Valdor Saturday October 28th, 2006 1:29:21 AM
Valdor chuckles at Cori's words. He keeps it to himself, though. Nodding to the captain's observations he says into his earring,"Ve, I really hate the idea of splitting up the group again. It's bad enough to have you two so far away with a black dragon possibly around somewhere. If they join us great, if not, we may be fighting them.
We have to get some wind here, or Cori, can those elementals help push us along without destroying the ship? We have a spot located, but there's not much wind to get us there and we need to make haste."
He locates Falin and tells him quickly,"Falin, we are making for shore. Make sure those archers of yours are ready to depart the boat in their groups and then spread out to cover us as we exit. Have your scouts ready to head out once we make land. I want to know what kind of landscape we have, any natural hindrances like fissures, rivers, and such in all directions.
Hr searches out the Ailsidurian clerics, who have stayed strangely out of the way on the ship and asks,"Can any of you summon a wall of stone that's thick enough for several people to walk on, but not so heavy it would topple a ship? We may need such depending on how close to shore the captain gets us. Plus, I don't know how involved you plan to be if there is a major fight and I need to know now where you stand."
Lian AC 37, hps 88/88 Saturday October 28th, 2006 10:53:25 AM
The monk makes for Falin's side. "Perhaps I should accompany the archers as well, seeing as how they may need melee support. What do you say Falin?" "What do you think about those clouds Valdor? Heirophant setting us up for a hurricane or tidal wave?" Smiles the much. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Gunther Saturday October 28th, 2006 10:35:10 PM
Gunther looks disgruntled as Falin approaches. "Hmmmph." The warrior pauses for a few minutes. Though he looks like he wants to talk, he just stands there, apparently thinking...which is a feat in and of itself for the cat trainer. He looks at Falin...then K'nara...then at Falin again. "You..." Gunther grits his teeth. Normally he would settle this little manner of honor with a nice solid punch to the jaw. But that was not the elven way...not K'nara's way. Gunther lets out his breath is slow puffs, trying to reign in his temper. He rethinks the "battle", tossing the matter over in his slow processor. He had taken to air...the magician was his...and then those showy archers had shot him down before he could even take a swing. His brothers laughing at him...and then K'nara asking him to take part in an important assignment, which he can't complete because he'd wasted the magic of his armor in a battle where he couldn't even dirty his sword. Gunther looks away, kicks the deck with a final puff of breath and then looks back. No matter what he says, he's pretty sure it's not going to come out right. He looks at Falin's chest as he speaks. "It's noting. Don't vorry about it." Feeling mildly confused by the whole situation, Gunther excuses himself and heads over to the orcs, making sure that they're ready for landfall when it occurs.
OOC: Jamie, Falin really hasn't done anything other than bruise Gunther's tender orcish ego. No big, just some fun. :)
Lian Sunday October 29th, 2006 8:19:34 AM
The monk smirks at Falin. "Careful, they eat their enemies hearts."
Corialote [spell resistance: SR 34] and Amarth Sunday October 29th, 2006 9:21:29 PM
Seeing as how her water elementals should remain around for at least a little longer she will instruct them to gently guide the ships to the area indicated by Valdor. "Valdor...you should be getting some assistance for the movement of your ships." Looking to Ve she nods her head. "They should be gone in a few, but at least this way we get just a little more use out of them." She is ready to move out when Ve is.
Amarth lands back on his Mistress's shoulder as he does not like all the work involved in flying at this time. He likes it when he can ride the winds a little and ease his own work to stay aloft.

Valdor Monday October 30th, 2006 12:28:16 AM
Valdor looks to where Lian is indicating and replies,"I don't know, but I don't like the looks of it. I have no idea of the power of those we face, but they would have to have at least a wizard or two that were fairly powerful. We need to move it. I have no desire to be on a ship if it is some kind of hurricane or tidal wave. Do what you can to help the exodus from this ship. It appears the captain of the other ship has let Ve convince him to follow us as well."
He replies to Cori then,"That's awesome. We have some kind of storm approaching and we need to get to shore quickly. Keep an eye on it. You and Ve don't need to be up in the air when it hits, if it hits."

K'Nara d20=11 Monday October 30th, 2006 7:24:36 PM
K'Nara watches Gunther move off, genuinely puzzled as to why he's angry and frustrated. She resolves to try to pep up his spirits later.
The blade singer then strains her brain in an attempt to try to figure out where the ships may be--it might give a clue as to what "city" the troops had been recruited to save.
(OOC: Making an Intelligence roll--result is 11. However, if this a "fabled land" (i.e. magic place of any sort), then you can add K'Nara's Knowledge [arcana] ranks to it: +9.)

Olana Tuesday October 31st, 2006 1:02:22 AM
Olana listens to Valdor's instructions, hoping that those weird-looking clerics can come up with something. She didn't fancy having to send the horses overboard, although she knew they could swim quite well.

Hearing about the storm out in the lake, Nick goes in search of Dahlia. Something was tickling at his memory.

DM Jan Tuesday October 31st, 2006 1:45:18 AM
((Come on, you horrible lot, I didn't give you the day off. Get posting. ;) ))
Valdor finds the Brothers Ga'al huddled together at the starboard side of the ship, just below the poop deck. "We would be glad to be of assistance," says Brother Michael. "If there is stone at the shore, I'm sure we can mould it into something."
Below deck, the elves are quiet but busy, getting organised via hand signals, in order to disembark as quickly as possible.
K'Nara has a good look around. The immediate area is beautiful, there's no doubt about that, and the distant mountains cut quite an impressive skyline. it would probably be a nice place to live - arable land by the looks of it, onshore - and plenty of fish! But it looks quite uncultivated. Untouched by civilization, except for the camp on shore. There's no magic 'feel' to this shoreline, either, and really - all she has to go off, is the original prophecy. Was it as simple as that? If it was - then there's no sign of it.
Gunther finds Borden gathering his men, and he gets a nod of inclusion into the group. (Orcish) "Providing the water is deep enough, and there's a decent shore, I've no qualms about riding the horses into the water. Those of you who can't swim - use the horse. It'll get you to shore if you don't panic." There's some unease and cursing about the whole idea, but - if it has to be done...
And so!
All three ships change course and start toward the headland. Coming around it gives everyone a good look at the immediate territory. Here it hasn't been flattened and cannibalized by the encampment further north. Sandy shore (No stone.) Green meadow and patches of trees. The headland is a small hill that creates a barrier between everyone and the encampment. At ground level, they can't see you. You can't see them.
A subtly unnatural current brings the ships into shore, until -
"We can't take her any further in," says the first mate. "She'll run aground, but we have four row boats." He hesitates, then rubs his arms. "Why do I feel like someone's walked over my grave?" he asks.
And there it is suddenly - distant, but gradually growing - DRAGONFEAR! Ever so slowly it starts to sink into everyone's bones.
MEANWHILE!
Up in the sky, Ve and Cori can see the ships change course and sail around the headland in the distance behind them. Ahead, there is a slight flash of silver amongst the distant cloud and thunder.
((Okay, I need some SPOT checks from you two.))
Everyone else, you have to disembark, in a hurry, I suspect. SPOT checks, and reconaissance checks (Survival etc etc) - roll 'em.
In the meantime, I'll have a map ready for you, Tuesday night.
K'Nara Tuesday October 31st, 2006 9:46:03 AM
K'Nara frowns thoughtfully.
"Looks like it will be bath-time for the hor--" she begins to say, then the spine-shiver moment with the new first mate interrupts. The chestnut-maned woman wheels around, scanning the sky as she recognizes the effect for what it is (thanks to unwanted audiences with Parnoth.)
"Everybody, MOVE!!!" K'Nara bellows. "We have to get off the ship, onto shore and under cover--NOW!!!"
Ve Mundr d20+16=22 d20+14=15 Tuesday October 31st, 2006 12:32:49 PM
All three ships were moving together, that was good. "Well Cori I would think we did quite well. Two more vessels not on the opponents side and all. That is most definately nota natural storm and as exciting as I'm sure taking this carpet into it would be. I think returning tand setting down on the shore to be order of the moment." With that Ve commands the carpet down and towards the shoreline the ships are headed into.
[Spot 22, Know arcana 15 on the storm]
Mordrid (Protection from Electricity) Tuesday October 31st, 2006 2:10:25 PM
Mordrid takes to the air again. Making sense of the dragon fear, he shouts at those below, "Ground the #$%^& ship! The boat was made to serve one purpose, and it has! Let's get ashore!"
"Valdor, the horses have water-walk."
The ranger flies up and out, between the beach and the ship. He casts PROTECTION FROM ELECTRICITY.
"Valdor, Nick, we over-looked the effect of dragon fear on all these men and women. There will be a trampling riot amongst these people. Only the holy men can give the elves and orcs the courage they need."
Lian Tuesday October 31st, 2006 2:45:04 PM
The monk waits with the elves.
Corialote [spell resistance: SR 34] and Amarth d20+14=30 d20+12=25 Tuesday October 31st, 2006 5:11:38 PM
Cori nods to Ve. "Not a bad days work really..." She slowly lets that fade as he starts to feel the unmistakable presence of dragon. "The storm is not the problem...do you feel that tingle...the hairs standing up on the back of your neck..." Her eyes rove the skies as she tries to spot the source of the fear. "Dragon fear and it is headed this way I fear." She palms one of her magic missile wands from the pocket of her pants as she looks to Ve. "We may have to play bait."
Amarth from her shoulder does not look at all comfortable about any of this and a dragon was not in the plan...well at least this early.
Brother Bertram d20+8=18 d20+8=10 Tuesday October 31st, 2006 7:35:05 PM

Dahlia / Ingrge d20+14=32 Tuesday October 31st, 2006 10:22:17 PM
Dahlia still below and finally finished with a fruitless search hears the hubub from above and Nick calling for her and heads back up as he answers him. "Yes Nicholas, Can I help you?"
*******
Up in the crows nest, Ingrge watches with interest as the ships make their move to settle into shore and catches a glimpse of something out of the corner of his eye. Sure he saw something (DC32) he focuses on the area trying to discover what it was that he saw.
Valdor d20=20 Tuesday October 31st, 2006 10:32:50 PM
Sensing the dragonfear and hearing the others' comments, Valdor says quickly,"Ve, Cori, get back here now. We don't know if the dragon even knows we are here yet. We're getting off the ship quickly. You won't stand a chance on that carpet against a dragon."
He "helps" people get ready to exit. Anyone who can swim, he'll heave a dozen extra yards toward the shore. He leaves the horses to the elves, knowing their abilities with animals exceed his own.
He scans the area and the oncoming storm, looking for signs of the dragon.(Spot nat 20)
Milo Wednesday November 1st, 2006 1:24:58 AM
As the dragonfear begins to sink in, Milo scampers down to the deck, and changes out his slippers for boots of speed, replacing the slippers in his haversack. He then silently finds a place by Olana's side, "Do you feel that?" The halfling shivers.
Olana d20+14=29 Wednesday November 1st, 2006 1:48:18 AM
Olana is chewing the corner of her lip and looking edgy when Milo arrives. "Yeah - feels like Parnoth has arrived," she grumbles. "How we're going to get everything on shore without breaking a few legs, I just don't know. I hope those orcs are right."

Nick Wednesday November 1st, 2006 1:50:42 AM
"Dahlia!" yells Nick, as he's pushed and shoved this way and that as folk try to disembark. "That prophecy - didn't you say you saw a silver dragon? What do you know about silvers? Can they do weather?"
Dahlia (illegal second post) Wednesday November 1st, 2006 6:48:31 AM
Responding to Nicholas as she pops out of the hatch and onto the deck.
"To the best of my recollection, the silver dragons are indeed good with weather, mostly wind and cold, but I am sure other things as well."
Valdor Wednesday November 1st, 2006 9:04:56 AM
Valdor pipes in,"Wasn't a silver aligned with the black dragon? We should be very cautious about revealing ourselves to this silver."
Ve Mundr Wednesday November 1st, 2006 9:28:52 AM
Ve arches a brow towards Cori, "and landing on the boat was an idea that didn't set well with you?" He then smiles even as Valdor directs them to return and adds with a wink to the drow mage. "Me thinks he is far too protective of me." Though Ve does continue down and towards the shore the ships move to, he will not go below 100' feet quite yet.
DM Jan Wednesday November 1st, 2006 12:31:20 PM
((Guys and Gals, due to a few upcoming administration issues, I'm going to have to push things along a bit then we can get to the finale.))
OUT ON THE LAKE -
Just concentrating on the storm for a moment, at their altitude, both Ve and Cori catch the sight of a silver tail, darting in and out of the clouds in the distance. This is a dragon-made storm.
And while Valdor's voice hammers urgently through the earpiece, Cori spots something else - something that makes her stomach curdle. In the water below - a dark shape is moving rapidly toward shore. A big, dark shape. Dragonfear rolls through the ether, twisting the perception, attempting to freeze the mind - and it's accompanied by a voice - telepathic and female, aimed at the two carpet-fliers.
If you're out looking for trouble, you'll find plenty here. I suggest you hide, while he's out there getting his pet slave to do his dirty work.
The shape continues toward shore, until at some point, from this far up in the air, it seems to disappear altogether.
AT THE SHORE -
Ingrge, Olana and Valdor spot a small dot in the distant sky, approaching from the south, flying toward the group and the large camp beyond to the north. Valdor and Ingrge can even make out a flash of colour. They've both seen dragons in flight before, and this one? It's RED. Everyone has minutes. That's all.
The resulting chaos is unimaginable. The First Mate does not want the ship run aground - "Land lubbers... there's a keel! She'll list to one side and throw us all in the water!"
Borden doesn't mess around, he has both his men and his horses over the side, with the orcs clutching frantically at the flanks of their mounts, as the horses swim strongly toward the shore.
The Aisildurians decide to air walk. It's a fast walk.
In the scramble, Dahlia's memory might be jogged as to what she found below - barrels of water, food, various non-magical weapons, and some small barrels of black powder.
There is pushing, shoving, yelling, elbowing, trampling. Some of Capt Brown's men are trying to get the boats in the water, others are just leaping over the side.
Gunther discovers that his panther can swim quite well, although she's hardly too pleased about it.
((I'm assuming everyone gets to shore using whatever physical or magical means they have at their disposal. This is the pushing things along part ;) ))
The water is clear, and extremely cold. Luckily the shore isn't too far away. But after that -
after, in some cases, nearly drowning under the weight of their own weapons and armour, or getting elbowed in the face, or dragged below the surface of the water and swallowing half the lake, or getting stepped on by horses scrambling to get a footing, after that -
comes the thigh-numbing dash toward the clumps of trees.
Bedraggled and exhausted, those who have had to get through the water have barely made it before a large shadow flies past, above the tree canopy. It's the Red - coming into land at the camp.
So - dragons. Plural. A silver has been spotted, the prophecy tells of a male black one, and now a red one?
Reconaissance is urgently required. And a battle plan. And as Mordrid suggests, a need for morale boosting.
((Mark - my map email to you bounced back. Could you post your email address? I must have it wrong.))

K'Nara d20=17 Wednesday November 1st, 2006 7:47:20 PM
Swimming in armor isn't easy...but K'Nara knows that it will be especially hard for Brother Bert--dwarves are NOT the best of swimmers.
"Bertram!" she gets the cleric's attention, "Help me get this hatch cover loose--it's wood and will float in the water...you hold onto it and I'll help you swim ashore!"
With Brother Bertram's help, K'Nara can get the wooden hatch cover off the hatch and into the water to aid the dwarf in getting ashore. (OOC: rolled a d20 for whatever kind of check the DM may feel is necessary; roll result is 17.)
After she's ashore, the leader of the Talons asks Valdor: "Where in the Wold are all these dragons coming from? Did we blunder into wherever that place was that the dragons of old were banished to??? How can we recon? As I recall, most dragons can spot anything invisible and can tell if a person is in their vicinity thanks to incredibly sharp senses..!"
Brother Bertram Wednesday November 1st, 2006 7:55:18 PM
A bedraggled dwarf, grunts gratefully to K'nara as they make it to shore. His axe he wipes down quickly, getting it ready for whatever may come next.

