Goin on a snake hunt......

The crew and their officers are reunited again and things are jubilaint for a few minutes until Riggin starts issuing orders, though they are tempered with the praise he is also showing his men and women. As they get into the ship they realise there are alot more people inside than was expected. Infact there are probably 3 dozen civilians inside looking like they are at home. The evening is drawing near and the party is bone weary and in need of some true rest. Ashira has been told to prepare an organized smake hunt, but like Val, right now the only thing she can seem to keep her mind on is catching a bit of shuteye.

Nez build his wall and almost immediately several children pour forth from the hull hole and begin to play aroud the wall.

Bart inspects the work being done and can find no fault in it.

Always vigilant, Mykael notes the arrows and the graves. He hears Riggings orders and notes Ashira's tired look.

"We can get them after some rest, however, Ghem and I will check the tree-line."

Asking the first mate, "Thomas, do you have a good idea of where the arrow fire has been coming from? Which area of the tree-line?"

Standing with the ship between him and the tree-line Mykael waves for the look outs attention. He then motions for the them to keep and eye on him and Ghem.

Ghem, I know you are tired and not feeling well. But there are people here depending on us. We must push ourselves to always do what is needed. Lets do a quick scouting walk along the tree-line. You stay up in them tree tops. I dont want to see you. Just let me know if you sense anything, stop and hide, and tell me where. Otherwise, stay above in the trees just low enough for you to help me search.

Mykael scouts along the tree-line, taking special notice to areas they have found Yuan Ti before, and where his best guess the arrows were loosed from. He doesnt get too close to the tree-line, staying about 20-30 feet from it, thus making it harder to surprise the elf. And he keeps his shield arm toward the tree-line.

Surprise registers on Ari's face when they come out of the Jungle and seeing the ship for the first time in many months. A feeling of peace comes over himself as he is reminded of the feelings of home.

Ari stands and soaks in the sight of the ship as the others move down into the clearing. Hearing Rigging Ari is reminded that real life always intrudes. Climbing about the ship Ari works his way around the ship and stops to talk with all the crew members that he knows of.

Having the civilians on board is a little bit of a foreign concept as they've not had other people to mingle with before.

Ari checks things out as best he can and works with the crew to find himself new lodging.

Rigging inquires about the graves to find out who died and then asks Nezamil to say few words in the morning. Rigging then retires to his cabin and slumps down on his bunk and falls off to sleep.

"Can't you guys raise a magical wall up infront of the ship?" Val mumbles as she heads below deck. Once the door to her cabin is closed her gear ends up a pile on the floor. She slowly crawls into bed and slips into reverie.

Nezamil nods at Captain Riggings words " will do that right away " as he walks over to the 2 newly dug graves and prays for the souls of the dead.

Hearing Val mumbling about magical walls Nezamil looks over at the wall of stone he just raised " she must really be tired if she missed that " Thinks the big dwarf to himself .

Watching the kids play on the beach behind the safety of the wall brings a hugh smile to Nezamil's face " now thats why we do what we do "

The ranger watches as most of the Wildcards disappear into the Sword to rest, leaving her to handle everything. She sighs, frustrated at the new hands off stance that Rigging has taken of late.

She smiles at Mykael's offer of rest. "Truth be told, I'm dog dead tired...but then, I suppose leadership has its price. If you don't mind, I'll start thinking of our stratagy for attack. Then I'll relieve you. I'll arrange for the some of the other crew to handle the rest of the watch." With a brief nod to the warrior mage, Ashira heads off to the shore line and begins to start drawing out some rough ideas for the attack.

Appolo arrives at the ship with the others although tired he just stands and watces things for a moment.Most head into the ship for some sleep.He decides he'll have to check on Vlanthe later.

Seeing what Ashira is doing he walks up to her"Hey big sister.You need to go to sleep.The snakes can wait.Go jion that lunkhead husband of yours.He'll get himself in troublein his sleep if you're not there to watch over him.Staring at the jungle isn't going to do you any good."He says with smile.Then helps her to her feet and starts to lead her back to the ship"Don't about the snakes we're going to spending alot of time killing them.I would say for the next several months at least.ome on let's get some rest."

greetings over and the Swords heding off to bunk, Mykael heads to scout out the areas that were pointed out to him. There are definite signs of where the Yt were shooting from and from the look of things there were somewhere between 6 and 10 pread out along a densely shrubbed area along the tree line Ghem spots nothing of interest from the air.

