Winterglade Tuesday January 2nd, 2007 3:37:03 AM
After the uncomfortable but necessary business of Detect Poison is taken care of Winterglade partakes in the meal, politely praising their hosts for their hospitality. His mind is wandering, however, for he is already thinking about the sword and what guardians its resting place might have acquired over the ages.
Flat-top Tuesday January 2nd, 2007 4:48:40 AM
Flat-top who is not a big flesh eather, Eats about half of his fish and slides the other half to Heyou when Brahmah is not looking. But will eat his salad, then goes back for more, all the while the bear is pushing Flat-top rump for more of the sweet cakes.
Flat-top is learning a valued lesson "Never Feed a Bear While your still at the Table!"
Zeoll Tuesday January 2nd, 2007 7:42:01 AM
Zeoll helps as best he can with setting up, then digs in with relish.
"Ahh, home cooking! This brrings me back!" he tells his friends. He is clearly enjoying his first taste of wemic cuisine back on home turf.
After dinner, he offers to sing a hymn of thanks to Domi for the hospitality the Chosen have been shown.
Moshushi Tuesday January 2nd, 2007 11:18:04 AM
Moshushi feels a little bad that he hasn't done a thing to help set up, so he''ll eat and offer to help clean up.
"Good idea Zeoll."
OOC: Took a while. My new Year's resolution is to post stuff. I believe I've been tagging along all the time doing nothing. if wrong, ignore me.
My heroic tale begins with me doing the dishes.
Gecktar Tuesday January 2nd, 2007 3:29:31 PM
Gecktar prays for a while to Domi an thanks him for the help He sent to the Chosen.
A moment later he comes back to Rory's hut and helps setting the table if help is still needed.
"Thank you for this good looking meal !" he says while taking place around the table.
Brahmah Tuesday January 2nd, 2007 5:44:16 PM
Brahmah only eats from the fresh stores he brought from the Keep and decides that maybe Heyoo should too.
The leader of the Chosen nods at Mo. "What are you having?"
(Welcome aboard Mo!)
More Briefing - DM Donna Wednesday January 3rd, 2007 12:53:41 AM
The Detect Poison detects no poison in the food, and so everyone is free to eat heartily.
Heyoo is appreciative of the fish...and any extra honey cookies that Flat-top feels like giving him.
Leptine thanks Mosushi for his help--she will wash the dishes if he will clear off the table, please.
Bramah notices that while Rory is glib during the meal, his refusal to partake of the food the cleric offered has upset Sashia a bit. She disappears with Leptine to wash the dishes.
"Thank you, Zeoll, the hymn was well done!" Rory says to his fellow wemic. "Now...unless you have more questions for me...I will lead you to the clan site of the Sunsetters."
Flat-top Wednesday January 3rd, 2007 6:42:13 AM
Flat-top's hands are sticky, So he'll follow Shasha in the kitchen so he can wash his hands. When tat is done, he returns to the Party, "I hope I have not miss anything? My hands were sticky!"
Winterglade Wednesday January 3rd, 2007 9:37:23 AM
Winterglade bows to their host. "Winterglade wishes he could say you are welcome to pay a return visit to the Centaur Isle, but, times being what they are, all he has to offer is his gratitude and his prayers."
"No more questions come to Winterglade's mind right now. He is ready to continue our journey as soon as you are."
[Hi there Moshushi!]
Zeoll Wednesday January 3rd, 2007 2:26:44 PM
Zeoll is eager to get going.
"Thank you, Rory, and let us be on ourr way!"
DM Donna - OOC Wednesday January 3rd, 2007 4:20:38 PM
Apparently my email program is doing strange things to the messages I'm getting. As a result, I must ask each and every player to email me with the following information:
Your real name Your character's name, class(es) and level(s) Your PC's character sheet
I must have these as soon as possible, as the party is heading into a potential combat situation. If I don't have these from you at least before Monday, January 8th, then your PC will not be able to participate in combat (should combat actually arise.)
Gecktar Wednesday January 3rd, 2007 4:33:08 PM "Thank you for this sonptuous meal." he says.
After the meal he readies himself for the trip to the Sunsetters Tribe.
Winterglade Thursday January 4th, 2007 4:51:45 AM
Winterglade stretches. There are a few <cracks> and <snaps>. The centaur looks surprised.
"Too much time onboard a ship. Either that, or Winterglade starts getting old."
Flat-top Thursday January 4th, 2007 5:15:14 AM
With suprise, Flat-top turns to Winterglade?? A Centaur getting old??" Flat-top starts to check his pockets for a poting of anti ageing?? But soon discovers that he has no pockets.
Brahmah Thursday January 4th, 2007 1:07:04 PM

Heading off into the Sunset(ters') - DM Donna Friday January 5th, 2007 12:58:00 AM
After bidding Sashia and Leptine farewell, young Rory leads the Chosen out of Fffiffft, heading east and a bit north at a brisk pace.
"Purrrta is the clan mother." he explains as you all go. "However, she is quite aged, and rather forgetful. Her daughter Meowri is truly the acting matriarch. Purrrta is a lot like Hissta--very prideful about wemickind. However, we need only make our bows to her and then Meowri will show us to where we may speak with her."
