Reaching a Refuge

The Inn of Quiet Repose [DM SteveK]
Friday July 28th, 2006 3:21:15 PM

Theodore winces as a couple of arrows find their mark on his friends and hollers at the gnome, "You have something on you from this realm! Toss it, quickly!"

Berlon hears Dietrich, but is confused. He remembers that Theodore had the sword and he has... "Me", concludes a mournful voice from Berlon's satchel. "He will never let me go." And Berlon realizes that Samule the Shade is right. The half of a soul is anchored to this lavender dimension. Dropping the ripped soul on the dark ground, it folds upon itself piteiously. "Please forgive me..." it whispers as Berlon takes a step and crosses the lintle.

Jack the Ghost fights down the oncoming panic. He cant move, cant do anything. What now? Jack tries an experiment and finds he CAN move. His arms work, his legs are fine, but he can't go further than a foot away from his body. As he hasn't tried to manifested himself in the Inn, he has no idea if his ghostly powers still work or are they gone as well?

Rose stands confused at why she was able to get in the Inn with her forest crystal, but Berlon can't. A puzzle to be sure...

Vorelle kneels beside the Wolf and gives it an awkward hug, explaining why she can't keep it.
She stays kneeling beside the wolf, arms wrapped around its neck, shedding tears onto its shaggy coat.

Olyn drops the daylight spell, zaps Berlon for 12 points of healing from the wand. He doesn't see a discernable taint, and knows he can go through the doorway at any time. Olyn also knows that he was not repelled, but his friend Berlon, whom Olyn was sending on in front of himself. The half-elf is certain that he could walk into the Inn without trouble. A single step, and he is inside, the invisibility sloughing off like an old scab.

Vauhwyt looks aroud the place, then out at the combat Olyn and Berlon are still in. "Berlon! Drop Samule!" Then she adds, "Sorry Samule! Better luck next life!"

Dietrich is happy but aprehensive. He puts the bow away and fast-draws the great-sword, and looks around the Inn.

Wolf snuggles with Vorelle, and seems to understand the caresses and tears of the ranger-girl. His fur is a bit softer than Vorelle would have thought, and she notices the animal is not as large as he looked in the moonlight either Highlight to display spoiler: { Oops. If Vorelle still wants Wolf as a Companion, she discovers that he only appeared to be a wolf, when in fact he was a wolfhound. She can of course name it wolf, or anything else if she wishes to keep it }

The main tavern is cozy, the staff (Lupe and Garro) are polite, if perhaps a little... odd, overly enjoying the smells around them, the meat, the mead, the smell of their guests... There's a fire to warm the bones, mulled wine, and a good menu with endless tasty mushroom dishes. One end of the room holds a large window, where one can look out into the lavender twilight of the land. There is no sign the Hunt was ever there. Past the bar, at the opposite end, are two large, dwarven statues. Both statues carry swords.

Lupe is the barmaid who comes around to fill mugs and plates. She is fresh and full-bodied, her hips swing suggestively as she moves around the tables. While she goes through the patterns of the tap room like a dance, the eyes of the cook/ barman Garro are always on her with a hungry light. Both will claim that the Inn is a sanctuary and no one violates the ban... more than once.

There are other patrons in the Inn; a couple eating quietly in a corner, a group of goblins dressed like businessmen at another table, and an old fat man enveloping a large chair near the fire. While the couple and the goblins studiously ignore you, the man in beige robes and the man by the fire both look at you with interest.

He is thin, bronze of skin and black of eye and hair. Liquid black eyes look at you with knowledge of what has just transpired but he neither looks alarmed nor triumphant. Perhaps waiting for one of you to make the first greeting?

Olyn
Friday July 28th, 2006 3:36:48 PM

Stepping into the Inn, Olyn turns around and looks back where the Hunter is, and promptly gives him a rude gesture.
With a smirk on his face he slams the doors shut behind him and studies the room. Taking in the surroundings he notices the thin man watching the group while the others ignore the group.
And then blurting out for all to hear, Olyn says:
Where in the 9 hells are we? What in Hades was that thing that called himself the Huntsman? And, how in Wardds' name do we go back where we are from?

Half-Witted Vauhwyt
Friday July 28th, 2006 9:09:26 PM

Vauhwyt spares a moment of regret for poor Samule. She had already been thinking of fun things to do with a sentient piece of black cloth, but alas, it is not to be.

The liontaur goes over to the thin man with black hair. Vauhwyt is dripping blood from a half-dozen wounds, and she is dead tired, but her wit has not eluded her. Sitting on the floor next to the man's table, she says, "So what does a girl have to do in this joint to get a fellow to buy her a drink?"

Well, maybe her wits have half-eluded her.

