Are We There Yet..?

Ain't No Mountain High Enough - DM Donna
Monday January 22nd, 2007 11:44:54 PM

The Chosen get all the normal supplies that they need and prepare for the next day.

When the morning light just begins to touch the sky, the Chosen find themselves at the Sunsetter clansite. Waiting for them are two wemics, obviously related thanks to similar dark brown coloring on their mane-like heads and the tufts of their tails.

"This is my brother, Shmooey," Fosdik introduces his sibling. Where Fosdick is a bit taller, Shmooey is the more broad of the two. Both of the brothers quickly make sure that all the Chosen are properly in their harnesses and that the packs of supplies are distributed amongst the group. They lead the party across the plains at a good trot, coming upon the foot of the peak they intend to climb.

The Sunsetter brothers demonstrate their technique and strategy, climbing a bit and then sinking pitons into the rocky surface of the mountain, then securing the rope that the party members will use to scale the slope.

Each member of the party must roll a d20 five times. (Try not to get a 1 on any of the rolls! ;D)

Brahmah greets the brother and begins the climb.

He let the two brothers check his gear and ready his package.

"Now it time for climbing isn't it ?"

Winterglade
Tuesday January 23rd, 2007 7:11:24 AM

Winterglade appears at the assembly freshly from his run. The centaur suspects there will be no place for him to replenish his spellpower anywhere on the mountain, so he tries to prepare for all possible dangers to come [standard spell selection, but Air Walk twice and Stone Shape thrice].

Winterglade is not particularily enthusiastic about having his movement limited for the next five days, but he saves whining for later and grabs a firm hold on the rope.

[I will Take10 on Climb checks, please. My result is 8, should be enough to climb a rope with a wall to brace against (DC5). If the rolls are for something else please roll for me.]

DM OOC: you need to give me 5 rolls from d20, please.

Zeoll  5d20(2+9+14+5+14)=44

Zeoll thinks about using his spider climb spells, but he decides to save them for emergencies. Those only give him an hour each anyway, extended.

His 5 d20 rolls are 2, 9, 14, 5, and 14.

Climb Every Mountain - DM Donna
Thursday January 25th, 2007 12:53:05 AM

The Sunsetter brothers are very good at what they do, aiding the other Taurs in the party's ascent of the foothills of the range. Unfortunately, Brahmah, Jack, Zeoll and Winterglade need all the help they can get, as their combined gracelessness slow up the climb considerably.

"At this rate," Fosdik reports a bit ruefully, "The climb up will take seven days instead of five..."

However, the party breaches the hills and continues on into the higher reaches of the mountains proper. The only one who doesn't need the ropes is Heyoo, who happily "gallumphs" along as the Chosen laboriously scale the mountain. The entire group makes grateful use of Winterglade's casting of Stone Shape along one particularly steep plane of stone.

On Day 5 of the climb, Shmooey helps the last of the Chosen up from the latest angle conquered by the mountain-climbing group. Everyone can see that they are now on a relatively level part of this mountain. After a quick meal, Fosdik leads the expedition ever northward, through thick forest that is blanketed most of the time with mists of clouds that turn to rain every now and then.

Everyone in the party must make a Survival check versus DC25, the result of which will be announced...that is, if anyone actually makes the check.

Winterglade is glad to actually be able to walk on level ground for a while.

Brahmah looks on with a little pride as his young bear friend makes the climb effortlessly. "Good job Heyoo."

Early into the climb, Brahmah would have checked the weather and prepared for it accordingly. (Sorry it wasn't mentioned earlier)

Discovery! - DM Donna
Friday January 26th, 2007 12:11:33 AM

Thanks to the sharp eyes of many of the Chosen, the party discovers a mostly overgrown foot trail that leads along the slope. Centuries of use compacted and eroded the soil such that centuries more of abandonment has still been inadequate to completely obscure it.

"Wow...I never noticed that before." Fosdik admits. Shmooey's shrug indicates that neither did he.

The party follows the track up the hill and is able to look down upon the valley below--and quite a sight it is:

A rope bridge that is who-knows-how-old crosses a chasm that drops away many hundreds of feet to a river far below. At the northern end of the chasm are the magnificent Farplume Falls. It's obvious that it's been many, many years since anyone has come this way, and the bridge looks to be in serious disrepair.

