Oni Highlight to display spoiler: {"Me name is Fintan Finnliath. Me ship is the Odinjar Dreki. And me crew..." He chuckles and looks as the last of your four compatriots disappear below decks. "Yerself and yer friends be the crew of this majestic vessel."}
Everyone else Highlight to display spoiler: {Berlon calls forth his boat. A giant white swan-boat appears, floating lazily in the choppy waters. It is long enough to easily carry the seven of you.
Vorelle leaves Champ to watch the Merchants' boat. The dog woofs once and prances off to take shelter from the rain under the overhang of a nearby storage building, easily within quick reach of the boat should any ne'er-do-goods attempt to lift the boat.
With nothing left to do but board the boat, everyone quickly does. Theodore has some difficulty and Rose gives him a proper scolding.
The boat moves easily across the water, going where Berlon mentally directs the vessel. The ship slowly becomes more visible. It appears to be a longship. It's main purpose: war.
Across the side of the ship, several shutters for lower oars into the water. The boat itself seems unusually still in the harsh weather. Rising from the deck of the ship, a mast pierces the sky. A square black sail spreads from the timber. Strangely, the sail does not move even slightly in the hard wind.
Halfway to the ship and Vauhwyt puts the swan-boat into shadow. Ten minutes out and she casts alter self upon herself.
OOC - What are your plans for approaching the boat? How do you board? Who goes, who stays? Etc., etc.}

Welcome Jack/Oni back everyone!
Dietrich Tuesday September 19th, 2006 8:21:37 AM
Dietrich can´t help himself but to admire the vessel. Such a ship with the right crew can cause quite some havoc.
The knight takes the longbow at hands and readies an arrow. He prayes to Domi for the magic concealing the boat to work.
He will stay in the magic boat at first, waiting for the boarding party to call. "Friends, we don´t really know if we´re dealing with undead here, so I´d say that even Olyn and Berlon should stay back first. Only somenone stealthy and possibly invisible should go first, have a quick look, and return to report. Than we see if we all can go with the protection of divine magic, or if others have to stay back, or we all go for a fight."
Vauhwyt (AC20, 21 vs evil, HP57) and Mookie (AC18, 20 vs evil, HP26) (see below for active effects) d20+10=12 d20+10=22 d20+13=24 d20+25=28 d20+25=42 Tuesday September 19th, 2006 1:50:54 PM
As the boat approaches, Vauhwyt quietly urges whoever is working the tiller to try to keep the boat in fog banks and such.
Before she casts the Alter Self, she stows her armor in her pack and sets aside the following:
Grey Leather Sectioned Belt Pouch with scrolls, potions, and seals 150 feet silk rope Bag of Tricks Disguise kit Masterwork thieves tools +1 Amulet of Natural Armor +1 Ring of Protection +1 Ishgaran Gloves of Dexterity Mookie's tiny light-proof pack with two tiny ceramic rings in it. One ring (in pack) has Continual Flame cast on it ... the other (held by Mookie) has the Darkness spell cast on it.
All her other gear disappears when she casts Alter Self ... the above she puts on to wear in elf form.
Then she changes into a male elf. Sharing the spell, Mookie changes into a monkey.
Vauhwyt reads a scroll of Mage Armor as well. Then she drinks her Elixers of Hiding and of Sneaking.
As the swan boat comes near the ghost ship, Vauhwyt uses a scroll of Disguise Self and the disguise kit to make herself look like a zombie elf. On a whim, she adds a few pirate touches to her disguise, like an eye patch. Sharing the spell, Mookie looks like a zombie pirate monkey.
"Arrr! Shiver me timbers and get me some brains!" she says softly.
"Pieces of eight! Pieces of eight!" says Mookie, even softer. "I be lookin' fer pieces of eight!"
A minute out from the ship, Vauhwt starts reading scrolls, casting spells, etc. See below for list in order cast.
Vauhwyt looks at the ship and judges how hard it would be to scale (see below). If it is a harder than DC16 climb, then she casts another Alter Self on Mookie only, so that he can keep his monkey form even if he moves more than 5 feet from V.
Two of these scrolls are divine spells, and require Use Magic Device checks. Vauhwyt reads the Hide From Undead on the first try (a 24), and Mookie needs two tries (12 and 22) to read the Detect Evil.
Now right at the ship, Vauhwyt ansd Mookie concentrate to see if they can detect evil or undead from here.
Then, with Mookie clinging to Vauhwyt, Vauhwyt climbs up the side of the Ghost Ship. Her climb ability is a +6, so if she can scale the boat by taking 10 on a DC16 climb, she will do so. If scaling the boat is tougher DC than 16, then she will direct Mookie to climb up with one end of the rope. In monkey form, Mookie can beat a climb DC 25 without rolling (30 ft climb speed).
So either by rope or unaided, Vauwhyt climbs into the Ghost Ship. She is within the shadowy illumination and concealment of the Darkness spell, so she is hiding and moving silently. She takes a quick look around without going anywhere, and then whispers (via Message) for the other sneaky types to climb up.
"Ahoy," she whispers, "drag yer scuppers up the rope, me hearties!"
Move Silent: 28. Hide in Shadows: 42.
Active Effects (in order cast):
Darkness (15 minutes of 30 used) Alter Self (10 minutes of 40 used) Mage Armor (5 minutes of 60 used) Elixer of Hiding (5 minutes of 60 used) Elixer of Sneaking (5 minutes of 60 used) Two Message cantrips so everyone can whisper. NOTE: All effects except Detects are shared with Mookie!
Rose Tuesday September 19th, 2006 4:35:05 PM
Rose will follow Vauhwyt's example, except she has very few spells to cast most of hers are offensive. but she will quickly use a wand or two and offer them to the others (some are self only and she cant use the wand on the others but they can try to use it)
Rose will quickly take wands and cast shield, temp control, prestidation, and unseen servant. Shield is shared with piper. unseen servant is given the bag of tricks to hold and told to obey piper.
Rose will also make sure that her everburning ribbons are tucked away where the light wont show, but where she can get to them easily and that her holy water, oils, and potions are in the correct belt pouches for easy access.
wands people can use or have cast on them Prestidigitation, 49/50 charges Temp control, 50/50 charges, 24 hrs 5 cu feet, see spell for more detail Shield, (can only use on self) 47/50 charges, +4 to ac & negate magic missiles lasts 1 min Unseen servant, 50/50 charges. Range 25' from caster. Can lift 20 pounds or drag 100. lasts 1 hour.
ooc: I think I didnt send out my new character sheet so I'll do that today.
Berlon Tuesday September 19th, 2006 9:13:23 PM
Despite all the bustle of activity, Berlon remains relatively quiet, only taking the time to meditate a few moments. Once everyone starts doing their thing, Berlon starts with his spells.
First, he will cast Air Walk on himself (70 minutes) so he doesn't sink like a stone.
Second and third, he takes the time to cast both Eagle's Splendor and Owl's Wisdom on himself. (7 minutes each, new CHA 15 new WIS 20)
Fourth, and most inexplicably, he adds his own minor enchantment to Mookie, casting Prestidigitation (1 hour). First, a dark black cowl appears over the bird, much like what ninja's use. Then Mookie's left wing and half his face seemingly turn to metal! The eye not covered by the eyepatch turns into a glowing, red eye!
"Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot Monkey," the gnome deadpans.
Theodore & Macaw Tuesday September 19th, 2006 9:31:07 PM
The familiar tingling sensation creeps over Theodore. A bit of fear, a bit of excitement mingling into adrenaline. Adventure!
Taking a deep breath to steady himself, Theodore casts mage armor. (Lasts 7 hours.) When they reach the ship, Theodore casts invisibility on himself and then dimension door to put him up on the boat.
He keeps close to Vauhwyt on the ship, looking about for clues about the purpose of the mysterious ship.
Mookie Tuesday September 19th, 2006 9:47:36 PM
"Arrr! Me rust is itchy!" he says.
Then he adds, "Boss, why is the kid wasting a Dim Door when we could just climb up there and lower a rope?"
Vauhwyt says, "Aye, Matey. Now hush yer gob."