Jack /the Ghost
Saturday July 29th, 2006 3:12:37 AM

Jack sees he can move, but notices his body has gone transparent again. Why does he keep shifting back to tramparency. Putting his mind to it he moves back onto the ethereal plane.

OOC Sorry, figured I was manifested.

Berlon 22/39 AC 20
Saturday July 29th, 2006 6:30:11 PM

Berlon slumps to the floor, almost crashing down as if his armor was suddenly too heavy for him to wear. He sits with his back against the wall, knees bent, rocking back and forth, a pose he hasn't taken since a certain encounter with a certain cursed book...

Vorelle
Sunday July 30th, 2006 5:00:07 PM

Taking a deep breath, Vorelle tries to pull herself together. Nobody has tried to separate her from the wolf yet; it appears this inn is sanctuary for both of them.

Standing, she runs her fingers through its silky fur, then frowns. Surely it was shaggy a minute ago? And is it her imagination or has the creature gotten smaller?

Keeping the wolf by her side, Vorelle goes to the door of the inn. It bothers her to have to leave Samule behind.

"I-is there any w-w-way w-we can b-b-b-bring S-Samule?" she asks her friends.

It seems like it would be so easy--open the door, lean out, grab the scrap of cloth, yank it into the inn. But apparantly, it won't come. And the Huntsman is out there, which makes opening the door a really bad idea.

Theodore & Macaw HP 21/26 AC 17 (mage armor, dodge)
Sunday July 30th, 2006 10:22:56 PM

Theodore comes to stand beside Vorelle, peering through any windows that might look out on the horrible scene they had just barely escaped from.

"I don't think so," he says in answer to the ranger's question. "I also wish we could have helped him, but it seems this realm has a peculiar hold on those it claims as its own."

"I hate to admit it, but I'm more concerned that the Huntsman won't keep to his promise. What's to stop him from busting down this door and slaughtering us all?"

Macaw decides it's time to rejoin the party. The raven flaps down to perch on Theodore's head, pecking the mage once to let him know he's there.

"Ow! Have you been here this whole time?" the young wizard demands of his bird as he tries to give the raven a stern look, though quite difficult seeing Macaw's position atop his head. "You just left us behind to serve as pincushions!"

Apparently, the bird isn't too interested in his master's tirade and begins to preen himself.

The Inn of Quiet Repose [DM SteveK]  d100=87 3d8(7+7+6)+10=30
Monday July 31st, 2006 6:01:32 AM

Several of the heroes look out of the open windows to look for the Huntsman, provide defiant gestures, or search for Samule who should be right outside the door. The lavender moonlight brightly bathes the hillside, tendrils of the ever present mist swirling around the distant mushrooms and crystal forests. It should be easy to spot the dead mastiffs, the live ones coming closer, the terrifying presense of the Huntsman...

There is nothing there...

Inside the Inn,

Olyn uses little diplomacy to blurt out the need for some explanations. Well, it is understandable after all everyone has been through! From a table comes a swirl of skirts, and the gypsy girl Jilla comes headlong into Olyn's arms. Dark eyes shine into the half-elfs as the young woman gives him a kiss on the lips. "Thank you for saving my life!" she coos. Behind her are the three other gypsies who also give thanks with hands touching thier foreheads and then opening towards the heroes. "You have saved our clan's beloved treasure. We thank you."

Vauhwyt uses her own exhaustion to get some service out of one of the Inn's patrons, the one in desert robes and black hair. The thin man is instantly up and comes to Vauhwyt's side. "We continue to meet in strange Inn's, my tawny friend", he says. Vauhwyt realizes that the man is Mittani from the Giggling Ghost. He places his hands on her sides and speaks, "may all the gods of the Wold look kindly upon this thier creation." Berlon and Olyn feel the usual absense of the god-touch, but healing passes through to Vauhwyt (30 hit points healed)

Jack manifests himself standing over his body. It seems he is linked to his body and his soul can't escape like normal in the Wold. Thinking of the link with the animated skulls and Samule the Shade, it looks like it was a VERY good idea to keep Jack's body from the Huntsman.

Berlon is struggling within his own fetal ball, alone in a crowded room.

Rose looks in vain for the disappeared Hunstman.

Vorelle wonders about this canine helper, and worries about the dissappeared Samule.

Theodore worries over the worth of the Huntsman's promise. And from that, the buxom serving girl laughs. Sauntering over in a hip-rolling gait, she looks the skinny teen up and down. "I'm Lupe", is her throaty beginning, "and the Inn is a refuge for all in Harrowed Moon. It is protected by a greater power than the Huntsman. Come," she purrs, rubbing up against Theodore, "have meat, have mead, make yourself... " she leans in to sniff his hair, her own smell like violets in a forest, "comfortable."