The members of the party need to roll Spot checks versus DC25 and tell me what their PCs intend to do now.

Winterglade  d20+4=5
Friday January 26th, 2007 3:21:38 AM

[Spot 5]

Winterglade walks up to the end of the bridge and looks at it sceptically. "It was probably designed to carry the weight of a fuzball, but us centaurs could easily break it."

He grabs one of the ropes and, just to see if the bridge is worth anything anymore, shakes it violently to see if anything will fall off.

Then he takes a look at the chasm. How wide exactly is it in its narrowest place?

Flat-top  d20+6=20

Flat-top does not likr the look of the rope bridge, but will ask Winterglade "In what shape are the ropes??"

Spot 21

Taking one look at the bridge, even the least experienced climber would not to fate wit this crossing place.
"Uh, yeah. I think I'll just save the trouble and jump right into the river right now." He chuckles, "Is there anywhere else?!" He asks the guides.

The ranger makes a sudden grab for his bear who seemed quite willing to cross but was grabbed by his scruff before he could. With a snort and *THUMPHF*, the young bear slumps to the ground, awaiting punishment. Much to his surprise, however, Brahmah hands him a chunk of... something, that he happily yums up in a hurry.

Gecktar take a look at the path they just discovered. "I like this. This passage has been made by taurs... Let's see where we are going"

Later approaching the bridge. Gecktar fill uneasy.

"Maybe we should rely on our powers Glade.

We have to take a rope to secure the path. Maybe two. I will cross the bridge and inspect it to see if it is secure."

"Do we have a rope long enough to cross the gap ?"

Zeoll  d20+10=13
Friday January 26th, 2007 4:17:25 PM

Zeoll tries to figure out the width of the ravine. He also tries to figure out how deep it is.

He keeps his eyes open -- Spot check 13 -- but sees nothing special.

"With a spiderr climb, one could climb down, acrross, and then back up, maybe? I have two prrepped."

He asks Mosushi, "Frriend, can yourr magic shrrink a perrson? A small taurr would not weigh enough to wrreck the brridge, I think."

Toros - Tunc
Saturday January 27th, 2007 2:53:55 AM

Dear All, sorry for not being able to post earlier, real life issues, but I am all right.

Ceil, thanks a lot for subbing Toros. I would be grateful, if you could continue until I come back. Hope you enjoy it.

The peak time of my real life issues is over. Still, I guess it will take a bit more to normalize, however, I should be able to resume posting within 1-2 weeks. Then, I hope, as soon as possible, I will be able to provide some more satisfactory explanation and return to regular posting.

Take care,
Tunc/Toros

Sure, I 'll do it. BUT is Tunc safe in my hands??

Flat-top
Saturday January 27th, 2007 8:21:37 AM

"Shrink A Taur?? Why did I not Think of that one?" Flat-top tells himself. Then to answer the question of the rope "Oh! Yes I have a rope, a silk rope 100 feet long? I think?"

Dimensional Math - DM Donna
Sunday January 28th, 2007 12:15:00 PM

Fosdik points out that, while using a Spider Climb might be nice, the bottom of the valley below is almost a mile down. The bridge is approximately one hundred-fifty feet long.

Suddenly Toros points to something on the other side.

"Hey...what's that over there?" he asks. At first, nobody can discern what he's pointing to, since the forest growth is all over the landscape. However, now that Toros is pointing it out, one part of the other side of the chasm looks to be a large mound--one could almost say it resembles a vegetation-covered pyramid of sorts.

And it's definitely on the other side of the chasm.

Everyone in the party must make another Spot check versus DC12.

Brahmah  d20+13=25

*Sigh*

"One Chosen at a time I think. I'll go first. I'll make sure the other side is safe. Then follow me, lightest taurs to the heaviest. That way if the bridge collapses, more Chosen would be across." He grimaces. "Sorry."

Winterglade  d20+4=11

[What kind of large pyramid are we talking about here, exactly? Large as in a building or large as in a shambling mound?]

"Captain, get that rope and tie it to your belt. Winterglade will do the same with the other end and walk the air beside you. Then we will repeat that with everyone else. Hopefully, if the bridge fails, Winterglade will still be able to haul you to the other side."

[If others agree to this strategy Winterglade will use up one Air Walk.]

Spot 26. Zeoll peers closely over at that pyramid.