Oni Highlight to display spoiler: {As Captain Finlath is talking with you, a curious look comes upon his face and he looks out towards the harbor of Dirt City. "It be seeming that our crew do be increasing." He chuckles and steps toward the railing.}
Everyone else Highlight to display spoiler: {One minute out from the Ghost Ship, the swan-boat suddenly stops. Shaking violently, it LIFTS from the very water and levitates up to just above the deck of the ship. Then it jerks forward and speeds to the boat. As it lowers to the deck, you see the translucent image of an old but stout man in a wide brimmed hat. Beside him, of all things, stands a centaur.}
Oni Highlight to display spoiler: {You see an oddly shaped boat (like a swan?) float up into the sky and then shoot towards you to stop just above the Captain's ship.}
About a foot above the deck, the swan-boat disappears, depositing everyone on the wood of the ship. (Reflex 15 to keep on your feet)
"Welcome," says the ghost. "To the Odinjar Dreki! We set sail in the morn! Har!"
Oni Tuesday September 19th, 2006 10:11:11 PM
Oni spots a few people he has met before. Then he sees Vorelle.
"As The captain said welcome aboard. We are off to save the mans niece, or daughter. There are 4 young men below decks as well. Vorelle who are your companions? I am Oni for those who I have not met."
Standing before you is a short and stocky centaur. His skin is the color of a drow, with corresponding white hair. Strapped over his green dragonhide breastplate is a long bow, quiver of arrows and a great axe. He also has a large knapsack.
Olyn d20+5=23 Tuesday September 19th, 2006 10:24:57 PM
Landing deftly on the deck of the boat, I come to a stop about 15 feet from the translucent man. We go nowhere until questions are answered.

[OOC: I have unexpectedly been asked to work a lot of overtime this week. I will apologize in advance for what will likely be erratic posting.]
Vorelle easily keeps her feet as the swan-boat disappears. Worse than the nonmagic ones, then, she thinks as she looks about her.
"O-Oni?" she asks, seeing the druid on the ship. "B-b-b-but h-how---? Wh-wh-what---?"
Rose d20+8=12 Wednesday September 20th, 2006 2:38:54 AM
Rose spills on the deck and lands under someone "Hey get off me!" Rose says as she struggles to get up.
Vauhwyt and Mookie d20+11=28 Wednesday September 20th, 2006 8:03:02 AM
Still standing, Vauhwyt and Mookie keep concentrating on their Detect Undead and Detect Evil spells while continuing to hide (Spot DC 42 from last turn).
[OOC to Oni: Unless you can make a Spot DC 42, you do not see an elf zombie with a robotic undead pirate monkey on his shoulder. LOL!]

Theodore & Macaw d20+4=14 Wednesday September 20th, 2006 12:03:11 PM
It looks like Theodore might actually keep his feet as the boat goes out from under him, staggering forward to stabilize his balance. Unfortunately, Dietrich did not keep his feet and the large warrior's body serves as an unavoidable obstacle to the normally clumsy wizard who trips and lands with an "oof!"
Picking himself back up, he looks from the ghost to the centaur. What an odd couple, he thinks to himself.
The centaur seems polite enough, so the thin mage offers his name, "I'm Theodore. Pleased to meet you, Oni. How was it that you got here, if I may ask?"
DM Shegger d20=1 Wednesday September 20th, 2006 9:25:08 PM
The pirate ghost lets you all get back to your feet before addressing you. "Arr! It's me lass. She be kidnapped by me mortal enemy!" He turns about and shakes a fist in fury. "Hunnerds o' years!" He turns back to your group, teeth gritted. "Hunnerds!"
He steps off a few feet and seems to collect himself. "Yer gonna be the ones to save me lass. Me blood tells me so!"
Oni Wednesday September 20th, 2006 9:41:01 PM
Just as he was about to speak the Captain piped up.
Looking over to Theodore, "Theodore is it? Well met sir. I was trying to find Vorelle when the overpowering urge took upon me to come to the docks. I thought that may have been where she was. Upon arriving, 4 young men also stood waiting. We rowed out to this boat. And now your here. Hunting lass I guess we are."
Berlon - Air Walk, Owl's Wisdom, Eagle's Splendor d20+2=21 Wednesday September 20th, 2006 10:38:19 PM
The gnome is surprisingly able to keep his balance. (Reflex Save 21) He takes turns alternately nodding and shaking his head as the conversation unfolds, knowing better than to say anything, and simply tosses Mookie an imaginary Banana Flavored Metal Cracker.
Vauhwyt and Mookie Wednesday September 20th, 2006 11:21:30 PM
The liontaur in Zombie Elf form and the raven in Robotic Undead Monkey form continue to concentrate on their spells, hoping to detect evil and undead presences on the ship. While they do so, they are also hiding.
"Boss," whispers Mookie through a shared message spell, "Why aren't our spells working?"
"I dunno, Mookie," whispers Vauhwyt back. "Just keep concentrating and maybe they will kick in."
Vorelle Thursday September 21st, 2006 12:58:21 AM
Vorelle swallows and tries to forget that she is still on a boat. "Wh-wh-what e-enemy?" she asks the ghost.
Olyn Thursday September 21st, 2006 12:31:00 PM
Who? Where? How?
Vorelle, your dog, if you leave him he wont be there when we come back.
Dietrich Thursday September 21st, 2006 2:43:44 PM
After the ridiculous fall, Dietrich stands up and sees a centaur together with ghost. And he seems to know Vorelle. Dietrich thinks to himself: "Vorelle has always some strange acquaintancies..."
Listening to the ghost, Dietrich doesn´t feel at ease to simply greet them and go on. Undead dont´put him at ease.. He´ll wait for more information, letting the diplomats of the party talk.
Theodore & Macaw Thursday September 21st, 2006 9:23:19 PM

