Safe (?) and Sound in Dirt City [SteveK] d20+5=16 Monday August 7th, 2006 1:38:55 PM
Thoughts and words run from person to person. Should we go to the close-by safe house? Should we go to the Temple? Should we find out who is watching us? Vauhwyt, Theodore, and Jack all vote for the safe-house, with Dietrich and Rose for the Temple, and no concern other than (relative) safety for the others. But first, who is watching you?
Vorelle notes the watcher in the alley has pulled back and is no longer there. Neither does Dog notice anyone around with all the other strange smells in the area (Survival:16) Scared off or very well hidden, looking for him serves no useful purpose, and so the group is off to the old safe-house.
They haven't used the house in the Backstab Quarter since the night they escaped from the Palace, and it doesn't appear to have been used in that time, either.
The pimp and ladies-of-the-evening don't seem to be around thier corner, but the trap door is still there, and the group with Mittani descends into the hidey hole.
"I'm going to need assistance in setting out your companion and to make my preparations", says the thin Mittani. His black eyes reflect the lightsources of the underground area as he looks at the ghostly form of Jack hovering over his own body. "You are bound in a way I do not understand", the robed cleric admits uneasily, "I only can pray to all the gods that my spell will be enough."
With that, he begins his preparations.
Olyn Monday August 7th, 2006 2:37:06 PM
Assists Mittani.
Dietrich d20+4=16 d20+4=6 Monday August 7th, 2006 4:23:21 PM
Dietrich didnīt like it, that the watcher escaped. Hopefully he didnīt see where the party went.
The knight keeps his bow ready and his senses alert. Seeing Jackīs ghost isnīt particularly pleasing too, he certainly prefers souls to stay put to their bodies... Letīs see what this Mittani can do. Spot 16, listen 6
Jack /the Ghost Monday August 7th, 2006 6:40:13 PM
Jack is surprosed at his own giddiness. He cant wait to be born again, literally!!
Theodore & Macaw d20+4=17 d20+4=6 Monday August 7th, 2006 7:04:17 PM
Theodore's natural curiosity of what Mittani plans to do wars with the creepiness of dealing with dead bodies, especially the dead bodies of his friends.
Sighing, he decides to sit by the door to the outside and keep an eye out for baddies. (Spot 17, Listen 6)
Vauhwyt Monday August 7th, 2006 7:51:13 PM
Vauhwyt watches Mittani. "Good Luck, Jack!" she calls to her ghostly friend.
Vorelle and the Canine to be Named Later d20+11=21 d20+11=30 Monday August 7th, 2006 10:47:03 PM
The dog noses around the small space, investigating the dozens of fascinating smells to be found in here.
Vorelle steps up next to Dietrich and helps him keep watch.

Adm Ceil - Ise that you Adm do not do the Monday Posting Report, So this time I did It, just to keep all ove you out of trouble!
Spell and Gate [SteveK] Tuesday August 8th, 2006 2:35:39 PM
The biege robes of Mittani flutter as he lays Jack's body on the dirt floor and moves around the room. From a pouch he pulls a fistful of gems which he scatters over the corpse and begins chanting in an the ancient language of High Woldian.
He sways and his hands dart out in intricate passes, his sonorous voice rising and falling, modulating to an unseen current. At first, Berlon and Olyn feel the vibrations, followed closely by Vauhwyt. But soon all feel the ripples in the air directly over the still form of Jack.
And soon, soon... there is a black doorway in the air. Mittani slumps as if exhausted, his weather scarred voice in quiet command.
"I have done what I can, opening a door to the Lands of Rest." The black eyes glance at each of the heroes in turn. "Now you must go and see the Lord of Life and Death. You must convince him that Jack should return to the living Wold. You must all go, for together you may accomplish what none can do by himself."
He points to the black doorway.
Jack Highlight to display spoiler: { finds his ghostly form can't leave his body except by going into the dark gate. }
Olyn Tuesday August 8th, 2006 4:30:11 PM
Oh great, we leave a realm of unknown horror to go stand before Gargul. Out of the pan and into the fire.
Shrugging, Olyn steps through saying: lets get this over with. I am getting hungry.
Vauhwyt Tuesday August 8th, 2006 4:47:34 PM
Vauhwyt shrugs, picks up Jack's Body Bag and Body, and passes through.
"Come on, Jack, it's your party!"
On her way, she looks back at Mittani and calls her thanks!
Theodore & Macaw Tuesday August 8th, 2006 5:44:50 PM
Theodore turns when the black doorway opens. Taking a deep breath, he follows Olyn and Vauhwyt through the doorway.
I'm going to meet...Gargul, he thinks.
Vorelle and the Canine to be Named Later Tuesday August 8th, 2006 11:08:34 PM
Suddenly, Vorelle realizes she hasn't been paying attention.
They're going where? To do what?!
Frantically, she starts to wonder if she liked Mad Jack all that much.
But no. Jack had risked--given--his life to save theirs. They must try to get him back. It is what heroes did. Vorelle just wishes she wasn't trembling quite so much.
"S-s-s-s-s-stay," she tells the dog, and follows her companions into the unknown.
Jack the Troll Tuesday August 8th, 2006 11:14:44 PM
Jack had been bowing towards Mittani. When the new instructions are given jack begins to laugh quite loudly.
"Mittani, I had no desire to owe a God or churdch any favors. So, guess I receive the other evil. Well sir, If I do return to the living, I am forever in your blood debt. Yayaya, I know blah blah blah. You tell mer I owe you nothing. As a scar, this will be a part of me forever, I owe you. Just dont ask anything that might get me killed again!" He cannot contol the hideous laughter, "Just kidding, anything anytime."
Turning and walking through the door he notices he no longer is hooked to his body. This whole death thing is mighty strange.
"Of to see the Gods, I would feel better if this was a yellow brick road."
Berlon 22/39 AC 20 Tuesday August 8th, 2006 11:45:43 PM
Berlon mutters under his breath at some of the comments, but holds his tongue as best he can. As the stranger performs the ritual, the gnome keeps a keen eye on him. Once everything is completed, he listens to Mittani's words, and narrows his eyes.
"No."
Pointing to Mittani, he says, "Mittani seems weakened, so someone should stay here and stand guard. I volunteer."
Berlon bites his bottom lip and seems to be shaking slightly...
Mittani [SteveK] Wednesday August 9th, 2006 12:23:37 AM
The bronzed head shakes slowly. "While you are gone, no time will pass, so do not fear for me. Reserve your fear for your friend. If you care so little for him, do not meet the god."
"He is not evil, for death is not an evil condition. Yet he is powerful, and jealous of his proper respect. Be warned before you speak."
Rose [sub-SteveK] Wednesday August 9th, 2006 12:26:36 AM
Rose stares dumbfoundedly at the black gate. "I thought... eep!"
Vauhwyt is already moving, and so the little halfling runs through the doorway to the scanty protection of the liontaur's side.
Dietrich Wednesday August 9th, 2006 8:21:23 AM
"WHAT???"
The warrior is quite surprised and annoyed at the news... He surely didnīt want to meet Gargul!
"&Ļ$&Ļ%. Why couldnīt we just raise him, like any normal adventuring party.."
As everybody already entered though, Dietrich follows, silently swearing to himself.
Cayzle OOC Wednesday August 9th, 2006 10:16:26 AM
Just to let everyone in the group know how the Wold works, EVERY time a character is raised in the Wold, the deceased's friends have to meet with Gargul to plead for his life back. That's how all "normal adventuring parties" do it.
Well, on second thought, maybe not every time. But the exceptions are very rare indeed.
Jack Wednesday August 9th, 2006 10:29:22 AM
With what Cayzle just wrote, guess my life rests in the groups'proverbial' hands. Sure hope I havnt alienated anyone, hehehe.
Guest DM Jan Hi Gang! Wednesday August 9th, 2006 11:18:03 AM
Stepping through Mittani's doorway (which remains open) alerts the senses to a thin breeze that smells faintly of ozone. There is darkness beyond that door, and for a long moment, arrival at Gargul's Realm, or any other realm for that matter, seems beyond everyone's reach. But then the blackness begins to flake away, like oxide caked around corroding metal. Pieces of landscape appear, and the group now appear to be standing on top of a hill. It appears to be twilight, and land rolls away on all sides, darkening and gradually becoming insignificant.
In the distance, along the spine of the hilltop, a man can be seen, perhaps two hundred feet away. Dark hair, average height, wearing clothes a traveler would wear. There is a smaller figure stood beside him. This figure is hooded, it's face hidden. The ground surrounding these two figures appears to be in shadow, although there is nothing in the vicinity to cast such a thing.
The taller man beckons to the party.
BigTim Wednesday August 9th, 2006 11:21:51 AM
hmm, Jack's check bounced. Hey Gargul. How about returning him as a 2 legged dog. Like 1 front leg and an opposite rear leg. And have him appear outside a Kobold camp.
Olyn Wednesday August 9th, 2006 11:33:15 AM
After waiting a few moments to adjust to the new surroundings, Olyn, like the others, sees the 2 people ahead. Turning to the others he says: so, who is going to speak for the group, and what do we offer this God? And 1 more thing. Arrogance, Snobiness, Holier than Thou attitudes stay right here. Any sign of disrespect to him and you can say goodbye to Jack and possibly yourself and Us as well. Remember, we are Meeting a God or a representative of the God, which is the same as meeting with Him. As an afterthought he pipes in again: And for the love of Mike, sheath / unstrung / holster your weapons. Not like they'd be of any use to you except your own death down here. <*> Olyn waits for any discussions before moving With the group <*>
<**> and for those that didnt know, holstering a weapon in medievil times was what you did when you put up a weapon that didn't have a proper sheath, ie, hanging a mace or hammer on your belt <**>
<***> Olyn unstrings his crossbow, and holsters his mace, and puts his shield on his back <***>
Vauhwyt d100=96 Wednesday August 9th, 2006 11:35:25 AM
Vauhwyt knows she should be afraid, but her religious training calms her, and she has steady nerves, for which she silently thanks the Lady of Shadows. But Mookie has more than enough fear for the two of them. The raven burrows as deep as possible into his pouch, trembling silently. Vauhwyt knows that she does not have to tell the bird to hush ... she doubts that Mookie could say a word even if he wanted to.
Vauhwyt casts a quick prestidigitation to smooth her hair, take the blood out of her clothes, and try to look presentable. (arcane spell failure check is fine.) She makes sure her weapons are all put away, as Olyn suggests.
Then, placing a hand on Rose's arm -- her other hand steadies Jack's body in its bag over her shoulder and back -- Vauhwyt says softly, "Come on, friends. Let us make out plea to the Lord of Death. Olyn is wise, and I agree with him exactly. And like Mittani said, let us be on our best and most respectful behaviorr." The burr of an accent in her voice and the twitch of her tail betray's the liontaur's nervousness.
Vauhwyt adds, in response to Olyn, "If we need one of us make our case, I have an idea about what to say to the Lord of the Afterlife, an argument that may lead him to return Jack to us alive."
When the group is done talking, then she heads toward the figure before them, walking slowly for the sake of those in the group with shorter legs.
Rose [sub-SteveK] Wednesday August 9th, 2006 2:24:02 PM
Sticking close to her friends in the darkness, Rose's eyes grow wide at the black peeling away into a hillside.
Belatedly, she complies with Olyn's suggestions and makes sure her weapons are sheathed before quietly following along.
Eyes still wide, Rose only nods for someone else to do the talking.
Gargul? Gargul? We're g-g-going to t-t-talk to GARGUL? Her mind spins around on the same subject...
Theodore & Macaw Wednesday August 9th, 2006 2:32:24 PM
Theodore gulps before moving closer to the beckoning figure. He is content to let Vauhwyt plea, adding his voice if she gets into trouble.
Jack /the Ghost Wednesday August 9th, 2006 6:54:12 PM
Jack listens to the apprehensions of his friends. For his own part, there is no trepidation. When Olyn gives his speech, Jacks brain returns to an old saying, something like, 'the pot calling the kettle black. Well cant remeber the meaning now.
Vorelle Thursday August 10th, 2006 12:39:23 AM
Vorelle swallows hard. When a god beckons to you, you go.
At Olyn's advice, she stashes her bow in her magical quiver and ties the quiver shut. She slips the peacebonding loops onto her axes, just as if she were going Below.
How she wishes she were going Below!
Taking a deep breath, she follows her companions.
Dietrich Thursday August 10th, 2006 8:21:54 AM
Dietrich listens to his friends and is more than happy to let Vauhwyt do the talking. But he suggests for Olyn to talk too, as heīs a cleric, more used to contact with such high powers, and as he should be a balancing force to Vauhwytīs sometimes impulsive behaviour.
The warrior keeps his weapons sheathed. The last thing heīd try is to threaten GARGUL!
Heīll keep behind, but ready to help out with his in dirt city acquired diplomacy skills, if necessary.
Olyn Thursday August 10th, 2006 11:40:27 AM
smiles at D and nods an agreement.
Guest DM Jan Thursday August 10th, 2006 12:17:29 PM
As the group approach, the man's features become more prominant. It's a handsome face, one that a tavern bard would give his left eye for, although - a little closer - it seems as though that beautiful face has been scarred; tiny little wounds healed over, as though the man is currently healing from some kind of skin disease. He's maybe about 5' 11", average build, his posture easy and relaxed, shiny dark hair curling at his collar.
The small figure beside him still remains hidden, the short, narrow frame completely drowned in an over-large robe and cowl.
The man takes two steps forward as the group approach, and as he moves, the shadow on the ground moves with him, although this close, it becomes apparent that it is not a shadow at all. Dead grass, withered and grey, surrounds him on all sides, and there is a trail of it in his wake. Beside him, the small figure is shivering, as if cold.
Rose, Dietrich, Vorelle, Olyn, Vauhwyt, Theo and Berlon (?) suddenly feel a sharp pain, like someone has touched the skin on their left shoulder with a small, but very hot branding iron. Jack... feels nothing.
Now approximately ten feet away, the dead grass extending about five feet in front of him, the man smiles pleasantly. the voice is a deep purr, but commanding nonetheless. "I suspect I have you at the advantage. You were expecting Gargul, were you not? Now, show me what you have brought."
Jack /the Ghost Thursday August 10th, 2006 1:55:41 PM
Jack is quite confused. He lacks the ability to feel physically, but he realizes, emotions are gone as well. He knew that Vauhwyt had volunterred to speak for the group, but for some reason his mouth opens.
"Grought? Well, I would have brought a gift of some sort, in trade for the ressurection of my body. But, what do you buy a God? I figure he has or can get anything he wants, so my gift would seem inconsquentiual. Wow, that was a big word, kinda hard to say. But anyway, I was going to offer my allrgiance to Gargul. Allegiance, hmm sounds petty huh. Since im new at the whole talking to Gods thing, I ended up deciding to allow Gargu; to set the terms of my life. Whether that lie continues in the Wold, or the Shadow."
Rose [sub-SteveK] Thursday August 10th, 2006 2:23:13 PM
Rose's fear quickens when she notices the dead grass that follows the apparently handsome man. Death and life. Without thinking, Rose leans closer into the tawny fur of Vauhwyt's hind-quarters. "Please, we... we just brought Jack."
Tearing her eyes from the man, Rose looks at the bag that holds the body of thier friend.
Vauhwyt Thursday August 10th, 2006 2:39:41 PM
Vauhwyt wonders if her fear could be true ... that this is not Gargul at all. Jack and Rose do not seem to grasp the significance of the figure's disease, or of the words that chill the liontaur's heart: "I suspect I have you at the advantage. You were expecting Gargul, were you not?"
If He is who she thinks He may be, then she is doubly, no, infinitely glad that Berlon did not enter the dark door, and she hopes that he will not do so. Maybe some foreboding warned the cleric of Alemi -- but warned or not, she envies him, oh she envies him, in his decision not to step through the door.
As it is, maybe a group escorted by a servant of the Lucky God and a servant of the Dark Lady may be able to pass this test and hope to remain alive. But Vauhwyt has no illusions, and does not expect to emerge untainted. She feels the pain in her shoulder and suspects that she has already been touched.
But there was nothing for it but to go forward. The liontaur bows low, stretching, her face mere inches from the ground. Still almost prone, she says, "Great Lord, we come in the hope of ressurecting our fallen comrade, Jack. Here is his body and his soul. Humbly, we have brought him to you, and we seek to survive your test and become stronger by it."
She removes the body from the bag and places it under Jack's spirit. She tucks the bag away and bows again.
Olyn Thursday August 10th, 2006 3:28:10 PM
Just as Vauhwyt, Olyn bows deeply before this God. But says nothing.
Theodore & Macaw Thursday August 10th, 2006 6:22:11 PM
Theodore's stomach turns at "Gargul's" words.
Marteaus! he thinks, in horror.
Again he tries to swallow, but it doesn't seem to go down.
Berlon OOC Thursday August 10th, 2006 8:09:52 PM
OOC: Ok, I am confused. Vauhywt and I are under the assumption Berlon didn't go through. Regarding this Gargul Approves Ressurections, where is that on the rules? I didn't see anything about it under the house rules page.
~~Guest DM Jan~~ David, what does your character want to do? If he's truly frightened then maybe the others might forgive him for staying behind. But someone has to go and stand before the deity. But I need you to post, then I know what you want to do. Otherwise, I have to assume something. It's not a rule as such, more of a role play tradition :)
Vorelle Thursday August 10th, 2006 11:27:04 PM
Vorelle pauses momentarily to let her heart settle into the bottom of her boots. Not Gargul? If this isn't Gargul, then who is it?
Vorelle isn't sure. The one thing she is sure of is she's glad she doesn't have to talk. Yet.
Dietrich Friday August 11th, 2006 8:20:06 AM
Not knowing all too much about religion, besides that you better do respect the deities and do not annoy them, Dietrich doesnīt suspect anything at the sight of this entity. It talks strangely, but itīs a god after all. The warrior also doesnīt know what his more experienced friends seem to suspect.
So he bows too and continues staying where he is, hoping to get over this quickly and finally get back to a mundane place. He also hopes Jackīs irreverent speech wonīt do any harm.
Vauhwyt Extra Friday August 11th, 2006 12:33:18 PM
A fleeting thought crosses the liontaur's mind. The little guy is shaking. Could he be shaking, not with cold, but with laughter? Is it possible this is all a strange joke? Then Vauhwyt supresses that thought -- in case it is not a joke, and in case the figure is reading thoughts!
Guest DM Jan Friday August 11th, 2006 3:43:51 PM
"Allegiance to Gargul, eh?" the man says in the direction of Jack's ghost. "You might want to rethink that. I am Marteaus, and your allegiance to me would set you on an entirely different path. Not unlike young Gideon, here." He gestures toward the small shivering figure alongside him.
Marteaus's attention then turns to the liontaur as she brings forth the body. "So. This is the body of Jack. Let's take a look." The body starts to rise and slowly leaves the ground, by all accounts of it's own accord. It hangs there in mid-air for a long moment, entrails dangling, before coming to rest on the ground once more.
"Suffered, indeed," says the God quietly, and then - "There will be no questions requiring deep, long-winded answers, here," he announces with a smile. "Instead, I'm in the mood to strike a bargain. Gideon, step forward. Show yourself."
From underneath the cowl, emerges the face of a boy - human, maybe five or seven years. His hair is already grey and his skin carries a sickly pallor. Shadow has buried deep troughs beneath the boy's eyes, and tiny beads of sweat pepper his forehead, as though his body is in the throes of fighting off some sickness or other. The boy smiles and gives the group a bow. His teeth have been filed to points.
"Gideon here has a task ahead of him. He looks quite ill, doesn't he. Do you feel sorry for him? If you saw him on the street, would you shun him, or try to get him help? He is, of course, not what he seems. "Now, here's the root of the bargain. Once Gideon has been set upon his task, you will not directly try to stop him, or directly hinder him. If you agree, I will reunite Jack with his soul and deliver him back to the living. "Or - "You give yourselves the choice to meddle in my affairs, Jack stays right where he is, in Koshe Marr, and no harm done." He shrugs. "I can put him to good use. He will take to murder quite well, I think. "So - what say you?"
Back in Dirt City, in the safe house, a breeze blows through the still open portal. It's an ill wind, carrying on it the scent of rot and decay.
Vauhwyt Friday August 11th, 2006 3:52:12 PM
Vauhwyt thinks about the last time the group unleashed a Tool of Marteaus on the Wold -- the Evil Book that corrupted the Prince of Dirt City and lost the party its patron. But what choice is there?
Vauhwyt bows low and says that she for one agrees with this bargain.
Theodore & Macaw Friday August 11th, 2006 4:32:22 PM
Theodore's fear becomes definite when the deity reveals himself. And then the terrible offer.
He looks hard at Gideon, and feels a sense of revulsion from the wretch's gruesome appearance.
But we can't compare the possibility of this creature's possible evils against the definite sacrifice that Jack made for us.
"I agree," Theodore says after Vauhwyt.
Olyn Friday August 11th, 2006 5:51:56 PM
Crossing his toes in his boots, Olyn, still bowing and looking at the ground says: I agree.
Jack the Ghost Friday August 11th, 2006 10:55:18 PM
Jack looksd over the so called God with suspition. The group seems to be agreeable, so this God must have asked something agreeable.
"Well sir, I figured the pennance for life renewed, would have been a personal one. Since I know nothing of these matters, I will defer to my friends here. I agree as well." Looking at the others he bows as well, an afterthought.
Rose [sub-SteveK] Friday August 11th, 2006 11:24:03 PM
not Gargul. oh... my... "But..." the littlest member of the group, frightened beyond discretion, feels the words just pour out of her. "But... We've fought Marteus' minions all the time! There was Ba'bac, and - and Mattison the elf, and Graitchen with all the blood in his room and the Book..." She shudders and can't look at Gideon directly.
"What if Gideon releases a disease in Dirt City like the Fey King did? I can't not help my family." Tears come to Rose's eyes, wrentched to the soul by this awful choice. "I've already l-lost Junior." And the last comes out a whisper amongst the sobs... "my brother."
Vorelle Saturday August 12th, 2006 11:32:22 AM
Allow this Gideon person to spread disease and kill people, or allow Jack to be made into some kind of tool that kills people?
Since that is no kind of choice at all, Vorelle remains silent.
Dietrich Monday August 14th, 2006 8:20:09 AM
Dietrich is terrified as he understands itīs Marteus, and not Gargul, before them.
Heīd agree with Vorelle, had she said anything. The "choice" is noone. He asks himself if what just happened is "normal". Why didnīt we meet with the Lord of Death, but with evil Marteus? And what would happen if the party breaks its agreement later?
The fighter remains silent. He wonīt give his deliberate yes to let this litle monster freely do any evil. Rose may be very right in her comments and, as much as he values his comrades, heīs learnt in the past that sometimes you have to sacrifice a soldier, in order to save the platoon.
The knight doesnīt accept Marteus jurisdiction over this matter (though heīs no cleric and doesnīt really know anything about it) and wonīt decide. As pragmatic as heīd normaly be, he isnīt willing to bargain with the essence of evil itself!
Guest DM Jan Monday August 14th, 2006 1:53:04 PM
Marteaus watches patiently, and the young Gideon pulls the cowl back over his head, his face hidden once again. The God smiles as Rose stammers out her misgivings.
"Oh, I understand, little one. And whatever you decide, I can only promise you more pain." He looks at the group as a whole. "Note that you have all been marked. If you agree to my terms of the resurrection, then this mark will remain, and if you disobey the terms and directly intervene with Gideon's task - whatever that might be, whenever that might be - then I'm sure my clerics will stop at nothing to hunt you down.
"Or, like I said, your dead friend here becomes a weapon in the delivering of suffering. Koshe Marr will reclaim that which belongs to it, and it has a long reach. That means you, ghost.
"Either choice pleases me. Both paths involve the pain of guilt and loss - both of them bitter daggers that strike at the heart and test the will. But be aware that each choice will set you on paths of different evils, different avenues of suffering. My purpose here is not to see you wallowing in the ills of the Wold, but to see you strike through it, obtaining clarity, and purpose.
"Now, a unanimous decision, if you please, or I'll take it as a 'no'."
Other scents roll out of the portal in the Dirt City safe house to join the rot and decay. Dead grass and moisture. Odd smells to be coming from Gargul's realm, which is usually associated with the scent of blood.
Olyn Monday August 14th, 2006 2:16:30 PM
With a look of anger coming across his face, Olyn says: I may of been hasty in my decision. I change my vote to No. I'll deal with the God of Death, not with the God of Disease and Pain. Perhaps sir you could tell us as to why Marteaus is in Gargul's realm and Why Marteaus is deciding who can be raised and who can't. It was my belief and the beliefs of others that Gargul was in charge of this.
My arrogance towards you may cause my death, but I will meet my maker knowing I stood to my conviction against the one God I detest and abhore to the center of my soul.

