K'Nara and Milo manage to pull out a large human male from the gooey wreckage of the worm. He's alive and shivering. He's the only one ingested who is still alive. Amongst the innards are various pieces of flesh and bones, and oddly enough - a fist-sized black skull carved out of black glass.
The rescued man, hair plastered to his head with some kind of snotty mucus, looks sheepishly toward Ve Mundr after thanking his rescuers. "Had to try it, you know? All that talk of black dragons? Adventurer's dream... think of the treas..." his sentence ends in a coughing fit. If Nick checks him over, he finds no injuries as such, he just looks cold and wet, although the mucus smells acidic.
Cori finds a tight, narrow path to the left of the worm. A few sword blows, and Gunther widens up the path to the right, making it easier for the others to follow.
Valdor throws his torch into the room and climbs up on top of the worm to get a better view. In the gloom ahead, it looks like there are another two more of these things, slithering across the cavern toward their position.
As Ve gets through, his sheild, no longer blocked by the bulk of the worm, gives some more illumination. The light catches something on the cavern walls - seams of some kind of dull glittering ore, and it reflects, pushing visibility up even further.
Bertram's dwarven knowledge tells him that the seam is Galena, an ore containing silver and lead. Rich, wide strips ripple through the rock, angling downard.
Everyone now has a good view of the partially lit cavern. It's big, maybe 200ft across and just as high. The floor it it is mostly flat, and there's a large pool at the centre of it, the water there looks as black as ink.
High, near the ceiling in the gloom, at the far side of the cavern - something else glitters.
Three things are immediately obvious - two more of the purple worms, now approximately 70 feet away from the party, comg around the the pond; there is also something smaller at the pond's edge, looks like a humanoid, slumped - either asleep or dead.
((Sorry this is a bit late, guys and gals. everything you can see is in the narrative, but a new map's coming later today.

Moving forward but staying near the left edge of the cavern, the invisible halfling eyes the approaching worms and begins going through a mental checklist of things she's got left.
"Hey Guys and Gals, I need to do a quick drop down near the water, I hope, to set up a little surprise for Lathiese. I will check out who that is down there and report back."
Activating her boots of flying Dahlia moves as fast and quietly as possible, down to where she can see who/what is next to the water, and to activate her remaining 5 clear elemental gems. (water elementals) after giving them orders to seek out Latheise and report back she takes a good long look at who/what ever is beside the water.

Ingrge edges around the now dead worm and moves to where he has the best view of the cavern. Looking for a ledge or opening that might be another way into the space, he ponders what to do about the slowly approaching worms. Pulling out his bow he let's fly with three arrows at the right worm. All three arrows seem a bit wobbly to him as they fly toward their target.

Cori pulls the other wand she has from her pant's pocket and aims it at the two approaching worms. With a single word she sends a marble sized ball of fire in their direction. Through her earpiece she speaks to Valdor and the rest of the group. "I found a smaller tunnel over here to the left. A little too small for a full sized dragon but large enough it looks like for a person." The marble sized ball of fire explodes into a much large force of fire...becoming what it truely was, a fireball.

Dripping with purple worm goop, Gunther grins ear to ear. "Dere's more? Goot! Maybe dis time you'll let us fighters have some fun, eh?" Dispite his jovial tone, Gunther waits for the spellcasters to do their thing, knowing full well what charging in could lead to. He moves back over to K'nara's side, ready to protect her should any danger head her way. Pulling a potion out of his pack, he places it in his glove of storing for later use.

Seeing the others moving in, Valdor moves off to the side away from the worms. He keeps about twenty feet behind and to the side of Ve, waiting for the dragon to show up. With his True Seeing, he looks around and up to make sure all is right with the cavern. He whispers,"Aerelia, if you can keep those worms at bay with your wall, it would keep us from fighting on two fronts. You know your dimensions better than I, but if you can, it would help.

Ingrge, K'Nara, Milo, Olana and Falin draw a bead on the hulking purple worm to the right (# 2), and it's flesh is soon pierced by a multitude of arrows.
As Cori's fireball erupts in the cavern, there's a great cry from both of these beasts, which rattles the very walls and causes the water in the centre pond to shimmer.
Dahlia gets to the water's edge, with Valdor and Ve not far behind her. About 15 feet away, alongside the right-side rim of the pool, a man appears to be lying there. He has sandalled feet and is dressed in a plain, brown robe. He is not moving. Those with 'true seeing' can see that it is indeed a man, and nothing more 'exotic'. The water in the pool appears to smell of old, worn socks.
Both worms are only twenty feet away at this point, on either side of the pool.
Then, just as the halfling is about to prepare her crystals, the scene changes - dramatically - and for the worse.
A massive head shoots up from beneath the pool's surface. Sheets of water splash outward, drenching Dahlia, Ve and Valdor, while two feet with massive claws follow the head and slam down, shaking the entire cavern. From this position it's almost too big to take in, although here it can be noted that there is a metallic sheen on its claws.
Those further back get a better view. The dragon's horns are huge, curling down around his skull-like face. This is a big one - a great wyrm, bringing with it such an aura of doom that it makes everyone's hair stand on end.
All in the cavern - Will Save DC 33 or be Shaken for 9 rounds.
Head, shoulders and front claws out of the pond, Lathiese's scales ripple with muscular power, and wasting no time at all, the great dragon fires out a long, 5 ft wide trail of acid - hitting Ve Mundr, missing Dahlia and Valdor, but hitting Gunther, K'Nara and Nick further back.
59 DAM - Reflex DC 36 for half damage.
The breath weapon is accompanied by an roar that makes the ears bleed.
Apparently empowered, the two worms increase their pace toward Mordrid, K'Nara, Gunther, Cori, Bertram, Milo, Olana, Nick, Aeralia, Lian, Ingrge and Falin. They're only a round away!
The cavern seems suddenly packed with monsters.

Even though he is ready when the dragon explodes from the water, Valdor is still not quite ready for the sight before him. Since fighting Flame, he has never seen a dragon so huge and never has he faced a black one nearly this large.
The huge warrior gathers himself however, silently thanking the spellcasters for the spells, else he would have trouble even standing there. Seeing Dahlia right in his path, he roars,"Lathiese, for crimes against the people of Floating City and so many others, and for killing a good friend of mine, your death warrant is served. Sturdevant sends his best wishes!" And with that massive leg so close by, Valdor takes a step and swings with all his might at the dragon.
After his attacks, he braces himself for what's sure to be coming and bellows,"No hesitation! Attack with all you have got but stay spread out!"

Ve begins to move in behind Dahlia as the water erupts in motion. He suspected the move, but the sheer size of the dragon emerging and the volume of water displaced catches him just off balance enough to not react to the great ACid weapon. Steam and burning tear across the cleric, but he was in motion and his shield was covering his chest. Gargul would not be seeing Ve Mundr at this moment, but the day is still young. [Save 35]
The cleric of Domi recovers quickly, the purple worm's forgotten and all that fills his vision is the great dragon and his mind fills with resolve. [Will save 50] Valdor is already in motion to his left and Ve calls out, "For Domi and Honor." as he steps towards Valdor and points at Laithese. A great black nimbus rolls across his body and focus's to a single beam that lances out and strikes the dragon. Feeling the effects of fear washing over her she steals herself against it and feels it pass with few results. Still she can tell by the torment in her familiars thoughs that poor Amarth was not as lucky.
Seeing that she needs to at least delay for now she pulls upon her powers to create the tiniest of blueish marble in her hand that she points in the direction of the water. She places the sphere of freezing cold off to the side of the water near the dragon and purple worm on the left side. "Hope that is far enough back to not hit anyone else." If placed right it should freeze at least six to seven inches of water and in a large area, maybe more...along with get both creatures in the explosion.

