DM Jan Sunday January 28th, 2007 11:29:46 PM
As the others arrive back in the open air, Gunther's cat, Thaeri, slinks forward and bats him with a paw. It's a friendly gesture, but demanding - Where've you been?
Teleportation sweeps everyone back into the Gold Dragon Castle courtyard in Plateau City, and everyone is immediately assaulted by the sounds and smells of city life.
Inside the castle, it is complete and utter bedlam, although butler Flabersham is trying to do his best to orchestrate some kind of order, so although it isn't immediately apparent, behind the scenes - Pails of hot water are being carried toward bath tubs, tailors and seamstresses are scurrying around with bolts of cloth and skins of leather, housekeeping staff are polishing, sweeping and bringing in extra furniture. Staff are flitting quickly through bedrooms - lighting hearths, laying out fresh bars of soap and brilliant white, starched chemises alongside trays of fruit, water and wine. And as for the kitchen, well, the kitchen is probably better left to the imagination.
There is an aura of anticipation throughout the entire castle, and it's gathering like a storm.
Valdor Monday January 29th, 2007 1:48:55 AM
Upon arriving back at the castle, Valdor pats Flabersham on the back and says, "You sure do great work. Gunther's cat will be present, so please make sure someone feeds him whatever Gunther needs. Is my daughter okay and has anything bad happened while we were away?"
He waits for an answer, then makes sure all of the Talons have a room in which to clean themselves up and bathe in. He reminds them all about how much or little time they have and reminds K'Nara, "Assuming you accept your coronation as Dragons, you should have a name ready before you stand and accept. Just thought I'd remind you as we've had so much other stuff going on you may not have considered it or talked to your group about it. If you or your party need anything, all you have to do is ask."
If there are no questions, he heads off to his daughter's room to see her before doing anything else.

Falin Monday January 29th, 2007 12:37:48 PM
Being swept up into something that makes him visibly uncomfortable Falin just follows everyone elses direction when they arrive at the castle.
Ve Mundr Monday January 29th, 2007 1:07:12 PM
Upon arriving, Ve heads to his room. "Nicholas. I have a few things to see to before the ceremony begins." Ve grabs a nearby page to come with him and puts his stride on a hard pace towards his room. Upon arriving Ve asks the page to simply have a seat. "If I need anything I will let you know."
Touching the symbol upon his chest, Ve whispers a small prayer, and a shimmering portal opens before him. Ve strides into the newly created mansion to get himself cleaned up, but also as a safe location to leave the staff while he attended the ceremony. {Cast Miracle to replicate Mordenkains Magnificent Mansion}

Lian Monday January 29th, 2007 2:44:56 PM
Doubts flow through the elf's head as they are tranported into bedlam.
He has no doubt the group as a whole deserves the title, but a new name? The name 'Lian' has always sufficed. Its not good enough now?
He joins Valdor and Knara. "I'm having doubts as to why titles for the Talons as individuals is so important? Why should one name themselves? The Dragon title for the group should be more than sufficient I think. Valdor, even you said you recieved your name, Dragonstone, from someone. Wouold it mean as much had you named yourself that? Whats in a name?" Says Lian, picking a chunk of drying worm from his hair and sluffing it to the clean floor absently.
K'Nara Monday January 29th, 2007 2:47:57 PM
The tall blade singer grins at the elven monk.
"Lian...I believe that Valdor is referring to the group's Dragon name...not individual ones. And I suppose he's right...if we leave that up to, oh, say, Ve or the like--we could well get stuck with something like the Paper Dragons or the Snap Dragons. Go get cleaned up and then meet with me at my quarters." She starts to walk away, then turns back and adds: "Oh, yes...don't forget to tell the others to do the same!"
K'Nara manages to get ahold of the elven seamstress she was telling Gunther about earlier.
"Trialle," she says, "Remember that buckskin suit I asked you about a few months back..? Think you can get it ready in under two hours?"
The elven seamstress nearly faints dead away, but she regains her composure, reminding K'Nara that it was a good thing that the leader of the Talons had started that particular project a while back, or the closest Gunther would have gotten to such a suit would have been buck-naked!
"However," Trialle continues, "Your own gown needs but a few alterations. It's about ready to go."
"Thank you." K'Nara says, "I'll go bathe and we can take care of that." The tall blade singer goes to her assigned quarters and uses the facilities, smiling at the sandalwood soap and large tub. This was going to be sooooo relaxing--for a change!
Mordrid Monday January 29th, 2007 3:24:12 PM
Once at the castle, Mordrid finds the study and plops down in front of the fire. Resting his feet on a quilted ottomon, he reclines back into a fitful rest. His mind was agonized, and his stomach felt torn.
Holding his dirty and crusted hand to silhoutte against the fire-light, the ranger makes a decision not to clean up. No, the event was symbolic. Consortium members weren't actually dragons. What they 'were" : dirty, old, tattered and torn. The true life of a hero was soiled with the stench of sweat and death. It's colors were red and brown, not silver and gold.
And this new crew... well, some were prepared. Some were not. And some were downright dangerous. There was much love among them. That was good. But there was also much passion between them. That was bad. And some just didn't know were to fit in at all. That was dangerous.
Mordrid closes his eyes.
Fabersham [DM Jerry] Monday January 29th, 2007 3:46:27 PM
"Yes sir Mr. Valdork." Fabersham grins at his not so subtle reminder to Valdor that his name is not FLABersham.
"Sorry sir. Please take it out of my salary."
Deadpan look.
----------
Mrs. K'nara, I'm sending extra chairs to your quarters maam.
----------
Fabersham then asks a request from Mordrid.
"Sir, I've just been informed that we're ready to go live to the Giggling Ghost just as soon as you give the word. They are showing an outdoor live view of the castle at the moment. They have access to the Dining Room, the Assembly Hall where we'll have our meal, and the Bar. You can turn the feed off with this diamond sir. Just speak into it what you want and it happens. Close up on this person, outdoor view, pan the room, etc.
"This is Aldorius Spiggotpox. He is directing the feed. He has a diamond of control too, but yours supercedes his. This was a bone of contention with him, but I knew you'd have him in here without complete control over what goes out. There is a copy being made in the crystal as well, so you can at any point play anything back, or do so later at your convenience if you want it edited, or deleted.
"Aldorius, meet Sir Mordrid."
Fabersham, then checks messages with the staff, and returns to Valdor.
"Sir, Sturtavent has just informed the doorman that he is awaiting our pleasure with our other guests at the High Lord Mayor's palace. He will entertain them there until you are ready for them. Let me know when you're ready, sir, and I'll pass on the word to His Mayorship."
Fabersham, the butler, then strides into the kitchen to check on things there.
Gunther Monday January 29th, 2007 4:23:34 PM
The warrior heads to his assigned quarters with more than a hint of misgiving. After spotting the tub, he turns to Thaeri. "What do you think this thing is for?" He sniffs suspeciously at the soap...it didn't smell like it was for eating. More than a little confused, Gunther heads over to Lian's quarters. "Uhhhmmm...Lian...I'm a little confused. I tink I figured out vat to do vith de container of vater...but what do you do vith de smelly stuff sitting on it?" Gunther seems genuinly confused as he waits for Lian to clear things up for him.
After figuring out the bathing routine, Gunther patiently sits through what seems like endless poking and proding by K'nara's seamstress. He reminds himself over and over that once this is over he'll be able spend some sweet alone time with his beloved. Once the seamstress has left, Gunther spends his remaining time with his kitty. After a little bit of good natured wrestling, Gunther sets about grooming her and watering both of their wreathes. Combing her beautiful fur until it shines, Gunther tries to explain the situation. "We were off fighting a big monster. Now they're thowing a party for us. Lots of food...especially for you. But you have to be good. No playing and no hunting. I'll make sure you get all you want to eat. Just stay close and relax." Gunther grins at the panther, knowing that she will probably do better than he does.
Lian Monday January 29th, 2007 6:04:28 PM
The monk does as Knara asks and tells the others to get on with preparations.
Stifeling a grin so as not to put him off of it, Lian describes the bathing process to a confused Gunther (if nothing else pleasant comes of this, at least he got a bath). "While it seems odd, a bath is a good time to reflect on the days activities. It is often relaxing too. As I understand it, humans often take one with a friend. I don't suggest trying to bathe the kitty either, she is likely well versed in keeping clean."
After bathing and washing his clothes, the monk leaves them to dry near the fire and tries desperately to avoid the multitude of tailors fluttering around the castle. Oh what he would give for a ring of invisibility!
Corialote and Amarth Monday January 29th, 2007 9:36:02 PM
Cori heads straight for her new room once they arrive, though she does bestow a parting kiss upon Valdor. Looking to Amarth on her shoulder she shakes her head. "I will have to do a little cleaning of you too my friend...though a spell should suffice." The raven seems momentarily worried till she says she will use a spell and not water with soap.
Once inside her room she neatly strips down to nothing and slips into the hot water of the large copper tub. "You know Amarth...I should have invited Valdor to share my bath...we could have had some fun getting each other clean." She sinks into the tub and submerges her head to help in cleaning her hair as well.
Amarth flaps over to land upon the nest that is present in the new room and deposits his new finds into it. He moves them around to get them into the position that he wants. He is content as he sits in his nest and admires his new fancies.
Valdor Monday January 29th, 2007 9:43:52 PM
Valdor raises an eyebrow at Fabersham's comment and almost says something. He stares hard at the man who he has respected and employed for a long time. He finally says,"Never in your time of employment have I insulted you, slighted you in any way, talked down to you as most employers do, nor given you any attitude whatsoever except appreciation. I have no idea what brought that about, but don't let it happen again. The result would not be pleasant and neither of us will be happy. Thank you for your preparations, however, and I will send word soon."
Valdor stiffly turns around and heads upstairs.
(Valdor didn't address him as Flabersham, Jerry, and the previous post by Jan had it spelled that way:) -Valdor pats Flabersham on the back and says, "You sure do great work. Gunther's cat will be present, so please make sure someone feeds him whatever Gunther needs. Is my daughter okay and has anything bad happened while we were away?")
Dahlia / Ingrge Monday January 29th, 2007 10:24:59 PM
Like Cori, Dahlia heads straight to her room with a slight smirk on her face and a impish plan in her heart. She knows that the night beongs to the Talons and she for one is about ready to take some time off and enjoy the relaxation of days without the constant life and death struggles. With a song in her heart she begins her plan to either rejuvinate or give a certain cleric a heart attack. In what seesm like no tme at all but in reality is almost an hour, Dahlia emerges from her rooms and makes her way down to meet the others. Her attire, is likely to shock many of the more staid and stuffy of the City but she was a gypsy after all. Her long skirt is a gauzy, filmy affair that if one looks hard enough seems to almost not be there at all. In fact you are pretty sure that you can see bare leg through the filmy layers. Above the skirt there is about 10 inches of dark bare skin running up along both sides and over her shoulders with just enough fabric to cover her belly and chest enough to keep the prude from openly rebelling the fabric, what there is of it is gracefully tied up behind her neck and plunges deeply in the front with a totally bare back. Around her neck and nestled in her cleavage is a platinum chain with a bright purple stone that matches her eyes. Her long hair which is normally braided and twisted tightly, is tonight, carefully coifed and piled upon her head as to nearly give her an extra 6 inches of height along her brow she wears a simple platinum band that literally glows against her blach hair and skin.
************
Ingrge retires to his assigned room and bathes, taking some time to soak and really get the kinks out. taking out his mirror he carefully trims his long alabaster hair, letting it hang just below his shoulders and cut across the face held in place by his silver headband with the single green emerald in it. His long white robe is nearly glistening and so white that you can almost see individual waves ov color waving through it. Around his neck and hanging down in front of his robe is a mithril chain and emerald that seems to be made of a single piece. It is an unusual piece of jewelry unlike anything normally found in the traditional jewelry markets and stalls, for it is a one of a kind piece made for him by his wife Caeryn. The only other bit of color adorning Ingrge is the staff that is nealry alwasy at hand: Black of wood with a mithril foot and fist at either end, he makes his way to K'nara's room in Gold dragon castle.
Falin Monday January 29th, 2007 11:08:11 PM
Watching what everyone else is doing Falin goes to his room to clean for the big evening. He bathes in the tub and rests his travel weary body in the hot water and lets it pull the soreness from his body. It had been a long time since he had taken a nice hot bath.
Next he looks to see what has been preparred for him to wear. He had never had any need for nice clothes since he began his travels. If only his family could see him now...
Falin emerges from the room wearing a simple black shirt and brown pants. The bottoms of his pants are tucked into his leather boots. His red hair almost shines now that it has been watched and there is a twinkle in his deep green eyes.
((DM Jan OOC)) Tuesday January 30th, 2007 12:14:35 AM
((Alas poor Fabersham. He's had to live with Jerry's original typo for oohh, what - two years now. LOL.))
Nick Valentine Tuesday January 30th, 2007 12:30:20 AM
Nick retires to his own rooms as the others drift off. There he strips down and gets cleaned up. He has a few aches and pains - he figures as a result of descending and then climbing back out of that cave. There had been a day when he would have relished a bit of exercise and clambering about. Alas, these days he was going to have to pace himself.
Changing into fresh robes, he then lights some incense and kneels to pray, giving thanks that everyone returned safely, and asking Alemi to bless the Talons with strength for the path they were about to take.
Olana Tuesday January 30th, 2007 12:34:40 AM
"C'mon," the elf says to Milo - lets go and get cleaned up. I don't know about you but I don't want to dress in anything fancy. This is daunting enough as it is without having to dress like clowns. Want me to wash your hair?"
She asks the staff if they'll clean and repair her gear, although she must admit, a nice new white shirt to go under her leathers would be nice.
Aeralia Tuesday January 30th, 2007 12:39:31 AM
A party. A party was what Aeralia knew, more then the wars and dragons she'd recently been dragged to. The young and naive sorceress hadn't quite gripped what the event was actually for, and what it meant for her, should she still be included in with her new companions; but the thought of a party had the young woman scurrying.
She paused briefly as a few seamstresses took her measurements, creating with her illusions a sample dress for the women to work to construct in their limited time frame. After the seamstresses were on their way, project in hand, Aeralia heads quickly to her room to finish getting ready. She doesn't relax much in the steamy bath, rather quickly cleaning herself, and scrubbing the grim and gore from her hair.
Once scrubbed and cleansed, Aeralia fetches a small kit from her back, unrolling the make-up case carefully on the table. She takes care as she applies the oils and compounds to her face and hair, not out of caution, but mostly to pass the time as she awaits her dress to be delivered.
Once the dress arrives, the young lady quickly dresses and finishes her preperations. The dress was fairly simple, a deep red colored silk dress, devoid of many frivolities. It had a simple and form fitting top with long sleeves, ending in a gloves. The shoulders we're bare, coming to a sharp "V" in the center of the chest. The skirt contained multiple layers of fabric, giving it a flowing look, with some body to it, emphizing the wearers slim waist and rounded hips.
In her hair Aeralia has added some dying compound, adding deep red tones to match the rich colors of her dress. Her face is accented as well, her lips an even brighter red then normal, and a deep red shade of eyeliner. She wears simple ruby colored earrings, set in silver, and a matching silver pendant. Looking herself over once in the mirror, the young sorceress smiles happily at her appearance, though certainly planning on adding a little more spice to her look, once it was showtime.
Having overheard K'nara and Lian earlier, Aeralia makes her way to the talon leaders room, once she is sure she is ready.
Lian Tuesday January 30th, 2007 8:48:23 AM
Making it to Knara's room, the monk, dressed still in his finest and freshly cleaned(and still slightly damp) adventuring gear, spots the sorceress Aeralia and is dumbstruck.
Having successful been overlooked by the seamstresses and tailors, Lian sits happily back waiting for the last of the group to show. He steals a glance or two at Aeralia while he waits.
Ve Mundr Tuesday January 30th, 2007 10:19:09 AM
Ve steps into the Mansion which contains four rooms. The entry hall has a 15x15 room immediately to its left and then straight ahead 8' to a massive 30x30 room with candles, incense, a great rug and roaring fire, through this room is a high ceiling room full of steam and dominated by a great pool. Ve moves to the far corner and opens a door to a pitch black room that seems to be an endless pit. Ve opens his carpet and places the staff upon it and gives the command for the rug to rise into the black. Ve turns and shuts the door and locks it. Unseen servants then begin assisting him with the removal of his armor and everything else.
Ve then moves into the steam room to meditate and pray on the upcoming event. After 20 minutes, he dives into the ice cold water and swims to the far side climbs out and quickly moves out of the room to a clean room where more servants assist him with dressing in the silks and thick cotton robes suited to his position as a Heirophant and Protector of Domi. Once dressed, he moves to the great chamber with the fire to have some refreshments and final preparations.
All told, Ve exits the magical portal after an hour and dismisses the page. The portal is set to him and invisible and with that Ve puts the staff out of his mind and considers it safely kept. With a final check, Ve straightens the shoulders of the deep crimson robe embroidered with the high Woldian symbol of Domi in the center and his personal seals on the shoulders. He takes his personal crafted silver and mithrial holy symbol and places it about his neck and exits towards the Father Nicholas's room.
Ve knocks and enters after invited. "How are you Nicholas? Anything I can do?"
Mordrid Tuesday January 30th, 2007 11:11:20 AM
Mordrid is startled out of his day dream upon Fabersham's entrance into the study. Feet now on the ground, the ranger just looks at Fabersham with mouth agape as Fabersham describes the diamond device. "What?"
The ranger unassuredly reaches out to grab the device, and nods to Aldorious.
[OOC: Jerry, I think I understand what you intend with the device?]
The ranger gets up stiffly from the chair and stretches.
"So Aldorious... can you receive my commands thru this thing? To go live that is... or whatever?"
Mordrid gives Fabersham the why me look?
Meanwhile.... (Dm Jan) Tuesday January 30th, 2007 1:29:19 PM
At some point in the day, two of the kitchen porters are feeding Gunther's cat a hind quarter of beef that has been hooked onto the end of a ten foot pole. From the looks on their faces - as they regard Thaeri's powerful jaws tearing at flesh, followed by the occasional glance over their shoulders toward the kitchen door, where the cook can be heard, bellowing like a raging bull at everyone within earshot - one might be hard pressed to figure out where they'd rather be right now.
As for the sentient Staff of Necromancy, having been left in the dark on a floating carpet, it has nothing to do but plot, sulk, and plot some more. And maybe talk to the carpet. How do you talk to a carpet, anyway?
Valdora (DM Jan) Tuesday January 30th, 2007 1:49:53 PM
As soon as Valdor's daughter discovers that the group have arrived back, she dashes through the stone and marble hallways to greet him, where she completely ignores protocol, leaps on him like an energetic monkey and gives him an enormous hug.
"Daddy!!" she laughs.
The twins follow up a few moments later, somewhat embarrassed that they haven't been able to keep pace, and stop a short distance away.
Incoming Guests (Dm Jan) Tuesday January 30th, 2007 2:39:03 PM
Two figures arrive at the outer courtyard, are escorted through the inner courtyard and to the main entrance hall.
"Presenting Lady Alicia Gabriella D'Anlaf, Overlord of the Floating City! And His Grace, High Priest Torel of the Floating City, Undead Hunter of Gargul!"
Alicia is a slender young woman, her face pale but confident. Her long, sandy hair is drawn into a formal style on top of her head, and secured with jeweled pins. She is wearing a long, formal robe in her signature dark blue colour, trimmed with light grey fur.
Alongside her stands a tall, forbidding man dressed entirely in black. Broad shouldered and bald headed, any visible skin - on his head, on his hands - carries deep traces of scars both old and new. He is not especially pleasing to look upon. At his feet, wisps of grey smoke drift from the folds of his cloak. He carries a faint odour of blood. Around his neck, on a solid chain, hangs the symbol of Gargul's Eye.
Fabersham [DM Jerry] Tuesday January 30th, 2007 4:27:28 PM
"Oh no! Too soon," Fabersham mutters as Alicia and consort arrives.
He rushes forward.
"Good evening your Lordships!"
He bows low. "The Golds and Talons are still freshening up after their latest journeys. Please come into the bar area and have a drink. Relax. The feed to the Giggling Ghost has not begun yet so you have a few minutes."
Then he returns to Mordrid. "Sir, the device to control the feed needs to be in the hands of someone experienced with the public. Valdor will be making perhaps more of the speeches, so this task fell to you? Unless you prefer me to give it to another?"
Fabersham already looks wet around the eyes from Valdor's scolding, and his pride is in full force. Chin in the air. Standing erect. Thumb slightly twitching.
