Gargalus Arrives (DM JohnP) Tuesday May 9th, 2006 10:23:54 PM
The foursome are still standing near the monster cages where they were when Toros received the message from Xenia warning them of the approach of Gargalus. Well, at least three of them are. Nauthiz'Ull did not want to do battle with his future god so he ran back towards the entrance of the lair.
Toros had also argued for flight but both Garrett and Appolo convinced him that they needed to provide a diversion for Xenia.
The ankhegs and owlbears start moving to the rear of their cages. Gargalus must be approaching and they creatures have learned to fear the future god.
The trio don't have to wait long before they see some fey-creatures in the throne room. Then a tall human man dressed in a robe appears from behind the throne. The human ascends the dais and seats himself on the throne. Garrett and Toros can see him make a negligent wave of his hand as he ascends the dais. It looked like Gargalus ... and this is obviously the future god ... cast a spell but with less effort than usually required.
Spellcraft DC 20 - Highlight to display spoiler: {Quickened Spell Resistance}
Gargalus speaks once he is seated on the throne. His voice echoes through the entire lair, presumably some magical effect of the throne.
"Welcome! Come closer! I want to see who Alemi sent to challenge me in my lair."
"Evidently you have made short work of the minions I sent to Oshirr House last night. And of the ones who made it back here to the compound. But did you and Alemi really think that you could challenge me in my lair? Really?"
"Alemi does this again and again. The old man is nothing but predictable, you know. He recruits some group of innocents and convinces them to do his work. Did you stop to think why he didn't dare to come here himself? It's obvious, of course."
"He and I are too much alike, after all. he burdens himself with these moral codes and time praying to the Gods. He thinks small and limits himself. I don't limit myself that way. I've made the most of myself. Alemi knows that directly challenging me would result in his death. So he sends minions like you to die in his place."
"But I'm growing weary of this. It interrupts my work, after all. I'm prepared to give you a chance to live. Here's your choices."
"One - Turn and run, like your companion who just left. His actions may be wise or cowardly, or both. If you run, you can take a message to Alemi for me. And you'll always remember that you ran from the greatest task you ever faced."
"Two - Fight some of my creatures. I want to see how they perform against somewhat challenging opponents. Defeat them and you can leave with your heads high and filled with pride."
"Three - Stay and serve me. I sometimes need some assistants who are smarter than the average orc."
"So, what do you choose? What fate do you want to grasp?"
Garrett Wednesday May 10th, 2006 9:20:06 AM
Garrett thinks quickly to himself. Fighting Gargalus is bad, but we need to give Xenia time. Running is not an option.
Garrett looks to Toros and Appolo. "I think option two is the best at this point." Unless someone objects, Garrett responds to Gargalus "Let us see if you have minions more challenging than the orc and kobold fodder you throw around. I am interested to see what other monstrosities you have created. Let us do this outside though If you want them to have a real challenge. Things are too limited in a small cave."
Garrett turns toward Toros and mouths the words "tell Xenia."
Garrett (supplemental) Wednesday May 10th, 2006 9:22:38 AM
"We will defeat your creatures Gargalus. And then we'll leave and give your message to Alemi."
Toros Wednesday May 10th, 2006 9:51:50 AM
For a moment Toros thinks to look like being in the side of Gargalus would be the best diversion. But then... He quickly makes up his mind and talks:
"I think our friend has said what is needed to be said. Lets fight with your monsters outside."
Then with a quick pause, Toros contiunes:
"And the fourth person of us did not run away because he was afraid of you, but because he has chosen not to harm you, we have not intended to kill anyone afterall unless we are being attacked. You came first to our castle... However, you are right that afterall it is all between you and Alemi, which is not muxh of our business. However we all will be happy to challenge your new monsters for some good practice, especially having seen already those miserable of yours... And then who knows one day we can learn to respect each other."
Toros - addition Wednesday May 10th, 2006 9:57:23 AM
If he does not cause others to wonder or worry, Toros himself wonders how he has come up with such talk. He tries to catch the reaction of Gargalus and his friends.
And there is still time before talking to Xenia.

