DM BigTim Monday December 4th, 2006 10:15:38 AM
I was going to start the new module today, but, I would rather roleplay the aquisition of a new place for you to live plus hiring/not hiring caretakers of this new place. Plus, I need this week to finish writing up the module, being I didnt know I needed to do it before starting.
So, feel free to converse amongst yourselves, come up with ideas, and when you choose to go off asking questions of NPCs, I will jump in.
Plus, this extra time gives those of you who havent turned in your updated character sheet a chance to do so.
Bin Monday December 4th, 2006 1:27:37 PM
Looking to the group "Agreed, let us finish our drinks and head to the.." he trails off in thought before he adds, "Where do you think we should start? A constable? Or should we just start looking in the areas we are interested in and see if something is for sale? I would enjoy indoor plumbing if this city has it."
Xenia Monday December 4th, 2006 3:57:33 PM
"Hey, Happy!" Xenia rises from her seat and gives Bin a wink. She strolls across the floor to the big and jolly owner of the Giggling Ghost. "Hey, we were, you know, thinking of maybe settling back in around here somewhere again." She leans on the bar, just kinda casually chatting.
"That place that Lady Firiona gave to the group sure was nice. It was good, you know, being across from the orphanage and all. But, I'm sure the nobles and everyone got their hands full helping folks who lost everything in the Plant Attack. Must be a big thing putting stuff back together again after everything got pretty much destroyed. So we were thinking of buying ourselves this time. We got some cash put together, and now we're just looking."
"You, um ... " and the rogue grins an insider info sorta grin " ... wouldn't happen to know anyone around here interested in selling, would you?"
Wynn Monday December 4th, 2006 5:24:38 PM
Wynn listens to the chatter about a new place and whether orphanages remain in their future or not.
"My life pledge to Bralin Stoneminder and the Clan Corregan was to see to the security of Mama Faust's orphanage. I believe that pledge to be completed, absent a few visits to see how things fare. This leaves me free to pursue my own direction, whatever that may be. I do know that I have no heart for commerce having already lost my family's small fortune in ill-fated business affairs. I would be quite satisfied with a simple home that can be secured during long absences, for my heart still yearns for adventure and travel."
Belkior Monday December 4th, 2006 9:19:01 PM
The halfling cleric listens to the discussion about purchasing property while studying the cloth and items that he purchased at the Catacombs.
When it comes time, he can certainly aid Xenia or whoever is negotiating. But right now he needs to spend some time working on a tabard to show his allegiance to Alemi.
Angus Monday December 4th, 2006 10:18:50 PM
Angus drain yet another glass of wine and then he stands "Happy I hope all of us can stay at the Ghost tonight. We need to rest up to look for a new place to stay. May you know of anyone that may have a vacant lot one the fence level? Or one that needs to be clean up?"
Angus waits for an answer from the Ghost genial owner.
NPC Happy Tuesday December 5th, 2006 10:42:20 AM
Looking at Angus.
Private, semi-private or common? Private: 2g per night Semi-private: 1g5s per night Common: 1sp per person, 10 bunks
Private and semi-private include a hearty breakfast.
Looking at Xenia he gives a half smile. Not off the top of my head I don't, but I will ask around. You could also go to the land office on gold level and see if they have anything open. But you need to hurry, there are a couple people buying up real estate left and right.
Angus Tuesday December 5th, 2006 11:00:40 AM
Angus smiles at Happy "I will take one private and two semi private rooms for all of us, that is if you have enough room. I will take them for the week so that we find more permanent arrangement. Any chance for a volume discount?"
Angus looks back at the rest of the Shields "That takes care of the temporary lodgings. Rest up, It sounds like we have a big day tomorrow scouting out a new home and maybe a business."
Angus splits off Wynn from the group. "You have the private room, the rest of us can stay in the other two rooms." Angus walks away, but not before he winks at Wynn.
------------------
ooc: Tim, I will mark off the money for the weeks stay after Happy answers the volume discount question.
Xenia Tuesday December 5th, 2006 12:39:20 PM
... someone else ... Someone else!!!
grrrrr A little growly tick rolls at the back of Xenia's throat. That's a lotta gall! Stealing her idea. Probs buyin' stuff up and making poor folks pay rent too!!!
"Um, thanks Happy," the dark girl replies with a kinda sorta vexed look on her face. "We'll go up there in the morning and just see what they have left!" Then her face softens. "Thanks." She gives the big man another hug. "Hope they got something left around here still."
She drifts in with Wynn as the group falls out for bed.
"I'd go with you, Wynn. You know. Wherever in the Wold you go," she takes his arm and lays her head on his shoulder. "You know I'd be willing to follow."
Bin Tuesday December 5th, 2006 12:59:58 PM
Smiles at Angus and says, "Thank you for the consideration. I think I will stay and have one more drink then, if it's to late to start looking now." Bin sits back down with the group and orders a round for them all. "Excuse me barmaid? What's the cost for a full round at this table please? lets set them up. Perhaps three or four plates of cheeses and bread also?"
Happy Tuesday December 5th, 2006 3:54:04 PM
Answering Angus' question
5g for the 3 rooms x 10 (week) = 50g
Ill throw in the evening meal with that price. (there's your discount)
Lang & Sunshine Tuesday December 5th, 2006 7:32:32 PM
Lang takes Sunshine outside for a quick walk. Once back inside he sits and listens to the conversation regarding lodging and the Shields future.
Belkior Tuesday December 5th, 2006 9:55:47 PM
The halfling cleric is concentrating more on his project, letting the conversation swirl about him. When everyone else retires for the night, Belkior does so as well.
Well before dawn breaks, Belkior is back up and preparing for his day. First there are meditative exercises, sorely missed during the stressful time in the jungle. Then prayers to Alemi, although sometimes Belkior can't tell afterwards when the prayers started and meditation ended. Finally, he breaks his fast. Through experience, the little Paragon has learned that not all of his companions share his enthusiasm for early rising. So he tries to be as quiet as possible.
Then, it's back to his work on the garment. He needs to work as quickly as possible, although he is ready to venture up to the Lands Office when Xenia goes. Maybe his presence will help things along. Maybe not - some people simply don't like the physical reminder of Alemi's place in the Wold.
Either way, Belkior is looking forward to the new day.
Wynn Wednesday December 6th, 2006 1:25:01 AM
Wynn sits quietly as his friends and companions plan for the party's future. He nurses his ale, and enjoys the food and company. When it grows late, he stands and looks enquiringly at the half-drow, before making his way upstairs to the room designated by Angus.
*****
In the morning the bard washes up and puts on his cleanest clothes. He adds the Hat of Disguise which transforms him into a respectable looking half elf, in a handsome, if somewhat reserved dark outfit appropriate for paying a visit to official types at the land office.
DM BigTim Wednesday December 6th, 2006 2:05:13 AM
The night passes by uneventful. And except for a few tossing and turnings everyone sleeps soundly.
Sunshine is a bit hesitant about going outside but heeding natures call he gives in and goes with Lang. Lang, upon exiting the Ghost realizes Sunshine's uneasiness by not only seeing the gray sky but the smell of rain in the future.
Everyone hears the faint thundering, then growing louder as the pelting of water hits the roof and peering out of the inns' windows, you can see the start of a downpour.
As everyone ( I Assume ) gathers downstairs for breakfast, a few people can be heard talking over eggs: Man : sure hope this rain doesnt last long, will make for the festivities to be dreery. Woman : for sure, speaking of the festivities, have you put in the order for our masks yet? I would hate to see my sister brag about getting hers first again this time. Man : yes dear, I put them in last week. They should be ready by tomorrow or so says the mask maker.
Everyone is served a healthy portion of eggs, sausage, cheese and bread along with butter and honeyjam. A pitcher of wine and ale is also put on the table with a mug in front of each.
Xenia d20+3=7 Wednesday December 6th, 2006 11:04:36 AM
Quiet and demure, Xenia follows Wynn as he retires for the night. It's a transformation for the roguish girl, a thing that only he has been able to affect in her.
Sweetly the night passes.
Morning, in it's turn, comes soon enough. Xenia floats amongst the steamy wisps that rise from the placid surface of her morning bath. She eyes the pale summer dress that she had laid out upon the bed, a flower print of Callas against a light cream background. Then her eye catches the window and the spatter-spang of drops upon the pane.
Oh pooh.
Not the right weather for a summer dress. Who's idea was this anyway!?! Not the right weather at all. Waves roll across the steam fogged sea of the bath, and her hair becomes a floating bed of copper colored kelp as the dark girl ducks under the surface one last time before rising to pick out a different outfit for the day.
Dressing for the day, across the bed from Wynn, Xenia slips the plain band of metal onto her finger. She'd been waiting for this for so long. Only one other ring in the Wold might be better. She closes her eyes and calls up the magic. A slight tinge of green to the lids of her eyes. The faintest blush of red to her lips. Gold loops at her ears. She colors her blouse a pristine white instead of the black that it really is, and adds accents of rich greens and browns and golds to the rest of her outfit.
Xenia turns in the mirror, her cape a swirl. She grins at Wynn and holds up her hand to show him the ring, a mate, in its way, to his Disguising Hat.
Down at breakfast, the conversations from surrounding tables come to the dark pointed ears of the girl rogue in the midst of a slather of honeyjam on soft warm bread.
"Masks!" Xenia licks honeyjam from the tips of her fingers. "Didja hear? I read sum'pin about this, some kinda Festival of Masks. Dressing up and stuff." She frowns. "Can't 'member much more of what it's about, though." (Knowledge Local 7 /bleh)

Belkior d20+3=10 Wednesday December 6th, 2006 2:36:30 PM
The halfling cleric is in the dining room waiting for the others when they come down for breakfast. He has carefulyl avoided the sausage and eggs, and the cheese also sits untouched. Even as good as it is, the bread and sweets are sufficient to satisfy Belkior in the morning so he motions a server over to the table.
"Can I please have a bowl of porridge? Preferably a multigrain one with flaxseed, if you can."
When Xenia arrives, Belkior has been trying not to overhear the couple as they converse. When Xenia whispers about the Masks, he shrugs.
"Sorry, Xenia. I spent too much time at the Temple, not enough down here. I don't know much about it either."
"So, are we going to wait for the rain to end before we go? Or head out there now?"
Wynn d20+7=9 d20+7=10 Wednesday December 6th, 2006 9:17:59 PM
Wynn scowls a little as he tries to remember...something (Knowledge History=9, Knowledge Local=10). "Maybe it is something new?" he says, then correcting himself, he adds, inclining his head towards the chatting party, "but that one indicates this has happened before." Arching one eyebrow, he adds, "a masquerade?"
Lang & Sunshine Wednesday December 6th, 2006 9:24:22 PM
Lang & Sunshine head back into the Ghost when the rain starts to threaten. He over hears the conversations about the party that is coming up quickly.
"Perhaps we can go over to the library and see what we can find out about the origins of the ball. Maybe Syr feels better he can tell us since he has spent a lot of time in the Floating City."
"I least I do not need a mask," Lang says with a grin, pointing at his bugbear face.
Bin Wednesday December 6th, 2006 10:01:02 PM
Coming down stairs, he is not bashful about eating. In fact, one would think he could keep up with 300 pound warrior in a contest. Looking up from his eggs, bread and meat he see's others looking at him and say's "One never knows when one will eat again. Old habits die hard." He flashes a friendly smile and continues until he is full.
"I have no aversion to getting wet if the rest of you don't. perhaps we can find out about these festivites on our way to the land office?
Angus Wednesday December 6th, 2006 10:34:35 PM
Angus sleeps well and recovers his spell potential in the morning before heading dow for breakfast. Upon hearing about the festival Angus calls over Daphne the freindly ghostly barmaid. "Hi Lass, what can you tell me about the mask festival that is coming? Are you going to attend?"
CDM Jerry Thursday December 7th, 2006 9:01:11 AM
Thanks for the report JohnP. I need to know the ADM report is covered until Scott returns. Please email me and let me know this is taken care of for the near future.
Daphne Thursday December 7th, 2006 10:26:33 AM
With a smile only a fair maiden of the ghostly persuation can give, the lovely barmaid glides over to the table with Angus.
Smiling at him and everyone at the table: I only know a little but I will answer your question as best as I can.
Day of Masks-- This day is celebrated by several cultures on the peninsula in different ways. In the Floating City, it is the most important day of the year. For most cultures it is a "fun" day, It's meaning lost in the annals of time. In the Big Float and for the People of the Turtle, it is a matter of freedom and captivity, youth and old age. On this day, all citizens wear masks to hide their identity. For if they are one of the twenty chosen, their lives are irrevocably changed. On this day at mid-morning, the Underlord and the twenty Undercrats whose twenty years of service are completed, form a grand procession up through the city levels their way paved with flowers. These flowers are grown for a whole year with loving care by the citizenry in window boxes, due to a lack of land, just for this day. When the procession arrived on the top level, it enters the Temple of Caeroldra where a service is conducted by the Chief Servant known as the Evocation of Youth is held. There the twenty Undercrats are laid upon with hands and are transformed back to become the age of their choice, with or without their previous memories. From there, the procession makes the rounds of the other Big Four Temples and then enters the Arena. There a tournament takes place with both the Underlord and Overlord presiding. This begins with a speech from the Overlord concerning the status of the city and to thanks the Underlord for his service. This is followed by an address from the Underlord where he confirms the security of the realm and thanks the Twenty for their service. The procession of the Overlord then commences, forming on the Arena floor and led by the day's champions. The mood of the day then sobers when twenty trumpets sound announcing the Choosing. The crowd exits hurriedly to find a place along the procession route. The procession heads down through the levels and the difference in the demeanor of the crowd is marked. No one talks. The shuffling feet of the turtles as they proceed bearing the Overlord, can always be heard. Occasionally the droning of various religious groups can be heard as they give thanks for not being chosen. During the descent, the Crown of the Overlord glows green and sends a ghost-like image of itself to float above the crown where it settles on someone's head. And thus are the chosen selected. Eventually the procession disappears down the Underramp and the crowd explodes in celebration at not being chosen for another year. The masks are torn off and the celebrating continues far into the night. Those who are chosen spend twenty years working for the Underlord as an Undercrat. Reputed jobs done by Undercrats include: 1) acting as The Seekers writing the histories of the Wold's past and present via the Time Seeing Stones; 2) acting as the Custodians who monitor the floating of the city; and 3) working as the Preservers who monitor Dragon Bay and other interests that the Teucri left behind.
For most Citizens of the Float, the Day of Masks begins weeks and even months earlier. First, all citizens order or commission a mask. Those who order, go to a mask display store and select from the hundreds of masks of tradition, i.e. masks with proven track records of nonselection. You see, the Floating Citizens are very superstitious about their masks. They select their masks by multiple criteria which include: 1) the track record of the mask; 2) how many people have purchased this mask this year, because some thing that there is safety in large numbers and some the opposite; 3) cost; 4) station in life, for some buy masks above, on, or below their station); 5) the year, month and day of someone's birth, possibly theirs; 6) and a multitude of other criteria. Many also spend huge sums of coin to design or commission new masks which could be one of a kind or later become a common design. All of this is done to avoid being chosen as one of The Twenty, or in unusual cases in an effort to be chosen. Second, all citizens either change identities with someone or pretend to. This is usually done with a friend or with someone who has the same occupation so that the cover is believable. Sometime, days or hours before the Choosing, they arrange the switch. Some reveal afterward who they switched with, some do not, some choosing to exchange with the same person every year. It is considered rude to ask someone of their specific plans or strategies for mask day. Even families, kin, and spouses don't talk of their plans. Many use this opportunity of animosity
to swap-wives by switching identities or to pull off a crime or slick business deal. Even though specifics are considered anathema, what happened last year and, who's reemerging this is the talk of the town.
Past experience has created law-customs that are followed by everyone. First, no citizen under age 16 can be chosen. Second, once the trumpets sound announcing the choosing, no one may change masks, alter their current mask in any way, put on a mask, or remove one. Third, visitors to the Floating city are eligible as well as citizens. Fourth, those chosen must be alive at the time of their choosing.
copied from history and politics from Duncan's travels
Smiling at the table, she goes about her duties with a wink.
Bin Thursday December 7th, 2006 10:58:51 AM
Bin looks around at the group and with low tones as Daphne leaves, Bin says "I don't know about the rest of you, but I've got plans for the next twenty years, already in service to another. I'm more then willing to skip this ceremony myself. Which day does it occur?"
Xenia Thursday December 7th, 2006 11:01:26 AM
"Rain's what we got cloaks for." The rogue takes another slab of warm bread slathered in honeyjam and balances it on fingertips as she makes to the door and back for a look up at the sky.
Munching the sweet bread, Xenia listens quietly as Daphne tells of the Festival of Masks.
"Lets stop in and look at Masks on our way back from the Land Office," she suggests. "Sounds like fun. And I don't think I'd like to get chose or nothing, if you know what I mean."
"Wonder if they have a Cat mask. I think I'd like a Cat mask. Or maybe a pixie or sump'in."
Belkior jumps to his feet when the import of the falling water outside comes to him.
"The Float is leaking! The forest's attack must have broken something! Is Thunir close by with his magical boat?"
Belkior rushes to the door and sticks his head outside to peer upwards at the level overhead, trying to identify the source of the falling water. Eventually, Belkior's normal demeanour comes to the forefront when he realizes that the Wold is not, in fact, sinking into the lake. Down here on Fence Level, that fear is ever present. But today it simply seems to be wind-driven rain that is sweeping far enough into the Level that the Ghost is getting wet.
Belkior turns back to his companions and wipes the water from his forehead.
"Sorry, everyone. Just ... ah ... a little moment, there. Guess I've been wound pretty tight since the plant-creatures and all of that."
Belkior sheepishly returns to the table and gets back onto his stool.
"Maybe something like this Mask Festival would be a good idea. Wonder if the temples have masks for clerics like Bin and I?"
Lang & Sunshine Thursday December 7th, 2006 4:17:54 PM
Great Lang thinks. Twenty years of service even if you do not want it. Reminds him of Prionel and the Crying Woods.
"So do we get masks and try to get picked? Or do we lie low and hide?
Angus Thursday December 7th, 2006 7:21:39 PM
Angus is also concerned that it is raining outside as the group is on the inside of the great Floating city. Angus can worry about that later as he is more concerned about being in the service of another for 20 years. "We might bring more attention on ourselves if we attempt to avoid the festival. I say we go get masks and separate into groups of two or three. We need to stay in the same area, but lets try not to be picked."
Angus wipes his hand on his brow, feigning the removal of sweat.
Wynn Thursday December 7th, 2006 11:16:11 PM
The bard listens to the tale told by the ghost, a frown on his face. "How are individuals chosen?" Wynn gives voice to the many questions he has. "Are they chosen for certain qualities or a religious allegiance? Or, is it a random thing?"
Happy Thursday December 7th, 2006 11:31:22 PM
As he walks by the tables to look out of the window, Happy remarks:
It is total random. And it matters not if you wear a mask or are an official citizen of the city. You live in the city, or you are in the city visiting, you are eligible to be picked.
Noone knows how anyone is picked. It is the one mystery of this fine city that noone but the god's can unravel.
BIn Friday December 8th, 2006 10:29:19 AM
Bin listen's to Happy as he reflects on the others comments. "I am sure the possibility of us being chosen are extremly slim considering the population of this city, but if you narrow it down the possibility of one of us being chosen and the others not is much higher." Bin asks Happy, "Has anyone ever refused to serve? or has anyone ever been picked that did not partake in the ceremony? For instance, did this ghost of the Over Lord ever leave the procession to enter someones home that had not attended?"
Xenia Friday December 8th, 2006 10:59:40 AM
"Well, I don't wanna be chose or nothin' like that." Xenia rips off another hunk of bread and dips it into the honeyjam. She makes a kinda sorta frowny face at how messy it is, but takes up a napkin and gingerly bites at the sweet corner with her even white teeth.
"Bu i' shee a me tha ... " She licks her lips and swallows her bit of bread. "But it seems to me that it's, like, you know, a civic duty and stuff. I mean, you do your best not to be chose. But if you are, you go and serve. And you're, like, doing a service to the city."
"How 'bout you, Happy?" she asks. "You think a person stands a better chance of not getting chose if she gets a mask or no? I mean, do you get a mask? Not that I'm asking what kind of mask and all. Sounds that's a private thing, right? But, I mean, do you think we should get masks or just risk it without?"
The rogue quickly gobbles down the rest of her bread.
"Well? We going up to the Land Office?" She pulls up her hood. "Don't want any of those guys to be getting our land," she says, and heads for the door.
Belkior Friday December 8th, 2006 1:04:21 PM
The halfling cleric hops down from his stool to accompany Xenia. Belkior seems almost eager to get going, to secure some property and then get to the business of building.
"Let's go Xenia. Like I said, before, Bin and I can stop at the temples to see what they do. I guess that the temples probably like their people to get involved in the City. But we won't know for sure until we ask."
Belkior moves along beside Xenia and the others. With the water running along the streets, he has to jump and step carefully to avoid getting wet. Ever since his legs changed, he's found himself becoming more averse to getting wet. Part of it is simply the problem and smell of wet cat fur, but he can't figure it all out. Either way, onlookers would see the small cleric bouncing along in Xenia's wake.
As the move upwards in the Float, they encounter more water running down the streets and ramps. Once they reach the top level of the City, Belkior is trying to hold his cloak over his head to keep rain off. The Land Office is a welcome refuge from the storm, even if it might be crowded. Once he is inside, Belkior will wait patiently until his group has its turn.
Bin Saturday December 9th, 2006 4:52:29 PM
While Bin waits for Happy's reply, he pulls his cloak over his shoulders, downs his drink, and steps toward the door with the others.
Syr Sunday December 10th, 2006 5:21:24 AM
As the group heads up to the land office. Syr relates his previous experiences on Mask Day. "Guys it's really nothing to worry about. There is this huge mass of people and almost everyone gets overlooked." Looking at the bugbear he grins slightly, "It's against the law to hide or not show up for the choosing parade. Also, only the poorest of folk attend the parade with no mask."
Jumping a puddle, "My first Mask Day, I went as a goblin and mother Flauset gave me the mask. The next one, I bought my own and went as a panther. Although, come to think of it, we were hired to obtain a particular mask that year. It's too bad that my panther mask was destroyed with the house."

