Theodore & Macaw HP 29/29 AC 17 (mage armor, dodge)  d20+5=20
Wednesday November 15th, 2006 10:16:55 PM

Theodore agrees with Berlon. "Yeah. Undead. Pfff!"

He returns to the kitchen and watches as the others mill about discussing how to go about opening a door. "One at a time sounds like a good idea. Perhaps we should listen at the door before we open it."

That said, he moves to the western door and puts his ear to it. (Listen 20)

Dietrich
Friday November 17th, 2006 6:33:45 AM

Dietrich listens to his friends and worries about how his Windbourne Hills accent sometimes makes communication difficult. He never had in mind opening all doors at once!

What he suggested was exactly for the scouts to go together make a reconnaiscence of each door, one at a time, while the noisy partymembers wait in the kitchen. After we have the intelligence about what lays ahead, the party could decide which way to go.

With some already opening a door, Dietrich stays with his bow ready to shoot.
But he repeats: "Only Vorelle, Rose and Vauhwyt should go to have a first look."

As others prepare for combat, Theodore pushes the door open and leaps to the side. For a moment, all is quiet. But then! All remains quiet...

Looking into the room, it appears to be vacant. At one time, it looks like it served as sleeping quarters for numerous people. There are four rotted cots and an old beaten up chest.

You estimate the room is about fifteen feet, east to west, and twenty feet, north to south. You find no other immediate objects of interest.

Vorelle finds no evidence of anything having recently been in this room.

Berlon and Vauhwyt are curious about the chest, the liontaur asks Rose to check it out for traps.

Oni hangs back with the three Dirt City warriors who are still wide-eyed with wonder. They whisper excitedly amongst themselves about zombies and gargoyles.

Theodore suggests backtracking a bit to look over the altar before moving on.

Tuesday November 21st, 2006 10:39:18 PM

Vorelle does notice four windows peering from the room. One to the north, one to the south, and two to the west. The windows are barred on the outside and look out over the steep cliff and the ocean beyond.

Dietrich urges the group to check the newly found chest and the altar in the dining hall. Olyn tries to reassure the three anxious warriors with words and a task to perform: serving as rearguard for the party.

Sharif nods at the cleric. "Yes, sir!"

Vauhwyt and Rose pick over the chest. Deciding it's safe, Rose flips the heavy timbers open. Inside, you find nothing too interesting, unless you're in the market for ancient, bug eaten clothes and shoes.

Berlon keeps his eyes peeled but doesn't notice any immenent danger.

Theodore goes back into the dining hall to scrutinize the altar and comes hustling back a few moments later. "Marteaus! It's to Marteaus!"

"Letīs continue. Scouts, check the next door."

He continues with the longbow ready.

Oni
Wednesday November 22nd, 2006 1:37:21 PM

Oni watches as Theodore passes him and the lads. When the mage comes running back yelling Marteus's name, Oni winces. Looking over to the lads he hopes they know little about the Gods.

"Lads, do you know anything about the Gods? As for myself, as a young taur I was taught very little. I learned a little about Alemi and Domi. They were always said to be of the 'good' ilk. Marteus and Gargul were always mentioned with the 'bad' ilk. So i guess if i had to chose back then, i would have followed the path of Domi." He switches the axe from hand to hand.

"How about the Drow? Any knowledge. Well I will impart some first hand knowledge to you. Firsat, they tend to live underground. Their body and hair look like mine. They are a fearsome foe if battleing more than a few.

"One thing i did learn to the good. When they fight, or do battle, they will watch one anothers backsides. For instance the three of you could chose one to constantly watch the backs of the other two. After a while switch it around. It is a great boon to be in battle knowing you have to deal with what is in front of you, and not bewhind.

"I heard it said it was a tactic given them by their goddess Jancassis. After being their captive for many years, well, i guess i became a true believer. I now consider her as my Goddess. Goddess of revenge i am told. Odd, a cleric once blessed me, and i recieved this new skin, and coloring. Is it a reminder of a revenge I must enact, or what? Guess i will need to find out. Ok lads, up and at it, time to move." Vorelle had just entered the room and was searching in her usual earnest way.

Vauhwyt and Mookie
Wednesday November 22nd, 2006 6:41:07 PM

Vauhwyt listens intently to Oni, and his words remind her of her own sacred vows to the Lady of Spiders. Just then Mookie pipes up.

"Boss, did you find Captain Ghost's dead daughter in that chest? Maybe she's hiding under a cot?"

Vauhwyt flushes red and her tail droops. "Mookie, you are right. This is getting us no nearer to our true goal. Let us press on."

When Theo reports that the altar is devoted to Marteus, it raises the liontaur's spirits in a grim way. "I've sworn to avenge the Captain's loss of his daughter, and I've sworn to make Marteus pay. Maybe, just maybe, this place will give me the chance to satisfy both my vows."

She is eager to move on to the next door, to the north.

I walk up to the altar to Martues.
I reach into my pocket and pull out a vial of holy water blessed by the head priest to Wardd and after opening it, pour the contents onto the altar.
I then reach into my pouch and pull out 2 six sided dice and throw them onto the altar while asking for a blessing from Wardd.
I smile widely when a 4 and a 3 come up on the dice, and leave them on the altar.
Walking back to the group I say aloud, take that you piece of crap.