Olana Wednesday November 1st, 2006 9:57:23 PM
If Milo is okay getting to shore, then she'll leave him to his own devices, otherwise she'll try and make sure they both stay afloat by using one of the ponies or horses to help them along a bit.
On shore and under the trees - "I felt sure that dragon would come down on us. It's either blind or distracted, or thinks we're part of the whole shebang, maybe."
She'll offer up her scouting services to K'Nara and Valdor.
Milo d20+16=34 Wednesday November 1st, 2006 10:22:45 PM
Milo doesn't even flinch, but dives straight into the water and begins to swim along side Olana. The halfling is a surprisingly strong swimmer. (OOC: Swim check DC 34)
Aeralia d20=12 d20=14 Wednesday November 1st, 2006 10:58:09 PM
Aeralia isn't much of a swimmer, but doesn't really have any other way she can think of to get to land, so she'll dive in, and make the best of it. Choking and coughing up water, looking like a drowned rat as she pulls herself up on shore, Aeralia quickly changes her mind and decides she doesn't like the ocean anymore, as she was starting to.
Once she has a few moments to breath air instead of water, the young sorceress stands and tries to ring some of the water from her dress, shivering against the cold. She darts for the trees once she realizes thats their current destination, taking cover with the others.
"So what are we supposed to do now?" she wonders outloud, trying to move to a better spot to overlook the camp.

Cori simply shrugs and then looks to the sky again. She points out the tail that she sees but it is gone almost as fast. "I don't make the rules...I just break them." Her smile shows a perfect set of white teeth.
Looking down she shakes her head. "Look at the shape in the water...another dragon if I am not mistaken." Then she is listening to the voice in her head and shakes her head. "Seems that a certain Black Dragon dragon is on the prowl." She stats this both to Ve and to Valdor through her earpiece.
Amarth is also watching the area for signs of other dragons. He does not like the feelings that are going through his little brain. He also does not like the idea of dealing with dragons anymore than he has to.
Both Mistress and familiar are looking over the ground for places to hide, possible places for ambush and anything else that maybe helpful.

Gunther d20+15=18 d20+6=13 Wednesday November 1st, 2006 11:56:52 PM
The big cat trainer cuts through the water, making sure that Thaeri is doing ok (Swim=18). Making landfall, Gunther scans the horizon (Spot=13) as he helps the other orcs to shore. He grins at the grunts. "Well boys, looks like we might just get to have some good old fashioned dragon stew tonight!" he calls out in spotless orcish as he shakes himself off. Trying to bolster their spirits, Gunther helps Borden and Birk form up the orcs in their ranks once more. Then he goes to Thaeri. "A big creature is coming. It is going to try and scare you...but don't run away. I'll be there, fighting it. But don't try to join in to the fight either...it will be too strong. Just stay close by and keep an eye out."
Valdor Thursday November 2nd, 2006 1:45:59 AM
Valdor swims to the shore, helping whoever needs it along the way. Seeing the large number of people not knowing what to do, however, gets his blood going. When he makes shore and feels the humming from his sword, Valdor spies the red off in the distance and booms out,"Start moving under the trees toward the North. He may spy us, but if we move toward the other camp coming out of the same ships, it may think we just missed the landing. Keep spread out under the cover of the trees. Rogues and elves, get out front and get us some distances to the camp. Stay out of sight. Move it!"
He puts his cloak on to cover his shining armor and moves under the trees. After the red has passed, he addresses the rest of the group and says,"Don't concern yourselves about that red dragon. We have fought and killed a bunch of those. We are here to possibly fight a huge battle and you are now on the winning side! It's great to want glory and money...it's another to lose and get nothing but death. After we win this battle, you will all be rewarded handsomely for joining us. You captains and ship crews who got us through that portal will have new ships! The rest will gain their glory and riches as well! Be prepared and, if there is a dragon to fight, stay spread out and let us handle the dragon. Be silent until I give the order to attack! Now, let's move out quickly and quietly."
He repiles to Cori,"Did you see the red that just flew over? That makes a possibility of three dragons. If we have to fight, we need to take out the red first, then the black. The silver is probably controlled by the black. Domi's shorts! I have gone against two dragons once, but never three. I don't want a battle if we can avoid it."
He then finds all the clerics and says,"You should all spread through the ranks. We can't be losing all of you in one breath. If you have any physical boosts, be prepared to cast them soon. Nick, I have a bad feeling about this. My place has always been at the front, and will be today. But, I have never had such odds against us. Don't get killed today. I'll probably need you to intervene with Gargul for me."
Nick sees uncertainty and even fear in Valdor's eyes. Noone else would probably notice that doesn't know him. His jaw is set and his posture says he's ready, but in the back of his eyes...
Lian Thursday November 2nd, 2006 3:34:27 AM
"Does anyone have any messages for Gargul that I can give him?" Jokes the monk.
"More Dragons huh? Ah well, nothing can be easy can it."
Mordrid (protection from electricity, protection from fire) Thursday November 2nd, 2006 9:41:39 AM
The ranger alights on the beach. He looks up toward the sky with wild eyes. His blood is pumping, and he is itching for a fight. (dragon - favoreded enemy.)
"Valdor, we just can't wait for the three dragon's to come together. Allow me to draw the red into a fight. We can bring him down quickly and even the odds. You know I am right."
The ranger casts protection from fire.
The ranger sets his bow, and prepares to let loose an arrow, if the dragon flies in range again, (1000 feet hehe) and with Valdor's permission (maybe, if he can control himself. The only thing currently stopping him is the fear of someone getting hurt by his initiations.)
The ranger mumbles like a madman, as he trods thru the sand while entranced on the sky, "rule number one when fighting a dragon -Attack first, attack fast and attack hard. Do not hold anything back. Rule number two - attack the dragon physically, not magically. Rule number three: Spread out..." The ranger sounds as if he is prepared to go on.
Ve Mundr d20+16=32 Thursday November 2nd, 2006 9:45:39 AM
Ve looks to Cori, "We are certainly in the right area now." as the voice mentions looking for trouble.
Cori points out the shape and Ve nods his agreement. "We should probably land and meet with the others. While our ability to see a great deal from high up is desirable, there is a dragon flying about."
Ve takes the carpet in to land with the group keeping his eye out about anything on the way. [Spot 32] When they arrive he locates Valdor and tells him about the voice. "My thought is the silver dragon warning us about the red and black. The silver is definately making the big storm."

Nick Thursday November 2nd, 2006 1:12:32 PM
Somewhat out of breath after the dash up the beach, Nick nods at Valdor. He can certainly understand his leader's apprehension and fear. Three dragons? Three? Although perhaps the silver...
"Don't worry. We'll get through it." Empty words, Nick, empty words... "But it seems to me that we desperately need eyes and ears beyond those trees. We need to know our enemy, and if there's a chance - exactly what they're planning."
He casts a sideways glance at Mordrid, who seems already enraptured by the thought of a dragon battle.
DM Jan Thursday November 2nd, 2006 2:00:01 PM
Valdor's words help settle the general chaos, and the entire party starts to move and gather into strategic groups.
Lian and Falin get the elves and their bows organized into their own four groups - and two groups head inland and north, using the trees for cover, the other two stay not too far away from the main gathering. Brother Tyne, one of the Aisildurians, heads off with the northern group.
With the orcs, Capt Brown's men and the big hunting horses they brought with them - Borden, Birk and Gunther find themselves with a ready-made and fearsome-looking cavalry.
All the other men from the ships appear to gather together into one seething horde of infantry. And most of them are giving Mordrid a wide berth. Even the barbarians are not going to go near this crazy person. "He's right, tho'," says a stout fellow wearing a jaunty metal helmet with a single horn sticking out if it.
And so, it appears that Valdor, Mordrid, Olana, Milo, Bertram, Ingrge, Dahlia, Ve, Cori, K'Nara, Nick, Brother's Nyle and Michael, and Aeralia have a choice on their hands. They can either join up with the bowmen, the cavalry, or the infantry - OR - go in as an individual - OR - team up in smaller groups.
((Folks - let me know what your character intends to do - it'll just make it easier for me with the map, that's all.))
IN THE MEANTIME!
As the party gathers and sorts itself out -
The Platinum ranger is perhaps a little disappointed when the red dragon does not circle back. Going off it's trajectory before they reached cover, Ve and Cori figure perhaps that it was going into land at the camp.
Funny how there are no 'fear of dragon' screams coming from that direction. In fact, sounds can be heard, sounds like general 'camp noise.' No one is scared. Odd. Those stood close to Capt Brown's men may have noticed some of these men reach into their pockets and drink out of a small bottle, then give a sigh of relief. Not unlike the small bottle K'Nara now has, after the episode with the crazed man, back in Izen.
Could it also be, that for the time being, the group has been overlooked, or certain innocent assumptions have been made - that perhaps you're expected to join the main camp? If so - there's a window of opportunity right there, probably a small one, though.
ALSO! - someone appears to be wading into shore from the lake - a tiny, diminutive female, who begins to sprint toward the group as soon as she has found her feet. By the time she approaches, she is completely dry, her long, silky black hair flowing behind her. Those who remember the battle against Ebyron over at the Floating City will remember this one, where she was apt to change into something entirely more fearsome, and was last seen hurling great trees into the lake. A lake not unlike this one, in fact.
((OOC - folks, you need knowledge before you charge in - there's more. ))
Gunther (AC33, HP106/106), Spell Resistance 13 d20+1=16 Thursday November 2nd, 2006 2:18:57 PM
Gunther looks over at Borden and Captain Brown. "Captain...can dose men ride? If not, they need a quick lesson. Get the horses ready for combat immediately!" Then Gunther returns his attention to Borden, switching to orcish. "Sir, calvary is not very useful against dragons. But it looks like that dragon just landed in the camp...and it sounds like there are other creatures in the camp. With our speed and prowess, we can easily sweep down on the camp when it's time and provide a distraction, allowing that big guy (Gunther jerks his thumb in Valdor's direction) and some of the others to sneak into camp and concentrate on the dragon. Then, once we've taken out the support troops, we can carve ourselves some nice dragon steaks." Gunther gathers Bordern's thoughts on the matter and then heads over to K'nara, letting her know his small part of the battle plan.

Valdor Thursday November 2nd, 2006 2:37:31 PM
Valdor is grateful for Mordrid interrupting his thoughts. He replies,"Steady brother. We really need some information first. If we attack, we may not learn what we need to learn. And if there are three dragons in the area, we don't want them all on us. They may split up so we need to sit back and watch for a little. If it looks like we're going to fight, you'll get the first shot."
He responds to Ve,"Well done. I thought going to that ship was a bad idea, and you have proven me wrong. Be ready with those hydra teeth. We will soon need them, I fear. I will check out the other camp myself this time. You guys and gals get everyone ready, warmed up, dried off, and start getting the leaders together. I'll be back shortly."
He applies his Dust of Disappearance and tries to find a spot to teleport to. If he can spy an area in the trees near the camp, he will teleport there, otherwise, he'll just teleport onto the edge of the beach and trees as far as he close as he can get.
K'Nara (AC35, HP 134/134) Thursday November 2nd, 2006 7:12:20 PM
K'Nara makes sure that Brother Bertram is under cover of the trees and then turns around, intending to join Valdor and consult with how to find out more about the people at the camp...when she sees an unfamiliar person exit the water.
"Looks like we have a visitor, Valdor..." she says to the leader of the Platinum Dragons, "...and wasn't this the one who shapechanged--"
K'Nara cuts off her statement as the woman approaches, not wishing to tip her suspicions off to the newcomer. The blade singer has no weapons in hand...yet.
(OOC: both Valdor and K'Nara were in the same party for their adventure in the ancient Wold.)
Lian AC 37, hps 88/88 d20+10=11 d20+20=36 Thursday November 2nd, 2006 7:21:11 PM Would the divine casters have had time to sit around and use the Incense of Meditation? I'm sorry it wasn't mentioned before, but I figured I'd ask now. Lian would have set it up early into the trip, provided 8 hours was free to do so. None of his spells would be affected, but the other clerics might be.
The monk leads/follows one southern archer groups. He remains vigilant and read to cast. (Spot 11, Listen 36)
He retrieves a Restorative Ointment and hands it to Brother Bertram. "Did you need a wand of Cure Moderate too?" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dahlia Thursday November 2nd, 2006 8:01:42 PM
Before leaving the ship altogether, Dahlia grabs a few of those small bags of black powder and then activating her boots flies to shore. Joining up with valdor and K'nara, she responds to Valdor. "Yes there was a silver somehow tied to the black, I am not sure if it is aligned or sudjucated."
******* Once on shore Ingrge watches and waits moving to join the elvish bowmen. Once with them he strings his bow and checks his supply of arrows.

Milo Friday November 3rd, 2006 1:32:30 AM
Milo does his best to stay near at hand, standing close to Olana, "I don't know whether to find a place to hide now, or just await the oncoming beasties... though it appears," nodding toward the newcomer walking up the beach, "that one has already arrived."
Brother Bertram Friday November 3rd, 2006 7:00:15 AM
Bertram gathers his power, praying to Domi and Gargul, asking for guidance and strength. He goes through his pack and gathers some gems which he places in a pouch on his belt for easy access.
Ve Mundr Friday November 3rd, 2006 10:32:01 AM
Ve frowns as Valdor teleports out, but says nothing. To himself he keeps his council at this point. Valdor had enough without descenting opinions or remarks abouthis immediate course. So to that end of keeping his tongue behind his teeth, Ve sets himself to assisting in preparations and to that end he tries to gather Nick, Cori and the Talons resident spellcasters.
"I have asked this meeting to discuss our general stratedgy. we obviously want to spread out to cause the greatest impact across the troops. The cavalry will proabbly have to be on thier own unless any of you are prfoccient enough in the saddle to be effective."
"Do we still have that potion from one of Brown's men? We can be certain the enemy will be drinking them and going into a frenzy of rather impressive magnitude. It may also stay off the dragon fear. I believe that dispel magics will be of enormous benefit. not only will it cancel the benefits of thier beserker fury, but the Dragon fear will be used against them as well."
Ve nods as he speaks of using this tactic to encourage the others to start nodding and soon hopefully has a nice agreement. He continues, "We need to be aware of where all of us are and the other extremely important players in this. With that in mind, each of us should take 2 others as our personal charges. With Dragons about, I will take Mordrid and Lian. This will also put me into the thick, which is where I should be. I suggest to Cori and Father Nicholas, that you look after Talons. For the Dragon Teeth, my thought is to send them to try and flank or to be used as instant reinforcements."