If he sees no threat, he'll cross when his time comes, with a rope tied around his waist, after Glade gets to the other side and secures a rope there.

If he sees a threat, he'll cast an extended Summon Nature's Ally II to call a dire bat. That's a two round casting time.

Moshushi  d20=20
Monday January 29th, 2007 2:19:01 PM

Sweet. Spot is 26, with a natural 20.

Assuming I see nothing wrong, I'll wait to cross, while mentally reviewing Fly and what he knows of swimming.

Brahmah

Securing Heyoo with Flat-top, the minotaur prepares to head across.
"Wish me Warrd's Luck?" He thinks about the coins in his pack with Warrd's face on both sides. Oh boy. He heads for the bridge after tying the rope to his waist with multiple knots.

Gecktar approves the solution given by Glade.

"I hope you will be able to sustain it while walking on the air. I'd never try this..."

Crossing Over (Subbing Cayzle)
Tuesday January 30th, 2007 7:09:36 AM

[OOC: DM Donna has had a loss in the family. I'm sure all our thoughts and prayers are with her and Ceil. I'm stepping in for a little while to keep the action going.]

The Chosen look carefully at the bridge and conclude that it could support the weight of a single taur safely. That means only one person can cross at a time, unless anyone has some other bright idea.

Brahmah and Winterglade test this strategy, with a rope on Brahmah and Winterglade Airwalking next to him. That works, and now those two are on the other side.

Flat-top
Tuesday January 30th, 2007 7:48:05 AM

Not liking what hes about to say next, swallows the to Winterglade, Alright! Let's hold hands" The he slowly clops along to the other side.

Winterglade holds Flat-top's hand and, for added security, his collar, too.

"All right, let's get this crossing over with."

[How tall is that pyramid? Taller than trees?]

Brahmah  d20+13=29 d20+12=26
Tuesday January 30th, 2007 9:04:57 AM

The minotaur stares at the pyramid/ziggarat structure and is suspicious, as always, at the odd site. He draws his swords and waits for the others to cross. He is on guard.

(Spot 29 and Listen 26, favored enemies centaurs +4, humans +2)

(Is there an obvious walking path from the bridge to the structure? If so, he watches that area carefully.)

Ya know, I think we skipped an obvious step.

"Fosdik, Shmooey, do either of you know what those pyramids are? Or who might have built them?"

Toros (sub by Ceil)
Wednesday January 31st, 2007 7:04:23 AM

If ever a Liontaur could tip toe across a unsafe bridge, Toros did just that.
When he had cross to the other side, he tell all "See! Weimics can do this all by himself!"

But unknown to Toros, Winterglade was holding on to toro's tail! (winterglade has a little smile on his face.)

The Danger Below! (Sub Cayzle)
Wednesday January 31st, 2007 7:29:23 AM

The vegetation-covered pyramid is big -- building size. Maybe the biggest building you have yet seen on this Isle. But it is hard to tell, given the mists that shroud it.

The chasm is about 50 to 100 feet wide, but is only 40 feet wide at the narrowest place, where the bridge is.

When Brahmah crosses, it is clear that the bridge is in very bad shape. The minotaur's feet break through the rotten wood planks several times, and Glade's able assistance is invaluable. With the bridge in clear disrepair, the next person to cross will have to make some checks (unless you can think of some way to make the crossing safer!

Every person who wants to cross, make a Dex check vs DC18 to keep your balance. If you fail that, Str DC14 to catch yourself. If you fail by 2, Winterglade will catch you. If you fail both checks by more than 2, you fall!

For now, Flat-top, Gecktar, Toros, and the guides are the LAST people to cross. That let's them off the hook for posting for the next day or two. That leaves Mosushi, Jack (if he posts), and Zeoll to cross now. Brahmah is on the other side already (though he damaged the bridge in crossing, it was safe enough for one trip). Winterglade is in the air.

As the crossing continues, everybody please make listen and spot checks vs DC30. If you make it, then Please Highlight to display spoiler: {You detect some movement in the underbrush on the other side of the chasm.}

Winterglade
Wednesday January 31st, 2007 10:00:07 AM

[No chance to make the Listen/Spot check.]

"Hmm, looks unsafe. Looks like another job for Winterglade."

The centaur kneels by the cliffside and puts his hand on the rock. His eyes closed in concentration, he begins to whisper an old prayer. The cliff under his hand starts to ebb and throb, as if liquid, and then a stone arc shoots out and spans the chasm right next to the bridge.

