The Battle at the Bridge

Battle Round 9: Trolls 'n Elves... ... [DM Inge]
Friday June 23rd, 2006 9:07:28 AM

OlynHighlight to display spoiler: { In the far of distance you can see the bridge again... you think you just saw something cat like jump over the canyon! That could be your friends!!
}

Vayhwyt now goes berserk! She literally JUMPS over a seemingly bottomless canyon! Razor sharp spikes can be seen a few hundred feet below... falling into that canyon Vayhwyt now realises is deadly! But convinced she can jump far enough and without thinking she jumps over it...

The trolls hesitate pummeling the Elf as they see the Liontaur leaping over the canyon and look quite surprised! Vauhwyt just makes it far enough but can't go any futher.

The wooden bridge is attached to the sides by a set of ropes. It seems worn down, but most likely you can cross it one by one...

Berlon's short legs carry him as fast as he can... Dietrich and Rose stay close to him -- Rose takes a short detour picking up her lovely bow - and together they run through the forest. At Berlon's rate they'll need at least 4 turns to catch up with Vauhwyt!!!

Vorelle takes another shot at the Boar skull making sure her friends can escape. The skulls stop this pursuit. For some odd reason they are reluctant to leave their territory.

Steadily Jack too runs towards the bridge realising Theodore might be in trouble.

However the wizard is invisible and none of you can actually see him! Vauhwyt nearly runs him over!

The trolls have seen Vauhwyt but not the rest of the group. They descide to finish the Elf first and take care of the cat later.

Several damaging blows are delivered to the staggering elf... blood gushes from several wounds and it is clear he can't take this much longer anymore.

Those who exit from the forest make a spot check DC18.

Vauhwyt (AC20 HP23 of 52) fatigued and Mookie (AC17 HP12 of 26) (Unseen Servant, Expeditious Retreat)  d100=22 d20+3=9
Friday June 23rd, 2006 10:04:15 AM

Vauhwyt whispers to the Unseen Servant and Mookie what she wants them to do (free action). She takes a five-foot step north to Z-AA-17. Then she takes out a scroll of Grease (move action) and reads it (standard action) (22% spell failure is a-ok). She places the Grease at 11-12-S-T.

Mookie and the Unseen Servant move to Y-13. Using his beak and the Unseen Servant's Unseen Fingers, Mookie begins to Disable the Bridge. He tries to weaken the rope so that it will give way if anything BIG, like a troll, steps onto it (for example, into square S11 or S12). Mookie's Disable Device skill check (5 ranks, -2 Int) is a 9. Oh well ... the bird's beak is not up to the task. if there is time, Vauhwyt will come up and do the job right next round.

(rolled 7 times, shouldve stopped after 4, i hate lag)
26 points of healing done

Next round I will ask the Griffon to land, setting the elf on safe ground, then send it to battle the trolls with Vauhwyt.

Dietrich is quite happy they´ve escaped the ¨%$#¨% skulls. He continues running full speed now, trough the forest. The knight can hear the sounds of a fight and imagines the Huntsman minions have arrived.

When he leaves the forest: spot 17

Dietrich still has the great-sword at hands, and is ready to use it.

Vorelle [AC 17; HP 29/57]

Theodore & Macaw HP 21/26 AC 16 (mage armor)
Sunday June 25th, 2006 4:00:14 PM

An invisible Theodore retrieves his wand of burning hands from his haversack. Pointing the wand in the general direction of the trolls, he lets a cone of fire blast forth, singeing the grass beneath him.

Although the blast isn't anywhere near the trolls, Theodore is hoping the trolls will notice a blast of fire coming from nowhere and think twice about their situation.

Berlon 6/39 AC 20 - Silence 5m 12s  d8+5=10
Sunday June 25th, 2006 6:23:22 PM

Berlon continues to move as quickly as he can towards the bridge. Still not wanting to give up his silence spell, he takes the container he retrieved and opens it. He takes a large handful of the waxy contents and smears it over the worst of his wounds. He then puts the container back into his cloak...

Keoghtom's Ointment heals 10 hp.

OlynHighlight to display spoiler: {
Ooc: you are not there yet. Thursday June 22nd, I said it would take 3 turns at full speed to reach the bridge. On Friday June 23rd I said you saw the bridge from a very far distance and you think you saw something jumping over the canyon...

Olyn flies closer with the Hippigriff and is now 200ft away from the bridge. Down there you think you spot some of your friends... suddenly a blaze of fire out of nothing... 2 large monsters bashing on some elf... looks like your basic average everyday encounter in the lives of Dirt City Hero's
}

Vauhwyt crossed the canyon in one fantastic jump and now begins to prepare the bridge... first a greasy spot at the beginning of the bridge -- excellent for making enemies slip and fall into the deep canyon with spikes at the bottom ... enemies and friends that is... Mookie flies away from Vauhwyt and begins to disable the bridge! Using his beak Mookie bites at the ropes hoping she will not weaken the ropes too much nor too little... just suited for making it break when trolls try to cross the canyon...

Rose enters the frenzy and fires an arrow at Troll 1

(Troll 1 takes 5Hp -- this goes on top of the damage allready done by the elf)

Jack runs towards the Trolls. (OOC normally a character can not run and attack on the same turn, but I made the same mistake when my skulls were chasing. Therefore Jack is allowed this Run-hit attack)

(Troll 1 takes 10Hp! -- Crit succesfull)

The Troll however has a reach of 10ft and takes an Attack of Opportunity at the human warrior as he closes to 5ft!

