DM Bob and Carla Thursday June 8th, 2006 8:35:02 PM Brahmah, captain of the Chosen of Domi quickly goes to work salvaging what he can from the detritus spread across the beach. He hangs a few modest lengths of rope over the trunk of an oddly slanted tree, and proceeds to collect what wood he can. The remains of the raft are waterlogged and skunky, and even the long dead branches and twigs at the edge of the jungle are wet from the previous night's storm. It will be a challenge to get a fire going.
Meanwhile, Gecktar, Toros, and Winterglade administer first aid to their companions and each other until all visible hurts are healed. Wounds are mended, but those who draw on their personal mental and physical resources for their powers are sorely in need of rest after more than 24 hours without sleep. And yet, it is only mid-morning.
No sooner are his wounds mended, then Flat-Top is thinking of his stomach. The young centaur stays close to the edge of the jungle and looks for something edible. (Survival vs DC 10 and you locate a small spring burbling under the dense foliate. For every 2 points by which the check exceeds 10, you can feed one other taur.)
Zeoll does not find the sole surviving crew member from the Sea Hag. Did the Drowned get him, or was he carried off by a hidden shark hovering somewhere nearby? The wemic has an uneasy feeling that the half-orc's spirit may have been claimed by the grey-eyed one and now resides in the Shadowlands. However, the bard does see a large form stumbling along the beach towards the party, it's shape and size not entirely foreign to the wemic.
[OOC Please welcome our newest member; Keith Watson - Keith: please start posting as of now]
Zeoll (unwounded) Friday June 9th, 2006 12:05:59 AM
Zeoll sees the figure approaching. Some intuition suggests to him that this is a Taur ... maybe one who has been Chosen?
With that in mind, he does not have a weapon drawn, although his drum, is at hand (to Fascinate if needed).
Rock Friday June 9th, 2006 2:15:41 AM
His hooves sinking uncomfortably in the sand, the minotaur slowly trudges over to you all, stopping about 30 feet away.
He looks the group over wearily, his thick right hand rubbing his forhead just beneath his broad, sharp horns. The right half of his face and a good portion of his body is coated with sand, as if he had been laying face down on the beach.
He is a massive minotaur, standing nearly half again as tall as the largest humans and more than twice as wide. His thick legs end in meticulously polished hooves punctuated by delicate etchings of elaborate symbols. Etched also are his thick horns, stretching out just past his shoulders and then back in again, dipping slightly down toward his nose. In the end of the right horn dangle 4 brass or gold rings, equidistant from each other, centered in the horn itself, assumedly through drilled holes. The thick metal rings are placed so that shaking does not make them touch each other. Beneath his horns his mahogany fur is pulled together into two braids, keeping it safely out of his large predatory blue-black eyes. His sharp ivory teeth show through a small patch of torn and scarred lip beneath his right eye, making him always look as if he has a half smile. On the inside of each muscled forearm he bears a half-moon scar about 3 inches long.He wears little in the way of clothing other than a knee length kilt made of thick supple gray leather (porpoise skin), tied up with a thick leather belt. Hanging from the belt are the most blatant clues of his magical ability: his two traveling spell books and his component pouches. The first book is bound with two hard brown leather covers joined together with brass hinges and closed with a strong brass clasp. The second book is covered with two thick steel plates with matching hinges and a hasp that could hold a padlock, but currently does not. When closed, the second book looks less like a book and more like a steel box. He carries a huge backpack that nearly overflows with rope, a dozen or more candles, chalk, whistles, bells and assorted flasks, vials, jugs and scroll cases.
He grunts slightly before speaking to Brahmah in Minotaur "I lost my spear."
Winterglade Friday June 9th, 2006 5:57:25 AM
The centaur doesn't notice the newcomer until he speaks. Then Winterglade jumps up with a start.
Watching the newcomer converse with Brahmah he nudges Gecktar and asks quietly: "Somebody you Taurs have met before?"
Flat-top (AC 23 94/94 HP) d20+4=18 Friday June 9th, 2006 7:42:32 AM
OOC: Survival 18 (that means He found the Bubbling Spring and enough food for Four Taurs?)
Flat-top comming back to the camp sight, with the little bit of food he found. He Yells to Brahmah, "Captain! I found a little fresh water spring back there and alittle bit of food . . . Holly Molley!(spotting the new Minataur) Please tell me that HE'S friendly?"
Flat-top almost drops the Food he was carring.
Gecktar Friday June 9th, 2006 2:52:20 PM "Mmmm, never saw him before... but he seems familiar. Like you when we first encounter. I think this was our destiny to end up on this beach. Maybe the hand of Domi is behind this..." he answers to Winterglade
Brahmah Friday June 9th, 2006 6:31:14 PM
Looking up from his crouching position by a barrel, the leader and the Captain of the Chosen stands.
The minotaur ranger stands eight feet tall and some change, his hair is black but silvering and his horns have engravings of sea motifs and sailors. He is missing his tail and most of his left ear. He bears tattooes and massive scars on his forearms and chest. He looks stout and muscular for a middle aged minotaur. His gear gives the appearance of a traveler and one who might take up residence in a forest now and then. His human sized falchion and large kukri make for an odd pairing. His armor is clean.
Other than being in a VERY bad mood currently, the taur seems quite unsuprised by the appearance of the minotaur. "Sit. I'm Brahmah, captain of the Chosen of Domi and Journeyman of teh Woldian League of Adventurers.
How is it you come to be here on this land? Oh yes, and a spear..." He calls Toros over to them. "...Toros might have a spare spear, assuming that his gear wasn't lost in the wreck.
Toros, this taur... what was your name again? He needs a spear. Do you have one you can loan him for the time being?"
"Pah'caw..." He calls for his eagle. Chances are the golden eagle is confused or busy with hunting.
"Wow! Thats a great scar..." He gestures to the mahogany forearm.
"What is it you do? Arcanist of some sort I assume."
Paw'caw (ceil) Friday June 9th, 2006 6:48:48 PM
Paw'caw has just got a hold of a see black trout, when she hears her master call her. She then takes to the skys and speeds to her master.
Arriving to where Bramah is standing, she makes a dive passing in frount od her master, then drops the fish at his feet. rising to the sky again, circle once then will land on Brahmah's shoulder ( the shoulder with the padding). She'll tilts her head at her master, as if it say 'I find food?'
Toros Friday June 9th, 2006 8:27:12 PM
After 24 hours without sleep Toros's mind is out of order now. He runs there, helps that etc. just tries to exhaust himself so that he can collapse and thus rest, as he even seems to forget how to get a good rest.
He provides the finest spear to Rock from his gear collection and then drops to the ground sleeping like a baby finally...
Zeoll Friday June 9th, 2006 10:21:30 PM
Zeoll, a liontaur wearing leather armor, carrying a drum, and wearing a cloak, bows in greeting and says, "Welcome."
If you know anything about liontaur culture, you might be able to tell that Zeoll is both a bard and a druid, from the beads and feathers braided into his mane.
DM Bob & Carla Saturday June 10th, 2006 12:11:14 AM
Unabashed, the stranger approaches the Chosen of Domi, and just as straightforwardly he is acknowledged. Perhaps it is the proximity to the King's Channel and their home, or perhaps it is their general weariness, but the taurs are not suspicious of the big minotaur.
Brahmah welcomes the dark newcomer, and a desperately tired Toros hands a spear from his collection over to the stranger, before stretching out exhausted in the sand. While Zeoll offers a sincere welcome, Winterglade and Flat-Top can't hide their surprise. Gecktar wonders if the hand of Domi is somehow in this.
Those who check their gear will notice that earlier attempts made to safeguard the equipment were in general successful. Equipment stored in wooden barrels and chests stayed together and came ashore as part of the raft. Unfortunately any rations have been spoiled, and anything made of parchment, scrolls, books, or maps, will have to be carefully dried in order to be preserved. Anyone with magical Seals will notice they have been damaged, and may no longer be usable.
However, Flat-Top informs the group of a fresh water spring nearby, and brings food sufficient to feed himself and 3 of his comrades.
Brahmah Saturday June 10th, 2006 1:02:11 AM
OOC: Oh darn, no more Seals... shucks... oh the humanity!
If the worse that happened is loss of Seals, we're lucky!
Winterglade Saturday June 10th, 2006 6:54:52 AM
The centaur approaches the newcomer and says: "I am Winterglade, son of Strawmane the Cursed, from the Windwalker Tribe."
He looks the minotaur up and down (well, mostly up, really; Winterglade is rather short for a centaur) and asks: "What be your name, stranger? Winterglade guesses that it was not merely the joy of sunbathing that brought you to this fine beach?"
Fresh, clean water is a very welcome find; as soon as his curiosity is satisfied Winterglade plans to thoroughly clean his equipment of residue salt, kelp, and such; especially his component pouch and healing kit.
Flat -top Saturday June 10th, 2006 8:50:01 AM
Flat-top advances to where Bramah and the Stranger are standing, Flat-top is 7'6" Tall, his appearance is piebald on his hide (Black background with white spots), his skin is very dark (almost as dark as the stranger) But his hair, main and tail are all white. Hia weight Is now 1,440 lbs.(he has lost a little weight since his ship wreck). You can see by his action that he's a fighter.
But he extends his hand in a welcome handshake, "Welcome! Stranger! I'm called Fla-top on a good day and 'Heyyou' on a bad day. What do they call you On a good day??"
Zeoll Saturday June 10th, 2006 12:25:51 PM
Zeoll checks out his stuff and dries out what he can.
Rock Saturday June 10th, 2006 1:40:46 PM
"They call me Rock, and I think I have food if you're all hungry." He drops his backpack and bends over it, opening and sifting through a great many things. Eventually he produces a leather bag which he reaches into and takes out a thick bundle before handing the bag to Brahmah. Inside are 6 days worth of barely edible but nutricious food. While he does this, he speaks.
"My ship capsized not far from here and another Liontaur and I got seperated. I never caught his name. I am traveling on a mission from the God of Courage. I think he sent me a vision of you, though I didn't think he would sink both of our ships to get us together."
At this point he takes the spear from Toros and bows slightly, turning the conversation away from the sleeping Centaur.
"I've never had much truck with the Gods, so I was not about to question when one told me to do something. Though, I have to admit, I had thought that others who claimed to have been chosen for "holy missions" were likely touched in the head more than being touched by the Gods."
Looking at Zeoll, he adresses the wemic "There was another with me, a liontaur like yourself... I have not seen him since the ship was lost."
He turns to the centaurs when adressed and answers in kind. "Well met Winterglade, son of Strawmane the Cursed, from the Windwalker Tribe and Fla-Top." You can tell by his tone that he means no mockery but is completely unfamiliar with centaur culture. As he stands close to Flat-top, you can see he is a full two feet taller than the big centaur.
Brahmah Sunday June 11th, 2006 12:00:19 AM
"You speak of another taur, here on this island?
Others that spoke of a holy mission? Who were they?
This storm, whether it was Vargas' doing or Domi's, has brought us two of our own Chosen. We must find the other and soon! But the day is short, we'll have to start tomorrow.
We'll start a fire and hopefully the other will find us." The minotaur seems to be gathering hope and relaxing a bit more.
Toros Sunday June 11th, 2006 7:49:09 AM
The loss of his seal is not a big deal for the liontaur, as it has already become useless. Besides they have had lots of things to worry recently and should feel happy that all the Chosen are alive still..
Feeling as if falling into a black hole that absorbs all sense of time and space, Toros wakes up after a couple of seconds of sleep with a refreshed mind (like a re-started computer system, perhaps not good to use as a metaphor at this age, but I can not think of a better one).
The multi multi-class wemic also introduces himself to Rock, thinking that finally something good has started to happen to the Chosen. He hopes everything will change for the better from now on...
Flat-top Sunday June 11th, 2006 8:17:47 AM
Flat-top prepars to get some sleep, he gathers some moss to make a soft pillow for his head and shoulders (he'll be leaning on a tree). He talk out loud so every body will hear, "I knew that storm was not natural!! I wish that Domi would have given us a dream insted of a ship wreck!!"
Leans on his chosen tree, fall asleep in a nano second. . . "Zzzz Snort zzz"
Gecktar Monday June 12th, 2006 4:45:05 AM "Welcome among us Rock,my name is Gecktar Cadeqa and I'm a holy taur of Domi, walking in his step as much as I can."
As you see us we are exhausted because we've a 36 hours day long without rest. I will be happy to chat for a while with you while other take some rest but I need to sleep too. So don't bother if I'm not loquacious."
"Captain I will take the first turn of guard. Other can sleep now, just let me knwo who I must wake after my turn."
DM Bob & Carla Monday June 12th, 2006 7:43:29 AM
The Chosen complete their introductions, welcoming Rock into their group. The news that a second taur may yet be lost on the island stirs the group, but exhaustion remains the strongest influence and the party decides to build a fire and rest. Perhaps the lost wemic will find them.
[OOC 20% chance that any scrolls or paper based items will have been ruined by the salt water unless packed away in one of the barrels during the ship-wreck. Please roll the d100 for each scroll carried on your person during the last bit of action]
Zeoll Monday June 12th, 2006 8:26:48 AM
Zeoll, who has had potent dreams of his own lately, is not so sure that the storm was the work of Domi, created by Him to bring the new Chosen together.
"Domi would not kill the innocent crrew of ourr ship just to suit his own needs, or ourrs! Maybe he used that storrm, but he did not cause it, I think."
The accent of the wemic reveals his origins as a member of one of the more primitive and traditional clans on Liontaur Isle.
Rock Monday June 12th, 2006 12:07:52 PM
Rock cocks an eyebrow "Perhaps I have not traveled enough, but it is my experience that rarely does one become a sailor because one is innocent. That aside, I think it a completely reasonable and suitable test for a God whose domain is courage. Could you have courage without risk and fear surrounding you? The Gods are rarely kind, so far as I have seen."
The minotaur flips open the pages of his metal spellbook and returns to his study.