ADM BigTim <*> Thought I'd do our Posting Report since noone else in game seems to be doing it right now. Also, a couple of you are waiting til sunday and monday to make your posts for the previous week, or waiting til the next day to post for the previous day. Could you try posting on the right day? Would make figuring out the Posting Report alot easier. Thanks. <*>
Vauhwyt Monday August 14th, 2006 3:46:23 PM
"Well, my friend here makes it clearly not unanimous, so thank you for the choice, great one, and we'll be on our way."
Vauhwyt picks up Jack's body and backs away respectfully, hoping to get home before being struck dead or infected.
==========
If she gets back to Dirt City, Vauhwyt looks around to see if Jack's soul returned with his body.
non-Rose Post [Sub-SteveK] Monday August 14th, 2006 3:52:56 PM
not posting for Rose since Loretta should be back.
If she ain't, ....
It gets Rose's dander up to realize that the painful choice before them is another testing of the diseased god. And that makes her realize that a choice now doesn't preclude other choices, similarly painful, later.
"Olyn, please say 'yes'. This choice we have to make now." she turns to not-quite-look at Gideon. "And I choose to save Jack."
Jack Monday August 14th, 2006 5:20:05 PM
"Rosre, thank you very much. I will forever be in your debt. But, I also have to cjhange mymind. I have been told there are other Gods, maybe we can appeal to one of them. The price for life here is toogreat. So my answer is no. What is your name again, Marteus? Looks like if I ever return to the living, I will work against you. Your price is too high as stated."
Berlon 22/39 AC 20 Monday August 14th, 2006 5:53:40 PM
"They have a secret, you know."
Berlon shifts uncomfortably as he keeps slightly narrowed eyes on Mittani. He feels compelled to make small talk, if that's possible for the gnome.
"My companions, I mean." Berlon moves a little closer to Mittani, and suddenly giggles once. "They have a secret. A deep, dark, TERRIBLE secret, that dare not be spoke of."
"So here's a question for you," he starts slowly, in a not unfamiliar tone, "I do not understand why you would assume it should be us to appear before..." he trails off before finishing. "True, he fell by our side, but how presumptious is it for us to speak on his behalf? Does he not have relatives? Loved ones? We are more qualified to beseech on his behalf than they??"
He takes a moment to compose himself, giggles one more time, and continues. "I don't want to seem ungrateful, though. We have been through many difficult times lately, not to mention the death of one of our own. I thank you on behalf of my companions for your assistance."
He sits down against the wall and starts rocking ever so slightly. "But do you want to know the secret? In return for your assistance, let me give you this knowledge."
"BUT!" he exclaims with a finger in the air for effect, "you must swear to never, EVER reveal this information. Should our enemies learn this horrible fact, we shall all be doomed!"
"The secret is," he says just above a whisper, leaning close to Mittani's ear, "the terrible secret is this:"
"They will do anything you tell them to."
He sits back straight up, grinning wildly at Mittani, rocking back and forth...
Dietrich Monday August 14th, 2006 6:07:58 PM
Dietrich looks up as he hears Olynīs speech. As sad as it is, he agrees with the cleric. When Vauhwyt speaks, he says:
"Donīt put the blame for the sacrifice of Jack on Olyn. I canīt vote for accepting the deal with Marteus either. Not only because of my own honour , but because of what it would mean for I donīt know how many inocents.
If this evil entity says it will turn Jack into an evil tool and hunt us down, itīs a threat weīll have to live with. Weīve fought against its minions in the past and, for myself, we shall do it in the future, until we or it should perish. Should Marteus do evil to our comrade, itīll be his evil, and weīll fight it, so may the Gods help us. But at least it wonīt be our own behaviour thatīll be evil. No bargain can be made with Him.
As Jack said, there are other Gods in the Wold. Why should we, with two clerics of good deitys within us, deal with evil and accept its extorsion?
I vote to send Marteus to the %$Ļ%*&Ļ Hades. Should this cost my life now, so be it; to die fighting evil is a risk every warrior must assume. Domi will guard my soul till I join my ancestors!"
Vauhwyt (second post) Monday August 14th, 2006 7:00:22 PM
The liontaur continues to back away. The droop of her tail reveals that she now has very little hope of getting out alive.
Rose Monday August 14th, 2006 7:58:48 PM
ooc: Hi, I'm back! And steve you did a good job playing rose until the last post today, then you did the completly opposite thing. by the way never get into a car for a few hours with a 8 & 5 year old and the grandma because grandma lets them do anything they like including throwing chips & diaper wipes in aunt loretta's hair one day and on another pulling it, another screaming at the top of their lungs for 15 minutes.
in character:
Rose turns and looks at Jack her eyes full of tears as she remembers the suffering of her brother and all the others who were in the temple being taken care, all the ones in the streets who werent being taken care of and the stench from the funeral pyres as the bodies were burnt to prevent any more dieseases from spreading.
"Jack, you're my friend. But if I have to choose between your life and the life of hundreds of others, I'm sorry..." Rose's voice breaks off as she cries.
Theodore & Macaw Monday August 14th, 2006 9:09:44 PM
Theodore gulps as fear begins to overwhelm him. He doesn't look Mareaus in the eye, but imagines the god is glaring at his frail form as if it's all his fault.
Hearing that his friends are falling apart at the seams, letting their emotions get the best of them, Theodore decides Vauhwyt's course of action is the best. He slowly begins to back away toward the exit (if there still is one).
ADM Shegger Monday August 14th, 2006 9:11:03 PM
Don't worry about the posting reports, Tim. That's my job, and I usually do it in the evening. I'm used to doing them on Tuesdays, so this Monday thing is a bit of getting used to, but I'll take care of it. Thanks.
Vorelle Monday August 14th, 2006 9:18:26 PM
Vorelle blinks a little at the abrupt turn her companions have taken. Refusing is one thing, but do they need to go out of their way to annoy a god?
Nevertheless, the decision itself is one she can get behind.
"N-n-n-n-n-no, th-th-thank y-you," she stammers, barely audible. "S-s-s-s-sir. M-M-M-M-My L-L-Lord."

