Survival of the Fittest

DM Bob & Carla
Friday August 25th, 2006 7:57:58 AM

Aaaahoooo! Aaaahoooo! Aaaahoooo! The now familiar sound of the horn bays across the island, and the Chosen of Domi know the hunters have been set upon them. The position of the sun and the blue colour of the sky confirm the newness of the day, and yet the mists and dews of earliest morning have been burnt off.

Gecktar, Toros, Winterglade, Rock, Zeoll, and Flat-Top, roll Spot and Listen checks, please! Also, please post AC and HP.

At the mansion...

Brahmah summons his large golden eagle, and asks the bird to carry a message to the Chosen. After swooping across the grounds, the creature lifts off into the air...drawing the attention of the gardeners. Brahmah sees one of them run off, while the other one picks up a gardening tool and climbs slowly towards the manor. He squints, peering into the shadows trying to discern who and what is there. (OOC: I'm assuming Brahmah is at an open window, but unsure if he is inside the manor, or outside. Please clarify.-DM Carla)

Brahmah (hps 93, AC 22)  d20-1=17
Friday August 25th, 2006 11:22:59 AM

The minotaur has stepped out of the manor window at this point. He is clearly visible, weapons still in hand. If he needs to, he will jump or drop whatever distance to the ground.
He notices one begin to run and he casts Entangle from his tattoo hoping to catch the one fleeing.

He smiles, moving toward the gardener(s) and sinisterly licks some blood from his forearm that is bleeding freely. (Intimidate 17)

As before, he will not be concerned about keeping the garden pristine, trampling what he can.

(Are the gardeners human, orc,other?)

Rock
Friday August 25th, 2006 3:50:36 PM

As if he heard neither Winterglade nor the horns, Rock concentrates on studying his books, laying out odd objects in small piles around him. Here there is a sleek black feather and a ball of wool, there a bit of pitch and a vial of a clear liquid.

Winterglade AC21 HP51(51)  d20+4=16 d20+4=20

[Listen 16, Spot 20]

"Rock, we are going to have a company soon."

Winterglade makes sure his shield is fastened to his arm and that the party's wands of healing are in his pocket, ready to be drawn when needed. His mind drifts briefly to others, wondering if they have any healing devices left. In retrospect, giving healing wands to your cleric was putting all your eggs in one basket.

"Yeah Gecktar, we had better prepare for the hunt. How about using this building we get out for our defensive higher ground... But then it would limit our movement....?

Do you have any scrolls that can help us move in the air or water? This could give us a good advantage. Otherwise, lets strengthen our defenses with our magic first.

We are similar in our abilities I guess, both of us can fight and heal - of course in our own style...

I wonder how the others are..."

Ready for any surprise, Toros searches the surroundings (5, 1: d20 spot and listen checks +5 (+7 for monstrous humanoid)). Realizing his mind is too busy to focus, he tries to help Gecktar with his eyes and ears (7 for Aid Another without bonus)

Paw'caw climbs on beating wings until he is able to find a weak thermal to carry him aloft. The earliness of the day makes for slow progress as the cool air has had little time to absorb the heat of the sun and begin to rise. From his current position, the eagle can only see the top of the jungle and the opening in which the mansion is situated.

At the mansion...
Brahmah activates his tattoo and the vegetation around the fleeing gardener comes to life, writhing and grasping at the half-orc's legs. Dr. Mauroth's employee manages to avoid the clasping weeds and picks his way through the area. [ Reflex=16] The second gardener is sure to be less lucky. Dressed in simple work attire and armed only with a scythe he assumes a defensive posture and awaits the minotaurs attack [OOC 50' of lawn separate the two potential combatants, while the fleeing half-orc is 80' away]

On the beach...
Toros struggles to still his mind now that the hunt is started, he scans his surroundings but is too distracted by his thoughts to notice much of substance [OOC need to roll a min of 10 to aid another, not sure how that would work for a listen check].

Gecktar shares his prepared spells with Toros and asks the wemic about his own strengths in combat as they make their way south down the beach. As they pass a small cove Gecktar notices a fog blow in from the water's edge. It's misty damp air hangs low over the beach in front of them.

In the jungle...
Rock sits on the damp cool earth and lays out his books and components, but there is little time for studying spells. Less than a minute has passed since the voice told them of their test and the final baying of the horns. The taur realizes that it is highly unlikely he will be able to refresh his spells in the time remaining. Winterglade readies his shield and tries to hurry his friend along. He scans his surroundings but the jungle vegetation is dense and between the dappled light and shadows and the impeding vegetation he neither hears nor sees anything of immediate danger.

On the grassland...
Zeoll runs headlong for the jungle, but it is a long way off and barely a deep shadow in the distance. It is down hill which should make the long run easier, but it remains a very long way. The wemic sees no tracks or trails through the grass as he moves. Flat-top follows Zeoll as the cat darts in and out of view, blending almost perfectly with the grasses. The silence of the windy plain is broken by a shrieking call and as the two look upward they see what appears to be a large winged horse approaching from above. The sun is behind it, making it hard to see and obscuring any further details.

Gecktar (AC 19 HP61)
Monday August 28th, 2006 3:50:28 AM

Gecktar stops his progession "Look !" he says to Toros pointing the fog with his finger.

"We should come close and see if our friends are around..."

Winterglade AC21 HP51(51)
Monday August 28th, 2006 5:23:01 AM

Winterglade nervously looks around. He is no longer sure if moving about is a good idea - indeed, if it is going to make any difference.

"Rock, maybe we should find a spot to hide in. No reason to make it easier for them to find us than it has to be."

Rock
Monday August 28th, 2006 11:59:15 AM

Rock growls and climbs to his feet, slamming the book.

"GRRAAH! Not enough time! The spells I have prepared are all but useless! You claim to not be able to fight, I've got little chance against the two of them... They claim to want a challenge and yet I have no time to prepare! And yet..."

The big minotaur puts a hand to his long snout, rubbing the bottom of it with a large thumb.

"Perhaps that is just it. Perhaps we do not fight. We take from them whatever satisfaction they may have in our pursuit. What do you think Winterglade?"

Brahmah  d20-1=10 d20-4=-2
Monday August 28th, 2006 1:50:49 PM

Brahmah looks at the fleeing gardener and then back at the trapped orc. "I will not kill you if you do not attack." He says simply. (I'm assuming one is trapped and one is not?)
"If I wanted you dead, you would be already. Truth is, I just want the Doctor and his goon Stevens. They have no honor and if you tell me where the captives are kept and what those horns were earlier, I promise on MY HONOR that I will free you and let you both live."

He casually rests his swords on his shoulders. "I would also like an honest friend on this island, who knows the trails and such."

(Intimidation 10, Diplomacy -2) Brahmah doesn't believe negotiations will go well. But since the gardeners only have spades and hoes to fight with, he thinks they might be at a stalemate. Oops, there's a pitchfork... and sickle. "Sooo...., uh, what will it be?"

Brahmah
Monday August 28th, 2006 1:52:03 PM

OOC: If Pah'caw sees nothing in a few minutes, she would return to Brahmah.

Zeoll  d20+9=18 d20+17=20 d20+17=32
Monday August 28th, 2006 9:40:49 PM

Zeoll stands slightly baffled! If he knew how far it was to the rocks, he might suggest sprinting there and using them for cover. If he knew how far the jungle was, he could guess how many rounds of running it would take to get there. If he knew how far away the winged horse and rider were, he could consider using his bardic fascinate on them.

He says to Flat-top, his comrade in arms lo these many years: "Old frriend, do not attack yet!"

"I will trry to distrract them while you get underr coverr. Sprrint forr those rrocks! Use them forr prrotection!"

"And while I distract them, activate potions or tattoos or whatever defenses you have. Just don't fight yet!"

Zeoll squints and tries to see the rider (Spot 18). If he can see the rider, and if the rider is within 90 feet, then Zeoll will take out his drum (move action) and sing a fascinating song (standard action).

If he sees the rider but the rider is more than 90 feet away, then he gets out his drum and readies a fascinate attempt to start as soon as they are in range.

If he can't see the rider, then he tells Flat-top to run for the rocks. Then Zeoll dashes directly toward and maybe even under the rider. In this way he hopes to put the sun at his back and to see the rider.

In any event, the fascinate DC is Zeoll's perform roll, which is a 20. Actually, I'll take a hero point reroll on that and try again ... a 32. Much better.

Since the fascinate can affect two beings, Zeoll will target both rider and mount.

On the plains...
Zeoll squints into the sun and sees that it is not truly a horse, for it has long talons and a sharp beak. It bears a single rider. A second dark silhouette emerges from the sun just behind it. Flat-top sees all of this and prepares himself for battle. The rock outcrop is only 50' away and the first of the hunters closes rapidly. The wemic considers using his rythmic drumming to fascinate the beast and it's passenger but sees Flat-top raise his weapon and shield in readiness for battle and thinks the better of it. [OOC the rider and his mount are in a downward dive and would not in my judgement be subject to being fascinated as the threat of diving into the ground would keep them plenty distracted - keep your hero point]. The wemic tries to dart beneath the hippogriff and it's rider as it swoops down.

The second hippogriff veers towards the centaur and from 15 feet away the rider brings a slender pipe to his mouth. Flat-top feels a stinging sensation from his flank as a small dart penetrates his hide. A second dart burrows into his thick neck. [Hit AC=29 and 26 for a total of 6 HP. Flat-top must make two will saves vs DC 15 or be slowed for 6+4 rounds]

The first hippogriff and rider swing to Zeolls left and two darts slam into the bard in quick succession [Hit AC=16 and 18 for a total of 7 HP; Zeoll needs to make two will saves vs DC 15 or be slowed for 5+4 rounds]

On the beach...
Gecktar and Toros approach the thickening fog and the Minotaur wonders aloud what may lurk within. Toros keeps his thoughts to himself. The fog seems to be creeping towards the two taurs and it's outer edge is within 10 feet.

In the jungle...
Rock slams his books closed in frustration and grumbles about the unfairness of it all. He ponders a more pacifist course of action and wonders if this might be a way out. Winterglade looks about, his eyes darting from bush to bush without taking anything in [OOC you need to roll spot and listen checks if you hope to find anything!!]

At the mansion...
Brahmah can't quite decide what to do. His entangle spell only managed to slow down the fleeing gardener who even now picks his way to freedom. The second gardener was outside the entangling vegetation from the beginning and now confronts the minotaur with his scythe. Brahmah tries to intimidate him first, but that only draws a cold stare as the half-orc tightens his grip on the scythe. Brahmah switches to a friendlier tone and tries to persuade his opponent that surrender is the wiser choice. The half-orc spits on the ground. "The Dr. will finish you, you have my word!" he growls.

