Vorelle and the Canine to be Named Later Monday September 4th, 2006 6:13:50 PM
Vorelle knows her letters, but not well. She takes her time puzzling over the contract, trying to understand it before she signs it.
Theodore & Macaw Monday September 4th, 2006 9:42:16 PM
Theodore nods to Berlon. "You've read it, then? Was everything okay?" If Berlons says it was, Theodore will sign his name to the contract.
Vauhwyt Monday September 4th, 2006 10:15:50 PM
Vauhwyt reads over the contract. She is careful to look for tricksy clauses that might come back and bite the party on the butt. She looks to find out the exact circumstances under which the contract will be satisfied. If the ship is destroyed? Driven off forever? A bargain struck with the captain to keep his ship away from DC?
She asks for an other info that Neezer's folk might have. Where will the ship appear? What usually happens when it does? Any rumors or legends?
Then there is just enough time to visit the dwarves before we go to the Temple, right? We need to tell them about Samule, ask about Vorelle's (ugh) husband, and see what they've heard about the ghost ship. Also just to socialize a bit and be friendly.
Berlon Monday September 4th, 2006 11:01:29 PM
Berlon is happy once everyone arrives. "Hail, friends. Once we have signed the document and," he turns to Neezer, "collected our partial pre-payment, we should really prepare ourselves."
"I have read the document and trust Neezer implicity. We should make sure we have all the information he can provide us, and, if you would all spare me a few moments..."
With that Berlon closes his eyes and clasps his hands together. He moves his lips slightly, but no sound comes out. After a few moments, his hands start to glow, but instead of the normal dark purple glow most of his divinity involves, this time they are a deep red.
He then casts his Divination.
"Oh wise and merciful Alemi, please assist us with your grace and wisdom!"
"How should we best prepare to rid this city from the curse of the Ghost Ship?"

Vauhwyt and Mookie Tuesday September 5th, 2006 9:10:21 PM
As Vauhwyt looks over the contract, Mookie hops on her shoulder and takes a peek.
"What's this?" the crow caws. "If we fail and live, then we are to be sold at the slave market of Osto? And if we fail and die then we have to raise ourselves and then report to the Osto Slave Market? That does not seem fair!"
Vauhwyt says, "What do you carre, oh slave of mine!" The liontaur's accent reveals that she is just teasing.
"Ouch!" says Mookie.

At Neezer's Highlight to display spoiler: {The contract is pretty straightforward. The jist of it is that the heroes are to discover the purpose of the Ghost Ship's presence in Dirt City and its connection the disappearing youths.
Unfortunately, Neezer has no other facts about the ship. Just speculation.
Berlon calls on the party to wait a minute so he can ask a question of his god.}
Berlon Highlight to display spoiler: {You feel a brief connection that fills you with vast peace, as if you were falling gently through blue skies without the threat of hitting the ground.

Berlon sighs. "Nothing is ever easy, is it?"
"To end the curse, you must feed the hunger and quench the thirst."
Looking at the rest of the group, he shrugs his shoulders. "Don't ask me. I don't write the news, I only report it."
"So," he adds, clapping his hands together, let's get the document signed, get our gold and plan things out."
Olyn Wednesday September 6th, 2006 1:33:23 AM
Master Clu'eth, suppose you could answer 1 question for me before I go study for spells. What can you tell me about the ghost ship? Not the tales we heard as a child, but the real story. The group is being hired to take it on when it docks and any and all information you can give me would be very beneficial to our success. Also, if you feel it is something that the group could accomplish, perhaps the temple would be willing to assist us with devices in which to help accomplish this goal. Would seem to me the destruction of this "Undead" vessel would benefit the temple as well.
Vauhwyt Wednesday September 6th, 2006 6:20:29 AM
Vauhwyt signs, thanks Neezer, and wonders if there is time to visit the wolves. "If we hurry, we can get to the wolves right away. Come on, everybody, sign and let's be done herre." Her accent reveals Vauhwyt's eagerness.

Vorelle and the Canine to be Named Later Wednesday September 6th, 2006 1:02:41 PM
With slow, laborious strokes, Vorelle signs her name to the document. The result is almost legible.
Vauhwyt Wednesday September 6th, 2006 3:27:04 PM
The liontaur puzzles. "It seems to me that the strangest things are what we do NOT know! Where does this ship come from? Why does it appear? Why at such intervals? What drives it? What will stop it? Is this a combat that we will have to win?"
"Think about Jack's ghost! He was able to possess people, and his touch was dangerous. But he was not evil. What if this ship is not evil? What if we have to give these ghosts peace?"
Vauhwyt suggests that one person or maybe two or three should sneak aboard the ship for some answers when it appears. She says she is going to go to the Catacombs for a quick shopping trip.
Theodore & Macaw Wednesday September 6th, 2006 4:57:36 PM
Theodore purses his lips at Berlon's curious information. "Well I sure don't know," he says.
