Garrett casts a spell and stops falling to the ground, staying just out of the reach of the fey-trolls. Then he moves south towards Nauthiz'Ull.

Toros shifts over the wall and retrieves a potion from where it is stored. Then he gulps the potion down, transforming into an insubstantial form. Then he waits, looking for a knothole to slip through either upstairs or through the wall.
DM Note - Retrieving potion is Move Equivalent, Drinking it another Move Equivalent.
FYI - AC is now calculated as 10 (no roll, inactivated by Gaseous Form) + 3 (WIS) + 6 (DEX) - 1 (size) + 2 (deflection from Shield of Faith) + 4 (shield from Shield) + 4 (armor from Mage Armor) = 28, 29 vs. one specific opponent


Nauthiz'Ull screams imprecations at Gargalus while he struggles futilely.

Appolo watches things happen.

Gargalus hovers, watching as his spells and creations destroy the party. He lifts a staff from somewhere on the chair, shaking it at Garrett.

"You wish to challenge me? Fight me toe-to-toe? If you choose, I shall do so but you will not like the lumps that I give you!"

The Crushing Hand squeezes Nauthiz'Ull once more,

The trolls scurry about. The ones under Garrett follow him, easily keeping pace with the cleric.

The small fey-troll T6 charges after Toros, swingimg it's clawed hand at the insubstantial liontaur.
T6 - misses AC 15

Another fey-troll squeezes its way into the building but cannot attack.

It is an interesting feeling to be insubstantially floating on the air, however Toros does not have time to reflect upon it. He watches as the claws pass through his form without giving any harm, and without losing time the taur starts rising to the second floor.

(double move up to the ceiling and then the wall between the two floors, AC: 28/29 against the first attacker - thanks for the AC information! Still does Total Defense possible at this form I wonder...)

Slipping slowly to a darkened cave the ranger can once again see puffs of his breath. The cool cave is much different than the warm clearing in which he was just at. The cave is coated with ice; iced walls and outcroppings, frozen stalactites and the likes hold it, frozen in time, forever. He waits for a moment, wondering where in Celsiun's realm is Garrett. Obviously Nauth has returned home but a foggy mind will not surface the reason at why he would not be by his wunjo's side.

Drifting about through this cave the ranger with eyes like the ulf notice that he leaves not a footprint. trackless...perfect Nauth nods approvingly as he has heard of ranger's with so much skill that they too can walk without leaving a trail. His mind wanders some more as he wipes a fine powder of snow off of one of the frosted walls. Glyphs and runes appear beneath the snow, they are in the form of High Woldian.

There are numerous reasons that can explain what Nauth feels next but none make any sense. His body feels cold, really cold; a state of being that has not been felt for many years. As if that were not enough, something catches his attention from the corner of his eye. There is a great wall of ice with some form or raised platform or pedestal or something before him, sticking out from that wall is a dagger.

Garrett looks at the life slowly disappearing from his longtime friend, and prays that he is not too late.

Garrett yells back to Gargalus "We did not wish to fight you, you forced that choice upon us. Let my friends go, and I will fight your minions, as many as you wish to send. And I will fight them to the death if need be. I am more than a match for these fools, as they have yet to even scratch me. Let my friends go, they can do you no harm now, and are no challenge for your monstrosities. I will let you test your creations out on me, and send them back to the netherworld they came from."

(Just checking, but did you move me my max last round, it looks like I am 1 square short of where I should be from the previous map.)

Garrett moves 20' toward Nauthiz'Ull, and if with reach, converts his invisibility purge to a CSW. Healing Nauth for 27hp.

If I was able to reach Nauth and heal him, "Not yet wunjo. You have work to do in this world yet. Besides, where would I be without you?"

If unable to reach Nauth, "Damnit Gargalus, if he dies, then you will have to kill me also, because nothing will stop me from coming after you, save death. And even then, you might find a very nasty spirit looking to pay you back."

Toros floats upwards through the ceiling and into the upper floor of the barracks. The two fey-trolls attack him as he moves but both miss. The second came close, though.

Gargalus watches and yawns. Then he starts stretching his neck and arms.

"Boring! You're boring, all of you!"

He directs the flying chair towards the ground and then steps to the ground, all the while clutching the staff.

"Last chance! Acknowledge me as your master or I'll beat some sense into you!"

The Crushing Hand squeezes Nauthiz'Ull once more.

The fey-trolls near Garrett and Nauthiz'Ull move forward but still cannot reach the pair.

The other fey-trolls move around the barracks searching for a way to get at Toros.

Toros squeezed his gaseous body onto the roof of the building. He now has a good view of the entire compound, including where Gargalus stands.