Vauhwyt Highlight to display spoiler: {The only undead you detect is the captain. You feel a strong aura about him. You detect no evil.}

He stomps about some more before speaking again. "I do be knowing where he's weighin' anchor, so ta speak. Me Dreki'll get us there in eight days. I do hope ye've all brought food n' water enough fer the trip. Har!"
Vauhwyt and Mookie d20+25=28 d20+25=34 Friday September 22nd, 2006 12:00:18 AM
Still masked and protected for minutes (tens of minutes, for some spells), Vauhwyt and Mookie explore the entire ship, top to bottom, keeping both silent and hiding in the Darkness that masks them.
Move silent 28, Hide 34.
They continue to concentrate on detecting evil and undead.
Rose Friday September 22nd, 2006 3:33:38 AM
Rose brushes herself off and speaks to the captain "Um sir, if it's been several hundred years your daughter is probably dead by now. And you should have let people know to bring food, we barely have enough for one day much less more than two weeks. How can anybody be expected to get your daughter back if they are dead or weakened by hunger and thirst?"
Berlon - Air Walk, Owl's Wisdom, Eagle's Splendor Friday September 22nd, 2006 10:24:41 AM
"Now, now, Rose, food and water is easy enough to come by, don't worry about that..."
Berlon turns to the captain.
"It's very odd. The tales in the city speak of a ghost ship that kidnaps children. I suppose this rival that took your daughter might be the same one that raids the city?"
"Fate certainly has a way, does it not, Captain..." the gnome trails off, obviously looking for the captain to introduce himself by name.
Theodore & Macaw Friday September 22nd, 2006 1:32:15 PM
Theodore feels a sudden clutch of fear when the captain informs them they'll be at sea for eight days. And I've only brought food enough for one day! he thinks to himself.
Then Berlon alleviates his excitement with an assurance not to worry about sustenance. Hmm. I wonder what exactly he means by that. He doesn't say anything out loud, knowing the gnome appreciates a little dramatic flourish from time to time.
"Would it be all right if I looked around a bit?" he asks the ghost captain.
Oni Friday September 22nd, 2006 5:51:57 PM
Oni watches the new group closely. Each one seems so different rom the other. Where is Vauhwyt he wonders. Weird they would have come without her.
Olyn Friday September 22nd, 2006 6:01:10 PM
Am I the only here with any lick of sense? We came out here to stop a ghost ship from raiding the city and kidnapping children and now we are contemplating going with strangers on a boat someplace else to find some ghosts' kid? And when asked questions this ghost is not very forthcoming and seems to say we have no choice. I do have a choice. I can cast a couple spells and swim back to the city.
I am tired of strangers dictating what I will or wont do. I am tired and need a break as do all of you yet we are thrust yet into a game of cat and mouse. I go noplace without answers and being asked for help, not being told to help.
Its all on you mister ghost. Answer the questions asked of you. Ask for help.
Or watch me leave.