Indeed, after about an hour of trotting along, a neat palisade meets the eyes of the Chosen. Rory approaches its only visible gate, calling out who he is and that he has guests who need to see the clan matriarch. A pair of strapping young male wemics open the gate and wave the party through to an open courtyard. Waiting there is a female wemic, just past middle-age perhaps, with dark brown hair and a friendly smile.
"You honor Clan Sunsetter with your presence, cleric of Tomi!" she greets Rory with a nod, then turns curious brown eyes to the rest of the party.
"I thank you, Meowri." Rory replies. "These are the Chosen of Tomi..." He introduces each of you in turn. The female wemic bows her head.
"We must appear before Mother." she says. "Follow me--I'll make it as brief as possible. Her health and her state of mind must not be taxed by excitement."
The party is led into a simple building that appears to be made of woven giant reeds and some kind of sandy plaster. Meowri leads you through a large dining hall and into a room that has what appears to be a large, low couch under a sizeable window/opening--but then you realize it isn't a couch at all...it's another female wemic, her four paws curled up under her, lying more or less against the wall so that she is soaking up the sunlight streaming into the room.
This new female is old, her hair mostly gray (although there are sandy streaks in it here and there) and her face lined with age. Her head is nodding as she naps in the warm sunlight.
"Mother." Meowri says softly, padding quietly forward and gently placing a hand on one of the elder wemic's shoulders. "Mother...Cleric Rory has some visitors who wish to pay their respects." The other wemic's eyes blink open and her head turns towards you--now the undeniable blood bond between mother and daughter is quite clear: they have the same tawny shade of brown in their eyes, and the elder female's features--wrinkled as they may be--clearly mirror Meowri's.
"Hmm? What's that? The cleric? Respect?" she asks in a voice quavering with decades of time. Then the matriarch focuses on the group. "Oh, ho! Captured some raiders from the other isles, eh?" She cackles.
"Cleric Rory, may I present Matriarch Purrrta." Meowri says loudly, while Rory makes a great show of bowing before the elder wemic. Meowri, however, while her mother is coyly interacting with the shaman, shakes her head at the Chosen, indicating that they should just let Purrrta speak as she will.
"Well, well...what are you waiting for?" Purrrta says to the party. "Make your bows and then go to wherever it is that Hissta has doubtless assigned you as slave labor...the old hussy." Both Rory and Meowri exchange amused glances and then look at the Chosen to see what it is you all choose to do now.
DM Donna - OOC Friday January 5th, 2007 1:21:07 AM
So far, I have character sheets for Gecktar, Winterglade, Flat-top, Brahmah & Zeoll. I need the others, please.
I also need for everyone to follow the directions carefully when you email me: in the email, please state your name, your character's name, their race, class and level, BESIDES giving me your character sheet.
Thank you.
Winterglade Friday January 5th, 2007 3:14:59 AM
Winterglade bows politely as ordered. Then he whispers: "This might not be the person we hoped to talk with. Let's get it over with as soon as possible and find someone who can help us, yes?"
Gecktar Friday January 5th, 2007 4:05:32 AM
As commanded, and as diplomacy asks, Gecktar bows forgiving the old wemic for her words. She is definately at the door of her life and live in an ancien world that has nothing to do with the actual world.
Brahmah Friday January 5th, 2007 6:19:50 AM
The wemic is a damn sight nicer than the last... but the slave comment!
Brahmah has learned, or is learning, to stay his tongue in 'diplomatic' situations.
He bows in kind and says nothing unless addressed directly. Though, Zeoll, the diplomat, should speak on behalf of the Chosen should the situation present itself.
He is ever vigilant however, his hands rarely stray far from his hilts.
(OOC: I have surgery in 4 hours, so I will be out for a couple of days and will not be posting.)
Flat-top Friday January 5th, 2007 7:03:33 AM
With a bowed head Flat-top Bows to the old Lady, Thinking that she was a beautiful Weimic when younger, Then then he laces is fingers torether (as if the were tied) and slowly trots off to the next room.
He whispers to Jack "Make her think that we are slaves, She'll never know the differance".
Zeoll d20+21=41 Friday January 5th, 2007 10:30:24 AM
Zeoll bows low and says to the elder wemic matriarch in wemic, "Respected Mother, thank you for your welcome here. Tomi's blessing on you and your house." Zeoll says a few more gentle words of thanks and honor to Purrrta and her people. He bows to Meowri and then backs away with the other Chosen.
Diplomacy 41! Nat 20!
Jack Stronghooves Friday January 5th, 2007 3:57:12 PM
When Jack Hears his silent buddy Moshushi talk in the hut two days ago he jumps in surprise and yells-
"He spoke! He spoke! Hey buddy! He hasn't talked since I met him! Well hello friend!"
On the trip to the small clan Jack is silent and thinking ready for what might have to come.
When the Wemic then Flat top say things about slaves his face turns red. He is not happy but he does somewhat of a bow or maybe a head-nod when asked to bow but he whispers to his friend Flat-Top with his hand on his Great Axe
"I would die before I ever even pretended to be a slave"
Then he is silent standing between Brahmah and Flat-Top hand on his Great Axe
Moshushi Friday January 5th, 2007 4:13:39 PM
Mosushi has found the cat that had his tongue.
he bows, then attempts to lead the (most-likley) stronger Jack into the other room. No force will be used, just gentle steering.