Dietrich
Monday July 31st, 2006 8:26:24 AM

Dietrich still shivers as he thinks about Samule´s fate and what kind of torture the poor guy´s soul will have to endure.

The warrior sheaths his sword and listens to his friends, sharing Olyn´s "point of view" and also Vorelle´s questions.

He goes over to Berlon and puts a hand on the gnomes shoulder:
"Come come, it´s over! We´ve make it! Have an ale and some rest while we discover where we are."

The knight looks around for a drink too, and eagerly awaits some answers. He also looks in the direction of JAck´s mutilated body, hoping they can put it out of sight in a secure place.

Olyn
Monday July 31st, 2006 11:12:54 AM

Standing there in shock after the kiss for a few seconds, then blushing just a tinge Olyn smiles to her, then to her clan saying: To save such a beautiful flower in the midst of dark thorns and to be a pain in "his" side felt good.
Turning to Jilla he says: could you tell us where we are exactly and not that the company is unpleasant, how do we go about getting back to our homes?

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Monday July 31st, 2006 12:58:46 PM

Vauhwyt's face breaks into a great smile. "MITTANI! What a wonder and a pleasure to meet someone you know here in this place! Well met, and thanks for the healing!"

"What brings you to this forsaken place, my friend?"

But when the gypsies say that they are thankful for the return of their treasure, Mookie pipes up. "Treasure? Hey, we like treasure as much as the next group of heroes. How about thanking us with some treasure, too?"

Vauhwyt blushes and grabs the greedy bird. "I'm so sorry," she says to the gypsies. "Please ignore him. Your thanks are all that we need."

She gives the bird a gentle shake and stuffs him in his pouch.

Vauhwyt whispers to Mittani, 'Say, do you know what power it is she is talking about that is greater than the Hunter? I'm not sure I want to know!"

Rose
Monday July 31st, 2006 3:16:39 PM

Rose asks for a cup of tea and Piper will fly over to Vauhwyt and talks to Mookie "I never get stuffed into pouches brother."

Mmmph mblph mmbphlphff!

Berlon 22/39 AC 20
Monday July 31st, 2006 5:44:13 PM

"...tea..." Berlon quietly whispers, still rocking back and forth against the wall, hands clasped behind his head.

"Tea and elves..." he rocks back and forth at a slightly quicker pace.

"I should be performing the kadorto as we speak, yet we are taking tea. I'm not partial to tea myself, the people of my village prefer a cold mixture of berries and vanilla, the same berries I use in my potions..." he trails off as if he's lost his train of thought.

He jumps up and beams at Lupe. "Don't worry!" he insists, just below a shout. "Don't worry! It won't start to stink for at least another half hour. Please please PLEASE don't worry!" He then throws himself back to the the ground against the wall, and continues his rocking.

"You don't know what it's LIKE," he says to no one in particular, "don't you hear it? Can't you FEEL it? Don't you feel the pull? Am I the only one?"

With that he comes to a sudden stop. He shakes his head and stands up, apparently disoriented.

He looks up and grins, addressing the patrons of the Inn as a whole. "Greetings, friends! My companions and I require the quickest way to return to our homeland. Any information you could provide would be MOST appreciated," he finishes with a broad smile.

Keeping a hand on the wolf--or is it a dog?--Vorelle goes over to Berlon.

"B-B-B-Berlon?" she asks tentatively. "A-Are you a-alright?"

She looks at Berlon, paying attention to his eyes, his color, his respiration, and anything else she can observe, trying to figure out what might be wrong with him.

Theodore is miffed by the absence of any conflict from the outside. When he turns around, he is face to face with Lupe.

Goose prickles run over his body as she pushes up against him. "I-I-I" A violent shake courses through him and he gulps, heavily.

Clearing his throat, he points to Jack's body. "I'm just going to see what I can do for my friend, there."

Safe Haven Inn [DM SteveK]
Tuesday August 1st, 2006 4:51:38 AM

Dietrich wants to know more of the place they found themselves in, wonders about Jack's body, and tries to cajole Berlon out of his semi-vegetative state. The bar-man, Garro, provides the warrior with a long oiled canvas sack. "A sailor left this here last month and never returned. Perhaps you can make use of it with the meat on the floor." (He points at Jack's body)

Olyn is bemused at Jilla's forwardness, but his gallantry is returned full force. Jilla swirls away from the cleric and into the protective arms of one of the gypsy warriors. He glares in jealousy at Olyn, but Jilla rapidly turns it into a smile. "Dmitri, oh, how I've missed you!" The dark and well-muscled Dmitiri will be happily silent, yet he still watches Rose with smoldering eyes.
The gypsy without weapons nods at Olyn's question of return. "Without the mists allowing you to return to your homes, the only way I know of is the Dwarven Doors." (At this, he points at the two dwarf statues flanking the fireplace.) "They move to other worlds, and usually key on the patrons who have great need."
"Before you go", he continues solemnly, "you have given us a gift, and it is only right for us to give you one in return." He takes off a satchel from around his shoulder and passes the travel-stained leather to Olyn. Inside there are four thick scrolls of yellowed vellum, tied with ribbons of vermillion, amber, scarlet, and black respectively, and is written in some High Woldian and of some other ancient tongue. "Not gold or magic, but ancient knowledge is often priceless to the right sage."

