Kadaz
Sunday June 4th, 2006 7:35:21 AM

Once outside on the street, heavily laden with extra armor, arms, and other loot, Kadaz looks at the two new folks. "Thar and Ash, would you join us back at our place to divide up these items? I'd prefer not to do this in the street here."

Back at home Kadaz looks over the loot that overflows the table in the common room. "Well, let's count the money first, and then figure out what the other items do. What is this book of spells worth? And what's in that little box? And what ... " his voice trails off, a bit overwhelmed at the sheer size of the loot pile.

Conner  d10+2=10
Sunday June 4th, 2006 1:31:25 PM

Tired and hungry, Conner helps Kadaz pack up the loot and follows the dwarf back to the apartment. Too tired to speak, he does not apologize to the Silver Swords, nor does he continue the battle of words either.

[OOC rolled 10 for 6th lvl HP]

Thar ail Baerer  d8=6
Sunday June 4th, 2006 9:11:17 PM

Glad that they can finally leave the congested room and get back to somewhere quiet, Thar says "Thank you Kadaz, I'd be honored to join you. We seem to have found quite a treasure trove of loot and some of the items look useful. I'll report back to the church later, after I've rested, but for now, I'd like to continue traveling with you all."

Considering their haul, he says "I'm interested in one of the cloaks, the shield and/or maybe bracers or a ring. I wonder what's in the lead lined box and purses?"

(OOC, rolled 6 for next level's hp's, 3rd level of Cleric)

Ash  d8=3
Sunday June 4th, 2006 11:59:45 PM

Ash agrees to follow the rest of the group. He is still disturbed by what he has seen and is obviously lost in thought as he follows everyone.

<OOC rolled a 3 for 5 hps for lvl 5 :/>

Arm  d8=7
Monday June 5th, 2006 6:02:03 AM

Helping to carry their spoils back to the apartment, Arm sighs with relief when they come in sight of it.

Once inside, he looks over the hoard, and says, "I wouldn't mind procuring one of these studded leathers, and one of the cloaks and the longsword, depending on what enchantments they hold, of course. We should divide this up as soon as possible so we can clean up, feed our stomachs, and get some well deserved rest.". Looking to Shadow, he says, "What of these purses? Is it possible to trap a purse?".

OOC: rolled 7 for hp - lvl 5...updated CS coming soon.

Shadow
Monday June 5th, 2006 10:54:27 AM

Shadow also helps getting all of the 'spoils' back to the apartment and sets stuff down on the table. He looks exhausted as the last few days have finally caught up to the rogue. "I don't think it is very beneficial to trap purses, but i will check in a little bit." With that he starts to shrug off his 'work' clothes and get into some clean clothes.

OOC: rolls and such later to follow, wanted to get the post in. I do not have time right now, but will get to it hopefully today.

Kadaz  d10+3=10
Monday June 5th, 2006 2:00:22 PM

Kadaz wonders about how to divide up this loot. "Thar, we have quite a pile of items here, but I don't think it's fair to pick items without everyone knowing what's what. I'd prefer for us to know what the magical items do and how valuable they are before we divide up items. How about we take everything to the Catacombs and ask them for help? I think we may have enough good-quality mundane items to pay for the magical idenfities."

"Sure wish they had someone like you at Sampson's," Mira says to the matron who set the tea. The sorcerer thinks back on the sullen male who had waited on them when last the party had had the opportunity to sup at the tavern. Her eyes slide over to Conner, as the woman remembers the buxom bar-maid from Sampson's who had been killed during the recent bizarre natural upheavals.

The sorcerer looks over Ash's arm, to see what he sees in the pattern of residue from the tea leaves. "I prefer palms, myself" she admits, then turns towards the bard and clasps Arm's hand in hers, turning it over in order to study the lines.

Back at the apartment, Mira surveys the loot. Hands on hips, a smile spreads across her face. "About time!" she laughs, "now, let me have a look at some of this stuff." Mira concentrates on each item in order to detect the number of auras, the strength of each aura, and the school of magic that might affect each item. (Detect Magic, Spellcraft). She takes a good sniff from the vials in an attempt to identify the contents. (Profession-aclchemist)*

Piles of Shiny Stuff (DM JohnP)
Monday June 5th, 2006 10:36:53 PM

Everyone arrives back at the apartment in the Trade Quarter, weary and sore following the combat in the basement of Lady Ilonia's mansion. Kadaz, Conner and Arm carry most of the material in bulging sacks and dump them out onto a table. Everyone is quite interested in what exactly some of the equipment is.

Thar and Ash were invited to join everyone else inside the apartment. Ash isn't entirely certain what is going so he retreats to a corner with Shelya. Someone really should sit down with the druid and explain the workings of city life to him. Thar, though, is planning to report back to the church but joins in with the discussion of dividing the loot.

Kadaz then makes the sensible suggestion of getting everything identified before there's any discussion of how to share it out.

Shadow decides that he needs to clean up before getting to work opening the metal box. However Mira gets right to work examining the magical items, trying to tell what she can with her knowledge of arcane items and spells.

She gleans the following information about the arms and armor:
Full plate armor - faint abjuration
Spiked light steel shield - faint abjuration
Breastplate armor- faint abjuration
Longsword - faint evocation

The miscellaneous items are a bit more work for the sorcerer. The three cloaks are nearly identical. Each is rust red in color and lined with very fine silk in the same color. She can't tell much about the first one that she examines, but she learns that the last two have faint abjuration magic.

The magical ring has an aura of faint abjuration while the bracers have an aura of moderate conjuration. She can't tell anything about the wand except that it has a faint aura.

She sniffs and gazes at the potions in an attempt to discern what they are. She is convinced that at least one of the three from the cultists in the Sanctum are Cure Moderate Wounds. Two of the three from the thieves' apartment are Cure Light Wounds.
DM JohnP - Potion identification is now a Spellcraft check, not Craft Alchemy.

Kadaz, being the dwarf, is assigned the task of counting the coin. He reaches a tally of 819 gold and 125 silver, just from the loose coin so far.

No one has yet opened the purses or the metal box.

Arm
Tuesday June 6th, 2006 6:02:07 AM

Arm gazes in adoration at Mira while she ministrates over the items. When she is finished, he catches her eye and smiles warmly at her. Walking over to her, he takes her hand in his, and looks over their spoils yet again. To Kadaz, he says, "Not only that, my friend, but we have 4 gems as well, so that should quite take care of the identification fees.". Still holding Mira's hand, he waits for Shadow to work his trade on the box, and wonders if the stone chalice has any other powers besides fortelling the future, if that is indeed what happened to him.

Conner
Tuesday June 6th, 2006 7:38:12 AM

The fighter makes his excuses and retires to his room. "Let me know when we're ready to go to the catacombs" he murmers on his way to his cot.

Thar ail Baerer
Tuesday June 6th, 2006 9:39:31 AM

Thar relaxes in the room and checks on his moderate wounds, waiting for the group to finish their investigations of the items and money that have been found.

Noting that the group will soon divide the loose coin, Thar comments "I know that I wasn't involved for a part of your adventure and as such, would be willing to take less than a full share when you divide the loose coin."

"In regards to identifying the rest of the items, is there a mage we could pay to identify these, or do you (Mira) have the ability to cast that spell?"

Shadow  d6+2=6
Tuesday June 6th, 2006 11:51:28 AM

Shadow comes out of the room he stays in looking refreshed and feeling it also. He approaches the table and sees that Mira is hard at work trying to determine what each item is that has some form of magic attuned to it. "Let's look at the pouches first." Shadow will examine each one to make sure they are not trapped. (Since there is no hurry he will take a 20.) If they are not trapped he will hand them to Kadaz if they are or he thinks they are he will set them aside to disarm outside or at least away from the other stuff.

Once that is done he will start to work on the metal box. (again taking his time, take 20). If it is not trapped he will see if he can open it.

(OOC: 6hp for 5th level, and cs to follow tomorrow [i hope] )

Kadaz (HP 33/63)
Tuesday June 6th, 2006 12:56:49 PM

Kadaz takes the purses from Shadow and cautiously opens each. He separates out coins and other valuables and carefully counts everything. "Don't forget we have two jeweled daggers that appear to be worth something. Shadow, can you tell what these are worth?"

Kadaz will watch Shadow work on the box. "You know, my axe will open that box in no time" he offers hopefully.

Once all the coins and valuables are counted Kadaz begins polishing the weapons to make them more appealing and valuable. And now - time for treasure division. And for that you need a dwarf.

"I suggest we take all of the magical items as well as the good quality weapons and armor to the Catacombs. There we have everything idenfitied and valued. We pay for this service by trading in nonmagical items because we don't really need them and they weigh a lot more than the gems.

Once we have the worth of the remaining items, we add in coins and divide the total by 7. Then we roll to set up a priority order. First person picks a magic item, then next, then next. Once we go though the order once, we reverse it so that the unluck person who picked last gets to pick first in the 2nd round. And we keep going until all items are taken. If you want something that's more valuable than the remaining part of your share you can add coin to the pile to make up for it."

"If Thar and Ash decide to stay with us they should get a full share because they were there for the big fight. And the items they pick will remain in the party. But if either wished to leave then they should get only a half share."

"So, what do you say?" Kadaz stops talking and continues polishing one of the swords.

"Oh - and by the way, tomorrow could I get some healing? Those cultists did a number on me and I am still feeling it."

Ash
Tuesday June 6th, 2006 3:22:10 PM

Ash rises from where he has been sitting. Walking over to Kadaz he says "Pardon me sir. Did you just request healing? My apologies for I heard you not if you inqired earler."

Ash seems embarrased by this and says nothing more, just stands before Kadaz in a seeming trance. After approximately 30 seconds, he asks Kadaz "May I see your injuries?"

Mira
Tuesday June 6th, 2006 6:43:07 PM

"Abjuration...abjuration...abjuration..." Mira looks up and sees Arm gazing at her. "Sorry," she says with an appologetic shrug of her shoulders, continuing, "I've always been a Conjuration and Evocation kind of gal!" Mira continues, "for what its worth, most of these items are imbued with magics that protect, block, or banish...something." Picking up the ring, and one of the cloaks, she examines them a little more closely, "maybe for protection...against something?" Picking up the bracers, she continues, "now, these are different! Conjuration!. Maybe Bracers of Armor? Providing an invisible field of force for the wearer?" Finally, Mira picks up the wand. She frowns and tries to remember the wands she has seen or used. There was her old wand of Magic Missile that she had traded in, and then there was the party's wand of curing, that the paladin had taken with him when he had left the party.