After signing the contract, and (hopefully) collecting his share of the money, Theodore follows his friends from the small room.
"I'm going to the Catacombs. I'll meet you all at the Temple, then?" The gangly wizard walks off with anyone else going his way.
DM Shegger Wednesday September 6th, 2006 10:15:39 PM
Theodore departs from the group to visit the Catacombs.
The rest of the group, save for Olyn, make their way to the Wolves. Approaching their tower, two guards come to attention. "State your purpose!" one barks.
At the temple, Clu'eth smiles at Olyn. "Ah, my son. It seems the City is rubbing off on you. Wheeling and dealing with a sworn cleric of Wardd." Olyn can tell by the wide smile on the elder priest's face that he is jesting.
Getting serious again, "Unfortunately, I am ignorant to anything beyond the stories you speak of. As far as I know, every one who has disappeared while the Ship was docked has not returned." He shakes his head. "I don't know."
"As to some help from the Temple, I could probably dig up a couple of scrolls for you. I will see what I can find after the ritual this afternoon. Now, if you'll excuse me."
Vauhwyt Thursday September 7th, 2006 12:06:56 AM
Vauhwyt's attitude is casual but respectful. "We're here to see a friend of ours, Burt the Dwarf. We wanted to see how he's doing and maybe share some news."
She shows him her wolf-friend ring and says, "I hope we're welcome herre." Her accent reveals a little nervousness.
She adds, "By the way, I'm Vauhwyt, and these are my friends. We've done some work for the Wolves beforre."

Vorelle and the Canine to be Named Later Thursday September 7th, 2006 9:06:32 AM
Vorelle keeps to the back, glad to let Vauhwyt answer for the group. She concentrates instead on making sure the dog behaves himself.
Dietrich Thursday September 7th, 2006 11:50:55 AM
Dietrich accompanies his friends to the WOlves and keeps ready for trouble.
The warrior reflects about Berlon´s revelation. What could the hunger and thirst mean to the ghosts? What do they long for? Before they go to the wolves, he says to Theo:
"We need to do a thorough research about this ship. Maybe there´s something in your and your master´s books? About tragedies in the past involving ships, that kind of stuff."
Berlon Thursday September 7th, 2006 12:46:30 PM
After all other business is complete, Berlon rushes back to the Catacombs to finalize his purchases.
Theodore & Macaw Thursday September 7th, 2006 9:27:05 PM
"Okay," Theodore responds to Dietrich. "One of my stops today or tomorrow is Master Geoffrey's."
Then Theodore does some shopping in the Catacombs.
DM Shegger Thursday September 7th, 2006 9:36:16 PM
Theodore and Berlon spend some time at the Catacombs.
Olyn prays in the Temple.
And the rest run into a wall at the Wolves' tower.
When Vauhwyt hails the guard, asking for the whereabouts of Burt, the shorter guard spits to the side. "He ain't here, and we ain't his keepers. As to the work you done for us afore, mayhaps you ought to reacquaint yourselves with our good side, and do some more work. No get outta here."
Olyn Friday September 8th, 2006 1:16:49 AM

Vauhwyt Friday September 8th, 2006 11:09:46 AM
The liontaur shrugs. To her friends, she says, "Let's not waste our time herre." To the guards, she says, "No problem. By the way, if you guys ever want to know what happened to Samule the Fence, just come ask us. So long."
She leads the way to the Temple.

DM Shegger Saturday September 9th, 2006 1:18:02 PM
OOC - I forgot to hand out the gold from Neezer to everybody. Consider that I hadn't forgotten and everyone is 500 gold richer, now.
IC - The heroes are reunited at the Temple of Wardd. After a quick explanation to Olyn about their acceptance of Neezer's contract to investigate the infamouse Ghost Ship, they hand him his share of the up front payment.
The party have about an hour's worth of relaxation time before approached by an acolyte. "Friends of the Temple, I was sent to inform you that Master Clu'eth has begun the ritual. He is not to be disturbed, but asked me to take you to another room where he will meet with you shortly."
The acolyte leads you back to the same room you had met with Clu'eth yesterday. There you wait.
Fortunately, your wait is not too long. Clu'eth appears after half an hour in the small room. He appears tired and stooped, but manages a smile for you all.
"I have spoken with our Lord," he says slowly. Olyn knows that he refers to Wardd, himself. "He has corroborated everything you have told me about your meeting with Marteaus. I'm afraid that Jack's soul is in the possession of the God of Sickness." A pained expression crosses Clu'eth's normally stout face.
He shakes his head slowly. "The way to reclaim Jack's soul lies back in Koshe Mar where you must challenge Marteaus himself. I'm afraid that this task is beyond your strength. I would advise you to put it from your minds, as much as is possible, for the nonce, at least."