Gecktar
Tuesday August 29th, 2006 3:02:38 AM

"Back Toros !" mutters Gecktar "this cloud isn't natural... Something should be lurking in it or this is maybe a noxious cloud".

Gecktar take the arm of his friend and draws him on the side of the cloud keeping a sufficient place to no make contact with it.

He then prays Domi so some strength of his God will flow in him.

(OOC move in a quarter circle around the cloud staying away from it, casts bull strength)

Active spell :

Winterglade  d20+4=12 d20+4=9
Tuesday August 29th, 2006 3:04:09 AM

[Listen 12, Spot 9]

"Go with dignity, yes? Winterglade understands, but this would be the last resort. You mentioned you can make us fly, this should allow us to outrun them at least once. As long as your magic lasts we should try to find either other Chosen or an inaccessible place that would be easy to defend. There, maybe, you could swap at least part of your spells. In the meantime, let's look for some cover; no point standing out here, inviting an arrow from a hidden foe."

Winterglade looks for a place that would provide cover or concealment, or, ideally, both.

Then Zeoll casts Obscuring Mist to conceal them from their attackers.

Toros watches and follows his friend's movements first closer than away from the fog. Maintaining his distance Toros gets his bag of tricks and rolls it just to the front of Gecktar and himself - to stay between the fog and themselves. The bag mutates and becomes a black bear (d100, 98, bag of trick-rust), ready to defend the taurs against any hostile attack.

Brahmah AC 26, hps 38/93 (total defense)
Tuesday August 29th, 2006 10:41:18 AM

"Your Doctor is dead, he just doesn't know it yet. What he doesn't realize is that if his 'servants' and captives stand up against him, he has no chance.
I will not lay a hand on you if you wish to be free of the Doctor. I am Brahmah." The minotaur nods in greeting to the gardener; he would extend a hand in greeting, but he's holding weapons. :) "If it is in my power, I'll take you and your friends with us." He gestures to the struggling orc. "That spell was NOT to hold against your will, but for me to have time to say my peace." He indicates the Entangle.

(Brahmah is in total defense)

On the beach...

Gectar warns his comrade about the fog bank and does his best to skirt the mist, leading Toros out of harms way. The wemic follows Gecktar's lead and spills a black bear from his bag of tricks.

From out of the fog bank emerges the head of a trident, followed by the shaft, and then by the teh arm and body of a vaguely humanoid creature. Standing on two webbed feet, it's skin tinged a bluish color it calls in a series of clicks and whistles. From somewhere within the fogbank it's call is answered. The creature appears strong and well muscled, a sagittal crest runs down it's back from the top of it's head and extends to teh small of it's back. Three large spines protrude from the crest. With a single smooth, rapid motion it casts a large net at Gecktar, enveloping the centaur in it's webbing. [Hit touch AC of 21, Gecktar is entangled, -2 to attacks, -4 dexterity - see pg 119 in PHB]. The creature begins to pull the taur into the fog bank [Opposed Strength Check of 36]

In the jungle...

Winterglade searches for a spot to hide and discusses the merits of fleeing versus fighting. Rock seems to agree. The centaur spots a large crack in a rock wall some 50' away. It looks like it might fit someone his size. There is no way to know how deep it may penetrate the rock without examining it closer. Other than that, the only hiding places nearby are the dense understory and large tree trunks that characterize the jungle in general. A fluttering sound disturbs the stillness and a raven glides in to perch on a limb above their heads.

On the plains...

Zeoll shakes off the effect of the darts and casts obscuring mist on himself to provide some concealment. Flat-top manages to fight off any of the effects as well and nimbly (nimble for a centaur at least) rolls beneath the hippogriff, his equine legs kicking madly in the air as he completes the manouver. It pays off as he connects solidly with his morningstar. The hippogriff lets out a large grunt, flaps it's powerful wings once and falls heavily from the sky, skidding awkewardly on it's neck and chest as it plows a distinct furrow through the grass. It's rider leaps from it's now dead mount and tumbles into the grass some 30' away and dissappears from view. The second hippogriff and rider immediately wheel in the air and swoop down on the prone centaur. Two more darts whistle down at Flat-top. The first strikes the centaur [Hit AC 25 for 3 HP; Will save vs DC 15 or be slowed for 4 rounds]. The second strikes harmlessly in the earth beside the taur.

At the mansion...

The unlikely stand-off between the captain of The Chosen and the doctor's gardener continues. Brahmah speaks his message of peace, but his earlier actions, gruff voice, and weapons speak a different story. It is quite apparent that the gardener does not believe him. The half-orc backs up two steps and maintains his defensive posture, his face is set in grim determination.

Elsewhere...

Finally climbing high above the island, Brahmah's eagle can see across the expanse of jungle to the beach and grasslands to the west and north. Paw'cah can make out the dark spots of the two hippogriffs in the air, although not enough detail to identify what exactly they are. There is also movement on the beach. Both of these discoveries are relayed back to Brahmah.

Zeoll takes a five foot step (still in the mist) and then, hand on rod, begins casting Summon Nature's Ally II [over Gust of Wind]. Since he is metamagicking the spell to last twice as long, it takes two full rounds to cast. When the two rounds are over, he will call a Dire Bat to help in the fight.

Gecktar (AC 17 HP 61)  d20+11=17 d20+5=24
Wednesday August 30th, 2006 11:24:12 AM

Gecktar is surprised by the maneuver of the creature and covered buy the net then is pulled into the fog without any chance to resist.
They have to clearly see their adversaries to get any chance to confront them so while threathened like this he tries to dispel the magic that should go on int the fog

barely pass the DC15 concentration check for being entangled with a roll of 17
area dispel check of 24

OOC: is this a large creature ? if no, the max range of the net is 10ft and the reach of Gecktar is also 10ft. He shouldn't he have had an AoO as the creature clearly entered his reach ?
OOC: they are several to get such strength bonus I hope... This lead into the 50 for a +19.

Toros - OOC
Wednesday August 30th, 2006 11:44:14 AM

I also have meant to make the black bear attack any opponents as soon as they become hostile against Toros or Gecktar just like a readied action. Couldn't you also consider the black bear's action into account, before the opponents' action!?

Brahmah
Wednesday August 30th, 2006 12:34:56 PM

The minotaur tries to talk sense to the orc. Sheathing his swords, Brahmah continues.
"Okay, look. Your doctor captured my friends. I saw not among them when they were taken and now I need to find them. You doctor did this to me when I met him. We fought. He was wounded as well, but survives. I am wounded as well."

He then gets the sense from Pah'caw. He relays his current position and situation to her.

Flat-top (AC 24 86/95 HP)  d20+4=13
Wednesday August 30th, 2006 4:09:39 PM

Flat-top quickly gets onto his hooves, But unfotunetly for this center he gets hit with darts, "OCHIE! Zeoll I just got hit, I'll try to do my best!"

Now Flat-top has to make a fast decision, Which one is the most dangerest??, The other one with the blow gun! So with the beast dead,Flat-top will attack the dead hippogriff's rider. But First he'' change weapon from the Morningstar to his +2 bastard Sword.

Slowly he advances on the dazed rider.

Failed Will check 13.

Winterglade  d20+4=15 d20+4=8
Thursday August 31st, 2006 3:10:46 AM

[Listen 15, Spot 8]

Winterglade switches from Common to Tauric and points to the raven. "That your bird, Rock? If not, we are probably going to have a fight with a spellcaster. Watch it, raven familiars understand speech."

The centaur glances over the entrance to the cavern once and dismisses the idea of going inside. If there is no other exit then the place could easily turn into a death trap. So Winterglade leads both of them through the jungle, changing the direction of march every now and then, trying to make it difficult to ambush them. Every once in a while he glances back to see if the raven is following them.

On the plains...

Zeoll remains hidden in the mist and only his chanting gives away his position as he continues to cast his spell. The second hippogriff alights some 40 feet away from the two taurs and it's rider nimbly dismounts and vanishes among the grasses. Flat-top is unable to fight off the effects of the last dart and can only manage to switch weapons and move towards the location where the first hippogriff lies dead, it's rider alive but unseen...and then the rider is upon the centaur, scimitars flashing in the sun. The hunter strikes out at the centaur, slashing him deeply across the haunch [Hit AC=34 confirmed critical for 6+10 HP]

In the Jungle...

Winterglade considers his options and chooses to foregoe the crack in the rocks in favour of mobility. He notes the arrival of the raven and exercises caution but it soon becomes clear that the Raven is indeed Mandragora when it hops from it's perch and alights on the Minotaur. The centaur leads his small party through the jungle, changing course as often as possible. After several minutes he reaches an area bounded by a marsh to his right and a stony outcrop to his left, a narrow game trail skirts the marshy area at the base of the outcrop for approximately 100 feet before emerging back out into the relative openness of the jungle.

On the beach...

Gecktar is dragged into the enveloping mist and towards the water, his cloven feet looking for purchase in the wet sand. Unable to resist the pull of his aggressor, he casts a spell and the mist dissipates revealing a second foe also armed with trident and net. Each of the creatures appears to be wearing some kind of armor made from the shell of a sea turtle. The creature controlling the net continues to pull the minotaur towards the water's edge [Opposed STR check =16]

The second of the two hunters attacks the bear, stabbing at it with his trident [Hit AC=25 for 13HP]

[OOC If the bear was holding an action you needed to roll an attack and damage, otherwise it will slow the pace of the combat to a stand still. Gecktar did not get an attack of opportunity because the creature is large and therefore it was a ranged touch attack. I must apologize however for rolling the wrong strength check (I used his strength score (19) instead of the bonus (+4) so the roll should have been a 21 which still beats Gecktar's 17. Sorry for the confusion].

At the Mansion...

Brahmah tries in vain to convince the half-orc of his good intent. Swords sheathed he exhibits his wounds. The half-orc backs further away from the minotaur and then suddenly turns and runs away from both Brahmah and the writhing vegetation.

Toros  d20=16
Thursday August 31st, 2006 8:02:59 AM

While he waits what his black bear will have done Toros gets an enlarge person scroll and casts on Gecktar. The huge centaur should be much harder to be pulled and hopefully he can break free from the net.

(What do we need to tear the net?)

While he hopes Gecktar can break free from the net Toros carefully calculates the other strange humanoid opponent (d20, 16), maintaining his distance with him.

(The black bear should have been attacking one of the opponents already. Probably that humanoid as the target. Please role-play the bear in the way you think appropriate)

The attacks of the black bear end with wounds on its side rather than its opponent. To save itself, it stays in full defense, while keeping its opponent busy.

(Sorry I became late for my post, as I was waiting your reply to the questions of Gektar and mine. If you could please consider my above post still valid for the previous round, here is my post for this round:)

Seeing the opponents clearly, Toros gets his magic missile wand to activate and five magic missiles hit the hunter that is trying to pull Gecktar (20 hp damage).