"I guess it would be best to bring the lot to the Catacombs. But, don't sell the magic stuff until we know for sure that no one needs it! The clerks are sharp bargainers, and won't give you full price! Kadaz? You want to do the honours?"

Turning to the newcomers, Mira adds her invitation as well. "We've got beds to spare. Why don't you stay with us a while? Until you get Plateau City figured out anyway?"

Mira is anxious to visit the bath house, and get something to eat. A visit to the Catacombs will have to wait until the dwarf reports back.

(OOC: I'm okay with the plans for sharing treasure. BTW, there are no character stories in the Adventurer's Repose for the newcomers. I would like to learn more about Ash and Thar.-Carla)

Polishing the Loot (DM JohnP)
Tuesday June 6th, 2006 10:19:59 PM

While some people, like the tired Conner, simply retire for the night the others devise a means of dividing the spoils.

Things get more interesting after Shadow takes the time to study the purses. As he suspected, the purses are not trapped. When he loosens the strings and pours them out, there is a flood of coin across the table. After the last of the coins is collected, Arm starts counting.

However, Shadow has been working on the box at the same time. After some wiggling and finagling, he is able to pop open the lock. There is more loose coin and, tucked into the bottom corners, 5 small gray pearls. The coin is poured into the pile that Arm is working on. Thar now pitches in to help with the sorting and stacking. When they get done, they come to a total that is equivalent to 2500 gp. Obviously, there's good money to be had in running a death cult.

Shadow studies the pearls and the four amethysts found earlier and comes up with his best guess for their value. He figures that the pearls are each worth 100 gp while the gems are only 75 gp each.

Kadaz comes up with a very sound plan for dividing up the loot. It will simply require someone, probably him, to haul all this stuff to the nearest Catacombs franchise outlet and get it identified and valuated. Then the group can get on with dividing up the spoils. While he does, the druid Ash casts a healing spell on the dwarf fighter.

Mira theorizes about what her divinations might have revealed. While she's thinking on that, she remembers the spellbook from the mage. While it's wizard's type of thing, she recalls that a Read Magic spell will allow her to determine what has been written in it. Since her spell didn't detect any nasty protective magics on the book, she goes ahead and peruses the book. She determines that the book is nearly full, with 44 pages being used. The exact spells inside are mainly necromantic, which isn't surprising.
DM Note - not bothering with listing spells unless the spellbook is put to some other use besides selling for cash.

DM Note - Feel free to take the stuff to the Catacombs for identification and valuation.

Kadaz
Wednesday June 7th, 2006 5:28:26 AM

Kadaz responds to Ash's offer."Ash, sorry, at the temple I was still on guard and missed you offer. If you would, I would appreciate some healing magic. Thank you very much."

"As to the treasure, I volunteer to take it all to the Catacombs and have it valued. I will be back as soon as possible." Kadaz gathers up the items, packs as tightly as possible, and staggers out the door carrying everything. "See you at Sampson's."

Arm
Wednesday June 7th, 2006 5:53:28 AM

Arm responds quickly to Kadaz' aid, saying, "There's no need for you to carry the burden yourself, my friend. Please allow me to help you.".

With that, he takes some of the larger items from him, so that he does not trip over them on the way to the Catacombs, "At least it will be a bit lighter on the return trip," he thinks.

Conner
Wednesday June 7th, 2006 8:07:02 AM

The big fighter sleeps. His dreams are plagued by his memories of nature's uprising. A city clerk going from door to door collecting th enames of the dead, his list already pages and pages long.

When finally he awakes, the fatigue of battle has washed away and he knows what he must do. The monument to those lost in the Fae uprising must be completed.

Thar ail Baerer
Wednesday June 7th, 2006 10:07:13 AM

Thankful that the group has asked him to stay on, Thar says "Yes, I'd like to continue adventuring with you and appreciate the equal share. I like Kadaz's idea for picking out magic items and just let me know where I am in the selection order.:

Seeing that no other critical tasks await, Thar says "I'm going to use up my last four spells to heal myself, revelie for a while and pray for my spells, so I'll be back to full strength. I'll then see you all at either the Catacombs or Sampsons."

He then takes a bed near Conner and begins his revelie.

DM Sanity Check =

Uses up his four Cure Minor Wounds (0 Level, Spont. Casting) and heals four more hp's of damage.

Shadow
Wednesday June 7th, 2006 11:56:01 AM

Shadow after getting the purses checked, opening the metal box, and trying to guess at the value of the gems, realizes just how tired he is, "Well, I need some sleep or will be useless to us all, so goodnight." With that he will head to his bed and collapse and fall into a very deep sleep for a couple of hours. Once refreshed he will see what the group has found out about their horde of stuff.

Mira  d20+2=7 d20+2=3
Wednesday June 7th, 2006 6:33:29 PM

With the bard and dwarven fighter gone with the loot, and Conner,Thar, and Shadow catching some z's, Mira decides its time to visit the bath-house. The sorcerer stores most of her gear in her room, but takes her pack with a fresh set of clothes, and other essentials. With a wistful look at the empty bed that used to be Evan's, she gently closes the bedroom door.

Mira locates the bathhouse and pays the required fee for general access to the common bath areas. She enquires if a massage could be had for a little extra? "Not one of those namby-pamby relaxation massages, either!" she adds.

The sorcerer keeps her eyes and ears open (Spot=7, Listen=3, ugh) but the effort of tapping into her physical resources in order to deploy her magics have left the mage rather fatigued. Her mind drifts, and she wonders about the long term affect of Arm having sipped from the chalice.

Ash  d8+5=8

Ash sits cross-legged beside Kadaz, looking at the various injuries, staring as out into nothing. Clapping his hands together and concentrating for a second, Ash then puts his hands on the wounds and meditates, allowing the energy to transfer from him to Kadaz.

Rest & Recovery (DM JohnP)
Wednesday June 7th, 2006 10:37:42 PM

Kadaz and Arm head off to the Catacombs to have the loot identified and valuated. Before they go, Ash casts one more healing spell on the dwarf.

Everyone else tries to relax while they wait to find out exactly how rich they now are. They relax in a variety of ways, but they're all planning what to do with their newfound wealth.

Arm
Thursday June 8th, 2006 6:02:16 AM

Still at the Catacombs, Arm yawns broadly, hoping that their business will be concluded soon so that he may garner some well-deserved rest. His thoughts wander, as they often have as of late, to Mira, and he regrets not asking her to join them.

Once Thar finishes his reverie and praying, he tells Conner and Shadow (if they are awake yet) that he is going to go to the temple and report what's happened, especially regarding the Lady and the cult's involvement. Since his mission is completed, he notifies the church leaders that he is going to continue traveling with this party, as they seem a capable bunch and there are many evils going on in the world that need to be righted.

He then heads back to the room and continues waiting on Arm to return with their items.

Since his mission is completed, he notifies the church leaders that he is going to continue traveling with this party, as they seem a capable bunch and there are many evils going on in the world that need to be righted. He does ask the church for some healing of his wounds, as they were incurred in the course of his duty and he wants to save his spells for possible needs in battle.

He then heads back to the room and continues waiting on Arm to return with their items.

Mira
Thursday June 8th, 2006 7:42:04 PM

Finishing up at the bath house, Mira experiments with a couple of different hair-dos. She coils her hair into loops over her ears, but the effect is less then desirable. Looks like a couple of danish pastries! she thinks. She tries a series of tiny tight braids, but after a while her head starts to hurt. It takes a long time to undo the many small plaits, but finally she is done. Staring at the mass of crinkly frizz in the mirror, the mage sighs. 100 brush strokes and a few minutes later, her dark brown hair is returned to its customary single tight braid just past her shoulders.

On her way back to the apartment, she drops her soiled clothes off for cleaning, making arrangements to pick them up later in the week. She keeps her eyes open for a market stall and picks up a couple of bottles of wine, a loaf of crusty bread, a small wheel of cheese, and any fruit that might look good.

Returning to the apartment she shares with Conner, Kadaz, Shadow, Arm, and now Thar and Ash, she places her purchases on the large table in the common room. "Either of you any good at opening these things?" she asks holding out a bottle towards the newcomers and watching them with emerald green eyes behind little round spectacles.

Home from the Market (DM JohnP)
Thursday June 8th, 2006 10:19:24 PM

Kadaz and Arm are still out getting the loot from their adventure appraised. The two adventurers are leaning against the counter wondering what is taking so long. In the back they can overhear the staff reading aloud the information on some kind of new product.

Back in the apartment, Mira gets back from the bathhouse and the market. She's assembled the makings of a simple meal and asks for help with opening the wine. She and Conner joke back and forth with Shadow while the meal is being prepared. Thar looks on with amusement while Ash quietly sits with Shelya.

Mira manages to find enough cups and mugs for everyone and then chairs are pulled up to the table. The conversation flows slowly at first and then picks up after the second bottle of wine is opened. Everyone has plans for their share of the loot. Talk turns to darker things as they review what has occurred in the past several days.

Lady Ilonia is still free, of course. The Plateau City Defense League is still promoting hatred against elves, although no one knows how or when the news of the death cult will leak out and what that will do the Defense League. By the time the third bottle is open, it's a pretty maudlin group.

When the third bottle is upended and emptied, Conner and the others realize that they're still hungry. And in need of some good news. Of course, their thoughts turn to Sampson's.

Mira walks over to one of the small windows that faces out on the street. The sorcerer looks up and down the street to see if the bard and dwarf are there, and then she looks up to the sky, to try and gauge the time of day.

With a sigh she returns to the table and starts to clear up. "You figure we should head over to Samson's?" she asks. "The bread and cheese took the edge off, but I'm ready for a cooked meal." Mira pulls at her lower lip, then continues, "we could leave a note for the others?"

"A meal at Sampson's would suit me fine" the fighter agrees.

Off to Sampson's (DM JohnP)
Monday June 12th, 2006 11:57:05 AM

Kadaz and Arm are still waiting patiently at the counter in the local Catacombs outlet. Both are getting somewhat hungry and wondering what their companions are up to.

Everyone else but Ash follows Mira out of the apartment and off to Sampson's. It's getting close to evening in the Trade Quarter so the merchants and artisans are closing up their shops. With few shoppers left on the street there is some good-natured bantering back and forth. When the group exits the apartment, the old halfling man who looks after the building nods to them from where he sits in the fading sun.

Walking through the streets, several people nod and smile at the party. Maybe the group is getting some recognition in the neighbourhood, or perhaps rumors are flying about their role in solving the murder of Tredegar. Either way, it's nice to be appreciated. Conner, especially, seems to be recipient of the recognition from the neighbours.