Mordrid Friday November 3rd, 2006 11:21:38 AM
Mordrid joins Ve's meeting, himself a little concerned about Valdor's sudden disappearance.
(The ranger still appears intoxicated by the hunt).
The ranger nods once when he is assigned to Ve. It was a good match. "I think we keep our troops together in a rally area, until the camp has been suitably scouted. It would be insane to approach in full force when we don't know what's there. Any plan at this point would be folly. So, someone should go ahead immediately and find an appropriate staging area. I recommend Falin."
As soon as the group breaks, he goes to Lian, Falin and the archers. "Place all your non-magical arrows in a pile." Once they comply, or those that do comply immediately, Mordrid takes his wand of greater magic weapon +5, and uses 5 charges to cause 250 arrows to become magical (+5 arrows).
"Good luck gentlemen," Mordrid leaves the archers to their new treasure.
Corialote and Amarth Friday November 3rd, 2006 1:45:30 PM
Cori listens at the meeting but is not too quick to agree. When Mordrid speaks up she cannot help but nod. "My magics will be most useful against the non-dragons...though I do have a few things that should help even with the dragons." Two...possibly three dragons was not her idea of fun but hey. The smile upon her face is one of pure excitement. "I have a control weather spell that might allow me to ground all the dragons and put them into a better position for us."
Lian Friday November 3rd, 2006 2:39:49 PM
The monk/Hand of Domi watches as the arrows are enchanted.
"Where are we going Ve?" The elf almost resists; he has a duty to the archers and Talons.
Olana Friday November 3rd, 2006 9:11:56 PM
Olana looks in the direction Milo is gesturing toward and frowns. Who was this? If she's met this person before, she certainly doesn't remember.
"Friend or foe?" she says to Milo quietly, while trying to catch what Ve Mundr and K'nara and Mordrid, and everyone else was saying.
Nick Friday November 3rd, 2006 9:21:22 PM
"I've absolutely no objection to teaming up with some of the Talons," says Nick. "But who's keeping an eye on Valdor's hide?"
That was a question he didn't want left unsaid, although it might have been somewhat redundant because their leader was off somewhere on his own anyway.
Falin (AC 20 HP 63) Saturday November 4th, 2006 3:19:30 AM
"Lian, do not fear my friend." He motions to the other elves, "They have been trained as much as we can. Now it is in the hands of the gods."
Falin takes 25 of the magiked arrows and has the rest of the groups divvy them up with the instruction, "Only use these when you are certain of a hit." Falin goes with the archers and takes up a position so that all of the elven archers can see him.
He then takes his non-magikal arrows and places them into the ground, head first, for easy reach. He takes his 25 magikal arrows and placed them in his quiver so they can travel with him.
He momentarily closes his eyes and says a quick prayer to whichever god may be listening and then knocks an arrow and awaits. He feels an almost bestial stirring in his soul as the impending battle approaches.
Valdor Saturday November 4th, 2006 2:25:01 PM
Upon arriving in his new location, Valdor says very quietly,"Ve, I'm going to search out their stash of that potion if possible. However, I don't think it's magical. Back at the camp, someone tried a detect magic, and it didn't show anything. I will destroy what I can find, if I have the chance. I will keep you all up to speed on what's happening here at their camp."
He moves around the backside of the camp, staying behind structures or tents between hom and the red dragon. He knows he's invisible and with all themovement, it shouldn't be able to sense him. But, he takes no chance.
DM Jan Saturday November 4th, 2006 3:26:51 PM
((Eek, sorry guys, got attacked by the blasted headache monster yesterday. Better now, so on we go...))
Valdor teleports out, leaving behind a slight pressure wave that pops as it moves through the air.
The remaining adventurers' gathering is joined part way through by the slight humanoid female figure who appears to have just swum ashore out of nowhere. None of the infantry stop her as she approaches, and none offer her any wolf-whistles, either, for she carries an aura of slight unease, and a gravitas that, while hidden by her smooth, youthful face, is betrayed by cold grey eyes that have witnessed eons. Lady Solara, Floating City Gold Level Representative, occasional advisor to the Overlord, and deadly, ancient black dragon in human form, shifts the silk, embroidered shawl around her shoulders, gives a slight nod to those she recognises, and listens.
Then, at some point, she asks -"What do you intend to do about their ships?" A slender finger points toward the lake. "The Floating City lies many leagues hence, beyond the horizon, and that's where they're headed."
Borden, Gunther and Birk are gathered in their own war council. The big orc leader snorts as he listens. "I agree," he says. "Our best chance is to decimate their infantry, cause panic, and maybe gather any orcs there to our cause."
The elves give Mordrid a solumn bow on receipt of the enhanced ammunition, and they'll distribute it as Lian and Falin sees fit.
Dahlia's appropriated containers of black powder might jog both Ingrge's and Cori's memory toward a recent article in 'Star Tower Wizard's Weekly'. A similar substance had been brought back from the Far West, and some old fool, in an uncontrolled experiment, had blown his whiskers off with it. The article had then gone on to partially dismiss the stuff, although pondered on what would happen if someone were to fire a magic missile at a larger pile of it.
As some discuss tactics, Bertram, Olana, Milo, Aeralia, Ingrge, Falin, quietly prepare their minds for war. This is the calm before the storm. Even the other men off the boats are going through their own solumn, silent preparation, checking weapons, armour, horses, aligning their thoughts for what is to come.
And during that time, the Wold begins to slip from late afternoon toward twilight, and both pale moons can be seen - ghost-like discs in the darkening sky.
A breeze blowing from the lake begins to strengthen, as the flurry of dragon-borne cloud starts to shift slowly toward shore.
MEANWHILE!
Valdor arrives at the other side of the headland, on the outer edges of the main camp. About 200 feet away, the big red dragon is shrinking rapidly, becoming human - a tall, narrow build, with dark hair and distinguished cheekbones; his robes are well tailored, a little flashy, like those of a mage of noble bearing.
And oh........ it's so tempting....
But then this man-dragon strides toward a large tent in the center of the camp. He is awaited there by two other men - who look striking similar. Same clothes, same bearing. One looks a little older, one looks a little younger. ((Mordrid, Ingrge, Dahlia and Capt Brown and his men would recognise the older one.))
Between these three and the half-elf warrior, is a seething mass of men and a scattering of orcs, some of them easily as tall and broad as him, and amongst the campfire smoke and the cooking smells and the 'delicate' scent of the latrines, is a sense of forced anticipation. Edgy and dark, the atmosphere is thick with it. These boys are rarin' to go. Even the presence of a dragon wasn't enough to turn it about. A rough count? Maybe about 900 of them.
Corialote [shapechange: will-o'-wisp] and Amarth d20+10=30 d20+34=50 d20+34=45 Sunday November 5th, 2006 3:17:52 PM
As Cori half listens to what is going on around her she had been thinking about a few items that Dahlia had brought with her from the ship. It takes but a few seconds for the recent articles to come back to her but she laughs. "I think our dear Dahlia may have the solution to our ship problem and if the other ships have the same cargo..." Her smile is purely mischievious as she shakes her head and laughs some more. "How many ships are there total Lady Solara?" She is hoping to get as close to a true count as possible and this lady is most formidable...she would have most likely counted them already...heck she probably knwe how many men where in the camp over the ways. Her eyes take in Lady Solara with a mixture of respect and envy, though she gives the woman a slight nod of her head.
Looking to Mordrid she shakes her head. "I doubt that you or Valdor will be happy about this but I need to do a little scouting." She moves off to the side of the group and prepares herself for the casting of a spell. When she is done she gives a nod to Mordrid and the rest as her shape changes into that of a will-o'-wisp. She takes off in the direction of the ships that are anchored a ways away.
Amarth does not look to happy as his Mistress takes off and he hops around on the branch that he is on. "She will be the death of me yet." He settles down to mope as he waits for her return.
Ve Mundr Sunday November 5th, 2006 9:25:52 PM
The cleric looks to Lian "At the moment no where. We wait for Valdor to return. If the potions are not magical a full barrage of powerful Dispel areas is still warranted." Changing his tone to a warmer one he adds to the monk, "Falin is right, you have done well by them. They will be well. We will cast other spells to assist as well."
A quick whisper to Valdor, "It will take us some time to organize an attack and I think we should as soon as we can. The longer we wait the greater chance they have of detecting us. The red flew over and obviously we were see as friendly units just a bit off. They are surely discussing why we landed here and assembling a party to come here. The enemy is surprised we must strike before they organize while they are still at rest." To his oldest friend Father Nicholas, he can offer nothing. Nick has seen the look before. From Ve's perspective Valdor would have to look to himself.
Ve now takes in the woman, "The ships? I plan to do nothing about them at all. My plan would strike within the hour and destroy them. The ships are irrelevant."
"Cori..." Blazing shadows of Gargul "Mordrid and Valdor are not the only ones." the cleric grumbles to her form as it moves off.

Gunther (AC33, HP106/106), Spell Resistance 13 d20+6=15 Sunday November 5th, 2006 11:40:45 PM
Gunther nods at Borden. "Right then. Make sure the boys are ready...we're going to have a good time soon enough!" Excusing himself, Gunther heads over to Ingrge. He hands the accomplished mage three scrolls. "Ven it looks like it's time for us to strike, vould you please cast dese for me? Von is for me...von is for K'nara...and von is for Borden." (3 stoneskin scrolls) Then Gunther heads over to K'nara. Grabbing her enthusiastically, Gunther kisses her passionately. "Vhatever happens out dere...you had better come back to me!" Gunther hands the bladesinger a potion. "Dis is a Barkskin potion (+3). I vant you to use it. And make sure dat Ingrge casts Stoneskin on you...I gave him a scroll." With one final kiss, Gunther heads back over to the orcs and readies himself for battle.
Though he is by no means an accomplished rider, Gunther readies himself to join the calvary. Rising rather unsteadily in the saddle (Ride=15), Gunther checks to make sure that Thaeri is ok. He also reminds her not to engage with any of the dragons. If she wants to snack on some of the smaller creatures she is more than welcome.
Milo Monday November 6th, 2006 12:16:27 AM
While smiling outwardly, Milo mutters to Olana, "The jury is still out, but I think I may develop a permanent eye twitch if we go through any more portals like that last one. Too many dragons out here for my taste." To K'nara, "You want us to do some scoutin' boss?" Milo grins.

Mordrid Monday November 6th, 2006 9:26:58 AM
Standing with Solara and Ve, "on the contrary Ve, if we attack the ships, their plans are delayed whither we fail or not."
"Be safe Cori," the ranger replies to Cori. With a look to Ve, the cleric can catch by eye contact that the ranger is not pleased with everyone running off to do their own thing.
"Another plan might be to attack the main camp as a feint, while another smaller group attacks the primary target, the ships. With such a diversion, surely the ships could be destroyed as they will be less defended."
Valdor Monday November 6th, 2006 12:20:47 PM
With all the noise, Valdor isn't concerned too much about being heard creeping back away from the camp. He replies to Ve quietly,"The only problem I have with that, is that they have done nothing to warrant us attacking them, other than destroy a bunch of trees. While we suspect them for much, they have broken no laws that I am aware of, nor have they harmed anyone who is our ally...yet.
However, we could position our forces around the perimeter, prepare to destroy their ships and be ready for exactly that, then simply approach their camp and demand an explanation. Let them make the first attack. If we keep our forces hidden, they will just think we are investigating and alone. And, there are at least three dragons in the camp at the moment. At least, I suspect they are all dragons in human guise. They dress like noblemen. I saw the red change form and he met up with two others who were dressed identically and they are at the center of camp.
Also, I estimate there are about 900 others here, some orc, some human. Perhaps some will change sides, perhaps not. I think we get the archers spread out in these trees, get the orcs ready. Keep our groups, the Dragons and Talons fairly close together. Get your hydra teeth ready. Also, tell the people from the other ships that in that camp is a large amount of gold and the survivors will split it evenly. It will give them something to fight for. Maybe our rogues can get to the ships unseen. Of course, the other ships may have that black powder stuff too and it will just take a fireball to set off a chain reaction.
I'll leave that to them and you spellcasters. Mordrid, you and K'Nara get everyone in their groups and march. While there is a lot of movement and noise, we might be able to get close enough without being detected...but we need to move out now. When the dragons show themselves, we must take them down and quickly. I will take the red. My sword is hungry for it. When we confront them, they will begin changing, that is the time to strike. I will move close, as I am invisible, but I will remain silent. I think Mordrid should stay back with his arrows ready to fire upon them starting to change."
Aeralia (AC 12, HP 40/40, Disguise Self) Monday November 6th, 2006 12:51:43 PM
Aeralia could feel the pit of her stomach turning, and she stood shivering slightly, not much from the chill in the water, but from the fear of coming battle. She'd had her fair share of combat before, always finding her way into trouble. But this was a battle. A war. She was no soldier. She was hardly a mage for that matter.
"Why...don't we go try talking to them?" she murmurs as loud as she can manage, trying to get her mind off the coming conflict. "I'm sure someone over there saw our ships come through and land, so they know someones here. We don't have to tell them your all here," motioning to the Talons and Dragons, then the elves. Maybe a few of us can go over and act like we landed like we are supposed to, and see what they want us to do?"
Closing her eyes briefly, her attire changes completely, the soft linen shifting in to blackened leather, her boots into wicked looking spiked greaves, and her sleeves into taloned gauntlets. "I'll go, if you allow, just send a few others who might be the other leaders and captains."
Brother Bertram Monday November 6th, 2006 1:10:17 PM
Bertram goes through each of his spells in his mind, picking ones that would do the most good against such odds.
Lian Monday November 6th, 2006 3:42:09 PM
The monk watches Aeralia with awe and concern. Was she brave or just inexperienced? He settles on both. He smirks to himself.
Dahlia d20+23=42 d4+13=17 Monday November 6th, 2006 7:10:15 PM
Dahlia finds Cori and by happenstance Igrge happens to be nearby, when she puts her containers on the ground in front of them (how many did she get?).
"Cori, I'm not sure what this stuff is but there sure was a bunch of it on board the ship. You have any clue?"
As Mordrid, Solara and Ve chat about the ships Dahlia noda a greeting to the black dragon and then adds her piece to the conversation.
"I have a couple of friends who might enjoy those floating piles of kindling. Let me know if you want me to put them to work. In fact I expect I have a few friends who would enjoy a good romp with their infantry as well."
********
Ingrge nods at Gunther's request to cast the scrolls when it is time and then about drops his Jaw when dahlia casually drops the containers at his feet once he realizes what they are (Anowledge Arcana 42).
"Dahlia, unless you want to blow us all up, please be more careful with those things."
Quickly casting a spell Ingrge sends an Arcane eye heading toward the eenmy camp hoping to gain a little information. Moments later he casts yet again and sends 17 prying eyes out as well with instructions to encircle the enemy camp and spend 30 minutes spying on the camp then return to report.

K'Nara Monday November 6th, 2006 8:15:52 PM
The blade singer's eyes narrowed as her mind turned and she finally placed the "human" female as Lady Solara. She made sure to activate her own earclip so that the Platinum Dragons could hear her words (plus whatever response the shapechanged dragon may make.)
"Lady Solara...I'm assuming that the troops massed over yonder are to 'save' the Floating City, then?" K'Nara asked of the representative. "What in the Wold do they believe they are rescuing the Big Float from?" Her hazel eyes sweep Solara up and down curiously. "From you? Or something else..?"
Olana Tuesday November 7th, 2006 12:50:35 AM
"Portals are unnatural," Olana says quietly to Milo, in full agreement of his observations. She'll hang out nearby, also - then if K'Nara does want some scouting done, then both she and Milo are ready.
She's also intrigued about what this stranger has to say.
Nick Tuesday November 7th, 2006 12:56:11 AM
"If there's a contingent going for the ships, I'll volunteer to accompany them," says Nick, followed by a shrug. "Well, whoever goes will need some protection, right? Providing the main group has adequate protection, of course."
Falin (AC 20 HP 63) Tuesday November 7th, 2006 1:34:14 AM
Falin has little effect on trying to slow his body down. His heart is racing with the thrill of the coming battle. He almost considers dropping his bow and taking up his sword in order to battle in close quarters, but then shakes his head at the thought.
He turns back towards the groupings of elves behind him and motions for them to remain patient and vigilant. Keeping them in his mind and knowing his responsibility to them helps him keep his focus. If he failed they would be the ones to suffer for it and he would not let that happen.
With a grim determination he turns back around and watches events unfold as they continue to prepare.
DM Jan Tuesday November 7th, 2006 1:55:30 AM
"Save it?" snorts Lady Solara, flicking back a few strands of silken black hair as she answers K'Nara. "Lathiese wants the Floating City for his own, and I'm assuming he's told some preposterous tale in order to persuade some of the lesser races to help him. He'll kill them all, you know, once he has power. He won't want to share it." "I have to admit, I'm a little surprised at his impatience. It wasn't that long ago he encountered the Storm Dragons and went to look where they came from. And from what I can see, he seems to have invested a fair amount of his treasure for this little exercise. " But then perhaps it isn't patience, but timing. The Float is still rebuilding after that addled-in-the-head fae nearly destroyed everything. They're distracted. I see he also has managed to hoodwink another dragon into helping with this little jaunt. Only a red would be so naive, so short-sighted. "Look - whatever you're planning to do, I'd do it before Lathiese gets back to shore. He's dangerous, you know."
As for Cori's question about how many boats, the lady shrugs. "I don't know. It takes a certain amount of concentration to avoided being detected by a mate, so I didn't notice the details." Cori might remember, from being up on the carpet, a count of around 40 of the larger boats anchored close to shore.
Dahlia has managed to appropriate 8 small containers of black powder.
Ingrge's Arcane Eye sets off (becoming blanked out to him for a moment as he concentrates on the Prying Eye spell) and once the other eyes are on their way, he can concentrate on what the arcane one is seeing.
The cavalry prepare, and are joined by Brother Michael, who slips confidently into one of the big horses saddles. The elves move quietly, toward their positions.
Capt Brown approaches Ve, Mordrid and K'nara. "Well, I can give the orders for the infantry, but what orders am I supposed to be giving?" he asks. He gives Aeralia a double-take.
To the will-o-wisp, the arcane eye, and the invisible Valdor, the camp seems so chaotic and noisy that if any of them were to walk stark naked amongst this crowd - no one would give a hoot. Here and there, banners can been seen flapping in the growing breeze - banners depicting a clenched iron gauntlet.
However - the three noblemen at the centre of camp appear to be in a heated argument. One of them is pointing south, toward the headland.
So! What is to be done? Is Solara correct? That this is a fighting force - it's intention to sail across the lake and capture the Floating City? Or is it just a bunch of excitable lumberjacks having a picnic? And have our heroes time to find out before the 'real' villain arrives?
The sky begins to darken, heading toward night, although it appears there will be plenty of light this night, as the Wolds twin moons begin to rise and brighten, bringing forth influences of their own.

