi out of there!"

Going to Jaspers aid will completely expose their south eastern flank but Peerimus is right, he must support the healer. Later, if they survive, he'll have to speak with the priest about tactics. For now what is is.

First things first...

Without time for finese Jaeden gives a shout and swings his greatsword at the nearest beast the way other children used to swing a stick at balls of wadded rages when he was growing up. The weapon hits true and launches the now dead raptor back a few feet where it crumples to the ground [att1 vs r02: 46% hit ac 36 dmg 26].

Now to the priest...

He charges westward towards Jasper and the closest raptor, shouting at the top of his lungs to draw the creatures attention [move action to L14:M15]. Deadly they may be but still they're animals.

notes
Al, positioning could get tricky here. With everything as it stands Jaeden can get to the indicated spot without trouble. However, Jaspers new position places him on top of Luke so im sure you'll have to adjust. In case you do, please reposition Jaeden with the following intentions in mind:

* Trying to shield Jasper by placing himself between the healer and any foe.
* Trying to be in reach of a foe for a full attack next round.
* Trying to not let the positioning of the perimeter stray to far
* Trying not to get burnt :P

heh, no problem Jon. Keep in mind that Jaeden is supposed to be a seasoned mercenary so things like frontlines and perimeters are on the forefront of his mind. Thats probably not the case with Jasper, who has healing on the forefront of his mind :D. Depending of course on your background, you probably played the part perfectly. Now if we survive I'll have to play Jaedens follow up appropriately :P. How Jasper responds is up to you.

All in fun!

Savin holds position and activates the tattoo that he bought at the Catacombs. He asks Firn'gaer why it is dark when there are two walls of fire illuminating the area. Looking up that sure looks like the sun up there as well.

Father Jasper shakes off the poison and draws a potion from his Haversack. Handy, that haversack. He can pull an item without having to take his eyes off his opponents. Not so, though, with drinking a potion. Jasper tips up the potion and both raptors use the Opportunity to Attack. (r03 AoO Bite Father Jasper AC28, Miss Chance 67, Damage 24hp, r04 AoO Bite Father Jasper AC24, Miss Chance 38, Damage 22hp.) More poison pumps into Father Jaspers wounds from the two additional bites. (Two more Fort Saves vs DC14, please.) Father Jasper is bloody and near collapse. He truly now, stares death in the face. (Down to 7hp) Worse yet, after drawing the potion and drinking, the cleric realizes ... he has no time left to withdraw. He is still trapped between the two hungry raptors.

Magog looks on, helpless to save the cleric. (Magog may move with your next post.)

Firn'gaer replies to Savin that it is some sort of Deeper Darkness. And yet, does that make sense? How long would something like that last? And why use it in an open space? There must be more to it. Maybe something of a divine nature. He fires a lightening bolt at the frog mouth biting Yorrick. The creature shakes and blackens, then drops to the ground.

Sly calls out for someone to open the magic snuffbox. Maybe he has something in mind. He prepares for a Fireball spell. (I'm sorry, Sly, I'm not sure what you want to do with the Fireball. You have to give me a location for the Fireball's center. And you have to roll 6d6 damage.) Luke, like Magog, stands frozen. (Luke may move with your next post.)

Peerimus casts a spell, and his bears grow Huge, taking on damage resistance in the process. He calls out for someone to rescue Father Jasper. His summoned bear makes an attempt, but, unused to its new size, it misses its attack.

Jaeden is Father Jasper's only hope. With a single stroke, he downs his opponent before leaping across the field of combat, shouting to create a distraction.

===========================================

More bounding frog horrors appear out of the vegetation. There seem fewer of them this time, though.

Another frog mouth charges out of the Entangling vegetation to the north and through the fire. On it's last legs, it still bites at Magog. Stunned and unarmored, Magog loses a big chunk of flesh. (Peerimus or B1 may take an AoO vs this creature. If you take it down, you prevent Magog from taking the bite.)

b19 Bite Magog AC14, Miss Chance 31, Damage 12hp

From the northeast another frog mouth appears and bites at Yorrick. The triple row of teeth latch onto the bear, but the Growth spell resists most of the damage.

b10 Bite Yorrick AC21, Miss Chance 33, Damage 15hp /5hp after DR

From the southeast two more frogs bound across the ash covered circle and into Firn'gaer's Wall of Fire. Despite the burns they take, they still attack Jaeden.

The raptor turns at Jaeden's shouts, but just as it reaches out for a bite, the flames of Firn'gaer's wall engulf it and it goes down.

b09 Bite Jaeden AC15
b12 Bite Jaeden AC28, Miss Chance 39, Damage 9hp

A frog emerges from the west and two of the raptors smell Father Jasper's death. They close in and teeth and claws snap and scrape against the Cleric. The razor sharp teeth of a raptor clack an inch away from his face, but miss in the darkness. When it's all over, Father Jasper still stands. (Lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky. Please look at the Withdraw action in combat.)

r01 Bite Father Jasper AC15
r03 Bite Father Jasper AC27, Claw AC16, AC13, Miss Chance 18
b12 Bite Father Jasper AC17

A raptor leaps in and attacks Sly. Its bite is slow and Sly dodges easily. (B1 may take an AoO vs this creature, if it has not taken an AoO previously.)

r06 Bite Sly AC14

A raptor and a bounding frog attack Peerimus' remaining summoned bear. The bites and claws rake the bear's flesh, but the magic of the Growth spell keep it from most harm. More dangerous than the wounds is the poison injected by the raptor. It hits the bear's system and seeks to take it down.

r05 Bite B1 AC29, Claw AC9, AC26, Miss Chance 74, 41, Damage 19/9+8/0= 9hp after DR (Poison!!! Fort Save vs DC12 or take 2d8 DEX damage for 6d4 Hours)
b08 Bite B1 AC17, Miss Chance 97, Damage 8hp / 0hp after DR

The group is hemmed in by walls of flame. Large raptor-like creatures close in. Father Jasper is near death and in bad position. Can the group save themselves?

Dripping in his own blood, Father Jasper pushes through the crowd of his companions to escape the teeth and claws of the raptors. He seeks a place in the center, but the center is completely full. The best he can do is a space in front of Dalek. He presses up against Jaeden's horse, a frog mouth is no more than 5 feet to the south, dangerously close. (Sorry, you can't end up in a square already occupied by someone else. M11 would have been just find, if you had been Medium size still. Large size, you don't fit.)

Savin takes a 5-foot step forward and hits a raptor so fast that it four blows strike before it hits the ground. Two blows hit so hard that the creature bursts like a rotten fruit spraying arcs of blood into the darkness.

Sly Foxx decides where to place his Fireball spell. He points at one of the raptors. A single bead leaves his finger, and when it touches the raptor, it EXPLODES in a burst of Fire! Must be the first time that Sly cast this spell, because not only does he expect five small balls of fire, but he also catches *HIMSELF* in the edge of the blast from the one very *BIG* ball of fire. (Sly Take 22hp damage from your own Fireball. Reflex Save vs DC16 for 11hp damage instead.) The vegetation behind the Fireball catches fire and crisps into ashes. And the two raptors and the frog mouth ... the frog mouth is black and unmoving. One raptor is near death, and the other one is badly burnt. Good thing Father Jasper had moved.

Firn'gaer conjures another Wall of Fire. The two southern most raptors collapse in flames while the one to the north is badly scorched. The gnomish wizard calls for a break to higher ground. Unfortunately, there is no higher ground to be seen. The only thing visible over the tall surrounding vegetation is the sky.

Peerimus nixes both Sly's idea of the Ferrets and Firn'gaer's dash for the hills. His summoned bear slaps the charging frog like a gnat before it turns to slap down the single remaining raptor and crush a bounding frog in his teeth. Peerimus moves through the crowd of his companions and heals Father Jasper. Yorrick beings to shake his paralysis. (Yorrick may move next round.)

Jaeden quickly finishes the nearby frog creature with two cuts of his blade. Then, in the heat of battle, he steps out to defend Father Jasper, coming dangerously close to Firn'gaer's Wall of Fire.

Magog joins Jaeden dangerously near the Wall of Fire, readying an attack designed to protect Father Jasper.

The field of battle is clear.

But aside from the single lone animal, this hot dry land seems to have given up the last of its deadly predators. Those within the immediate area at least. But where is this? Who is this half-orc within your midst? What of poor Jones?

And what did this unknown group expect to get from this? Did they truly expect the entire group to fall? What was the last thing that woman said?

"Come see us. We'll be waiting for you next time. If you survive. In fact he's dying to kill you himself."

End of Combat Rounds!!!

The last Bounder should present no challenge. I will assume that Yorrick stirs and crushes it. Good job. Learning experience, huh? ^_^

Savin  d20+13=32
Thursday May 11th, 2006 9:48:51 PM

Savin looks around, fire still in his eyes, ready to strike at anything with teeth and moves. Suddenly there is nothing to fight. He wipes the gore off his staff and it disappears back into his glove. He then bends over and picks up his spiked chain. It too disappears into his other glove.