Onrad [DM Jerry] Tuesday January 30th, 2007 4:46:02 PM
Onrad bustles out of the kitchen and gives Mordrid a quick hug.
"Fabersham, please ring the bell thrice to summon everyone to the bar area for the procession.
"Mordrid, I hope you don't mind. This was getting too big. It needed one of us to oversee. So I volunteered.
"You and Valdor get yourselves cleaned up. You only have about 5 min before we should begin the feed. There's quite a crowd gathering in the Giggler. You can see them too with the viewing devices in the bar and in the grand hall."
"Oh, and I just got word. The Emperor of Aisildur is here too. Seems like the Consortium is drawing the rulers of the Wold together tonight. Sturtavent had the guard doubled already. he's putting a lockdown 200' around the grounds and check points all through the Dragon Quarter.
"I told him we were here and that was enough. But the PTBs didn't think so. So there's like 500 City Guard out there. I hope no one attacks the walls. Like someone's gonna attack Sturtavent. Yeah right."
Onrad bustles over into the bar to check the preparations there.
Corialote and Amarth Tuesday January 30th, 2007 7:43:33 PM
Cori slips out of the tub and dries off quickly as she figures she is running low on time. A quick spell aids her in getting things extra clean and she does take the time to make sure that Amarth is cleaned up as well.
Moving over to a chest she opens it and pulls out three dresses. With a devilish smile she picks up the light blue dress with silver trim and nods her head. "This will do fine." She slips into the dress with some ease and then shakes her head. "I so hate to go unarmed." But she leaves all of her gear in her room after taking the time to wizard lock her door.
Amarth is cleaned and seated upon her bare right shoulder, as she comes down the stairs. Her ebony skin, marked with the white ivy tattooing, glows as she moves in the torchlight. The dress is cut low in the front, just ending a little below her bellybutton. A spiderweb type pattern runs that entire length but does not hide much between the actual fabric. For those that thought this was bad enough, the back over her dress is completely open and cut to ride just above her butt. The final enhancement is the slit that runs up the right side to midthigh.
She gives a charming smile as she watches for reactions and for Valdor. His reaction should be more fun than anyone elses'. The only accent pieces for her are a pair of mother of pearl earrings, though she has the Platinum earpiece right to the side. Then there is the simple gold necklace that holds her Star Mage guild medallion.
Milo Tuesday January 30th, 2007 8:59:09 PM
"Indeed milady," and Milo sticks his elbow out, mocking the 'noble's style' and leads Olana off toward the baths for a hot bubble bath.
Nick Tuesday January 30th, 2007 10:42:13 PM
Having finished his prayers, Ve Mundr finds Nick stirring a rather odd-smelling concoction in a glass. "Hot water, cider vinegar, and honey," he says by way of explanation. "Just the thing for aching bones, and seeing as I've prescribed this many times over the years in my capacity as a healer, then I shouldn't be afraid of taking my own medicine. Down the hatch!"
He swallows the brew down in one gulp, then winces. "Ugh." Then his face cracks into a grin. "So, shall we join the others? I wonder who else has been invited?"
Gunther Tuesday January 30th, 2007 11:21:07 PM
Donning his expertly crafted buckskin, Gunther smiles. K'nara was a genius! Not only did the the navy complement the lite blue flowers of his wreath, but it also drew the attention away from his snow white hair and instead focused it on his intense blue eyes. The well placed diamond chips buttons accent his well developed chest. Knowing time is running out, he heads quickly over to K'nara's quarters.
Sturtavent Tuesday January 30th, 2007 11:35:47 PM
The High Lord Mayor, Sturtevent, is a waiting the mixed group of hero's in the bar. Sturtavent is decked out in a gold highlighted pants and jacket and there seems to be shimmering hues of green and purple in the jacket.
Just behind the High Lord Mayor is a beautiful female elf of indeterminant age with pale eyes, silver hair, and a gown the color of moonlight. She holds a closed binder and seems to be at Sturtevent's call.
Sturtevent has his left arm behind his back and a glass of red wine in a large glass in his right. Sturtevent hold the wine glass up and give a small nod as each of the hero's enters the bar.
Falin Wednesday January 31st, 2007 8:51:30 AM
Falin nods back to the High Lord Mayor as he enters the room. He feels a little out of his league here. Not being one to like attention and dressing up. He gets a glass of milk and moves over to the side of the room to watch for others entering.
Ve Mundr Wednesday January 31st, 2007 10:32:52 AM
Ve makes a face as Nick tells him about what he is about to drink, "Ugh! Yes I am unfortunately quite intimitely familiar with that particular remedy." Ve's eyes grow softer as father Nicholas puts the drink to his lips and downs it. Ve will find a way to help him.
"From my brief walk to here it would seem, well, that everyone is going to be here. I even heard that the coronation is being magically sent to many places like the Giggling Ghost."
Ve opens the door and steps into the hall and grabs the nearest servant, "Run ahead and inform Fabersham that Father Nicholas and Ve Mundr will be arriving shortly."
The Bell Tolls [DM Jerry] Wednesday January 31st, 2007 11:40:26 AM
Three Bells ring out through the castle. Servants rush to inform everyone that the festivities are imminent and to make their way to the bar please.
Everyone is told that the live feed to the Giggling Ghost will begin very shortly and everyone needs to be in the bar for the start.
"But sir, Lord Onrad said to please head to the bar now."
"Yes maam, I know, but if you're late it will show on the broadcast. No maam, we're not hiding anything. The broadcast will be uncensored and it will be live.
"Yes sir, I'll be glad to show you the way to the bar."
Workers skitter around putting a last minute polish on all the furnishings. Candelabra are lit and raised. Rugs are given a final brushing.
The bar begins to fill with Platinum Dragons, Emerald Talons, and their guests.
There are sincere embraces, small talk, and in come cases, a nervous look or two.
Lian Wednesday January 31st, 2007 11:49:23 AM
The monk offers his arm to Aeralia. It only seems right since everyone else seemed to have a partner.
Of course, the monks plain gray gear will be overshadowed by the sorceress' beauty, as it should be.
"Lad... Miss Aeralia, will you do me the honor and accompany me to the festivities?"
Valdor Wednesday January 31st, 2007 11:59:26 AM
Valdor returns shortly wearing a silk black shirt and black leather pants. The shirt is fairly loose fitting and is long sleeved. He wears a simple gold necklace and his ever present gold dragon earring dangling from his left ear. His hair is shiny and combed back, ending about shoulder length.
When he sees Cori, his jaw almost hits the ground. He blushes a crimson red for a minute before looking around for Studavent. When he finally meets up with him, he grasps the High Lord Mayor's hand and says,"I guess we were successful, old friend. Floating City is safe for the time being once again. Not to mention that others won't be so ready to immitate his aggressiveness."
He moves away and finds Alicia and Torel. He bows low to both with respect and says,"Our hearts are gladdened that you both could make it. Lady, it is with great pleasure that I can tell you that your city is safe from the threat. The group we are honoring tonight played a large role in ending the threat. Torel, it has been a long time since I have seen you and we are honored with your presence. Please enjoy our hospitality."
He then searches out Cori and his daughter and moves with them around the room.
Mordrid Wednesday January 31st, 2007 2:43:58 PM
"Well, let's get this show on the road." Dressed in his worn outting bucks, the ranger makes his way down the stairs and towards the bar. He still has his sunsword sheathed at his side, because it's... well, unprofessional and unintellegent to not do so.
Upon interring the bar the ranger nods at Sturtevant and winks at Valdor. Walking behind Valdor he leans forward and whispers, "I can't believe its not butter."
The ranger catches Onrad's eye and holds up the diamond scrye device to show that he remembers, and to see if Onrad nods him on to "go live."
Pulling up a chair, the ranger finds a nice high vantage point and positions the diamond. Not knowing which way to point the device, he throws up his arms and sighs, "I guess that's good enough." He drops to the floor and signals Valdor.
Onrad [DM Jerry] Wednesday January 31st, 2007 4:47:50 PM
Onrad grinning approaches Mordrid. "Brother, there's no need. The diamond cameraa are already in place. Invisible. This is the controlling diamond. Just turn it on and off with your mind. If you want a different viewpoint, closeup, just picture what you want and it will happen.
"You can look into it to see the view those in the GG are seeing. So if you're ready, just think at it and it will happen.
"BTW, keep it in your possession, because whoever holds it controls it. It does have intelligence, but you shouldn't have any trouble with its willpower.
"There, you've turned it on to the bar view. Note the giant crystal ball over there has come to life and you can see into the GG and they can see you. Nifty."
Onrad then walks over to the crystal ball, looks into it and says, "Greetings!"
He waits a minute for the crowd to subside.
"Welcome to the Emerald Talon Induction Banquet. I trust that everyone has food and drink? Happy? We are glad that you took time out of your busy lives to help us celebrate with the Emerald Talons.
"You are intelligent people. So I'll leave you to watch, drink, talk, and enjoy yourselves."
He bows and turns back to talk to Mordrid.
Olana Wednesday January 31st, 2007 5:24:50 PM
Aah.... but it was good to get clean, finally. Time spent just kicking back would have been nice, but by the time she's got the worm-guts-turned-to-glue out of Milo's hair, it's time to get dressed and get back to the group.
"Are we ready for this?" she whispers to her halfling companion as they enter the reception room.
Alicia and Torel (Floating City NPCs) Wednesday January 31st, 2007 5:47:00 PM
"We owe you and your friends here a great deal of thanks," Alicia tells Valdor after all the greetings have been done. "As it stands right now, I've had to leave Terran, my aide, behind so he can start making arrangements for Lady Solara's funeral and preparations for a new elected representative for the Gold level. It will be interesting to see who comes out of the woodwork for that post. "Torel here was very gracious in volunteering to accompany me in his stead."
The big undead hunter gives Valdor a solumn bow. "My thanks, Valdor, and the honour is all mine. For my part I shall try not to detract from the merriment of the proceedings." The last comment is in jest, a play on his appearance and dour aura, and is accompanied by a broad smile that almost cracks his ruined face in two.
When Nick and Ve arrive, he gives them an acknowledging bow, peer to peer. When he looks upon them it is with open appraisal, and a hint of friendly rivalry. Trails of pale smoke continue to uncurl from the bottom of his cloak, lending him the illusion that he is floating on a small cloud.
Dahlia / Ingrge Wednesday January 31st, 2007 5:52:07 PM
Dahlia makes her way to the Bar and casually makes her way over to where Nick has settled. Sitting down she turns to him and flutters her eyelashes.
"Buy a thirsty girl a drink, sailor?"
Having met with the group for mere moments before being summoned, Ingrge takes a few deep breaths and wishes for the umpteenth time that his wife could be here to help chase away the niggling doubts that kept insinuating themselves into his thoughts. Deep down he knows that the Talons can handle the nitty gritty protection of the populace stuff, it was the political side of things he was worried about. In all honesty there isn't truly a subtle one among us. Perhaps Arelia will be able to help us in that arena as well. She seems to have a temperate side to her than the rest of us.
Just outside of the bar the scarred, white-haired elf pauses, collects himself and makes sure there is a pleasant look on his face and then walks in looking around for the other Talons. Spotting Falin, Ingrge makes his way over to the younger elf only pausing for a moment to pick up his lower jaw as he spots Corialote's and Dahlia's attire.
Valdora (NPC) Wednesday January 31st, 2007 6:17:51 PM
Once again, the young teenager finds herself in auspicious company, and not wanting to put a foot wrong, sticks close to her father's side as he makes the rounds.
She recognizes Sturtavent, and most of the other Platinums. As for the Talons, she looks at them in turn, trying to memorize names and faces. A lot of elves in that group, and some of them looked more nervous than she was. At least most of them had dressed down, like her. It made her feel a little more at ease. Oh, there'd been a big fight with some of the staff about that, wanting to put her in some kind of frilly dress. Ugh.
And there was the Overlord of Floating City - wow, she looked so young, and who was that big ugly guy stood next to her?
Milo Wednesday January 31st, 2007 8:04:33 PM
Milo quirks his face up at Olana, "Ready? For a party? Absolutely yes... To get turned into a dragon or some such thing... um... I'm not so sure about that one love. But if they say we earned it, I'll take their word for it. Something tells me that we'll be paying this one off for some time."
K'Nara Wednesday January 31st, 2007 8:39:38 PM
The door to the bedroom of the suite that holds the leader of the Emerald Talons opens and out glides K'Nara. She wears an off-the-shoulder gown of emerald green that is embroidered in gold and blue that (miraculously?) matches the shades of Gunther's comfortable but snappy buckskins. Her hair--no longer bound by her customary snood--falls in fiery waves to her waist. The only jewelry she wears is the silver dragon cuff in her right ear and the signet ring that Lian had gifted her a while ago on the pinky of her left hand.
"Gunther! You look magnificent!" she declares with a grin, kissing him soundly. "See? I told you that formal didn't necessarily mean stuffy, now, didn't I?" K'Nara turns bright hazel eyes to the others assembled. "Before we go and face the Consortium, my friends...we need to decide on the name we will take when they officially induct us. Once upon a time--a long time ago--I had toasted to the possibility of us becoming Emerald Dragons. Shall we make it the case tonight...or is there another name that you all feel may be more appropriate..?"
Aeralia Wednesday January 31st, 2007 11:34:26 PM
Aeralia blinks in confusion at Lian's offer, not comprehending for a moment; her mind on something else. Glancing behind the elven monk, she watches Terrin, whom had just started strolling down the hallway, quickly open and slip into a side door, out of sight, and for the moment, out of her mind.
She smiles at his offered arm, her lips parting into a wide grin, and her cheeks flushing red. "It would be an honor," she says after a few moments of long silence, and entwines her arm into his.
"Thanks," she adds as they start to walk, grateful to have someone to accompany. She had fully intended to have someone, but someone besides Terrin was certainly a welcome, though uncomfortable, change.
Closing her eyes briefly, the lovely sorceress activates her magical headwear, illusionary sparkles shimmering and shining all over her gown like sequins.
~~~~
(OOC: Silent, Still Major Image for a brief Terrin. Then activate Hat of Disguise to enhance appearance)
Gunther Wednesday January 31st, 2007 11:49:11 PM
The warrior is thunderstruck by K'nara sheer and utter beauty. Never has he seen this side of her. And though mildly petrified of her femininity so openly displayed, there is another, more base side of the man that finds even her slightest of touch electrifying. "Mmmmhmmm..." he mumbles at K'nara's complement...looking very much like a love struck teenager as he tags along clumsily behind her.
Corialote and Amarth Wednesday January 31st, 2007 11:56:24 PM
Cori cannot help but shake her head at poor Valdor as he spots her. She has been one for show at times and this was one of those times. Heck it showed the others what they would be missing out on as she was spoken for.
She slips over to stand near Valdora and gives the young girl a smile. "You look lovely my dear...does your father know how many hearts you must be breaking?" She is most proud of the girl and the bearing that she holds. This girl was truely born to this even if she did not feel it on the inside...a long time ago she would have said the same of herself. "I do hope that you are keeping him guessing and hopping...but still staying safe." She tries to keep her tone one of girlfriend to girlfriend and not as the older more experienced woman.
She smiles as Valdor approaches and then turns slowly for him, the hem of her dress swirling around her black boots that can been seen now. "I take it that you like." Her eyes are sparkling and she laughs as she points to Ingrge as he comes in. "Seems that he cannot believe that two lovely and toughened women could be caught wearing as little as Dahlia and myself." She tries to gain Dahlia's attention and then salute the young girl. She has taken a liking to Dahlia and they both had that same kind of personality...mischevious.
Amarth is watching the gathering crowds as he keeps an eye out for other troubles. Not that he expects any, but his Mistress would not be happy if he did not at least watch the other goings on. After all, she was sharing his vision as well.
Falin Thursday February 1st, 2007 3:37:46 AM
Falin watches as his friends walk in with their dates and smiles at them as they walk by. As he swirls his milk in the glass he scans around the room and thinks to himself I do not know anyone else here. I have been out adventuring for far to long. Right now I think I would rather be facing the flying skulls again.
Lian Thursday February 1st, 2007 6:18:54 AM
Discomfort and awkwardness, even for this well traveled elf, was a new exprience... a humbling one. He thought he would be turned down by the sorceress. The monk feels and sees discomfort in the faces of his friends. Falin looks like he swallowed something foul. Gunther looks stiff in that get-up. The girls are loving it though. He thinks to himself as he looks at Aeralia, Olana and finally Knara. Wow, our leader fixes up nice.
"Miss Aeralia, what are your thoughts on this induction? This is alot to take in for you. If you choose not to proceed, we will understand." After hearing her thoughts about the induction, the hand of Domi asks her about herself. History. Background. Friends and family. "Who do you miss most?"
Sturdevant Thursday February 1st, 2007 1:21:49 PM
The regal looking High Lord Mayor waits for all of the hero's to enter the bar and then turns to his adjunct "The gifts please Herterona." Sturdevant drains his wine glass and the goes for a refill at the bar. Sturdevant keeps his left hand behind his back as he moves gracefully over to the bar.
Herterona opens her leather binder and then takes out a quill and starts to check off items on the enclosed paper. Herterona the moves to a table where there are colored boxes. Herterona the practically flows through the bar area as he long moonlight colored dress hides her feet.
Herterona delivers a green box and a sealed envelope to each member of the Emerald Talons. The envelope is sealed with a gold wax and stamped with what looked to be a claw. The beutiful elf then delivers a grey box to each of the Platinum dragon. Herterona's only respone is "With the compliments of the High Lord Mayor of Plateau City."
The boxes are about 6 x 6 x 10 inches each.
Ve Mundr Thursday February 1st, 2007 1:52:17 PM
Ve inclines his head to Lady Alicia and returns the bow to Torel. Ve's eyes, also, take in the hunter and appraisingly shoot over him. Ve had always considered Gargul with care and respect. The church and the those within seemed a contradiction to him and thus he always lead with an open mind when meeting them.
Ve moves with calm assurance of his place in this room of lords and ladies and makes his way to where a drink tray is being carried and takes a glass of red Pinot from it. Ve moves through the room and meets with most of the attendees, taking Father nicholas in his wake. "An honor to meet you." "Thank you for coming." and "A pleasure." make up for his side almost exclussively.
Ve finally settles upon a location and looks back across at those who are to be the saviors and guardians of the Wold. Without looking and while taking a sip from his crystal he asks Nicholas with a mirthful lilt in his voice, "Were we ever so young and out of our element Nicholas? Lian, Falin, Gunther, Aerilia, almost all of them look positively scared to death." Ve pauses and his voice drops in tone and darkens slightly, "Are we doing the right thing my friend Nicholas?"
The gifts break him from this and he returns a held bow of his head when presented the box by Herterona. "Thank you my lady Herterona and to your lord." Ve simply holds the box and awaits the speech, his eyes upon High Lord Mayor Sturdevant.
Lian d20+20=35 Thursday February 1st, 2007 4:53:39 PM
Not sure whether to release the sorceress' arm for fear of losing her to a better looking man, or taking the box, the monk ops for the latter and graciously accepts the box. Bowing deeply, he takes it, not opening it until told.
(Listen 35) Noticing Ve looking in his direction, ears like a bat, the elf looks directly at Ve and Nick. He smiles and nods, slightly bowing, stray platnum locks falling forward into his eyes, obscuring his sea green eyes.
K'Nara Thursday February 1st, 2007 6:55:18 PM
"You all wish to discuss the possibilities amongst yourselves..?" K'Nara asked the group, still waiting for them to reply about what the Dragon name for their group is going to be.
Then Herterona arrives and presents the missive and box. The leader of the Emerald Talons takes them from her and nods.
"Thank you." the human blade singer says and proceeds to open her envelope to read the message within.
Milo d20+16=25 d20+16=31 Thursday February 1st, 2007 7:44:58 PM
Out of habit, Milo casually inspects the box and envelopes for possible traps before opening either. He begins with the box either way, opening it to view its contents before following up with the envelope. (OOC: Search checks DC 25 and 31 respectively)
Nick Valentine Thursday February 1st, 2007 8:42:32 PM
"I'm not surprised, with this crowd," Nick quietly answers Ve's comment on some folk looking scared. "You don't see a gathering like this every day. And we have Parnoth to arrive yet, if I remember rightly?"
He's about to comment further on the Gargul cleric when Dahlia arrives. His face breaks into a grin. "You look very nice," is all he gets to say before Sturtavent bestows his gifts. Nick accepts the box with grateful thanks. He'll look for a cue from some of the others before he opens his.