A few minutes of silence pass as this terrible revelation settles on everyone. Clu'eth moves to take a seat, shaking violently. Olyn hurries forth to help the priest.
"Olyn has informed me that you all seek to solve the mystery of the Ghost Ship." The subject change is obviously designed to take everyone's mind off of Jack's troubles, but Clu'eth does not mean to diminish the gravity of the situation, rather to bring everyone's thoughts into the present. "You would be doing the City a great favor by taking on such a quest. Olyn has asked the Temple for help in this matter. Trust me when I say that I would gladly assisst you to the best of my ability. But you have taken a contract with the Merchants. We cannot also publicly support you. In this time particularly, the Temple must remain neutral. I cannot give the people of Dirt City any inclination that we are supporting one House over another, so I cannot do any more than offer my blessing and hopes that you are successful."
With more than a little assistance from Olyn, he stands. "I can always provide help for one of the Temple's own, however." He gives another slight smile and produces three scrolls from inside his robe which he hands to Olyn. (2 scrolls of Detect Undead and 1 scroll of Hide from Undead) "It is not much, but it should be helpful. Now, if you'll excuse me, I am very tired and should rest."
Olyn helps his superior to the door of the room where two acolytes quickly take over and escort Clu'eth back to his quarters.
The party is left in the small room by themselves. It is roughly 4pm. If the legends are true, the Ship will arrive the day after tomorrow.
Vauhwyt Saturday September 9th, 2006 10:55:13 PM
[OOC: Shegger? That 500 gp? I already spent it! LOL!]
Vauhwyt shares with her frinds her worry that the party does not know enough. She wants to gather info directly from the ghost ship itself. She wants to sneak onto the boat as soon as it appears, scout it out, and come back wisth some info.
She plans to sneak on under the cover of a Darkness spell, with Hide From Undead and disguised as a zombie.
She also has to do some training at the WLA before then.
[OOC: More later.]
Berlon Saturday September 9th, 2006 11:43:16 PM
Upon hearing the about the ritual, Berlon simply shrugs his shoulders and says nothing.
He seems a little confused at the gift, but just shakes his head a bit.
Rather than comment on anything, he listens to what anyone else might come up with.
Olyn Sunday September 10th, 2006 12:07:25 AM
Takes a ruby out of pouch and hands it to an acolyte. Take this and give it to the church treasurer and tell him its in memory of Mad Jack.
I did not know Mad Jack all that well. What I saw of him he was a bit impulsive and arrogant, but his heart seemed to be in the right place. His action of sacrificing himself so that we could escape is proof of that. And for that Mad Jack I thank you and hope that one day we will be able to bring you the peace you deserve.
<is silent for a moment>
Then, turning to the others. Shame on us. All of us. A scourge to our city is coming. One that threatens the lives of our family, our friends and our community and we make deals with houses to do what we should be doing of our own free will. Jeraldh didn't persuade me to do this because of him adding money to the pot. Or because of a merchant house. I offered to do this to save his children and the children of <smacks fist on a table> Our City. And so should have each of you.
Looks at the proffered pouch of gold and shakes his head. Take that back to that house saying I did not sign any contract so therefore am not obligated to them for anything. I don't do this for recognition or payment. We should all turn that money back in with the same distinction. Then ask the city for help. I see noone else stepping up to take on this task, and everyone has a vested stake in us succeeding. So therefore should help us.
Let us send runners to every house and temple with this news and have criers go forth. With any help being sent here. Haste is a must for day after tomorrow is when we must act.
Vauhwyt Sunday September 10th, 2006 7:24:27 AM
Vauhwyt shakes her head. "Olyn, you know us. We would have done it anyway. We only delayed in the hope of raising Jack first . But you still don't understand Dirt City. If we refuse money, people will think us fools. If we ask for help, people will think us weak. Yes, it is good to try to rid the city of this curse. But if we do it on our own and if we demand a decent pay, we will be seen as strong and competent. THAT's what we need to survive herre."
The liontaur's accent reveals her passion.
"My old friend, if you give back Neezer's gold, he will either think you are a fool, insulting him, or are playing a political game. If you keep the money, he will think you are a square dealer who can be trusted. Please, keep the money. If you like, donate it to a worthy cause."
"Besides, I already spent Neezer's cash on magic items to help us solve the problem of the ghost ship."
Olyn Sunday September 10th, 2006 11:51:18 AM
No.
Rose Sunday September 10th, 2006 4:45:08 PM
Rose stays silent not wanting to get involved in the discussion between Olyn and Vauhwyt, but finally she has to speak. "Olyn, as bad as it seems it is life in dirt city. I would rather that people think we do this for money than think we are playing politics. I shouldnt like to wake up one night with assassins standing over my bed. And although we are taking money that money will help outfit us so we can do the job and not die."