Sometime in the evening, he will seek out wild berries. He will use his tattoo of Goodberry three times if he finds the berries. (16 berries)
The hand of Domi sits, listening to the air. The fact hits him that many of these people, including himself, may be dead by sunset tomorrow.
As night falls, he begins meditating to the sounds of night.

Mordrid Tuesday November 7th, 2006 9:14:48 AM
Mordrid says flatly to Solara, "are the people of the Floating City prepared for a fight? Do they even know they're endanger... again?"
Mordrid allows Valdor more time to scout before making a move. He puts a hand on Aeralia's shoulder to let her know he hears her, but he wants here to hang on for a second.
With a change of heart as the facts are presented (and the dragon has passed), "Valdor, can you tell me again why we are here? What does this have to do with New Elenna, the land we are sworn to protect? Are all these people prepared to die for this?" He says this loud enough for Aeralia, K'nara and the rest to hear. Having not witnessed the vision, as others have, he doesn't understand the relevance.
Valdor Tuesday November 7th, 2006 10:25:48 AM
Valdor replies to Mordrid,"We are here because of the black dragon's ambition. If he succeeds in this, not only will friends of ours and an entire city, be destroyed or at the least, conquered, but also it will embolden Parnoth. The vision showed the two coming together to destroy the gold dragon, which could mean just Sturdevant, or our entire city and country, since he is High Lord Mayor.
If we can destroy this threat, Parnoth will not be stupid enough to attempt either Sturdevant or Plateau City, without help. This place is utter chaos. Get everyone here as soon as possible."
Valdor, in all the commotion, moves fluidly through the crowds, searching out the stash of potions. Since he has time, he makes sure to avoid the tent where the dragon is. He does try to move close enough to hear their argument, if possible, depending on how many people are close to the tent. If there are not a lot of people close to it, he won't risk it.
Mordrid Tuesday November 7th, 2006 10:38:20 AM
Speaking to all those around, "You heard the man; pack up and move out." Mordrid mounts his horse, and waves back for those in the rear to see. "Moving out!"
Lian Tuesday November 7th, 2006 11:49:11 AM
Having just settled in, the monk has to move out now. He sighs and begins to gather gear.
Ve Mundr Tuesday November 7th, 2006 12:29:00 PM
Ve holds a hand up to Captain Brown, "Not to be rude, but a moment please Mr Brown." he then after hearing Valdor relay the tent conversation turns to Lady Solara. "This is enough of this. Solara, the 'enemy' is having a conversation that impicates you have been talking to them. 'Is Solara correct? That this is a fighting force - it's intention to sail across the lake and capture the Floating City?' You stand here and tell us that we need to destroy thier forces and ships. Those are two diverging goals of interest. You earlier said mate, as in yours, which gives you inside information as to how to stop him. There is also the Silver dragon flying about The Big Float' already. To me it looks as if you dragons are having issues and are throwing treasure and veiled intelligence about so that the wretches of the noble races do your bidding."
"So we are going to go through a quick question and answer session as Mordrid gears up the troops to move. Laithiese is the Black dragon we care about and he is returning to shore from where? You came to shore from where? Who are the 'our heroes' the nobles were talking about? The three in the camp, the look a like nobles, All red dragons aren't they? Finally the silver flying about in the Storm. Who is it, whose side is it on and where did it come from?"
Ve then glances to Mordrid, with the troops, "I have the ability to hide all of us from almost all of them. The dragons might see through it, but none of the troops will."

Lady Solara, what might you know of a silver that is supporting the black?
Ingrge waiting for a decision about if they are going to try anything magical begins concentrating on his arcane eye and seeing what there is to see.

The blade singer stows the potions given to her by Gunther into her haversack, but awaits the Lady Solara's responses to the additional questions put to her.
"I'll let you know, Milo, as soon as I know." she acknowledges the rogue's query with a nod to him before turning to Lady Solara with one eyebrow lifted.
"Well...m'lady..?" K'Nara prompts.

Falin (AC 20 HP 63) Wednesday November 8th, 2006 1:46:07 AM
Falin, unaware of the happenings with the other party members, continues to wrestle with his own inner feelings. He craves the freedom that open battle can provide. He is beginning to fidget with the excitement of what is to come. Falin is finding it harder and harder to keep his focus. It is almost as if he wants to break free from the confines of this safe elven persona and become more than he is.
His outward appearance is that of an anxious child waiting for something to happen he has begun to pace back and forth in a small 4 foot area as the events unfold around him. He has an anxious look about him and every once in a while he bites at his nails for something to do.
DM Jan Wednesday November 8th, 2006 2:13:37 AM
Lian finds his berries, in fact, in these quiet moments he discovers how pleasant this part of the Wold is - green, temperate, looking like it will support life fairly well; there is plenty of access to fresh water, and fish, going off what was seen out on the lake. And here, there's no brooding, magical buzz, no pig-headed sentience to wrestle mentally with, unlike the tempestuous and unforgiving Culverwood.
Further to the north east, Falin's group of elves have arrived at a section of trees where they can see the northern area of the camp. The growing darkness gives them plenty of cover, while offering little obstacle to their keen sight. In fact, if anything, Falin's sight in particular seems to get better. So does his hearing, and his sense of smell. Burning wood, cooked meat, and the stink of humans. That last smell in particular causes his hackles to rise...
As the men on foot begin to follow Mordrid quietly through the trees toward the camp, Solara's hackles are also beginning to rise.
"The Float has no idea about this. None of us did. I have two choices - run and tell, or stay and help. If you can't stop them - then perhaps I'd better cut and run, and warn them?" Her eyes drift to the insignia on Ve Mundr's armour. "Follower of Domi, I am having difficulty understanding your common. What are you asking me? What my own intentions are? "Long term, I would have thought they were obvious, but I assume that is a dispute you don't want to get into right now. "As for Lathiese, yes, he's my mate. We are on unfriendly terms." She smiles coldly, obviously irritated about this particular subject. "Do you know how a black dragon fights, Domi worshipper? We wait - in the water - and then we pounce, and drag you down. And there we hold you, until your lungs burst, until your thrashing stops, and you die. "You tell me there are three red dragons - that's the first I knew of it. I saw the one, just as you did. As for the silver - " She beckons to the group, and points through a gap in the trees, where the lake is visible, and fog rolls on it's surface. "The silver, he subjugated many years ago. She isn't old, as dragons go, but she is a weather adept. From what I've seen, very highly skilled. I don't know what he did to her, but I once saw her humanoid form. It is of a girl child, and her face bears terrible scars. "He's out there now, under the water, or at least he was when I swam past. He had no reason to disguise his intentions. He always has been easy to read. However, he could well be back at the camp by now for all I know.
"I realize it is difficult for such good people as yourselves to take my word for it, but really - you do NOT want Lathiese in control of the Float."
OVER AT THE CAMP -
Cori, in will o wisp form, takes a look toward the ships - they don't appear to be guarded, but there's no jetty. Getting aboard them to do mischief will involve flying, swimming or rowing via one of the many small rowing boats pushed up onto the sand.
Ingrge's arcane eye snakes about the camp - barbarians, orcs, humans - no elves or halflings, from what he can see. No casters that he can see. Plenty of axes and greatswords, though. There's a big fancy tent right in the middle of camp, completely at odds with the surrounding mess. Then - on the far side of the tent something seems to leap into the air. There's a fluttering of silk, but it changes, rising - becoming muscular, and dark red...
Valdor finds himself having to duck and dodge, as the men in the camp mill about and blunder toward him, unaware of his presence. There's talk of an imminent journey, and rape, pillage and depravity of the worst kind, coming from the mouths of some of them, while others look on appalled. No sign of the potion stash as yet, but the conversation at the tent is getting louder and into high gear. Suddenly, one of the three 'noblemen' leaps straight into the air. His robes swirl and twist, and with a loud !!CRACK!! - two great, leathery wings emerge and lift him higher into the sky. The dragon's eyes are looking toward the headland.
Falin (AC 20 HP 63) Wednesday November 8th, 2006 8:24:31 AM
Falin, seems to enjoy his newfound senses and relishes in the ability to see, hear, and smell better. All these humans destroying everything around them... What do they know? Their smell is repulsive.
He can almost feel the people around him. He can feel the wind move the individual hairs along his arms and his head. He closes his eyes and smiles as he can hear the crickets in the distance. He can make out the mumblings of the elves around him. He thinks of them and the families left behind in the Culverwood. That image snaps his mind back to the task at hand. His nostrils flare as he gets mad at the situation. Some of these elves would not make it home. He would do everything in his power to make sure that they all made it home, if for nothing else than to have the proper burial.
Falin lays down his bow and draws out his sword. He begins to twirl it in the air as if warming up with it. He smiles a toothy grin and the tought of seeing his enemies fall before him.

Mordrid Wednesday November 8th, 2006 1:02:36 PM
Mordrid looks over his shoulder as he trots away, a hint of a smile on his face as Ve calls Solara out. The cleric was going to be a fine addition to the group; someone who doesn't take crap, pretty smart chap too
At this point the ranger is resigned to do his duty, as convoluted as the situation is. And he leads the forces onward toward the camp. He points out to the others that Falin's to the left and Lian to the right, both leading their half of the line of archers; a line of orcs will serve as skirmishers in advance. The mounted troopers will come up the rear, with instruction to fill forward right thru Mordrid's position in the line. "Don't worry, I'll get out of the way." Their job is to collapse the center line, if a line is formed. "Ofcourse plans could change. We may be required to do a flanking maneuver. The situation will dictate what we do, as no plan survives the first contact with the enemy."
Corialote [shapechange: will-o'-wisp] and Amarth d4+1=3 4d8(3+8+7+8)+6=32 Wednesday November 8th, 2006 3:18:36 PM
If Cori could laugh in her will-o'-wisp form she would as she starts the preparations for casting a spell that will provide a distraction and do some damage at the same time. Her summoning spell will bring into exhistance a number of fire elementals that she plans to set upon the ships.
Amarth can feel the elation through the link that he shares with his Mistress and he sighs. "She is up to no good." He says it loud enough that anyone near him will hear and those that know his origins will know that Cori must be up to something...but what.

Ve Mundr Wednesday November 8th, 2006 3:44:55 PM
Ve listens To Solara, She missed the point, but I did hit her with a lot. "I was asking about your intentions, but I was also asking why an overheard convesation in the enemy camp, the enemy by your direction for us to destroy thier ships I add. Why that enemy directly mentioned you in thier conversation. Not only are you prominently mentioned, but the context suggests you have been in communication with them. Valdor overheard them say 'Is Solara correct? That this is a fighting force - it's intention to sail across the lake and capture the Floating City?' So you being Solara, they would only say that if you had told them that we are a fighting force who intend to sail across the lake and take the Floating City. That is where my question lies."
Ve almost holds his hand in a dismissing manner, but checks himself to a mere grimace "As to my experience against black dragons and those tactics, I am less than concerned. I have adequately prepared for such." Such posing annoyed him, but it his experience with a few dragons and creatures of like power had taught him of tactics of dismissive superiority. This conversation was done especially now with a red dragon closing. He waits to see if Solara does answer and then steps into his own preparations. Casting Protection from Fire and drinking a potion down, he moves up quickly to Mordrid. "Mordrid, I am going to try and trap most of thier army within Walls of Thorns. My immediate actions will be to cut them apart from each other and prevent our archers from being flanked." As he speaks he takes out the bag with the Hydra teeth. "These I think to use as a line breaker. Charge them. Our cavalry can then hit the confused and broken formation, assuming they have one in the first place."

The great red dragon takes to the sky as it leaps and stretches it wings. Great clods of dirt fall from its feet as it rises.
The dragons red eyes seach his own camp for something amiss.
The dragon roars and the two other noblemen spread out and begin to change into red dragons. Neck thicken and wings unfurl as they each gain mass as size. Those around them runn for cover just as they leap into the air. Their wings scooping air and battering those around them.
The dragons circle their camp as they gain altitude, their eyes constantly searching.
Valdor can see the three dragon communicating and gesturing apparently to one another as they rise. The dragons each slap at one another from time to time.
One of the dragons is smaller than the other two.
It looks like the three are up to no good.
K'Nara (AC37, HP 134/134; barkskin; stoneskin) Wednesday November 8th, 2006 7:48:40 PM
K'Nara, having heard Solara explain herself, needs no more convincing: she retrieves first the Barkskin potion and drinks it, then does the same with the Stoneskin potion. She scowls when she hears about the subjugated silver dragon--this is something that has to be dealt with as soon as possible.
After keeping the Big Float from becoming conquered, she would have to ask about how to free the silver dragon...assuming that the silver wasn't killed in the fray.
"I'll keep an eye on Falin and his archers," she offered to Mordrid, "Unless there's someplace else that you or Valdor feel I should be..."

Valdor(Dust of Disappearance, Fire Resistance) Thursday November 9th, 2006 12:53:12 AM
With all the noise, Valdor is unafraid to whisper,"Mordrid, the three are in fact red dragons. They have sensed something and changed into dragon form. I will warn you if they head toward you all. Are the troops in position yet? The camp is in utter chaos and they are surely attacking Floating City. We have enough reason to battle. I am in the camp trying to keep from getting trampled in the confusion."
He stays around a group of people moving around so he won't stand out to any dragon eyes. He's not too concerned if he bumps someone as bodies are more than likely falling about and tripping over each other. He stays in the masses to keep his cover. As he moves, he activates his ring of fire resistance.
Suddenly a thought occurs to him. He attunes his ring to Sturdevant and says,"Stur, I don't know if you can hear me, but we are across the lake from Floating City and there are three red dragons helping the black dragon, along with probably a thousand mercenaries. If you have any connections that you can call on and get here to help us in the next few minutes, it would be great. All chaos is about to break loose. If not, well, speak well of me at my funeral, old friend. Enjoyed our time together. This is Valdor and I'm out."

---------
The air above the camp suddenly comes alive with wings and red flesh. It's both a beautiful and terrifying sight, and power and dread roll through the entire area like twin tidal waves.
Fear causes Cori to catch her breath, mid-spell, forcing her to double her concentration as she creates the elementals. That will make her vulnerable if she's spotted, although her size will help.
Fear hits the elves in a wave, chilling them to the marrow. Only it's familiarity stops them from dropping everything and running. Oh, but this is much more than Parnoth. Much more. And there's something else... Al'thra, one of the young females, is about to offer encouragement to her team, when her eyes sweep toward Falin. Why had he dropped his bow? And by all the trees in Culverwood - his eyes.... his eyes were bright yellow...
Fear makes Mordrid's horse buck slightly beneath him as he leads his troops to battle. Off to one side, he hears Borden curse and check his own mount. Gunther finds he needs both hands to just hang on. There are fearful cries from the surrounding infantry.
As K'Nara, Ve, Olana, Milo, Aeralia, Bertram, Dahlia, Ingrge and Lian and the others move swiftly through the undergrowth, they can all catch glimpses of deadly wings above the tree canopy. Three dragons. Three.
In the camp itself -
Valdor still remains hidden in the chaos, and will probably remain so - until he makes a move.
High above, Nikoli uses the ground thermal to lift him, and he soars with his younger brothers. Three ships, over the other side of the headland, yes - now he could see. Ivan had been correct. And coming toward them - something shifting down in the trees, and distant cries of fear. He quickly goes through his choices, glancing directly below. He didn't necessarily have to put his brothers at risk. Below were just under a thousand of the lesser races, most of them twitching and eager for a fight - any fight. The effect of that herbal potion had been quite startling. Piles of platinum, they'd fight their own mother's right now. All he had to do was give the word. The old man was still out in the lake, so it was his choice.

He arches back and lets out a loud gutteral howl to the sky in anticipation of the battle about to begin.
He feels the wash of the dragon fear and sloughs it off like you would shake rainwater from yourself. He raises his hands into the air and clenches them into fists. His nails bite into his palms and the blood begins to run down his arms. He seems to welcome the fear as it washes over him. All concerns for others and for his own life wash away. Aeralia breathes heavy as everyone begins to prepare, taking some small comfort in Mordrids grasp on her shoulder.
As the others move off in their different directions, Aeralia too heads towards the edge of the woods, though remaining under cover of the canopy. While the elves move into position, Aeralia takes a few moments to cast an invisibility spell upon herself, creeping through the woods closer towards where Lian and his squads of elves lay in wait.
Casting again, the young sorceress conjures forth her illusionary magics, four dozen or so shadowy figures forming within the woods north of Lian's position (OOC: In the batch of trees direction east of the 'big tent' in camp). The illusionary warriors quietly draw their blades, and creep silently towards the woods edge, ready to charge the camp as the first wave.
She knew her illusions couldn't contribute much to the coming battle. But if she could either get them to ignore some of the actual troops through her efforts, or have the enemy waste time on her illusions, then she'd accomplish something at least.