"There. It should serve the future visitors, too."

[I'm thinking of using Stone Shape to create an arc-like bridge. Winterglade can affect 17 cubic feet with a single casting. This should allow him to make the arc's cross-section an inverted triangle that is one foot wide and more than a half foot high. The arc would be slightly convex (I calculated its length as 50ft ) to help distribute the weight of walkers evenly. This way everyone would have a one foot wide stone surface to walk on, with the ropes of the bridge nearby to hold with hand, and with Winterglade assisting with the rope.]

[Air Walk 70 min]

Zeoll  d20+2=10 d20=1 d20=16
Thursday February 1st, 2007 6:21:43 AM

Zeoll is very nervous about the crossing. He is not the most graceful of liontaurs. He ties a rope to himself and then to a tree so that if he falls, maybe he'll only slam into the side of the chasm 30 feet down instead of falling hundreds of feet to his death.

Then he summons an air elemental (extended SNAII) to help him navigate the bridge. He will instruct the elemental in its native tongue to also help Jack and Mosushi and anyone else who is crossing.

He makes sure everyone understands what he is doing so that there are no surprises.

Rolls: Dex/Balance check: 10 fails!
Str/Grab check: 1 fails!
Reroll with Hero Point: 16 makes it! Woot!

Stuff used:

The Fight at the Chasm - Round 1 (Sub Cayzle)
Thursday February 1st, 2007 7:54:25 AM

The stone support gives a +2 on crossing checks. So does having Glade at your elbow. So does the air elemental. That's a total +6 on checks.

Jack makes his crossing. Even with the help, he stumbles but catches himself. He makes it across.

Zeoll crosses and stumbles too. For a moment it looks like he is about to fall, but with a heroic efort he catches himself He can move off the bridge with no further checks next round.

Also next round, ONE person can try to cross. Dex DC18, Str DC14, and you get a +6 on checks (if Glade spends the round helping you. Otherwise only +4).

Brahmah sees three giant lizards! He takes a step forward. His bear is with him. The lizards are as big as Brahmah, with huge jaws full of sharp teeth. They are on two legs and look kind of like mini-T-Rexes!

Friends, we are in combat. Try to post every day. If you do not post, you do nothing. Here is a map of the battlefield.

"Toros, go! Try to keep them alive! Winterglade'll be right with you!"

Zeoll finishes crossing (move to S8). He tells his Air Elemental to help anyone who is crossing. Then he sings an inspirational song:

Oh, Domi, grrant us fearrlessness!
As we fight in this wilderrness!

Perform 29 -- "Well," thinks Zeoll, "the lyrics are kind of lame, but the melody works very nicely!"

OOC: Everyone gets +1 to hit and damage due to being inspired.

Brahmah casts Speak with Animals.
Looking at Heyoo he says, "Stay back, avoid them."
And to the dinosaurs, the ranger says, "As for you bloaks, I know your looking for food, but we'll leave a bad taste in you mouth friends. We want no trouble. Go! Now!" Brahmah doesn't blink or make any violent acts toward the beasts, he just stares them down. "There are more of us than you. Step off. My herd is bigger!"
(Wild Empathy 8, nat 1,(plus or minus whichever bonuses or penalties) miserable attempt, but I had to try. Trying figure out what their plan is but I'm pretty sure I know. :))

OOC Notes:

1) It takes two move points to walk five feet on the bridge.

2) Friends, I do not have your PC sheets, so it is REALLY IMPORTANT that you post your current hp, ac, and other relevant stats every single post! Look at Winterglade, Zeoll, and Jack for good examples! PLEASE make this a priority! Oh! I DO have Toros's PC sheet! He has AC23 and 70 hp.

THE CHOSEN

Winterglade airwalks to H8 and casts Air Walk on Toros.

Mosushi wants to cross but Zeoll is in the way. He must wait for Zeoll to move first (uses delay action).

Jack charges to 14AD and attacks with his axe! Note that minotaurs, unlike the four-footed taurs, have a 10-foot natural reach, so Jack does not need to move closer to Lizard 3. Jack's charging attack hits for a hefty 23 hp damage. [OOC: Jack, you're doing fine!]

Gecktar moves to D10 and casts Air Walk on Flat-top.