Theodore & Macaw Sunday September 10th, 2006 5:27:43 PM
Theodore is disheartened by the news about Jack. "I feel helpless," he says to no one in particular. His head hangs and he looks very pathetic.
As an argument heats up between Vauhwyt and Olyn, Theodore decides to head out. "I'm going to visit Master Geoffrey's. He might have some information on the Ghost Ship."
Olyn Sunday September 10th, 2006 5:41:40 PM
Ive lived here all my life, like most of you. And I don't recall anyone getting murdered because they chose to not accept payment for something their moral fiber bade them to do.
There comes a time when people, like ourselves, must rise up and take a stand instead of bowing down to the thinking of the norm. I personally do not give a rats rear what someone may think or not think of my motives for doing something. The reason this city is becoming a cess pool is because noone will take on the challenge. When someone finally does something because it is the right thing to do not because of who is paying the highest, then others of same mind will take notice and they in turn will do what is right.
Now, and I say this from my heart. If this group won't start looking to a bright future. Take chances on the betterment of the city over our well-being. And doing things because we know it to be good. Then I feel a re-evaluation of priorities will be required.
Im not saying that my way is the best way but what I am saying is we need to stop thinking like the city and start thinking like heroe's.
Vauhwyt Monday September 11th, 2006 5:48:46 AM
"Your moral compass is stronger than mine, friend Olyn!" says Vauhwyt. "And the diversity in our group is one of the things that makes us strong."
She leaves the conversation at that.
Dietrich Monday September 11th, 2006 3:17:16 PM
Liek Theo, Dietrich is quite upset about the news concerning JAck. If it were just death, the warrior could deal with it easily, but having his soul in Marteus power is something different. He still imagines if there is really nothing that could be done.
The knight remembers Berlon´s comment about having two Gods to counter one. Maybe the party could do something to persuade a good God to intervene? Maybe an exchnge of prisoners?
When Olyn starts rumbling about the deal with the MErchants, Dietrich can´t understand him. What´s the problem with receiving a reward for risking their lifes? And didn´t we choose to keep friends with the Merchants? It´s true, he´d prefer to do the assignemt on behalf of the whole City, but he doesn´t see the evil in getting resources from the MErchants, resources the party will need to effectively fight against dangerous and powerful enemies.
Vorelle and Champ Monday September 11th, 2006 8:05:31 PM
Suddenly Vorelle stops, turns, and looks at the dog. "Ch-Champ?" she asks.
The dog doesn't reply, but Vorelle seems satisfied anyway. The dog will answer to Champ.
Vorelle doesn't respond to Olyn and Vauhwyt's argument, but looks troubled.
DM Shegger Monday September 11th, 2006 9:30:05 PM
The revelation about Jack sparks a debate about the Ghost Ship. As Vauhwyt and Olyn discuss morals and how they apply to Dirt City, Theodore decides to pay a visit to Geoffrey.
The wizard excuses himself and heads out. The rest of the group remains at the Temple, for now at least.
A day and a half remains before the appearance of the Ghost Ship. Vauhwyt discusses plans to sneak on board and glean some information before boarding in force. But isn't that the whole point of the quest? To get information?
Plans need to be made, a consensus needs to be reached.

Vauhwyt goes over her plan again. She will don a disguise of a zombie, and be under the influence of Hide from Undead, and be Hiding in Darkness (with elixers of Hide and Stealth too boot. So the odds are no one will see her, and if they do, the Hide from Undead may protect her, and if it doesn't, maybe an observer will ignore a lowly undead. If all that fails, Vauhwyt figures that an Expeditious Retreat spell will let her run away.
She more than welcomes others from the party -- heck, we can all go! The Darkness is big enough to hide everybody. But if you are not stealthy, you really might want to invest in elixers of hidung and stealth. At 250 gold a pop, Vauhwyt says, spending Neezer's 500 gold on stealth seems like a good idea.
After we know more, she adds, maybe we can figure out how to send the ghost ship to its eternal rest.
Comments?
In the meantime, she spends a day and a half at the WLA, training and listening to rumors. She keeps her ears peeled for news about the Ghost Ship or other unearthly stuff.
Untrained Gather Info check is a 17! And maybe with bonuses because of V's WLA membership?
Olyn Tuesday September 12th, 2006 1:41:58 AM
Hrmphing and shaking his head as everyone runs off. Figures. Then I ask master Clu'eth if it would be ok to use the temple as a base of operations before I send out the runners. Otherwise I go to the tavern and rent a room big enough to use as a base of operations. I pay to have runners sent to the various houses asking for help in defending the city once and for all against the threat of the ghost ship. I also speak with the captain of the guard and see if he will help strategize a plan should the attempts of the group prove fruitless. I explain to all that this is not just a worry that one house should rise up to, it is something that effects everyone, both up top and down below. I also send out runners to the other temples asking for aid and to the various training organizations and to the group telling them what is happening.