Vauhwyt Highlight to display spoiler: {As you search about the ship, you don't notice any other undead nor do you detect any evil.
The ship seems to be a fairly normal longship. There's one ballista at the bow of the ship. It's rotted and broken, of no use now. Below decks, you find four sturdy young men conversing happily amongst themselves about the adventures they're sure to see on their journey.}
Above decks, the ghost captain continues speaking with the heroes. "Captain Fintan Finnliath," he responds to Berlon with a flourish. "An' there be no raids on yer city. Tis the call of adventure. A mix of the sea's nat'ral song and, I s'pose meself might be addin' a bit ta the song. Har!"
He stomps over to Oni, "This one, and four others below, felt that call. As ta leavin', ye've made a commitment ta me when ye stepped aboard me ship. Ta leave now'd be mutinous. I'd be hoping none o' ya be mutinous, now would ya?"
Any who try to leave run into an invisible, but very physical force keeping you from going over the rail or more than thirty feet above the ship. Any magical attempts to discover, or bypass the force, also fail without leaving any clue as to why.
BigTim to Loretta Saturday September 23rd, 2006 1:11:00 AM
I dont think to myself and post it. Not saying anyone here does but too many people do act on what someone posts that they are thinking.
Olyn Saturday September 23rd, 2006 1:17:50 AM
We did not come here of our own accord. We were on the water heading towards this vessel when you took it over, and dumped us uncerimoniously on board your deck. You said you arent here to raid the city yet you have taken us hostage. And erected a barrier to prevent us leaving. So know this. I will act as if I am a prisoner of war. And with all the powers inside me and through Wardd, I will destroy you, this boat and all who call you captain.
Dropping to my knees I begin praying, then looking straight at the Ghost I cast a spell. Centered on the middle of the ship. Consecrate.
Dietrich Saturday September 23rd, 2006 12:43:13 PM
Although Dietrich finds Olyn´s reaction a little exagerated, he agrees with the Cleric on the essence of the matter. He keeps his hands ready at the holy water flasks brought with him.
"I´m Dietrich the Bear, knight and swordmaster of the WIndbourne Hills, and can´t remember to have entered into your service at all, Cap. Finnliath! I´ve served for long enough under brave soldiers, to know what are the obligations of one!
You say it´s just the call of adventure that takes away youth of this City every century, withouth returning them? What happened to all the youths? Why is it nobody returns from your adventures?
If you speak truth, and are not an evil soul cursed to stay undead, doing evil to Dirt City and now to us, you better explain yourself."
Vorelle Sunday September 24th, 2006 1:33:55 PM
Vorelle looks unhappily toward the shore. Eight days. Champ will die without food or water. Or he will leave his post, driven by hunger and thirst, and then what will happen to him? Either way, she will never see her friend again.
And, she is stuck on a boat. She hates boats.
"L-l-let us g-g-g-g-go," she tells the Captain, without much hope of success.
Rose Sunday September 24th, 2006 3:01:47 PM "Why do you come every hundred years and take people away never to return? You're daughter is dead, you cant help her. Why steal other people's children?"
Rose says to the ghost
Berlon Monday September 25th, 2006 1:09:52 AM
With all the flurry of activity, the gnome tries his best to stay out of everyone's way. "I'm pretty sure we can talk him into picking up the dog," he mutters under his breath, "once we get finished doing... whatever it is we do..."
Vauhwyt Monday September 25th, 2006 3:36:30 PM
Vauhwyt continues to search the ship. What is in the captain's quarters? Where is the crew? Who is working the ines and the sails? Is there a crew quarters? Who is in it?
The liontaur continues to roam until she has seen it all.
Oni Monday September 25th, 2006 5:13:17 PM
Oni looks over to Vorelle. "you left Champ at the dock?"
Turning to the captain, "we need to get the dog on the dock captain. See there he is, we cannot go without him."
Theodore & Macaw Monday September 25th, 2006 8:45:42 PM
Theodore quickly scoots out of the way as things start snowballing. He looks to head into a door, going down into the ship.
DM Shegger Monday September 25th, 2006 9:27:37 PM
Vauhwyt Highlight to display spoiler: {Everything appears fairly normal for a longhsip of this caliber. Really, the only difference would be the age of the implements on the ship. The items in the captain's quarters are rotted and ancient, of no practical use anymore.
The rest of your search reveals no trace of anyone aboard other than the four youths from before and your friends above deck.}
Olyn is legitimately upset concerning their imprisonment on the ship. As he drops to his knees to cast a spell.
At first, it looks like Captain Finnliath will attack the cleric of Wardd. His already ghastly face contorts into rage and he advances a step towards the kneeling half-elf.
He stops when the consecrate spell initiates. His form wavers slightly and his visage calms. "It's not only me. It were the man 'oo took me daughter. Sumthin' happened. Powers and emotions. Magic. It shuddered the timbers o' me ship and destroyed me body. I swore revenge, and felt the curse clamp tight on me ship."
His form flickers again. "Even if I wanted ta let ye go, I could not. I've been killt afore, if'n it can be called as such. It does not matter. I come back, and ye cannae leave the ship. It's yer choice lubbers. Ye can fight me til yer blue in the face. Or ye can save yer strength for the real test."

Go. Find food. Take care. I will come back when I can.
She keeps concentrating, eyes closed, reaching for some kind of signal tha Champ understood her.

rose has dried apples, jerky, dried beef sausage, crackers, and candy with her. The tea, honey, oatmeal, flour, sugar, and spices were left behind as she didnt expect to be gone for more than a day.
Vauhwyt Tuesday September 26th, 2006 4:45:39 PM
Vauhwyt finds an isolated spot and whispers to her friends via her previously cast Message spells:
This place is dead. No crew. No cargo, Nothing of worth. Nothing of note. An empty shell. HOWEVER, there is no evil aboard! The only undead is the captain. There are four other recruits in the ship -- they are raw noobs, so far as I can tell.
She asks her friends if they have found anything out. What do they want to do? It has occurred to her that they could burn the ship to ashes. That might not leave them in a very good position, though.
She does think that helping the captain and breaking his curse will probably solve the problem of the ghost ship returning every hundred years ... and satisfy their contract, most likely.
Berlon Tuesday September 26th, 2006 6:22:39 PM
"The contract won't be an issue. Unless, of course, someone steals or smashes the boat once Vorelle's pet wanders off in search of a meal..."

the Captain had ignored his plea to rescue the abandoned dog. Sad really. Althogh he was sure the dog would take care of itself, if needed. So, with the others clamoring on about their needs he looks to the captain and asks,
"Captain, good sir, please tell us about our journey to come. Better yet, you have made this journey before, maybe you could enlighten us on what we have to expect. Like who is to be our enemy? What tactics have been used in the past that have failed? Anything that you would find of import."
Olyn Tuesday September 26th, 2006 9:07:31 PM
With a look of complete disgust on his face I walk over to the aft of the vessel. Leaning on his elbows and watching the water splash against the hull of the boat I mutter to myself.
Theodore & Macaw Tuesday September 26th, 2006 9:28:35 PM Hey, Vauhwyt! I don't think I've ever told you, but I really like this spell. It's pretty nifty. Theodore neglects to communicate any pertinent information, though. Ah well, I'm sure Vauhwyt's used to it, by now.
Theodore explores the ship, looking specifically for Vauhwyt or the other four on the ship.
DM Shegger Tuesday September 26th, 2006 10:00:15 PM
Theodore walks about below decks, he discovers the room with the four youths. They introduce themselves enthusiastically and the wizard gets drawn into a conversation.
Above decks, the ghost turns to Oni. "Ah, laddie! The problem that eats me up as much as the loss o' me daughter! I cannae leave me ship, ye see!" He shakes his ghostly head. "I'm more trapped than ye all! I can only take ye from here ta there."
"None that I've taken ta the island have returned. I can only wait an mourn their loss. Tha bastard that took me daughter is an ugly thing, with squid arms coming from his face. Evil as sin! Not a soul'd miss tha bastard after ya take 'im out!"
The captain looks up to the sky as the rain continues to fall through his ghostly form. "Will be a lovely day fer sailing, I'm sure. Ye all should get yer sleep. Will be several hard days o' sailing ahead o' us! Yer quarters are below."

