(OOC - I do apologize for the lack of a map. I simply don't have access to any map making tools. I'll do my best to describe the locations, though. The hallway to the tower was northeasterly. In the tower, the stairs circle around as they lead up until the door leading out is looking southwest out over the courtyard. The bridge is actually the wall you saw in the courtyard, serving as its northeastern border.)
Dietrich takes the lead and asks the clerics to come second. Olyn and Berlon follow quickly.
Theodore moves up after them.
Oni decides to retreat back down the hall and to the courtyard. His quick movement brings him right to the open door into the courtyard.
Rose, being at the base of the stairs, takes a moment to burn a charge from her protective wand.
Vauwhyt and Vorelle also stay at the base of the stairs.
Dietrich, Olyn, Berlon, Theodore, & Oni Highlight to display spoiler: {About the well, you see the battle unfolding as two harpies circle the three Dirt City warriors. The boys have their weapons out and are trying to defend themselves but are having trouble against the agile air walkers.
The bridge is about fifteen feet above the courtyard, dealing 1d6 of non-lethal falling damage unless you make a DC 15 Jump or DC 15 Tumble check for no damage if you want to jump down to the courtyard. The Harpies are performing flyby attacks on the three from Dirt City. One is to the east, and one to the west, preparing for another attack. Neither are within reach of any but missile or magic weapons unless you ready an attack.}

"Everything we come across is not only evil," Berlon says as he sneers at the harpies, "but ugly and usually smelly as well."
With that he raises his High Woldian holy symbol in the air. After a moment Dietrich is bathed in a deep red aura.
"Be prepared, no?" he asks Dietrich.
Berlon casts Air Walk on Dietrich. (70 minutes)

Dietrich couldnīt agree more with Berlonīs comment. What is it with these evil monsters that they all have to be ugly and smelly?
Upon the received ability to walk on the air, the warrior rushes forward to attack one of the beasts from behind (assuming a move gets him there). He puts some extra power in the blow (powerattack +4 damage, -4 to hit, +2 flanking, 0 from Wardds amullet this turn): "hits" ac 13 (Ļ%$Ļ%Ļ)
Seeing his friends in a casting frenzy again, Dietrich shouts: "Save your magic! Itīs just two Ļ%#$Ļ%$ harpies! Fire the longrange weapons instead!"
Also, seeing that almost everyone came after him, he calls to the ones that are still in the library: "Go after Oni and help the youths!"
Oni Thursday December 14th, 2006 3:10:35 PM
Oni can see the flying creatures. It seems they are not too dangerous. It almost seems to him that they are a diversion. He moves further into the courtyard, staying close to a wall. That should allow him some protection.
"Lads, move to cover, they are not too great of fighters." Sim-ly stated whether he believes it r not. Then Dietrich appears walking on the air, attacking the beast. Odd group he is with, for sure.

Vorelle and Rose spring up the stairs and come out with Dietrich, Olyn, Berlon, and Theodore on the bridge.
Rose's bear has gone back to where he came from.
Dietrich draws his blade and moves across the air to attack the harpy to the east. His strike is true (roll for damage next round Dietrich), and the harpy squeals in pain and flies on. (Dietrich also gets an AoO. Roll for that, too.)
Oni calls for the youths to take cover from the harpies'. They quickly follow orders, moving to press themselves against the wall that also serves as the bridge between the tower and main room on the second floor.
Olyn moves back down the stairs, through the study, and down the hall into the kitchen. The next round will bring him out into the courtyard.
Theodore aims his crossbow and looses his bolt which flies true, sinking into the harpy on the west (Harpy B takes 3 HP damage).
The harpy that Dietrich damaged flies at Theodore and strikes him mightily with a knotty club. (Harpy A hits Theodore for 6 HP damage) She continues on past the bridge to the north. (Berlon gets an AoO on Harpy A)
The other harpy makes a bee line for Dietrich and gives him a ringing blow to the noggin (Harpy B hits Dietrich for 2 HP damage) and zips past to the east.

(OOC - Actually, I misspoke when I said the bridge served as the northeast border. It's actually the northwest border. The hallway you all went through to get to the tower study is the bridge, on the second floor.)
Vorelle sends three shafts into the harpy that had damage Theodore. The monster drops from the sky onto the jagged rocks below. She twitches for a moment and is still.
Rose summons forth an unseen servant and Piper pulls a wolverine from the bag of tricks which appears on the bridge. (Using the unseen servant to entangle the harpy with a rope is beyond the scope of the spell.)
Dietrich finishes off the the other harpy as she sails by, cleaving one of her wings from her body, she spirals into the courtyard and ceases to move.
With both harpies down, Sharif, Arngrim, and Leo move back into the open. Sharif pokes the harpy Dietrich felled with his sword and looks up at the floating warrior. "Nice hit! Do we still need to stay in the courtyard?"
After a quick recollection, the party still hasn't explored the stairs leading up from the dining hall, the spiral stairs continuing up through the tower, the gate leading out of the courtyard, and the door across the bridge.

