Still Running... DM Donna Tuesday February 13th, 2007 2:15:12 AM
The Chosen of Domi put as much distance between themselves and the monstrous lizard-like creature that had been trying to make a meal out of them. They keep up their pace for some time and come to a conclusion:
That jungle-covered pyramid-thing they'd seen from the other side of the bridge was farther away than they'd thought...and it was a good deal bigger than it had appeared from their original perspective.
It is late morning by the time they reach the foot of the structure, and now that they are at the actual site, they see that it isn't a pyramid, but a ziggurat--a step-pyramid--that has carvings in the worn stone that it is built from.
The ziggurat is at least four hundred feet tall and about two hundred feet (or so) on each side of its base (there are four sides to the base.)
Gecktar d20+8=20 d20+5=6 d20+2=19 Tuesday February 13th, 2007 3:13:40 AM "What a great monument" says Gecktar "Anyone has knowledge about the civilization that built this ziggurat."
"Only advanced civilization could have built this. I don't even realize what science of architecture is needed for such feats. Or magical, but it could not be less than direct divine power."
Gecktar seems very impressed by the monument and try to find by what means it have been constructed
Winterglade Tuesday February 13th, 2007 3:41:45 AM
Now that there is time Winterglade heals Brahmah as he intended to earlier [6xCMiW heals 6 points of damage].
Looking up at the stone construction he tilts his head to the side.
"Whoa, this very steep. Were Winterglade's powers still active he would circle around it and see what is on the top, but the way things are it will take him half a day if he needs to climb it."
"Maybe we should circle it and take a look around?"
Toros Tuesday February 13th, 2007 7:32:38 AM
As Toros arivies ahead of Flat-top, He scratches his head and ask "Is this what they call a ziggurat?? Odd looking I'd say!"
Flat-Top Tuesday February 13th, 2007 7:38:10 AM
Flat-top is covering the backs of the Chosens, for the first time turns to see the building. "A Ziggurat? is a monument?? Sounds like a rodent to me??" he tells Toros as he will still look out for those Lizards.

"Yes, super. Lets see if there are any carvings which will tell a story of this place. We really should inspect it first. See if anyone else has been here recently."
He takes off his cloak of comfort and retrieves his +2 cloak. He will don it as soon as he can.
"Heyoo, will you look around a bit. Tell me if there are others like us nearby."
"I look for tracks or signs of habitation. I need someone examining the ruins for religous significance. We also need a perimeter search and a taur stationed above the pyramid to keep an eagle eye on the surroundings... I wish Pah'caw was still here."
"Heyoo! Stop eating and look around you big lug! Come here." When the bear shows up at his side he casts his remaining Speak with Animals, SHARING with Heyoo.

Tunc / Toros Tuesday February 13th, 2007 11:42:32 PM
Dear All,
Great game and story so far, thanks a lot for keeping the Taurs alive. If my character survives and deserves to get some experience points, at least half of it should be Ceil's.
Sorry to extend my return once again, but hope this will be the last one. I am slowly catching up with going on all over, and what I have been mostly doing and been extending in my real life is going to be finished by the middle of March. To be more specifically I will be busy again for the next two weeks but for the following two weeks I will have more time. Then, I should return to normal as usual.
Hope to catch with the Chosen soon and good luck for the rest of the module!
Cheers, Tunc/Toros
Pyramid Scheme - DM Donna Wednesday February 14th, 2007 2:08:25 AM
Heyoo shuffles off into the nearby underbrush, snuffling and searching, very much on the lookout for other Taurs...as well as other hungry T-Rexes and the like.
Brahmah (and anyone else who looks closer at the great stone blocks that make up the ziggurat see that there are, indeed, carvings in the stone. The clinging vegetation makes it hard to see most of it, though. It is obvious, however, that the carvings tell a story, and even have symbols or pictographs that accompany them.
Thanks to his Helm, the leader of the Chosen soon comes to realize something rather amazing:
Ancient Wemics had apparently used to have a form of hieroglyphic writing...and the friezes in the stone along with the pictographs that accompany them begin to tell a story that unfolds as a set of steps winds its way up the sides of the primitive pyramid.
Winterglade Wednesday February 14th, 2007 3:37:35 AM
"The answers found in stone, yes? Good call, Captain. Let's see what it says."
Winterglade is right behind Brahmah, climbing the pyramid and reading the story.
Flat-top Wednesday February 14th, 2007 7:39:22 AM
Flat-top is still watching for the Lizards. As he was listening "Pictures in the stone tell a story?? How can that be?" He ask Toros.

Brahmah Wednesday February 14th, 2007 2:08:10 PM
Brahmah will 'read' the story out loud as he sees it unfold. "Glade, Zeoll, I suggest you both draw some of these figures and so we might take them back to the Fffiftt village, should they divulge anything new for the old story of teh Queen. I will peel away some foliage where I can." He begins pulling plants free, apologizing for disturbing any animals, insects or reptiles displaced by his activity. He tries not to destroy any vegetation while doing this. "It really is too bad... wait, is there a way to create an identical image of this script on paper? Or would you be able to duplicate it in an image later?" He asks the arcanists in the group.
Zeoll Wednesday February 14th, 2007 2:50:22 PM
Zeoll doesn't really have the skill to transcribe the symbols, since he is illiterate. But he does think that making a copy is a good idea.
He thinks about the riddles and rhymes he has heard. "Winterglade, maybe these are the 'answers found in stone.' I hope so."
He wishes he were experienced enough to be able to ask the stones to actually speak. Eventually he will do that.