Suddenly rearing up in front of her Dahlia ses the largest dragon she has ever faced before and she begins to feel like she did when she faced her first dragon and begins to shake. Then she feels the calming words of The talon Cleric Brother Bertram as he simply states. for what its worth you have domi's blessing upon you and suddenly she is free of the encompassing fear.

Keeping her boots acivated, Dahlia reaches into her an outside pocket of her haversack and pulls out her last single silver coin (silenced) and then removes a bag from it as well. (both free actions)

Ingrge feels the dragon fear wash over him like none before and feels the urge to run and cower. Seeing that his freinds are in danger though steels his resolve and strengthens his will just enough to remain rooted in place and firm in spirit.
Seeing that Arelia is working on blocking off the one worm, Ingrge has a go at blocking off the second casting a spell. Wall of force- 130 foot wall 10 feet high.
(I don't know the sizes of the worms, but my goal is first if possible to use the water as one side of a pen and pen the worm inside. Or second to make a wall that goes from wall to pond and prevents the worm from getting to us without going all the way around.)

No doubt about it--Lathiese has K'Nara's full attention with his extremely dramatic entrance. Fortunately for her, his aura of fear doesn't affect her ability to dodge the incoming stream of acid. (OOC: natural 20 on the Will save, woohoo! K'Nara's Reflex save is a total of 36, meaning she suffers only half damage. However, just HOW much is that Acid Protection spell supposed to negate..?)
The blade singer advances towards the worms, swapping out her bow for her sword. Someone has to make sure the big purple beasties don't bother the main body of the attack force as they concentrate on taking Lathiese out.

Time slows down as the tidal wave arcs over and comes crashing down near the pond; revealing within itself the nastiest creature the ranger's ever seen. Its fear washes out, and passes thru Mordrid, causing his heart to freeze, but not stopping his mind from knowing what to do next.

He had to be close up,within healing range of his fellows.

Olana is all ready to fire at the worm on the right once more, when the dragon leaps forth, out of the pond. She takes an involuntary step back, speechless and awestruck, and she finds her hands shaking slightly and her aim a little off as her arrows make their way toward the worm.

The cavern is immediately alive with spells, steel and arrows.
Worm # 2 The worm on the right bristles with arrow shafts. Dark oozes drips from it's wounds, but still it keeps on coming. Lian and K'Nara rush up to meet it, and it screeches loudly as the enlarged elf starts pummeling.
In retaliation, the creature opens wide, and attempts to swallow Lian. Chows down for a grip AC 36
Worm # 1 Along it's flank, something spherical and sparkling shatters, leaving a pale bruise, and at the pond's edge the water starts to freeze quickly. The worm shifts forward further, and it's head hits the wall of force like a giant hammer. The whole cavern shakes. At this moment, it is unable to advance further.
Dragon The dragonbane sword ploughs into it's favourite flesh, slicing through scales, and it emits a crazed joy into the mind of it's weilder. At the same time, the air seems to twist and roll over the dragon's flesh, tainting it with the telltale shimmer of necromancy. Arrows hammer solidly into it's upper chest. The creature's roar is beyond hearing, entering the minds of everyone in the cavern, addling the brain with it's expletive of utter rage.
A baleful eye looks toward Mordrid and Falin for a second, but in the mind - You two, first... The massive creature leans forward and reaches out simulataneously, and grabs Valdor (AC 56) in it's jaws, and Ve Mundr (AC 47) in a mighty fist of claws. It is a powerful grip, something less than it was, but impossibly strong all the same.
It shifts backward, and up above Dahlia sees the creature drop below her, shattering the ice, and disappearing into the pond, dragging whoever it managed to grab with it beneath the dark, inky water.
At the water's edge, brushing off shards of ice, the hooded figure starts to giggle.

Mordrid watches the two greatest men he knows get snatched and dunked under-water. Hopefully the water-breathing spell will hold... until the dragon dispells. He can't think of a better team than Valdor and Ve in such a situation. They were made to take care of each other.
With Mordrid's experience, he know's better than heroics, and getting himself killed in a hair brained attempt at diving in and saving the two Platinums. The well being of the total group, and accomplishing the objective (killing the dragon) took priority. And leaving the Talons alone to handle the situation would be a dire situation indeed.
Higher thought prevails, especially when he notices the hooded mystery man (?) express glee at Valdor and Ve's potential demise. That makes him an enemy. Was the figure aiding the dragon? Unchecked, that put the odds impossibly against the Platinums and the Talons. Necromancer? Undead?
"DAHLIA! Dispatch the hooded figure!"

A lump seizes in Cori's throat as she sees Valdor go under the inky water. Her brain seems to freeze and she cannot think of anything but getting to him.
Having taken fives strides in that direction she suddenly remembers her own words to not endanger the group for his sake. Fighting back tears she brings her finger and thumb into a pouch at her waist. She fights the lump in her throat as she strings together the words of power forming in her head, swabing her eyes with her two salved fingers.
She slowly scans the whole cavern with the aid of her newest spell(true seeing) as she contemplates her next move and just as possibly...her life without Valdor. She especially will focus on the hooded man mostly.

The huge warrior knew what was coming...even welcomed it. THIS was what he had trained all his life for. THIS was why he collected so many magic items and such powerful friends around him. He grimaces a bit as the jaws snap shut, thanking again the spellcasters and thinking briefly of Cori and what is going through her head.
Just before going under, he whispers into his earpiece,"Trust me." After they go under, he chuckles aloud, knowing that the dragon will hear him but no one else will hear him talk like this, he says, feigning terror,"Oh no, what will I do? Oh yeah, kill this sorry wretch! Now you will know what it means to fight ME!"
With his freedom of movement, he strikes and strikes at the head of the dragon, the proximity making such an easy target. He strikes with all the love he has for his friends, hoping that Ve will have a means to escape if he has to.

Falin watches as his comrades are pulled down into the icy blackness. Momentarily he curses the fact that his curse was removed. Perhaps there is more he could be doing right now with that extra strength He quickly shakes the thought from his head and resolves that since he can not do anything about an underwater dragon right now he turns his attention to the greatest threat he is currently aware of, namely the worms. He will have to wait with the hooded creature until he knows more about what is going on. Besides, there are several others checking it out.

With Valdor going along with the dragon, Ve is not about to let him go alone and so the cleric does not resist the dragon's might either. Besides it limited the number of people he needed to keep alive. The Black water hits and Ve is glad he thought of the Daylight spell. He did not need it of course, but Valdor did. Now was the time to put an end to one evil dragon. With Dragon blood balsting from the creature's mouth and the Status spell in place, Ve knew Valdor was quite well at the moment.
Through the grace of Domi Ve ignores the mighty grip about him and again summons the black nimbus. The glow pulls into him and becoms a ray more black than the darkess night and slams into the dragon. {Empowered Energy Drain Cast Defensive 32 SR 33 Touch Attack 38 Dmg 10 negative levels}

Startled at the dragon's presence, Gunther is about to give in to the mind numbing fear, but finds some way to resist it. (Will=15, Hero pt.=nat.20) He spots the acid stream too late and is unable to roll out of the way (Ref.=19). He smiles as his spell neutralizes the acid before it even touches, his skin, but in his mind, he knows that next time might be very different. Deciding that now is the time to join in, Gunther gulps down his Enlarge Person potion. As his limbs grow, the warrior chuckles, ready to carve him up some worm steak. He moves into the creature's flank, ready to attack when he has the chance. As he moves away, he flings a quick question at the spellcasters. Aeralia jumps as the dragon bursts through the water, forgetting completely what she was supposed to do when it appeared, instead taking all of her courage to merely resist the urge to flee. (Will Save 16 vs. DC 33, failed. )
Her mind gives a momentary sigh of relief as the dragon dissappears beneath the surface, the sorceress not quite registering that it took two of the Platinum Dragons with it.
Knowing they were supposed to spread out, Aeralia darks forward and to the left, moving until she is in line with the wall of force (having seen the worm hit it). Once there, she directs her movement towards the lake keeping the wall between her and the large worm on the other side.
Once close enough, Aeralia sets her sights on the hooded figure across the way. Chanting quickly, she attempts to conjure a globe of force around the figure, hoping to encase it within.

