Skull Battle Round 1: HERE THEY COME!!! [DM Inge] 3d4(3+4+4)=11 Monday June 12th, 2006 10:30:48 AM Olyn Highlight to display spoiler: { tells the gypsies to run towards the Inn without him. He instead will turn around facing the danger that awaits his friends hoping to show them the way. As the Gypsies said, the Inn is just over this sloped plain... Guidance most needed to your friends.
Olyn watches Jillia and the Gypsies run to the Inn and he and his Celestial Bear remain. To the Canyon! Olyn in his turn also runs towards the Canyon he and his Hippogriff crossed a while back. It will take some more time to get there that it took flying, but perhaps he will be just in time to see his friends crossing the bridge...}
Dietrich realizes the cards for this game were set before they ever got to this place. The Huntsman knows this place best and all you can do it run for the Inn. You can only hope Olyn has safely reached that place with Jillia... Who knows what else the Cleric has encountered on his way... if he found the way in the first place!
"Soon the hounds will appear. Keep your long-range weapons ready. Keep the spells ready. Now will be the time to use them." He calmly says to his friends. The accuracy of his warning is nearly impossible to grasp...
Rose still has some turns left and thanks to the spell she can keep up with the rest. Jack checks on her from time to time and should Rose's spell fail he will help her. (you've been running for 15 turns now)
Vauhwyt eyes the skulls and suggests that the party circle around them.
"As much as I love to fight skulls," she says, "it is more important to get to the canyon fast. Come on, go around these!"
Everyone agrees and running and puffing they travel around the skulls. Trying not to get closer than 70ft.
[Normally a character can run for a run for a minute without a problem. Generally you can run without a problem but then you'll have to rest for 1 minute. All but Olyn make a new Con check for constant running, now DC13 or else you are fatigued. A fatigued character can't run or charge and takes a penalty of -2 to Strength and Dexterity. Taking a rest will eliminate the fatigue. ]
The skulls notice the group of warriors trying to pass them by. There's nothing better than live skulls to feast upon! Those are still nice and fresh, dripping with blood and goo when they are bitten from their torsos. Once you peal away the furry skin thick fluids begin to pour from eyeholes and ears and should these skulls have had thongues the fluids would have caressed them...
12 skulls take to the sky and begin the pursuit!!!
Among them 3 Horse skulls, 3 Ape skulls, 3 Bear and 3 Boar skulls. They immediately begin "running" towards you. The Horse and Bear skulls seem to run much faster than their companions (Run Feat) and close in on you at 5 times their regular speed (30ft * 5 = 150 ft per turn!)
Next rounds the large Horse skulls and the bear skulls will crash upon your rear guard!
But right now an agonising shrieking deafens your ears! The leading Bear skull opens its jaws sending forth a sound that feels like ripping through your bones.
Rose and Jack take 11Hp sonic damage. Rose and Jack make Will Save DC8 to negate secondary effect : paralyzation (A paralyzed character is frozen in place and unable to move or act. A paralyzed character has effective Dexterity and Strength scores of 0 and is helpless, but can take purely mental actions)
The pack of skulls fly perfectly through this little forest and are closing in on you. Only the Horse and Bear skulls are closing in on you as apparently they can run faster than most of you... oooh golly! Time for some action ! __________________________________________________

It has been a whole minute and a half (15 rounds), and Vauhwyt is tired. [OOC Con check is 7.] She feels fatigued! She says, "Mookie, maybe an animal trick would slow them down!"
"Good idea, Boss!" says Mookie. He and the Unseen Servant unloose an animal from the Bag of Tricks. It is a Wolf! Mookie commands it to distract the skulls and delay them, tripping and biting.
[OOC Note: Since Vauhwyt is carrying Berlon, he should not be fatigued!
DM Inge: Berlon is not affected from the running, but according to your rolls Vauhwyt is. She is fatigued.
And if he is affected by the sound, Vauhwyt might be too?
Berlon was not affected by the sound. Only Rose and Jack
Please let me know! If necessary, Vauhwyt makes the Will save no problem!]
No need to - perhaps next turn ;-)
[OOC Note: Since the party has only been running for a minute and a half, Rose's spell to speed her up should still be active, right?
Right
Vauhwyt's too!
Right! ]
The liontaur calls out to the group to let the Wolf slow the skulls down and keep running! If Rose is paralyzed, she shouts out to Jack and Vorelle to pick her up and keep running. The Liontaur keeps running herself!
A fatigued character can not run anymore till he or she took a rest. Vauhwyt can go at her max speed + the spell effect - but no running
If any skulls follow, she asks Berlon if he can turn them while she carries him!
The Wolf has a readied action to trip any skull that tries to fly by him.

Theodore & Macaw HP 21/26 AC 16 (mage armor) d20+1=5 d2=1 d20+1=17 Monday June 12th, 2006 7:15:49 PM
Theodore feels the physical demand of the running catching up to him. (Fort 5) But he quickly retrieves one of Wardd's coins and flips the magical disc. It comes up heads and Theodore feels a second wind suddenly come upon him. (Wardd coin toss is 1, so I get to reroll Fort check. Got a 17!)
The young mage notices Vauhwyt's attempt to distract the pursuing skulls. If it shouldn't work, Theodore will pause for a moment to cast obscuring mist. If nothing else, it should give the group a couple more seconds to come up with something else.
Jack 20AC 36/47 HP mage armor 2 hours d20+5=17 d20+3=18 Monday June 12th, 2006 9:44:37 PM
Jack feels the sound drain energy from him. Although tired he finds some reserve. Turning to fight the bear skull would be dangerous, if only he had his own weapos... He continues to the canyon.
Vorelle [AC 17; HP 57/57] d20+7=24 Monday June 12th, 2006 11:33:22 PM
Vorell is still breezing along, hardly seeming winded (Con check 24). When the skulls move toward the party, she pauses as if thinking of firing at them, but Theo casts his spell, concealing the party and making archery problematic. Still holding her bow, Vorelle continues to run.