"Whatever dude! Your loss." The minotaur shrugs, then winces. "oW!" The gash on his arm won't stop bleeding.

He looks for his eagle, then retreats back to the dark room. That is the only decent cover by morning light and it is also where he told the Chosen to meet him, assuming they are even visible to Pah'caw. They might be underground, in a pit somewhere. Or even on racks being tortured. He thinks.

"Get a grip. What to do? Head to the jungle for cover or back to the beach where we crashed? Nah, the Doctor knows of the beach. Weren't there flats around here. Nope, thats in the open.
The jungle it is."

While in the room, he finds his bow and strings it and retrieves his quiver from the pack. "I hope I remember how to fire one."

He then takes out a scroll and casts the spell. (Pass without Trace)

Then he drinks two potions of CLW on his way to the jungle. (heals 13)

(OOC: These actions will take about 4 rounds.)

Winterglade is relieved to learn that the raven is, in fact, Rock's familiar. It would be very disadvantageous to have an aerial spy follow them around. The presence of Mandragora and the sudden appearance of the path gives him an idea.

"Well, since we have not been immediately attacked, there is no point in wandering the jungle at random, we are only losing energy. Would your bird be able to spot an ambush if he saw it? If he scouted ahead we could move along this path in relative safety. He could even quickly check where the path is leading to and help us choose the direction of travel."

Winterglade, not being an arcanist, is not very confident with his knowledge of the nature of the link between a familiar and his master, so his questions are asked with a mixture of curiosity and hope.

At the Mansion...

Provided with an opportunity, the gardener runs for safety, or perhaps for help, and Brahmah retreats back into the mansion and the darkened room. After several minutes he finds his bow and downs some curative potions. The bleeding from his arm is staunched and he readies to leave for the Jungle. He looks again for his eagle, now a small dot high above. Perhaps the eagle can spot his comrades and lead him to them...

On the Beach...

An enlarged Gecktar surprises his enemy by advancing rather than pulling back, and lands a mighty blow with his hammer. Toros manages to fish out his wand and blasts Gecktar's tormentor with 5 balls of energy. The blue-skinned aquatic is clearly shaken by the blows and almost drops the net. He does not however forget the trident in his other hand and stabs out twice at the massive minotaur. The first jab strikes Gecktar [Hit AC=27 for 16 HP] but the second glances of the fighter's armor.

The second aquatic continues to attack the bear, netting it first and then stabbing with his trident. [Hit AC 19 with Net, Hit AC=21 for 13 HP with trident]. If the bear still survives, He tries to control the netted bear at the end of the rope [Opposed STR= 10][OOC bear has taken 26 HP damage in Total]

In the Jungle...

Faced with a narrow travel corridor, Winterglade suggests sending the raven ahead to scout for danger. The bird takes wing and moves ahead of the twosome, looking for...well looking for things out of place.

Rock follows the centaur, unsure of himself and his own abilities in this foreign environment. The centaur seems to be the only one with his wits about him and scans his surroundings with all his senses.[OOC Rock should make spot and listen checks for the raven and himself, otherwise he will be prone to surprise and the scouting raven will be of little use]. The centaur sees nothing but does notice that the normal background noise of the jungle seems eerily absent, as if someone had dropped a blanket over the area.

[Please identify if the party is moving forward, or standing still]

On the Plains...

Flat-top spins on the grass hunter that attacked him and slashes across it's arm. Blood flies from the wound as the blade slices deep. [OOC Flat-top gets only one standard action so hits only once]. The wounded hunter tumbles nimbly to one side and strikes again at the centaur with his scimitar. It is only then that the second rider slips out of the tall grass and into the area trampled by the fighting. He looks a bit like an elf, lithe and supple in his movements, but darker of skin and small scaly patches adorn his cheeks. He draws a scimitar as he approaches and once in a flanking position he attacks Flat-top as well. Both hunters find their mark and leave bleeding wounds on the centaurs flanks [Hit AC=30 and 27 for 6+6 damage]. Slowly but surely they appear to be wearing the centaur down.

Zeoll completes his spell from somewhere within the mist. He remains unseen to his foes, as they remain unseen to him.

[OOC summoned creature will appear and can act starting next round]

The poor bear cannot stand the attacks of its opponent and falls on the ground inside the net. However, Toros's attention is on the one that attacks Gecktar, and the wemic strikes him with magic missiles one more time. (17 hps force damage). Then the wemic retrieves another scroll from his pocket, ready at hand to be used (for next round action). Finally Toros steps 5 ft to position closer to Gecktar and face the first hunter, when he is done with the bear.

Zeoll directs the dire bat to fly in that direction and attack the most wounded enemy. Then he moves to the edge of the mist -- still five feet in and out of sight -- and sings an inspiring song (Inspire Courage).

The bat charges up to 80 feet and attacks! If she has a choice she attacks the most wounded enemy. Otherwise she charges whichever is in the straight line required for her charge. With any luck, she will be flanking a foe that Flat-top is fighting. With the +2 charge bonus and the +1 inspire courage bonus, the bat hits AC28 (30 if flanking), a critical threat that actually does crit vs AC16 (18 if flanking). Damage is 8 or 17 if the attack is a crit.

On the beach...

Despite the demise of the summoned bear, Toros maintains his focus on the creature attacking Gecktar. A series of magic missiles slam into the aquatic hunter, sending him staggering back into the water. The ensnared Gecktar again moves forward and slams his hammer down onto his beleaguered foe. The blue-skinned creature drops the rope and stabs at Gecktar with his trident, impaling the Minotaur yet again. [Hit AC 18 and 24 for 14 and 13 HP].

The second of the two aquatics makes a sharp downward thrust with his webbed hand, out towards the open sea. The water at Gecktar's feet is suddenly sucked out in a strong rip tide. The wet sand is dragged along with the water in a long tongue nearly 70 feet long and 30 feet wide. [Gecktar need to make a reflex save vs DC 15 to avoid losing footing and being sucked out towards the open water where he must also make a swim check vs DC 15 to avoid being dragged under by the strong undertow]

On the plains...

Zeoll summons the bat which flies directly towards the two creatures attacking the centaur. Unable to either understand or distinguish which of the two aggressors is most wounded it attacks the closer of the two, biting it fiercely on the shoulder.

The creature strikes back, slashing at the bat and hitting it twice with it's scimitars [Hit AC=24 and AC=31 for 8+8 HP].

Flat-Top does his best to defend himself and activates a healing tattoo. [OOC I don't know what 'fending off an attack is -- please provide a reference in PHB, also Flat-top was still slowed , hence could only make a single standard action. If fending off an attack is the same as fighting defensively, then Flat-top cannot also activate the tattoo.]

The second rider continues to attack Flat-top, slashing at the centaurs exposed legs [Hit AC=30 and AC=34 critical not confirmed for 11 +6 HP].

The first rider then whistles loudly and points his Hippogriff towards the cloud of mist and the singing. With a single powerful flap of it's wings it drags itself into the air and towards Zeoll.

In the jungle...

The raven flies along the edge of the rocky outcropping, scanning to either side for danger. It's keen eyes pick up something hidden in the rocks and immediately it tumbles and veers deeper into the canopy of the jungle. Rock immediately senses the danger and knows that Mandragora has indeed spotted a significant threat up ahead although he does not know specifically where.

Elsewhere on the island...

Pah'caw wheels high over the island searching for the Chosen. The eagle spots the activity on the beach and the plains, but nothing through the dense canopy of the jungle. Slowly it drifts north over the jungle and towards the activity on the plains.

Brahmah leaves the confines of the mansion and it's grounds for the jungle. He does his best to move in the direction of the eagle, but keeping the bird in site through the dense foliage is a challenge. [Please roll survival vs DC 15 to maintain direction and avoid typical jungle hazards]

Suddenly a volume of as much as 100 gallons of water is instantly transformed to nothingness, and a marble-sized pellet rests next to Gecktar.

"Hold on Gecktar!! Get that marble and get away!!" yells Toros, while taking one further step towards his friend and opponents.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Looking at Ceil's earlier posts vs her most recent one, I deduce that she did not include her Inspire Courage bonus. Ceil! You get an extra +1 to hit and +1 damage! On a crit, that damage multiplies, so I *think* Ceil's damage should be increased by two, right?

Zeoll stops singing, then takes a five foot step out of the mist. He sees the hippogriff coming for him. He calls the bat to come to him (free action). Then he casts Hideous Laughter on whichever of the two foes looks least wounded. (Save DC18). Finally, he takes out a potion of CMW (move action).

The bat uses the withdraw action to come close to Zeoll. That puts the bat in front, then Zeoll, then the mist. Maybe the hippogriff or other attackers will provoke an AoO from the Dire Bat in order to get to Zeoll. If so, the Dire Bat's AoO hits AC 21 for 12!

Somewhere on the island...

With acumen born of urgency, Brahmah makes his way through the jungle. He is unable to pick up the trail of any creature, but keeps his mind open to the images sent him by his familiar. The eagle is unable to detect any trace of taurs through the dense canopy of green foliage, but Brahmah does pick up the image of a flying black speck, veering down to disappear through the treetops after emitting an alarm call.

In the jungle...

Unwilling to draw blood, but equally unwilling to have his own blood shed, Winterglade lets Rock go before him. The cleric sees nothing in the shadowy green depths of the forest pressing up along the path, and crawling overtop the rocky outcropping. He hears nothing but the beating of his own heart in the eerie quiet after the alarm call from the minotaur's familiar.

On the beach...

Gecktar looses his footing, and is sucked 30 feet out into the ocean. Once again the clever wemic comes to his friend's aid, with an imaginative use of a gift won in a game of chance. Toros' magical dust absorbs a wedge of water and the minotaur thumps down on the wet sand. With only seconds before the water on either side comes crashing down on him, the prone minotaur must decide if he will try to stand up (in which case Gecktar make a Balance Check vs 15 to remain standing in the water) or grab the marble that now contains 100 gallons of water (in which case Gecktar make a Swim Check vs 15 to avoid going under the water.)

Further out in the water, the severely injured aquatic disappears under the surface (Spot vs DC 32 to locate) while his partner makes another aggressive gesture that sends a wave crashing towards Toros. (Toros make a Balance Check vs 15 to avoid being knocked down) The unharmed creature then advances towards Toros.

On the plains...

Zeoll steps out of the mist and into the view of the hippogriff. The winged creature streaks in at the wemic, narrowly avoiding a collision with the bat which was returning to the bard [rolled vs 50% chance of AoO]. The bat manages to bite the hippogriff on the way by but does not distract the creature from it's attack. It manages to rake the wemic with one claw as it flies in [Hit AC=17 for 7 HP]

Without the distraction of the bat, the two hunters, one of them severely wounded, focus their attention on the pie-bald fighter. Just as they are about to attack, the one that appears least injured to Zeoll falls to the ground in a fit of laughter. The second hunter presses forward and slices into the centaur again [Hit AC=26 for 9 HP]

Winterglade AC21 HP51(51)
Tuesday September 5th, 2006 6:12:30 AM

Winterglade makes sure the pair is moving away from danger, not towards it. No reason to move blindly into an ambush, especially since, with Mandragora on watch, the Taurs will probably get a chance to have the enemy described to them before they are seen themselves.