Troll 1 claw hits AC26 for 8Hp!

(Jack takes 8Hp)

Dietrich sees the skulls are not chasing so now he leaves slow Berlon and runs at full speed towards the bridge. The moment he leaves the silent sphere he hears the sound of combat and assumes the Huntsman has arrived! He continues running untill he reaches the edge of the forest and is able to witness the frenzy ahead of him...

Vorelle too runs at full speed trying to catch up with her friends,..

Berlon refuses to give up and as fast as he can he tries to catch up with his friends. Still inder the protection of his silence spell he cures himself from the most serious wounds...

Suddenly out of nowhere a cone of fire erupts distracting the Trolls. It sure is weird to see the flames without finding it's source!! Under the protection of his invisibility spell Theodore finds it amusing to see the Trolls AND his friends react...

Spot check DC12 Highlight to display spoiler: { You see a flying creature closing in on you fast!}

Spot check DC14 Highlight to display spoiler: { It looks like a Hippogriff ... someone is sitting on top of it! }

Spot check DC16 Highlight to display spoiler: { It's Olyn! He's about 200ft away and closing in rapidly!!}

Troll 2 batters the Elf some more making a full attack! The Elf takes another 12Hp... now heavily bleading the Elf staggers... clearly he's near death!

But he makes another mighty swing with his greatsword cleaving Troll 2... the Troll howls in pain and sinks to his knees... then it collapses making the ground shudder. The Elf turns around and when he sees Troll 1 being attacked by someone else he too falls to his knees... exhausted and barely alive... Help could not have come any later for he would have died for sure!

Troll 1 turns around to face Mad Jack and takes a full attack at the foolish warrior!

Troll 1 Claw 1 hits AC26 for 7Hp
Troll 1 Claw 2 hits AC20 for 9Hp
Troll 1 Bite hits AC6 -- miss

(Jack takes 16HP and drops to -6HP!!!)

The powerful Troll's Claws brutally strike Jack... the pain is devastating and Jack succombs to his wounds... but the Troll's claws latch onto Jack's body and tear his flesh! ... blood flows wildly drenching the troll in blood... Like a rag doll Jack's remains fall to the ground accompnied by the mad growling of the Troll...

Troll 1 hits with both claws and thanks to the Special Attack Rend he deals an extra 20Hp!!

Jack dies...

Dietrich; AC 19, HP 38/60  d20+7=26 d8+5=11
Tuesday June 27th, 2006 8:26:31 AM

Dietrich sees Jack being killed and is shocked. The guy was a budy, even if they didn´t know each other that well.

The pragmatic warrior reevaluates his tactics and puts the sword back in the sheath (fast-drwa free action), takes the long-bow and shoots:
hits ac 26, damage 11, crit 33, magical

He shouts: "Concentrate fire at the ¨%$¨%$ Troll!"

Vauhwyt (AC20 HP23 of 52) fatigued and Mookie (AC17 HP12 of 26) (Unseen Servant, Expeditious Retreat)
Tuesday June 27th, 2006 8:49:54 AM

[OOC: notes from last round: (1) Disable Device is at least a full round action. Last round Mookie could not have moved AND tried to Disable the bridge. So let us say that Mookie's disable attempt is happening this round, if that is okay. (2) Vauhwyt started this encounter at the skulls with her spear in hand. Then she drew her hammer, so she had both hands full. Last round she got out a scroll and read it -- but she needed a hand free to do that. So let us say that she dropped her hammer last round. After she cast the spell she dropped the remains of the scroll. Hope that is okay. (3) Foolish Vauhwyt! She forgot that the Grease spell cast from a scroll has a duration of only a single round! Her Grease spell is gone!]

Mookie and the Unseen Servant try to disable the bridge (last round's action) and fail.

Vauhywt moves to 13-Y-Z (move action). She gets out her masterwork thieves tools (move action). Next round she will try to disable the bridge.

Her plan is to disable it so that two medium creatures or one large creature stepping on it will cause the rope on this side to break. That will not destroy the bridge, but one side will tilt down. If she can manage to put Grease on the bridge at the right time, Vauhwyt hopes, any creature in the Grease spell will surely slip into the canyon, with no chance of getting across (no save in some situations, per the Grease spell description in the Player's Handbook.

After Mookie's disable attempt fails, he takes a five foot step onto Vauhwyt's shoulder.

Bag of Tricks: 4 charges used out of 10 for the week.

Spells: 5 first level spells out of 6 used for the day.
No 0-level spells used so far.

Jack falls ro his death with no thoughts. Deah is a part of life.

OOC Well i am sorry to the group. I got tired of sitting doing nothing, figured i had better fight. Wrong idea i guess.

I am told that i can get ressurected by the dm, at the end of the module, if someone carries my body back to Dirt City. That means someone has to carry my body. Since everyone is in flight for their lives, this would be stupid, and I really could not ask anyone to do it.

Its been fun guys. I really looked forward to playing each day. Take kare, and the rest of you stay safe.

Vorelle [AC 17; HP 29/57]  d20+11=17 d8+2=6
Tuesday June 27th, 2006 10:32:20 PM

Vorelle is shocked by what she sees, and curses herself for not getting there sooner. But she pushes those thoughs aside to concentrate on the task at hand.

Her arrows will do little against such a powerful foe, but her chances of harming it will be somewhat better if she is closer. Steeling herself, she moves toward the bridge and fires a single shot at the creature that killed Jack. It's not her best shot by any means.