OOC. As the rest of the group is now in combat mode I can not bring you to the bridge instentaniously. I will make sure the timetable matches sooner or later :-) Damn you've got a way to make live hard for your DM's :-D ! I'm sorry I can't add a lot more for you right now but please do keep posting.
Make spot and listen checks as you run to the bridge. You never know what comes along!}
Most are unaffected by the constant running and continue to move towards the Bridge. Hopefully they can all outrun the skulls -- dispite the fact that apparently they seem to fly a lot faster than most of you can run!
But running in this dreaded place seems to weigh heavy on Vauhwyt... her otherwise soo fast paws fail her this time... no longer can she run. Perhaps the burden of carrying Berlon became to much for her. Her speed lowers... She realises it will be impossible for her to outrun the skulls and she will need to make a stand.
Seeing how her companions continue to head for the canyon she calls out for the group to keep running. Mookie, aided by the Unseen Servant picks a new fluffy ball from the Bag of Tricks and ... pooof... out comes a wolf. Ready and eager to gnaw on the skulls. Nothing better than a good bone... even if it is a wolf.
Dietrich too seems to be slowed by the constant running and keeps up with Vauhwyt. Berlon riding on Vauhwyt's back considers using the spurs on Vauhwyt but remembers he's sitting on one of his friends... The three of them are now facing the incomming skulls.
As soon as Theodore notices the liontaur carrynig Berlon and Dietrich falling behind he turns around and obscures them from sight. Hopefully that will slow the skulls...
Jack curses the fact that he is without his own weapons. Somehow he went to sleep one night and woke up in this dreaded place. Without weapons... only wearing what he had on to sleep that night. His trusted blade right next to him... but Jack never saw how the lavender mysts rose from the ground engulfing him completely for otherwise he would have brought his blade for sure... oh how he longs for his own gear in this dreadful hour of day...
Vorelle feels nothing from all the running. Instead as she watches Theodore obscuring his friends from their sight she worries now she will be unable to deal with the skulls... Rose too takes out her bow.
There they come. In no time they catch up with the wolf. Three skulls move around it and head for vauhwyt and Berlon untill their eyes are blocked by the fog.
Two horse skulls and a bear skull stop at the edge of the obscuring myst and shriek at wherever they think the warriors can be. They open their jaws and their sonic bursts rip through Vauhwyt, Berlon and Dietrich.
Horse skull 1: 14HP sonic damage (57% change - ok) Horse skull 3: 8HP sonic damage (42% chance - miss) Bear Skull 1: 6HP sonic damage (10% chance - miss)
Vauhwyt and Berlon are engulfed by the sonic attack from Horse Skull 1 and both take 14HP sonic damage. Mookie too is hurt from this sonic charge as it rips through everything it encounters...
The second horse skull luckily misses Dietrich .
The Wolf summoned by Mookie to slow down all the skulls finds himself surrounded by a number of skulls right away... They don't close distance with the wolf but instead remain at a distance of 2o to 25ft... in range for their terrible shriek attack, but far enough to avoid getting counter attacked by the wolf!
One horse skull, two bear skulls and one Boar skull shatter the bones of the poor wolf...
Horse skull 2: 8HP sonic damage Bear skull 2: 9HP sonic damage Bear skull 3: 7HP sonic damage Boar skull 3: 10HP sonic damage
The Wolf instentaniously crumbles his bones literally turned to nothing but dust...

Dietrich quickly recovers from the running (con check 13), but he chooses to stay at the rear-guard anyway. The warrior trys to help Vauhwyt running and uses the mist to conceal their retreat. "COntinue running, donīt stop for the skulls!"
Maybe a magic attack at the skulls would be good now.
Vauhwyt (AC21 HP38 of 52) fatigued and Mookie (AC17 HP12 of 26) (Unseen Servant, Expeditious Retreat) d100=43 Tuesday June 13th, 2006 8:42:23 AM
Vauwhyt gasps and Mookie yelps. "Ow! OWowowow!"
"Hush ..." is all Vauhwyt can say.
She can't keep moving AND carry Berlon. "Too heavy!" she gasps. She drops the cleric (free action).
She sees that Dietrich wants to help. "Dietrich! Carry Berlon!" she says.
[OOC: How much does Berlon plus gear weigh?]
DM Inge: Berlon : 58 lbs Gear: 51 lbs equipment + 11 lbs magic items + 2.7 lbs coins totals 64.7 lbs. Occ: berlon you have this wrong on your sheet. You have listed to carry around 27lbs of coins causing you to walk with medium cargo. It's only 2.7 lbs giving you light load - with only a few lbs's left
Berlon + all gear : 122.7 Lbs
Mookie, desperate to delay pursuit, uses the Unseen Servant to pull another trick out of the bag. The bird tosses down a little ball of fur that becomes another Wolf!
"Every round that they attack a wolf is a round they are not running," Mookie says. He commands the Wolf like the last one.
Vauhwyt, without Berlon, makes a double move to keep up with the group (moves 70 then another 70).
Bag of Tricks: 3 charges used out of 10 for the week.
Spells: 5 first level spells out of 6 used for the day. No 0-level spells used so far.
Vorelle [AC 17; HP 57/57] d20+10=23 d8+1=3 Tuesday June 13th, 2006 9:30:39 AM
Seeing her friends in trouble, Vorelle stops to deal with the skulls. She can't shoot through the mist, so she moves to where she can shoot around it, and fires a shot at the Horse skull closest to her. It doesn't do much damage, but hopefully it provides a distraction.
[Move to AD-11; shoot at Horse 1; hit AC 23 for 3 damage (5 damage if this thing counts as Undead).]
Vauhwyt Extra Tuesday June 13th, 2006 11:22:25 AM
If Berlon is moving at a light load, then Vauhwyt urges him to run! That's faster than Dietrich taking the time to pick the gnome up!
(Inge, thanks for being so flexible and for the extra info! I added a few notes to the post above!)
Olyn Tuesday June 13th, 2006 11:26:06 AM