Before sleeping, Toros remembers one last issue and goes to check his scrolls in the well-packed barrell. Seeming them all right make his last worries also disappear for now and takes a good rest untill Gecktar wakes him and he takes the turn of guard. After his turn of guarding he will wake the next taur, and go for meditation. Finally, he will not forget to get some of the food that Rock and Flat-top has provided. He feels refreshed at the end.
DM Bob & Carla Monday June 12th, 2006 11:11:13 PM
Speculation over the provenance and nature of the storm that shipwrecked the taurs on the same strange island binds the stranger and the Chosen of Domi. Though his dream of Domi was sufficient to inspire his quest to seek out the Chosen, Rock reveals a skeptical attitude when it comes to faith in the gods, and the provenance of sailors for that matter! A defensive Brahmah sets the record straight. Zeoll witnesses his faith in a god who favors diplomacy over violence, and restraint even in battle, declaring it was unlikely that Domi had a hand in the storm.
Flat-Top's scouting has resulted in clean water for all, but little by way of substance. Rock volunteers his rations.
Toros and Brahmah are relieved to learn their scrolls are okay, though some of the minotaur's came perilously close to being ruined.
Exhaustion finally overcomes the large creatures, as they succumb to the inevitable draw of sleep. Brahmah manages to eventually get a smoky fire going, but it is a poor affair. Night descends on the island. Bright stars overhead pin back the velvet depths of the heavens, while the taur's tiny campfire casts strange shadows on the beach.

The centaur trots a few steps away, puts on his hood, folds his arms over his chest and is soon dozing off lightly, as is his custom. Being a Windwalker he wakes up fresh and ready for the next day before the first watch is over. Quietly he walks over to the fire and adds another log to the dying embers. "Winterglade is done sleeping this night." - he whispers to Rock. "He's been thinking about the people we have been travelling with. A rugged and scurvy lot they were, true, but they died horrible deaths. Winterglade is sad. Death seems to follow close in the tracks of this party."
He spends the rest of the night looking at the stars and listening to the ocean and sounds coming from the jungle [Spot 19 with Low Light Vision, Listen 7].