IN THE CAVERN As the two men and the dragon sink beneath the water, the cavern grows more dim as the enhanced daylight shield follows it's owner into the depths. Dahlia gets a glimpse of something moving as the light fades downward, like seaweed fronds, below the surface. Aeralia gets a rather scary close-up view of Worm # 1 as she passes by.
Hooded Figure: Appearing to be utterly and completely insane, the cackling figure is caught in mid cackle by a full onslaught of arrows and magic. Mordrid's arrows start to hit the figure like war hammers, the blows are that powerful that the figure takes a step back, and another. There's a blinding flash if lightning, and then - three of the ranger's arrows skitter off from their target, and the lightning suddenly curves around a magical sphere. The hood falls back, and what looks like a pale young man sits hard on the floor within the protective barrier of Aeralia's sphere. He looks stunned. Cruel shafts pierce his body and his cloak is smoking.
Nick is correct. The water IS poisonous. Corrupt, fouled with rotting things, and thee's a scent of metal amongst the rot.
Worm # 2: Milo and the enlarged Gunther join in the fray! Ice and fire flash and sizzle at the beasts flanks, and more arrows embed themselves as K'Nara, Olana and Ingrge get to work. In the dim light, the creature looks black; it's blood looks like crude oil. However, none of this is a dark as the creature's maw - a sight VERY evident to Lian as the Worm starts to suck him down into the depths of it's innards (Jay, I think I grabbed him at AC 36 in the last round?) The huge monster's many teeth start to crack under the monk's powerful blows, although it is delivering damage of it's own on the elf DAM 27. The monster's tail also decides to get busy, whipping forward and taking a mighty stab with it's poison barb at the next large target - Gunther! AC 24. It misses, swinging past like a scythe. Colour and light return as Bertram's fire elementals flare into life and approach. It's getting hot!
Worm #1: Falin's elven eyesight enable him to see the other worm, frustrated by the wall of force (save your arrows?), shift and change tack. It's backed off and is starting to head around the back side of the pond.
The Dragon: Lathiese's grip has left both Ve and Valdor plenty of room to manouvre. As they drop, they pass by a horrific sight. Bodies. Dozens of them, dead and rotting, held beneath the water by ropes. Their tattered remains sway to and fro as their sanctuary is so violently disturbed. Further down, it's just rock, water, and the dragon. The surroundings are starting to cloud with the dragon's blood, adding to the miasma of ill that hangs in the water. What to do - breath the water? Or hold the last breath and have it compress in the ever increasing depths? Valdor's sword bites deep, the darkening of the water attest to that, and it's grip lessens a little more as Ve's spell sucks energy from the creature. Claustrophobia is waiting, here. The water starts to feel like mud. And despite the fact that both men can feel the dragon's presence in their minds, Lathiese has yet to speak. (Apologies, Steve and Dan, I still have to roll my damage numbers for the dragon. Please post as normal. I'll get to it tomorrow morning.)

The razor teeth slide against the monks stoney flesh. However, his body will only be able to withstand this for a short while. The monk almost laughs at the fact this isn't a dragon for once. He pounds on the creatures gums, hoping to cause a rupture or to loosen a couple teeth so he might be able to slide free. (Just a reminder, Lian is Large right now.)

Valdor decides to hold his breath for at least one more series of attacks to stay focused on his task(Fort DC 29+2 bear's endurance=DC31-voluntary roll). He figures he has more power with it held anyway(picture a weightlifter...). However, he also knows what kind of danger he and Ve are in and he swings with all his might...over and over, pummelling the beast who has him locked in its jaws. Feeling its grip lessen a bit renews his strength and he finally feels his sword biting as well as it can! Once again, he silently thanks the spellcasters for their enhancement spells as his blades slice through the water like it's not even there.

Falin looks at his first arrow fly and strike the wall of force before he curses himself for forgetting about that. He changes tactics and focuses on purple worm 2. Without the energy leeching spells, this could have been a lot worse.
Eventually, the dragons voice, low but authoritive, enters Ve and Valdor's heads. "I hope you like the cold, my friends. Cold is good, cold is a shelter from.... did you know I killed - ? Ah, but no matter. You have come well wrapped in magic. Don't rely on it."
This communication appears to open some kind of door. For along with the voice, comes a sense of anticipation, expectancy. Those up above in the cavern feel it as well. It's quickly followed by annoyance? Urgency? As though whatever was suppose to happen - hasn't yet happened.

Ve too, holds his breath for now, pushing the images within the water from his mind. Distraction could cost them both of thier lives and personally Ve much more liked the idea of triumphantly surfacing with Valdor than any other scenerio. The dragon's voice enters his mind, odd that, very strange as far as the information goes. The magic comment gave Ve a definative pause in thought, he could think of a couple things that put them in some very real trouble. Ve has no interest in speaking his mind to the Dragon, but tiuurns his thoughts again towards Domi and the powers that were still his to channel. Still a bit stunned over seeing Ve and Valdor grabbed and taken, Ingrge shakes his head and remembers that he is in contact with the rest of the group. "Valdor, let me know if you two get in desparate sorts I will teleport in and teleport all three of us out. By the way that isn't really a request.
Then once he was finished he realizes just how that might have sounded, but has no more time for that thought as Lian was once again trying to be someone's lunch.

IN THE CAVERN
UP TOP:
Worm # 2 - The battle rages in and around the giant purple worm. Blades and arrows slice into its considerable flesh while magic and fire torch and sear its flanks. K'Nara, Gunther and Milo can see that they're making headway, as the flesh begins to split apart. Bertram's fire elementals continue to dance, adding to Dahlia's and Ingrge's searing heat. Inside, past the teeth, Lian finds himself in a dark and warm place. It stinks in here, and the surrounding mucus seems to be acting like a moisturizer in reverse. He can feel the pounding coming from the outside, feel the weak spots, so much so that he knows he can pound his way out. Then - 2 things happen.
1) The worm bursts into flames. The cavern brightens considerably. This is quickly followed by -
2) BOOOOM!!!!! K'Nara, Gunther and Milo have managed to carve slits into the innards of the beast. This has allowed the fire to discover the build up of methane in the worm's stomach, enabling a rather impressive gas explosion. The following heat and kinetic energy are equally as impressive, and just about everyone in the cavern gets a taste of it. The blast makes teeth rattle and the cavern floor bounce hard.
Lian, Milo, Gunther and K'Nara get the worst of it, taking both heat and blunt trauma damage. Fire Damage 24 Blast Damage 40
No save on the fire damage (unless you have fire protection, which should absorb some of it) Reflex DC 30 for half blast damage. Fort DC 25 or be stunned for four rounds.
Further out, everyone else gets hit with the shockwave and potentially, pieces of toasted worm, flying outward at great speed. The forcefield around the injured hooded figure gets slapped by huge chunks of worm meat. Mordrid, Olana, Falin, Aeralia, Nick, Ingrge, Dahlia, Cori and Bertram all get their hair blown back. Non lethal damage 15. No save. Reflex DC 30 to avoid a further 20 damage from flying debris.
Stating the obvious, I know, but Worm #2 is now toast.
In the aftermath, Worm #1 lets out a great roar. This isn't over yet.
DOWN BELOW (in the icy depths) -
Valdor and Ve Mundr continue their onslaught with a deadly dance of blade and magic only epic warriors can bring. The dragon's flesh is severely lacerated, the spells have weakened it. And so far they haven't seen much in the way of retaliation. At this point, questions might be going through their minds as to why. However, there are more immediate matters to take care of.
There's an abrupt, percussive !!WHUMP!! felt in the water by all three. An explosion somewhere? A big one. The light from the shield reveals the sudden instability of the walls, and huge pieces of rock start to break off and tumble slowly down. And some of them look bigger and heavier than the dragon! Is this the end, then? To be buried underwater beneath tons of rock? Might be an idea to -