When everyone reaches Sampson's they decide that it's still too cool to sit outside so they enter the tavern. Sampson nods from behind the counter and the staff whose arms aren't loaded with food wave and smile. The new busboy, the refugee from Floating City, hurries to clear off a table large enough for everyone. After everyone has chosen a seat, the server comes up with a smile. Shadow, of course, has tried to slide into a seat against the wall.

"What'll it be tonight? The stew's really fine and there's still some good fish. For dessert, Sampson got in some sticky buns from a new bakery in the Quarter. Everyone who has tried them really like thems."

The server, a smiling human woman, looks at Thar.

"Who's your new friend? Don't think that I've seen him with you before?"

While people are considering what to order, they can't help but notice a slightly built half-elf sitting at a nearby table. His bowl of stew is sitting unnoticed by his elbow while he furiously scribbles in a notebook. Shadow had glanced when he walked by the half-elf and noticed the drawings of fantastic mechanical devices.

Loot Pick List (DM JohnP)
Monday June 12th, 2006 12:05:57 PM

DM Note - Starting the process here in the board for selection of loot. This includes the potions not yet identified in the Catacombs (which I'm trying to clear up).

If there is an item that everyone agrees should be shared party loot, I'll re-calculate the split.

You can either wait to post until your turn in the pick sequence is up, or give a priority of choices (e.g. first choice, second choice, etc.). Or you can even go conditional (e.g. if this is available, I'll take it otherwise I'll take that or whatever).

Cash Award (DM JohnP)
Monday June 12th, 2006 12:29:11 PM

The total cash from the adventure was 2506 gp. Split seven ways, that is 358 gp for each person.

I will also be sending an e-mail note.

Arm
Monday June 12th, 2006 2:05:26 PM

OOC: Since I don't believe I can wear bracers, as my first choice I'll go for the ring of protection. If that's not available, I'll take one of the cloaks of resistance.

Edmund
Monday June 12th, 2006 3:16:57 PM

Busily employed in the design of some new (and probably disastrous) invention, good-natured Edmund hardly notices the adventurers filing into Sampson's. Scribble-scribble, and the pages of the notebook slowly fill with a poorly-drawn graphite sketch of an ornithopter. The now-cold bowl of stew sits long forgotten, occasionally jostled by the shaking of the table.

All the while, Edmund is talking to himself quietly, making changes, revisions, additions, deletions, and compiling a prodigous list of addendums, errata, and modifications. "No, no. Better to have the width four times the length fore-to-aft. Yes. Yes. Yes! No. No-no-no. Jimbles! I say!"

Such is the nature of the jumbled and feverish speech which tumbles from his lips as he works, completely unaware of anything around him. Sampson's could burn to the ground around his table and he would probably continue on, pausing only to wipe the sweat from his brow.

Finally, with a great heave of breath, he slams the notebook shut and sits up straight. "By Jove, I've got it!" he exclaims, folding his hands together and resting his elbows on the table in a satisfied manner. One elbow goes straight into the stew bowl, causing it to upend rather violently. It deposits its contents on the table, the floor, the notebook, and Edmund. With a shout of horror, Edmund wildly clutches at the notebook, knocks the bowl off the table, flails his arms, and succeeds in falling off his chair with a crash.

Kadaz
Monday June 12th, 2006 4:12:02 PM

Kadaz looks over the treasure. "Wait a minute. I think the wand of cure moderate wounds should be held back as party treasure. I would very much like for us to have this wand when we get in the next fight, and I don't think it would be fair to ask one of our healers to take it as part of their share. We all will benefit from it. "

"So, if we do that then the total amount to divide is 16,998 gold and 4 silver. And an even split of this is 2,428 gold and some change. I suggest we work off this amount for the good of the party."

As for the treasure division, when his turn finally comes Kadaz will, if it's left, take the magical plate. As this will probably be gone, his next choice is a cloak of resistance, and then the 2 jeweled daggers. Nothing else is really of great use to him.

Kadaz looks over at the nearby table where some very clumsy person has spilled soup all over himself. "A bit early in the day for drinking, isn't it friend?" he asks.

Shadow
Monday June 12th, 2006 6:12:12 PM

Shadow listens as the group discusses what to do with their new found wealth. "I would like the ring, but don't feel it necessary for me to have it. Instead I will take the rapier, which will give me a back up to my current weapon, and would like one of the daggers. As for the wand I think you are correct Kadaz and it should be part of the party share." Shadow gives a severe look at the very loud and clumsy person.

Conner  d20+4=22 d20-2=7
Monday June 12th, 2006 9:19:26 PM

Conner walks through the neighbourhood towards Sampson's politely nodding to the citizens who seem to be noticing the group. "What's that all about?" he asks aloud once they are in Sampson's.

He takes his place at the table and when the matter of the loot is raised he considers it briefly. "Seem's like quite an interest in the ring" he muses, I think I'll be quite happy with my share in cash." He is about to tease Kadaz about how little of the dwarf will show under all that full plate when the commotion erupts behind him.

The burly fighter reaches down, and with one massive arm hauls the unfortunate man to his feet. "Easy on there son" he smiles broadly to show no ill intent. With his free hand he rights the man's chair and place it beneath him. "Now, who is 'Jove'?, what have you got? and why has it got you so upset?" With his last question he eases the befuddled man back into his chair. Conner hopes he hasn't frightened the man and smiles again, showing his big white teeth in what he hopes is not a grimace [Diplomacy=7].

Mira
Monday June 12th, 2006 10:25:47 PM

Talk turns to dividing up the loot, and a frown creases the sorcerer's brow. "I am not proficient with weapons such as those we have collected, so will not claim anything there, and with my magics I can summon protections that not only act as well as any armor, but actually provides protection against other magics."

Arm might understand, thinks Mira, but likely those without arcane abilities will find her talk confusing. "Since I am first to choose, I opt to take my share in gems and pearls, or gold, and will visit the Catacombs on the morrow."

Nodding her head when Kadaz suggests the wand be considered party goods, the green eyed woman voices her opinion, "absolutely! One who can wield it should have custody of it, and use it for the good of the party!"

Mira turns to see what has caused all the commotion, and spots Connor with a fist full of some unfortunate's cloak! Without knowing what has transpired, she calls out to the fighter, "Connor! Let him be! I'm sure he meant no harm!"

Arm
Tuesday June 13th, 2006 6:07:08 AM

While waiting and enjoying the relaxing atmosphere of Sampson's, Arm looks over curiously at the odd person who is causing all the commotion, "It takes all types," he thinks. Taking a draw on his tankard, he drapes his arm over Mira's shoulder and says, "It's ok, my dear...I don't think Conner will hurt him...much...", the last part he adds with a wry grin.

An Evening's Entertainment (DM JohnP)
Tuesday June 13th, 2006 9:12:47 AM

Everyone is smiling at the sight of Conner picking up the hapless half-elf who landed on the floor of Sampson's. The crash brough the new busboy over with a broom and pan. When he sees the clump of congealed stew on the floor he looks over at Kadaz and Birdie. While the busboy cleans up the broken crockery, he mutters under his breath.

"Gonna have to come back with a mop, less'n someone licks up that mess."

The attention to Birdie suddenly reminds everyone that they left Ash and his wolf in the house. And no one thought to enquire whether the wolf, or even the druid for that matter, was housetrained. Everyone looks at everyone else until someone volunteers to go back to fetch Ash and Shelya.

The party quietly sips on their drinks while waiting for their food to arrive. Hopefully Ash will turn up before the food does. Mira, Shadow and Kadaz all suggest that the recently acquired wand be considered common property. Arm is simply laughing at the commotion caused by the half-elf.

Thar ail Baerer
Tuesday June 13th, 2006 10:18:38 AM

Thar will go over to the half-elf who spilled all over himself and after Conner helps him up, says with a good natured grin "Hello, my friend. It seems like you've had a difficult morning and while you're waiting for your food to be picked up and table cleaned off, would you like to join us, providing you promise not to spill anymore?"

Looking at the server (who had asked about him), Thar says "Yes, ma'am. I'm new to this area and have recently joined this group. I've heard excellent things about your establishment and would like to have whatever today's special is."

(OOC - Sorry about yesterday's missing post. Big B-Day Party for Dad, who's mid-60 now. That and work tied up most of day...)

(Thar will choose the longsword +1 and I agree that the wand would make a good party item, as we'll all get good use out of it.)

Shadow
Tuesday June 13th, 2006 12:42:32 PM

"I will have an ale, and what are you serving today?" Shadow tells and asks the server.

He notices the interest that Conner has in this fairly strange fellow, so he observes what transpires between them.

Edmund
Tuesday June 13th, 2006 3:44:25 PM

Somewhat damp and stew-covered, Edmund was surprised enough to find himself on the floor. Being hauled up and set in a chair like a doll by a grinning giant of a man certainly didn't help his anxiety at all. Soon, finding himself surrounded by a cadre of entirely strange people--not the scholarly sort at all--he flushes and does his best to regain his composure. Some sort of reply, thanks, address is necessary. A speech, perhaps. Or a song. Maybe a bit of an oration. Too muddled to think, however, he flounders a bit.

"I... I... I... am very sorry! Didn't mean to cause a fuss. Quite unintentional. Very sorry. Bit of a row, really. Purely accidental. Not usually the clumsy sort. Absent-minded, maybe. But, fairly salient. Still, there it is. Stew on the floor, notebooks in the air, and me falling about like a great nutter. Very sorry."

After some considerable blathering on this tack, he calms down enough to see he is, in fact, surrounded by adventurers. Wholly and entirely ignoring their questions, he becomes excitable to the point of near-frenzy.

"You're adventurers, aren't you!? I say! You don't happen to need a wizard, do you? Well, apprentice wizard. Wizard-in-training. I mean, I dabble a bit. Inventor too, dont'cha know. Of course you do! Who doesn't need a wizard? I'm fantastic at cleaning things up. Been doing inns for months, now. A little dusting, a little washing. Think how nice it will be to carry on, fighting the hordes of evil thingys and whatsits with clean and shiny armour! Nothing like it, I'm sure. Well, not sure, but I suppose, at any rate. Oh, you really must take me along. I won't make much noise. I'm very quiet. I hardly eat anything. I won't be a bother. And surely, surely you need a wizard-type-person, don't you? Of course you do! So you must have me along, you must, and I'm glad we're all agreed! When do we set out?"

This breathless explosion of verbosity doesn't leave him fazed in the least. In fact, if unanswered, he looks like he very well may begin speaking again.