Pearl of Power II, once per day recalls cast level 2 spell.

Skull Battle Round 3: Berlon's BRILLIANT idea!! [DM Inge] Wolf attack ( attack: d20+3=19 trip check d20+2=17) Horse skull 3 defense ( d20+4=10 ) Horse skull 1 attack ( 4d4(2+1+2+2)=7 ) Myst chances (Be1 d100=63 ; Be2 d100=71 ; Be3 d100=32) Wednesday June 14th, 2006 9:57:38 AM OlynHighlight to display spoiler: { runs continues to run towards the bridge. Knowing you travel much slower than the Hippogriff did you realise it will take you three times as long to get back to that bridge... The good thing is that so far you don't encounter any bad things. }
Dispite the threat the skulls are creating Dietrich advises Vauhwyt to continue running as fast as she can. Even though fatigued, Vauhwyt can still walk twice her speed and aided by the expeditious retreat spell this means she's still able to keep up with the rest of the group. Of course that is if Berlon dismounts.
Dietrich begins to move towards the front guard and once Berlon is of her back so does Vauhwyt... however the gnome cleric does not run along! Knowing outrunning may not be an option for him he picks a small pearl...
"f they can't make noise they can't make sonic damage, right? Right???"
A BRILLIANT idea!!
Turning to Dietrich and Vauhwyt he yells, "Let's smash 'em and get going! Stay within 20 feet of me!"
As Vauhwyt hears this she doubles back giving Berlon's bright idea a chance. If they can not outrun them it might be best to wipe'm out as fast as possible!
Mookie, badly hurt from the sonic charge considers it his duty to stall the skulls to secure his mistress safety. Another furry ball is thrown and again a Wolf spawns to life and charges the nearest skull trying to trip!
The wolf charges through the obscuring fog and the first Skull he encounters is a Horse Skull. He makes a succesfull attack (rolled a 19 vs Horse Skull AC15) and attempts to trip the infernal skull.
The Wold is succesful and the flying horse skull tumbles on the ground. Prone. Vurnerable to any attack and getting up will take a whole move action!
Vorelle notices her friends are in grievious trouble and refuses to run without them. Instead she tries to get a clear line of sight to the first Horse skull and shoots.
Even though her shot was very accurate -- the arrow sticks in the Horse's skull ... euhm ... skull -- it took no damage at all! Being nothing but bones these creatures seem to have some sort of damage reduction!! Even undead... damage remains 0... (damage reduction 5/ Bludgeoning)
Rose also fires at the nearest skull (again Horse skull 1) but like Vorelle the skull remains unharmed...
However the skull notices needles sticking out his earholes and turns his large head facing Rose and Vorelle. Rose keeps running, but Vorelle waits...
Horse skull 1 turns around and hustles 60ft towards Vorelle... opens his jaws... SSSSHRRAAAAAAAA...
Vorelle takes 7HP sonic damage + needs to make a DC9 or be paralyzed.
Theodoreand Jack too keep running. Together with Rose they run further away from the group (and thus tumble from my map ;-) ) However they are within hustle range the moment they realise Vorelle is now under attack as well... and can come back with a double move to attack next round...
(OOC: I'm too easy on you guys!!!)
Around the fog the skulls assemble. Three Bear Skulls mercilessly send their sonic bursts into the fog. Only two of them aim well... But Vauhwyt and Berlon hear not a single whisper!! Through the fog they think they can see the skulls opening their jaws, but if that would exist in Kosche-Marr they now would resemble a mute movie...
Berlon's spell works!! No longer can they be harmed by the sonic charges!!
Now you can deal with them face to face and knowing how eager Vauhwyt was to return to Berlon next turn we may expect to see crushed bones on the ground...
Two skulls are feasting on the remains of the Wolf that was slain last turn...