The atmospheric change in pressure is both immediate and painful. Both the Dragonstone and the Protector of Domi suddenly find themselves about 20,000 feet up in the air. The sunny, morning light is blinding; their eardrums burst, their chests rage, and blood oozes from their eyes. In moments they find themselves falling toward the ground at approximately 120 mph.
Two good things - the view is certainly better, they can see the lake and the hills below through blurry vision, and - the black dragon falling alongside them is not deploying his wings, his grip has slackened to nothing. He's dropping like a stone.

"Why am I dripping with goo?" Falin says kind of matter-of-factly.
As he shakes the bits and pieces out of his hair he turns to see the 2nd worm making its way around the pond. He takes aim and fires upon it.

Valdors only focus is killing this dragon. So focused is he, that he barely notices the concussion from the explosion. He does, however, see the dropping stones and chunks of rock. He's just about to activate his ring when they 'pop' into the sky.
He screams in pain as his eardrums burst. His vision is smeared...why is there a red tint to his vision? Casting those concerns aside, he notices finally after a couple of seconds that the dragon is not moving. He takes a couple of seconds to estimate how much time they have before they hit the ground.
He yells as loud as he can, but it comes out more like croaking from his constricted throat,"Ve, can you hear me? We've got about a minute and a half before we hit the ground! Can you save yourself? I can get out of this with little trouble." He continues to hammer thedragon with his sword, just in case he's faking or just knocked out. He holds his last two attacks to start maneuvering himself out from between Lathiese's teeth if the dragon doesn't respond. His prodigious strength is waning fast, especially with the adrenaline rush fading with the dragon's life force. He's too lost in pain to respond to Ingrge, but with their telepathic bond, he knows they are alive, but hurting badly.

As the violent explosion rocks the upper reaches and the rockwall starts to collapse, Ve looks to Valdor. Nope and didn't think he was going anywhere. Ve mind starts quickly moving through his possible escape routes that would include Valdor, no way he would come back alive without the man. Then the bright light assaults his eyes and his eardrums snap with the underpressure.
Ve's jaw clenches and he slams his eyes shut with a deep shuddering groan. One thing more than near anything else he hated was a pain within his head. Then his mind drifted to the Status of the others, some of them were just recently hurt quite bad, but they were all still alive. Not that he could do much from here, but he could alleviate any concern Valdor might have and with that he looks over and opens his eyes. His vision was blurry, but with the full helm and all he could do little about that right now as well. But speak he does, "Valdor? Yea, I'm still with you. So this is dragon slaying?"
"I have a Status spell on the others, a few are hurt but none overly so." Ve disengages from the dragon and pushes himself away to fall into space along side of it. "As for the matter of the approaching ground, I can handle that easy enough."
Ve then looks about him, "Recognize anything, I'm a bit put off old Laithese did not seem to want to do anything but get us through that portal we just went through. Surely he could not have thought just popping through and dropping us would really be endagering?" As Ve speaks he reaches into his Haversack and extracts his carpet of flying. "once we make sure he is actually dead, I have a ride unless you want to pop back more immediate like."

Valdor replies through gritted teeth,"I suspect he was planning to kill us under water, but between my damage and your spells, he wasn't prepared for what we did to him. I don't expect he thought we'd live that long. The water was poison and he wouldn't have known we could fight underwater the same as above.

Ve just smiles at Valdor. He produces a small cube from his Haversack and presses a side. The air that moments ago was rushing by him is now completely held at bay by the cubes power. Ve then unfolds the carpet in the falling cubic force enclosure. Once on the carpet he activates the rug and begins slowing his fall.

The large monk doesn't get much of a chance to prepare. He sees the orange/purple light, unmistakably a fire from the outside of the worm, then the explosion. A mass of worm and monk fly through the air, then OOF! against the cavern wall.
The monk stands up, ichor hanging off him, his red blood mingles with dark ooze from the worm. He struggles for a breath or two. Singed, he looks around for something else to attack.
He sees the other worm and moves toward it, healing himself as he moves. (Wholeness of Body healing 18)

A hail of parts pelt the poor form of Cori as she finishes her spell, though she is able to keep a hold upon the magic. She winces as all the damage comes to bear upon her friend and familiar Amarth. She shrugs her shoulders and gives him the ok to take to the air. "Valor." The last is a whisper as her form slips into that of a ghostly image of herself. To which she neatly dives into the water, leaving no splash or anything to place her passage.
Amarth takes to the air in the cavern and comes to land further back in the cavern so that he can watch. He is hoping that this will put him further from the fighting and danger for now.

Nick was climbing to a height so he could send down a Flame Strike on the approaching worm. Being a natural klutz, he gets smacked pretty hard by the blast. While he's catching his breath, he hears Mordrid and changes tack.

He then glances over toward the pool.

Thinking he was far enough back to avoid the fallout damage, and not having learned how to dodge chunks of worm goo when the big baby goes and gets himself blown up, Ingrge is literally pelted and pounded by purple pieces of pulverized putrescence (reflex DC 26). By the time he gets back up and wipes the biggest chunks off his once white robes, he can already feel the healing magic of Father Nic coursing through his body.
It is then that he is hit with the images and painful thoughts from Valdor and he nearly hits the floor again. Sensing No immediate need to teleport out to the rescue, the doughty elf, moves forward to where Mordrid is standing, and then speaks out so all can hear. "No more fire on this next worm all. Dahlia feels herself flying backwards, tumbling through the air from the force of the Worm Blast and and actually has a harder time dodgingthe worm remains than she would normally because of her current flight mode. Reflex DC 34 and the ringing in her ears was nearly deafening, Though perhaps her being up in the air helped alleviate much of the force of the blast.
Using her boots Dahlia flies to where she is above the second worm, draws her swords and prepares to drop down upon it. Through the ear piece she contacts Mordrid. "Mordrid, I am above it, with swords ready, all set up for a topside assault at your word."
It is then that she sees Cori dive into the water.through the ear peices she sends "CORIALOTE, Have you lost your mind? Get back here! Valdor may going to kill you for disobeying his orders. AND I know he will KIll you if you get yourself Killed! And if he doesn't I WILL!"

