Valdor Wednesday June 28th, 2006 10:48:20 AM
Valdor looks at Dahlia and asks,"When you saw that silver in the vision, I didn't. You said it was small. Was it possibly Shenlong's size? Or was she much bigger? Any distiguishing characteristics to the silver that you saw?"
Valdor seems annoyed. He thinks to himself,'She wallows in self pity, then gets indignant when I try to pull her out of it. Oh well, she is a dragon and they think a little different than we do. If I got her mad enough, maybe she'll get over her fears...'
He mentions to Nick,"I don't think that orcs on horseback is our goal, but the banner he carried sure ly is."
Lastly, he turns to Sturdevant and asks,"As old and powerful as she is, Why is she really so unnerved by all of this? And why are you?You two should be a match against any two dragons on the Wold, I would think."
Ve Mundr Wednesday June 28th, 2006 4:35:26 PM
Ve listens Shenlong Zhi and dares to add his thoughts, "I respectively submit that a support mechanism can exist without knowing it. A dragon of such power that has completely gone unnoticed until now might be capable of decieving another. And so could receive support from a good dragon with the dragon knowing.
The dragons then depart and Ve nods towards Father Nick, "My preference is not entirely important Nicholas. As such, The Temple of Light would an honor to pray within." the cleric's jaw clenches for a moment and he says nothing further. With a half bow he motions for Father Nick to lead the way.

Cori has since slipped out and has found herself back at the Guild. She moves inside after taking her Star Mage Guild seal out and lets the medallion hand loose around her next. She heads for the library and stops near one of the assistants. "I need information of any kind about a banner." Closing her eyes she concentrates upon the image of the banner and uses a simple spell...as she passes one hand over the other a replica of the banner appears. Even though it is rather rough she figures it should be good enough to give an idea of what is being looked for. "Anything that can be found to deal with this...I need it as soon as possible." Then she begins to search her own memory for something even really small. She has been through this library many times as an apprentice herself and she knows it rather well.
Later she will retire to her real home in the city and seek out the rose gardens. This is the place that she feels the most alive and she settles upon the ground as she goes over the spell she is about to cast. She lays out a small map of the Wold upon the ground before her and then prepares the spell needed. Upon completion she lets the last words of power slip from her lips and the magical arrow to skim across the map.

Nick Thursday June 29th, 2006 12:13:35 AM
Nick nods at Valdor. "I'll see what I can see, and let us hope that both Alemi and Domi are forthcoming on the subject of this evening. By your leave then, both Ve and myself will head across the river for the Cathedral? Do we reconvene back at the castle?"
Assuming Valdor gives the okay, Nick bows to Sturtavent. "My thanks for your gracious hospitality this evening, Mayor, and we will do our utmost to get to the bottom of these mysteries."
Walking along the embankment next to the river, in order to reach the bridge that will take them to the Alemi temple, Nick asks Ve - "So, what did you think about all that?"
DM Jan Thursday June 29th, 2006 1:41:20 AM
"It isn't the dragons that have her nervous," Sturtavent answers Valdor, "it's the Gods. I suspect that she feels that a dragon war here - no matter how small, may very well reawaken their interest and bring down their wrath. I'm afraid that after the nasty incident at Dragon Bay, she has a rather dim view of our various deities. Some would probably call it blasphemy." He shrugs "I happen to think that her advice is not completely the rantings of an old lady. I think we would be wise to take her warnings of treading carefully, seriously." "The Wold changes, Valdor, at a frightening pace, and ah - listen to me." He breaks into a grin. "Give me your council, Dragonstone - how do we approach this? And what of this other dragon, mentioned by Dahlia and the Domi Protector? Does this mean we have three dragons to worry about?"
Dahlia's introspection raises slight feelings of nausea, but in the midst of it, her recollection of the silver dragon brings forth the following - a much smaller size than that of the black dragon - actual size? or seen from a distance? - the scales seemed smooth and pale, suggesting youth.
Outside the castle, Cori, Nick and Ve become aware of the retreating fog as they move toward their various destinations, and in minutes, the sky is clear, the air dry, and lights from across the river dance on the water.
At the Star Tower, the library assistant chews his bottom lip while looking at the image of the banner. "Hmmm....weelllll... not something I've seen before. A simple design, however, and these tend to be the oldest on record, so I would hazard a guess at this being either ancient - OR - belonging to someone with a distinct lack of pretention. If you check the heraldry records you can see how generations have tried to outdo their ancestors, with every frill, whistle and bell added to their colours."
In a far corner of the library, next to "Land Rights" "Realm Boundary Changes after the Cataclysm" and other such fascinating tomes - there are 7 large volumes on heraldry that proclaim that they record every single banner, crest and coat of arms in the known Wold. The banner design isn't in any of the books, and it will be morning by the time Cori discovers this. When she finally settles in her rose garden, her discern location spell draws her in, taking up all her attention. (Spell result pending. Trying to keep you guys on the same time line, lol)
Ve Mundr Thursday June 29th, 2006 4:30:21 PM
Ve follows Father Nicholas out and then takes pace to walk beside him. Soon enough outside and then under a clearing night sky as the Silver dragon and the magical concealing fog and clouds depart. "What do I make of it all?"
Ve walks a few more feet in silence collecting his thoughts before answering. "My dear friend, my take is that the dragons are scared to do anything directly because of the great disease. At least the ones with concern for life and the well being of thier fellows. Which would be a handsome benefit were you an eveil dragon or evil being in general with grand designs against them. You could be moving at them one at a time, step by step and could accurately count on a solitary defense. To not risk the god's intervention they subject themselves to slow extermination."
Ve walks on for a bit, "Yes Marteus and Gargul carried out magnificant and effective plan against the forces of good. It now stands even more upon us and..." he stops again and his face purses and his brow furrows. Ve then seems to push on with the thought, "and that is more the reason why we can not sit back whistling while evil gathers itself to its utmost before thinking of the bother to strike it down. If the graveyard was overflowing with vampires we would not wait for all the villagers to die before eradicating them for fear something taking thier place. We simply would." Ve looks Nicholas hard in the face, making sure his fellow cleric understood precisely where Ve's moral compass pointed him.
Dahlia Thursday June 29th, 2006 5:13:35 PM
an uncontrolable shiver runs down The halflings back as she struggles to remember details of what she saw.
Valodr I don't believe it is Shen, unless this vision was showing the past. The silver I saw was either quite a bit smaller than the black or it was in the distance, but It also seemed to be quite young.
Also it might be a coincidence but the other night while I was out an old hag threw some bones for me and I had another vision of a dragon that night as well. It started out with the "pit" and then there was water. Deep water. Dark skin and long white hair, submerged and caught in a dragon's jaws. Death, and the glimmer of a communication ring.
Corialote and Amarth Thursday June 29th, 2006 10:49:26 PM
Cori cannot believe her luck to find nothing at all in the library, but then again the banner maybe new heraldry. She paces through her house at a fair clip and moves to the garden. "See if spells tell me anything else." She peeks out of the side of her left eye at Amarth. "What do you think my friend?" She is not sure if the raven will have anything to add but she asked anyways. The raven shrugs his wings, a habit he picked up from his Mistress, and yawns. "The library is the completest that I know of Mistress...I do hate dead ends though." He flexes his wings as he takes off and soars the little ways to one of the many rose bushes. Settling in he waits and watches his Mistress for signs of trouble.
Deciding to concentrate on the banner first she lays out a map upon the ground before her. Words spill from her mouth as she breathes in the fragrances of her garden. They serve to calm her and focus her mind. With the intonation of the last words of power, she plays her hands over the the map and watches as the magic takes hold. All of her focus and concentration is on the map as she waits for something to happen...even if it is nothing at all.