Rock

Rock sighs hopelessly and draws his Color Spray wand, hesitantly moving forward while trying to look both confident for the taur behind him and intimidating for whatever lies before him.

Flat-top (AC 24 -3/95 HP)
Tuesday September 5th, 2006 7:48:00 AM

Flat-top tried to fend off at least one of the attacks but THEM!! A great Pain shoot through him and every thing Goes black!!!
the only thing that is heard is Flat-tops last words "Help... Them... Domi....." then silence.

(OOC-Ceil Please repost - the earlier attacks were nullified by Zeoll's laughter spell which I forgot - You will have to postpone your death scene for a little while- evil DM)

Tuesday September 5th, 2006 10:53:23 AM

[Ceil! Add +1 to hit and damage from Inspire Courage!]

Zeoll takes a five foot step away from the hippogriff, so that he is out of its reach, and casts another Hideous Laughter on the other foe fighting Flat-top (Will Save 18).

Zeoll shouts, "Keep fighting, Flat-top! you're doing great!" He shouts to the hippogriff, "Go away! Fly away! Shoo!"

The bat strikes at the hippogriff. It hits AC15 for 10 damage. It also moves five feet so that it is close to Zeoll.

Hurrah! a natural 20 then a critical hit, and the damages is not bad either... Soory DM Bob & Carla, i don't under stand a word of what Cazel said, But Thank you Cayzle! for the reminder.

Flat-top does not want to use his hoover, these Emermy will slice his under belly. So he'll attack toe to toe.
Flat top swings with all his consentration and all his strenth he can muster. Attacking ugly face hit AC 34 critical hit plus a natural 20 and AC 33 another critical hit (Double damages). The damage was 20+13=33 hp of damages.

Flat-top will stand side ways to keep an eye on the both of the emermy. (With his shield ready to ward off sneek attacks.

OOC: Thank you Cayzle! you can bug the DM bob & Dm Carla on my behalf any time. I hope I can live long enough to give this Liontaur a big Kiss.

Many thanks for waiting, and sorry for being late, just busy....

Toros losts the fleeing creature in the waters (spot 13<32, DC)) and then a shaking wave tries to knock him down, but his four legs give him enough to stand (balance 22>15, DC). Then drawing his weapon (keen masterwork scimitar), the wemic springs from where he stands, attacks his opponent and retreats somewhere close to Gecktar. (Spring attack, 28 against AC, no critical confirmation? 12, damage 11)

While Toros springs back from his opponent, he tries to hide in the shadows (hide, 20, move silently 30), if any available.

OOC: I still think "Hide in Plain Sight" can be used, even if you attack to the observer of your hiding movement without a big penalty.

On the plains...

Zeoll's tauric humour doesn't 'translate' well, and the seriously wounded grass ranger is able to fend off the wemic's spell (Will Save=22). Of medium size, and built like a half-elf, the ranger is lithe and flexible. His studded leather is, however, insufficient to ward off the pounding meted out by the desperate centaur, as Flat-Top puts all of his force behind his morning star and dashes out the creature's brains. The manic display by the second hunter is a strange spectacle, as it rolls on the ground all flailing limbs wracked by spasms of laughter. The striated pattern of yellows and browns on leggings and tunic, the tanned skin, and yellow hair, render it almost indistinguishable from the grasses on which it now lies. With a shriek that ends in a lion's roar the grievously wounded hippogriff snaps at the summoned bat, then swipes with its claws, missing the nimble creature on all counts. (Hippogriff AC 15, Grass Ranger AC 19)

In the jungle...

Forewarned by his familiar, Rock with Winterglade in tow some distance behind, treads with careful measured steps. The minotaur receives a final vague image of a large shadowy creature, before the sense of vertigo as Mandragora spins away from the site of danger. A wand gripped firmly in his hand, the taur advances. The clinking of dislodged pebbles is picked up by the taur's keen ears (used Sept. 1 Spot/Listen rolls) before 2000 lbs. of brown fur slam into the wizard, knocking him to the ground. (Hit AC 36, trip 24 vs Rock's take 10 of 13). Sharp teeth like those of a wolf bite down on the arm holding the wand (10 pts. dmg) and Rock finds himself pinned under a creature resembling a bear, with the teeth of a wolf, and a long heavy tail. (Rock: please post AC and HP as well as any spells in effect.)

Having taken a step away from one danger, Winterglade is caught from behind by another as an unseen assailant steps from the forest onto the path behind him, and fires his shortbow. (Hit AC 21 for 6 pts. dmg.)

Pah'caw focuses on the spot where the black bird disappeared. Brahmah senses no fear from his eagle companion, and with the last fleeting glimpse of the bird sent to him, identifies the raven as the companion of the newest member of the Chosen. This information spurs him forward. (Brahmah, Listen vs DC 12 to hear faint sounds of conflict somewhere up ahead.)

On the beach...

The still super-sized Gecktar fails to regain his footing as the walls of water on either side of the dry zone created by Toros come crashing down. The minotaur strikes out mightily though, and is able to keep his head above water. As he makes his way to shore, he finds his passage blocked by his enemy of earlier. The large aquatic humanoid, scorched and bleeding, staggers as he thrusts forward with his trident (Hit AC 27 for 14 dmg.) (Tide Hunter AC 20)

Toros springs forward and slashes at the aquatic hunter before him, opening a long wound across the creatures upper arm, before springing away to the water's edge. The creature retaliates and hurls it's net at the retreating wemic, ensnaring him. The hunter begins pulling Toros to deeper water. [Hit AC=24, Str Check vs DC 16 to avoid being pulled]

[OOC I disagree with your interpretation of 'hide in plain sight'. To hide when moving requires movement at 1/2 speed which in my mind would negate the spring attack. There are also no sufficiently large shadows on the beach to hide within.]

Zeoll (AC16, HP22 of 36) and Bat (AC20, HP14 of 30) (Inspire Courage)  d20+6=24 d8+5=8 d8+12=18 d20+12=18
Wednesday September 6th, 2006 10:21:44 AM

The Bat attacks the hippogriff. it hits AC24 and inflicts 8 hp damage! If that kills the hippogriff, then the bat takes a move action to fly over to the grass ranger.

Zeoll hustles to the laughing grass ranger, moving to the opposite side of it from Flat-top. That way they are both flanking. As he moves, Zeoll drops his potion in the grass and draws his holy two-handed sword.

Then Zeoll swings at the humanoid. He has a +4 because it is prone, +2 flanking, and +1 inspire courage. With his base +5, that gives him a +12 to hit. But he still only hits AC18, so he misses.

LATER EDIT! The reason Zeoll missed was because he was rolling a d8 instead of a d20! Here's a new attack roll! Gosh darn it! Still an 18! LOL!

"Take him down, Flat-top," says Zeoll. "But let's trry to keep him alive for inforrmation!"

[Ceil, remember you get an extra +7 to hit. That's +4 prone, +2 flanking, +1 inspire courage!]

On the plains...

Zeoll's summoned bat bites again at the hippogriff, which falls to the ground in a blood soaked heap. The bat abandons it's prey and flies towards the remaining hunter. Zeoll realizes just how fortunate they are that his spell struck down their opponents and tries to end the combat with his sword. His foe manages to roll to one side and avoid the wemics blade but rolls directly into Flat-top's morningstar. It is only a glancing blow, not enough to incapacitate the prone hunter.

In the jungle...

Brahmah hears Rock's scream of pain from somewhere ahead and hustles forward, anxious to assist his comrades. He orders Pah'caw to reveal himself to the Chosen below and the bird utters a long drawn out scream that tails off as he descends to near tree top height. Brahmah estimates he is still some 100' away from his companions.

Rock lies beneath the bearhound and wonders if he will see another day as the menacing maw of the creature drips saliva on him. The bearhound is confused. It lowers its face towards the minotaur's and roars loudly as if to frighten it's prey into action [Rock must make a level check vs DC 21 or be demoralized and shaken resulting in -2 on attacks, saving throws and ability checks for 1 round ( d20+ level + Wisdom bonus + save modifiers vs fear)]

Winterglade bravely comes to Rock's assistance, ignoring both his own pursuer as well as the bearhound. As Winterglade casts his spell, the Bearhound lashes out with a razor sharp claw [Hit AC =32 for 8 HP; please roll concentration check vs DC 18 or the healing spell fails. The hunter fires two more arrows at the centaur for good measure. The first goes wide but the second strikes Winterglade in the shoulder [Hit AC 12 and 25 for 8 HP]

On the beach...

The battle on the wet sands grows more desperate as Gecktar tries to strike out at his foe and fails, opening himself to yet another attack from the deadly trident, but before the barbed weapon can reach him,
Toros fires his wand once more at Gecktar's adversary. The bolts of energy slam into the aquatic creature's body and Gecktar can see the life drain from it's eyes.

The creature that has netted Toros retaliates by stabbing at him with his trident [Hit AC= 25 for 13 HP]. The aquatic creature renews his efforts to control the wemic [STR =13]

Brahmah moves double time toward the scream, knowing it to be a Chosen. (Please describe the scene from Brahmah's POV when he reaches it.)

He then tells Pah'caw to hide herself in a tree above the Chosen.

The ranger's weapons are drawn absentmindedly as he runs. (*Running with scissors!*)

[Concentration check for last turn's spell: 17, failed.]

Winterglade is unable to complete the invocation and the healing power fizzles. Then an arrow slams into his back.

"Just a moment, be right with you."

Well, this is getting serious. Winterglade is wounded, but Rock is a sitting duck. The centaur decides to aid the minotaur and hope that his armor will allow him to last long enough to heal himself, too. He shouts out two words and a protective ward forms around Rock, shielding him from the beast.

Well, at least that's what he hopes it will do...

In the jungle...

Brahmah hurries towards the sounds of battle, pushing aside the dense foliage as he moves. The first thing he sees through the understory is a large four-legged creature, perhaps 6 and ½ feet at the shoulders, part bear, part wolf, standing over Rock some 50 feet away. Winterglade is stooped beside them. They are at the foot of a rock outcrop that towers some 50' above them to the left and at the edge of a low marshy area that extends many hundreds of feet to their right, A narrow passage of traversable ground approximately 15 feet wide winds between the rocks and the marsh and leads through the jungle past his friends and into the distance.