Whispers "no one heere is our enemy, and she is not well. Please, friend."
OOC: character sheet and other info will be on it's way tonight. Thanks for the welcome all. Good luck Brahmah)
Conference This Way - DM Donna Friday January 5th, 2007 10:26:22 PM
Purrrta practically preens from all the perceived respect and attention...then promptly nods off again. Meowri silently motions for the party to follow her and leads the way out of the sunroom and into another room--this one looks to be used for an office.
"I want to thank you for showing respect and compassion for my mother." the female wemic tells you all. "Her years as a strong and wise matriarch entitle her to that--and she also thrives on the attention. Now...what is it that you would ask of me?" Meowri looks expectantly at the members of the party.
Jack Stronghooves Friday January 5th, 2007 11:20:24 PM
Jack Looks at Moshushi and whispers back
" I understand this my friend, but you are asking me to do something that I cant do, when you were quiet all that time I stuck by you not asking why but trusting that you would come around and I always respected that about you. You should not ask this of me friend.... but I will try to do anything you may ask my friend the best I can, but not this I am sorry"
Jack then turns his face from his normal cold stone face to the rare smile so little have see and says
"But now that I have you talking maybe we should work on your strength your arms are much to skinny to be guiding me along as your slave."
Then jack is silent and stone again knowing his place between the other fighters of the group hoping his silent skinny friend is not far from his protection.
Winterglade Saturday January 6th, 2007 3:55:45 AM
"We have been brought here by our quest to oppose Vargas the Mad. We believe he is very interested in certain powerful artifact rumored to be hidden in this region. Should he ever get his hands on it the Islands will be thrown into chaos." - Winterglade starts, and then looks at others to continue.
Flat-top Saturday January 6th, 2007 6:12:54 AM
Flat-top tells Jack Stronghooves, "What is wrong in pleasing the Monach? She think that she is in charged and now we'll be getting our infomation from her daughter. Deplomacy is to make the Old One Happy in her late Age! That was all we needed to do! Now we get our infomation, then be on our way to DO Our Business. If you know what I mean??"
Brahmah Saturday January 6th, 2007 8:31:09 AM
"We seek a Black Sword so that Vargas and the Dark One will not reign death and further division on our great taur race." Then he silences himself once more, overting his eyes as a slave might do.
Jack Stronghooves Saturday January 6th, 2007 2:27:17 PM
Jack rolls his eyes and then trys to stand however it is the other two fighters of the group are standing his face down in shame and its not acting

Gecktar follows Purrrta in the other room, bowing a last time before the ancient matriach before leaving.
Now all has been said he adds
"We have been said that your tribe descend directly from the Veiled Queen the last known to wield the sword. Maybe you have information about it. We also know that the Vargas the fool servant of the dark god is looking for it. And wielding it he will have great powers to spread death and chaos. In this we want to stop him."

Clearing the Air - DM Donna Tuesday January 9th, 2007 12:49:53 AM
Meowri shakes her head when she sees how the Chosen are acting now that they are away from her napping mother.
"No, no, you are my honored guests." she tells the party emphatically. "Thank you for allowing my mother her delusions, but Clan Sunsetter doesn't hold with the views of being 'superior' to other Taurs. You need not act as though you are subservient in any way." She turns to the young shaman with you. "Please, Rory...you must have some reason to be here..?"
"It is as friend Winterglade, friend Brahmah and friend Gektar have stated, Meowri: they seek the location of the legendary Black Blade of the Veiled Queen before Vargas can try to claim it...and since your clan is supposed to be of her blood..." Rory's voice trailed off and he shrugged.
"Ahhh...you believe that there may be something in our own history that can lead you to it before the Mad One can get his paws on it..?" Meowri says, tilting her head. Rory nods.
"Hmmm." the de-facto-matriarch hums in a contemplative manner, obviously thinking about something very hard. "The bloodline claims are just that--claims. We have no tapestries to bolster the claims...but..." Now the canny female looks at Brahmah directly, "...there are the rhymes. You know of the Far Plume rhyme, yes?"
"They were told of that one already, yes." Rory agrees.
"There is another one...how did it go..?" Meowri scratches one of her ears as she concentrates. Then her brown eyes open wide and she nods.
"Oh, yes--I remember it now..." she says, "It goes like this:
Names and places Veiled faces Many sins to atone Questions asked About the masked The answers found in stone"
Flat-top Tuesday January 9th, 2007 7:21:04 AM
Listens to the poem but cannot make heads or tails of it. "Zeoll! your a Bard Can you decypher that Poem??" Flat-top as Zeoll.
Winterglade Tuesday January 9th, 2007 8:06:53 AM
Winterglade's tail weaves left and right in a hypnotic fashion, obvious sign that the centaur is deep in thought. Finally he speaks:
"If there is any hidden meaning in the verse that can be understood without detailed knowledge of the region then Winterglade has failed to grasp it."
"Winterglade believes that the stone the verse refers to might indicate some sort of ancient place of signifficance to your tribe. Does any such spot come to your mind, Meowri of the Sunsetters? A monument? A stone atop a burial mound? An altar? An old place of worship? A site somewhere in the Farplume range perhaps? Or maybe a small stone, a stone that is an old heirloom of your people?"