Kadaz
Tuesday June 13th, 2006 9:20:30 PM

Kadaz looks over at the self-proclaimed mage and has an idea. "Mira, do you think this guy might be able to decipher all of the spells in that spell book?"

On the list of magic items Kadaz again mentions that if its still there when his turn comes around he'd pick the magical plate mail.

As Birdie goes over to the spilled soup and tries to gobble it up up Kadaz does indeed think of the wolf and Ash. He goes outside to find one of the neighborhood kids who runs errands. Kadaz pulls out a silver and tosses it to a familiar lad. "Run to my home and find the stranger there, his name is Ash. Invite him back here to Sampsons and say supper is being served while we divy up loot. And don't annoy his wolf. They'll be another silver when you return."

Conner
Tuesday June 13th, 2006 10:27:33 PM

"Well now that we know what you are, you'd better tell us who you are, and just what upset you enought to spill your supper." Conner hopes the answers will be shorter than the first volley out of the mages mouth, but considers it unlikely. He tries to catch the eye of a serving girl and motions for another ale.

Mira  d20+5=21
Wednesday June 14th, 2006 1:12:25 AM

Mira swivels 'round in her chair, under the bard's arm. She had never heard one with elven blood, even if only part elven, talk so much in one go. "You say you're in training?" the sorcerer asks, continuing, "you mean your magic isn't...natural?" Mira looks up at the strange fellow, dwarfed by the big fighter standing next to him.

Emerald eyes magnified out of natural proportion stare unblinking through small round discs of glass. Mira's face is pale, framed by dark hair pulled back and braided into a tight plait. The human woman is of average height and build, however her leggings and plain tunic do not hide her feminine curves. Unconsciously she starts to toy with a silver and green pendant that hangs from the silver chain around her neck. Those who are observant will see that it appears to be a dragon in the form of the letter S.

"I am sorry," she apologises (Diplomacy=21) as rising from her seat she holds out a hand for the newcomer to shake. "My name is Mira. Mira Silver. Won't you come sit with us?"

If the waiter comes by to take orders, Mira will order a bottle of wine, and the fish.

Arm
Wednesday June 14th, 2006 5:55:24 AM

Not sure if it's the ale or the strange little man's speech, Arm feels a bit dizzy as he listens to his oratory, all the while trying his best to stifle a chuckle or ten. Rising to stand next to Mira, the bard extends his hand as well, saying, "My name is Armathen Ebano, but my friends call me Arm. It is certainly a pleasure to make your acquaintance.".

Introductions in Sampson's (DM JohnP)
Wednesday June 14th, 2006 8:05:58 AM

Several members of the party extend invitations to this rather loud half-elf at the neighbouring table. The voluble half-elf introduces himself as Edmund and proceeds into an self-invitation to the party.

All the while, the server has been taking orders. When Shadow mentioned that he didn't hear the specials, she repeats them with a smile. Finally she heads off to the kitchen where everyone can hear her telling the cook. Then she goes to the counter and starts pouring drinks for everyone.

Conner, Thar and Arm all respond in a friendly manner although none of them says anywhere near as much as Edmund.

Over to the side, Kadaz tries to engage Mira with a question about the spellbook. Mira shrugs since she hasn't given much thought to how wizards learn spells. She figures that it depends on what kind of magics this Edmund fellow studies.

Meanwhile, Kadaz is wondering whether the kid simply took off with the money because Ash hasn't shown up yet.

Eventually everyone's food arrives and people continue to discuss recent events. To no one's surprise, Edmund is fascinated by the party's tales of adventure in the basement of Lady Ilonia's mansion. Conner nearly has to physically restrain the mage when he wants to run off in pursuit of the villainess.

Eventually conversation turns to tomorrow's events and the coming week. Everyone has something that they need to do. Conner really should check back in with the stonemasons working on the marker. And several people are itching to spend some of the cash from the adventure. Shadow very likely needs to check in with the Guild.

Of course, there is the nagging worry about the Plateau City Defense League. Edmund hadn't noticed anything but no one is sure whether that's because he didn't encounter any of the racist thugs or if he simply didn't notice.

Not to mention Lady Ilonia. It would have been good to capture her. And there's no telling how much money and effort she will expend on revenge. Somehow, everyone thinks that she is the vengeful type.

Ash
Wednesday June 14th, 2006 8:22:20 AM

OOC: sorry about missing this week...computer vid card is in dire straits. As a result will probably be without a computer for another week or so... Hopefully can get my hands on a spare one.

Ash rises from his meditations and notices that everyone has gone missing. He leaves the apartment and begins searching for them.

Thar ail Baerer
Wednesday June 14th, 2006 10:23:18 AM

As Thar sits at the table and waits on his meal, he'll engage Edmund in further conversation, trying to find out more about his background (where he is from, the extent of his adventures to date, etc.).

To the group, he comments "In regards to our next steps, I'd like to continue pursuing the Lady, as she and I have some unfinished business. She may not have directly killed the priest from our temple, but was ultimately responsible for it. I don't know a lot about her operations, businesses and holdings, but could check in with our temple and see if their is more information there. What do you all think about that idea?"

(OOC - In re: to the 2nd step for treasure, I'll pass)

Shadow
Wednesday June 14th, 2006 1:12:07 PM

Shadow will try and keep up with the rattling of Edmund, but does not understand it all. He will wait for his dinner and the rest of the groups discussion about dividing the 'loot' up.

"I now have the stuff i can use, so will pass on the other stuff as well." He says as the talk continues. (OOC: round 3 pass)

Shadow (illegal 2nd post, but forgot to introdce myself)
Wednesday June 14th, 2006 1:13:39 PM

As the group introduces themselves to the funny little man, Shadow waits his turn and then says, "I am called Shadow and most of my work deals with just that, if you take my meaning." He waits to see the reaction from their new acquaintance.

Edmund  d20+9=25 d20+15=23
Wednesday June 14th, 2006 8:47:38 PM

Edmund will do his best to convince the party to take him along (Diplomacy=25), assisted by his affable and good-natured demeanour.

"Wizard vs. Wizard. Magic vs. Magic. Mageo e Mageo. That's the way to do it. Nothing like it. I'm not just good at cleaning--I'm useful in a pinch, too. Invaluable, in fact. Indesctructible, indefatgiable, and entirely fierce!"

Edmund waves his arms around a bit as he talks, and occasionally seems ready to leap to his feet. He is excited to pursue the 'evil elf sorceress queen' as quickly as possible, for this is how Edmund thinks of her, and is unlikely to consider revising his estimation of Lady Ilonia.

Asked about his past and recent adventures, Edmund answers honestly, seeing no reason not to be forthcoming. He tells the party about his home in the Contested Kingdoms, where his father was a renowned orator--a path Edmund's younger brother now follows. For his part, Edmund chose to set out in search of fame and fortune--but primarily fame. He is not very good with money, wastes it extravagantly, and is generally very frivolous in spending. This led to him cleaning inns and taverns with his magic, in exchange for room and board. Sampson's is clearly the latest stop in his adventure.

He is impressed with Mira's innate ability to use magic, though he has heard rumours of such things before. When informed of the spellbook, he becomes very excited. "I know four languages: Common, Undercommon, Elven, and Draconion!" he proudly informs the party.

If given the chance, he will attempt to read the spellbook for them and inform them of its contents. If it is not in a language he knows, he will cast Read Magic (Spellcraft=23) in order to discover the contents.

Ash
Wednesday June 14th, 2006 9:09:09 PM

Ash finding the rest of the group at the dining place they mentioned, moves to join them, Shelya walking beside him.

"hello", he greets them, smiling somewhat absently.

Mira
Thursday June 15th, 2006 12:56:19 AM

"Wena rokine" says Mira, offering friendship to the young half-elf, and working hard to pronounce the words properly.

Mira turns back towards Arm, and squeezes his arm excitedly. "Even though he gets his magic from books, it would be nice to have another magic user in our company. What do you think? And, he speaks draconic! " she whispers, as her eyes meetthe bard's.

Why had she never noticed the gold flecks in the half-elf's green eyes before?

Mira is suddenly shy, and drops her gaze. Letting go of the bard's arm, she starts to fumble with the cloak draped over the back of her chair.

Conner
Thursday June 15th, 2006 1:29:38 AM

The fighter sits, staring into the amber depths of his ale with fierce, dark eyes under dark eyebrows. A little shorter than average height, Conner is thickly built, his frame well muscled and lean. It is the kind of muscle built from heavy physical labor. A thick black mustache covers his upper lip, and extends down each side of his mouth into chops that curl under his square chin. His short black hair is clipped into a Mohawk, 1 inch in the front and tapering down to stubble at the back. A large tattoo stretches across the right side of his head, extending down his cheek and partly encircling his right eye. As his thoughts turn dark, so does the tattoo.

The man tunes out the excited kid. Pushing the empty mug away, he rises. "Got to get an early start tomorrow. Got business on Purse Street with Torkelson, the stonemason."

Conner wonders how much progress the dwarf has made on the monument he has commissioned, and how many new names have been added to the list of those who had died as a result of the Fey King's awakening.

Arm makes good with Conner's comment, "Yes, I must take my leave as well...we've had a LONG period since we've had any sleep, and we really need to re-charge. We'll meet you here on the morrow.".

Reaching for Mira's hand, he stops her and helps drape her cloak over her shoulders. When he is finished, he takes her hands in one of his, and lifts her chin up so she can gaze at him. Putting on his most charming smile, he says to her, "Would you care to take a short walk with me before we retire?".

DM Announcement (JohnP)
Thursday June 15th, 2006 10:58:09 AM

I'm home with sick children today so I may not be able to do a DM post until tonight.

In Sampson's (JohnP)
Thursday June 15th, 2006 9:59:27 PM

Everyone continues to take turns with dividing up the loot. Several people prefer to take the cash, presumably to buy some other items.

When mention is made of the spellbook, Edmund's eartips start twitching and he anxiously asks to peruse the tome. He casts a minor magic and starts poring over the book. As he does so, he makes a series of disappointed noises.
DM Note - See separate post for spellbook details

Of course, long before he was done this study Ash had wandered into Sampson's and been directed to the table. He sits quietly with the rest, goggling at the sights and sounds.

In the silence while Edmund is reading instead of talking, most people try to introduce themselves. However, Mira and Arm seem to be having their own private conversation to the side.

After a while, the server and busboy return to remove the empty dishes. In the afterglow of the meal, Thar and Conner announce their plans for the morrow. When Conner pushes himself to his feet, most everyone takes that as their cue to leave.

Walking together through the early night streets of Trade Quarter, both Ash and Thar marvel at how much darker the city is. Unlike forest trees, the building block everything but those stars directly overhead. Still, it's quiet and no one moves to interfere with the group moving through the streets.