The second thing the Captain of the Chosen sees are two black dots growing larger as they approach him. The two arrows streak towards the minotaur and strike him in quick succession [Hit AC=22 and 28 for 7+7 HP]

Winterglade casts yet another spell on Rock, even though the first spell failed. Again the bearhound lashes out at the centaur disturbing it's sport [Hit AC= 33 for 7 HP OOC Concentration check vs DC 17 required for spell to work]

The beast then turns it's attention back to Rock, and attempts to claw at the prone wizard [Hit AC 24 and 19 for 22 HP only if Winterglade's spell fails, otherwise the creature roars in frustration and leaps off Rock and faces Winterglade]

On the beach...

Gecktar manages to release himself from the net and struggles back to shore. He yells for the surrender of the second aquatic assailant. Toros remains ensnared by the other net and adopts a defensive posture to ward off any further attacks. His opponent cares little and stabs again at the wemic with his trident [Hit AC = 21 and 26 for 13 HP] before trying to pull the cat deeper into the water [STR=8]

[OOC Toros' AC in the net would be 25 by my accounting (10+ 1racial +5 armor +2 buckler +4 dex -1 size +1 amulet +1ring, +4 total defence -2net), Total defence is a standard action, therefore Toros cannot activate his curing item and be in total defence at the same time]

On the plains...

Flat-top rears up on his rear hooves and smashes down on the grass hunter with all of his weight, scoring with both of his magic horseshoes. The wemic joins in , slashing with his sword and clawing at the hunter with his massive paws. The creature rolls and laughs but cannot evade all of the blows and is beginning to look a little the worse for wear!

Zeoll's bat makes one last attack on the enemy before it is conjured back from whence it came. But the laughing enemy dodges the bat's bite (hits AC18, a miss)

Zeoll himself fares better. His sword hits, but both paws miss. The sword inflicts 14 points of damage.

Zeoll still retains the hope of capturing the enemy unconscious, rather than killing it.

But most of all, with the laughing spell, the inspire courage, and summoning all ending right NOW, Zeoll hopes that the enemy is finished too.

[NOTE: If the enemy is still conscious, he'll either have to act while prone or use a move action to stand up, which provokes Attacks of Opportunity (unless he uses Tumble Skill to stand up without provoking AoOs). If Zeoll gets to make an AoO, then he hits AC27 for 9 damage.]

Rock (shaken) HP 29/39 AC11 (possibly HP 10/39)  d20+4=15
Friday September 8th, 2006 11:33:17 AM

Becoming weak from loss of blood and frightened by the roar of the beast, Rock now no longer even screams. His eyes madly scan the landscape, hoping for some miracle from the God that put him here in the midst of this.

His left hand, grasping, closes around a scrap of cloth in one of his pouches.

Toros - addendum  d20+4=8
Friday September 8th, 2006 9:22:23 PM

Losing some power during the struggle, still Toros manages to stand against the strength of his opponent.

(Forgot to roll the str check, 8, just made it!)

Winterglade AC21 HP6(51)  d20+11=15 d20+11=17
Saturday September 9th, 2006 2:55:08 AM

[Concentration check for Sanctuary 15, failed.]

Winterglade hears the voice of Brahmah, but the action around him is too intense to think about an answer.

Both he and Rock are close to expiring, but there is no time for fear or any other emotions. At times like this it all comes down to a second of cold calculation - and this second reveals that Winterglade has more chances to survive for the next few moments than Rock, so Rock needs to be protected first.

The centaur tries the Sanctuary yet again, again casting it defensively [defensively spontaneously casting Sanctuary on Rock, over Endure Elements, Concentration check 17].

Brahmah
Saturday September 9th, 2006 10:10:44 AM

"If you can, just move toward me! Do nothing else except defend." A voice of panic issues from the minotaur, noticing that it is the two newest Chosen.

(Can Brahmah see what sort of damage the beasty has taken, if any?)

DM Bob & Carla  IN THE JUNGLE (Bearhound attack=d20+20=35 and Strength=d20+8=22, Hunter Attack d20+11=14 d20+11=29, dmg d6+5=11) ON THE BEACH (Hunter d20+13=17 d20+8=22 d20+4=9)
Sunday September 10th, 2006 9:25:04 PM

In the jungle...

Unable to spot the archer using him as target practice, the leader of the Chosen does see the great furry beast pinning the frightened wizard to the ground. Brahmah sees blood on the creature's muzzle and paws, but sees no visible wounds to account for the blood. Rock and Winterglade, on the other hand appear to be in rough shape.

Muted by his fear, the prone minotaur can only grab blindly for some component of a spell while his companion tries to offer additional protection. Confused by the lack of movement from the minotaur, the bearhound leaps off Rock and wrapping his paws around Winterglade, tries to bring the centaur to the ground. (Hit AC 35, trip 22 vs Winterglade's take 10 of 10).

Meanwhile an unseen assailant sends two more arrows Brahmah's way. One arrow whizzes harmlessly over the minotaur's shoulder, but the other pierces the flesh of his upper arm. (Hit AC 11, and 29 for 11 pts. dmg) Pah'caw looks for the unseen archer (Please roll for Pah'caw's Spot and any actions.)

(OOC: Silversheen and Pass Without Trace would be expired.)

On the beach...

Having overcome his assailant, Gecktar pauses on the beach to attend to the most immediate of his wounds. Out in the water, Toros is able to withstand the strength of the aquatic, however the blue-green hunter doesn't give up and strikes out twice with his trident. Though uninjured, the strain of combat is upon him, and he misses the taur (Hit AC 17 and 22) and gives a half-hearted pull at the net (Strength vs DC 9 or be pulled further out into the water.)

On the plains...

Showing no sympathy for the last of the grass hunters, Flat-Top metes out justice with his morningstar. Though Zeoll spares a thought for capturing the enemy alive, it is too little, too late. When the deadly blows have finished raining down on the hapless hunter, he is beyond recognition. The sun reaches its zenith, and all is quite on the plains, save for the heavy breathing of the heroes and the buzzing of insects that have discovered the corpses of the grass hunters and their hippogriff mounts.

Rock
Monday September 11th, 2006 2:43:13 AM

Recovering his feet and his senses, Rock realizes that without his companions he will never survive and, summoning up his concentration, breathes in deeply. As he does this, he steps back away from the beast and Winterglade. ((5 foot step))

His voice takes on a hollow, echoing tone, and the word he speaks sounds louder than a mortal voice could muster, while eerily breathy, like a whisper.

"Blindnesssss..."

((Targeting the bearhound, DC 10+ 2(spell level)+3 (int bonus), +1 (spell focus)= 16; effective caster level for SR= 10))

Winterglade AC21 HP6(51)  d20+11=16
Monday September 11th, 2006 3:37:21 AM

Winterglade is tripped prone, which is actually a preferred thing to being treated to creature's claws. Without losing time to stand up he uses his powers yet again, bringing about another protective ward, this time centered around himself [spontaneously defensively casting Sanctuary over Bless, Concentration check 16, passed].

The centaur considers standing up, but decides to remain prone instead. This way he will present a more difficult target for the archer, should he decide to shift his aim again.

[Sanctuary DC16, round 1(6)]

Toros  d20+4=9
Monday September 11th, 2006 3:49:52 AM

Toros patiently gets along with the circumventing conditions: defends himself, while waiting for Gecktar to fully recover, and applying just enough strength to counter-balance his opponent. (strength check, 9, the other is as same as the previous post)

Zeoll smiles at Flat-top. "Good worrk, my frriend!" he says. "But I am sorrry they had to die. I have to think of ways arround that."

He goes over and picks up his potion of CMW, from where he had let it fall to the grass.

Then the liontaur spontaneously casts Detect Magic and looks over the fallen foes. He looks for magic and also for those blow guns and poison.

On the plains...

Zeoll spares a moment to regret the passing of fellow creatures of the Wold, however Flat-Top does not share his sentiments. As the centaur tends to his wounds, the wemic casts magic over the remains to discern if there is anything special about them. The studded leather on the two corpses glows a faint blue, as do the 4 scimitars, and the gloves worn by both hunters. Zeoll and Flat-Top are able to locate the blow-pipes used by the grass rangers as well as 14 darts between them.

On the beach...

Toros resists the aquatic hunter, while the blue tinged creature strikes out again with his trident, missing the wemic on both counts. The creature then pulls at the net containing Toros (Strength vs DC 9) while Gecktar plunges through the surf to come to his stricken friend's aid. [OOC: Gecktar has to cover too much ground and would be unable to reach Toros' side or the aquatic creature this round. He will be able to strike out next round. You can apply your previous dice rolls or roll again, your choice! Tide Hunter AC 20.]

In the jungle...

Rock stands up and takes a five foot step away from the bearhound and prepares to cast a spell [OOC Rock cannot stand from prone, take a five foot step and cast a spell all in one round as standing from prone is already a move action]

Winterglade casts a spell upon himself from beneath the beast while Brahmah continues moving towards the bearhound and delivers a single massive blow to the creature. [OOC Brahmah was 50 feet away, and could not have covered 45 of those feet in one round, retrieved a philtre and drank it in the previous round, thus he only gets the one attack this round.]

The bearhound roars in pain, and delivers a massive bite to the centaur beneath him [Will save =17 to ignore Sanctuary, Hit AC=22 for 12 HP * note -4 AC penalty]. It then turns it's attention to Brahmah, lashing out with it's claws and slashing at the Minotaur's exposed leg [Hit AC=24 for 6 HP].

Two more arrows streak towards the Captain of the Chosen as he engages the beast that torments his friends [Hit AC=18 and 28 for 8 HP]

The two birds call in alarm and seek out the source of the arrows. They see a medium sized humanoid dressed in various shades of green and brown some 60 feet behind Brahmah. His exact position is difficult to pinpoint as he blends in so nearly perfectly with the surrounding vegetation. One minute he is there, and the next he is gone.

Using the distraction that comes with Gecktar's and Domi's fury, Toros attacks with his scimitar to complement the flanking assault (21 against AC with 11 d20, +8 attack bonuses with keen scimitar and +2 flanking), while resisting to be pulled to the water (str. 14). If his attack under the net is successful, the scimitar could cause some wound on the hand that his opponent holds the net. (9 hp damage, if the creature is a monstrous humanoid there will be additional +2 damage from ranger's favored enemy)

Zeoll gathers up and stows away the magical loot and the strange weapons. He is careful not to touch any poison.

"Come on, Flat-top. We have to find the otherrs. I just prray that they have farred as well as we have."

Zeoll leads his centaur friend toward the jungle. As they move, he keeps alert to any sign that reminds him that they have come this way before. He does his best to orient himself on the island, and to figure out where the heck they are. He casts a Taur's Try cantrip for inspiration. As he casts it, he thinks of Toros and hopes that he is well.