It's the Story of a Lovely Lady - DM Donna Thursday February 15th, 2007 4:18:58 AM
Brahmah and Toros begin piecing together the carvings in the stone:
The friezes tell the story of how a magical sword ended up in the hands of a beautiful young wemic priestess, Motina, born of the Sunsetter clan. How the beautiful priestess became more and more enamored with her own power and beauty. How her suitor, the provider of the sword, eventually passed away. One frieze shows the priestess, now a mature liontaur, donning a large crown with a visor like piece that covers her face. Ever after in the depictions, she is seen with the crown, growing ever more powerful as the ruler of her people.
Though it is Brahmah who reads the majority of the tales shown by the carvings as the entire party ascends the steps cut into the sides of the ziggurat, it is Toros who manages to figure out that the dozens of tableaus span many generations, yet the wemic priestess' rule continues. War, destruction, disease and despair overtake the reign of the Veiled Queen, yet she still remains despite the passage of time.
Winterglade Thursday February 15th, 2007 8:31:14 AM
"A divine spellcaster hundreds of years old who achieved longevity, probably through undeath. The word we are looking for here is a lich, yes? Oh, this has epic written all over it. Let's all pray that this story has a happy ending, like maybe her being cast down to the lowest pits of hells. Otherwise this will quickly turn into a <do not approach without a Holy Devastator sword> quest."

"Epic is right. Fact is, the next chapter of the story won't be finished until we have the sword. We don't want the pages blackened by Vargas and the Diseased One. Lets find a door or something. Heyoo!?"
Moshushi Thursday February 15th, 2007 3:06:58 PM
"perhaps a lich, or perhaps she lives because of the helm? That might be good news. or worse news. Either way, the song said 'Names and places Veiled faces Many sins to atone Questions asked About the masked The answers found in stone'
She has a veiled face and is masked, and there seems to be plenty of sins. I do wish it said the answer was found on the stones, not in. The outside seems to ahve many qustions, and few answers

Still Climbing - DM Donna d6=4 Friday February 16th, 2007 1:44:55 AM
The Chosen--although they are climbing stairs that are scaled to the size and abilities of wemics, find the going a bit slow, mostly because of the vegetation that has overgrown the structure...it's a case of climb a few yards, clear a few bushels, climb another few yard, clear another few bushels, etc.
However, when Brahmah calls to Heyoo, the young black bear quite eagerly comes gallumphing up the cleared steps, almost barreling over the others in his haste to reach the ranger's side. (Everyone has to roll Reflex saves versus DC10 or be knocked down by the anxious bear. Natural ones on the die mean the unfortunate Taur not only falls onto the steps, but takes a bit of a tumble down one level, suffering 4hp damage and a considerably bent ego.)
Heyoo skids to a halt by Brahmah, the ursine eyeing the minotaur hopefully. Brahmah gets the definite feeling that the barely-adult bear has a snack on his mind.

Life Gets Interesting - DM Donna d20=14 Monday February 19th, 2007 1:09:41 PM
Heyoo makes a sound that is (if you'll pardon the paradox) sheepishly apologetic and tries to play on Brahmah's pity with a doleful, slightly hungry look.
Brahmah can tell that the bear is still trying to get some munchies, however.
Meanwhile: scaling the receding tiers of the vegetation-covered shrine, searching for hints all the while, the party eventually finds a hidden entrance mid-way up the western side...hidden, that is, by centuries-old growth of plants and vines.
The choice is clear at the moment: follow the outer stairs up...or see what the newly-discovered entrance may lead to.

It might in fact be needed to understand what we'll see in there. So, since Vargas isn't exactly breathing on our necks, let's see how the story ends while the sun is still up, yes?"

"Let's continue up to make surre that we do not miss anything."
Zeoll asks if the story-markings say anything about this entrance. Do those old glyphs continue here? Do they say anything new?
Brahmah Tuesday February 20th, 2007 11:23:35 AM
"Don't be so sure. Vargas is smarter than I would like to think. Marteuas wouldn't set him on such a task if he was a moron." He looks over his shoulder at the horizon. "Fact is, he might of already been here and gone. He might be inside. We don't know."
He goes back to analizing the glyph's story.
Gecktar Tuesday February 20th, 2007 2:39:41 PM "You're right Glade. Maybe learning the story will give us clues about what we will discover inside."