After arriving back at the apartment, everyone returns to their rooms. There are a couple spare rooms for the newcomers if they wish to stay at the apartment. While some may wish to stay up to chat, Conner turns in for the night.

Edmund
Friday June 16th, 2006 1:24:55 AM

As this is the first spellbook Edmund has ever come across, he is shocked to find it is written in the same arcane magical writing he was (slowly and painstakingly) taught. After carefully reading the spellbook, which takes nearly forty-five minutes, he shuts the book with a shake of his head, following the various party members up to the apartment.

"Most of it useless, I'm afraid. To me, that is. I mean, if you know any Necromancers, this thing is practically a beginner's primer. It should be entitled 'Basic Necromancy for the Undead Master in You'. Anyway, these spells are beyond my capability. My focus on Enchantment led to a couple studies being neglected. Necromancy was one of them."

"But," he says, smiling once more, "it's not entirely useless. There are seven spells in here which I could use, some more useful than others. Ultimately, there are two which I consider very useful. Given four days, and the expenditure of some of my savings, I could copy them into my own spellbook. Probably. I mean, there's an element of chance and difficulty to it, considering the difference in the notation from my own method..." Edmund trails off into a long, in-depth, and exhaustive description of the finer details of arcane magical notation which lasts the entire trip to the apartment, and is only interrupted by the arrival. This is probably meaningless to the rest of the party, who merely hear the Edmund-sounding equivalent of "Blah, blah, blah, what? I say! Blah, hey-hey, blah! Good heavens! Blah, blah, blah..."

Given the opportunity to study the spellbook and copy the desired spells, Edmund will practically jump up and down with pleasure. Bowing repeatedly and excessively, he will retire to one of the unuused apartment rooms to rest for the difficult process of studying and copying the two spells (Mirror Image and See Invisibility).

Otherwise, he will thank the party members present for allowing him to at least examine the spellbook and will express hope of find something similar at a later date, doing his best to keep a positive outlook despite his disappointment. He will bow politely and genially, expressing a desire to see them all in the morning.

Whatever the case, Edmund has already made his decision about the people in the party. He likes them and thinks they are, "Capital fellows of the first water. And a capital lady, too. First water there as well. First water."

He has no intention of letting them go off without him, whether they like it or not!

Arm
Friday June 16th, 2006 5:57:00 AM

Arm sighs in exasperation at the ramblings of their new companion, "I can only hope that he doesn't prattle on so when there is a need for silence," he thinks to himself. However, a wizard is a wizard, and having him will definitely take the pressure off of Mira. Speaking of Mira, he looks down at her inquisitively when they reach the apartment, wondering if she is either afraid or too shy to venture off for a few moments alone with him.

Shadow
Friday June 16th, 2006 10:05:07 AM

"I think we all could use some rest, so I am going to get a good nights rest. Tomorrow I will need to check in with my Guild, but that should not be an issue. I would also like to visit the Catacombs and possibly make a purchase there with my remaining share of the money."

Shadow will then head off to bed once the group gets back to the apartment.

Thar ail Baerer
Friday June 16th, 2006 11:12:35 AM

Thar finishes his food and says "Well group, do we want to finish our food and then decide what to do? Or should we head back to the apartment and after everyone else gets a good night sleep, decide then?"

As he gets up from the table, he says "I've already slept and want to go to the catacombs for some quick business. I'll come back to the apartment after that."

"Does anyone else have any business they want to do, before we decide on our next path?"

If no one answers, he'll head out of the tavern and go to the local branch of the Catacombs.

Ash
Saturday June 17th, 2006 2:48:50 PM

Ash nods quietly, listening carefully to everyone, then says "I will go wherever you all decide to go."

Conner
Sunday June 18th, 2006 12:47:03 PM

The fighter spends a restfull night and awakens refreshed and ready for the new day. His first sortie will be a trip to the city clerk to retrieve the list of names of those who perished during the Fae King's awakening. The second visit would be to Thurl Torkelson, the dwarven stonemason on Purse Street who had promised to build the monument. He wanted to see what progress his 200 gold peices had bought, and he needed to get the list of names to Thurl.

Conner asks any who have awakened early if they would like to acccompany him.

"I wonder if we can have the monument blessed" he wonders aloud.

Thar ail Baerer
Sunday June 18th, 2006 3:08:32 PM

After Thar's business is concluded the previous day in the Catacombs, he tells Conner "I'd be willing to help bless it, if you'd like. I want to talk to my temple and find out more info on the Lady's background, and when the monument is ready, let me know and I'll take care of blessing it."

Ash
Sunday June 18th, 2006 4:20:19 PM

Ash, waking up the next morning, confesses his interest, "What is this catacombs that you all speak of? In my homeland, we do not bury our dead in catacombs, but leave them to the elements. Do you honour your dead by entombing them? I can contribute to such an endeavour if you so wish?"

Kadaz
Sunday June 18th, 2006 4:25:11 PM

Kadaz is exceedingly happy at having managed to obtain the plate mail. As far as he's concerned the more armor he's wearing the better! But one problem - who can size this to fit him?

"Arm or Conner, know any armorers?" he asks.

Conner
Sunday June 18th, 2006 5:13:48 PM

"Try it on first, you'd be surprised how well it might fit" The fighter advices his friend. Quality armor like that will need few adjustments.

[OOC: Magic armor sizes itself to fit the wearer as long as it is in the same size class i.e. medium - doesn't it?]

Mira
Sunday June 18th, 2006 8:28:09 PM

The sorcerer is surprised by Arm's gentle touch as he helps her with her cloak, and then touches her face. "Just a little walk. Not very far. I am very tried," she whispers, in response to his enquiry. When the party is outside Sampson's, Mira tries to listen to what folks are planning. She hopes someone offers the talkative wizard the opportunity of crashing at their flat. There are, after all, 4 bedrooms and 8 cots, plus the common room with its smoky hearth, large scarred table, and benches.

Mira turns towards the river. "How about the little park on Riverside Road where Conner wants to erect the monument?" she suggests threading an arm through the bard's.

http://www.woldiangames.com/maps/yrth/peninsula/newelenna/plateaucity/trade_quarter.htm

********
The next day Mira listens to the gruff fighter articulate his plans. "Have you thought about what you want on the monument? Besides the names of the...you know...those who perished?" Mira waits for a moment, sympathetic to the man's altruistic intentions, before continuing, "something like,

Plateau City Trade Quarter-for a just and integrated society, where diversity is valued and where everyone has an equal chance to live free from fear of discrimination, prejudice and racism
or
All beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. As such, everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person."

Mira looks at the fighter, to see what what he thinks of her suggestion.

Arm
Monday June 19th, 2006 6:03:51 AM

Arm smiles at Mira's willingness, then continues with her to the park that she mentioned. Once there, he finds a bench for them to be seated. Sinking onto it gratefully, the weight of the past few days...in fact the past several months...seeming to take up residence on his shoulders, he takes both her hands in his and begins, "We have known each other for nigh close to 3 years now, and we've been through a lot together. The more time I spend with you, the more I am attracted to you, not only on a physical level but on a spiritual and intellectual level as well. I stood by and said nothing while you were with Evan, as I thought of him as a brother, just as I do the rest of our group, and I respected you for the choice that you made. As I said before, though, I'm not asking to replace Evan in your heart...what I WOULD like is for you to open a place in your heart for me. In this time of such great uncertainty, it would be nice to have someone that the both of us can count on, no matter what.". Letting go of her hands, he cups her face in his hands and gently kisses her, assuming she allows it.

The next morning, after probably the first good sleep he's had in quite some time, Arm smiles at Kadaz and says, "I believe what Conner says is the truth, my friend. However, you may want to try that gentleman that we helped a while back with his son...HE may be able to provide you with making some adjustments. Other than that, I know not of an armorer.". With a sidelong glance at Mira, a smile comes to his face as he adjusts the buckles on HIS new armor.

Thar ail Baerer
Monday June 19th, 2006 9:29:49 AM

In response to Ash's question, he says "Sorry for the confusion. I was referring to the local branch of the magic item/equipment shop called the Catacombs."

Shadow
Monday June 19th, 2006 11:51:01 AM

After a goodnights sleep, Shadow wakes refreshed and and breaks fast with his companions, old and new. After the group is done and starting to head in their own directions Shadow says, "I am going to check in with the Guild, and then might stop by the Catacombs." With that Shadow will head over to the Guild and report the latest news to the Daymaster and see if there is anything pressing with them.

Edmund  d20+15=30 d20+15=27
Monday June 19th, 2006 1:40:04 PM

Edmund is only too happy to take the spellbook off to his room to begin studying it before the party sells it. "Might as well get a little use out of it first," he says, cheerily.

Before he sits down to work, he purchases the necessary materials of special quills, inks, and the like for 400gp from the local scrivner's supply. [200gp per ea. L.2 spell]

When he reaches his room, he begins the four-day task of reading, studying, and scribing the spells into his spellbook. He is surprisingly quiet during the entire procedure. Of course, he isn't silent. The party, if near his door, can occasionally hear the odd exclamation now and again: "I say!" "Oh, so that's how!" "Jimbles!"

Edmund's studies of Mirror Image [Spellcraft=30] and See Invisibility [Spellcraft=27] will, if successful, take up four solid days of studying and writing. At the end of this time, he will likely change the spells he normally memorises.

[OOC: Even though I rolled these spellcraft checks, I'm still interested in the option to Take 10 on future checks referring to understanding/scribing spells into my spellbook.]

Ash
Monday June 19th, 2006 7:46:16 PM

Ash decides that since everyone else is going about their business, he will explore a bit of the City, especially the Druid quarter of the City.

A New Day Dawns (DM JohnP)
Monday June 19th, 2006 10:08:03 PM

DM Apology - After looking after sick children on Thursday, I was be-plagued for the weekend.

Everyone wakes to a new day in Plateau City. They all have plans and make ready to go out an about the city.

+++++

Everyone, that is, except for the newly arrived wizardly type. Edmund shuts himself into the room suggested by the others and doesn't come out very often. Occasionally someone thinks to put a plate by the door and even less often it disappears.

+++++

Arm and Mira enjoyed a quiet walk back from Sampson's the night before. Everyone else wonders exactly what happens because the two seem somehow different in their attitudes to one another.

Arm had been considering one of the pieces of armor recovered from the mansion but gets second thoughts and decides to buy new.