Ashira begins to start watch when Thomas and the new crewman Bart come up to her. Bart looks like he is afraid ashira is going to bite his head off. Thomas clears his throat and then speaks.

"Pardon us Ms. Ashira but we kinda have a rotation already worked out an if I let you take Bart's watch it will just throw everthing off. So's whyn't you go on ahead and hit the sack. We've got the watches covered three at a time and well to be quite frank, you look like death warmed over. No disprespet meant."

The night passes restfully only momentarily interupted bt the sound of the ships bell signalling the ends and beginings of watches.

Mykael notes the locations for later and heads for the ship.

Lets go Ghem. We need to get some rest.

He keeps watch all the way back to the safety of the ship and reports to Thomas what he has found.

"Have they been attacking at about the same time? or has it been sporatic? Tomorrow we will try and take them down."

Mykael moves to the beach, being careful of crocs, he takes off his armor and equipment. Refreshing himself, he dumps water over himself. Cleaner and cooler, Mykael heads for his rack to get his good night of sleep.

When he wakes he studies his spells, and heads out to see what is going on.

Rigging wakes after a good night sleep and stretches his arms out. He glances down at his wife sleeping soundly next to him noting her fair form and peaceful expression. Certain ideas spring into Rigging's mind but then he remembers the two graves new graves not far from the beach and slips from the bed.

He will sit at the desk and open his spellbooks to refreshen his spells. When he is done with his spellbook, he will go searching for Cosmo to see if he can borrow his spellbooks to learn some hire level spells.

Once his study is done, he will go on deck to survey the situation, gauge the mood of the crew and check on the repairs.

Cosmo wakes up in the morning, refreshed from the prior days battle. He takes out his spellbook and starts perusing it. Hmmm, what spells to take today. I think a little different than yesterday and definitely more offensive.

With that in mind he starts his studying.

The swords sleep the sleep of the exhausted and magically healed and stay in bed several hours past dawn. When they finally wake they find a traveler's breakfast waiting for them and the sounds of construction taking place.

Each of them takes care of their things studies some spell and prepares for whatever the day might bring.

Riggin in particular works on copying some scrolls into his spellbook; each scroll disapearing as he etches the last word in. There are still several scolls however that he cant not read. Finally about mid afternoon, he heads out to see what is going on above decks.

Mykael finds out from Jonathan that there has been no set patterns that have been discernable in the attacks on the workers.

Nezamil wakes to the sounds of hammering and the smells of cooking "hmm i'm starving " mutters the dwarf

Sleepily shuffling towards the prepared breakfast....Nezamil hungily digs into the meal " mmm...good ...that hits the spot "

After eating Nezamil finds a semi quiet sout and turns his thoughts inward as he meditates

As the morning passes the 10' dwarf seeks out Captain Rigging " so whats next ??...we head out today ??....we shouldn't wait to long or they will get reinforce and reorganize and search us out ..... i prefer to bring the fight to them ......what about Romeo ??....can he guide us to their villages and campsites ??"

The elven warrior awakes and quicly finds Melonie so they can share breakfast and news of the last few days .

Val cleans her battle gear after the meal and then relaxes for a short while knowing it will be short lived and awaits Riggings plan of action.

Bart enjoys the meal with gusto knowing the upcoming battle will test his stregth again .

He sits next to his old friend Ari during breakfast and remarks to him " you were asking about the battle tactics we use now .....we try and fight in pairs more ...teamwork is vital...lets me and you work together...just stick close to me and battle and assit with your magic ....my sword will do the most damage just need someone to watch my back and assist where needed"

Waking up in the morning Ari detects the smell of breakfast and cannot help but salivate to a good cooked meal. Not wanting to pass up the meal he gets dressed and joins the others for breakfast.

Listening to Bart Ari replies, "More teamwork is always better. We have suffered from each person wanting to do their own things. I need to update my spells list too, I seem to have had several things destroyed or altered recently. Speaking of which I think I'll need spend some restudying what I have for spells. Especially if I'm going to help you out. "

As Ari continues to nibble on his food he pulls out his spell book and begins working on spells.

Rigging will send Swirl on a quick recon through the jungle to see if he can find any of the snakemen attacking the camp. He will have Mykael send Ghem as well.