Toros is alert after the experience of the dangerous wellcome party, (spot, 21, listen, 24). Still it is good to be alive after all these bad times. While guarding, time to time you can hear the taur singing quietly Glade's recent song:
"Six dead Taurs on the Sea Hag's deck, Yo ho ho, and Green Gnomish, Leaving port and never coming back, Yo ho ho, and Green Gnomish..."
On the other times, a dark cloud shadows his mind, as he recalls the unfortunate destiny of the Sea Hag's crew.

Exhausted, but used to roughing it, the taurs doze through what remains of the day. Some more shared rations are distributed, and then watches are set up as directed by the captain. The evening isn't too uncomfortable, due to the warm climate. Toros thinks he sees something in the shadows created by the undergrowth at the edge of the jungle, but it is hard to be sure with the broken trunks and creeping vines, not to mention the gloom of the night. The wemic passes on the information to the next watch, but no one else sees or hears anything the rest of the night.
Sleep is restorative for the Chosen of Domi. Only Zeoll is visited by a dream, in the last hours of sleep after his turn at watch. The dream is one that is common to many intelligent creatures. He dreams he is being chased...by something....unseen. The sense of terror is still with him on waking, and yet he knows such dreams often stem from feelings of anxiety in waking life...
Thanks to Winterglade the smokey little fire is still going in the morning. The early risers compose themselves, and gather strength from whatever source inspires them. Flat-Top sleeps in, while Brahmah volunteers for a double watch, and uses the opportunity of a shared shift with Rock, to better understand the taciturn newcomer.

Winterglade Wednesday June 14th, 2006 3:13:07 AM
As soon as the sun rises up over the horizon Winterglade stretches. Then he looks around, obviously displeased with something.
"There is no place around here to have a safe run... There won't be any healing coming from Winterglade today other than from wands. He is definitely not going to run blindly through the jungle, no. He doesn't want to make a close acquitance with an assassin vine."
"The beach might do, yes, but we don't know enough about this land yet to risk our lives separating like that. Maybe tomorrow, if we explore it today." - he says sadly.
"Any of you good at reading tracks? Might be worth our while to see if there really was something watching us from the jungle."
"That done, how about we try to walk along the beach? We'll see if we are on an island or a peninsula or something; if there are any settlements here they are likely to have been built with access to the ocean, and we might be even able to find this other taur or his tracks. Or some flotsam maybe that could prove useful."

The issue of fatigue addressed, the taurs become aware of the pressing needs of their stomaches. Without food or water, they will become weak and sick. While Toros, Zeoll, Brahmah, Flat-Top, and the newcomer, Rock, forage for food, Winterglade stares longingly out at the expanse of wet, but firm beach the receding tide has left exposed. The centaur's muscles, and mind, ache for the exercise. Maybe a little run wouldn't be so dangerous? Worry etched across his face, Gecktar checks his HHHaversack regarding the status of his items. (OOC: I can find nothing that says a HHHaversack is waterproof, however I am seeking clarification from those in the know on the Rules Board-DM Carla)
Despite rising late, Flat-Top makes himself useful, filling the party's canteens and water skins. Through their combined efforts, the taurs collect enough fruit and other victuals to satisfy their immediate hunger with some to spare. Much to the delight of the wemics, Brahmah manages to snag a rather large fish. The captain of the Chosen gravely ponders what he has learned from his observations. He figures the party must be somewhere in the Lotophagi Ocean. He figures it must be one of the islands of the Shipwreck Shoals, which means the party isn't far from their home. Not much is known about the islands, though, and whether they are inhabited or not. Neither he, nor Flat-Top see any signs of what Toros thinks he spotted the night before, though there are various footprints of common shore birds on the wet sand exposed by the receding tide, and some tracks at the edge of the jungle that seem to belong to the small, wild creatures that live within.

Winterglade Friday June 16th, 2006 3:36:17 AM
Winterglade watches Flat-Top prancing on the hot sand of the beach and other party members busy with fishing and hunting. Being stuck on this island is probably going to be a major setback on the quest to defeat Vargas, but seeing that there is nothing that can be immediately done about it, why not enjoy a brief moment of release from the burden of responsibility?
"All right Flat-Top, see if you can keep up!"
And with these words Winterglade is off, racing along the beach, sand sprinkling from under his hooves.
[Standard selection of spells. Winterglade will try to circle the island, keeping an eye on the position of the sun every now and then. If two hours pass and it looks as if there is still more beach ahead of them then behind them, Winterglade will suggest going back.]