He moves over towards the area that Jonas fell and looks for any remains or articles from his friend. A tear drips down his cheek as he kneels for a moment and thinks of the man who he knew for only a short time.

He stands back up, wipes his cheek and walks over to the half-orc. He sticks out his hand and says, "We haven't been properly introduced. My name is Savin. Looks like you are the next member of the Children of Chaos. At least you have the tattoo. I hope you last longer than our last newest member."

Savin turns and looks at Peerimus. "What now? The bold frontal assualt didn't go so well."

Firn'gaer  d20+8=16
Friday May 12th, 2006 6:36:28 AM

Firn'gaer looks to the burned spot Jones body would be and lowers his head for a moments prayer.

Firn'gaer puts away the wand.

"I'm going to take a look above and see where we're at." He says taking the rod from his belt and casting a spell with it. "I also want to see how much the fire has spread. If at all."

Rising from the ground, Firn'gaer climbs into the air and as he does he casts another spell to increase his vision.

He looks around, assuming he leaves the darkened area, to see how far the plains expand.

A darker look crosses his face as Savin speaks up, he ignores the comment. The druid looks to the charred dust that was the body of Jones. "And so into the arms of Mother and Father may you find rest." the druid then begins moving to the platform even as Firngaer heads skyward.
He calls up, "Is it spell or universal affect?"

Peerimus climbs the platform. "I am thinking to ask Mother what lies within our immediate area. Jasper I suggest you tend to yourself and any others whom are hurt, we do not know how long our repreive is."

Peerimus of course waits the minute of time for the walls to wink out.

Savin "illegal post"
Friday May 12th, 2006 10:23:57 PM

Savin feels a smile growing over his face and then a chuckle escapes his mouth. Suddenly he is laughing. He just can't help himself looking at the indignant half orc. Soon tears are streaming down his cheeks and the young monk is doubled over. After a minute, he regains his composure still chuckling.

"I am sorry ...you said your name was Magog? I will try to explain." Savin holds up a hand showing his tattoo. He then points at Magog's identical tattoo and continues, "We all have a simular tattoo. It marks us as Children of Chaos. It seems the fates have chosen us as its heroes. We are destined to face and defeat the avatar of chaos. To do this we are gathering powerful magic items to use in this battle.

You might have noticed the other group that was here when we first arrived. They are our counterparts. They are evil and vicious and will kill anyone who gets in their way or just kill for the sheer pleasure of it. They are trying to eliminate us and we are trying to elimanate them. They won this round but we will eventually pervail. I guess the easiest way to say this is we have a job to do. If we fail, the Wold will be thrust into chaos and torment. We can't fail. Our task is filled with peril." Savin points to the smoking remains of Jones. "Just know that you are with the good guys and you are going to be pivotal in the shaping of the future of this Wold."

Savin reaches out in friendship and clasps the half orc on the shoulder. "It is easier not to think about it to much. I much rather just hit things with my staff."

Saturday May 13th, 2006 11:49:31 AM

In the quiet of the moment, the Children of Chaos offer up respect for the dead. They tend to wounds. They reflect upon the battle. And they once again explain what it's all about, bringing another soul into the fold, another of the Chosen who shares the tattoo.

For his part, Magog seems fairly simple in his needs, and adapts fairly readily to a situation that in many respects defies belief.

There is little left of Jones' body. The bones are intact, charred black, though pink with scraps of flesh. The heat of this place is ferocious, made even more so by the Walls of Fire that surround the group.

Firn'gaer casts a spell and then rises up into the air to survey from above. Twenty, forty, sixty feet he rises up before breaking from the Darkness and into ... Blazing sunlight. Into the distance, warped and indistinct in the heated air, the wizard's eyes see nothing but an endless sea of tall grass. The air on the horizon shimmers with the heat. There may be other things to see, but they are not clear to the wizard's eyesight.

Down below, the black bubble of Darkness sits within a circle 120 feet across. A section of the side is bowed outward, most likely blown out by Sly's Fireball. The Walls of Fire have also cut 20 foot paths into the grass in a crosshatch pattern, but so intense has been the heat that the grasses seem to have consumed all fuel before catching to the surrounding grass. So far, that is. One by one, the Walls of Fire wink out. The smoke that rises into the heated air, though is evidence that the danger of an uncontrolled fire has not yet been completely averted.

As the Walls of Fire vanish, Peerimus walks across the circle to the platform. It's a simple double X cross braced at five points. Atop it is the deflated remnants of a large leather skin. Examination reveals that the skin is reinforced with a double, no, triple layer of leather and then coated in wax. The simple wooden scaffolding upon which the skin once stood does not appear strong enough to climb up upon, especially for the enlarged druid. Odd, though. Peerimus' nature trained eye catches the character of the wood. It is well planed lumber. Hot dry grasslands are not known for an abundance of trees. And the trees that grow in such a climate tend to be small and twisted.

The ground around the scaffolding is still damp, though the dirt and ashes are drying quickly in the heat. (Craft Alchemy, Knowledge Nature, or Survival DC10 for the following: Highlight to display spoiler: {The remnants of the liquid have no affect to the touch. It does not appear to have colored either the wood, the leather or the ground. It leaves no appreciable scent. What little you can collect upon your fingers from the inner layer of leather is essentially tasteless. A taste leaves no harmful affects. For all intents and purposes, it might just as well be water.})

Jaeden pulls at the collar of his armor. He eyes the bare-chested half-orc. On the verge of advising him to armor up, Jaeden is now not so sure that would be a good idea in this heat.

Smoke still rises at the points at which Firn'gaer's Walls of Fire had been burning, but the fierce crackle of fire is now gone. Not even a breeze rises to disturb the stillness. The place is uncomfortable in a way that grates against the essential goodness within each of the party. This must be where the others had waited, knowing that the Children of Chaos would come. But why? Did they actually think that the entire group would fall to the predators of these grass covered plains? What could they have had in mind? Better yet, where are they now, and what are they planning for the future?

Savin says to Peerimus, "We need to stamp out these fires while you start to activate our circle friend. I don't see any reason to stay here do you? We should be able to explore enough to get a feel for this place while we wait the hour."

Savin will dart around stamping on fires tryintg to put them out and keep them from spreading.

A quiet and once again calm Jaeden Ohm surveys the results of their battle. A look towards bare-chested Magog births a feeling of vulnerabilty. He almost says as much but a wave of dissiness washes over him and he reconsiders. For now the warrior goes to Dalek and removes one of his water skins. He takes a long pull before tossing the skin to the closest of his companions, Jasper.

"Anything of note?" He calls out to both Peerimus and Firngaer.

The gnome looks about and for miles and miles there is nothing but grasslands. He is not exited by what he see.

"There's nothing but grass as far as I can see." He shouts down to the group below.

He lands a few minutes later. "The darkness is a Deeper Darkness spell [Spellcraft DC28] I would think it would have a couple of purposes. It keeps the sun off and it makes scrying more difficult. At least that's my opinion."

"Faraday can you teleport us without a signature to lock onto?" He says to the artifact assuming it was brought out. "That maybe a problem otherwise. If we can't get back quickly, we should stay out here for a day or so in the darkness and decide. I'm worried about the town, but I don't have means of teleportation. Not that distance anyway. In the morning I can erect a structure or two and we can decide our next course of action. Specially since they've taken out the urgency."

Peerimus and Yorrick  d20+19=37
Monday May 15th, 2006 3:10:00 PM

Peerimus nods to all as Firngaer returns and he walks back from the crude lumber structure. His thumb indicating the object, "I would guess we are near civilization Firngaer was unable to see or they brought it with them."

"The leather bag was well constructed and contained water. It's destruction instantly brought an awful lot of predators. If I combine all we know of this place I would say water is terribly scarce and it is as hot as The Vien was cold. As far as I see Faraday is our only current way out, provided we leave this land. I can think of one reason stay."

Peerimus looks at them all and then gives a shrug as he pats Yorrick, "And that is I am curious about it. No matter what is decided though, we are not going anywhere real soon so I am going to commune with Mother. It will allow me to see a bit further than Firngaer was able. Heat will mask things at distance and great heat as I suspect is the case will do so sooner."

"The Deeper Darkness should last some time correct? Or could they dismiss it from distance? Be that as it may, Faraday get yourself ready to return to the glade outside of Hermendar."

Peerimus then sits crossed legged, "I'll need about 10 minutes" and with that he closes his eyes and with staff in his overturned palms begins to whisper in a strange language where one word rings clear over again, 'Mother'

The Plains (DM/Al)  d20+22=41 d100=55
Monday May 15th, 2006 9:39:16 PM

Savin moves around the periphery of the circle putting out any lingering fires. They tend to the outside of the clearing, along the paths cut by Firn'gaer's Walls of Flame and within the arc burned by Sly's Fireball. To get to many of them, he is forced to step out of the area of Darkness. Like Firn'gaer, Savin is struck by the bright heat and intensity of the sun above. Somehow, though, the feeling is cleaner more wholesome in its fiery burn.