While waiting for the scouting report, Rigging will hand Nezamil some of the scrolls he couldn't read and see if the dwarf can make sense of them.

He will then hand Cosmo the 2 scrolls of Summon monster 4 saying, "You can make better use of these than I can.

He will then track down Romeo and ask him to prepare to lead the Wildcards out this afternoon. "I have to believe we are starting to make a dent in there numbers, at least enough for them to start feeling the sting of losses. I want to keep whittling them down. I don't believe we are ready to hit their main base but can you lead us to a smaller village or encampment where we can hit them again. I want them to start reacting to us for a change instead of us always reacting to them."

He will then gahter the Wildcards and ask their opinions on where they should go next and how they should go about ridding themselves and the island of the YT vermin.

Ashira awakens refreshed. She pulls Thomas aside. "Thank you Thomas. I needed that." She winks mischieviously at the first mate. "Wouldn't want to mess with your fine tuned machiine."

As soon as she has prepared her spells for the day, Ashira gathers all the Wildcards together for their morning workout...even the spellcasters. When Rigging complains, Ashira shoots him a withering look. "Us fighters can't always be there to watch your backs. I want you to be in good enough shape to at least run away from the battle!" Having the Wildcards climb the Sword's rigging a few times, she leads them in a very brief and basic review of self-defense techniques, followed by a brief swim in the lagoon. Releasing the spell casters to work on their research, Ashira drills the rest of the fighters on combat techniques, making sure that everyone gets a chance to spar each other and work up a good sweat. After everyone is done with their workout, Ashira heads back over to Rigging. "You wanted a plan of attack... I think we should target all of the rest of their temples. Once we destroy them the Yuan Ti will have to hoof it through the jungle. They will loose their teleporting ability, while we will still have our magic. Then we can make a strike at individual villages without the fear of reinforcements arriving quickly."

Rigging will listen to his wife after being forced to swim in the laggoon. To speed things along, Rigging is tempted to give Swirl a rope and have him pull him quickly through the water but decides against it last minute. Sometimes Ashria has no sense of humor.

When he does finally track down Romeo, he asks, "How close in the next pyramid? Is it one of their main villages?"

The swords wake, study, workout, and generally have a stress free day. Riggings search for Romeo takes a bit longer as expected as the ranger and his women are apparently nowhere to be found. Somewhere around late afternoon a young lad of about 10 shows up and cautiously approaches the group and stands there shifting from foot to foot awaiting notice and permission to speak.

Thomas looks over and nodding to Rigging speaks to the boy. "Well, don't just stand there wobbling boy, What do you want?"

The boy tells you that Romeo can't come to the lagoon right now as he cant travel with his injuries and if it would please them coul they come and talk with him.

Cosmo wraps up studying for his spells. He is on his way to see Rigging when the child approaches the ship informing them of Romeo's condition.

Helping with repairs and making routine tree-line patrols, Mykael has been busy all day so far.

Gathering his pack and traveling gear Mykael readies for the trip to see Romeo. Mumbling to himself, "Why didnt the idiot bring his kin here. He knows better than anyone whats out there. And there is safety in numbers. Out of all here, he is the one that deserves our help the least. However, I cant blame his stupidity on his kin...."

Ghem, time to leave. Hope you had a good nap.

Taking a little break after Ashira's workout drill the big 10' dwarf hears the commotion by the wall .....spotting the youyng boy he starts to walk over but overhears the young lad speak of Romeo's wounds .

"Captain.....Romeo helped us at a time of need i would like to go help heal his wounds....this way we can also speak to him about the snakemens villages and routines"

"i'll get my stuff " as Nezamil quickl goes and gathers his equipment and readys fro the trek to help Romeo

Rigging smiles at Cosmo and says, "Ah the scrolls are blank but I now have some spells in my spellbook. If you want, you can copy them to yours from mine."

When the boy explains the Romeo is hurt, he will say, "Of course we will come. How far away is he? When did he get hurt?" Rigging will gesture for the the boy to lead on and tell the others, "Why don't we all go." Something in Rigging's tone sounds suspesous.

The ranger sighs. I hate it when the enemy always gets to decide when and where we fight. She looks over at Rigging. "Why don't you let John and I scout the way. Just to make sure there are no surprises. We can cast our Hide from Animals spells and be hidden from the little snakes."