"Nauth, better to meet us back here, your God invites us for a challenge with his monsters..." Toros whispers to Nauth in response..., hoping it will not take any attention except Garrett and Appolo's.
Nauthiz'Ull [addendum] Wednesday May 10th, 2006 1:32:14 PM
His head cocks to the side as a very strange string of sounds echoes in his cerebrum.
"...your God invites us for a challenge with his monsters..."
Now that is indeed a precarious notion. How could the one who is going to be my savior sitting in there now asking us to test him creations? This is beyond absurdity.
He stops in the shadows and returns to the lair as quick as possible, head held high and proud with a look of indifference set upon his face.
Appolo d20+15=22 d20+13=26 Wednesday May 10th, 2006 2:41:11 PM
Appolo would really rather just kill Gargulas, but Garret is probably right.
When gargulas arrives he smiles wickedly at the man who would be god."If that is what you think of Alemi why don't lead your troops personally and take him on yourself, destroying him once and for all.I think you are the one who is afraid.Hiding here in cave sending out worhtles morons to do your dirty work and failing time and agian.Besides who said Alemi recruited us.Maybe we recruited him.Incase you can't tell we aren't exactly from aeound here.So be it we'll just sluaghter your pets and burn your place down if that is what you wish."With that Appolo turns and walks calmly back outside slipping into the shadows as he does so.MOve Silently 26 Hide 22
Talking with Gargalus (DM JohnP) Wednesday May 10th, 2006 11:24:07 PM
The party presents a variety of responses to Gargalus' offer.
Garrett and Toros agree to fight, but want to do so outside. Appolo seems to agree to the same.
Meanwhile, Nauthiz'Ull is outside wondering where everyone else is. Then he gets a message about returning to fight inside. He is on his way back in when he runs into Appolo heading out.
After listening to their arguments and insults, Gargalus chuckles lightly.
"Can't make up your minds, can you? Inside, outside. Run, hide or stand and fight. Alemi always manages to find people like you but, unfortunately, never anyone with a lick of sense. Or politeness, either."
"Why don't you ..."
Gargalus doesn't finish what he was going to say because a screaming alarm starts sounding throughout the lair.
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Gargalus cocks his head and looks towards Garrett and Toros, the only ones that he can see at the moment. A smirk comes across his face.
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
"Well, it seems that the other half of your group has announced itself. Classic strategy, rather. Create a diversion while part of your group sneaks in to retrieve whatever you have been sent to fetch. So you sneakthief tried to get the Feystone, did they? I hope they're careful with it. It being part of Eberyon's nature, it can be tricky. Yes it can."
The alarm keeps screaming, getting on everyone's nerves.
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
"So, I'm assuming that you're in communication with the other half of your party. Why don't you tell them to make themselves known and join our little party. It would be interesting to see how my pets deal with backstabbing rogues."
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
"I really wish that you would. Because then I can turn off that alarm."
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
"Or else I can simply send some of my pets to deal with them, then have them come back here to deal with you."
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
"What do you choose to do? Maybe, to interest you, I'll show you what you have to fight."
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Gargalus makes a motion with one hand. Toros and Garrett hear a cage door swinging open. After a moment, what looks to be a large halfling steps in front of the throne. It's taller than any of you, at least as tall as Garrett when he's imbued with righteous might. The giant fey-halfling grins evilly down at the party. When it speaks, though, the voice is that of a normal halfling.
"Want to come and play with me and my brothers?"
And the alarm keeps screaming.
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Xenia's Voice Wednesday May 10th, 2006 11:54:33 PM
"That's me Toros! I got the Power Thingy. Gonna make a break for it."
Garrett Thursday May 11th, 2006 9:01:53 AM
Active spells: Shield of faith, +3ac, 52 rounds remaining. Greater Magic weapon: +2 enhancement to longsword, Duration: 9 hours.
A slight smile forms at the corner of his mouth as the alarm begins to go off, and garrett sees that Gargalus realizes that he was duped by the "classic strategy". Garrett then ignores the issue of Xenia, counting on the rougue to find a way out.
"You don't seem all too concerned that we have your feystone. Are you overconfident, or do you not really need it anymore?" Garrett asks Gargalus, also trying to buy a little more time for Xenia.
"And we would be glad to kill your aberrations for you. Let's do it outside though, it's too loud in here."
Garrett waits for Gargalus' response, and then heads outside to prepare for the battle. All the while hoping Xenia makes it out and gets back to Oshirr house with the feystone.
Toros Thursday May 11th, 2006 8:40:22 PM