Dietrich too doubles back and goes to help Vauhwyt and Berlon. He hustles through the fog an unleashes his blind rage at the first skull he encounters. (Crit check 30 OK)
Bear Skull 3 never saw that one coming and cleaved into two halves the skull falls on the ground. Dietrich's blow was soo immense that the warrior's blade crashes onto Bear Skull 2 as well!
Vauhwyt prepares to fight the skulls face to face. She takes her light hammer (a bludgeoning weapon -- grmble grmble), beckons Berlon to move along with her so she can fight under the Silence Spell protection and move closer to the skulls. Ready to strike hard next round. Mookie now hides...
Berlon sees Vauhwyt's intentions and moves closer to the Skulls. The Silence sphere moves along. The skulls don't realise what just happened nor do they understand why their otherwise soo powerful Sonic attacks now suddenly seem to be ineffective against these warriors. After all these are just dumb flying skulls... without brains...
Vorelle is hurt and worried that he arrows are not effective but she has nothing else to shoot. Remaining calm she aims and rapidly fires three arrows at the hovering skull. This time the skull shrieks from pain!
(horse skull 1 takes 6HP damage)
Mad Jack and Rose see their friends in trouble. They know the delay of this battle will cause the Huntsman to catch up with them, but they can't leave their friends. Both hurry towards the others. Rose sends a ray of frost at the nearest skull but the ray harmlessly hits the Horse Skull on the back of his head.
Jack too runs up towards the Skull that threathens Vorelle. But he misses his trusted GreatSword... even though a trustworthy weapon, the rapier is not as effective in Jack's hands.
Theodore knows there is little he can do to help his friends so he decides to run ahead of the group to see what lies ahead. Perhaps he can reach the canyon first. So far he sees nothing but trees, though he thinks to sees the edge over there in the far off distance...
Vauwyt's Wolf bites at the Prone Skull he tripped last turn. Mercilessly he bites down shewing at the bones... The skull is quite hard and even though the Wolf's bite would normally be rather painfull only minor damage is taken by the Skull.
(Horse skull 3 takes 1HP damage)
As a move action Horse skull 3 gets up and seeing the Wolf soo close to him he crashes a hoove at the Wolf.
(Wolf takes 5HP damage and has 8Hp left)
Bear Skull 2 and Boar Skull 3 both send forth their agonising shriek but once again the sonic bursts dissipate once they reach the Silent Sphere... Too stupid to understand they don't realise what is wrong... "Luckily" Bear Skull 1 also benefits from the silence sphere for Bear's sonic burst would otherwise have damaged him as well!
Horse Skull 2 and Bear Skull 1 both attack Vauhwyt as she draws closer... The Horse skull fails to hit the liontaur, but the Bear Skull claws at Vauhwyt ripping her armor doing 8HP damage!
(Vauhwyt takes 8HP damage)
Boar Skull 2 and Ape Skull 1 draw 30ft closer to Jack and Vorelle and... you guessed it... SSSSSHHRRRRIIIII SSSHHRRRAAIIIIEEEEEEEE
Ape 1 is ruthless as he emmanates his deadly shriek and doesn't care he also hurts the Horse Skull that is in melee with Jack...
(Jack, Vorelle and Horse Skull 1 take 11HP damage)
Boar 2 was unable to get far enough and only engulfs Jack in his deadly noise.
(Jack takes 7HP sonic Damage)
The Horse Skull 1 that was mainly hurt by the sound burst of his pack mates turns around in fury! He flies towards the Ape skull (drawing an AoO from Mad Jack! Go ahead and roll this prior to your next turn) and attacks the Ape!!

Dietrich sees the first skull crashing down and doesnīt think twice. He attacks the second Bear-skull (B2): Hits ac 20, damage 18 (itīs 2d6+9 with Warddīs magic, weapon specialization and strenght bonus).
The powerful strike should be enough to crash this skull too, so he continues (cleave feat) and swings at Horse skull 3: "hits" ac 12...
Though concentrated on the fight, Dietrich pays attention not to leave the protective silence spell. He hopes his friends will concentrate their powers on this enemy and destroy it swiftly. If they could hear him shouting, heīd call for them not to divide.
OOC: i think the map above is from last turn, as several positions are not updated.
DM Inge : yes it is. I have updated it, but for some not yet defined reason Excel crashes constantly when I try to upload it. I'm doing all I can to fix the problem. It I fail I'll send out a mail in 10 minutes.

Berlon makes a quick move, at least as his little legs DO move, scooting between Vauhwyt and the wolf, moving to L8.
He then brings his mace down on the horse skull (2s)
Heavy Mace attack hits AC 25 for 5 dge.
Obviously concerned with the situation, Berlon turns to Vauhwyt then frantically points to Jack and Vorelle. Hopefully the silent message was sent...

Dietrich is feeling strengthened as he sees the skull crashing down and without hesitation he attacks Bear Skull 2 a second time!
Bear skull 2 takes 13HP damage and Crashes to the ground...
Continuing on his merciless Skull Cleaving he lands his blade on the Horse Skull that is in melee with the Wolf though this time he fails to connect.
Berlon scoots between Vauhwyt and the Wolf and brings down his bludgeoning mace on Horse Skull 2!
Horse Skull 2 takes the full 5 HP
He is concerned about Jack and Vorelle as they are not under the protection of his silence spell. He turns to Vauhwyt and points to his friends that are in dire need.
Vauhwyt, feeling weak and slow with fatigue, nonetheless raises her light hammer against Bear Skull 1. Even though minor the skull takes the whole 1 Hp...
Bear Skull 1 takes the full 1HP
Rose calls to the others: "Lets leave the skulls alone or the huntsman will be here soon.". However she does drop her bow and heads towards Boar Skull 2. Even though she feels her sword connect the skull takes no damage at all!
(ooc. Expeditious retreat is down to 10 turns. I'm ashamed to say that I lost track when the message and shield spell were cast -- anyone can help?)
Jack fumbles the dreamed opportunity to hit horse skull 1 on the back of his head. But he is severely wounded by the sounds. As the skull draws away Jack swings wide and drops the rapier... CURSED LAND!! He runs after Theodore who has gone ahead to scout -- now again without weapons... Theodore sends Macaw to see how the others are doing and to serve as link to him. Macaw quickly sees Jack running in pain and warns Theodore about his coming. Perhaps the two should regroup?
Vorelle fires at the Boar Skull that shrieked at Jack. Only her first two arrows connect.
(Boar Skull 2 takes 6HP damage)
Vauwyt's Wolf again bites at the Horse Skull but this time he fails to connect.
Horse skull 3 wants to make an end to this and sees Dietrich as his most dangerous opponent. He crashes down 2 hooves and takes a bite at the warrior!! Only one Hoove hits Dietrich bad...
(Dietrich takes 8HP damage)
Boar 3 and Horse 2 both attack the little gnome Berlon! But luck is on his side this time! The Boar's gore attack , the two hooves and the bite from the horse all fail to connect!!! Way to go berlon!!
Bear 1 and Ape 2 attack Vauhwyt.. SUCH LUCK!!! Again the skull fail! 4 claws and 2 bites ALL MISSS!!!!!!