[Move to J-10. Hit AC 17 for 6 damage.]

Battle Round 10: THEY ARE COMING!!!!... [DM Inge]  d20+9=27 d6+6=8
Wednesday June 28th, 2006 11:31:18 AM

There he is! Olyn's come back for you all!!
Riding a Celestial Hippogriff the cleric swoops down and grabs hold of the kneeling Elf. Shouting to hang on, the Elf does so... but his graps is weak. Luckily the Hippogriff holds on tight and once Olyn heals the Elf from some of his wounds he manages to hang on a little better.

"Thank you!" the Elf shouts from under the Hippogriffs wings.

Pain rips through everyone's body as they see their friend Jack's being ripped apart. Dietrich changes his battle plans and sheaths his sword. Instead he readies his longbow and takes an excellent shot at the Troll...

(Troll takes 11Hp)

He shouts: "Concentrate fire at the ¨%$¨%$ Troll!"

Berlon and Rose hesitate to charge the Troll and instead heal themselves some more -- after all going in head first against the Troll without better preparation is what killed their friend.

Vorelle however moves closer to the Troll and takes a single shot.

(Troll takes 6Hp)

The Troll growls at Vorelle!

Theodore makes another attempt to scare away the Troll with Cone of Fire, this time a bit closer to the Troll... Trolls have no fear of death and will launch themselves into combat without hesitation! Even when confronted with fire they try to get around the flames and attack... Looks like this troll is NOT going to run from Theodore's cunning idea!!

Vauhwyt, on the opposite side of the bridge readies herself to disable the bridge next round. A cunning plan, but her friends on the other side may need that bridge soon, and that Troll doesn't seem to go nowhere!!

The Cone of Fire is gone just as quick as it is summoned, but never the less, the Troll takes a short bow around it and attacks Vorelle! He has a reach of 10ft but instead the Troll moves at close range... the plan of a mad Troll to destroy puny human rangers?!?

Troll Claw hits AC27 for 8HP

(Vorelle takes 8HP)

"Thanks" to Berlon's silence spell those standing at the forest entrance remain deaf, but all others Highlight to display spoiler: { suddenly hear a lot of howling and growling... A LOT... and ... and ... RIDERS!!!...

THEY ARE COMING!!!!

At top speed they won't need long to get here!!!

having the Griff drop the Elf to the ground from about 3 feet, Olyn then has the Griff land and slides off. Then, hearing the incoming sound of riders, Olyn says to the Griff: render that bridge unusable. Tear it to pieces!

Then turns his attention back to the Elf, and hands him a bottle saying: drink this, Wardd shines his luck on you this day, (Looking at the remains of Mad Jack) but not him.

Dietrich, AC 19, HP 38/60  d4-2=2 d20+10=28 2d6(5+4)+12=21 d6=4

Dietrich swears when he sees that Vorelle too got at close combat with the Troll. He´s also happy the ELf could be saved, but Jack´s death has a far greater impact...

Not wanting to risk hitting Vorelle, the fighter puts the bow away, takes the sword again (fast-draw free) and charges the Troll on his flank (K12):

(warrd´s amullet gives +2 for this fight)

The knight gets +2 for flanking, -2 for charging (+2 damage), +2 Warrd´s magic and puts some extra power in the blow (powerattack -2 accuracy, +2 damage):
hits ac 28 (yeah!); damage 21 (2d6+8+2+2) + 4 sneak attack, total 25!, magical

If he sees his friends destroying the bridge, the only escape for the party-members at this side of the canyon, he shouts a vehement: "NOOOO!"

Assuming the skulls are still far away, Berlon drops his silence spell in a desperate gambit.

"Get across the bridge! We all need to get across then destroy the bridge! Someone get something from Jack! Any remains will do! Disengage! Let the hunt deal with this thing!"

Berlon runs to K8 with an eye on Jack' remains.

If the troll should engage him and Berlon gets an AoO, mace attack hits AC 13 for 10 dge.

Theodore & Macaw HP 21/26 AC 16 (mage armor, invisible)
Wednesday June 28th, 2006 9:10:25 PM

Theodore once again calls on his magic. Suddenly, a 15' green-skinned giant pushes out of the trees to the northwest of the bridge.

He lumbers forward and brandishes a two-handed sword in one hand. The giant points at the troll with his other hand and belows a challenge before moving after the smaller creature.

Since the troll has closed to melee range, Vorelle puts up her bow and steps to one side, flanking the troll with Dietrich. Quick as thought, her axes are in her hand. She attacks cautiously, concentrating more on making it harder for the troll to hit her. Perhaps because of her caution, her blow is weak and poorly placed.

[Put away longbow (move action), 5-foot step to K-9, draw axes (free action thanks to Quick Draw feat), attack defensively (standard action). Hit AC 16 for 3 damage.]

Vauhwyt (AC20 HP23 of 52) fatigued and Mookie (AC17 HP12 of 26) (Unseen Servant, Expeditious Retreat)   d20+3=10 d20+11=28
Wednesday June 28th, 2006 9:39:38 PM

Seeing the confusion, Vauwyt calls out, "I've got the bridge! Just come over one at a time and it will be safe!"

She shouts to Olyn, "Olyn, can your hippogriff carry out Jack's body? We have to take it with us!"