Split Decision - DM Donna Thursday February 22nd, 2007 2:49:38 AM DM OOC: my apologies...my schedule means I am now working second shift and it keeps throwing my timing off.
Heyoo--following Brahmah's directive--disappears into the newly-discovered entrance.
All the checks and careful observations made by various party members reveal that nobody but the Chosen has been in this area for a very long time...decades, if not longer.
The party climbs the outside of the ziggurat, continuing to read the story of the empire created by the Veiled Queen:
The Queen is featured prominently, always wearing the shielded headdress...always bearing the Black Sword. Her triumphs are many: she leads the way while invading enemy tribes, slaying many and enslaving more; she repels an attack of hellhounds and demons; she demands tribute from bipedal beings who come to the island in great ships. Many are her accomplishments, and yet many of her own people suffer even as her empire grows.
Suddenly the steps stop--the party is at the very top of the ziggurat, where there is a half-finished statue of a female wemic...it is missing its head.
Flat-top Thursday February 22nd, 2007 4:39:04 AM
Flat-top braces for the cold nose of Heyoo?? BUT No Bear!?? The center looks up?? No Bear??

Toros is busy looking at the story of the Vailed Queen, When Flat-top interupes his work. Toros looks up and sure enough NO BEAR!
Toros hurries uo to the entrance! He slowly enters looking at the walls, THEN at the statue?? "Well! Lookie! Here!" He tells all??
Winterglade d20+1=10 Thursday February 22nd, 2007 5:16:30 AM
"Interesting."
A moment of silence.
"Well, the story was inconclusive."
Winterglade slowly walks around the statue, examining it closely [Search 10].
"Think a secret passage might open when we place the missing head here?"
"Maybe not. Sometimes an unfinished statue is just an unfinished statue. Shall we go see if the bear is still alive, now?"
Zeoll Thursday February 22nd, 2007 10:05:45 AM
Zeoll looks carefully at the statue. Is it carrying a sword? If so, he'll look closely at it.
Then, if no one objects, Zeoll will cast his remaining second level spell: An extended small earth elemental. Speaking to the elemental in its native tongue, he asks it to move into the stone of the pyramid-top, looking for secret doors, hollows, secret compartments, and chambers that are close by. He has to be back within five rounds so that he can spend his sixth round telling Zeoll what he found.
While the elemental looks around, Zeoll asks the guides if they have ever been here, or have any light to shed.
The Chosen must be pretty high up in the air here, right? Zeoll takes a good look around, looking for outbuildings, patterns, or other signs that are easily visible from the air.
Zeoll tells Winterglade that his idea is a good one. "The idea of putting the head back on to gain entrry is cleverr, Glade. Let's look at the neck stump to see if therre is any mechanism orr sign that a head might fit on therre."
Zeoll also casts Detect Magic, unless someone else wants to, on the statue and area.
"Glade, do you want to check to see if it is evil?"
"Brrahmah, rrememberr how you werre generrously offerring to help make some tattoos? I'm thinking about Crreate Waterr and Detect Evil."
Brahmah Thursday February 22nd, 2007 11:30:23 AM
"Now is not the time for thinking about tattoos. We need to all be thinking clearly. Besides, the adventure on the island from hell relieved me of my inks for such a tat."
He then begins looking at the scuffed moss and lichen where his bear had been, then enters the hidden door if possible.
Gecktar Thursday February 22nd, 2007 12:41:04 PM
Gecktar contemplate the surrounding, looking around as a threatcould emerge from the forest.
"Is it magical ?" does he asks Zeoll, "let me see if its evil..."
He mutters strange words and his eyes flashes an instant. He turns to look at he statue.

Searching the Area - DM Donna Friday February 23rd, 2007 1:54:41 AM
Heyoo is a level or three below the Chosen, scraping at the vegetation that keeps most of an almost-open plateau of sorts from the party's sight.
Meanwhile, at the top of the ziggurat, the Chosen poke around. Anyone making an Intelligence check versus DC12 (you can add any bonuses your PC may have involving stonework or sculpting) can tell that the statue (as well as this very upper level of the structure) was interrupted before it got finished--and that the head was deliberately knocked off the rest of the work. There is no sign of the head here on this level of the ziggurat.
Both the Detect Evil and the Detect Magic spells reveal nothing.
Everyone's Spot and/or Search checks reveal nothing as well.
Zeoll's earth elemental slips seamlessly into the stone and will be a little bit before it returns.
Winterglade Friday February 23rd, 2007 4:47:19 AM
"Yes, Winterglade does want to see if it is evil. Unfortunately, he can't. He doesn't have enough power left in him."
[After the search is complete:]
"Well, looks like regular ornamentation to Winterglade. We are not even sure if this is a temple of some kind or a tomb."
[Looking down:]
"Captain, wait. If this is a tomb it might be a trap city. Is anyone good at searching and finding such things? If so, please go first!"
"Otherwise Winterglade says we let the bear go in front of us."
Despite all his talking the centaur follows Brahmah inside, ready to heal should need be.