The trip to where Romeo is quick and easy and only takes about 15 minutes. You would have however walked right by the place thinking it an no longer used, abandonned and overgrown pit trap had you not had a guide. Carefully leading you down a makeshift ladder and behind a wall of vine growth, a cave is cut deeply into the wall of the pit.

Inside you find Romeo, his "wives" and several children. Romeo has seen better days. He has what looks to be at least three arrow wounds, one of which at least has part of an arrowhead in it. he is running a pretty high fever from what may be poison and looks in a very bad way. His eyes are glazed and he doesn't even recognize you.

In no time what-so-ever, Nez stes up and works his magic, literally, and Romeo drifts off for a healing sleep, while his women fuss over you all and see to your every need and then some basically driving you all nuts. About thirty minutes kater Romeo wakes an lloks over at you.

"So, What brings you to my little hideaway?

Cosmo is glad that Romeo is still alive. Even more so when Nezamil works his magic and brings the man back into health. He waits to hear how Romeo was injured.

As Ari joins the others to go see this Romeo person. Ari realizes that there's a lot going on that the doesn't know about. So he might have to spend some time catching up on what all the swords have at their disposal.

Since the wives are kind enough to fuss over the group and Rigging has other things to tend to. Ari will make sure all the introductions are done and do his best in turn, to keep the wives out of everyone else's hair.

After healing Romeo.... Nezamil checks out the rest of his family.....smiling at all the attention that he and his friends receive the big 10' tall dwarf seetles in by the entrance of the cave .....taking out the scrolls Captain Rigging gave to him earlier to peruse....Nezamil study's them and will share his findings with Cosmo and Mykael so they can add their expertise on what they are .

Nodding in agreement at Val's words " yes i think we should move as quickly as we can so as not to let them attack us 1st and plan nasty traps for us"

The ranger nods at Bart's suggestion. "I think for now, that might be the best course of action. I don't think they'll be expecting us to hit another temple. And if we can take it out, then that's all the more they have to hoof it through the jungle when we do attack their villages. Plus it slows down any relief troops."

Rigging sits down next to Romeo and asks, "How were you injured? Last time I saw you, you were in good health?" Rigging waits for the reply and thens says, "The reason we have come to you is the same as yesterday. You were supposed to meet us and guide us towards the Yuan-ti's camp.
We were hoping for your opinion on which area to hit and where we can do the most damage and kill the most snakemen without costing us our lives in the battle? You have been here much longer than we have so we value your opinion and will need you as a guide. Do you think you are healthy enough to guide us now? Sooner we drive the snakemen away, the sooner we can start making this island into a paradise.

Oh and we wounded your archer friend yet again but he keeps getting away. He is very slippery but we killed a couple more abominations yesterday?

Romeo looks around at you all and slowly shakes his head. "Well the reason I am injured is the same as why I didn't meet you. I was on my way and not really paying attention and was jumped by a snake. It got a few arrows into me and then left, figuring the poison would do the rest. My wives somehow found me and brought here which is where I have been since.

Now, as to where you should go next... Well I rightly don't know truly. The Snakes don't often work together as they are divided into racial clans, however if you piss em off enough that could change.

You say you have detroyed one of the temples, so I guess you have three other possible targets, on the island: The two other temple compounds and the mine. The temple compounds normally only house like raced Snakes and their human slaves, but at the mine you are likely to have a mixture of groups, as well as a much larger number of slaves."

At the mention of the other targets Apollo pulls out the map and as he lays it out, romeo gives a whistle.

"Shoot you don't need me any more, this is better than any map I could give you.

This place where you attacked (1) is the home of the vipers. Here (2) is populated by hoods, and this (3) is home of the stricters. This place by the mountains (4) is the mine, where they get all their diamonds from."

As he finishes this summary he awaits your questions and thoughts.