Vauhwyt to Rose and All on TIMING Saturday June 17th, 2006 6:14:11 AM
Can the Message spell work through the Silence? If so, then Vauhwyt whispers back to Rose, "Rose! We have plenty of time! Relax!"
[OOC: The Expeditious Retreat lasts 30 rounds (3 minutes). Inge just said that there are 10 rounds (1 minute) left in the spell. That means ONLY 20 rounds (2 minutes) have gone by. BUT the Huntsman gave us a 10 MINUTE head start! He's still sitting back there, and will be for eight more minutes! So we have the time to fight skulls.]
[OOC: Besides, the whole reason we are fighting is that if we run away, poor slow Berlon will be left behind and eaten. Vauhwyt is too fatigued to carry him. We have to either fight to the finish or abandon Berlon. So we have to fight to the finish.]
[OOC: If the Shield spell was from a scroll, then likely it has expired (likely it had a 10 round duration as if cast by a first level mage. If Rose cast it, then probably it had a 40 or 50 round duration, depending on Rose's caster level. The Message lasts 10 MINUTES per level, so it is still going for sure. The Unseen Servant lasts for an hour, so no problem there.]

ooc: hey cayzle you need to read the dm posts better. here's a bit from two posts about that timing you mentioned.
Thursday June 8th, 2006 12:16:32 PM Most realise that it is doubtful that the Huntsman will wait the promising 10 minutes so quickly decide to make it to the canyon
Friday June 9th, 2006 8:34:25 AM What's that behind them?!? A horn... mournfull... threathening... bone chilling...
Huntsman horn burning in your ears, the heroes must push on or die. The Inn cannot be far away, not with the pursuit so close... Far close than it should be if they would have waited 10 minutes... but then you remember... did Samule not tell you that Time has a different meaning in this threacherous realm?!?
Cayzle to Loretta Saturday June 17th, 2006 5:48:31 PM
Oooh! Good points!
I still say we have to defeat these skulls, though, or else slowpoke Berlon will get eaten.
loretta again ooc to cayzle Saturday June 17th, 2006 11:17:31 PM
yes, but if it takes to long then there will be two slowpokes because my expeditious retreat will have worn off. Of course maybe someone will carry the slowpokes and they can fire arrows & stuff while being carried. what feats do you need for that anyways?

A worried look crosses Berlon's face. He continues to press the attack, targeting anyone he can reach while keeping them within the 20' radius.
Heavy Mace attack hits AC 22 for 4 dge.

Dietrich takes the hit and bites his teeth together.
The warrior too doesnīt want to stay here for much longer. He attacks horse skull 3
hits ac 27, damage 17
*If that cleaves it, he attacks the nearest enemy (Iīve only the old map, not updated, and donīt know exactly which would be the other target.) Anyway, he doesnīt hit at ac 12.
Dietrich makes a withdraw movement after the attack and makes signs for the remnants of the party to keep moving, using the silence spell to protect us.
The knight also swears a lot, seeing the party totaly split up. Though he can understand the others running, if the hounds and monster get the slower groupmembers alone, things will go badly.

Amazed by all the good luck, Vauhwyt keeps attacking the bear skull... The skull growls madly. This time Vauhwyt won't be soo lucky!!