Flat-top heads off across the chasm, air walking easily. He gallops up next to jack, but he cannot attack this round.

Toros, also air walking, follows Flat-top, but he takes a more careful double move.

Zeoll can only make it to Q9 with a single move. Zeoll sings his inspirational song.

Mosushi, right behind him, gracefully makes it over the bridge and to its edge -- and draws a wand as he moves.

Brahmah casts Speak with Animals, tells his bear to back off, and tries to calm the attacking dinosaurs. Unfortunately, the minotaur's lack of experience with the big reptiles is telling, and he fails to deter their attack.

THE DINOSAURS

Lizard 3 takes a five foot step forward and rips at Jack with the talons on his feet, his foreclaws, and his toothy bite! Ohmigosh! Rolls of 1, 2, 4, and 10 all miss, and a nat 20 fails to crit! Wardd, god of luck, has smiled on this Chosen of Domi for now! Jack is scratched for a mere 3 hp damage!

Lizard 1 races toward Toros and pounces! Toros is AC23 and has 70 hp. The dinosaur makes five attacks, and he is even luckier than Jack! Not a single blow lands on Toros!

Lizard 2 pounces on Brahmah. Five more attacks (AND I do not know Brahmah's AC!): AC13 is a miss; AC21 hits for 17; AC21 for 4; AC22 for 6; and AC19 for 8. Brahmah, please post which ones hit and total damage!

And the map!

Since no one is trying to cross the bridge, Zeoll will direct his Air elemental to attack a lizard. The air elemental moves to AA10 with its 100 ft move and perfect flight. With flanking and inspire courage, it slams into Lizard Two, hitting AC19 for 5 hp damage.

Zeoll, still singing, moves to Lizard 2 and attacks. The Air Elemental gives him a +2 flanking bonus. Zeoll hits AC24 for 14 damage.

Move another 5 feet forward.

I'm optimistic so far, but alarmed by the absence of fire beetles biting big lizards. Luckily, I can remedy that. Put another way, summoning monster (using wand), putting it right by lizard #1. The beetle can bite vaguely in it's direction, hitting an ac 12 (I think. 9+1 from bard, +2 for flanking, if applicable). In the unlikely event he succeeded, he does 4.

[OOC: The dinosaurs are AC16. They have a touch AC of 10.]

Mosushi delays as he waits for Zeoll to move.

Jack takes two huge chunks out of Lizard 3 as he swings that great ax of his. [Inflicts 44 damage, total 67]

Winterglade moves to W14.

Brahmah slices his target (Lizard 2) with four telling blows. [Jay, I'm adding your damages as 13+10+26+6 = 55 total. I don't know why you think it is 72. Please correct me if I am wrong.]

Flat-top does his best to encourage Jack. Ceil! You can attack RIGHT NOW! Go ahead and roll an extra attack next round to make up for the miscommunication. Sorry! I'll apply the extra attack to tomorrow's post.

Toros backs up five feet and throws two spears. He inflicts 19 hp damage to Lizard 1.

Gecktar attacks Lizard 1 with a spiritual hammer. It inflicts 8 damage.

Zeoll and his air elemental come up to help Brahmah with Lizard 2. Together, they inflict 19 hp damage to Lizard 2.

[OOC: Mosushi, I have two sets of orders for you: the scorching ray and the summoned beetles. I'm using the ray now and I'll use the beetle tomorrow, unless you post otherwise before I do. In general, please give only one set of orders betwwen DM posts ... or if you do, state that the second set replaces the first set.]

Mosushi scorches Lizard 2 for 17 hp fire damage, aiming right between Zeoll and Brahmah! And he kills it! As it dies, it cries a hideous plea of pain!

THE DINOSAURS

Lizard 1, disengaged from combat, attacked by magic, and very close to the magic fire, turns tail and runs away into the jungle, wailing in dismay.

Lizard 2 is dead.

Lizard 3, enraged, wounded, and fixated on killing Jack, attacks again. This time it is the lizard that lucks out! Jack is raked for 44, scratched for 5, and bit for 7. That's 56 damage total!

Dino Status: AC16 (10 touch)
Lizard 3 has lost 67 hp.
Lizard 2 has lost 91 hp -- DEAD.
Lizard 1 has lost 27 hp.

Toros gets a chill down his back when he wonders aloud if there are any more of those in the jungle.