+++++

One of the first things that Mira does in the morning is discuss the plans that Conner has for the monument. She makes a couple of suggestions for a declaration on the stone, both inspired by the group's recent encounters with the Defense League. Conner looks thoughtful as he heads out to the local registrar's office. He arrives in time to see a clerk opening the door and, after waiting briefly, the fighter is able to be first to enter the office. The last clerk that Conner frightened isn't there but his list apparently is. The meek little half-elf who opened the door mutters something.

"There's a scribing fee of 1 silver a page. That came to 4 silvers. Lot of folks, really."

The clerk hands the list over to Conner, who glances down at it. The fighter realizes that there are over 50 names per page written in tightly packed script, totalling somewhere between 160 and 180 people known to have died from just Trade Quarter alone. If it weren't for the refugees coming into the City from the countryside and further afield the City would seem almost empty.

Gripping the papers in his hand, Conner then heads towards the stonecarver's. Hopefully there'll be enough space on the monument.

+++++

Shadow and Thar head off to the Catacombs together. After, of course, explaining what the Catacombs are to the rather naive druid, Ash.

+++++

Everyone looked a little worried when Ash announced his plans to explore the City. Not that he wanted to go to the Druid Quarter but rather that they felt he should have a chaperone or guide in the other parts of the City.

Ash
Monday June 19th, 2006 10:15:26 PM

Ash senses some concern about his plans, which confuses him. "Is there some mystery to this City that I should know of? I sense concern from you. Yet, I am confident that I should be fine. I have enough gold to help those who may need it, and if I decide to make any purchases.

Running his fingers through Shelya's coat, he further explains "Furthermore, I have my friend Shelya here if I need protecting from bandits."

"So...is there something more I should know?"

Edmund
Tuesday June 20th, 2006 3:27:55 AM

Hard at work on his studies, Edmund practically blinks out of existence. Seldom coming out of the room, seldom eating, seldom sleeping, he nevertheless is learning.

Whilst scribing and studying, the only other thing on Edmund's mind is the diversification of his memorised spells. He resolves to spend less time repeatedly memorising the same spells and more time memorising a large number of different spells. This weighty decision made, he has nothing else to do but concentrate on his studies.

If anyone were to walk in on him, they would probably be surprised at the little ink spots on his face and hands, thrown up by the quill. The desk in the room is a mess, with papers everywhere. Only Edmund's own spellbook is in good order, clean and practically new in its appearance. If asked, Edmund would surely say something to the effect of, "Cleanliness is next to Godliness, dontcha know."

Arm
Tuesday June 20th, 2006 5:58:26 AM

Arm steps over to Ash and patiently explains the goings-on since the Awakening and their effect on the elven population in the City, "You must have had a difficult time in the wild as well, but it wasn't that much better here in the city...out of control growth of plants, giant wolves, flooding....it was not a pleasant sight. Even worse, the majority of the population blame the elves for causing it, so we're not exactly the 'preferred race' at the moment. Wherever you should go, take care.".

Conner
Tuesday June 20th, 2006 7:48:49 AM

The fighter solemnly looks over the list, barely hearing the words of the clerk. He hands over the silver pieces and leaves with a quick glance backwards. "Thanks" he acknowledges the help of the clerk.

Once out in the street, the fighter retrieves his list of guardsman who were lost and scans the list for their names, reconciling the two as he makes his way to Purse Street and the shop of Torkelson the dwarf.

As he walks he thinks about Mira's suggestions. "Well...uhh...a bit formal" he finally replies to her. "I was thinking of something shorter that talks to the memory of Amy and the others...maybe a poem, or just a sentence...you know...something like...May we always remember those of all races lost in the trade quarter, or Remember those who lost their lives and live your own in their memory. For those who died in the Fae King's Uprising.

Thar ail Baerer
Tuesday June 20th, 2006 10:53:33 AM

Thar heads to the temple that he worked for and meets with one of the head priests. After giving a donation to the temple (1 gp), he heads to the narthex and when a high priest eventually appears, his plan is to ask them about the Lady's holdings, background, possible cronies, etc.

Shadow
Tuesday June 20th, 2006 11:01:33 AM

Shadow will show Thar the Catacombs do his transaction and then head to the Guild. (as stated earlier)

Kadaz
Tuesday June 20th, 2006 5:04:21 PM

Back at their home, Kadaz hands out the money and remaining items. He then watches as everyone scatters to take care of their own needs. He wishes Arm good luck with city bureaucracy.

Kadaz then takes off for the Catacombs again, this time to take care of his own business. As he walks he thinks of Mira and Arm acting funny around each other. "Hope they're not fighting" he mutters under his breath.

Mira
Tuesday June 20th, 2006 6:24:50 PM

Mira hangs out at the apartment as her friends come and go. She unpacks and repacks her adventuring pack, checks out her gear, and takes inventory of her scrolls and spell components. She does a little scribbling of her own. Mostly, it is a shopping list for the Catacombs.

When Edmund emerges from his room, she gestures him over, to the big table in the common room. "I'm thinking of trading in some scrolls in my possession, but before I do that, I wanted to know if you would be interested in them? You know, to study from, or use?" she says. The mage continues, "if you're going to, um, stick around, that is."

Mira flexes her fingers, then opens up her scroll case, "I've learned to spontaneously cast some of these spells, and no longer require scrolls," she continues, adding, "and some are duplicates."

(OOC: If Edmund is willing, Mira will give him the following scrolls: Shield x2, Invisibility x 2, Featherfall x 2. Let me know what Edmund decides so that I can adjust Mira's char. sheet!)

Ash (part II)
Tuesday June 20th, 2006 7:22:58 PM

Ash patiently explains to Arm that he recognizes this reality, but doesn't understand his attitude. Ash notes that nobody else seems so concerned about their safety that they fear to travel. He asks if Arm senses some weakness in him, that he feels that Ash requires special protection? If so, Ash explains, he will strive to eradicate it.

Walking About Town (DM JohnP)
Tuesday June 20th, 2006 10:38:57 PM

Before everyone scatters to the eighteen quarters of Plateau City, Arm and Ash have a discussion about the current situation in the city. Ash intends to take the same precautions in the City that he would while travelling in the wilderness.

Ash works his way across the City towards the Druid Quarter. It's actually not that far across the city but Ash does have to cross a rather disreputable looking area. Fortunately, there aren't a lot of people on the street at this hour. He crosses an open square surrounding a large building and sees an urban parkland on the other side of a wall. After crossing a bridge, he can see more of the area. A network of paths leads through dense forest - thicker than should be within the City walls - to more open areas. He can glimpse the waters of a small lake in the centre of the area. At this hour, he sees a few other beings within the parkland. Some are dressed like him and seem to be communing with Nature while others are performing some kind of ritual exercise. Ash feels that he can safely wander where he likes within the confines of the Quarter. Somewhere within that area he will find what he seeks, if anything.

+++++

Conner walks into the stonecarver's workshop, looking for Thorkelson. The dwarf isn't visible, maybe somewhere inside the shop. One of the young humans who is assisting the masters comes over to Conner.

"What ya want?," he grunts. Then he squints his bloodshot eyes and looks at Conner.

"Uhh. Ya, you the one who wanted a monument. Ya got the names?"

When Conner indicates that he does, the man holds out his hand for it. After Conner passes it over, he squints at it.

"Heh! There's elves on this list, ya don't want to bother putting their names on the stone, do ya?"

+++++

Edmund, of course, is still locked in a room.

Everyone wonders if he will constantly remain in this studious mode or whether he will ever take any downtime.

+++++

Kadaz enjoyed whiling his time away in the Catacombs so much that he decides to go back.

He wonders whether to stop in at the armorer's on his way back and get the straps on his new armor adjusted so it fits just right. And maybe a polish, too. Maybe a good place to get some gossip if he doesn't stop into the Guard post to hear the outcome of the investigation of the mansion.

+++++

Mira offers some more scrolls to Edmund, since she doesn't really use them too much. Actually, she left them with a note beside the untouched plate of food outside his door so she doesn't know his reaction.

Then she heads off to do some shopping.

+++++

Shadow has gone off already to do his shopping. He shows Thar where the nearest outlet is and then makes his own transaction.

When he pokes his head into the Guild den, he joins the crowd inside. Whatever conversation there was died as soon as he entered. Everyone looks at him. And a pair of the younger ones lean their heads together and whisper something. After a short period, the Daymaster pokes his head out of his office and motions towards Shadow.

When Shadow enters, the Daymaster gestures towards a chair.

"Pull that one over. Sit down and take it easy."

The Daymaster settles himself behind the desk and looks across at Shadow. He simply stares at Shadow for a minute or so before speaking.

"So."

"Found yourself quite the little den of corruption in Wealthy Quarter, didn't you and your friends."

"And we're involved, aren't we. Not just the Guild, but my little section of it here. Those three doofuses couldn't mind their own business or obey the Guild rule. Look where it got them."

"The Guard nicked Geordie. He's alive, at least. Not talking, either, at least to the Guard."

"It's embarassing, rather. That this upstart cult sucked in three of our members. And potentially dangerous, too, but that's probably under control."

"We - the Guild, that is - want this shut down. Can you and your friends help us with this?"

+++++

Thar goes shopping and then to his temple. After a period of reflection and prayer, he requests an audience with the high priest. After a period of waiting, he is shown into an office.

"Was it you who helped with that with the Chalice cult? We'll do what we can, however little that is. Why don't you come back in a couple days."

"Really, you might be better off talking to the Registrar's Office. Or maybe one of her husband's competitors or business partners."

Arm
Wednesday June 21st, 2006 6:13:32 AM

Arm smiles at Ash and says, "I have no doubts as to your strength, my friend. My only concern is that you keep an eye open...that is all.".

As Mira leaves for the Catacombs, Arm tags along as well, intending to possibly pick up a new set of armor. Laying an arm gently across her shoulders, he says, "I hope I didn't upset you the other evening, my dear, as that certainly was not my intent. If you need time by yourself, I'll understand.".

Thar ail Baerer

After his meeting with the high priest, Thar thanks him for his time and goes over the the Registrar's Office. Before he leaves, he asks him "Are you referring to the town's tax registrar (for businesses) or a permit registrar? Also, thank you for the information and I'll be back in a few days to chat with you again and we can share any new information we've received."

Shadow
Wednesday June 21st, 2006 10:17:22 AM

Shadow grows nervous when he enters the Guild hall and the conversations die down. He looks around and notices that everyone is looking at him. Finally, the Daymaster calls him in and offers him a seat 'very unusual' Shadow thinks to himself, but takes the seat. He listens to the Daymaster and finally responds, "I think we can continue to work on it, but have kinda lost our lead on the cult right now. Unless you have more information than what we know already. I will also need to know if there is going to be some financial help with this endeavor." Shadow slides that last one in there to feel out the willingness of the Guilds help.