Gotcha Shegmeister
Guest DM Jan Tuesday August 15th, 2006 3:50:20 PM
Marteaus looks at the group for a long moment before replying.
"So, a change of heart?" he says eventually, addressing the entire group without any trace of wrath in his voice. "Why do I get the feeling that you didn't really listen to what I said? Eh, no matter. If you wish to torch all of your bridges, that is your choice. "Did you really think you could 'shop around?' Your friend here, had the misfortune to die in Koshe Marr, which might very well explain why you are standing before me, and not Gargul."
His voice now takes on a harder edge. "Look at you. You cower away from me, hoping to escape, and yet you display this casual attitude toward life. I daresay some drink-addled cleric or wizard has told you that resurrection is easy. You have no idea what joy it brings me to inform you otherwise. Do you think perhaps that giving up Jack is some kind of noble sacrifice? "Perhaps it could have been, but I saw little nobility here. Merely emotion, arrogance and selfishness."
"It is now time for pain and consequence. You -" he points at Olyn. "Your muddied emotions appear to have been the inspiration for this. Jack's death lies firmly on your shoulders. Let it be told throughout the Wold, and may the burden clear your head and give you resolve and purpose in life. As for the rest of you, you would do well to share that burden, for none of you are absolved of it."
He gives a sigh, and turns. "Come Gideon.... and you, Jack. Let's see what we can make of you."
Jack's ghost feels a relentless pull that he cannot escape from. And as he begins to drift in Marteaus's wake, the surroundings begin to crumble and fade.
Back in the safe house, the breeze coming from the portal changes into a howling wind.
Theodore & Macaw Tuesday August 15th, 2006 4:34:38 PM
Total fear overtakes the timid wizard and he spins on his heel and dashes for the exit as the surroundings crumble.
Olyn Tuesday August 15th, 2006 4:37:54 PM
Saying to noone in particular: So, Koshe' Marr is Marteaus' realm of influence. No wonder my connection to Wardd was very difficult.
Turning to yell at the fading figure of the god of disease: A wise man once said: It is not the people that need Gods, it is the Gods that need people. Without followers, you have no power.
Again, to noone in particular as he walks towards the gateway: And if people want to blame me for the way this ended up. So be it. People always have to be blamed. Wouldn't be the first time and won't be the last I suspect.
....jack Tuesday August 15th, 2006 5:18:19 PM
Floats along with his new found God. It will be weird to worship a God his companions hate so much. And, worship alone, hmm what will that entail. Little choice at the moment
Vauhwyt Tuesday August 15th, 2006 5:29:43 PM
Vauhwyt scrambles back to Dirt City. She doesn't say anything. Her eyes are wet.
Berlon 22/39 AC 20 Tuesday August 15th, 2006 9:07:52 PM
Berlon wrinkles his nose when he gets no response from the stranger, even taking a moment to cease his rocking.
"So...." he says, feebly trying to make conversation.
"...how long do you think this is going to take?"
Vorelle Wednesday August 16th, 2006 12:13:10 AM
Cast into the shade once again by the more outgoing party members, Vorelle sighs and follows them. There had nothing "arrogant" in her response and, as usual, nobody cares.
Rose Wednesday August 16th, 2006 1:44:21 AM
Rose is crying as they leave. "...maybe...(sob)...maybe if we go to gargul's temple he can do something to at least free jack from martaeus..."
no matter what rose plans to go to all the temples and let the priests know what happened, they need to be on the lookout for plague spreaders and maybe they can help jack.
Dietrich Wednesday August 16th, 2006 8:31:04 AM
Dietrich is sad, but mostly angry. The last words of their worst enemy were intent to put the guilt for what happened on the party, but itīs Marteus whoīs the evil here. Had he known they were going to meet with Him, instead of Gargul, heīd stayed back with Berlon.
Concerning the supposed arrogance, Dietrich considers Marteus to be little more than a Demon and surely is not obliged to strike a bargain with Him. His own faith in Domi made it difficult to feel too much reverence.
The "option" Marteus gave the party was simply unacceptable and Dietrich trys to remind himself of the consequences it would have had, and that this consequences would have been a direct result of the partyīs decision.
He feels similar to Rose. Maybe there are still other ways? What are the good Gods for, if you have stay at the mercy of the evil ones? He prays to Domi and, as soon as the situation in the City allows, will accompany Rose to the Temples.
Vauhwyt extra Wednesday August 16th, 2006 8:34:19 AM
The liontaur checks for the place on her shoulder that Marteus burned her. Is there any mark or sign?
"I'd like a Cure Disease spell now please," she mutters.
Guest DM Jan Wednesday August 16th, 2006 8:53:38 PM
(Whoops, sorry folks. I guess I should have done an official handover.)
The edges that define the portal begin to crumble, and eventually the howling wind dies to nothing.
Mittani and Berlon are waiting as Vauhwyt, Olyn, Theo, Vorelle, Rose and Dietrich re-emerge into the safe house.
Vauhwyt checks her furred left shoulder. Nothing. Not a mark is left on any of those who stepped through the portal.
At their feet, lies Jack's remains.
(I feel a Fight Club reference coming on - I am Jack's withered remains.)
(Passing the baton over to ADM Matthew and DM Steve)
Jack Wednesday August 16th, 2006 10:22:33 PM
So am I dead dead or what?
Olyn Thursday August 17th, 2006 1:16:07 AM
Someone grab his body <pointing at Jack> and lets go to the temple of Wardd. If anyone has information about what just happened, it would be the Priest there.
Obviously peeved, Olyn begins heading out towards the temple. Stopping briefly, he turns to Mittani and says: Thanks for sending us to Marteaus, if was a barrel of laughs. Then turns back and heads out.
Dietrich d20+4=19 d20+4=16 Thursday August 17th, 2006 8:29:24 AM
The fighter is more than happy to know they havenīt been marked or infected in anyway by this horrible encounter.
Seeing Jackīs body on the floor, Dietrich agrees with bringing him quickly to Warddīs Temple. He takes the sea-sack with Jackīs remains and moves after the cleric. He keeps alert though, remembering the guy who was watching them: spot 19, listen 16
Vauhwyt and Mookie Thursday August 17th, 2006 10:49:27 AM
Vauhwyt is downcast. "We can go to the Temple, but there is no hope. Jack's spirit is held by one of the two greatest gods of the Wold. We will not see him again on this side of death .. unless it is in a twisted, corrupted form sent by Marteus to taunt and hurt us."
The liontaur's face becomes still, and the emotion drains out of her high-pitched voice.
"But this I know, and this I vow. That by the grace of my Lady, the goddess of revenge, I will impose a just vengeance on Marteus, directly or through his minions, for taking our friend, Jack, and if I fail, then my spirit will find no rest, as Jack's finds no rest, until even after death I make Marteus pay for what he has done. Lady, so swear I, Vauhwyt, Avenger of Jancassis."
There is a pause, and then a rough voice pipes up.
"Dum dum DUMM," says Mookie.
Berlon 22/39 AC 20 Thursday August 17th, 2006 10:51:39 AM
(OOC: Supplemental post for Wed, was out of town unexpectedly, will make a Thurs post after DM's)
Berlon sees his companions return, and he stands up and dusts himself off. He seems a little surprised to see Olyn, but simply shrugs his shoulder instead of saying anything.
He grabs the satchel.
"Stop. Just stop." he says to the group as a whole.
"Can we please, just for once, take a second and actually plan out something?" His voice isn't angry or accusing, just frustrated.
"I don't know what happened there, but I have some ideas. Marteaus, you say? That makes sense, given the circumstances." He scratches his beard in thought.
"So, Plan A: Hastily Running Off Through A Portal Some Stranger Opens Up, didn't work. Amazing. I hope I don't fall over from the shock. Nothing personal, Mittani."
"So now, if none of you mind, I think we should turn to Plan B. Well, technically it was Plan A, but you people insisted on the immediacy of Plan B, which is fine, I'm just glad you all made it back." He hefts the satchel over his shoulder.
"So, we asked an evil god for something, and he said no. That's fine. How does one fix something when an evil god says no?" He surveys the entire group.
"There's an old Gnomish proverb which loosely translates to 'Two Kings Beats One King.'"
"When an evil god says no, you get two non evil gods to say yes."
"Now please, Step One. Let's go find Neezer. After that, Step Two. We talk to a god. Step Three..." he trails off. "It's funny, Step Two is the easy part, Step One might prove harder. And Step Three..." he gulps.
He then turns to head off to find Neezer, but not before offering one more bit of "wisdom" to the group: "Oh, I'd also consider taking all that money you were going to use for Jack's "souvenir" from Koshe-Marr, and use it for the group. We are woefully underequipped and underprepared. Frankly, it's amazing more of us haven't ended up in satchels slung over shoulders..."
Cazyle OOC Thursday August 17th, 2006 10:53:23 AM
Dave, If Jack is, as I think, dead and gone, then please please do create a new character, and soon! I've seen people get discouraged after death and drop out of a game -- I dropped out of the Chosen of Domi for two years after my second death! -- and I would sure hate to see you go!
BigTim Thursday August 17th, 2006 12:39:08 PM
Jack, you can play Olyn and Ill make up a new character. How about that? 8) jk
But in all seriousness. If you wanna make a new toon, and need help making it all it can be, shoot me a line. I sit here when my mom in law is asleep and make up characters for fun. Just made a minotaur fighter that, at lvl 5, does 3d8+22 points of damage w/ power attack and still has a +7 to attacks. And his ac is 20. And being we are all lvl 6, you'd get more starting money than that lvl 5. <brain swoons with a thought>
Must go make a 6th level toon just to see. Remember, bigtim_40@yahoo.com for all your character making needs.
Rose Thursday August 17th, 2006 1:39:11 PM
Rose just continues crying "Lets go straight to the temple, what if Marteus put some sort of disease on us or on Jack's body."
ooc: dont forget we still havent got the gold from us players in dark fae 1.
Theodore & Macaw Thursday August 17th, 2006 10:23:40 PM
Theodore takes a moment to collect himself as the chaos that Marteaus started carries on amongst his friends.
"Perhaps we should heed Berlon's advice and take a few moments before making a decision. Just talk a bit, discover our options." The normally curious and energetic youth looks tired, now.
DM Shegger Thursday August 17th, 2006 10:40:17 PM
OOC - 'Ello, Puppets! I'll be taking over for a bit. Hope you're hankering for some deviltry.
As the heroes discuss what to do next, Mittani stands.
Looking at the sack that contains the physical remains of Jack, he says, "I have done what I could. It is unfortunate things turned out the way they did." He pauses, genuine concern crosses his face as he looks up at the rest of the party. "I wish you all the best of luck. I must take my leave."
He nods slightly to Vauhwyt before leaving the hovel. Leaving the party with some tough decisions.
What about Jack? Jack in the sack? Was Marteaus lying about his hold on Jack's soul? Is there a loophole in getting their friend back? If so, where can they find the answers?
OOC - At the moment, we are between modules, so I will allow multiple posts, for the purpose of discussion and roleplay, to get things done (shopping, visiting relative & friends, etc.) so we can move on to the next module.
Vorelle Thursday August 17th, 2006 11:17:41 PM
Vorelle prepares to follow Olyn and the others to the temple. She doesn't exactly trust the clergy (Olyn himself being the exception), but she can't think where else to turn for help against a god.
Vauhwyt and Mookie Friday August 18th, 2006 7:40:32 AM
The liontaur sees no reason NOT to go to the temple. "Well, maybe they can help, or at least check us over for infection," she says.
She gives her friend Mittani a hug (no attempt to pick a pocket this time!) and thanks him for trying. She fills him in on what happened and urges him to watch out for Marteus and his foillowers.
She invites him to come along with the group. At the very least, she brings him along out of the dangerous Backstab Quarter and underground, where it is safe.
She peace-bonds her weapon, as usual, when they get to the City Below.
[OOC: Can we go shopping now? Do we have access to DFR winnings? That's for Theo, Rose, and Vorelle, right? All at level 6? so that means 3,900 gp to each of us, I believe.]
Dietrich Friday August 18th, 2006 8:20:24 AM
Dietrich listens to his friends and is surprised at Vauhwytīs oath, which shows a part of his liontaur friend that you donīt see so often and is a little scary.
Concerning Berlonīs comments, Dietrich disagrees with some points. Mittani wasnīt a complete stranger, but Vauhwytīs friend, and it seemed to be the only way to recover Jack. Another point is that, despite his own doubts in simply following the party (with that he certainly agrees with Berlon, we donīt have to rush so much and should take some time to discuss things before we act), 90% of the party went along, so Dietrich bowed to the colective decision and accompanied them.
Finally, Dietrich prefers to go to the Temple first and only later to Neezer. The first priority is to see if thereīs anything that can be done for Jack. In the worst case, at least the party should get a decent funeral.
Olyn Friday August 18th, 2006 10:39:41 AM
<blinks> at Vauhwyt.
Continues heading to the Temple of Wardd.
(Need XP for this module still, and loot split, if any, from the last one and this.)
Berlon 22/39 AC 20 Friday August 18th, 2006 1:18:39 PM
"Nobody is having a funeral. If you go to the temple they will stroke their beards and roll some dice and shrug their shoulders and say there is nothing they can do. If you want to go through the motions, fine."
He gives the sack to Dietrich. "You and the others go to the temple if you want. Do *not* let them inter Jack. After they tell you they can't help, take it with you, and at the very least have them perform the Repose Sanctifications."
"I will run my errand with Neezer as Plan B, or C, or whatever it is fool letter we're already on. I will meet you back at the apartments," he adds over his shoulder as he leaves, "or should I say, 'we'."
"Theodore, please accompany me. You will be of invaluable assistance and we have much to discuss..."
Vauhwyt Friday August 18th, 2006 1:47:49 PM
Vauhwyt steps up before Berlon can depart.
"My acerbic but insightful friend, you were surely right not to join us in passing through that portal. But be sensible. We are still hunted by enemies in Dirt City, and the course of wisdom is to stick togetherr." Her acccent betrays her concern.
"Please, come with us to the Temple, then we will all go to see Neezerr."
Theodore & Macaw Friday August 18th, 2006 2:07:58 PM
"O-Okay," Theodore says to Berlon. He is a little nervous about what the gnome might have on his mind. The two of them haven't always seen eye to eye on everything.
But he doesn't see any use he would be to those going to the temple. He follows the gnome out of the building.
rose Friday August 18th, 2006 2:44:40 PM
Rose will go with the others to the temples. "Shouldnt we first go to Gargul's temple?"
ooc: although it hasnt been mentioned I would assume that even the smallest village would have at least a shrine to the god of death so people could pray that he would spare loved ones lives & as his clerics would (to my mind) probably be the ones to do most of the funeral rituals & stuff
Jack Friday August 18th, 2006 5:39:49 PM
Lost in the realm of Koshe-Mar. Good thing is I am finally first at something.
Berlon (Supplemental Snark) Saturday August 19th, 2006 3:59:05 PM
"'Acerbic'? You'll have to excuse me, sometimes my language skills are not that strong. Does that work mean anything like 'acts too quickly' or 'acts foolishly'?"
He puts both hands in the air. "Finally! I belong!"
"I am going to the temple. My temple. When you people are tired of being wrong, let me know. Let's go, Theo."
Cayzle OOC Sunday August 20th, 2006 11:25:00 AM
Dave, LOL!
But my understanding is that there is only ONE temple in DC -- the one to Wardd. That's the only one on the map, anyway. There might be shrines or chapels somewhere to other gods, but so far as I know, Wardd's is it.
DM Shegger Sunday August 20th, 2006 5:01:14 PM
"I will be fine, thank you," Mittani declines Vauhwyt's offer to accompany the group. He then disappears from the building.
As Berlon and Theodore try to take their leave, Vauhwyt attempts to keep the group together. Berlon asserts his intention to visit Neezer and leaves, Theodore trailing behind.
Olyn leads the rest of the group to the Temple of Wardd.