Brahmah d20+14=28 Friday June 16th, 2006 11:36:19 AM
Brahmah takes Rock and Toros to where Toros saw/heard that night and searches for tracks. (survival 28)
"What do you think you saw here Toros? Rock, how long were you here before meeting us?"
Gecktar Friday June 16th, 2006 11:41:20 AM
Gecktar looks at the two centaur with a smile. It's always pleasant to have joyful guys in a group. He loks at Zeoll and says "If you want to work on your cloak, I've the spell prepared if you need it"
He wonders if they would find something that make them progress in their quest on this isle.
Rock Friday June 16th, 2006 12:25:50 PM
"I awoke on the sand, gathered my things and started walking. Approximately an hour later, I came upon you." Rock smiles slightly, the scar tissue on his lip wrinkling slightly and turning a lighter brown.
Zeoll Friday June 16th, 2006 1:01:18 PM
Zeoll smiles at Winterglade and Flat-top. "I'm fast," he says, "but not as fast as they arre!"
"I just hope that they can outrrun any trrouble they might find!"
Meanwhile, he gladly accepts his good friend Gecktar's help and works on his cloak.
Toros d20=8 Friday June 16th, 2006 7:16:50 PM
"I am not sure captain... however I am certain that there was something out there last night." Toros tries to do his best to help to identify some tracks, but sometimes it is just a matter of luck besides skills... (aid another, 8)
DM Bob & Carla Monday June 19th, 2006 7:44:23 AM
Winterglade accepts Flat-Top's offer of a run along the wet sand and the two dash off to the north. After as little as 30 minutes the two centaurs reach a point where a massive escarpment juts out into the sea, blocking their path forward. The dark rock is jagged and rough, and could be climbed by the more proficient in the group. The upper slopes are covered in vegetation.
Zeoll and Gecktar remain by the barrels and other items 'saved' from the Sea Hag and the whemic retrieves the partially finished cloak he has been working on. Wet sand and the remains of whatever had been originally stored in the barrel have found their way onto the cloak.
Toros, Rock and Brahmah investigate last nights sounds and search for tracks in the wet sand. All they find are the imprints of small animals leading to and from a small tide pool that has trapped some starfish and other crustaceans. Rock points southwards down the beach to where he came from. The beach stretches out like a large crescent until it reaches a headland in the distance.
Zeoll Monday June 19th, 2006 3:40:59 PM
Focussed on his crafting, Zeoll does not even notive that the centarus come back. He is intent on placing magic into the cloak.
Flat-top Monday June 19th, 2006 8:33:41 PM
Flat-top come to a halt, "Hey! Look at this?? This rock! Look how sharp the edges are is? And look up there ! all that green stuff??
You want to climb uo there? I don't think I can,"
Toros Tuesday June 20th, 2006 12:10:11 AM
Having found nothing of value, Toros feels disappointed, wondering what to do next. "Those creature who attacked us went back to the waters." What he expresses even makes the wemic more uncomfortable, as this is not a new information but pretty obvious matter of fact. "...Perhaps we can search for a cave or something under the sea surface...?"
Winterglade Tuesday June 20th, 2006 12:57:22 AM
"Climb it? Are you kidding? If Brawler wanted us to climb things he would have given us monkey tails and toes. Nah, Winterglade thinks it's time we turn back."
Later on, when they have described what they have seen to the rest of the party, Winterglade watches the Chosen with an expression of worry on his face.
"Listen, Winterglade is uneasy. Time is not working with us on this mission. We have several options: first, climb that high cliff we have just discovered; second, head into the jungle and hope to find a friendly tribe of natives or something; third, follow the beach in the other direction; fourth, search for a cave and finish the job with the undead. The point is, we should choose something and start doing it, sitting here on the beach accomplishes nothing."
"Winterglade thinks climbing that cliff might be a good way to start. We could be able to see much more from there, perhaps even the whole island - if this is indeed an island."
Gecktar Tuesday June 20th, 2006 3:39:59 AM
Gecktar listen attentively to Winterglade and knows what he says is true. But he is not familiar with climbing and refrain from taking this path "You're true Glade but I thing climbing this escarpment could be uneasy. Not to say that jungle is easy but I think all of us can go true the jungle but only few will be able to climb. Maybe entering the jungle near the escarpment could be the solution so we could find an easier way to climb ?"
"Captain what do you think, I agree with Glade that, now, we should move"
(OOC: I will be on vacancy next week, begining this friday. Is there someone to play Gecktar ?)
Brahmah Tuesday June 20th, 2006 4:56:06 AM
"We'll walk up the beach, along that crescent, until we find something. Wreckage, whatever. Maybe we are close enough to home that we can signal ships. If this is the Lotophagi Ocean, we are nearest to home than we've been in months."
Flat -top Tuesday June 20th, 2006 6:51:17 AM
Flat-top listens to winterglade, "Your right! So let's go back to the others and think of something else." The Two Centaurs races back to the camp sight (ofcorse Flat-top let's Winterglade win!) After Winterglade tells his story and some solutions. Flat-top pips in "All are good ideas, except for the climbing. As for me I'd take my chances with the junjle. More food to find in there!"
Flat-top look to Captain Brahmah? He's not there Just his Golden Eagle eating a fish in the top of a tree.
DM Bob & Carla Tuesday June 20th, 2006 12:32:23 PM Zeoll Foregoes exploring in favor of working on his magic cloak. The cloak will require cleaning before the wemic can further his work or Gecktar invoke his magic. A worried Toros contemplates the waves and gives voice to his concerns about the drowned creatures from the depths.
Winterglade and Flat-Top race back from the rocky outcroppings at the northern tip of the crescent shaped beach. They share their information with their friends. Flat-Top, Winterglade, and Gecktar all express concern over the prospect of climbing, though Winterglade suggests that scaling to the top might provide the advantage of a view . Brahmah suggests walking along the beach. Flat-Top and Gecktar suggest the party take their chances with the jungle. There is always the small game trail leading to the tide pool.
It is a good thing Flat-Top filled the water skins. The day is grows warmer as the sun climbs higher. By noon, the taurs are starting to feel the heat.
Rock Tuesday June 20th, 2006 4:02:52 PM
"I definately reccomend AGAINST the underwater cave idea, but if it comes down to that, allow me eight or so hours to prepare magics. It works much differently underwater."
He turns a cautious eye to the jungle "Though I can't say any of the plans fills me with warm feelings."
Zeoll Tuesday June 20th, 2006 11:57:52 PM
Zeoll uses his Create Water orison to conjure clean water with which to rinse his cloak.
Then he holds it carefully and does his best to make sure it is clean and whole.
He comments to the group, "Maybe our first priority should be helping the other Taur that Rock saw. Where was that?" he asks Rock.
Winterglade Wednesday June 21st, 2006 4:36:21 AM
Winterglade, having said his piece, is circling slowly around the group, stopping briefly only once to remove a stubborn pebble lodged under his hoof.
"The beach it is, then?-"
Then a thought strikes him.
"Hm, what about our map? Did anyone check if it survived the shipwreck? Might be worth checking if it is showing something new."
"Other than that Winterglade is ready to move out."