Rose Tuesday September 12th, 2006 2:51:08 AM "Vauhwyt, how do we know if those on the ship are really ghosts or undead? Your disguise may be completely wrong and get you killed. Rose asks before Vauhwyt takes off
Rose knows the group and the city need to prepare for the ghost ship, but how all that is known is every 100 years a ship appears and people disappear. Nobody knows if the people just get offered good money to go work in another country, or anything else. It might not even be the same ship each time!.
Rose will do her shopping in the catacombs and train a bit at the wla.
Tomorrow Rose will hole up in her aunts lab and make a wand to use.
Vauhwyt to Rose Tuesday September 12th, 2006 7:44:48 AM
"Yeah," says Vauhwyt to Rose, "maybe it isn't even undead. Maybe it's elves -- they live for hundreds of years."
Mookie says, "Yeah, and maybe its Tinkerbell taking good little boys off to fight Captain Hook in Never Never Land!"
Vauhwyt says to Mookie, "Do you have to be so illiterate, servant of mine?"
"What?!" squawks Mookie. "I didn't do nothing."
"You said 'its' when you meant 'it's' -- my foolish feathered friend."
"Apostrophe you, Boss!"
Vauhwyt laughs. "That's my alma mater!"
"Anyway," Vauhwyt says to Rose, "odds are they won't even see me in the shadowy illumination created by the somewhat poorly named 'Darkness' spell."
Dietrich Tuesday September 12th, 2006 8:20:07 AM
Dietrich listens to his friends. He´s happy with Theo going after some information. As Rose said, the only thing we know at the moment is that this ship appears and people disappear, but maybe people before us wrote about it and we can find wisdom there.
He isn´t too fond of Vauhwyt´s daring plan. The warrior likes to have scouts making a reconnaiscence before any battle, but he hopes Vauhwyt won´t try to solve the whole mistery on her own...
The knight quite likes Olyn´s idea of getting the support of other City members. He´d help by writing to his own contacts, particularly the people that helped the party before at the square against the Prince. It´s important for the common people to know the party acts on their behalf, and not only for one or other powerful group.
Finally, Dietrich repeats his point about JAck, waiting for some enlightenment from his more erudite friends.
Berlon Tuesday September 12th, 2006 9:34:11 AM
Berlon listens intently to Vauhwyt's ideas.
"While it *is* always possible that we could be dealing with fake pirates or jerks in butterfly suits or extremely clever gnome illusionists, I doubt that's the case here, given the history of the ship as well as Neezer's concern."
"As far as elves, it COULDN'T be elves. Elves would never cause any sort of large scale suffering, would they?"
"Sending scouts out is optimal, but we probably want to send either myself or..." he pauses slightly, "we might want to send a scout that can perform certain rituals. I can cast Air Walk, but, if they have any arcane types, one Dispel Magic can send someone crashing to the waves. I'm guessing Vauhwyt doesn't swim well in crashing waves?"
"And we are forgetting one of the Great Rules: list your assets and your liabilities."
Berlon recites from the contract: "The party of heroes are to be given the use of a row boat, which they must return, to get them to the ship. Upon inspecting and determing the reason for the ship's presence in Dirt City, and its connection to the disappearances. Report your findings to Neezer."
"One of the keys, of course, is the rowboat. If we leave it behind, all it takes is a bored child with a stick smacking the boat. If we take it with us, a stray flaming arrow, a spell, lots of things can go wrong."
"I've already procured us a magical boat to use, but if we leave the row boat behind someone will have to watch over it. Either someone from the party, or, preferably, someone we trust."
Vauhwyt Tuesday September 12th, 2006 9:52:43 AM
"Ooh! I like the sound of a magic boat. If anyone is not stealthy at all, they could stay to safeguard that," says Vauhwyt.

The liontaur stops talking (very hard for her to do!) and heads to the WLA center for training and info. She spends the day there.
Dietrich Wednesday September 13th, 2006 8:19:55 AM
Although no plan has been worked out, partymembers are already leaving to their own businesses, which makes the warrior worry about yet another rushed adventure. He´ll go to the catacombs himself (OOC: I cant´find the catacombs anymor!!! Please help me in my stupidity! Where´s it gone?)
Dietrich wonders what happened to his own messengers in support of Olyn´s? Nobody seems to have returned.
And he´s a little annoyed that everyone seems to have completely forgotten about Jack, not caring to answer his question.
When Vorelle speaks, he looks at the dog and wonders if it can really be trusted. Anyway, the knight isn´t sneaky at all, and would probably have to stay back as a guard too. A good opportunity to make friends with animal, as he´s quite fond of dogs himself.
Rose Wednesday September 13th, 2006 10:53:32 AM
Rose spends the day in her aunt's lab making a wand of unseen servant, hoopefully it will be useful.