Heyoo's path hasn't led him to a "cave"...it was a sort of short hallway that led to another plateau of the ziggurat--one that is several levels lower than the top of the ziggurat--where the bear is now scraping and munching at some of the vines that had been obscuring the level a bit. Brahmah's link to his animal companion notifies him that Heyoo is now happily consuming berry-laden plants...and that there seems to be some more female wemics carved into the stone where he's at.
Yummmmm! The berries are very good...!
Winterglade Saturday February 24th, 2007 4:07:15 AM
[Oh, I thought it was an entrance to the inside of the ziggurat. All clear now.]
Winterglade, who is following Brahmah, notices the unusual behavior of the bear.
"Looks like he found the next chapter. Let's go take a look."
Flat-top Saturday February 24th, 2007 7:54:23 AM
Flat-top is looking at the sceenery, when Winterglade braks in to his though!. "What a beautiful place. What!! The bear is down on a lower level?? Oh! that's why he not borthering me! Well let's go see what Heyou got himself into?? It's got to be food!! But I just want to see. Coming Toros?." The Centour leave to go down to see what the bear is up to.
Toros Saturday February 24th, 2007 7:58:18 AM
Toros is paying almost no attention to Flat-top, but he does answer him almot automacly "No! I'm staying here for a little while longer!" He comtinues to examanig the statue, he find it (Statue) very intresting.
Brahmah Sunday February 25th, 2007 3:13:33 PM
The Captain nods to Glade and moves to the bears location to read the next chapter.
Bear-ly Noticeable - DM Donna Monday February 26th, 2007 2:29:27 AM
The party descends back down to where Heyoo's entrance is, and enter the covered mini-tunnel. When they get to the end, they see the black bear tearing off another berry-laden vine from what appears to be a huge doorframe, complete with doors and doorknockers carved into the stone. The portal is flanked by two large, bipedal leonine figures that stand 12 feet tall each and have inlaid red glass for their eyes. Clearly this is merely bas-relief, however...not a real door. At least, it doesn't look like it from where the party is standing...about 100 feet away.
Heyoo sits to one side of the leftmost figure, using both paws to hold his vine as he slurps off the reddish-purple berries from it. He is very happy at the moment.
Gecktar Monday February 26th, 2007 3:22:09 AM
Gecktar comes close to the apparent door to examine it. He take his hammer and gives light hits on the door to see if there is a space behind.

Flat-top and Toros Monday February 26th, 2007 6:43:46 AM
Flat-top and Toros are the last Taurs to enter the tunnel. They stand there with Mouth open?? Both speak at the same time "BOY! LOOK AT THOSE PUPPIES!!"
Toros ask Flat-top, "I wonder if those eyes are Rubies?"
Flat-top answers, "I don't know and not intrested!"
Winterglade Monday February 26th, 2007 8:45:27 AM
[Quietly:] "Rubies or not, it would be bad style to try to pull them out. Our guides might object, too."
The centaur cautiously approaches the door.
"So far we have very little in way of answers. We'll have to explore inside - if there is inside to explore, that is."
"Winterglade has no power in him left to detect magic."
"We need to search this area carefully, but Winterglade is not good at it."
Zeoll Monday February 26th, 2007 10:21:36 AM
Zeoll won't leave the summit until his elemental returns, or seven rounds after the spell was cast, whichever comes first. He wants to hear the elemental's report.
After that he catches up with the party.
DM OOC: aaaack! Forgot about the elemental! LOL
The elemental does return, stating that there are rooms within that are large enough for the taurs to go through. The rooms are not occupied by anything alive that is larger than a bat or a rat. If asked, it didn't see anything that resembled a sword...but it only went down and explored the uppermost two levels before needing to return before time ran out.
Zeoll Monday February 26th, 2007 2:06:20 PM
Most important ... Zeoll assumes that the elemental found no way to enter these rooms from the top of the pyramid? How much stone/earth would one have to remove to get to one of the chambers from above?
To DM Donna, Highlight to display spoiler: {PS: Sorry to be investigating from the "wrong direction." feel free to indicate that it would be impractical to enter from above!}
Brahmah Monday February 26th, 2007 7:40:47 PM
"Leave the structure as is! No mucking with things. This is a holy place of sorts!" The minotaur grows dark in the face when he thinks someone is stealing from the wemic's holy shrine.
"Is that a two-legged wemic? How intersting." He is ammused and slightly delighted at that figure. (Assuming he has seen it.)
Suddenly...! - DM Donna Tuesday February 27th, 2007 2:18:16 AM
The earth elemental apologizes to Zeoll--there is no entrance at the very top of the ziggurat...the stones are all sealed together. No doorway or secret entrance at the top at all.
Then the elemental crumbles away.
Gecktar strides forward, still not seeing any indication that the carving of the doorway is anything but semi-3D bas-relief.
However...
Suddenly, when Gecktar is within 50 feet of the "doorway", the eyes of the bipedal cat-figures flare with a ruby light and a voice booms out in the Wemic tongue:
(those who can understand Wemic) Highlight to display spoiler: {"Only ye who know the true name of their ruler may pass unmolested!"}
Gecktar Tuesday February 27th, 2007 3:25:14 AM
Gecktar stops immediately whenthe eyes begin to glow, ready to face some threat. He listen to the obscure words of the statues but didn't understand anything.
"They don't seems welcoming me." he says to the other Chosen "Did anyone of you understand what it said ?"
Gecktar don't move closer waiting for other Chosen to explain him what was said. He still keeps his hammer in his hand ready to face a fight.
Winterglade Tuesday February 27th, 2007 9:14:55 AM
"How strange. Winterglade doesn't speak this language, but he doesn't think it's <make yourself at home> either."
Flat-top & Toros Tuesday February 27th, 2007 9:35:23 AM
Flat-top has heard the voice, "What's? That?" ask the center. Then look at Toros (who is some what glassy eyed!
"Yes! I understand!" Replies Toros, "It's Old Weimic, But I understand! It Said 'Only ye who knows the true name of their ruler may pass unmolested' and I cannot tell if it's a male or a female voice."
Moshushi Tuesday February 27th, 2007 11:29:31 AM
"Curious. the statues don't seem to mind the bear. Or perhaps he knows the true name of his ruler? I would suspect 'Motina' is the answer it seeks, but wonder if that is her true name..."
Zeoll Tuesday February 27th, 2007 11:51:11 AM
Zeoll comes up from behind. He reports that his elemental friend found chambers in the structure, but no entrance from the top.
When he hears what the statues said, he agrees with Mosushi. "Yourr memorry is good, my frreind! Do you want to speak the name to the guardians? If not, I will do it."
"Oh, and if you want to state herr full name, maybe it would be betterr to say, 'Herr Majesty the Veiled Queen, Motina, prriestess of the Sunsetterr Clan, beloved of Lachaerra, and wielderr of the Black Sworrd.' "
"Of course, it would be best to say that in wemic, in which case it would sound like this:
Her Majesty the Veiled Queen, Motina, priestess of the Sunsetter Clan, beloved of Lachaera, and wielder of the Black Sword.
Brahmah, Helm of Languages Tuesday February 27th, 2007 1:35:50 PM
Seeing the sudden reaction to the booming voice, Brahmah scratches his head for a moment, then, as if a lantern going on above his head, he touches a nearby Chosen, a wemic. He should hear the voice clearly.
"Oh dear." He looks at Zeoll.
"All the wemics please enter first. As well as those who can speak it."
"I, unfortunately, maybe able to understand things using this helm, it does not impart the ability to speak it." It seems clear, that unless a way can be found, he's not entering. He suggests that if he tries, or that anyone else tries, to say her name in Tauric (for those who can't speak Wemic), it might be exceptable to the stone guardian.
"Be ready with the healing. Step away. I'm trying something." He steps forward after the wemic have entered, says, in Tauric. "Her Majesty the Veiled Queen, Motina, priestess of the Sunsetter Clan, beloved of Lachaera, and wielder of the Black Sword." He hopes the experiment a success.