Garrett heals the unresponsive Nauthiz'Ull once more while shouting defiance at Gargalus.

Appolo looks upwards in a mixture of horror and disgust. To end this way, lying helpless in the mud.

Then the future god makes a gesture and casts a spell. Suddenly he is the same size that Garrett was just a short while before.

Release me from your trickery Gargalus! and feel the bite of Ull'Heimdall!

Spit flies from Nauth's mouth as his eyes begin to pulse in red, blood-shot anger. His whole world is coming down around him and he cannot even die firing a shot at his foe. His master has betrayed him and has shown that the divine have their own agenda; they care nothing for mortal souls.

Domi will now have my prayers whence I return to my real body Gargalus! Your main counterpoint has just grown that much stronger and you have lost a valuable agent. You know not what I speak of yet but rest assured that you will know it in the future!

Nauth does everything possible to tear his way free of the spell (including burning any hero points as dramatic effect) and if he does come free will begin drawing arrow to bowstring.

"Wunjo, we will reunite soon enough, take that damned selfish demigod out!"

Up at roof level, Toros keeps moving south towards the entrance.

Garrett charges towards Gargalus, allowing the enlarged villain to swing at him. Gargalus swing his staff in both hands and hits the Protector hard.
Gargalus AoO - hits AC 36, 15 damage

Garrett attempts to break the staff held by Garaglus but fails to do so.
DM Note - This is a Sunder attempt, so I'm using those rules.

Sunder attack = 27 - 4 (non-proficiency) = 23
Gargalus Sunder DC = 10 + 17 (Attack modifiers) + 4 (two-handed) + 4 (large) = 35


Nauthiz'Ull squirms like a worm in the grasp of his future master's spell.

Gargalus steps back 5 feet and casts a spell. He appears visibly faster afterwards. Then he whistles for the fey-trolls while reaching for a potion from his belt pouch.

Again there is a great force squeezing the life out of Nauth like a lemon. Again he finds himself in the cold cave but this time the item in the wall is visible and in great focus; in fact, everything else is out of focus. He walks towards the item, a dagger, and frozen tear drops tink off of the ice floor.

Emotions swim through the ranger's heart as he grows steadily closer; emotions that are somewhat foreign to him.

love...home...security...confidence

He tries to call out but two things happen; first, he has no control over what he is saying; second, nothing is audibly produced. Instead he hears a voice so sweet and so loving that his next step finds his knee driving into the flooring with enough force to crack the ice around it. Tears stream faster than before and leave a frozen trail down his cheeks; the tiniest of icecicles begin to form along the corners of his chin.

Appolo watches helplessly. Maybe he will be able to act soon.

Garrett steps forward and swings at Gargalus but misses both times. Even if he did hit, the weapon passes harmlessly through the future deity.

Toros floats further south. And Nauthiz'Ull is simply disabled so that if he chooses to act, he will become disabled.

Gargalus swings once at Garrett, hitting the Protector hard once more. Then he gestures and the hand crushing Nauthiz'Ull moves somewhere else.

The three fey-trolls move ahead to attack Garrett once more. One manages to hit the Protector but the other two cannot connect.

Again Nauth finds himself being ripped away from the iced cave...but the dagger was so close. The cave races away from him as he flies backwards out of this surreal episode.

Blinking violently for a second Nauth begins to feel the warmth of Garrett's and Domi's magic wash over him. His eyes take in the scene as fast as the startled ulf. He waits for Garrett's intentions, then acts.

Garrett steps ahead and heals the ailing Nauthiz'Ull. He manages to avoid any attacks from Gargalus or the fey-trolls while doing so.

Nauthiz'Ull elects to fire arrows at Gargalus rather than heeding the advice of his wunjo. Only one of his arrows, the most carefully aimed, manages to strike his future deity. Even that arrow doesn't faze Gargalus and it is only the fire damage that affects him. Still, it does draw a menacing glower from Gargalus.
DM Note - It's only 2d10 on a critical, since the multiplier for the bow is X3.

Since Nauthiz'Ull is floating above the reach of the fey-trolls, they cannot attack him.

Toros keeps floating away.

Gargalus snorts at Nauthiz'Ull's feeble attempt at archery.

"You're making a pest of yourself, up there!"

With that, he gestures and a spell washes over Nauthiz'Ull, stripping away his magics.

The fey-trolls attack Garrett, figuring the Protector as the target desired by their master. Of all of the attacks, only one hits but it is a solid strike.

Garrett converts his last 5th level spell into a cure critical (concentration check 26)and heals Nauthiz'Ull for 35 hp.

Garrett says to Nauth as he heals him. "There is no time Wunjo. We cannot defeat him, and you know that. Get Appolo and get out of here. I will give you as long as I can. If you don't go now, we all die. I go to Domi, and am proud to do so. Finish the mission and save the Wold."