Looks at Bin. Syr answered your question. Now, I suggest you all catch up with your friends. Is not the home you are seeking for all of you? You all should be there when it is chosen.
Xenia Monday December 11th, 2006 9:31:48 AM
Down Dagger Point to Crook Street and then left down to the Central Pillar. Xenia can't help but look to the west. Somewhere over all the shattered buildings and all the construction is Rogue's Alley and the remains of their apartment.
"I wonder if anyone's bought up the plot across the street from our old place?" she asks. "The one dedicated to the old orphanage. You know, where they buried Mama Flaust. I don't see how anyone could build a place on that ground!" Xenia's getting that growly grrrr sorta feeling at the back of her throat once again.
But ... by the time they're all up on Gold Level it's mostly gone. 'Cause business is business. All you can do is just hope that you haven't been beat out too badly by folks who were buying stuff up while you were out saving the Wold.
"Hi, we wanna buy some Land!" the rogue declares when the group finally reaches the Land Office.
Land Office Employee Monday December 11th, 2006 1:15:25 PM
In mid sentence he looks at Xenia. Um, miss, please, take a number, we will be with you as soon as we can.
Everyone sees the Land Office unusually busy. Not counting yourselves, there are 14 other people waiting, you grab #15.
About an hour after arriving, #14 is called and the fellow holding that number is, lack of a better word, kinda sleazey looking. Greasy black hair, pointy nose, crooked smile yet well dressed. Going up he hands his papers across saying: Ive filled these out like I was told and gotten the proper signatures. *Pulls out a pouch and pours out 10 pristine bloodstones* Here is the payment required. Now, may I have the deed and building permits. My ladies are in dire need of a new home and business.
The Employee disgustingly stamps documents, takes the payment and hands the fellow the required papers and permits. He gives your group another crooked smile, showing a few missing teeth as well, then leaves as #15 is called.
As you step up, make a spot check, dc20. Only read if you made the roll Highlight to display spoiler: {Just before the employee shuffles his paperwork away, you notice the property the person before you purchased was where the orphanage once stood and the buildings to either side}
Looking up she smiles at you saying: Welcome to the Land Office, how may I be of service?
Belkior d20+7=21 d20+4=24 d20+6=22 Monday December 11th, 2006 1:36:02 PM
The halfling cleric edges aside as the sleazy character leaves the Land Office. While Belkior isn't one to judge by appearance, the man's demeanour, words and actions certainly give the impression of someone who is not quite an upstanding citizen. Once he is past, Belkior tugs on Xenia's tunic to get her attention. As discreetly as he can, Belkior whispers to the rogue and whoever else is with him, "Xenia! That man bought the old orphanage plot, and the lots on either side too. Let's see what he might want with them, okay?" Spot = 21
Even though it is normally someone else who does the talking for the group, Belkior decides to try what he can. After straightening his clothes so that the symbol of Alemi is visible, Belkior approaches the counter. With the strongest voice and friendliest manner possible, the little Paragon addresses the clerk. Gather Information = 24, natural 20 (25 if clerk worships Alemi) Diplomacy = 22 (23 if clerk worships Alemi)
"Hello! My companions and I are interested in purchasing some property, down on Fence Level. I couldn't help noticing, not on purpose of course, that the previous customer happened to purchase the property that we were most interested in. Do you have any idea what he wants to use it for? Oh, and by the way, what exactly is the procedure for buying vacant property now?"
Xenia d20+20=27 Monday December 11th, 2006 4:05:45 PM

The sharp eyed rogue cannot help but see the words on the deed.
HEY YOU!
The words nearly escape the dark rogue's lips before she turns to a tug at her waist.
"Yeah, I saw, Belkie. What we gonna do? Didja hear him? I think he's a pimp!"
"Hey, um, 'scuse me!" As Belkior steps up to the Land Office desk, Xenia turns the other way and flags down the Sleaze Guy. "I, ah, noticed that you bought those properties down on Rogue's Alley. That's the site of that Orphanage that burnt down a month or two ago, you know. Dunno if you made it to the funeral. Seems almost everyone from Fence was there when they buried Mama Flaust on the plot and greened it over."
"But, you know, seeing as that's the case, I was just sorta wondering what you had in mind for it?"
Syr d20+6=21 d20+18=35 Monday December 11th, 2006 10:40:40 PM
Syr's eyes light up as he spots the address (spot 21) that the man has just bought. He looks over briefly at the halfling and the dark elf wondering if they need this guy scared a bit but then decides against it.
Taking advantage of the opening as Xenia turns away he quickly palms the ticket she was holding and turns to the clerk, "So we were also looking for something on Pier Row to help start a business. We need something big enough to store some of the building supplies that we will receive. You know, we just want to help the city rebuild and recover, Bin here, "he points out the cleric, "is REALLY new to the city and just wants to help. Any follower of Alemi always have other's best interests at heart." His voice trails off with the promise of hope, "If we could get a piece of property at a good price, that would leave us with more available cash to buy supplies to make the city great once again."
Looking intently at the clerk, "Do you have anything particular that you can discuss?" (Diplomacy 35)
Wynn d20+6=22 d20+17=34 Monday December 11th, 2006 10:42:17 PM
The bard notices the lot number on the last transaction and immediately senses the impending scene. He withdraws to the corner of the room and will follow the new landowner out of the building if he leaves without answering. Once outside he will disuise himself as just another citizen with the use of his hat, and tail the man to his ultimate destination. [Spot=22, Disguise =34]
Sleazy Man Tuesday December 12th, 2006 12:02:58 AM
Just leaving the building and making a couple steps onto the pathway, hearing someone calling out I turn to look.
Annoyed he responds to Xenia: I know who you are, who all of you are, and what I do and what I tend to do with this (holding up the deed) is None of your business.
As he turns and continues on his way you can hear him say: Not everyone likes your meddling ways.
Wynn Highlight to display spoiler: {The man continues along the way, stopping every so often to go into a business and leave, sometimes coming out with a package only to drop it off someplace else. Every so often he looks over his shoulder then shrugs and continues on his way. Eventually he shows up where the remains of the orphanage is, and meets what is plain to see a contractor. They go over papers which to you are building plans, then after a little bit of talking, and a passing of a small bag to him, he goes on. About 20 minutes after leaving, he walks into a tailors business, and doesnt come out. After a few minutes you go inside pretending to be a shopper to find out that you and the tailor are the only ones in the store. He is no where to be seen. There is a closed door across from the front door. And nothing else save for tailoring desk and stuff you'd expect to see in a tailors shop.}
Angus d20+2=16 Tuesday December 12th, 2006 12:12:44 AM
Angus is too busy making small talk with the Shields to notice anything about the sleazy man's paperwork. His interest perks up when he sees various shield members talk to the man and to the clerk.
Angus remains alert, but waits to hear why all the interest in the man.
Lang & Sunshine Tuesday December 12th, 2006 12:17:59 AM
When the group gets to the Land Office he moves towards the back, remaining by the door. He leans against the wall and scratches Sunshine behind the ears. No sense in going up to the clerk, Lang thinks, as he doubts the man will deal with Lang in his Bugbear form.
Lang eyes the man as he leaves with a couple of Shield's following him. He looks towards the remaining members with a quizzical look. All return save Wynn.
"Where did Wynn go? Is he following that man? Does he need someone to back him up."
Lang looks towards Xenia, Belkior and Angus for an answer.
Land Office Employee Tuesday December 12th, 2006 12:29:49 AM
Smiling at Belkior. Well sir. First, you need to decide which level you wish to purchase a plot on. Second, you need to aquire a plot # and then fill out the appropriate paperwork for that plot. *She points to a packet of papers, 2 inches thick* Thirdly, once a price is determined, you pay the price plus all the fees that goes with that including taxes.
As for what the man before you plans on doing with his property, that information is not required. The only thing we need to know is how the property will be used, ie business or resident. Not the particulars of such. So we will know the appropriate fees and taxes to apply. He paid for both business and residence if that helps you out any.
Turning to Syr. Motioning him to follow her she walks over to a table layers in maps. She looks through them til she finds the layout of Pier Row, and puts it on the top. (go to the maps for floating city, Duncan's travel I believe, decide where you want your business and tell me.) (also Syr, a diplomacy check of 35 and saying, do you have anything particular to discuss isnt giving me much to go with. what exactly are you using your diplomacy check for?)
Bin Berry d20+9=11 Tuesday December 12th, 2006 2:41:36 AM
Bin is not one to interfere with anothers business so it wouldn't even occur to him to look at someone else's personal information.
He looks through the paper work that was pointed out to him and using diplomacy asks, "Excuse me sir? Would it be possible for you to tell us what the most expensive property available would be in the city currently? What level and plot number along with cost? Being new here, I really don't know where to look for such things."
Diplomacy 11, to have the clerk do some information leg work for Bin.
Wynn Tuesday December 12th, 2006 7:48:30 AM
The bard mentally kicks himself for being spotted by his quarry and considers what to do next. He turns to the tailor. "Any idea who that man was, the thin well dressed man that entered your shop just before me?"
If the tailor answers he will take note of the name and thank him or her for their time before leaving the shop.
On the way back to the land office, Wynn begins to wonder which of the man's visitations were designed to throw him off the scent, and which were real. In the end he commits the various stops to memory and trusts that his companions can make sense out of it all.

Angus is just starting to get his bearings and adds "The fence level is where most of the business are and may be where we want to purchase a plot?"
Belkior Tuesday December 12th, 2006 2:40:11 PM
The halfling cleric will smile at the woman before grasping the thick stack of paper. He struggles mightily and manages to carry the ream over to where Syr is looking at the map.
"Thank you ever so much, madam! Can we peruse the maps and fill out the forms here? How long will it take after we done the paperwork?"
Belkior will find a table and sets the papers down carefully. Then he pushes the nearest chair over and climbs up to start reading. The paragon leans towards Syr and speaks in a quiet voice, "I'll see what we need to do with these papers, you find a good spot."
Then the only sound is flipping pages as Belkior leafs through the document. After taking the needed time, Belkior will explain to his companions what is needed and then start filling out the forms.

Bin Tuesday December 12th, 2006 6:49:06 PM
In a easy, steady tone, Bin explains his position. "I understand there are some that want a plot on the "Fence" level, but it doesn't seem that safe a place to invest to me. Did not some of you lose property on there once already?" He thinks a moment before he continues, "I was hoping we could decide on security over convenience but since others object, I may well just purchase my own property so that I know it is safe. Anyone else interested in such?" Then looking around to see that not everyone is there, he sighs with a smile and begins the process.
Bin starts filling out the paper work and starts looking for properties available first in the Open Air level, then the Gold level to see what the price range is to own there.
(ooc: I'm not real sure what else Bin would have to do to get that information, but he will follow the protocol to do such. Let me know if they need to leave the office and go somewhere else to get the prices for such properties.)
Syr Wednesday December 13th, 2006 1:02:32 AM
Syr pours over the map with the clerk, "How about this building?" He points to the left of the number 56 on the map. "Do you think you can give us a good price on it?" (Diplomacy 35 to get a discount) "I mean we are opening a business to help rebuild the city and all..." He looks hopefully at the clerk.
The elf raises a small hand in front of Bin trying to delay him, "Hold off for a second, Bin, I'm not quite sure we've decided exactly WHERE to live yet. I just wanted to see about a site for a business that I've been thinking of." Turning to the others he continues with enthusiasm, "What if we pooled resources and hired some help to do construction work in the city? I mean right now, business is booming!" Think about it, I mean, we already have contact with the elves, what if we set something up with Prionel to get the building supplies... We could give them a cut. We have the resources and contacts, we just need to move and manage them.
"As far as this level being safe... We lost property because some huge vines pulled the city on it's side and the buildings collapsed. Not really for any security reasons. You missed out on all the fun to go streaking." The elf says with a perfectly straight face before a smile breaks through.
Xenia Wednesday December 13th, 2006 10:09:49 AM
Xenia walks back into the Land Office, her head turned over her shoulder. "Wee-erd."
"I lost him," is all she says as she comes in on the the conversation between Syr and the skinny guy from the Giant Lizard plains.
"You know, security, ain't just where you put your house, Bin," she adds. "It's mostly how you set things up. Down on Fence, I walk the streets at night without worrying 'bout nothing."
"'Course, there's more Guard up here walking the streets. No denying that. You thinking of leaving lots of valuable stuff lying around?" she asks. Then the rogue turns back to the front door.
"Did you hear him? That guy who bought the orphanage property? He said that he and his girls needed a place to stay. I think he's putting up a brothel! Right over Mama Flaust." Then Xenia sighs. "But he bought the place fair and square. Maybe that's just the way things are. I bet there's lots of places built up top of places that are sacred to some other folks. That's just the way things go."
"Or maybe he didn't do things on the up and up. Huh, Syr? I'm just gonna check. I can't believe that Lady Firiona would sell that property off. Hey, where's Wynn?"
"Excuse me," Xenia places her hands primply upon the edge of the counter, "you think I might get a look at those papers that last guy filled out? I mean, the ones for the properties down on Fence Level that the Greasy Hair guy paid for with the Blood Stones?"
Land Office Employee Wednesday December 13th, 2006 10:28:03 AM
Looking at Xenia. I'm sorry, those are confidential papers. I am sure when you fill out all the paperwork and purchase your property you wouldn't want just anyone going through them as well.
Moving to the map and looking at the building Syr is pointing to. Hmm, let me check, then she moves back behind the counter and pulls out a log type book. Opening it she thumbs through it until she finds the right spot then reads for a second. Pier Row, right? hmm 300 gold, but the previous owner left it in rears, so total, including taxes, back taxes and fees, plus the cost of the plot, 707gp.
DM BigTim Wednesday December 13th, 2006 10:29:44 AM
Going over the paperwork Belkior and Bin figures it would take a few hours of uninteruped work to fill out every piece of paperwork. It involves filing for a business license and aquiring the approval from the merchants union.
As for the range of prices between Open Air and Gold level, Bin realizes its alot, on average on those levels, the cost of property runs closer to 800-1500gp before fees and taxes.
Bin Wednesday December 13th, 2006 10:55:34 AM
"A plant that turned an entire city on it's side? Sounds like a good book. In some ways I am sorry I missed that."
Bin seems pleased with the cost of the upper levels. "Indeed I do plan on keeping valuables at my house, that's why I want one. I want a nice house, with nice furniture. I would like to invite fellow clerics over for a dinner and drinks, all in comfort and safety. I've lived on the streets with many a beggar and it was through the grace of Domi that I bettered myself. That's exactly what I intend to do. Now when it's called the fence level, is it like a fence used to keep out animals and such or is it like a fence that sells stolen property's?"
Bin smiles at Syr's joke and responds, "Please, if your going to tell that story, include that the streaking was involuntary." His face blushes slightly as he bury's his face back into the paperwork to complete it, "We can still purchase a business lot and I am willing to go in on that as well, but I don't plan on living there my friend, just investing in it." He begins looking for two properties next to each other, on the Open Air level, in the hopes he can buy them and join them together to make one large property.
OOC: After reading the description of the fence level again in the Duncan's Travels and knowing what Bin is looking for, he is certain he does not want to live on that level.
Xenia Wednesday December 13th, 2006 3:37:44 PM
The girl rogue shrugs. "Dunno. What's in 'em that makes 'em private? I mean, who own's the land. That's public, right? So is what they paid for it, right? That's part of the tax rolls, right? Doesn't sound like any private stuff in there."
"Hey, couldja show me what properties are still for sale down on Fence Level?" she asks. Then again, she lifts her head and looks around for Wynn.
Wynn Wednesday December 13th, 2006 8:44:48 PM
The bard dashes up the steps and back into the land registry, half expecting to discover his friends already gone. When he sees everybody busily scanning maps and completing paperwork he realizes just how much paperwork is required to run such a large city, and privately hopes he does not somehow get selected to be one of the undercrats.
"Sorry friends!" he exclaims. "He must have known I was tailing him...led me on a bit of a goose chase and eventually lost me at a tailor's shop. He did stop at a building contractor...consistent with his story about building a place for his 'girls'. I didn't find out who he was."