Listening to Romeo's infomation the big dwarf adds " well since we destroyed the Vipers temple to our left flank... we should be somewhat safe from ambush from that side since i'm sure they would seek out one of the other temples for reorganizing and safety....if we now attack the Hoods at their temple (#2) we could in essence clear our right flank also and keep them from forming a thrice strong force "

"afterwards we can go directly to the mines and free up the slaves and take away their main source of revenue.....hopefully that would force the remaining snakeheads to flee the island...but then again we might have disabled their teleport device ...which would keep them here and force them to battle us....without the Viper and Hood clans of course....better odds for us " grins Nezamil

With a look at Romeo " now since we will have the Hood clan preoccupied maybe you could visit the nearby settlements of people and get them not help the snakeheads....this way they won't get in our way or in the crossfire of the coming battle .....and maybe pickoff a few stray snake spy's lurking behind .....what say you Captain ??" as Nezamil looks at Rigging

Rigging studies the map and listens to Nezamil's suggestions. He nods his head in agreement and points at the map and asks Romeo, "What about this human village here. Would they join us? Could we free the humans and enlist their aid in fighting the snakes or has the food made them docile puppies?

Which encampment has your friend the sorceror in it. The one they are using to power the pyramid? "

Rigging continues, "I do think attacking pyramid 2 would offer greater safety for our camp here, but if we could free another village it does make sense."

Rigging looks at Romeo and says, "Can you lead us there so we could get a surprise attack. Know any hidden ways?"

Some discussion follows the appearance of the map as well as a few questions which Romeo answers to the best of his ability.

My guess would be that the people in the villages are going to be very little help to you for a number of reasons, but will folow you quickly enough once the snakes are gone.

My friend is or was at last check on the mine pyramid.

I realy have very little knowledge about the hoods' or the strictor's enclaves, but I do have a good knowledge of the land in and around the mine.

"Rigging, we need to be ready to put an end to this quick. Because once the Yuan-Ti really feel like they are losing or cant win. Well, it will be like the last village. They will kill or take as many humans with them as they can when they flee. When they get to that point, we will need to be in top condition to hit them hard and save as many as we can," Mykael theorizes about the future.

Mykael begins to leave then stops and turns toward Romeo, "I have one quick question. What do you know of the giant water snake that is attacking the ships? Do the Yuan-Ti control it? If so, do you know how? If we get rid of it and get the sword repaired, then we could use it to delay or prevent Yuan-Ti escape."

Mykael falls into his place in the marching order. Ghem, head for the tree tops. You are an important part of keeping us from being surprised or just missing something. Just stay out of sight and keep up.

Romeo thinks about Rigging's question before answering.

Well, that depends. If you tear pell meel through the forest and don't hit any traps then you might could make it just after sundown. If yer more careful like and actually watch where yer goin then maybe an hour and a half to two hours after sundown. I've only been up there a couple of times myself and not at all within the last 6-8 weeks, so things may be a it different than I remember. Though, as I recall, the layout is just kind of flipped from the southern compound.

Turning to Mykael as he asks his question The ranger shakes his head and then responds. Well actually that be three quick questions but ths alright. I don be knowin much about that beast ceptin that it be mean and ugly and very hungry. As to yer second question, that do be a question don it? I am more alikin it to a partnership than anyone controlin anyone, though it do seem to come when called, but that aint happened but twice that I know of. i'm not sure how they do it but I's got my spicions about it. My mage friend was knowin more about that than me....

Rigging listens to the comments and a plan start formenting in his head. As an aside, he says, "We learned that the snake was summoned by the priests. I think their stronghold will be at the mine but we need to secure our flanks first.

We will take an orderly march and arrive after nightfall. At that point, I want Appolo and Ashira to scout the camp utilizing their invisiblity rings. We will find out where the biggest concentration of the snakemen is and then Cosmo and I will hit it with spells trying to quickly elimate a large number of them.

Then we will hit the next biggest concentration. If we don't kill them, at least we will weaken them so the fighters can easily finish them off.

After that, we can then hit the pyramid and shut it down. This plan is obviously low on details but we need to see the area first to finalize it.

Cosmo, give some thought on how we should attack. Should we do it from the air? Invisible? We can also go ahead with overland fly and scout it out early. What do you think?"

Rigging will look down at Romeo and say, "Thank you for your advice. You are of course welcome to go with us if you wish or you can stay here. If you are going to stay here, I would invite you to join my crew and add your strong arm to its defense."

Rigging looks to the others and says, "OK lets head back to the ship, get organized, tell Tomas our plans and then get moving.

Some dissent is voiced as discussions and plans are made but the group finally heads back to the ship in order to make some final preparations.

Romeo tells Rigging that he needs to check a few things out but that he will in all likelihood join the rest of the group at the ship.