Vauhwyt Tuesday September 26th, 2006 10:22:12 PM
Vauhwyt's spells are starting to expire, and it seems that the party's choices are limited.
She sheds her disguise and her darkness, a little disgusted at the uselessness of all the expendable magic she has now wasted. Ah, well.
She listens to the Ghost Captain and introduces herself. She also says hi to the centaur and the four swabbies.
But as she listens to the Captain's description of the foe, and as she begins to empathize with him as to the fate of his poor daughter, she begins to feel some obligation.
"Maybe, just maybe, we were meant to be herre," she says to the Captain and to her friends. Her accent, and a certain look in her eyes, reveals an inner revelation.
"Maybe we were sent here to satisfy your honor, Captain," the liontaur says. "You have been wronged. You have suffered. You desire satisfaction and closurre."
She pauses a moment and mutters a prayer. If you can make a Listen DC12 check, then Highlight to display spoiler: {Vauhwyt says, "Oh, Holy Motherr, guide me to do the right thing."}
Then, standing straight and determined, she says, "Captain, you have been wronged, and you have suffered! You deserve satisfaction and vengeance! I swear by the lady of the spider that I will do my best to give you satisfaction, or die trying! That is my duty and my oath!"
Then she asks the ghost quietly, "Is there any chance that you have a token from your enemy? A lock of hair? A weapon or cloth stained with his blood? Anything like that?"
Dietrich d20+4=5 d20+7=18 d20+4=5 Wednesday September 27th, 2006 8:44:24 AM
Although the Captain didn´t take notice of his contestation, and Dietrich still doesn´t trust the story completely, there´s nothing to be done and maybe it´s like Vauhwyt says. At least there´s no clear evil on board.
He´ll go under deck to protect himself from the rain, and takes a closer look at the "crew", mustering them for their military (equipment, age, experience) and human quality: military knowledge 5; Sense motive 18
He also muster the ship closer: carpentry 5
Olyn Wednesday September 27th, 2006 9:54:14 AM
Walks over to the ghost.
Now, if we are going to risk our lives to help you, our captor, you will tell me Exactly what happened in regards to your kid and those who were forced to serve on this ship. Leave absolutely and I mean Absolutely no detail untold. And tell me about this curse you said you are under. All of it. I want to hear no lies or as Wardd is my witness, this ship and all aboard will not make it to your destination.
Oni Wednesday September 27th, 2006 5:53:20 PM
Oni hears the elfzombie thing speak of revenge and rtetyibution, so he sticks out his chest, pride filling him. As the elf guy repeats the same he has asked from the captain, Oni moves to allow the captain to address the elf.
Theodore & Macaw Wednesday September 27th, 2006 9:02:40 PM
Theodore greets Dietrich when his friend meets up with the four others below decks. "Hi, Dietrich. What's going on up above? Are we going or staying?"
DM Shegger Wednesday September 27th, 2006 9:31:50 PM
Vauhwyt swears an oath to help the captain exact his revenge. The ghost's face drops for a moment, appearing human and...sad?
"The return o' me daughter be more important than the killin' o' the fiend. If'n ya can do both, then I won't be poutin'."
"I ain't got nothin' o' his, lassie," he replies to Vauhwyt.
When Olyn approaches the ghost captain with demands that he reveal his story, the ghost chuckles. "You do be an uppity one, ain'tcha?"
"We made berth on a small island, hiding from a storm. Me crew, daughter, and meself went onta tha island. Tha bastard attacked us so fiercely we had no choice but ta run back ta tha ship. He slaughtered me crew along the way, and snatched me daughter right offa the ship. I tried ta pursue but he blasted me dead."
"Tha curse, I donnae how it came about. It didnae feel like any magic. I jes 'member how angry and afeard I was. An' the power o' the bastard! I donnae..."
Below decks, the four youths identify themselves as Sharif, Thorir, Arngrim, and Leo. Dietrich decides they should be able to handle themselves in a tight situation, though not on the level that his group of friends could.