Kadaz
Wednesday June 21st, 2006 12:09:48 PM

Kadaz spends some leisurely time in the Catacombs, watching the adventurers bring in very, very magical items and exchange them for even more magic. On the way back he dawdles, stopping at an armorer to have his plate mail adjusted.

And then, to keep up on information, he stops by a pastry shop. He buys a box of sweets to share and then goes to the guard house to follow up with Sergeant Tomin on what finally happened in Lady Illona's house.

Edmund
Wednesday June 21st, 2006 3:52:14 PM

Still ensconced in the privacy of his room, Edmund's studies continue unabated.

A note left on a torn corner of paper, handwritten in a blocky manuscript, is left behind with two of the scrolls [Shield] Mira left for him.

Mira,
I know the Shield spell already, but appreciate your offering these to me. I will keep the Feather Fall scrolls, in case I should ever need them.
The Invisibility spell is very useful, and I will try to copy it into my spellbook when I have some more time and money.
Thank you very much!
+Edmund

Mira
Wednesday June 21st, 2006 8:30:54 PM

Mira collects the note and the scrolls. She smiles and nods her head as she reads Edmund's note. With the redundant scrolls now back in the case, she heads off for the Catacombs.

"I don't really want to talk about Evan," Mira says to Arm. Her face is solemn, but her expression is not stern. With a shrug of her shoulders, and a sigh, she continues, "he always seemed to fancy his horse more than me, anyway!" Mira laughs, to show the bard there are no hard feelings. She clasps his hand in hers, palm to palm, and walks at his side to the famous store.

Ash
Wednesday June 21st, 2006 9:06:58 PM

Ash seeks out a nice glade in which to meditate. After an hour of meditation, he then decides to speak with an elder regarding obtaining a tatoo to mark his elevation.

More Time About Town (DM JohnP)
Wednesday June 21st, 2006 10:23:46 PM

Arm finishes his discussion with Ash and walks with Mira to the Catacombs. It's shaping up to be a nice day from where he stands.

+++++

Ash completes some meditations and sends Shelya off to run. He figures that he will encounter an elder somewhere in this park, either here under the trees or in the open areas. Maybe even close to the water.

He wanders aimlessly, trusting Nature to guide his path. Passing by a patch of blackberries, he sees an elderly half-elven woman picking and carefully examining each one, her long grey hair blowing in the gentle breeze. As Ash approaches her, he sees that the woman is sky-clad and that a lynx or similar cat is curled by her feet.

"What do you seek, young one?"

When Ash mentions inking his body to mark his rank, the woman nods.

"Some choose to do that. Some do not. Simply ensure that the mark is suitable since they cannot be easily removed or changed."

+++++

Edmund pens a polite reply to Mira, then returns to his studies.

Eventually he has to come out of that room.

+++++

Kadaz completes his transaction in the Catacombs, nodding to Mira and Arm as they head in. He buys a bag of sticky buns from a stall and heads to the Guard Post.

When he looks into the Post, the Guards smile back at him. The smiles are even wider when they see the pastries.

"Come in! Come in!"

Kadaz is ushered to a table and surrounded by the Guards who are in the post. Congratulations and excited gossip flows between the people. During the conversation, Kadaz learns a few things about what happened at the mansion after the party left.

One of the rookies mentioned that the wizards and clerics who were brought in spent a lot of time examining the patterns marked on the floors. Almost as much time was spent on the altar. All sorts of rumours are flying about, none that Kadaz puts much faith in.

Suddenly the conversation hushes. When Kadaz looks towards the door, he sees Sergeant Tomin standing there. The sergeant simply stares and the Guards hurriedly go back to their work. Once Kadaz is sitting by himself, Tomin jerks his head towards his office and motions for Kadaz to follow.

Tomin opens his office door and moves to sit at his desk. When Kadaz enters, he motions to close the door and then towards a chair.

"Too much to ask that you kept one of those buns for me?"

"Interesting folks you meet, Kadaz. You poked your fingers into a very smelly pile of .... you know. People in all the Quarters are upset over this."

"You probably heard a bunch of rubbish out there. Before you ask, let me set some things straight."

"I don't know the specifics of what the clerics or wizards found, but they weren't too happy. One thing that I do know is that the magic types were convinced that the two thieves were killed and turned into zombies a day or more before. Before they were seen at the Temple of Flower. Don't ask me what that means, that sort of question is for the Constables."

"And the altar was used for sacrifices as you probably guessed. So now every single person seen going into or out of that place is being tracked down. We should, eventually, find out where Ilonia is hiding."

"I should tell you to mind your own business. But this bunch might come for you and your friends. No telling, if they're willing to kill people."

"Any questions?"

+++++

Mira discusses her feelings about the departed Evan with Arm as they walk towards the Catacombs. Would she feel any different if the ranger hadn't simply left?

+++++

The Daymaster looks up when Shadow inquires about financial assistance. Then he smiles.

"Well, you do have to look out for yourself first. Would a waiver of Guild fees be enough incentive? For a year?"

+++++

Thar moves from Outcast Quarter where the temple of his faith is located towards the center of the City. One the way, he muses about what might motivate someone to become involved with a death cult.

He finally arrives at the central City Registrar and joins the line of people waiting for service from the bored clerks. Finally he reaches the front of the line and moves to a clerk. He phrases his request as best he can and watches while the woman scribes the information on an official looking form. Then he has to wait patiently while the woman goes into the back of the office.

Thar is looking about when he senses that someone is watching him. He looks towards where the woman went and sees her speaking with an elderly gnome. When the gnome sees Thar looking, he walks towards the counter. When he gets close, he slides a stool towards it and climbs up to speak to Thar. For a gnome, he speaks rather slowly and clearly.

"Sorry. Those records are sealed at the request of the Constables. Criminal investigation supposedly. Come back later when we can help you again. Thank you for your service."

Then the gnome hops down and walks off.

Conner [AC=20, HP=52]  d20+9=21 d20+9=27
Wednesday June 21st, 2006 10:33:02 PM

If the young man notices the darkening hue of the tattoo that runs across Conner's temple he likely doesn't understand it's significance, at least not right away.

A single massive hand streaks out and grabs the young man by the throat [Hit AC=21, Grapple=27]. Conner squeezes just hard enough for the young man to understand the power that remains untested in that muscular arm. There is no cheerfulness in the fighters demeanor.

Only inches from the man's face, Conner spits out his orders. "You'll put every last name on that monument, and you'll take extra care with the elven names, because if even one is misspelled, I'll be adding your name to the list. Am I understood?" Conner waits for a sign of acknowledgement before releasing the biggoted human. "Now point me to Thurl and be quick about it, I've little time for fools who can only find the fault in others."

Arm
Thursday June 22nd, 2006 5:56:16 AM

Arm smiles broadly at Mira as he grips her hand a bit tighter, then walks with her to the Catacombs, his step a bit lighter than it was this morning, "I need to find a flower stall on our return trip," he thinks to himself.

DM Addendum (DM JohnP)
Thursday June 22nd, 2006 7:45:31 AM

As Conner tosses the human to the ground, he sees the dwarf coming from the shop into the workyard. Thurl's boots riase little clouds of dust as he stomps across the yard until he stands over the fallen worker.

"Don't bother saying anything. I heard it all."

Then Thurl roots through his pouch and pulls out a number of gold coins that he tosses to the ground.

"Here's your wages for the week. Get your lazy butt out of my yard. Don't show your face around here again, or I'll knock you down myself."

The other workers are standing around watching this. The human scrabbles through the dust for the coins and then stands, brushing the dust from his clothes. He simply looks at Thurl and Conner before walking away, not rurning his back.

The other workers had watched this exchange, not saying anything. Once the human leaves, a buzz of conversation comes from the yard. Thurl's actions were apparently popular with his workers.

The dwarf then scowls up at Conner.

"Sorry. Stupid kid has been listening to them Defense League types, I guess. Ya got the list? Tell ya what, I'll engrave the names myself. You got something you want added to the marker?"

Hearing that the records are sealed, Thar leaves the room, and very surripticously (not sure if I spelled that right...) walks back to the group's apartment, all the time subtly watching for someone following him.

Spot = 29

Once back at the apartment, he waits for any of the group to reappear (x/c for Edmund, since he is in study) and comments on the gnome's comments.

Adding, he says "I'm not sure how human's handle a lot of these things and would appreciate anyone's help in dealing with the Constable to unseal those records somehow, or at least have someone sneak in and get a copy of them for us."

Hesitantly, he says "Group, we're going to need to start watching our backs closely and traveling in pairs, as I think someone's been following me closely and our investigations will likely gather some unwanted attention."

Shadow
Thursday June 22nd, 2006 9:49:46 AM

Shadow starts thinking about how much that would be, and is interested. He wonders what the others will think, but continues, "I will go back and discuss this with my companions, but I think it will be in all of our best interest to take care of this." With that he excuses himself out of the Daymaster's 'office' and will head back to the apartment.

Back at the apartment when everyone returns he will let them know that 'Guild' is wanting the group to take care of this problem we uncovered.

Edmund
Thursday June 22nd, 2006 2:22:24 PM

As time ticks by, a reasonable person might begin to wonder if they would ever see Edmund again. Wrapped-up in his studies, he often forgets to eat or sleep.

The works is progressing satisfactorily, however. Finding the job time-consuming but relatively easy, Edmund carries on in his four-day task of studying and writing.

Soon it will be done and the adventures will begin!

Kadaz
Thursday June 22nd, 2006 5:12:21 PM

Kadaz listens to Sergeant Tomlin relay what he knows. "Strange times indeed with a death cult operating out of that neighborhood. The rich really are different from you and me. If I wanted to follow up on the investigation could you suggest a Constable who might be friendlier than others?

"And thank you very much for the warning, we'll be on guard. If we discover anything useful I'll pass it along to you. And if there's an opportunity when I and my friends can be of assistance let us know. We have no patience with those trying to take out their frustrations on elves much less raising undead here in the city.

"And sorry about the buns, the boys were hungrier than I expected."

Kadaz takes his leave and walks back to the bakery. He orders another box of pastries and tips a delivery boy to deliver it to the sergeant. "There, that'll keep him for a while" he says.

All in all, being kicked out of the guard has worked out well. Kadaz turns towards home where his new family awaits, humming some tuneless ditty under his breath. Birdie walks along beside Kadaz, joining in the good mood.

Conner
Thursday June 22nd, 2006 10:59:22 PM

Conner apologizes to Thurl for the rough treatment of his former employee. "I should have held myself in check, but I have grown tired of this defence league and their rantings".