Mordrid Thursday February 1st, 2007 9:44:01 PM
The ranger watches with raised brows as many of the Platinum and Talon females arrive to the party; some with unexpected partners by their side. By Domi, this group was designed for breeding, not fighting. Well the old ranger was retired now. Doubtful that he would be invited to baby-sit the warrens.
The ranger receives his grey box with a nod of appreciation. As if no one is watching, he catches Valdor's eye and raises his box as if to say, "Lookie what I got!" Mordrid looks at Sturtevant, waiting to catch his attention; and shakes the box at his ear like a child on holiday. - wink -
The ranger watches with some satisfaction as Milo examines his box. Now that's more like it.
Corialote and Amarth Thursday February 1st, 2007 10:19:08 PM
Cori looks to Lady Herterona with a smile and nods her head. She takes the box and cuts a bow to both her and Lord Sturdevant. "I am honored." Unable to do much with the box she gently holds it in her hands before her. She feels weird holding a box at an event like this but cannot see much else to do.
Glancing to Valdora she has an idea. "Do you like horses my dear?" She figures she might like a partner on her venture into breeding horses and who better than Valdor's daughter. "I have been thinking of buying good breeding stock...would you like to go into business with me?" She does not bother to ask Valdor as she is old enough to make this decision without her father.
Amarth gives what could be considered a chuckle as he takes to the air to find a better place to view the surroundings. Maybe a chandelier would be a good place and he finds one near the middle of the room.
Gunther Thursday February 1st, 2007 10:47:46 PM
The warrior looks first at the box and then the envelope. Hmmmmm...what to do...what to do... Since no one else was opening them, Gunther bows low to Herterona and then hangs on to the items until it's appropriate to open them.
Tugging gently at his collar, Gunther slowly takes in the crowd as he travels toward wherever they are to be seated. Gulping, Gunther keeps reminding himself. Just keep your mouth shut and smile....mouth shut and smile... He plasters a rather unconvencing smile on his face as he walks along.
Valdor Friday February 2nd, 2007 1:50:11 AM
Valdor chuckles at the Undead Hunter's joke. He got it and understood what he meant. At that level of power, it was hard not to take over a room, even if completely unintentional. He accepts his box after Cori gets hers, then bows to the young lady and then back to Sturdevant.
He makes sure they pass near enough to Dahlia to whisper,"Good grief. I've seen more clothing than you and Cori have on at an oil wrestling event. But, you both look fabulous!"
Since Cori is talking to his daughter, and that really makes him happy, he moves over to Gunther. While he's walking, he wonders if she's noticed a difference in his and Cori's relationship since they left to go after Lathiese.
When he gets to Gunther and K'Nara, he smiles and says ,"Lady, you look stunning. And Gunther, you look great as well. Clean up nicely, I would add. Hey, don't worry about all these people. This is your party and ours, and THEY are the guests. You're both allowed and expected to make mistakes, so rest easy and don't worry yourself. It has taken many years of being around people of this authority to get used to it. It'll come with time, so just be yourself. That's what got you this recognition."
He moves among the other Talons and pretty much gives them the same encouragement. No sense in letting them feel beneath anyone here, because they are not.
Falin Friday February 2nd, 2007 3:15:34 AM
As the box and envelope are delivered to him he looks at the beauty of Herterona and he blushes we he takes them from her. Wordplay had never been his specialty. "Thank you mam." Is all he gets out.
He looks over the gifts without opening them and then finds Lord Sturdevant. Waling up to him he says, "Thank you for the gifts. I will be honset with you in case I am making a social mistake. I don't know if I am supposed to bow, shake your hand, or nod my head."
Lian Friday February 2nd, 2007 10:48:48 AM
The monk sits and listens to the sorceress, or if she's not speaking, he'll make feeble conversation to keep her attention on him.
Shirri the Hooded Friday February 2nd, 2007 11:35:19 AM
"Fie, my lord...hast thou no sense of celebration...?" a soft voice from Mordrid's past teases him in a musical tone. He feels something plop upon his head--a hat, it seems. The hat is firmly adjusted and the bounty hunter from Osto suddenly finds himself dressed in rather stylish black and gray soft leather clothing.
Well...it LOOKS like it, anyway (thanks to a Hat of Disguise).
Mordrid finds himself looking into the amethyst eyes of a fair-skinned, raven-maned half-elf female whose lower face is shielded by a sheer veil. She is dressed in white silk with gold doves embroidered on it.
"Time hast treated thee well, my lord Mordrid." she says. "Mine heart soars to see thee."
The ranger's immediately embarrased to have not bathed, shaved, or otherwise made any attempt not to stink.
"Where have you been?"
Rossko and Raven Friday February 2nd, 2007 12:54:06 PM
Entering the room is a large man in black linens and heavy black boots. His heavy mane hangs across his face. Before him he pushes a chair on wheels.
Sitting hunched in the chair is a white haired man; his disheveled beard is long and his brow hangs thickly across his eyes. A carved staff sits cross-ways in his lap. The old man wears a robe of burnt umber that's familar to some.
The driver of the wheel-chair waves to the crowd as he enters, "Hi everyone, Rossko wanted to come see what all the fuss was about."
The old man sits motionless with his back hunched over and his head bowed.
Brother Jandar(SteveH) Friday February 2nd, 2007 1:58:27 PM
Brother Jandar enters wearing simple brown robes and no adornment other than his earring which,unlike Valdor's dangling one, is simply stuck to his earlobe and his symbol of Domi is present on a chain hanging from his neck. He looks very unhero-like, and is built like an average human. His appearance would give any bully the feeling he's an easy target. His eyes however, have a look of confidence and strength.
He nods to many, hugs some, shakes a few hands and then finds Ve and Nicholas. He shakes their hands and says,"I'm glad those miscreants finally have a couple of strong clerics to keep them alive. My time travelling with Mordrid and the Golds was mostly spent asking Domi to heal wounds or occasionally bring one back from Gargul's realm."
He leans in close to Ve and whispers,"I know that you and Valdor ended up alone against the black dragon. Thanks for keeping him alive. He's a bit headstrong and sometimes forgets that there are lots of things that can kill him still out there. He may not say so, but I know he appreciates your presence."
He glances around and then asks even quieter,"Who's the drow with him? And how did he not kill her?"
Gunther Friday February 2nd, 2007 2:18:29 PM
The warrior nods at Valdor's sage advice and even manages a much more convincing smile. But as the old adage goes...Much easier said than done. Still, the cat trainer relaxes visibly and begins to scan the crowd. Since there is no one he knows, Gunther occupies the down time by people watching....taking in the differences in peoples accents...the way they move...the way they hold themselves. In some ways, the races were even more entertaining than kitties.
DM Jan OOC Friday February 2nd, 2007 3:44:24 PM
((Keep it going folks. Jerry's poorly. I have to go out this afternoon, but I'll pick things up when I get back home. Jim will post, also, so we're good.))
Ingrge / Dahlia Friday February 2nd, 2007 6:14:26 PM
Standing next to Falin, Ingrge watches as the masses of people arrive and the list gets more and more impressive. As Sturtevant and Lady Herterona arrive and hand him the box and envelope he gives them a quick look over and then gives a polite bow to both. As they move on Ingrge turns to his companion.
So Falin what do you suppose these are, indicating the box and enveloope?
He looks up for a moment as Rossko and Raven make their way into the room. He gives a polite and respectful nod of the head in greeting to the old mage who had gifted him with his magical staff so many years ago. That though of course took him back and he began thinking about Grey and Joe and he wondered if they might make an appearance.
****
Dahlia smiles brightly as Nick complements her attire and then curtesies as She recieves her gifts from Sturtevant. As Valdor walks by and comments she smiles and winks at him and returns his repartee with some of her own. "And My Lord Valdor, Love looks good on you. You have not shone so brightly in many a moon."
Sturdevant Friday February 2nd, 2007 8:13:23 PM
Herterona doles out the gifts and then returns to the High Lord Mayor's shadow by the bar, she does smile at all those she passes.
Sturdevant sees that some of the hero's have opened the gifts and letter and his eyes seem to twinkle and there is just a hint of a stifled smile.
Sturdevant clears his throat and take a healthy swig of wine. "Welcome everyone. As most of you have recieved a gift delivered by the lovley Herterona." Sturdevant stands aside for a moment and Herterona curtsies gracefully for those assembled.
Sudevant continues "This is truely a momentous day. We have some many hero's in attendance. Those that have reached the pinnacle, or some may say the edge of the abyss and returned. There are also those among us that are ready to take their place as defends of the rhelm. These gifts are small tokens of appreciation for years of toil and sacrifice and for those that are setting foot on a dangerous path. Lets hear it for the Platinum Dragons and all they have accomplished and the Emerald Talons who have all the potenial in the Wold."
Sturdevant raises his glass "Here Here, Champions All!"
After the toast dies down "And to those that made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can all stand here." Sturdevant bows his head lost in his own thoughts.
--------------------------
The grey box (Platinum Dragons) each contain a platinum flagon of amazing design. The bottom of the flagon is held by a platinum dragon and his tail curls up to form the handle. There are countless gem chips for the scales of the dragon that all catch the light. On the surface of the flagon are storm clouds that actually flow across the surface. A dragon can be seen from time to time flying amongst the clouds.
It is truely a work of art, a master piece.
The green box and sealed letter (Emerald Talons). The letter is an invitation to dine with Sturdevant one week from tonight to discuss the future of the Wold and the Emerald Talons place in it. Dinner is at 7 pm at the High Lord Mayor's Manor.
The green box contains a fist sized uncut emerald, with a note : In the begining everything is potential, it takes ones lifes work and good deeds to chip away until one finds the greatness contained within.
All of the emerald chunks are approximately one pound.
Aeralia d20+17=34 Friday February 2nd, 2007 10:28:25 PM
Aeralia smiles and graciously accepts the gift, setting it aside to be opened later. She is vibrant, alive, and pleasant, much different then her demeanor during their adventure. If she did have any fears or misgivings, as Ve saw, she did very well at hiding them. (OOC: Bluff check 34 to hide any anxieties or apprehensions, if she has any)
She returns her attention to her escort, answering his questions without pause. "Family? Well, I actually never really knew my parents, or If I had another other brothers or sisters. I'm told I was found on a doorstep of an orphanage in Plateau City. I guess the people who were there said it was my mother that left me, but they never found her."
"Nothing ever really felt like family as I was growing up, either. I was often alone. I suppose I was normal enough as a youngster, but once I was six or seven, I started to have to move around alot. Wierd stuff would always happen, and I was to blame, but I couldn't control it, you know?" To demonstrate, the young sorceress extends her palm outward, a spark of light quickly growing into an illusionary rose, spinning so delicately for a few moments, then wilting and decaying as quickly as it had sprung into life. From the wilted pelts a haunting face rises, mouth open in a silent moan, before quickly vanishing into nothingness.
She shrugs her bare shoulders lightly, continuing. "I guess I scared some of the other kids, and the care takers too. So I got shuffled around alot, when they couldn't handle me anymore. A few times I didn't have anywhere else to go, for a week or so, while they tried to find someone to take me in."
She smiles again towards Lian, a genuine happiness she didn't show much of on their expedition. "But enough boring you, what of yourself? What of your family?"
~~~~~~
OOC: Silent, Still Silent Image used in her story.
Shirri the Hooded Friday February 2nd, 2007 11:50:04 PM
The sad-yet-hopeful smile on Shirri's lips is shadowed by the material of her veil, but it's clearly reflected in the depths of her amethyst eyes.
"Mine heartfelt apologies, my lord," the cleric says, "I hath been attending duties most critical to the temple of Flower. 'Twas never mine intention to worry thee nor let so much time pass without seeing thee again. The temple officiants hath granted me a boon--I may choose the location of my next posting..." Her palm cups one of his cheeks.
"My lord, I wouldst be at thy side shouldst thou allow me the honor."
Mordrid Saturday February 3rd, 2007 1:38:08 AM
Mordrid pulls Shirri close in a worm embrace. Whispering in her ear, "I'm not truly convinced all this madness is over yet. You are by my side tonight. But my life is dedicated to honor and country. You know this. I may be no paladin. Far from it. But my only salvation has been service to humanity, and of course... keeping that man alive." The ranger gently turns Shirri by the shoulder and raises his glass towards Valdor. "The legend lives on." Mordid's throat drops out from under him in painful happiness. "I have succeeded." The ranger fights back a tear, as all his life work is in front of him, happy, soon to be wed, and reunited with child. Valdor's happiness is evident. And it shoots Mordrid's emotions through the roof.
Turning back to Shirri, he looks deep into her eyes. "I have to give all this up don't I; I must let it go?"
Mordrid clears his throat, with Shirri draped beneath his arm. Ladies and gentlemen... I would like to make a toast. Talons!..."
He raises his mug; his new masterful mug.
"If ever I could give one word of advice to our new heroes... your leader is the embodiment of the blood that flows through you all. Bring glory to your chosen leader, and you bring both glory and honor to yourself. The lamb watches over the lion. And the lion and the lamb live on through eternity; as legends."
"Thank you Valdor for saving me. Thank you Valdor for immortality."
"Here! Here!"
Whispering again in Shirri's ear, "And so that part of my life is over."
Gunther Saturday February 3rd, 2007 10:09:49 AM
An idea enters Gunther's head like a burrowing worm and he shifts his stance to where he is close to Milo. Nudging him, he attempts to attract his attention. "Milo...I've been tinking of someting for a vile. I need your help. I'd like to set up a netvork of spies to vatch over Borden. Not dat I doubt him mind you...but I'd like to be able to steer him in de right direction should he start to make de wrong decisions." Gunther winks at the halfling. "Anyvay...I know dat's your area of expertise and I tought dat you could help me ven ve get back home."
Falin Saturday February 3rd, 2007 3:17:40 PM
Falin turns to Ingrge and says, "I guess it is some type of a reward for making it into the club. In the early days of my youth we used to do something similar to award milestones in life. We would receive a seed and then be able to plant and nourish that seed until it grew. It gave us a living and almost permanent monument to mark that event. I had several until they were razed by Parnoth. I am glad he did not arrive."
"I have to admit to you that I feel a little out of place here." He looks over the room and continues, "I do not know who most of these people are. I have been gone and focused on my own revenge for so long that I have let the last 60 years slip away into nothing but training. I see our friends here with mates who love them and I can't help but feel like I am missing out on something. I don't even know what to do when trying to court someone."
The toast brought by Mordrid seems to jog Falin from his train of thought and he raises his glass to the sky as well.
Lian Saturday February 3rd, 2007 5:47:26 PM
More or less uninterested in opening the rewards, Lian listens to the sorceress. "Me? Well, not much to say. I had a strict father, a patient and calm mother. No siblings. Closest thing to siblings I have is Merlot, my old horse and best friend and my peers at the monestary. We lived in the northern and deep Culverwood where my father grew grapes for the local monks. When I got curious about the world and a handful for the parents, father sent me to the monastery for some discipline and training. Soon I was ready for more. Even the monks said I needed out and I had potential. For what, I didn't know. I know now and I'm sure they knew too. My Master heard about a band of adventurers in the area and decided to see if they could show me out of the forest and travel together for a bit. Brother Bertram told of Domi and his courage. I had heard a bit of his works in the temple, but didn't care much for religion. But things change, you see alot and you change. The rest, as they say, is history. I haven't seen the family or monastery since. I miss it. So quiet and unassuming. I wonder some days whether Parnoth and his troupe destroyed the village and monastery. The monks would have fought to the last and father would surely die defending the vines and mother. In 150 years, you learn much, but it is impossible to learn it all. Thats what I have taken from my experience from the Talons... Dragons now I guess. Still learning. Life is funny..." He trails off, just staring at Aeralia with his piercing green eyes.
Valdor Sunday February 4th, 2007 1:55:06 AM
Valdor is examining his new gift with a lokk of wonder when Mordrid makes his toast. He simply smiles and nods at his brother's kind words. After the toast, he lifts his goblet and says,"And the leader is only as good as those who support and follow them! Immortality awaits anyone brave enough...aye, and foolish enough to pursue it!"
He leans over to Cori and says,"I have been with travelling with this man for about twenty years now, and ever has he made me look good. I would be little more than a good sword wielder if not for him." He tries his best to keep tears from running, as he knows he will have to be strong soon enough.
Ve Mundr Sunday February 4th, 2007 10:32:19 AM
Ve smiles at Brother Jander "Aye, little changed in your absesne. I suspect Mordrid and Valdor didn't want me to hear stories about you later and feel like I missed out." Ve gives a long stare towards the pair and when he catches thier eye he raises his glass and continues talking to Jandar, "Her name is Cori and she was with Valdor before I arrived. I have little to contribute there, but the mighty Valdor certainly has no defenses when it comes to her and she very likewise."
Ve salutes his glass to the toast to the talons and to both Mordrid and Valdor's toasts as well. There was little to add at that moment and there were likely grand speeches in the works.
Milo Sunday February 4th, 2007 2:46:49 PM
Milo's eyes widen at the sight of the emerald, which he makes disappear to a hidden pouch, quick as a wink. The letter he reads slowly, and then folds carefully back into its envelope before making it disappear in a like fashion. Without warning, the halfling plants a firm kiss straight onto Olana's mouth, "Come my love... let us go and be honored. There will come a day soon, when we shall honor each other." The halfling rogue bows deeply to the elf maiden, and with a wink and smile, takes her by the hand.
Dae'lin Shadowstep (and Bryndal) Sunday February 4th, 2007 2:57:09 PM
Appearing amidst the crowd in the hall, as if from nowhere, Dae'lin strides purposefully up to Valdor, bowing to the floor on one knee. "My lord and dear friend, this is an occasion that I dear not miss... on this plane... or any other." The elf sorcerer is resplendant in blue and silver to match his long, braided platinum hair, and sea blue eyes. A flash of silver plays across his eyes as he smiles, and Bryndal, his psuedo-dragon familiar, makes her presence known with a playful flick of her tail.
Nick Monday February 5th, 2007 12:09:19 AM
"Jandar! Good to see you," Nick exclaims as the priest of Domi appears. When talk moves toward Valdor and Cori, he adds to Ve's observations. "I think Valdor has finally met his match," he says with a good-natured grin.
His thoughts during the toasts give his thoughts a more serious edge. There was a future unrolling before them all in this room, like a long carpet. Was it time to stand down? He looks over the beautiful gift given to them by the Lord mayor, a lovely thing. Would it now stand alongside a staff, a flail, and a pair of well-worn boots, in a room somewhere?
Olana Monday February 5th, 2007 12:14:50 AM
The elf looks in astonishment at the emerald, then bows and says thank you to the elf who gave it to her. Wow...
Olana returns Milo's kiss, and adds a smile after his invitation and emerald seem to disappear. "You know sometimes I wonder where you..." she hesitates, seeng Gunther approach. The man seemed to want to discuss something with Milo.
She shrugs, content to melt into the gathered throng for the moment, until whatever was supposed to begin - began.
She glances over toward Mordrid. She still wished to talk with the ranger, but not when he was talking to his wife. Hopefully, there was going to be time later.
The toasts make her feel vaguely self-conscious, but presumably they were supposed to take them on the chin, accept gracefully and get on with it.
Valdora Monday February 5th, 2007 12:33:08 AM
Blushing awkwardly after the compliment, Valdor's daughter listens intently to what Cori has to say. "I LOVE horses," the girl says by way of reply, "But I don't have any - " She stops short. Money. The lack of it. Not someting to discuss in this company, she suspects. Changing tack, she lowers her voice so the conversation won't carry. "What kind of horses?" she asks.
Out of the corner of her eye she sees Raven wheeling Rossko in. In her spare time, she'd spent most of it exploring the castle, and whenever she'd stumbled across the old man, he'd always seemed to be in a comotose state. There was always that feeling though - that in reality, he knew exactly what was going on.
Arrivals continue (DM Jan) Monday February 5th, 2007 12:40:49 AM
Others arrive, swelling the numbers. The castle staff drift back and forth unobtrusively from the kitchen, with trays of drinks, platters of artfully prepared snacks. Any particular requests are catered for, at speed, with the minimum of fuss.
The Emperor of Aisildur was still to arrive, and of course Parnoth had been mentioned as a possible guest, also.
After the ring of toasts, a sense of anticipation begins to hang in the room.
Valdor Monday February 5th, 2007 1:35:41 AM
Valdor's smile almost takes in his ears when Dae'lin shows up. He introduces him to Cori saying,"This, my dear, is the second most rash person you will ever meet. Maybe fourth if I include myself, you, and Dahlia. However, he is an absolute charmer and will do his best to sweep you off your feet, so watch his lines.