Whether she's trying to reassure herself or the dog is anybody's guess.
Dietrich Monday August 21st, 2006 8:12:44 AM
Dietrich shakes his head at Berlonīs and Theoīs separate trip. What harm would it do for them to wait and keep together with the party? Weīd be going to meet Neezer anyway. The warrior just hopes the two donīt come into danger. He carries Jackīs body in the sack to the Temple of Wardd. There, he waits for his comrades to speak. Looking at Vorelle, he wonders about her strange connection to this animal from another plane, still a little suspicious about the "wolf" which appears to be a dog.
Vauhwyt Monday August 21st, 2006 11:14:34 AM
The liontaur nods a respectful greeting to Clu'eth, but leaves the talking to Olyn.
Olyn Monday August 21st, 2006 12:34:08 PM
With a somber look Olyn greets Clu'eth. Master Clu'eth, we come here on a grave tiding. A companion has fallen in battle and an attempt to resurrect him failed. Seems Marteaus felt his soul belonged to him and asked us to allow his minions to roam the wold spreading his filth and disease in exchange for MadJack's soul. We refused but are determined to bring our friend back.

"But let's talk of more pleasant things."
"So tell me, Theo," he continues, "do you have access to any arcane spellbooks?"
Before he gets to follow up that question they arrive in front of Neezer.
"Hello, Friend Neezer, it is indeed good to see you. I don't mean to be abrupt or..." he shoots Theo a quick glance, "acerbic, but as I find myself saying perhaps too much, time is of the essence."
"One of our group has fallen in the Koshe Marr, and we are pursuing his... retrieval. Given the extraordinary circumstances, it is going to require an impressive array of resources."
He stops suddenly and realizes he is babbling.
He sighs.
"We need a lot of money in a little time and, er, well, we were hoping you might be able to help with work or... assistance..."
Theodore & Macaw Monday August 21st, 2006 6:46:59 PM
"I have a spellbook," Theodore replies, quite stupidly. "Ohhhh...You mean besides mine, I suppose. Heh. I knew that."
He clears his throat and adjusts his sleeves as they walk. "My Master Geoffrey has several books that I study from."
Theodore smiles politely at Neezer, but doesn't feel he has anything other to add. He remains quiet.

Neezer leans back, lacing his fingers behind his head. He appears to be quite happy with the turn of events. Berlon and Theo can almost hear him, I've got them where I want them, now!
"Bygones!" he exclaims, throwing his arms into the air. "That's what I say. So what if you don't come through for us one time. Forgiveness is divine! That's our motto!"
He leans forward, again. Almost whispering, "It just so happens I have something that will help you and your friends regain face. Would you like to hear?"
Before either can answer, "Surely you've heard the tale of the Ghost Ship? The terrible ship that appears at the docks of Dirt City every hundred years? And during that same period of time, several of the City's most promising youths mysteriously vanish? Hmmm?"
Now he stands, getting more into his story. "You may not think it of the Merchants, but we are an organization that leans toward charity. The people. They are important to us." He turns to look directly at Berlon. Apparently Theodore is of little consequence.

"That is terrible," he repeats to himself, his eyes on the floor as he thinks. It is silent in the room for a few moments before Clu'eth looks up again. "And I suspect that is the remains of your friend in that sack, there?"
He stands. "There is little that I can think to do. However, I believe I could ask a couple questions of one far wiser than me." Clu'eth smiles and winks at Olyn.
"Of course, such a service would require a small donation." He gives you all a mischievous grin. "Seeing as you're all friends of the Temple, I could give you a discount. Say 200 gold pieces, and your questions will be answered."}

Dietrich listens to Olyn and than Clueth. He sees the chairs, but prefers to stay. When the priest mentions the sack and Jack, the warrior nods affirmatively.
Heīs happy to hear there is someone that might help, and not surprised at all that this will cost gold. Dietrich waits for others to speak, but itīs clear he would take the deal.
Olyn Tuesday August 22nd, 2006 12:16:04 PM
Stands up, reaches into his pouch, and pulls out 4 small pieces of Onyx and hands em to Clu'eth saying: I believe this will cover that. <*> 4 Onyx @ 50gp each. <*>
Sits back down on a stool and waits.

The liontaur is eager to see what, if anything, the cleric can do. Since she thought it was hopeless.
Theodore & Macaw d20+11=18 Tuesday August 22nd, 2006 3:25:24 PM
Theodore's eyes go wide at mention of the Ghost Ship. (Local Knowledge check 18)
"Oh my goodness!" he exclaims. "Is it really due in just a few days?"
It's hard to tell whether the wizard is excited or afraid. Probably a little of both.
Theodore gives Berlon an energetic look. "It would be the right thing to do. For Dirt City, I mean. We don't want people to keep disappearing, do we?"
Rose Tuesday August 22nd, 2006 3:47:21 PM
Rose starts digging in her bag of holding when the priest asks for some money, it's a strange sight the little halfing girl with her head and shoulders stuck through a bag that looks way to small to hold her. She comes up with a pouch that clinks just as Olyn hands the priest some onyx. "Here you go. Oh, ok Olyn here you go." and hands the bag to Olyn.
Berlon 22/39 AC 20 d20+1=8 Tuesday August 22nd, 2006 7:31:54 PM
Berlon listens intently to Neezer's story, noting his body language as well. He's not as familiar with Dirt City, but he listens to the story anyway. (Local Knowledge Check 8)
His shoulder stoop at Theo's exuberance about the story.
"Theo," he says solemnly with his head still down, "I'm not sure why nobody seems to understand this, but..." he holds Theo by each wrist, "Jack. Is. Dead."
He turns to Neezer, disappointment clear on his face. "Yes, well, that's all well and good about the Ghost Pirates. Most of the time it just ends up being some guys playing dress up with an illusionist, believe me, I know."
"I am sure the local constabulary will be able to handle and Ghost Pirates, or Pirate Ghosts, or Guys In Dress Up, or whatever it is, but as of right now, there is a Kadorto that needs to be performed, and I naively thought you might be able to assist us. I apologize for wasting your time."
He turns to leave.
"Come, Theodore, we must rejoin the others before we move on to Plan C. I really, REALLY hope we don't have to resort to Plan D."
He leaves.
Olyn Tuesday August 22nd, 2006 8:32:17 PM

Berlon & Theodore Highlight to display spoiler: {As Berlon and Theodore turn to leave, Neezer calls out to them.
"You will be compensated, of course." The sly Merchant walks around the desk. "That is what you wanted, right? All we're asking is that you board the ship, find out what's going on, and report back. An hour or two, tops. Fairly easy work for heroes of your caliber, I'm sure."
He comes to stand before you both, hands clasped behind his back. "One thousand gold pieces per person. Five hundred up front, five hundred when you give us your report."}

Dietrich, Olyn, Rose, Vauhwyt, & Vorelle Highlight to display spoiler: {Clu'eth takes the gems from Olyn. "Thank you, my son. It will take me time to prepare and then cast the spell. I suggest you all rest and then return here tomorrow afternoon."
He turns to leave, stops, and turns back to the party with a smile on his lips. "Oh, I almost forgot. It seems you are well loved by some mysterious benefactor. A chest full of gold was left here a few days ago for you. The gentleman would not leave a name, but said to expressly thank Vorelle, Rose, and Theodore for their help. Very mysterious, indeed."
The door to the small chamber opens and two robed acolytes struggle over a heavy chest which they plop on the ground in front of the heroes. A large lock keeps the chest shut tight. Clu'eth produces a key and hands it to Olyn. "I will see you tomorrow."
He inclines his head slightly, and takes his leave with the other acolytes.
(The chest contains 27,300 gold pieces (1,300 x 3 (Vorelle, Rose, & Theo) x 7 (all the surviving characters) for Vorelle, Rose, & Theo's participation in the DFR tap.)
(Jack, I would assume you also get 3,900 gold pieces added to the normal amount for creating your new character. Assume you do, unless notified otherwise.)}
Olyn Tuesday August 22nd, 2006 10:48:14 PM
Turning to the others with the key in hand.
So, Vorelle and Rose. Guess this key to that chest belongs to you 2 and Theo. <hands the key to Rose> Wanna tell us what you 3 did to get that?
<*> Not to be a pain in the keester, but whatever happened to the loot from the previous adv, and exp for that and this? Can't spend, upgrade and update sheets unless we get that taken care of. <*>
Vorelle Tuesday August 22nd, 2006 10:52:44 PM
[sorry I missed yesterday]
Too late, Vorelle nerves herself to ask a question of Clu'eth. By the time her lips have begun to form the words, Olyn is already paying him.
We should not have done that, she thinks sadly. Not until we had some idea of what they knew. There are plenty of people in Dirt City who will tell us "no" and "I don't know" for free.
She forgets her unease when the chest arrives. Her eyes widen when she sees what it contains. "I-I th-thought that was a d-d-d-d-dream," she murmurs.
Dietrich Wednesday August 23rd, 2006 8:36:26 AM
Dietrich is amazed at the fortune Vorelle, Rose and Theo have acquired, and he too wonders where it comes from. Anyway, it should help with the costs of raising Jack, if possible.
Having to wait till tomorrow, DIetrich suggests to go meet Berlon and Theo at Neezer.
Olyn Wednesday August 23rd, 2006 11:40:43 AM
<*> Goes and asks another priest if they have a spot we could store the trio's chest til we return. Upon finding a spot, I help Dietrich to put it there for safekeeping until we return. <*>
No sense in lugging that thing around with us on the way to Neezer's. We would only become a target and I don't know about you, I am tired of having that bullseye on my back. Rose, keep that key in a safe place. Away from prying eyes, and hands, of a pick pocket.
<*> Once everyone is ready, I nod to Dietrich and follow him to our destination while listening to the girls' rendition on how they aquired that chest full of gold. <*>
Rose Wednesday August 23rd, 2006 1:48:10 PM "It was true? I dreamed we went back in time and helped stop the fae king."
Rose takes the key and puts it away, she's already planning on how to spend some of that money. "Ok, lets go to Neezers and find the others. I dont like us seperating like that."
Vauhwyt Wednesday August 23rd, 2006 2:09:36 PM
Vauhwyt is happy for her friends and asks them what they will do with their newfound bounty.
She is fine with going to Neezer and then coming back tomorrow for the spell.
Berlon 22/39 AC 20 Wednesday August 23rd, 2006 6:31:04 PM
Berlon shakes his head. "Come, come, Neezer! You know better! By now you must know how this works! A service is performed, payment is given." Is there an echo in here?
The skinny Gnome leans forward, steepling his fingers. "We couldn't POSSIBLY take any money in advance for work that is not a priority right now. As I inexplicably seem to need to say on a constant basis, we have a corpse on our hands, you see..."
"Of course, should the rest of the group somehow manage to figure something out, we would certainly be happy to help the community if we can get the whole Dead Body Thing resolved."
He narrows his eyes at Neezer, obviously annoyed at the words spoken earlier. "And, to be honest, the level of work we would be looking for, in order to be equal to the compensation we would require..." he trails off.
"Well, let's just say it might currently be a little out of the realm of your," he waves his arms around the surroundings, "operations. Sometimes I forget you are a relatively new force in the City, and might still require time to establish yourselves."
"I look forward to working with you in the future."
This time he really leaves.
Theodore & Macaw Wednesday August 23rd, 2006 10:09:58 PM
"Hmmm." Theodore makes a sound with his throat. After Berlon leaves, Theodore turns back to Neezer. "If you could just give us a little bit. We need to discuss this with our friends. And please excuse Berlon. He's always been a little sharp."
The thin wizard then hurries after Berlon. Catching up to the gnome, he says, "You really should be more polite, Berlon. We all should be. We get in more trouble for speaking our mind than rushing into things. If you'll recall that time in the Prince's tower when you went on a tirade and got us all kicked out, and yourself quite tusselled."
Theodore gives his friend a concerned look. "Just be more cautious with your words. The people in Dirt City hold grudges. Especially those with power. Neezer has power."

"Of course," he replies to his brethren. "We will watch your chest for you. Leave it there for the nonce and I will bring some one else to help me move it." His youthful eyes shine bright and he smiles wide. "It is quite heavy."}
Berlon and Theodore leave the Merchant's Quarter and head towards the Temple of Wardd. Dietrich, Olyn, Rose, Vauwhyt, and Vorelle leave the Temple, heading for the Merchant's Quarter. They meet each other about halfway between the two locations.

"So, how was the meeting with Neezer? Weīve got a new source of information for tomorrow, hopefully a good one. And Rose and Vorelle have great news too. If we donīt have anything better to do, Iīd say we return for the safe-place, at least to leave JAckīs body there till tomorrow."

Vauhwyt Thursday August 24th, 2006 10:31:43 AM
Vauhwyt tells Berlon and Theo that the clerics at the Temple can cast some spell for us tomorrow. Not sure exactly what spell or what it will do, but it can't hurt.
She asks if Neezer was of any use.
She says that frankly she would like some R&R and training. But she thinks that the group should generally stick together.
In fact, she thinks that the group should pay a visit, all together, to their friends in Dirt City, just to see what's going on and to shore up support wherever they can get some. That means visiting the following people: Jeraldh from the House of Keys; Burt the dwarf and maybe Avenor from the House of Wolves; Harlv, Bram, Kurk, and Orgar from the House of Knives; meet friends (and learn some names) in the Backstab Quarter; and check on Rose's family.
Olyn Thursday August 24th, 2006 11:30:27 AM
I personally want a nice hot bath, a change of clothes and a good meal and a mug. Then some sleep. All of those visitings can wait til tomorrow. Dontcha think?
Vauhwyt Thursday August 24th, 2006 11:35:05 AM
"Oh, yes," Vauhwyt answers Olyn. "I meant that we should go visiting after we go to the Temple tomorrow, maybe in a few days."

Berlon 22/39 AC 20 Thursday August 24th, 2006 7:47:31 PM
"It didn't go very well," Berlon says to the group, "Neezer was unable or unwilling to help us. Although he did mention something about a thousand gold per person job. Something about tracking down Ghost Pirates, or Pirate Ghosts, whatever, Theo seemed to know what he was talking about."
"The temple thinks it can help? Reaaaallly..." he adds as he strokes his beard, "...well, I suppose...."
"Other than that, apparantly someone has moved in to the Prince's old quarters, which I am sure is incredibly bad news."
"Oh, and Theo thinks I should be nicer. In that spirit, I won't comment on Vauhwyt's list."
"Other than that, things went great."
Theodore & Macaw Thursday August 24th, 2006 10:18:24 PM
Theodore feels exhiliration at the possibility of Jack's resurrection. "That's great, guys!"
After Berlon tells about the meeting with Neezer, Theodore adds a bit. "Yeah, he was talking about the Ghost Ship that shows up every hundred years. He offered us each one thousand gold pieces to go check it out."
A relaxing evening sounds good to Theodore. I haven't had one of those in a while, he thinks.