Going back in to the tailor. Shrugging his shoulders when you ask if he knows who the man is.}
Angus Wednesday December 13th, 2006 9:29:00 PM
Angus follows the discussion of the Shields on where they should purchase their next residence.
"Perhaps we should purchase some store-front/warehouse type building on the fence level and a residence on one of the upper levels. This way we can have a presence in more parts of the Floating City, and keep the whole group happy."
Lang & Sunshine Wednesday December 13th, 2006 9:33:26 PM
Lang does not enter the talk on the land or building purchase. He doesn't really care as long as it gives him a place to sleep.
"If possible I would like to have our home have the garden area like the last one did."
Belkior Wednesday December 13th, 2006 9:41:49 PM
The halfling cleric stretches to look at the papers on the table. After seeing that a substantial part of the papers relate to the business license, he turns to Syr.
"Are you sure about starting up this business? We could save ourselves a good bit of time by just buying some property now, then doing the work on getting the business permit later. Not to mention having to deal with the Merchants' Guild."
When Wynn asks about other properties on Fence Level, Belkior nods.
"Good idea Wynn. I mean, we don't want to buy any property with that much tax arrears. At least, not if we have to pay both the lot price and the arrears."
Belkior then turns back to the papers and starts filling out forms, starting with those required for any purchase and leaving the business permit for last.
Land Office Employee d20=3 Wednesday December 13th, 2006 11:15:27 PM
Looking annoyed.
What makes them private? It makes them private because they are in a folder on my side of this counter and I say they are private. And my boss says they are private. And they stay private until a time he decides they are not private.
<pointing to a table where Syr is> And on that table is a pile of maps. Fence level is one of em. Help yourself at looking at them. I have other customers.
Turning to the other people waiting, she calls out: Serving #18.
Xenia Wednesday December 13th, 2006 11:39:08 PM
"Alright." The rogue shrugs and saunters over to the table that the counter girl had stuck her finger at.
"Hey, Syr. You got the map for Fence Level? What's on it that's for sale?"
"Wynn!" Xenia kisses the handsome bard on the cheek by way of welcome. "You did better than me. I lost him right outside the door. What kinda place you looking for? You think there's maybe like a walled compound with separate buildings inside? Maybe on Gold or Merchant? I think I'd like that. Kinda more private."
[ Question: Would you like us to choose an area and have you tell us whether something is available? Or are you going to designate places on the map that are for sale, DM? ]
Just tell me where exactly you want the place to be and there will just happen to be a spot available there. Also, how you want the building to look, ie # of floors, alley access and so on is up to you.
Syr Wednesday December 13th, 2006 11:54:36 PM
Syr hunkers down by the halfling, "I dunno, I mean I want to do something to help the city and also increase our available cash. I mean, the initial cash is not the problem but I want it to grow. Do you suggest we just invest in real estate?" Looking up and around, "Angus is right on with his question. What's the overall feeling of the group, get a house on open air and a business somewhere else? You guys tell me, I want what's best for all of us."
Bin Thursday December 14th, 2006 12:43:57 AM
Bin looks up from his investigating, "I am not opposed to the Gold level if others are not. What I think should be considered most, besides security, is our future potential for growth, in both wealth and loved ones, if anyone plans on settling down some day. I am not at the moment, but I really don't know what plans are in store for my future or if I will ever find what some call love. That is why we should buy two close together so that we may continue to build and grow as needed." As Bin continues to write out the basics of the "red tape" he continues, "Again, for those that can't really afford it right now, just consider it a place to put your gear until you need it again as well as a sanctuary from the Wold, until you can pitch in around the place or add to it later."
Xenia Thursday December 14th, 2006 10:18:04 AM
The rogue pulls out a couple of maps. She takes the lenses up off her nose and parks them up above her forehead, nested in the bright red hair bound by her silver circlet. With a finger, she begins tracing streets.
"You know, I think that for security, both Gold and Merchant Level should be fine. There's a Shrine to Domi on Merchant Level, you know Bin? I think the Guard is gonna be patrolling both pretty well. We might ask after Taxes and stuff on places up on both levels."
"Alemi's Shrine of the Chosen is up on Gold, Belkie," Xenia whispers out of the corner of her mouth.
"And as far as the Construction business goes ... " She changes maps, pulling one big sheet over another and then flattening it down with the palms of her hands. "I know you been looking at that for a long time. I'd give you the money to invest in that. But I don't think I'd like to live in the same as had that sorta business in it. Lots of noise. Construction type guys coming in early in the morning. Nope. I don't think so. But go ahead with your business. You got my money."
"Maybe if it was, like, a bakery or sump'in. Wouldn't mind living above that," Xenia murmurs to herself.
"What do you guys think about having a place all together and stuff? Like before, you know? I mean, sounds like Bin's thinking of getting his own place, and that's got good points and bad points. I don't mind having a place together. It'd be convenient for us to gather together. And having a real private place ain't to important right now, 'cause, well, I figure to be having kinda sorta the wandering foot for a while, if you know what I mean." And Xenia takes a little secret peek up under her lashes in the direction of Wynn.
DM BigTim Thursday December 14th, 2006 11:25:58 AM
From the time you all left the GG til this very second have been 4 hours, getting to be lunch time, and upon feeling your stomachs rumbling, a man steps up to the counter.
We are now closed for lunch. I ask everyone to please leave now. We will reopen in 2 hours time.
He then walks over to the door, opens it, and holds it open til everyone is gone. (No, you can't take maps with you.)
Once the last customer exits he shuts the door, locks it and puts up a closed for lunch sign in the window. And should you choose to do so, by looking into the windows, you see him and the 3 land office employees exit through a door behind the counter, with the door being shut behind them.
Angus Thursday December 14th, 2006 9:39:57 PM
Angus moves outside when the shop closes up for lunch.
"Should we head back to the Ghost and get a bite to eat and discuss things?"
Lang & Sunshine Thursday December 14th, 2006 9:50:28 PM
"Yea, Angus I could grab a bite to eat. Re-group over lunch and make some decisions."
Sunshine and Lang head outside.
Bin Thursday December 14th, 2006 10:14:32 PM
"Well, I am with you all, but there is so much of this city there is to see. How about you all let me buy you lunch somewhere nice around here? Perhaps we can go look at a couple of places we noticed as well. We have two hours to kill until they return."
Syr Thursday December 14th, 2006 10:16:03 PM
After a final glance at the map, Syr leaves amicably as the rest of the group is herded out. "Perfectly understandable, everyone's got to eat." He says over his shoulder.
After they leave he glances back in to see the employees exit. Appearing casual, he wanders over to Xenia and Blekior saying quietly, "Hey Red, do you see what I see?" As he nudges her gently. "Belk, how well do you know those forms? Could you find the name of that sleezeball quickly if we were in there? I mean, we are only asking what the law allows and that's the name on the title. The guy just wants a bribe to reveal it. How else could you buy property from someone if you didn't know the name?"
Whispering softly, "What do you guys think?"
Belkior Thursday December 14th, 2006 10:43:37 PM
The halfling cleric clutches the sheaf of papers and carries them outside with his companions. His belly rumbles as he does so, more so after Angus suggests lunch.
"I suppose that we can find someplace close by to eat."
Belkior follows his companions, allowing them to lead the way to an inn where they can find a meal. Trekking down to the Ghost is an option as well, too. In fact, Belkior will voice that opinion.
When they're sitting down, after saying a quick grace over the meal, Belkior will present his ideas to the others.
"This is getting needlessly complex. Syr and whoever else looked at the maps, can you remember generally what properties were for sale down here on Fence Level? If you can, we can walk by them and see what they look like. Maybe check out Mamma Flaust's, too. We can pick a place we like and go back to see if it's available. Then we finish the paperwork."
"Do the same up on Gold Level, if you like. It doesn't matter to me, one way or the other. I can minister to the sick and injured in either place."
Xenia Friday December 15th, 2006 10:09:52 AM
Xenia gets a sly sorta smile on her face.
"Yeah, I been watchin' 'em, Syr. And I think I got this plan." She looks about herself, and when there are no casual bystanders to observe, she wills the ring on her finger to change her form. Suddenly, in the midst of the group is the Sleazy Guy. Then, just as suddenly, it is Xenia again.
"Hehehe ... And this ring helps you disguise yourself better too. I figure to go in there and tell 'em maybe that my contractor says there's something wrong with the papers and all, and I gotta look 'em over again to get the plot dimensions. Sump'in like that."
"Maybe," she whispers, "maybe we could even reverse the sale. Maybe we could even get a hold of them Bloodstones he used to pay for the property."
"Whadja think? I think Wynn could do an even better job of this than me. I mean, being a guy and all in the first place. And having followed the Pimp Guy for while and all."
"Oh, and what do you guys think of getting a place together? I mean, that against getting separate places for each of us?"
Bin Friday December 15th, 2006 10:40:16 AM
Bin looks a bit confused with Xenia's fascination with the sleazy guy with the plot. He ask's her, "Just out of curiosity, why are you concerned about this guy? Is it because he bought the property that once belonged to someone else? Wouldn't that property still belong to that lady you spoke of after her place was destroyed? Maybe she or someone she willed that place to, sold it to the land office? I must be honest with you, I really don't know how the machinations of this government operates."
"As for a house together, I am all for us going in on a house together, but I also want to live in an upper class area, since I can afford it."
Xenia (2nd Illegal Post) Friday December 15th, 2006 11:59:45 AM
"Well, the original orphanage use to be on that spot, Bin," Xenia replies as the group steers along the streets in search of a place for lunch. "Syr grew up there, didn'cha, Syr? A lot of us would visit the kids. Angus used to bring 'em candy and stuff. And I had a special friend who was living there too."
"We came back from the Crying Woods one day to find the place all burning up. Group called the Anvil Hearts, who didn't get along with us, set it to fire." Xenia's copper brows pull into a quiet frown above her dark face. "Everyone was down here battling the blaze. Mama Flaust, who was like a mother to, like, you know, everyone, died in the fire."
"Afterwards, they didn't build up the orphanage again on that spot. Instead, they put up kinda a memorial. A nice green spot. And they buried Mama Flaust there."
"So, you see, Bin," the dark girl explains, "it's not so much this guy that I'm interested in. I mean, not really. But, it's like, when you got something that means a lot to you, you wanna protect it. You wanna make sure that it's, well, that it's treated right. I mean, I understand that it's hard to keep something the same way you want it forever. 'Specially if it doesn't mean the same to other people as it does to you. But if something is special enough, you at least gotta try."
"I mean, we gotta see that Mama Flaust and the her place is in the right hands. Or we gotta try and stop it."
Wynn d20+17=26 Sunday December 17th, 2006 9:14:05 AM
Wynn thinks back to the man he followed down the street and invokes the powers of his magic hat. A brief shimmer, similar to the wavering of air as it rises from the hot cobblestones, and his disguise is complete. "Clerk! I'd like to review that paperwork. My contractor says it's knotted up!"
"How's that? convincing?" he asks the gathered shields.
Bin Sunday December 17th, 2006 2:38:12 PM
As Bin listens to Xenias' story, he becomes more and more involved. He is seen thumbing the head of his light hammer that hangs at his hip. His eyes narrow and his jaw clinches, then releases, over and over again. When she is finished he asks through clinched teeth, "Where are these sons of female dogs called the Anvil Hearts? Have they been brought to justice? I think we need to call them outside the city walls and deal with them like the scum they are. You do have evidence that they killed this woman? How many children died in the fire?" He twists his neck around with loud, audible pops as his neck self adjusts itself from the muscle tension. "We need to find out how the land wound up on the market. Did she owe taxes or rent?" Bin realizes he has asked more questions then someone would be able to answer in a short amount of time and visibly relaxes as he says, "Well, whatever you guys want to do, to get these donkey's waste holes, I'm with you."

The red-headed rogue grins a really big grin at Wynn's impersonation of the Sleazy guy. That's her guy. He's the best.
"Last I saw, Bin," the rogue replies, "the last three of them were headed back to the Gaol. On Barracks level. You see, after the fire we kinda sorta had a come to meeting, if you know what I mean. They called this meeting down on Trash Level, and when we showed up, they ambushed us with a squad of mercenaries they'd hired."
"It was touch and go, but we pretty much put the mash on them. Then the Guard shows up and hauls both us and them into Gaol. Put us in cells across from each other too. But, in, like, the end, they had the sense to let us out and keep them in."
"Thought that was the last we were gonna see of them. But when the Fey King got out and the Crying Woods started to attacking, pullin' on the city, I guess they escaped. Came down this way with a group called themselves the Children of Chaos. We all fought this wacky druid, and in the end, they got taken back up to Gaol by one of the Gold Level nobles. Can't remember his name right off, but he was a big guy."
"Dunno where they are right now, but there were only the three of them left, Jonas, the leader, that little blond piece named Specialty Johnson, and this half-orc."
"I'm kinda wondering why the plot is on the market though too, Bin. Best I could figure it was owned by a noble Lady name of Firiona. She's the one who had the monument commissioned and turned it into a green space. Can't imagine why she'd put it up for sale. 'Less she's dead or sum'pin."