It is at this point that both Savin and Firn'gaer realize that the difference between the darkness and the light is not simply a matter of a difference in luminescence. The area within the darkness feels ... evil or unholy.

Firn'gaer descends, and feels the Darkness close over him. The feel is decidedly different than a simple Deeper Darkness spell. Certain Divine practitioners have been known to sanctify locations, blessing the very ground. Those of an evil persuasion, the wizard has heard, have been known to Unhallow an area.

"Uh, I can try to get us back," Faraday replies. "I'll try for the grove. But one warning, I wasn't there very long." Then he goes silent, from the previous two teleports, a sign that he is working.

Peerimus returns across the circle. His curiosity of this place and this land has been piqued. The bodies of the raptor like creatures and the bounding large-mouthed frogs cannot help but catch his attention. With his extensive knowledge of nature, he cannot help but make the connection between these creature and the descriptions of beasts that he has heard about. Rapke. The large ones fit the description. And the smaller ones might be what are know as Bounders. And if that's the case then this must be the Sargrass Plains. The details all fit. There can be no other explanation. But how far into the Plains are they?

(If Peerimus makes this information general, then anyone can roll Knowledge Geography for more details on the Sargrass Plains.)

Peerimus announces his intentions to Commune with Nature. He settles on the ash covered ground and begins drawing a spell from his staff. As soon as he begins there is a whisper, as of a breeze where there is no breeze. It comes from the somewhere to the south. (Listen vs DC25 for the following: Highlight to display spoiler: {You recognize the sound as a female voice chanting. If anyone with Spellcraft makes the Listen check they may make a Spellcraft check as well.}. If you'd like to add a Spot roll to this, you may.)

The land, meanwhile, makes its journey to Peerimus, speaking its tale into his ear. The ocean of tall grasses sing to him. Gently the grasses sway to and fro under the blue sky and the glorious heat of the sun. The grasses are the life of the plains. What little water there is lives within them. The terrain is flat and covered in grass for as far as the druid's spell can reach. And the only peoples within the grass, are those immediately around him.

As Peerimus communes with nature the others wait. Occasionally, eyes turn to Faraday as he works to take them back to Heranmar. Despite the artifacts own lack of confidence in its abilities in this respect, the group seems content to take the chance. What could happen, after all? Whatever it is, they may find out soon. Unless, of course, someone stops Faraday.

Peerimus does indeed tell all about him his opinion on thier present location, that of the Sagrass Plains. "Likely right Firngaer, and if we truly want to go where they are not waiting, I suggest where we found Faraday in the first Place. Faraday knows the area intimiately, No one say it out loud in case we are still being watched. It will take me 10 minutes to speak with Mother about our greater surrounding in the Plains. With luck we are near somewhere. Do not disturb me please."

The druid looks to Yorrick but the meaning is lost on the Kodiak. Perhaps the taint of where he is, has him slightly unnerved. Peerimus then slips into the spell that will take him the better part of 10 minutes.

I know we don't want to stay here but why go back to where we came from or even into hiding someplace else? We know our rivals have the ability to scry us and plant traps. Why are we going into hiding?

It will just give them a chance to set more traps. Mass teleports take time to prepare. Why aren't we trying to find them and finish what we started?"

Anywhere But Here. But ... (DM/Al)
Tuesday May 16th, 2006 9:45:01 PM

Firn'gaer considers Peerimus' news. He recalls an obscure passage from a book by an unknown madman. The book had circulated amongst the wizard's cronies for a while, mostly as comic entertainment.

"The Sargrass Plains of the Mythic Southern Lands
That Sea of Grass that rules the over all, split only by a
Fabled Crystal Mountain Range."

"Friends and comrades they were, from the City of Hooks
They dared to sail that unlikely sea
Never to be seen or heard of again."

Well, the Southern Lands are certainly no longer Myth. Still, the passage reads like madness. Where would one sail without any water?

Pulling out of his ruminations, Firn'gaer halts Faraday in the midst of his preparations. Why risk when risk is not necessary. Niobe and the caravan are no more than a two travel out of Heranmar. Jump to her instead.

Sly agrees. Of course, then again, if he sees Niobe again, he may have to apologize. But anything might be better than the evil that Sly feels in the ground here. It grates on his nerves.

Peerimus suggests another location without specifying exactly where it might be. There is the off hand chance that they are being watched, though no one has detected anything to truly indicate this. Then he slips into his spell, communing with nature.

Savin suggests yet another destination, and it is characteristically the direct approach. The Vision of Noxnyx found this group easily enough last time. There's no reason to believe that it could not again. Another jump, and this time they may stay put. The words of the woman certainly seemed to indicate that.

"Alright. Alright, hang on here. Just hang on." The voice of Faraday carries an edge of exasperation. "Where exactly is it that you want to go?"

The remainder of the Children of Chaos remain as still as possible in the heat. Sweat runs down their bodies, staining their clothing with dark rings of moisture.

Jaeden stays quiet and watchful as the others discuss their plans. The heat is uncomfortable, close to unbearable. He says as much. "Let me know if we're going to be here for much longer then an hour. If so I think I'm going to need to removes this armor."

He stops, head cocked in concentration and hand raised for silence.

"Listen. Do you hear that? It sounds like... a woman, coming from the south. It seems to be chanting..."

Firn'gaer
Wednesday May 17th, 2006 8:26:30 AM

Firn'gaer sees the obvious uncomfortable look to the warrior as the heat of the Sargrass Plains begins to effect him. "I have a remedy. At least a temporary one." The gnome takes off his boots. "Put these on." He says to Jaeden. "The magic should make the heat more tolerable." The boots are Boots of the Winterlands and act as an Endure Elements spell.

"I can give you a fly spell." He says to Savin. "Mine is still active. We could check out this chanting together. I'm leary of soloing in an unfamiliar area."

If acceptable, Firn'gaer will recall his fly spell with Mage's Lucubration and then cast it on Savin.

The Voice That Was There (DM/Al)
Wednesday May 17th, 2006 9:13:50 PM

Jaeden and Savin pick the chanting words out of what appears to all the others as nothing but a whisper of wind. Neither, unfortunately, understand what the words mean. And then, abruptly, the words stop. What was there not six seconds ago is now gone.

There is talk about investigating to see what it might have been Both Sly and Firn'gaer offer Savin a Fly spell. If Sly cast the Fly spell on himself, then all three might go.

Yorrick raises up and looks about. He sees nothing that has not been there before anywhere within visual range. Further, there are no new smells either.

Questions, questions, and more questions. If there was something there, where did it go? And if something went, why?

Peerimus continues his Commune, the strength of the Grass grows. No people. No free water. Just the flat flat plain and the Grass.

"Um, did you guys want to go somewhere?" The voice of Faraday.

The heat is hot, and from a look upwards, the large orb of the sun is not yet even at full noon yet.

Savin
Wednesday May 17th, 2006 10:30:11 PM

Savin looks at Peerimus and says, "You are our leader so you must decide. I vote that we go and find these counterparts and make them pay for Jones' death. If we leave, and go somewhere to refresh our strength, then they can refresh their strength as well. If we attack now, we have the advantage of surprise. They are hoping we were weakened by this encounter and they are right. We have consumed spells and lost a friend but if we keep playing to thier song, we will not win.

If you choose to delay our attack then we must plan our next attack carefully. The wizard's must scry the location and find out what we are walking into. If we don't know the scry spells then we must purchase scrolls or have someone else do it for us.

We also must have a means to follow them immediately if they flee again. We don't stay and battle their trap but follow immediately and attack them and bring them down. This might entail the purchase of teleport scrolls or some other means of travel but we must break the cycle and stop playing their game."

Savin looks at Firn'gaer and asks, "Can a teleport be blocked? That might be a way for to force them to face us? Imagine their faces when they try and teleport away only to have the spell fail." Savin grins a nasty grin.

I am ready to go looking for that voice if you want. We have an hour to kill before Faraday can move us."

He asks the mage, "So how long does this spell last? I don't want to end up down their with all those predators."

Savin is distracted by the heat, and the strange new sights and doesn't notice much.

Coming Up Empty (DM/Al)
Thursday May 18th, 2006 8:39:58 PM

Peerimus continues to rise to the peak of his spell while Yorrick returns to the ground and sits at his side. Sly, Savin and Firn'gaer rise into the air and head for the south end of the circle, while the others remain as still as possible in the heavy heat.

Savin is still itching for a fight. He makes a few suggestions and asks questions that receive no answers.

"Alright. Well, I'll just wait here for you to make up your minds," comes the voice of Faraday.