Then she turns her attention to the bridge. Tools in hand, she works on disabling it. When a large heavy creature -- or equivalent weight in medium creatures -- steps on the bridge, the rope will give way, hopefully tipping the target into the canyon. And if she can manage to Grease the bridge at the same time, she hopes her success will be assured!

As she works, Mookie looks over her shoulder. "A little more there, Boss. No! too much!" He is Aiding Another -- his roll of 10 is just what is needed to give Vauhwyt a +2. She also gets a +2 from her masterwork tools. Her own roll to disable the bridge is at +11, and she rolls a 28!

She also looks briefly UNDER the bridge. Inge, would it be possible to hide under there, maybe with a rope to hang onto, and hide unseen? For a liontaur? Then cast the Grease when she hears (or sees through cracks in the bridge) creatures step onto it?

Battle Round 10: Trolls Regenerate!!!... [DM Inge]  (Troll 1 AoO vs Dietrich: d20+9=17) (Troll 1 Will save: d20+3=17) (Troll 2 Will save: d20+3=18) (Troll 1: d20+9=15 d20+9=11 d20+4=10
Thursday June 29th, 2006 6:59:03 AM

Watching the strength of the Troll Rose tries to remember how to best kill a Troll... She kows Trolls have no fear of death at all and they will not quit when facing destruction. Fire and acid deal normal damage. But what worries Rose most is the Troll's regeneration ability... if it looses a limb the lost portion regrows quickly... or the troll can even reattach the severed member instantly by holding it to the stump...

All damage you do to the troll is treated as non lethal damage, and every round this non-lethal damage is lowered by 5Hp. Only damage done by Fire and Acid are treated as real damage!

But... this ... this means the other Troll is not dead yet!!!

INDEED IT ISN'T!!!

Slowly life returns in Troll 2 and he lifts his body... Having regenerated for 2 turns he's now back to 3Hp with 60 points of non-lethal damage.

Olyn drops the elf and he too slides from the Celestial Hippogriffs back He then orders the Hippogriff to destroy the bridge...

Dietrich swears when he sees that Vorelle too got at Close combat with the Troll... He quickly puts his bow away and charges the Troll on his flank...

Again the Troll's 10ft reach allows him an Attack of Oportunitu vs Dietrich! (Troll Claw hits AC17 -- miss)

Dietrich's attack is one filled with pure anger and hathred!

(Troll 1 takes 25HP)

Then Dietrich sees the Hippogriff swooping down to destroy the bridge! Their only espace!! He shouts a vehement "NOOOOOO" and at the last moment Olyn realises most of his friends are still on the wrong side of the bridge making him stop the Hippogriff... PHEW... thank goodness!!

Vorelle takes her axes in her hand and makes a defensive attack at the Troll. Perhaps because of her caution, her blow is weak and poorly placed. Still...

(Troll 1 takes 3HP)

Assuming the skulls are still far away Berlon drops his silence spell in a desperate gambit...

Immediately those who were under his spell can hear the fast riders, Hounds and who knows what other monsters at the other side of the forest... maybe some are allready inside the forest!!!

Berlon runs forward, within reach of the Troll but he's allready battering Dietrich. Berlon can see Jack's remains... he lays in a pool of blood his flesh torn apart... the lavender moon brings out the contrast even more and the grey look on Jack's totured face gives Berlon the shivers.

In front of everyone suddenly a 15' green skinnen giant pushes out of the trees brandishing a two handed sword pointing at the Troll bellowing a challenge before taking on the little ones...

The iron willed Trolls are not fooled by the illusion and laugh at the Giant...
(Troll 1 will save 17)
(Troll 2 will save 18)

Vauhwyt calls out to cross the bridge one by one and shouts to Olyn to order his Hippogriff to carry Jack's body. They will need it to bring him back.
Vauhwyt continues to tamper the bridge and hopes his efforts will be successful...

UNDER the bridge?!? ... razor sharp spikes a few hundred feet below a bridge that has been tampered with ... On the other hand it would be worth a try but it would definetely need security with use of a rope! After all, if the bridge collapses...

ROSE: FEEL FREE TO MAKE A DOUBLE TURN AS YOU WERE WAITING FOR MY REPLY.

Troll 1 now visciously turns to Dietrich. His blow hurt most and he clearly needs to be dealt with first... Troll 1 takes a full attack at the warrior!!

Troll 1 Claw 1 hits AC15 -- miss
Troll 1 Claw 2 hits AC11 -- miss
Troll 1 bite hits AC10 -- miss

Dietrich once again is awfully lucky and the Troll is shocked by the fact that he could not connect to Dietrich.

Troll 2 is back on his feet and slowly regenerates...

Whoever is entering the forest on the other side is set on trampeling you all... moving at full speed they will soon be here...

Dietrich; AC 19, HP 38/60  d20+12=27 2d6(2+5)+10=17 d6=3
Thursday June 29th, 2006 8:44:29 AM

The already bad situation is deteriorating even further. When Dietrich see the other Troll ressurecting, he swears and starts worying...

Again, he too would like to just get as quick away as possible, but how do you get through two Trolls? He shouts to Olyn:

"Olyn, get us out of here!!!"

To all others he shouts:

"Strike the &¨$¨%$ second Troll down with missiles and fire!!"