Once done with that she takes a few minutes of rest and sips a little water as she prepares herself for the next round of spell casting. Her tummy growls but she pushes that to the back of her thoughts. No I have other things to take care of first...food can wait. Then she is trying to locate the half-orc, which is truely harder than a banner.

Valdor Friday June 30th, 2006 12:50:48 AM
Valdor nods to Nick and smiles. He says,"Don't work yourself too hard, Nick. Your body seems to have aged, and things that you could previously do easily, may not be so simple now."
He turns to Sturdevant and says,"My council? I would just as soon go find the orc, determine its role in this, kill it, if necessary. Go kill Parnoth while he thinks we're still on his side. Then search out this black dragon and kill him. Of course, that sounds really simple, and I really have no desire to just go kill someone or something.
But, we need to find out about this black dragon. If it's bigger than you, and has something to do with the pit, it will be nigh impossible to slay. That pit creature also was involved with Woldsblood, in some manner, I believe. If so, this new dragon may well be beyond us.
I doubt the gods will get involved again with dragon affairs for a long time. They probably felt threatened since there were so many. They probably felt as though, if all dragons ever could come together for one purpose, and that purpose was against the Gods, then they would have had a real battle on their hands. Now that so many are dead, and Gargul and Marteaus aren't able to hide behind a war, I doubt seriously that they would get involved.
I think a visit Gareth and Onrad is in order."
Nick Friday June 30th, 2006 2:03:02 AM
"That's an interesting thought, about the dragons," says Nick as they approach the bridge. "Sturtavent and Shenlong hold back, while their chromatic counterparts carry on regardless - consciously or unconsciously. Either way, as you say, they have the advantage. I have to admit, when I saw Parnoth in that reading, my immediate thought was that he wouldn't dare to rise up against Sturtavent, but then you have to wonder - what would it take to embolden him? He's a sly one for sure. "As for taking a stand against evil," he sighs, lowering his shoulders, "I've been praying for guidance about that a lot, lately. It used to be all so straight forward and simple, and now... every day is laced with ambiguity. Take this last few days - Parnoth as an ally, and Korrig? I suspect the Wold would have been better off if we had let Dahlia strangle him, then and there, in Osto. And then if I start thinking of the consequences of various actions... I tell you, Ve - I'm profoundly thankful that I can get down on my knees and pray to Alemi. "At the end of the day, our Gods give us their powers to use for good, and there will be times when we must strike hard, and strike true. Otherwise, what use are we?"
He pulls his cloak a little tighter, feeling the chill in the air, more than he used to. At the Cathedral of Light, he'll introduce, and re-introduce the Protector, and make sure he's given somewhere peaceful to pray and cast his divinations. "So, my friend - how shall we do this. Do we split the questions - present Domi with the black dragon and the orc, and Alemi the Floating City and the silver dragon? Now what have I missed?"
DM Jan Friday June 30th, 2006 2:10:00 AM
"I'm sure you're right about the Gods," Sturtavent says to Valdor, Mordrid and Dahlia. "It's hard for me to think objectively on that subject. Even harder for Shenlong Zhi. I suspect she feels more than most. So, I'm all for a bit of action. I think I'll go and see what our friend Korrig knows. " At this point, Valdora has wandered over to the window and is looking out over the city which is now completely visible.
Father Nicholas's stature within the Alemi cleric community is such that both he and Ve Mundr are given everything they need, straight away, no questions asked.
At some point in the hours further ahead, in a sea of deep concentration, both Amarth and Cori reach a similar conclusion. For Amarth, it is the shape of the mountain on the banner, and involves a flight, up and out of the lush, wayward Blackbird Forest, east across the Peasblossom River, and over bleak, high ground. The mountian looms malevolently. There is death here - food for a carrion eater, plenty of bones to pick at, although all seems quiet these days, and on Mount Bone's lower slopes, narrow fingers of vegetation - grass, weeds - are beginning to grow. As for Cori, her mind begins to focus on a particular point, below Parnoth's Emerald Kingdom, above and to the east of the renegade Dirt City, east of Mount Bone, in countryside shunned by travelers throughout the entire peninsula. The barrens of Izen.
Ve Mundr Friday June 30th, 2006 5:59:36 PM
Ve listens to Nicholas and finds himself nodding, "Personally I felt the entire Parnoth issue a mistake. I do understand the immediate benefit. His death releases the hordes of creatures, but I also find myself weighing that immediate devastation with the longer ranged devastation that Parnoth can inflict by surviving." He gives a waned smile, "A debate I do not like to have with myself, I find I always lose. Yes i find I too am profoundly thankful in the same way."
Ve is polite to every acolyte and cleric he meets and soon enough they have what they need. Ve moves about the room they are in and starts making small adjustments to the little things. He closes his eyes and inhales deeply as if breathing in the room itself. Shortly his eyes slowly open and he addresses father Nick. "Nicholas, I was inclined to think we pursue the same information, each asking essentially the same questions. Hearing your split though, I find my mind changed."
Ve purses his lips in though and rolls up on the toes of his feet. "Let's see, black dragon and Parnoth seeking a joint dominion over the Gold. Supporting the Black is a young silver dragon, likely being duped. On the fringe about this main struggle is us, the orc rider with a Banner, in Izen I believe the mayor said, and the Floating City."
"So yes I will ask on the black dragon, the orc, the banner and Parnoth. You take us the Floating City, the Mayor and the silver."
Ve will then find a small spot facing the wall, unroll is magic Carpet with teh great High Woldian symbol of Domi on it and kneel. Moving through the more ritualistic prayers, Ve begins stripping arms and armo at various and obviously predefined points within those prayers. Settling his mind, body and spirit to create as open and peaceful channel as he can with Domi.
Corialote and Amarth Friday June 30th, 2006 11:16:51 PM
Cori looks to Amarth as the spells are cast and then shakes her head. "We are in agreement then my friend...the barrens of Izen and Mount Bone." Closing her eyes she thinks back on what she saw and what she experienced during her spell. "We will have to check the library again for information on Mount Bone...I believe that the others will be knowledgable enough about Izen and the barrens. But the real question would be...does the orc emminate from the barrens and the banner from something in Mount Bone or the other way around?" Slowly standing and trying to get the stiffness out of her legs she shakes herself.
Amarth flies from his perch to land lightly upon her left shoulder. "We will go to our new home and see the other Dragons." With a little bit of a heaviness to her steps she slips out of her house and moves to her newest home. Knocking lightly on the door she will wait for someone to come and answer the door...she needs to inquire about who is around anyways.
Valdor Sunday July 2nd, 2006 2:51:11 PM
After the dinner and visit, Valdor, a little stressed, takes his daughter's arm and heads back to the castle. He makes sure everyone who is left doesn't get left behind. He tells his daughter, I will have to make a quick visit to Floating City in the morning. You are most welcome to visit the town and go shopping. I will send the twins, or at least one of them, with you. You must stay where they can watch over you. After you know the town and have a bit more skill woth a weapon, I won't be nervous about you going out by yourself. However, there will be those who will find out you are my daughter and think they can get a big ransom by kidnapping you. We don't need to go through that again, eh? Please don't run off and leave them."
Once they get back, he heads to the kitchen and gets a large mug of ale and just sits in the war room, looking at the map of the Wold that's on the wall, trying to remind himself of the layout of the Mount Bone area, from before and after the war.
When he hears the knock at the door, he goes to answer it, waving the hired help away to let them continue their jobs. When he sees Cori, he says,"My dear, this is also your home now. You needn't knock as though you are a visitor. Also, though I fear it's not much, I know you like gardens and have an area out back that's been cleared for you. Tell any of the hired hands what tools or seeds, or fertilizers, or whatever you need, and you can begin a garden here. Whatever you require will be yours. I hope this makes you feel better about staying here...and know that you are not alone here, unless you wish to be.