The jaunt back to the ship is quiet and quick, perhaps too quiet as there aren't even the normal jungle sounds to be heard; no birds, no monkeys, no nothing. In fact even the bugs seem to have disappeared for a bit.

He takes a walk around the ship surveying and checking on the skill and progress of the repairs and the well-being of the crew and civilians.

Finally, he gathers ghem from his nap on top of the mast and walks the tree-line again.

I dont like the quiet. Its as though a major predator or group of them are around. Keep alert.

The 10'ft dwarf trudges back to the Sword with the others.

Ghem, Swirl, Apollo, and Ashira do their things and search the woods along their route back and once they get back to the ship in the woods around the bay, and NOTHING is to be found or sighted in all their searching. In fact, it is almost as if all the wildlife in the area has vanished into thin air, leaving just the plantlife.

As Nez walks along with the Bash Brothers, they bring up an oddity that one of the sailors mentioned to them while the group was visiting Romeo.

"Umm, Boss, I'm not real sure what it means or even if it is true but a couple of the hands came to us just after you left and said they saw a major disturbance in the water just off shore and watched for a moment or two trying to see what was going on and they said they watched as thousands of fish and other sea life moved away from shore toward deeper water."

Mykael's apprentice has a siilar tale to tell his teacher wehnhe seeks him out.

"Mykael, I was up on deck earlier while you all were out and I saw the strangest thing. I was doing those exercises that you have me practicing, when I looked up and suddenly the sky was full of what must have been a thousand birds all flying out to sea away from the land."

Cosmo notices that the glow seems to be less noticable around the sword and in vicinity of the destroyed temple. As they move away from the temple, like when they went to see Romeo, he noticed that the glow got more noticable.

It sounds like that big sea snake that attacked us before. I think the boat is safe but maybe the seasnake can be controlled by the snakemen and the plan a counter assault on our ship. I suggest we double our watch and have lookouts to the sea as well

Rigging ponders the situation and then starts barking orders. "I don't know what is coming but it sounds very bad. I almost have the feeling that a tidal wave or some simular natural disaster is coming." He pauses and gulps, "Is this island vocanic? It makes no sense that everything from birds, insects and fish would all leave at the same time. Still I think we should heed the advice and get out of here. I want the crew, and the villagers to head back to the pyramid we knocked out of commission. It has some high ground and can be defended from attack.

I do want to ask for volunteers to stay with the ship and keep work going on that hole. With everything gone, maybe we can make some headway. A crew of 10 plus Tomas, Kirk and Hal for some protection. We might need to get off this island in a hurry and need to get the ship repaired.

While that is happening here, the Wildcards will move on and attack the next village. If it is some kind of natural disaster, then we can use it to our advantage. If it is an attack, maybe we can prevent it.

Let's get moving people, I think time could be of the essense."

Discussion is had and options are weighed as the group makes its final preparations.

As Rigging brings up the possiblity of volcanos, he remembers seeing several reddish bits of color on the map, located in the mountains north of the diamond mines and the largest of the YT enclaves.

(OOC- Who is leading this march? a rough order would be nice)

As the group moves out going toward their target, the eerieness is almost oppressive, but they make pretty good time. After about an hour's hike Cosmo notices that the group's glow is slightly brighter than when they were back at the ship.

About halfway through the second hour of the march, you all feel a slight vibration coming from beneath your feet. It builds in intensity, to the point where walking is affected but not halted. The trees themselves are shaking as well and some dead wood and limbs rain down upon the group and the surrounding jungle. All ths lasts for about 3 minutes and then dissipates with no further trace.

Rigging shakes his head after the tremors. "Swirl, please go take a look and see if you can spot anything. I am either looking for a bunch of smoke from a volcano or signs that we were hit with a tidal wave."

Swirl replies, "I think I can handle that." and darts into the sky climbing very rapidly. After he gets to around 500' he will pause and take a good look around. (spot 25)

The 10'ft tall dwarf brings up the rear of the march towards the Hoods temple not wanting to set off any traps with his bulk.

The crew moves onward discussion taking place as they move.

Swirl heads upward and after a few moments reports back. "There is some smoke and lots of hot air off in the distance. Ohh I bet the thermals there would be s much fun to ride."