Meanwhile, it takes three rounds to get Gecktar and the two guides across the bridge. With Toros and Winterglade helping, plus the stone reinforcement, the Dex Check vs DC18 and the Str Check vs DC 14 gets a +6 on rolls. (Zeoll's Air Elemental pops out of existence before it can help.)

Fosdik (Str12, Dex16): Makes it over gracefully.

Shmooey (Str10, Dex16): Makes it over gracefully.

Both seem a little nervous about it though!

Gecktar, please make your own rolls!

Any other actions during these three rounds (Toros and Winterglade are clearly occupied)?

Then, you feel a slight vibration, as if a huge block of stone had fallen onto the earth a long way off.

Mama Lizard (Sub Cayzle) (Round 10)  d20+10=21 (mama fails will save)
Thursday February 8th, 2007 11:21:12 AM

First, let me spell out exactly how time has flown by!

Round 1 (Feb 1) -- Zeoll crosses chasm. Brahmah spots 3 lizards.

Round 2 (Feb 2) -- Mosushi crosses over, Jack attacks.

Round 3 (Feb 5) -- Lizard #2 is killed. Lizard #1 flees.

Round 4 (Feb 6) -- Lizard #3 is killed. Glade casts cures

Rounds 5-7 (Feb 7) -- Gecktar, 2 Guides cross over.

Rounds 8-9 (also Feb 7) -- Curing, look at bodies, hear vibrations.

Round 10 (Feb 8 TODAY) -- Mama Lizard spotted.

THEREFORE NOTE: Glade, you have not had time to cast 5 CLWs on Jack nor 6 CMiW on Brahmah! Glade, please reconsider your healing spells cast in rounds 8 and 9! Brahmah and Jack, please pay close attention so that your current hit point scores are accurate!

AND NOW THE TURN~

Brahmah takes a coupl;e steps onto the path, and asks his bear to scout the woods. But the bear has no time to go far when the Mama Lizard appears!

Jack follows Brahmah.

Mosushi looks at the bodies and for tracks. He sees some clearly! They head off in the direction from which the Mama Lizard is just now arriving!

Gecktar wonders what else the jungle holds. It takes only a moment to get an answer ... it holds an angry Mama Lizard!

Winterglade readies for combat (Please feel free to specify the spells you cast in rounds 8, 9, and 10).

Zeoll, like Winterglade, suspects that danger is about to arrive. The bard readies a Fascinate.

Flat-top also braces for a fight.

Toros is ready with his Magic Missile wand.

THEN the Mama Lizard pokes her head over the scrubby trees and looks down on you! Zeoll's readied Fascinate kicks in, and the Huge Animal cocks her head to listen!

The Mama Lizard is Fascinated. If the party does anything aggressive or threatening, including moving toward her, the Mama Lizard will break free of the effect. If the party does nothing aggressive, the Mama will listen for four rounds.

Feel free to NOW post four rounds of actions! Give your actions in order so that if the Fascinate is broken, I'll know what you did first.

And the map!

"Do nothing to upset Zeoll's spell. Keep moving. Heyoo, come here."

Brahmah will move at top speed, toward the pyramid, for four rounds.

"Get to the structure! We'll be able to climb or get inside it. Move, move."

"Heyoo."

From here on Brahmah moves without speaking.

Moshushi

OOC:I'd like the DM to help me out with something. Moshushi knows more about magic in the Wold than his player does. As i understand it, casting spells on the lizard would break the fascination, but not if someone else was targeted, particularly if it has no obvious effect, right? Also, I don't believe that casting a spell on a bard disrupts his singing, correct? It's really mostly a question about the DM, I think.

If Mosh is unsure of himself, or knows that my interpretation is wrong, and he sees Brahmah running, he follows.

If Mosh knows the answers are yes, then: Moshushi sees everyone starting to run away from the big lizard and Zeoll standing there singing, and he feels bad for him, as he'll be eaten.
"Let me allow you to fly," he'll say, touching Zeoll and casting Fly. he'll then run after the rest of the group

Mosushi, the rules for Bardic Fascinate say that "Any obvious threat, such as someone drawing a weapon, casting a spell, or aiming a ranged weapon at the target, automatically breaks the effect." My personal interpretation is that if you turn your back, so to speak, and cast a buff or heal on a willing friend, the fascinate will be unbroken. Fair warning: Another DM might disagree. But for this fight, you can cast the spell on Zeoll with no ill effect on the fascinate.