Brahmah AC 26, hps 18/93 (shield)  d20+15=27
Tuesday September 12th, 2006 12:19:32 PM

(Wow, this is looking alot like a tap I left a month ago. Taking tips from Dan? :)
Brahmah drank and moved PRIOR to the round psoted on Sunday. Which means, having been 100ft away and running(stated he was running IN POST) on Thursday... moving at least quadrupel speed (being 120ft), Brahmah would have been able to take a full round of attacks from 10ft away having the natural reach. Even on overgrown terrain, Brahmah should have made it.)

Not seeing much option, with two comrads in dire need of attention and himself in the worst of conditions entering a combat, the minotaur does the only thing he can do. He is outnumbered and out classed by the opponents.
"We surrender! Call off your hound! Your killing my friends!!" (Aiding Winterglade, AC 27)

(The ONLY reason I have not attacked again is I'm confused. I don't understand how two magic users could have handled three opponents of this type skill, even prior to Brahmah showing up.)

[OOC Reply: To quote your post "Brahmah moves double time toward the scream", and we responded by indicating you were 50 ft. way. There are only two opponents, not three. Brahmah was meant to be a part of the team, but played things out differently at the mansion. We delayed action for as long as possible to get Brahmah into the situation, without forcing things. The other PC's have chosen not to enter into combat, for reasons of their own. The story will continue to unfold and we will respond in accordance with how the players post/play it.-DM Bob and Carla]

DM Bob & Carla  ON THE BEACH (Hunter vs Toros d20+13=20 vs Gecktar d20+8=28 crit. threat d20+8=10 not confirmed 2d6(2+5)+6=13 dmg)) IN THE JUNGLE (Bearhound Fort save vs. Blindness d20+13=30)
Tuesday September 12th, 2006 10:19:29 PM

On the beach...

Gecktar plows through the water and invoking the power of the god of courage, slams his weapon down on the green creature from the sea. (9/10 rounds of 'Enlarge' used, only 1 round remaining!) Toros pokes his scimitar through a hole in the net, and slices at the large (not monstrous!) aquatic's wrist, but the net (don't forget the -2!) makes it awkward and he misses his target. The blue-green humanoid swings his trident first at the netted wemic (Hit AC 20) and then at the minotaur (Hit AC 28, critical threat, 10, for 13 dmg) before disappearing underneath the water leaving a small cloud of blood in his wake. (20% mischance of hitting the aquatic under the water. Roll d100. If 20 or less, then fail. Tide Hunter AC 20)

On the plains...

The wind ruffles the manes of the centaur and wemic as they ponder in which direction they should strike out. Flat-Top turns in a slow 360 his eyes and ears open, while Zeoll collects what is now rightfully his and Flat-Top's. The centaur does not see or hear any sign of his friends' familiars, but while facing south, the wind that blows from the left (east) carries the scent of the sea. Zeoll leads the way south and towards the jungle with Flat-Top following at a canter. Although the terrain is not unlike that encountered on the taur isles, the wemic has never been in this place before. (OOC: 10-15 minutes to reach the edge of the jungle. Zeoll and Flat-top can role play post next couple of posts.)

In the jungle...

Winterglade slips into unconscious, and the wounded bearhound steps over him and towards Brahmah. Behind the beast, Rock whispers to the powers of unlife, invoking them to render the beast blind. (Completed Rock's action from previous post.) With a shake of his mighty head, and a guttural "YYYNNNEEEEERRRRRRRHHHH!" the bearhound shakes off the spell (Fortitude Save =30) as it advances towards Brahmah.

In a strange turn of events, the minotaur leader of the Chosen calls for clemency, as Mandragora and Paw'caw watch from above.

From 60 feet behind Brahmah comes a light mocking voice, speaking in Common, "Is this some trick?"

Gecktar takes the net ensnaring Toros in his powerful enlarged hand and pull his friend so as to get back on the beach leaving the water. "Toros, combined efforts ! he yells to his friend.

(STR check 17)

(Reply: The aquatic is just sinking below the surface of the water (his 5 ft. move). The water would distort what Gecktar and Toros would see, therefore the % mischance if they decide to attack. One aquatic has been killed, leaving this one, who is wounded. If this changes what Gecktar would do, write a new post and I will delete this one.-DM Carla)

Zeoll
Wednesday September 13th, 2006 10:28:19 AM

Zeoll puts on a pair of magic gloves from the fallen foes. He offers a pair to Flat-top as well. "If they werre worrn by those fighterrs, they can't be too dangerrous."

As the pair of Taur friends head for the Jungle, Zeoll says to Flat-top, "My old comrrade, I hope that the otherr Chosen arre farring well. If they arre winning theirr fights, then we will be okay. But what if they arre losing?"

"We have to plan forr the worrst. If only some of the Chosen surrvive, what will we do? I think that we cannot trrust that so-called doctorr."

"I think we have to make it ourr mission to get the bodies of ourr fallen frriends. That way we can rraise them frrom death. Orr we have to get get a rrelic frrom each, at the least."

"If we can do that and then get off the island, maybe we can find a way to rrestorre ourr frriends to life. But what if we arre trrapped herre?"

"We also might want to capture some of the staff. My magic can make them talkative, so that we can find out morre."

"Anotherr idea is to harrass orr even kill the humans and other small two-leggerrs. If we cannot leave, at least we can find the courrage to rresist."

"Maybe we should make a base hidden on the island, orr several safe places. That way we will have places to hide and rrecoverr when wounded."

Zeoll is just brainstorming, so all the ideas are just tumbling out.

(Actually, in order to get the quote right, you would have had to say The ranger's weapons are drawn absentmindedly as he runs. (*Running with scissors!*) Which is the last line of the post. Hence, Brahmah was running! I seem to have misread, I thought there was two archers and a bearhound. All is well though, no worries. If we die, then it was meant to be.)

"No, no trick. I am honorable, I speak the truth. We are unwilling participants in this sick game of the Doctors. We are in no shape to compete."

The ranger tries to feel what the bearhound might want. Is it a pet just doing what it is told? (Empathy check vs animal 19, 15 vs beast)
"I wish no further harm on your animal! He is an innocent, as we all are! We were ship wrecked and fell into the clutches of the master of this island. I do not know your situation, but I hope you understand mine." He assumes (or hopes) this beast is the archers friend. He sends a message for Pah'caw to stay out of arrow range.

Brahmah attempts to stabalize Glade. (Heal check 13, failed) He then retrieves a potion and forces it down Winterglade's throat. (Heals 9 damage)

He then exchanges a glance with Rock, then whispers almost imperceptably, avoiding the temptation to move his lips. "Can you see the archer?"

Brahmah will not strike the bearhound, even if it means his own death. The minotaur is no diplomat and has principles, if he can avoid killing someone's unwilling animal friend, he will.

Rock
Wednesday September 13th, 2006 6:31:55 PM

(Rock would not have cast the spell after Brahmah surrendered. Since he wasn't able to cast, he didn't cast.)

In minotaur, Rock grunts "No."

DM Bob & Carla  IN THE JUNGLE (Bearhound Sense Motive d20+2=10)
Wednesday September 13th, 2006 9:18:36 PM

In the jungle...

Perched high above Pah'caw and Madragora watch with total curiousity as the strange events unfold below.

"YYYNNNEEEEERRRRRRRHHHH!" repeats the large magical beast, its furry face only 3 feet from Brahmah's while its intelligent eyes scan the tattooed minotaur. The leader of the Chosen quickly realizes his mistake when a low bass rumble announces in Common, "I am not his animal, you mutant perversion of a cow! What dark magician conjured you?" The animal pads around the taur to stand behind him, as Brahmah ministers to Winterglade and Rock stands watching. "You should let it die!" growls the intelligent creature, pausing to lick his wounded shoulder. "We are doing the doctor a favour, ridding his island of such abominations!"

Behind the bearhound, for just a moment, there appears to be a medium sized humanoid, bow in hand, two arrows held in the other. Dressed in shades of green and brown, his exact position is difficult to pinpoint as he blends in so nearly perfectly with the surrounding vegetation.

(OOC: Rock's decision not to cast the spell noted.-DM Carla)

On the plains...

Zeoll dons a pair of the confiscated gloves. They are thin and very flexible and meld to the wemic's paws in such a way as to lead him to believe he will have no difficulty picking up small items or manipulating tiny gadgets. He invites Flat-Top to do the same. As the pair make their way hastily towards the jungle, they voice their concerns over their comrades and the doctor's true intentions.

On the beach...

Gecktar tugs at the net containing Toros, backing up through the water towards the beach. On reaching the shallows, and looking back on where they had previously been, the taurs see the wounded hunter rise out of the water and thrust his hand out over towards the beach. Once again a surge of water threatens to engulf the taurs. (Gecktar and Toros make a Reflex save vs DC 15 to avoid losing footing in the rogue wave.)

Winterglade 24(51)  3d8(8+1+7)+6=22
Thursday September 14th, 2006 2:43:56 AM

Winterglade regains consciousness, coughs, and, even before he opens his eyes, as a knee-jerk reaction, casts a healing spell on himself [CSW over Inv.Purge].

Then he picks himself up.

"Brahmah? Where did you come from? And who brewed that stuff for you? By Brawler's Hand, that aftertaste is going to haunt Winterglade for a week."

The centaur looks around.

"What? We are not killing each other anymore? You decided to take five to smoke a pipe?"

The beast mentions something about the Doctor and a small bell rings in centaur's head.

"Listen sunshine, just to set things straight, you are not doing him a favour, you are providing him with entertainment. Just last night he called us his guests and invited us to dine with him. The dishes were a tad heavy on the poison side, you see. If he really just wanted to be rid of us all he would have needed to do would have been to double the dose. Instead he locked us up to provide sport."

"You don't believe Winterglade? How did you like the library? The tapestries on his walls? But we probably shouldn't take too long discussing his tastes in interior decoration, the good Doctor must be becoming upset that his puppets on a string are no longer dancing."

"My apologies, I did not realize that you were able to speak, call it my ignorance. I am sorry. What can I call you? It is rather rude to call you bearhound or beast, or animal.
I am one of Domi's children. He watches over us. We were of one race once, beautiful and whole. Then our greed, stupidity and hatred for one another tore us in three. Our goal is to naturally reunite the race as one.

As for getting off this island after a shipwreck, we were trying to do just that by asking the Doctor to help us leave. I will happily leave and never speak of this place to another soul."

"As for killing us, we are no sport in our condition. You require a true challenge."

"Animal or not, my word still stands, I wish no more harm on you. We just want to get home."

With the help of Gecktar Toros gets rid of the net, which made him assume that they also get rid of their hunters, and starts thinking to relax a bit, even if he does not put his weapon and wand back yet. And it becomes pretty clear soon that what he was thinking was wrong!