Floating downward Nauth takes the chance to rip another round of shots off at T4 before landing next to the trollish brute. All four arrows seem to land true; they leave a trail of smoke as the tips ignite in mid flight.

Garrett moves closer to heal Nauthiz'Ull as the ranger floats to the ground. The wounds on the ranger close, leaving him only mildly wounded.
Nauthiz'Ull should have 57 hps after this

Appolo finally breaks free of the spell holding him and he acts immediately. He fires an arrow at Garaglus but watches it sail wide.

Toros floats upwards to escape the fey-trolls but each is able to attack him as he does so. One manages a very good strike but doesn't actually do any damage. Then he drifts slightly with the wind.
T8 - claw misses AC 12
T9 - claw hits AC 29 (threat), not confirmed AC 20, 7 damage (completely absorbed by DR 10/magic ... not considering fey-trolls natural weapons to bypass this DR
Wind is light, from the Northwest.


Nauthiz'Ull ignores the threat of the fey-trolls and fires his bow four times at one of them. He hits with all four shots, inflicting much damage on the fey-troll. In turn, however, the fey-trolls attack the ranger.

There is nothing but the icy look of sheer determination on the face of the ranger. His eyes are focused, seemingly, but the expression is quickly betrayed for what it truly is....worry.

His wunjo stands next to him and that comforts the arctic man yet he cannot seem to shake the sense of impending doom; his shot accuracy is proof enough of the distraction.

Temporary holding post. Touch it at your peril.

Apoll fires three arrows at the nearest fey-troll (T4), hitting all three times. However, only one of the arrows penetrates the fey-troll's tough hide.

Garrett heals himself, making a heroic effort to avoid attacks from Gargalus and the fey-trolls.

Nauthiz'Ull fires at fey-troll T4 but must have been badly shaken by the pervious attacks. He only hits once, scorching the creature slightly. Then the fey-trolls attack the ranger, ripping the ranger to shreds and leaving him a bloody ruin on the ground.
DM Note - Nauthiz'Ull took 28 points of damage last round, leaving him with 29 hps.
T2 - claw hits AC 25, 11 damage
T3 - claw hits AC 22, 10 damage
T4 - claw hits AC 23, 9 damage


And Toros keeps floating with the wind.

I must be tough...

This quick thought races through Nauth's mind as he watches the fey rip and bite and slice through him again and again, yet this time he feels no pain.

Then he blinks...

His body is washed over with the absolute greatest feeling; a slight cool that starts in his core and works outwards, leaving his fingertips and toes still warm. A cool like the 'summer' mornings of the Vein when he woke early to stretch and track the outside of the village.

He opens his eyes and can see his breath, a comforting sight indeed but beyond that his eyes have yet to adjust tot he glimmering light.

Shifting his weight he hears the sound of crunching snow and icepack which tells him he is home.

A faint smile is growing as he allows his eyes to adjust to the light.

Gargalus turns and casts a spell at Toros. The liontaur feels the magics surrounding hi fail and he begins floating downwards. Then he steps closer to Nauthiz'Ull.

The two fey-trolls still standing around Appolo attack the pirate. The first one smashes his claw through Appolo's defenses and nearly disembowel him. The second hits the rogue twice.

Appolo sprints away from the fey-trolls, exposing his back to one of them. It almost catches the rogue but he can sprint away.

DM Question - did you intend to: a) make a double move running, not bothering with Hide and Move Silent; b) make a single move running, then Hide and Move Silent; or, c) move at half or normal speed, not running, while Hiding and Moving Silently? Appolo is placed as if b) was chosen - moved 150', then hidden and silent.

Toros drops to the ground, trying to fold himself into the shadows that are here. He manages to hide, somewhat, but he is as silent as a falling leaf.

Garrett was stabilized by whatever wand Gargalus used. Nauthiz'Ull is still bleeding out.

Gargalus reaches down with the wand and taps Nauthiz'Ull. Then he moves off to the south, tucking the wand away as he goes and wielding his staff in both hands again.

The fey-trolls that were attacking Appolo chase after him.

The fey-trolls surrounding the fallen Toros try to locate the hiding liontaur. The first makes a great SNIFF and then claws at Toros.
T1 - Spot = 7 (nat 1), vs. Hide of 17; Move action to pinpoint using Scent; Claw misses AC 11

The second manages to see where the liontaur is and unleashes a furious assault. Well, it manages to hit even though it doesn't do much damage.

The third fey-troll also manages to spot the liontaur and launches a similar attack.