TOPSIDE:
As Valdor and Ve Mundr work on getting their speed of descent slowed down, Lathiese keeps on falling at terminal velocity and lands below them with a **THUD** on the hillside.
The huge skull-like head is cracked in two, the body flattened. It's fluids are already beginning to irrigate the surrounding grass and mountain flowers. Even in death, Lathiese is a fearsome monster. His jaw lies open, taunting anyone to come near. There are no carrion eaters lying in wait, and nor will there be. Instead all eyes, such as there are, stare up at the two men. What are these creatures, who could kill such a beast? Birds take flight, beetles start digging, rabbits duck back into their burrows, as the men descend. Gunther's cat is out there, and chooses to stay right where she is, beneath a large prickly hawthorne. The only anomaly - a small silver dragon with ragged wings, flying in haphazard loop-di-loops above the lower tree line. Her voice is in the mind - an over-excited whisper -
Battered but unbowed, the remaining Talons and Platinums close in on the last of the great worms. The cavern walls reflect back what little light there is from it's seamed, glittering walls, revealing the dark purple behemoth, it's flesh twitching in utter rage.
Bertram, Olana, Milo, Aeralia and Nick can feel the ground vibrate as the thing slides toward their comrades. They also can see that the hunched figure inside the magic sphere has fallen to one side, is lying immobile on the ground, and that a small dark object appears to have rolled out of his hand and onto the ground within the sphere's protective realm.
Amarth has done his companion's bidding and has flown to the back of the cavern. He's found a shelf high up. There's not much room up here because of all the piles of small shiny red things, but there's enough for a perch. He's distracted for a moment, and pecks at one of the piles, after all, a bird such as he likes to collect such things... shiny, sparkly - A sharp vibration as the worm heaves itself forward toward it's foes scatters one of the piles, sending some of the gems skittering down to the cavern floor, and Amarth turns his head just in time to see the worm rear up and -
Gunther, K'nara, Lian, Ingrge and Mordrid are directly below the thing as it rears and gives out an ear-splitting roar. And as if the sound and smell accompanying it wasn't quite enough, Falin's arrows hammer home and the thing lets out another one.
Up above, Dahlia gets a close up view of its knobbly flesh before it dives forward and opens wide.
This time the target is Gunther, and the worm attempts to chow down. The light from Mordrid's sword gives the orc-raised human a good view of massive incisors and lots of small teeth beyond.
CHOMP! Hits AC 31 - and misses! It's jaw snaps right in front of Gunther's nose!
Down under the water's surface, Cori is greeted by a mournful sight. Corpses in various stages of decay, sway in water so recently disturbed by the rockfall. Of course a black dragon liked to do that, soak his food for a while, let it rot. This was a larder. The water was tainted by the decay, and by something else.

Wearily, Valdor levitates down beside the dragon. He can hardly focus his eyes. Suddenly, he remembers the others and says in his earpiece with a strained and very unsteady voice,"It...is... finished."
He puts on his ring, too weary to walk, and hands it to Ve to teleport back to the group. He pictures the entrance to the cavern about twenty feet back from where the saw the first worm and 'poof', they appear back behind the group. He barely can stand, the strain of the altitude change, his burst eardrums, his chest contracted then expanded...it is only by sheer force of will that he can stand.
With blood still dripping from the corners of his eyes, he stumbles forward, swords in hand, but really just used like a cane to support his weight.

Ingrge curses a bit as he "sees" Dahlia settling in above the worm right in the way of his next planned spell. So instead he wades in between Gunther and Mordrid staff wailing and at each swing you can see the magical energy pulsing through the staff.

Ve puts on the ring to attune himself and go with Valdor. "Valdor, Alemi and Domi have been companions and friends for a very long time and they both care about others." Valdor activates the ring and the two appear in the cavern. With a thought, Ve channels Domi's power of healing into Valdor. {Cast Quicken Heal}
With the rest of the group finishing off the Worm and Valdor healed, Ve moves to the small sphere and the man inside it. For now Ve will leave the sphere in tact and try to asertain if the man inside is alive or dead. {heal check 27}

Aeralia is buffeted against the wall of force by the explosion, which she leans against heavily as the invisible sorceress attempts to shield herself with her arms against the incoming debris. (OOC: Reflex 22 vs. DC 30, Failed)
The young sorceress stands slowly once she's recovered from the impact, and slowly moving towards the water, one hand on the wall of force, she moves until she reaches the invisible walls end (stepping briefly in the water if she must).
Once around it, Aeralia wearily makes her way along the edge of the pool, towards her Resilient Sphere, and her detained prisoner within.

Cori's eyes search the area for signs of Valdor and Ve, not knowing that they are already above the water now and inside the cave. She cringes a little at the sight of the bodies and then glances around some more. There was something else her, something that she cannot put her finger on. Her fingers go through the movements and though she does not need to breathe in her current state she intones the words that will call upon more of her powers. "It feels as if something else is down here, maybe something in the water or something else." Her eyes scan the waters for anything that lights up like a candle in her new enhanced vision.
Amarth cannot help himself but gathers a nice bright shiny to himself. He keeps a hold on it all the while that the stacked pile is shaken and falling apart. He figures at least he will get something out of this to remember this fight by.

((OOC - sorry, folks - Mass Heal - a bit more clarification - heals normal hit points up to 250 - and Nick, at level 21, has a good range of 75 ft. The pond and the worms were initially about 70ft away, so I figured I'd managed to get everyone, with the exception of Amarth, Valdor and Ve Mundr. Don't forget, as mentioned before - poison and stun are negated, too.))
Nick gives out a sigh of relief as his two comrades re-appear in the cavern. He squints in the gloom from his position over by the pool, trying to determine their condition. He knows Ve has more than enough capability to heal both of them, so he stays focussed ahead (with what's happening with the worm kept in the corner of his eye).
"Cori," he says into the earpiece. "They're back. Now will you please get out of that rancid pond." Could she hear him? or was her current form preventing any communication.

The fight continues with the great worm, and the enormous beast thrashes as its hide is pierced by both arrow and blade. Without the cauterization factor offered by fiery blades, the creature's blood and copious stomach fluid spurts and oozes forth, covering everyone in melee range. It's a dirty, smelly job, but someone has to do it, and the combined might of Platinum and Talon bring the thing down VERY swiftly. There is a final **WHOOOOMP** as the worm's head hits the floor. The entire cavern shakes, the pool surface skitters, and a sound like many tiny objects clattering to the ground can be heard coming from the rear of the cavern.
Amarth has to take flight as the many shiny red things start to flow off the edge of the shelf.
Underwater, the dead sway back and forth, reacting to the vibration of the fallen worm. Cori realises there is nothing alive down here - merely rocks, bones, and tainted water. There was something perhaps other than rot spoiling the water, but it wasn't anything magical.
Aeralia approaches her sphere and is joined by Ve Mundr. The young man inside the magical globe looks to have died of his wounds. Some of the arrows in his body have pierced right through, like skewers. The man's hood has fallen back. He looks pale, sickly. The hair on his scalp is tufted and sparse, and his skin is a bad colour. He looks as though he has been suffering from ill health for a long while. Next to his hand, a small white rock, carved into the shape of a skull sits there on the stone floor. It radiates magic.

As the mighty worm collapses, Mordrid sheaths his sword with a circular flourish.
"Is everyone on there feet?"
Immediately the ranger begins to march on a path that bisects the pool and the hooded figure. He's looking at the man, but speaking to no one in particular, "Ok you big ox. 'It is done' so you can go ahead and come back up now." The concern is audible in his voice.