Mosushi Tuesday January 9th, 2007 11:45:07 AM
"perhaps it's redundant, but who are the masked? We may need to know the question before we understand the answer..."
OOC: Did my sheet arrive? My e-mail seems to work fine, except for not sending messages.
DM OOC: I received character sheets from everyone except Toros' player.
Brahmah Tuesday January 9th, 2007 12:35:39 PM
'Names and places Veiled faces Many sins to atone Questions asked About the masked The answers found in stone?'
Repeats the ranger...
"Veiled faces... could refer to a cliff face veiled in vines or fog. Many sins to atone... could refer to taurs as a whole. The masked... hmmm.... The answers found in stone... could be anything, from a stone talisman to a mountain."
He thinks for a moment. "Maybe the rhyme refers to a mausoleum or sarcophagus. It is a veil of stone that masks the answers and it is often a sin to enter one after it is sealed. You might have to atone for doing so. Is there a hidden cave with a large stone rolled in front of it nearby?" He pauses. "Is your honored Queen buried nearby?" He asks grimly.
(Donna, can you please repeat the story of the Veiled Queen?)
Zeoll Tuesday January 9th, 2007 4:53:40 PM
Zeoll cocks his head and concentrates. He tries to derive some meaning from the traditional verse ...
[More later after I have had a chance to ponder!]
Jack Stronghooves Tuesday January 9th, 2007 8:39:02 PM
Jack stands there head still down in shame
"Yeah, I cant think of anything right now sounds like a bunch words to me"
Recap for Everybody - DM Donna Wednesday January 10th, 2007 12:40:26 AM
"I have to admit to never truly understanding the rhyme myself." Meowri tells the party. "I only just remember it because of the Sunsetter clan claiming to have the blood of the Veiled Queen running in our veins."
"Let's see if we can compare everything that we know so far..." Rory adds. "In the ancient days of the taur, there was a wemic rogue named Lachaera who loved a priestess not of his caste. She returned his love, but honored the ways of her tribe and never consummated the feelings they had for each other, instead becoming a shaman of her tribe. In an effort to win the right to mate with her, Lachaera left the island and returned with a weapon that he claimed would help the tribe become the most powerful on the island...a blade of the darkest dark.
The tribe accepted the weapon and, with it, came the rise of the Veiled Queen--the priestess whom Lachaera loved. The tribe dominated the island for generations until, for reasons unknown, the Veiled Queen and her followers faded from the tapestry of time. Some stories say she died from a broken heart after the disappearance of Lachaera soon after her rise to power...other tales claim that she fulfilled her destiny to Tomi...or Domi, if you will...and was spirited to the Lands of Rest by the god himself.
Judging from the description of this Black Sword and its effects, however, I happen to think that the sword itself had a hand in the fate of the Veiled Queen, for often it is that weapons of power develop a will if its own--and anything that has been involved in the murders of countless thousands of people cannot have pure motives..."
DM OOC: yes, it's a cut-and-paste from the bard's tale...so sue me!
"Now, the first rhyme is a teaching rhyme that practically everyone on Wemic Island knows..." Meowri says.
"As the Daystar sleeps As the Farplume weeps Amidst the peaks of same The Nightblade lies As the lover cries Forevermore her name."
She nods, and then recites the lesser-known rhyme once more:
"Names and places Veiled faces Many sins to atone Questions asked About the masked The answers found in stone."
She shrugs.
"I am not good at riddles," she admits, "But I do know that both of the rhymes are supposed to refer specifically to the Veiled Queen. After receiving the sword, the entire wemic culture rose to great heights of accomplishment. It was at this time that all the clans were united under her rule, and the art of preserving history through the weaving of tapestries was created."
"In fact," Rory recalls, "I seem to remember my father saying that some of the bards and shamans he studied with claim that tapestry recording was supposed to be even more sophisticated--there was even a form of picto-glyph writing that was supposed to have existed then...only the Veiled Queen's court got so corrupted that, when the Queen finally disappeared, the art of reading and writing those picto-glyphs was lost to us, and only tapestries or sometimes cave paintings remained."
"Now...the first rhyme specifically mentions the Farplume Falls." Meowri says. "That part of the river is located on one of the highest peaks of the Farplume Range...but it would have been an ideal place for a stronghold for the Veiled Queen. Problem with that, though, is that the only way for you to get there is to climb the mountain--and I don't mean 'climb' as in walking up a sloping trail...I mean 'climb' as in break out the pitons and climbing ropes. Another obstacle you'd have to prepare for is...well, the Farplume Range is host to many creatures that don't like wemics infringing on their home territory...you'd have to make sure you're prepared to meet them."
Winterglade Wednesday January 10th, 2007 3:48:42 AM
"Hmm-hmm. That's a start. We definitely should check that place out. Winterglade will have no problem ascending to the top if the winds are not too severe - after all he is a Windwalker. As for the rest of you, Winterglade has power over stone and could make a series of hand and footholds for you, make the climb easy, at least for minotaurs. But these powers won't be at his call until tomorrow."
"These tapestries and cave paintings you mention... Are there any left? These might be worth looking at, give us a hint of what to expect."