Dietrich is a little disappointed that Neezer couldnīt be of any help. The Ghos Ship story is interesting, but the warrior thinks the party has enough other worries at hand.
When Rose speaks about the chest, Dietrich, though very tired from the Hunt, volounteers to accompany her to retrieve the treasure. He has Jackīs body in a sack with him, and would love to leave it at the Temple and take the gold chest to the appartment instead. After all, its a Thieveīs City.
Vauhwyt d20+2=8 Friday August 25th, 2006 11:21:55 AM
Vauhwyt asks when this ghost ship is supposed to appear. She really wants a couple days to rest up from being in the land of nightmares.
She tries to reassure Rose. "The Temple folk are our best friends in the City. We can trust them with the chest for a night."
[OOC: are Rose, Vorelle, and Theo going to volunteer to share their loot?]
Rose d20+4=14 Friday August 25th, 2006 5:03:05 PM "The ghost ship! When is it supposed to come?" Rose is a bit scared, she's heard stories about the ship her whole life including speculation about what happens to the kids.
Rose will go with Dietrich to get the chest, "Vauhwyt could you buy a few loaves of bread and something for dinner on the way back to the apartment? I dont feel like cooking tonight." If Vauhwyt agrees Rose will hand her some money for the food.

As the three of them movved off away from the heros, Jack wonders what fate is his. Floating behind Marteus, and the little Gideon, Jack feels more than out of place.
"So, what is next, what do I have to expect?" Jack asks cautiously.
The form of Marteus shakes visually with mirth. He turns around to face Jack. Gideon seems to stop as well.
"No disre..." Jack finds his mouth shuts, and clamps down tight.
"You have said your last words Jack. Well at least until we get you trained like Gideon." Marteus tilts his head and studies the facial features of Jack. Jack begins to furrow his eyes in consternation. His lips are physically being sown shut. Even though he can not see the thread, the feeling is unmistakable. "Good Jack, no fear. Maybe you will be a quick study. So first off we need to find you a physical body. When we do, you will be placed there in. Then you begin your training. First off you will learn what pain is. It will become a exquisite friend, that will soon become your lover. Look at Gideon, he shows much progress. Any questions? No, I thought not."

"Hush, Mookie," says Vauhwyt. She shakes Jeraldh's hand. "I don't think we said no ... I think we were hoping for a few days of R&R before we had to decide. But a hero's work is never done ... even a Patsy Hero's!"
"Let's get some rest and seek out Neezer in the morning. We've had a very long day."

Im confused. When Jeraldh gave the group an apartment, it was for the group. In whole, with 2 bedrooms. 1 was set up for the girls, 1 for the guys. When did the guys get kicked out and the girls claimed it for themselves? Reason I ask this, I was not privy to any discussion on the website about moving into another place. I personally have always looked at the apartment Jeraldh gave us as his living quarters. That's where I always picture Olyn going when he says I am going to the apartment.

Substitute DM Cayzle Wednesday April 28th, 2004 5:50:21 AM MONTH OF ENDINGS
[Friends, there's a lot going on this month, so rather than breeze through it, let's stay another day in the Month of Endings.]
Vauhwyt gains another rank in Craft(pottery).
Zayne gains another rank of Profession(hunter). He proudly shows off his secret -- another apartment nearby. (E-mail me if you are unsure of the total cost. Make sure you adjust your PC sheet.) It has two bedrooms and a common room, and it is very close -- 1,200 feet from the apartment that Jeraldh lets them rent for free. So far it is unfurnished.
Dietrich interacts with his friends and gets excited about the new apartment. [OOC: What profession/craft does Dietrich pursue this month?]
In the Month of Pilgrimage, Vauhwyt is happy to recommend Rose for membership to the WLA. [OOC: When Jan gets back, please confirm that this is okay. Rose may have to role play a membership application (that's what Vauhwyt did). Also, I'm not sure that that's how the skill ranks work. I have asked for advice in e-mail and am awaiting an answer.] Rose and Vauhwyt both spend time with WLA trainers -- Rose more so. Rose also gains another rank in Profession(cooking) this month.
In the Month of Endings, Rose spends more time with Vorelle. [Loretta, do you want Rose to gain a rank of Profession(hunter) this month? Or Profession(cook) with all the game she has dressed and prepared?] Despite the halfling's natural curiousity and concern, so far she has failed to figure things out. But she is worried. Rose also researches her spell this month and gives her friends copies. [OOC: Dominic or I will post it in the Oshirr House soon.]
Vorelle continues to learn the nuances of hunting [gain another rank in Profession(hunter)]. She enjoys a lot of Rose's company. And she is as excited as Dietrich about Zayne's place. But the intrusions of her family continue to mar her happiness -- and may prove difficult to keep from her friends. [Kathy, please e-mail me about options for continuing this RP -- since I think it will be harder, if not impossible, to keep this story line apart from the other PCs.]
Theo and Rose continue to discuss matters arcane. [Does Theo continue with painting? I asked that yesterday too! What profession/craft is he pursuing, if any?] The young mage seems oblivious to the events around him.
[Let's spend the day posting about Zayne's place, Rose's spell, Vorelle's shiner, or whatever your heart desires! :-) ]

Back at the women's apartment, Jeraldh takes his leave. "Well, I hope that you all will help the City out, once again."
A minute after Jeraldh leave, Dietrich and Rose enter the apartment.
You all settle down for the evening. The men retire to their apartment, and the women sleep in theirs.
In the morning, Berlon shows up to go over their plan of action.
Vauhwyt and Mookie Monday August 28th, 2006 11:38:06 PM
In the dark, almost asleep, Vauhwyt is accosted by a rough whisper.
"Boss, Boss! So Mad Jack is gone? Like gone gone?"
"I guess he is, Mookie. It's sad, huh?"
"Uh, yeah, sure, real sad. I'm crying on the inside. But what I want to know is, who gets his stuff?"
"His stuff?"
"Sure! He was a big hero, just like alls of you. I bet there's some pretty sweet swag in that bag with his corpse. I think we should get our hands on that."
"Mookie, you don't have hands."
"Stop clouding the issue, Boss! That stuff has to go somewhere, right? I bet he would want his friends to have it and think about him when they used it. Or sold it."
"Mookie, you are a ghoul. Now hush."
"But Boss!"
"Hush."
"Where's MY stuff?"
"HUSH!"
[OOC: Is this an issue we want to address?]
Dietrich Tuesday August 29th, 2006 8:24:42 AM
After Dietrich enters, he asks about Jeraldīs visit (ooc: assuming the party members will tell).
The warrior will take a hot bath and relax from the adventure in Koshe Marr. Heīd like some time to think too, but it seems the City needs them.
At the deliberation, Dietrich votes to do the Ghost Ship thing (althoiugh he doesnīt really know what it involves). It would enhance their standing with the people of the CIty even more, which is most important in the current situation of instability and other powers wanting to harm the party.
Theodore & Macaw Tuesday August 29th, 2006 10:51:29 AM
Theodore enjoys the night in bed and has to be awakened by one of his friends. In the morning, Theodore stretches, a big smile across his face. "It's good to be home."
He agrees with Dietrich. "I also think we should visit the Ghost Ship. Just think of the notoriety we'll get by solving such a huge mystery. One near and dear to Dirt City!"
Olyn Tuesday August 29th, 2006 12:19:34 PM
Sits in a tub full of steaming hot water, and soaping and washing thoroughly.
I agree with Theo on this. Lets pull our resources together and I am sure that the temples and possibly the houses will aid us if we, as a group, decide to bring an end to this Ghost ship. I would like to see that all the houses owe us a favor instead of us hiding from them all the time. I mean, come on. By ending the Ghost ship threat we save alot of youngins, and those youngins come from all the houses.
After the bath, Olyn drains and washes out the tub, the helps Theo to refill it for his bath. Then, goes to one of the chairs, with a mug full of ale, and enjoys the brew while talking with the other guys. Rose Tuesday August 29th, 2006 5:17:08 PM
Once back at the apartment Rose will take the chest of gold out of her bag of holding along with some clean clothes and (after the guys are gone) take a bath. She'll eat dinner with the rest, hopefully Vauhwyt bought it.
After Rose is clean and fed she'll start dividing up the money between herself, theo, and Vorelle. Then out of her money she'll make sure everyone in the group gets a share with some left out for Jacks's share, maybe they can still resurect him or he has a will.
She'll then start pulling things out of her bag of holding until she's surrounded by stuff. She'll use a prestidation charge (lasts 1 hr) to clean some of the stuff before putting it back in the bag. (i really need to make a list of what I keep in the bag, and then maybe get a better bag).
She'll put the food in the cupboards, since as far as she knows they wont be going anywhere very soon.
Pretty soon she'll get tired, and actually collapses on her traveling feather bed that she's been sitting on as she cleans her stuff.
Meanwhile Piper has flown off to see her parents and tell them all about how mookie kept getting into trouble.
ooc: whoever plays jack are you going to make a new character?
Rose edit Tuesday August 29th, 2006 6:19:11 PM
Just double checked the dm post for the gold. rose didnt save out money for Jack (as the dm gave money for the surviving characters) She made 2 piles for Theo & Vorelle with their third of the gold which is 9,100 each (I hope there were just 3 bags so she didnt have to count all of it. then divided up her third into 7 piles of 1,300 each. (hopefully some of this was was platinum)
Berlon Tuesday August 29th, 2006 7:19:49 PM
"Yes yes, Ghost Ship, that's nice and all. But what is "the temple" going to do about Jack?"
DM Shegger Tuesday August 29th, 2006 9:45:44 PM
In the morning, Vauwhyt reminds everyone of their appointment with Clu'eth this afternoon. Otherwise, their day is fairly open.
There are a few questions, of course. Dietrich, Olyn, and Theodore seem pretty set on solving the mystery of the Ghost Ship. They just have to convince the others it's worthwhile. The combined offers of Neezer and Jeraldh, two thousand gold PER person, sounds pretty sweet.
A few people have errands to run. Vorelle wants to find a druid (probably an impossible task in such a place as Dirt City). Vauhwyt wants to renew the team's connections with various people and entities throughout the City. What about everyone else?
OOC - The gold HAS to be split between the whole party, as per the DFR Tap rules. That means everyone gets 3,600 gold pieces. If anyone's planning to make any purchases, I'd go ahead and step into the Catacombs or visit whomever you want and just include it in your post; just put it in another section and identify it as separate from the main plot. Just to help us move things along.

Vauhwyt and Mookie Tuesday August 29th, 2006 11:00:17 PM
Vauhwyt's first priority is to get to the temple for the spell. This morning, why don't we go get Berlon, all stop by Jeraldh's place, visit with his kids, and tell him that we'll be going after the ghost ship.
If we have time, we can tell Neezer too before we go to the temple.
Vorelle and the Canine to be Named Later Tuesday August 29th, 2006 11:50:49 PM
"I w-want to v-v-visit the W-W-Wolves also," Vorelle says. Otherwise, she supports Vauhwyt's plan. She plans a visit to the Catacombs later on.
The dog is just happy to be going someplace new and interesting.