"OW!"Rose cries as she's gored and yells a message to Vauhwyt. But the Liontaur is surrounded by Berlon's protective Silence Sphere so Rose's words do not reach Vauhwyt. Rose them orders Piper to fly ahead towards the Inn and to find Olyn... wherever he may be...
Rose once again attacks Boar Skull 2 but misses. As a move action to takes her whip from her belt pouch but can't use it yet this round. (ooc unless I'm missing something)
Berlon continues to pummel Horse Skull 2 but grows worried. His friends are well within his protective spell, but for how long can they keep up with these monstrosities?!?
(Horse skull 2 takes the full 4HP)
Dietrich bites his teeth together and as he doesn't want to stay here for too long he takes another mighty blow at Horse Skull 3.
(Horse Skull 3 takes 12HP )
Still the infernal skull hovers around so Dietrich can not use his cleave feat this time. He then makes a withdraw movement and makes silent signs for the remnants of the party to keep moving... He swears a lot seeing the party got totally split up though he understands the other running.
Vorelle tries to help Rose who is in melee with Boar Skull 2. Even though only one of her arrows hit, it's a good hit! But still the skull stands... these baddies are tough!!
(Boar skull 2 takes 11 HP)
Wolf too continues this frenzy and once again he attempts to bite Horse Skull 3. His bite is successful, but the hard skull only takes part of the dagame... the wolf grows worried that his teeth will soon break...
(Horse Skull 3 takes 2 HP)
... my turn ...
Noticing Dietrich's withdrawel Horse Skull 3 now finishes the annoying wolf that has been shewing on his bones for far too long... Two hooves crack open the skull of the summoned Wolf and one deadly bite tears open the Wolf's belly... only a broken chunk of meat is left as a sad evidence of the once so usefyl wolf...
Boar 3 and Horse 2 both take a second try at Berlon. He was awfully lucky last turn... I doubt he'd be this lucky again... One hoove sweeps by Berlon... the cleric can feel the wind blowing besides his ears, but then the second hoove crashes on his shoulders... followed by a painful bite in the arm...
Bear 1 and Ape 2 continue to munch on the deliciously looking Liontaur... Both skulls crash their hooves at Vauhwyt, but only one of each connects. Both their bites fail to rip through Vauhwyt's armor.
Bear 1 hoove 1 hits AC21 : 10HP Bear 1 hoove 2 hits AC11 : miss Bear 1 bite hits AC16 : miss Ape 2 hoove 1 hits AC19 : miss Ape 2 hoove 2 hits AC26 : 7HP
(Vauwhyt takes a total of 17HP)
This is going the wrong way lads!!!
Boar 2 makes another gore attack at Rose!
(Boar 2 gore hits AC6: miss)
And last but not least, the two funny Horse and Ape skulls continue to harass eachother...
Both skulls shriek at the same time and... literally explode to dust at the same time!!
Rose and Vorelle now only have to deal with the annoying Boar pummeling on Rose but then they too can make a run for it...
Rose, Vorelle, Theodore and Jack Highlight to display spoiler: { Again a horn bells... closer than before, more threatening... this battle takes too long... HE didn't wait 10 minutes AT ALL!!! Is this the end of all Hope?
Theodore runs forward to find the bridge and is notified by Macaw that Jack is running behind him. If he turns around he will see Jack only a mere 100 ft behind him.
Over there!! In the distance (360ft away from Theodore) the mage spots what can be the bridge... as he's still running in the forest he can't be sure, but at laest it looks like the bridge... in 3 rounds at running speed (x4) he will reach it. Jack will need 4 rounds to get there...

Berlon's face is overcome with pain as he take even more damage. As usual, he tries to be prepared, even under the effects of the silence spell.
Trying to avoid giving the skulls an extra attack, Berlon starts by taking a 5' step northeast. Once he is out of range of the skulls' jaws, he reaches into his cloak and pulls out a clear flask filled with familiar looking red liquid. He quickly drinks the contents of the Cure Mod Wounds potion, healing 14 hp.
Once done, he readies himself to club any advancing skulls over the, uh, skull.

*Again, if that cleaves the undead, he continues his swing at the next enemy (2S Horse): hits ac 16, damage 16
The knight wonders about his clerical friends. He remembers Olyn using his holy powers to make the *%&Ļ% undead run. Could Berlon do the same?

Thinking that Berlon has a great idea, Vauhwyt also steps back five feet to NO7. She takes out a potion of Cure Moderate Wounds and drinks it -- rolled a 1 and a 5 ... rerolling the 1 ... rerolling the 1 again ... a 2! That's 10 hp back total.
Now that BOTH summoned wolves are dead, Mookie (peeking out of his pouch) sees that he needs to act. He pulls ANOTHER ball of fur from the Bag, helped by the Unseen Servant, and tosses it down in the space Vauhwyt just stepped back from.
It is a (roll of 62) Boar (which unfortunately does piercing damage).
The boar attacks the skull that Vauhwyt hit with her hammer.

Berlon's face is overcome with pain as he takes even more damage. He takes an evasive step NE, quaffs a healing potion and readies himself with his club. Vauhwyt suffers the same pain and like Berlon she too takes an evasive manouvre, healing herself with another potion. Mookie peeks out only to see both summoned wolves dead. Only another fluffy ball can bring some help. This time a Boar springs to life...
Dietrich sees his friends are in trouble and attempts to take the Horse Skull down. Again a mighty blow connects and the skull whinces in pain. But... the skull still stands!
(Horse Skull 3 takes 9HP damage)
Dietrich is worried that things are going the wrong way and wonders if Berlon can't turn these undead! But are they classified undead?!?
Rose takes another blow at the Boar Skull in front of her. With Ward's help she manages to connect!
(Boar Skull 2 takes 4HP damage)
Then Rose too takes an evasive move and prepares to run to her friends. (what others is Rose going for? Jack and Theodore or Dietrich, Vauhwyt and Berlon -- I haven't repositionned Rose on the map for this reason. Feel free to make your next move based on where you wanted to end up.)
Once Rose moves out of the way Vorelle takes her chances and fires at will at the Boar Skull. Only one arrow hits the infernal creature doing only 1HP damage.
(Boar Skull 2 takes 1HP damage)
Still the raging skull flies around... this time eyeing Vorelle...
Theodore sees the bridge 360ft away and continues running. He runs at full speed closing in to 240ft from the bridge.
Theodore Listen DC12 Highlight to display spoiler: { You hear the noise of metal crashing on armor ahead of you!! Olyn? }
Behind you the battles rages between your friends and the skulls, but the silent sphere blocks most noises.... You do hear other noises closing in from far behind... running feet... many feet... your friends need to get out of there FAST!!!
Jack sees Theodore running 120ft ahead of him. He's now in between the bridge and his friends... perhaps he can help those who manage to escape the skulls...
Horse Skull 3 is now badly wounded and fears Dietrich's blade. Another blow could kill the skull. Instead of taking a full attack the skull tries to hit Dietrich with one hoove and then he also descides to make an evasive move... taking a 5ft step backwards!
Horse Skull 3 Hoove hits AC19 for 9HP
(Dietrich takes 9HP damage)
Boar Skull 3 and Horse Skull 2 notice Berlon and Vauhwyt are taking envasive manouvres but also see the tough warrior that destroyed several of their mates closing in. Both attack the warrior!
Horse Skull 2 Hoove hits AC21 for 5HP)
Boar Skull 3 Gore hits AC5 -- Natural 1!
Instead of hitting Dietrich, the Boar Skull fumbles his attack and crashes into the Horse Skull instead doing 2HP damage)
(Dietrich takes 5HP damage)
(Horse Skull 2 takes 2HP damage)
The newly summoned Boar by Mookies fluffy ball immediately charges the Bear Skull that Vauhwyt attacked last turn. But fails to connect.
Due to the newly summoned Boar the Bear and Ape skull both are blocked from attacking Vauhwyt and Berlon... All they can do is mutilate the young Boar...
Bear 1 Claw 1 hits AC24 for 7HP Bear 1 Claw 2 hits AC24 for 9HP Bear 1 Bite hits AC3 Ape 2 claw 1 hits AC17 for 9HP Ape 2 claw 2 hits AC24 for 9HP Ape 2 Bite hits AC10
The Boar takes a total of 32HP and instantly dies... But the good thing is... Vauhwyt and Berlon are not in any threathened squares at all!
As Rose runs towards her friends (please lemme know where you went) the Boar skull closes in on Vorelle and ... OH NO... SHHHRHHRAAAAAAAAAA... Sonic vibrations engulf Vorelle ..