Dae'lin, this is Cori. As you can see, a drow wizardess. I would watch my step around her...she'll fry your toes off and feed them to you for dinner if you misstep with her. She and I, well, we're newly into our relationship and I'm a bit awkward as it's been a long time since I even thought of such things. However, my heart aches when she's not beside me and that is enough."

Lian Monday February 5th, 2007 12:46:09 PM
The monk finally decides to take notice of the gifts. Hmm, a green lump of stone(likely a gemstone of sorts) and an invitation. Okay? Thinks the monk, putting the whole lot back into the box. ------------------ The green box and sealed letter (Emerald Talons). The letter is an invitation to dine with Sturdevant one week from tonight to discuss the future of the Wold and the Emerald Talons place in it. Dinner is at 7 pm at the High Lord Mayor's Manor.
The green box contains a fist sized uncut emerald, with a note : In the begining everything is potential, it takes ones lifes work and good deeds to chip away until one finds the greatness contained within. --------------------- (I'm afraid I may have missed a gift or two, did I?) All of the emerald chunks are approximately one pound.
Sturdevant Monday February 5th, 2007 5:23:39 PM
THe High Lord Mayor raps his hand on the bar to get everyones attention "Attention please. We need to move the festivaties to the great Hall. If you will all follow me."
Sturdevant quickly turns and puts his hands behind his back. Herterona gets in line behind her Mayor, moonlight dress flowing behind hed and her leather binder clutched in left hand.
Studevant moves over to the large double doors and casts them open, he then motions with both hands to the mezzanine and an ochestra begins to play an upbeat tune. There are sprites flying around while playing flutes, several satyr's on the pipes, all manner of horns are being played by a groups of colorful elves and humans (each trying to outdo the other), the violins are being played by a quartet of dwarves that are also stamping on some contraption that are banging drums and symbols, finally there is a tiny halfling playing a huge harp and they are stairs for him to run up and down to reach all the cords.
The instruments seem a very strange combination, but the tune is very nice.
Once everyone enters the hall a chorous starts up and it is filled will all manner of man and beast, from the small halflings and gnomes all the way up to centaurs and even a very deep bass of an ogre.
It is an amazing scene, as the hall is decorated with streamers of green and platinum. There is even a full sized tapestry hanging from the mezzine of each of the heros, bordered in green for he Talons and Grey for the Dragons.
There are scores of spectators gathered and seated as the group walks down the center of the hall.
Milo Monday February 5th, 2007 7:54:10 PM
As Olana fades from view, Milo zeros in on Gunther. Hearing the man's words, "Yeah... sure. Um... excuse me for being a bit distracted, but who is this Borden, and why are we keeping tabs on him? Just curious mind you. It would take very little effort to set up a few pairs of eyes to keep track of his movements however." The halfling rogue smiles ambiguously. "We'll talk more after the party Gunther... to see exactly what you have in mind. It might take some doing, but I think it is about time that I started a little guild of my own... this might be a good test of such recruits as I might want to be in our less than noticeable employ." The halfling winks, and then nudges Gunther, "Now if you don't mind... the ladies await." Milo slips through the crowd after Olana.
Dae'lin Shadowstep Monday February 5th, 2007 7:59:37 PM
Dae'lin smiles broadly at Cori, and bows deeply, "It is my sincere pleasure to meet so handsome a woman as yourself. Any friend of Valdor's is a friend to me as well." Turning to Valdor, "I would only say that I see what needs doing... when it needs to be done. It isn't my fault that I tend to expedite my decision making process." Dae'lin winks and smiles broadly, "I hear you just bagged a big black dragon yourself."
Corialote and Amarth Monday February 5th, 2007 8:00:36 PM
Cori opens the package and gives a gasp. The flagon is one of the most beautiful pieces that she has ever seen. She could never bring herself to use it, she can already tell that. She once again gives a bow to both Lady Herterona and Lord Sturdevant. Tears have formed in her eyes with the honor that has been bestowed upon her, though few may know it.
Closing the box she turns to Valdor with a smile. "And I would not have most likely had the chance to meet you...though you make yourself look pretty good." There is a flirtatiousness to her tone and the way she looks him over as her smile widens.
She lays a hand upon the young Valdora's shoulder and gives it a light squeeze. "Do not think of the finances...that will do for later...I am looking into some fine breeding stock...in fact made a deal for a nice one a while back when he is ready. A hearty horse built for endurance, maybe for war or for show...we will have to see." She makes it a point to make it obvious to the young girl that she is a partner and all she has to do is say yes.
She does turn her attention back to the things at hand. Especially the elf that has been introduced to her just now. She gives him a charming smile and hold out her hand lightly for him. "It is a pleasure to meet a friend of Valdors...though he makes light of his own talents." A glance up and down of the man tells her that he could be charming but not with Valdor around. She wraps an arm around Valdor, not out of protection or for the same, but just for the closeness of it all. "You my deareast heart should know that it is more than honey words that takes a womans' heart...especially this one." Her eyes lock with Valdors for only a few minutes but there are volumes said with no words. There is a promise, a show of love and also an open challenge to the man that she dares to call her own.
Mordrid Monday February 5th, 2007 9:04:20 PM
Mordrod smiles at Shirri before letting go for a brief moment. He can be seen Greeting many guests including Jandar, Rossko and Raven.
"Dae'lin, great to see you my friend. We could have used you these last few seasons." The ranger gives Dae'lin a great big hug, and points over to Shirri. "Look who else is here."
Gunther Monday February 5th, 2007 10:29:08 PM
Gunther nods at Milo. "Yes...later." Relaxing even more as most of the attention is focused on the Platinum Dragons, Gunther follows along beside K'nara. So very different from orc parties...that was for sure. Still from the smell of things the food just might be better.
Shirri the Hooded Tuesday February 6th, 2007 12:29:00 AM
The delicate half-elf gives Dae'lin a graceful curtsey.
"Well met, Lord Dae'lin." Shirri says. "Time hath treated thee well." The cleric then curtseys before Valdor.
"My Lord Valdor." she greets him and turns her amethyst eyes Cori's way, a canny look to their purple depths. "Doth mine eyes see truly? Hast thy life of adventure been blessed by the auspices of love most true..?" The raven-haired half elf's speech holds a teasing tone, and yet is nonetheless warm as Shirri regards the Drow by Valdor's side. "Wouldst thou introduce us, then..?" The priestess of Flower nods her veiled head in the direction of the now-opened doors to the great hall. "As time doth permit..?"
K'Nara Tuesday February 6th, 2007 12:30:02 AM
K'Nara looks about, her sharp eyes noting the orchestra and the arrival of Platinum Dragons that have not been heard from for some time.
"Where is Thaeri?" she asks. "I'd like to make sure that she's comfortable before starting this whole thing..."
Falin Tuesday February 6th, 2007 12:30:17 AM
Falin follows the rest of the crowd as it moves into the great hall. The room takes his breath away. Never had he seen such elegance for a diner.
Valdor Tuesday February 6th, 2007 12:34:46 AM
The large half elf hugs Shirri and responds,"Yes, your eyes tell you truly. I have found love finally, other than that of my family, of course. In this world we live, where death, betrayal, and so many other evils abound...I have found my heart's partner. This, Shirri, is Cori, a wizardess of no small power. Ironic that, for most of my life, I have not cared for magic users and absolutely hated drow. However, some of my best friends are magic users now and my love is both magic user and drow. Funny how meeting the right person can change your perception of things, eh?"
Valdor smiles warmly at Cori and returns the embrace. After Sturdevant speaks, Valdor says,"It's showtime. I'll see you inside the meeting hall. my dear. Dae'lin, we'll talk later...I'd like to hear about Ailsidur."
He moves to K'Nara and says quietly,"We will need the Talons to wait out here. We will introduce you each one at a time when you enter. You'll be expected to speak later, so you might give some thought to what you will say. Of course, I will lead into your speech so you won't have any problem knowing when to speak. Just be yourself and remember, everyone here is either a dragon or leader of a country, but they all remember very well the day they had to stand before such an assembly and speak for the first time. Noone expects you to be perfect, just be yourself and all will be fine. If you stumble, I will be there to help you along."
With that, he moves into his customary seat at the center of the table. He motions for Cori to sit at his left, and makes sure noone tries to take Mordrid's seat to his right. He watches each person coming in and sizes them up unintentionally.
(edited by Steve Hott-three of us posted about the same time, and I missed Shirri's comments)
The Final Guests... (DM Jan) Tuesday February 6th, 2007 1:16:52 AM
Three men and a woman enter just as the procession is about to begin, are announced by one of the pages, and join the parade at the rear.
"His Excellency the Emperor of Aisildur, and Sister Toscani, priestess of Ga'al!"
Both of these figures appear to be in their middle years, both have regal bearing and garments that reflect their status. Walking together, they seem to be a little wary of one another, the obvious reason being that one was heartseeded, one was not.
"His Grand Excellency, Supreme Ruler of the Emerald Kingdom, Par - what? Oh - and Saviour of the Wold - Parnoth!"
Parnoth's human guise is in the form that the Platinums got to know very well not too long ago - that of a tall, robust, broad-shouldered, no frills but impeccably dressed nontheless, country gentleman, with red, wavy hair and intense, brooding eyes. There is currently a flash of green in those eyes, suggesting that his mood is not particularly joyous. But whatever the matter, he's doing his best to brush it aside. Beside him, unannounced - is Mop, gasping for breath and doing his best to keep up while carrying something in a velvet covered box.
On seeing Sturtavent up ahead, the green dragon's eyes return to grey, and a slight smile creeps up over his features. This was a bit of a coup for Parnoth, because now, that jumped up, insufferable gold wouldn't be the only one with a renowned adventuring group on his turf. In fact - if the Platinums retired, then that would deflate Sturtavent's status to a more bearable level. Like a cat who's just stolen the cream, Parnoth strides forth, waving at the crowd.
Falin Tuesday February 6th, 2007 2:09:02 AM
When the newest arrivials are announced Falin locks his gaze onto Parnoth. Never has the elf felt so much utter anger towards any one person. He clentches his fists and breathes for a moment to let the mood pass. If he still had his affiction their is no telling what would have happened.
Gunther Tuesday February 6th, 2007 8:12:15 AM
Gunther nods at K'nara. "She can enter vith us..." Putting his fingers in his mouth, Gunther lets out a shrill whistle.
After a few seconds, the black panther comes slinking through the room. Though warry of the sheer number of people present, the cat looks up proudly at her trainer. There is a low growl which is instantly translated by Gunther's wreath...Those humans you set up to watch me have no idea what they're doing...but their food is very good.
Ve Mundr sense motive d20+16=34 spot d20+16=27 Tuesday February 6th, 2007 8:41:53 AM
The cleric and Protector of Domi mingles some, but for the most part stands next to Father Nicholas, nodding politely and answering small talk. Ever a keen observer, little escapes his notice and the subtle gestures, shifts of stance and eye movments speak volumes to him.
The call soon enough is made to move to the feast hall and Ve flows in with the others and locates a seat across and slightly down the table from Valdor. The last of the guests enters and Ve takes in the Ga'al cleric to his full measure. Parnoth also captures his interest keenly. He had little dealing personally with the ruler of the Emerald kingdom, but the soon to be Emerald Dragons had plenty. Let us hope they have wisdom enough to temper their passion
Lian Tuesday February 6th, 2007 1:17:52 PM 'I thought I smelled something foul. The dragon have has the audacity to show his face here?' Thinks the monk, hoping the lizard can 'hear' his thoughts.
Leaning over to the sorceress, "I think you may have little knowledge of Parnoth, so watch him and learn why we dislike him so much. He, I'm sure, is the reason I haven't heard anything from my village. He is the reason refugees have sought out the Talons. Villages are razed to the ground if he wants the land and the people won't submit. He puts on a good show... supportive, saviour, etcetera."
'Who is that gift for I wonder?'
Olana Tuesday February 6th, 2007 5:57:47 PM
"What did Gunther want? Or is it a secret?" Olana asks Milo, a smile on her face.
That smile is rapidly dropped as the procession begins, and things don't get any more cheerful as Parnoth arrives.
By all the blessed trees in Culverwood, did they have to do this? She grips Milo's arm a little too tightly as they walk along.
Still, there was nothing to be afraid of, right? And although she'd rather bathe in tar than indulge in a lot of pomp and ceremony, she supposed that it was time to get used to it.
Father Nicholas Tuesday February 6th, 2007 6:06:48 PM
"Not that I think anything terrible is going to happen," Nick observes quietly, as he and Ve Mundr make their way along in the procession, "but it might be an idea for us to keep an eye on Parnoth and the Talons. I'm seeing one or two antagonistic glances and it wouldn't be the first time Parnoth has put his foot in it and set something off."
He glances in another direction, and his pupils narrow slightly. ...and it'll keep my mind off that Ga'alian cleric.
Dahlia / Ingrge Tuesday February 6th, 2007 6:09:05 PM
Dahlia stays close to Nic and Ve as they make their way toward the dining room and then suddenly stops and sends a somewhat distressed query Valdor's way that the other plats and golds can hear through their ear pieces.
"Hey Valdor, did we just go and leave a particular mentally scarred, scared and injured young silver dragon out in the wild by herself?"
*******
Ingrge continues his conversation with Falin as dignitaries arrive and mingle with the others. Oh I fully understand Falin, I have never cared much for public appearances or accolades for that matter. I much prefer to be considered a person of non-consequence. It allows me more freedon for the things that matter and allows me to watch. You do not know how much I hated it when I was having to lead the Talons when K'nara was gone.
Then just as he mentions that he was glad Parnoth wasn't in attendance, Ingrge jabs Falin in the ribs causing Falin to look up and see his most hated foe.
"You had to know he wasn't going to miss this. I am sure he feels he still has us under his control somehow."
As Parnoth makes his way by Ingrge catches his eye and nods just slightly as if aknowledging a person of equal social status and then simply goes back to his conversation.
Corialote and Amarth Tuesday February 6th, 2007 8:19:01 PM
Cori flashes Dae'lin one of her winning smiles and gives him a bow. "You flatter me sir." Her eyes twinkle as she knows the effect that her dress will have on some of the closer ones, not all of them certainly. Glancing around she does sigh and then nods her head. She is hoping that this will get underway soon...she has other plans than this.
Cori glances to the half-elf Shirri as she appears upon the arm of Mordrid. She laughs lightly as Shirri speaks and then nods her head. "It takes a strong woman to love and keep these types of men in line." She glances to Mordrid and gives him a nod. "You have a fine catch of your own...I call him friend as readily as the rest of the Platinums." It is the same as saying that she has heard from Valdor himself about his past hate for drow and Mordrid's as well...and it makes little difference.
Looking to the large doors her eyes take on a more business sense as she searches the crowd. She slips her arm into Valdor's and moves along with him, but tries to keep his daughter with them...unless she has shown interest in some young man. She takes her seat at his left and then continues to watch.
She notes and points out the Ga'al priest to Valdor. "We might want to watch our Father Nick." Though she does not know the story in whole she has an idea that at least there is bad blood there.
She cannot keep a straight face as Parnoth is introduced and has to cover her own mouth with her hand. Still anyone that takes notice will surely notice her laughter, even hidden partially by her hand. Through her earpiece she sends a message to all the others. "That one is a pompous egomaniac. He also looks a little too smug. You think our retirement is giving him a big head." Her last comment is kept to herself but it brings a smile to her face....we could come out of retirement to cut a loose thread.
Amarth has followed the group into the hall as well. He is currently perched high above on a beam. For a moment he thinks about sending Lord Parnoth a nice little present but curbs his desire. It is good enough for him that he could have done it.
Mordrid Tuesday February 6th, 2007 8:41:00 PM
Mordrid takes Shirri's hand and makes his way over to his seat at the right hand of Valdor; putting Shirri of course at the right hand of the ranger.
Along the way Mordrid makes it a point to pass by Parnoth. He quietly says, "Greetings Lord Parnoth. I don't know what's in the box, but I kindly recommend you tred lightly. It would be wise to act appropriately this fine evening. And I would have a word with you tonight regarding Osto." The ranger points to his eye as he walks away as if to say 'I'm on to you.'
Gunther Tuesday February 6th, 2007 10:08:48 PM
Gunther looks over at K'nara as Parnoth arrives. A lot of bad blood between this group and the dragon... Gunther chuckles, wondering whether he's going to have to be the "sane" one of the group and shut down any potential fights.
Milo Tuesday February 6th, 2007 11:29:40 PM
"Ooh... he just wants to set up a super secret spy network... nothing out of the ordinary." Milo grins and then winces as Olana clutches his arm. He pats her hand reassuringly, "I think the barbeque is after the proceedings... they don't plan to cook us before that." The halfling chuckles at his own wit, and proudly escorts Olana along. Seeing Parnoth, Milo speaks loudly, "Wow... they will let about ANYBODY into this event." His smile at the brooding dragon is more a dare then anything else.
Sturdevant Wednesday February 7th, 2007 12:03:50 AM
The High Lord Mayor watches the Ga'alian cleric very carefully as he takes his seat. It seems that Sturdevant wants to catch the clerics attention and at least make eye contact. Sturdevant seems a bit agitated.
Herterona goes and sits directly behind Sturdevant and places her leather binder neatly in her lap.
Valdor Wednesday February 7th, 2007 12:33:58 AM
Valdor, seeing that everyone is basically present that was expected, stands up and booms out,"Ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of the Platinum Dragons of the Dragon Consortium, we thank you for your presence this fine evening. I trust that you have had refreshment and have found it suitable to your needs. If you need anything, just kindly tell one of our waiters what you require, and they will attend to your needs!
We have many special guests here tonight, and I am amazed and honored that so many dignitaries from afar could make it tonight. As you all should know, this is a very special night for us. We have come together to recognize a fine group of adventurers who have shown the qualities that we, the Consortium, look for in a group who would become Dragons. Of course, not in the literal sense, but it is an honor bestowed upon only the finest collection of warriors, wizards, clerics, rogues, and others who have the special skills and the heart necessary to perform their objectives and an incredibly high level every day! But more on that later. Fresh from a joint victory with us over three red dragons and the black dragon known as Lathiese, I give you K'nara Illutu, the leader of the Emerald Talons!"
He begins to clap his hands and makes sure that everyone in his group, but only his group, hears in their earpiece,"Standing ovation, everyone. Let Parnoth squirm."
Ve Mundr Wednesday February 7th, 2007 9:27:13 AM
"Aye Nicholas, it may well be a good one at that. Antagonizing Parnoth to confrontation would put us all in a bad light." Ve pauses as he again looks to the Ga'alrian cleric. "That bt of advise goes to all of us I think." The last said almost as much to hiimself as to Father Nick.
For his part, Ve gives a deep nod to the ruler of the Emerald Kingdom. The cleric is more than a bit at odds on the reactions of those about towards the dragon. Surely they all realize any slights the dragon feels will be taken out upon the citizens of the very kingdom they claim to try and save. The High Lord Mayor invited him, he is the ruler of a nearby kingdom and guest. It the goal was to humiliate and then kill him, they could have simply left him the stone statue that he was and dealt with the monstrous swarm at that point. Why bother with....Valdor starts the official ceremonies with the introduction of K`Nara and Ve is glad for the break in his thoughts. He is on his feet in a fluid motion and nods approvingly as he applauds the entrance of the leader of the Emerald Talons.
Lian Wednesday February 7th, 2007 11:35:00 AM
When Lian hears Knara's name, he quickly stands, puts two fingers in his mouth and cat-calls loudly for their leader. When he's used up his last lung of air, he claps.
He glances at Parnoth briefly, then begins staring a hole in Mop.
Milo Wednesday February 7th, 2007 8:24:01 PM
Milo unconsciously squeezes Olana's hand in excited anticipation of what will happen next, though the halfling remains silent for the moment.
Parnoth (DM Jan) Wednesday February 7th, 2007 8:42:57 PM
Parnoth merely grunts in acknowledgement toward Mordrid, and leaves the diminutive Mop to handle the 'looking hurt and insulted' part. The big dragon is well used to events such as these AND Mordrid's needling.
In fact, a faint smile creeps across Parnoth's features as he watches the ranger take his place next to Valdor. Osto, the man had said.
It still amazes Parnoth that, after saving their fair town, its citizens had then tried to extort money from their rescuers, namely him and the Platinum Dragons. Money they had wanted. They had been quite insistant about it. Of course at the time, they thought he was human. Once Parnoth's true identity had been established, in no uncertain terms, then the negotiations had become much more agreeable.
Osto. Hmph. A dunghole, infested with gangsters, cuthroats, n'er do wells, scroungers, pick pockets, skivers, bullies, wretches, cheats, liars, blusterers, villains and morons. The best the human race had to offer. It's non-human scum were no better. Why is Parnoth smiling, therefore, toward a man who has possibly slighted him? He smiles because he knows where Mordrid comes from.