To himself he prays: "Domi stay with us!" and attacks Troll 1 again with extra power. If he can fell the monster at least for a while, perhaps the party could pass the brigde.
(flank +2, powerattack -2 +2 dmg;)

Hits ac 27; damage 17 +3 sneak attack

Vorelle [AC 19; HP 21/57]  d20+8=26 d20+8=18 d20+3=10 d20+3=12 d6+1=6 d6=2
Thursday June 29th, 2006 9:04:20 AM

Trapped in melee combat, Vorelle continues to swing cautiously at the troll. Her axes do nowhere near the damage of Dietrich's sword, but every little bit helps. She hopes.

[Attack defensively. Hit AC 26 for 6 damage; hit AC 18 for 2 damage. Hit AC 10 and AC 12, which I assume are misses.]

Vauhwyt (AC20 HP23 of 52) fatigued and Mookie (AC17 HP12 of 26) (Unseen Servant, Expeditious Retreat)
Thursday June 29th, 2006 10:44:47 AM

Mookie and the Unseen Servant put away Vauhwyt's theives tools and get out her rope. If Vauhwyt does end up under the bridge, she'll need that rope for security.

Satisfied with her sabotage, Vauhwyt ties a 15-foot length of the rope to herself, and the other end to the bridge anchor. Then she casts a message cantrip so that she can talk with Dietrich, Berlon, and Olyn.

"Olyn, can you get Jack's body out of therre?" she asks, her accent revealing her tension.

"Berlon, get over the bridge! And tell Rose and Theo to cross too -- but only one at a time!"

"Dietrich, you and Vorelle only need to hold off the trolls until the others cross! Take five foot steps so that when the time comes, you can withdraw! Fight defensively so you don't die!"

Olyn
Thursday June 29th, 2006 11:02:08 AM

yells at the Hippogriff to grab the remains of Mad Jack and fly him to the Inn, or as close to it as he can get b4 going poof. Then, turning he makes a beeline over the bridge, urging everyone else to follow.

Berlon 24/39 AC 20 (24 vs troll)
Thursday June 29th, 2006 11:20:08 AM

Berlon keeps up going as fast as he can, trying to stay out of the trolls reach and targeting where Jack fell. As he runs by Jack's corpse he will grab "whatever he can." He'll then head towards the bridge, moving a total of 45 feet.

Theodore & Macaw HP 21/26 AC 16 (mage armor, invisible)
Thursday June 29th, 2006 9:38:37 PM

Theodore is disappointed that his magic again has failed to accomplish what he wanted. Seeing Olyn's hippogriff pick up Jack's remain, Theodore heads toward the bridge.

He leaves the image of the Giant facing the oncoming horde. Perhaps they will be more susceptible to the illusion. (Will save 16)

rose  d20+8=24
Friday June 30th, 2006 5:47:59 AM

Rose rummages in her bag of holding and finally comes up with the three vials of citronella oil. She'll then move towards the bridge staying far enought away from the troll not to get an aoo.

rose will throw one of the citronella oils on a troll and yell "Someone set him on fire!" as she moves towards the bridge.

Jack the Ghost  d20+5=7
Friday June 30th, 2006 7:23:46 AM

As he stands from the onslaught of the troll, he feels wondorously free. Revenge, he needed revenge on the ugly brute. As he prepares to swing at the troll, he sees his weapon is gone. Obviously he had dropped it once again. Eyes down, he searches the ground for it.

Horrified he stopps his search when his eyes focus on his mangled corpse. EEE Gadsoiks, what happened? What is happening? As the world stops turning, he watches as the giant bird thing comes by and picks up his body, and flies toward the other side of the bridge. Such n odd sensation.

Too odd, too odd. He reaches up to scratch his head , that usually helped him to think. After a time he realizes, he had not touched his head. He forces himself to do so again, concentrating more this time. Yeppers, his hand went right thru his head. Not good, not good. Panic rises in his gullet. Wait, hmmm, no gullet.

Odd, noone seems to pay him much attention. Well, less than usual. Hmm, maybe he had gone ivisible again like the market. Nah, he could feel his body then. He had to do somethiung. Making a fist with his left hand he swings with all his might at the troll nearest him

OOC Hit AC7, not! No idea if I can attack or not. Oh ya, thanks for getting my bod kids.

[Inge: WONDERFUL POST JACK! Please keep it up and you'll be back ressurected in no time - that is if all others make it outside KM]

Battle Round 10: Run Friends Run!!!... [DM Inge]  d20+9=27 d6+6=8
Friday June 30th, 2006 9:02:30 AM

Last round Rose rummaged in her bag of holding and digs up three vials of citronella oil and ran towards the bridge outside the reach of the Trolls.

Dietrich swears and starts worrying as he sees the other Troll regenerating. He too would like to get our of here quick but... those Trolls!...

"Olyn, get us out of here!!!"

To all others he shouts:

"Strike the &¨$¨%$ second Troll down with missiles and fire!!"

He himself takes another hit at Troll 1! A fantastic blow... the Troll moans and shudders as he drops to his knees. All non-lethal damage, but plenty to knock the Troll out.

(Troll 1 takes 20HP -- non lethal)

Vorelle shops a few more pieces of the Troll and severes one of it's arms!

The Troll is down! The other one though has regenerated some more and now stands aware of you once again. H grins madly as he sees his brother collapse and prepares to attack...

Vauhwyt continues to work on the hero's retreat and ties a rope to herself and to the bridge anchor. This will secure her from hanging under the bridge... hopefully...
Using a message cantrip she bosses the others around... however her orders do seem to make a lot of sense...