The tide hunter and waves appear one more time. Fortunately his reflexes help him to balance and stand still. (reflex 16 without modifiers)

He tries to help Gecktar so that both can get away from the water.

If he can he will ready his magic missile wand to hit the hunter, whenever he attempts to attack or cast a spell etc. (18 hp damage)

On the Plains...

Zeoll and Flat-top try on the gloves recovered from their foes, collect the other equipment and begin heading south. They share their concerns for their comrades and wonder what lies in store for them. [OOC where are you headed, at what pace?]

On the Beach...

Gecktar and Toros weather the incoming wall of water and Toros reacts by sending forth another blast from his wand. The missiles arc towards the half submerged creature, striking it in the upper torso. It shudders at the impact, lets out an angry cry and dives beneath the waves.

In the Jungle...

"No sport indeed" growls the hunter. "Rabbits provide more sport than this...that Mauroth better make good on this." The hunter keeps his bow knocked and pointing in the general direction of the three taurs. "Surrender it is then. Pile your belongings over there and then turn and face the rocks or I'll feed your livers to my friend." The hunter points the bow at a small mossy patch to indicate where the taurs should place their belongings. The bearhound takes a step back and keeps a wary eye on the three captives. It seems to keep an especially malevolent eye on Brahmah.

Zeoll and Flat-top continue to hustle towards the jungle. Having no clue where they are, really, Zeoll is simply seeking a place under cover, and the tangled arms of a natural jungle seem welcoming to the druid.

Zeoll agrees with Flat-top, that magical surveillance is a risk they take. But he is keeping his eyes and mind open, seeking the magical sensors that the would-be seer knows would reveal a scrying attempt.

Spot 13, Will Save 18.

Zeoll falls silent as the two Taurs head to the jungle. He says a prayer to Domi of thanksgiving for their victory over the grass rangers, or whatever they were.

He chuckles playfully.
"I didn't think we were gullable either, but look at us now. Pathetic aren't we.

On the Plains...

Zeoll and Flat-top make their way towards the jungle at a brisk pace, it is still a long run before they will find themselves beneath the 'safety' of the jungle canopy. Zeoll worries about the possibility of a scrying spell while Flat-top worries about fashion...

On the Beach...

Toros and Gecktar back away from the water but maintain their vigilance in case their aquatic foe returns to try again. Gecktar considers recovering the corpse of the second aquatic creature which now floats face down in the water some 30 feet away. It is slowly being drawn out to sea by the receding tide.

In the Jungle...

"Far Rahedan" growls the hunter, and the bearhound leaps at Winterglade, tripping the centaur [Hit AC=26, Improved Trip=23 It's massive jaws reach for the cleric's throat, pinning him to the ground. Winterglade senses that at the merest movement on his part that the creature will surely clamp down and tear out his windpipe. [Held Action Bite AC=38/22 critical confirmed for 24 HP]

[OOC Winterglade could not stay 20 feet from the bearhound and heal Brahmah -- no attack of opportunity, but a simple 5 foot step puts the bearhound in range of Winterglade -- potential AoO for Brahmah if he wishes it]

The hunter immediately raises his bow and readies to shoot an arrow at either Brahmah or Rock should either of them fail to follow his command. "On your knees and face the rocks. Either you comply immediately or your surrender means nothing!" [Held Action, Hit AC= 26 and 24 for 7 + 11 HP. On the edge of the plains...

Zeoll and Flat-Top cover the miles between the place of their combat and their destination. Sweat covers their flanks as the sun moves on its trajectory across the blue sky marking the time as past the middle of the day. It has been many hours since the doctor's ill-fated dinner, and rations lost to the sea have not been replenished. Much energy has been dispensed in defeating the hunters and crossing the plains. (Zeoll and Flat Top Constitution Check vs DC 10 or take 1 pt. non-lethal damage and become fatigued).

On the beach...

Gecktar retrieves the torn net belonging to the aquatic, while Toros keeps watch. The liontaur sees no sign of the second aquatic, and watches as his friend uses the damaged net to successfully ensnare the floating corpse and pull it to shore. The warmth from the sun high overhead, and the exertion of combat have taken thier toll on the taurs who are both hungry and thirsty. (Gecktar and Toros Constitution Check vs DC 10 or take 1 pt. non-lethal damage and become fatigued.) (OOC: You are out of combat rounds and may post in role-play time.-DM Carla)

In the jungle...

Winterglade tries to keep a sense of humor as he sees the last seconds of his life reflected in the dark iris's of the bearhound standing over him. Rock stares on mutely while Brahmah makes no effort to do as he's told. With a flap of his great wing's Pah'caw lifts off from the tree-top and goes to continue his search of the island, while Mandragora turns his head and lifts a wing to shield his view from that which is occurring below.

The archer's eyes narrow, and he presses his lips close together as he looses his first arrow--past the leader of the Chosen and towards the minotaur wizard where it lodges in Rock's thickly muscled thigh. (Hit AC 26, 7 pts. dmg as per previous post/held action.) The second arrow remains notched, as the medium sized human addresses Brahmah. His voice is terse. "You may not value your life cow-man, but if you value the lives of your companions, you will do as I say! This is no hunt, but I will claim a prize. Now, make a pile of your belongings, along with your weapons, and face the rocks! This will be your last chance to escape with your life, and that of your companions." The bearhound standing over the cleric looks up to the hunter's face, and waits."

On the beach...

With help from Toros, Gecktar pulls the blue-green body of the aquatic creature up on the beach. He will have much to tell the other Chosen for the dead thing is like nothing he or Toros has ever seen before. It is a large aquatic humanoid with webbed fingers and toes, and gills on both sides of its neck. A sagital crest runs from the top of its head, down its neck, and onto its back with 3 spines spaced at regular intervals. From the opaque cast to its eyes, the taurs know it has gone to inhabit some watery deep in the Shadowlands.

Gecktar uses the power granted him by his god and provides water for himself and his companion. While Toros slakes his thirst, the minotaur casts another spell on the body and any retrieved gear. The creature's carapace (breast plate) and the trident glow blue.

Anticipating that their companions would most likely strike out towards Dr. Mauroth's manor, the two weary taurs strike out south along the beach.

At the edge of the jungle...

Flat-Top puts on a burst of speed, and reaches the edge of the jungle before his companion. Out of breath, but none the worse for wear, Zeoll soon catches up. The taurs stand in the shade cast by the trees at the very edge of the forested area and stare into the green gloom.

In the jungle...

(Sorry. This post will come later. BTW the archer is about 25 ft. from Brahmah-DM Carla)

In the jungle...

Sprawled under 2000 lbs of muscle and brown fur, Winterglade is unable to see much. He knows Rock isn't far, and he can hear Brahmah stalling for time. The minotaur's voice comes to the cleric from somewhere a little to one side, and up ahead on the jungle trail. A drop of blood drips from the wound in the bearhound's shoulder to stain the white mane of the centaur below.

Brahmah jokes, but the archer doesn't laugh. The minotaur sees the two-footer's face blanch, then flush crimson, when his final offer is ignored.

"So be it..."

Time seems to slow, and the blink of an eye becomes an eternity as the Captain of the Chosen sees the archer load his bow with not one, but two arrows...loose them...reload... and loose two more. Four arrows whistle past Brahmah and pierce the wizard standing off to one side behind him. Unable to see what is going on, Winterglade shares the pain of the companion he shields. (Hit AC 21 and 22 for 6+6+7+9 dmg. Winterglade's Shield Another spell still in effect. I have Rock at 5/39 HP, and Winterglade at 6/51 HP. Please, correct me if I am wrong.)

With a roar, the bearhound abandons the prone centaur (Winterglade can take an AoO on the bearhound), crossing the distance to the big minotaur taunting his companion, and clamps down on his thigh. (Hit AC 32 for 12 dmg to Brahmah).

With a flap of jet-black wings, Mandragor abandons his perch.

At the edge of the jungle...

Flat-Top pauses for a moment, gazing back over the plains and the blue sky above in hopes of spotting some signal that might show his companions still live. Seeing nothing, he plunges into the undergrowth after Zeoll. The liontaur's sharp eyes have picked out a narrow trail, likely used by animals much smaller than the 615 lb. liontaur and his 1440 lb. centaur companion. Regardless, he is able to follow the path and steer clear of any...entanglements. The wemic is pretty sure the twisty little path is leading in a southerly direction.

On the beach...

The magical marble is lost to Toros who keeps watch, gazing out to sea, while Gecktar the minotaur has a cat-nap.

High overhead, and winging his way towards the beach, is Brahmah's golden companion, Pah'caw.

The bearhound slashes out at the minotaur with his claws as Brahmah turns to attack the archer [AoO Hit Ac=29 for 11 HP]. The massive beast then lunges after the Captain of the Chosen, clamps down with his powerful jaws, and drags Brahmah to the ground [Hit AC=24 for 12 HP, Trip=30 OOC Brahmah's AC=24 for Charging?]]

With a cry the wounded archer backs away from the fallen minotaur, and fires a volley of arrows at Winterglade [Hit AC=30, 16, and 21 for 11+7 HP]

[OOC last round the archer could only fire 3 arrows, hence 9 HP vs Rock should be removed for a total of 19 HP; thus Rock at 9 HP, and Winterglade at 10 + healing of last round, - dmg. of this round = 12 HP. Thanks to Marcin for catching our error.]

Winterglade AC21 HP12(51)  2d8(1+6)+6=13 d8=6
Monday September 25th, 2006 4:31:18 AM

The centaur runs over to wounded Brahmah and reaches down. The power of Brawler surges through him, closing some of the wounds the Captain has sustained [spontaneously casting CMW over Delay Poison, healed 18 damage].

[As Brahmah takes up a 10x10 space I assumed Winterglade can reach him witout going in range of the bearhound. If the only way to heal is to enter the threathened zone he will do so on defensive. In that case please roll Concentration for me, he checks at +11.]

(My apologies, yes, Brahmah's AC WAS indeed 24 charging. M'bad.)(Side Note: I think its silly that there is no opposed roll of some type versus trip! Sigh.)

[In response to Glades querry, believe minotaurs are 10'x10' and have natural reach of 10', yes]

(Did his opponents make a Will save or whatever versus Intimidate?! :))

Brahmah hasn't been this far into the Realm of Shadows for awhile. He gets woozy. "You can rend me all you like bearhound, but I really didn't want to hurt you."
He attacks the hound. (prone -4 to attacks, AC miss, 27(21 threat), 19 and 8, for miss, 8(14 if crit), 13 and miss damage)

"Bite deeper to the bone furball... your teeth need sharpening. Your archer friend isn't very sporting. Doesn't he tie you up or chain you? He says its for YOUR safty does he? Ha, I bet!
Say are those fairies?" He begins rambling. "I bet their nice. Looks like twinkles." He giggles stupidly. "The dinner bell? Wine and cheese please. Purple. Doodads."