Vauhwyt gives enthusiastic welcome to this chance-met friend, and commiserates at length. The reserved bronzed man smiles. "I have been awaiting other friends to venture into Harrowed Moon. There is an item lost, and it is said it is kept by this realm's enforcer near a ruined church. We mean to retrieve the item." His black eyes turn darker with sadness and hatred. "I suspect the power that is spoken about. There is only one mistress of this realm of endless night. And I suspect the Dark Queen has her own reasons for keeping a two-way portal here in her realm. Whatever the reason may be, she does not allow any of the horrors of her realm to pass the doors; not even this Huntsman."

Rose asks (and recieves) some tea.

Berlon, without a motive for NOT thinking, has all his thoughts arrive at once. "You don't know what it's LIKE," he says to no one in particular, "don't you hear it? Can't you FEEL it? Don't you feel the pull? Am I the only one?"
Berlon, Vauhwyt, and Olyn feel it the worst, but the god-touch is still not here, the group is still in Koshe-Marr, even if the Inn seems... safe.
Lupe seems amused by the little fellow and drags her hands sensuously through Berlon's hair. "You want to leave me?", she pouts. "But move to our fireplace and read the Dwarven Doors to take you to a place other than the Inn."

Vorelle and her ... dog, definitely a dog; why did anyone ever think this long-muzzled sheperd-dog was a wolf? (Must've been the moonlight) Well, they go over to Berlon and try to see if there is anything the matter. The dog paces the ranger, it's red eyes reflecting in the lampglow.

Theodore moves to assist with Jack's body, and Lupe moves to toy (erm, talk!) with Berlon. In bending down to get Jack in the oiled canvas sack, Theodore notices Lupe's well-turned ankle peeking from beneath her skirts, and a shapely calf when the barmaid spins to another customer.

Dmitri's Tale [DM SteveK]
Tuesday August 1st, 2006 4:57:21 AM

When the Heroes talk of the Hunt, Dmitri announces he has a story for them of the Huntsman who they met and escaped with their souls.

"Lives are cheap and of little account", the dark-eyed gypsy intones, "but a soul is forever and trapped in Harrowed Moon never to see the Lands of Rest; the ability to speak its tale is often the only solace a soul has in Harrowed Moon. Listen and be warned!"

Once there was a crafty Ranger who learned of the fiendish hunts that occur in this area of Harrowed Moon, and he was determined to bring an end to the head of these Hunts. With the aid of a young witch, he fashioned arrows that would slay the Huntsman on a touch. And then, the Ranger hunted the Huntsman.

How many miles he tracked, how many hours he lay in wait, how many deprivations he endured? Yet his quarry eluded his grasp time and again. Watching for many years, the Ranger knew the Huntsman didn't want a challenge, he wanted blood on his hands. And so the preferred victims were innocents that could not fight back. And that was how he baited his trap; with an Innocent of a nearby village.

But the Huntsman has eyes everywhere, and he knew of the trap and sent his trolls to capture the Ranger. Many trolls were slain, but at last the Ranger was subdued and brought before the Huntsman's Lodge.

"You may choose to spare the life of the Innocent, or your own", grinned the Huntsman triumphantly. And what choice did the Ranger have but to spare the child? And then, the Huntsman began. Cutting around the wrist, the neck, and from chest to belly, the Huntsman pulled the skin off of the Ranger first. Then he was boiled until the meat fell from his bones, and his skeleton hung up on the rafter of the Huntsman's Lodge.

The meat is gone, and the skeleton is imprisoned in the Huntsmans Lodge, but I heard this from the skin which is still able to tell its tale and warn others to Beware the Huntsman!

Olyn
Tuesday August 1st, 2006 12:03:09 PM

Thank you my friend for this gift.
What will you do now that your treasure is safely returned?
Turning to Lupe: excuse me good lady, could I get a glass of your finest for everyone in here tonight. Something white, fruity and crisp if you will?
*Olyn reaches into his money pouch and produces 3 ruby's worth 100g each and hands em to the lady*
I think this will be enough to cover it.

"Away from me!" Berlon hisses dismissively at Lupe with a wave of his hand. "I will not take part in your insanity."

He then moves over to Theodore and helps preserve the remains in the new container. "Let me have that, Theo," he says, although it is clearly not a request. He hefts the sack over his back and moves to inspect these Dwarven Statues. He will look to see if there is any visible door or portal.