Olyn's Hippogriff grabs the remains of Mad Jack and flies away to the Inn. The Hippogriff was around for 6 rounds -- it took 3 rounds to get here -- one round here -- 2 rounds left to fly. So Jack's remains will be dropped 800ft from here.
Let's just hope whatever Olyn saw near the Inn is not going to feast on his corpse...

Berlon is happy to see the Hippogriff picking up Jack's body and even though the limbs only hang loosely together no pieces fall off... He scurries towards the bridge and begins crossing it to Vauhwyt. The littleweight gnome poses no threat at all to the bridge.

Theodore is dissapointed to see his magic failing him once again. But the Giant Illusion might scare some of the pursuers!! So ... he decides his magic is not wasted after all and keeps the Giant guarding the forest exit.

He too moves towards the bridge, trying to stay out of reach from the Trolls -- you never know those brutes will accidentally hit him while being invisible!

Watching Troll 1 collapse Rose decides to throw a vial of oil on him.

"Someone set him on fire!" she yells. Setting the Troll on fire will deal 1d6 fire damage (and thus lethal damage) to the Troll and another 1d6 next round. It will be sufficient to keep this Troll unconscious anyhow.

Jack the Mad Ghost stands from the onslaught and feels wondorously free... a bit later he realises there's something weird about this whole situation. This intensifies when he sees a hippogriff taking off with his mangled corpse...

He takes a swing at the Troll near him but his fist goes right through...

(OOC. DaveT, shall we try something new? Why don't you use the Ghost Template on Mad Jack for your time in Kosche-Mar including it's traits? But don't forget that once you leave Kosche-Mar your ghost WILL be drawn towards the Woldsblood and you will loose the template again... )

Troll 2 walks up to Dietrich who clearly is the most powerful warrior of this rubble and takes a swing at him... (Troll 2 claw hits AC27 for 8HP)

(Dietrich takes 8HP damage)

Growling... howling... running paws... they are drawing near... it's won't take long now... maybe 1 more turn...

run friends run

Bossy Vauhwyt (AC20 HP23 of 52) fatigued and Mookie (AC17 HP12 of 26) (Unseen Servant, Expeditious Retreat)  d20+5=13 d20+19=30
Friday June 30th, 2006 9:52:00 AM

Vauhwyt has a thought. What if the Hunter can sense Samule? What if the treacherous soul shouts out at the wrong time? She tells the unseen servant (US) to take Samule out of her pocket (US move action) and put it in Mookie's beak (move action). Then she tells Mookie to fly to Berlon (move action) and put the soul in Berlon's pocket (move action). Next round, Mookie can rejoin her.

As for herself, holding on to the rope, Vauhwyt climbs down under the bridge and hides (move action, Climb check 13, Hide check 30 with improved cover from the bridge) (I hope it is olay to assume that Vauhwyt does get improved cover from the bridge!)

She tries to pick a spot under the bridge from which she is practiaclly invisible from the road, but she also does not want to be crushed when the bridge swings down!

Finally, Vauhwyt gets out her second Grease scroll (move action).

She speaks through her Message spell:

Berlon Please keep Samule safe. Keep running! I'll delay the pursuit!

Dietrich and Olyn lead them to safety. Only one person on the bridge at a time!!

Vauhwyt's plan is to wait under the bridge for the Hunt to arrive. She does not think the guardian trolls will cross the bridge, just as the skulls did not leave their own area. When the hunt crosses, as soon as the bridge gives way, she will cast her Grease (as a readied action), and send at least some of the Hunt into the canyon. Maybe some hounds will make it to the other side, but she hopes to take out some of those trolls, at least one, and who knows? Maybe the Hunter!

Then she will climb out and run -- or at least hustle.

Vauhwyt is afraid that her Expeditious Retreat spell will run out soon, so she is ready to cast a new one, probably next round. The three-round duration is probably almost gone.

Bossier Olyn
Friday June 30th, 2006 11:29:16 AM

yelling to Vauhwyt as he runs over the bridge...

we aint got time for that. we need to be quick and decisive. we have a pack of hell hounds on the Inn side of the bridge between us and the Inn, we need to just drop the bridge when everyone is over and keep running.

EVERYONE, GET OVER THE BRIDGE RIGHT NOW. THAT INCLUDES YOU DIETRICH !!!

Jack the Ghost
Friday June 30th, 2006 6:41:52 PM

Of course his hand does not connect with the troll. All his companions seem to be running to cross the bridge, so he decides it to be best as well. Once across the bridge, he steps near Berlon, "Hey little man, can you see me?"

OOC Inge, no idea what ghost template you refer to. I think I have seen one in my 3.0 books somewhere. But have no 3.5 info. Unless it is under monster info. I will check this weekend.

Theo, the loaned rapier shouldbe by the bridge, dont forget to pick it up, if Inge will allow it, hhe.

Vorelle [AC 17; HP 21/57]  d20+7=14
Friday June 30th, 2006 8:47:44 PM

Vorelle is reluctant to leave Dietrich, but she has to trust the knight to fend for himself. She can't run for the bridge, though, without being attacked by the troll. Instead, she skirts the creature's deadly reach, sheathing her axes as she goes. Near the bridge she stops, turns, and fires. She is being careful not to hit Dietrich, so she misses the troll altogether.

[Single move to P-9, with the first step being to K-9 to avoid the AoO. Sheathe axes as part of movement. Draw bow as a free action (gotta love that Quick Draw!), and fire. With the -4 penalty for shooting into melee, only hit AC 14.]