Angus Monday December 18th, 2006 4:07:25 PM
Angus is looking distracted and bored with the proceedings and looks over to Syr and Xenia "Is there any way to speed this up. I never thougth it would be so difficult?"
Angus pulls out a bottle of red wine from his haversack. "Anyone want to help me kill some time?"
Lang & Sunshine Monday December 18th, 2006 11:33:14 PM
"I'll have a swig of that Angus. Let's find a comfortable spot and relax."
Belkior Monday December 18th, 2006 11:43:04 PM
The halfling cleric has been off in another world, thinking about making his vestment. Still, his companions' conversation drags Belkior back to the Float.
"I'm just going to keep working on these papers. When I get them done, does anyone have objections to me working on something at the Temple? I'm working on a stole to show my devotion to Alemi."
Bin Tuesday December 19th, 2006 9:35:40 AM
Bin looks to the others, "I don't care much what we do for the next two hours until the land office reopens. I am still interested in lunch." Bin looks around to see what is near, "lets try that", he points to what restaurant he sees.
(OOC:I suppose we could say that we just kill two hours of time, so the DM can reopen the shop, or introduce a NPC during that time.)
The Passing of Lunch (Temp DM/Al) Tuesday December 19th, 2006 10:47:54 AM
The group finds a quiet unassuming little bistro just of Silver Street. There's a view from there of King's Way. It's quiet, charming, and the items on the menu are outrageously priced.
Fortunately, the management tolerates small orders that allow the group to simply occupy the space as time goes by. There are, however, a few frowns as Angus brings out his own wine.
Time passes and the place clears out, leaving only the group sitting at their table. Lunch time is clearly over and the land office is most likely open for business again.
[ I think you all got Jerry's email. Tim is out of power. Much of the surrounding Seattle area is right now. I'll step in a bit here and try to keep things going. --Al ]
Bin Tuesday December 19th, 2006 12:14:08 PM
Bin is not intimidated by the prices and asks everyone to order what they desire. "I'll have the basted rack of lamb in merlot sauce with the vegetables and a cold beer please."
While they eat, he fills out what paper work they need for the land office. When all is done eating he looks at the bill to insure it is the proper amount, then pays it along with a 20% tip.
(ooc: Sorry for the double posting, but I wanted to role play it out a little. Let me know what the total price is with tip for the deduction from character sheet please. I will not make this a habit.)
Angus Tuesday December 19th, 2006 1:20:27 PM
Angus sees the frowns at using his own wine, but he attempts to mollify the staff "Can we have a wine tasting of your wares. I need a few bottles for the road and want to sample your wine celler. It is best to start with the whites."
As the waiter leaves, Angus calls to his back. "Some bread would also be nice to cleans the pallet."
Angus pours more wine to anyone of his friends that wants some, of his own current stock.
Syr Tuesday December 19th, 2006 9:41:53 PM
Putting a hand on Xenia's arm lightly, "Easy there Red, I know precious gems like that make your eyes shine but let's stop short of outright theft? I just want to find out who is buying it and for what reason."
Smiling at Belkior buried in the stack of papers, "Need some help there Belk? I'm all for buying the warehouse next to the dock AND getting a place together somewhere that everyone feels comfortable. Everyone here heard how vocal I was with my opinion on all of us staying together when Xenia had a separate apartment." A stray thought crosses his mind and his brow wrinkles briefly.
Much later he gets Wynn in relative seclusion, "So big guy, have you actually thought this through? I mean, if we are living together... all under the same roof... Do you and Miss X have separate rooms, adjacent rooms, or the same room? You don't have to answer me but you may want to consider the decision... You know she will." He grins at the bard's predicament before slapping him on the shoulder.
Staying near Wynn, he points with his chin to Bin before leaning over to whisper to Wynn once again, "Whatcha think of the new guy? Seems a bit high maintenance to me. I mean he's ordering the best off the menu then wants to live with the 'upper class'. How much do we really know? He proved good in a pinch however think he'll fit in?"
Xenia Tuesday December 19th, 2006 9:59:19 PM
The rogue takes a big slab of the rakish lamb with some bread slathered with creamy white butter. That, and some of the cute little carrots. Not that she can eat all that stuff, but when you can get it, you might as well take it.
After that, she begins picking out a plate for Wynn.
"Um, yeah. Sure. Alright, Syr," the rogue replies around a mouthful of lamb. Syr's talking gets her thinking about the Bell Tower apartment that she shared with Beeble and Oben. That seems like so long ago. The tower didn't survive the Plant Attack, and it's not without a little bit of worry that the girl rogue wonders if her old roommates survived. So many people got scattered all over the place. Maybe they got out. Escaped to Plateau City. But how would you ever find that kinda think out?
"Um. So. Whatchu guys think? You wanna be living up on Gold Level? There's advantages to living up here. The Teleport Pad for Plateau City is up here." Xenia stares out the window at the flowers and stuff out on King's Way. Her mind is lost in thought.
Wynn Tuesday December 19th, 2006 10:36:24 PM
Wynn sits back in one of the chairs near the window and looks outside at the daily ebb and flow of life in this part of the city. "Seems a nice enough area" he directs his comments to no one in particular, "but do you think they'll tolerate the comings and goings of adventurers? If we hang out our shingle here, will those in trouble seek us out?"
The bard picks at the lamb that Xenia has set in front of him. "I'm not sure the Gold Level is for us. I mean, where is the nearest tavern that we can afford on a regular basis? There's a number of decent places on the Merchant level" he offers.
Wynn reflects back on his private chat with Syr and decides that the elf is correct. "Wherever we choose, I'd like access to either a balcony or a garden, preferably from the room Xenia and I share." The bard slides one hand into Xenia's and gives her a gentle squeeze.
Mid-Afternoon (Temp DM/Al) Wednesday December 20th, 2006 11:19:10 AM
The bill comes at last, the conclusion of a meal too sumptuous to bear the simple label of Lunch. The total comes to eight gold pieces for the food and drink alone! And that's before the tip. The service has been impeccable, swift, polite and unintrusive.
Outside the windows nobles and bureaucrats pass too and fro, mid-afternoon traffic for any road on Gold Level. The time is nearing two o'clock.
Bin Wednesday December 20th, 2006 12:52:11 PM
The small human smiles as his belly rumbles in eagerness to digest the delicious meal. He finishes his cold beer and leaves ten gold pieces for the meal and tip. "Ah, now I know I need to go adventuring again, just so I can save up to eat here once a week. Absolutly delicious!" Sliding his chair away from the table he laughs with the party, "Now lets go buy a house so I can take a nap." With the others he heads to the Land office. Hopefully , their paperwork is complete.
Xenia Wednesday December 20th, 2006 9:23:02 PM
"Yeah, alright. That sounds good." Xenia rises from the table. She stands demure next to Wynn, waiting for the group to move out for the Land Office again.
Wynn Wednesday December 20th, 2006 9:27:06 PM
Wynn pushes himself back from the table and leades Xenia outside. "You want to share a room, right?" he asks her.
When Bin suggests they return to the land registry he asks the group "Should Xenia or I impersonate the shifty fellow who purchased the land by the old orphanage, or do you want to just let it go?"
Xenia Wednesday December 20th, 2006 9:39:59 PM
Xenia leans into Wynn and lifts up on her toes, reaching up to his ear. "More 'n anything," she whispers. There's a smile on her face and a shine to her her green eyes.
Lang & Sunshine Wednesday December 20th, 2006 9:47:03 PM
Lang stands up and stretches after the meal. The food was tasty and hit the spot.
"Are we ready to head back to the land office? Let's try to find one with a nice backyard or garden."
Belkior Wednesday December 20th, 2006 10:07:20 PM
The halfling cleric looks up from his paperwork. Belkior rubs his blurry eyes and peers at the others.
"Yes, let's walk about for a bit. I could use the break."
Syr Thursday December 21st, 2006 6:16:31 AM
Syr nods enthusiastically, "I'm all for the deception. I'd like to discover more about the guy and his plans for the site. For now though, I'd like to get everything started on the warehouse business. All done with the paperwork Belkior? The house still doesn't seem to be quite decided."
Angus Thursday December 21st, 2006 9:31:35 AM
Angus nods to Bin "Thanks for picking up the tab."
Angus listens to the others as the discuss the home as he is not too concerned about the accomodations. "Syr did you see a copy of the deed? I just want to make sure this character is on the up and up."
Return to the Land Office (Temp DM/Al) Thursday December 21st, 2006 11:03:43 AM
The group makes their way back across Gold Level to the Land Office. The doors are open and the same woman who helped them before ( ... or didn't help, depending on who you talk to ... ) is shuffling through papers behind the counter.
Belkior, diligent as always and ever, has the paperwork nearly complete. All that remains is to select the property or properties to which to apply for.
Bin Thursday December 21st, 2006 11:37:58 AM
Smiling to the group, "I think I could live on the Merchant level if others are up for it as well, but I don't want to live any lower then that. As for people coming to us looking for our help, isn't this a free city where people can come and go as they desire? I haven't seen any guards between levels keeping people in or out." He looks at the map with the others, "Here we go, two lots side by side on the merchant level, lets see what they both cost?"
Xenia Thursday December 21st, 2006 3:52:44 PM
"Hey ... " Xenia is at the map desk again. The discovery of some small item on the Map of Merchant Level draws the exclamation from her lips. ... there's a ...
"Yeah. Merchant Level. That might be good. Hmmm. Say, I wonder why they call this area Hell's Corner?"
"Which lots you looking at, Bin," the rogue asks. All the while, though, her sharp eyes take in the counter, spying out just what the Filing Girl is up. Moreover Xenia watches Filing Girl to figure out just how much attention she's paying.
Lang & Sunshine Thursday December 21st, 2006 9:01:10 PM
Lang gets a little glassy eyed when they start discussing which property to by. He stands towards the back in case they need to ask him any questions.
Syr Friday December 22nd, 2006 12:19:29 AM
Shaking his head at Angus, "Nah, I didn't get a glimpse of it. I wish I had though. He's up to something..."
Anyway, I still want that warehouse on the docks. If times are slow, we can probably still rent it. As for the house, merchant level it is. Now to just find the perfect spot. I'll let ya'll figure that out. Just try to get something so that we have enough space to not share rooms. Now that Angus was a bad roomie of course..." His voice trails off as he studies the map.
Angus Friday December 22nd, 2006 8:09:40 AM
Angus muses to himself "Is'nt the thieves guild housed on the merchant level. It is a good Idea, the Merchant level that is, but how do they keep all the rouges in check?"
Angus smiles at Syr "Lets get all of our paper worked check out by a city official before we sign anything. Our own rooms, that way you will not have to tip toe around in the morning, worrying about waking me up anymore. Up at dawn is not a habit I could ever adjust to."
Xenia Friday December 22nd, 2006 8:55:00 AM
Xenia straightens her spine, drawing her head high.
"I'll have you know Mister Angus Deminof that it's thieves what gets stuff done when there's needing for speed and discretion that you can't get from your usual negotiating. Business has got it's finessing, and when it's needed we are there."
Bin Friday December 22nd, 2006 10:28:01 AM
Bin looks a bit gloomy when Angus mentions the thieve's guild on merchant level and stops filing the paper work. He raises a finger to say something when Xenia jumps in to state her opinion oh how thieve's are the ones that get things done with speed. Bin laugh's out loud at that statement as he says, "Really? Interesting indeed. Somehow I get the feeling that not all rogues are as helpful as you suggest they are and if our house is violated even once, I will be packing my bags to buy my own place on the Gold level. So unless you have some kind of influence over these so called business expediters to keep that from happening, we may want to revisit the idea of the gold level for us all. As we get more powerful, so will our magic items, and I would like to be able to take my armor off at night without worry it and all my money will be gone when I awaken."
Belkior Friday December 22nd, 2006 10:41:24 AM
The bleary-eyed halfling cleric looks over at Angus, Xenia and Bin as they debate the merits of thieves and rogues.
"I'm thinking that it's the official ones called 'tax collectors' that we'll need to worry most about. Between all of us, we can probably work up something to protect our house."
Merchants of Floating City? (Temp DM/Al) Friday December 22nd, 2006 11:15:48 AM
There seems to be a general, though tenuous consensus to settle on Merchant Level. Syr is going ahead with the plans to set up a company down two levels on Fence.
The group take another number and then wait. #22 with 3 cases before them. They wait and debate. Finally, their number comes up.
The woman behind the counter accepts the papers without a word. She takes the stack for Syr's warehouse first. With each page, the woman runs her finger to significant portions of the page, checking for completeness and correctness. then she licks the edge of her thumb and turns to the next page.
"Good," she says at last. "Everything seems to be in order. Do you have 707 gold pieces to complete the transaction? That's three hundred for the property itself with four hundred and seven in taxes, fees, and the owed back taxes."
The two inch stack of documents in application of the plots for Merchant Level lie upon the counter, as of yet, unexamined.
Bin Friday December 22nd, 2006 11:47:13 AM
Bin pulls off his backpack and sets it on the floor. Opening it's flap he prepares for the transaction. "How many people are going in on the business, so we can divide the price amongst us?"
Lang & Sunshine Saturday December 23rd, 2006 11:33:15 PM
"Count me in. I have a little money left over from our last adventure."
Wynn Sunday December 24th, 2006 9:34:56 AM
"I cannot say I understand this desire to be 'in business'. Syr, does your order of monks condone such artifice?" The bard nevertheless reaches for his purse to contribute to the enterprise.
Xenia Sunday December 24th, 2006 1:47:49 PM
Xenia shimmies out of the straps of her haversack. There's a thump and clatter of buckles and leather as she plunks it down on the countertop.
"You guys can each pay me whatever we decide later," she says as she undoes the fastenings on one particular pouch.
"Seven hundred and seven," she calls out, and the coins come spilling from the opening and onto the counter.
Belkior Sunday December 24th, 2006 2:32:35 PM
The halfling cleric stands at the back of the group as they pay for a lot.
"There. Can I get back to my embrodiery?"
Warehouse, Sold! (Temp DM/Al) Sunday December 24th, 2006 8:35:33 PM
The woman turns her head to the pile of coins without looking up. Simply by moving her finger over the pile, she verifies the count.
"We'll have the deed to the property ready for you in one week."
She passes the temporary writ across the counter. Not once has she looked up. Not once has she made eye contact with anyone.
She pulls the second pile of forms over and begins going over those. "Two lots ... Merchant Level ... " she mutters to herself as she works through the documents.
Angus Tuesday December 26th, 2006 9:16:49 AM
Angus looks over to Xenia "Thanks for fronting the money Xenia. You are a power shopper. Make sure you keep the receipt, just in case we have to return the items."
Lang Tuesday December 26th, 2006 9:18:15 AM
Lang scratches Sunshines ears and reflects "It has been along time since I left the farm and now to actually be a part owner of real estate. That is something."
Xenia Tuesday December 26th, 2006 3:48:02 PM
"Um, yeah. I got this Temporary watzis thing here, Angus." Xenia examines the document for a bit before losing interest. "Anyone else wanna see it?" she asks, watching the Counter Girl as she goes through the stack of papers.
"You know, I think I'd go crazy if I hadda do a job like that every day," Xenia whispers to the others.
Closed For the Day (Temp DM/Al) Tuesday December 26th, 2006 9:54:51 PM
At last the woman looks up. But it's not to the group that she looks. Rather, she her gaze is out the doorway at the dimming light outside. As if on cue a balding bespectacle man at one of the rear desks stands.
"This office will be closing now," he announces. "Closing for the day. If you have business still pending, you'll have to return tomorrow."
The woman isn't even half way done with the stack of forms.
"I'm sorry," she says with little feeling in her voice, "we'll have to finish this up in the morning. The Land Office opens at nine o'clock sharp. In the meantime, if I might make a suggestion, it would be a good idea to go to Merchant Level and take a look at the plots that you're considering purchasing."
With that, she places the forms into a folder and withdraws. The group is shown to the door and it is locked behind them.
Angus Wednesday December 27th, 2006 8:44:53 AM
Angus is a bit annoyed. "Functionaries." With a huff, Angus adds "We will see you after breakfast."
Angus looks at his sleepy eyed crew and comments "Lets get some dinner at the Ghost and then see if we can finish the paper work first thing in the morning."
Lang Wednesday December 27th, 2006 8:46:59 AM
THe big Bugbear is fancinated by the prospect of owning property, but bored by the whole process. "Alright then, dinner it is."
Lang takes point and leads the group through the winding streets and down to the Giggling Ghost.
Lang take note at the damage caused by the plants and how fast the population seems to be recovering.
Xenia Wednesday December 27th, 2006 10:43:29 AM
"I'm gonna stop off and see the properties on the way, down," Xenia announces. "I mean, I ain't been up to Merchant Level much since everything got wrecked, and I wanna see what we're getting before we put down our gold."
Working from memory, the rogue makes her way through the streets of Merchant Level, eying the neighborhoods as she goes.
Wynn Wednesday December 27th, 2006 4:58:24 PM
The bard accompanies Xenia on her inspection of the various properties, offering whatever insight he can along the way.
Syr Wednesday December 27th, 2006 7:51:32 PM
The elf comes out of his semi-sleep to respond to Wynn, "Order of monks? You know, I've heard of monasteries that teach fighting like I do but I've never visited one. Not that I'm against it or anything but it just wasn't something for me."
"Like Xenia said earlier, I grew up on the streets of the Fence level. Everything I learned is self taught. I did have a mentor though, a dwarf. Must be why I miss Bralin every now and then. Anyway, the one thing he pounded into me is 'It doesn't matter how good or bad you are. Just play by the rules and beat the other guy'."
"He's the one that inspired me to consider the business side of things. It's just a different way to keep score in life and I DO like winning."
As the others are leaving he comments to Xenia, "You are certainly the closer. Nice job back there."
Once the group gets back together for the night, "As far as the business side goes, How does everyone feel about an initial investment of 1000 per person to get the business off the ground? After that, if you want to contribute more then we can have each share of the business cost an additional thousand."
Wandering off, "Ya'll take care of the housing arrangements, I trust you. I need to go and check out the state of our property."
After returning to the group later that night, he ponders the business, "Well we can start off by looking for staff. I know the city is getting back together but does anyone have a good place to recruit? Do you think Happy might know some people?
The Property (Temp DM/Al) Thursday December 28th, 2006 10:31:32 AM
The group moves through the streets of Gold Level after leaving the Land Office. From the angle of the Sun, revealed through the Teucri magic in the giant ceiling, the time is not much after Four in the afternoon.
Angus is ready to make an evening of things, with Lang in agreement. Xenia and Wynn propose to stop off at the site of the property on the way down. The wheels in Syr's head are already turning. He proposes some concrete steps toward establishing the business.
Those who make a detour on Merchant Level to take a look at the property exit the Central Pillar and head north up The Straight Way. A right on The Narrow Way and then a quick left into a side alley next to a cryptic establishment known only as The Way Station, brings them within viewing distance of the property they have chosen.
Unlike the group's previous apartments the building here does not front the street. Rather, a ten foot wall of solid masonry, now cracked and broken in several places, encloses the property beyond. A wide gateway stands in the middle of the wall, wide enough to admit a cart. The two halves of the wooden gate lie upon the ground, torn from their hinges. But one of the iron bound gates has a smaller door within the larger so that people may pass through even though the larger gate itself is closed.
If the wall is any indication, the building or buildings within might need some repairs as well. But that shouldn't present too much of a problem. It may even be incentive to remodel and create the perfect home.
=== OOC ===
Feel free to enter and describe it as you'd like. Tim has told me in an earlier email that the description of the residence is up to us.
Angus Thursday December 28th, 2006 3:40:17 PM
Angus heads to the Giggling Ghost and calls back to his friends that are looking at the property. "Just make sure my room can hold a bed for three! See everyone for dinner at the Ghost."
Lang Thursday December 28th, 2006 3:44:34 PM
Lang walks with Angus down to the GG and on the way he finds a piece of a broken timber and uses it as a fetch toy for SUnshine. "Time for some exercie Sunshine."
Lang continually tosses the improvised toy out ahead of himself and Angus. Lang give Sunshin a good rub on the head each time he brings the stick back.
The time to the GG passes quickly. "I am ready to eat. Are you two?" Lang looks at Angus and Sunshine.
Sunshine's tounge is hanging out and the tail is wagging like it is ready to fall off.
Wynn Thursday December 28th, 2006 7:19:23 PM
The bard walks through the opening where the gate used to stand. He examines the gatewall and the hinges and is satisfied that the gate can be rehung with a modicum of effort and repair. "Come on Xenia, let's have a look."
Wynn walks up the small flight of three stairs to the main door and notes that a few of the stones have been damaged, but again, the skills of a stonemason would easily put things right. The large single front door could use a coat of paint and the front window casings as well. The two story building would appear to have two rooms facing the front at ground level, one he presumes to be a common room, the other potentially a sleeping chamber. Upstairs there appears to be at least two more rooms.
A small alleyway leads down the side of the building, separating it from it's neighbour by a mere three feet. The stone path leads to the back of the building where a long garden area with a small stone patio awaits. The garden is heavily overgrown and in need of significant labour. The stone wall that surrounds it has been breached at the far end where it backs on to a small wooded area.
Looking up, the bard counts two more rooms sharing a common balcony above. Below, a single window and a door leads from what Wynn assumes is the cooking area, and a second window indicates the presence of another room as well.
The external shell of the building appears to be a veneer of smooth cut stone. Beiges, browns and greys seem to alternate in a random pattern. The window ledges are at least 6" deep, indicating a solid stone construction. The wooden balcony is held up by angled timbers that appear firmly anchored in the stone walls.
"So...what do you think?" he asks his dark lover.
Xenia d20+7=27 Thursday December 28th, 2006 11:14:44 PM
Xenia walks quietly through the broken gate with Wynn. It's like a datcha sort of place! She stares up at the solid front facade of the two story house.
"It's like a rich guy's place in the woods. It's a chalet." The rogue's gaze is up as they pass between the buildings, up at wide eaves supported by heavy wooden beams. The impression grows in strength as they emerge into the back with the overgrown garden against the backdrop of the woods.
"A balcony! We could lie out and watch the stars." The rogue steps back a few paces. Her hand rises to shade her eyes as she peers up at the peak of the roof. Weeds and wild flowers crunch under her heels as she steps back and back. And then she's running forward, straight toward the wall. Step, step, her foot hits and propells her upward, running up the wall. Her hand reaches into space, reaching to catch that lower edge of one of the wooden timbers that supports the balcony. Her fingers snag the hard sharp edge and her body swings, bringing her other hand around and up. Hand over hand, the rogue moves up the beam ... and then stops. She hangs in mid air, and then drops to the ground, taking up the impact in her legs. Xenia stands and looks up at the balcony. Her chest heaves with the breath of exertion.
"Could be done." She nods her head, and then Xenia flings herself into Wynn's arms. "I love it!" Her lips meet his. "Mmah uv i' ... mmmm." She pulls away and looks up into his eyes. "And it's gonna be all ours."
"Hey, lets go inside."
The Curtain of Night (Temp DM/Al) Friday December 29th, 2006 10:13:03 AM
Happy calls a warm greeting to the Crimson Shields as they troop back in after descending from Gold Level.
Up on Merchant Level those who have gone to inspect the property find it in intriguing. Different in many ways from their old Apartments. It has a greater feel of style and solidity. It is a move up in ever sense of the phrase, and this is only one of two properties.
Not much later, the two halves of the group rejoin over dinner. Outside the warm and friendly lights of the Giggling Ghost, early evening turns to the dark of night. Rented rooms wait above. The dawn of a new day holds both the promise of an end to the bureaucratic nightmare of the Land Office and possibly, just possibly, some answers as to the identity of the mysterious man who purchased the land upon which the old orphanage once stood.
Angus d20+10=24 Friday December 29th, 2006 11:51:41 AM
Angus enjoys the warmth and comfort of the Giggling Ghost as he finds a nice table for the group by the fireplace. Angus relaxs with a glass or three of wine before his spares dinner. Angus takes out his flute and tries a new tune for purchasing a house.