Sorry, last round I have meant to move with total defense, thus only T6's Claw #2 hits (AC 26, 7 damage), doesn't it? (Toros AC was 24 with total defense last round, and no rendering damage applies unless both of the claw attacks are successful) Besides, Toros would use his luck points for a better hide check, as he is large in size now.

AC roll is 11. So this turn the total AC is 26. Also +4 to AC for Mobility.

The animated item heals the wounds of Toros (13 hp),while Wardd continues to back him, which give him a chance to escape from the attack of Trolls. In total defense the taur double-moves, trying to leave some space between the trolls and himself, and reach to the compound entrance and then go out of the walls. If he can reach outside he will try to hide once again. (with luck points hide 25, move silently 33)

Everything begins to focus in; the light hurts his eyes no more and the scene is the same, ice covered walls, snow on the ground and High Woldian glyphs dancing about on the ice's surface.

There is a faint voice beconing him to come closer to the object imbedded into the wall. Something flashes across the surface next to it...a woman's face perhaps. The image, although fleeting as it was, fills the seasoned ranger with a sense of love, home, warmth and closure; maybe his time has come?

He reaches out to touch the object, a dagger, but his hand wafts through it; it is not substantial. he tries again, panic rising and whispers a name through a choked throat..

"Frigga..."

Toros squeals in frustration as the fey-trolls claws rip into his hide and cause grievous wounds. He should have concentrated on protecting himself but did not think to do so. But he realizes his error as his intelligent periapt casts a healing spell. Then he tries to run away from the compound. But the fey-trolls now block the entrance so he has to climb the wall.
T1 AoO - misses AC 21
T6 AoO - AC 24, 9 damage if that hits
T7 AoO - AC 27, 12 damage if that hits

DM Note - If you wanted total defense, you should have indicated that.
- Please review your character sheet since the copy I have has your armor modifier as only +9 (+6 dex, +3 wis, +1 natural, -1 size) and Dodge only takes that to +10 vs. one opponent.
- Finally, that character sheet shows the intelligent item as a periapt.
- I rolled a '1' for climb, but felt that Toros should be able to make it over the wall.


Appolo runs for the wall.

Garrett and Nauthiz'Ull are both stabilized.

OOC: I had mentioned Total Defense, however you are right that when you read what I had written, the total defense seems to be tied to a condition, which has not worked well.
And the AC is true. And thanks for the Climb check. with total defense only T7 hits, 12 hp damage.

While his periapt heals him for one last time (14 hp) Toros just tries to hide and get rid of his opponents. (AC check: 35 (18 d20 + 9 AC +1 dodge + 6 total defense, double movement), hide 35 with luck points, 24 move silently)
The taur will lead to the Sout-East to reach where they have left the forest with Garrett.

Toros and Appolo both manage to scale the wall and escape the compound and the opponents that took the lives of their companions. Now the problem is to collect their wits and head back to Oshirr House. Hopefully the lives of Garrett and Nauthiz'Ull bought Xenia the time needed to elude any pursuers.

And pursuit there certainly is. When Gargalus sees them heading across the grass to the trees, he shouts to his fey-trolls. The pack of created creatures spews from the compound and begins hunting the two escapees. Seeing this, Appolo and Toros have no choice but to run. They've seen what happens when someone tries to stand and fight a pack of these things. Turning tail, they start running towards Oshirr House.

Ahead of them, Xenia suddenly hears the hooting calls of trolls on the hunt. She thinks that she knows what this means ... her companions have escaped. But there's nothing for her to do but to run. And keep running until she reaches Oshirr House.

Back inside the compound, Nauthiz'Ull and Garrett are only dimly aware of their surroundings. Each of them is picked up and carried into the lair of the future evil god. Who knows what unspeakable horrors their unconcious bodies might be subjected to.

He walks around in a tight cirle, pacing actually, staring at the dagger and wishing until his brain hurts that Frigga would be there.

She is here, I know it; Ull'Heimdall will be close at hand. I am heading to my family; to my new home.

A sudden panic hits the ranger as he begins whipping about looks to and fro for his fellow metal clad Protector of Domi. Why isn't he here? Did he make it out okay?

Appolo quickly realizes that it's useless to try hiding from the fey-trolls. The things can smell his path and unless he can keep far enough ahead of them, he will have no chance to try to throw them from his trail. But this is where his conditioning comes in ... it's time to run.

Toros quickly joins up with the rogue and the two run down the trail. Maybe, just maybe, they'll encounter a patrol from Oshirr House and elude their pursuers.

Ahead of them on the trail, Xenia keeps running. It seems like forever but Thora and Dreana start to look more relaxed. The fire-haired rogue now realizes that they are only minutes, certainly less than half an hour, from Oshirr House.