OOC Hey guys, I have made a new character just waiting for DMS to approve and tell me to start posting. Also remind them of Jacks items, they should all be stalled with his horse in the stable, didnt have anything in Koshe-Marr.
loretta ooc Wednesday August 30th, 2006 1:53:18 AM
how much time do our characters have to make things before the next module starts? Rose needs a minimum of 1 week for item creation.
Rose Wednesday August 30th, 2006 2:41:50 AM
Rose wakes up, a bit sore from sleeping half on and half off the mattress. she gets dressed and while eating breakfast makes a list of what she needs to buy at the catcombs and what she needs to do the next week. She reviews this list on the way to the temple with the others.
ooc: item creation is 1 day per 1,000gp cost is that the cost to the creator or the cost to the buyer? if the item costs 1125gp (creating) does it have to take 2 days?
DM Shegger Wednesday August 30th, 2006 9:34:28 AM
OOC - Of course you are correct, Cayzle. Everyone gets 3,900 gp. (Sadly giving everyone 300 gold pieces back from the stash I'd been saving for nasty DM weapons.)
Rose, the creator of the item must spend 1/25 of the item's price in XP and use up raw materials costing half of this price. So yes, the creator must purchase materials equal to half the price of the magic item she is creating. And yes, it would take 2 days to make an item over 1,000 gp. If you guys decide to take on the Ghost Ship, it should appear in two days time.
Dietrich Wednesday August 30th, 2006 9:52:44 AM
Dietrich is more than happy about the treasure he receives from Rose, Vorelle and Theo (heīd have accepted every division they propose actually.) HE wonīt start spending it yet, as maybe thereīs still a chance of doing something for Jack, and this would cost some cash. Finally, heīd suggest for the party to use a part of it for broader collective issues, such as paying some bards, bribing important people etc.
He prepares to go to the Temple, and also agrees with Vauhwitīs further points, of visiting old friends and allies, as well as confirming the deal with Jerald and Neezer. If Vorelle needs to meet the Wolves, he agrees to go there too, as a party. Maybe the group can do something to improve their relationship with that House too.
ooc: anything aboiut xps?
Olyn Wednesday August 30th, 2006 10:19:52 AM
Wakes up, dresses, washes up, eats breakfast and then heads out with his new found booty to the Temple. He has been anxiously waiting for the morning to come to see what Clu'eth has found out.
When learning that Vorelle has intentions on going to the House of the Wolves his disposition sours and he snaps: why do you want to go to that house? Is it because of that damn dog? You're a ranger, use your abilities to communicate with it and let it tell you his story, or take it to a druid and let them tell you about it. Don't take it to that house just cuz they named themselves after a wolf. They'd probably want to try and corrupt it like they wanted to do to me.
After finding out what the church learns, I plan on going to the Catacombs.
Vauhwyt Wednesday August 30th, 2006 10:29:17 AM
So the agenda looks like this?
Today: Visit Jeraldh and then Neezer and tell them we'll do it. Find out more about this Ghost Ship. Then go to the Temple in the afternoon -- maybe have a funeral for poor Jack. Then go to the WLA and get in a little training.
Tomorrow: Visit the Wolves and tell them about Samule (he was a Wolf). More WLA training. Shopping.
Day after tomorrow: Ghost Ship!
Vahwyt says to Olyn that telling Samule's people (the Wolves) what happened to him is the right thing to do. He was forced to betray us, but then he did his best to help us. Plus he was my friend.
Vauhwyt also wants to do some shopping.
Cayzle OOC Wednesday August 30th, 2006 10:56:53 AM
Just e-mailed out the prior xp awards for your records. If you did not get it, let me know.
Rose Wednesday August 30th, 2006 3:07:27 PM
Rose listens to the others as they talk about the ghost ship and Jerdhl's visit. She doesnt have enough time to make the items she wants and she hopes that unlike last time they wont be needed.
today Rose will stay with Vauhwyt learning some information, taking care of jack, going shopping, and getting a bit of training.
tomorrow rose will quickly make the one wand she can and hope it will be useful.
ooc: after this next module can our characters have a few weeks down time to create stuff. Rose needs to make at least two wands taking 2 days each, 2 wands taking 2 days each, probably 2 or more wands taking 3 days each. plus she needs to add spells to her book (2 days per spell), ect. and she needs to make several wands to sell for cash, so she can upgrade her weapons & armor.
still not sure about time to create weapons. if a wand costs 2,250 to buy then it costs 1,125 to make. do you need to spend 2 days making it (the 1,125 cost to make) or 3 days (the 2,250 cost the cost to buy)
Cayzle OOC Wednesday August 30th, 2006 3:43:23 PM
Loretta, I totally sympathize! Sometimes it is VERY hard to find time in game to make stuff. My Zeoll has been working on the same magic item for just over a real world year! (32 days needed in game)
I would love to see some more down time in DC. Too bad this Ghost Ship just happened to be in two days! Why couldn't it have been in two weeks! LOL!
A hero's work is never done!
Oh, and the cost in time and xp is based on the market price. A 2250 gp item takes 3 days and 90 xp to make.
Berlon Wednesday August 30th, 2006 7:26:31 PM
With unexplained money being thrust at him, along with the situation with Jack and the "Ghost Pirates", Berlon's head is swimming.
"If anyone needs me, I'll be at the Catacombs or my lab..."
Theodore & Macaw Wednesday August 30th, 2006 10:26:56 PM
"I'll go with you to visit Jeraldh and Neezer," says Theodore to Vauhwyt. "Then I'd like to purchase some items and visit my master before going to the Temple."
DM Shegger Wednesday August 30th, 2006 10:27:08 PM
Different plans are made for the new day. Everyone has their own idea of what to do first.
Berlon heads off to make some purchases at the item shop, or tinker in his lab.
Dietrich thinks about where he wants to go, but doesn't make any hard decisions. (OOC - I'll let you decide in your next post where you went for this post.)
Olyn packs up his new money and heads off to his temple. Clu'eth has closed himself off for the morning, preparing for the coming ritual this afternoon.
Rose, Theodore, Vauhwyt, and Vorelle head first to Jeraldh's quarters. The albino welcomes the heroes into his home, quickly escorting them to a small sitting room. He offers them all drinks.
"I trust that you have given deep thought to the City's notorious Ghost Ship," he says.
Vorelle and the Canine to be Named Later Thursday August 31st, 2006 12:03:12 AM
Vorelle shrinks visibly when Olyn berates her. In a low voice, she explains, "I w-w-w-want to kn-kn-kn-kn-know if I-I'm a w-w-w-w-widow."
Having dropped that conversational bombshell, she suddenly is very busy with her dog and can't meet anyone's eyes.
The next day, she goes along to the meeting with Jeraldh. "I-I-I'll h-h-help if I c-c-c-can," she says in response to his plea.
Vauhwyt and Mookie Thursday August 31st, 2006 12:15:02 AM
Vauhwyt says to Jeraldh, "We're glad to help, but honestly, I know nothing more than the words 'Ghost Ship.' What is this all about? What is the Ghost Ship? What needs to be done? Please tell us everything you know."
Dietrich Thursday August 31st, 2006 8:20:25 AM
Dietrich goes with Vauhwyt and the others to Jerald first. Heīll accompany the main party to its errands and visits.
When he hears Olynīs comment and Vorelleīs reply, he remembers the cleric almost beaten to death by the Wolves, and Vorelleīs unexpected husband. Life truely is full of surprises.
The warrior will attentively listen to the explanation about the Ghost Ship. Like Berlon, he too is a little overwhelmed by all the events, but the party has to keep moving in the shak-pool that is Dirt City.
Rose Thursday August 31st, 2006 4:31:05 PM
Rose wants to ask a few questions "What is known about the ghost ship other than it comes every hundred years and takes people?"
Theodore & Macaw Thursday August 31st, 2006 5:14:37 PM Leave it to Rose to blow the mystique away from a Dirt City legend, Theodore thinks to himself with a smile.
"In a nutshell, that's all I know as well," he agrees with his halfling friend.
Berlon Thursday August 31st, 2006 8:35:48 PM
The gnome ponders things as he makes his way towards the Catacombs. Seeing that he will be taken near Neezer's digs, he decides to stop by.
Assuming Neezer will see him, Berlon secures the contract on the party's behalf.
"Ah, yeees, Neezer, I would once again just like to apologize. As I said, we suffered a seemingly irreversable fatality in the Koshe-Marr, and, well..." his voice drops to a mutter, "...it sort of... affected me..."
"When one fails in one's duties..." he trails off. "If I offended you earlier, you have my most sincere apologies."
"If the offer is still on the table, I would like to accept the contract regarding this Ghost Ship thing, if it is still available. You *did* say partial payment in advance?"
"Annnnnd..." he continues carefully, "is there any information on the current occupants of the Prince's place?"

'Anyone could see it's just a normal ship recruiting more sailors. I meant to go prove it myself, 'xcept I got more pressing matters to tend to.' And so on, and so on."
Jeraldh stands with his own glass of wine and takes a sip. "I won't lie to you and say I know the reason for the ship or the disappearances. I just know it needs to be stopped." The albino gives you all a meaningful look. He appears to be waiting on you to say something.}
Berlon Highlight to display spoiler: {The merchant is at first cold when the gnome arrives. He quickly brightens at Berlon's apology, though. "Oh, my dear man! Of course, of course! Don't think a second more on the matter. To lose a dear friend! It is the most horrible thing in the world." He shakes his head, his eyes furrowed.
"The matter never happened, dear Berlon. Cut the event from your mind, as I have done. On to business! Getting your team back into action; that is the remedy that will cheer your souls, no doubt."
The merchant stands, using his hands to emphasize his words. "The offer is most definitely still on the table. I would trust this job with no one else! In fact, I have the contract right here." He hustles back to his desk and pulls a parchment from his top drawer. "Yes, this is it." He hands to document to Berlon.
Everything seems to be in order. The party of heroes are to be given the use of a row boat, which they must return, to get them to the ship. Upon inspecting and determing the reason for the ship's presence in Dirt City, and its connection to the disappearances. Report your findings to Neezer. In exchange for these services, you will be given one thousand gold pieces per person, five hundred pieces up front, and five hundred upon the successful completion of the job. The party is NOT to include more than eight people.
"As you can see, here at the bottom," Neezer points to four lines at the bottom of the document. "I will need at least four signatures before I can distribute the payment. Nothing personal, of course." He gives the gnome a wide smile.
"As to exactly who is in the Prince's tower, we are not sure. It appears to be those acting on their own initiative. Those without affiliation. We are still investigating, of course."}

Mookie caws, "You mean the Black Bird Gang!"
Vauhwyt laughs and says that they will be glad to do it! In the meantime, there are lots of jobs to do first. With a friendly farewell, she leads the group out of Jeraldh's and next to Neezer's. Thereafter it will be to the Wolves, then the Temple, then the WLA.
NOTE: For the Wolves, we will NOT just walk up to the front door and ask for the Alpha! At least not at first. Let's try a more subtle approach, and talk with some of our old Wolf friends, like those dwarves we saved.

Vorelle isn't sure what Jeraldh is looking for. She already said she would help. Is he looking for guarantees? He won't get them, she thinks. Life is too uncertain. Poor Jack.
After the meeting with Jeraldh, she trails along after her friends, content to go where they do now that the Wolves are on the agenda.
The dog trots by her side, getting accustomed to this strange new city.
Berlon Sunday September 3rd, 2006 2:50:37 PM
He turns to leave, but then stops and turns to Neezer. "If it's not a bother," he begins slowly, "I'd like to wait a few moments. The others in my group might be stopping by, and if they do, I have something I'd like to do. There might be some information I can provide to you..."
Dietrich Sunday September 3rd, 2006 6:36:13 PM
Dietrich is not exactly excited with the information he gets from Jerald. He was hoping for some better data, in order to be able to plan. He shows his acceptance of the task by nodding and makes ready to depart.
The fighter will go with his friends to the next point on the schedule. He still has hopes something can be done for Jack.
DM Shegger Monday September 4th, 2006 11:16:04 AM
Dietrich, Rose, Theodore, Vauhwyt, and Vorelle make their way through the Merchant Quarter and to a small room where Neezer sits behind a desk. Berlon stands nearby.
"Come in, come in!" says Neezer. Standing, his arms wide in a gesture of welcome. "Berlon here has just been telling me that you all have accepted my offer. I am sure that I speak on the City's behalf when I say 'thank you.'" He claps his hands once, smilig widely.
"Now, all that's left is to make it official. I just need you to sign this contract here." He pushes a piece of parchment forward. A quill sits in an inkpot, nearby. "Rest assured that Berlon has already scrutinized the document. Everything is in order."

Theodore & Macaw Monday September 4th, 2006 9:42:16 PM
Theodore nods to Berlon. "You've read it, then? Was everything okay?" If Berlons says it was, Theodore will sign his name to the contract.
Vauhwyt Monday September 4th, 2006 10:15:50 PM
Vauhwyt reads over the contract. She is careful to look for tricksy clauses that might come back and bite the party on the butt. She looks to find out the exact circumstances under which the contract will be satisfied. If the ship is destroyed? Driven off forever? A bargain struck with the captain to keep his ship away from DC?
She asks for an other info that Neezer's folk might have. Where will the ship appear? What usually happens when it does? Any rumors or legends?
Then there is just enough time to visit the dwarves before we go to the Temple, right? We need to tell them about Samule, ask about Vorelle's (ugh) husband, and see what they've heard about the ghost ship. Also just to socialize a bit and be friendly.
Berlon Monday September 4th, 2006 11:01:29 PM

"I have read the document and trust Neezer implicity. We should make sure we have all the information he can provide us, and, if you would all spare me a few moments..."
With that Berlon closes his eyes and clasps his hands together. He moves his lips slightly, but no sound comes out. After a few moments, his hands start to glow, but instead of the normal dark purple glow most of his divinity involves, this time they are a deep red.
He then casts his Divination.

Vauhwyt says, "What do you carre, oh slave of mine!" The liontaur's accent reveals that she is just teasing.