Inge: Oopsie my mistake :-/ True, the Hippogriffs appears at the beginning of your current turn. You can give actions to it allready.
Dietrich; AC 19, HP 38 of 60 d20+11=21 2d6(6+2)+9=17 Tuesday June 20th, 2006 1:25:24 PM
Dietrich takes some other wounds and starts looking less powerful...
Heīs impressed by the apparent intelligence of the skulls, with the almost destroyed Horseskull withdrawing from combat.
The warrior certainly wants to get to the bridge fast, but how could we avoid the faster skulls attacking us from behind? Seeing no solution for this dilema, he attacks the adjacent Boarskull 3S: Hits ac 21, damage 17
Than he withdraws 5 ft in direction of his friends. The knight really hopes for a trick from Vauhwyt or Berlon, the summoning of more "cannonfudder", anything. Dietrich can held a little more on his own, sure, but that wonīt be enough to destroy or delay the 8 remaining skulls, not to speak of the hounds...

Unhappy with how things are going, he then reaches into his cloak for a phial full of clear liquid....

Vauhwyt grimaces when she sees Dietrich attack the Boar skull. It is the Horse and the Bear that are so fast they cannot be outrun. If the group could kill those, then they could flee and hope to escape.
She feels Theo's raven nip at her, and she sees Rose's frantic efforts to get the group to flee. She signals to Mookie!
Mookie sees the Boar go under toot sweet! He summons up another ball of fur. "At this rate, we'll use up our ration of ten for the week all today!" he complains, but of course, in the silence, no one can hear him.
The raven calls forth a Wolverine (rolled a 10). Mookie puts the ball of fur in N10 -- that way the Wolverine gets a +2 flanking bonus because Berlon is in N8. Mookie directs it to attack Bear 1, which is already hit for 5, plus the 4 Berlon just inflicted.
If by some miracle the Wolverine kills it and has an attack left, it will attack the Ape skull next to it. But after that it will move to and fight horses. If it lives.
THEN, discretion being the better part of valor, and having an increasingly bad feeling about all this, Vauhwyt takes a double move action and travels 140 feet closer to the bridge.

Vorelle takes a five-foot step back (to AE-10), and fires three more shots at the skull. "W-w-we have to g-g-g-go!" she calls to her friends. Useless, of course; they can't hear her in that Silence spell.
Her shots, on the other hand, are good ones; the second one in particular doing some serious damage.