Gecktar Wednesday January 10th, 2007 4:17:02 AM "Yes, it seems that our next step would lead us to the volcano."
"As Glade I can have at my disposal a spells that could help if the wind isn't to hard. But it has relatively short duration, about an hour or so. Still they could help. And about the powers that allow us to shape the stone they could ne benficial at the begining but at last I think it si ice that we will have to shape..."
"I must also know if there is some one that doesn't have protection against hot or cold weather to be able to memorize prayers for their protection"
(OOC: Brahmah I remember now that you offered us a tatoo a while ago. Did Gecktar received it, because Gecktar asked for a Endure Element tatoo if I remember well.)
Flat-top Wednesday January 10th, 2007 5:47:33 AM
Flat-top is thinking about the poems, "I'm not much on riddles but it sounds to me as a long climb to the top. And we all know that centaurs have a hard time climbing. Now here is what I thinks, She is in a Crypt with the Sword." At this point Flat-top shivers, "for a moment there, I felt as if hooves were running over my grave?? But Winterglade I hope you can help me make it to the top??"
Jack Stronghooves Wednesday January 10th, 2007 6:26:59 PM
Jack looks at the group
"Like Flat-Top pointed out us Centaurs arent very good at climbing."
"Also I dont have anything that gives me protection from hot or cold"
"But I really dont get the poem"
Brainstorming - DM Donna Thursday January 11th, 2007 12:44:40 AM
"It's hard for us to see what the meaning behind either of the rhymes may be." Rory points out. "We are living hundreds upon hundreds of years after the Veiled Queen's reign. They provide clues, but only if we can deduce them correctly." He nods his shaggy head Meowri's way.
"I believe that Meowri is correct--the Farplume rhyme hints at where the Veiled Queen's seat of power was once located. Perhaps if you can discover it, the meaning of the second rhyme can become clear."
"You are the honored guests of Clan Sunsetter." Meowri insists. "I would offer you the hospitality of my guest huts if you would take up the invitation. I must tell you, though--Mother sits at the head of the banquet table, and she might think the non-wemics to be servants."
Winterglade Thursday January 11th, 2007 4:27:45 AM
"Winterglade has thirteen Cloaks of Comfort. He can lend one to each of you who doesn't have one. He can take one other taur with him to the air."
"We are grateful for your offer of shelter. It seems we will have to rest and prepare ourselves for the trek to the volcano. How long does it take to get from here to the Farplume?"
Flat-top Thursday January 11th, 2007 6:13:42 AM
"Hmmm! I have a Cloak of Comfort but cannot fly with it. I have three tattoos A protection from evil, on one shoulder. Cure Moderate Wounds, on the other shoulder and Light on my chest! but no Flying. I think I need a potion of flying! Tell me do you have a way station to the Catacombs?? So I can get me some?" Said Flat-top as he scratches his head.
Zeoll Thursday January 11th, 2007 3:09:08 PM
The druid/bard speculates and guesses. Maybe the party should go to the waterfall called the Farplume Falls, then wait for night (when daystar sleeps) and listen for the sound of weeping. Or of someone calling for the ancient queen. When we get there, maybe I can call water and earth elementals to scout the falls and the rock places behind it.
He is eager to set out as soon as practical.
Brahmah Thursday January 11th, 2007 4:07:14 PM
"The Farplume Falls makes sense to me!" Says the minotaur excitedly. "It certainly is a start Glade." "Flying isn't out of the question and spider climbing isn't either. I think, before setting out, we should all re-supply for this. I for one want to get my hands on one of those nice spider cloaks." He looks at Flat-top. "I think the centaurs should too."
"Unless the Sunsetters could supply us with these items, a bunch of those cloaks would be handy. We would, of course, return them or later compensate them. Could the Sunsetters fund this expedition? I think that the knowledge the Chosen return with would be priceless. If we return at all."
(Sorry about lack of post yesterday. This year has been a pain so far.)
Demographics 101 - DM Donna Thursday January 11th, 2007 11:37:20 PM
Rory and Meowri exchange glances.
"Fffiffft is a small village, Chosen Ones," Rory explains, looking a bit embarrassed, "If you wish to visit the famed Catacombs...you will have to journey to a larger town. You can follow the coast in your ship--go north slightly and then east to the trading town of Midport..."
"Or you can trek directly east from here to Nexus, which is an inland trading center." Meowri offers. "Sailing will take you about eight days or so to go to Midport and back again...following the trade route to Nexus will take about the same amount of time...depending on the weather."
"I'm not sure it would be wise for you to delay your search for the artifact." Rory says gravely. "Especially if you know that Vargas is after it, too."
Jack Stronghooves Friday January 12th, 2007 1:20:19 AM
Jack looks at the group and says
"Well If we cant get the It supplys I will take up Wintergades offer of flying or windwalking ro what ever with him and i think I have enough to pay you for a cloak but its up to all you"
Winterglade Friday January 12th, 2007 3:47:58 AM
"More than a week? We don't have that much time. Maybe we should just go as far as our legs can take us, and once we can see what the situation looks like we can prepare appropriate magic."