I haven't really thanked you all for helping me find and return my daughter, but...(he coughs lightly, as though trying not to get choked up)...I really do appreciate it. She means everything to me."
Even though he knows Cori to be a bit distant, he gives her a big hug and kisses her forehead. He sets her down and then heads back to the warroom. As he's entering the room she hears faintly,"Dang she has nice abs."
Dahlia Monday July 3rd, 2006 8:29:46 AM
Once back at the castle, Dahlia quietly approaches Nicholas.
"Nick, I am worried about you and what effects that thing had on you. Have you checked to see if there was a curse or something cast on you that you need to have removed? Maybe you should go to the temple and have them check you over?" I would hate to lose you after we have returned safely."
Nick Monday July 3rd, 2006 2:16:26 PM
Nick nods in agreement with Ve Mundr, and while the other prepares, he lights sticks of incense, and sets alight two bowls of herbs - one for health (Alemi), one for strength (Domi), then settles down in his own corner and begins to meditate.
He'll cast three divinations, laying out what they have been given from the dragon's prophecy, and then ask for greater insight into Sturtavent's, the Floating City's, and the silver dragon's influence on what will come to pass.
Conversation with Dahlia pending for when he gets back to the castle.
DM Jan Monday July 3rd, 2006 8:49:02 PM
Dawn, the following morning -
The Mayor's castle - Korrig retches one more time, and then pauses in an attempt to get his breath back. Gods, hopefully that was the last of it. He's on his hands and knees and is wringing with sweat, after a night trying to stubbornly fend off Sturtavent's enchantment spells. The scaly headed creep didn't even come into the room. Didn't have to.
Slowly, the assassin gets to his feet and reaches for a two-thirds empty pitcher of water. Exhausted, he swallows, and replaces the pitcher on the table with much deliberation. Don't spill it. That's your last till the midday bell. Another two steps and he collapses onto his cot, his legs and arms curled, almost fetally, his breath short. What did I tell him? What did I manage to keep back? Ah, may Gargul tear you asunder, you mangy lizard. He finds himself coughing out a laugh that burns his raw throat. Pity my head's still scrambled, you giant oaf. I'll be surprized if you got any sense out of me In the relative gloom of the cell, his eyes focus on the table by the wall, stacked with scribbled on pieces of parchment; memory fragments, all written down. All he had to do was put them in the right order. When I get my mind back you'll all pay for this. He tries to get some rest, but that rest is a long time coming.
Gold Dragon Castle - Dawn light edges over the battlements and in through slits between the curtains in the war room. The empty pitcher of ale has been quietly replaced by water, and Valdor may have noted at some point in the very early morning, while it was still dark, that the castle staff had awakened and quietly begun their daily duties. By the time Cori arrives, the kitchen cockerel is at full throttle, calling out his noisy dawn chorus, and the smell of breakfast is beginning to curl up the stairs toward Mordrid's, Dahlia's and Valdora's rooms.
Izen remains in the Dragonstone's mind - bordered by Aisildur and the Peaseblossom river in the west (Sirrius had mentioned a horsebreeder on the banks of the Peaseblossom), and the beginnings of the Ellenian Plateaus in the east. Directly north was Parnoth's kingdom and above that - Culverwood, and to the south - the sea. The only city - Dirt City on the southern coast, with Mount Bone to the distant north west of it. As for the rest - a fairly inhospitable landscape that would be hard to scratch a living off. Before the YOA, this land had been Marteaus's territory, and evil creatures of all kinds had roamed within its boundaries. In recent times Valdor had cause to go into this land twice. For the battle on the outskirts of Dirt City, against foul creatures and bells that brought death when they tolled, and to rescue Parnoth from the evil necromancers that lived in Mount Bone itself. There were probably other memories, more long-term, also. Of course now Marteaus was gone - fully ascended to Godhood, which perhaps left the question as to what had become of all his evil minions. Many of them had died in the YOA, but still...
In amongst all this are his daughter's pleas, the ones jumbled in with all her questions about what had happened this last evening - like please Daddy she didn't really want to go shopping - what she really wanted to do was to have the twins teach her to fight - fight with a sword, or two swords, and maybe some knives, and then perhaps she could get some crossbow lessons from Dahlia. The girl had been on a high adrenalin rush as she ascended the stairs to bed and it was doubtful that she would get any sleep.
Cathedral of Light - In the corridor outside the divination room, traffic has been unusually high throughout the night, as curious clerics, acolytes and members of staff have wandered past, occasionally gathering in small groups, whispering at what could be going on as the powerful auras of both Alemi and Domi had drifted underneath the closed door, borne on tendrils of incense smoke.
Cocks crowing and the smells of breakfast are not unique to Gold Dragon Castle, and both clerics are greeted with those two sensations as they finish a long night of divinations and exit the room. Neither will have had much chance to sleep. With his current handicap of age, Father Nicholas in particular will feel very tired. And the results of the divinations?
(Daniel, did you want to ask anything in particular that isn't answered below? Let me know and I'll add it on in the next post.)
Black Dragon - the blood of a dark elf is on his claws. He divides and conquers.
Orc and banner - anger at what has been stolen, the Dragonstone of nothing.
Parnoth - will follow, not lead.
Sturtavent - will crumble under both, but not one, and an attack would not be direct.
Silver dragon - can do nothing, but sees everything.
Floating City - a prize to be ruled over.
Corialote and Amarth Monday July 3rd, 2006 10:58:34 PM
Cori is surprised to find that it is Valdor that answers the door. She looks rather sheepish as he comments and then bodily picks her up. She lets her own lips brush his cheek as she puts him dowm. "I will see to the garden as soon as I have a few free moments." She catches the smell of breakfast in the air and she cannot help but feel the growing hunger. "I am off to get something to eat and then I will brief you on what I have found out...none of it good I asure you." With that she will retire to the dining hall to get some breakfast. Catching a kitchen staff member she puts in an order for a dozen pancakes, two dozen sausages, two dozen strips of bacon, eight eggs, a pitcher of orange juice and at least two dozen donuts.
Amarth perched on her shoulder is more than ready to have a couple of donuts himself. He is also hungry as the magic takes it out of him as well.
Valdor Tuesday July 4th, 2006 2:18:16 AM
Valdor chuckles at his daughter and replies,"Know doubt you are my daughter, eh? Listen, there is a time and a place for everything. However, I did not learn how to use these weapons in one day, week, or even year. It took time. You must live and have some fun, else your world will be empty. Also, as we witnessed when we practiced, you must learn control before all else. Skill with a blade or bow is easy. You will master that quickly. However, learning to live and enjoy life and having control over yourself and emotions is more important. I almost lost all control when they took you. Had you been killed, I would not be here now and would be a monster myself. Never have I allowed myself to do such and will not again...even if it costs me my life. That is not the person I am, nor what I want people to remember of me when I am gone one day. You may practice with one of them at a time, the other is to make sure neither of you gets harmed in the heat of battle. But, you must get out and see the city. I insist on this."
He heads into breakfast as Cori orders and adds,"I'll take a bunch of bacon, fruits, and juice." He eats in silence and seems to be in deep thought. After he eats, He heads to his workout room, where he finds comfort in solitude. He strips down to just pants and begins his workouts. He isn't as fierce as before, and he is glad of that. No anger, just practice.
When he finishes, he sits crosslegged in the room and breathes slowly and deeply. 'Control', he thinks to himself...'it's all about control.' Over and over he repeats this to himself. Finally, he utters a prayer,"Caeroldra, Domi, Alemi, Gargul, whichever...I know you didn't answer directly, and that is fine. All I know is that when I needed my sword to strike true, it did. I thank you for that. And thank you for my family all getting out safely, and I do mean all my family. I have been blessed with many things and am grateful. You will always have a voice of support from this mortal, not that it is important to you, but it is to me."