He's the tactician, after all, he thinks.
"Yes, let's see what's through this door," he says pointing to the door on the far side of the bridge.
DM Shegger Monday December 18th, 2006 9:48:36 PM
Dietrich descends to the courtyard and berates the Dirt City boys for a moment about not staying by the door.
"But we were!" Leo says in complaining tone.
"Yeah!" Arngrim agrees. "We only opened the door when we heard the scream. Then we saw those...things...and came out to see if you needed help."
"So," Sharif begins. "Can we stick with you guys, now? I don't want to watch a stupid door, anymore."
Dietrich recommends checking out the door across the bridge first.
Vorelle doesn't mind where they go next, but she nocks an arrow, deciding to go it careful.
Berlon kindly heals Theodore's wounds, who thanks the gnome for his generosity.
Oni decides to stick with the Dirt City boys to keep them company.

Vorelle inspects the room for signs of recent but discovers nothing out of the ordinary.
Dietrich urges caution as he floats into the air with a silly grin upon his face.
Rose inspects the desk and wardrobe but finds nothing of interest on or in either. They both appear to have been made by ship timbers. Seeing as their's no trees to be found on this island, the furniture was probably made from busted up boats and ships.
Vauhwyt urges Rose to inspect everything and drag her over should she find any traps. In the meantime, Vauhwyt decides to sit at the convenient desk and add onto the map she's been keeping.
Theodore sits on the bed but quickly stands back up after an ominous creak. Clearly the bed is too old to support any weight. Even that of a skinny wizard. He meanders over to the desk to sift through drawers and such. Much like Rose, he finds nothing but blank parchment that crumbles at a touch and an ink jar with dried up ink.

Vauhwyt gazes about the room in a sudden state of confusion.
Oni stands strong and straight as he keeps an eye out for danger. He hopes to set a good example for the Dirt City boys.
Instead, they mill about the room, inspecting the walls and the two doors.
Sharif stands next to the southern door and looks back at the party. "Should we go through here," he asks in a loud whisper.
Berlon chides Theodore and asks what the plan is. Theodore answers by saying they're searching for the captain's daughter.
Along with the southern door, there is another door to the east. Both are closed. Both appear to be made of a thin, cheap wood and lockless.