Hearing that strange alarm and listening the comments of Gargalus is quite disturbing for Toros until he hears the relieving message from Xenia.
He walks next to Garrett to the gate to meet with Nauth and Appolo.
In response to the giant halfling and his boss, Toros says...
"OK, all of us, lets meet outside then."
Nauthiz'Ull Thursday May 11th, 2006 10:28:41 PM
The ranger stop sin his tracks at the sight of Appolo. A look of confussion crosses his face but he shrugs when Toros shows up as well.
"Outside, yes, that sounds perfect. I feel much more at home in the open."
The look of inner turmoil is rolling through his face, into his chest and slamming into his heart. He knows that he will not draw on Gargul himselm, but if his future lord wishes him to be a test for his new minions, well, that is quite fine with him.
DM Note (JohnP) Friday May 12th, 2006 12:25:52 PM
Hi all
I'm off to a conference in Chicago for a week. While I'm away, I'll be plotting about what minions Gargalus sends to capture Xenia and planning battle tactics for those mysterious giant fey-halflings that have been revealed.
I will make the next DM post a week from today.
Don't be surprised if you see some roleplay posts in the interim. However, I can't count on being able to spend enough time at an Internet Cafe.
So, remember ... use this time to plot your strategy. And decide what funeral service you want if Gargalus' minions are too powerful. Of course, you could always run.
The Villain's Response (DM JohnP) Friday May 19th, 2006 10:55:55 PM
Gargalus laughs at those who respond to him. All the while, the alarm continues to scream.
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
"That toy? It has been useful, yes it has. But I'm sure that I have now created what will be my masterpieces! I didn't want to have to go outside, but if you insist, we can do so."
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
The future god waves a hand and his stone throne lifts slightly into the air and hovers. Another nonchalant gesture causes several low rumblings. The source is revealed in a moment when more of the giant fey-halflings show themselves.
"Let us go outside then. Are you going to try to run away with your tails between your legs? Or do I have to pen you in?"
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Gargalus remains seated on his hovering stone throne while the party moves out. It could be moving silently or maybe the party simply can't hear anything over the screaming of the alarm.
"By the way, are you going to tell your thieves to come out so I can turn off that infernal alarm. Or do I have to have them hunted down?"
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
When they advance far enough, the party sees that four of the giant fey-halflings are following them out. Another five or six remain with the bugbears and ankhegs.
Toros Sunday May 21st, 2006 12:02:40 PM
OOC: Well come back JohnP, hope you had a nice time at Chicago.
"As I said, we will all meet outside" Toros talks calmly addressing the future God's last question, while walking outside to meet with his friends.
Xenia's Voice Sunday May 21st, 2006 2:06:00 PM "Where are you guys? Any heads up on what I can expect when I come up out of the Lair? All the orcies pretty much cleared away? Can I make a straight run for the main gate? Or should I try for the east wall?"
Toros's voice Sunday May 21st, 2006 5:16:19 PM
"All the orcies are cleared away but.., well, I am not sure you will like this, Xenia, but, we are invited for a party with fey giant halflings by Gargul. He knows you try to steal his thingy, and his invitation also includes you... I do not know what to suggest you really, perhaps once you are out you should make a run to the castle. If you stay with us then there is danger that we can lose the power thingy. Perhaps we all should run away, when we are out of the cave. Especially, it is very hard for Nauth to stand against his God... I do not know really... I really do not know what our future God can do to you and us, however so far he seems to be fair..."
Toros responds to Xenia, trying to prevent his words to be heard or seen by others, except Garrett, with whom he is walking together to the gate of the Lair.
Xenia's Voice Sunday May 21st, 2006 10:14:50 PM "Huh? Invited??? What do you mean 'Invited?' Can we make it? If you run, will you be able to make it out or not?"
Toros Monday May 22nd, 2006 12:27:28 AM
"Basically Gargulus has given us three options: Join him, Fight with his monsters or run away, accepting the defeat. But he offered them, before he realized that you stole his thingy. He does not seem to be much worried about losing the power thingy though, as his new monsters seem to be more important to him at the moment. Are you sure you are really safe, I mean, can reach to the gate?...
After you reach to safety, we can also run; however, when Gargulus realizes he has really lost the power thingy, still I am not sure he will allow us go that much easily."
Toros looks like talking to Garrett, while actually he addresses Xenia. However, his voice is high enough to be heard by the protector, and the taur hopes some comments or reaction from Garrett about what he has said right now. Should they consider running away rather than fighting with the brand-new monsters as the best option? Would this be dishonorable or clever, as it fits to their original aim afterall...