The ranger walks around, never being more than 200 yards from the nearest Chosen.
He notes landmarks, tallest trees and trails(and creatures that use those trails) and also takes into account the currents and tides in this area. All these can help the Chose later. He even looks at types of seaweed and tries to determine which plants are edible.
(Spot 17 and Listen 26) He tries to find animals to speak with. (Handle Animal 8)
(Chosen, I have been playing Brahmah in the Dark Fey Rising Tapestry One and have earned each of you (and myself) 2700gp.)
Rock Wednesday June 21st, 2006 11:25:24 AM
The big minotaur turns to Zeoll. "I don't know if he even survived the shipwreck. The last I saw him, I was going belowdecks to sleep. He could be here on the island or at the bottom of the sea, I have no idea."
Gecktar Wednesday June 21st, 2006 4:52:48 PM
Gecktar looks his captain taking marks. He knows he is the most skilled of all Chosen when in comes to survival. He trust his captain to lead them through the jungle or the beach.
As echoing the question of Winterglade "Should we go on the beach ?"
(OOC Oh Brahmah thank you ! did we add this cash to our character sheet ?)
DM Bob and Carla Supplemental Wednesday June 21st, 2006 8:12:36 PM
Some folks from this game have played in a Tapestry game called Dark Fey Rising and as such are being awarded treasure that they get to share with their regular game.
Bob and I are following (as best we can) the awards being made. We will post an announcement when we have more information.
In the mean time, there will be no visits to the Catacombs. It is not appropriate at this stage of the game.-DM Carla
DM Bob & Carla Wednesday June 21st, 2006 10:52:37 PM
The tide seems to be turning [I couldn't resist the bad pun] in favor of walking south along the beach towards the headland in the distance.
Brahmah spends some time marking landmarks for future reference and generally studying his surroundings. The captain is able to ascertain that the beach is well protected from storms by the reef out to sea, and that the sheltered nature of this large sweeping bay has translated into a rich aquatic community with many edible plants and animals. But nature is capricious, and where great bounty exists, there also exists great peril, for in his examinations he finds a number of poisonous creatures including a sea snake and a stone fish, either of which could seriously injure a careless taur.
The heat begins to build as the sun rises. The sand grows hot under the feet of the taurs and there is much to be done before setting off. Camp must be either abandoned or broken down. Barrels unloaded of their items and repacked for travel, and a marching order decided upon.
Winterglade Thursday June 22nd, 2006 8:05:45 AM
Winterglade has packed up his equipment shortly after the arrival at the beach. All his belongings are now neatly stashed away in his saddlebags. The centaur is standing in the ocean, water washing over his hooves, ready to depart whenever the rest of the party decides it is time to.
"When we move out I'll just hang somewhere at the rear."
[Great news, Jay! I'll be able to repay Gilles what I owe him sooner than I thought.]
Flat-top Thursday June 22nd, 2006 8:25:16 AM
Pack his saddle bags, but will take the empty barrels (As many as he can carry) along so they may either make another raft or Fire wood.
Flat-top will refill the water skins, and will march any where Brahmah wants him to be in line. "Im ready! Where do you want me! Next to Toros?"
Toros (sub Ceil) Thursday June 22nd, 2006 8:28:25 AM
Toros turn tolook at Flat-top, "Pee! YEEW! take a bath in the sea first! Then maybe you'll smell like a Sea Breeze! That's when I walk beside you!'" Toros snickers at Flat-top!
Paw'caw (ceil) Thursday June 22nd, 2006 8:30:03 AM
The Golden Eagle watches the going on, as she preem her feathers.
Zeoll Thursday June 22nd, 2006 9:59:30 AM
Satisfied with his cleaned-but-not-further-improved cloak, Zeoll makes ready to leave this stretch of beach. The druid sees no reason to worry about the flotsom of the wreckage. The party can easily live off the land, from what he has seen.
[OOC: What is in these barrels anyway? If no one has looked, Zeoll will at least take a peek. But unless there is something special, I don't anticipate him taking anything. Still, waste not, want not ... do let's move them above the high-tide line so they won't float back out to sea.]
Brahmah Thursday June 22nd, 2006 12:03:26 PM
The ranger spreads the word about the dangers of the island.
Toros - OOC Thursday June 22nd, 2006 12:10:02 PM
Thank you for the sub, Flat-Top, and the gold, Brahmah!!
Also, Gecktar; I wish I could sub you but I am afraid I am too busy to do it properly. BTW, Toros has paid his gold debth to Gecktar a while ago, but I do not know you have noticed his related post at that time, which you had a time off, as I did not receive any response in your post later on.
Also, I think I still have not congratulated you for the baby, as I was also away, when you let us know that the new baby was born! Be-lated Congratulations Father Gecktar!
DM Bob and Carla Thursday June 22nd, 2006 8:05:03 PM ...the story so far
When the Sea Hag is scuttled against the rocky reef of a mysterious island, the Chosen of Domi are cast adrift on a makeshift raft of barrels and boards retrieved from the sea. The tide brings the weary group closer to shore, but the party's way is blocked by bloated corpses of drowned sailors who previously perished on the same deadly reef that claimed the Sea Hag and her crew. Able to overcome the monsters, the group washes ashore and makes camp. They are joined by another of their tribe. The minotaur, Rock, had been sent on a quest by Domi to find the Chosen at their keep on Bridge Island. The small boat on which he had booked passage suffered a similar fate as the Sea Hag, and by Domi's hand, the stranger had been lead to the camp of his new companions.
After a night during which one of the party had felt strange eyes upon the group, the group begins explorations of their environs. While Zeoll worries about his magical cloak, Gecktar frets about visitors from the sea. Toros and Brahmah explore the edge of the jungle. Winterglade and Flat-Top explore the northern half of the beach and discover difficult cliffs. Rock reports there was another who set out with him, but he has not seen him on the island.
The party decides to explore south. A careful inventory is taken of gear, as items are repacked after cleaning and drying. Alas, all rations, and magical seals have been ruined, but all scrolls, books, and maps are intact! Water skins are refilled, and Flat-Top finds a small empty barrel, and fills it as well. After pulling empty barrels, water logged boards, broken nets, and small sections of frayed rope higher up the beach to a position above the water line; the party sets off to the south.
It takes the better part of the rest of the day for the Chosen of Domi to achieve the southernmost part of the crescent shaped beach. As long shadows stretch their fingers from the edge of the jungle, the party sees their way blocked by a steep ascent over rough shoulders of rock. Here and there, the rock is shattered, as if some great sword has cleaved through it, and the next cliff of granite further back, with the sea heaving all about it. To one side, out in the sea, a weir for catching fish, but old, rotted and abandoned, to the other side, an opening in the jungle, and a narrow path, overgrown, but still visible, leading to the interior of the island.
The sun settles further, and the shadows grow longer. There is but an hour or two before dark.
Winterglade d20+1=20 Friday June 23rd, 2006 2:33:48 AM
"Well, somebody has been living on this island. Perhaps is still living. Good news, Winterglade thinks. Does it look like a taur-made path to you? I imagine it would take the jungle less than a year to overgrow it, no? This would mean we might have a company here."
"Pity we can't see the island from bird's eye view. A trace of smoke would give away any camps still present."
"Now, do we press into the jungle or do we make camp? I am happy with either, but if we camp I would prefer the beach. More open space, less risk of an ambush."
While the party debates on what to do next Winterglade wanders over to the weir and casually looks around. If there are any old tools left over he could at least tell if its builders and users were man or taur-sized [Search 20].
Brahmah Friday June 23rd, 2006 8:48:26 AM
"Glade, we might be able to get that view. Pah'caw!" He calls the golden bird. "Friend, seek smoke. Then return."
Paw'caw (ceil) d20+5=22 Friday June 23rd, 2006 9:24:48 AM
Pae'caw who is never far from her master, Takes to the skies, doing her lazy eight patern, sherching for some sign of life (Like smoke or movement of some kind).
Serching 22.
If Par'caw find anything, she'll return to Brahmah. If she find nothing She'll go perch for the night.
Flat-top d20+6=23 Friday June 23rd, 2006 9:31:59 AM
Flat-top will serch the water line nd the beach for big cat paw prints, Flat-top is still loog for the liontaur that Rock was talking about. "Captain, I'll look for some dry wood for a camp fire, if I don't find any there's always the empty barrels I brought along!"
Spot 23.
Zeoll d20+14=21 Friday June 23rd, 2006 10:43:38 AM
Zeoll feels strongly that the group should wait for Paw'caw to come back, and then camp here for the night.
"We should starrt frresh tomorrow," the druid/bard says.
He also arranges for some scouting. First he uses his Rod of Extend to call a longer-lasting air elemental (spontaneous casting of SNAII, six rounds). He asks it to fly up and up, then come down with enough time to tell him what it sees. (Zeoll speaks Auran.)
Then the curious druid walks as close as he safely can to the granite cliff. He looks at it, surprised. He ponders, says two prayers (Taur's Try and Guidance) and thinks about his druidic lore (Knowledge Nature check 21). Shoals usually come from coral, which makes sandstone islands. Or volcanos make islands of fire-fueled rock, like pumice and basalt and obsidian. What is a granite cliff doing here? Or, as he looks more closely at it, maybe it is not granite after all?
He uses his rod and his remaining second level spell slot to call an earth elemental. He asks it to enter the cliff (via its earthglide ability), explore, and come back in time to tell him what he finds. Zeoll recalls that islands often have caves ... lava tubes in basalt, water-carved caves in limestone. Maybe the elemental will find one. (Zeoll speaks Terran.)
After these investigations are over, Zeoll offers more thoughts to the Chosen:
"The way I see it, therre arre often wrrecks herre. They call these the Shipwrreck Shoals forr a rreason! Look at those undead! And if therre arre surrvivorrs, they will surrely take the easy path inland, the path we see herre. That means that we may be expected if we go that way. Therre may be trraps. Forr surre we will surrprise no one."
"So let us NOT take the obvious path! I say let's use good Winterrglade's Waterr Brreathing spell to continue trravelling arround the island, walking or swimming underwaterr wherre the land is too rrough."
"Afterr that we can go inland wherreverr we want. Let us not fearr the jungle, please! Afterr all, therre arre among us those who arre verry at home herre!"
The liontaur gets a wistful look. "The same brreezes that rruffle my mane trravel on just a few morre miles to my home. This is my neighborrhood! Let us not hesitate to embrrace Naturre herre, on ourr home terrain!"
[OOC to Bob and Carla: Highlight to display spoiler: {You guys are scientists, right? That's why the granite thing threw me for a loop ... and I figured it for a clue. Hope I'm not going overboard here.}]
Rock Friday June 23rd, 2006 7:11:01 PM
The large beast grunted slightly with amusement.
"If that's the case Zeoll, I think you said your name was, why do we not fly over the cliffs?"
Brahmah Saturday June 24th, 2006 10:56:46 AM
"Rock, if your able to fly us up, thats great. Just offer."
Rock Saturday June 24th, 2006 12:44:05 PM
"I thought I was offering." Rock says, a wide smile wrinkling his scarred lip.
"I happen to have that spell ready, but it will only let one of us fly up. I could possibly make it so three of us could with some preparation, but my reccomendation would be that someone fly up and affix a grapple and knotted rope to the top, allowing us all to climb it fairly easily."
Brahmah Saturday June 24th, 2006 6:42:42 PM
"I like that idea. We have any dry rope? If we use wet, we risk stretching it."
Rock Saturday June 24th, 2006 7:00:25 PM
"I have quite a lot of rope" Rock states proudly, dropping his pack gently to the sand and unlashing two large coils of black silk rope and another, thicker, rougher hempen coil. He places them at Brahmah's feet and hands the warrior a grapple. "What's wet can be made dry, probably fairly quickly in this sun."
"One never knows what one may need"
Brahmah Sunday June 25th, 2006 7:59:59 AM
"Well, it is certain that this ONE NEEDS to get off this bloody island!"
Brahmah gathers the bit of rope he collected when they first landed and checks to see if there any viable lengths that might be useful. He will splice pieces together, or will have someone help with that.
Toros d20=7 Sunday June 25th, 2006 8:03:51 AM
Reflecting on what has happened recently, Toros conducts a small ceremony for the lost souls of the Sea Hag, hoping that there spirits will not be lost, as the sailors the Chosen has encountered at the beach (Thanks for the nice summary of the story!).
Then, Toros helps Flat-top to find and carry some dry wood (d20, 7). On return, he sees the taurs are talking about flying up the cliff, and thus comments to Flattop:" Flat-Top, wouldn't it be nice, if there would be some winged-taurs, created by Tomi, like a griffine or pegasus. Then we would all explore the skies... Still flying by magic is also a good idea..."
DM Bob & Carla Sunday June 25th, 2006 9:24:11 AM
The Chosen of Domi get busy as the last rays of the sun cast their light upon the beach.
Winterglade examines the abandoned weir, and deduces it was not made by taurs, but rather by creatures the size of humans he has seen.
Flat-Top worries about Rock's companion, and with Toros' help gathers driftwood for a small campfire.
Brahmah sends his animal companion on a brief scouting mission, then discusses equipment with the well-stocked Rock who volunteers several lengths of good rope, if the party decides to climb the rocky cliffs.
Zeoll gets busy in the time remaining before dark and summons two of nature's children to investigate for him. The elementals do their business and report to the druid. Eyes sparkling like gems, the earth elemental appears to have enjoyed its commune with the ancient rock. In a voice like an echo from a tunnel it explains: those who understand Terran Highlight to display spoiler: { the hard granite has been solidified deep within the earth, under extreme pressure. Over the eons, it was forced to the surface. Years of exposure to wind, rain, and waves scraped off the layers of dirt, sand and rock to expose the formations of the outcroppings.} The wemic knows from his studies that the existence of volcanic islands, and coral reefs are not mutually exclusive, and that shoals per se, are any place where the water is shallow over a build up of land. In the case of the Shipreck Shoals the term had been applied loosely to a cluster of mysterious islands, between Liontaur Island and Minotaur Island. Zeoll has little time to ponder these facts, when his second summoned creature returns to debrief. In a low moan it describes: those who understand Auran Highlight to display spoiler: { A dwelling of some sort, with metal tubes suspended in a cluster from the eaves. Excited and distracted, the creature describes how when it whirled through the tubes, they emitted a sonorous melody!}
Later, Paw-Caw sends a message to Brahmah through the empathic link they share. Brahmah, Highlight to display spoiler: { sees, as if from the bird's eye, down into a valley. The sun glows on the pale stone of a manor house that commands a view of the valley from the opposite hillside. Manicured gardens, lawns, pools, and fountains complete the picture. There is movement, and then the image of something small, and grey, and fleeing as the shadow of the eagle races along the ground and the link is broken.}.
Flat-Top's fire glows invitingly in the dark of the night, and there is still water and fruit left over from the morning.
Winterglade Monday June 26th, 2006 3:46:11 AM
"Waterwalking, waterbreathing - Winterglade can do that, yes. About two hours of breathing water, or ten minutes of walking on it per taur. Winterglade doesn't like going underwater, though. You usually can't see a thing, and you move as if through molasses, and later it leaves a bad aftertaste in your mouth, as if you ate a rat, yuck. If we need any of these powers tell Winterglade before he goes off for his run in the morning."
"Winged Taurs? And why would Brawler want to make any more Taurs? With us centaurs he finally got everything perfect."
Winterglade spends the first half of the first watch dozing off lightly, his hooves in the water. For the rest of the night he works on one of his cloaks under the light of the moon, the stars, and dying embers of the campfire.
Flat -top Monday June 26th, 2006 9:23:36 AM
Flat-top remembers the time they all on a lift, and as the lift went up at amodret speed, To him it felt like he was flying on invisable wings. He answers Toros with a smile of untold memory, "Ahh! Yes! To Fly like a pegases or a griffen! That would be wonderful!!" This daydream was nice!.
UNTIL Winter busted his daydream. So Flat-top barks at Winterglade, "Wake Me Up for Second Watch!" Flat-top will sleep leaning on a tree.
Paw'caw (ceil) Monday June 26th, 2006 9:25:47 AM
Paw'caw relates the scean to her master, then will pearch on top of a tall tree until morning.
Brahmah Monday June 26th, 2006 1:22:30 PM
"We are about a mile from the the nearest village. Pah'caw found civilization here on the island."
Rock Monday June 26th, 2006 3:51:30 PM
"Who here is best with a rope? Brahmah, something tells me it's probably you. Which way does Pah'caw say the village is?"
Zeoll Monday June 26th, 2006 6:07:13 PM
Knowing that he has much to learn about Mother Wold's mysteries, the liontaur thanks the elementals as they return to their homes.
Zeoll tells the group that the air elemental found a dwelling with a porch and wind chimes on the porch. He gives the group whatever sense he got (if any) of how far away it is, and where.
Zeoll thinks that a combination of climbing, flying, walking, and maybe waterwalking or breathing is a good plan for continuing to circumnavigate the island. With a ny luck, the group will be able to draw a map showing the crescent beach, the dwelling, anything PawCaw finds, etc. But first it is time for sleep.
By the way, in case he did not make it clear, Zeoll welcomes the newcomer minotaur and tries to make him feel at home. That night, around the campfire, Zeoll will tell the stories of the adventures of the Chosen so far.
Zeoll suggests that they set camp and watches. He will take whichever watch Brahmah thinks best.
[OOC to Bob and Carla: Highlight to display spoiler: {You guys don't mind if I advance Zeoll a level of bard in the night? I'll send you an updated PC sheet.}]
Toros Monday June 26th, 2006 10:13:58 PM
"One thing for sure Brawl-er has made the centaurs interesting, each different from each other" smiles Toros, listening to Winter-Glade and Flat-Top.
Getting prepared for the night, he takes the watch as suggested.
DM Bob and Carla Monday June 26th, 2006 11:52:20 PM Brahmah and Zeoll share the information they have gathered from their emissaries with their fellow adventurers. A consensus is reached that the island is inhabited, and the site of a manor house could be reached in about half a day if Paw'caw's route is followed. Rock asks which of his companions is good with a rope, while Flat-Top tries to understand what it might feel like to fly. Winterglade asks for input from his companions, in order that he might plan the direction of his magics for the next day. There is some discussion of circumnavigating the island. Toros has the last word, expressing his admiration of Domi's imagination in blessing the taurs each with their own unique characteristics.
Watches are set, and the small fire tended through the night. In small groups, the taurs debate what course their adventuring should take. There is still water in the skins, but the food is gone. The night is warm, as was the one previous. Tired from the strangeness of walking through the sand, sleep is welcomed and restful. Only Zeoll dreams. Zeoll Highlight to display spoiler: { again, he dreams he is being chased...by something....unseen. The sense of terror is still with him on waking. He throws back the cool sheets, and leaps up from the large soft cushion on which he is sleeping. He hears a sonorous melody, and pushing open the doors of his room, he finds himself on a broad porch. The metal tubes of a wind chime hum and throb as the morning breeze moves through them. It sounds as if there are voices in the melody of the tubes. The bard struggles to understand...and wakes up to hear the low murmurs of his companions as they talk quietly during their watch.}
The tide comes in, and then goes out before the sun rises on the last watch, with the early risers performing their morning rituals. It looks like it is going to be another hot day.
Winterglade Tuesday June 27th, 2006 8:01:54 AM
Is is an hour after dawn when Winterglade puts finishing touches on his newest creation [crafted a Cloak of Comfort]. He stretches. There is a cracking of joints. The centaur looks around at the Chosen, most still asleep.
"To sleep away half of your life... What a sad fate."
"Winterglade will run to the place where we met Rock and back. He needs to refresh his mind." - the centaur explains to the sentry. Then he breaks into a canter from a standing start [standard selection of spells, but Water Walk over MCvE and Inv.Purge].
When he is back he shares the fruits of his night thoughts. "Chimes is good news. Shipwreck survivors don't put chimes on their porches. They don't build porches at all. Whoever lives there is likely to have a way to contact the big islands. Winterglade suggests we pay him/her/it a visit."
Brahmah Tuesday June 27th, 2006 8:06:22 AM
"We should be off soon."
Zeoll Tuesday June 27th, 2006 9:20:11 AM
Zeoll wakes from his dream to see Winterglade working through the night instead of sleeping. "What is his secret?" he wonders.
He relates his dream to his friends. "I drreamt I was sleeping in the Manorr House that the airr elemental and PawCaw saw. I was sleeping on a soft bed. Then in my drream I woke up when I hearrd the sounds of the wind chimes on the porrch. Then I rreally woke up. I have no idea what this means."
But Zeoll is eager to get started. He volunteers to be a flier, he tells Rock, because he has keen eyes, He wonders what it will be like to fly.