The three move over the ground to the edge of the curving sphere of darkness. They emerge into the sunlight and begin a search of the area where the sound of the whisper had come from. There is absolutely nothing there. No lurking foe. No tracks. No outline in the grass where a creature might have hidden. Not even a lingering rapke or bounder. Nothing. There is no physical evidence that anyone had been here.

Meanwhile, as they search, Peerimus' spell reaches its furthest bounds and comes to a peak at a full ten minutes. It reveals nothing new. For eleven miles all around, on land, in the air, and under the ground there is nothing but the flat plain dominated by the Grass. The Grass holds the water that Peerimus sees. But the spell, of course, does not reveal how to extract it.

Everyone in the group is covered in their own sweat. Father Jasper feels the heat build up beneath his breastplate. Even Sly in his light Mithril feels the heat. Everyone with armor feels a chaffing from the heat and dampness. Jaeden is more comfortable, thanks to Firn'gaer's boots. His damp clothing may yet dry under his armor, especially in this dry heat.

Even more daunting that this is the fact that the group has been here for no more than half an hour. There is still at least half a day before the close of nightfall.

Peerimus slowly opens his eyes and looksup to Savin. A passive look on his face, he stands. Turning to regard the monk, "This master atthe temple under which you studied. Did he repremand you for missing the lessons on patience good friend?"

Looking quickly to all the others, "There is nothing for 11 miles about us. All is this endless grass. Given the heat already building we should most certainly leave here."

Peerimus steps over to Yorrick and casts Endure Elements, sharing the comfort with his friend. "The problem is where to go. I can not scry on them since I know nothing about them. " The druid looks directly at Savin, "The spell does not work that way. You see, we can look in on them at apparent will, nor can we stop them from simply teleporting off. All we have is blind annoyance and the pushing drive to keep coming at them on thier terms weaker and weaker with each attempt. I stand by my original recommendation. Return to where we found Faraday, perpare and then try again."

Savin
Saturday May 20th, 2006 11:12:00 AM

Savin starts scratching at his ear digging out some nasty little insect that is trying to make a home there. He crushes it between forefinger and thumb and flicks it away. He looks down at Peerimus and says sardonically, "Well now that you mention it, the master did have a couple of conversations with me about enthusiasum and such. It was petty soon after that it was determined that I should leave the monastary and start my journeys to expand my knowledge and wisdom."

Savin changes tacks, "How come things can always look in on us but we never seem to be able to look in on them. I would think between a scry spell coupled with a new found friendly artifacts, we should have some advantages on surprise.

Don't misunderstand me Peerimus, I have no problems with regrouping and planning our attack. I am just hoping that you, as leader, can put together a vialble battle plan utilizing all of our talents both physical and magically and to take these scumbags down. Their existance offends me. Killing innocents just to get us to react is beyond redemption."
Bits of spittle launch from Savin's mouth as his says the last sentence. He is clearly upset, which is somewhat strange since the monk normally is pretty level headed.

"Make a plan Peerimus...make a good one. Even if we can only kill one of them before they flee again, it will be to our advantage. Pick a target for all of us to gang up on. Maybe the spelluser who helps them flee. Yes we must destroy these counterparts. They stand in our way."

Sunday May 21st, 2006 9:19:30 AM

Sly, Firn'gaer is not flying back yet, but since he can barely see a barn when it's in front of him. He will head back assuming he doesn't see anything. Otherwise he will react.

Collective Action (DM/Al)
Sunday May 21st, 2006 10:32:12 AM

As Savin returns the place at which Peerimus and the rest are clustered, Sly follows Savin flying a zigzag pattern within the shade of the sphere of Darkness. It offers some cooling relief. The sweat dries from his body more quickly. Ooops, then he changes his mind and goes off after Firn'gaer. It's tough to make up one's mind in this heat.

The two continue flying in the direction originally taken. The hump of the dark sphere is clear and from visible above the level of the grasses. But as the two move swiftly through the air, it dwindles and becomes small. Five minutes brings Firn'gaer and Sly to a distance of just over half a mile. They see no more than they did before, endless expanses of grass that stretch off until they fade in the blur of heat. They do notice, however that the dome of darkness is becoming less distinct with distance. Should they continue further, they may lose sight of it and become lost.

Meanwhile, Savin presses Peerimus for a direct attack upon their foes. They have shown themselves to be unrelentingly evil and worthy only of an immediate dose of the harshest of retribution possible. Peerimus, for his own part, explains his own views on the impracticality of attempting an attack at this time. After helping Yorrick with the heat, he again suggests returning to the Cave under Turtle Lake far away on the Northern Continent.

The druid's language is such, though, that it does not command. "Recommendation" is the word he uses. He as leader offers a recommendation and leaves it up to each member of the group to accept, reject, or offer a recommendation of their own. Even the half-orc, Magog might perhaps speak his mind on this, as leaving him here in this unfamiliar land would surely mean his death sentence.

Jaeden keeps watch with Dalek. They complement each other, keen eyes with keen ears. But neither man nor horse senses any danger. The sight of Sly and Firn'gaer flying off out of view is a bit disturbing to the security minded warrior. They can be seen beyond the darkness, but the tall grass quickly cuts them off as they travel away. And they have been gone for several minutes. How far would flight take them? Jaeden is the first to weigh in on the recommendation presented by their leader. He is for the idea, and he adds a recommendation of his own.

At last, to Jaeden's relief, Sly and Firn'gaer return. They are a part of the group as well, and their views on the destination are equally important. As half-elf and gnome re-enter the area of Darkness, the intensity of the sunlight on the plains comes home to them. Each feels the heat upon their skin built up from ten minutes in the sunlight. Each feels the beginnings of an annoying reddening sunburn.

Faraday waits by the side. A small tuneless humming comes from the artifact as it waits for a decision.

Jaeden Ohm (AC 25 HP 95/106)
Sunday May 21st, 2006 10:15:26 PM

Turning to Sly and Firgaer as they return Jaeden reiterates the decision at hand for their benefit.

"It seems we've two choices. We can press the attack now, assuming of course Noxy can locate our opposition, or we can return to relative safety and fully prepare. Both Peerimus and I are of the belief that preperation would be best and we believe the safest and most accessable place is the underwater cave where we found faraday. Savin is of the opinion that we should immediately chase down our foes as they should be depleted as we are. What do you two think? For that mater, what do the rest of you think?"

He eyes Jasper and Magog with this last sentence.

Savin
Monday May 22nd, 2006 7:21:46 AM

Savin listens to Jaeden and interrupts, "As I have said earlier, I have no problems with regrouping. If we do regroup, I just want us to be prepared with a battle plan.

We need to spy out our foes, and see their arrangements. This spying needs to be done either through magic or mundane means but we need the information .

We need to find a way to block their immediate retreat. A teleport block of some kind? Dispel magics, getting in the mages face and interrupt the spell?

We then need to have a plan to hurt them badly so they are weakened. Maybe Jaeden, you and I with Yorrick's assistance can initially attack a spelluser and bring them down fast. That degrades their ability to flee and to effect us in mass."

Savin will grin at Peerimus and say, "I did listen to some of my Master's lessons before they kicked my behind out of the monastary. We had several lessons on tactics that I paid a lot of attention too.

So if we have decided to go back to somewhere, lets go back to a place where we can prepare adequately. Maybe the Floating City? Plateau city? Faraday should be able to find those without any trouble and then we can get some of the resourses we might need? Besides the food should be better."

Sly follow Firn-gare where ever he goes, but not letting him out of his sight. He has comr to have great respect for this Gnome, his magic is powerful and will be a great wizard some day. Since there is nothing to tell them as who was wispering, they must go back so they will not get lost.

Then Sly follows his friend back to the black oven, apon landing Jaeden greet them what the going on since they left, "I agree with you Friend Jaeden! I have to rest and redo my Spells, and what do we do with our new friend here, we cannot leave him here to die?"

At this point Savin arrives, he is all in a fluster as to what we should do, and must have a good plan, and so he goes on. Sly tries to calm him down, "Friend Savin! You are too much like me! You and I want to do this Quickly! Ok! So we walk into their trap here, and they killed Brother Jones, and left Magog here, Why? Do they know that we have a heart and will not leave him behind? We better make sure that he is not carring any thing that can give us away to the enermy! But do have a little rest to think about our Counter Parts!"

Sly goes over to Luke, the dog is sleeping. A wise move on Luke part,

Peerimus
Monday May 22nd, 2006 5:01:16 PM

Peerimus gives Savin a good natured grin, "Ah yes of course, enthusiasm then." He gives the monk a good natured shoulder chuck and waits for the others to return. When all are assembled, "We of course will invite Magog t accompany us from this land. He was obviously pulled in by our last jump."

"We have several problems that need to be addressed and i have few thoughts on solutions to any of them. They know much more about us then we about them. I can think of almost no way to alter this. This area was well prepared ahead of our arrival. The structure was brought here, the area torched, the water container set up, the darkening spell everything, well in advance. So I will not be able to speak to the plants they once stood on as they are destroyed. I also have a feeling that voice you looked for was one of them and not knowing how much she overheard..." Peerimus shrugs.