Whew! - DM Donna Wednesday February 28th, 2007 1:05:28 AM
When Zeoll makes his announcement out loud, the eyes of the two guardian statues flare up even brighter...and then the magic light in them fades.
Gecktar is still about fifty feet or so from the door--but all is now silent except for the occasional call of a jungle creature.
Zeoll Wednesday February 28th, 2007 5:57:17 AM
"I think we can go past now," says Zeoll.
Winterglade Wednesday February 28th, 2007 6:58:30 AM
"Yes, but where to? Winterglade was hoping a door would open. Maybe we need to find the doorknob ourselves."
Toros and Flat-top Wednesday February 28th, 2007 8:06:03 AM
Toros advances to the centaniel guards, watching them, the passes them, then stands next to Zeoll, "See I's safe!"
Flat-top watches Toros actions, But not quite convinced, the centaur tell Toros, "The Captain said that I'm in the read! I'll be with you in a minute!" Flat-top will go last.
Moshushi Wednesday February 28th, 2007 10:55:39 AM
Moshushi joins Toros and Zeoll, hoping for the best.
Brahmah Wednesday February 28th, 2007 12:51:27 PM
"Um, no Toros, I prefer to enter first."
"Thank you Zeoll, you saved tails I think."
Zeoll Wednesday February 28th, 2007 3:09:25 PM
"Thanks, Brrahmah, but I just filled in the details. It was Moshushi who rrememberred herr name."
Gecktar Wednesday February 28th, 2007 3:12:04 PM
Gecktar waits for his captain because he asked to be the first coming close to the doors. He then follows him closely.