Rock Tuesday June 27th, 2006 8:19:14 PM
Rock spent the first two hours of the night sleeping, then prepared spells and then sat watch with Brahmah.
Already ready to go when the early risers awoke, he mentions to Brahmah "I have had my familiar watching from afar, to be sure you folks were who I was looking for. I'd like to call him back, but he's afraid of your eagle. Maybe you can go talk to him before we set out? He's just inside those trees over there. I'll go with you, or you can go alone, if you'd like. His name is Mandragora."
The big minotaur smiles slightly, enjoying the company he's been keeping these last two days, despite the surroundings.
DM Bob and Carla Tuesday June 27th, 2006 11:31:01 PM
Keeping his companions in sight, Flat-Top searches for food at the edge of the jungle. The centaur returns to camp with his small barrel full of small fuzzy green-gold fruit. Inside the sweet green jelly-like flesh is flecked with dark seeds. Having slept well, the party wakes early and refreshed. Zeoll shares his dream, and Winterglade suggests that the 'natives' might be friendly.
On the beach some distance from the party, a black raven pecks at the contents of a shell it has managed to open, while Paw'caw fusses in a tree closer to the group. The eagle ruffles its feathers and makes warning sounds, but does not abandon the small mammal it has caught and is busy dismembering. Rock keeps his eyes on the birds.
Brahmah makes one last study of the rock face. The first pitch is about 80 ft. straight up. Anyone who decides to climb, roll x 8 checks vs DC 15 if climbing vs DC 5 if using a rope and bracing against the wall. If you fail by 5 or more, you fall from the height achieved at the time.)
Though narrow with overgrown foliage, the path leading through the jungle would permit a taur to pass. The group will need to go single file, however. The canopy overhead is sufficiently dense, that anyone (or anything) flying overhead would be hard pressed to spot those on the ground.
The beach is no different than it was the day before, although the tide has come in and gone out again. Those not standing in the shade can already feel the sun's strong rays on their shoulders. It is going to be a very hot day.
Which way to go?
Winterglade Wednesday June 28th, 2006 4:02:15 AM
Winterglade listens to Zeoll's dream with his head tilted to the side. "The meaning of your dream as Winterglade sees it: soft bed is the symbol of the comforts of your home, wind chimes is a symbol of safety and tranquility. It might indicate a deep, suppressed longing to abandon the life of adventure and settle down."
"It also shows that you have spent way too much time among humans and such and you have been influenced by their "culture" to the point that you even dream in their own symbology. Winterglade has told you all before that a city is not a good place for a normal Taur. It messes with your head after a while."
"What now, Captain? The wind chimes, no? Winterglade will walk somewhere at the rear of the party."
Flat -top Wednesday June 28th, 2006 8:13:25 AM
Flat-top emerges from the jungle with his fruits and water skins, "OK! I have breakfast here, they are juicy fruts, good for a hot day!" Flat-top puts the small keg down (so anybody can grab a fruit or two). He look up the clift and the jargered edges of the rock, He tells Brahmah"Captain! Centers Don't Climb Cliffs! I think I'll take the Path!!"
Flat-top will take His place at the end of the marching line (To Protect the Magic Users) or any place Brahmah tell him to be.