[OOC: Intimidating an opponent in combat is a standard action, Brahmah had already charged his opponent and therefor could not also intimidate]

On the beach...

Gecktar and Toros consider their options

Zeoll and Flat-Top...

The two taurs make their way through the jungle and towards the strange sound they heard earlier, but it goes strangely quiet.

In the Jungle...

Winterglade rushes to Brahmah's defence and casts a healing spell despite the immediate proximity of the bearhound. It reaches out with a massive claw and rakes the centaur for his troubles. [AoO Hit AC=25 for 8 HP; the bearhound is also large and standing over the prone minotaur]

The beast then turns back to the Captain of the Chosen who lies blathering beneath him. The bearhound clamps down with his jaws and rakes the minotaur with it's claws [Hit AC=28, 29 and 24 for 12+9+9=30 HP]. It roars in satisfaction as the minotaur goes limp beneath it.

The archer sends yet another volley of arrows at the cleric, but in his hurry he sends two wide. The third arrow finds a gap in the centaur's armor and burrows deep into his chest. [Hit AC=14,24,8 for 9 HP].

"Surrender now!" the archer bellows at Rock who stands frozen in horror "or die like your friends"

[OOC I concede the +11 roll on defensive casting]

"We should take the path where Pah'Caw is coming from. Even if it through the jungle. I'm not familiar with surviving in such climate but we need find the other Chosen"

Gecktar enters the jungle taking the direction where Pah'Caw was coming from.

Tuesday September 26th, 2006 9:49:46 AM

[Sorry I've been picking at the rules again, but the lack of AoO makes a critical difference here. With Rock being the next to go and Shield Other still active, and with my character at -6 the next arrow fired at Rock would kill Winterglade.]

[Concentration check for healing last round is 31: passed.]

Well, there is nothing more Winterglade can do here, he can't hope to overpower even one of his attackers by himself, and, as cruel as it might sound, two dead Taurs are better than three. The centaur decides to think about his own skin. He invokes Sanctuary yet again [defensive casting, Concentration check 24, passed, spontaneously over Remove Paralysis]. Then he about-turns and runs for the line of trees [move action: 50 ft, provokes AoO from the bearhound if he saves vs Sanctuary, Winterglade makes sure that he runs away from Rock and breaks Shield Other].

What a Full Moon's Feast. Well, the next ten seconds decide what happens next. If I manage to survive them, I just might make it through the day.

[Sanctuary DC15, round1(6).]
[If he fails to move away Shield Other is still active.]

The liontaur continues to lead Flat-top in the direction from which he heard the sound.

He says to Flat-top, "No, my friend, we must both stick togetherr. I am fairrly clumsy and loud forr a liontaurr, anyway. If you want, I will walk 40 feet ahead, though."

Zeoll tries to stay alert: Listen 14, Spot 24, Survival 21.

Brahmah
Wednesday September 27th, 2006 11:29:19 AM

Blood drains slowly from the minotaur. The dark gaping wounds already reek of death and decay.

Zeoll
Thursday September 28th, 2006 6:40:59 AM

Ever amenable, Zeoll walks fifteen feet ahead of Flat-top.

As they pass through the underbrush, Zeoll thinks that here at least he could win that race with the centaur, who would be hindered by the vines and undergrowth of the rain forest. Zeoll, of course, is able to walk without being slowed down, thanks to his connection with Mother Wold. But it would be unfair to use that connection in a friendly contest.

Still, his mobility here makes Zeoll feel much safer in the jungle than he did under the open skies.

Brahmah

Flat-top cannot trot as fast as Zeoll, but he tries to keep up with the old Weimic. Flat-top get's slap in the upper part of his body, while the lower part of his body gets the vines, the chuck holes and the branches of the lower bushes.

But all the same he pushes on, got to reunite.

In the jungle...

Winterglade decides discretion is the better part of valour, and after casting protective magics upon himself, he slips into the jungle, intent on putting some distance between himself and the hunters.

*****

The sun continues its route across the sky, bringing the cooling breezes of early eavening. In the jungle Zeoll and Flat-Top sense the changes as they make haste along the barely discernable path. Aproaching a marshy area, the path skirts close to a rocky outcrop which momentarily blocks their view. As the duo rounds the corner, a horrific sight is revealed. The crumpled and unconscious body of their captain lies sprawled on the bloody trail. Winterglade is gone, and Rock is nowhere to be seen. Ruined gear is spread in a radius around the prone minotaur.

On the beach...

Gecktar and Toros watch as the flying spot comes closer. Eventually their captain's great eagle comes into view.

As the two taurs head south down the beach, seeking an easier way to the interior of the jungle, the eagle follows them. After some time the cliffs taper towards the beach, and a narrow path can be made out twisting around the boulders towards the jungle. Looking south along the beach, Toros and Gecktar can make out some sort of projection into the water, but it is quite far ahead and hard to make out.

(OOC: We are out of combat, and folks can role-play post in approximately 10 minute time increments. We will need a little more info about what Winterglade did in the moments after he disappeared into the jungle. How far did he go and did he stop? Did he turn around to look back?-DM Carla)

Friday September 29th, 2006 3:43:43 AM

Winterglade runs for the jungle, expecting an arrow to pierce his throat at any moment. When he reaches the line of trees unmolested he risks a glance behind. Is he being followed?

Despite his logical part telling him there was nothing more he could have done, he feels a bitter aftertaste that he suspects will be with him for a while. Sure, he has run away from danger many times, but it is first time he is forced to leave companions behind. And Brahmah has just saved his life, too...

If he dies I'll find a way to have him brought back from dead. A <Reincarnation> maybe. If he is lucky he just might come back as a centaur.

[When at least one of the attackers starts following him, he will start moving steadily into the jungle in more or less a straight line, hoping that his equine speed will allow him to outdistance at least the archer. If possible he will try to judge the speed the bearhound is capable of before it crosses the clearing.]

[But for as long as the two stay in the clearing taking care of Rock and Brahmah, he will watch them from the concealment of foliage while healing himself. If they depart in a direction other than the one leading towards him, he will stay put, listening for anybody sneaking up on him: Listen 6. In that case he will probably come out when Zeoll does, unless attacked earlier, of course.]

[Spells used up for healing: Restoration(Lesser), Silence, Shield of Faith. Fully healed.]

That's it, I'm almost out of spells. If they go after me now I'll need to find an open space, like the plains we've been travelling through. Once I get there I should be able to keep safe distance from them. Unless it'll be a moonless night...

Flat-top will heal Brahmah for 8hp of Life.

In the jungle...

Fearing for his life, Winterglade runs for the jungle. On reaching the line of trees, he glances back and quickly surmises that he is not being pursued. Concerned for the companions he has left behind, he watches from his place of concealment. Winterglade can see Highlight to display spoiler: { the wounded archer stagger momentarily, then, dropping his weapons, he fumbles at a pocket and retrieves a vial which he quaffs. The bearhound shambles over to the petrified Rock, who spreads his arms out wide, palms up, in a sign of surrender. While the creature keeps the taur under guard, the human hunter riffles through Brahmah's gear, then moves over to sift through the wizard's gear. Pulling out a sword, the hunter approaches Rock. Some words are exchanged that the centaur can not hear, but he sees Rock nod in acknowledgement. The bearhound heads off down the trail, taking the direction from whence Brahmah had come. Rock marches next, with the human behind. The human looks back over his shoulder once or twice, but soon the party disappears from view.}

Brahmah dreams...

Reclining on soft green grass, Brahmah looks up into the sweet face of a bovine maiden smiling placidly at the scarred and tatooed taur, as she gently strokes his face. Just behind her, another female fills an intricately carved goblet with purple wine handing it to the first, who then holds the cup to the taur's lips...

But is brought back from the brink by his friends...

Zeoll, closely followed by Flat-Top, rushes to the aid of the unconscious minotaur. Fearing he may be lost to them, the two friends administer healing touches as well as curative draughts...

His eyes still closed, Brahmah feels the hurts of his many wounds returning.

On the beach...

Gecktar decides to pass by the narrow twisting path in favour of finding out what it is that he and Toros see farther down the beach. The pair makes their way carefully down the beach until they have a better view of what appears to be a long dock or pier that goes out to the water. Toros recognizes the dock as the one he saw depicted on the map in the doctor's study, after the ill fated dinner party. (Gecktar and Toros, Spot vs DC 12 to Highlight to display spoiler: { see figures standing on the dock.})

Winterglade
Saturday September 30th, 2006 6:24:00 AM

Soon after Zeoll appears the centaur emerges from the line of trees. He approaches slowly, as if dreading what he might find.

"Brawler be praised, he's alive."

Winterglade adds his healing to the efforts of others, but there is almost no power left in him and the result he achieves can be called pitiful at best [healing Brahmah spontaneously over cantrips, heals 4 damage]. Once the captain is conscious, the centaur sums up what has transpired.

"Winterglade understands you have been subjects of this madman's cruel game, too? Where are your pursuers?"

"Winterglade and Rock have been ambushed by an archer and a beast of some kind. By the time Brahmah showed up the two of us have been already defeated. Even with him around we have been effortlessly overwhelmed, especially since Rock underwent shock and couldn't do anything. We struggled, and they toyed with us. Winterglade couldn't keep up with healing and eventually run away. Rock has been taken prisoner and led away."

Winterglade takes out the party's Wand of Healing entrusted to him long ago.

"It is probably good time to take advantage of its powers. Let Winterglade see your wounds."

[Folks, damage status if you please?]

Flat-top

Brahmah remains on the ground, still stunned but everything, pain seeping back into the taur.

The ranger hears several words, though they are jumbled and make little sense.
"Surrender... all dead... Rock with the enemy..." Was Rock a traitor turncoat? Is so, he'll have to died.

Zeoll explains recent events as best as he can. "We werre set on by humanoids on hippogrriffs. We managed to kill them."

"How long ago was yourr fight? Wherre did they take Rock?"

[OOC: Has Rock's player left the game? If so, I'm sorry I missed that.]

Flat-top hears the Captain Moan, he look down at the pron Minotaur, Smiles. "Zeoll! I've been waiting a long time to say this, so here goes! Hit him again! with the healing wand."
Flat-top laugh at his privet joke.

Sunday October 1st, 2006 9:58:35 AM

The minotaur sits slowly up. A look of anger mixed with confusion crosses his face. Then just anger. "Damn it! I'm going to kill that Doctor and wear his head as a hat, then his goons will make nice boots and finally make a cloak from that %#$&%$^$* hound!" He growls primally.

He notices his gear and instinctively looks for his father's falchion first. "I swear, if he took..." Then he mutters something about 'gutting him like a tuna!'

Still unable to stand fully, he crawls around, looking for his gear, ALL of his gear.