With the main group -
As some of the others dismount after Mordrid's command, Borden holds up his hand, and he and his men remain in the saddle. "You would be safer on horseback," observes the big orc, cocking his head, and wrinkling his wide snout. Obviously he is a little puzzled at the ranger's sensibilities. "These horses have been bred to fight. We have been bred to fight." Birk jostles Gunther's horse and looks at the orc-raised human. You're staying with us, right? his look says.
Nevertheless, some of the men, the humans, let their horses head back toward the beach.
With Mordrid and Ve at the forefront, Nick, Dahlia, Ingrge and Bertram find themselves mingling with this large group, mostly infantry, as they head under the trees toward the clearing.
And before them all, the ground suddenly comes alive with bones, as the hydra's teeth are activated. Arising are the skeletal remains of warriors, some aeons old, others dead only ten years or so. They have a singular purpose - to die gloriously, in battle. Armed with crude swords and sheilds, they line up, waiting. The one already activated back in Izen, and hastily stuffed in a large sack for the journey, struggles to escape and join it's fellows. -------------- A little further to the north east -
Frightened faces look toward Lian for a long moment in the moonlight before they grip their longbows with new resolve. Fear is so prevalent in the atmosphere, the monk can almost touch it. He can see the camp from here - men milling about, some looking up toward the aerial display. Funny how a few of them seem to be as fearful as his own group is, while others look up with smiles, completely unafraid.
Soon they are joined by Aeralia, who appears to have brought reinforements.
---------------
Even further to the north east -
K'Nara, Olana and Milo dash through the undergrowth, arriving just as Falin let's out his tremendous howl. The sound jags sharply into their memory. Koshe Marr....... remember that song.... ? There is a sharp crack - like bone snapping - and Falin drops to the ground like he's been sucker-punched by a Taur. The change is unbelievably fast. Alemi only knows what pain the change has brought to the elf, and at the end of it, a beast crouches there. It's huge, muscular, wolfen, and the aura emanating from it is almost as scary as that borne of the dragons. The other elves stare, horrified, while the beast looks out toward the camp, the scent of those hated humans making it's nostrils flare.
-----------
In the camp -
As Valdor gets ready to go on the offensive, he notices four young men huddled together. They do not appear to have the other men's giddy expectance of battle. Far from it. They look wary of the dragons above, and disgusted at the manic bloodlust around them.
------------
At the shore -
Cori's elementals begin to form, and then slowly drift out onto the water, in order to fulfill their purpose. They'll be joined later by Dahlia's - but that's later.
----------------
Then!
One of the dragons sweeps down and sends forth it's fiery breath weapon. Immediately the trees above the main party are set alight. Lingering there is suddenly NOT an option, as heat and burning leaves start to rain down.
In the camp, there is a roar, a brandishing of weapons, and a shift toward the direction of the fire.
The ragged they come and The ragged they kill! You pray so hard on bloody knees. The ragged they come and The ragged they kill! Down in the cool air I can see.
Falin (shapechanged 121 HP 22 AC) Friday November 10th, 2006 2:35:26 AM Power... For too long he had been the weak one. Succumbing to the numerous attacks made upon him. Always falling before others. Not anymore. He was not the frail one anymore.
The rush takes him as the change takes place. It is painful, but he relishes in it. Almost welcoming it on. If this was the price of his freedom the so be it.
He had always been there inside. The voice that Falin wouldn't listen too. That was too base for a civilized race. Now he had the means to break free and to live. Now he was in control...
ADm Jim: Nikoli, Boris, & Ivan the Red Friday November 10th, 2006 9:13:21 AM
Nikoli burns the tops of the trees and exposes the troops below. The sulfourous smell follows as the dragons pass. The beat of wings only fans the flames.
The three dragons start to lose altitude and it becomes difficult to focus on them.
spellcraft roll of 13 to identify blur spell
Nikoli throws the mail clad humanoid in his claw into the air. The man stabilizes and then begins to fly on his own, he then disappears entirely.
Boris and Ivan hover near the the main force and drop off their charges. It is difficult to see what is happening from the whirlwind kicked up by the two dragons, but as Boris and Ivan claw for altitude it becomes clear.
The two on the ground are rallying their troops forward, banging their swords on their shields and waving their troops forward.
We will see how well they can put to use their recent recon by dragon to good use.
Nikoli, Boris and Ivan form up over their army and scan the surroundings, looking and searching with greedy red eyes.

Before the dragons initiate combat / in response to Borden:
"The horses were not trained and never intended to withstand dragon fear. But do as you wish. Personally, I don't want the mounts consumned in flames." But then again Mordrid is a ranger and perhaps a bit too concerned for the well being of the animals.
Mordrid moves forward five feet, and begins to fire at the largest of the three dragons. ("far shot" feat if necessary, I don't have enough information to determine ranges.)
"Nick, Ve, cast 'silence' centered on my first and second arrows." (Hopefully we can get this in order). + 5 arrows with flame arrow (from vial of flame arrow applied long ago).

Nikoli Blur rolls for Arrow shots from Mordrid if he is even in range?????
Arrow 2 and 6 missed
No fire damage to Red Dragons
Range modifiers may cause arrow 5 to miss also
[REPLY: Jim, I'm at work and do not have books in front of me, but look up the feat "far shot". It might be an epic feet, regardless, we are talking in the range of < 1000 feet with a minimum deduction in to hit. I know... unrealistic, but then again so is a fire breathing dragon. Honestly, I've been given no indication of distance or range, so I don't know if I should be firing or not. PS. why is there an uncharacteristicly large gap between the fifth roll and the sixth roll in the die rolls box?]
ADm Jim: I am at work also. I was surprised to see six shots and stopped mid post to do a quick research. I got interupted and when I came back reset the dire roller to the d20 and rolled. I was thinking of some spot rolls, but this is not an actual post. I actually got higher than the 4 after deleting the roll. I will leave the mistake rolls in the future to avoid any confusion.
I never did find out about the six shots, but then again, I did not have the real resources to look.
I still do not know distances and am not sure your character is within 1000 feet as there were no dimentions on Jan's map. Jan emailed me that she will up date the map on Sunday or Monday as she will be away this weekend.
~~Jan~~ Guys, just sit back, have fun, roll yer rolls and do your thing. I'll determine who hit what. No worries, okay?

K'Nara (AC37, HP 134/134; barkskin; stoneskin) Friday November 10th, 2006 5:09:44 PM
K'Nara's eyes widen as she suddenly--sickenly--remembers that elusive bit of imagery she'd been trying (off and on) to remember:
Falin had been bitten by the werewolves in Harrowed Moon!
K'Nara activates her earclip so that the Platinum Dragons can hear her as she draws her sword from its scabbard and screams:
"Falin is a werewolf! He's just changed!" Then the blade singer proceeds to wave her arms at the snarling wolfen creature. "Al'thra! You and the other archers get away from here--move closer to your targets and attack as planned...the Talons and I will keep Falin busy! MOVE!!!" Even as she bids the young elf to go, K'Nara makes sure to use herself and her movements to keep Falin's attention on herself
Please, gods, she prays inwardly, ...please don't let it be necessary to kill my friend...
Aloud, still trying to make sure that Falin doesn't zero in on the soon-to-be fleeing elven archers, K'Nara bellows the word that makes her sword flare to life:
"Lucia!!!"
Mordrid (Protection from Fire / Electricity, Cats Grace, Holy Aura) AC 39 / hp 231 Friday November 10th, 2006 5:30:21 PM
"No K'nara! Focus, forget him right now. In case you didn't notice, there are three red dragons in front of us!"
The ranger is startled and a bit paniced that the full weight of their groups were not leaning in the same direction. Did they truly not understand the danger they were in? Could they not see his volley, a flight that would bring fear to the gods, all but rejected by the dragon's hide and magic?
After Mordrid's first volley, he looks to his right and left, "you guys had better give me some space. It's about to get really hot around here."
The ranger looks for something in the nearby environment that would provide partial coverage from a full on breath attack.

Adrenline pumping, Gunther spurs his horse forward full speed toward the enemy camp (Ride=11) more than ready for the battle to come.

From the pocket of her pants she retrieves a wand and points it at a number of ships off to the side that the elementals are not on. "I am sorry but this has to be done." She sends a fireball over the top of the ships so that it will explode and catch many in the flames. "Plats...should be with you shortly...just seting a little fire." She cannot help but grimace at the work she has just done.
Amarth just about faints as he sees the fireball in the distance. What is his Mistress doing...cannot she not know the problems she may bring upon herself.

Aeralia (12 [16 vs Evil] AC, 40/40 HP, Disguise Self, Holy Aura, Invisibility) Saturday November 11th, 2006 12:02:15 AM
Seeing Mordid's flaming arrows streak through the air in response to the dragons breath weapon, Aeralia assumes its time. With not but a thought from the young sorceress, her illusionary marionettes spring into performance.
Many dozen figures spring swiftly from the treeline, almost instantaneously forming two ranks. Several dozen men and elves, all dressed in flashy and vicious looking black leather (similiar to their mistress's current atire), all stand side by side, drawing serrated blades and shields. With a battle cry from a large human in the center, the whole lot breaks into a swift run towards the center of the enemy camp, all of the men taking up the cry in hopes to draw some attention from at least a portion of the enemy horde.
The puppeteer moves slowly into the field behind her conjurations, stealthed in invisibility. Her mind races, doing her best to maintain such a large number of warriors, and still keep them looking real, and 'individuals'. The growing darkness of night, and great distances to her audience certainly helped some. She does her best to gauge the distance between her illusions, and sets their speed to reach them in about 12-18 seconds, if it wasn't to entirely unrealistic.
That done, Aeralia leaves the magics of the illusion to takes its course, breaking her concentration once everything was in order.

"Hey--YAH! Follow me, then!" she shouts to the creature and then takes off at a run towards the camp the Platinum Dragons, the Talons and their allies are supposed to be attacking...hoping that the predator's instinct to chase prey will get Falin to follow her...

DM Jan Monday November 13th, 2006 12:50:40 AM
Folks, exact distances and travel is likely to get a bit complicated, so I want to try and simplify things a little, so - take a look at the map (link below) and lets try the following -
Range and Distance rules (applies to friend or foe):
Arena = anywhere on the map Arena is split into 4 quadrants
Air to Air - able to attempt ranged attacks anywhere in arena, airborne melee if in same quadrant. Air to ground (and vice versa) - able to attempt ranged attacks anywhere in arena. Ground to Ground - able to attempt melee + ranged attacks anywhere in same quadrant, ranged attacks in a different quadrant have a 50% chance of failure (chaos of war an' all that).
Movement - Ground to ground - moving from one quadrant to another takes 1 round. Air to ground - anywhere in arena - 1 round. Ground to air - anywhere in arena - 1 round. You can move diagonally. Be mindful of obstacles (eg, wall of thorns).
Be mindful of attacks of opportunity. If two or more travel together, and one is on the defensive, that is likely to avoid a melee attack of opportunity.
Let's give it a try, see how it goes. Let me know if you can't access the map.
Working on DM post now....
DM Jan Monday November 13th, 2006 1:38:36 AM
READ THE ABOVE FIRST
On Map: Blue columns represent the elves, and Aeralia's illusion. The blue arrow = the cavalry. Chris - Milo should be closer to K'Nara and Falin (did map this aft).
Not yet shown and in transition: Dahlia's latest elementals The skeletons.
------------------
Things start to happen. Fast.
The Platinum bowman's arrows fly through the air with a strength and accuracy that comes with experience and practice, and arrows 1,3,4 and 5 slam into Nikoli's hide, hurting the mighty red. One arrow from Ingrge joins the others (Jim needs to roll the blur, tho').
There is no cover here, now that the trees at the southern end are on fire, and Nick, Mordrid, Bertram, Dahlia, Ingrge and Ve are out in the open.
Not too far away, there is a roar of defiance and Borden, Gunther, and the other cavalry go charging into the fray.
On the ground, the earth starts to rip and Ve Mundr's wall of thorns grows rapidly and diagonally across the battlefield. It grows directly alongside Valdor, cutting him off from his comrades, and the four young men close to him start running toward the beach in a panic.
Aeralia's illusion shifts forward, covering the line of elves and the enlarging Lian. The elves start firing at Nicoli. The first attempt misses.
Further north, with the other group of elves, Falin's transformation has the elves there so shocked they're unable to do anything this round. The big lycanthrope goes charging off into the fray, on four legs at great speed, overtaking K'Nara and Milo, as though he's already chosen a target, and will not be dissuaded. He pounds into a man, jaws wide - ripping the man's head clean off with one bite, causing an arc of blood to fire up into the air.
And as Dahlia's earth and fire elementals start to coalesce, her earlier ones join Cori's creatures for the ship burning. The fire ball helps.
----------------------------
Nick, Mordrid, Bertram, Dahlia, Ingrge and Ve find themselves being approached by about 30 of the HORDE, all armed with pointy weapons, but right now they're not charging in for the attack.
Gunther finds himself right in the thick of it, and so far, as some of the HORDE scatter left and right, the cavalry has got the element of surprise. So far...
On his side of the wall of thorns, Valdor can see someone directing the HORDE to run south, then they can get past the wall of thorns. From Cori's point of view, she can see about 200 of the HORDE running straight toward her shouting 'Aaaarrgh!'
10 of the HORDE are gingerly approaching Aeralia's illusion and the giant elf behind it. One throws a spear, that flies straight through the illusions, and embeds itself in the ground about three feet from Lian.
K'Nara and Milo rapidly find themselves in a sticky situation as their friend Falin appears to have attracted a lot of attention. They are now faced by 15 of the HORDE. Two approach K'Nara, swords drawn, one approaches Milo with 2 long knives, who staggers slightly as an arrow hits him in the shoulder. He's not dead yet, tho'. Help is on the way, in the form of the skeleton warriors, but they haven't arrived yet.
And there are the dragons.....
K'Nara (AC37, HP 134/134; barkskin; stoneskin) Monday November 13th, 2006 2:18:30 AM
"Falin's oriented on the right people!" K'Nara yells to Milo. "Let's back it up towards our own people, okay..?"
The blade singer grits her teeth and follows her own orders, backing from the approaching foes towards her allies, but only a speed that keeps pace with Milo, and for as long as he, too, brings the fight closer to where Olana and the others are able to back them up.
OOC: K'Nara can now be considered to be fighting defensively.
Falin (shapechanged 121 HP 22 AC) Monday November 13th, 2006 4:46:20 AM These humans will be the first to fall before me tonite. Thinks wolf-form Falin as he rips the head off his first kill. The taste of the blood seems to invigorate him and he almost smiles.
I will carve a red swath through anyone getting in my way this night. Thinks Falin as he moves quickly between opponents. Rending, clawing, and killing as quickly as he can.
Those looking on see him as you would see a small child who was doing something by themselves for the first time. There seems to be an almost sickening type of glee in the manner that he moves from one person to the next. As if he enjoyes the act of killing just for the sake of killing. This is a far cry from the Falin you once knew...

ADm Jim: Nikoli, Boris & Ivan d100=77 Monday November 13th, 2006 12:52:03 PM
Nikoli takes the 4 arrow hits from somewhere below and they hurt much worse that he anticipated, they are only arrows. Then one more hits home, which is a minor annoyance. The icy blast did not seem to effect Nikoli in the least. In fact, all of the arrows that hit the great beast did not do as much damage as expected.
Nikoli lets out a great roar and starts to wing over as he fades from sight. Moments laters his two brothers also fade from sight.
The smell of brimstone is still in the air and the dragons are still buffeting the air with their wings as they cause turbulence all over the battlefield.

The Protector stands calmly in the open surveying the events as they begin to unfold, but looking over at Nick "Father Nicholas, you should make your way towards our achers. I have things here without issue."
"Mordrid can you see the dragons or do you need assistance in that?"

Aeralia frowns as the spear flies through her illusionary warrior, having hoped they'd be a little more effective then that. Maybe a few of them didn't notice, she hopes, as the illusionary warriors continue to advance.
The young sorceress stops briefly as she watches the wall of thorns burst from the ground, but more importantly, divide the enemy forces. Following suit with that idea, Aeralia moves swiftly east (and south), manuevering south of the combat, and behind the cavalry.
She runs as fast as she can, planning to cast once she's within range.