Brahmah (Spider Climb) Wednesday June 28th, 2006 3:16:24 PM
Brahmah drinks a potion and starts to scale the wall. (Spider Climb)
He grabs the rope and carries it with him.
Rock Wednesday June 28th, 2006 4:55:04 PM
"That works as well", Rock says, chuckling to himself. "Remember to knot the rope! I'm not so good with climbing!"
Zeoll Wednesday June 28th, 2006 9:26:02 PM
Zeoll looks at the rope with uncertainty. First off, will it bear the weight of a taur? And even if it is knotted, what is the chance of falling to one's doom? [DMs -- what's the climb DC, if knotted? And can we take 10 on the attempt?]
The liontaur says, "I thought we werre flying."
Flat -top Thursday June 29th, 2006 7:30:24 AM
Look up at the jagard edges of the rocks, then adds Zeoll's question! "I'd rather Fly, than climb that skinny rope! that rope will not hold a Center or a weimic!!"
Flat-top stand there with arm cross on his chest.
DM Bob & Carla Thursday June 29th, 2006 8:09:28 AM
Brahmah quickly scrambles up the rock face, the Spider Climbaugmenting his feel for the rock, allowing his otherwise clumsy hooves to find footholds that would have been nearly impossible without the magic. The rest of the taurs await their turn with varying degrees of trepidation, especially the two centaurs who wonder if the rope will hold there considerable weight.
[OOC Flat-Top and Winterglade make an INT check versus DC 12 to know that normal hemp rope will hold approximately 1200 lbs before being stressed and silk rope will hold 1400 lbs. Of course that would be static weight, the effective force of a falling centaur would be much heavier! - also the DC to climb a knotted rope would be DC=5. You can take 10 on the climb check as long as their is nothing else going on to either cause you to hurry or to affect your concentration]
Brahmah (Spider Climb) Thursday June 29th, 2006 10:45:28 AM
As he climbs, Brahmah speaks to Zeoll. "I figured that the fly spell might be of better use for the ones that are unable to climb... like centaurs. You wemic are a little better I thought..." He pauses and smiles at Zeoll. "... you can make it and if you fall, just aim for the Rock below you, he should break the fall nicely."
He stops and thinks again. "Rock... can you reduce anybody today? Might make'em lighter for the climb!"
Toros Thursday June 29th, 2006 11:12:27 AM
It is nice to meet a new member of the group, Mandragora before Toros starts climbing with the others.
"Take it easy, take it easy, it will be fine... Dont look down" Toros assures himself, while climbing.
The wemic will take the long but assured way to climb, taking a 10 on his climb check.
Zeoll Thursday June 29th, 2006 11:29:20 AM
The liontaur laughs and is reassured by Brahmah's words -- and by the solidity of the rope. He smiles and carefully cliumbs up. (Taking 10)
Rock (Spiderclimb) Thursday June 29th, 2006 11:53:25 AM
"Well, I've never seen a silk rope break, but I'll gladly help Flat-Top and Winterglade fly up. It may be advantageous to have you strong blokes up there to help out in case there's trouble. As far as liontaurs, I doubt I've ever seen one over 700 pounds. Here's a novel approach..."
With that, Rock weaves a pattern in the air with his hands, drawing a feather from his belt while doing so. He points the feather at Flat-Top and the Centaur feels himself pulse with magic as he is mysticly imbued with the power of flight and the knowledge of how to do so gracefully. When Rock's movements begin to slow, he draws a wand from his belt and points it at Flat-Top and says an ancient word causing the already large Centaur to grow even larger. The minotaur draws the feather again without hesitation and repeats the flight spell on Winterglade, following it up with the enlarge spell from the wand.
"There, now we have two giant flying Centaurs. I think our feline friends are quite light enough to make the climb, as long as my bulk isn't weighing them down." Then, taking a cue from Brahmah, he draws out and drinks his own Spiderclimb potion, walking forward and making his way up the wall.
Flat -top d20=16 Thursday June 29th, 2006 8:56:19 PM
Flat-top give Captain Brahmah a sour look, "I thought this bull here was supose to make us smaler and lighter?" But to himself 'To think I voted for you to be our leader!!'
But when Flat-tops turn comes around, he find himself holding the rope in one hand to guid himself up, his hoves are ever so light when he touches the rock. "hey! I like this!"