Alas, it is a fleeting moment. Valdor's trumpeting about dragon killing (again) sours Parnoth's mood, straight off. The big dragon applauds, just like all the others, but his eyes look toward the Plateau City Mayor, who's complicity and support has allowed these dragon-killers to grow and become so powerful. Sturtavent.... you're a bloody fool. One foot wrong and they'll turn on you like the savage dogs they are.
[ooc: scott: fantastic post Jan.] ((Thank you! :) ))
Corialote and Amarth Wednesday February 7th, 2007 9:14:49 PM
Cori stands when K'nara is introduced and holds a glass of wine in the air. She gives a bow of her head in respect for all of the Talons in turn. She waits a respectable amount of time before she takes a drink...a toast to the newest group. Silently she sees a new thorn in Parnoth's side and so he needs one.
Dahlia / Ingrge Wednesday February 7th, 2007 11:48:50 PM
Dahlia turns and rises as Valdor annonces the Talons leader and applauds along with the others though her mind is thinking back to the young silver they had left behind...
****
Ingrge, standing behind K'nara and Gunther, the grizzled elf seems to be chuckling to himself as Valdor talks about the saying of the dragons and then wonder to himself if Sturtevant is going to expect them to leave their tower and come live in Plateau city. That though begins to trouble him as he thinks of all that has been going on and he absent mindedly plays with the leather band he has on his right wrist...
K'Nara Thursday February 8th, 2007 12:46:29 AM
Hearing Valdor introduce her, K'Nara bestows upon Gunther a kiss for luck...then turns and, with a deep breath, glides gracefully forward into the hall:
Emerging into the hall is a tall human female, fair of skin and bright of eye. Her chestnut hair falls in fire-kissed, soft waves to her waist, contrasting in a dramatic fashion against the green silk gown that is embellished with silk thread of gold and blue hues. In her right ear flashes a tiny silver cuff in the shape of a dragon...on her left hand glitters a polished signet ring of talons clutching a fiery sword. The athletically-built beauty halts and then executes a deep and graceful curtsey.
"Ladies...gentlemen...noble beings..." she says, waving a hand in the direction of the female Plats, the male Plats, and then towards Sturtavent and the Emperor of Aisildur. The leader of the Talons knits her eyebrows for a slightly puzzled moment, but then she brightens once more and smiles in Parnoth's direction.
"Oh...and my lord Parnoth..." she amends.
"Welcome, one and all--and please accept my gratitude for your presence here at this most auspicious occasion. I am very proud to count the members of the Emerald Talons as my colleagues and friends--but, even more importantly, as members of my family. And here they are..." The graceful human blade singer steps to one side of the doorway and introduces, one by one, each of the Talons present:
OOC: I'm having K'Nara introduce Bertram as though he's still here; the DM may edit the list as she sees fit. ((~~Jan~~ Above looks good, Donna!))
Olana Thursday February 8th, 2007 1:43:35 AM
"She's led us through quite a few scrapes, hasn't she," Olana says to Milo as K'Nara is announced and steps forward.
Olana adds to the applause, then hearing their names called out - "Er... what are we supposed to do now?"
Nick Valentine Thursday February 8th, 2007 1:52:08 AM
Caught up in the occasion, Nick applauds loudly. So far, so good. This was turning out to be a grand affair.
Falin Thursday February 8th, 2007 1:56:21 AM
While Falin steps forwards with the rest of the group he pushes his sleeves up and throws up a quick wave and a bow.
Falin pauses his gaze on Parnoth for a second as he bows. Take a look at my bracelet free wrists you pompus windbag. No one owns me you hipomatanic landmass Falin thinks to himself.
Answering Olana, "I am not sure. I would be we will get herded to another section."
DM Jan Thursday February 8th, 2007 2:24:37 AM
The applause is deafening, and as the currently named Emerald Talons step forward to receive their accolades, it may give them pause for thought as they look upon this audience before them. Emperors, Mayors, Overlords, high-ranking council members and clerics, all with their spouses and assistants and hangers-on. And although all eyes are on the Talons, occasionally they shift here and there, observing their peers, measuring, calculating, acknowledging. Subtle alliances or rivalries are revealed, a myriad of pecking orders are established, rebuffed, and re-established. A quick nod between two gentlemen signifies a meeting to be held later. A whisper between two grand dames, a possible betrothal between their respective children.
It is perhaps now that it becomes clear that it wasn't all going to be swords and sorcery any more. For here, before them, was the big political machine of the Wold, as difficult to master as a 9th level spell, and potentially as deadly as an explosive arrow, and it, too, would have to be dealt with.
Lian's staredown with Mop proves to be a welcome distraction for the dragon's right-hand man. Still struggling with the velvet box, he matches the elf, stare for stare.
Stood next to the Aisildurian Emperor, Sister Toscani seems oblivious of Sturtavent's unease. She looks on, missing nothing. Through her, the all mighty, all powerful Ga'al, has a front row seat. Beneath her robe, her chest seems to pulse slightly.
As for Dahlia's misgivings about the left behind silver dragon. They could possibly be well founded.
Valdora is sticking close to Cori, although she can't take her eyes off Dae'lin's pseudodragon companion.
Lian Thursday February 8th, 2007 7:52:47 AM
Still holding the stare, hearing his name announced, the monk bows slightly in acknowledgement of Knara.
Then, uncharacteristically, flashes smile and wink at Mop, turning his attention back to the sorceress.
Whispering, "Miss Aeralia, that there is the maggot, Mop, Parnoth's lacky in training. He is actually a non-dragon, or so we believe. He's always in that ugly form. To his credit, he is quite witty and intelligent at times, but still, no friend of ours."
Onrad [DM Jerry] Thursday February 8th, 2007 4:33:36 PM
"Would our guests and now comrades in arms, The Emerald Talons, be seated where they would amongst us? A most amazing feast has been prepared!"
He pauses helping others find where they wish to sit. Magically, chairs seem to appear and disappear, creating room where needed and neatly arranging themselves until all are seated and comfortable.
The table is square. Every chair different, but equally crafted. Each matching the ornateness of a King's throne, yet none dominating the presence of the hero who sits there.
The lights dim and small fey carrying glowlights fly out of corners and crevices turning the assembly hall into an amazing dance of lights and color.
An elven orchestra begins to play from somewhere over to the side, just loud enough to muffle conversation so that there is privacy when needed.
The Master of Chefs [DM Jerry] Thursday February 8th, 2007 4:34:07 PM
Then 8 doors open and servers, dressed in gold emerge carrying trays stacked with wines, meats, vegetables, soups, salads, and other delicacies from around the Wold.
As soon as any request is asked of the serving staff, it seems to come out of the door.
A fatter than normal dwarf comes out of the kitchen. Looking mighty important, the master chef strides to Valdor's side.
"Milord, we have food and to spare. A grand host remains hungry and unfed at the Giggling Ghost, all watching now through the Viewing Devices. I ask your permission to do something unprecidented!"
He pauses making the moment simmer in the glow lights.
"I ask that those who honor you at the Giggling Ghost be served as well!"
Valdor Thursday February 8th, 2007 7:25:37 PM
Valdor smiles at the chef and smiles. He answers,"Of course we will. And I will pick up the tab personally for any food or beverage. Tell them to enjoy and have fun."
Milo Thursday February 8th, 2007 8:09:06 PM
Stepping through with Olana, Milo smiles and salutes the crowd, speaking quietly to her, "Yeah... scrapes, bumps, bruises, lacerations... through them all." The halfling giggles and proceeds toward the food accordingly.
Dae'lin Shadowstep and Bryndal Thursday February 8th, 2007 8:12:47 PM
Dae'lin seats himself near Valdora, shrugging Bryndal into wakefulness. Speaking telepathically to the small dragon, Why don't you entertain the young one. The elf's only indication that anything is amiss is a smirk that appears and then disappears just as quickly.
Grumpy at being awakened so rudely, but fascinated by the child, Bryndal jumps down from her perch across Dae'lin's narrow shoulders, and mock-stalks Valdora from across the table where they're seated... growling playfully.
Gunther and Thaeri Thursday February 8th, 2007 10:40:05 PM
As he is called, the cat trainer pauses for a second, catching his breath, then he moves forward with measured steps...making sure he does not look like he is rushing toward his seat. His light blue buckskins hug his well muscled body expertly...but not too tight as to be uncomfortable. It also complements his deeply tanned skin and vibrant blue eyes while managing to detract from his snow white locks which are held in place by a wreath of powder blue flowers. As he makes his way toward K'nara's side, an inky black figure slinks along the warriors side and could almost be mistaken for his shadow. Closer inspection reveals a lithe black panther padding silently along...a matching wreathe of light blue flowers resting on it's head. Though the cat wears a look of supreme boredom, the rapid flicking of her tail indicates that the creature would much rather be someplace else.
After what seems like the longest walk of his life, Gunther finally makes it over to K'nara's side and takes his seat with a heavy exhale. The panther quickly slinks under the table and takes a position up under Gunther's seat.
Ingrge Thursday February 8th, 2007 11:36:48 PM
As he is called forth by K'nara, the elder elf, lifts his scarred face, pushes back his white hair and steps forward moving with a steady confidence that warns of more than magical ability. It seems to be a walk more suited to a warrior than a mage and yet somehow it seems to fit the Wold's foremost and founding weaponmage. As he makes his way to his seat he carefully watches the reations of some of the major players as he and the others make their way into the dining room. He knew that this was an arena that he was less suited to than some of the others and yet he knew that he would need to somewhat master it if he were to continue to keep his family alive in the future. Giving a polite bow to Sturtevant again as he passes him, he gives an understanding nod to both Mordrid and Valdor as he passes by and finally finds his seat.
***
The pretty dark skinnied purple-eyed halfling finds her self seated between beside Nicholas to her left and the Aisildurian ambassador to her right, trying to give at least a bit of a buffer between Nick and the heartless Gaalians.
Falin Friday February 9th, 2007 2:01:53 AM
Taking his seat Falin looks over the spread layed out before them all. Never had he seen so much food. A smile creeps across his face, but only for a moment. He closes his eyes for a seocnd and bows his head as he says a quick prayer to Wardd. When he is finished he looks at the others and waits for someone to start eating.
Sturdevant Friday February 9th, 2007 8:18:16 AM
The High Lord Mayor is very bored with Parnoth's antics and can not wait for the ceremoney to start. Once it does he waits in anticipation to hear the deeds of the Emerald Talons as he seems to have more than a casual interest. Maybe he has designs of his own.....
The Lady Herterona barely contains her distaste for Parnoth and actually turn away when he blusters.
K'Nara Friday February 9th, 2007 8:19:08 AM
The tall blade singer smiles as her fellow Talons seat themselves, but she murmurs into her own linked earclip so that the Platinum Dragons may hear:
"Perhaps someone should go specifically to check up on young Cloud? I thought she was here already. I'd go look myself, but I'm a bit under the glaring eye of the crystal ball, if you know what I mean..?"
K'Nara continues to stand while awaiting the answer to her initial question.
Shirri the Hooded Friday February 9th, 2007 8:22:57 AM
Shirri--seated next to Mordrid--glances quizzically at the ranger as K'Nara voices her concern over the magical earclips all the Plats possess.
"My lord, who is 'Cloud'?" she asks softly. "If the honored ones doth be concerned, mayhap canst I seek this Cloud and bring her forthwith?"
Lian Friday February 9th, 2007 9:22:50 AM
"Aw, food."
Ve Mundr Friday February 9th, 2007 11:26:29 AM
Ve engages with some talk with those seated by him. Conversations about what he plans to do in the near future and such things. Ve offers that he will be moving his families estate to The Floating City. He still needs to discuss it with the OverLord, but expects to be granted permission.
Valdor Saturday February 10th, 2007 12:43:44 AM
Valdor replies to K'Nara under his breath and into his earring,"She will be fine for a bit longer, I am sure. It has only been a few hours, and will be just a few more before we are finished. Just enjoy your moment and focus now. These people will be either allies or foes...or both, in your future. You must show unity in mind and purpose. We will attend to other matters later. And, you must tell the other Talons not to intentionally antagonize Parnoth. We musn't have a fight, and any hostility will be seen as weakness by others in this room. Lesson number one, there's nothing easy about being a Dragon, and that is not going to be easy for you and your group, I understand, but this is a vital start for you all. Trust my judgment in this, please."
Once the noise has died down, Valdor holds his hands up to ask for quiet and says,"As most of us in this room can remember, if we dare to think back so far, we were once at a crossroads in our lives as they are now. They have a difficult choice to make and many more difficult choices will they face should they be accepted by and then accept the offer of Consortium membership."
He winks at K'Nara to show there is no meaning behind the 'being accepted by' part of his statement, then finishes with,"We will have a proper ceremony after we all feast. Guests of our castle and guests joined in the Giggling Ghost, enjoy our hospitality and enjoy the feast."
He claps his hands for the waiters and motions for them to begin serving the Talons first, then the other dignitaries, then his own group. He watches everyone's movements and eyes as they eat. He catches Parnoth's eye and raises an eyebrow. He glances at the Talons, then back to Parnoth and shakes his head slowly. Parnoth remembers Valdor killing his assassin, the warrior knows, and he also knows that the Gold Dragons saved his hide twice. But the green dragon was never told why they did it.
Milo Saturday February 10th, 2007 3:53:40 PM
Milo needs no further prompting. The slender halfling digs in, sampling everything that gets within arm's reach... and asking for things that aren't. Each and every dish that he manages to lay his hands on, he promptly offers up to Olana before serving himself. Self control that is seldom found in the male gender of the halfling species.
Lian Sunday February 11th, 2007 11:09:27 AM
Lian helps Aeralia gather her food, pours her wine and doesn't start gathering his until she starts eating. "If there is anything else you want Aeralia, let me know."
He then gathers salad, fruits and honey mead for himself.
K'Nara Sunday February 11th, 2007 11:29:39 PM
The tall, chestnut-maned blade singer nods at Valdor's words and then takes her place at the table with Gunther and Thaeri. Although dressed as grand as any noble may be, K'Nara doesn't take "dainty" portions of the food available--she boldly fills her place setting with hearty fare and the good, stout ale to go with it.
"Do you think Thaeri would appreciate a leg of mutton..?" she asks softly of Gunther, noting that a sizeable haunch of meat is available should the big cat under the man's chair wish it.
Falin Monday February 12th, 2007 12:08:41 AM
Falin digs in when the rest of the Talons start. He does not take large portions, but he does sample everything at least once.
Valdor Monday February 12th, 2007 1:30:45 AM
Valdor watches everyone enjoying themselves. He eats sparingly...for him, anyway. He drinks only water, but keeps his goblet full of ale, in case anyone makes another toast. He talks very little, and seems lost in thought much of the time.
Lian Monday February 12th, 2007 6:35:47 AM
The monk sits happily back and watches the most experienced adventurers play politics. Politics was always confusing to the elf and it scares him to think that the will be the thing they, the Emeralds, will have to deal with for the most part. He was more qualified for wet work and covert operations, but even Milo and the young Aeralia would likely be better at that. Lian will have to find his niche in the political arena.
Falin Monday February 12th, 2007 6:39:47 AM
"Maybe we should have brought some of our bracelets with us and handed them out as door prizes. I think that Parnoth would have enjoyed having one of ours." Falin says with a smile on his face between bites.

Gunther Monday February 12th, 2007 9:48:11 AM
Gunther grins at K'nara. "I tink that after tonight she von't have to eat for a few weeks. Vhy don't you go ahead and offer it to her." The trainer whispers down under the table. "Remember not to bite the hand that feeds you..."
Figuring that this might be their last chance for such amazing for in quite some time, Gunther follows K'nara's lead and piles the food on. Mostly large helpings of meat with a few vegetables to keep the illusion of healthy eating going.
Main Course! [DM Jerry] Monday February 12th, 2007 4:50:56 PM
Once the appetisers are picked over, the servers gently take those away that are not still being enjoyed.
The dwarf with much pride makes a dramatic entrance and with much flourish claps his hands three times!
::whack!:: ::whack!:: ::whack!::
Then yet again the servers come out bringing the main course both at the Gold Dragon Castle and the Giggling Ghost!
Dragon Steaks!
Amid shouts of joy, greats steaks culled from the dragons defeated that day are served!
---------
There are two other reactions to this as well.
Sturtavent feints! Just keels over in his chair banging his head on the floor very hard.
And Parnoth instinctively begins to roar!!
"WHAT IS THIS INSULT!!!!!"
He begins to change shape! Starting to form into a huge green dragon!
Sturdavant Monday February 12th, 2007 5:36:33 PM
Sturdavant turns his nose up at the main course and whispers none too quite to Herterona "I thought there would be more o a sense of humility. I hope I am not mistaken in the long run."
Sturdavant sees Parnoth change and he races toward him with all haste, followed non too quickly by Herterona and her too tight moonlight dress. "HALT! You old FOOL!" Sturdavant yells at Parnoth. "It is as though you still have your egg tooth. This is not a time to bring up old grievences. This is a safe haven. Give up your true form or this will not longer be a place of sanctuary for you. There are many more of your foes in atendance than your friends."
Sturdavant waits just a moment before he calmly adds "What will it be Parnoth?"
Olana Monday February 12th, 2007 8:22:41 PM
Olana sits quietly at the table, listening to whatever talk was going around, and she eats pieces of food passed to her by Milo.
When the dragon steak arrives, she blinks, then sits there staring at it, like it might come alive and bite her head off.
She doesn't eat meat, so she's going to have to pass on this one, and she looks across at the Platinum Dragons and wonders. Was this a calculated insult on their part? Parnoth being here, an' all? For some reason it didn't seem to make a lot of sense - oh, and yes, Parnoth didn't look too pleased at all. Now what? Was this another test? "I really didn't want to have to fight another dragon today," she says quietly to Milo, weariness in her voice.
Father Nicholas Monday February 12th, 2007 8:27:02 PM
Nick takes in the arrival of the steak, Sturtavent passing out, and Parnoth getting his dragon on, and he feels the beginnings of a major headache coming on.
He screws his eyes shut and rubs the bridge of his nose. That dwarf was going have to go.
Alemi save us...
Milo Monday February 12th, 2007 9:48:42 PM
Milo smiles pleasantly, though his voice is all business, "Me neither... but I will if he pushes it." The halfling nods at the introduction of the dragon steak, interest creasing his brow. He doesn't motion one way or the other however, looking around for social queues to see if the dish is appropriate, or someone's idea of a joke.
Gunther and Thaeri Monday February 12th, 2007 10:19:24 PM
The warrior grins at the arrival of the huge steaks...until the ruckus breaks out. He looks over at K'nara and gently pushes his plate out of the way. He whispers to her "I know I vould be very offended if dey served orc. For vonce I can say I can feel for dat dragon..."
Thaeri gently bats the meat from K'nara's hand as it is offered. Her low growl floats up to Gunther. "You didn't say anything about scratching..." the tone is playful, though K'nara does get a few small scratches for her kindness. At the arrival of all the meat, the big cat bats her tail back and forth impatiently. She begins to knead her claws into Gunther's leg. "What's the hold up?! It smells like they butchered a herd of cattle up there!"
Falin Monday February 12th, 2007 11:48:01 PM
Falin looks at the steak dropped in front of him and wonders for a moment what dragon tastes like. He then notices the happenings going on and pauses to watch events unfold.
Valdor Tuesday February 13th, 2007 12:00:58 AM
Valdor is completely confused at the reaction. He, of course, had no idea what was being served. To him, any steak is as good as any other. When he realizes what has happened, he moves quickly to where Sturtevant and Parnoth are standing and says calmly, "Gentlemen, my cooks had no idea who would be attending and we didn't know what they were serving. We can summon up something else very quickly as it obviously isn't something you want to eat. Not that Parnoth hasn't feasted on an adversarial dragn before," he adds wryly. The fingers of his right hand are flexing ever so slightly and Parnoth can probably feel the presence of his sword, even if it's not visible. He says, "No offense was intended by our cooks, you can be assured, and you both know that I do not lie, so let's calm down and have a drink, okay?"
He's obviously pained at this and embarrassed and angry. He will, however, defend his friends and home against the green, if necessary.
K'Nara Tuesday February 13th, 2007 1:46:14 AM
K'Nara is of two minds: first is to dive headfirst into the biggest, juiciest steak on the platters and chew each mouthful twenty times--all while sitting in Parnoth's face. It would serve the old tyrant right.
Then she shakes her head and refuses the steak.