Rose, more than a sentance Wednesday September 13th, 2006 11:13:11 AM
Rose will spend the night getting organized. She'll loop her new beltpouches on her belt and organize where things are. In one she'll only put her healing potions making sure she remembers on which side of the pouch each type is.
She'll make some tea with honey and fill up a waterskin with it, then she'll fill up the other waterskins with water. She'll pack a few snacks, but since they're only to be gone one day will leave most of the food at the apartment stored in mouse proof cabinets. Although they probably wont be needed she'll clean and repack the camping supplies and most of her clothes. When she's all done she'll clean the apartment and go to bed.
the next morning she's up bright and early and headed for her aunts where she has a great big breakfast of all her favorite things and a nice talk with her aunt before taking sandwich, apples, and tea to the workshop where it will be put on a shelf till lunch. After working all day on making a wand Rose emerges from the workshop tired but she heads on over to her parents for dinner, more talk and again all of her favorite foods. Rose will be sure to get home at a reasonable time so that she can get enough sleep for the next day.

Looks at Dietrich. What question did you have about Jack again?
Theodore & Macaw Wednesday September 13th, 2006 6:42:52 PM
Theodore is a little disappointed that Master Geoffrey doesn't have any information on the Ghost Ship. But he is happy to see him and spends some time chatting before going back to the apartments.
The next day, he spends scribing a new spell into his spellbook and relaxing in the apartment.
DM Shegger Wednesday September 13th, 2006 9:43:18 PM
OOC - Dietrich, you didn't specify who you were sending letters to. You just said that Dietrich writes to his own contacts. I don't know who those are.
IC - Each of the heroes has their own agenda for the day before the Ghost Ship is to arrive. Whether it's training, relaxing, seeking information, or preparing for the coming investion, everyone is busy.
The fateful day arrives and the City is deathly silent. Doors are barred and bolted. No one exits their homes. Dirt City is vacant.
The only souls brave, or insane, enough to traverse the City are yourselves and a few young men with something to prove. These men walk just a little too quickly, though. Like they want to be seen out of doors, and then get back inside where it's safe.
Above, the day is heavy with fog. No ship can be seen out in the harbor, and it is unsafe for any ships, or boats, to set sail in such conditions.
As night falls, the fog begins to roll out with the help of strong winds. With the winds come a cold, hard rain. The kind that stings when it strikes flesh.
And there in the distance, just barely within range of sight, a dark ominous shape waits. The Ship has arrived.
Vauhwyt and Mookie Thursday September 14th, 2006 7:19:54 AM
At nightfall, Vauhwyt and Mookie join her friends at The Docks and look out through the mists at the ship.
"Friend Berlon, this magic boat of yours, is it invisible or something? How obvious will it be if we just row up to the ship?"
Vauhwyt tries to figure out the chance of being observed if they row the boat up to the ship, given that it is misty AND that the boat will be in the Darkness spell. Keep in mind that a "Darkness" spell does not create darkness at all, but it does create "shadowy illumination."
Also, how long will it take to get out to the ship?
"I am thinking about swimming up to the boat, but I do not want to be apart from you all. But maybe it is worth it to check out the underside of the boat. Maybe there is a clue below the waterline. Undead do not breathe -- maybe they are underwater."
"By the way, who is coming? Who is stealthy and quiet enough?
Dietrich Thursday September 14th, 2006 8:43:35 AM
OOC: We´ll have to work out the details of those contacts later, as, the way things happened, everything was kept pretty general. It were common people that engaged against the Prince´s men and Dietrich has had some personal contact with them, but always only in general terms.
At Olyn´s question, DIetrich repeats the possibility mentioned by Berlon some time ago, about having two Gods put against one. And his own thought of the possibility of making services to a good God and this entity "negotiate" with Marteus, maybe an exchange of prisoners or something of the kind.
Above ground, Dietrich enjoys the heavy weather. He likes strong winds, as it reminds him of his paternal Windbourne Hills. The knight is worried that the party couldn´t get any hint of information about what awaits them, besides that there may be undead.
He isn´t stealthy at all and will stay on the boat, possibly together with Champ. But he says: "After your first explorations, come back to call me! (touching the sword) This baby here should be of use."
Berlon Thursday September 14th, 2006 10:46:59 AM
"Don't worry, Dietrich, the matter of Jack has not been forgotten. As far as I'm concerned we still have two options ahead of us..." his voice gets lower as it starts to trail off.
"But first, let us deal with the matter at hand."
"Vauhwyt, the Quaal's Token isn't invisible, but it is much less likely to send us to a watery grave than a regular rowboat is."
"Also, there is Normal Stealth, and there is Undead Stealth. Olyn and myself should be on point for this mission, enhanced by whatever arcane stealth the rest can provide, mostly for, in the unlikely event, the scenario that there are non-undead on the ship, such as the previously mentioned theory of elves in rubber masks."