Berlon Wednesday September 27th, 2006 10:44:56 PM
The gnome listens intently to the captain's story, although he doesn't say much. If and when the need arises, he will make sure to memorize Create Food and Water each day, just to make sure no one goes without.
Other than that, Berlon keeps strangely to himself as the boat moves onward...
Vorelle Thursday September 28th, 2006 12:00:31 AM
A ghost captain, four strangers, water all around. Vorelle tries to work out which of these is the least unpalatable, then gives up and sticks as closely to Vauhwyt or Dietrich as she can. From time to time, she still looks wistfully towards the shore.
Dietrich d20+4=10 Thursday September 28th, 2006 8:19:49 AM
Dietrich returns Theos greeting and tells the mage that the party will stay and try to help to unmake the curse.
Happy to be out of the heavy rain, the warrior takes some beverage from his stuff and offers it to Theo and the four youths, presenting himself (hopefully the guys know the party as heroes and will be willing to integrate/obey).
Diplomacy: 10 "Hail! So, what brings you to this &¨%&¨$ cursed ship? I´m Dietrich the Bear, and you probably already know Theodore the Wise, disciple of the great master Geoffrey (?) Here, have some of this stuff, it could even make this undead captain wake up again."
He also asks them about the centaur guy upstairs.
Oni Thursday September 28th, 2006 5:13:53 PM
Oni enjoys the feeling of rain upon his body. Sea rain was not as invigorating as a good forest diluge, but still refreshing. The others seemed to be having problems wrapping thir brains and efforts around the problem at hand. He would allow them their space. They would come to him when they were ready.
Spotting the gnome by himself, Oni waves a friendly hand at him.
Vauhwyt Thursday September 28th, 2006 5:17:44 PM
Vauhwyt nods and paces.
Mookie says, "What mess are we in now, Boss?"
"Darned if I know," says Vauhwyt.
Theodore & Macaw Thursday September 28th, 2006 9:40:03 PM
Theodore is glad to see the youths in such high spirits. "Well, so far, it hasn't been what I expected. Just a little bit of gloom and doom. I suppose we should get ready for a sea trip."
Theodore gathers up his gear and looks for an empty cot, or if not one, just some vacant space.
DM Shegger Thursday September 28th, 2006 9:55:21 PM
Below decks, Dietrich and Theodore make nice with the recruits. Looking about, the pair find the quarters are pretty close. There's not much room for personal space. Only two rooms with three bunk beds in each (twelve bed total).
Above, the party comes to a majority decision to support Captain Finnliath. "I thank ye all fer yer help. Now, get some rest. Ye'll be needin' it." With that said, the captain gives a sweeping bow and vanishes. "I'll see ye all tomorra!"
Olyn Friday September 29th, 2006 1:35:56 AM
Begins a search of the vessel. Will take my time looking in every nook and cranny. When asked what I am doing my response is always the same. If we are to be forced to do someones fighting, I am going to see what we have available to me and my companions to assist us in that endeavor.
I search everywhere, including what would of been or still is the Captains' quarters.
<*> I take 20 on everything, since I am sure I have plenty of time to search thoroughly, including secret and hidden compartments, making my search rolls a 23. <*>
Rose Saturday September 30th, 2006 3:07:11 AM
Rose will claim a room for the girls, and luckily she keeps her camping gear in her bag of holding as it isnt needed at the apartment. She'll fix up one of the bunks with her feather mattress, sheets, and a blanket, but no pillow as she forgot to put it in the bag.
If he needs it Rose will let Berlon use her bedroll and fur lined sleeping bag, she'll also let some of the others use her extra blankets (blankets are medium size.)
Rose will then set down to wait out the next seven days, she'll start out by asking Theo "Theo, can I borrow your spellbook? I accidently brought supplies to add pages to my book and so I thought it would give me something to do."
Theodore & Macaw Saturday September 30th, 2006 3:17:54 PM
Theodore claims one of the cots and beds down for the night. In the morning, he goes above decks to look at the sea. If it's still raining, he'll only stay for a moment.
DM Shegger Saturday September 30th, 2006 4:52:29 PM
The night passes without incident. With the coming of morning, all those who go to the main deck find the weather has calmed. The boat creaks gently in the rolling waters. All about, thick fog keeps you from seeing very far. The city is invisible from your current location.
As you are all surveying the scene before you, a strength and knowledge seeps into your very being.
The ghost of the captain appears. "Now, lubbers! Tis a hard day's work fer ya, taday!"
Then he starts stamping about barking orders. With the spirit of some long dead sailor in your blood, you all begin to run here and there, tugging on ropes, raising and lowering sails, manning the wheel, and various other tasks. No one is left idle for half the day. You also find that the labor is not disheartening. In fact, it's very enjoyable as you sail across the oceans. The weather is beautiful, the sun is warm, the wind is strong enough to keep the ship moving, and the skies are a deep blue.
As dusk comes upon the ship, the captain bids you to rest for the night. "I ken steer us fer the rest o' the day. Eat an' git some sleep fer tomorra!"
The day has taken its toll on you. You feel tired, but the kind of tired where you know you've put in a good day's work. With a good night's sleep, you'll be ready for the next day.
Olyn Highlight to display spoiler: {Assuming you wanted to get eight hours of sleep last night, you only had time enough to search the captain's quarters. You found nothing of interest. Normal things you would find in such a place. No hidden compartments or secret doors, either.}

Oni Sunday October 1st, 2006 9:58:14 PM
Whenever working hand in hand with other group members, he talks about the challenge to come. Has anyone ever heard of the monster that the captain explained?
Dietrich Monday October 2nd, 2006 8:05:51 AM
Although Dietrich doesn´t like to be posessed like that, he quite enjoys the work, his muscles being put to use and the freedom of the see (particularly comparing with being undergroud in Dirt City).
The warrior will stay near Oni, sharing his ideas and experiences with the centaur, and asking questions in return. He ´s never heard about that monster before, and he´d like the captain to answer the questions made about it too.
Berlon - OOC Monday October 2nd, 2006 11:15:20 AM
OOC: One one hand, I think Shegger was speaking metaphorically, talking about the spirit of some sailor in the blood. I hope we don't have to fight a gazebo.
On the other hand, I can't really see any scenario that involves Berlon doing any sort of labor on the ghost ship, so maybe it's best if we go with the literal "possessed" option.
Vorelle Monday October 2nd, 2006 7:39:37 PM
The sun is shining, the wind is fresh, no dirt filters through the air to land on hair, skin, and clothing. Vorelle finds she quite enjoys that part.
On the other hand, they are far out to sea, on a boat, with land but a distant memory behind them. Vorelle hates that part.
So, with all due respect to the GM and the spirit of the departed sailor, Vorelle is not entirely enjoying herself. When she works hard, she can forget she's on a boat; however, working hard also brings up blisters on hands unaccustomed to such tasks. At the end of the day, Vorelle is glad to leave the world of water and ropes and water and sails and boats and water, and try to figure out how to tend her own hurts with her healer's kit.
Theodore & Macaw Monday October 2nd, 2006 9:01:40 PM
Theodore enjoys the hard work. Something his body's not used to. He also enjoys spending the day on the sea.
At night, he plops down on his cot to rest his tired body. If Berlon provides food, he accepts with a thank you. If not, he has rations for one day. He tries to parcel it out over a few days.
He also lets Rose borrow his spellbook. "Sorry, Rose. I guess I'm a little protective of my magic. I apologize."
OOC - Will send Loretta an email with spells.

Dietrich Tuesday October 3rd, 2006 8:08:14 AM
Dietrich wants to get it done, so he gives his best at work and keeps enjoying it.
The warrior continues to talk with the others to exchange information. At night, he asks Olyn about his discoveries and eats the divine rations provided by Berlon.
If they can, he´ll have some beers with the youths, and play cards.
Berlon Tuesday October 3rd, 2006 3:57:24 PM
In between doing whatever needs to be done, Berlon will take the time to cast Create Food and Water. It conjures up clean water, as well as something that looks like a cross between oatmeal and mashed potatoes. At least it's more than enough for everyone.
(OOC: CF&W is 3 humans or one horse per level, so it should make plenty, regarless of what Vauhwyt, er, counts as, right?)
"If anyone has any non-perishable food, save it for the last day of the trip so I don't have to use a spell. Any volunteers?"