Berlon bestows a title on the skinny wizard while Shariff moves past Theodore into the hall. Leo and Arngrim follow quickly, weapons drawn, eager for some action.
(OOC - Next post will be Sunday evening.)
rose Friday January 5th, 2007 4:00:43 AM
rose opens the door that theo didnt so that they know what's behind each door.
ooc: i would like a map of some sort
Dietrich Friday January 5th, 2007 6:07:15 AM
While Rose opens the other door, Dietrich stays by her, longbow ready.
At Berlons comment, Dietrich says:
"I donīt find it a good idea for Theo to be opening doors. Iīd suggest for ALL future doors to be examined and opened either by our scouts, or by the more robust members of the party. Theo is propably the most inappropriate guy for this job and should always stay in a guarded secondary or terciary position, from where he can safely use his spells to support us."
"The next doors should be examined and opened by the scouts, closely accompanied by clerics, for the case that more undead are ahead, and than some warrior for firepower."
Vauhwyt Friday January 5th, 2007 10:03:15 AM
Vauhwyt sticks with the group, counting on Dietrich's good sense4 to get them out of trouble.
Oni Friday January 5th, 2007 11:18:22 PM
Oni watches as the impatient youths run to the front. He laughs to himself, nice to be young and full of life, short as it is.
Vorelle Saturday January 6th, 2007 3:47:49 PM
"I-I c-can help with d-d-doors," says Vorelle softly. She suspects that Rose and Vauhwyt are better at it, but she is willing to pitch in if needed.
Berlon - Eagles Splendor 41r, Air Walk (Dietrich) 694r Sunday January 7th, 2007 1:14:58 PM
Berlon sighs again. "Theo," he says quietly, "I was just kidding about you opening the doors..." He smiles, ready to move on.
Theodore & Macaw Sunday January 7th, 2007 9:59:48 PM
"I'm not completely helpless," Theodore replies to Dietrich. "I may not be as strong as you, but I don't need to be coddled."
He seems a little perturbed at being treated like a glass rod.
"We should keep moving," he says, moving into the hall. "The longer we stay in one place, the more likely we'll draw unwanted attention to ourselves."
DM Shegger Sunday January 7th, 2007 10:00:09 PM
Rose opens the eastern door while Dietrich covers her with his bow. She discovers a privy. She reports that the room is ten by twenty feet. The privy is located againts the north wall.
Vauhwyt waits patiently for the others to explore the area.
Oni chuckles at the Dirt City boys' impatience.
Vorelle and Berlon are ready to continues forward.
Theodore moves into the hall and suggests the rest follow.
The three Dirt City boys move about the hall and take up places by the three doors, waiting on the rest.
Vorelle d20+12=14 Monday January 8th, 2007 12:19:53 AM
In an effort to keep things moving, Vorelle steps up and listens at the next door. For some reason, though, she finds it difficult to concentrate.
[Listen 14]
Berlon - Eagles Splendor 40r, Air Walk (Dietrich) 693r Monday January 8th, 2007 3:23:42 PM
"Now now Theo, everyone knows your value. We tease because we care," Berlon reassures Theo with a smile.
"But you ARE right, we need to move along..."
Theodore & Macaw Monday January 8th, 2007 8:34:30 PM
"All right," he says when Berlon tries to calm him. "I guess that's okay, then."
He watches Vorelle as she listens at a door. Unless she hears something, he'll ask one of the Dirt City boys to open the door, trying to play by Dietrich's guidelines.
rose Monday January 8th, 2007 9:01:25 PM
rose uses the room she found and then follows the others.
Vauhwyt and Mookie Tuesday January 9th, 2007 2:02:27 AM
Mookie says, "Why is the cannon fodder opening doors?"
"Bad way to put it," Vauhwyt tells her bird, "but a valid question."
She stands directly behind the newbie opening the door, ready to protect him (by poking over his head with a longspear) if he gets in trouble.
Or she will open the door if there is any problem.
Dietrich Tuesday January 9th, 2007 7:29:18 AM
Dietrich listens to Theo and says: "Come on man, I know about your power. Itīs just about using everyone according to his capabilities and characteristics. And yours are not for opening doors and staying at the front line."
The warrior hopes the next doors will be checked following the general plan, as heīs very aware of the truth in Mookieīs comment.
CDM Jerry Tuesday January 9th, 2007 11:56:32 AM
Would the ADM please do the report for last week's posting and email me to let me know it's done. Thanks friends :)
DM Shegger Tuesday January 9th, 2007 9:40:02 PM
It seems everyone's for keeping things moving. No one wants to stick around any longer than they have to.
Vorelle takes the initiative and puts an ear against the western door. She doesn't hear anything, but is the first to admit that means nothing.
Theodore asks Sharif to open the door. The fighter quickly obliges, pushing the portal inward, Vauwhyt standing directly behind him. Beyond lies a balcony that overlooks the sea. This probably served as a relaxing spot to watch the sun set over the vast waters.
Just this moment, a curtain of rain and choppy waves serve as the landscape. The light drizzle is growing progressively stronger. Further away, you notice a tell-tale flashing among the clouds to the north.
A storm's a-brewin'!
Back in the hall, Leo and Arngrim wait by the eastern and southeastern doors. There is also a stair leading down, probably to the dining hall where the dispatched zombies lay.

"We should regroup with the others and go from there. Splitting up for more than a few moments at a time is probably not a good thing in a place as..." he seems to ponder his exact words, "unsettling as this..."
Vorelle Wednesday January 10th, 2007 12:30:14 AM
Vorelle nods agreement to Berlon's suggestion. She, too, would be more comfortable if they all stuck together. She begins moving toward the hall, glancing back to see if the others are following.
Dietrich Wednesday January 10th, 2007 6:13:53 AM
Dietrich nods at Berlons comment and leads the group to the eastern door, bow ready.
He takes short notice of the storm, but doesnīt think it will have any impact on their task here.
Vauhwyt and Mookie Wednesday January 10th, 2007 6:29:57 AM
Vauhwyt follows Dietrich's lead and follows the sae procedure if a newbie is opening the door. Or she will open it herself.
If anyone wants to listen, she'll wait for that, of course.
rose Wednesday January 10th, 2007 2:36:25 PM
rose follows the others.
ooc: could someone make a map, I'm not sure where everyone is and what we've explored
Theodore & Macaw Wednesday January 10th, 2007 9:33:03 PM
Theodore moves with the rest of his friends to the door. He stands back to let others open the door, first.
DM Shegger Wednesday January 10th, 2007 9:35:21 PM
Berlon recommends keeping the group together. Everyone else seems to be in agreement. Dietrich and Vorelle lead the way through the hall to the eastern door.
Vauhwyt steps up to push the door inwards, revealing a small library. The room is 35' x 20', with a semicircular window seat for reading. Two bookcases face each other from the north and south of the room. There are seven tables around the room, each against the wall, used for studying literature, no doubt.
The room appears to be empty. It is also quite dark. The storm outside is impedeing the natural light. To be able to see properly, a light source will need to be produced.
The Dirt City boys peer into the room, but wait for an order to enter before doing so.
Rose d20+8=20 d20+5=8 d20+7=21 d20=17 d20+8=14 d20+10=28 d20+10=25 d20+10=29 d20+10=28 d20+6=7 d20+3=4 d20+10=24 Thursday January 11th, 2007 4:51:20 AM
Rose reaches into her belt pouch and pulls out some ribbons that glow as brightly as a torch. She puts one in her hair where it will shine whereever she looks, ties one to Vauhwyt's tail (cause it looks nice), ties one around Piper's neck so she can look up high, and ties one in a big bow in Dietrich's hair.
Rose will then begin looking around the room especially checking out if she wants to take any books home, and looking for secret hiding places or passage ways and for traps.
Piper stays right above rose's head looking at the books and stuff on the top of the shelves.
ooc: can I have a complete list of books?