Gecktar Friday January 12th, 2007 4:45:00 AM "I think we shouldn't delay our trip to the Farplume peaks. If Vargas doesn't know our position he knows that he is in a hurry. And he will not delay his reseaches."
"Even if we progress slowly, we will progress whatever. I think it is wiser to continue and not delay for a so long time."
Flat-top Friday January 12th, 2007 5:39:59 AM
"I like the though of a spidercloak or a few spiderclimb. But most of all I like Gectar idea of delaying the trip! I don't know how I'm going up there, But I'll give it my best!"
Mosushi Friday January 12th, 2007 1:23:48 PM
"perhaps the riddle will become clearer as we draw closer. As far as reachig the peaks, if we can not climb them, that is perhaps less important than stopping Vargas from climbing them first. I agree then, we should go soon. Once there, flying or climbing like spiders seems easy enough."
OOC: Since there are dangerous beasties ahead, I plan on preparing ray of enfeeblement instead of charm person and fireball instead of protection from energy for a while.
Brahmah Friday January 12th, 2007 6:21:08 PM
Brahmah is disappointed. "Your right of course, we must hurry. The fact is we have no time. I just don't like the thought that we will have to worry about monsters and gravity. Falling off a cliff is not a good thing."
Zeoll Friday January 12th, 2007 7:25:59 PM
Zeoll wants no delay.
"Come my frriends! We have morre prressing business than shopping!"
Another Idea - DM Donna Sunday January 14th, 2007 9:54:33 PM
"There are some amongst my clan who know how to climb mountains..." Meowri offers, "...if you would allow me to summon them, I'm sure that they can outfit themselves to help you in but a few hours..?"
Winterglade Monday January 15th, 2007 4:42:26 AM
Winterglade seems to ponder something. "Exactly how high a climb would you say we are talking about here? A few hundred feet? Or is it much higher?"
"Let's pool our resources, yes? Winterglade can take himself and one more by air. That's two. For the rest, well, for the bipeds among us at least, he can make a ladder of handholds and footholds in the stone."
[Donna, I'm thinking of using Stone Shape to create a series of indentations in the rock face. My spell would affect 17 cubic feet of stone. Counting 8 holds per 1 cubic feet it gives 136 handholds total. Spacing one handhold every 2 ft one casting should make a ladder 250ft long. What would be your estimate on a DC of such a climb?]
Flat-top Monday January 15th, 2007 7:00:21 AM
"That's a woderful idea, Winterglade! But that Leaves one to climb. I'm tetting you the next tattoo I buy will be Fly! Thhen I will never worry again about climbing!" Flat-top relates on Winterglades good deed.
This shows that Centayrs are not all Killers! but a good potion of spider climb would also do the trick.
Gecktar Monday January 15th, 2007 7:56:44 AM "Yes ! It is a good idea. Proficient climber will help in our trip." says Gecktar.
We will have to be careful about the one that will come with us. Some divination will be needed. he thinks

Zeoll d20+10=11 d20+10=22 d20+10=16 d20+10=23 Monday January 15th, 2007 11:24:37 AM
Zeoll suggests that if the climb is tomorrow, he can prepare two spider climb spells, each of which will last for an hour.
He asks Meowri how much climbing there may be.
The liontaur welcomes the helpers, and he will make a point of talking with them at length tonight to get to know them.
Sense Motive checks: 11 (nat 1), 22, 16, 23
Mosushi Monday January 15th, 2007 4:43:24 PM
Moshushi volunteers that he has a couple of scroll os spider climb and can also prepare some fly spells. If the climb is tomorrow, he'll prepare 2 fly spells, but notes we need to reach the farplume first
Brahmah Monday January 15th, 2007 10:40:29 PM
"Yes, guides would be nice."
(What does Mosushi do? what is his class again?)
DM OOC: Mosushi is a Ranger/Wizard/Eldritch Knight.
How Big IS a Mountain? - DM Donna Tuesday January 16th, 2007 12:28:10 AM
Meowri thinks hard.
"I'm not the best person to ask about whether your spells will help with climbing the mountain." she admits. "I shall summon my kin who know for sure and they may answer your questions. Excuse me for a moment..."
Meowri leaves for a few moments and then returns with a strapping wemic in tow (he looks to be fairly mature.)
"This is my cousin, Fosdik." she says. "He is fearless when it comes to scaling peaks. He can likely answer your questions."
The tawny wemic listens to the different proposals using this spell or that, nodding as the toes of his right front paw patiently drum on the floor. Finally, after a few moments of contemplation, he has this to say:
"The trek from here to the Farplume Falls will take about five days of work. Most of this will be simply making sure that we have our pitons in place and ropes well in hand--the slope of the mountain is considered to be steep for our kind, but it isn't without natural footholds..." Here he nods at the minotaurs and centaurs, "...or, in your cases, hoofholds. There IS a stretch of smooth, rocky slope where that Stone Shape spell will be very handy for everyone, especially our hooved friends. Normally, without such magic, it would take us wemics about seven days or so to get to the Falls." He looks at the party.
"Shall I fetch my brother? We can help you get to the Falls, if that's your wish? All we would like in return is but 20gp per day..?"
Winterglade Tuesday January 16th, 2007 3:39:32 AM
"Five days?"