He sits for a long time, stretching his muscles and thinking. He waits for Nick and Ve to get back before going to clean up, figuring they'll need some rest and food before a big meeting.
Mordrid Tuesday July 4th, 2006 1:38:44 PM
Mordrid steps out into the courtyard where Valdor performs his morning ritual. With hands behind his back he circles the perimeter of the courtyard, looking skyward, for answers and peace. 'Two Cataclisms. What next? Would there be a time for peace on earth. Perhaps it was not time to lay down the sword. Perhaps it was a time to renew his fury. Two strike down all foes at extreme pace, so that we may all return to normalcy.'
The ranger is comforted by Valdor's nearness, and the clang of his swords. Hearing a new comotion inside, he assumes the others must be arriving with information, so he leaves the courtyard and makes his way to the war room. Stepping up to the large map on the wall, he places a finger on the Peablossom River and traces it downward to the sea. 'The only place in the Wold where a horse of the likes of the orc's could be found.' This he knew. 'Ask the horse merchants if they have seen this new heraldry.'
Nick Wednesday July 5th, 2006 2:46:05 AM
Nick emerges from his meditation slowly. His legs feel stiff, and he has to rise carefully with one hand against the wall for balance. He says nothing of it, hoping to brush it off. He'll probably be okay after a few stretches anyway, and maybe some rest, and a light breakfast.
Assuming Ve has completed his divinations at a similar point in time - "I suppose we'd better get back to Gold Dragon castle? I'm betting the others will be eager to know what we've been able to discover." He'll go and have a quick word with whoever was on hand last night to offer the cathedral's hospitality and tell them thanks.
Back at GDC, he squeezes Dahlia's hand, hoping that his own aren't shaking too much. "I'll be fine," he tells her with a smile. "Sitting up all night praying can take it's toll. breakfast and some sleep and I'll be right as rain."
He tells the others the result of his divinations on Sturtavent, the silver dragon, and the Float:
Sturtavent - will crumble under both, but not one, and an attack would not be direct. Silver dragon - can do nothing, but sees everything. Floating City - a prize to be ruled over.
DM Jan Wednesday July 5th, 2006 3:11:21 PM
The Gold Dragon castle kitchen responds in it's usual manner when faced with the hungry appetites of adventurers, and a balanced chaos of yelled threats and much dashing about in the kitchen itself, transforms into hot, tasty dishes and drinks, served smoothly and with no fuss in the dining room.
Outside, Plateau City gets into gear. It will be another typical, busy day, just like all the rest, and while the Platinum Dragons plan their next move, two of the kitchen hands plan a complicated but harmless prank on chef, who has been screaming at them all morning; Valdora sits in her room next to a half-eaten bowl of cereal, and is in the midst of scribbling a list, while the twins wait outside her door. Over at the Mayor's castle, Sturtavent is sat at his desk, also writing with an elaborately decorated quill pen; many feet below him, Korrig sleeps fitfully.
Ve Mundr Wednesday July 5th, 2006 3:29:00 PM
Hours slip by and Ve prays. He touches off several spells of Divination on the apparent evil forces that will soon be alinging against him and the forces of Good. Visions come, the welcomed whispers of DOmi and his forces. Ve has always preferred the touches of the divinations that the onslaught that came with a true Commune. There was also something more satisfying to him that through assistance he was able to determine the course and strike. rather than simply be told or have his suspisions confirmed. The night slips by and soon enough dawn arrives. Ve's eyes snap open and he immediately takes in the room and his surroundings again. Almost as if he forgot where he was. Standing, tendons pop and crackle as they are forced to activity and Ve looks over at Nicholas, concern across his face. Quickly he tries to hide it with a small smile as he gathers his stripped gear and gets dressed.
Accompanying Nick to the Castle proper, Ve thnaks heartily the first to present food of any kind to him. Ve won't stand to much on ceremony and after a small well practiced prayer of thanks, he digs in.
Ve too, relays what he knows, Black Dragon - the blood of a dark elf is on his claws. He divides and conquers.
Orc and banner - anger at what has been stolen, the Dragonstone of nothing.
Parnoth - will follow, not lead.
"At the moment I have no insight to deliver, perhaps after some rest.
Corialote and Amarth Wednesday July 5th, 2006 11:02:23 PM
Cori is attacking a rather large group of food that has been settled in front of her. Her slim frame and well muscled body leads you to wonder how she can stay this slim and trim but eat like an ogre. As she stuffs the last sausage before her into her mouth and chews it up she looks up at Ve and Nick as the enter. "A good morning I hope and better news than mine." She cuts off a piece of pancake and eats it slowly as she looks to Valdor and the others. "As others maybe able to tell you...we are looking at the barrens of Izen and Mount Bone...that seems to be the location of the half-orc and the banner." Cutting it up she eats the last of the pancake and three strips of bacon. With the food out of the way she settles back into her chair and sips on her juice.
Amarth busily eats the extras that Cori has put before him. He just listens, but his intelligent eyes rove the table as he takes in moods. All of this translated and sent onto his Mistress without her having to pay a lot of attention to anything else.
Dahlia Thursday July 6th, 2006 8:46:41 AM
Listens to Nicholas and then shakes her head.
"Nick, You are to go get yourself checked out at the temple. You are too special to me, umm, us for you to be hard headed about this. I expect we will be seeing more of that thing whatever it was and we need you to be in top shape. I will go to Valdor with this if necessary."
Uncharacteristically, Dahlia only nibbles at her food, eating just enough simple foods to keep her energy up but nothing more. When not watching or helping with Valdora or talking with Nick and the others, Dahlia spens her time looking for news of some of her old gypsy friends.
Valdor Thursday July 6th, 2006 10:17:04 AM
Hearing the reports, Valdor says,"How could an attack against Sturdevant cause him to crumble if it's not direct? Maybe an assassin? Korrig, maybe. Nah, Korrig wouldn't stand a chance against him. The orc is angry? Oh well, I wonder what he thinks was stolen. The black dragon may be more than just a black dragon. It could be a spawn of that thing Parnoth covered up, or a drow-lich in dragon form, or anything really. My thinking is to find out what we can about it. We don't need a direct confrontation, just a spying mission, maybe. We should be prepared for a fight, if we have to. I think we start with the orc...or, more likely, orcs and what his role is in this. He's the least likely to cause any stir if he were taken out. Of course, that might not be what needs to happen with him. We need to find out his purpose and role in this first. He and maybe a tribe or even army of orcs may serve this black dragon we will be hunting for. Any thoughts?"
Nick Thursday July 6th, 2006 2:04:40 PM
Keeping his voice low, Nick answers Dahlia's question. "I did get checked out at the temple. It's part of my life that's been taken, and there is nothing that can be done. I try and ignore it, because that appears to be the only way I can deal with it." He shrugs and smiles. "Who knows, I might still live to be a hundred and twenty, but Alemi only knows what I'll look like." Becoming serious once more, "But Dahlia, if it was capable of doing that to me, what about you? Do you feel anything different?"
During the discussion about the prophecies with the others, he clears his throat. "I'm going to stick my neck out and say that the black dragon we're dealing with, is the same one that killed Addenein. I can't remember it's name, but Addenein is a dark elf, one of the Storm dragons, and they went after a beast like that a while ago. I remember talking to Gareth about it during one of our joint exercises. The creature is fairly near the top of his hit list, I think. "As for an indirect attack, what if there was a move to undermine Sturtavent's authority here, rather than a direct confrontation? There are fights, and there are fights. As for this orc, I have no idea and it intrigues the heck out of me..." He runs out of steam and leans back in his chair. " Forgive me, but I need to get some sleep before I do another thing. But I'll be fine. Don't go anywhere dangerous without me."
He sets off upstairs for some sleep, but before he does so, he has a quiet word with the Dragonstone. "Are we able to give Ve a communication device? We don't want anyone getting lost." He knows the earpiece is a ceremonial thing, but in all probability, it would be dangerous not to have one.