Nudging his horse forward with his knees (Ride=13), Gunther's double sword appears in his hand after a quick snap of the fingers. Gripping the hilt tightly with both hands, Gunther swings at the nearest horde member. The warrior brings all of this strength to bear down on the recipient of the attack (Power Attack +5), hoping to kill the individual in one blow and perhaps give the others reason to think twice about attacking the calvary (AC31 for 32+2 fire damage).
Brother Bertram AC32 HP 103 12d6(2+3+4+1+2+6+4+4+5+3+1+2)=37 Monday November 13th, 2006 7:53:26 PM
Bertram looks to the horde looking at them, "Well its obvious we are outnumbered and have little chance of success.." He grins wolfishly and then roars, "Let us ATTACK!" He immediately raises a hand, calling Domi's name loudly, calling Holy fire down upon the horde of creatures facing them. (Flame Strike, 37damage, They take 3/4 of that even if they DO save from it being divine)

Valdor decides it's time to make his move as he gets there. He's not concerned as much about the HORDE as he is the leaders. In most battles, disperse the leadership, the rest will fall or change sides quickly enough. With his speed, he manages to close the gap and get off his attacks. He lays into the back of his opponent just as he gives his orders, letting his swords dance.
'Ah but it feels good, the dominating of an opponent,' he thinks briefly. After his brutal attack, however, he shakes his head and says aloud,"Get out of my head." He has no idea where such thoughts come from, but he has to fight and finish this one quickly. Luckily, he stays invisible and steps back and off to the side a few feet, prepared to attack anyone who comes near him.

Olana bellows at the elves.
"Fire!" she yells, "fire at them! Protect the others!" She points at the HORDE coming up on the retreating Milo and K'nara, and then lets loose with her own bow once again.
Hits AC 24, 11, for 7 and 9 damage.
As an aside, it looked to her that Falin could pretty much look after himself. A werewolf? Culverwood's poison ivy....
Some of the HORDE begin to shift toward Quadrant 1 as some terrible, hairy creature tears into their midst. The Falin-beast's aura is saturated in fear, it's immediate surroundings in blood. Some are muttering that they'd rather be eaten by one of the dragons that tackle that thing.
K'Nara and Milo start to move back toward the trees, all the while facing their enemy. That enables them to prepare and meet the attacks by two of the closest men, both with longswords. Man #1 (*thwack* now with one of Olana's arrows in his arm) swings at K'Nara - HITS AC 17, 17 for 8 and 6 dam Man #2 attempts to impale Milo - hits AC 33, 16 for 9 and 6 dam
Why only two men? The others close by are currently ducking a rain of arrows coming from the elves in the trees.
The skeleton warriors start to arrive! Nick Valentine is on his way, but won't reach the immediate area until this next round.
Quadrant 4 -
Aeralia has had to dash all the way down and then toward the shore. She is now able to complete her spell (unless she wishes a change). (It's still a good move.)
Right in the thick of it, the cavalry has stopped a rallying of the enemy, and Borden and his men are laying into the surrounding infantry with every blade they've got.
Gunther's horse buck's slightly as he swings down, chopping deep into a man's shoulder. There are cries of dismay, anger, and pain. It's chaos, here. The horses' nostrils flare with the smell of blood. One man attempts to cut into Gunther with a huge axe. Hits - AC 25 for 8 dam
At the easterm periphery, Aeralia's illusion (that stood between the HORDE and Lian and Aeralia) shimmers and disrupts into thin air as the spear passes through. The HORDE there are dumbfounded, although three of them appear crazy enough to run toward the enlarged Lian and engage with their long knives. Man #1 hits AC 29, 18 for 3 and 2 Man #2 hits AC 17, 24 for 4 and 6 Man #3 hits AC 5, 16 for 4 and 4
The Aisildurian, Brother Nyle attempts to get into position to heal Lian if need be.
At the southern end, 7 of the 30 HORDE suddenly stop 'dead', and their flesh changes colour as Dahlia's horrible 'eyes' do their work. The dark-skinned halfling's new fire elementals arrive, which might, at this point, give either her, or more likely Ingrge, a chance to mull over the idea of handing a FIRE elemental a highly volatile container of powder. The 2 earth elementals emerge from the ground, like two giant blobs of boulders and mud.
Ingrge's arrows streak up into the sky after the big dragon (I'll leave the rolls to Jim on this one.)
Bertram's divine fire shoots down from on high, and 2 of the 30 HORDE stagger back, screaming.
That leaves 21 of the HORDE, all crazed and mindless, to rush toward Ingrge, Bertram, Ve Mundr, Dahlia and Mordrid. Axes and longswords are brought to bear, although not all can get into position immediately.
2 attack Ingrge - hit ac 28, 29 for 9 and 10 dam 3 attack Bertram - hit ac 23, 26 for 6 and 5 dam 3 attack Ve - hit ac 34, 36 for 6 and 10 damage 2 attack Mordrid - hit ac 25, 10 for 8 and 7 dam 2 attack Dahlia - hit ac 18, 32 for 6 and 7 dam
Quadrant 3 -
As the ships burn..... and as Aeralia approaches -
A huge barbarian with a big voice is suddenly, and quite spectacularly, cut into little pieces, right before the HORDE'S eyes. There is a hint of blades, whistling through the air, and the great man's axe drops with a thud, along with his head, onto the ground. Then a fireball comes out of nowhere - exploding into the crowd, the will-o-wisp that sent it, just an unnoticable speck in the air. This brings on a similar level of chaos whipped up by Borden's cavalry on the other side of the thorn wall. Is Valdor correct? Can some of these men be turned?
To those engaged in melee, it becomes apparant that some of these men look to be nothing but raw recruits at their first battle, swinging their weapons wildly without much clue. Some look scared, others have that potion-induced crazed look. However, a quick scan will show that perhaps there are some seasoned warriors out there, and whichever way you look at it, any of these men could prove to be a distraction from the real threat. A deadly distraction...

Falin (shapechanged 121 HP 22 AC) Tuesday November 14th, 2006 4:06:17 AM The ground will run red with the blood of my enemies... Falin moves from person to person cutting a swath of death and destruction. I can smell the fear roll off of them. Weaklings all of them. They do not deserve to breathe the same air as I.
The sound of bone cracking and of muscles tearing fills Falin will an odd sense of satisfaction. It invigorates him and drives him to higher and higher levels of carnage. Soon the ground is littered with body part. Their screams are like music to me, their blood like the sweet nectar of the gods. I shall gut them like cattle and feed upon their entrails.
Falin lets out a deep howel into the night. He feels a little disappointment that this is the best they have. He lets out another howel of challenge. Hoping that if any of these humans are worthy enough they come forward.

Valdor(AC37, HP 284,Fire resistance, Dust of Disappearance) Tuesday November 14th, 2006 2:45:12 PM
Valdor grimaces as the barbarian hits the ground in pieces. Those of his group might hear an accidental whisper,"Why couldn'tI be good at fixing instead of destroying."
A moment later, however, he is all business. He booms out to the horde anywhere near him,"YOU ARE ALL DOOMED IF YOU FOLLOW THESE EVIL DRAGONS! WE WILL LEAVE NONE ALIVE WHO FOLLOW THEM. THEY BROUGHT YOU ALL HERE TO DIE, NOT FOR RICHES AND GLORY, BUT TO OPEN THE WAY FOR THEM TO CONQUER OTHER HUMANS. YOU ARE THEIR FODDER IN THIS BATTLE! YOU SAW WHAT I DID TO YOUR STRONGEST WARRIOR AND THAT WAS NOTHING! WE ARE DRAGONS, BUT NOT EVIL ONES! JOIN US OR YOU ALL DIE TODAY! I AM VALDOR THE DRAGONSLAYER AND THE TIME TO CHOOSE IS NOW!"
Valdor waits for only a moment. He looks around, knowing that the dragons will be coming. His grip on his red dragon slaying sword will give him a little notice. He invisibly moves closer to the HORDE and watches, looking for any dissenting voice nearby. He holds his attacks and will silence anyone who voices opposition.

Nick dashes toward the northern group (K'Nara, Olana, Milo) of elves, his breath ragged, and full of dismay at how easily he could be winded these days.
And not a moment too soon...
C'mon, old man... hurry it up, people are dying.
He wastes no time with exclamations or chit chat. "Blessed Alemi, lend us your strength at this desperate moment."

Milo (AC 29, 30 vs. Ivan; hp 88/96) Wednesday November 15th, 2006 2:25:40 AM
Milo grunts as he is struck by the pesky human, and the halfling appears momentarily annoyed as he turns to deal with the minor threat. However, as he is snatched from the ground by the dragon, the halfling has a look of sheer panick in his eyes. Screaming out to Olana with what breath is left him, "The bracelet...!"

The HORDE in this area continue to migrate south. On clearer ground Falin finds himself surrounded by a ring of spear carriers. One of them gets lucky, and a long, sharpened shaft of wood slams into the werewolf's shoulder. Lucky is perhaps not the correct word, for the creature leaps onto the man and begins to disembowel him while he's still alive. It's enough of an atrocity to have the remaining men give up and join their brothers heading south. And it is in the midst of this horrible carnage that something in Falin recognizes a scent other than blood, entrails and bile. To the north, in the dark, a pack has arrived. They are crouched low, watching with caution, their eyes shining eerily bright from reflected moonlight and fire. --------------------------- Quadrant 2
In the midst of fire and pain, Nick's healing spell washes through; Alemi's blessed balm doing much to heal the damage done. However, flames are beginning to dance through the trees, and some of the elves are not rising. Milo feels like his chest is beginning to cave in, and for a dizzying moment he is aloft, catching glimpses of the entire battlefield in between the beats of leathery wings. but then there's a sharp turn and drop. There's Olana - her bow raised (did she hear him?), and there's the flash of K'nara's sword as it slashes into one of the enemy. Closer, faster -
Ivan the dragon is suddenly right in Olana and K'Nara's faces, batting aside the horde, obliterating the view with wings, teeth and claw.

Quadrant 3
Aeralia, her illusion giving the impression the southern passage is entirely walled off by thorns, arrives in time to hear Valdor's voice bellowing out over the heads of men. To the west, flames leap high in the air as half the ships are now ablaze. Things are shifting, fanning the fire out there, and she can feel the impressive heat radiating against her skin. There seems to be a disturbance out there, also - only beneath the water, and small waves reach shore and begin to break and roll.
From Cori's viewpoint, her dark elven eyesight catches the grand view, watching a streak of lightning fire into the air from the burning tree line to the south, and then - two of the dragons come down to the east. Of the big one? It circles high above, waiting under a glittering cloak of invisibility.
As for the HORDE this side of the thorn wall - Valdor has them spellbound for a few beats. Where did that voice come from? Who was it? Something frightening, going off the carnage spread at their feet. It has them enraptured. Right up until 2 of the Earth Elementals blunder through the thorn wall from Quadrant 4, tossing bodies left and right as they go. That's it. The HORDE turns and runs. But where?? Fire out to sea. Thorns to the south. Everyone starts to run north - right into their oncoming brothers running away from the wolf. ------------------------
Quadrant 4 -
At the southern end, Mordrid, Ingrge, Ve, Dahlia and Bertram have organized themselves into a tight fighting unit - Mordid and Ingrge protected by the formidable melee power of Dahlia, Ve and Bertram at the front. ((Well done, guys.)) This means this group is far from being pinned down, and can start to advance if they want to. Ingrge's lightning bolt slices upward through the air, suggesting to Mordrid that perhaps the dour, white-robed elven spellcaster beside him can see what is where, even though he can't. To Ingrge, the big dragon in the sky seems to be moving erratically.
Further ahead, the cavalry are busy engaging the HORDE. The sheer mass of bodies are starting to pry the mounted formation apart. Gunther sees two men drop because of his attacks, but others are there to take their places. The violence has punched adrenalin to ridiculous levels, to the point where it's almost like some kind of intoxicating dance in slow motion. Birk's horse is rearing, riderless, but Gunther can see Borden still in the saddle, perfectly balanced, dealing death with twin war hammers. He can also see Brother Michael, red robes splattered dark, leaning forward, touching and healing one of the riders. And in the midst of it all - some great hulking barbarian walks right up with a monsterous hammer and brings it down in a great arc - Attempting to hit Gunther for AC 36 and 34 for 16 and 18 damage.
((Nellie, I just noticed. I haven't put your name on the map! The position triangle is there, tho'.))
However - not to be outdone - Boris the dragon comes around, and flashes into visbility. Below him, the nimble and extremely adept elf Lian is busy kicking and pummeling all who come near. He's doing a good job, too. Behind him, one of the Aisildurian clerics is dragging toasted elves out of danger from the burning treeline. **WHAM** The great beast comes into land, right on top of Lian. Or at least, that's the plan! ((Reflex DC 24 to avoid getting pinned, Jay.))
Valdor(AC37, HP 284,Fire resistance, Dust of Disappearance, Cloak of Arachnid) Wednesday November 15th, 2006 7:16:10 PM
Valdor looks around, glad noone can see the confused look on his face. When the HORDE takes off, he looks around and sees the dragon Boris a little ways of and decides he's had enough of the small fighting and says out loud,"It's time to take out these dragons."
He takes off at a dead run towards the hole the elementals just made in the thorn wall. He sprints as fast as he can and prepares to launch himself at the dragon attacking Lian.
Brother Bertram AC32 HP 92 Wednesday November 15th, 2006 7:32:52 PM

K'Nara feels the balm of Nick's healing just before the pain of snapping dragon teeth! In retaliation, the tall blade singer whirls her sword at the huge dragon head in front of her, attempting to change this particular dragon's name to "One-Eye"..!
(OOC: In order: Nick's Mass Cure spell restored K'Nara to her full 134hp while Ivan's bite on her knocked her back down to 117 (does her stoneskin reduce that damage, though?)--then she hits AC35 for 17hpd & 5hp fire damage (which I didn't do in order, sorry!) K'Nara's second attack is a possible Crit Hit at AC35 (natural 20! woohoo!) with AC31 as the next determining roll. Shifting back into the form of a harpy she pulls out a rod from the pocket of her pants. With a smile she points it at the hidden dragon. A brilliant bolt of pure lightning shoots from the end of the rod as she channels her spell through it.
Amarth meanwhile has seen enough and decides to use a spell of his own to help out the best that he can. He flies over to land upon the shoulder of Dahlia and talks in her ear. "My Mistress said to aid as needed...you will find what I do next rather useful." He chuckles to himself as he sets himself for what he must do next.

Gunther barely even notices the attack by the axe wielding person. The stone surrounding his skin absorbs almost all the damage from the first attack, and the second bounces harmlessly off his floating shield. Keeping tabs on the combat around him, Gunther catches sight of Lian's plight. He calls out to Borden in orcish. "Sir, we need to break out of this rabble and help with the dragons. I recommend that we overrun these pathetic distractions and engage the dragon over there (Gunther points to where Lian is struggling with the dragon)." Without further discussion, Gunther urges his warhorse forward (I am assuming Gunther's mounted on a light warhorse). (Ride=13) Gripping the reigns with his off hand, Gunther urges his mount to push past the warrior blocking their way (Overrun=13...3Str+4Size -4Penalty, In case it's needed, Reflex roll=nat.20). If the fighter either moves out of his horses way or is knocked over (Fighter's Overrun=10+Str-4Size...so needs a 24 or 25 Str. to win), Gunther spurs his horse on full speed toward the dragon's side.
Falin (shapechanged 121 HP 22 AC) Thursday November 16th, 2006 1:51:53 AM These pathetic creatures are not even adept enough to cause me harm Thinks Falin as the spear drives into his side. Brushing aside the spear like a child would bat a fly away he is upon the man and easily finishes him off.
Falin slows for a moment and seems to pan the horizon, sniffing the air. What is that? Something I haven't sensed since.... It seems so familiar, yet distant...
Falin, seems to smile as he howels out into the night. Falin had never been a religious man in the past, but now, on this night, he chuckles on the inside as he arranges meetings between all of these men and their makers.
Aeralia (12 [16 vs Evil] AC, 40/40 HP, Disguise Self, Holy Aura, Invisibility) d20+16=36 d20+9=26 Thursday November 16th, 2006 2:05:28 AM
Aeralia listens to Valdor's words, and really sees where her part in this battle might lie. She can see the confused, frightened in some cases, looks on these warriors that were supposedly her enemy. Scanning the area quickly, she picks a more open area, closer to the sea, which might be towards the back of the ranks. She hopes a sudden 'appearance' might go unnoticed for the most part.
Once selected, the young sorceress closes her eyes, forming the images in her mind quickly. Once envisioned, the sorceress mentally whispers the magical words to bring her vision into reality. A few warriors, just shy of a dozen, materialize in Aeralia's chosen location, behind most of their fleeing 'comrades'.
"Wait, my comrades, his words ring true!" a tall, scruffy looking warrior hollers very loudly over the surrounding chaos. "Can't you see we are being used, as I now see?!? We need not their 'potion' to see true courage! Nor to see the right path that now lay before us! Let us forge our own future, at our terms, and not at the will of these treacherous dragons!! Whos with me!?!" With that he draws his blade and swiftly moves a few feet back from the rest of the horde, giving a clear perspective he stands away from the others general movement, offering a new choice of allegance.
After a moment of brief thought, the scruffy warrior is joined by the rest of Aeralia's illusionary warriors, whom appear to have been swaid by the short speech.