When Thurl asks about a verse, the fighter pulls a second piece of paper from his pocket. The writing is coarse, as if written by an untrained and heavy hand, the ink smudged in places where a sleeve ran against it. "I'd like this somewhere near the top please."

They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
we will remember them.

For all those who perished during the awakening of the Fae King.

Ash
Thursday June 22nd, 2006 11:19:17 PM

Ash considers her advice and proceeds to ask her the location of a reputable artist of the ancient markings of the traditions.

Mira
Thursday June 22nd, 2006 11:54:49 PM

Mira makes her purchases at the Catacombs. Exiting into the day-light, she squints up at the sun to gauge the time of day.

"If you think we've got time, how about exploring the city a bit?" she asks the bard. The sorcerer wonders how some of the other quarters had fared. In particular, how the area around her old home had been affected by the revolt of nature. "Umm, lets check out the Rogue Quarter" she says, breaking off eye contact. Though her friends know she is from the city, she never told them where she was raised. She wonders what her companion would think if he saw the hovel on Skull Street where she grew up.

Arm
Friday June 23rd, 2006 6:01:51 AM

Leaving the Catacombs with Mira, Arm smiles down at her when she makes her request, "Of course, my dear...I'll go ANYWHERE that you want to.". Taking her hand, they head off to the Rogue Quarter. While they walk, he wonders why she chose that particular area, "Guess I'll find out soon enough," he thinks.

Along the way, he stops at the nearest flower stand, and purchases the prettiest one available. Breaking off the excess stem, he places it through her hair just over her right ear, smiling at her the entire time.

News from Around Town (DM JohnP)
Friday June 23rd, 2006 7:23:57 AM

Arm completes his shopping trip and heads back to the apartment. However, he is distracted when Mira suggests a stroll through the City instead.

+++++

Ash nods his thanks to the elder druid and heads off in search of this "Catacombs" place that everyone was prattling on about. Confusing to him it is. Not say what people mean. To Ash, catacombs are caves where bones are interred. Why not call this place where goods are bought and sold "Shop" or "Mall"?

+++++

Conner finishes talking to Thurl Torkelson about the monument. The dwarf cocks his head and silently counts as he runs a scarred finger down the list of names. Then he does a quick tally on his fingers after he reaches the end.

"Two weeks. One, maybe a bit more, to get the engraving done right. Then seal and polish the stone. That'll give you time to figure out where you want to set it up."

+++++

Edmund continues his studies. He hears a couple people returning to the apartment and moving about in the central room. Not enough to disturb his concentration, though. But he is getting near to the end of his work.

+++++

Kadaz finishes his impromptu meeting with Sergeant Tomin. When Kadaz asks about the Constables, Tomin shrugs.

"All the same to me. The two who usually work around here are Gormley and Rabbitsfoot. Gormley is a half-elf, I think, and Rabbitsfoot is a halfling. You might see them around in the market. If they want you too, of course."

Kadaz then heads back to the apartment, seeing that Arm has beat him back.

+++++

Mira concludes her business at the Catacombs. She steps out into the bright sun from the shop and peers up and down the street. A good day for a walk. She cocks her head at Arm and the bard follows along as she strolls towards Rogue Quarter.

Yes, things are definitely a bit rougher in this Quarter. Of course, at this time of day it's pretty quiet on the streets.

She and Arm have to step aside for an unusual carvan leaving from one of the warehouses close to the River. It looks like, to their eyes, a band of experienced adventurers shepherding a group of children someplace.

+++++

Shadow is musing over the offer from the Daymaster as he strolls back to the apartment. He joins Arm and Kadaz there.

+++++

Thar joins the others in the apartment after doing his business at the Catacombs.

The three of them - Kadaz, Shadow and Thar - sit down and share what they have learned so far. Obviously the authorities are still investigating. Which is good and bad, since it both means that the threat is taken seriously but it also means that Ilonia is still at large. The bit that Kadaz relates about the two thieves being dead before the murder of Tredegar is puzzling. Maybe this priest that Thar knows can relate some information in a couple days.

Thar ail Baerer

After the discussion, Thar relaxes and says "So what should we do to get the Registrar's records, as that can give us a good lead into the Lady's holdings. I can't get them, since they're on hold, but maybe you two have contacts that can get us records?"

He says "Well, in a few days I'll be able to get more from my priest, but for now, I don't have a lot to work on, unless we're going to do something to get the records."

Conner
Friday June 23rd, 2006 10:25:59 PM

"Thanks" the fighter nods in acknowledgement. I'll be back in two weeks...If I'm not, try to have it erected in the Open Palm Market down by the river."

Conner leaves the craftsman and heads back to the apartments to see what has become of his companions.

Kadaz
Saturday June 24th, 2006 10:57:29 AM

Kadaz spends time relaxing with those who've returned home and pondering over what can be done. "Illona must have had some craftsmen make that alter in her home, and priests to consecrate it to evil. So there's a web that she's just a part of. We must take the warnings we received seriously. I propose no one goes out alone and we keep watch at night until this is settled.

"I was given the names of 2 constables, Gormley and Rabbitsfoot, a half-elf and halfling. I don't see them having any sympathy at all for Illonia or the League. Maybe we can track them down and offer our service while waiting for Thar's cleric to turn up."

While talking Kadaz is going over all of his gear doing maintenance. He shines all armor, sharpens all edges, and oiling all leather. Once done, he suggests a visit to the baths, then supper at Sampsons.

Shadow
Sunday June 25th, 2006 6:50:49 PM

Shadow listens to his companions suggestions and then says, "Yes, we should do just that, but I do think we should talk to them tonight. NO matter how much I would like to wait till tomorrow it should be done soon."

Edmund
Monday June 26th, 2006 12:13:06 AM

After days of work, Edmund finally comes out of his room. He's clearly had a bath, and the room is in order again.

Glancing about, he heads into the common room to look for one of the other party members, eager for an update on what has been going on since he began working on the spellbook.

(OOC: I think it has been four days, yes? If not, Edmund will go back to work.)

Mira watches as the caravan of orphans moves through the winding streets of the Rogue Quarter. (Spot=12, Listen=15) She then looks up to the face of the half-elf.

"Um, lets go check out the Temple of Ward" she says, adding quickly, "and that area." As they proceed along Skull Street she casts covert glances in the direction of the small house standing alonr just below Finger Road.

"You know, there once was a temple to Gargul, here, but it has been taken over by the acolytes of Marteaus." Mira shivers, and moves a little closer to the bard. "Lets go home, Arm."

Shadow will try not to pick his nose waiting for the rest of the group to return to the apartment.

Back at the Apartment (DM JohnP)
Monday June 26th, 2006 10:08:50 PM

Eventually everyone trickles back into the apartment. Even Ash who is sporting a new tattoo. Arm and Mira come in together after taking a walk through the neighbouring Rogue Quarter. Conner comes in from the stonecarver's yard.

Edmund has come out from his room, covered in ink stains from his scribing.

Everyone shares what they've learned during the trips around. Maybe tracking down these Constables would be worthwhile if they can be found in Open Palm Market. Or some information about Lady Ilonia's holdings might be found. Maybe the Constables can help with the Registrar's records or perhaps someone from her husband's firm can be found who might talk. Or maybe a rival of her husband's.

After taking time for a meal and refreshment, the party tries to decide how to proceed.

Edmund
Monday June 26th, 2006 10:43:24 PM

Edmund scratches his head after listening to everyone explain what they have learned. He really has nothing to add, having been closeted away for the entire time. So, he decides to make a suggetion, instead.

"Well, I mean, I say, she can't just be allowed to get away, right? She's famous too, has to be with a title and what, so I expect there are plenty of people who know what has become of her. It's all about gathering information from the right people--and you can guess the right people are the people like Ilonia herself. Have you tried talking to the nobles and such? She had to have friends, or at least acquaintences, with whom she was familiar."

Edmund pauses a moment before continuing, considering he might have a chance to prove himself if they have yet to talk to the nobles.

"You know, my father and brother were politicians back in my home town. I'm certain I could be of use if you need to talk to some of the local government, diplomats, or nobles. It's in my blood, dontcha know!"

All the discussion about Lady Ilonia's holdings and business dealings means very little to Edmund who, in general, seems incapable of appreciating the importance and relevance of business or financial matters. He shakes his head in confusion as they talk about these things.

"Chase her down and catch her, and worry about the money and property later, if you ask me. I'm fierce. I could probably manage her myself. With me around, you can't possibly fail!"

Ash

Ash is standing in the catacombs, looking lost.

Mira  d20+2=19
Tuesday June 27th, 2006 12:20:19 AM

Mira listens with interest to what Kadaz, Shadow, and Thar have to say about the cult. She frowns a little when Edmund starts to talk about hob-nobbing with the nobility. Having been abandoned as an infant, and raised by a city river sweeper, she has no connections with the wealthy or the famous. The sorcerer feels the wizard's unintentional rub most acutely.

The green eyed woman removes the bud tucked in her hair, and nervously starts to pluck the petals. "Maybe Conner and I can try the City Registrar. We've been there before," she volunteers, "or whats-his-name...deMontMorency's business friends."

Mira stops picking at the flower, and slowly raises her eyes to meet those of the bard. Just as slowly, she asks, "what exactly did you feel, Arm, when you sipped from the Chalice?" The sorcerer will watch the bard carefully as he formulates his answer.(Sense Motive=19)

Conner

"That said, I'll go with Kadaz and Shadow, if it will help. In a day or so, we should have more information from my church and I can get that after we've done some more investigating."

Arm
Tuesday June 27th, 2006 11:58:24 AM

Arm holds Mira tightly as he notices her obvious distress, "Hopefully someday she'll tell me what troubles her so," he thinks.

When she questions him, Arm tells her of his vision when he drank from the cup, the thoughts of it still chilling him to the bone.

Kadaz
Tuesday June 27th, 2006 5:13:52 PM

Kadaz tries to summarize what's been said. "OK, it's a plan. Tomorrow we'll split into two groups. Mira's group will go to the Registrar for research. And I'll head off to search out these two Constables. It sounds like Arm and Conner will go with Mira, the rest with me." Kadaz looks over at Edmund, not sure if the wizard will be an asset in this search.

"And Thar, it's only the stupid people who don't like elves. One since of the contables is supposed to be half-elf I'm guessing he won't have any problem talking with you."

"Remember - we've been warned about retribution so we shouldn't split into smaller groups. And no one is to go out alone."

"But for now, how about Sampson's? I'm up for a good meal."