DM Jan Friday July 7th, 2006 12:46:34 AM
Father Nicholas heads off for some rest, while the others talk over the task ahead.
One route emerging - the orc with the banner, and a possible starting point - the horse breeder alongside the Peaseblossom River.
Dahlia gets wind of a gypsy troupe performing at the Red Wyrm Inn around the corner in Adventurer's Square.
Mid morning, a letter arrives from Sturtavent -
I 'discussed' the problem with our prisoner. The man's head is in total disarray, but he knows something about an 'Iron Fist' - just fragments - curiosity, annoyance, and missing men. That's all I could find.
Sturtavent (signed with a big draconic swirl) ps. So, do I still behead a madman?
Ve Mundr Friday July 7th, 2006 12:47:50 PM
Ve paces about the room as ideas are bantered to and fro. "There is certainly more than 1 way to topple a power posistion. I agree that the dragon well may be working through agents to undermine authority. He could be moving his people into key positions, shifting more loyal men to the outskirts and such. To conquer a kingdom you do not need to kill the king."
Ve continues to move about as he thinks. "A thought Valdor. The orc is a Dragonstone of Nothing. What are you the Dragonstone of? It seems a direct relation. Tell me, why are you the Dragonstone?"
Overhearing Nicholas and Dahlia puts a darker thought into his head. The call of power, absolute power. Yes they had all been touched in some ways and given the approaching storm, it would be wise to know those ways to anticipate the potential results of distracted conflict or reintroduction to the same thing. The thought gave the Protector pause.
His eyes scan the letter quickly, again he thought of the possibility of Korrig converting and atoning. "Looks like Korrig has hear of our Iron Fist and lost a few people looking into it himself."
Valdor Saturday July 8th, 2006 1:17:39 AM
Valdor listens to Ve and thinks for a minute. He finally responds and says,"Queen Maab bestowed the honor and burden upon me before the YOA war. I can address all ggod beings in the entire Wold with this amulet."
He reaches under his shirt and pulls it out. He then continues,"And it gives me the ability to summon the entire Dragon Consortium. I reside over such a meeting. There are many other things it does. I am only the third being in the Wold to have such an honor she told me. She was the second.
He looks down at his feet and whispers softly,"Alemi was the first, when he was mortal. I am not worthy of such a responsibility, and my actions since you have been with us have not been that of any decent leader. I ask your patience before judging my character. I was...not myself over the past few days. And I thank you for helping me get my daughter back safely."
He clears his throat uncomfortably and then says,"You may be right, but the orc might also be angry over our defeat of so many of his brethren and the destruction of much of their army. If this is the same black dragon that the Storm Dragons fought, then we should consult with them. I will go while you spellcasters rest up. For this part of our journey, I would guess stealth and even disguise would be useful. Not to mention the ability to communicate with others who don't speak our language."
Dahlia Saturday July 8th, 2006 9:25:44 AM
Listening to Wwjat Nick is saying Dahlia shakes her head and then answers. I have not felt anything unusual since leaving the pit, though twice now I have felt that same fear and seen the shadow in these last two readings.
Later that evening Dahlia heads out to find her gypseys and try for another reading and more information.
Ve Mundr Saturday July 8th, 2006 1:04:07 PM
With a small smile, "I only meant to see if a Plain description of the Dragonstone could shead light on why my divination felt it important to include that the orc is the Dragonstone of nothing. Though perhaps the reason behind it is as you surmised earlier. The orc is unimportant. his representation in the cards were to indicate the region and banner under which other forces are marshalling. We now know Mt Bone and Izen to be those."
Ve looks compassionately at Valdor then, "I have not judged your character save that to think before me is a man who is a deeply devoted father and loves his daughter more so than his own life and eternal soul. That is behind us now and as always a new fight presents itself."
As Valdor speaks of leaving and disguise, Ve nods his agreement and by the others leave, he heads to the room he has been using.
Corialote and Amarth Saturday July 8th, 2006 9:47:48 PM
Cori nods in understanding as the group begins to talk of actions and then she has a thought. "Maybe the orc is just as important as you Valdor. Maybe he can call a council or something for the chromatics. He may carry as much weight as you do for the Consortium. We cannot dismiss the possibility that this orc is a vital part of the whole and not just a piece used to sidetrack us." She knows that she is running on assumptions and she hates to do that...no she would rather have fact. "My last question...is the orc what he appears to be?" As she poses this last bit she wonders if anyone has the answer as she did not think to check into that.
"I will prepare some spells that will aid in disguise and maybe make a stop to do some shopping as well." Maybe some extra supplies would not be a bad idea so that they are not defenseless.
Looking to Ve, Nick and Mordrid if he is present she asks about checking. "Should we see about checking on this orc's identity...if we can locate him that is? Maybe with the few of us working on it we can make sure of his identity and see if he is truely what he seems." It is only a suggestion that she is not sure the others will be game for.
Nick Sunday July 9th, 2006 1:51:18 AM
Outside his room, Nick asks one of the staff if they could check on him in five hours time, just in case he sleeps longer than he plans to.
Inside his room, he pulls off all his gear, leaves it there on the floor and collapses onto the bed.
Blessed Alemi, let me sleep without dreams...
Valdor d100=36 Sunday July 9th, 2006 11:18:41 PM
Valdor replies to Cori,"Queen Maab said there was only one Dragonstone. While I guess there is a remote possibility that your guess might be correct, I think his feelings might have just been of envy or something and that's what he was thinking...hence the anger at what was lost. Anyway, we head out when all are ready and rested and the spellcasters have memorized their spells. I am off to find Onrad and Gareth."
He heads back to his room for his equipment, wondering when his new armor will arrive. Once prepared, he focuses on Floating City and the roof of a building on the opposite side of the Overlord's mansion. As always, he puts himself about two feet off the roof, prepared to land softly and mutters his ring's command word.
DM Jan Monday July 10th, 2006 12:37:57 AM
So -
There is sleep to catch up on, spells to prepare, provisions and ammunition to be replaced, clothes to be washed, boots to be polished, blades to be sharpened, weapons and armour to be replaced and/or upgraded. The castle staff get into high gear with tasks they are able to do, with an attendant commotion in the yard outside the kitchen as some members set to with the laundry. Anyone taking their blades to the blacksmith will have them sharpened, and sharpened well. Dried fruit and meats, flat bread and sticks of boiled sweets are wrapped tightly in ration packs. Waterskins are washed out and replenished. Noise is kept to a minimum in certain areas of the castle, so that sleep will be undisturbed.
And for some, there are people to see.
Dahlia finds the troupe of gypsies in one corner of the Red Wyrm Inn, having a quiet drink, playing cards and minding their own business, whiling away the time until their next performance. The card dealer is also a fortune teller.
Valdor arrives on the upper level of the Floating City, not far away from the Overlord's Palace. Even at this level there is a lot of activity, after the the righting of the City has required extensive repairs to buildings, walls, pathways and interiors. Here, there are carpenters, stonemasons, glaziers, builders - all busy, some arguing with merchents over the price of sand and silk alike. The City is busy resurrecting itself from the nightmare of Ebyron's uprising.
Dahlia Monday July 10th, 2006 7:32:48 AM
Entering the RWI, Dahlia looks to see if any of the Gypsy band is anyone she knew in her past Gypsy life and if so approaches them exuberantly. If not she makes her way over to the table of card players and watches waiting to be noticed.
Mordrid Monday July 10th, 2006 12:17:27 PM
Mordrid begins preparing the horses. They are harnessed and bridled; and packed with all variety of sack and pouch. The horses are removed from the stables one at a time and tied to a hitch post, where they drink leasurely
'By the gods we are traveling like adventurers this time.' The ranger will be sickened if they gate about as normal. Anyone walking into the courtyard from the front entrance can see Mordrid at his business, and would have a hard conscious chosing any other form of travel than pack animals.