Rose asks. After finding out (as long as the punisment isnt bad) Rose will sign the contract.
Berlon Tuesday September 5th, 2006 11:35:24 PM
Berlon sighs. "Nothing is ever easy, is it?"
"To end the curse, you must feed the hunger and quench the thirst."
Looking at the rest of the group, he shrugs his shoulders. "Don't ask me. I don't write the news, I only report it."
"So," he adds, clapping his hands together, let's get the document signed, get our gold and plan things out."
Olyn Wednesday September 6th, 2006 1:33:23 AM
Master Clu'eth, suppose you could answer 1 question for me before I go study for spells. What can you tell me about the ghost ship? Not the tales we heard as a child, but the real story. The group is being hired to take it on when it docks and any and all information you can give me would be very beneficial to our success. Also, if you feel it is something that the group could accomplish, perhaps the temple would be willing to assist us with devices in which to help accomplish this goal. Would seem to me the destruction of this "Undead" vessel would benefit the temple as well.
Vauhwyt Wednesday September 6th, 2006 6:20:29 AM
Vauhwyt signs, thanks Neezer, and wonders if there is time to visit the wolves. "If we hurry, we can get to the wolves right away. Come on, everybody, sign and let's be done herre." Her accent reveals Vauhwyt's eagerness.
Jack @ Berlon Wednesday September 6th, 2006 11:12:27 AM
OOC Dont forget the catacom.
Vorelle and the Canine to be Named Later Wednesday September 6th, 2006 1:02:41 PM
With slow, laborious strokes, Vorelle signs her name to the document. The result is almost legible.
Vauhwyt Wednesday September 6th, 2006 3:27:04 PM
The liontaur puzzles. "It seems to me that the strangest things are what we do NOT know! Where does this ship come from? Why does it appear? Why at such intervals? What drives it? What will stop it? Is this a combat that we will have to win?"
"Think about Jack's ghost! He was able to possess people, and his touch was dangerous. But he was not evil. What if this ship is not evil? What if we have to give these ghosts peace?"
Vauhwyt suggests that one person or maybe two or three should sneak aboard the ship for some answers when it appears. She says she is going to go to the Catacombs for a quick shopping trip.
Theodore & Macaw Wednesday September 6th, 2006 4:57:36 PM
Theodore purses his lips at Berlon's curious information. "Well I sure don't know," he says.
After signing the contract, and (hopefully) collecting his share of the money, Theodore follows his friends from the small room.
"I'm going to the Catacombs. I'll meet you all at the Temple, then?" The gangly wizard walks off with anyone else going his way.
DM Shegger Wednesday September 6th, 2006 10:15:39 PM
Theodore departs from the group to visit the Catacombs.
The rest of the group, save for Olyn, make their way to the Wolves. Approaching their tower, two guards come to attention. "State your purpose!" one barks.
At the temple, Clu'eth smiles at Olyn. "Ah, my son. It seems the City is rubbing off on you. Wheeling and dealing with a sworn cleric of Wardd." Olyn can tell by the wide smile on the elder priest's face that he is jesting.
Getting serious again, "Unfortunately, I am ignorant to anything beyond the stories you speak of. As far as I know, every one who has disappeared while the Ship was docked has not returned." He shakes his head. "I don't know."
"As to some help from the Temple, I could probably dig up a couple of scrolls for you. I will see what I can find after the ritual this afternoon. Now, if you'll excuse me."
Vauhwyt Thursday September 7th, 2006 12:06:56 AM
Vauhwyt's attitude is casual but respectful. "We're here to see a friend of ours, Burt the Dwarf. We wanted to see how he's doing and maybe share some news."
She shows him her wolf-friend ring and says, "I hope we're welcome herre." Her accent reveals a little nervousness.
She adds, "By the way, I'm Vauhwyt, and these are my friends. We've done some work for the Wolves beforre."
Olyn Thursday September 7th, 2006 12:10:08 AM
Smiles. Of course master, and thank you.
Then I go study for spells.
Rose Thursday September 7th, 2006 3:10:30 AM
Rose doesnt really want to see the wolves, but she'll stay close to her friends.
Vorelle and the Canine to be Named Later Thursday September 7th, 2006 9:06:32 AM
Vorelle keeps to the back, glad to let Vauhwyt answer for the group. She concentrates instead on making sure the dog behaves himself.
Dietrich Thursday September 7th, 2006 11:50:55 AM
Dietrich accompanies his friends to the WOlves and keeps ready for trouble.
The warrior reflects about Berlonīs revelation. What could the hunger and thirst mean to the ghosts? What do they long for? Before they go to the wolves, he says to Theo:
"We need to do a thorough research about this ship. Maybe thereīs something in your and your masterīs books? About tragedies in the past involving ships, that kind of stuff."
Berlon Thursday September 7th, 2006 12:46:30 PM
After all other business is complete, Berlon rushes back to the Catacombs to finalize his purchases.
Theodore & Macaw Thursday September 7th, 2006 9:27:05 PM
"Okay," Theodore responds to Dietrich. "One of my stops today or tomorrow is Master Geoffrey's."
Then Theodore does some shopping in the Catacombs.
DM Shegger Thursday September 7th, 2006 9:36:16 PM
Theodore and Berlon spend some time at the Catacombs.
Olyn prays in the Temple.
And the rest run into a wall at the Wolves' tower.
When Vauhwyt hails the guard, asking for the whereabouts of Burt, the shorter guard spits to the side. "He ain't here, and we ain't his keepers. As to the work you done for us afore, mayhaps you ought to reacquaint yourselves with our good side, and do some more work. No get outta here."
Olyn Friday September 8th, 2006 1:16:49 AM
Continues praying for spells. <*> gonna take prolly til Clu'eth is ready to do the ritual to get all the spells. <*>
Vauhwyt Friday September 8th, 2006 11:09:46 AM
The liontaur shrugs. To her friends, she says, "Let's not waste our time herre." To the guards, she says, "No problem. By the way, if you guys ever want to know what happened to Samule the Fence, just come ask us. So long."
She leads the way to the Temple.
Rose Friday September 8th, 2006 2:44:26 PM
Rose goes along to the temple, glad she doesnt have to speak to the wolves. "Dont worry Vorelle, we'll find out what happened some other way."
Theodore & Macaw Friday September 8th, 2006 4:43:37 PM
Theodore shops at the Catacombs and then heads to the Temple.
Knowing Olyn is already there, he ask about for his friend.
DM Shegger Saturday September 9th, 2006 1:18:02 PM
OOC - I forgot to hand out the gold from Neezer to everybody. Consider that I hadn't forgotten and everyone is 500 gold richer, now.
IC - The heroes are reunited at the Temple of Wardd. After a quick explanation to Olyn about their acceptance of Neezer's contract to investigate the infamouse Ghost Ship, they hand him his share of the up front payment.
The party have about an hour's worth of relaxation time before approached by an acolyte. "Friends of the Temple, I was sent to inform you that Master Clu'eth has begun the ritual. He is not to be disturbed, but asked me to take you to another room where he will meet with you shortly."
The acolyte leads you back to the same room you had met with Clu'eth yesterday. There you wait.
Fortunately, your wait is not too long. Clu'eth appears after half an hour in the small room. He appears tired and stooped, but manages a smile for you all.
"I have spoken with our Lord," he says slowly. Olyn knows that he refers to Wardd, himself. "He has corroborated everything you have told me about your meeting with Marteaus. I'm afraid that Jack's soul is in the possession of the God of Sickness." A pained expression crosses Clu'eth's normally stout face.
He shakes his head slowly. "The way to reclaim Jack's soul lies back in Koshe Mar where you must challenge Marteaus himself. I'm afraid that this task is beyond your strength. I would advise you to put it from your minds, as much as is possible, for the nonce, at least."
A few minutes of silence pass as this terrible revelation settles on everyone. Clu'eth moves to take a seat, shaking violently. Olyn hurries forth to help the priest.
"Olyn has informed me that you all seek to solve the mystery of the Ghost Ship." The subject change is obviously designed to take everyone's mind off of Jack's troubles, but Clu'eth does not mean to diminish the gravity of the situation, rather to bring everyone's thoughts into the present. "You would be doing the City a great favor by taking on such a quest. Olyn has asked the Temple for help in this matter. Trust me when I say that I would gladly assisst you to the best of my ability. But you have taken a contract with the Merchants. We cannot also publicly support you. In this time particularly, the Temple must remain neutral. I cannot give the people of Dirt City any inclination that we are supporting one House over another, so I cannot do any more than offer my blessing and hopes that you are successful."
With more than a little assistance from Olyn, he stands. "I can always provide help for one of the Temple's own, however." He gives another slight smile and produces three scrolls from inside his robe which he hands to Olyn. (2 scrolls of Detect Undead and 1 scroll of Hide from Undead) "It is not much, but it should be helpful. Now, if you'll excuse me, I am very tired and should rest."
Olyn helps his superior to the door of the room where two acolytes quickly take over and escort Clu'eth back to his quarters.
The party is left in the small room by themselves. It is roughly 4pm. If the legends are true, the Ship will arrive the day after tomorrow.
Vauhwyt Saturday September 9th, 2006 10:55:13 PM
[OOC: Shegger? That 500 gp? I already spent it! LOL!]
Vauhwyt shares with her frinds her worry that the party does not know enough. She wants to gather info directly from the ghost ship itself. She wants to sneak onto the boat as soon as it appears, scout it out, and come back wisth some info.
She plans to sneak on under the cover of a Darkness spell, with Hide From Undead and disguised as a zombie.
She also has to do some training at the WLA before then.
[OOC: More later.]
Berlon Saturday September 9th, 2006 11:43:16 PM
Upon hearing the about the ritual, Berlon simply shrugs his shoulders and says nothing.
He seems a little confused at the gift, but just shakes his head a bit.
Rather than comment on anything, he listens to what anyone else might come up with.
Olyn Sunday September 10th, 2006 12:07:25 AM
Takes a ruby out of pouch and hands it to an acolyte. Take this and give it to the church treasurer and tell him its in memory of Mad Jack.
I did not know Mad Jack all that well. What I saw of him he was a bit impulsive and arrogant, but his heart seemed to be in the right place. His action of sacrificing himself so that we could escape is proof of that. And for that Mad Jack I thank you and hope that one day we will be able to bring you the peace you deserve.
<is silent for a moment>
Then, turning to the others. Shame on us. All of us. A scourge to our city is coming. One that threatens the lives of our family, our friends and our community and we make deals with houses to do what we should be doing of our own free will. Jeraldh didn't persuade me to do this because of him adding money to the pot. Or because of a merchant house. I offered to do this to save his children and the children of <smacks fist on a table> Our City. And so should have each of you.
Looks at the proffered pouch of gold and shakes his head. Take that back to that house saying I did not sign any contract so therefore am not obligated to them for anything. I don't do this for recognition or payment. We should all turn that money back in with the same distinction. Then ask the city for help. I see noone else stepping up to take on this task, and everyone has a vested stake in us succeeding. So therefore should help us.
Let us send runners to every house and temple with this news and have criers go forth. With any help being sent here. Haste is a must for day after tomorrow is when we must act.
Vauhwyt Sunday September 10th, 2006 7:24:27 AM
Vauhwyt shakes her head. "Olyn, you know us. We would have done it anyway. We only delayed in the hope of raising Jack first . But you still don't understand Dirt City. If we refuse money, people will think us fools. If we ask for help, people will think us weak. Yes, it is good to try to rid the city of this curse. But if we do it on our own and if we demand a decent pay, we will be seen as strong and competent. THAT's what we need to survive herre."
The liontaur's accent reveals her passion.
"My old friend, if you give back Neezer's gold, he will either think you are a fool, insulting him, or are playing a political game. If you keep the money, he will think you are a square dealer who can be trusted. Please, keep the money. If you like, donate it to a worthy cause."
"Besides, I already spent Neezer's cash on magic items to help us solve the problem of the ghost ship."
Olyn Sunday September 10th, 2006 11:51:18 AM
No.
Rose Sunday September 10th, 2006 4:45:08 PM
Rose stays silent not wanting to get involved in the discussion between Olyn and Vauhwyt, but finally she has to speak. "Olyn, as bad as it seems it is life in dirt city. I would rather that people think we do this for money than think we are playing politics. I shouldnt like to wake up one night with assassins standing over my bed. And although we are taking money that money will help outfit us so we can do the job and not die."
Theodore & Macaw Sunday September 10th, 2006 5:27:43 PM
Theodore is disheartened by the news about Jack. "I feel helpless," he says to no one in particular. His head hangs and he looks very pathetic.
As an argument heats up between Vauhwyt and Olyn, Theodore decides to head out. "I'm going to visit Master Geoffrey's. He might have some information on the Ghost Ship."
Olyn Sunday September 10th, 2006 5:41:40 PM
Ive lived here all my life, like most of you. And I don't recall anyone getting murdered because they chose to not accept payment for something their moral fiber bade them to do.
There comes a time when people, like ourselves, must rise up and take a stand instead of bowing down to the thinking of the norm. I personally do not give a rats rear what someone may think or not think of my motives for doing something. The reason this city is becoming a cess pool is because noone will take on the challenge. When someone finally does something because it is the right thing to do not because of who is paying the highest, then others of same mind will take notice and they in turn will do what is right.
Now, and I say this from my heart. If this group won't start looking to a bright future. Take chances on the betterment of the city over our well-being. And doing things because we know it to be good. Then I feel a re-evaluation of priorities will be required.
Im not saying that my way is the best way but what I am saying is we need to stop thinking like the city and start thinking like heroe's.
Vauhwyt Monday September 11th, 2006 5:48:46 AM
"Your moral compass is stronger than mine, friend Olyn!" says Vauhwyt. "And the diversity in our group is one of the things that makes us strong."
She leaves the conversation at that.
Dietrich Monday September 11th, 2006 3:17:16 PM
Liek Theo, Dietrich is quite upset about the news concerning JAck. If it were just death, the warrior could deal with it easily, but having his soul in Marteus power is something different. He still imagines if there is really nothing that could be done.
The knight remembers Berlonīs comment about having two Gods to counter one. Maybe the party could do something to persuade a good God to intervene? Maybe an exchnge of prisoners?
When Olyn starts rumbling about the deal with the MErchants, Dietrich canīt understand him. Whatīs the problem with receiving a reward for risking their lifes? And didnīt we choose to keep friends with the Merchants? Itīs true, heīd prefer to do the assignemt on behalf of the whole City, but he doesnīt see the evil in getting resources from the MErchants, resources the party will need to effectively fight against dangerous and powerful enemies.
Vorelle and Champ Monday September 11th, 2006 8:05:31 PM
Suddenly Vorelle stops, turns, and looks at the dog. "Ch-Champ?" she asks.
The dog doesn't reply, but Vorelle seems satisfied anyway. The dog will answer to Champ.
Vorelle doesn't respond to Olyn and Vauhwyt's argument, but looks troubled.
DM Shegger Monday September 11th, 2006 9:30:05 PM
The revelation about Jack sparks a debate about the Ghost Ship. As Vauhwyt and Olyn discuss morals and how they apply to Dirt City, Theodore decides to pay a visit to Geoffrey.
The wizard excuses himself and heads out. The rest of the group remains at the Temple, for now at least.
A day and a half remains before the appearance of the Ghost Ship. Vauhwyt discusses plans to sneak on board and glean some information before boarding in force. But isn't that the whole point of the quest? To get information?
Plans need to be made, a consensus needs to be reached.

Vauhwyt and Mookie d20+1=17 Monday September 11th, 2006 10:02:47 PM
Vauhwyt goes over her plan again. She will don a disguise of a zombie, and be under the influence of Hide from Undead, and be Hiding in Darkness (with elixers of Hide and Stealth too boot. So the odds are no one will see her, and if they do, the Hide from Undead may protect her, and if it doesn't, maybe an observer will ignore a lowly undead. If all that fails, Vauhwyt figures that an Expeditious Retreat spell will let her run away.
She more than welcomes others from the party -- heck, we can all go! The Darkness is big enough to hide everybody. But if you are not stealthy, you really might want to invest in elixers of hidung and stealth. At 250 gold a pop, Vauhwyt says, spending Neezer's 500 gold on stealth seems like a good idea.
After we know more, she adds, maybe we can figure out how to send the ghost ship to its eternal rest.
Comments?
In the meantime, she spends a day and a half at the WLA, training and listening to rumors. She keeps her ears peeled for news about the Ghost Ship or other unearthly stuff.
Untrained Gather Info check is a 17! And maybe with bonuses because of V's WLA membership?
Olyn Tuesday September 12th, 2006 1:41:58 AM
Hrmphing and shaking his head as everyone runs off. Figures. Then I ask master Clu'eth if it would be ok to use the temple as a base of operations before I send out the runners. Otherwise I go to the tavern and rent a room big enough to use as a base of operations. I pay to have runners sent to the various houses asking for help in defending the city once and for all against the threat of the ghost ship. I also speak with the captain of the guard and see if he will help strategize a plan should the attempts of the group prove fruitless. I explain to all that this is not just a worry that one house should rise up to, it is something that effects everyone, both up top and down below. I also send out runners to the other temples asking for aid and to the various training organizations and to the group telling them what is happening.
Rose Tuesday September 12th, 2006 2:51:08 AM "Vauhwyt, how do we know if those on the ship are really ghosts or undead? Your disguise may be completely wrong and get you killed. Rose asks before Vauhwyt takes off
Rose knows the group and the city need to prepare for the ghost ship, but how all that is known is every 100 years a ship appears and people disappear. Nobody knows if the people just get offered good money to go work in another country, or anything else. It might not even be the same ship each time!.
Rose will do her shopping in the catacombs and train a bit at the wla.
Tomorrow Rose will hole up in her aunts lab and make a wand to use.
Vauhwyt to Rose Tuesday September 12th, 2006 7:44:48 AM
"Yeah," says Vauhwyt to Rose, "maybe it isn't even undead. Maybe it's elves -- they live for hundreds of years."
Mookie says, "Yeah, and maybe its Tinkerbell taking good little boys off to fight Captain Hook in Never Never Land!"
Vauhwyt says to Mookie, "Do you have to be so illiterate, servant of mine?"
"What?!" squawks Mookie. "I didn't do nothing."
"You said 'its' when you meant 'it's' -- my foolish feathered friend."
"Apostrophe you, Boss!"
Vauhwyt laughs. "That's my alma mater!"
"Anyway," Vauhwyt says to Rose, "odds are they won't even see me in the shadowy illumination created by the somewhat poorly named 'Darkness' spell."
Dietrich Tuesday September 12th, 2006 8:20:07 AM
Dietrich listens to his friends. Heīs happy with Theo going after some information. As Rose said, the only thing we know at the moment is that this ship appears and people disappear, but maybe people before us wrote about it and we can find wisdom there.
He isnīt too fond of Vauhwytīs daring plan. The warrior likes to have scouts making a reconnaiscence before any battle, but he hopes Vauhwyt wonīt try to solve the whole mistery on her own...
The knight quite likes Olynīs idea of getting the support of other City members. Heīd help by writing to his own contacts, particularly the people that helped the party before at the square against the Prince. Itīs important for the common people to know the party acts on their behalf, and not only for one or other powerful group.
Finally, Dietrich repeats his point about JAck, waiting for some enlightenment from his more erudite friends.
Berlon Tuesday September 12th, 2006 9:34:11 AM
Berlon listens intently to Vauhwyt's ideas.
"While it *is* always possible that we could be dealing with fake pirates or jerks in butterfly suits or extremely clever gnome illusionists, I doubt that's the case here, given the history of the ship as well as Neezer's concern."
"As far as elves, it COULDN'T be elves. Elves would never cause any sort of large scale suffering, would they?"
"Sending scouts out is optimal, but we probably want to send either myself or..." he pauses slightly, "we might want to send a scout that can perform certain rituals. I can cast Air Walk, but, if they have any arcane types, one Dispel Magic can send someone crashing to the waves. I'm guessing Vauhwyt doesn't swim well in crashing waves?"
"And we are forgetting one of the Great Rules: list your assets and your liabilities."
Berlon recites from the contract: "The party of heroes are to be given the use of a row boat, which they must return, to get them to the ship. Upon inspecting and determing the reason for the ship's presence in Dirt City, and its connection to the disappearances. Report your findings to Neezer."
"One of the keys, of course, is the rowboat. If we leave it behind, all it takes is a bored child with a stick smacking the boat. If we take it with us, a stray flaming arrow, a spell, lots of things can go wrong."
"I've already procured us a magical boat to use, but if we leave the row boat behind someone will have to watch over it. Either someone from the party, or, preferably, someone we trust."
Vauhwyt Tuesday September 12th, 2006 9:52:43 AM
"Ooh! I like the sound of a magic boat. If anyone is not stealthy at all, they could stay to safeguard that," says Vauhwyt.
Theodore & Macaw d20+16=28 Tuesday September 12th, 2006 6:19:30 PM