Suddenly (again)...! - DM Donna 3d6(5+2+2)=9 Thursday March 1st, 2007 2:18:30 AM
Toros passes Gecktar, approaching the the guardian statues. Just as he walks to the 25-foot (or so) around area directly in front of the door, the floor falls away beneath him!
Toros must roll a Reflex save versus DC25. A successful save means that Toros can leap away to safety (to the side or backwards.) Failing means that Toros will fall down a 30-foot-deep pit, taking 9hp damage.
Winterglade Thursday March 1st, 2007 3:09:14 AM
Winterglade walks up to the pit and looks into it (possibly at Toros). Then he turns to the rest of the party.
"See? What Winterglade told you just a moment before? Trap city. But does anyone ever listen to him and his mighty wisdom?"
If Toros is down there Winterglade will fetch some climbing ropes and assist others in helping him out.
Flat-top & Toros d20+11=29 d20+5=13 Thursday March 1st, 2007 5:05:28 AM
Toros Follows Gecthar, looking and listening! When he hears a faint 'click'! Toros jumps out of the way, rolling on the other side. He'll look intto the pit asking,"Gecthar!! Are you alright??".
Flat-top rushes to the Edge of the pit, stand beside Winterglade, Yells down to Gecthar "ARE YOU HURT?? CAN YOU GRAB WINTERGLADE ROPE?? OR ARE YOU TOO HURT TO MAKE IT BY YOURSELF??"
Zeoll Thursday March 1st, 2007 10:02:07 AM
"I sure wish we had good old Kale with us. Does anyone have any ability to find trraps? I surre don't."
Zeoll will help haul Gecktar out of the pit.
"We're lucky there were no poisoned spikes at the bottom of that one."
Gecktar Thursday March 1st, 2007 11:51:02 AM
Gecktar gently taps the shoulder of Toros. "I'm fine my friend, I was just behind you."
"And you are you OK ?"
He turns to Zeoll "You're right Zeoll, I think we had great need of him in this pyramid"
Brahmah d20+6=21 Thursday March 1st, 2007 12:55:33 PM
Shaking his head, the middle aged minotaur looks into the pit. "While your down there, think about the destruction you wrought upon this ancient structure with looking where you were going. Tread lightly." At that, he leans down, braces himself on a secure stone, grabbing the rope, and attempts to help Toros up. (lifting heavy load, dragging with assistance, 21 Str check, as an assist check)
"The bear is far lighter than most of us. He weights about 500 pounds, a third as much as us. A quarter of the centaurs weight."
"By Domi I wish Kale was here. Can anyone detect traps today? Hey, can we summon a creature to set off traps ahead of us?"
Moshushi Thursday March 1st, 2007 2:34:23 PM
"better than a creature." holds up a rock, and makes it float, then has it start skittering around on the floor (hand of the mage giving endless mage hand effect)
"it's small, but might set off some traps."
Narrow Escape...Wide Pit - DM Donna Friday March 2nd, 2007 3:06:06 AM
Seeing as how Toros rolled a 29 for his Reflex save, Toros did, indeed, jump clear just as the trap doors fell open.
Gecktar correctly pointed out that he had not advanced, but was well behind Toros when the trap was sprung, and so did not have to roll a Reflex save.
Flat-top, however, may need glasses and/or a hearing aid, as he is screaming at the top of his lungs into the thirty-foot-deep pit...at the bottom of which are the mummified remains of hundreds (if not thousands) of snakes. ;D
Nobody fell in and nobody got hurt...but there are two VERY interesting developments now:
1. The bas-relief doors seem to have transformed into real doors...apparently this is the way into the pyramid.
2. The double door are about fifteen feet or so wide...and the pit directly in front of them has a square opening that is about twenty-five feet on each side--so how can the party get INTO the pyramid with no floor in front of the door?
Winterglade Friday March 2nd, 2007 3:28:07 AM
"Bummer. Now what?"
"If we could get the doors open we could haul a tree log here to serve as a bridge. But Winterglade's magic has long worn off."
Flat-top & Toros Friday March 2nd, 2007 5:32:36 AM
Flat-top is looking down the pit, when he feel a tap on hid shoulder. He spins around and there standing there is Toros?? "Yiiips!" As he almost jumps out of his hide.
Toros tap the center on the shoulder, tell him "Flat-top! I'm a weimic! I can easely jump across this pit! Also How do we get to the DOORS??"
Flat-top look into the pit again, "Then Who Is That Down There?"
Moshushi Friday March 2nd, 2007 10:02:41 AM
Mosh will stop playing with the rock and try using mage hand on the ddor. I assume that the amount of force needed to lift a 5 lb object will not suffice to open the big stone door, but don't see it hurting.
"i could cast 'open' on it, but would have to wait until tomorrow. Or I can fling a monkey at the door to see if it will open it."
shrugs
Brahmah Friday March 2nd, 2007 10:59:01 AM
(how do the doors open?)
The minotaur looks at the doors. "Can't catch a break!" He scratches his head. "Maybe we can build a platform using some of these loose stones or some dead trees. Or we can kill many lizard beasts and fill the hole then walk across?"
"Lets build a platform without killing trees."
"I remember watching a sailor friend use a globe of force to board another ship. Walked straight across."
Zeoll Friday March 2nd, 2007 1:20:06 PM
"Why can't we climb down, walk acrross the bottom of the pit, then climb back up and out? Who has some skill at climbing?"
"I used up both my second level spells, but tomorrrow I could have two spiderr climbs."
OOC: Donna, today we walked into mountains, crossed the rope bridge, fought the dinosaurs, came here, climbed up, then back to here. What time is it? Maybe we *should* think about camping for the night?
OOC: What's the DC to climb down the pit and then back up on the other side?
DM OOC Saturday March 3rd, 2007 1:41:48 AM
Well...the trip up into the mountains took a few days (almost a week.) Thought I wrote that.
The chasm crossing and the t-rex encounter were all in the same day...but I must concede that climbing up and around the ziggurat likely took a lot of time, so it is most logical that it is nearing dusk and time to make camp.
The pit has smooth, vertical walls, and was constructed to keep whatever fell into it inside. It is easily DC35 to try to safely scale the walls.
Flat -top and Toros <Ceil> Saturday March 3rd, 2007 7:44:03 AM
Flat-top rubs his chest (Not thinking that he has a tattoo of light), So he light up, "OOOPS! But I'm hungry! I need a snack!"
Toros looking at the doors, then into the pit, "Oh! How I wish I had a fly spell or Mage Hamd! Oh Well! nice to wish But Now to action! Come on Flat-top let's go finf some dead trees."
Both Toros and Flat-top (all Lith up) goes to find log or trees, Like Brahmah want then to do.
Brahmah Saturday March 3rd, 2007 10:59:43 AM
"Turn off the light Flat-top, would you want Vargas to see us through the trees? There is still light enough for foraging."
Winterglade Sunday March 4th, 2007 3:37:13 AM
"Maybe instead of climbing to the door we can ascend the pyramid until we are directly over it and lower somebody to try to open it? We have the climbing ropes..."
Flat-top and Toros <Ceil> Sunday March 4th, 2007 8:30:58 AM
Flat-top answers the Captain, "OK! (rubbing the Tattoo again) I can't even scratch an itch!".
Toros turns to Winterglade, "You know Glade! I wisk I could Have thought of that! That's the Perfick answer!! Let some body down from above, unlock the door if we have to, Open the doors. Every body can be let down by ropes. WE'LL BE IN IN NO TIME! I like it!"
Brahmah Sunday March 4th, 2007 2:46:11 PM
"Wind walk might work too. Or levitate."
Making Plans - DM Donna Monday March 5th, 2007 1:07:31 AM
Heyoo is still sitting to one side of the yawning pit, happily munching on the berries.
The doors have handles, and the doors appear to be hinged so that they must swing into the building (away from the pit.)
If anyone is going to climb above and rappel down to the door, they must be proficient enough to roll a Climb check versus DC28.
The sun continues to get lower in the sky.
Zeoll Monday March 5th, 2007 5:02:56 AM
Zeoll once again votes in favor of making camp. "In the morrning, I'll cast Spiderr Climb on someone who can go acrross with rropes."
"We DO have rropes that will bearr a Taurr, rright?"