Valdor Monday July 10th, 2006 2:08:20 PM
Valdor quickly surveys the goings on of the City, a smile creeping across his face as they try to return to normalcy. The reslilience of people after a tragedy always makes his heart boom in his chest. He limbs down and walks through the streets towards the Storm Dragon's mansion to inquire of their current locations. He nods and smiles as he goes. He knows some will notice him, but most probably won't without his shiny armor. Of course, his shield is slung over his shoulder and bears his mark, along with his Dragonslaying sword standing as always over his shoulder, the hilt glinting and shining in the sun.
Corialote and Amarth Monday July 10th, 2006 8:02:04 PM
Cori slips out into the garden area that Valdor had mentioned earlier and settles down upon the grass. From her seated position she looks it over and sighs. "A lot of work here...not like my garden at home." Amarth is pacing upon the ground near her and looks up. "Still it is a nice spot Mistress and you love the work." She smiles as the raven speaks and shakes her head. He knows me so well and it will be nice to make something grow instead of destroying all the time. "You are right Amarth and with a little help from my newest druid friend...this place should be up and running in no time." The smile that spreads upon her face is genuine for once and not something that she wears to appease others.
The next eight hours are spent in the garden bent over her spellbook and trying to make the right decisions for the trial to come. Once that is done she has a trip to the Catacombs to prepare for and some shoping to do.
Nick Monday July 10th, 2006 10:15:57 PM
Nick's awake after five hours, and feels much better for the rest. For a moment he stands at his window, looking out and simply breathing. Then, he bathes, dresses lightly and settles down to pray for a while, getting ready for what is to come.
DM Jan Tuesday July 11th, 2006 1:27:04 AM
Plateau City - Red Wyrm Inn -
As Dahlia steps up toward the card players, the rest of the tavern appears to diminish and lose focus. There are six folk - three females, three males, sat around a table that is littered with half empty ale mugs - and cards. Five of the gypsies look at Dahlia in astonishment; the sixth, an elderly female, nods and beckons to the little halfling. "Come chile, we bin expecting you." Dahlia has not seen these particular gypsies before, but their style of dress is familiar, and their jewelry is similar to some of her own pieces. On the table, there is a stack of undrawn cards, and four others laid in a line, face up.
Card 1 - a gruesome battle scene, and in the foreground, an armed soldier bearing a pike that has four infants skewered on it.
Card 2 - a tall lady dressed in clothing identical to Dahlia's, holding a mask in front of her face, and there is a man stood directly behind her, his face hidden, but one of his hands is reaching over her shoulder, and appears to be pulling the mask away.
Card 3 - a black dragon.
Card 4 - a crowd of people, their faces enraptured, all walking toward a distant tower. The tower appears to have been built in the shape of a raised and clenched fist.
The old lady taps at the first card. "We know not what to make of the rest, but this - four infants, that's a mighty battle, chile, an' you'll be needin' reinforcements - the best you can find..."
Out of the corner of Dahlia's eye, two of the cards appear to shimmer a little. On the dragon card, the silver dragon appears once again in the background. On the card depicting the lady, are shimmering tendrils, and Dahlia catches sight of the man's face as he comes briefly into view. It is a terrible face, full of woe and ruin. He seems to catch sight of Dahlia looking at him, and he dodges sharply out of view. As soon as he does - the tendrils disappear, and so does the silver dragon on the other card.
Floating City - Storm Dragon Mansion -
The man painting the exterior wall of the mansion nearly drops his paint pot as Valdor approaches, but recovers quickly, nods his head, and carries on. Inside, Mitchum the butler is accomodating and apologetic. "I'm sorry, Sir, none of them have been home for a while now, and I'm not sure, not this minute, when any of them will return." He shrugs. "Personal business of an important nature, I assume. I didn't pry. Perhaps I should have. Oh, this arrived from Addenein two days ago. it was delivered here, but it's addressed to you. Odd, to be certain. I was going to send it on..." Mitchum hands Valdor an oblong-shaped parcel, wrapped in waxed paper and string. The seal has not been broken.
Plateau City - Gold Dragon Castle -
Two of the stable hands rush out to help Mordrid prepare the horses, and some time during the early afternoon, Valdor's armour arrives and is taken to his room with great ceremony. The two men carrying the V-emblazoned chest plate pass by a window that looks into the garden and see Cori talking to her raven. They look at one another, shrug, then carry on. Both Nick and Ve will find on awakening that fresh clothes have been laid out, and the ones worn earlier that day are now clean and starched and are hanging in the wardrobe.
Valdor Tuesday July 11th, 2006 1:49:23 PM
Valdor replies,"Mitchum, I wouldn't expect you to pry. You have performed as yu should have...as always. They are lucky to have someone as loyal as you to oversee things while they are gone. My thanks for the package. If you do see them, please tell them we are searching for a certain black dragon that they know all too well. Not a member of the black dragons, but an actual black dragon. I'm not sure, but I think he has purple eyes or something like that. We could use their help, if they have finished their family business. Please send word to me if they cannot join us in this adventure. We may be retiring soon and it would be nice if we could finish this together."
Valdor bows deeply then, just as he's about to leave, remembers the package. He decides to open it before he leaves.
Dahlia Tuesday July 11th, 2006 6:40:24 PM
The halfling is a bit startled when she is addressed and that she was not only expected but that the cards on the table are already dealt for her. She peruses and ponders a moment over each card memorizing all possible details and listens as the Gypsy tells what she knows. She pays particular attention to the tower with the people and the lady and man, trying to see if there is anything recognizable about them. The little halfling starts again as the cards seem to come alive for a bit and then change.
My thanks to you and yours. May your road be ever smooth and the muse never leave you. Please accept this coin, not as payment but for firendship and peace. Dahlia sets a small poch of coind on the table as she departs. (10 gold)
When she returns to the castle she awaits Valdor's return and a chance to inform them of what else she may have learned.
Corialote and Amarth Tuesday July 11th, 2006 7:24:05 PM
Leaving her new home she steps out into the streets and quickly moves to the Catacombs to do some shoping. "Now I just need to figure out what is most important...acid protection most likely...but what else." She does not get any imput from the raven upon her shoulder. Amarth is busy trying to sort things out as well and figure out how he can help his Mistress. This is an epic event that may well leave her dead and he does not want to see that.
Jan - Would it be possible to get a copy of Cori's CS. I have an older one but I am not sure how much money that she still has on hand. So I am not sure if she can make her purchases or not. :) Thanks.
(Jan, Valdor would give her whatever money she needs to buy protections for the group. I figured that would be understood if she bought for the party...sorry)

Floating City - Storm Dragon Mansion - Gold Level -
Mitchum is joined by the wizened old Housekeeper, and they both give Valdor a farewell bow. "The very best of luck, Sir. And be assured I will pass your message on. I'm sure if they can be there, they will be." The seal snaps in two, and beneath the wrapping Valdor discovers a battered journal. It's contents are a mixture of sketches and text. The text's language is drow.
Plateau City -
The card player simply nods at Dahlia's gift of gold, the donation apparently traditional and acceptable. "May the breeze carry you, and may your blade never rust, chile. You tread carefully now, you've a storm ahead." The cards are gathered into a loose pile, the gypsies go back to their drinking, and the atmosphere in the Inn lightens considerably.
Back at the castle, in the midst of getting the horses ready, Mordrid finds Valdora creeping up on him, apparently eager to try out her new soft boots, bought earlier this morning, for their promised stealth attributes. Cori finds herself neck deep in the usual Catacombs clamour, as adventurers from all over the Wold are buying, selling and trading with the usual peculiar members of staff there. Nick finds that his prayer session both calms and invigorates him a little. Over at the blacksmith, weaponry is laid out, already honed and polished.