"If she can escape with the stone, we'll make a run for it. If she can't, then we continue to fight his minions for it."

Toros Monday May 22nd, 2006 9:27:01 AM

Striding outside so that he can scout a high-ground position, Nauth looks to the rock-face that the cave is on. He looks to see if there is a way to scale the wall for a defensive vantage point. Knowing that his bow can handle quite long distances, he just wants to stay out of the reach of the giant mutations.

Back Outdoors (DM JohnP) Tuesday May 23rd, 2006 10:46:54 PM
The party tromps back outside, picking their way through the bodies from the fight between the prisoners and the fey-creatures. Finally they pass through the gate and come into the sunlit compound. Nothing seems to have changed much from when they fought their way in.
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
That annoying alarm is still ringing, however, telling the party that Xenia remains free somewhere inside the lair. That heartens them, especially when they look back and see Gargalus following them with the four giant fey-halflings following them. The giant fey-halflings stop and pick over the bodies of the fallen prisoners, picking up choice parts of the goblins and bugbears. There's something appalling about watching a giant halfling poking holes through the skull of an orc with a surprisingly sharp talon, then raising it to their lips and greedily sucking the contents down in one gulp.
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Gargalus looks at his champions and chides them with a word. "Don't bother with that! If you fight smartly, you can have what little brains these champions of Alemi possess!" Reluctantly, the four giant fey-halflings follow the floating throne carrying Gargalus outside. Once outside, the throne rises up into the air and the four fey-halflings spread out.
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Ahhhhh-ooooo-waaaaahhhhh!
Aaaaaahhhhh-aaaaaahhhh!
Gargalus' voice booms out over the compound. "LET'S SET SOME RULES FOR THIS COMBAT, SHALL WE?"
Once he has everyone's attention, his voice drops to a more normal level.
"First off, once combat begins no other combatants may join in. So you don't have to worry about any more of my minor creatures."
"The exception, of course, is if your thieves decide to join in. Then an equal number of my champions will join in."
"The second rule of my little fight club here is that the fight is to the death. I'll be merciful, though, so you can yield at any time by acknowledging the superiority of my creations."
"Third, if you run my creatures will hunt your down without mercy."
"Finally, I simply want to watch. But if you attack me, it is at your peril. And you must surely realize that you have no hope of harming me."
After his little speech, Gargalus soars upward so that he can easily watch the coming fight.
"Feel free to make any preparations you desire. You'll need it."
Appolo keeps hiding in the lengthening shadows near the entrance. Nauthiz'Ull looks up at the hillside and realizes that it would be difficult to climb. He spots a good route upwards but is only able to make it 10' above the ground, not yet out of the reach of the giant fey-halflings. Climb DC 15 due to the good spot roll
Toros Wednesday May 24th, 2006 3:38:21 AM

As the rules are set, Toros prepares for the coming battle, while waiting to hear any news from Xenia.

"And I think it's also maybe dangerous."
"Anyway, I'm pretty sure I can make it out of the Lair. We'll see what happens from there. Giant Halflings?" Xenia's subvocalized voice manages to sound incredulous.

"Nauth my wunjo, toe to toe they will hit like a berserking Sne Kjempe. I would suggest you avoid their reach and do some damage with your bow. If you can draw one of them off of me and Toros, that would be a help."
Garrett's preparations: Cast shield of faith cast Divine Power cast Righteous might drink potion of displacement
Garrett confers briefly with the others to see how many things they will cast/use so that he is not waiting around with his spells in effect. Looks like Garrett starts one round after Toros begins.
(I'm at work, and don't have my books with me, but I am going to cast these in the order of longest lasting first to shortest lasting last. I will adjust the order in the AM, as well as post the effects.)
As soon as Garrett finishes his last prep item, he turns to Gargalus. "Alright Gargalus. Let's do this. Dropping some of these monstrosities will be a pleasure." Garrett starts to move in on the giant fey halflings, trying to keep Toros close so that neither of us gets surrounded.