Vauhwyt Wednesday September 13th, 2006 5:58:00 AM

Dietrich Wednesday September 13th, 2006 8:19:55 AM
Although no plan has been worked out, partymembers are already leaving to their own businesses, which makes the warrior worry about yet another rushed adventure. Heīll go to the catacombs himself (OOC: I cantīfind the catacombs anymor!!! Please help me in my stupidity! Whereīs it gone?)
Dietrich wonders what happened to his own messengers in support of Olynīs? Nobody seems to have returned.
And heīs a little annoyed that everyone seems to have completely forgotten about Jack, not caring to answer his question.
When Vorelle speaks, he looks at the dog and wonders if it can really be trusted. Anyway, the knight isnīt sneaky at all, and would probably have to stay back as a guard too. A good opportunity to make friends with animal, as heīs quite fond of dogs himself.
Rose Wednesday September 13th, 2006 10:53:32 AM
Rose spends the day in her aunt's lab making a wand of unseen servant, hoopefully it will be useful.
Rose, more than a sentance Wednesday September 13th, 2006 11:13:11 AM
Rose will spend the night getting organized. She'll loop her new beltpouches on her belt and organize where things are. In one she'll only put her healing potions making sure she remembers on which side of the pouch each type is.
She'll make some tea with honey and fill up a waterskin with it, then she'll fill up the other waterskins with water. She'll pack a few snacks, but since they're only to be gone one day will leave most of the food at the apartment stored in mouse proof cabinets. Although they probably wont be needed she'll clean and repack the camping supplies and most of her clothes. When she's all done she'll clean the apartment and go to bed.
the next morning she's up bright and early and headed for her aunts where she has a great big breakfast of all her favorite things and a nice talk with her aunt before taking sandwich, apples, and tea to the workshop where it will be put on a shelf till lunch. After working all day on making a wand Rose emerges from the workshop tired but she heads on over to her parents for dinner, more talk and again all of her favorite foods. Rose will be sure to get home at a reasonable time so that she can get enough sleep for the next day.

OOC - Dietrich, you didn't specify who you were sending letters to. You just said that Dietrich writes to his own contacts. I don't know who those are.
IC - Each of the heroes has their own agenda for the day before the Ghost Ship is to arrive. Whether it's training, relaxing, seeking information, or preparing for the coming investion, everyone is busy.
The fateful day arrives and the City is deathly silent. Doors are barred and bolted. No one exits their homes. Dirt City is vacant.
The only souls brave, or insane, enough to traverse the City are yourselves and a few young men with something to prove. These men walk just a little too quickly, though. Like they want to be seen out of doors, and then get back inside where it's safe.
Above, the day is heavy with fog. No ship can be seen out in the harbor, and it is unsafe for any ships, or boats, to set sail in such conditions.
As night falls, the fog begins to roll out with the help of strong winds. With the winds come a cold, hard rain. The kind that stings when it strikes flesh.
And there in the distance, just barely within range of sight, a dark ominous shape waits. The Ship has arrived.
Vauhwyt and Mookie Thursday September 14th, 2006 7:19:54 AM
At nightfall, Vauhwyt and Mookie join her friends at The Docks and look out through the mists at the ship.
"Friend Berlon, this magic boat of yours, is it invisible or something? How obvious will it be if we just row up to the ship?"
Vauhwyt tries to figure out the chance of being observed if they row the boat up to the ship, given that it is misty AND that the boat will be in the Darkness spell. Keep in mind that a "Darkness" spell does not create darkness at all, but it does create "shadowy illumination."
Also, how long will it take to get out to the ship?
"I am thinking about swimming up to the boat, but I do not want to be apart from you all. But maybe it is worth it to check out the underside of the boat. Maybe there is a clue below the waterline. Undead do not breathe -- maybe they are underwater."
"By the way, who is coming? Who is stealthy and quiet enough?
Dietrich Thursday September 14th, 2006 8:43:35 AM
OOC: Weīll have to work out the details of those contacts later, as, the way things happened, everything was kept pretty general. It were common people that engaged against the Princeīs men and Dietrich has had some personal contact with them, but always only in general terms.
At Olynīs question, DIetrich repeats the possibility mentioned by Berlon some time ago, about having two Gods put against one. And his own thought of the possibility of making services to a good God and this entity "negotiate" with Marteus, maybe an exchange of prisoners or something of the kind.
Above ground, Dietrich enjoys the heavy weather. He likes strong winds, as it reminds him of his paternal Windbourne Hills. The knight is worried that the party couldnīt get any hint of information about what awaits them, besides that there may be undead.
He isnīt stealthy at all and will stay on the boat, possibly together with Champ. But he says: "After your first explorations, come back to call me! (touching the sword) This baby here should be of use."
Berlon Thursday September 14th, 2006 10:46:59 AM
"Don't worry, Dietrich, the matter of Jack has not been forgotten. As far as I'm concerned we still have two options ahead of us..." his voice gets lower as it starts to trail off.
"But first, let us deal with the matter at hand."
"Vauhwyt, the Quaal's Token isn't invisible, but it is much less likely to send us to a watery grave than a regular rowboat is."
"Also, there is Normal Stealth, and there is Undead Stealth. Olyn and myself should be on point for this mission, enhanced by whatever arcane stealth the rest can provide, mostly for, in the unlikely event, the scenario that there are non-undead on the ship, such as the previously mentioned theory of elves in rubber masks."
Rose Thursday September 14th, 2006 1:14:11 PM "I think splitting up would be one of the worst things to do. Even if someone goes ahead to scout how will those left behind know if they need help or not? We should all try to go." Rose says as she looks at the ship.
Olyn Thursday September 14th, 2006 2:11:32 PM
First and foremost, like Berlon says, we need to determine if these beings really are undead and if so, I can make it where we are all invisible to them. If they are alive, lets just destroy the ship and pick off those who don't drown. And rescue anyone they have captured already. Second, if they are undead and we are invisible to them we need to search around for a way to destroy them in the least amount of actions. And thirdly, I agree with Rose. Everytime we have split up something bad befalls us. For once let us stick together and for the gods' sake inform the group before you do something so we can prepare to react to it.
Vauwyt and Mookie Thursday September 14th, 2006 6:38:00 PM
"Ok!" says Vauhwyt, "This is what I'm hearing:"
"One, we need to know morre. Two, don't split up the party. Three, when we know morre, we'll know what to do."
"So how does this sound -- everybody goes in the magic feather boat to the ship. If we are lucky, we'll be hidden by mist and Darkness, so they won;t detect our approach."
"Then, a few of us will go aboard and scout around -- just for a little bit, and just to find out morre. Then we report back."
"I'm thinking that with my Message magic, the people on the feather boat can be told everythign that goes on in real time by the scouts as they scout."
"Sound like a plan?"
"I'll be one of the initial scouts. Who else is with me?"
Vorelle Thursday September 14th, 2006 7:47:27 PM
"It's a g-g-good p-plan," Vorelle says to Vauhwyt. "I-I c-c-can h-help sc-scout."
Theodore & Macaw Thursday September 14th, 2006 10:00:30 PM
Theodore hides from the rain beneath his hood. Listening to his friends discussing their options, he offers his own. "I too think we should all go to the ship. I have couple of spells that could get us on the ship quickly if we need to."
He peers thoughtfully at the ship out in the distance. The many stories of the Ghost Ship's legacy come back to him. He smiles as a shiver runs up his spine. "It looks as if we're about to step into a children's tale, friends."

Oni Highlight to display spoiler: {You felt a mental tugging that lead you to the harbor of Dirt City earlier today. There you came across four hardy young men; Sharif Thorir, Arngrim, and Leo. The four men smile at you calmly as they prepare a small boat. It seems they are feeling the same pull.
After half an hour of sea travel, you find yourself at the ship. A rope ladder is lowered from the deck and the five of you clamber aboard.
Standing on the deck is the apparition of captain. He flickers in and out of sight, his nappy, ghostly beard swaying gently in the violent wind.
"Arr, me hearties! Thanks be ta ye fer heedin' me call. Me lass needs savin' and yer the souls ta be helpin' me. Arr!"
The four younglings you came with give each other glances before smiling. Adventure! That's what these men came for, and it seems they'll get their chance to shine.
You feel the familiar surge of adrenaline wash over you as you stand before the Captain.}
Everyone else Highlight to display spoiler: {Standing at the water's edge, options are bandied about. Berlon reveals that he has the ability to summon a magical boat, which might be more reliable than the row boat on loan from the Merchants, which is tethered a few feet from your location. By row boat or magical boat, you figure it would take you about half an hour to reach the ship.
Berlon and Olyn both agree on putting the clerics up front.
Olyn and Rose think they shouldn't split up. Vauhwyt, Vorelle, and Dietrich are proponents of sending up a scouting mission first.
Time passes slowly. The shadow in the distance remains motionless. The rain falls heavy, and the wind blows strong.}
Vauhwyt and Mookie Friday September 15th, 2006 6:08:39 AM
"Well friends, let's get this show on the road. Good Berlon, how's about calling forth this magic boat?"
About 15 minutes our from the boat, Vauhwyt will cast her darkness spell (from a scroll).
About 10 minutes out from the boat, Vauwhyt will begin casting other spells, starting with Alter Self. She is careful to take off certain items first, though, not wanting them to disappear when she changes shape.
Dietrich d20+7=8 Friday September 15th, 2006 8:20:09 AM
Dietrich likes Vauhwytīs plan, as long as the scouting party returns quickly. Like Olyn and Rose, Dietrich is wary of splitting up the party, but having a quick reconnaiscence sounds good and he woudnīt be of any help in that.
Should there be a way of getting everyone in the party stealthy, Dietrich would vote for all to go together.
When the magic boat is ready, the knight makes a prayer to Domi and enters. HE also gives his hand to Champ to sniff and trys to make acquaintancy with the dog. (handle animal 8, nat 1 not a good start)
Olyn Friday September 15th, 2006 10:07:25 AM
Steps on board the boat once it appears and sits securely near the front.
Makes sure the scrolls of Invisibility to Undead are at the ready reach and hands another one to Berlon.
Says a quick prayer to Wardd and then makes sure his crossbow is cocked.

Theodore & Macaw Friday September 15th, 2006 10:55:09 PM
Theodore is waiting patiently on Berlon to produce the magical boat when a thought occurs to him. "You know, we have two boats. Why not take them both in case something happens to the other. As a safety precaution, so to speak. It also provides more options should the need arise. You never know what's going to happen."
Vauhwyt and Mookie Friday September 15th, 2006 11:03:16 PM
Vauhwyt thinks Theo has a point, provided that someone among the party has a modicum of skill in handling watercraft. But if the skills of a sailor are foreign to all, then better, maybe, just to take the magic boat that will steer for them.
DM Shegger Friday September 15th, 2006 11:05:41 PM
Oni Highlight to display spoiler: {The ship is large. "Tis a longship, matey," offers the ghostly captain. His eye follows you as you appraise his ship. "A beauty, isn't she? She be named Odinjar Dreki. There once was a time that name was feared all along this here coast." He chuckles to himself, lost in a memory so distant it becomes history.
As you walk the ship, you note that it is quite long, seventy-five feet, to be exact. A single mast shoots from the deck, a black sail stands silent atop it. A ballista is mounted facing the bow. It looks to be in need of serious repair, however. There's no way it could be used in its current state.
Your four companions also turn an appraising eye on the ship, though not so detailed as yourself, before deciding to toss their things below decks and settle in for the trip.}
Everyone else Highlight to display spoiler: {More plans are detailed, and several of the heroes think ahead to their exact actions as they head toward the ship. Unfortunately, it seems Berlon is a might sluggish with producing his magical boat. Perhaps a little prodding is in order?
Theodore suggests taking both boats, a task that would indeed be possible to manage with seven people. The question remains how wise that would be. Then again, it seems there are too many questions and way too little answers.
But hey, that's the life of an adventurer!
In the meantime, you're not getting any drier or warmer. The weather shows no sign of slackening so it's now or never.}
Berlon Saturday September 16th, 2006 10:52:38 AM
"Well, one way or another, I think we need to make sure nothing happens to the boat the Merchants "loaned" us. It's not that I don't trust them, it's just that the contract specifically says the boat must be returned."
With that the gnome reaches into his pocket and pulls out a feather. He raises it into the air, and after a quick flash of light a very large boat in the shape of a swan appears.
Quaal's Feather Token, Swan Boat - can hold up to 32 medium characters, moves 60', lasts 1 day
Rose Saturday September 16th, 2006 12:26:13 PM "Look around, there's nobody out to take or damage the boat everyone is hiding from the ghost ship." Rose will get into the swanboat last as with Vauhwyt taking up alot of room in the boat Rose may end up sitting on someones lap. Rose will drink some tea and water so she wont be thirsty on the ship.
Theodore & Macaw Sunday September 17th, 2006 11:09:06 AM
Theodore shrugs. "Okay, I was just offering up another possibility."
As Theodore moves to board Berlon's boat, he steps on the hem of his too long pants and tumbles to the wet ground in a heap. He lets out a violent curse in the nature of Dietrich before standing back to his feet, a nasty look etched across his face. He tries to wipe off the dirt now on his clothes, but it's no use. The rain has made it mud.
Looking up to his friends, he suddenly realizes the terrible oath he just uttered and quickly brings his hand to his mouth, blushing deeply.
"Ooh, sorry," he mutters, quickly hitching up his pants and stepping onto the boat.
Rose Sunday September 17th, 2006 2:15:45 PM "Roll up the hems of those pants Theo." Rose whispers as she rummages in her bag of holding, pulls out her sewing set and hands him a few pins (up to dm if they are straight pins or saftey pins because I'm not sure if saftey pins were invented.)
"It's your own fault you know you should have had me hem them up it only would have taken 10 minutes or so."
Vorelle and Champ d20+4=20 Sunday September 17th, 2006 4:39:33 PM
"Ch-Ch-Champ," Vorelle says, leading her dog to the rowboat the Merchant's Guild lent the group. "G-guard. G-guard. G-good dog."
[Handle Animal 20]
She then steps gingerly into the magic boat. She isn't sure whether being magic makes it better or worse than a regular boat. It's still a boat, after all. She clings to the sides and hopes they reach their destination safely.
Dietrich Monday September 18th, 2006 8:23:00 AM
Dietrich listens to the idea of having a second boat. If it could be hidden and handled, it surely would be a good thing. It could be towed to the magic boat, so handling would be easier.
Behind the heavy steel helmet, the knight smiles at Theoīs swearing, and he thinks: "Itīs time to take the boy with me to the fun parts of the City."
Dietrich continues smiling at Roseīs comment. His rough marching boots are full of mud already, and this will be the least of their problems... In the best case, this set of clothes will be totally destroyed, by blood and foul flesh. "Such is life"
Olyn Monday September 18th, 2006 12:01:59 PM