Quadrant 1
To the south of the big werewolf lies confusion - men in numbers, pushing against their fellows coming in the opposite direction. To the north, and half the size of him, his starving bretheren have snuck forward. One stands, eyes on Falin, cautious and wary, while the others start to drag away a corpse. --------------------------- Quadrant 2
The deadly, constricting grip on Milo is suddenly gone, and the halfling finds himself right beside Olana and tumbling after a hard push. K'Nara is on her feet, her sword swinging amidst scales and teeth. It's all Milo can see, like the entire Wold has been blocked out by the great hulk of the dragon.
Arrows suddenly appear from behind, some of them embedding well in the creature's hide.
Then, there is a whisper, like a Holy breeze past the ear, and suddenly all the hurts subside.
Unfortunately, it's followed by something else, as IVAN, now with a big scar on his snout, suddenly rears up and blasts the immediate forward area with another cone of deadly fire.
The flames light up the night sky.
Breath Weapon 62 DAM K'Nara, Milo, Olana, Nick - Reflex DC26 for half
The fire hits the ground behind the adventurers and flows around the tree trunks. It gets so hot that even parts of the ground catch fire. The air suddenly becomes very thin as the flames draw on it to survive, and what oxygen can be had, is dry and catches in the throat. Everyone has maybe two more rounds before they burst into flames merely from the heat. --------------------------------- Quadrant 3
Cori's jag of lightning lances up into the sky toward NIKOLI, highlighting faces below that are streaked with blood and confusion. Approximately 27% of the men in this quadrant have stopped, and are now looking toward Aeralia's illusions. "But what about those things?" screams one of them, jabbing a slightly buckled shortsword in the direction of one of the formidable earth elementals, that is calming working its way north, pounding anything that moves to a pulp as it goes.
While Aeralia concentrates, Cori is perhaps in more of a position to see a tiny figure stood at the shoreline, looking out to sea. Looks like a very young human, female possibly. Wasn't there a moment ago....
--------------------------- Quadrant 4
For Gunther, it's a struggle to get his horse around, but get it around he does, managing to shove past the hammer-wielder. Because of the noise, it's hard to tell whether Borden has heard him or not. But the big orc is still very much busy with matters at hand, pounding skulls with his twin hammers. Then, there's a large flash of lightning in the sky, immediately followed by a huge blast of fire somewhere in the battlefield to the north east. All around, the fighting still rages, and here it seems he has a choice to make. Or has he made it? (Assuming Gunther is heading for BORIS)
Dashing through the tangle of broken thorns, Valdor has to be nimble as he makes it into this quadrant. The dead lie all around, men and horses, and the fighting still rages. Steel clashes with steel, all too often meeting flesh. It's a bloodbath. Captain Brown's still alive, and he can see Gunther in the midst of it, too. The lightning flash catches it all for a moment, in all it's terrible glory
To his left, to the north, the air erupts in fire. While straight ahead -
Lian is not about to be sat on by BORIS, and dodges swiftly to one side. The elf then leaps forward, in an attempt catch hold of the great beast and start pummeling. It starts well enough, Lian's hits are accompanied by a hail of arrows from the trees, one or two of them embedding deep in the creature's hide, but Boris has other ideas, his great mouth opening wide.....
Attack - snatch, hold and bite down = AC61 Double bite damage (no claw attacks) = 33
Did Boris bite down twice as hard because he wanted to? or because -
From the rear, all six of Mordrid's shots slam hard into Boris's rear, accompanied by a rather nasty bolt from Dahlia's crossbow.(Fort save 36)) Rescue has arrived! But are they in time??
Bertram and Ve, now the vanguard, continue to press back the HORDE in this quadrant as Mordrid, Dahlia and Ingrge get to work on the dragon. Soon, a wall of men and shattered weapons stands before this group of five, and attacks cease. Their faces are a mixture of fear and incredulity. Then, one of them points at Ve Mundr's chest. "Look! A holy man! They are blessed by Domi!" Uncertainty joins the swaying sea of emotions.
Note: Can Mordrid see Cletis? He can see 'something', something small, but the sky is busy with air elementals.
Brother Bertram AC 32 HP 92 Thursday November 16th, 2006 7:41:16 PM

These people are leading you to your doom. Stop this idiocy and join us. I give you my word as a priest of Domi that we mean you no ill. We give you safe haven or slaughter, the choice is yours But you need to decide now." As if on cue, The large earth elemental lumbers up coming to a halt as Bertram motions him to hold.
K'Nara (AC37, HP 134/103; barkskin; stoneskin) d20+16=31 d100=49 Thursday November 16th, 2006 8:28:25 PM
Once again, K'Nara finds herself healed and then partially-parboiled by the dragon's follow-up attack.
Cursing profusely, the tall blade singer reaches her left hand up and stuffs it into the top of her haversack, whipping out a beaten brass bottle. There seems to be wisps of smoke puffing out from around the stopper, which she unceremoniously seizes in her teeth and pulls out from the bottle...

Cori only takes the time to glance in the direction of the beach where she thought she saw a female form. She strains her vision for a few seconds to try and figure out if that is truely what she is seeing. She once again starts weaving a spell as and tosses a pinch of powdered crystal into the air. She shapes a wall of force above the dragon, Nikoli...and wonders if it will stay suspended in the air. Speaking into here earpiece she give a warning to all those that can hear her that are below the area. "There maybe a rather nasty wall falling from the sky real soon...not sure how this spell works in the air."
Amarth is not really ready for the blink but has his mind on other things. When they both come back into normal space he sets his spell upon Dahlia. This makes him look like a floating raven...a weird sight to say the least.

The ranger takes another five steps forward whilst still pelting Boris' flank.
He takes notice of the small shape in th sky, however with everything going on, he has no way of differentiating friend from foe. By no means is the speck in the sky more important than the dragon before him.
The carnage and confusion in the general area, Mordrid is blind to, as there are still dragons about. Only red dragons, of all their kin, would fight with such violent abandon. Most dragons would have left to fight another day; unacceptable their hordes left unattended in death.

Valdor arrives on the scene just as Boris clamps down on Lian. He booms out,"Wyrm, you have brought about your death by attacking my friends! It is time to die! My sword will enjoy your blood! Take your last breath."
He figures the monk is dead if he doesn't finish it in a hurry. He notices all the arrows with much satisfaction and lays into the red dragon with a fury.
After his attacks, he steps back just a bit and admires the hole he just put in the dragon holding Lian and prepares for the forthcoming attack if the dragon isn't dead.
He exclaims,"By Domi's hammer, I love fighting red dragons! Everyone give a quick account of their status!"

Falin lets out another howel at the shapechangers lurking in the shadows.
He then turns and continues to decimate the humans. Falin rips a mans spine clean out and continues to ebat him with it. Another swings at him with little effect other than to enrage him further. He reaches out and rips the mans arms from his body and uses them as clubs for a while before groing bored with that.
This is becoming too easy. I must find something that will give me greater joy in killing. Something that could challenge what I have become.
Ve Mundr AC 43 HP 224 Friday November 17th, 2006 9:56:20 AM
The dragon is handled, the battle is in hand, there were greater concerns. Ve address the men before him, "I am Ve Mundr, Protector and Hierophant of Domi. My brother speaks the truth. Those who offered you adventure and coin seek to use you in murder and the fouless of deeds. You have been lied to and decieved with drug by the vileless of dragonkind."
His voice grows louder, "I am Ve Mundr! Member of the Platinum Dragons and by oath of god and hero I swear I have no desire to harm any of good heart lead here by lies and false promises of glory."
With a word and gesture, Ve grows to just over 12 feet. "I am the voice of Domi! Glory, honor and eternal fame can still be yours. To say, 'On this day, we stood beside the Platinum Dragons and the Emerald Talons and pushed back the night.' To say 'It was I who stood at arms with Valdor and K`Nara to defeat the evil which threatened to claim our fair lands!" With this last, Ve puts his great Brilliant Energy hammer into the air with a mighty thrust and bellows "Who stands to be counted with us!"
Hoping a mental command is enough Ve attempts to form up the skeletons and break thier attack to a defensive posture.

"Give them room, and offer no reason to attack!" the tall warrior yells back to those whom raise question. "Stand here, with me, unified together, and denounce our allegence to these beasts, " motioning towards the dragon over the hedge, "and instead, show that we band together in our loyalty to each other! Then we can listen to the words of these others," now motioning to the gigantic Brother Bertram peeking over the hedge, "or defend ourselves as need be. Let it be our choice to fight for what we believe in! But first let us show them that our will is of our own, and not these scaled monsters!"
The scrufy warrior motions the other horde members to join him where he stands, and the other illusions move back some, making room for others to join their cause.
Aeralia, in the mean time, hustles towards her illusionary puppets, though making sure she stays clear of the horde people around her. The newly arrived pack of wolves become a little more bold, and grab another corpse. They can't believe their luck, for providing nothing goes horribly awry, they will feast well tonight. Further to the south, Falin's killing spree begins to take a downturn. Fatigue is beginning to take it's toll, making the big werewolf's shoulders heave. The hunger for blood has reached saturation point; the utter delight at the terror caused is now suffering from the law of diminishing returns. And there are distractions now - fire and smoke, and heavy air and the threat of a storm coming in from the lake. This brings forth a deep, natural wariness.
Amidst the throng of men in this quadrant, are six - taller and broader than the rest. Clad in skins, armed with greatswords, their patience is wearing thin. "My future wife could fight these weaklings barehanded!" "Your future wife is not yet ten years old, Roki!" "Aye! Exactly. These are boys and farmers. Not warriors." "They are running from something." "Well, let's see what it is! I tire of being shuffled about!" --------------------
Quadrant 2 -
The fight with the red dragon, Ivan, continues. The surrounding heat is approaching unbearable levels, and the dragon crouches there as if taking a nice, pleasurable bath in the flames. One of Olana's arrows sticks in the beast's flesh, accompanied by more arrows from the burning trees. Milo lands square on his feet, free of damage, although its getting awfully hot beneath his boots.
Then, the stopper flies off the genie bottle, and a curl of dark yellow smoke erupts from it, gathering swiftly and coalescing into large, dark red-skinned figure. The evil emanating from it adds to the dragon fear, curdling the air with dread and misery. "What's that stench?" howls the Efreeti, bad tempered and fists clenched, as Nick's healing spell slices through the air.
It's at this point that Ivan, not to be outdone by a stupid genie, reaches forward and attempts to grab K'Nara and cram her into his mouth. Snatch attack AC 65 other claw attack AC 41 Bite attack AC 58

Quadrant 3 -
Tis both a blessing a curse, a wizard's penchant for experimentation. Results can sometimes be glorious and beyond expectation, and at other times... High in the air, the Wall of Force starts to take shape, only to be disrupted by the air elementals trying to make life difficult for Nikoli. The spell, unfortunately, disintegrates. Below, Cori's enhanced vision of the young figure on the beach reveals tiny silver scales, etched on the girl's features. The girl is still staring out into the lake.
On the ground, men start flocking toward the illusionary heralds. In the face of death and confusion, here was confidence and direction. Men raise their weapons and cheer. "What should we do?!"
The HORDE in Quad 3 are now on the side of the allies.
---------------
Quadrant 4 -
Lian feels the dragon's teeth grinding through his innards. The pain is unbearable. Even though his fists and feet bring blood to the dragon's jaw, the grip is terrifying, and unmoving. But then there's another jolt. And another. The grip weakens considerably as Ingrge's spell is cast. Mordrid's arrows hammer home, while Dahlia's crossbow bolt, embedded in Boris's flesh, starts to fester. Then the cutting begins, deadly and merciless as both Valdor and Gunther, their weapons singing with joy, slice with the efficiency of butchers. Boris is dead in seconds.
Brother Nyle, the Aisildurian rushes forward and attempts to dislodge the great beast's teeth from around Lian's middle. "Someone help me!" the cleric cries. When free, he'll cast CURE CRIT WOUNDS on Lian. 39 HPs.
As for the horde, all of those at the southern end of this quadrant are listening to Brother Bertram and Ve Mundr. There is a moment, as faces covered in grime and blood think things over. "Aye!" shouts someone, raising a spear. "Aye!" yells the HORDE. "What should we do?"
The HORDE in Quad 4 are now on the side of the allies. At least those still alive....
For the anger of Nikoli has boiled over, and he spirals down, away from the air elementals and hovers above the northern section of this quadrant. With a deafening roar, he sends down a blistering column of flame, right into the midst of the cavalry and those fighting on foot. The fire hits the ground and spreads laterally. Flesh curls, and bones blacken. The screams of both horses and men are terrible, unbearable and will haunt everyone for months afterward.
As for the SKELETONS, they're battling away, up in the southern part of Quadrant 2, ensuring, so far, that the fight with Ivan up there is a private affair. (Daniel, Ve will need to get closer to give verbal instructions.)

With but a thought, her clothes and visage shift to match that of her illusion, so when she dismisses it, she would look like him.

Valdor says into his earring,"If I don't answer after this fight, you'll have to dispel the magic of my dust of disappearance to find my body...just thought you should know. Of course, I could be anywhere within a mile or ten."
He prepares for the dragon to try to bite at him, so he keeps himself behind the base of its neck and will move to keep it from being able to get to him with its jaws.
(Of course, the dragon won't know that he has a cloak to keep himself planted on its back:)-just a reminder)

Nick (HP 143/167 AC 36) Tuesday November 21st, 2006 11:09:05 AM
Nick glances back at the trees, hoping the elves there had the wits to get out, but just in case - "Move!!" he yells. "I can't heal you unless we stay in distance and I need to get out of the flames!" He points sharply beyond the dragon and then starts to move while the thing is chewing on K'Nara. Hang on there, girl....
He's hoping the elves aren't scared of that thing that just arrived out of the genie bottle. It's evil presence was almost as bad as the dragon.
Not having had a reply from Valdor was also worrying him. Was everything all right down the field? Maybe it wasn't. Nevertheless he tries again.