Jack, regarding those heals, why don't you repost after Glade. I'll delay my DM post for you to do so, up to midnight Friday night Wold time.

Gecktar
Friday February 9th, 2007 3:12:45 AM

Gecktar, surprised by the coming of the great lizard, lokks at Zeoll when he begin his chant.

Listening to his captain he agrees and rushes after him to close the pyramid and try to get some cover.

Winterglade
Friday February 9th, 2007 4:33:59 AM

[Let's clarify the healing first:

1. It seems there was no time to heal Brahmah. He still has 6 damage.
2. In rounds 5,6,7,8,9 Winterglade was helping three people across, but I hope there was enough time left for him to cast CLW two times on Jack.
3. In the first three rounds of fascination Winterglade turns his back on the lizard and finishes off the healing of Jack - three more CLW, so all spells inclusive Jack was healed for a total of 54 points.]

[Last round of fascination:]

"You all get out of sight! Winterglade'll try to draw it away from us!"

Winterglade starts to walk up in the air until he finishes near the treetop [AE3]. He does his best to estimate the reach of the jaws and claws of the beast, then adds a good 15ft to it, and that's the height he would like to be at.

Once it is obvious the bardic effect has expired and the lizard will start to look for blood the centaur will do his best to draw its attention to himself - whistling, shouting, shaking the branches of the tree, breaking off some of them and throwing it at the lizard.

Should that work he is going to draw the lizard away from the party to the North, along the chasm, staying out of it's reach all the time, and once the group has put a good distance between themselves and the thing he will leave it on one side of the chasm and circle back to find the group.

Flat-top Ac 22 106 / 106 hp
Friday February 9th, 2007 7:26:59 AM

Flat-top seeing that the Captain is running towards the pyramids "Oh! Well! The Captain say's run, then I run."

Flat-top will run at top speed, trying very hard to be behind Brahmah to protect his back. If there's any trees or low rock in the pathway. He'll jump over them all the way.

Toros
Friday February 9th, 2007 7:39:07 AM

Toros sees Flat-top running into the jungle, but he cannot move with out danger, he's too close to the lizard!!

He figures if he crosses to (AE/18) he would be in a better spot? then He might have a better chance running in this jungle. (Still holding the Magic Wand)

Brahmah (hps 105(Diehard), AC 22)
Friday February 9th, 2007 9:26:02 AM

"Flat-top I said to take up the rear."

He continues to move.

Moshushi

neat. Going with the cast Fly on Zeoll and run away plan

Zeoll
Friday February 9th, 2007 2:07:42 PM

Zeoll may be singing, but he is well aware of what is going on around him. He hears Mosushi cast a Fly spell on him and then run off. He hears Winterglade's plan. He bets the two NPC guides have also run off following the party. By the end of the fourth round, no one is left near the huge lizard except himself, Glade, and Jack.

Zeoll is especially alarmed that although he can fly and although Glade is already in the air, Jack is going to be left alone on the ground with the monster.

When Zeoll finishes his song, he turns to Jack. "Jack, take this invisibility spell and hustle out of herre!" Then Zeoll casts Invisibility on Jack and flies 30 feet up into the air.

STUFF USED

1 second level bard spell.
1 second level druid spell.
2 bard musics.

Run Away! Run Away! (Sub Cayzle)  d20+42=47 (jump check) d100=78 d100=93 d100=59 d100=42 d100=22 (miss chance) d20+10=29 d20+10=24 d20+5=20 2d6(3+3)+5=11 2d6(3+2)+5=10 d4+2=3
Friday February 9th, 2007 2:34:49 PM

Brahmah, Gecktar, Flat-top, Toros, and the two guides back away, then run, down the path toward the vegetation-encrusted pyramid in the distance. Mosushi is right behind them.

Winterglade cures Jack, then airwalks up, out of reach of the huge lizard. He is ready to make a distraction.

Jack gets cured, then waits for Zeoll to finish so that he can protect him as he flees.

Zeoll finishes his song, then casts Invisibility on Jack and rises 30 feet up into the air.

The Mama Lizard shakes her head after the music ends, then sniffs. She moves over to the bodies of her two dead children. Her third, wounded baby, the one that ran away, follows behind her, you now see, making a pathetic mewling noise.