Rose Thursday September 14th, 2006 1:14:11 PM "I think splitting up would be one of the worst things to do. Even if someone goes ahead to scout how will those left behind know if they need help or not? We should all try to go." Rose says as she looks at the ship.
Olyn Thursday September 14th, 2006 2:11:32 PM
First and foremost, like Berlon says, we need to determine if these beings really are undead and if so, I can make it where we are all invisible to them. If they are alive, lets just destroy the ship and pick off those who don't drown. And rescue anyone they have captured already. Second, if they are undead and we are invisible to them we need to search around for a way to destroy them in the least amount of actions. And thirdly, I agree with Rose. Everytime we have split up something bad befalls us. For once let us stick together and for the gods' sake inform the group before you do something so we can prepare to react to it.
Vauwyt and Mookie Thursday September 14th, 2006 6:38:00 PM
"Ok!" says Vauhwyt, "This is what I'm hearing:"
"One, we need to know morre. Two, don't split up the party. Three, when we know morre, we'll know what to do."
"So how does this sound -- everybody goes in the magic feather boat to the ship. If we are lucky, we'll be hidden by mist and Darkness, so they won;t detect our approach."
"Then, a few of us will go aboard and scout around -- just for a little bit, and just to find out morre. Then we report back."
"I'm thinking that with my Message magic, the people on the feather boat can be told everythign that goes on in real time by the scouts as they scout."
"Sound like a plan?"
"I'll be one of the initial scouts. Who else is with me?"
Vorelle Thursday September 14th, 2006 7:47:27 PM
"It's a g-g-good p-plan," Vorelle says to Vauhwyt. "I-I c-c-can h-help sc-scout."
Theodore & Macaw Thursday September 14th, 2006 10:00:30 PM
Theodore hides from the rain beneath his hood. Listening to his friends discussing their options, he offers his own. "I too think we should all go to the ship. I have couple of spells that could get us on the ship quickly if we need to."
He peers thoughtfully at the ship out in the distance. The many stories of the Ghost Ship's legacy come back to him. He smiles as a shiver runs up his spine. "It looks as if we're about to step into a children's tale, friends."

Oni Highlight to display spoiler: {You felt a mental tugging that lead you to the harbor of Dirt City earlier today. There you came across four hardy young men; Sharif Thorir, Arngrim, and Leo. The four men smile at you calmly as they prepare a small boat. It seems they are feeling the same pull.
After half an hour of sea travel, you find yourself at the ship. A rope ladder is lowered from the deck and the five of you clamber aboard.
Standing on the deck is the apparition of captain. He flickers in and out of sight, his nappy, ghostly beard swaying gently in the violent wind.
"Arr, me hearties! Thanks be ta ye fer heedin' me call. Me lass needs savin' and yer the souls ta be helpin' me. Arr!"
The four younglings you came with give each other glances before smiling. Adventure! That's what these men came for, and it seems they'll get their chance to shine.
You feel the familiar surge of adrenaline wash over you as you stand before the Captain.}
Everyone else Highlight to display spoiler: {Standing at the water's edge, options are bandied about. Berlon reveals that he has the ability to summon a magical boat, which might be more reliable than the row boat on loan from the Merchants, which is tethered a few feet from your location. By row boat or magical boat, you figure it would take you about half an hour to reach the ship.
Berlon and Olyn both agree on putting the clerics up front.
Olyn and Rose think they shouldn't split up. Vauhwyt, Vorelle, and Dietrich are proponents of sending up a scouting mission first.
Time passes slowly. The shadow in the distance remains motionless. The rain falls heavy, and the wind blows strong.}
Vauhwyt and Mookie Friday September 15th, 2006 6:08:39 AM
"Well friends, let's get this show on the road. Good Berlon, how's about calling forth this magic boat?"
About 15 minutes our from the boat, Vauhwyt will cast her darkness spell (from a scroll).
About 10 minutes out from the boat, Vauwhyt will begin casting other spells, starting with Alter Self. She is careful to take off certain items first, though, not wanting them to disappear when she changes shape.
Dietrich d20+7=8 Friday September 15th, 2006 8:20:09 AM
Dietrich likes Vauhwyt´s plan, as long as the scouting party returns quickly. Like Olyn and Rose, Dietrich is wary of splitting up the party, but having a quick reconnaiscence sounds good and he woudn´t be of any help in that.
Should there be a way of getting everyone in the party stealthy, Dietrich would vote for all to go together.
When the magic boat is ready, the knight makes a prayer to Domi and enters. HE also gives his hand to Champ to sniff and trys to make acquaintancy with the dog. (handle animal 8, nat 1 not a good start)
Olyn Friday September 15th, 2006 10:07:25 AM
Steps on board the boat once it appears and sits securely near the front.
Makes sure the scrolls of Invisibility to Undead are at the ready reach and hands another one to Berlon.