The party completes their preparations for the coming battle.
Toros makes his preparations, casting a number of spells and downing some potions. Finally, he readies himself and his wands.
Appolo moves deeper into the shadows, readying himself to attack from stealth.
Nauthiz'Ull tries to climb higher on the cliff face. Resting for bit, he also downs two potions since he's not entirely certain what these fey-things really are. DM JohnP - The following spells are still active from before: Longstrider, Comprehend Languages, Cats Grace (10 rounds remaining).
The DC for climbing the cliff is 15. You have 3 rounds (6 moves) to attempt to move higher. The first ledge is at 30' above ground (out of the reach of the fey-trolls) or you can go higher if you like.
Or you can use the potion of Flying from Garrett.
Garrett also casts a number of spells to ready himself.
All the while, Gargalus and his minions watch with amusement. Each of the fey-halflings watch carefully as the party prepares itself. Except for the one who would be watching Appolo. That one simply sniffs repeatedly and turns its head back and forth.
After seeing what the party does, the four giant fey-halflings huddle together. They migth be discussing strategy or working some kind of communal magic. Together, they start working a series of gestures as they utilize some magics taken from whatever fey-creature they were melded with. After the flurry of spell casting, the party is facing many more fey-halflings. Twelve fey-halflings spread out across the entrance to the lair, staring at Garrett and Toros.
The spellcasters in the party tried to keep up with the pace of magical effects used by the fey-halflings. If they're lucky, they might be able to tell what they might be facing. Then, finally, the twelve giant fey-halflings make another series of gestures. And then everyone sees twelve images of Garrett stretched across the entrance to the lair.
Gargalus' rich laughter rings out across the compound.
Ha, ha, ha, heh, heh! This should really be fun. Go ahead, attack my pets!
Party gets first attack, if they choose. The fey-halflings are currently shown in yellow and marked as such. Once they engage in melee with Garrett, they will be shown in the same colour.
Toros - OOC Thursday May 25th, 2006 11:44:03 PM
Waoww, would be a good final fight!
Have a couple of questions beforehand...:
- Can we distinguish the three (one other is invisible) FHs from each other, in that sense the mirror images of one FH from others..?
- Would the magic missiles destroy the mirror images as a successfull attack would do?
DM JohnP - Q1 - make a Spot roll, and I'll tell you what Toros can see about the images. And they're all visible. Of course, the idea of invisible mirror images ... is interesting.
Q2 - Any physical targetted or area attack, or targetted magical attack will dispel images. Area effect spells, such as Fireball or Flame Strike, will harm only the real version and the images will reflect the damage.

Toros watches the mirroring of their opponents and the dispeling of the mirrors. He tries to determine where their real opponents are. (spot, 14) Then he activates his wand and magic missiles hit the two giants or their mirrors closest to Nauth (9 hp damage to the one at AA-AB, 8 hp to the one at AB-AC, which are out of reach of Garrett's dispelling, if I am not wrong).
"Garrett, I will watch you back and heal you" whispers Toros, before the protector moves forward.

Then Garrett casts a Dispel Magic spell in an attempt to remove some of the apparent combatants from the field. The effects of his spell are many and varied.
All of the images on the left side of the entrance disappear, cutting the number of combatants who look like Garrett to less than half. Then another giant fey-halfling appears. DM JohnP - using rules for area dispel, so a maximum of one spell is dispelled from each target within the area. And, that images created by a spell within the area can also be dispelled.
Then the Protector moves ahead to meet the minions of Gargalus.
Off to the side, Appolo waits to see what Gargalus' minions are capable of doing.
Behind him comes Toros. He activated his wand and destroyed one of the images. The other version of Garrett was damaged by the Magic Missile. Then the liontaur moves ahead in Garrett's shadow.
========================================
Hovering overhead, the future God of Death claps his hands.
"Brilliant! Brilliant! Eliminate the distractions, focus on the task! There's hope for you yet!"
The newly revealed giant fey-halfling moves forward until it is just within reach of Garrett's sword. As it does so, both Garrett and Toros notice that sound in the area ceases. Spellcraft DC 22 - Highlight to display spoiler: {Silence spell is active on creature}
Then the fey-halfling swings a surprisingly long arm at Garrett. It's swing cannot break through the Protector's magical defenses. Claw - misses AC 27
The multiple images of Garrett then move ahead, each carefully moving just close enough to swing at the Protector. The party sees a flurry of blows strike at Garrett but none connect. Claw - misses AC 16 Claw - misses AC 12