She also asks Berlon if he could spare a cure for Vorelle's hands.
Oni Tuesday October 3rd, 2006 5:07:10 PM
Standing at the front of the ship, Oni enjoys the air blowing on his skin. Hope. Yes it seemed that he was full of hope. All could be good.
Fiding Dietrich above ships he asks him about the fellow companions. Afterwords Oni makes a point of talking to each member of the party. Discussions include history, values, and tactics on any strife that would come up. Dirt City is also a major topic, he wants to know as much about the city as possible.
Theodore & Macaw Tuesday October 3rd, 2006 9:38:01 PM
Theodore is eager to help the captain. He really enjoys working on the ship. He also tries to speak with Oni, as the centaur appears friendly and eager to get to know his friends.
Macaw joins Mookie in the Crow's Nest, enjoying the scenery.
DM Shegger Tuesday October 3rd, 2006 10:10:02 PM Day 2
Everyone save Olyn decides to help out on the ship for the coming days. The weather holds, and the crew enjoys another day at sea. Save for the physical labor, everything seems right.
Thorir starts to sing a bawdy song familiar to those from Dirt City. His lyrics are loud and off key, but the other three men quickly join in. Spirits are riding high throughout the day.
When evening begins to fall, Captain Finnliath seems to become more tangible. "Ah, lubbers! Another good day o' work! I'll be takin' over fer the night, don't ye be worryin'! Eat an' drink an' be merry!"
"This is the greatest," says Sharif, clapping Arngrim on the shoulder as they march below decks.
"Yep," agrees Leo, smiling broadly. "It's everything I expected. I can't wait to rescue the daughter. No doubt I'll be the one to put my blade between the monster's ribs." The other three chuckle.
"What about you, Dietrich?" asks Arngrim. "I've heard many stories about you and your group. You need to take a name for yourselves, though. Make it easier to relay stories"
"Yeah." Sharif nods his head. "Like the Dirties. Ooh, or the Black Bird Gang, seeing as you have a bunch of 'em."
Below decks, Berlon conjures up a satisfying meal for everyone. The four youths are very thankful to the gnome, quite interested in his magic. Leo is even interested in finding out about Berlon's deity.
Olyn Highlight to display spoiler: {You discover the captain keeps no log. Or if he did, it has long since rotted away. Going over his cabin again, you find no new details.}
Vauhwyt and Mookie Tuesday October 3rd, 2006 11:25:32 PM
Mookie enjoys bantering with the four swabbies. "Yup, I keep telling the Boss we should call ourselves the Black Bird Gang, but the ones who don't have black bird friends are jealous and keep saying no."
Meanwhile, in private, Vauhwyt whispers to her friends, "Guys, this ghost ship has been coming to Dirt City every hundred years for a while, right? So what do we do if the Captain's daughter is long dead, as I expect? What if his foe is dead too? Just food for thought."
Dietrich Wednesday October 4th, 2006 8:37:45 AM
Dietrich is glad to exchange ideas with Oni and tells him about the adventures the party´s had. He´s quite curious to know about Oni, what he does and where he´s from.
The warrior also enjoys telling the youth´s about their glorious deeds. But listening to them, he worries and wonders how many of them will get out of this task alive. The knight makes a silent prayer to Domi for them.
He goes over to Olyn and asks his budy about any discoveries made that could help the party. What does the captain´s log tell about this ship, its crew, the daughter and the monster? Also, he pleads the cleric to join the comrades in the workload tomorrow.
Concerning Vauhwyt´s comment, Dietrich is thoughtful. He guesses the daughter is already a ghost too, maybe breaking the curse involves freeing her too.
Vorelle Wednesday October 4th, 2006 9:18:51 AM
When the talk turns to fighting, Vorelle flexes her blistered hands under the table. After days of hauling on ropes, will she even be able to fire her bow?
"Th-the Order of the L-Loose C-C-C-Cannon," she murmurs with a smile, when the others start to talk about a group name.
Vauhwyt and Mookie Wednesday October 4th, 2006 11:17:27 AM
Vauhwyt laughs at Vorelle's suggestion. " 'The Loose Cannons'! I like that!" she says. "And Mookie can be a BB Gun."
The bird caws in delight. "The BB stands for Black Bird!"
Then the raven cocks his head quizzically. "Hey Boss?"
"Uh huh," says Vauhwyt.
"What's a 'cannon'? What's a 'gun'?"
"Hmmm ... umm .... Shoot! I dunno!"
Oni Wednesday October 4th, 2006 1:01:22 PM
Since Dietrich asks him about his past he recites his story above decks. Everyone should be able to hear, he does so when Olyn peeks out for some fresh air, during his ruminations.
"I set out from the Centaur islands with my fathers merchant ship. I was aboard to help protect the cargo. I really liked the fight back then. Well as luck would have it, we were shipwrecked. Only a few of us lived, and found oursaelves lost. Alas, a raiding party of filthy Drow came upon us. Captives we all were.
"Because of my stature, I was assigned to a lumber getting group. We would leave the caves for some days, to return with lumber. It was during one of those foraysa an ambush killed the Drow, saving 2 of us. The ambushers were a collective group of druids that invested their lives fighting the Drow incursion in their land. I signed on to help the cause.
"Several years later, i was approached by a cleric of Jancassis. Since I had be terribly wronged in the past, seemed like a good fit for worship. It was decided that I should leave and explore the world, the land having been alliviated of Drow for some time. The cleric suggested Dirt City as a begining spot. There I would learn of some city life, yet close to the frontier as well.
"So, the cleric gave me some odd blessing and I was off. On the voyage to Dirt City, my coat and hair, my essence changed. Now look at me, i now look like my hated enemy. The Gods have strange ways, no? One thing is for sure, I will never forgive the Drow."
Berlon Wednesday October 4th, 2006 1:30:17 PM
The gnome is a little surprised at the reaction his conjuration brings, as the foodstuffs are extremely plain tasting. Obviously the sailors haven't had a proper meal in many a moon.
He walks over to Vorelle and smiles slightly. He strokes his twin beards slightly as he looks at her overused hands. A quick flash of deep red covers them as the gnome uses one of his healing cantrips. He will then look to see if any more assistance is needed. (0 level spell heals 1 hp)
When he sees that Leo seems interested in his magics, Berlon takes a few moments to speak with him. "In many ways, I have always felt that Alemi is one of the most misunderstood dieties. Most people are aware of the nature of healing..."
Using Prestidigitation (gnome spell-like ability) he makes a small, red lily appear as he speaks.
"Alemi is always there in times of need, to help those in pain. There are even those who follow the Path of healing, and devote their whole lives to easing the suffering of others."
As he speaks, a discoloration appears at the top of the stem of the flower. The flower then starts to droop and whither slightly.
"Those are the ones that are there to heal the wound."
With those words the flower seems to grow stronger, even though the discoloration remains.
"On the other hand, there are those that strive to not just heal the damage, but to cure the disease. Much of the Wold needs Fixing, and Alemi also enlightens those that choose to follow that path."
Suddenly the top of the flower disappears, as if it were cut off just below the discoloration. After a few moments the flower starts regrowth, and eventually blooms again.
As this minor light show is going on, Berlon quietly moves away, towards Oni.
"I do not know much about your past, and wouldn't claim to be in a position to give you advice," he says quietly to Oni.
"But," he says, barely above a whisper, "when it comes to the City..." he pauses slightly, "you have been given poor advice."
Theodore & Macaw Wednesday October 4th, 2006 9:39:37 PM
Theodore is saddened by Oni's tale. "I'm sorry, friend. Life can be difficult."
Theodore also thanks Berlon for the food and water. "It might be bland, but I think we're all pretty used to as much, by now. You know, with all the rations we eat. Because we're on the road all the time. You know?"
He's more than slightly surprised that Vorelle made a joke. "Cannon fodder?! Hah!" He smiles widely at her for a moment. The grin slowly drops, his brow following. "Wait. I'm confused."
DM Shegger Wednesday October 4th, 2006 9:57:08 PM Day 3
The conversation is light-hearted as the second day at sea draws to a close.
Oni discloses a quick summation of his life to his new friends. "Wow," Sharif says sadly. He pats the centaur on his shoulder. "My life's been pretty decent, save for a few bumps and bruises. I'm hoping this will make things more exciting."
In another part of the room, Berlon gives a short lesson, along with visual aids, to an interested Leo. When the gnome has finished, Leo extends his hand for shaking. "Thank you. I hope you don't mind if I pick your brain on the topic every now and then."
The next day, there are a few clouds on the horizon. A few drizzles cross over the ship as you all scamper about. But nothing major. The four youngsters quickly take to song, and everyone seems to be getting into a good rhythm.
Again the day ends, and everyone troops below decks as Finnliath takes over. Sharif grins widely as he takes a full skin. "Mead." He takes a swallow and passes it along.
Olyn Thursday October 5th, 2006 1:42:27 AM
Since staying below during the day, looking for clues and answers through prayer, and finding none, and am well rested when the others come down, I will take a chair upstairs and on deck, and sit with the captain and talk. She listens to Oni's tale with her eyes downcast, very still. It's hard to know what she might be thinking.
The next evening, she watches the skin of mead warily, but does not drink from it.
Theodore & Macaw Thursday October 5th, 2006 9:44:54 PM