Valdor Wednesday July 12th, 2006 3:14:34 PM
Valdor briefly considers going by the Overlord's mansion to pay his respects, then decides to ask Mitchum,"Would you be so kind as to give my regards and best wishes to the Overlord, along with my apology for not dropping by to pay my respects. I am really pressed for time. Don't forget, if you see Gareth, Onrad, or any of the others, please tell them to contact me. Simply tell them about the black dragon. My thanks."
He bows, activates his ring, and pops back into his room. He smiles when he sees his new armor. He tries it on, knowing that the dwarven mastersmith has made it perfectly as before. He heads downstairs and hands Cori the journal and asks her to read it.
Mordrid Wednesday July 12th, 2006 7:34:15 PM
Mordrid continues tightening a harness, when he hears Valdora approaching. Without stopping to turn he adresses her.
"Even the leaves make noise. As does the west wind, and the woodpecker's steady rythem is more than a disguise. Its not enough to simply make no noise. You must join the sounds of nature, the language of the gods. Step in rythem with nature. It is then that you will not be noticed. The language of the gods, when you learn to speak it, you too will pass without trace."
A moment of silence to allow Valdora to listen to her surroundings.
When your mother speaks it sounds like a babbling brook. You do know who your mother is don't you?"
Mordrid turns to face his niece.
Corialote and Amarth d20+29=47 Wednesday July 12th, 2006 9:56:44 PM Assuming Valdor comes to the Catacombs.
Cori looks up from the business of the Catacombs to spot Valdor enter. It looks as if he was looking for her for some reason. As he presents the journal to her she takes a sear near a corner and opens it. She looks up at Valdor with a raised eyebrow. "The language of my people...and this would be?" She does not look back down at the book as Amarth has already turned his own eyes to it, reading. Through her link she is already assimilating the beginning of the diary as her raven reads it line by line. "Let me read the first five pages and then I will read it out loud to you." She has already flipped a page even though she had not looked at the book. "By the way...I borrowed your purse to make some purchases...some acid protection potions and scrolls...some polymorph scrolls and greater invisiblity for sneaking and disguise...anything else?" She figures since she is already in line she might as well help out with other purchases as well.

Dahlia Thursday July 13th, 2006 8:23:03 AM
When everyone is returned and together Dahlia relates what she heard / saw / learned from the gypsy.
Ve Mundr Thursday July 13th, 2006 9:29:14 AM
Ve awakens and in no particular hurry, gets up. First he washes and sends for some coffee and a sweet roll to be delivered to his room along with any current publication that might be available to read. Pulling up a chair he relaxes and reads. As the sun climbs a bit higher and splashes more fully through the window, Ve takes out the carpet and kneels for his daily meditation and prayers. Upon finishing, he dresses in his full armor and takes a leisurely stroll through the castle for about an hour. Most of the others are gone or are doing various things. He does have some business to attend to though and decides he can put it off no longer. Returning to his room, Ve packs and readies the rest of his gear and then heads to the Catacombs .
Nick Thursday July 13th, 2006 11:29:50 AM
Nick goes wandering off in search of some of the others, feeling a lot better despite still looking like an old codger. He is starting to get used to seeing his reflection in the mirror.
Dahlia's card reading experience has him puzzled.
"Well, the dragons and the iron fist are a recurring theme, it seems. I wonder.... that tower - maybe it represents a focal point, drawing people toward it's cause. Sturtavent mentioned something about Korrig losing men? What if it's a call to war? "And if it is, then we don't have just a dragon to deal with."

Plateau City - Gold Dragon Castle -
Valdora sighs and looks dubiously down at her new boots while Mordrid imparts the afternoon's lesson. His final comment brings her up sharp, however. To that, she answers with a nod and then looks quickly away. Recovering, she says "I have a lot to learn... haven't I."
It is now late afternoon and shadows are lengthening. Merchants are calling out their final markdowns for the day, and the sky is beginning to split into pink and yellow on the horizon. At the castle, the horses are saddled up. All that remains is for the group is to decide where they are going and how.
((OOc Talons should be ready by Monday if all goes to plan in terms of storyline.))
Valdor Thursday July 13th, 2006 11:47:20 PM
Valdor waits for Cori to read the journal. He says,"It came from Addenein, a drow who was with the Storm Dragons for a while. I know he was part of their fight with a huge black dragon at least once. I think they had fought it before, and I also think it assassinated the Underlord in Floating City fairly recently. If it's the same dragon, it had purple eyes, I think. But it's rather hazy in my mind."
DM Jan - 2nd post Friday July 14th, 2006 12:20:42 AM
Addendum:
Addinein's Journal... appears to be written in retrospect, and it's preface describes how the Storm Dragons journeyed from the Floating City, south along the huge lake, and down some hair-raising river rapids, before arriving at a small village. The people there were being picked off and eaten by a dragon - a black one. The Storm Dragons attempt to destroy it met with failure - Addeinein died, and the others only survived because of Nonam's ingenuity.
The journal then appears to be split up into chapters and by the looks of it, will take some time to read. There are also sketches of -
The dragon. An old man. A young girl. What looks like a smaller dragon, drawn with a lighter hand. A landscape - patchy foreground, and a misshapen dark patch, maybe a tunnel or cave in the background.
One page contains just two words - "I drowned."
Corialote and Amarth Friday July 14th, 2006 12:21:34 PM
Cori looks to Valdor and then relates what little she has learned from the jounal so far. "This journal will take a little while to read the whole thing...but it is divided into chapters that may allow me to find things of interest." She purses her lips as she looks to the drawings in the journal. "Anything specific I should look for?" She indicates the pictures drawn in the journal and points out the differences in some of them. "Now this last page is not too promising....it simply says..."I drowned."...which could mean many things." Looking back up at Valdor she indicates the journal again. "Want me to continue and read the whole thing or just look for keywords to topics you need?" Amarth is still reading off her shoulder as his Mistress speaks...though you know from experience that he is also listening to the current conversation.
Valdor Sunday July 16th, 2006 7:44:25 PM
Valdor replies to COri,"That's right, they fought it under the water at one point. I hate to say it, but we'll want to each have a water breathing potion, a freedom of movement potion, and maybe a swim potion. I am adept at swimming, but it won't hurt to have an extra...just in case. The problem with memorizing the spell is that if the fight erupts quickly, you guys may not be able to get all of us with it. Poor Addenein. But, if we can learn from their mistakes, and not duplicate them, we have a better chance for success. If that's how the dragon has learned to fight, he may think everyone will fall prey to it, and that would give us an advantage.
Cori, just maybe read a few sentences or paragraphs from each chapter. At least you'll get an idea of what's important to read, and what's not going to help us. Show that smaller dragon to Dahlia, and see if it's familiar. We should all look at the sketches and keep our eyes open for those people or places."
Mordrid Sunday July 16th, 2006 11:05:17 PM
"Thank Alemi Cori can read this stuff. It looks like a pretty complicated language."

Ve Mundr Monday July 17th, 2006 1:41:06 PM
Ve returns from the catacombs. Underwater combat, certainly could be an issue. The major weakness of the potion is the ease in which it is dispelled. A dragon would certainly have this in mind. I would suggest taking the fight to the dragon in his underwater lair be our last option. The cards were showing the dragon as an indirect player, perhaps we could work on his support mechanisms just as he would wish to wean ours?"
Corialote and Amarth Monday July 17th, 2006 10:51:20 PM
Cori looks to the rest of the group and sighs. "I did a little shopping for some items that we may need." She flips a large purse to Valdor that is slightly lighter than it had been a few days ago. "Sorry...had to get money from someone." She gives an impish smile letting him wonder how she gained access to his personal money.