"Faraday take us to the cave in which we found you." Looking at the others, "It is the only place I can think of that Faraday knows very well and they could not know of. They know Niobe, they know she was returning to Mud City. I do not want to put her in the middle of this yet. Once at the cave I have another idea. I know a bit more about them than they might like and it might be enough."

"Yes and I see no reason to alter the original battle plan and had the enemy stayed for longer than 2 seconds, the plan would have worked quite well. The enemy consists of a highly skilled rogue, a powerful fighter, an arcane caster and 1 unknown. I believe the woman a rogue and not a spellcaster who has been doing the talking, but that is not that relevant."

Firn'gaer

Made It To The Cave (DM/Al)  d100=40
Monday May 22nd, 2006 8:55:36 PM

"Alright, you sure? That's where you want to go, right? Alright. I'll try it." Faraday's voice wavers. "All by myself. Alright. It'll be alright. Maybe a little higher off the ground. Maybe. Safer that way. Was awfully dark in there. Awfully dark," he says in a fretful voice. Then the Circle goes silent, working, or so it is hoped.

In the silence, Jaeden attempts to draw an opinion from Father Jasper and the Half-orc, Magog. Both remain silent, Father Jasper in contemplation, Magog still appears to be looking for some non-existent grog.

Luke sleeps. And Sly tries to calm Savin as the monk expounds upon strategies from bringing this Evil to its knees.

Peerimus concurs with Savin's plans. And he adds to them with speculation on what they have encountered today and what they might expect from their opposition in the future.

Firn'gaer's concern is for the town of Heranmar. It's a reasonable concern. Where else would the Evil Others look if the group is not to be found on the Sargrass Plains? And once there, what is to stop them from going on a killing spree? Prompted by sheer anger. From spite. Or from the sheer joy that the Evil derive from listening to the screams of the innocent.

Time passes in the heat. Not a breeze blows. Sweat streams down the faces of those without magic protection.

Then the darkness splits and without pain or fear, each dog, bear, horse, human, half-orc, and half-elf feels his body split apart as well. Each watches with calm intellectual curiosity as their essence divides like a seam, coming apart only to stop ... at the tattoo on their hand. Then the halves of each person and animal begin sucking into the tattoo, Luke toward Sly's, Dalek toward Jaeden's, Yorrick toward Peerimus', Rufus toward Firn'gaer's. The scraps of everyone sucked up into the tattoos to reappear with an audible *pop* ...

... in pitch black darkness.

=== OOC ===

Lets have some fun with this, shall we? Everyone roll a d100. If you roll 75 or over you materialize over the pool and land in the water. Also roll for Luke, Yorrick, and Dalek. Rufus is alright.

No one has Darkvision, so no one can see. Not a thing. The air is cool. Refreshing. For now. The time is about noon. Long time to wait till tomorrow morning.

Savin listens to the Faraday speak and wonders why it is trying to attempt things alone? (OOC I am confused on who is holding which artifact? I believe I handed Sly the Bane of Seribone. Firn'gaer handed me the book while he left for a brief stint but I am assuming I handed it back? Should I not be doing this?}

Suddenly he feels himself split in two and in darkness. He feels the cool air and the ground in front of him and the pitch blackness. He says to no one in particular, "I have got to get one of those tattoos for light?"

Sly speaks to every body, "I'm all right! Luke are you with me? Is every body Here?"

Sly cannot see but he can still hear, so he'll listen to hear if there Breathing going on.

Luke answers, "Yes! Here." Luke cannot see, but he start to smell the ground, to locate Sly and everybody else.

Faraday does his dirty-work and it is dark. Not only dark, but the heat is considerably less. Without his boots to regulate his temperature, the gnome wizard visibly shakes in the chilled air of the damp cavern.

Firn'gaer finds his feet touching solid ground, d100 roll - 18, unlike some of his other companions. Firn'gaer casts a simple spell and along with other various light sources, a ring of floating torch lights dances about the area.

"Jaeden..." <chattering teeth> "I'll take me boots back..." <chattering teeth> "please..."

"But I am, Sly..." <chattering teeth> "That woman had," <chattering teeth> "No remorse. No, she was gleeful..." <chattering teeth> "When she killed the townsfolk with the..." <chattering teeth> "Cloudkill spell..."

Peerimus frowns at Faraday, "Typical." is all he says as the world about him alters. Instinctively he reaches out for strength and comfort. Yorrick is there of course and then The great Ursine is not.

All is dark, cool sea air, Wieghtless? Oh bother. The druid tries to suck in some air quickly. SPLASH

He quickly calms himself, he got a bit of air, no need to panic, just relax. [Survival 34] Peerimus forces himself to calm and takes out his Everburning torch. Orientating himself he kicks to the surface. [Take 10 swim 17]

Peerimus will get himself to the pool side and haul up and out of it, thanking any who lend him a hand. "I had an idea as we blinked out. First let me see if this pool will suit our needs. Don't fight the spell Jaeden, I'm going to try and scry on you."

Peerimus turns to the pool and casts Scrying to locate Jaeden. "We have a name of one of the attackers, with the description I received from the stones at the Abbey, I am hoping the big lug does not have the Will to fend me off. Now it will take me an hour Savin so you will have to curb your enthusiasm for that time. If this pool works to Scry on Jaaeden I will then attempt to get one of our enemy. If I can we may want to seriously consider going after him immediately."

"Our other option as I see it is to wait everything out here until morning and then return to Heranmar or possibly return in the night."

Images In The Pool (DM/Al)  d100=43 d100=85 d20+17=32
Tuesday May 23rd, 2006 8:42:03 PM

Sly, Luke, Peerimus, and Magog all find themselves over liquid darkness. They fall with a splash into the pool from which the Children of Chaos had emerged from Turtle Lake a week or so ago. The dark waters are cold, but they present no immediate danger to the four strong swimmers. Lights come out, first Jaeden's and then Firn'gaer's.

The swimmers pull themselves out of the pool.

Sly and Luke find trace of no others. No scent, no sight, no sound. The large cave appears as empty as it had been before.

Firn'gaer is first to feel the chill. Though dangerously cold by no stretch of the imagination, an experienced outdoorsman would know the dangers of hypothermia, and the need to keep warm or active or both.

The pool is large in the light of Jaeden and Firn'gaer's light. But it is a natural forming pool, and therefore a possible focus for Peerimus' scrying magic. Peerimus tests the pool first, focusing on a subject with a malleable will. He settles by the pool and begins the spell. An hour passes while the druid invokes the divination magic from the natural pool. A light forms in the dark waters. It is Jaeden's light, and Jaeden is holding it aloft in one hand. There is a soft whicker from Dalek from both from the pool and from the horse behind. Both are reflected unnaturally large across the broad expanse of the pool.

Next comes the real attempt. Peerimus concentrates upon the name, 'Scaor.' He pictures the hulking shape seen through the darkness. And he recalls the words of the Stone Arch back at the crumbling Abbey. For an hour, he pulls the bits and pieces together to assemble a picture within the pool.

The pool glows with daylight. Seconds. No more than seconds. An outdoors view. Straight line shadow cuts across the view, half shade half sunlight. Within the shade a large hulking form. It moves from dark to light. The face turns, green-gray, a troll face. Placid. Serene. Smile. Countless sharp teeth. The face looks toward the pool. Smile.

Then dark. Seconds. Only seconds and the scrying had been resisted.

The dark and cold of the cavern air creep into flesh and bone. The insidious chill can be like a leaden weight.

=== OOC ===

All who have been watching with Peerimus make a Spot Check, please. If you roll these spot checks, then I will assume that you have been waiting for the spell to produce results and have therefore been relatively inactive.

I'd like to know what each of you've been doing since Peerimus began his Scryings two hours ago.

Sly and Luke
Wednesday May 24th, 2006 8:05:55 AM

Sly laugh at Peerimus and the others a they fall into the water next to him, NEXT to Him?? "I'm standing on solid rock??" Then he remembers that he's wearing the Feather Fall Ring! He wiggles his feet?? and sure enough he's in the air and slowly decending into the water the cold cold water. "WoW! what a way to cool off!"

Sly follows Luke to solid ground, goes up on the slab where he first meet Faraday, Now he's cold and wet, he takes off all his clothes, then will cast a Flaming Sphear. He will put the fire ball high enough for all to walk under (even the the bear and the horse) and dry them selves off.

The first thing Sly dries off is his Bedroll of Comfort for Firn-gare to take the chill off his old bones. Sly will take His Spell Book out, Siting on the cold floor of the cave and while every thing is drying, He unwraps the oil cloth from around the book, then turns to his spells, reading carefully and hope his things dry soon, because his but is getting cold!.