My reply came only a few minutes ... }
Dietrich takes some more wounds and is amazed by the apparent intelligence of the skulls. Seeing no immediate way out of here he fights the skull closest to him... Vauhwyt whinces as she sees the warrior attack the slowest among the skulls... it's the horse skulls they can't outrun!
(Boar Skull 3 takes 12HP damage)
Far from dead the skull glances at the warrior with rage in his eyes...
Berlon , somewhat recovered thanks to the healing potion takes a diagonal step and swings his Heavy Mace at the Bear Skull in front of him.
(Bear Skull 1 takes the full 4HP)
Rose runs towards Berlon, grabs his wrists and by the frantic look on her face Berlon can tell she tries to pull you away from this place...
Vauhwyt also notices Rose's behaviour, and Theodore's raven nipping at her ears. Seeing the delay the poor boar provided last turn Mookie throws yet another ball of fur... this time a Wolvering comes to life! Mookie plants it behind the Bear and Ape skull making sure the Wolverine can make a full attack at flanking bonus!!
With deadly accuracy the Wolverine claws at the Bear Skull making a critical hit, but only minor damage reaches the skull... it's bite fails to connect.
(Bear Skull 1 takes 1HP)
After being overwhelmed by the shrieking Boar Skull 2 Vorelle takes a 5ft step back and then lauches three accurate arrows.
(Boar Skull 2 takes 16HP and finally dies!!)
Being free from danger Vorelle calls to her friends but they can not hear her... Berlon's Silence Sphere blocks all communication. But Vorelle's path towards the bridge is now free!!
Vauhwyt feel the need to go and hoping her friends will think the same she takes a double move towards the bridge. As Vauhwyt exits the Silence Sphere she just catches Vorelle's words and as she passes her on the way she probably signals Vorelle to follow the Liontaur.
Still Berlon, Dietrich and now Rose too are left behind... with skulls around them...
Jack catches his breath for a few moments and will quickly see Vauhwyt hustling towards him.
Theodore continues towards the Bridge but the sound of the metal clang of battle weighs heavy on him... who knows what lays ahead?!? As he comes within 120ft from the bridge the forest almost ends... he can see the narrow wooden bridge crossing the canyon in front of him, but he also sees Highlight to display spoiler: { two trolls attacking the Elf you all saw earlier when the Hunt started!! The Elf is under heavy attack...}
Boar Skull 3 attacks Dietrich once again but the warrior easily avoids getting hurt by the skull's gore attack.
Horse Skull 2 fights Berlon... yes also fails to hurt the cleric with its hoove...
The bear Skull that got hurt by Berlon too fights the cleric making a full round attack!! Only one claw shreds a piece of Berlon's armor!
(Berlon takes 7HP)
The Ape skull picks up the challenge and intends to do better than his Horse and Bear friends and takes another go at the Gnome Cleric!! But the Ape as well can only strike once. A painful claw rips though Berlon's armor again!
(Berlons takes 8HP)
Oh oh oh... Life is hard on the Gnome... With only a few HP left in his body Berlon feels the urge to get out of this place! If he fails his protective silence spell will also dissapear sacrificing his friends again to the torture of sound...
Horse Skull 3 retreats, but Boar 1 and Ape 3 have finished feasting on the first Wolf's remains... cautiously they begin to circle around you readying themselves to fight soon...

Dietrich; AC 19, HP 38/60 Wednesday June 21st, 2006 12:20:34 PM
Dietrich sees Vauhwyt leaving and Berlon almost being killed and he swears. Itīs good that the silence spell makes it impossible to hear the warrior.
On the other hand, as itīs just the Horse skulls they canīt outrun, Dietrich too will retreat at full speed, but paying attention to stay between Berlon (if the Gnome also runs away) and any pursuers. The knight can still take some attacks. Hopefully the wolverine will ensure theyīre not attacked this round... And some arrow cover from Vorelle would be helpful too...

Dietrich sees Vauhwyt leaving and Berlon almost die... lucky the Silent Sphere keeps the words the warrior utters unheard for all... Dietrich runs away with Berlon realising only the Horse Skulls are too fast to outrun... but will the other skulls be unable to catch up with the slower Gnome Cleric?!?
By leaving he allows Boar Skull 3 an Attack of Opportunity (leaving threathened square M6) but lucky for the warrior the skull is soo surpirsed by this sudden evasive manuvres that he fails to connect.
(Boar Skull 3 hits AC15)
Berlon staggers in pain and knows he has to follow the others in retreat... as fast as his little legs can carry him he runs towards the bridge. Rose drags him along ( OOC took the liberty to move Rose along for her own sake... damn I'm too nice ;-) ) and Vorelle provides protective fire before she herself also runs towards the forest...
The Wolverine remains behind and the skulls start feasting on the predator... The Ape and Boar skull that started to circle around you see you all entering the fog they Shriek at you... unable to penetrate the silent sphere these skulls do not advance at the moment...
5 skulls are dead ... 3 skulls are wounded ... 3 are unscathed ...
Just get out of here before they have finished feasting on the wolverine and those last boar remains..
Vauhwyt runs through the forest and sees Jack sitting down catching his breath. Without waithing she runs towards Theodore who is near the bridge right now. Jack wonders what made the brave cat run, but doesn't wait for an answer... she will answer later when they are safe...
The sound of the Hunt approaching behind you all draws nearer and now Vauhwyt and Jack can also hear the metal clang of battle up ahead!! Theodore?!?
Up ahead Theodore is examining the bridge and sees the two trolls bashing on the Elf... difficult to say who is winning... the Elf sure takes a pounding but his greatsword sure makes blood flow from the trolls as well... Ohhh... that must have hurt pretty bad! One of the trolls was able to rend the Elf!! Someone needs to help this guy!?!
The Trolls and the Elf are now fighting approcimately 60ft away from Theodore and the fight is in front of the bridge...
CRAP!!!

Taking in the scene before her, Vauhwyt begins to form the start of a plan!
She keeps hustling, toward the Elf, then veering out of reach of the Trolls, then LEAPING the canyon!
Vauhwyt has 7 ranks in Jump, +1 race, +2 synergy, and +16 because she is moving at 70 (four 10-foot increments above 30). She does not get her Str bonus because she is fatigued. At +26, she'll need a four or better to leap the 30-foot gap. Her roll is a 34 -- she makes it over with a couple feet to spare!
Her move, by the way, is to L18 on the bridge map and then straight across to Z18 on the other side.
Note that Vauhwyt has only 140 feet of movement ... if that's not enough to get to Z18, then she gets as far as she can. If she has any move left after getting to Z18, then she heads toward Z13.
As she runs, she shouts to Mookie to get the rope and spikes out!
Vital questions for Inge: What is the bridge made of? Are there railings? How sturdy does it look? How deep is the canyon? Thanks!