The gypsy's story sends a chill through the mage's body. "There is so much pain in this place," he observes.

Standing, Theodore goes with Berlon to inspect the statues. (Spellcraft 22, Know. Arcana 33 natural 20)

Vauhwyt thanks the gypsies. "Your gift is thoughtful, and we are grateful for what you are willing to reveal to us."

She listens to Dmitri's tale and looks unhappy.

She says to her friend, Mittani: "But how did you get herre?" Her accent reveals her concern. "You're sure these friends of yours are coming? Wouldn't rather come back to Dirt City with us? Maybe this thing you seek is better left unsought."

Mookie pokes his head out of his pouch and chimes in. "Yeah, that's for sure! Maybe you got too much of that desert sand lodged in your brain, buddy. I can't see why anyone would want to come here, or being here, turn down a chance to get out!"

"Hush, Mookie!," says the liontaur, "but my rude feathered friend does have a point. Come home with us!"

Vorelle and the Canine to be Named Later
Tuesday August 1st, 2006 11:27:09 PM

Vorelle listens to Dmitri's tale, recoiling a little at the pain and cruelty of this place. She had thought of Dirt City as a harsh, vicious place, but now she sees that some places are even worse.

She keeps an eye on Berlon as he goes to investigate the doors; she's still worried about him.

The dog, meanwhile, is picking up the most amazing and tantalizing smells. His head turns to and fro, watching food go to tables and people begin to eat it. His ears are pricked forward, and his tail wags ever so slightly. Surely somebody here has a morsel to spare for a poor, brave, hungry dog....

Safe Haven Inn [DM SteveK]
Wednesday August 2nd, 2006 12:34:16 PM

Olyn hands over the gems and Lupe's eyes go wide. "For this you want wine and a fruit crisp?", she asks incredulously. "For this you can have me in every room of the Inn!" She snuzzles close and kisses his pointy ear before hurrying off into the kitchen, soon returning with flakey pastries with a sugary purplish mixture that is light and decadant.

Berlon and Theodore move the bag of Jack over to the fireplace and the two Dwarven statues. Each statue bears a name plate; one says "Caravan" and the other says "Dirt City".

Vauhwyt urges her desert friend to come to Dirt City, and it looks like the bronzed man considers it. Briefly. But he shakes his black hair back and forth slowly. "No, my tawney friend. I must abide here until my companions arrive, and then it is to Koshe-Marr that I travel." He helps the others move towards the fireplace, and looks at the two statues. "But touch the dwarf you wish, and the gateway will be opened."

Rose asks a simple question: "If this is true, what happened to the arrows?" At this Dmitri moves with grace to kneel beside the halfling maiden. "Lovely creature", the dark man begins, his eyes never leaving Rose, "but for an hour of your time behind a door, and I will tell you all you would wish."

Vorelle and Dog go see the Dwarven statues as well. Dog is able to gather some scraps from the tables, and nevermind that none are meat, they still taste good!

Jilla seems in a huff with Olyn being pawed over by Lupe and Dmitri giving unmistakable sparks towards Rose. Abruptly, she stands and announces to the other gypsies "Come, it is time to go!". Leaving a warm kiss on Rose's hand, Dmitri stands and moves protectively beside the gypsy girl. Jilla goes to the Dwarven statue marked "Caravan" and touches an arm.

Immediately, the fire dies, and all can see a tunnel leading back into the wall. Jilla leads, followed by the three gypsies with Dmitri last of all. One by one they walk into the empty fire, and when the last has passed, the fire flares up anew.

Looking at the dwarven statue, the writing now reads "Addis Amman"

Olyn
Wednesday August 2nd, 2006 12:44:26 PM

2 kisses, 2 girls, same day. Olyn feels a bit light headed.
and without thinking (kinda like king arthur in excalibur) he takes the pastry Lupe offers and bites into it without pondering the meaning, any meaning it may or may not represent. and smiles at the beautiful lady.

realizing the gypsies are leaving, Olyn turns to them as they depart and waves goodbye, staring particularly at Jilla as she huffs her self away and sighs. than, turning to Lupe he says: I thank you for a wonderful pastry and the fine flirting, it helped ease my mind for a moment but we must get going home as well. and with that said he goes to the dwarf with the Dirt City writing and touches its' arm. watching the fire die down and the tunnel form, he turns and tosses Lupe a emerald (50g) and says: buy yourself a new pair of shoes and a nice dress, and have a nice night on me. and then smiling, he turns and heads down the tunnel.

Dietrich
Wednesday August 2nd, 2006 4:41:45 PM

Dietrich is just happy to leave this dreaded place. He feels hatred of the Huntsman and will make a pray for the brave ranger.