"For all that I disagreed with the morality and conduct of the reds and Lathiese...they were, above all else, intelligent beings. I don't partake in feasting on the remains of intelligent beings...never knowingly, at any rate." she tells her server. "Thank the chefs for their hard work, but I'll not have the dragon steak, thank you."
K'Nara does, however, spare Thaeri a look that is accompanied by a rather thoughtful moue, and notes to herself to offer the big cat meat with a longer "handle" on it...in order to avoid the scratches next time.
Shirri the Hooded Tuesday February 13th, 2007 1:50:10 AM
Shirri's amethyst eyes round in surprise and a bit of horror--poor Sturtavent. Even though he was a lawful good gold dragon, it must still be rather horrifying to see one's fellow drakes served up on platters! She gets to her feet and goes over to the High Lord Mayor.
"Art thou all right, m'lord..?" Shirri inquires, concern in her voice and demeanor.
Ve Mundr Tuesday February 13th, 2007 8:53:01 AM
Ve is hardly a coiniseur and doesn't recognize the steaks being anything more than what they appear to be, steaks. He goes solely by the reactions of Sturdavant and Parnoth. Not good
Valdor is moving to the High Lord Mayor and Parnoth already as well as the woman by Mordrid. Her name he had heard before, but knew little about her. Ve stays calm and motions for Mordrid and a few others that everything is fine.
Chef [DM Jerry] Tuesday February 13th, 2007 12:24:02 PM
The Dwarven chef starts and spits...
"He's a drrraaaagonnn??? I thought those were words to describe him.
He turns totally purple in the face.
"I..."
"Sorry. I'm fired."
And with that our chef rips off his apron, throws it on the floor, steps on it, runs into the kitchen and out the kitchen entrance into the early night.
Lian Tuesday February 13th, 2007 1:09:41 PM
The monk looks at the steak, and without missing a beat, askes, "Do you have GREEN dragon steak? I know this is red or black, correct?" He barely glances at Parnoth, for he knows that the beast won't survive an assault of this magnitude.
Parnoth [DM Jerry] Tuesday February 13th, 2007 2:06:52 PM
Parnoth, still in a rage, reverts to his humanoid form.
"Art thou not....," he begins to say to Sturtavent. But he catches himself instantly and spits and starts.
"I have never been so insulted. Dragonstone, this truce is at an end! Talons, beware of mine!"
Then he teleports and is gone.
Lian Tuesday February 13th, 2007 4:16:58 PM
"Touchy, isn't he. Pass the steak sauce please." The monk wasn't aware there was a truce. Besides, any truce related to the green was likely going to desolve anyway, especially given the fact the Talons were ascending so to speak. "Insulted, I think we'd done that more than once already."
"Seems he left his Mop to clean up with." Lian is aware that he has over stepped the bounds of civility and good taste, but he isn't taking the threat lightly. In fact, he's concerned but is putting on a show. Steadfast and stouthearted the Emerald Dragons were meant to be and they shall. Courage or ignorance... choose one.
Mop (Jan) Tuesday February 13th, 2007 5:18:57 PM
And so...
Parnoth teleports off, leaving Mop sat there, surrounded by what were rapidly becoming hostile adversaries.
Intentions had started off so well. And now here he was, with his velvet box. It contained a gift. For the Talons. A nice gift. A gift of value - magical, but not tampered with.
How could this have gone so horribly wrong?
Oh Warrd, he was going to be eaten, too, in all probability.
He is frightened, and very close to tears.
Ingrge Tuesday February 13th, 2007 5:36:11 PM
Also not a meat eater, Ingrge looks slightly amused at the fact they are being served dragon and he is caught a bit off guard by Parnoth's reaction. At the moment Parnoth makes his announcement about an end to the truce, and his disappearance Ingrge looks back up and asks.
"There was a Truce?" Turning to catch Mop's eye, the elder elf continues as he faces the one who took such pleasure in putting the slave bracelet on his wrist so long ago. Scornful words pour out before he can think to stop them. "Hey Broom?" What's this about a truce? Have you two been playing both sides of the fence again...?"
******
At the announcement of the main course Dahlia shakes her head, knowing what is to come and she can't really blame the ole greenie, but he ought to know none of them would have planned this, although....
Olana Tuesday February 13th, 2007 6:01:34 PM
As Parnoth disappears, Olana suddenly starts to feel cold. Taking in Mop's terror, the taunts and other flippant comments, she starts to feel sick to her stomach, too.
Is this what being a Dragon is all about? she thinks. What if that green monster is spraying dragon fire on the elven camp, right now, in a fit of pique? But it doesn't matter does it, because if he does we can go and kill him, just like we did with the others. Hey and after that we can kill all his monsters, too. They might take out half the populace, but there's always some collateral damage, right? Then there's that orc down south, the one they saved, who might get cocky and make a takeover bid if the dragon's gone. Kill, kill, kill 'em all. Because we're Dragons, and we don't take bull from nobody, right? RIGHT?
The elf slaps her hand firmly over her own mouth, suddenly horrified that she might actually say this out loud. She grabs Milo's hand and holds it tightly. Holy oak trees of Culverwood..
Corialote and Amarth Tuesday February 13th, 2007 6:33:14 PM
Cori has been taking all of this in stride till the serving of the steaks. Oh, any other day she would have been right on part with the joke but whoever did this was in bad taste this day. She does not see a need to move though as she watches first Parnoth disappear and Mop about to break into tears. She tries to catch Mop's attention and motion him to her side. "We may not see eye to eye on much of anything but you are under my protection for now." Though she figures the poor man is beyond much else she still lays her hand upon his shoulder. "Stand strong and we will figure this out." Her piercing eyes of green and silver watch the crowd as they go about their business, but they warn to keep their distance if they seek no good. She is not as defenseless as some without weapons... her weapon is her brain.
Nick Valentine Tuesday February 13th, 2007 6:55:31 PM
Coming to his senses, and despite his earlier thoughts, Nick gets to his feet. He notes that Cori is coming to the aide of the frightened Mop, and so he approaches Valdor.
"I'll go and talk to the cook. Calm him down?" he asks his leader. "I'm sure we can sort all this out. Parnoth, too."
Mordrid Tuesday February 13th, 2007 7:56:35 PM
Mordrid stands quickly when he takes in what is happening.
His immediate thought is to beat the dwarf over the head with a large flank of dragon steak, but then seeing Parnoth revert to dragon form the ranger goes for his sword.
"Madness." Mordrid is red in the face. Such a mistake by a staff member reeks of treachory. And Onrad... he was to be in charge of these proceedings?"
Once Parnoth teleports out he speaks loudly for all the guests to hear, "Talons and other noble guests, this kind of political blunder is a perfect example of what being a dragon (consortium) is NOT all about. This should have never happened."
All the while he is on his feet and marching towards Cori and Mop, "Regardless, fate has brough this situation upon us."
Turning towards Sturtevant, "Am I to assume my lord that Parnoth dropping the truce puts New Elenna in a state of war? I ask permission to place Mop under custody."
Looking at Cori, "with your permission my lady, I would like to place a hand on Mop... in case Parnoth yanks him out with a teleport."
The ranger kneels over to look Mop in the eyes, "I assume you have a way to communicate with your master. I suggest you do so immediately, so we can make peace, before he takes his wrath out on the people of The Emerald Kingdom. If one elf dies... I mean just one... well, it goes without saying that you would be in a bad predicament."
Valdor Tuesday February 13th, 2007 8:01:25 PM
Valdor grimaces at Parnoth's anger, but doesn't really seemed concerned. He mutters,"I have no idea what truce we had, but I guess it doesn't matter. Yes, Nick, see what you can do with him. It wasn't his fault nor did he do it on purpose."
After hearing the words thrown at Mop, Valdor says loudly,"Okay, enough people. Mop only works for him, he doesn't call the shots. We aren't bullies who ridicule. Besides, even if Parnoth just went a bit nuts, we should have expected him to do so at some point tonight. If it hadn't been now, it would have been later.
He'll calm down and won't do anything rash, because he's too smart for that. He knows there are consequences for any direct actions against anyone here or their charges. He will always survive first, fight last...and only if he knows he can win. So forget about him and let's enjoy. He would like nothing more than to ruin this evening, would he not?"
He pats Sturtevant on the shoulder in apology and goes to sit down. After a couple of seconds he asks a waiter for ale.
Mordrid Tuesday February 13th, 2007 8:21:28 PM
In a controlled voice, "So I am to not to place Mop under custody? He is to be allowed to leave?" The ranger has a hard time wrapping his head around the notion. It would make sense after all to retain Mop, as he understood it... Parnoth had declared war. Well with Cori and Valdor in a unified front, the ranger throws up his arms and returns to his seat. Time would tell the wisdom of this action.
Mordrid seated, "well by all means, lets drink and celebrate." He raises his drink and guzzles it down. The whole damned house of cards had come crashing down, and we were to continue with this induction with a band of adventurers that were being hijacked by the consortium against their will; when all they really wanted was to rightfully return to their homes and bathe in Parnoth's blood. Mordrid's toast drips of sarcasm, as his beard drips with ale.
Sturtavant Tuesday February 13th, 2007 9:01:39 PM
The High Lord Mayor takes a moment to straighten out his shirt and the cracks his neck to relieve some tension. "That was almost...sticky." Sturtavant goes back to his seat an pushes his plate avay from him.
The lady Herterona does not recover as quickly as she looked about ready to pounce just before Parnoth teleported, which was no easy feet in her gown. Herterona blows stray strands of hair from in front of her face as she goes and recovers her shoes. Apprantly, Herterona kick off her shoes in an effort to keep up with the High Lord Mayor.
Ve Mundr d20+18=27 Tuesday February 13th, 2007 9:23:28 PM
Ve continues to keep an eye on the rest, he was hardly a rash man and read the events quite differently, but here was hardly the place to speak of them. A council would need to be convened shortly, but he might not even be involved. From Ve's stand point, he was stepping down and moving his family estate to the Floating city. The Talons were just handed thier first real test of being Dragons.
Valdor was right about Parnoth, but Ve was not so convinced about how right he was about the Talons. To him this smelled of one great political trap into which the Talons would stride ever eagerly into from the emotions that seem to govern them. Parnoth had thrown down a phantom gaunlet, truce indeed and now the Talons would take anything that happens to an elf or any other in the Emerald kingdom as revenge by Parnoth. Off they would run and give the dragon the real war on a platter.
Ve sat back, his brow furrowing deeper in thought as he delved deeper into the trap. Yes Parnoth was clever enough and powerful enough to stage this, but was he bold enough. Ve decides finally to break and change tact. Hoisting a glass in Mordrid's direction, "Your words as always good Mordrid, send my spirits ever higher." He says with a wry grin. Ve then looks to Mop,
"Mop, It would seem the illustrious ruler of the Emerald kingdom has bestowed the great honor upon you to present his gift and thanks to the new members of the Dragon Consortium on this grand and auspicious occassion." Ve stands and covers the distance to him, "Please." he states with a partial bow.

Milo Tuesday February 13th, 2007 9:35:38 PM
Milo is startled at first, and then seeing things head southward, the halfling decides that action is what is needed. Patting Olana's hand a moment, he stands, and slips free of his beloved, moving quickly to Mop's side. Speaking openly, "My good man, it appears as though your benefactor has chosen to leave. If it would make you more comfortable, I would encourage you to do the same." Looking around, "I think that we can all agree that allowing Mop to return home safely, when he is ready, is the best, first step toward mending this diplomatic misunderstanding." Milo is unclear regarding any truce they might have had with the big green meanie, but he does know what it is like to feel picked on, and for this brief moment, he actually feels sympathy for Mop.
Gunther and Thaeri Tuesday February 13th, 2007 11:12:06 PM
The warrior sighs. Touchy dragon that Parnoth was. So, it was to be war. Well, eventually it would come down to that, wouldn't it? He was hoping not to move so quickly to rebuild the orc nation, but it looks like he'll have to get a move on. He listens to all the wisdom being passed around by the Platinum Dragons. He hopes they are right...but then again, to them Parnoth was just a distance annoyance. One of those hard to reach fleas. But not so with the Talons. It's a little difficult to be calm and reasonable when you have a hostile dragon enslaving your friends and family.
From her position under the table, the panther looks up languidly at K'nara as if to say "Who me??". Crunching happily on the mutton, the large cat easily rips the meat off and gulps it down. After thoroughly cleaning her face, she rubs affectionately against the bladesinger's calves.
Valdor Tuesday February 13th, 2007 11:23:28 PM
(ooc:Scott, your post wasn't there when I started my post. I got a phone call and was delayed from finishing before you had finished...sorry)
Valdor says to Mordrid,"I don't necessarily disagree with you, but what real value does he have to Parnoth? That egomaniac wouldn't care if we held him hostage or even killed him, except that it might give him an excuse to do likewise. He'll come to his senses. Besides, what army could he muster to go to war with Plateau City and its supporters? Nah, he's just mad and likes to make a show to unravel good things...he'll get over it when it suits his needs."
Aeralia Wednesday February 14th, 2007 12:10:39 AM
[OOC: Ack! Had some problems with campus network, and took alot longer then the IT guys said it would to fix!!]
Aeralia nods to Lian lightly as he points out Mop, after their introductions. "Certainly, Master Lian. I had the pleasure of his company at the Tower, if you remember. When you all returned."
~~~~
The young sorceress eats delicately at her food. Slowly, and small bits, very lady like. She has the upmost manners, and listens closely to what conversations she can make out. She ignores the dragon steaks, when they are served. As things begin to heat up, the young woman keeps quiet, leaving the politics to more seasoned companions. She sips lightly at her drink, keeping her words and thoughts to herself.
Falin Wednesday February 14th, 2007 12:13:21 AM
Watching the green become displeased and talk of a broken truce makes Falin smile. My revenge on that creature will come sooner than I may have originally thought. I need to start working on some new arrows.
"Doing something to his slaves might not be seen by him as doing something rash. To him they are no more than items to be discarded when he has grown tired of them. We must go to the tower and make plans for the safety of those in our care." Falin says to the other Talons. "Or at the very least to warn them of what is happening."
Assorted NPCs (Jan) Wednesday February 14th, 2007 1:32:27 AM Valdora
Valdora stays silent and watches her father wrestle with the tensions in the room. Stood close to Cori, she is able to get a good look at this Mop fellow, and she looks on, curious. This had been a very interesting meal, so far, although she has to admit, she had been ready to dive under the table when Parnoth had started to change. She is getting used to that gut-wrenching dragon fear, now. Well, perhaps not used to it, but now she knows it for what it is. "I didn't eat any of it," she tells Mop, hoping that'll help things along. Especially seeing as he looked about to collapse when Uncle Mordrid approached him.
Oh, gross. Did Uncle Mordrid know he had beer dripping from his beard?
The Floating City Party
Alicia had remained seated and watched the goings-on with resignation. It seemed that tensions always arose at political gatherings, and this one was proving to be no exception. They had similar upsets, if on a smaller scale perhaps, back at home for one reason or another. Hopefully it wouldn't spoil the occasion altogether. Not that she could see a whole lot, from behind Torel's dark, sweeping cloak.
Torel, the Gargulian priest, had quietly got to his feet as things had started to heat up. He was under no doubt whatsoever that these ladies and gentlemen could handle themselves. But he was here to protect the Overlord, and so he had strategically placed himself between any trouble and his charge. And there he stood, like a brooding Lord of Doom, Gargul's gloomy influence emanating from him like a beacon. His ugly face cracked a grin as things began to settle down, and eventually, he returned to his seat, those around him giving him plenty of room.
K'Nara Wednesday February 14th, 2007 1:54:02 AM
K'Nara's face looks rather thoughtful...though whether that's because of Thaeri's reactions to her or because of Parnoth's outburst, it's hard to say. She merely shrugs.
"I have no love of Mop." she readily admits. "But Valdor is correct in pointing out that Mop is merely a lackey, and that it's highly doubtful that Parnoth would put himself out for such. My only objection to Mop has ever and always been that he enjoys his job a bit too much."
Shirri the Hooded Wednesday February 14th, 2007 1:59:24 AM
After making sure that Sturtavent is all right, the veiled cleric glided gracefully across the floor and, nearing Mordrid, produced a folded linen squarely that she used to dab up the beer from his beard. As quickly as the cloth was produced, it disappeared again, though.
"Ne'er let such as Parnoth disturb thy meal, dearest," Shirri advised Mordrid with a sparkle in her jewel-toned eyes, "Else thou shalt be put off thy feed for nigh upon a century." She took her seat beside him and delicately returned to the platter of mostly fruits and vegetables that had been set before her.
Onrad [DM Jerry] Wednesday February 14th, 2007 12:03:58 PM
Onrad comes running out of the kitchen.
"Nick is handling the cook. Everyone sit for a second. I have something to say."
He waits for everyone to settle down.
"It seems that our master chef, nor any of the rest of us had even considered what effect serving the dragon meat would have upon the festivities this evening.
"I claim all responsibility since I sorta put myself in charge of things here. I can honestly say that meat from intelligent being will never be served in my presence again.
"I request, friends, that we remove the unfortunate food from the room and from the Giggling Ghost as well.
He then turns to Valdor.
"Dragonstone, after these procedings, I will present my blades to you and accept any consequences from my lack of thinking."
Onrad bows, obviously upset, and excuses himself back into the kitchen.
Lian Wednesday February 14th, 2007 1:55:02 PM
Misgivings aside, the monk suggests, "Perhaps Mop can stick around awhile. Maybe Mop can explain about this 'truce' we had? Mop, please enlighten us."
Valdor Wednesday February 14th, 2007 2:42:06 PM
Valdor waves his hand to Onrad and says, "Don't worry Onrad, mistakes happen. Noone knew, or we would have done something different. I feel bad for the chef, though, because he worked extremely hard on those steaks. Have a drink and think on it no more. We have much more to think about tonight that rubbing old greenie the wrong way."
He winks at Sturtavent, knowing the High Lord Mayor can't be distressed by Parnoth's reaction. If anything, it put him farther away from trying to manipulate the Talons in the future.
He leans over and pats his daughter's head and smiles at her. He says, "Do not worry, I'll not put you in harm's way. There was never any real danger. Some of the more powerful beings like to show off occasionally and cause strife wherever they go. He's probably laughing back home right now, because he knows we are all talking about him and being concerned about what he's doing and such. He's just a bully who doesn't like others to have fun."
Corialote and Amarth Wednesday February 14th, 2007 10:22:35 PM
Cori keeps her hand upon Mop's shoulder and glares to Mordrid. It is only the fact that Valdor disagrees with the idea of holding him that keeps her from saying anything to him. "Don't worry Mop...you are free to go as soon as you would like. But do not feel that you need to rush off...you can eat and enjoy yourself while you can." She nods to the box he holds and then indicates the newest dragons. "At least delivery the gift and show them that you can be civil...be the bigger person if you think that you can." She has faith that the little guy can do it if he applies himself.
She lays her other hand upon Valdora's shoulder and gives her a smile. "You will be safe with me...I will not let anything happen to you if I can prevent it." She likes the free spirited woman and does not want her to lose that.
She will settle back into her seat once Mop is set to go about his own business. She will still keep an eye upon him, to see that he has no problem. She is greetly relieved to find that other came to the little guys rescue as well.
Gunther Wednesday February 14th, 2007 10:30:05 PM
Noting the scratches on K'nara's hand, Gunther shoots her an apologetic glance. Snaping his fingers, he motions for the cat to resume her position under his legs. "That wasn't very nice. No steak for you." Seeing that things seem to be mostly under control once more, Gunther piles his plate with large portions of the newly served meats and digs in again with gusto.
Nick Valentine d20+14=32 d20+20=29 Thursday February 15th, 2007 1:49:45 AM
Having found the cook, Nick uses his skills of diplomacy and knowledge as a herbalist to calm him down, change the subject and get him back on track, complimenting him and his staff on the subtle balance and excellent use of flavours he detected during the meal.
Olana Thursday February 15th, 2007 2:23:14 AM
Olana is grateful that Milo gets up to join in the fray, leaving her to get her act together. A few deep breaths and shake of the head and, well - sometimes you just had to roll with it, she supposed.
Mop (Jan) Thursday February 15th, 2007 2:35:39 AM
This event is turning out to be a bit of an emotional rollercoaster ride for poor Mop.
One minute he's about to be set upon and terrorized by that awful Mordrid, and then things calm down and - Burp Oh, now he had indigestion. And was it any wonder, with all this going on?