Luke shakes the water off his fur coat, when his master put a big ball of Fire up in the air, he will go near it and dry his fur, but first he tells Yurrick his friend "That will teach my pointed Ears Boss, not to laught at the rest of us."

Peerimus
Wednesday May 24th, 2006 5:04:58 PM

The scrying fades and with a Harumph, Peerimus sits back. "Too quick, but at least he's not running through town eating peasants. The real question is will the others is we don't show soon. It has been two hours since they left us in the Sagrass, and soon they will know that we scryed on Scaor the troll."

Peerimus takes a moment to wipe a drip from his face and push his still wet hair back over his head. "We are terribly depleted, tired, wounded and annoyed. Firngaer how are we coming with Noxy giving us a heads up on how many of them are in the same area as Xaos?"

Savin
Wednesday May 24th, 2006 5:59:27 PM

Savin will hear the splashes and wince as he imagines his friends in the water. When they come out, he knows they will have to be dried and warmed.

"Can one of you wizards make some kind of fire that will give off some heat? Anyone who fell into the water needs to change clothes. I can loan a spare set if your stuff is wet. We don't want colds when the bad guys either show up here or we track them down."

Savin will not watch the scrying process but sit apart from the others and do some meditation, resting his mind but also watching over them from a slight distance.

Firn'gaer  d20+23=36 d20+6=15
Wednesday May 24th, 2006 7:34:03 PM

Firn'gaer uses his Prestidigitation spell to dry one of the wet ones.

He too watches the scrying interested in the spell. He watches as the troll looks into the scry and smiles. "He's a spellcaster?" He says in almost amazement.

[Spellcraft (DC36) on Scrying and being able to detect the sensor.]

[Spot DC15]

"I'll check in on it." He says taking Noxnyx out and focusing his will for look in on Xaos. "Sorry Savin, unless you want me fireball it I can't help."

He's not the one I'm worried about.

Jaeden Ohm  d20+8=20
Wednesday May 24th, 2006 9:19:03 PM

As Peerimus prepares his test scry Jaeden removes the loaned boots and returns then to Firgaer with a thanks. He re-equips his own and gives his supplies a once over. Knowing that the scry is coming Jaeden has little difficulty in picking it up, but as requested he does nothing to resist the effects.

With nothing else to do he watchs the results of the Druids second attempt [spot 20].

After the Scrying (DM/Al)  d4=3
Wednesday May 24th, 2006 9:33:35 PM

After climbing out of the water, Sly conjures a Flaming Sphere. He and Luke begin to dry things, none the least of which includes themselves, off in the intense heat. However, after only half a minute, the spell ends, and the Flaming Sphere vanishes. Many of Sly's things are still wet.

Savin, wisely or not, calls for a fire. There is no fuel for a fire upon the bare stone floor of the cave. He offers a change of clothing, and then relaxes into stillness.

Peerimus gathers what information he can from the brief glimpse that he go of Scaor. He asks Firn'gaer to use the Vision to look in on the Chime of Xaos.

Firn'gaer uses a more conventional method to dry his sopping companions off. After an hour, they and their belongings are, for the most part, dry. Then he waits at the pools edge for the scrying to bear informational fruit. The image, when it comes, lasts only a moment. And it is clear that the troll somehow had the Will to resist the scrying. But before the image was ended, Firn'gaer and Jaeden as well, catch three bits of information. In the shadows behind the troll is what appears to be a wall. It's surface is patterned as though fashioned from planks milled from rough logs. The ground below the troll's feet is dirt, though more even than one might expect from a natural setting. And Jaeden notices a dark discoloration on the back of the troll's hand. A tattoo? It could very well be a tattoo.

But, that look. It's more than obvious to the wizard how the scrying itself was thwarted. But the troll seemed to actually see the scrying sensor. Then Firn'gaer recalls a tome of old magic in which incidents are recorded of scrying sensors being spotted by the sharp of eye. Maybe it was that. Or is it conceivable that a troll could master the ancient skills of Scrying?

At Peerimus' request, Firn'gaer takes out the Vision and with Faraday's translation sets the screen on the location of the Chime of Xaos. There are five color-filled markers upon the screen. Four of them move about, while the fifth remains stationary. One of the moving four behaves in an unusual manner. It fades in intensity and then returns at seemingly random intervals. As Firn'gaer watches, yet another colored signature enters the view from the lower edge of the screen. Of the original five, four converge on the new one and they cluster together. The unmoving one remains where it is. Yet another one enters the view from the right side of the screen. It makes it's way first downward and then across to join the others making a total of six excluding the one that has yet to move at all.

The cold of the dark cavern is subtle. With long periods of inactivity it creeps into flesh and bone, stealing the body's warmth and replacing it with a fuzzy head and trembling limbs. The wilds are no place to let down one's guard. Nature can be a harsh mistress and can kill as easily as an enemy's blade.

=== OOC ===

Peerimus, Savin, Firn'gaer, Jaeden, Father Jasper, Magog. You have all been inactive in the cold. Unless you have either a spell that mitigates cold or a magic item that does so, please make a Fortitude Save vs DC15. On a Failure, Lose 1d4 INT, 1d4 WIS, 1d4 DEX and 1d4 STR. Add a +4 to your roll if you have the Endurance Feat. There are many mundane methods for staving off hypothermia. Feel free to employ them.

Note: My description of Scrying is unconventional. No. Lets be frank. It's wrong. It's how a DM I once hand handled it. After looking things up, I realize the mistake. Rather than just fail the spell, I thought I'd give you a look. You have what you have. Some bits of info, and a troll who knows he's been scryed upon.

Also, need some sort of decision here. What do we want to do? Stay here till tomorrow? Use Faraday to go to the location of the Chime of Xaos? Try to make it to Heranmar? What are we doing here?

Savin  d20+11=29 d20+6=16

Savin, totally in tune with his body, realizes that his body's heat is being leeched away from the cold. He stands and starts moving about. He jumps up and down and tells the others who are sitting still to move about to or at least to huddle together and share some body heat.

"Peerimus, time to make a decision. We need to get out of here. It was a mistake to come and our strength is only being sapped some more. Yes I agree that we aren't ready to attack our foes but Nonyx and Faraday to get us to a safer location. They must know of a town or someplace we can travel to where we can refit, get warm and plan our next move without freezing to death!"

Sly and Luke
Thursday May 25th, 2006 7:04:23 AM

Sly wonders as to why his spell did not last longer?? But given the enermies that they are playing with, he's not suprise.

His clothes are partly dry, so he'll just have to bear it. It's not the first time he has to wear damp underroos. The others are setting cold, So he might as well share his bedrole of comforts with the rest of his team mates. He get's out if his bedrole (But Luke will stay wher he is) Sly dresses then checks his equipment His Mithrel Chainmale is dry, his shild and weapond are all dry, his pants and boots could be dryer.

Since he cannot consentrate on his spell book, He will huddle with the rest of the group, Sly will try to get Luke to exit the sleeping bag. then hand it to the one who is shervering the most. "This is a sleeping bag of comfort, it will warm any two person at a time. When your warmed up and can funtion again, pass it on to the next two who needs to warm up."

Luke is very comfy in the besrole, But Sly want his out with him. "OH! Alright! I out." Luke goes to lay down with Yurrick.

Jaeden Ohm (AC 25 HP 95/106)  d20+9=21
Thursday May 25th, 2006 3:49:53 PM

When Savin mentions the cold Jaeden realizes that the cold had been seeping in for the past hour and that it may soon spell trouble. He stands up and moves around to get his blood circulating but stops short of breaking a sweat.

While he waits for a descision to be made he unpacks his bedroll protects himself from the cold as best he can.

IF the blankets in his bed roll are insufficient to keep him warm he will get up again and stay active.

Firn'gaer
Thursday May 25th, 2006 8:23:01 PM

"Thank you." He says getting his boots back from Jaeden. You could not have seen someone put boots on any faster. "Thanks much better." He says as the magical warmth of the begins to set his body at an even temperature.

Other than that he waits for suggestions on their next desination.

Applied Woodsmanship and the Burden of Leadership (DM/Al)
Thursday May 25th, 2006 9:41:42 PM

Savin makes a case for leaving the cave while the rest of the Children of Chaos go about mitigating the creeping chill of the dark cave with whatever means are at their disposal, magic or mundane. The animals seem to be fine, especially huddled together. With blankets and the few magic items designed for extremes in temperature, the cold of the cave does not appear to be anything that the group need worry about. With the application of a little vigilance, that is.

Everyone looks to Peerimus for a decision on whether to go or to say. And if to go, to what destination. He contemplates the decision, the weight of leadership as crushing as the heaviest stone.

Peerimus and Yorrick
Thursday May 25th, 2006 10:29:51 PM

Peerimus is a bit lost in thought and doesn't answer immediately. His spell protects him and so he does not pay attention to the damp cold of the cave, though likely he should have been. It was far more his charge to see to the safetly in such matters than to lead the group. Perhpas that is the issue, the distraction. Savin's voice finally filters through the haze of thought, "Hm? You were saying something Savin?"