Valdor basks in the warmth of Domi's strength and magic coursing throughhis body. He lets out an audible sigh when the magic subsides and he isreturned to the reality of their situation. He still looks awful, the trails of blood down his face from the corners of his eyes being the most telling. He quickly forgets those, however, and quietly sneaks up behind Mordrid.
He pinches Mordrid's rear and says,"Ox? I'm wounded to the core. You got to sit back and shoot arrows at purple worms, while Ve and I did the hard part. Nothing more than a little target practice for you, but we get dragged under water, chomped and squished like a little ball, taste the nastiest water ever seen on this Wold, have our eardrums explode and chests almost cave in from the extreme depths he took us to...it's really nasty down there, by the way...only to pop back intothe air several thousand feet up, then fall all the way back down to the ground. My eyes even bled. I'm lucky THEY didn't explode. And you sit here humming your favorite tune, occasionally taking a shot here and there.
I tell you, there's just no justice in the Wold these days. Nick, talk to Alemi about that, would you?"
He then grabs Ve and gives him a bear hug and says,"I am glad you went with me, my friend. I would have died today if not for you. You have my thanks, iron man of Domi.
He then says,"All of you spellcasters...you were awesome. He wasn't prepared for what we did and he lost because of it. You Talons, remember this well. We won today, not because we were superior to him and his creatures, but because we were prepared and he was arrogant. We will be retiring soon, and one day, you may face Parnoth. Be prepared always, no matter who or what you face. It saved lives today."
He turns to search for Lathiese's treasure with his 'true seeing', but stops. He turns around and says,"Who took out the man next to the water? I think he was supposed to cast something for Lathiese and the dragon was surprised when he failed. Something happened where he couldn't cast, and I'm not sure, but I think it completely screwed up his plans. And..." his face turns white,"where is Cori?"

Nonetheless, the halfling rogue is happy to see that everyone made it through the battle in one piece... more or less. The worm falls and the Talons are reunited with Valdor and Ve. Then K'Nara finds herself on the receiving end of Gunther's embrace. She grins and kisses him soundly.
"Have no doubt, Valdor," the blade singer vows, "The Talons will face Parnoth some day, the Emerald Kingdom shall become all the better for it." Upon hearing him ask about the man by the water, K'Nara turns and looks, nonplussed.
"Did anyone ever find out for sure if this man was, indeed, working with Lathiese?" she asks, then squints at the white skull on the ground near the stranger's body. "Why...that one there looks like the mate to..." Now she rummages in the top of her Handy Haversack, "...this one here! It was in that first worm--only this one is black instead of white..." She holds up the black skull she had picked up earlier.

Aeralia frowns as she comes towards her magical globe, feeling somewhat sad for the sickly young man within her sphere, but also confusion, and disappointment in her companions.

Cori comes floating back out of the water having found nothing in it. She has suddenly gotten rather worried and though she could hear the others she was not able to reply. The only thing that made her feel a lot better was the fact that Nick had just told her that Valdor was back...with Ve of course. Her ghostly form heads in the general direction of the gathered group, searching for that infuriating man.
Amarth is still flapping gently in the air, trying to find a new place to settle. He has not relenquished his hold upon a gem that he has in his talons.

Valdor watches Aerelia with interest. He sees her dismiss the globe and says,"Oyiluk...that's why he couldn't cast his spells for the dragon."
He looks at the young lady who is obviously troubled and says,"It is good you have compassion and concern. However, this one was evil beyond anything you may have seen before. And, yes, he was allied with the black dragon. Although you are right to not rejoice in his death, if you will take a short swim, you will see what these evil monsters did to living people below. It was the most disgusting sight I have ever seen...and I've seen a lot in my travels and battles.
There are several dead bodies down there decomposing for lunch for the dragon, and you can bet that he helped with it. The water is putrid and poisoned because of it. I feel pity for this man too, but not because of his death. He chose his course and that is the result. I hate that this man was not strong enough to be good at heart and found evil instead. That is what I feel for him.
Our lives are not easy ones. There is nothing fun or enjoyable about killing, and life should always be revered. We never take enjoyment out of fighting...we only do what we must to protect those who cannot protect themselves.
Yet, even with the knowledge that my homeland is safe again, and even though one of the most evil, foul, powerful, wretched beings in the Wold is now dead and will trouble Floating City and its children no more, I cannot rejoice, except that noone in our group died here today."
He has a sad look on his face, the pain is obvious. He and Ve killed a monstrous black dragon that could wipe out a good sized town by itself. The darkness inside him from the pit whispered promises of untold power and conquering. He should be exultant with the victory. 'Such feelings are beneath you', it says.
After a moment of inner struggle, he says to noone, but aloud nonetheless,"Be gone darkness. Leave me be. I will listen to you no more." With that, he banishes the darkness from his soul. He sheathes his sword and sits down to rest, finally at peace, and waits for his new love to emerge from the depths, knowing in his heart that she is okay.

Ve does his best ot return the vise like hug from Valdor and manages to wheeze out a reply, "I could be no where else, but your cracking ribs friend." With Valdor letting go, Ve pulls off his helm and gives him a wink and a smile. "Next time we'll take the little ones and let Mordrid handle the dragon though."
Ve drops to a knee and looks over the little man on the ground. Ve searches him thoroughly for any other clues about his person. To the conversation taking place about him, Ve has no comment. He certainly would not say anything to under cut Valdor in front of these younger heroes. After his search Ve gets up and moves back to the water.

Making himself useful, he walks around asking everyone - Talon and Platinum alike, if they're okay, if they need any healing.

"My geology might be getting a little rusty with all this adventuring," he offers gruffly, "but I think the veins in the rock are of a particular ore." He throws up the piece of rock and catches it again. "A good source of silver - and lead. Lead's poisonous. Can drive even the stoutest dwarf mad, so lets not go drinking any water hereabouts, eh?"

While everyone gets cleaned up, patched up, healed up -
Ingrge's alertness and suspicion brings him to focus on the small, white skull on the ground. There is powerful dispelling magic wrapped around it, still active and waiting to be triggered, and it has Mordenkainen's signature all over it. K'Nara's black skull carries a whiff of spent magic, a fading aura of domination and monsters. Searching the body (after the sphere has been dismissed), Ve Mundr discovers four magical rings, a magically charged staff, and a pouch containing spell componants.
Falin peers into the pool. It's dark. Are there faces down there? It's almost as if - and then the water ripples as Cori's ghost rises from the depths.
As for the treasure, it appears that Amarth the raven has hit the jackpot at the rear of the cave. Rubies. Rubies scattered over the floor, as though they have fallen from somewhere above.

String at the white skull for a moment Ingrge rushes back forward at K'nara's comments about the skulls and Ve's searching of the body near the skull.
"Ve, K'nara and the rest of you. Please move back for a moment and don't touch that white skull. That skull has been charged with a very powerful disjunction spell that could possibly drain ANY and EVERY magical item we have if it goes off."
As the others move back, he moves a bit forward to look more closely at the skull, (without touching it) to see if it is in any way a current danger to be triggered or if it is unstabe in any way.

Valdor returns Nick's hug gently, unlike the one he gave Ve only moments ago. He looks with concern into the now-old-man's eyes. Hearing Ingrge's words, Valdor backs away quickly from the immediate area. He's mainly concerned about his sword and armor. He mumbles,"I guess that my guess about him was right. Such a waste of life and talent."

Cori slips back into her elven form as he feet touch the stone floor. She nearly throws herself into Valdor's arms as she leans her head upon his shoulder. She cannot help it as she breaks down into tears. She is only dimly aware of anyone asking her question but cannot bring herself to talk just yet.
Amarth on the other hand is having the time of his life as he skips across the mountain of gems that he has found. Each one as red as the rest and to his notion right now...all his. He realizes that he will soon have to give them up but at least he can claim them right now. He is making a rather nice amount of noise though and bound to draw attention as he skitters around in the gems, not to mention the occassional squawk of pleasure.