She pulls a number of potions and scrolls out of the special pockets on the pants that she wears and lays them out upon the table. "As we maybe teaming up with another group I bought extras." She points to each grouping of scrolls and potions as she has separated them into their groups. "We have scrolls and potions to protect us from acid, scrolls to polymorph or forms, scrolls to grant us greater invisibility, potions for breathing water, scrolls for freedom of movement and lastly elixirs that will improve swimming." She looks to Valdor to see if there is anything that she may have forgotten and also a look that warns him to not come up with something else. "Those that can make us of these will need to take at least one of each...otherwise those that can use the mage scrolls will need to be ready to help out."
Jan should be getting an email about this purchase soon. Wanted to go ahead and throw it out there already so we can get this divided up as needed. Unless Jan does not approve anyways.

Valdor Monday July 17th, 2006 11:08:03 PM
Valdor grins at Cori, not ruining her moment, then looks surprised when she tosses him the bag of money. He actually looks convincingly surprised...or is he?!?!
After a minute, he says,"I couldn't find any of our previous partners. I suppose they will get our message, and maybe one or two will show up. What about enlisting the aide of someone else...someone who has more knowledge of that region than ourselves? If the Talons are finished with their other tasks, maybe we should invite them. Not only will they have some knowledge that might help, but also, we could use the extra manpower. Besides, Mordrid is getting too old for all this running across the Wold constantly. If there's a war brewing, they are soon to be Dragons, and should have a chance to see how we handle things, and hopefully learn and use that with their own unique abilities and experience."
Nick Tuesday July 18th, 2006 2:51:17 AM
Nick rubs the bridge of his nose. "Dahlia's card readers did say we'd need all the help we can get. If we enlist the Talons, we'd better let them know what they might be getting into."
DM Jan Tuesday July 18th, 2006 3:02:52 AM
Potions and scrolls, journals, card readings, dragon prophecies - all coming together to weave a highly complicated and possibly VERY sticky web.
It would be easy to put it all aside. Outside, the day is about to give in to night - lanterns are being lit all along the river, tables are being dragged outside in front of restaurants, and the city gets ready for it's usual nightly festivities. There is no threat of dragons, or orcs, or wars. Not here. Not now. The city rests easy in it's oblivion.
And somewhere upstairs, a teenager is trying to figure out how she can sneak out and join this latest endeavor. The group was going somewhere after all. Just look at all those horses all saddled up.
((OOC - I should have asked permission from Donna for some of you to post on the Talons Board. I'll ask tomorrow.))
Dahlia Tuesday July 18th, 2006 7:49:10 AM
Listening to the others and taking a look at the dragon sketches Dahlia prepares for whatever is to come. At the mention of the Talons, Dahlia purses her lips and thinks a moment. The Talons might actually be a pretty good choice for this anyway. We need to see how they are progressing and they are not a group that we have really teamed with before. We probably do need to remember though that they are not as powerful or as well equipped as we are.
DM Jan OOC Tuesday July 18th, 2006 10:58:19 AM
((Okay guys, we need to pay a visit to the Talons Board. I suggest all of us. They've just had something big dropped in their laps and it might take a few posts to get through, namely a huge refugee tribe of elves, and Mop demanding taxes.
The Talons have their own place now - Saryd Tower, on the southern edge of Culverwood, to the north of Emerald City. When our characters arrive there, they'll find the place teeming with elves, who are there to escape Parnoth's draconian (ha ha) elf slavery laws. Someone found a loophole in the green dragon's bureaucracy.))
Scott - So are we posting on both boards, or is this board closed til further notice?
~~Jan~~ I'm visualizing a quick post over here, to say where we're going, then we post over there, then we all come back here in a giant horde once we've all agreed on the joint mission. Does that sound about right?
Mordrid Tuesday July 18th, 2006 2:09:19 PM
Someone paying attention to the goings and comings outside the castle might notice Mordrid having a rather lengthy and animated conversation with a hawk, perched on the hitching post among the horses.
Pointing to the castle, the ranger instructs the bird to go tell Valdor the news. "And tell him that I have gone ahead. He and the others can catch up. If he can't understand you, I'm betting that Valdora can." The bird flies off toward the castle tower.
Mordrid mounts up, and gallops thru the courtyard and out the front gate. With magic and strength, the ranger guides the horse forward at great pace.
Ve Mundr Tuesday July 18th, 2006 4:22:55 PM
Ve looks to the mass of scrolls and potion Cori returned with. A mighty impressive chunck of change was just spent. The Hierophant simply had no idea the funds available. Valdor and the others knew the groups to be involved more than he, so he would let them decide on the division. His prayers teh next day would reflect on what was decided. "So now we are to the Southern Culverwood and the Talons then."
Nick Tuesday July 18th, 2006 8:40:04 PM
"Okay, then," says Nick, standing up. "Let's pay them a visit. Valdor, are we teleporting?"
He frowns, knowing his stomach is in for a bit of a wrenching.
Mordrid's Hawk... (Jan) Tuesday July 18th, 2006 8:41:32 PM
..... lands on Valdor's shoulder and gives him the news.
((OOC - Scott, I'm assuming Mordrid's heading is the Peaseblossom River? Edit - No wait - he's gone to the Saryd Tower. Good idea.))
Corialote and Amarth d20+29=44 Tuesday July 18th, 2006 11:32:45 PM
Cori listens intently as they all talk and gets the idea of what is going to go on. She nods as Nick speaks up as she has been wondering the same thing. Looking to the group as a whole she then looks to Valdor. "So how do we do this with the stuff that I bought...I doubt that it will do much good if I carry all of it." She is soon seated in one of the chairs and pulls out the journal once again. She pours of the first paragraph of each section of the journal, only reading a whole chapter when she finds something of note. Amarth is perched on her shoulder and doing the same thing as his Mistress though he reads the second paragraph of each chapter.
[concentration 44 to keep what she is reading and her familiar is reading separate]
Valdor Wednesday July 19th, 2006 12:59:30 AM
Well, as much as I hate to keep teleporting, it's the only way to cover such distances quickly. Why is it that everything we have to do these days is a big rush? Why are the bad guys always lurking with our next problem or encounter right around the corner? Oh well, nothing to do but go with it. The ring it is. Will it take our mounts too, if we are sitting on them, or holding them like a backpack would? I suppose we could try it."
Just then, something occurs to him. He says,"I'll be right back." He sprints off, up the stairs to his daughter's room. He knocks and makes his presence known. If she answers, he enters, gives her a big hug and says,"I love you very much. I promise all this travelling will end soon. Have fun and if you want to go out, I don't mind at all. Just carry one of our earpieces that's attuned to the twins. Just in case you need them..."
After he exits, he pulls one of the twins off to the side and says in a whisper,"She must be allowed some freedom. However, one of you needs to be near her at all times. Don't let yourselves be seen unless it is absolutely necessary."
He then heads back to the group and passes the ring.
Nick Wednesday July 19th, 2006 1:07:57 AM
"Cori - looks like we're moving. I'll help you carry the scrolls, we can hand them out later." Glancing over her shoulder. "I must admit I'm intrigued about what's inside that journal."
To the others, he says "If we don't take the horses, I know one ranger who will be extremely annoyed. I think he spent nearly all day down in the stables."
DM Jan Wednesday July 19th, 2006 1:15:38 AM
From her position at one of the upper windows, Valdora looks down toward the courtyard where her father, Cori, Nick, Dahlia and Ve have gathered together with their mounts.
As they disappear, she turns away, and her teeth nibble at her bottom lip to stop it from trembling. Great - they were all off on an adventure, while she had lessons with crazy old Mycroft and sparring with the twins to look forward to. A dark curl of memory twists to the fore - trapped in a cage, and something terrible tearing at her fingernails. She shivers. Perhaps not. Not yet anyway. Love you, Daddy.