Mustering any shred of dignity he has left, and trying desperately to ignore the urge to give a peevish glance toward Lian, Mordrid and Ingrge, he collects the velvet box and walks over to K'Nara. "Please accept this gift from His Illustrious Excellency, the Mighty Parnoth," he says, still sounding a bit nervous. "In recognition of your new status - " and what else was he supposed to say? Oh yes " - and he looks forward to an new era of working together, and... er, here."
He hands K'Nara the box. It is about a foot square, and feels reasonably heavy.
Falin Thursday February 15th, 2007 2:41:34 AM
If Mop did not have his own spot Falin will stand after the presentation of the award and offer his seat to Mop for the duration of the evenings festivities. Even going as far as striking up a conversation with Mop.
"What better way to foster this new era of working together and to honor your master than to sit at our table with us." he says to Mop.
OOC: I am basing him not having a seat on the way he is treated by Parnoth, as a lowly servant.
Lian Thursday February 15th, 2007 11:54:24 AM
"So, what is it Knara?" Referring to the box.
K'Nara Thursday February 15th, 2007 1:43:29 PM
K'Nara eyes the box, recognizing it for it is: her very first test of political diplomacy.
Choices:
A. Accept the box with a smile and a nod; unveil the gift so that the crowd may "ooh" and "ahh".
B. Accept the box with a smile and some comment about Parnoth's tyrannical rule; open the box with thinly-veiled contempt.
C. Accept the box with a shrug; toss the box to Gunther and/or another of the Talons for them to open if they wish.
D. Ignore Mop completely.
E. Punch Mop dead in the face; take box and throw it to the ground, stomping on it and cursing Parnoth's very existence.
K'Nara had to admit that--while she hated tests--option "E" was rather tempting...especially the part about punching Mop.
However...her own personal satisfaction was no longer the issue.
"Please accept the gratitude of the Emerald Talons." the fiery-maned blade singer stood up and received the box from Mop--over whom she now towered. "I...like so many of our fellow inhabitants of the Emerald Kingdom...look forward to a reign of peace and justice." She lifted the cover off the box.
"If I may inquire as to what this magnanimous gift is..?" K'Nara asked, giving the item within a cursory look and then smiling (okay...showing her teeth) at Mop.
Glich [DM Jerry] Thursday February 15th, 2007 2:15:47 PM
K'nara opens the box to find a crystal ball.
The ball quickly clears to reveal a image of a small Fey creature.
"Hiya! I'm Glich. I am a protection from scrying device. You can instruct me to block all scrying and magical communications into and out of any structure. I can block all, or you can give me a list of those you will allow to penetrate the structure. I can also be set to notify you with an alarm if certain criteria are met.
I have been purged of Parnoth's control and you can be assured of my reliability."
Dessert! [DM Jerry] Thursday February 15th, 2007 2:23:02 PM
Soon the main course is done and coffies, non-alcohol drinks, and little confections of elven make that clear the head after imbibing of mind affecting spells and drinks are served.
Plates are magically flown into the kitchen and the table is reset, covered in gold finery with plenty of parchment, pens, and ink, with everything anyone could want for a meeting.
The Guests of State say their farewells and withdraw to the bar.
Finally, the adventurers are left alone and can talk freely.
Onrad enters and whispers to Mordrid, "Turn off the Viewing Devices if you want privacy. You may want the other adventuring groups to see this. You may not."
Valdor Thursday February 15th, 2007 2:59:01 PM
Valdor stands, out of respect, as the dignitaries leave the room. He says, "We will not be too long. I have a few things to explain and then there will be questions possibly. Then, we can forget all of the politics and let loose at the Giggling Ghost."
He lets everyone finish their food and dessert, and orders fresh drinks for everyone before he continues. He asks Mordrid, "Don't you think it would be wise for the adventurers at the Ghost be allowed to see these proceedings? It is a bit unprecedented and we normally keep things very private, but I think it's time they all understand what we do and why. But, I leave it to your wisdom to decide."
He has been watching the happenings in the Ghost through the crystal, as they have been watching them, although with Parnoth's antics, he was distracted from it. He knows many of those watching and considers many of them friends. He sees and hears Appolo's comments about the "almost fight", the druid's arguments, Ashira's diplomacy and smiles. The Wold is in good hands for the future, he mutters to himself and he sits down.
Ve Mundr Thursday February 15th, 2007 9:27:33 PM
Ve returns to his seat, he was still highly unconvinced thta Parnoth was as weak and helpless to truly strike at any of them as Valdor made it seem. Likely that was bravado and very much for the ears of those non Talon and Dragon's present. In this company, certainly such things were allowed for and well expected.
The gift is revealed and Ve nods several times. A handsome gift indeed. Also likely not the only such item in the dragons possession. Yes parnoth was a skilled diplomat, a ruler and a powerful spellcaster all in addition to being a powerful dragon. Laithese was easy, he had no protections or true precautions. Parnoth understood well the might of magic and kept it wrapped about him as surely as he did his scales.
Ve speaks long to Alicia on his thoughts of retiring his family estates to the Floating City. He is certain to say he has no political designs and merely was intruiged by the city when the group arrived. On the question of the Giggling Ghost, Ve noticed Mordrid was the specific target of the question and fot some reason he was put off by the exclussivity. Oh grow up, the men are more brothers than many that share blood. he was simply asking Mordrid not excluding you. the dark voice then tried its turn but was met with a wall more impeneratrble than any built by the dwarves. Ve had already dismissed it, before it had even thought to come forth.
Gunther Thursday February 15th, 2007 10:39:09 PM
Snagging a few pieces of meat before they are removed, Gunther passes them down to Thaeri. "Much better, thank you." As the dignitaries leave, Gunther shifts to a more comfortable position in his seat as he grabs a large piece of cake. He looks over at Valdor, ready to listen to whatever he is supposed to listen to.
Sturdavant Thursday February 15th, 2007 10:49:07 PM
After the main course is taken away, the High Lord Mayor take Herterona arm and leads her away from the Hero's. It now seems to be their time.
Sturdavant and Herterona enjoy a mug of coffee and each others company, on the other side of the room.
The two seem every watchful off the interplay and each persons reactions.
Corialote and Amarth Friday February 16th, 2007 12:02:07 AM
Cori leans back in her chair with a glass of wine in her off hand. She sips from it and watches the interplay between the boys. She also watches K'Nara with the present from Mop. Letting things pass she decides to engage the young Valdora in conversation and let the boys play. "You seemed interested in my business idea earlier...so I was wondering if you would like to go and check out some horses with me in a couple of days?" Her own eyes are twinkling with excitement for the new business that she plans to go into...though she does have her garden that was a hobby really. "I would dare say that you would be interested in a horse of your own and we will be looking at good stock." She does allow her other senses to stay atuned to the others in the room, but leaves most of that to Amarth.
Amarth from his perch in the rafters seems to be enjoying himself as he feasts on a few of the items that he has gotten from the tables. Still he keeps an eye upon the hall for his Mistress. He had to keep her safe for himself and for herself.
The Floating City Party (Jan) Friday February 16th, 2007 12:32:34 AM
Torel stands back and watches the Overlord talk to one of the Platinum Dragons. He sees Alicia struggling to keep a rein on her enthusiasm, but it's still there in her eyes, sparkling like the chandeliers in this room.
A Platinum Dragon retire to the Floating City? A city that was only just recovering after the devastation laid upon it by Ebyron and his mad plants? A city desperate to repopulate and bring in good people, not to mention money? A city population now cowering behind their ales in the taverns, the subject of their security and livelyhoods called into question once again, after news of that failed dragon threat? Not to mention that the jungle was still as lively as ever.
Gargul's thumbs, this fellow would get his own Mask Day welcome parade.
"A productive discussion, Ma'am?" he asks later, leading her away toward the bar as the Platinums/Talons get down to business.
Valdora (Jan) Friday February 16th, 2007 12:48:41 AM
Basking in her father's assurances, Valdora turns her attention to Cori's suggestion, listening intently while chewing on a piece of hair which has come slightly adrift from her braid.
"I'd love to!" she exclaims, adding quickly, "if Dad says it's okay."
She figures she has to leave also, when the time comes, and rises from her seat. Looking toward the open door and the bar beyond, she wonders if her silent boots will work well enough to creep up on that weird guy with the black cloak that has all that smoke coming from under it.
Nick Valentine Friday February 16th, 2007 12:53:36 AM
Blowing out a sigh of relief, Nick heads out of the kitchen and rejoins everyone in the dining room - a dining room that appears to have been changed into a meeting room in his absence.
"Well, I think tomorrow morning's pancakes are back on the menu," he says to Valdor with a grin before taking a seat.
Olana Friday February 16th, 2007 1:34:21 AM
Olana takes one look at the amount of cake Gunther just grabbed, and her face breaks out into a smile. Okay, she thinks, feeling a lot better, lets get this done.
Falin Friday February 16th, 2007 3:28:54 AM
"I am glad most of that is over with. Not that comfortable with the dignitaries around, but I will guess it will change as we get used to it at events such as this." Falin says
"Now, pray-tell, what do we need to discuss?"
The Book of the Dragon [DM Jerry] Friday February 16th, 2007 10:43:02 AM
Popping into existence is a book shaped like a dragon's head. It lands on the table with a plop. Then it opens and a diamond encrusted pen with red ink floats over a page.
Already written on this page are the words:
Green Dragons Black Dragons [this one is crossed out] Red Dragons Gold Dragons Storm Dragons Platinum Dragons
The pen hovers waiting to write the next name.
Onrad walks around and closes and locks all the doors to the room from the inside. All the shades are then pulled by him personally.
The lighting around the edges of the room fade into darkness. The lighting around the table seems to brighten.
All sound except for voices is silenced. There is a palpable feeling of importance in the air.
Mordrid Friday February 16th, 2007 11:20:12 AM
Mordrid raises the diamond gifted from Onrad; indicating that the broadcast is still live.
Lian Friday February 16th, 2007 11:56:36 AM
"That was interesting." He says, looking at the orb.
Ingrge / Dahlia Friday February 16th, 2007 9:26:42 PM
Ingrge raises a suspicious eyebrow as the gift is revealed and plans on giving it a very thourough going over when he has the chance and raises another eyebrow at the appearance of the dragon head shaped book and looks down upon the writing upon the page..
********
Dahlia watches as the various dignitaries exit and smiles as she watches Cori interact with Valdora and her eyes follow the younster as she leaves to and can almost sense her wanting to tey and sneak up on the smokey one. Reminding herself that she needs to catch up with her at some point and teach her how to really move silently as opposed to depending upon magic, Dahlia sneaks up behind Cori and gives her a playful jab.
"So, How's motherhood looking?"
Gunther Friday February 16th, 2007 10:30:26 PM
Gunther nudges K'nara. "Looks like you're up."
SteveH Saturday February 17th, 2007 10:49:56 AM
(OOC:My post for Valdor will be fairly lengthy and will take me some time to do it properly. Please bear with me before K'Nara signs the book)
Corialote and Amarth Saturday February 17th, 2007 9:06:51 PM
Cori glances to Dahlia as she makes an appearance and give her a knowing smile. "She reminds me an awful lot of me when I was younger." Her own eyes twinkle as she remembers different parts of her childhood. "I am hoping that I can be more of a sister to her than a mother...I would never try to be that with her but a friend." She smiles as she glances to Dahlia and sighs. "So now what my friend...what do we do?" She has business ideas and she thinks that Valdor is interested...Valdora is most definitely interested and she likes the young woman.
Amarth continues to eat as he keeps an eye upon the room for his Mistress. He wonders himself what this retirement will be like. Maybe it will be a chance to settle down and raise some young himself.
Valdor Sunday February 18th, 2007 1:58:58 AM
Valdor wrings his hands together and stands up. He looks over to Mordrid and makes sure he has the crystal up where the adventurers can see. He looks around the room slowly, locking eyes with each person and nodding before moving on to the next. He makes sure that he has everyone's attention before he begins.
He says quietly, "That book contains a short list of names, yet the history and story of each group in there, is long indeed. As are the list of accomplishments and adventures of each group, both for good and bad. Each one listed there had their own reasons for becoming Dragons, and each group has its own personality, as does each member of each group.
The Dragon Consortium was formed to recognize those groups of adventurers who had excelled greatly throughout their careers. It also was formed to give a voice and opinions on Wold shaping events, since these groups normally had much to do with the outcome of such events.
But why the Dragon Consortium? We all know that, in the Wold, dragons are considered the most powerful individual beings alive. For the most part, they are intelligent, strong, fearless, majestic beings to be seen. To be a Dragon group, is to strive for such things. Unfortunately, some dragons are corrupt, greedy, vile, vicious monsters who care nothing for others. Dragon groups also can become such in their arrogance because of their influence and power.
Mordrid made famous the quote "that's what being a Dragon is all about". He said it partially in jest, but in the past few years, it has brought more meaning to me than I ever dreamed.
You see, what being a Dragon group means is this: helping those who need it, fighting other peoples' battles who can't fight it for themselves, standing up for what is right-even if it's not the popular thing to do. It means self sacrifice. You sacrifice your monies, your time, your hobbies, and maybe even your lives. You lead by example. Sometimes, you have to lead with demands.
Too many times, I have had to make demands of people that I did not want to make. So many times, I have made people mad with decisions I have made, for the benefit of the Wold and its good inhabitants. You will never make everyone happy. At times, you will feel as if you make noone happy. Some groups shirk this responsibility and simply use their status as a way to bring wealth and power to themselves, forgetting what got them to where they are.
What being a Dragon really means is being part of a family. Being a powerful individual, yes, but something much larger than that. It means building shelters in Shantytown. It means helping them when a flood wipes out the meager existence they have. It means defending the small against the large. It means wiping out a black dragon and his lackeys when they attack someone who is allied with us. It means fighting where others would simply run. It means going to other countries and forging alliances to keep your people safe, even when you would rather just go to war. It means facing evil dragons and liches and destroying evil wherever it is.
It means to love... to care... to nurture... to teach.
It also means to fight. When you have no other choice or option, it means fighting with all your heart. Winning is the only option sometimes, and you must find a way to do that. You must always be prepared. If I could teach you one thing from my not too limited knowledge of battle, it is this: know your opponent, do not underestimate them, prepare yourself in mind and body, devise a plan, and fight to win... and only to win.
You must have faith in others. I have had faith in my group since we formed and it has paid dividends. I know that any member of our group could assume leadership immediately, were I to leave or die. I am simply the voice of the Platinum Dragons. The Gods may have blessed me with physical strength, but I am not the smartest. Mordrid, Mycroft, Gareth, Onrad, Jus, that mage with the funny eyes, Joe Hand, Jandar, Father Nick, Dae'lin, Cori, Dahlia, Ve Mundre... any of these and so many more, could lead the group.
Surrounding yourselves with capable and good people is the key to becoming a Dragon Group. Living and working of single mind is a key, as well. Doing what must be done when there are no others who can do it is a necessity. You must be one in mind and purpose. If there is dissension among you, it must be resolved and quickly, or you will die. The battles we fight are not against goblins anymore. Not that we are above such things, but there are larger, more dangerous foes out there. The Parnoths of the Wold, the Lathiese's and their plots, the heartseeding clerics of Ailsidur, Koshe Marr and its evil minions, undead in the thousands, the evil drow from under the surface are always a threat... and the list goes on.
Compassion must always be found in your heart, as well. Parnoth sent an assassin amidst our group once. Yet, when the Usurper had captured him and was making evil half dragons with his life blood, we rescued him. Partially to stop the production of that foul army, but, as much as I personally hated and despised him, patially out of compassion for his dire situation. Would he have done the same? Not a chance. But that matters little. We will be judged in the end by what we did and what we carried in our hearts.
So, to summarize: being a Dragon Group is about power, strength, and influence. But more importantly, it is about helping, teaching, mending, caring, and loving.
Aerelia asked a question after our fight with the black dragon. She asked, "Is this what happens to anyone who gets in our way?" My answer was and still is, "He chose his path, and it was one of evil. He wasted his talent and chose to hurt and kill, so yes, he is dead." At least, that's close to what was said. We are judged by our choices. What's in your hearts will determine your choices. So my challenge is this: have compassion and love in your heart. Only kill when you must, but when you must, do it with strength and purpose. Serve the good peoples of the Wold and always protect those who cannot protect themselves.
I am Valdor the Dragonstone. I was bestowed this title and the amulet that bears my position by Lady Maab, who was given the position by Alemi himself, who was the first Dragonstone. I did not ask for it, but received it with humility when given. My judgement on this decision is final, but I will hear any who disagree that the Emerald Talons have earned their right to become members of the Consortium and will listen with my mind open. I hearby nominate the Talons for Consortium membership. The Gold Dragons, Storm Dragons, and Platinum Dragons have given their blessing. I now give the floor to any who dissent amongst the Consortium."
By the time he is finished, he looks tired. His face has lines of strain not seen before. It's almost as if he relived many of his terribly hard decisions as he explained that the Talons will have to make. Looking at him, it's easy to see why there are not many Dragon groups. Not many could shoulder the responsibility thrown at them from every direction. Not many could stay together in one mind for long enough to live such a life. And very few... oh so few, could indeed make the personal sacrifice required of those who would call themselves Dragons. He sits down to let any other give their voice.
Dahlia / Ingrge Sunday February 18th, 2007 9:04:58 AM
Dahlia looks up at her friend, sighs and then answers quietly. "What's next? Well I have left my vineyard running in other people's hands, so perhaps it is tim,e for me to a bit of overseeing. There is quite a bit of land still around Middleden that would make good pasture as well, and perhaps I will relax for a while and DO absolutely nothing. But as Valdor stand and catches each person's eye, she quiets and listens to what he has to say.
*******
Ingrge listens to what Valdor is saying and takes a moment to reflect upon his the past years with the Talons. Yes there have been disagreements and even several times things have almost come to blows between members, but together they have always managed to not only make it through, but somehow managed to keep sane in what was quickly becoming an insane world.
Not for the first or last time, the old scarred elf thinks back on other members of the Talons that had been a part of the group and then moved on in one form or another; Shadrack, Fleuterflam, Xanthalos, Maloray, Dakar, Athalorn, Orson, Figment. Sending his best wishes to them all where ever they might be, he wished that Figment, Fluet, and Shad had been able to be here, with them here at this moment, to see the fulfillment of what they had each started out to do, with a group of individuals they each met inside one of Parnoth's Cells. No, not for glory, but for peace, security and yes love, the Talons would prevail.
Posting Reports for Game # 3 The Emerald Talons For the week of Feb 12,2007
Lian Monday February 19th, 2007 10:01:45 AM
Listens to Valdor intently.
Ve Mundr Monday February 19th, 2007 1:13:06 PM
Ve bids Alicia a good eveing for now. She seemed as agreeable as he thought she might be, given the City's current state. After the next official part of the inaugeration they could discuss specifics. Given why they were all gathered here this night, Ve does not want to make any sort of official announcement. it was good enough that the three of them new as Ve requests Alicia to officially share his request with the Gargulian representative.
The dignitaries exit from the room and the real business starts. Ve sweeps to a tray a picks up a sniff of brandy and falls to a position slightly back of the rest. valdor speaks and Ve listens and more than that, he watches the Talons. He knew very little of them for the most part and of what he did know, it was hardly worth dissensions. Time would tell. Upon valdors close, Ve looks towards K'nara.
Gunther Monday February 19th, 2007 1:25:31 PM
The warrior mouth slightly agape, Gunther beings to daydream as Valdor's speech goes on and on and on... It's not that he doesn't appreciate the obvious heart felt speech, or doubts the truth to the words being told to him. It's just that it's hard for him to follow such a long train of thought. He sighs with relief when Valdor gives his fairly long summary. I think I can remember that... Gunther looks over at K'nara, trying to gauge what she makes of all this. She's always been the brains of the group anyway.
Glancing down at the cat at his feet, Gunther is glad to see that she has finished her dinner and is busy meticulously cleaning herself. He sighs, reluctantly admitting to himself that this is probably not the last long meeting he's going to have to attend. So... there was a down side to being a hero after all.
Maab [DM Jerry] Monday February 19th, 2007 2:28:35 PM
With an unnassuming flash, a portal appears. A beautiful human exits the portal.
"Not many see me in my human form. I am Maab. the Council of Dragons wishes it known that they have met and wish to add their support to the Emerald Talons. We earnestly hope that they choose to join the Consortium.
"May the gods shine upon you and give you strength, courate, and the ability to show mercy."
She bows towards each of the Talons in turn and then pauses for effect.
Then she returns through the portal and it disappears.
Onrad [DM Jerry] Monday February 19th, 2007 2:43:12 PM
"A suitable time has passed Dragonstone. Tradition suggests that the Platinums now exit the room leaving the Talons alone to discuss their final decision.