Dietrich, AC 23, HP 30/60  d20+8=12
Sunday July 2nd, 2006 8:18:47 AM

Dietrich hears his friends shouting. He´s his own reflections on the matter though. He´d agree with Olyn, but the Troll is exactly between him and the bridge, how is he supposed to just get over the beast? Had his comrades done as he said and stroken down the monster, now the way would be open for the retreat.
Also, unfortunatelly Vauhwyt´s already prepared the bridge to colapse if two medium-sized creatures try to pass simultaneosly, so there is no possibility of a fast passing. The party will have to pass it one by one.
Finally, should he not die trying to hold the Troll till his comrades get to the other side, if the monster goes after him and steps on the bridge, Dietrich will fall with the enemy in the canyon.

The knight makes a grimm prayer to Domi and Gargul, preparing his welcome in the God´s realm...
He fights defensively (+4 ac, -4 attack; combat expertise feat), attacks (hits ac 12) and makes a withdraw movement to L11, trying to get around the monster and get open way to the bridge.

Theodore & Macaw HP 21/26 AC 16 (mage armor, invisible)
Sunday July 2nd, 2006 12:26:06 PM

Theodore takes care to only cross the bridge one at a time. Keeping in mind that he is invisible, and his friends can't see him, he gives everyone else the right of way.

Once over the bridge, Theodore turns and watches with trepidation, Dietrich's plight to cross the bridge. He silently urges his friend to hurry.

Jack the Ghost
Monday July 3rd, 2006 3:49:32 AM

As Jacks finger passws throug Berlons shoulder, his head snaps up in attention. "Summon" The bird creature that had picked up hus body and carried it off. Yes, his mind was working through the situation. This existence had to be one of another plane. His book of Wizardry explaind it well.

Reaching over his shoulder he searches for his packj, with the book inside. Swearing silently, heremebers he has no pack. Walking back over the bridge, he does his best to concentrate on the pages he had read. Placing an imaginary book in his hand, he flips the imaginary pages, searching for the passage. He often did this, in this manner, he could visualize experiences better by recreating them.

Ok, planes, or realities kept creatures to be summoned to the material plane, or where he lived. As he recalled the names of the various planes, he focused his mind. The Eti..., Eartii, Eth something, yest Eth something is where ghosts resided. So this must be the Ethereal plane. Closing the imaginary book, he looks around.

Off to his left is the bridge. Tilting his head he wonders. Looking down he finds he is no longer on the bridge, but floating over the expanse of the canyon. Odd sensation. But no fear. Hmm. Kooking towards the Trolls he takes a step towards them. He wills himself to take one giant step to the land there. Flying. Now that would be something to examine at a later date. Looking towards the Trolls he concentrates fully, trying to figure out how to return to that plane of existence.

Battle Round 12: The Mad Ghost Formerly Known as Jack? [DM Inge]  d20+9=18 d20+9=15 d20+4=6
Monday July 3rd, 2006 10:33:23 AM

In all this frenzy and dispair Vauhwyt finds time to reflect some thoughts. What if the Huntsman can sense Samule?!? Could Samule the Shade betray her when the Huntsman and his minions appear at the bridge exposing Vauhwyt... a somber thought but one to consider anyhow.

So without hesitating any further Vauhwyt orders Mookie and the Unseen servant to carry the rag -- Samule the Shade -- to Berlon and to put it in the gnome cleric's pocket...

Next Vauhwyt finds a good spot under the bridge... nearly invisible from above but one where she won't be dragged down once the bridge itself collapses. Lucky for the liontaur just beneath the bridge it seems the canyon walls are somewhat curved to the inside. Possibly in very early days water must have run through these canyons and it eroded the stones. How the spikes got at the bottom is beyong Vauhwyt's interpretation, but never the less... she found exactly the place she was hoping to find.

Through her message spell Vauhwyt bosses the others around and will see for their safe retreat...

But Olyn disagrees. As he sees the liontaur playing hide and seek below the bridge he yells to everyone to get the hell out of there quick and warns them there's another pack of Shadow Mastiffs at the Inn itself! They will need everyone to get inside safely. He advises to destroy the bridge as soon as everyone is over it.

On the other hand... Vauhwyt's speed is soo much faster than all others... it is possible she will be able to catch up anyhow...

Berlon runs over the bridge... ok it didn't collapse... It makes spooky noises but Vauhwyt can tell it will probably hold. Even if the little ones run with the rest. Then suddenly Berlon hears a voice near him... a familiar one... "Hey little man, can you see me?"

It's a ghostly voice Berlon hears and when looking around he sees a blurry image of what once was Mad Jack!! It's Jack the Ghost! Jack the Mad Ghost? Mad Jack the Ghost? The Mad Ghost Formerly Known as Jack? Whatever! Jack's ghost manifests itself to Berlon and the little gnome realises Jack's spirit can not leave to the Lands of Rest... not when he's within Kosche Mar! Here Jack's Ghost will never find rest and he would be forced to haunt here forever!! Better make sure his body -- the one that is now flying high up in the air -- is brought back to Dirt City!!

(Jack, you WILL loose the Ghost template once you leave KM -- this is a once in a lifetime experiece but you are not allowed to stay a ghost :-) -- I'm not even sure if I was allowed to let you do this! Maybe I will get spanked by Jerry for this :-/ )

Vorelle dodges the AoO from the Troll and retreats towards the bridge... there she lowers her axes, draws her Bow and fires... (I really need to examine this quick draw for I get the feeling you guys are goofing me around with this feat ;-) )

Rose throws another vial of oil at the other troll and retreats as fast as she can...