The warrior takes a last bite and drink and than turns to touch the dwarf and get back "home". Dirt City is still in turmoil and who knows what expects them there now...

Jack the Ghost
Wednesday August 2nd, 2006 5:22:22 PM

Jack watches as his boduy is wrapped in oil. He is a bit fisconcerted when they move his body, and his new form is dragged along. Eyeing the stranger talking with Vauhwyt, Jack sees something familiar.

"Hey, Mittani. Gianni, Desert walker. I know you. Cant recall from where, but I lnow you. Anyway, I seen you heal our lioness, was wondering if you could do anything to help my cause. Granted I like being a ghost it was fun nd all, but bwing human is fumner. So any help?"

He watches as two of his companions walk back to their ealm. Clearing his throat, if he had a ythroat, "Hey, someone pack my body, k??"

"We should get home and see what we can do about our friend's...situation," he says to the group. Then he follows Olyn.

"Where's Addis Aman?" asks Vauhwyt as she munches on a pastry. "I wish we could go therre!" But before she can suggest striking out for parts unknown, Olyn, Dietrich, and Theo all head into the dwarf-tunnel. Curious, she asks the tavern patrons and staff about this destination.

But Vauhwyt sees her friends start to depart, and is sad to leave Mittani so suddenly. Then a thought comes to her.

"Hey! Was one of your friends an elf?" she asks Mittani. She describes the elf the party met.

Mookie adds, "You better hope that that wasn't one of your frinds!"

Vauhwyt says, "Yes, I'm afraid the elf we met outside is now dead. And after hearing Dmitri's Tale, I'm even more afraid for that poor elf. I wish we could have taken his body here with us, but we barely made it out alive. And as you saw, one of us didn't."

If Mittani has no idea who that elf was, then she asks the tavern staff. She asks for a mug of mulled wine, and tells the story of the valiant elf who fell in the Nightmare Realm. Maybe the liontaur can send word to a friend or next of kin?

While Vauhwyt is talking to the staff, Mookie says, "By the way, was there any change from those gems? If so, you can give it to me and I'll see it gets back to Dirt City."

Vauhwyt makes sure that we have MadJack's body as well as the scrolls from the Gypsies.

Finally it is time to go. She knows that Mittani is reserved, but she gives him a great big hug anyway. As she hugs him, she slips a potion of Cure Moderate Wounds into his pocket -- and lifts a small item from the bronze man as well. Mookie, seeing what his boss is doing, helps out with a kiss and a distracting flutter.

Sleight of Hand Aid Another roll from Mookie is a 20 to give V a +2; Vauhwyt's roll is a 19 -- a failure! Instead, she just puts the potion in her friend's pocket obviously and says, "Take this healing potion, please. Where you are going you may need it!"

She turns before he can refuse, grabs her mug of mulled wine, and heads for home.

Hey cayzle, not to be the devil's advocate, but, isn't some things done that you wouldnt know if you succeeded or not, like trying to use sleight of hand to take and give something to someone. I mean, you said you were slipping something into his pocket and trying to take something at the same time, but when you realized you had failed, you changed it to you just giving him something. that's just my 13 cents worth.

"Well, Olyn, I wouldn't feel too special about getting those kisses," he says over his shoulder as he mimics the action he saw before, trying to activate the Dirt City statue, "I don't think that club is particularly exclusive..."

With that he will heft the sack over his shoulder and, hopefully, head back to Dirt City...

Rose isnt used to men talking to her the way Dimitri has. She just stays close to Vauhwyt and stares not knowing what to say

Ups, Tim, this time I disagree. For some skills, like Forgery, the PHB says the DM makes the roll in secret so you do not know if you suceed or fail. There is no mention of secret rolling for the Sleight of Hand description. So I think that Vauhwyt would know if she had failed to slip a potion into the target's pocket.

Yup, it is possible that Mittani will realize that Vauhwyt was both giving and taking. That's why she tried to cover and then high-tailed it out of there! Literally, with her tail high! :-)

Vorelle, too, is anxious to go home.

When she realizes the dog is begging, she gently tries to stop it. "Th-that's n-not p-p-p-polite," she tells him. He wags his tail, looking unrepentant.

With a sigh, she takes him over to the portal that will take them all back to Dirt City.

To Dirt City [DM SteveK]
Thursday August 3rd, 2006 3:53:19 PM

The pastries and drinks are excellent, light and sugary and delicious.

Olyn touches the dwarven statue for Dirt City and the tunnel forms. After he tosses Lupe the emerald, she calls back "On you was where I was planning to have a nice night!" Anyone with a Listen DC 15, she continues under her breath Highlight to display spoiler: {and we may get that chance sooner than you think!"}

Dietrich is already thinking about what troubles await them in Dirt City as he follows Olyn into the tunnel.