Winterglade Friday June 30th, 2006 4:14:38 AM
Winterglade is chewing peacefully on a fruit from Flat-Top when Rock's spell takes hold.
"Whoawhoawhoa!..." - it takes him a moment to regain his composure. Then, accustomed to the change of perspective, he takes a few test steps.
"Wheee!!"
Realizing that the magic will end soon Winterglade does his best to assist those who use ropes to climb, making sure that he will be at the top of the cliff when the spell starts to fail.
"Flying Taurs! Weren't we talking about that just a moment before? This is great Rock."
Finally, at the top, he takes a deep breath and looks around.
"That was fun. What now? Why did we climb here anyway? And, more importantly, is there a way down that doesn't involve a rope?"
DM Bob & Carla Friday June 30th, 2006 7:49:56 AM
The taurs reach the top of the cliff to discover a large tableland covered in grasses that would tickle the belly of even the largest taur. Sea breezes play across the grasses, bending them over in giant swaths and then releasing them.
From this vantage the Chosen can scan the sea to the northeast and south. A few small islands dot the seascape to the northeast, but to the south is only open water as far as the eye can see.
The grassland sweeps down and away to the northwest where it eventually merges with the darker green of jungle that seems to dominate the centre of the island. Or at least that is what the members of the chosen can discern through their various aerial companions, for it is a very long walk to arrive at the edge of the grass.
Brahmah Friday June 30th, 2006 9:15:59 AM
"I think we goe this way... Pah'caw? Which way to people?" He asks his eagle.
Zeoll Friday June 30th, 2006 3:15:22 PM
Zeoll stands at the top of the cliff and looks at the grasslands. He breathes deeply, and a slow smile spreads across his face until he is grinning.
"This! This, oh my frriends, is home to me! In the Lands of Rrest I saw places that most would judge beautiful, but this! The wind! The grrass! The Wold! When you come to visit Liontaurr Isle, when I lead you past the harrborr wherre tame wemics play at being human merrchants, this is what you will find!"
The liontaur cannot contain himself. For years he has been away. Now he runs at full speed down through the grassland.
"Come on! Come on!" Zeoll shouts, "Come, Chosen of Domi! Be brrave! Rrun with me!" His delight in nature is obvious.
Winterglade Saturday July 1st, 2006 3:46:28 AM
"Yes, yes, now this is more like it." - says Winterglade, when he feels the tickle of the grass on his belly. "It's no Great Plain, but much better than the beach. At least here you get a proper horizon. Char's Temper, where did that fuzball run off to now?"
"Eh, who am I kidding, Winterglade's whole body is itching to taste the wind. Look, it's been days since Winterglade had a proper run. You just make your way at your own pace, and if you need him he'll be somewhere within eyesight."
And off he goes, straight like an arrow, leaving behind a cloud of dust and a trail of trampled grass.
"Through the weaving sea of green Onward! Let the Run begin! Steel your bones and still your mind Death itself is left behind!..."

Thanks to God...

DM Bob & Carla Monday July 3rd, 2006 8:06:26 PM
Brahmah sends his eagle off to locate the habitation discovered earlier and the great bird soars up on the thermals rising from the grassland. It is soon lost to sight.
Zeoll is overcome by joy and with reckless abandon races through the tall grasses. The wemic is followed closely by the two centaurs and the rest of the Chosen. The ground is soft and yielding beneath their feet and the taurs race northwestward as fast as they can. A flock of long-tailed birds burst upward directly in front of Zeoll, scattering in a thunderous flapping of wings.
The grasslands go on, seemingly without end, and soon the taurs are winded by their exertion and must slow to a walk or trot. The edge of the jungle is still distant and Paw'caw has not returned.

"Eww, that's an unsporting way to hunt, Rock. Gotta give'm at least a fighting chance."
"Winterglade sure hopes that getting off this island won't have to involve another ship. He's sick and tired of them, and for good reason too."
"I wonder how far those small islands are. If it's just a few miles it might be possible to run from this one to the next..."
Brahmah Tuesday July 4th, 2006 6:55:31 AM
The ranger is all to aware of dangers and tall grasses. Thats why he hangs back, to wait and see what bad things may occur to the younger Chosen.
He keeps one eye pinned to the Chosen, but can help looking to the sky once or twice.

Then Flat-top see a need for humer, tells Rock "Hey! You killed them! You clean them!"
Flat-top smiles at Rock for his swift reaction.
Zeoll Tuesday July 4th, 2006 8:27:53 AM
The liontaur runs and runs, but at last grows a little weary. Still, it is a good kind of tired, the kind that means your muscles are stretched and your lungs are working.
When Rock brings down the birds, Zeoll's main thought is "Lunch!"
He disagrees with Winterglade. "My frriend, the point of the hunt is to get food. Why tie yourr hands behind yourr back, or shoot with closed eyes? To do less than yourr best is the same as toying with yourr prrey, like the dumb felines do. Humans do not thrrow theirr own feces around, like monkeys do, and wemics do not play with theirr prrey. I think that Rrock has the rright of it."
Then, to take the sting out of his words, Zeoll smiles at Glade and Flat-top and adds, "Besides, you horrsetaurrs and cowtaurrs eat grass, rright? So Rrock was just thinking of me and Torros!"
After dressing the birds (a chore Zeoll is glad to take on), Zeoll is eager to make more progress. "Come on, everybody! Let's go!"
Rock Tuesday July 4th, 2006 3:16:54 PM
Rock smiles a wide smile at being called a cowtaur, displaying sharp obviously carnivorous teeth.
"On the contrary, the minotaurs of my village ate mostly fish, but we, as a people, eat mostly other meats, supplemented by occasional vegetable matter, of course. Since we are living meal to meal, I thought it would be best to take what we could. Forgive me Winterglade, if I lack the tools or means of other hunters. Life in study has, in that way, made me a bit soft." With that, he makes a swift movement, popping the head of one of the birds, tossed aside by Zeoll, into his mouth, biting down with a sickening crunch. The giant minotaur smiles playfully.
Gecktar Tuesday July 4th, 2006 4:50:01 PM
Gecktar followed the group as he can. He is surprised by the way of hunting of Rock. But it proves to be effiocient so... why not...
"How far are we from the traces of civilization ?"
Flat -top Tuesday July 4th, 2006 7:00:19 PM
Tell Winterglade "Remind me never to put my hands in his mouth, Did you see those teeth?"
Toros Tuesday July 4th, 2006 9:24:56 PM
Trying to enjoy the view as long as he can Toros follows the group as the last taur. He gives a laugh to all the continuing talk, even if he does not join in with his words.
Winterglade Wednesday July 5th, 2006 6:32:48 AM
"The point is to hunt for older and weaker, so it is the young and strong that breed."
"Civilization? Whoa, let's not be too hasty in the use of the word. The only <civilization> most two-legs are capable of spends most of its time clad in iron, trying to beat the life out of it's neighbours. Winterglade doesn't know why; maybe it's their way of compensating for lack of speed and grace. Even some Taurs tend to participate; take your average Minotaur, turn him upside down, shake him, and you get enough weapons to arm a squad of heavy infantry."
DM Bob & Carla Wednesday July 5th, 2006 7:58:50 AM
The Chosen pause in their race across the tableland when Rock brings down three of the birds that had burst from the grasses in front of them. On closer inspection they appear to be pheasants and Zeoll turns his paws to cleaning them.
Talk turns to philosophy and the taurs banter back and forth about the carnivorous habits of some minotaurs, the general combatativeness of the humanoids and their strange notions of civilization, and whether it is sporting to use magic to hunt the lesser creatures.
Rock puts an exclamation point on his own comments by severing the head of one of the pheasants with his teeth, while Zeoll is left to contemplate how the taur will loop the now headless bird into his belt.[Shades of Ozzie?]