Dietrich hears Olyn's warning, but how could he leave with that $%&# troll between him and the bridge! Oh why can't this group fight together?!? Grim thoughts twirll through the warriors' mind, but he needs to give it a try. Behind him, the howling becomes louder and louder and he realises he won't have much time left soon...

He attacks the troll and makes a withdraw movement to get around the monster and get an open way to the bridge...

Now both trolls are covered in oil yet no one uses Rose's fantastic idea... only a bit more dirty that usual, but now better smelling thanks to the citronella oil the trolls remain in place... ready to fight!

That first troll is still unconscious and won't give Dietrich a headache, but the second one regenerates some more... as the warrior fails to connect the troll wickedly smiles down on Dietrich and takes a full attack!! (Claw 1 hits AC18 / Claw 2 hits AC15 / Bite hits AC6)

Once again Domi wathces over the brave warrior and Gargul seems unable to answer his call and refuses to take his soul... the Troll misses!

Thedore, being invisible, waits for his friends to cross and then he himself crosses the bridge as well... only the running feet tell Vauhwyt someone else just crossed the bridge but ... does she realises this was Theodre?!? Or was it a Shadow Mastiff!!!

Jack the Mad Ghost tries to find the way to deal with his existance on the ethereal plane and how to fight on the material plane... tough one! There's no book that's labeled "How to be a Ghost" (ooc I'll get over the Ghost sheet you send and send you the 3.5 details for the Ghost template as well. This could be fun :-) )

they are coooominggggg ...don't say I didn't waaaarrrnn you...

Vauhwyt (AC20 HP32 of 52) fatigued and Mookie (AC17 HP21 of 26) (Unseen Servant, Expeditious Retreat)  d20+11=29 d8+1=9
Monday July 3rd, 2006 2:31:09 PM

Vauhwyt says to Olyn, "Don't worry, I'll catch up fast, especially if I get a chance to catch my breath."

Mookie and the Unseen Servant get a scroll of Cure Light Wounds out of Vauhwyt's pouch. "Boss, rest after you heal us up some!"

Vauhwyt tries to make the scroll work. Her Use Magic Device check is a 29! And a roll of 8 on the healing die! That means 9 hp healing for both Mookie and Vauhwyt, with the Share Spells ability.

Holding her Grease scroll readied, hiding with Mookie and the Unseen Servant, Vauhwyt waits.

[OOC: Inge, any idea how much rest it will take to get rid of this darn fatigue? And PLEASE let me know a round or two before my expeditious retreat spell expires. Note: Vauhwyt cast the spell on May 30. That's 25 days ago. If we play a round a post, then she has 5 more rounds to go before it expires. But maybe there was a post that took more than one round?]

Rose  d20+8=24 d20+8=17 d4+2=4

Rose is frantic that nobody is setting the trolls on fire. She wonders if she has anything else to use and starts rummaging through the her bag of holding. You can see her with her head and arms inside the bag. Suddenly she pulls out some tindertwigs. She smiles and then lights an arrow on fire and tries to shoot the troll that is beating up dietrich.

damage: 4

Jack
Monday July 3rd, 2006 5:32:18 PM

Jack appears right next to the troll Dietrich is fighting.(T2N12) OOC Couldnt find me on map))

As Jack looks at the tyroll and his friend Dietrich in battle, Jack gets an idea, from where he has no clue. Possession. Spirits were able to possess others bodies. He knew for a fact having fought Urgle the orc on the plains of Dust. Could he now have the ability to possess another body. If so, this could get interesting.

Jack concewntrates fully on the troll. Bending his will around to pushing into the trolls mind.

OOC use Malevolence to possess the Troll, full round action, Will Save DC20, no AoO

Theodore & Macaw HP 21/26 AC 16 (mage armor, invisible)

Theodore stops on the other side of the bridge. He looks back as the rest of his friends move towards the bridge.

Olyn  d100=69 d20+7=26 3d8(5+7+3)=15
Monday July 3rd, 2006 9:43:35 PM

turning to see Dietrich still battleing the troll while others run across the bridge, Olyn yells for Dietrich to make for the bridge.

at the same time Olyn calls upon the might of Wardd to grant him his last 3rd level spell to strike down the Troll.

rolled a 69 for % for a 3rd level spell.

a Searing Light emanates from Olyn's open palms and strikes the Troll square in his back (hit ac26) for 15 points of damage.

Berlon 24/39 AC 20 (24 vs troll)
Monday July 3rd, 2006 10:50:48 PM

Berlon continues running as fast as possible, another 45 feet go beneath his short little legs...

Vorelle [AC 17; HP 21/57]
Tuesday July 4th, 2006 2:21:48 AM

Trusting to the casters and Dietrich to bring the troll down, Vorelle double moves across the bridge. Once safely on the other side she turns, bow in hand, to see if she can be of any help covering Dietrich's retreat.

Dietrich; AC 23, HP 30/60
Tuesday July 4th, 2006 8:35:20 AM

Dietrich smiles as the Troll isn´t able to pass through his defences.

Now that everybody got to the other side, Dietrich will risk being hit on his back and he runs at full speed after Vorelle to the other side of the canyon.
Hopefully being put on fire by Rose, being possed by Jack and being magically hit by Olyn will turn the beat´s attention away from the running knight...