Jack manifests, and all his friends can see that GhostJack is still alive (well, sort of) and kicking (well, sort of!). His feet are attached to his body, so as the canvas bag is moved, Jack is moved with it. He calls out to Mittani to see if the man has any other spells like... Raise Dead?

Theodore, with heavy heart, follows Olyn and Dietrich and a manifested GhostJack into the tunnels.

Vauhwyt wonders about Addis Amman, and speaks (and plays) with Mittani. And it seems that it is the adventurer that comes up with all the answers.
"Addis Amman is my homeland", the bronzed man says quietly. "The statues seem to take the heart's desire and I yearn to see my birthplace once more. Yet it is cruel, for I may never again walk the sands and oasis' of Addis Amman."
"An elf who fought with a greatsword? I fear it was one of my companions. And if you saw him alone, the sorcerer his twin must also be lost. Already this land is becoming a trap for me." He thinks for a minute, and then straightens. "Perhaps if I return to the Wold with you, I may be able to help your ghostly companion."
Mittani niether acknowledges the intimate embrace, slipped potion, or abortive pocket picking, but will move with the Dirt City Heroes into the tunnel.

Berlon gives Olyn some words of wisdom, hefts the canvassed body of Jack over a shoulder, and tromps into the tunnel.

Rose is flummoxed at Dmitri's demeanor, but as he leaves with Jilla, it makes it easier for the lady-halfling to follow her liontaur friend down the fireplace tunnel.

Vorelle sighs, and she and her new red-eyed dog venture into the tunnel that will take them back to Dirt City.

The tunnel is long and soon the light from the taproom behind them is gone from view. At the same time, each hero realizes that they aren't in a tunnel anymore. Instead, wisps of fog like octopus tentacles curve around close-set buildings. After a moment, the sharp eyed realize that they are in the Backstab Quarter, only a block or so away from that abandoned storefront that the group had spent the first night after the mob attacked the Prince's Palace.

Other than it being a foggy night, there is nothing to tell them when it is, or how long they actually were trapped in the mists and lavender moon of Koshe-Marr.

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Thursday August 3rd, 2006 4:16:44 PM

Vauhwyt smiles very widely at Mitani. "I'm really sorry your friends died, but I'm glad you'll be coming home with us! We'll show you the sights!"

She'll take back her potion, though, since Mittani won't be needing it.

As they walk in the long corridor, Mookie complains. "Was that some kind of adventure? Where's the treasure? Where's the loot? Everyone knows that good adventures have loot! All we got was that crummy body bag."

Vauhwyt says, "We got out alive, which is more than I can say for poor Jack! So be grateful and hush!"

"Hey Boss!" Mookie exclaims. "That gives me an idea!" The bird flaps to the liontaur's shoulder and whispers too low for anyone else to hear.

"Wowsy!" says Vauhwyt when the bird is done. "What a great idea!"

Berlon looks around, trying to gather his bearings. "Right, Backstab," me mutters as he gets oriented.

He turns to face the group. "I will perform the kadorto. I, I mean, we, have two choices in front of us. Let's attempt the least painful of the two first. Time is of the essence."

With that, he hefts the sack over his shoulder again and sets off. "We need to find Neezer as soon as possible..."

Jack /the Ghost
Thursday August 3rd, 2006 5:27:57 PM

Jack floats along feeling an odd sense of relief entering Dirt City.

Dietrich
Thursday August 3rd, 2006 5:43:46 PM

When Dietrich realizes they´re really back in "cosy" Dirt City, the warrior holds his ammulet of DOmi in his hands a prays thankfully. That Koshe-Marr has been the worst place he´s been too, and for himself, he won´t return there so fast.

"Well, first priority should probably be to raise Jack from the dead, before his body starts decomposing... And we should have a look at the scrolls too."

Other than that, the knight trys to remember where they stood before being dragged to those horrible lands. What was our plan again?

Theodore & Macaw  d20+4=8 d20+15=17
Thursday August 3rd, 2006 7:35:12 PM

"We were on our way to the Prince's tower to look for loot," Theodore answers Dietrich's unspoken question.

"Could I have a look at those scrolls," he asks Vauhwyt. If she passes the documents over, Theodore's first act will be to cast detect magic on the bundle. (Spellcraft check 17 to determine school of magic if indeed magical)

He then unrolls one of the scrolls and quickly peruses the contents as they walk.

Her boots once again treading the cobbles of Dirt City, Vorelle instinctively falls into her accustomed role: looking and listening. [Spot 29, Listen 15]

She also spends some time wondering why her dog has red eyes. [Knowledge: Nature 16]

She will help her companions with whatever tasks are at hand, but once they're done, she has another errand. She'd like to find a druid.