The druid begins to nod at Savin, but it soon becomes apparent he is not agreeing with him. "Get your blankets and bedrolls out, the air is cold and damp but not so much that with some insulation on the floor and an additional layer you'll be fine."

Peerimus moves to look over Firngaer's shoulder, "Seven eh. Or perhaps the unmoving one is the Chime and they set it down" he says quietly almost to himself. "Still makes at least Six." he breathes again, "Salmon in a stream." The druids face scrunches and he sits back down.

The enemy does not know where we are, but they can scry. So can we though my first attempt a failure. Perhaps try again. Provide the illusion of a prelude to an attack that never comes. Be bothered all! This is not your strength. First scry falied, second likely will as well, being not as powerful. That leaves, staying or going yet somewhere else, but where? Faraday can go where Noxy points but doesn't seem much for anywhere else "Faraday. Can you take us anywhere accurately besides where Noxy shows?"

Father Jasper + Magog  d20=11 d20=13
Thursday May 25th, 2006 11:19:24 PM

Both The Father and Magog also start moving about and try to get the blood flowing again as they also feel the stiffness of the cold start to set in and make attempt to counter them FJ ( 21 fort) (Magog 25 fort ) both also lay there bed rolls down and change clothing to a dry pair.

Savin
Friday May 26th, 2006 10:18:54 AM

Savin is about to say something but decides to shut up. He will keep moving around casting glances at Peerimus. He has said his piece, if the druid ever decides to move, he will do his best to keep everyone alive.

Jaeden Ohm
Friday May 26th, 2006 11:17:03 AM

While Peerimus turns his attention to Faraday Jaeden moves over to sit near Father Jasper, and once again bundles himself in blankets. He speaks softly to the Priest so only he can hear.

"Father, I wanted to talk to you about our last battle. This group, the 'Children of Chaos', may be destined to battle chaos but in all honestly we've had extreme difficulty fighting well together. I think we finally started to pull things together last battle but there were still some mistakes. Most notable to me was how exposed you became to the enemy. I... I understand you were only trying to save Jones, but the result was that you almost got yourself killed. I'm not saying you shouldn't attempt to help your comrades... just, if you must do so try to be more mindful of the large picture."

If Jasper answers he listens attentively but otherwise stays seated in companionable silence.

Good or Evil (DM/Al)
Saturday May 27th, 2006 3:13:42 PM

"Er ... " Faraday's voice is full of hesitation. "Not really. More than accuracy though, the problem is safety."

"Sorry ... " And the Circle goes uncharacteristically silent.

The group does as best they can in the cold and the dark.

Jaeden begins a talk on strategy with Father Jasper. If the man of peace understands the language of war, he gives no sign. But the battle ahead will surely be difficult and dangerous. As Jones gave up his life on the Sargrass Plains, one or more of them may fall as well in combat with this Evil that stands to match their Good.

The count of opponents is now up to six, possibly seven. One is most certainly a troll with unknown abilities. Could such a group have been in existence all this time? Roaming about the land doing Evil in equal measure to the Good works that the group has been dispensing? Did they come into being as did this group? Arrived upon foreign shores to evolve through changing membership, the clarity of their purpose growing with each new adventure? If not, then what might explain their existence?

Are such questions even important in the face of the fact of the stark necessity to either kill them or to killed by them? In the end, which will prevail? Good? Or Evil?

=== OOC ===

Unless you say otherwise, I'll assume that you have all agreed to stay until spells have been recovered and move things forward to that time. Don't let me change your mind, though. Do what you think is right.

Also, with as many healing spells as Father Jasper has, I don't see any problem setting everyone back to Full Hit Points either.

The gnome wizard finds this is a perfect opportunity to scribe his new scroll. So he will find a spot as dry and level as possible in the cave. Taking out book and scroll and inks he reads the scroll and with careful manipulation of the quill he pens it into his book.

Scribing [Detect Scrying DC29]

On Scribing Spells - OoC (DM/Al)
Sunday May 28th, 2006 11:38:55 AM

Scribing a spell into a spellbook is a 24 hour process. You arrived in the cavern about straight up Noon. Since them there have been at least two hours spent on Peerimus' scrying spells. That makes it at least 2PM. You could all conceivably be prepared with new spells by 6AM tomorrow morning. If you wish to scribe the spell, then the rest of the party must wait an additional 8 hours until 2PM the next day.

Or, rather, I suppose, I should say that everyone would have new spells prepared except for Firn'gaer. Because there's the matter of Rest. He would get none and therefore would get no new spells for the day.

Firn'gaer
Sunday May 28th, 2006 12:02:19 PM

Because of time constraints Firn'gaer starts to scribe but decides he doesn't have time. So he places the scroll and ink in his bag next to the several other spells he has waiting scribing.

Day of Destiny or Day of Death (DM/Al)
Monday May 29th, 2006 9:06:36 PM

The darkness of the cavern is timeless. No sun, no moon, no stars, nothing to mark the time except one's own body clock. The pangs of hunger mark the day. The call of sleep marks the night. Only Peerimus knows with any certainty what the real time might be. It is the Mother and Father who are the Wold that whisper the cycles of the Day into his ear. (You've got a high enough Survival not to need a roll, Peerimus.)

Firn'gaer opts for rest over scribing the new spell. It's always a wizard's temptation. But, with the danger at hand, to yield to temptation could mean death.

Aside from the cold, the cavern is quiet and restful.

Peerimus calls the new day. In the Land above, the Sun is just peeking over the lip of the Wold. Time to prepare. Time for decisions.

I'll assume that you kept a watch. And I'll also assume that you all took care not to die of Hypothermia overnight.

I'll need new spell lists from all casters.

And ... I'll need a direction. What do you want to do now?

Tuesday May 30th, 2006 8:33:28 AM

Firn'gaer rests his few hours and spends several more in a relaxed state. In the morning, he prepares his spells. Peerimus suggestion for the fighter to take a field commander position is good news to the wizard. "That's a good idea. You have the most tactical experience and training of all of us." He says.

He again looks in on Xaos in the morning to see how many stand guard.

Peerimus and Yorrick
Tuesday May 30th, 2006 12:27:45 PM

Will post again later on Al's ansswer.
Basically Peerimus wants to prepare spells wait for two hours, use Noxy to locate them, activate Faraday, use some boost spells and go in. Peerimus wants to go into combat and thinks Jaeden should be the 'Field commander'
Peerimus proposes that Jasper study Dimensional Anchor and as soon as possible hit one of the enemy with it. Prefferably not the spell caster.
Below is his presented spell list on the thought he is shifting and entering combat. Any thoughts?

Al would there be adaquate room to summon a few bears within this cavern?

[ Yup. That's a big cavern. No problem handling a few bears. -- Al ]

Jaeden Ohm
Tuesday May 30th, 2006 2:26:27 PM

"I'm honored Perimus." Jaeden replies to the druids suggestion of him taking command in the field. "I only ask that you make our overall plan clear to me so I have some sort of guidelines within which to act."

Peerimus 2nd
Tuesday May 30th, 2006 3:54:32 PM

"My overall plan, erradicate them like vermin Jaeden." The druid continues, "They will likely be expecting us. Last time we arrived very much as they wished. This time I want to use Noxy to deliberately appear nearby, but not on top of them. If they have the 'field of battle' prepared again, I would rather fight on a different field. We can take a good guess at the time of requesting Faraday to make the jump and actually jumping. To be more precise I might swith Airwalk for a scry. That way I start the scrying, Use Niobe or even one of us as the target. After I begin the spell, count to 60, and ask Farady to transport us. I will finish the spell leaving a hole of about 60 seconds til we jump. Enough for all boosts to be placed and for me to summon several more grizzly bears and to shift so I can talk to them."

Peerimus pauses and hopes jaeden approves so far and then finishes his initial outline. "We port in, Jasper targets any non caster with Dimension anchor, if they want to rabbit, it will be without that person. Firngaer waits on the opponent spell caster with Dispel magic, I grow myself. Yorrick and the other 2 bears. From that point on in the fluidity of battle your skills and knowledge would be set to task to allow us the faster and most direct victory."

Peerimus looks around, "If any have options speak up. For a different strike I could not bring the bears and use more direct spells or even lend my own dispelling skills."

Peerimus will swap Airwalk for Scry.

Jaeden (Second, illegal post)
Tuesday May 30th, 2006 6:50:25 PM

"I understand. As for the bears, I'd keep both options open and make a judgement call after the scry. If we'll be entering a tight area probably best to leave them out of it and effect them directly. If we have a more open field and and need their size to define a line they could be extraordinarily helpful. I only worry that they won't understand me directly."

Jaeden turns to address the Children as a whole. "Despite the death of one of our numbers, I think we worked together better that last encounter then we have since I've been a part of this group. The death, and the only other serious injury, came from moving out of position and exposing oneself. If we stick together and move as a unit I have every confindence in our success."