He moves away and shakes his head, giving the "nothing heard" signal.

Vauhwyt is impatient. She casts Enlarge Person on herself. Now huge, she has a +8 bonus to open doors, in addition to her +3 Str bonus. Her open check is a 29.

Spell failure check is a 88 -- no prob.

When the door opens, she tumbles in, using her Tumble skill to avoid any AoOs from people or corpses waiting on the other side.

Tumble check (-1 adjustment for being bigger than usual) is a 19, wich beats the needed DC15.

Dietrich can't summon the strength to move the door so he steps away and lets Rose come forward to try her luck.

The halfling concentrates on the lock. First try...nothing. Second try...nothing. Third try...click!

Vauhwyt pushes through the crowd and suddenly becomes much larger. Shoving the door in, she tumbles through the portal and springs to her feet.

The room is circular. It appears to be a small study. A desk with writing implements adorns the center of the room. Musty tomes line dusty shelves along the wall. A staircase spirals up to the next level.

Theodore stops short when he enters the deliciously musty room. Books! He could almost taste them.

Berlon brings him back to the here and now with a very silly question. "Do I have a detect magic spell? Of course I do! What self-respecting wizard would walk around without one of the most necessary spells?! That would be like asking Dietrich if he had his sword with him!" His hands are thrown over his head, waving madly in the air for emphasis.

Suddenly realizing that in fact he's being the silly one and not Berlon, he lowers his arms and apologizes. "I'm sorry. Yes, I do in fact have that spell, Berlon. Let me cast it right now."

He does so and searches the room for auras.

Oni can see the flying creatures. It seems they are not too dangerous. It almost seems to him that they are a diversion. He moves further into the courtyard, staying close to a wall. That should allow him some protection.

"Lads, move to cover, they are not too great of fighters." Sim-ly stated whether he believes it r not. Then Dietrich appears walking on the air, attacking the beast. Odd group he is with, for sure.

DM Shegger Round 2  d20+7=23 d6=6 d20+7=23 d6=2
Thursday December 14th, 2006 10:03:18 PM

Vorelle and Rose spring up the stairs and come out with Dietrich, Olyn, Berlon, and Theodore on the bridge.

Rose's bear has gone back to where he came from.

Dietrich draws his blade and moves across the air to attack the harpy to the east. His strike is true (roll for damage next round Dietrich), and the harpy squeals in pain and flies on. (Dietrich also gets an AoO. Roll for that, too.)

Oni calls for the youths to take cover from the harpies'. They quickly follow orders, moving to press themselves against the wall that also serves as the bridge between the tower and main room on the second floor.

Olyn moves back down the stairs, through the study, and down the hall into the kitchen. The next round will bring him out into the courtyard.

Theodore aims his crossbow and looses his bolt which flies true, sinking into the harpy on the west (Harpy B takes 3 HP damage).

The harpy that Dietrich damaged flies at Theodore and strikes him mightily with a knotty club. (Harpy A hits Theodore for 6 HP damage) She continues on past the bridge to the north. (Berlon gets an AoO on Harpy A)

The other harpy makes a bee line for Dietrich and gives him a ringing blow to the noggin (Harpy B hits Dietrich for 2 HP damage) and zips past to the east.

Vorelle quickly fires three shots at any harpy not in melee combat.

[Hit AC 24 for 5 damage; hit AC 19 for 5 damage; hit AC 13 for 6 damage. Please add one to both the attack and damage roll if the harpy is 30 feet or less from Vorelle.]

Rose quickly uses her wand of unseen servant and tells it to obey piper. She then pulls out a length of rope from her bag.

Piper reaches into her bag of tricks and pulls out a ball which she throws on the ground and turns into a wolverine. Piper then orders the unseen servant to take the rope and use it to tangle up a harpy.

damage done last round: 17 + 4 sneak attack = 21

Should the harpy still be alive, he uses the AoO: hits ac 31: damage 15 critical: 30

Dietrich is relatively surprised his blundered attack actually hit the beast! (it should probaly get it killed too)

The warrior is attacked by the other one, but itīs just a scratch. He attacks back:
hits ac 24, damage: 15 (together with the fire it took, it should probably die too)

Dietrich reminds his friends again not to waste their rare powers. He also shouts:

"Look out at the sky if their more of them!"

(OOC: Everyone remember their bless. Clerics hate it when you forget.)

After Dietrich zooms off with his new enchantment, Berlon turns his attention to the harpy attacking Theo. Seeing a chance to attack, he lets loose with his Crossbow, hoping Alemi will guide his admittedly shaky aim.

Heavy Crossbow AoO (Guidance used) hits AC 26 for 10 damage.

Happy with his good shot, the gnome then drops his crossbow (free action) and moves to engage the harpy that's bothering Theo, drawing his mace as he goes. (move action)

He will then attack the harpy with his mace (standard action).

Heavy Mace attack hits AC 29 for 10 damage.

A Map showing PC positions at the end of Round 2.

I drew the bridge/courtyard wall wider in the second two maps because Shegger said two people could stand abreast on them.