Dietrich Thursday January 11th, 2007 6:31:23 AM
Itīs good Dietrichīs face is hidden behind the heavy steel helmet, so as not to show his annoyed expression when Rose ties the ribbon at his helmet (Dietrich has very short hair).
Other than that, the warrior waits for the search of the room. Libraries are excellent places for hidden doors...
Berlon - Eagles Splendor 39r, Air Walk (Dietrich) 693r d20+1=14 Thursday January 11th, 2007 7:48:10 AM
With his eyes still adjusting to the low light, Berlon will produce an Everburing Torch to help with the situation. He watches Rose produce and apply the ribbons, but manages to suppress any comments about the pretty, pretty bow in Dietrich's hair.
Instead, he focuses on a search of the room.

Vauhwyt Thursday January 11th, 2007 3:00:07 PM
The liontaur swishes her tail, sending shadows dancing around the room. She laughs, "Thanks, Rose!"
She casts a Detect Magic and concentrates on everything in the room. slowly moving to scan the whole thing.
Vorelle Thursday January 11th, 2007 8:23:07 PM
Vorelle smiles at the pretty glowing ribbons, then frowns when one is tied onto Dietrich. I think sometimes Rose goes too far, she thinks.
The light is useful, though, and she steps into the room to take a quick look around.
[Take 10 on a cursory search and get a 21]
Theodore & Macaw Thursday January 11th, 2007 10:05:08 PM
Theodore tries to peer over shoulders when Rose and Berlon provide light. Otherwise, he stays out of the way, curious what tomes the library might contain.
DM Shegger Thursday January 11th, 2007 10:05:48 PM
As soon as Rose produces her light sources, you are greeted by a horrible sight.
Three distorted shadows are creeping towards you with malicious intent. They appear to be about fifteen feet to the northeast from the door you are standing at. The southernmost bookcase is five feet directly east of the door.
When the lights come on, the shadows snarl something unintelligible and scatter. One breaks north, the other northeast, and the last southeast. Each going for darkness.
Berlon produces an everburning torch to add to the illumination while the rest of the party take stock of the library.
(OOC - I will consider Vauhwyt's detect magic uncast, unless she still wants to have cast it. First round of combat, ladies and gents! Unless you wish to leave the library and look elsewhere.)
Rose d4+1=3 d4+1=5 d20+8=28 d20+5=15 d20+7=12 d20+4=9 Thursday January 11th, 2007 11:18:42 PM
Rose immediatly points her finger at the nearest shadow and chants some words. Two red dots shoot from her finger and hit it.
She also tries to recall anything she may know about the creatures.
ooc 1: ok everyone if you dont like rose tying bows on Dietrich's head dont forget that Dietrich is 2-3 feet taller than the 3'3" rose. Which means that all that had to happen was either Dietrich took the bow from me or he bent down for me to tie it.
ooc 2: Hey Shegger I guess this fight gives you time to make me that list of books :) when can I use the stuff rose got from the xmas tree?
Dietrich AC 20 HP 65/71 , air walk d20+8=18 d8+5=10 Friday January 12th, 2007 6:16:16 AM
When he sees the enemy, Dietrich immediatelly fires his longbow: hits ac 18; damage 10 (magical)
Then he lets the bow down and fastdraws the great-sword. "Rose, back! Warriors, Clerics, forward!"
ooc: Dietrich let Rose tie the light on him (very useful). He just didnīt like the girly part, but didnīt say anything. I was just trying to interact with Roseīs excellent roleplay by stating the warriorīs internal reaction to it.

Berlon tries to get a better look at exactly what they are looking at. Are they undead? (Spot check 8)
Seeing the others fire, he also lets loose with a heavy crossbow bolt.
Heavy Crossbow attack (standard action) hits AC 7 (nat 1)
Cursing his bad aim, he drops his crossbow at his feet (free action) and draws his mace. (move action)