Toros activates his wand one more time, and the missiles this time hits G1 (5 hp damage), G2 (7 hp damage) and FH (6 hp damage). Reducing the number of mirror images, the taur looks carefully at the remaining ones so that he can distinguish the illusionary wounded garretts from their "Garrett". The force effect of the magic missiles should give him enough clue(spot check, natural 20! If Toros can use 5 luck points for this check, it will be 30). He also hopes that his friends follow the impact of his magic missiles to determine whom to attack.
Then the liontaur moves and dives into the shadows again, hiding just behind the Garrett. Even if his eyes can make mistake, the shadows won't deceive him. The surrounding silence gives him a strange comfort in the shadows. (hide, 26 & Toros is reduced to medium size now; move silently, 27 + the impact of the silence spell)

Combat has finally been joined between the heroes and their giant fey-halfling opponents. Or whatever these things really are ...
Toros acts first and has the satisfaction of seeing one of the images of Garrett disappear. Four images still remain, however. The liontaur then retreats into the shadows, coming to rest in the shelter of Garrett's shadow. Something seems unusual and it's not just the unnatural silence.
Garrett gets a brief flicker of something after the creatures attacked him. Highlight to display spoiler: {The creatures aren't actually giant fey-halflings but something that is tall, greenish-brown and powerfully built}. He swings his sword twice at the image of himself that didn't disappear when a Magic Missile hit it. His large longsword cuts deeply both times into the strangely rubbery-feeling creature.
After Garrett's attacks, everyone sees two long, greenish-brown arms tipped with clawed hands laying on the ground near Garrett's target. The claws continue to open and close, grasping towards Garrett.
Then Appolo runs out of the shadows towards the giant fey-halfling. His longsword and shortsword both dance out and inflict big wounds into the creature. Again, one of his swings left a large piece of greenish-brown flesh lying on the ground.
Nauthiz'Ull hovers in the air, trying to determine which target to shoot at.
========================================
Gargalus is chuckling to himself as his chair hovers overhead.
The giant fey-halfling spins and tries to hit Appolo. Only one of the creature's attempts to hit the pirate connects, leaving a row of nasty scratches across his torso. Claw 1 misses AC 19 Claw 2 hits AC 25, 9 damage Bite misses AC 20
Then, seemingly from nowhere, another of the giant fey-halflings appears and starts attacking Appolo. With the advantages of being invisible and flanking the pirate, it manages to connect with both claws and then rips them from Appolo's body. While the rogue is recovering from that, the creature leans in and tries to bit his face off but only manages to nick a shoulder. Creature attacked from invisibility and flanking, so +4 attack and Appolo is considered flat-footed (-4 to AC) Claw 1 - hits AC 29, 7 damage Claw 2 - hits AC 22, 12 damage Rend - auto hit, 13 damage Bite - hits AC 24, 7 damage
The first image of Garrett steps closer and tries to bite the Protector, missing badly. It can't do more because its arms are lying on the ground. Bite - misses AC 16
The final fey-creature wearing Garrett's image now steps away from the Protector and tries to finish off Appolo. It only hits once but that is sufficient to nearly put Appolo on the ground. Claw - hits AC 23, 11 damage