Lang Friday December 29th, 2006 11:58:25 AM
Lang sets up two chairs by the fire and props his feet up on the second one.
Lang gets Xenia and Syr's attention "Can we please finish up the house stuff tomorrow? I want to move in and then move on to something a bit more exciting, like maybe a bit of exploring." Lang seems to yearn a bit for the woods. The time spent in the Dryder woods has the ranger a bit nostalgic.
Once Daphne comes over to take orders, Lang will request "Do you have any bone for my dog? If so ones with some meat left on the and marrow in them ar best. I will also have a rib roast for myself, very rare please." Lang seems to be acquiring the culinary tastes of an actual Bugbear, not to mention that he will be guarenteed to have more bones for Sunshine.
Sunshine just licks his chops in anticipation.
Bin Friday December 29th, 2006 1:43:56 PM
Bin looks at the property with the others, then settles into the Giggling Ghost with a cold ale and fine company. Bin dosn't seem at all bashful with others and openly flirts with a few ladies he does not know.
(ooc) Sorry all, I thought there was a break until the new yer, or I would have posted in the other parts also.
Wynn d20+12=21 Friday December 29th, 2006 5:23:53 PM
"Aye, Angus. I was reminded of this old tune when I saw the stones out on the plain near Atmahlanto's tomb. I no longer know which of the old bards taught it to me. " Wynn begins to sing [Perform =21]
Over the stone, the old gray stone, Let me ponder here alone, Through all weather we go together Ancient stone, thou good old stone. Of the many friends I've seen, Thou the truest friend has been, Some forget me, some have fled, Some are false, and some are dead, Changing never constant ever, Still I find thee, dear old stone.
Standing here, thou silent stone, What a world thou must have known! Deeds of glory, lost to story, Hast thou witness'd ancient stone. Here beneath the grass, 'tis said, Many warriors bones are laid, Fighting for their land they fell, None but thou can truly tell. Secrets keeping, ever sleeping, Dream'st thou of the past, old stone?
Belkior Friday December 29th, 2006 9:35:01 PM
The halfling cleric turns up at the Ghost some time after his companions.
"I've been working long and hard at some items. What have I missed?"
Apologies. I neglected to get a sub for the week.
Xenia Sunday December 31st, 2006 5:25:36 PM
The song brings to mind a long ago kind of feeling. It's beautiful and it's sorta sad. Xenia sits and sways to the lyrical tune as Wynn sings.
"Not much really," she replies to Belkior. "Unless you were wanting to see the new place we're about to get. Didn't get a chance to go inside, but it looks pretty good from the outside."
"Say, um, whatcha making there, Belkie?" she asks in return.
Syr Sunday December 31st, 2006 5:48:28 PM
Joing the others at the Ghost he appears with a smile on his face and a bounce in his step, "Hey guys, guess what I just got for a Christmas..." With only a slight pause he continues, "This great coupon for a two night stay anywhere in the city. I guess lodgings are on me tonight."
Sitting down at the table he goes on excitedly about the warehouse, "So I went down there to take a look at the place and the location is great. I mean it's on a corner lot right near the wharf. Not only does it have easy access to the shipping but alot of inbound foot traffic will walk right past it."
Shaking his head he sighs once, "The building is another matter. It looks like it fought the plants and they won. The thick wall facing the docks is intact and a brick fireplace is also but that's about the extent of it. I can see why no one snatched this piece up right away."
Taking a moment to wave down the wait staff and orders an ale before continuing, "As I see it, the first order of business tomorrow is finding good help. Secondly, rebuilding the warehouse."
Bin Sunday December 31st, 2006 7:46:27 PM
Taking a sip from his mug Bin chimes in, "I think the first order of business is to finish the paper work at the land office, but I don't think that requires us all. Syr if you want to start on the labor issues, me and a few others can make the residential property purchase." He takes another sip of ale and adds, "say that three times fast." Laughing out loud, he drains his mug and orders another.
New Day and Now To Work (Temp DM/Al) Sunday December 31st, 2006 9:12:51 PM
A nice meal. Nice company. A nice night's sleep.
The light of a new day shines from the ceiling of Fence Level and streams through the windows of the guest rooms at the Giggling Ghost.
Syr's task today, round up a crew. There are normally plenty of hands eager for work hanging around the docks. A more difficult alternative would be to try any common square in Trash Level. But, with construction being what it is in Floating City these days, the best workers usually get picked up pretty early in the morning. Above and beyond that, a really good find would be to find someone to work, but that special person with the intelligence and people skills to organize other workers.
The rest of the group have time to kill. As was said the evening before, the Land Office doesn't open until 9AM. But, then again, it takes a good hour at least to make the journey up through the levels. Time does pass, though, and the group find themselves in the Land Office once again. The woman behind the counter spots the adventurers as they enter, and brings out their file once again. She has not, apparently, even started upon the work, waiting, rather, until they group arrived before she begins. After that, it takes her another hour to review the files. There is plenty of time to snooze, play pleasant tunes, or ... to try and find out who it was that bought the orphanage plot.
Finally, she lifts her head.
"According to the records," she says at long long last, "the owner of the western property has moved out of the city and sold his properties to the City. The eastern property is owned by a merchant in Plateau City. Rather than invest more money in repairs, he's sent a letter of proxy authorizing us to sell on his behalf. The eastern property is priced at 443 gold pieces, and the western property at 389 gold for a total of 832 gold pieces for the two."

Syr, you would do well to at least make a Diplomacy check to increase the raise the Attitude of the people you are looking to hire. A Gather Information check might get you help sifting the good workers from the bad.
The rest of you may pursue whatever course you feel best. Skill checks and such are up to you, but unless their application is dead obvious, please describe to me how you intend them used.
Bin d20+9=25 Monday January 1st, 2007 3:29:54 AM
Bin opens the flap to his Haversack and pays the lady in gold pieces as she requested. With the papers signed, he sets them in his sack, seals it up, and throws it over his shoulder. "Thank you for your prompt and straightforward service. It is appreciated." Then with a smile he leans over the desk as much as his small frame allows. Using Diplomacy he politely asks, "I think my friends and I went about a matter yesterday in a way that seems suspicious, and that really was not our intention. The property that we were asking about yesterday belongs to someone else, and they are none of our business, I understand, but it once belonged to a beloved friend of my friends and all we really would like to know is how it wound up on the market? Could you at least inform us how it came to be for sale please?" His eyes pleading for the slightest information.
Diplomacy Check: 25
Wynn Monday January 1st, 2007 9:02:23 PM
The bard reaches beneath his cloak and pulls out a purse containing 1000 gp. He counts out the 832 gp. requested for the two properties and pushes the coins towards the clerk. "I think we will take both of the adjoining properties. When will the deeds be ready for signature? " He turns to the rest of the group and says "We can settle up later if that's alright."
[OOC if it's OK with the group and the DM we can each subtract our share from our character sheets - 119 gp ea]
Xenia d20+27=33 Monday January 1st, 2007 10:05:33 PM
When you have dark black skin and flaming red hair it's hard to be inconspicuous. And yet, with the magic of her ring, Xenia makes the attempt. Remain at the back of the group. Always keep someone between yourself and the counter. But most importantly, don't act like that's what you're trying to do.
Casual. Natural.
Xenia watches, and she listens.
Angus Tuesday January 2nd, 2007 8:23:44 AM
Angus get up at an unreasonably early hour, dawn, and gets himself ready for the day. Angus has a ligh breakfast with his shield mates and walks up to the higher level for a day of haggling and paperwork.
Belkior Tuesday January 2nd, 2007 8:45:54 AM
The halfling cleric listens to his companions with half an ear. While he is looking forward to sharing a place with them, all of this work is taking time away from his work enchanting a vestment. Still, Belkior will provide his share of the money when someone comes around to collect it.
Revelations of the Day (Temp DM/Al)
Tuesday January 2nd, 2007 11:18:10 AM
Syrdeth Redbow wakes early and heads for the docks. The streets are largely quiet in the faint light just before dawn. A contingent of the Guard raise their hands in greeting as they pass on their patrol. When Syr arrives, the first rays of light can be seen peeking over the horizon through the great gate leading out onto the docks. A number of figures stand about both inside and outside the gate. All have an air of waiting.
++++++++++++++++++++
Later, at the Land Office, Bin Berry and Wynn Brightsong lay out the gold. The woman goes through the same procedure she did the other day, counting the coins quickly through some process by which she is able to take in whole sections of coins at a time.
When she raises her head, it is readily apparent that she's been listening to Bin's Diplomatic efforts. Some of the frost has melted from her mien and been replaced by a look that one might describe as down right Friendly.
"I heard your friends talking yesterday and so I don't suppose there's any harm in admitting that the property had been owned by Lady Firiona." At this point, the woman leans forward discreetly and her voice drops to a whisper. "The truth is ... I believe that the sale went through in error."
She leans back and nods her head.
"Yes. I know. It's hard for me to believe too. But after the attack from the Crying Woods everything was in such turmoil. Lady Firiona set up a proxy through a Solicitor to sell off many of her properties and raise money for rebuilding. Somehow the plot upon which the Memorial stands was put up for sale with the two along side it."
"There's really no telling where the error happened. But, suffice to say that if word got out it would prove of considerable embarrassment to this office. Not only that, but from the talk I've heard -in limited circles- a revelation of this type would start a scandal that would tie up our office and slow down construction all over the city."
The woman gets out her Stamp again and draws up another Temporary Writ of Ownership. After another rhythmic bought of Stamping, she hands it to Wynn. "Your final Deed will be ready within one week. You'll be sent notification at that time."
The Deed is done. Well not quite done, but the mire of tedium and bureaucracy has been forded and the properties on Merchant Level await.

I'll repeat what I said in the last post:
Syr/Scott, you would do well to at least make a Diplomacy check to increase the raise the Attitude of the people you are looking to hire. A Gather Information check might get you help sifting the good workers from the bad.
The rest of you may pursue whatever course you feel best. Skill checks and such are up to you, but unless their application is dead obvious, please describe to me how you intend them used.
Belkior/John: Could you post the number of days that you have invested in this? I count at least one full day.
I'm sure you know this already, but you require 13 days of crafting and 520XP for completion. And, looking at things, I don't believe there are any Craft Skill checks required once you have the feat, so we'll just keep a running count of days.
Belkior Tuesday January 2nd, 2007 1:33:54 PM
The halfling cleric continues to work on his new vestment while his companions are out. It's a slow process, but surely worth the time and effort once it is finished. Belkior has never been shy about declaring his devotion to Alemi but this new garment will leave no doubt about his allegiance.
OOC The 6500 gp for materials was spent at the Catacombs some time ago. I can forward the confirmation if needed.
Belkior is making a Setanos' Vestment so there is no XP cost due to it's being Wold specific (per Catacombs).
I had e-mailed BigTim during the changeover asking about downtime for making the item. He indicated that there was going to be about 2 weeks in-game downtime between the end of the crossover and his adventure starting. This is changed around because of the DM issues.
Angus d20+10=11 Tuesday January 2nd, 2007 2:29:11 PM
Angus is hanging out in the back of the property sales office looking bored. When the functionary women, and not even that good looking to make the time pass quicker, talkes of the memorial up for sale, Angus is aghast "What! The memorial could be purchased and torn down. This is more than an error it is a catastrophe. How do you propose that the city rectify the situation?!?" Angus demands with his hands on her desk.
Angus takes a few deep breaths "I apologize for my reaction. It is just that friends died there. Please answer my question to the best of your abilities or tell me who to discuss this travisty with."

Bin d20+4=23 Tuesday January 2nd, 2007 6:18:35 PM
The protector of Domi looks upset with Angus's outburst and thinks to himself {{Don't ruin what little ground we have gained with this person, I can barely believe she told us this much}}. He looks back behind the woman to see if her boss has been attracted to the commotion and prepares to glaze it over with a little kindness. However, from what he has seen here, yelling might not be an uncommon part of their day. "As I said before, my friends were very close with this lady and a travesty has been committed." Bin intends to Gather Information on this matter. He slides 10 gold pieces he keeps tucked away in a pouch toward the woman and with a smile asks, "What are our options to prevent a scandal from occurring yet finding justice with this issue?"
Gather Information: 23
Wynn d20+11=23 Tuesday January 2nd, 2007 6:59:26 PM
Wynn carries no such attachment to the former orphanage, but is very aware of just how important it was to Syr, Angus and the others. He had just arrived in Floating City when the Anvil Hearts burned down the orphanage and killed Mama Faust. The days that followed saw the group's leader descend into darkness and may have led to his eventual departure.
"Easy Angus, I'm sure the land registry is working on a solution as we speak. Aren't you?" he directs the last part to the clerk. [Diplomacy=23]
Xenia d20+27=46 Tuesday January 2nd, 2007 10:41:16 PM
!!!! What in the fram framming ... ???!!! grrrrr ... A MISTAKE! more grrrr ....
From the back of the group Xenia glares at Counter Girl like it's all her fault. Still, the words go no further than her thoughts. She sticks to the back of things just in case they need to do some sneaky sort of stuff.
Syr d20+5=20 d20+18=35 Tuesday January 2nd, 2007 10:57:48 PM
Syr looks over their property or what was left of it and shakes his head. With a sigh and a shrug he turns around. Noticing the men loitering, he wanders over and asks the nearest, "So what's the occasion? Are you guys here every day?" (Gather Info 20)
If the group is occupied, he questions a few (Diplomacy 35), "Ya'll know where I can find some able bodies for construction work?"
If the group is looking for work, Syr turns on the charm and proceeds to greet each of them personally with a handshake and a bright smile. (Diplomacy 35) "I'm looking for some honest hard working folk to help build this city. Any of you fit the description?" Feeling totally comfortable with the situation, he stands in the center of the group casually assessing each of them.
Work and Not Work (Temp DM/Al) Wednesday January 3rd, 2007 12:52:05 PM
"Here every day! Hawhawhaw ... " A burly half-orc slaps his thigh. "You wantin' work you come here every day too, Elfie. But you wait in line, you. Yeah?"
Some of the faces around grin. A murmured amusement ripples through the crowd of largely dirty and unkempt people.
Some, however, look at Syr with different more observant eyes. A human male of middling height steps from the crowd. Though his clothes are old and worn and his hands rough with grizzled calluses, his face is clean, his bearing is staunch, and his eye is clear.
"Don't you mind Stom none, Sirrah Elf. He ain't much for brain work, but he does a good day's wage. I can see you're not the day labor type. I'm Wef Jerkin, if you don't mind, Sirrah. And if you'll have me on, I can gives you a hand with your hiring needs."
Syr quickly finds that the problem here is not one of finding people who will work. Almost everyone here is looking for day labor both in construction, on the docks and off the boats that will soon be putting out. Rather, the problem is sorting through the large crowd of faces that has suddenly materialized around him and picking one from the next.
Fortunately, Wef is familiar with nearly everyone in the crowd. He helps to steer Syr toward the ones who will suit the needs of the day. Syr, for his part, seems particularly well-liked. A few other men and one woman arrive to hire day laborers, but still a large portion of the crowd remains around Syr hoping to be chosen.
After taking in much of the talk around him, Syr finds that many of the people, both men and women, are willing to work for as little as two or three silver pieces a day. But that's hardly enough to live on, and many wish for more.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The woman behind the Land Office counter turns red as a beet. Her eyed drop back to the counter and her lips tighten, thin and white.
"Rules are in place for a reason." She speaks the words to herself as though they were a mantra.
She takes a deep breath and regains some of her composure just as Wynn completes his question. With one hand she pushes the Temporary Writ of Ownership across the counter. With the other, she pushes the ten gold coins back in the direction of Bin Berry.
"I'm sorry. I can't help you anymore," she says. Her face is hard as she speaks those words. There's likely not much more to be gained through diplomacy here. And the new properties await.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Back at the Giggling Ghost, Belkior continues his work on the Magic Vestment. It's quite comfortable here. No need, even, to stop work to prepare meals. Then again, the halfling cleric begins to get a sense that the entire Wold is subsumed by this work. The times he does emerge from the room, his brain is fogged and the colors of the Wold seem dim and muted.
It begins to dawn upon the Cleric of Alemi that such all consuming work may not promote the healthiest state of mind.

Syr, go ahead and choose a crew of men. Decide how much you wish to pay them on a daily basis. And give us an idea of what you'd like to accomplish today.
Angus Wednesday January 3rd, 2007 1:02:48 PM
Angus throws up his hands "Functionaries! I can see why they are surly. I would be if I had to sit behind a desk all day." Angus leaves the office.
Angus quickly feels bad about his attitude and unkind words to the women and he goes and finds a street vendor and buys a bunch of flowers and has the delivered to the women.
The note reads " To the women who did her job kindly and with a nobel heart. Thank you for your efforts. From the grumpy thin man that wants to apologize. Angus"
Angus will pay 2 silver for the flowers and for the delivery, before heading back to the Giggling Ghost
Bin Wednesday January 3rd, 2007 7:24:37 PM
Bin smiles at the lady, "Thank you for all your efforts, they have not gone unappreciated." Bin seems to have forgotten the pouch as he leaves.
Outside, Bin speaks with the group, "The day's not over yet. I say we go to the Open Air level and visit the Overlord or at least let his steward know of this situation. Like the lady said, there may be some ripples stirred with news of an illegal transaction having taken place. As orderly as this city seems, they would want to know. If we do it now, the memorial may still be standing before it's torn down for some sleaze balls girls. What say you all?"
Syr d20+14=18 Wednesday January 3rd, 2007 8:13:31 PM
The elf uses his small body to escape the sudden press of people and vaults up onto a broken wall. A voice booms from his lithe frame, "LISTEN UP! I'm looking for 10 people that aren't afraid of a litle hard work! I need skilled cronstruction workers and a few craftsmen." Looking over the assembled mob for a moment, "Wood and Stonework obviously. For the moment, I'm willing to hire 10 folk that are qualified. This isn't a short term project but a long term business!" Pausing once more to assess the crowd he finishes, "Starting pay is 2 silver pieces a day. IF you are interested line up behind Wef!"
Putting a hand on Wef's shoulder, he speaks quietly, "I'm not promising anything yet except a job for the day BUT for an extra 5 pieces, I want you to pick the best of the lot from what you know. Get me 9 more."
After chosing the appropriate 10 people, he leads them over to the warehouse lot. In a lower but more subdued voice he continues, "Please sit down, I've got a few more words of wisdom just for ya'll." Sitting down on a broken door he addresses the workcrew, "Let me tell you a bit more of the facts. Myself and my partners are collectively known as 'The Crimson Shields of Hope' for those that have been in the city a while you may have heard of us or our ties to Mother Flauset's orphanage. If not, no biggie. We have seven members currently, Angus, Belkior, Bin, Lang, Wynn, Xenia and obviously me."
Smiling now and talking with his hands, "It's times like these when you know you can count on each other. Anyway, My partners and I want to help the city recover AND make a profit doing so. Nothing extravagant mind you because that would be taking advantage of people. Just something to make our investment grow. The better we do, the better we take care of those that take care of us. That said, I want no cheats or slackers in this team." Pausing a moment to glare at each of them (Intimidate 18), "Notice that I said TEAM. Ya'll are going to have to learn to work together and get along. It's much easier to put on a roof when all four walls are standing. We will consider this 1st project your audition. Plus, I may ask you to speak with the Shields also. I know I may come off across harsh so let me soften it up slightly by doubling the amount that I said I would pay." The elf winks at Wef once with a grin.
Gesturing with an open hand, "See this lot? We've got big plans for it. We need it cleared. If anything can be salvaged, set it off to the side. Times being what they are, every little piece helps."
Xenia Wednesday January 3rd, 2007 8:21:50 PM
The dark rogue watches aghast as the guys just walk off! She follows the others out of the Land Office and throws up her arms.
"You don't wanna find nothing else out first? You're just gonna walk up and start stirrin' stuff up? Well you can forget me."
"You say there was a contractor guy at the site, right, Wynn? Well, I'm gonna go down and see what I can find out from them. And after that, I'm gonna go home and start putting together our new place."
Xenia stalks off toward the Down Ramp of the Central Pillar.
Belkior Wednesday January 3rd, 2007 8:54:17 PM
The halfling cleric finishes his work for the day on the vestment. Belkior believes that his companions will over near the former apartment, so he walks over there. The physical exercise is a welcome change from the tedious enchantment. As he walks, the Healer feels his muscles and joints working more efficiently and the kinks leaving his back.
Once he gets to the area of the apartment, he climbs a small pile of rubble to look for his companions. Once he sees them, he moves closer.
Lang & Sunshine Wednesday January 3rd, 2007 10:41:26 PM
Lang is glad to be back at the Giggling Ghost. He is ravenous and looks for a bite to eat for him and Sunshine.
Building and Re-building (Temp DM/Al) Thursday January 4th, 2007 11:19:39 AM
Angus puts a conciliatory gesture into motion. Good thing this is Gold Level. There happens to be a flower vendor on the street. She flags down a small boy and gives him a copper to run the order to the Land Office. How the offering of peace is taken, though, is something the group may never know.
Bin leaves the gold discreetly upon the counter. But as the group leaves it remains untouched. He calls for a visit to the office of the Overlord where they might get action from a place of authority. The only response he gets is from Xenia, and it is not positive.
Belkior leaves the Giggling Ghost for a short break. He wanders down Dagger Point to Rogue's Alley, coming to the site of the old Orphanage, and, across the way, the place where the Apartments of the Crimson Shields had stood. Whereas the area had once been a street running like a canyon between the walls of buildings on both sides, now it is an open plain. Construction has not yet begun in earnest in this area, though much of the rubble seems to have been cleared away.
The Monument placed on the site of the old Orphanage seems largely intact. It was, after all, largely a green space with low lying alcoves for the urns of Mamma Flaust and five of the children who were killed in the fire. A man with a wooden board cradled in one arm walks the adjacent site with a leaded writing scribe in one hand. On the same site are stacked stone and lumber as though awaiting construction. Two guard loiter about, no doubt protecting the building materials from pilferage. Xenia shows up shortly with a wave. Her eyes fix immediately upon the man taking notes on the adjacent lot.
Angus finds Lang at the Giggling Ghost wolfing down food as only a bugbear can.
Syr gathers a crew of ten. There are Wef, the half-orc Stom, a large broad hipped woman named Tip who Wef says has budding talent as a cabinet maker and seven other men. They gather on the rubble of the warehouse and listen quietly to Syr's speech. They seem particularly pleased at the news of their unexpected rise. Finally, they set to work, sifting through the rubble. (Syr: Please roll for Profession (Contractor). If you have no ranks in that skill, roll a plain Wisdom check.)