Over the next few days, the schedule is pretty much the same. You work hard, and you spend your evenings talking and enjoying yourself. The gentle sea rocks you to sleep at night.
The evening of the seventh day at sea, Captain Finnliath has a stern look about him. "The sea be telling me we're within two days o' the island. I'd be preparin' yerselves."
OOC - Spellcasters, let me know what spells you're memorizing/praying for the coming couple of days.
Berlon Thursday October 5th, 2006 11:40:54 PM
The gnome will continue to provide the magically created food for everyone, reminding all who have it so save some for the last day.
He will also talk to Leo whenever he has any questions about Alemi. He won't actively pursue the subject matter, but will gladly offer any insights he can.
OOC: Spells to follow
Oni Thursday October 5th, 2006 11:58:20 PM
As the trip seems to be coming to an end, he talks to the 4 young men about their fighting skills. It will be important to know what they expect of the battle to come. After listening to Dietrich, oni is confident he will come up with a good strategy.
OOC Spells later, Olyn I will sub for you, remind me of the dates.
Vauhwyt and Mookie Friday October 6th, 2006 7:39:00 AM
[OOC: Gosh Darn Missed a Post! Sorry!]
Vauhwyt doesn't think too much about getting ready. She is as ready as she ever will be.
She asks the Captain if he will be coming along. And what will they see when they get there?
Dietrich Friday October 6th, 2006 8:26:34 AM
Dietrich listened to Oni´s story and is again reminded of the hardship and struggle that is life in the Wold. On the other hand, those struggles have made Oni a valuable piece in the fight against evil.
Dietrich wants to know the four youth´s abilities in more detail, so as to find a place for them in the overall operations.
As firtst proposals for the debate, he suggests:
"When we reach the island, I´d say that we send first a smaller, sneakies scouting party, with divine abbilities to discover undead. Also, with the ability to magically scan the near surroundings. Finally, this scouting party should find a good place for a camp.
After that, the main party lands and we build up camp at the choosen place, as there´s the possibility that we-ll take some time to solve the mistery."
Vauhwyt Friday October 6th, 2006 10:34:18 AM
The liontaur is a little nerv ous or hesitant around the new Taur. Belatedly, she walks up to him and holds out a hand. "Hi. It is good to have you aboard. We must trade stories and talk more when we get back to Dirt City."
Vayhwyt laughs at Dietrich's words about sneakign around to scout for undead. "I tried that when we approached the boat, with dismal results! But hey! Fool me once! I'm game to try again!"
Vorelle Friday October 6th, 2006 7:41:39 PM
As usual, Vorelle is largely silent during her remaining time on the ship. As she gradually gets accustomed to the four youths, she stops avoiding them like demonic lepers and is content with avoiding them like regular lepers.
She volunteers to help scout the island, and especially to help find a good camping spot.
Theodore & Macaw Friday October 6th, 2006 9:46:56 PM
Theodore begins to feel the rising excitement and fear that comes when adventure looms. Not that he hadn't been riding high on adrenaline these past few days, already.
He takes the captain's warning to heart. In the morning, he begins memorizing spells he thinks would be beneficial to the party.
Dietrcih begins a discussion on what to do when they reach the island. Theodore listens intently. When he gets a chance to speak, he says, "It might be hard to take our enemies by surprise when we arrive in such a large ship. Just a thought."