Noting K'nara's displeasure at the worm guts, Gunther pulls a small piece of cloth out of his bag and saturates it with his waterskin. Then he gently cleans the goop off of K'nara's face and any exposed areas of her arms. He then sets about flicking the larger parts of worm guts off her armor. Humming a happy orchish tune about death in battle, Gunther can't help but smile. They had defeated the enemy, everyone is safe, Ms. K'nara was more beautiful than ever (especially covered in worm guts!) and there was doubtlessly mountains of treasure to be looted. Life is good.
Hearing a large commotion in one of the corners of the cave (Listen=20) Gunther lazily looks up to see what might be causing the disturbance (Spot=12). Hmmmm..that's odd...the drow's elf seems to have a rather large ruby in its mouth...wonder where that came from....

"Disjunction? Nasty stuff that is I hear." Ve moves back from the waters edge and to the white skull once more. "I don't have intimate knowledge about the spell though, only hearsay. Perhaps when Cori is less busy she could shed some light." The cleric smiles in the direction of Valdor and Cori at that and then steps a few feet back as Ingre moves about the object. Ve does not jump back or even hurry really. As long as no one was messing with it he felt comfortable around the object. With Ingre moving about it, Ve stands about 4 feet away "We should certainly keep this and study it at greater length."
Ve looks over at Valdor and nods his agreement to that statement of a waste and then furrows his brow. Something did not sit right. "We were too deep for this item to touch us when the dragon hinted at such a tool in his arsenal."
Ve glances towards the raven's squawking, "I believe Amarth has found the hoarde. Brother Betram, are we relatively safe as long as we do not drink the water or could the air be contaminated as well and the longer we stay the greater our danger." Ve's eyes then shoot back to the 'sickly man' on the floor and his voice shoots into a tone of authority.
"Everyone out! Now! The treasure is not going to run off and we need to relieve ourselves of this location."
Ve begins by moving to Valdor and putting his hand to the small of the mans back and whispers, "The mage was not insane or sick until he was brought here."

Aeralia listens to Valdor's explaination, still a little confused, but feeling a little better about her companions again.
She blinks however at his last statement, not realizing his inner turmoil, still thinking he was talking to her. She moves to leave him be, and the investigation of the dead wizard to others, doing her best to keep herself together.
To take her mind off her thoughts and feelings, and still feeling the pain of her bruises, the young woman slips a wand from her belt, tapping it lightly on herself several times, enjoying the healing energies as they wash over her. (OOC: expend 5 charges of CLWs, made all the UMD checks above)
The sorceress will follow if others begin to leave the cave at Ve's command.

Nick glances toward the sickly-looking dead mage on the floor of the cave as the others discuss what to do about their own safety. He doesn't know much about poison metals. All his expertise is based mostly on what grows out of the ground, so he'll defer to Bertram's experise on this one.

A further examination of the the skull, and Ingrge discovers a kind of esoterical lock, as though the presence of an extra componant is required to trigger the spell. Water. So - providing the thing is kept nice and dry, it's just a small ornamental object.
Brother Bertram tugs his beard and frowns at the dead mage on the ground. "I don't thing we're in any immediate danger," he says to the others. "Lead poisoning builds up over time via ingestion. Gunther's eyes move toward the sound at the back of the cave. It's dark back there, but he can just make a small shape hopping back and forth, high up on a ledge. With the hopping comes more sounds of tiny object dropping to the ground below.

"What, now, Bertram...no chicken-fried worms for dinner..?" she asks with a grin. Then, hearing and seeing Ingrge's ruminations over the unused skull, K'Nara nods to the elf.
"Think you that we could use that skull sometime in the future..?" she proposes. "Or do you feel the thing is too dangerous?"

Valdor hugs Cori tightly...nothing was taking him away from this moment. He says,"Let's get what treasure we can find, divvy it up and get home. As long as he's been around, he should have quite a load and it will go a long way towards easing the suffering of the people of Shanty Town in Plateau City. It will feed quite a few elves in Emerald Kingdom for a long time, as well. And, not to mention we'll soon be retiring..."
He keeps an arm around the diminuitive Cori and basically carries her with one arm as he heads to the back of the cavern where Amarth is having fun.

After deciding the skull is safe to pick up, Ingrge carefully wraps in cloth and places it in the bottom of his haversack as far away from any water as possible.
"Well it seems that skull is already to go except for one small detail. It seems that this particular device is triggered by emersion in water. I expect that sphere you through up Arelia, save Valdor and Ve quite a bit of trouble. Had that gotten into the water as was intended, all the spells that we had put on them and perhaps all their magic items might have been rendered powerless."
Turning to K'nara he continues.
"Useful? Perhaps but only if we are fighting something that goes in the water that has an abundance of magic. Who knows?"
"I say we gather up what we can and head out of here. We have been away from the Emerald for long enough. Who knows what other evil Parnoth has been up to in our time away this time."

Mordrid looks at Valdor, and they connect for a breif moment. Something was bothering the ranger. He steers wide and clear of Aerelia.
The ranger begins filling a bag full of treasure for the Talons; he would be retiring soon and would not need the wealth. The Talons however would be needing upgrades.

Ve nods to Bertram, "Very well I defer to your greater knowledge in this, but we need to get moving none the less." He did know more on the subject and was a dwarf, though the cleric found it a foolish to not leave the area because they couldn't smell anything. Ve gathers the rings, staff and spell components and then moves to the treasure to assist Mordrid. One way to get them out was to remove the reason to stay.

"Now that you brutes have finished off killing this poor dragon and his buddies, get your behinds back here to the castle.
"I have the way too many chefs in the kitchen. There's already been one fight over seasonings. I have a priest from Wardd here now in case I need him.
"What? Oh, not to you. There's a dwarven chef here I don't know who just kinda showed up. He says to cut some dragon steaks to bring 'wit ya' so he can 'grill em'. Whatever that means.
"We've prepared some purple and blue wines here and that new bartender at the Debate Club....Goranit? she's that minotaur lady? Well she's in there very anxious and nervous so be nice to her Mordrid!
"You know that purples need their air, but blues must be served quickly. She'll be in a tizzy if you spoil any.
"This is a dress occasion. So wear your best! For the truly brutish among you, that means no armor, side weapons only if you must. Gowns, party suits, glitter and gold! I've taken the liberty of ordering three outfits today for each of you. I've also assigned dress quarters for everyone that doesn't already have a residence here.
"Drinks will be opened in two hours so grab that treasure, get back here, and get yourself cleaned up.
"BTW, dignitaries will be dropping by afterward to congratulate the Talons. Sturtavent is coming. That chick that's the Overlord of the Floating City is coming too. Is she still overlord? Sorry, but I've been avoiding all that kind of thing lately.
"Oh, and you'd better be warned about this one. Sturtavent nearly insisted that Parnoth be allowed to enter with him. Lucky Wardd, but I hate politics!

Cori leans into Valdor having gotten herself settled and is now smiling over the whole thing. Then all her revelry is broken by a very insistant voice in her ear. "Party...dressed up?" She looks to Valdor and shakes her head. "Did he say politics...I hate politics." Muttering to herself about how they just cause trouble and you need to straighten out everything all the time, you can catch bits and pieces. "Good thing I have a few good spells left...maybe I will take my fireball wand with me."
Amarth comes fluttering back to land upon her shoulder, a gem clutched in his beak and his talons. He looks rather happy with himself as he looks to his Mistress.
Cori shakes her head as she looks to Valdor. "I am going back to the surface...it will take me a few to set up the teleportation circle...but I should be done by the time the treasure is gathered." She moves off, heading to the surface to set up her circle and save the group a little time. She would have set it up in the cavern but not with the possibility of dragon magic around.