Says a quick prayer to Wardd and then makes sure his crossbow is cocked.

Theodore & Macaw Friday September 15th, 2006 10:55:09 PM
Theodore is waiting patiently on Berlon to produce the magical boat when a thought occurs to him. "You know, we have two boats. Why not take them both in case something happens to the other. As a safety precaution, so to speak. It also provides more options should the need arise. You never know what's going to happen."
Vauhwyt and Mookie Friday September 15th, 2006 11:03:16 PM
Vauhwyt thinks Theo has a point, provided that someone among the party has a modicum of skill in handling watercraft. But if the skills of a sailor are foreign to all, then better, maybe, just to take the magic boat that will steer for them.
DM Shegger Friday September 15th, 2006 11:05:41 PM
Oni Highlight to display spoiler: {The ship is large. "Tis a longship, matey," offers the ghostly captain. His eye follows you as you appraise his ship. "A beauty, isn't she? She be named Odinjar Dreki. There once was a time that name was feared all along this here coast." He chuckles to himself, lost in a memory so distant it becomes history.
As you walk the ship, you note that it is quite long, seventy-five feet, to be exact. A single mast shoots from the deck, a black sail stands silent atop it. A ballista is mounted facing the bow. It looks to be in need of serious repair, however. There's no way it could be used in its current state.
Your four companions also turn an appraising eye on the ship, though not so detailed as yourself, before deciding to toss their things below decks and settle in for the trip.}
Everyone else Highlight to display spoiler: {More plans are detailed, and several of the heroes think ahead to their exact actions as they head toward the ship. Unfortunately, it seems Berlon is a might sluggish with producing his magical boat. Perhaps a little prodding is in order?
Theodore suggests taking both boats, a task that would indeed be possible to manage with seven people. The question remains how wise that would be. Then again, it seems there are too many questions and way too little answers.
But hey, that's the life of an adventurer!
In the meantime, you're not getting any drier or warmer. The weather shows no sign of slackening so it's now or never.}
Berlon Saturday September 16th, 2006 10:52:38 AM
"Well, one way or another, I think we need to make sure nothing happens to the boat the Merchants "loaned" us. It's not that I don't trust them, it's just that the contract specifically says the boat must be returned."
With that the gnome reaches into his pocket and pulls out a feather. He raises it into the air, and after a quick flash of light a very large boat in the shape of a swan appears.
Quaal's Feather Token, Swan Boat - can hold up to 32 medium characters, moves 60', lasts 1 day
Rose Saturday September 16th, 2006 12:26:13 PM "Look around, there's nobody out to take or damage the boat everyone is hiding from the ghost ship." Rose will get into the swanboat last as with Vauhwyt taking up alot of room in the boat Rose may end up sitting on someones lap. Rose will drink some tea and water so she wont be thirsty on the ship.
Theodore & Macaw Sunday September 17th, 2006 11:09:06 AM
Theodore shrugs. "Okay, I was just offering up another possibility."
As Theodore moves to board Berlon's boat, he steps on the hem of his too long pants and tumbles to the wet ground in a heap. He lets out a violent curse in the nature of Dietrich before standing back to his feet, a nasty look etched across his face. He tries to wipe off the dirt now on his clothes, but it's no use. The rain has made it mud.
Looking up to his friends, he suddenly realizes the terrible oath he just uttered and quickly brings his hand to his mouth, blushing deeply.
"Ooh, sorry," he mutters, quickly hitching up his pants and stepping onto the boat.
Rose Sunday September 17th, 2006 2:15:45 PM "Roll up the hems of those pants Theo." Rose whispers as she rummages in her bag of holding, pulls out her sewing set and hands him a few pins (up to dm if they are straight pins or saftey pins because I'm not sure if saftey pins were invented.)
"It's your own fault you know you should have had me hem them up it only would have taken 10 minutes or so."
Vorelle and Champ d20+4=20 Sunday September 17th, 2006 4:39:33 PM
"Ch-Ch-Champ," Vorelle says, leading her dog to the rowboat the Merchant's Guild lent the group. "G-guard. G-guard. G-good dog."
[Handle Animal 20]
She then steps gingerly into the magic boat. She isn't sure whether being magic makes it better or worse than a regular boat. It's still a boat, after all. She clings to the sides and hopes they reach their destination safely.
Dietrich Monday September 18th, 2006 8:23:00 AM
Dietrich listens to the idea of having a second boat. If it could be hidden and handled, it surely would be a good thing. It could be towed to the magic boat, so handling would be easier.
Behind the heavy steel helmet, the knight smiles at Theo´s swearing, and he thinks: "It´s time to take the boy with me to the fun parts of the City."
Dietrich continues smiling at Rose´s comment. His rough marching boots are full of mud already, and this will be the least of their problems... In the best case, this set of clothes will be totally destroyed, by blood and foul flesh. "Such is life"