Quadrant 1 -
The incoming storm brings a damp chill into the surrounding air, despite all the flames off shore, and it's dark clouds combine with the smoke to muddy the sky and block out the moons. The blind rage within Falin starts to wane, trickling away slowly, like sand. There is movement ahead, a shift in the mindless crowd as six big figures push their way through. They are not afraid, these butchers, and the scent of a dead wolf pelt drifts across the trampled ground from one of them. Falin hears a bark, coming from behind him. The wolf pack are leaving, dragging the corpses with them. The one who stood guard is looking at him with glassy eyes. Are you coming, brother?
----------------------------- Quadrant 2 -
As Nick, Olana and Milo get out of the flames and into flanking positions, the efreeti stands there with it's head cocked to one side, all 12 feet of it, not batting an eyelid amidst the deadly heat, it's dark red skin colour shifting like fire in a hearth. It grins at K'Nara. "You sure you want me to, girl?" Something makes it let out a great belly laugh, but then it folds it's arms and looks at the dragon.
Telepathy Hey, tell you what - if you spit out that cute little chicky, I'll distract them enough to let you escape. How about that? I mean your brothers aren't doing too well, if you know what I mean, and there comes a time when you have to think about yourself. So how about it?
Olana, Milo and Nick see the big dragons head swing toward the south, where the rest of the battle rages, and K'Nara gets a grand old view of it while still clamped in Ivan's jaws. Dragon blood is beginning to drip onto her armour, but it hasn't released it's grip yet. Still - it has hesitated. As to why? Only the dragon and the efreeti know.
Bite Damage on K'nara - 23
----------------------------------
Quadrant 3 -
Aeralia becomes one with her illusionary leader, and she has to keep her wits about her as the crowd surges forward into Quadrant 4 with a big cheer, their weapons aloft. There they mingle with the rest of the HORDE there, led by Brother Bertram and Ve Mundr. Some of this group however stay back and stride toward those gathered at the northern edge of this quadrant, where a heated argument begins, accompanied by lot's of pointing and gesticulating.
Meanwhile, Cori swoops down to join the girl humanoid on the beach. The child turns and smiles. One side of her face has sustained massive damage; it's an old wound, and the resulting scar tissue has pulled and distorted the left side of her face into something terrible to behold. The ruin continues down the shoulder and along the left arm, and it is the claw-like hand at the end of that arm that points out toward the lake. If Cori looks in that direction, she can see something floating in the water, something flat, and big, and grey.
-----------------------------
Quadrant 4 -
With Boris down, all eyes turn to the destructive, murderous Nikoli, hanging in the sky, his massive red wings blotting out the view. Directly below the dragon lies a field of fire and the sickening stench of cooked meat.
The horror of it causes Gunther's horse to falter violently and pitch him to the ground.
Valdor alights on the back of the dragon, surefooted amongst the rippling scales between the beating wings. Lightning skitters across the creature's back, followed by an icy cone of cold that makes the big warrior shiver and sets his teeth on edge. Right after that he feels the massive hammer blows of Mordrid's arrows, and the creature shudders and falters. Nikoli banks sharply and starts to gain height. His rhythm is flawed as he climbs, but climb, he does. Valdor's sword is clamouring for blood in his head, fighting for attention alongside the nearly uncontrollable bloodlust borne of the pit creature. And if that wasn't enough - Telepathy, bitter and angry from Nikoli - I know you, dragonkiller. You think this will lead to glory? You think you've won? You will win nothing this day. Nothing but a curse on your children, and their children, too!
On the ground, arrows from the HORDE fire upward, hoping to catch Nikoli as he ascends. Brother Bertram and Ve Mundr move forward as if swept by a tidal wave. For this was now the HORDE OF DOMI, and both adventurers can feel the power of it, righteous and mighty. They are joined by some of the HORDE rushing through a gap in the wall of thorns, from Quadrant 3.
On a practical level, the dragon Nikoli is out of reach to those on foot. However, there is still much work to do - a battle still rages at the northern edge of this quadrant - an obstacle between them and the other dragon, Ivan. Here a small but intense war rages, between some of the potion-crazed HORDE and the Skeleton warriors. Lian gets his tooth. From his position, he can see Nikoli rising into the sky, and the HORDE OF DOMI surge toward the north.
Falin (shapechanged) Tuesday November 21st, 2006 1:50:04 PM So tired... Used up all my energy on these whelps. If I fall I will only be made weak again.
He looks longingly at the pack turning to leave. Freedom, security, and strength in the pack are all thoughts that cross Falins mind while he watches.
He looks back across the battlefield. He has grown strong beyond the capabilities of these humans. A small postion of him wants to stay for some reason, but he quickly shakes the thought from his head. He turns and runs from the field of battle. He runs to the pack. He runs to his freedom...
As he gets to the top of the hill and stands next to this pack he looks down one more time at the field and lets out a howel. This one is different from the others. It is a long and dreadful cry. Almost sad really. He then turns and runs with the pack.
Valdor(AC37, HP 284,Fire resistance, Dust of Disappearance, Cloak of Arachnid) Tuesday November 21st, 2006 2:34:09 PM
Valdor says aloud to the dragon and with his earring activated for his group to hear,"I will make you an offer dragon. I care nothing for glory. I am beyond that concern now. What I am concerned about is the black dragon you follow. Tell me his plan and where he is and I'll spare you. If you are leaving the fight and will set me down safely, I will spare your life and you will be free to return to your gold. Otherwise, I will be forced to finish you now. If you wish to have part of his treasure hoard, you could assist us in this fight with him. You know we will kill him if he fights us so you really can't lose in helping us. Make your choice or you force my hand. And the height we are at is of no consequence to me, so falling from up here doesn't scare me."
Part of the huge warrior is longing to plunge his sword deep into the dragon. More dragon kills would only add to his fame, especially way up here...to have the others see the dragon they thought had escaped come falling from way up high...oh how awesome that would be...power, he has so much and this kill would only increase his stature to everyone watching...
He violently shakes his head. "I am in control here, not you!" he tells his sword mentally. "We wait for his answer and don't get mad if he makes the smart choice! You have tasted enough blood today, I hope."

Cori slips back into her drow form and gazes upon the silver dragon woman. Her eyes do not show any signs of horror or pity for the young woman that stands there. She has seen many things of this nature and worse...she is a drow, one of the original evil races. "Do you seek freedom sister or do you now wish to serve beyond all else?" Her eyes stay locked with the young woman as she waits for a reply.
She does follow the gaze out to the ocean and shakes her head. "Did he do this to you...has he made you hard and as cold as he is?" The voice is there in the back of her head...coaxing her to take the possible power here. "Freedom or death is at your door right now knocking...the choice is yours and you only have to ask." She turns her head ever so slightly to take in the young dragon woman, her gaze still never waivering. She waits and ponders her foes or friends next move with calculated need.
Amarth stays hidden and out of the way of the flames as best he can. He does not really want to be found roasted alive and he will not get into direct combat...he is not that type of familiar.

The six barbarians watch as the large wolf-creature slopes off to join what looks like a pack of lupine scavengers taking advantage of all the dead meat lying around. "They breed them big around here." "Eh, wolves in our neck of the woods are as big - and they have thicker coats." "Okay, so now what? I'm that hungry, that ribcage over there is starting to look mighty tasty." Laughter. "We find out what's going on, and stay out of the way of those dragons. Unless it's too cold for you." More laughter. The men rejoin a gathering throng of about 150 men, where the word is going around about the strangers, and Domi, and that perhaps they'd been misled.
As for the wolf pack, they move fast. Away from the smoke, away from the men, away from the dragons. They have what they want, and as for the newcomer and his status, well - that would have to be fought over at some point.
------------------------
Quadrant 2 -
Lian's attempt to catch the dragon's eye is lost in the chaos, not to mention the altitude. Did he see a shimmer on the back of the beast as it banked over and climbed into the sky? Maybe he did.
Because the CRAZED HORDE are now focussed on the approaching HORDE OF DOMI, Dahlia, Mordrid and Lian manage to dash over ground littered with corpses and skeleton warrior bones into Quadrant 2 (ready for melee and ranged attacks).
And there before them, with the forest aflame, and patches of the ground on fire, is IVAN.
On this side of the monster, they can see Nick reciting something, and the diminutive Milo, hacking away like a demon butcher at the dragon's flank. (Olana and some of the elves are at the far side). They can also see that Ivan has K'Nara firmly gripped in his teeth and is shaking her like a rat. There is also another creature stood there, something that looks nasty and extraplaner and firey and twelve feet tall.
Ivan rears up, blood dripping from his mouth, and hurls a massive punch toward the twelve foot efreeti. His wings also flip out smartly on either side, aiming to batter down those who are attacking his flanks. The right wing merely parts Milo's hair but aims to slam hard against that pesky cleric.

Here on the shore, the girl taps a finger against her own mouth. With this ruined face, it's hard for Cori to tell whether this dragon child has understood her or not.
But then she leaps into the air, sprouting wings and taking on her true form. One of the wings is ragged and lacy, but the creature manages well enough, and flies out toward the grey thing in the water, looking back, wanting Cori to follow.
High in the air, shifting fast over this quadrant, Nikoli heads south toward the headland, with Valdor still clinging to his back. I won't help you directly. But I can tell you where I think his lair is. The dragon rolls and starts to lose altitude. We were to attack the city on the other side of the lake - me, my brothers, and the lesser races Nikoli coughs out a laugh, but it has little humour in it. Then, when it was weak - he would come and chase us all off - be their savior. He has big plans, that one....

Quadrant 4 -
Ve Mundr, Bertram and Aeralia arrive at the northern border between Quadrant 4 and Quadrant 2, with approximately 250 of the HORDE OF DOMI at their back. Before them stands the CRAZED HORDE, about 100 of them. There is no reason on their dirt and blood-streaked faces. All reason, in fact, has been stripped away, leaving behind it a feral longing - for blood, for killing, for chaos. The skeletons are down, their remains scattered and smashed, their souls fulfilled and already sailing the red channels into Gargul's domain. "YAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" screams one of the lunatics, and the CRAZED HORDE leap forward. But Ve Mundr is already into the fray, and the gap between the groups shrinks rapidly to nothing.

Meanwhile, a bit lower in the field, Gunther regains his saddle and ventures into Nikoli's killing ground. His horse is jumpy, yanking at the reins while picking it's way carefully across the scorched earth. Now the smoke and cloud has blocked out the moon, it's quite dark here, and maybe that is a blessing. Smoking clumps of 'something' litter the ground, blackened and twisted. Occasionally, the warrior can make out an arm, or a head. Ah yes, and here, a perfect tableau - maybe a horse, and a man being pulled from it by four, five, maybe six others. They are tangled and welded together, the fat from their flame-broiled flesh spattered outward - skull to skull, bone to bone. And at the center of this museum of dragon horror - a figure on horseback, surrounded on all sides by many others on foot. It's features are gone, it's head a blackened stump. But the arms still weild two war hammers, suspended low over the macabre, smoking and silent crowd surrounding it. There is no sign of any life here. No men. No horses. No orcs. Everything here is dead.
Ingrge can see Gunther in the saddle, picking through the debris. He can see the HORDE OF DOMI pressing toward the north. He can see Nikoli, edging south, looking like he might come into land somewhere, and - through a gap in the wall of thorns, a smattering of magic and the flash of silver wings at the shore. However, behind him he senses something. It's the elves, he can see 11 of them approaching, along with Brother Nyle, the Aisildurian.
Consequence.....
Plateau City -
Moonlight spills into an inner courtyard, where three figures dance. Two tall males shift around a much shorter third female. The sound of blows - wood upon wood - crack through the air and well-earned sweat spatters on the cobbles. It's been a long evening, and all three are close to exhaustion, but there's also a sense of elation, like the hard work is beginning to pay off. "Enough." All three stand and salute one another. Their chests heave and there are broad grins on their faces. Then suddenly, something makes them start. A thing in the minds eye, flashing past with the speed of a bat - red wings, the flash of a sword, death and revenge and something evil - but then it's gone, a threat banished, and forgotten. One of the Twins clears his throat. "Okay... lets go raid the kitchen, and then it's off to bed for you, young lady." The three head inside Gold Dragon Castle.
--------------------- The Floating City -
Sturtavent looks out onto the lake from the Overlord Palace balcony, where the moons' reflections shimmer off the surface like diamonds. Below him, the City is lit up like a giant birthday cake. It's people are all awake and on the alert. Some of the turtles and their handlers are already out on the water, swimming out as far as they dare, so they are able to give advance warning. The Mayor is in a bitter mood. He is fully aware of the practicalities and the political expediencies that stop him from flying off into the dark to join the battle. He HAD to stay here, for if the Dragons and the Talons failed - then he, the druids, any of the Storm Dragons who answered his call, and the guards, were all who could prevent the invasion. The last line of defence. Beside him, Alicia D'Anlaf, Overlord of the Big Float, her face pale and lovely in the moonlight, looks up at him. "So, what do we do?" He gives a sigh. "We wait." ---------------------------
Somewhere in the Mountains - east of the battle and the great lake -
Jus the elf, Storm Dragon and sometime resident of the Floating City, looks out over a jagged ravine partially cloaked in snow. It was beautiful out here, peaceful, and nearly as bright as day with the snow reflecting the moonlight. So, was he winning? Was he? Or was he just kidding himself? It was hard to say. This journey was turning into quite a battle of wills.
A sound makes him leave his perch at the cave mouth and return to the fire where the boy sleeps. Keiran seems restless in his slumber all of a sudden, which is unusual, as the lad normally sleeps like a bear in winter. But right now, beside the fire, the boy's breathing is shallow, and Jus has to pull him away in order to stop him from rolling into the flames. There are tears rolling down Keiran's cheeks, and his face is wracked, like he is in the grip of some terrible dream. Jus wonders if he should wake him, or let him ride it out, and he wonders what could be causing such anguish. But then to wonder at all at such things, always led down any number of strange avenues, because this boy, wasn't really a 'boy' at all....
--------------------------
Emerald Kingdom
Parnoth, Supreme and Almighty Ruler of the Emerald Kingdom and Osto, Saviour of the Wold, is fast asleep, curled up on top of a blissfully huge pile of coins. There is something wonderful about coins, about how they gather one's body heat and shift underneath, allowing for a dragon's comfort. Parnoth sleeps well tonight. Even Mop whining about taxes and Talons has done nothing to eradicate this mood. The 'talks', *cough* extortion *cough*, have gone well in Osto, so much so that it is perhaps safe to say that Parnoth's empire is beginning to grow a little. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, Sturtavent, hmmmm? Ah, yes. The green dragon finds himself in a sublime mood this evening, and his dreams are full of conquest, and expansion, and an even bigger pile of coins. He's unsure where these feelings are coming from, but he doesn't care. This is the best dream he's had in years...

(OOC: K'Nara is going to use 12 hero points for a Called Shot to Ivan's brain through his eye.)
The tall blade singer feels the healing power of Father Nicholas' spell wash over her--but the healing is reversed by Ivan's continued chewing on her body.
Tired of being a dragon's chew toy, K'Nara channels all her energy and focuses on slamming her fiery blade up through the nearby eye of Ivan, in order to pierce the brain there. The woman warrior screams at the top of her lungs as she lets her blows fly...
(OOC: first attack is a possible Crit Hit: hits AC52 for 17hpd & 4hp fire damage and then AC37 for 12hpd & 6hp fire damage. Second attack is also a possible Crit Hit: hits AC34 for 18hpd & 1hp fire damage and then AC25 for 13hpd & 5hp fire damage.)
(2nd OOC: this post was edited because K'Nara only has 12 hero points to spend...what is in the post is correct, not the Die Rolls space.)
Corialote [HP: 177/177 - AC: 38][shapechange: harpy] and Amarth [HP: 48/48 - AC: 24] Wednesday November 22nd, 2006 5:15:53 PM
Cori nods her head as the young dragon takes to the air. She flies off after the dragon after she shapes herself back into the form of a harpy once again. She wonders if this is suicide on her part or something else. "Oh well, stop worrying and just go with it...you will soon have your answer girl." She smiles as she follows along trying to keep pace.
Amarth continues to keep himself hidden as he watches the battle rage around him. It was not a pretty sight then again he has seen bad and ugly before. This was nothing new to anyone with a little bit of power.

Valdor(AC37, HP 284,Fire resistance, Dust of Disappearance, Cloak of Arachnid) Wednesday November 22nd, 2006 7:57:17 PM
Valdor replies,"That makes little sense. He should know those mercenaries weren't capable of even putting a dent in the city's defense. You and your brothers would have had a harder time than you might think. And while red dragons are rightly feared by most, they are mostly agressive and their actions fairly predictable. Black dragons are not to be trusted and everyone knows it. He wouldn't have fooled anyone. Plus we know his tactics in battle. He also killed a friend of mine, so he made it personal.
Anyway, his plans are dust, because he threatens my city and many of my countryman, and we will see him destroyed. What the Storm Dragons started, I plan to finish. He couldn't beat them, he can't beat us. So, where is his lair?"
Brother Bertram-Addition Wednesday November 22nd, 2006 9:15:30 PM

Gunther (AC34, HP100/106), Spell Resistance 13, Barkskin +3, Stoneskin 90/100???? d20+6=12 Wednesday November 22nd, 2006 11:41:48 PM
Gunther looks around at the carnage in front of him...slowing scanning it. Borden was here, somewhere..but the hammers...he'd seen those somewhere... And then suddenly, his brain catches up with what his eyes have already told him. Borden...Birk...all of them dead!! His face twists into a contorted mask of rage. That flying camp fire had killed them all of them and then just flown away. But there was another one out there..and he was going to pay!! Gunther opens his mouth and lets loose a primal scream as he spurs his horse in a full charge on the sole remaining dragon on the battlefield (heading toward Ivan...should be 240 feet move with the run action).

Mordrid runs into the new quad, and plants his feet; immediately arching his spine he lets loose another flight. This time at the dragon that tosses K'narra about like a rag doll. Seeing her scream and dig deep like a dying creature, he moans out and his eyes water.

Olana( AC 28, HP 67/76) d20+14=18 d20+9=19 Saturday November 25th, 2006 12:29:07 AM
On the far side of the dragon, Olana can't see if help is arriving or not, although perhaps she senses a few jolts go through the creature with all the magic being thrown at it. The smack on the chin from the dragon's wing does nothing to help her mood, or her aim. oh well, on we go...