*Listen check of 12, fail*

Olyn taps Theo on his left shoulder from behind.
When Theo turns around he sees an Invisible Olyn appear. (wills it to drop)
And raises a satchel up so he can see that he has it, not Vauhwyt.

I agree with Dietrich, let us take Jack to the temple, and there Theo you can examine the contents of this satchel.

Vauhwyt extra (to Vorelle)
Friday August 4th, 2006 6:38:16 AM

Seeing Vorelle and her dog makes Vauhwyt think of something. "Hey Vorelle, you know I used to work in a magic shop? I still sub in there sometimes when they get busy. Well, they started carrying this new magic item I think you might be interested in." The liontaur describes this item to her friend.

She also offers the dog her hand to sniff.

Safe(?) and Sound in Dirt City [DM SteveK]
Friday August 4th, 2006 4:26:02 PM

Vauhwyt is happy her friend Mittani accompanied them, and speaks with Mookie.

Berlon is certain the first step should be to find Neezer and looks for a way out of the Backstab Quarter.

Jack floats along behind Berlon and quite attached to the canvas bag. He is manifested, and EVERYONE CAN SEE A GHOSTLY JACK following Berlon.

Dietrich is VERY thankful he is safe (?) back in Dirt City, but knows their first priority should be to raise Jack from the dead, but also wonders about the scrolls.

Theodore also wonders about the scrolls, and asks to have them so he can cast a detection on them right here in the middle of the street, at night, in the Backstab Quarter of Dirt City???

Vorelle's instincts are good, for though she doesn't hear anything but the normal night sounds of drunken song and a far off street fight, her eye quickly notice that there is a single person sneaking a peek from around a corner about 40 feet away. She gets the feeling there is another person on a roof above her, but she doesn't know where.
For having red eyes, Vorelle just doesn't know why; the dog certainly is not an albino...

Olyn too can hear the normal Backstab Quarter sounds of drunken song and a nearby street fight. He tries to sneak up on Theodore, but alas! the invisibility was dispelled as soon as he had crossed the threshold of the Safe Haven Inn! Olyn does show his wisdom by suggesting that they go to the Temple before distracting themselves with the scrolls.

Rose suggests that the priests may know how to help Samule and she hopes the Huntsman won't hurt him.

Mittani stands, his fighting reflexes ready as he looks around the Backstab Quarter. "Whatever you decide, my friends" he says quietly, "I suggest you go somewhere safe and hidden before you notify your city that you brought a ghost into the Wold." with a nod, he indicates Jack's disembodied spirit that floats above the canvas sack.
"I know the proper spell to help you, should you want to keep his status from prying eyes. Yet you must find someplace safe at once!"

Vorelle Highlight to display spoiler: { the figure looking at you from the alley notices you looking around and pulls back to deeper shadow around the corner and disappears from view }

Vasuhwyt and Mookie
Friday August 4th, 2006 4:40:04 PM

Vauhwyt smells Dirt City's above-ground odors and chuckles. "It was sure fun, running for our lives from supernatural evil, but I like being home, running for our lives from mundane evil!"

"Friends, Mittani here can cast the spells we need. Let's head for that safe house we know that's a block away -- now, before anyone sees us." (She does not know that Vorelle has spotted anybody.)

She says to Mittani, "It's really much nicer underground."

Olyn

Jack /the Ghost
Friday August 4th, 2006 6:25:39 PM

Upon hearing that Mittani can cast the spells to help him he pipes.

"Mittani, I would rather be in your debt forever than one of the temples. So if you have the time, I would appreciate your services. Vauhwyt, my large friend I hope you never die running from evil. But it isnt all bad."

Theodore blushes when Olyn suggests patience with the scrolls. "I'm sorry, Olyn. Of course, you're right."

The young mage agrees with Vauhwyt's suggestion to move to the safe house. "The closer, the better," he says. "I can keep watch while Mr. Mittani looks over Jack."

For his part, the dog uses his nose to try to locate opponents.

"Someplace safe?" he mutters, "SOMEONE is new to the city..."

Hey lads and lasses!

Just got back to work from a two weeks holiday. I'm still on DM vacation (for a long time) and will be lurking in the back from now on.

I will check with SteveK and Shegger if any Xp has been rewarded for the KM module and if not I will send it out as soon as possible.

Good thing is I see you got back to DC ;-)

Dietrich would prefer to go directly to a Temple, agreeing with Rose´s doubts about the safety of the "safe-place", but if this Mitanni can do the magic...

But before anything, Vorelle warns the party about someone watching. Not wanting to call attention, the warrior doesn´t take the bow for now and continues casually moving towards the Temple, but trying to spot the observer:

He thinks to himself: "&$%$&. Not a minute of peace in this ¨%$¨ city!"