"Looks like this trek will take much longer than Winterglade expected. Yes, bringing along help and local guides sounds like a good idea."
"Does everybody have provisions for ten days of travel?"
"When can we depart?"
Flat-top Tuesday January 16th, 2007 8:50:47 AM
"I'm with you Brother Winterglade I'll pay for the first day, Here's 20 Gp." Flat-top hand over the coins, then scratches his head- +Scratch+. Then ask that for the trip up?? od just for the day? and the both of you??"
Flat-top thaes another up the cliff!! "WOW!"
Gecktar Tuesday January 16th, 2007 3:16:18 PM
Gecktar asks for fresh food, vegeteble and fruits. He will spend 50 gold pieces to get enough food for several meals for the entire group.
He sore the fresh maels in his handy haversack that contain much more than it seems.
"Take some rations, but I have sufficient food for each of us for almost 6 days. This will be fresh meals so, perfect for such trip where we will need all our strength."
"In case of trouble I'm still able to create some food, but if nourishing it is not very tasteful."
"Water will not be a problem too."
OOC : a common meal is 3 sp. 8 persons to feed gives 2,4gp per meal. 50 gp gives 20 meals for a little more than 6 days (3 meals a day) of fresh food. Assuming each meal has a weight of 2lbs the entire handy haversack will be full. Purify food and drink and create water rule !!!
Brahmah Tuesday January 16th, 2007 6:46:39 PM
"Fetch what and who is needed. The Chosen will pay what is needed for all provisions and to retain our guides."
"I have 40 in gold on me and 50 feet of silk rope for this cause. You are welcome to the lot. I have commissions at the Catacombs that I can sigh over to the village too."
He heaves a clump of coiled rope and his coin from his gear.
"Should we consider climbing unarmored?"
Zeoll Tuesday January 16th, 2007 7:03:44 PM
"My arrmorr is light and will not hinderr me, I think," says Zeoll. He is glad to see that the group's arrangements for provsions and climbing gear are going so well.
He asks about the possibility of buying better climbing gear here. [OOC to Donna -- can we buy the PHB gear that gives a +2 on climb checks? I'm thinking about the 80 gp climbers kit on page 128 and 130 of the PHB.]
Jack Stronghooves Tuesday January 16th, 2007 11:16:23 PM
Jack looks around and says
" I will do whatever is asked of me and give what need be, I will also climb if I must although for me" Jack looks at his hooves "I would much rather fly or something"
Arrangements - DM Donna Wednesday January 17th, 2007 1:22:10 AM
Fosdik bows.
"Now, now...my brother and I can take care of all the normal equipment and provisions that will be needed. This is included in the fee I named." he says, then nods to Zeoll. "There are a couple of different smiths in Fffiffft that have the deluxe equipment if you wish to purchase it."
DM OOC: my apologies for the "late" post...it's technically still not quite midnight in my time zone. ;D
Flat-top Wednesday January 17th, 2007 6:33:24 AM
"What do you Mean taking our armor OFF? Climb rock and hoof holds naked?? We could really get hurt!!" Flat-top takes another look at the rocks formation.
Flat-top turns to Toros, "Your a wemic! You go first!" he tell Toros.
Toros (Ceil) d20+5=24 Wednesday January 17th, 2007 6:36:21 AM
Toros Smiles, tells the group, "Alright I'll go first, if it pleases you!". Toros will try to climb first.
Climb 24 (the lucky Weimic)
Winterglade Wednesday January 17th, 2007 7:23:17 AM
"Don't count Winterglade when you calculate food supply. He makes his own arrangements."
"Twenty gold per day, about ten days of travel... 200 gold total. This means everybody should chip in 25 gp for the guides, yes? Here is Winterglade's share."
The centaur hands over 25 gold coins.
Brahmah Wednesday January 17th, 2007 4:04:06 PM
"The deluxe equipment would seem to have its place here. We need all the help we can get."
Gecktar Wednesday January 17th, 2007 4:43:53 PM
Gecktar also hands the money for their guides. "It would be nice to have deluxe equipment.
Deal! - DM Donna Thursday January 18th, 2007 12:51:25 AM
Fosdik grins at Toros & Flat-top's enthusiasm.
"No, no--you don't have to climb yet!" he says. "Save it for when we actually get to the mountains!" Then he turns to the others.
"If it is the deluxe equipment you wish," Fosdik says, "Then you should go back to the village proper and seek the two shops--one is a smith named...eh, Smythe. The second is a supplier named Zurg. Between them, they may have enough Climber Kits so that you can outfit your group." The wemic bows.
"You should spend the rest of today preparing, then, and come back here to the clansite so that Shmooey and I can guide you to the mountains and help you climb them We will be happy to accept half our fee then...the rest to be paid when we get back to Fffiffft."
Winterglade Thursday January 18th, 2007 4:51:12 AM
"Hmm, we better be in the open come tomorrow morning. Winterglade won't have much opportunity to clear his head once we are on the trail and will have to ration his powers over the next ten days."
Flat-top d20+15=30 Thursday January 18th, 2007 4:53:04 AM
Flat-top tells Fosdic "Toros and I were just practing to clinb by going up this wall!" The center look to Toros "You can let me down now and we'll go to the Smithie and the Supplier!"