The party keeps fighting against these fey-creatures belonging to Gargalus. By now everyone has realized that these creatures are capable of illusion magic, covering their normal foul appearance with some other shape. Beneath the magic, they're actually a tall, spindly greenish-brown creature with nasty claws and a mouth full of fangs. Garrett and the others who have attacked the creatures have also determined that they share the same resistance to damage as their smaller brethern while keeping the regenerative capacity of a troll. The troll heritage of these monsters is evident in the way that the severed body parts continue to struggle, grasping towards Garrett.
But that sort of contemplation is for another time. A time when one of their companions isn't about to become food for the fey-trolls.
Toros slips through the shadows cast by the fey-trolls to arrive at Appolo's side. He reaches out with his wand and heals the rogue, hoping to keep him on his feet long enough to survive the coming fight. One or another of these fey-trolls beside him still radiates a Silence spell.
Deciding to take the pressure off his companion, Garrett swings twice at the fey-troll between himself and Appolo. Both swings hit home, splitting the monster into two parts. Garrett is also still affected by a Silence spell on one of the surround trolls.
Hovering in the air, Nauthiz'Ull slides forward slightly fires three arrows at one of the fey-trolls. After his third arrow strikes the fey-troll, it finally slumps to the ground. The flames on the arrows continue to flicker, sending plumes of acrid smoke into the air. DM JohnP - Please keep a running total of arrows. If this keeps going, you will eventually run out.
Finally, after all of this, Appolo rolls and scrambles to get away from the fey-trolls. He successfully eluses the two creatures that could attack him and moves to the west.
========================================
Gargalus begins giggling. The arch-villain apparently still has some great surprise waiting for the party.
One of the fey-trolls moves over slightly and attacks Toros. None of it's attacks manage to hit the magically protected liontaur, though. Claw - miss AC 28 Claw - miss AC 14 Bite - miss AC 8
The multiple images of the other fey-troll shuffle about and then all lash out towards Toros. Again, the liontaur's magical protections are too great for the threat presented by these creatures. Claw - miss AC 18 Claw - miss AC 18 Bite - miss AC 10
Then, to their surprise, the pieces of flesh severed before by Garrett and Appolo wriggle and stretch. Before the party's eyes, three small copies of the fey-trolls rise to their feet and look around. The new fey-trolls immediately look towards Garrett and Toros.
To make matters worse, Garrett can see the the fallen fey-trolls are simply dormant. The gaping wounds in their flesh are already beginning to knit and reform.

There's a possibility that people might be able to keep up with Garrett's speech, if they can read his lips.

Formulating some plan, Nauthiz'Ull moves forward and fires one arrow at a fallen fey-troll. The flames on the arrow send another plume of acrid smoke into the air.
Appolo then tosses his last remaining bottle of Alchemist's fire at one of the fey-trolls. He hears and smells sizzling fey-troll flesh, grinning with satisfaction. Then the rogue runs to the south. Fire damage = 5
Before he does, Toros dashes over to heal him. Both trolls attack but cannot hit the lucky and agile liontaur. Then he turns in case the fey-trolls pursue him. Fey-troll T2 misses AC 29 Fey-troll T4 misses AC 12, natural 1

Gargalus swoops his chair overhead, looking up when Xenia shouts.
"Running! You're running from my challenge! If you don't stand and fight, I shall keep you here!"
Gargalus whistles and a winged creature emerges from his cloak. The arch-villain gestures in the direction that Xenia has fled and the thing takes flight after her. The thing looks familiar, somehow. Knowledge Planes DC 13 - Highlight to display spoiler: {Imp}
Meanwhile, the fey-trolls turn on Garrett and try to overwhelm him.
The nearest large fey-troll grabs for the Protector and easily grabs him. Garrett gets a chance to swing his sword at the fey-troll and hurts it severely. When the troll tries to grip Garrett, the Protector just barely slips free. Repeated attempts by the fey-troll to grapple Garrett are also unsuccessful. The small fey-trolls suddenly concentrate and duplicate themselves many times over. Multiple copies of the creatures now surround Garrett. The images intermingle until the Protector can no longer determine which was the original.

Xenia speeds along in silence. Straight and directly as she possibly can along the path back to Oshirr House. She has a head start, and she has the speed. Any concealment she can muster can only be a bonus.
The shadows gather around her arrow straight form. The wind stings her eyes and whistles by her hears, but alert she is for any ambush along the way.

Get back here! Toros! Get back to Garrett! Wunjos hold together!"
There is a panic in the ranger's eyes as he watches his life-long wunjo become surrounded by these abominations. He does not know what to do except take down the biggest threat to Garrett. There is no way that Nauth is going to let his wunjo fall to these creatures. A barrage or arrows scream from the trusted bow of Ull'Heimdall desperately trying to eat through the tough troll hide.
He flies another five feet closer to Garrett, trying to balance his skills with his movements. At this moment he sees no real threat to himself personally and returns, fully, to the material plane. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: actions move.17S

The liontaur attempts to escape from the grasp of the fey-troll. Being smaller now seems like a problem, not a benefit. Still, cats are nothing if not flexible so Toros begins to twist and turn to escape from the fey-troll.
After he escapes the fey-troll, the liontaur tries puts some distance between himself and the monster. He dashes down to beside Appolo, planning to heal him again next round.