OOC Notes for Al and Everyone
If our plan works out we've got a big battle coming up. Assuming the NPCs are our equals (or even near equals) we have a serious disadvantage because they are all run by one person. Thus, the tendancy will be for them to work as a group. The opposite is true for multiple players in a single post per day format so we'll need to try our best to make it work.

If, during the course of battle, anyone feels that their character should be doing something different then Jaeden is calling for (and if Al says this is ok) please make a 'free action' post to shout to him so he can incorporate it into his overall plan. I'll do my best to check the board multiple times to cover for this.

Savin
Tuesday May 30th, 2006 9:40:28 PM

Savin will walk over to Peerimus and say, "I think you are making the correct decision on having someone else take charge of the tactics during a battle. When you assumed a different shape during battle, you would lose the ability to speak and direct us as a group."

Savin will say to Jaeden, "My skills our mobility, speed and special attacks. I am an expert in grappling, and getting my opponents on the ground. I can be useful in taking weapons away from them as well. After we close, I prefer to use my staff and if I have time to prepare, I can activate my boots of speed, enlarge myself and use my tattoo, I can dish out a lot of damage.

Still I see my primary role as more as a scout and a fighter second. We seem to rely more upon magic then stand up fighting since we don't have many straight fighters besides you."

Savin starts moving around, rubbing his shoulders and then his hands together. "Can we please get out of this cave? Are we going into battle or going somewhere else to prepare. I am tired of sitting in the dark."

Bad to Worse (DM/Al)
Tuesday May 30th, 2006 9:45:59 PM

The hour just after dawn is spent in preparation for the dire day ahead.

Spells are prepared. Gear packed. Weapons and armor checked. Strategies are reviewed and refined.

... Luke is hungry ... (So what else is new?)

Firn'gaer brings out the Vision of Noxnyx, and with some translation aide from the Faraday a scene with five dots of intense color appears on the screen. Four of these are in motion. One of these four, just as yesterday, fades then reappears in intensity.

The screen jumps a degree outward. Two more dots appear, one on the left and the other on the right side of the screen. These too are in motion, circling the others in the center. Seven dots. The same as yesterday.

The screen jumps again another degree outward. The dots are now small. And now ... there is an eight. It sits motionless near the bottom of the screen. There is no real way to judge the scale of this visual representation, but in relative distances, this last dot appears separated by a fair distance from the others.

So now there are eight. Seven if one of them is the Chime of Xaos. The news keeps getting worse and worse.

=== OOC ===

I'm waiting for final instructions. How do you want to do this?

And, I'm fairly liberal with the Speech as Free Action thing. Feel free.

BTW, Peerimus, I'm not sure what you wish to accomplish with the Scrying.

"That way I start the scrying, Use Niobe or even one of us as the target. After I begin the spell, count to 60, and ask Farady to transport us."
What is it that the scrying is supposed to do?

Still need spell list from Father Jasper.

Oh, and btw, Jaeden is right. It's up to you to try and out coordinate me. ^_^

Sly (AC 25 74/85 hp) and Luke (Ac 21 65/65 hp)
Wednesday May 31st, 2006 7:28:15 AM

Luke looks up to Sly, "Count 60?", as Luke look at his paws. "Only have 16 toes??"

Sky want to laught, but pat's Luke head instead, "That's alright Luke! I'll do the counting, you just follow me, OK!"

Luke answers "K, Then have fun?"

Sly answers him with a great big smile, "Yes! Luke, We'll have fun."

They both listens and wait for the events to happen.

-Al my understanding is Faraday takes about an hour. scrying takes an hour, It's the best timepiece I can think of. The scry should complete a few rounds before Faraday teleports us, if the guess on an hour for Faraday is accurate

[ Ahhh. I see. That makes sense. Especially if you wish to wait for an hour and time things to an accuracy of Rounds. Thanks. -- Al ]

Firn'gaer
Wednesday May 31st, 2006 11:18:36 AM

Firn'gaer looks into Noxnyx. What he sees isn't good. The number of guards grows. "Faraday, is it possible to fool Noxnyx's visions?" He says to the talking artifact.

Firn'gaer focuses on the image that wavers in intesity. "Could Ilsidur be involved?" He poses the question to the members familiar with the dwarven cleric. "One of the images fades and grows. Ilsidur changed before he left something to do with balance or the like. Could he be bringing other chosen together?"

"I understand Savin, and thank you for taking the time. I suspect that how you'll be needed will depend on to what extent they're expecting us. We'll see."

Other than that Jaeden stays quiet and listens to others.

Sly and Luke (Part 2)
Wednesday May 31st, 2006 6:33:18 PM

Sly ask Firn-gare a question, "Firn-gare if Noxnyx can see Niobe, who is a old member of our group? Could Noxnyx See other old members? Like Ilsador the wizard, or like our lost archer Trace? Even the big Minotaur that left us in Ice Vain? Hmm! I wonder??"

Visual Aids - OoC (DM/Al)
Wednesday May 31st, 2006 8:21:04 PM

Stripped of the shifting background and shooting motes of silver, the Screen of the Vision of Noxnyx looks something like this: The View

Savin
Wednesday May 31st, 2006 9:24:36 PM

Savin interlaces his fingers and cracks the his knuckles. He then rolls his neck and more popping sounds are issued. He spreads his legs shoulder width apart and easily stretches to his right ankle.

He looks up and asks, "Are we going to attack? How many people or creatures can Faraday transport? If we are going to attack, why not summon some allies? Nothing like having a few bears or apes on your side when fists start flying. That way the numbers will even out a bit."

Savin looks over at Jaeden and asks, "So battle leader. What is my mission. Should I go after a spell user or what when we go?"

Time to Go (DM/Al)
Wednesday May 31st, 2006 9:41:04 PM

"Fool Noxy?" There is silence for a moment. "No one's ever had a reason to try. Hahahahahaha. Eons and ages, and no one's ever tried. Hahahaha ... "

*ehem* Even without a throat, Faraday makes a passable imitation of throat clearing. "Sorry. I don't suppose that's very funny, is it? Ironic maybe. Truth is, I don't know. But if no one's ever tried, then why would they know to try now? Then again, maybe they've done it because they don't know that no one's ever tried it before and that's why it works."

Firn'gaer also poses a question to the others. Sly had known the cleric the longest. But both Savin and Peerimus had traveled with him for a while as well. There's one fairly sure way to tell. If anyone remembers the last place that they saw Ilsidur.

Peerimus puts his plan into motion. He casts his scrying spell and begins counting. At a certain point, he instructs Faraday to begin the process by which the party, with all of its adjunct and summoned members will be teleported to the location on the Vision's screen.

The time that Faraday requires to complete the jump affords plenty of time for talk and strategy. As the group plans further, the dots on the Visions screen continue to move. They move in limited areas. Three move about within a very restricted area around a fourth that moves not at all. Three others follow random patterns around a roughly path that circles the other four. The final one, toward the bottom of the screen also does not move.

Time passes. How slowly time passes when one is waiting. It seems that the moment will never come.

Then several things happen at once. The dot at the bottom of the screen begins to move. It moves upward toward the others.

And ... a vision appears in the dark pool. The scrying has completed. Time to go.

=== OOC ===

You have several things that you can decide for yourself now.
1) What was the count after you cast your scrying?
2) Are you going to cast your spells?
3) And where on the screen do you want to go? If you don't choose, I'll choose for you.

The View

Jaeden Ohm
Thursday June 1st, 2006 11:48:28 AM

When Peerimus begins his scry Jaeden hurries over to get a glance at what noxy has to show. There is at least one thing for the warrior to be happy about.

"It seems to be that lone chaos signature to the south south east can be one of three things. It can be an enemy, an artifact, or one of us we either haven't met or who has left our company. In any of those cases that seems to me to be the best place to enter. If its an enemy we can eliminate one through force of numbers before the others get involved. If its one of us or an artifact then we get to it and secure it immediately. I'd like to enter there if we have that kind of control."

He turns to Savin.

"I can't give you that kind of instruction yet. Without knowing the environment telling you to hunt a specific person could lead to you exposing yourself. Our first priority is securing a formation. Lets bring in Peerimus bears, more to block then anything else, and see what happens. I will say this. If there is an obvious mage, and if you can reach them without exposing yourself to a swarm, then yes I'd like you to take them out. But, if doing so exposes you, or if it would leave a glaring path to our own mage or priest then I don't want you to take that risk."

Jaeden Ohm Part Two
Thursday June 1st, 2006 12:15:11 PM

He turns back to the group as a whole.

"Positioning with be key here. In general, don't put yourself anywhere where someone can get at your back. Try to set up so that we have the advantage of numbers against any given foe. As long as we work together we should prevail."

With that said the warrior calms himself and mentally prepares for battle.