Flat-top jumps out of the hands of Toros, landing on his hooves.
Toros (ceil) Thursday January 18th, 2007 4:58:25 AM
Toros while holding Flat-top hooves listens to what Fosdic was telling then. As flat-top jumps off his hands, He looks strait in the center's eyes "This is the last time I give you a Leg-up for a wall! Now let's go to the Smity and the supplier."
Zeoll Thursday January 18th, 2007 11:07:22 AM
Zeoll spends his time visiting the shop and getting a climbers kit. If anyone else wants to go shopping -- or do anything else in town -- Zeoll will go with, because he thinks no centaur or minotaur should be wandering around alone.
DM Donna Thursday January 18th, 2007 11:50:50 AM
OOC to party: as stated, Fffiffft is a little too small for an outlet of the Catacombs to be located here, but you can buy any standard, non-magical items that are listed in the PHB. Be warned, if you want anything that is masterwork, it's likely to be limited in number. Some items may not be in the village. (An example would be a battering ram--there just isn't much call for one in Fffiffft.)
Brahmah Thursday January 18th, 2007 6:50:38 PM
"Lots of rope, pitons and if possible, extra rations. We don't know if hunting is good in the hills."
Winterglade Friday January 19th, 2007 3:00:23 AM
"Since our guides claim all the standard equipment is included in the price, Winterglade has no shopping to do. He is ready to leave when you are."
Flat-top Friday January 19th, 2007 7:06:16 AM
Flat-top tells Winterglade, "Well just for Ha! Ha's! I think I'll go see these Merchants. I think this is going to be intresting??"
Off Flat-top goes.
Zeoll Friday January 19th, 2007 4:04:40 PM
Zeoll buys climbing gear, an extra cloak (in case it is cold) and some extra rations. He sleeps well with the group (at Meowri's?) ... singing for his supper, maybe.
THe next day he helps shepherd the group to head off with Fosdik and Shmooey.
Mosushi Friday January 19th, 2007 4:34:03 PM
I'll toss 25 gold into the pot.
"flat Top, mind if I join you?"
Assuming it's ok, I'll follow along.
Brahmah Friday January 19th, 2007 7:24:51 PM
*Sigh*
Shopping Trip - DM Donna Saturday January 20th, 2007 12:26:15 AM
Back in Fffiffft, the two different shops named by Fosdik manage to have the special Climber's Kit Zeoll had asked about. Fortunately, there is enough for each of the Chosen to get a kit--everyone who buys one must post that they do so (and please remember to deduct the 80gp for getting the kit.)
Any other regular items may be purchased (don't forget to deduct for the cost of those, too.)
As nobody elected to take Meowri up on her dinner invitation, the party doesn't need to pretend they are servants/slaves at the Sunsetters dinner.
Last chance to post any particular purchases and/or preparations for the mountain-climbing expedition, which starts on Monday.
Winterglade Saturday January 20th, 2007 4:23:57 AM
Winterglade makes sure that the guides have a climbing harness that will fit him. Once that is done he retires for the night, spending it standing in some quiet corner outdoors, gazing at stars and thinking.
Flat-top Saturday January 20th, 2007 6:47:50 AM
Flat-top along with Mosushi and Toros Go get their Kits, Flat-top will try his on to make sure that it fit right and nothing will get pinch! "I'll take this one!" and pays for it."
"How about you Mosushi? Find any thing that fits you?" the centaur ask.
"Toro! I like that one on you! fits nice." he tell Toros.
Toros (sub Ceil) Saturday January 20th, 2007 6:50:57 AM
As Toros tries the kit on, "I think I'll get this one! It feel right in the shoulders!" Replying tho Flat-top question.
Gecktar Monday January 22nd, 2007 3:27:55 AM
Gecktar too purchases a climbing kit. "these should be of great use as I'm not a climber at all. And this armor is cumbersome and will not help. Maybe should I drop it here and recover it later... But I'm not sure...
Oh and I will take this rope. 50 feet will be sufficient. Yes the silk rope" he says to the shopkeeper. "Here are 90 golp pieces for the equipment"

Toros (Sub by Ceil) Monday January 22nd, 2007 7:09:11 AM
"Yes! I have them right here! This harness are wonderful, but why do I have to get the Harness if you have spider climb Potion??" Toros ask Flat-top.
Back at the Village - DM Donna Monday January 22nd, 2007 8:27:40 AM
"...because we don't have any potions in stock." the shopowner(s) interrupt the dialogue between Flat-top and Toros. "Thank you for your business, though."
All of the Chosen are able to get the Climbing Kits from the places in the village (as well as the silk rope that was also mentioned.)
DM OOC: another post will be made later today to deal with starting off on the Chosen's mountain climbing adventure!
Brahmah Monday January 22nd, 2007 2:49:16 PM
Brahmah will happily be the groups mule for rope and kits for the trip... unless Heyoo is willing to heft a saddlebag or two.
Zeoll Monday January 22nd, 2007 4:00:38 PM
Zeoll makes his purchases (kit, rations, rope ... subtracting 100 gp from PC sheet.
He preps two Spider Climbs instead of his usual 2nd level druid spells.
And he is ready to set off.
Mosushi Monday January 22nd, 2007 4:11:18 PM