Winterglade Monday March 5th, 2007 8:12:16 AM
Winterglade considers taking a morning run in these woods. Mental image: Winterglade running for his life, chased by a herd of megaraptors with napkins around their necks.
"Eh, camping or not, Winterglade is stuck with whatever power he's got left, which is not much. We might as well camp."
Moshushi Monday March 5th, 2007 10:27:29 AM
"maybe we can combine ideas? Lower one of us down to open the door, then put a log across. I think walking acros a log sounds easier than climbing, particularly with a rope across."
How high up are we? Is it a big chre to haul up a log?
Brahmah Monday March 5th, 2007 2:58:33 PM
"There also might be an entrance in the pit. A secret door. Does anyone have a Reduce spell that might be able to shrink the door or maybe a rock to mud to fill the pit?"
Brahmah takes a look around, aparently trying to figure something out. (Looking for running space.) (25 ft from the edge of the pit to the door (which has no sill?) What is the minimum necessary distance required for a flying tackle of the door from nearly 25 feet away... 25 foot long jump, requires a DC 25, at least 20 feet start space, if there is no running start DC doubles to 50) Is there at least 20ft straight line to the door? Is it sloped?
Jack Monday March 5th, 2007 5:56:40 PM
"Maybe we can jump it?" Jack looks around at his group members...."Maybe?"
Making Plans Again - DM Donna Tuesday March 6th, 2007 1:29:24 AM
Brahmah's brain turns over the possibilities:
There is, indeed, at least 50 feet between where the short corridor ends and that pit begins.
The doorway doesn't have a sill that extends appreciably beyond the front plane of the doors.
The flying tackle idea might work--but there is practically nothing to hang onto unless the doors are opened...which can't be done unless you go up to the doors...which can't be done unless you can breech that pit...which is proving mighty hard to do with the materials at hand.
So far.
Please state who will be on which of the four watches during the night hours when the party camps.
Winterglade Tuesday March 6th, 2007 3:56:02 AM
"Winterglade will let his mind wander during the first watch. He can watch over you during the rest of the night."

"I don't think this spell would allow one to carry other on his back..."
"But if it could be of any help..."
Gecktar is still thinking when he says "STOP ! I realise that I have a spell that would help to shape the stone as we need. Let me shape a bridge on this pit"
Gecktar kneels near the pit and put his hand on the stone muttering strange words. As he recites his prayer a bridge of stone is crossing the pit.
After finished Gecktar stands up and look at his work.
(OOC casting stone shape to create a bridge of stone over the pit.)