Bin, discouraged by Xenia's unwillingness to seek justice says, "Very well, I hope I can bail you out of jail if you get caught doing something you shouldn't have." He politely waves her and any others off that leaves as he crosses the street to the restaurant they ate at the day before. "If I remember correctly, they had a steak that looked great. I will give that a try. He orders it cooked medium with the potatoes and a beer. While at brunch he quietly ponders many things.
{{If we inform the authorities of this situation, the city land office will likely come to a stop. That means any current paper work, including our own will come to a stop if not get canceled. If we let it slide, this son of a female dog, most likely involved, gets the property and is able to tear down the memorial. The latter I couldn't care less about. What I do care about is my new friends feelings for this memorial and the lives lost in the destruction.}} He orders another beer and seems well pleased with his steak. {{I suppose I should seek the advice of those wiser then myself. he pays for the meal with a tip as always. He then travels to the top of the city and visit's the Amphitemple of Courage and speaks with a few of his peers about the dilemma. After all, he is not from here, but this is their city.
"Greetings to you my brothers and sisters. I am in need of advice and perhaps some divinations."

Wynn Thursday January 4th, 2007 5:46:57 PM
The half-elf keeps his thought to himself as Xenia storms off. He knows better than to argue with her about something this close to the heart. Wynn doesn't know this city well enough to know where to pursue answers. "Perhaps the new owner and his builders can be convinced to build the memorial plaques into the new building" he thinks to himself.
In the meantime, Wynn makes his way back to their new housing in the Merchant level to begin assessing the property more closely for repairs and needed furnishings.
Xenia Thursday January 4th, 2007 9:33:26 PM
"Hey, Belkie!" The rogue greets the halfling cleric with a wave. "Whatcha doing here?" Xenia gazes at the three in the midst of the construction stuff. "We got the properties. I think you can move in any time you want."
"You been here long?" she asks kneeling next to Belkior and speaking in low tones? "I think maybe they're the guys that Wynn saw talking to the Sleazy Guy. Wonder what they're up to?"
Lang & Sunshine Thursday January 4th, 2007 9:46:49 PM
Lang keeps his head low, trying not to scare away an of the woman that Angus is able to coax to their table.

Belkior Friday January 5th, 2007 9:10:55 AM
The halfling cleric beams when he sees Xenia approach him. Guessing that Xenia wants to keep their conversation as subtle as possible, Belkior also replies in a quiet voice.
"No, I haevn't been here long. I finished my work for the day on the vestment and decided to walk to stretch my legs. I ended up here since I didn't really know where the new place is on Merchant Level. And, well, I just ended up here."
Belkior nods across at the site.
"I haven't had much time to study what is going on. Obviously, they plan to build something. Maybe that man is an architect or something?"
Activities (Temp DM/Al) d20=13 d20=9 d20=20 Friday January 5th, 2007 11:10:28 AM
After a meal at the bistro off of King's Way, Bin Berry makes his way to the Central Pillar and takes the Underramp up to Open Level. Here above is the true sky and the level is forested, with the crowns of buildings appearing over the tops of trees.
He makes his way to the Amphitemple of Courage, the seat of Domi's power in the Floating City. The sound of arms and martial contest ring out across the temple as various groups train in mock combat. Bin approaches a man and a woman, both human, who are currently engaged in simple conversation. The man is armored in the clerical style. The woman, however, wears no armor at all and her head is shaved bald.
"Greetings Brother," the man responds. "I am Cletus Waverack and this is Lissa the Hand. What advice can we offer that you cannot find in the simple Wisdom of Domi?"

Back at the Giggling Ghost, Angus and Lang work at attracting the companionship of the fair sex. After playing an alluring tune, Angus has the eyes of the entire Ghost upon him. When he invites a table of three ladies to sit with he and his friend, they collect their drinks and follow him readily.
All three come to a stop as they realize that the table to which Angus is leading them contains the Bugbear. But after taking in words of reassurance from Angus and after observing Lang's quiet and noble demeanor, they approach the table and take a seat.
Beeble Winterbrook is tall and thin with long fine brown hair. Her face is a bit long, but she's pretty after a delicate fashion. Oben Longly is a bit broad of hip, but has a healthy sun kissed glow and large doe-like eyes and thick dark hair braided upon her shoulder. Rosymund Cooper is blond with striking pale blue eyes. She's cut her hair short and strides across the floor with the gait of a man. Across her back she carries a lute.
Beeble and Oben say that they've just found new lodgings after have their last place destroyed in the Troubles. They've decided to take a night out with their new roommate Rosymund.

Wynn receives two rings of keys along with the Writs of Temporary Ownership. Standing before the beiges, browns and grays of the building he and Xenia had visited before, he tries each key until the door opens. The afternoon light illuminates a medium sized entry way. On the left, the space segues into a parlor for receiving guests. Clockwise from the parlor, the front entryway extends into a hall that leads toward the back. To the right of this hallway, a set of stairs rises up to the second floor. And, to the right of the entryway, a set of double doors leads into what appears to be a study or office of some kind.
The basic structure of the building appears solid and relatively undamaged. But there are dents and some holes in many of the walls where various pieces of flying furniture have made their mark. Everything and anything that can be thrown to the floor has been. The entryway is relatively clear, but other rooms are stacked thigh deep in downed furniture, broken shelving, and the contents of a opened cupboards.
Clean up might be the first order of any recovery effort.

"Was there anything that I might do for you?" The man with the board addresses Xenia and Belkior as they watch from afar. The two guards stand too and approach to flank the man to show that the has the backing of blades. Regardless of who the man might be or what he might be doing, it appears that Xenia and Belkior have been spotted.
Bin d20+6=25 Friday January 5th, 2007 2:06:25 PM
"Ah, the sounds and smells of home, just like in Plateau City. That is where I am from." He looks around for a recognition of rank and with due respect says, "What I have to discuss is of a confidential nature as well as, of some importance to the city. Perhaps we can go somewhere in private or you can direct me to the High priest on duty at this moment? If both are available, you are welcome to join me." Bin looks around behind himself to see if he was followed.
Spot Check: 25
Angus d20+10=16 Friday January 5th, 2007 6:34:07 PM
Angus is pleased to see that he has not lost his touch with the ladies, even with Lang as a handicap. Angus was going to turn Lang into a human if things had gone badly, but on to better fare. Asks if the ladies have eaten or want any food. "Daphne, when you get a chance dear, we have need of the kitchens services."
Angus will order whatever the ladies desire and then some more wine.
Angus will give Lang every opportunity to converse and will even prompt him. "Ladies this Bugbear before you was once a man, but in his efforts to save this fine city he was struck by the plant king and became a Bugbear. Is that how the story goes Lang? You tell it so well, and I love hearing of your heroics, please regale again."
Angus will sit back and prepare to hear Lang's tale.
Diplomancy 16 focused on the three lovlies and attempting to get them interested in Lang's storytelling.
Xenia d20+7=16 Sunday January 7th, 2007 9:30:07 AM Uh-oh ... Take it slow. Easy. We're not doing nothing wrong.
"Hi!" Xenia gives a little hand wave. "My name's Xenia. We're neighbors. Well, kinda sorta neighbors. We used to live in the place across the way there." The rogue turns a finger to the pile of rubble across the street. Longing, regret, nostalgia each in the space of a heartbeat, walk through her eyes.
"So, um, we were kinda sorta wondering what you were building here. I mean, yeah, it's nosey, sure. But can't help but be curious of who's moving in and all, you know?" (Diplomacy 16 to imporove his attitude.)
Soon to be DM George Nemeth Sunday January 7th, 2007 2:20:22 PM
Hi guys, Just popping in to let you know that I will be retaking the game in around a week maybe less. I will be co-DMing with Drew Gerken. I will be handling the day to day posting while Drew will be your DM for combat for the first module and then we will switch. Hopefully this will add some stability to your game which has been lacking recently. To get refamiliar with your characters, I will need character sheets once again. Please email them both to me and Drew. My email address is Jasjen577@aol.com. Drew's is laiced.nerd@gmail.com.
I am planning to give you some downtime which I want to cover in a one or two posts. Figure about a month in game time. A chance to add to spellbooks, make magic items, do some study or a long term project. Add those benefits to your character sheets but let me know what they were in the email when you send the sheets. I reserve the right to veto.
Oh and everyone needs to root for the Giants tonight. If they lose the game, the module I am currently writing might just get nasty. See you soon.
Syr d20+9=27 Sunday January 7th, 2007 7:12:03 PM
Seeing the light waning, Syr dismisses the work crew, "Thanks and I'll see you here tomorrow for more. Let's see what we can do about securing some building supplies and tomorrow start construction."
Frowning slightly, the elf looks down at the docks. "I guess a day's work is not done." He leaves the crew and wanders down to the boats. Slowly wandering around and listening to the general talk, he tries to determine if any particular captains are bringing in building supplies. (Gather Info 24, not 27)
After that, he meets the rest of the group back at the ghost where he fills them in on today's activities.
(OOC: George with all due respect for you coming back... after last's night's Cowboys' game, I just don't have the energy for anything else.)
Angus Monday January 8th, 2007 8:23:21 AM
As Lang is a bit tight lipped, when Angus sees Sy return from his daily adventure he call over the elf. "Syr come over and join us for a drink."
Angus waves over the elven friend and introduces the new friends "Syr these lovly ladies are Oben, Beeble and Rosymund."
Angus keeps a watch out for the others as they return and will call each over to his table in turn and introduce the ladies. Angus wants to plan out the next week or so for the group and find out how much work the new realestate venure will be in store for the group. "Xenia and Wynn how does th property look? What was the final thoughts for setting up an orphanage and finding someone to run it for us? How does the memorial look, no for sale signs I trust?"
Questions and Answers (Temp DM/Al) Monday January 8th, 2007 12:59:36 PM
Cletus Waverack and Lissa the Hand exchange a look at the unusually indirect behavior of one of Domi's own. They too look in the direction taken by Bin's eyes as he checks to see if he is being followed. They see nothing out of the ordinary as Bin, himself, sees no one who might be following him.
"There is a room for the storage of training equipment," says Cletus Waverack. "If you wish, we may speak privately there." He leads the way. Lissa the Hand says nothing. On her face, though, is an open expression of curiosity.
The room is dark, but a small stone from Lissa's pouch illuminates stacks of pads, padded armor, blocks, staves and other weapons.
"You may close the door or leave it open. As you wish," Cletus adds. "Now, what advice might we give to information of both confidence and import?"
++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Syr spies Angus and Lang at a table with three young human women. His crew had worked with enthusiasm that day and the site is largely clear of rubble. They had left the site with a cheer that comes from the satisfaction of a good day's work and work well done.
On his trip to the dock he had found that the best prices could be had if one placed a consigned order ahead of time rather than arrive early in the morning to bid for supplies. He found several captains who do nothing but haul loads of wood and stone between the shore and the City. They had told him that prices rise daily as everyone knows that day by day The Floating City is moving further and further away from the shore.
Oben, Beeble and Rosymund appear flushed with excitement. First an enchanted bugbear and now an elf. One meets the most interesting people at the Giggling Ghost. Rosymund asks Syr if he is a human turned into an elf. Beeble and Oben mention a roommate they once had when they still had a place in the bell tower. She was a half-elf.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The man's eyes loose their suspicion and he puts on a Friendly smile.
"Sorry," he apologizes, "there's been a lot of theft of building material these days. Would you like to come and see the plans?" the man ask holding out the board in invitation.
"Here's the ground floor with a large open entryway. Most likely a public space of some kind from the size of it. To one side is an office and to the other side is a parlor space. Down this corridor are eight more private rooms toward the back."
"Stairs next to the office lead up to the second floor which looks to be living quarters. The counters commissioned for this room make me say that this will be a large kitchen. This area may be a communal sleeping area with only a few smaller private rooms."
"To tell you the truth," he admits, "I'm not exactly sure what it will be used for. But it's a fairly large structure, covering all three of these plots. Rather a shame about the center plot. I understand it was once the site of an orphanage and it was converted into a small park when it was burnt down in an arson fire. I imagine you were probably here when that happened," he says.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Despite a half day of work, the new house is still not ready for habitation in Wynn Brightsong's eyes. At least, staying at the new place in the condition it is in would be like camping out in the middle of the rubble. Maybe tomorrow, with the help of the others, the place could be made ready to move in.
=== OOC ===
I'm going to try and bring all of these threads together again, so it might be best to put all questions and such into one post. After that, DM's George and Drew will take over.
Angus Monday January 8th, 2007 4:08:54 PM
Angus is pleased to see Syr join the table. "So Syr, how long to get your enterprise up and running. We need to get everyone to concentrate on the Crimson Shields in the next few weeks. I do not want to lose the nice cohesion we have developed recently. We need to finish up of venures, that is yours, Belkior's vestments and the new home shortly so we are all on the same page."
Angus will turn to the ladies and smile broadly "Why we know a half elf also. A perky red head. You should invite your old room mate over when we have our house warming party in a week or two. WHat is your old roomies name? I was wondering if we have run across her before. The FLoating City is only so large. I hope she did not run afoul of the plants when they attacked." ANgus will sit back and sip his wine, it is an excellent vintage.
Wynn Monday January 8th, 2007 5:11:21 PM
The bard returns to the Giggling Ghost after spending the bulk of his day clearing out rubble and broken furniture from their new home. He spots Angus and Lang but does not approach given their interest in teh ladies. he does pull Syr aside and provides an update on teh status of the house. "If you can spare two men, preferably with some carpentry and masonry skills we can be up and running in a good solid day. I have located a used furniture shop and arranged for some basic furniture to be delivered late tomorrow. Some beds, a table and chairs, two sofas, and three or four padded chairs for the common room. I also arranged to pick up some kitchen supplies. Not much more than some plates, cups and saucers and some flatware. I hope nobody minds if they don't match."
Bin Monday January 8th, 2007 5:26:54 PM
Bin thanks them both for the invitation for privacy and follows them into the storage area. He is impressed with the order of things then goes into a story of how he came to meet his new friends. "So these people are from here, so I thought I would see what it's like here, never having been here before now."
Bin goes into his dilemma with the plot and the land office, reminding them of the plant creature and how the Anvil Hearts Gang burned down the orphanage, killing the woman and children. "This monument is sure to be torn down soon and it seems my friends are very, very protective of it. I am afraid at least one of them may go as far as breaking laws, which I really don't want to be involved in, at least when human life is not at stake in the situation." Bin also mentions the greasy man that was followed and his ability to "Lose" Xenia, although he does not mention any names, for the sake of confidentiality. "I must admit, that's why I have been so cautious."
"The major problem is, we are also purchasing property here. If one of us reports the illegal acquisition of mama Faust's old property, and subsequent memorial, I am concerned that we may be fingered as a scapegoat and we will lose our property's, or worse. I mean, it must be a high power in the city that would be able to do this illegal action."
"So I suppose what I need advice on, would be, how can I quickly notify the high officials on this matter, without any of our group paying the penalty. Perhaps there is someone I can go to that will actually make the claim for us, so that we are not involved and the matter can be handled much quicker?"
OOC:Welcome George and Drew. Looking forward to running through the game with you. Just as a heads up, I'm fairly new to the system, so I may need assistance or corrections from time to time.
I did cheer for the giants, only because the Steelers are out of it. It was really good and close game, I'm sorry for your loss. I would love to see Eli beat up on his older brother.
As for the properties, I didn't really see if anyone that did not want to go in on them, so I will just divide the price by seven for each.
Al, you do great work and are an excellent DM. Thanks for the substitution.
Xenia Monday January 8th, 2007 10:01:31 PM
"Um, yeah," Xenia replies. "We all kinda knew Mama Flaust and the kids at the orphanage. It's gonna be real sad to see the place get built on. Mama Flaust is buried there, you know."
There's a moment's silence, and then Xenia glances again at the plans.
"So, um, I'm taking it that you don't really know what this is supposed to be when it's done, huh?" asks the Architect Guy. "Weerd-oh, huh? I mean, who builds a place without telling anyone what it's gonna be anyway? Looks like someone's gonna live here at least."
She looks again at the grassy plot.
"You know, I sure wish I knew who it was bought these plots. I mean, so I could talk to him. Make sure that he, like, really understands what he's doing here." Xenia looks into the Architect Guy's eyes and gives him a kinda sorta long and pleading look, hoping that he's maybe a nice guy and might give up the name just 'cause it's a decent thing to do.
+++++++++++++
"I'll walk you back to the Ghost, Belkie." The girl rogue is lost in thought as she walks up the street next to the halfling cleric. "It just doesn't seem ... I mean ... " A sigh. "Maybe this is just what growing up is. You think, Belkie?"
Lang & Sunshine Monday January 8th, 2007 11:59:35 PM
Lang gets embarrassed when Angus puts him on the spot. He pretends not to hear and gives Susnhine his undivided attention until the conversation moves on. lang gives Angus a sheepish smile in apology.
Lang nods in agreement when Angus talks of getting the Shield back together and working towards a common goal.
Syr Tuesday January 9th, 2007 12:57:45 AM
The elf joins the table and nods politely to the ladies only replying, "Lang here is the only enchanted person that I know." Eager to change the subject, he turns to answer Angus, "I think it's going to take at least a week to get shop set up. After that, we'll start to see some business. I'm going to try and meet with suppliers tomorrow to set up that process."
Later, as the bard pulls him aside he nods, "Not a problem. BUT how about a man and a dwarf? I hate to stereotype but I'm assuming that the dwarf knows stonework. We won't need the skilled craftsman for another couple of days on the docks. We have to get the walls going first. Besides, this will be a good oppportunity to see what they know." Pausing for a moment, "Hey Wynn, how is the house overall? Is the location everything we wanted?"
Scott the Southern One Tuesday January 9th, 2007 1:06:03 AM
It was a short holiday week but I wanted to remind everyone (even me) that it was time to resume posting.