"Shall we all join the dignitaries in the bar for a time and leave the Talons to discuss this?"
Onrad walks to the huge double doors and waving a hand at them, bids them to open.
They do.
Milo Monday February 19th, 2007 6:18:59 PM
Milo sits quietly, a stunned look on his face. The enormity of the task of the decision that lay before them finally sinking into the halfling's curious brain.
(OOC: I apologize for missing the end of last week. Sudden business took me out of town, and my Internet access was nil.)
Olana Monday February 19th, 2007 8:45:43 PM
Olana sits quietly and listens to what Valdor has to say. His words come as no surprise, although as she begins to ponder over the scope of things, it has her more than a little apprehensive. All these other places, Aisildur for instance. What the heck did they really know about Aisildur? There would be the getting to know of their Emperor, and that weird cleric who'd accompanied him on this jaunt, and there were other places and people, too - the Float, oh my..... Deep in thought, she starts tugging at a stray piece of hair.
Nick Valentine Monday February 19th, 2007 9:02:29 PM
((OOC - Wicked post, SteveH!))
Having been in service to Alemi since he was about seven years old, Valdor's talk of self sacrifice and faith rest easy on his own shoulders. And not knowing any other way of life, he holds a certain assumption that the Talons will take all this on board as a matter of course. After all, what other way is there?
He will rise with the others and leave the room when the time comes.
Falin Monday February 19th, 2007 10:42:54 PM
Listening to all that is transpiring he thinks back to his earlier years... Everything was so simple then. He knew that everything was about to get more comlicated. They were taking on a mantly of responsibility the likes of which none of them had every held before.
Corialote and Amarth Tuesday February 20th, 2007 12:06:54 AM
Cori pats Dahlia's shoulder as she completely understands. They are at a crossroads themselves that none of them had forseen. As Valdor begins his speech she purses her lips and shakes her head. She may have the brains to run the group but not the faith in herself...no she would have been constantly second guessing each decision. Besides, with Valdor gone she would have no reason to stay around...unless it was for selfish reason. She shakes off the thoughts and turns to the door as the speech ends.
Amarth comes down to land upon her shoulder as she moves towards the big doors that are now open. She has faith that this group can find their way. They have the tools and heart, but they must be willing to seize the rings and make the play.
Valdor Tuesday February 20th, 2007 12:22:15 AM
Valdor waits until everyone else leaves then says, "You must choose for yourselves. But, even though it sounds like a huge undertaking... and it is... there will always be plenty of support for you. As Domi told me as I handed him his hammer after his battle with Marteaus: have courage."
He smiles gently, knowing the decision they want to make, but knowing he just made it a lot harder for them to accept. Of course, noone had told the Gold Dragons the truth of it, and he wasn't going to ever be accused of that. He bows deeply and exits, pulling the doors closed behind them all.
Lian Tuesday February 20th, 2007 11:20:26 AM
This whole thing was big. Life-changing. Not for the faint of heart. He looks at Knara as if to say 'What now?'. He shrugs.
K'Nara Tuesday February 20th, 2007 2:42:40 PM
The leader of the Emerald Talons watches as those who are not members of the group withdraw, leaving them to their private counsel.
"It comes down to this..." K'Nara says firmly, "...we're in a position--again--to what's easy...or to do what's right. The easy thing to do would be to thank everyone for the great party and go back to Madryn as the Emerald Talons, basking in the gratitude of the village. And...besides being easy, it's right--in a way." K'Nara shrugged with a slight smile. "It's not going to be at all easy to live with knowing that practically everything a member of the Dragon Consortium does will be watched and judged...but it's a chance to do good for all the Wold..."
(OOC: out of time on this post--there IS more to come; most likely will finish it after work.)
Crucial Point [DM Jerry] Tuesday February 20th, 2007 2:42:43 PM
Shortly, all of the Platinum Dragons withdraw out of the Hall.
Onrad says, "Talons, would you like for Mordrid to shut off the Viewing Device for this or leave it on?"
Once he gets his answer, and complies with their wishes, he exits himself and the huge doors silently close.
The Talons are alone.
Aeralia Tuesday February 20th, 2007 8:03:10 PM
Aeralia flushes a bright red at Valdor's mention of her question, back in the cave. It was a momentary break of her visage she'd presented that evening, blocking off all the emotions and worries that the events would bring forth.
She breathes heavily for a few moments, still a bit flustered, trying to regain her composure. She did still have alot of doubts about the group, but mostly about herself.
After K'nara speaks, Aeralia takes a moment to stand, and address the rest of the talons. "I've not been with you all long, and I won't lie that I've not had my doubts. Powerful, and...expensive people," she continues, choosing her words slowly as she looks amongst the Talons, "have never really been deserving of much respect in my eyes. Growing up, I saw far too often the rich and powerful only using that for their own personal gain, and not for the shambled and ruined lives that surrounded me, the ones that really needed help."
She smiles a bit, continuing to look from Talon to Talon, pausing at each briefly. "However, the past few days, in your company, have certainly opened my eyes. I cannot say why I was taken along with you in this endevour, or why you would continue to want me in your midst. I've never been shown that kind of courtesy, never been given a chance like this."
She breathes deeply, pausing momentarily. "All of you really seem to care about the people you fight for." Looking towards Olana and Milo, "You've love and compassion, and great friendships and caring," shifting her glance over Lian and Bertram. "I believe these wonderful feelings, combined with your excellent cooperation and teamwork, as well as drive to do what is right no matter what, is just the basis of why you will all make wonderful Dragon members."
"And if you'd still wish to have me along, I'd be most honored to help in whatever way that I can, whatever your decision is. I've never really had anywhere to call home, anyone to call family. Might be a pleasant change."
Gunther Tuesday February 20th, 2007 10:44:24 PM
The warrior smiles at Aeralia. "If it vasn't for you, I don't tink all of us vould be here tonight." He raises his slab of cake in her direction.
With a more sober look on his face, Gunther looks over the Talons seated before him. "Do ve disagree on sometings, I tink dis is von ting ve can agree about. To do our best to make de Vold a better place. As long as ve focus on dat, den I don't suppose it matters vether ve are Dragons or not."
Lian Wednesday February 21st, 2007 12:26:59 PM
The monk stands in silence. He is pondering the meaning of everything that has been said this day.
The Wold Holds Its Breath [DM Jerry] Wednesday February 21st, 2007 12:57:45 PM
The Wold holds its breath as the decision is being made. Great Evils stop their incessant planning to see how the Emerald Talons will affect the balance. Great Good pray and hope that they will have new allies. Law hopes that they will stand for laws and justice. Chaos hopes that they will protect the individual freedom of each person.
Even the Fae watch and wonder how this will affect the fickle balance of nature.
Olana Wednesday February 21st, 2007 4:55:57 PM
The narrow-faced elf blows back a strand of stray hair and says - "Gunther, I couldn't have put it better." She looks around. "All this, " and gesturing toward the door, "and them. It all looks pretty daunting and strange, but when you get right down to it, it's all about 'De Vold'."
Nick Valentine Wednesday February 21st, 2007 4:59:04 PM
In the bar, Nick decides to throw caution to the wind and exchange pleasantries with the Aisildurians. He fully intends to converse with the Float representatives, too, and others.
Milo Wednesday February 21st, 2007 8:15:27 PM
Looking around the room in solemnity, "I'm one very small person in a very big place. That said... I pride myself on being a bothersome thorn in the side of evil... and those who would oppress those weaker than themselves. I don't see this any differently, then another opportunity to step up and do more of the same. So... call me the thorny one... but I'm up for this next challenge... whatever it may bring."
Ingrge Wednesday February 21st, 2007 9:42:47 PM
Ingrge listens, digests, walks around the room a bit and then stis down. He lloks like he wants to say something but isn't sure how it will be received, or pehaps he thinks it might be misconstrued. In either case, he looks around at each of the people in the room and then gets back up and begins to meander through the room yet again. After a moment or two more of walking Ingrge stops and faces the rest of his family.
"As I look around this room I see the faces of those whom I love and care for. I also know that I would lay my life down for each and every one of you.
It was not so long ago that we were called puppets, and Misfits. And at times I suppose, we may have even felt the part. However, from the time we first met, we have been involved with a part of something bigger than us and we have always risen to the occasion, and I say here and now that the only one pulling our strings was us.
And while some of our exploits have brought us renown and wealth, we have used much of what we have for the betterment of those in need. Perticularly in the Emerald Kingdom, though not exclusively. But no matter what, all along the way, there has always been one constant driving force. Compassion.
I can not speak for any other in this room nor would I presume to, however, for myself, at this time, I pledge myself to the people in this room to do everything and all I can to keep each and everyone of you alive and to help those in the Wold that cannot help themselves. And if that means leaving Parnoth alone for a while longer, then so be it. For my part I say that we accept the offer of becoming part of the dragon consortium and just perhaps we can leave a lasting impression in the Wold."
Valdor Thursday February 22nd, 2007 12:07:39 AM
Valdor drains an ale and sits quietly, waiting for another drink. His mind is a thousand miles away, it would appear, as if reliving his part of the decision to become Dragons and what it meant. It hadn't been an easy decision either. They had grown rich and powerful back then, and had no real responsibilities. They travelled where they wanted, answered to noone really, and didn't have to deal with politics. He knew, however, the emptiness of such a life and how unfulfilling it was. Yes you could do good things and destroy bad guys and all that. But really making a difference in the Wold...he mutters a quick prayer to Domi that he hopes he has been a good leader and has helped make a good decision in the Platinum's replacement.
Cori and Amarth Thursday February 22nd, 2007 12:40:00 AM
Cori retires to the Ghost and moves to take a seat next to Valdor. "Do you think they will choose the safer path or the harder one?" She herself never really had to walk this path. She had joined up with the group as they were nearing the end of their career and so was safe from most of the problems that came with the job. "If they do not become Dragons...do we still retire?" Her voice is mixed with emotion as she asks that last bit. Part of her wants to continue the good fight but another part of her wants to just settle down and live life.
K'Nara Thursday February 22nd, 2007 3:06:16 AM
The crystal balls--having never been turned off--continue to show all who would watch the way these erstwhile Emerald Talons make their particular decision.
K'Nara Illutu, the Wold's only human blade singer, smiles at her family--for they are all her family, at least in her own heart.
"Sometimes I want to kick Lian in the butt for doubting his contribution to the group." she admits. "Bertram wrestles with self-doubt from time to time, too, and that can make me feel a bit exasperated. Ingrge can be the Wold's most dour elf...Olana can be a bit naive...Milo's sense of humor sometimes is ill-timed...Aeralia needs to be a bit more assertive and Gunther..." here the chestnut-maned woman rolls her eyes, "...Gunther lets Thaeri get away with a little too much sometimes." K'Nara pours some wine into a goblet.
"As for me...I let my emotions get the best of me all too often...but I wouldn't have any of us be any other way than we are." The leader of the Emerald Talons stands up, lifting the goblet. "None of us here would be what we are if it weren't for The Wold, so I offer a toast that you may all join in if you agree with the spirit:
"Here's to The Wold, to every Woldian there is, and ever was, and ever shall be...long may the Emerald Dragons protect it!" So saying, K'Nara looks around the table at her family and waits to see who else will drink to her toast.
Gunther Thursday February 22nd, 2007 7:20:27 AM
The cat trainer grins at K'nara's assesement as he raises his glass. "To de Emerald Dragons!"
Falin Thursday February 22nd, 2007 8:47:45 AM
Falin stands and raises his goblet as well. "To the Emerald Dragons."
After taking a drink he says with a smile, "Does this mean we have to get green outfits?"
Mordrid Thursday February 22nd, 2007 10:52:03 AM
Mordrid sits in silence, reading the future in his head of beer, apparently.
With the resounding shout from the next room, the ranger can hear a declaration. They have accepted. Mordrid smiles.
Lian Thursday February 22nd, 2007 11:15:02 AM
The elf glances at Knara, smirks and raises a mug of honey wine. "To the Emerald Dragons. To us."
He thinks a moment about how the Emerald Dragons will bring balance, discipline and honor to the Wold.
Ve Mundr Thursday February 22nd, 2007 1:56:09 PM
A bit overprotective of his friend? Maybe, but Ve Mundr is standing just behind Father nicks right shoulder as he moves to talk to the Aisildurians. Ve begins nodding, but from the hue and cry in the room where the Talons were weighing their most recent decision, rather than anything else.
Onrad [DM Jerry] Thursday February 22nd, 2007 3:42:29 PM
Onrad paces just outside the huge double doors, waiting to be summoned. He hears the shouts and just for a second, he worries about attack.
He talks to himself, "I need to learn to relax."
Then refusing to read anything into the shout, he goes back to pacing until called.
Assorted NPCs (DM Jan) Thursday February 22nd, 2007 9:47:16 PM
Emperor of Aisildur and Sister Toscani -
For the most part, conversation between these two, and Nick and Ve is nothing but small talk - the journey here, the food, the weather. But as the muffled hail is heard through the doors, Sister Toscani smiles then gives a sigh. "Lambs to the slaughter," she says quietly. "Without a god's direct support, guidance and protection, they will forever be open to temptation and failure." She's about to say something else to Nick, but her eyes flick toward Ve Mundr, and then the Emperor, who is regarding her with disapproval. She shakes her head and says nothing more.
Valdora -
Valdora is doing her best to get a good look at the Overlord and her guardian, without it being obvious. She picks up a glass someone has left on a table, brings it to her mouth, sips at the contents and looks over the top of it toward those who currently hold her interest. Ugh. She shudders. Why did people drink this stuff when it tasted so bad? The lady looked young. Not much older than she was, although she supposed she must be. Well, despite her youth, the lady had the same look in her eye that her dad sometimes had. Remote, hard. Did that come with being in charge all the time? Who knew. She takes another sip. As for the lady's companion, he looked like someone had been throwing axes at him since birth. He had scars everywhere - all over his head, all over his hands, and she suspected the rest of him wouldn't look any better. And what was that smoke, hovering around his feet? Maybe his shoes were on fire. Trying to cover her laughter with another drink, she almost chokes on it and swallows more than she intended to.
Blinking rapidly, she walks over to where Shirri and Mordrid are sat, slides unsteadily onto a bar stool, places the half empty wine glass very carefully in front of her, and stares straight ahead. Woah.
Valdor Friday February 23rd, 2007 1:00:37 AM
Valdor responds to Cori, "There's your answer. And no, we wouldn't be retiring if we didn't have a group strong enough to continue on what we were continuing from those before us. I'm still young and really have no desire to retire, except to spend more time doing what I, and those close with me, want to do... and less politics is always a good thing as far as I'm concerned."
He looks at her with passion in his eyes and says, "Since they have accepted, we can spend all the time together we want, without the problems of the Wold weighing on our shoulders. Although we've handled it as well as any could, I'm glad to let someone else shoulder all that responsibility for a while. Maybe we should get married and have little quarter elf, quarter human, half drow babies. That may be a first in the Wold. What do you think?"
Olana Friday February 23rd, 2007 1:46:34 AM
Olana raises her goblet. "Emerald.... Dragons."
It felt strange to actually say it.
Falin Friday February 23rd, 2007 2:29:46 AM
"I know we will soon face dangers untold and fear unimaginable, but I actually feel all tingly. I am finally realizing that we are now going to be an integral part of the course of history for the Wold."
He looks over everyone present, "I am glad and proud to be a part of this group. I could think of no one else to have stand next to me to keep the forces of evil at bay."
Milo Friday February 23rd, 2007 9:36:05 AM
At peace with the entire situation Milo stands, cup held high, "The Emerald Dragons."
Lian Friday February 23rd, 2007 12:16:50 PM
"Domi help us." Says the hand of Domi, barely audible to even himself. He sips his honey wine.
Onrad Friday February 23rd, 2007 2:13:55 PM
Taking his queue from the Crystal Ball, he smiles and opens the huge doors again.
He walks importantly down the hall and motions for the others to silently join him in a procession to the main hall again.
Procession [DM Jerry] Friday February 23rd, 2007 2:24:29 PM
The Emerald Talons see the doors open and the Consortium members as well as the political figures of the area slowly and solemnly walk back into the room to stand around the Talons in a circle.
Onrad looks to Valdor to take the lead here.
Ve Mundr Friday February 23rd, 2007 3:27:37 PM
Ve's hands flash faster than the eye can see to either side of Sister Toscani's head and with a quick motion, he twists it off. holding her now severed head before the heartseed in her chest, "Yes, you know all about temptation and failure, else you would not have that embedded in your chest you worthless wretch."
At least that flashes through his mind as her eyes flicker to him and he levels a soul burning gaze in return.
Ingrge Saturday February 24th, 2007 8:22:09 AM
Looking around, the normally dour elf gives a brief smile as his comrades each raise their glasses and complete the toast. While he never had any real doubt that any would accept the challenge, a moment of sight comes upon him as he see the Tal.. Emeralds as indistinct figures but realizes that one of there number is missing. Raising his glass he looks at K'nara and nods knowing that they had a lot of things to accomplish and that their work was cut out for them.
Valdor Saturday February 24th, 2007 4:12:21 PM
Seeing their time was upon them, Valdor stands with a smile to Cori and to his daughter(letting her know he sees her, but doesn't mind). He moves into the room slowly and gestures to the book saying,"K'Nara, I believe the honor is yours to fill in your name."
He waits for her to do so then turns to the group and says,"Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Emerald Dragons! May they live long, serve well, and make good choices that benefit the Wold. A toast to their future successes!"
He raises his mug and drains it. He then says,"I blelieve it is time to party in celebration of this momentous event. Any who wish to, we will go to the Giggling Ghost for festivities. We leave all hostility and disagreements here. This is a time of joy and a chance to relax for the first time in who knows how long. Remember, what happens at the Ghost, stays at the Ghost...and no more dragon steaks."
He smiles and waits for the heroes and the other dignitaries present to exit. He tells his daughter that she is welcome, but no more alcohol. He finds Mordrid and embraces the ranger with a bear hug. There are tears in his eyes when he says,"And so it ends, and so it begins. We have done well, I believe. I think that when the Gods make their judgement, they will agree that while we were far from perfect, we did the best we were able, and that is enough. I couldn't have done any of this without you, my brother."
Corialote and Amarth Saturday February 24th, 2007 5:04:52 PM
Cori smiles at Valdor and then shrugs. "Part of me will miss the thrill...but another part is glad for the change of pace." Thinking over the last bit of idea from Valdor she nods her head. "I suppose would could give it a try...I would not be against a few kids...that may well be my greatest achievement in the Wold...or should I say our achievement." She snuggles in close to Valdor and then looks to Valdora. "Do you think your daughter will approve?" She so wants to be the young girls friend and not mess up either of the relationships she has.
Resigning that for later she moves back inside the room with the others and with the news she raises her own glass in salute and toast to the new group. "May you always be wise enough to follow your hearts, while listening to your common sense." It is a hard thing to do but it sometimes needs to be done, the two seem to go hand in hand an awful lot.
Lian, the Emerald Dragon Sunday February 25th, 2007 3:10:23 PM
The monk leans into Aeralia. "Miss, I will not be going to the Ghost. Crowds and goggle-eyed enthusiests aren't my thing. Feel free to go."
Lian stands and makes for a server or attendant. "Do you have a nice, quiet place for me? I need to meditate on tonight's events."
Gunther and Thaeri Sunday February 25th, 2007 11:00:40 PM
Gunther waits for K'nara to sign the book and the takes her arm. "Sounds like fun. Shall ve?" With a quick hand signal, Gunther motions for his Kitty to follow.
Stretching lazily, the big cat rises and saunters along, licking her lips. "Hmmm...hope they have more food at this party. I'm starved."
K'Nara Monday February 26th, 2007 2:34:44 AM
K'Nara steps up to the open book, looking around once more in hopes of spying the face of Greymaulkin, her honored master in the art of the bladesong. Since she does not see him, she sighs but takes up the stylus, then, in a very bold hand, writes in the tome:
The Emerald Dragons
That having been done, the smiling, chestnut-maned blade singer takes Gunther's arm.
"Let's go party like it's 999!" she says, laughter sparkling in her hazel eyes.
Onrad Monday February 26th, 2007 3:10:17 PM
Onrad walks over to Lian. "The one-time leader of the Storm dragons, Gareth, also had a problem with his fame and with crowds.
"It is important for the Wold to know, especially the adventurers of the Wold, that you will lead them in protecting what we all hold dear.
"You don't have to say anything, but go to the Giggling Ghost. Stand with your group. Endure this challenge along with the rest. Then after a bit you can retire to your comtemplations."