The group moves on, Apollo in the lead and his obvious experience over the last while dealing with the snakes lets him easily locate four assorted traps along the route. The next hour or so of the journey goes a bit more slowly as the underbrush is more dense and there is a tenseness in the aoir that hasn't been noticable earlier. spot checks everyone - DC 15

After saying his piece and taking the lead Appolo activates his ring of invisibility and moves forward quickly and silently.He keeps his eyes and ears open.

Rigging is questioning the intelligence of moving forward with a possible volcano eruption but also realizes that they really can't get off the island either.

Rigging pauses and decides to take some precautions before moving forward. He casts his mage armor and decides to take a better look around himself and casts overland flight. He will move up into the air and take a look for the pryamid and see if he can see any volcanic activity.

Apollo is on his toes as he scouts along and he discovers 7 assorted traps laid along the forest trails that the crew is moving through. He points out and marks four of them and safely trips the other three.

Heading up and in to the air it takes Rigging and Bart a while to escape the trees (120 feet) and when they do they find that they are in a bit of a depression and cant see as much as they would like. In the far distance to the northwest there is a definite accumulation of pretty dense smoke rising steadily into the air.

Back on the ground, Val keeps her eyes peeled looking for snakes and her viligence is rewarded as she sees a large reptile move quickly into some dense undergrowth.

Rigging heads back down and accesses the situation and says, "I am going to head higher and take a good look around. I am going to use the invisiblity ring so I don't stand out to much. Sit tight for a few minutes, kill any snakes in the area and wait for me. Hopefully I can figure out what is ahead and if what is causing all the smoke."

Rigging and Swirl head back up. Rigging asks Bart, "How long does that spell last for? Swirl can tow you for a while but he can't carry you. Your choice."

Val's arrow goes zinging in to the undergrowth and the response is quite interesting as 3 thick projectiles come flying back at her.

The first glnces off of her bow AC 18 and she sees that the projectiles are actually snakes as the next two clamp down on her. AC 19 for 8 points and AC 19 for 6 points: 2 Fort rolls; DC 18 or lose 8 {5+3} points of strength.

Rigging heads back up and after having dropped down a bit he is now at 50 feet above the trees.

Up ahead Apollo begins to see signs of recent traffic heading the same way they are heading.

Bart moves up with Swirl towing him and joins Rigging.

Near the front Nez hears Val's comments from behind him followed qickly by the sound of a bowstring and Val's and Cosmo's cries of pain.

Mykael and Cosmo both have snakes fly out of the bushes at them as well and while Mykael's misses AC 16 Cosmo feels his snake clamp down on his leg painfully AC 22 for 5 points: Fort DC 18 or lose 2 points of strength.

Rigging sees his friends under attack. He decides to try and find out what is attacking them. He says to Bart, "You might want to get back down there. Our friends are under some kind of attack and you can't do much floating around."

Reacting quickly to Val's warning Nezamil expertly unslings his heavy crossbow and quickly snaps off two shots at the spot in the bushes the snake arrows came from.

Both Val and Cosmo fight off the poison that was injected into them (Cosmo, I rolled for you) and Val yanks the troublesome snakes from her body and throws them to the ground, where they are quickly joined by others that soon encircle Val, Mykael, and Cosmo hoods flared and swaying from side to side upright on their slender bodies.

Each of the nine snakes attack their nearest foe each sending a stream of poison jetting through the air toward their targets faces. While seven of the nine snakes miss their mark, both Cosmo and Mykael are struck in the face with the viscous fluid (two natural 20s) and take 2 points of damage and need to make fortitude saves DC 18 or lose strength points Cosmo -4, Mykael -6 points of strength

From where Nez is he can hear that something is going on and even sees something small dart of the bushes and hit Val and Cosmo but he can't really tell what they are. Trying to be helpful he sends two crossbow bolts zipping into the brush hoping to hit something.

Bart asks that Swirl take him back down through the trees toward the fighting (will take at least 3 rounds as you are over 160 ft up and you must go down through a bunch of trees.)

Rigging HEARS the sounds of what might be combat coming from down below and he too begins his descent, hoping to find out what is going on and that he is in time to help. (will take at least 3 rounds as you are over 160 ft up and you must go down through a bunch of trees.)

Appolo hears the commotion and the curses and begins to fall back to where Val and the others are looking out for snakes and the such on his way.

Cosmo takes a moment and even though he is being attacked manages to change form and there is suddenly a trogledyte looming over Val and Mykael.