Belkior Tuesday January 9th, 2007 7:55:53 AM
The halfling cleric responds to Xenia's question with a shrug.
"I don't know, really. I grew up in the Temple and, well, the Temples are all pretty much the same. Sure, they're in different places, but the routine takes over when you're living and working there."
Belkior looks pensive for a moment, rubbing at this chin with one hand.
"Now that I'm spending more time out of the Temple, I'm startng to get an idea of what you mean. But the Creator made the Wold a living place so, just like people, it changes. Sometimes for the better, sometimes not. We have free will so we can try to direct the changes as we would like, but change is sure to come. Like it or not."
A View From the Road of Life (Temp DM/Al) Tuesday January 9th, 2007 10:43:01 AM
Cletus puts his hand to his chin and his brows lower in thought.
"I would say that there are no easy answers to your dilemma, Oh Brother in Domi. I am not sure what advice I can give you." Then the cleric notes the look of clear eyed serenity upon the face of Lissa the Hand. "Lissa?" He asks, raising a questioning eyebrow.
Lissa the Hand begins her explanation.
"The problem is one of Justice verses Order. Law is necessary for the peace and prosperity of society. In this way, Law creates Order. And the People must have Justice in order to maintain their faith in the Concept of the Law. And yet when Justice is turned against the very engines that maintain the Law the People lose confidence. It promotes doubt and unease. In the long run, a greater Order may rise once Justice has been enacted, but one can never know at what price."
"So the question becomes, which do the People of Floating City need more of at this time? Justice or Order?"
Cletus Waverack nods his head and looks at Lissa the Hand with an admiring eye.
"And you should see how well she fights," he says to Bin with a wink. "Perhaps there is some advice I can offer you. It may not be much. But I offer you the word, Subtlety. At times a battle is won through finesse rather than overwhelming force. Speak with all parties involved. Sometimes a warrior must be a statesman as well. I know that's not much as advice goes. But with the right application it may take you far."
"I don't think you'll have to worry about retribution from a high power, though. This sounds like a straight forward accident. Unfortunately, I don't think you'll have much luck getting an audience with a person of high authority either. The reconstruction is everyone's first priority, and they're extremely busy."
He opens the door to the storage room. "I wish I could have been of greater help, but this sounds like a thing best handled amongst yourselves."
(It shouldn't take you more than a couple of hours to walk down through the levels to the Giggling Ghost, Bin. That would put you right into the current scene. Or, you could do something else if you so choose.)
++++++++++++++++++++++
That evening, the Shields begin to show up at the Giggling Ghost in ones and twos.
Syr updates the group on the progress of the company. There's still work to be done come the new day. And there's the matter of leadership. Unless the group wants to put all of their time into running this company, there will have to be someone else in charge. Someone that the group knows is reliable in both competence and honesty.
Wynn returns with news of the Properties. He's not only done a fair bit of cleaning, but he's also taken care of some basic restocking. With all of that done, the group should have little problem moving in tomorrow.
Despite all attempts by Lang to hide himself away, all the girls seem fascinated by him. Maybe there's an allure to flirting with dangerous creatures. The gleam of a sharp tooth, the flash of a clawed hand. The possibility of taming the wild beast, especially a wild fur covered beast. And there is such seductive potential behind the handsome ranger beneath the bugbear enchantment. How can a girl resist? They pepper Lang with questions about being a bugbear, life in the woods, his dog, his fur, everything.
Beeble turns from the conversation long enough to answer Angus' question.
"Haven't seen her in a long time. I think she went off to live with a group of adventurers. Her name was ... "
" ... XENIA!!!"
The girls shout as Xenia and Belkior enter the inn. There is more shouting, hugging, jumping around and general excitement as the ex-roommates reacquaint themselves with each other. Along the way, Xenia and Belkior relate to the others what they had found at the site of the Monument.
The group moves along the road of Life. Bright futures lie off on the distant horizon. Dark clouds as well. And, at the sides of the road, mysterious sounds and comfortable shaded spots appear to draw a body to distraction.
Angus Tuesday January 9th, 2007 1:15:00 PM
Angus is having a hard time hiding his pleasure at all of the attention Lang is getting from the lovlies, as this was his intent all along. We have to get the ranger out of his shell and what better way than a woman or women?.
As Angus suspected, Xenia is the long lost roomate of this trio and Angus checks his purse just to be sure that do not have the same trade.
Angus is pleased to hear about the enterprising Syr. "Syr, maybe Happy will know of a caretaker for your venture?"
Angus feigns whiping sweat off his brow as Wynn desrcribes his work to date at the properties. "You are the man for the job Wynn" and Angus pours him a glass of wine.
Angus's face turns sour at the thought of the problems with the memorial. "We need to camp out at the memorial and stop the construction from taking place. That way we can get the attention of the new owners of the property. Then maybe we can get a meeting."
Angus looks to his group of friends and the girls jumping up and down with Xenia "Are we going to round up a new group of orphans in the city and find them a new matron before moving on to other adventures?"
Bin Tuesday January 9th, 2007 2:18:30 PM
Bin comes in and sits down at the table wearing a feint smile. He admires Xenia's ex roommates and winks at the other guys with a nod of appreciation. He orders a glass of mead and food, staring off into the fire as the others chat. At Angus's suggestion of finding new orphans he smiles at him with affection. Well pleased he wants to help the parentless children of the city and responds, "Why don't we all enjoy the evening tonight and in the morning we can discuss many things, including what happened in my travels today." Bin's mood brightens as he begins to participate in the conversations.
Xenia Tuesday January 9th, 2007 8:57:14 PM
"I was afraid you were maybe dead or sump'in. I mean, it was so crazy with the plants and all and the city tipping over. I'm really glad you're not. All dead, I mean."
"Um ... " Xenia pulls the girls over. "This is Wynn Brightsong. He's my guy. Wynn, this Beeble Winterbrook. And this is Oben Longly. We shared rooms in this bell tower when I first came to Floating City. I ... I'm sorry, but I don't know you," Xenia says to the third girl. "My names Alexandria Next, but everyone calls me Xenia."
"We're an adventuring group, you know?" the rogue continues on. "We're the Crimson Shields of Hope. We help folks. And we fight, like, mummies and vampires and stuff." Xenia nods her head to affirm her claims as the faces of her friends light with surprise and incredulity. "That's Syr, and Belkior and Bin Berry over there. I guess you met Angus and Lang already."
"Hey Angus, you figure all the kids what lost their folks in the Attack of the Crying Woods are still wandering out in the streets? I mean, you'd think someone'd have tried to round them up and, like, feed them or something already. Doncha think? Maybe we should try and find out. You know, track them down and give them a hand, huh?"
"Hey, Happy," Xenia calls to the proprietor of the Giggling Ghost, "you know anything about folks taking care of any orphans?"
Wynn Tuesday January 9th, 2007 9:26:24 PM
Wynn relays the shape of the house to Syr and does his best to describe the nature of the work that must be done to the elf. "Other than the garden wall at the back, there are a few minor cracks in the back wall of the house, and some repairs to the front steps that require a stonemason. The rest is just plaster, paint, a bit of light carpentry and the removal of the refuse left behind by the plants...I think you'll like the place, lots or room a garden area and easy access to the parkland".
Wynn nods politely at Xenia's long lost friends and confirms her story of adventuring. "Perhaps you've already heard of the 'Tomb of Atmahlanto' or our defeat of the Anvil Hearts, or even our role in freeing Floating City from the vines. I dare say our feats have been sung about in more than one inn."
Wynn begins to beam with delight at the thought that their actions have been committed to song, even if they were composed by himself, and that just perhaps they have achieved a small portion of acclaim.
DM George Tuesday January 9th, 2007 10:47:40 PM
Night passes into day and back into night again. The days fly by and the Crimson Shields find themselves occupied in various different duties. A home is being moved into and decorated with personal items and furnishings, a business started with personnel hired and goods and inventory brought in. A beloved memorial moved with honor from the old orphanage site and a new building gets under construction. The group is relieved to find out that a girl's school is being built at the old location and the sleazy shady character is actually a very nice man who will help run it. The memorial is placed in a nice garden with benches and flowers.
Six weeks have passed in a blink of an eye as the Crimson Shields gather around the table to discuss the accomplishments over a fine dinner. The Floating City while still in disarray seems to be getting back to normal. Its movement has finally stopped well into the middle of the lake, driving the prices of many good to be higher than normal.
OOC This is your chance to describe IN DETAIL all of the things you want to get accomplished during the past six weeks. I need details on this business. What does it do? Who is running it? Where it is at? Where do you live now? I understand you have an apartment but where it is and what is the set up? If you are going to spend time scribing some spells or making some magic items, this is your chance. I doubt you will have this kind of block of time for a long time so take advantage of it. This is your chance to set up the details of how you want things to be without me getting too involved. The more you tell Drew and me now, the less we will bug you latter. I do reserve the right to a veto but will let mundane matters be handled by you. This is the good and kindly DM speaking, tomorrow I become evil again.
I have only received 3 character sheets from Wynn, Bin, Xenia, and Angus. Every one else get them in pronto please. Again Drew and I will be sharing DM responsibilities equally. I will start off with the day to day posting and Drew will handle combat. We will eventually switch and fill in for each other as needed. I will try and post around 9 pm EST but no promises. You will be safe if you can get your posts in either in the morning or early afternoons or very late at night. Glad to be back.
Belkior Wednesday January 10th, 2007 7:59:16 AM
The halfling cleric is scarcely to be seen in the first couple weeks following the purchase of the new home and the business. When Belkior finally emerges from his small room, he shows off the vestment to his companions.
"It will help me when I cast spells. And when dealing with people who revere Alemi, too. I simply wish that I could afford the time ... and money ... to improve it."
Belkior joins the conversation around the apartment, catching up on what his companions have been doing. All the while, his fingers have been fretting at the fur of his legs.
When the next day rolls around, Belkior will attend the closest Temple of Alemi for prayers and to help tend the ill and injured who are there. On his way back to the new residence, however, he stops by the Catacombs for another purchase. When his companions ask, Belkior will explain that he needs to keep practicing his crafting abilities.
After completing that work, Belkior will make himself useful. That means either creating things for his companions, working at the Temple, or tending to the building crew hired by Syr and the others.
Schedule Days 1 to 15: Craft Setanos' Vestment of Holy Incantations +1 (with breaks) Day 16: Temple Work Days 17 to 18: Craft Ishgaran Gloves of Dexterity (Catacombs purchase pending) Days 19 to 42: Available for limited crafting for companions, tending to ill and injured
Syr Wednesday January 10th, 2007 9:24:55 AM
Gradually, Syr settles into a routine. Each morning, he rises early and spends time in the future garden stretching out the kinks in his body. From there, he grabs a quick bite and makes his way down to the warehouse or to the next construction site. He continues to update the rest of the group on the progress.
(OOC: a much more detailed post to follow tonight regarding the business)
Angus Wednesday January 10th, 2007 9:58:52 AM
Angus spends his time sleeping late, rising around 9:00 am each moring and then going for a stroll. Angus spends the morings walking the city as he watches it being rebuilt. Angus will talk to shopkeeper and the workers on various levels of the Big Float, just to meet new people and to get a feel for the city.
Angus will have lunch at a new establishment each day, but will not eat on the trash level, again just to make contact and get a lay of the land.
The afternoons Angus will again wonder the City, but with more purpose as he is attempting to find out what has become of any orphaned children and how they are being cared for. Angus is interested in what kind of benifactor has stepped forward and if it is necessary for him and the Crimson Shields of Hope to assist.
Angus will typically have a light dinner at the Giggling Ghost and while away a few hours on his flute. Angus will see what other musicians are around to join him. Angus will invite Wynn several times per week to join him at the GG to add his story telling abilities and Xenia for her wonderous dance.
Angus will attempt to get Lang to charter a boat to the shore as Angus wants an escort when he practices some of his new spells (Fireball and acid arrow). Not to mention that his new spells might make a mess of the city.
Angus will visit Syr's work site every few days to see how he is doing.
Angus will visit the Temple of Alemi and request a tour and history from Belkior.
Angus will also spend some time with Bin in an effort to get to know the newest memeber of the Crimson Shields better and to determine his capabilities for use in combat. Angus also want to learn more of his history and the reason he chose his following.
Angus will spend some time visiting the new memorial to the lost orphans and Mamma Faust.
In the city, Angus will also practice his new dimension door spell, traveling with his friends whenever possible. Angus has given up using he front door to the groups new abode and prefers to dimension door inside.
Angus will spend the six weeks at leasuire as much as possible.
Bin Berry Wednesday January 10th, 2007 12:20:40 PM
Bin try's to stay as busy as possible during the next few weeks. He speaks with Syr and the others about building a central structure between the two main buildings on the different lots, to make an enormous mansion. He also get's involved with hiring mercenaries to insure the work crew and the equipment are safe. He enjoys the company of Angus and joins him on his walks through town, in an attempt to help the orphans. Angus will find out more about Bin. He is soft spoken and loves to laugh and joke. He feels terrible if he offends someone accidentally but does not tolerate bully's or those that prey on others weaker, through violence or harsh words. Bin is actually a street scrapper, having Improved Unarmed Attack (domain), Weapon Focus (unarmed), as well as his Light hammer as a weapon. " I don't have to fight very often, thankfully, but I find I can take most people by surprise when I jump in the middle of them. It's not something most people expect from someone my size."
In these weeks he heals the sick and wounded with his healing abilities, either spells or skill, as needed, as well as tends to any questions about Domi that may be asked by others. If he see's someone abused or mistreated, he is willing to enter into open conflict with the aggressor until a resolution is reached. He is not willing to stand by and watch such things happen.
In his down time at night, he lays out an area in one of the two houses they bought to call his own, setting up a shrine to Domi where he may pray in the morning and evening on schedule.
As long as his pilgrimage through the streets to heal the sick and wounded is successful, he continues, however, if the people in the city, even the Trash level, appear to be healthy, he will donate what time that remains to the main temple of Domi.
By then, the entire group would know his background.
He comes from the back streets of the bad area of Plateau City. Growing up on scraps in the street, not knowing a mother or father, he became a survivor. Malnutrition settles into his life making him weaker and more prone to sickness then the other street scamps. The many street gangs through out the city would encourage him to join, but nay could he do to others that which they required. So he was forced to flee each area, to find hardship in the next. At twelve years old he was scavenging for food with his little friend he had met. Her name was Bilery and her eyes were as dark as the muck on her face. A drunk came down the alley and saw her one day. Wanting more then just friendly company he grabbed her to take her away. Bin determined to see her safe futilely fights the drunken figure with his bare hands, screaming and yelling. With a vicious back hand, Bin is slammed against the wall and into the nearby gutter. The next thing he remembers is the face of a goddess wearing a white hood asking him if he was alright. He didn't hurt anymore and the large knot on his face wasn't there like he thought it would be. The drunk standing frozen in place with his back to Bin and two guards preparing to arrest him is all that kept Bin from thinking he was dead. The first words out of his mouth are "Bilery?" As he starts to stand to find her. The kind woman rests her hand on his shoulder and it was comforting. Something he was not accustomed to. "She ran off when I stopped this man from hurting her. She is fine. However, your destiny is not hers. I saw the entire incident from across the street and I have a message I would like for you to hear." She stands upright and takes his hand. He does not feel afraid only curious before he asks, "May I have a piece of bread please? I'm awfully hungry." A tear trickles down her cheek as she replies "My brother you will never know hunger again. My name is Sorreal a priest of Domi."
Bin's eyes well up with moisture as he tells the story, thinking fondly of the little girl he has never seen again and the woman that saved his life, and soul.
Xenia d20+7=25 Wednesday January 10th, 2007 4:46:44 PM
It's kinda nice. Catching up with Beeble and Oben. And the new girls interesting too. Kinda. It's weird to think of someone taking her place. But then, she just went off and never came back. Didn't she now?
Friends, new and old, she walks home through the streets of Fence Level and says goodbye in front of their new place. Not so nice as living in a bell tower. But it's just good to be able to find any place with all the buildings and stuff down.
Then Xenia walks back to the Giggling Ghost and the room she has with Wynn.
The next day is filled with cleaning and pushing furniture around. The girl rogue walks from one of the upstairs balcony rooms to the next and then back again. Finally, she choses the one to the east for herself and Wynn. They're both nice, with big double doors opening up onto the balcony. Both, of course, have a nice view of the garden and the woods out back. But the western room has a side window that opens onto the neighbors. The side window on the eastern room opens onto the other property that the Shields had bought. Much nicer. Much more private.
When the stone working guy comes, Xenia wades through the overgrown garden with the guy to view the breech in the back wall.
"You know, I was thinking, I mean, since it's already broken through and all, couldja instead of bricking the wall closed again, maybe fix it up to be, like, a gate?"
=== OOC ===
Sorry, that's all I can get in today. The 25 is a Gather Info roll for other things. But I don't have the time to write them up today.
There are descriptions of the house in the posts of Friday January 5th, 2007 10:10:28 AM and Thursday December 28th, 2006 6:19:23 PM. Here is a Map of Merchant Level. The Properties that the Shields purchased for their new home are circled in red.
Wynn Wednesday January 10th, 2007 7:03:48 PM
The half-elf woke each morning, brushed stray whisps of hair from Xenia's face, and placed a single gentle kiss on her forehead, before sliding out of bed. A ritual that was rarely missed.
His days were filled with activity. Breakfast, cleaning and minor repairs to their accomodations, and slow but steady progress on the garden area.
The dwarven worker sent by Syr had repaired the back garden wall and installed a wrought iron gate where the wall had been breached. The gate was held in place by heavy steel pins sunk deep into the stone wall and it swung easily under the pressure of a single hand. The latch was equally well imbedded in the stone, and the whole affair spoke volumes about the skill of Syr's stonemason.
Once the garden had been cleared of debris and tidied up, Wynn used the area to practice his martial skills. He constructed the likeness of a medium-sized humanoid from bales of straw and burlap. 'Bill the Ogre' required repeated repairs after being slashed, impaled, and otherwide dispatched on a daily basis by a variety of melee, thrown and ranged weapons.
Afternoons were spent recording the Shields recent exploits in his personal journal and in making the rounds of all the local inns, restaurants, and small businesses in the area. Where he could help out a local resident, he did. Whenever possible he spread his purchases among the local establishments, buying the esssential pots and pans, linens, and other mundane household items at fair prices, although never without some friendly haggling. Over time, he came to know each of the local shopkeepers and innkeepers by name.
Evenings and nights were reserved for time with the Shields and with Xenia. The balcony doors from their room were often left ajar to let in the night sounds and breezes, and the occasional perfume of night blooming flowers that grew in the forested area beyond the back gate.
Wynn would have described his new found lot in life as idyllic, but somewhere deep in his soul he yearned for something more. His renditions of the Tomb of Atmahlanto had grown stale, and his memories of Prionel and the guardians less sharp. He yearned to hear the knock on the door that would invite the Crimson Shields to once again set out in search of adventure.
DM George Wednesday January 10th, 2007 10:15:55 PM
The group spends the six weeks in many different ways, some locked away in making magic items, others mutilating innocent straw puppets. Others wander the city looking for people to help and the general condition of there city and its citizens.
Angus and Belkior both notice that the city is still being cleaned up. Many buildings were damage during the Crying jungle's attack and even more were destroyed outright. The poor quarters suffered badly since the buildings in that area were less sturdy to begin with. Many of the citizens would be homeless due to lack of housing, but sadly it seems that many of those same citizens died during the attack or were carried away to be fed to the monstrous trees attacking the city. Many funerals are still taking place as new bodies are pulled from rubble being cleared away.
Still despite the sadness and rough conditions, all of the Crimson Shields see a remarkable spirit in the citizens of the Big Float. Everyone has been touched by tragedy in some way but it seems that most people are reaching out to help their neighbors. Families are taking in children who have lost their parents; others are sharing living space and food. Anyone who wants to work can find honest employment in cleaning and rebuilding since labor is scarce. The city shows signs of almost being reborn.
During the six weeks, many of the group reach out and meet new people in their exploration of the city. Both Belkior and Bin have found many people grateful for their help and many young ones seem to be coming to each of them for advice and guidance. Sadly they are often asked to say words at a funeral but Belkior was also asked to bless a new life which came into the Wold. The Crimson Shields also find time to relax and enjoy their vacation. Life isn't always a life and death struggle. Angus makes many new friends and many people enjoy his flute playing in the different Inns at night.
Maybe for the first time most of the Crimson Shields begin to feel that the Big Float has become their home. Yes they have lived here for many years but much of that time has been spent in life and death struggles. Through this tragedy, they have come to know many more of the average citizens and have them become friends. Most of those same citizens now know the Crimson Shields as heroes of the city as talk of their exploits have spread. Many times they can see people point at them and talking about them. It seems that the neighborhood likes having heroes living in it.
The new relationships with the neighbors yield an unexpected benefit. Darin, one of Angus's drinking companions, seeks him out and says, "Angus, I thought you should know that someone has been asking questions about you and your friends. He was trying to find out where you live? I didn't tell him anything but did mention that you like to hang out in the Giggling Ghost. He was a little scary looking. Carried a big sword and was dressed in dark armor. Don't see to many people like that around here anymore."
ooc I will give one more day for people who haven't posted their six weeks of stuff to post them. If you don't get them in by tomorrow, you lose the time and I will assume you were idle. Also still looking for some character sheets.
Syr d20+30=36 d20+30=35 d20+30=44 d20+30=32 d20+30=50 Thursday January 11th, 2007 9:36:25 AM
With a newfound purpose in his life, Syr approaches each day with new vigor. He can be seen all about the various construction sites and at the warehouse. So dedicated is he that a few nights are spent on the floor of the warehouse. After that experience, he directs the crew to build their own quarters on the 2nd floor of the building. Initially, business is slow and the elf uses the crew as criers walking from level to level proclaiming the wonders of 'Shield Construction.' Until work begins to pick up, he even rents out space in the warehouse to ships just making port. As the week's fly by, more and more work comes to them. The work varies as one day could be spent clearing a plot of land while the next is repairing a shop. Work is done on all levels of Floating City.
The first week, he oversees and helps with the construction of the warehouse for the group. The warehouse is located just to the right of the number 56 on the Fence Level on the corner of Riverfront and the docks. With such easy access, he finds that he has little trouble with finding suppliers for construction materials. At one point hoping to create a more reliable supply of materials, the elf even name drops, "You know, when we were escorting Prionel to the city he commented on how amazing the city was. I think our good friend may be able to get you better prices if you mention the Shields to him..."
After pulling on his hair in front of the crew, Syr screams in frustration with the logistics of ordering the supplies and the planning that is required. Thankfully, the cabinetmaker, Dotta, is there and patiently sits him down explaining and clarifying all of his questions. During the following two weeks, Syr and Dotta spend many hours together piecing together the different aspects of the business. Gradually, he comes to rely on her opinion and trusts her judgment more and more. Eventually, he places 10000gp of his own at her disposal for the business and rewards her with a 500 gp bonus to show his trust. The material is used to fully stock the warehouse and avoid any supply delays.
Over the next three weeks, Syr and Dotta spend more and more time together, seemingly enjoying each other's company. Sometimes talking business and other times just sharing a meal.
Each week, he stands in front of the Shields and updates them on the progress of the company. Especially pleased with the initial success, he proudly displays the profits that they have made. At the end though, he cautions all, "Once we get distracted by more exciting times and my attention is diverted, profits will fall some but we still should be able to make ends meet. Don't worry too much though, I have a reliable person in mind that has become my right arm throughout this. Dotta will be assuming my role when we are unavailable." (OOC: profit will fall by ~24 gps/week)
Profit per Share Week 2: (35)= 44 gp Week 3: (37)= 52 gp Week 4: (45)= 80 gp Week 5: (33)= 32 gp
Sorry but still not really sure what kind of business your running? I am gathering that it is some kind of construction business but please give me the details...thanks
Angus Thursday January 11th, 2007 11:56:30 AM
Angus is pleased by the caution his friend, Darin has show. "Darin, thanks for the information. I will buy you dinner tomorrow night at the Giggling Ghost. Did you get the scary guys name?"
After Darin leaves, Angus will gather all of his shield mates he can find and mention "Someone has been asking about us at the Giggling Ghost. I plan on going for dinner and drinks tonight. I want everyone who can go to come with me and find out what this character is all about." Angus will give a brief description of the inquirer.
Once at the GG, Angus will buy Darin dinner if he is in attendance. Angus will look for this scary guy that Darin described.