After that, he'll help with the treasure. "Anything evil in those items?" he asks Ve.

Valdor and Cori head up into the daylight to set up the teleport. The view is magnificent. The lake below shines like silver in the sun.
Everyone else sets to and collects the treasure.
This involves some climbing, for the dragon's collection is mostly on a high shelf at the rear of the cave. And on this shelf - rubies, nothing but rubies, hundreds and hundreds of them, all piled in heaps, glittering in torch and shield light.
From the dead wizard, four rings, a spell componant pouch, and a staff. The staff is sentient, and is looking for a new buddy, chittering away in the mind of whoever picks it up. It speaks of despicable things; unmentionable things.
Out in the light, those able to see well in the dark find it hard to adjust for a minute or so. But the air is fresh, the group is alive, and perhaps a little more well off than they were before.

"However, I know of a tailor who can actually make you something nice in buckskin. Done properly, it will look good and not strangle the living daylights out of you."

Before she starts her spell, Valdor tells Cori, "You'll look fabulous, I am sure. He was meaning that they had to invite Parnoth, because politics dictate that if we did not, it would be considered rude and probably offend him. We won't be having any politics involved tonight, I hope.
I am a bit concerned about the Talons understanding the wieght that they will be carrying after tonight. To some of them, the Wold is their little island. They don't understand yet, that there are many consequences that come with being a Dragon group, and that sometimes... well, I ramble. Hopefully, they're up to the task. I'll let you do your work."

Ve fixes the Staff with his gaze and assaults the object with his near indomitable will. You will be silent! Looking to Nick, he answers the question with a small nod, but not wanting to attract attention, he stows the staff through his pack straps and continues with the rubies.
Ve finds himself nodding to the voice of Onrad that only the Platinum group can hear. Ve surveys the group and then looks to K`Nara and Gunther after thier brief exchange. "We have 2 hours, I hope she sews very fast." Ve looks to the rest and repeats a portion of Onrad's communication, "We have to be cleaned, polished and diplomatic in 2 hours from now. So we are leaving very shortly."
With that quick announcement Ve, having already filled is Haversack, pulls out his flying carpet. "I can give any a ride who don't wish to Climb out." A whisper to Valdor then, 'Valdor, the Talons should be told about Parnoth before we leave.' He wants to say more on the matter, but believes the leader of Platinum Dragons can easily enough grasp the reasons and the less he says the less chance of being overheard.

Looking more than a little gun shy, Gunther prays that whether it be K'nara's seamstress or someone else they can make him some comfortable clothes. During the whole trip to the surface, he is more than subdued as he is literally terrified of being in such a large social situation. All the high and powerful people that are going to be there...somehow he never understood that part of the deal when he agreed to try out for the Dragon Consortium. His mind is filled with absolutely horrid scenarios in which he says or does the wrong things to the wrong people and creates international issues.
Moving a little closer to K'nara, Gunther whispers in her ear. "I don't suppose de kitty vill be allowed? It's been so long and I miss her so much." Gunther is almost overwhelmed with the urge to travel straight back to there castle and barricade himself in his cat enclosure.

The ranger makes for the surface without another word to the rest. His mind was far ahead and far-away.

K'Nara smiles at Gunther.
"I'm sure we can think of something, love," the leader of the Talons says, "After all, you've got that wreath of yours, don't you? If not, I'm sure we can get someone to cast a spell to communicate with her. She's quite an intelligent cat--once the basic circumstances are explained, I'm sure she'll be able to attend in some way." She glances Ve's way.
"The buckskin suit I have in mind was actually commissioned a while ago." she tells the cleric. "Besides, if I'm not mistaken, the tailor has a few spells to do the last-minute alterations."
K'Nara continues to smile--it's been largely forgotten by most that she possesses a silver earclip that is attuned to the communications between the Platinum Dragons...it was presented to her by Greymaulkin himself. She knows already that Parnoth will be at the celebration--but she will not let it bother her, for the party is to celebrate the Talons' hard-won accomplishments.
...besides...it would be rather interesting to see that old green lug's reactions tonight.

While woking Falin is able to put two and two together from everyone talking. A diner party? It had been years since he had been to a formal occasion.
He mulls this over for a few minutes until he hears that Parnoth was going to be there. The elf's face flushed red with anger. "Parnoth is invited to something such as this? Isn't he the bad guy?" Falin asks, but in his mind he thinks I wonder if he knows where my sisters are? It has been decades since he took them.

Cori continues to move with Valdor, not an inch of daylight being allowed to show between the two of them as they walk out. She only reaches up for a second to slide her goggles into place against the bright light. "I can have a portal ready in say ten minutes time." She moves off to start and set up the circle, laying out the necessary line of sand that will contain the spell. Setttling herself she starts the simple, well for her, spell that will set the magic within the sand. Though she hangs onto the last thread of the magic so that it does not activate yet.
With a smile playing across her face she answers Dahlia through her own earpiece. "Well, that depends on how close you are to him at the time...if he should happen to lose control of his stomache, I would think something green just in case...if he is just going to turn green or red than plan accordingly." She gives a smile as she is speaking out loud and not too far from Valdor at the moment. "I am thinking about basic black...with just a hint of rose trimming it." In fact she already has a dress that will meet the need at home in a trunk...in fact the dress she just mentioned. Moving over to stand by Valdor she drapes her arm over his shoulder and with the earpiece still tuned in. "And my love...exactly how much flesh is it appropriate to show at one of these functions?"
Amarth has since dropped his two jewels into a pouch that Cori has set up for him. He is all too happy with himself but is pulled up short as Cori speaks to him. "You know my dear Amarth...those will have to be checked...I will not have you keeping evil jewels in your nest again." He flutters his wings and cocks his head to the side as if in denial.

Valdor replies to Cori,"My dear, modesty doesn't seem to be in your vocabulary, but...we don't want to steal any attention from the Talons. This is to be their moment. I wish you could have been there when Mordrid and I became Dragons."
He waits until everyone is up top with the bulging sacks. He then addresses both groups and says,"My friends, my companions, this a monumental occasion. You must understand that there are politics involved, unfortunatley, that demands the invitation of Parnoth to this ceremony. Of course, this will give you an advantage over him. Knowing you are not just our acquaintances, but our friends and now members of the Consortium, he will have to be careful in the way he carries on his dealings with you. He knows that he now not only faces you, but all the Consortium, should he strike at you unprovoked. So I would guess that you will have less trouble out of him for a while, at least. There are smaller fish to fry, if you will.
Anyway, please dress to impress and armor will not be needed this night. This night is meant for you to enjoy and I will have anyone's head who tries to take that away from you...including the green lizard. This is a time for reflection and foresight. If you thought your lives have been changed by other events, well, this one event will be a dragon compared to a mouse. And Gunther, your hunting partner will be welcome in our castle. I know you will explain to him the importance of behaving. Shall we go?"
Valdor then whispers into Cori's ear,"Not that a lack of modesty bothers me, mind you. Wear what you think you will look best in my dear."

Gunther smiles at K'nara, knowing that he has the smartest woman in the world. Looking a little more relieved, Gunther positively beams at Valdor's invitation for his kitty. "She vill be thrilled...and of course she'll mind. She's a goot kitty...just a little playful." Gunther follows along with K'nara, ready to get fitted for his clothing for the big event.

The monk stands by in contemplation. Everything is about to change well beyond simple things. Remaining small and humble is going to be impossible now and any training school I start won't be a quaint one, I'm sure. He thinks. The Tower will be a hub of activity from this point on.

On the hillside he takes in the view and breathes deeply. It was nice to be back in the open.