The Mama smells some more. She smells the taurs. The liontaur 30 feet off the ground. The centaur over her head and to the side. The minotaur at ground level. She growls, and then lets loose a howl of grief and rage. It looks like she is about to attack!

Winterglade's readied action kicks in. He starts yelling and waving. He throws down some leaves and branches at the monster.

The monster attacks Winterglade! The centaur is 15 feet out of reach, but the monster has a Jump modifier of +42! She makes a running jump at Winterglade, snapping with her mighty jaws. Her jump check is a 47, high enough to propel her 12 feet up into the air -- Winterglade feels the heat of her breath on his fetlocks, but she is just short of biting range!

The wounded young is emboldened by his mama's example, ane he has the same scent ability. He smells Jack, and tries to pounce on the invisible minotaur.

Jack, as the young lizard comes at you, you are entitled to take an Attack of Opportunity as it closes. But if you take it, your invisibility will be gone, and you will be visible to both Mama and young lizard. I'll assume you'll forego the AoO, but if you want to take it, roll those bones!

The young lizard attacks Jack! The last two attacks miss due to the miss chance granted by Invisibility. The other three attacks connect! Jack, take 24 hp damage.

STATUS AT END ROUND 15:

Mosushi, Brahmah, Flat-top, Toros, Gecktar, and the two guides are about 4.5 rounds away, running at minotaur speed. (Mosushi started a round behind, but liontaurs are fast, so he has since caught up.) Call that at least 500 feet on the path, and well out of sight. They hear the Mama Lizard roar, but that's it. The pyramid is another minute or two travel away.

Winterglade is 15 feet over the mama lizard. Zeoll is about 30 feet away and 30 feet in the air. Jack is about 30 feet away and on the ground, but invisible. The young lizard is next to him.

Actions?

Winterglade AC22 HP61(61)
Friday February 9th, 2007 5:14:12 PM

Winterglade starts sweating bullets. This was entirely too close for comfort. If the lizard grabs him he's dead.

The centaur's legs start shaking. This he'll have to play out very carefully.

Winterglade backs away from the lizard at his current height, still whistling and shouting and trying to keep it's attention - though his mouth is growing dry very fast [move action: move West].

His attention is concentrated entirely on the big lizard. As soon as (if?) it jumps at him again, he will run to the side [readied action: move out of the path of the jump to the North].

[Air Walk: about 1h]

Getting Away With It (Sub Cayzle)
Monday February 12th, 2007 10:43:00 AM

Winterglade gets ready to leap away should the mama lizard attack.

Jack runs off, away from the wounded youngling.

Zeoll follows Jack, flying out of reach.

Toros, Brahmah, Gecktar, and (presumably) Mosushi all continue to head for the pyramid. It is getting closer!

Flat-top takes the rearguard as the group heads for the old ruin.

The mama lizard does leap at Glade, but the centaur's preparedness saves him. Glade, Zeoll, and Jack all manage to evade the beasts and (should they so desire) rejoin the group.

Winterglade
Monday February 12th, 2007 10:52:38 AM

The centaur leads the beast away from the group for half a minute, then crosses the chasm and circles around to join the party. He arrives shortly after Zeoll and Jack (if they try to catch up, too). He's visibly shaken.

"Char's Temper! Winterglade just knows nights will be that much more fun now that the mental image of that maw is with him to keep him company."

"There must be more of them, you know, if they breed. Probably at least five adults if the population is to keep from degenerating. Winterglade wonders what they eat?"

Moshushi
Monday February 12th, 2007 1:01:12 PM

Moshushi is a simple guy, who likes simple plans. Currently, he favors the "run away from the huge lizard" plan. He'll run along with the group, heading towards the big, hopefully lizard-free pyramid. He's keeping an ear cocked for cries of help, or the sound of taurs being devoured, which will alter the plan

Jack Stronghooves
Monday February 12th, 2007 8:52:16 PM

Jack will slow his pace when he gets to the group with a slap on Zeolls back saying

"Thank you brother you may have saved my life and i am greatful.....HAHa Good battle eh!"...."Jjust wish we wouldnt have run away"......

Jack is in a good mood he has just done the one thing he knows the best, its been all he has done since a little taur and he hasnt had a good battle in quiet some time.