Mage Armor
Belkior Thursday January 11th, 2007 12:16:46 PM
The halfling cleric is ready for something different. Belkior had spent years doing what he has been - ministering to the sick and infirm and performing everyday religious services - but that seems too ... too limited now that he has had a taste of adventuring. Both are good, but he thinks that he should venture into dark places, while he still can, to work for the good of the Wold.
When Angus mentions the news that people are enquiring about them, Belkior is more than ready to accompany his companions. He prominently wears his new vestment to proclaim his faith, thinking that it would be of greater benefit than hindrance.
Belkior asks his companions as they walk to the Ghost, "What do you think it might be?"
Bin Thursday January 11th, 2007 1:28:47 PM
Shrugging his shoulders, Bin adds to the topic. "Well, we said we wanted to be accessable to the needs of the public, perhaps this is our chance. To be honest with you, I am looking forward to a little more action then what we have seen these past weeks."
Xenia Thursday January 11th, 2007 2:34:07 PM
The day after the purchase of the new properties propelled Alexandria Next into the investigation of the mysterious building slated to go up over the Orphanage Plot, and into a double life. After a day of cleaning, she had slipped from the house. Beginning on Fence Level, Xenia worked through the inns and other watering holes in search of information on who might have purchased the site, where they may be from, and just what business they might be up to. (Gather Info Check from last post.)
Mornings would come with a sleepy smile at Wynn's gentle kiss. There was kaffe on the balcony overlooking the woods and the overgrown garden that changed day by day into beautiful place with a sturdy back gate, beds of flowers and a small plot of tomatoes, snap beans, zucchini and mini-squash.
"Shield Construction. That's a great name, Syr!" She had said at one of the business meetings. "Um ... Is that Net profit or Gross?"
Those had been the days.
Each night had brought hours of wandering the streets, returning again and again to the same places trying different disguises or hiding in the shadows just listening to the rumors. Spy Girl. That's how her imagination had begun to paint herself. From Fence to Gold, moving through the levels. Each night gets nothing. Nothing that she doesn't know already. Two or three nights, the rogue makes forays into Trash Level. Nothing. Still nothing.
Nights of empty legwork. During this time it's the days that make life worthwhile. Little things like making lunch for Wynn. The familiar strains of Angus' flute. The excitement of the new company Syr had started. The compassion and care that Belkior and the new guy, Bin exhibit every day. Even Lang in his quiet way. As the dark circles of fatigue sink into the flesh under Xenia's eyes, the world of the group is all that keeps her going.
Then the day comes, and it comes from a place unexpected. A flower shop on Merchant Level. In the shop, her eye catches the writing on a slip of paper, a note of delivery. And on the note is the location of the old orphanage on Fence Level! It doesn't take long to follow the trail back to the purchaser and find that the building on the site is not to be a bordello after all. A school for girls! Who'd have guessed?
Weeks of searching through the dark of night, and the answer has always lain within the light. A load lifts from Xenia's shoulders. She announces her findings that evening, and that night, she curls up with Wynn for an early evening. She has a nice hot bath and wears a flower in her hair. Once again in the dark she pads across the floor. But this time in the sheer nightie that he had bought for her in Plateau City. Tonight was his night. And the morning to come would bring a new Wold of adventure.
Wynn d20+17=25 d20+6=14 d20+9=24 Thursday January 11th, 2007 7:04:58 PM
The bard listens to Angus' tale of inquiries about the Crimson Shields and agrees to accompany the mage on his meeting, albeit in disguise and from a distance.
He follows Angus into the Giggling Ghost disguised as a ship's officer from one of the ships plying cargo across the lake. [Disguise =25]. From the neighbouring table he listens in to the conversation [Listen=14] and remains prepared to intercede if required.
Wynn arranges with Angus to follow the unknown contact after the meeting if the mage provides him with the appropriate signal, a simple tug of the right ear lobe. In which case, the bard is prepared to cast invisibility upon himself and tail the man. [Move silently = 24]
Lang &Sunshine Thursday January 11th, 2007 8:44:38 PM
Lang & Sunshine spend a lot of time wandering around the city during the time off. They do not have anything to work on personally and Lang does not have a head, or face for that matter, for any of the beauracratic paperwork that is going on.
Lang will help out, where needed, with the cleanup of the city. He will lend his new found bodies strength if he can.
Lang also takes the time to go with Angus to the shore so he can test out his new spells. Lang and Sunshine lay on the grass and watch in amazement at Angus' new power.
Other than that, Lang will try to check in at the Giggling Ghost everyday in case any Shield member leaves a message for him or the Shields in general.
DM George d20=1 Thursday January 11th, 2007 10:22:19 PM
OOC Glad to see everyone posting! Good job.
Most of the Crimson Shields decide to join Angus at the Giggling Ghost for a meal. Darin is waiting for Angus ready to take up his offer for a meal and anxious to point out the man making inquiries about the Crimson Shields. Wynn, in perfect disquise sits nearby, while the others all sit together.
Angus, becoming quite the regular at many of the taverns, is called upon to play his flute, and many of the Giggling Ghost patrons second the call. The night wears on and the Inn gets more and more crowded. Many of the other dining establishments were destroyed during the attack and the Giggling Ghost is enjoying the extra patronage.
Darin taps Angus's shoulder and burps in his ear (It seems Darin drank most of his dinner)"That is the man who was asking about you." He unsteadily points at a tall middle aged man who just entered the inn. He is dressed in leather armor, soft tall boots and walks with a graceful stride. He has a long scar under his eye which travels to his lip and greying hair tied into a ponytail. He is only armed with daggers but the hilts look well worn and very servicable.
He is looking around the common room and finally with a shrug, moves over to the bar and signals to the barman.
Syr d20+8=20 Friday January 12th, 2007 1:41:54 AM
Hearing Xenia's question, Syr cocks his head to one side and answers, "Net profit of course. In fact, I made a mistake. Dotta's help was much more than expected. Here are the actual numbers...
Week 2 (36) = 44 gp Week 3 (36) = 44 gp (forgot previous week profit bonus) Week 4 (45) = 80 gp Week 5 (33) = 32 gp Week 6 (51) = 104 gp Total = 304
(OOC: I don't know WHERE I got those numbers they sure don't match up and I'm missing week 6! Construction business, take a look at Syr's character sheet for the details, email me any questions)
Hearing Angus' request for the group, Syr calls it an early day. Heading to the Ghost, he steps in and orders an ale. Sipping at the large beverage, a small sigh of pleasure escapes his lips, "The has got to be perfect after a hard, sweaty day." As Darin points out the figure in question, he squints his eyes examining him trying to determine any signs of his identity (Spot 20)
Angus - Mage Armor Friday January 12th, 2007 8:39:27 AM
Angus finishes his latest solo on his flute for the assembled patrons of the Giggling Ghost. Angus will thank Darin for his useful information and pat him on the back as he rises to investigate.
Angus will pass as many of his Shield mates as he can on the way to the bar and the mysterious inquirer. Angus whispers "The man at the bar with the greying ponytail, follow along and back me up." Angus is pleased to have his Shield mates around as the air seems electric with possibilities. Vacation feel over.
Angus thinks to himself, where is Wynn and then remembers the bards ability to blend into a crowd, very useful.
Angus will belly up to the bar, right next to the stranger, and order a red wine. "How are you doing good sire? I hear you may be looking for Angus Deminoff and the Crimson Shields? You have just found both." Angus will toast the stranger and take a sip and wait for his response.
Belkior Friday January 12th, 2007 11:43:05 AM
The halfling cleric stays at the table in Ghost while his companions work the room. With the vestment, he now feels as if he were on display. The nods and otehr gestures from the other patrons are one of the less desirable aspects of Belkior's chosen path. He tries to be an example of living a virtuous life in order to bring people closer to Alemi's vision, not to receive veneration himself. He knows that there are others here at the Ghost who would not welcome his presence, and he wants to allow those people to find their own path to goodness rather than having it thrust upon them.
Still, he watches carefully as Angus makes his way to the bar to introduce himself to this stranger that has been asking about them. Nothing is likely occur here in the Ghost but one can never be sure. It wasn't that very long ago that the Shields fought off a crazed druid and rampaging plants within the walls of this inn.

You wanna make a disguise better? Turn a mark's eye away from the disguise.
Xenia runs her eye around the room to pick Wynn out of the crowd.
"WOOO!" She raises a mug toward the ceiling with just the right tilt to slop a bit of it over the lip and onto the tabletop. She dances out between the tables to the dying strains of Angus' flute, turning and moving her feet in a complex jig.
"Bumana bum bum bum dum dee Woo! Choogidee bum bum bum dum dum dee ... " She continues the tune in impromptu gibberish. "oop! Hahahaha. Sorry. Boom choogidee bum bum bum ... " Xenia dances across the room with one secret eye turned toward Gray Ponytail Guy."

DM George Saturday January 13th, 2007 12:12:26 PM
The dark man takes a look at Angus checking him up and down, head to toe. He turns back, lifts his ale and takes a large swallow. Without looking at Angus he says, "I have a message for Angus and the rest of the Crimson Shields. A woman who looks after some orphans asked me to give it to them. There are two conditions to you receiving the message. The first is you tell me the circumstances on how you met the woman and her name. The second is the small matter of my expenses. I was also told by this lady you would give me 50 gps when I delivered her message to you."
The man turns back to Angus and gives him a salute back. The woman is sweet and kind but this is a cruel and deceiving Wold we live in so I will require payment before I give it."
The man's attention is drawn to the drunken woman dancing around like a woman who has had to many green gnomishes. His eyebrows rise for a second but his attention is drawn back to Angus's tall face. "So do we have a deal?"
Xenia d20+15=23 d20+20=22 d20+1=10 d20+2=22 Sunday January 14th, 2007 10:18:25 AM
Ponytail Guy's saying something. Doing most of the talking. The rogue dances closer to get an earful of what they're talking 'bout.
From the guy's voice he's laying down, like, terms or something. Sounds like business. (Sense Motive 22 /Nat 20). Definitely Business with, like, a Capital Biz.
But what's he saying? (Listen 23 vs DC25) ... dishunsdayasing da sajsh ...
Fram, fram, frambly fram!
The rogue narrows in on the guy's face, trying to read his lips. No problem for her at thirty feet of distance. If she didn't have to keep up this drunken dance thing, that is. Just can't seem to split her concentration between the dance, the drunk act, and the reading lips bit. (Spot 22, Concentration 10)
fram!
Xenia dances on, waiting on a signal from Angus.
Lang & Sunshine Sunday January 14th, 2007 3:09:06 PM
Lang keeps and eye on Angus as he walks over to the stranger. Trying to appear casual, Lang and Sunshine move to put themselves between the door and the pony-tailed man.
Wynn Sunday January 14th, 2007 11:39:35 PM
The bard stays at his own table, sipping his beer and surreptitiously eyeing the goings on at the bar.
Bin d20+5=19 Monday January 15th, 2007 12:59:29 AM
Bin listens to the man as he speaks with Angus. He is used to being over looked, due to his size and he has found it, at times, to be an advantage. Bin studies the man's every word and attempts to find his true motives, or if there is a ring of truth to his words. "If what you say is true, then you know in fact who you are dealing with and with that you know you will be paid accordingly." Then looking to Angus, "I don't think we should pay for that which is unseen or unconfirmed."
Sense Motive: 19
Belkior d20+8=20 d20+7=25 Monday January 15th, 2007 7:41:43 AM
The halfling cleric watches the meeting between Angus and this fellow at the bar. With the noise in the bar, Belkior can't make out what the man is saying but he is able to see the man's face most of the time, enough to get some of what the man is saying.
Belkior's unsure of what to do. This might simply be an attempt to get some money from them especially since they have acquired some prominence in the Float. Or, it might be for real, too.
Angus - Mage Armor Monday January 15th, 2007 9:15:20 AM
Angus laughs and smile at the pony tail man. "The womens name is Kay and we saved her from becomming plant food here at the Giggling Ghost. Kay watched over the orphans while we battled the plants. Tell how are Kay and the orphans doing thses days?"
Angus takes another swig of his wine and count out 25 gp from his purse and pushes it to the man. Angus then counts out 25 more gps and holds them in his hand. I will hear of this information first before paying the second half of your fee and you must tell me of Kay's friend also."
Angus waits for the information and he is no longer laughing or smiling, just serious and a bit concerned.
Syr d20+6=25 Monday January 15th, 2007 1:06:05 PM
Syr sits quietly at the table. Other than taking an occasional sip of his ale, he examines the crowd for anyone else paying particular attention to Angus' conversation. (Spot 25) Leaning over to Wynn, "I can't make out what they are saying but do you think we should follow the guy?"