A Bridge At Last - DM Donna Wednesday March 7th, 2007 1:32:34 AM
Gecktar's thinking creates a fixed stone plane that spans the pit! Hooray!
(DM OOC: in case it hasn't been explained before (slap me if I'm presuming): the Woldian night is twelve hours long, and there are four watches during the night so that no one PC has to intrude on their sleep for more than three hours at a time, hence there are four watches during the night: first (early evening), second (late evening), third (late night) and fourth (early morning.) Plan accordingly and let me know if you want to do anything special during your PC's watch and/or down time.)
Winterglade Wednesday March 7th, 2007 3:39:39 AM
Winterglade stands still, his arms folded on his chest, gazing at stars. This is how he spends most of the night (aside from his watch). He just wishes the pyramid wouldn't obstruct half of the night sky.

"Lets camp in the tunnel and go no further than about 20 feet. Sleep in tight quarters for the night."
In the morning Brahmah prepares spells.
Prepared Spells: Alarm x2, Protection from Energy earth
In the morning, after everyone has entered the building, he will cast Alarm using his Rod of Lesser Extend to double duration, centered on the passage in which they entered. He will set it for a mental alarm. (Is duration based on caster level or ranger level for rangers? On total ranger level right? If so, with the Rod, the duration is 18 hours.)
Zeoll Wednesday March 7th, 2007 4:33:58 PM
Zeoll is happy to see the bridge form. "Good work Gecktarr!" he says.
"A nimble perrson should go overr firrst with a rrope. If that can be affixed to the farr side, it will act as a "rrailing" forr the otherrs."
"Also, maybe we should open the doorr beforre we ALL trry to crross!"
The party's lack of a dedicated rogue is increasingly troubling to Zeoll, by the way, and as he tells anyone who seems to chare this concern.

Jack takes his watch with Moshushi and while the little one is in his spell book Jack sits and looks around as to make sure not a thing happens to his group of brothers.
Morning at Last - DM Donna d20=12 d20=16 d20=3 d20=4 Thursday March 8th, 2007 1:43:37 AM
The night goes by without a visit from Sharp Tooth (at least Flat-top's singing seems to be good for something. ;D)...and morning dawns clear and bright with the telltale sounds of jungle creatures chittering and Heyoo getting a head start on the berries that are still in the area.
Everyone is rested and refreshed, and anyone who wanted to replenish their spells has done so.
The bridge and the double doors await.
Winterglade Thursday March 8th, 2007 3:13:07 AM
Winterglade gives the door a dirty look.
"If that" - he points to the pit - "was an entrée, then Winterglade has lost his appetite for the main course."
The centaur gets ready to enter the structure. He will walk some 20 ft behind the one taking point.
Gecktar Thursday March 8th, 2007 3:43:11 AM
After eating a little meal, Gecktar prepares himself and come close from the door. He stops side by side of Glade.
"Let see what awaits us inside..." he tells to Glade
The to all Chosen "Who volunters to open the doors ?"
Flat-top and Toros Thursday March 8th, 2007 6:55:46 AM
Flat-top tell Toros "You go first! I'll follow you!"
Toros tell the centaur, "No! you go First! Your the Fighter!"
Flat-top replies wit a strong hint hot steam, "NO! You go first, the Captain told ME to protect the REAR!"
Toros starting to raise his voice, "Alright! You Sissy Hoof! I'll Go First! Then Toros start to cross the stone bridge.
Brahmah d20+4=16 d20+13=21 d20+14=27 Thursday March 8th, 2007 9:41:51 AM
"Flat-top, I only told you to take the rear so no one has to slip on road apples!" The taur laughs. "Anyway, I'll get the door.... stand back."
Is there any clear hint from the stories about what sorts of traps or divertions, or whatever, that lay ahead of intruders?
"Prepare healing." He ties a rope to his waist and hands one end to whoever takes it. "Wrap around a secure stone or something and hold on." He moves to open the doors. (Search 16, Spot 21, Survival 27 base roll, +2 to avoid 'natural' hazards such a wrong footfall etc.) Brahmah plays with the idea of casting Protection earth on himself but doesn't. "Yeah Zeoll, Kale would be a nice return to this group."
Prepared Spells: Alarm x2, Protection from Energy earth
(Thanks Cayzle, I thought it was another simantics thing. I've been off my game lately.)
Zeoll d20+2=10 Thursday March 8th, 2007 9:57:00 AM
Zeoll is glad to see Flat-top and Brahmah take the lead with the door. He helps secure the ropes as best he can (Aid Another gives a +2 on Rope Use, barely). And he braces himself in case anyone falls.
Jack Thursday March 8th, 2007 4:44:54 PM
Jack wait till its his turn
Moshushi Thursday March 8th, 2007 6:06:23 PM
Mosh is a big fan of watching people open doors from a nearby location. He'll practice making an everburning torch fly nearby (hand of the mage), in case anyone would like a bouncing light to go ahead of the group.
Mosly just watching and waiting.
This Way In - DM Donna Friday March 9th, 2007 1:36:39 AM
The group arranges itself and starts forward with Brahmah leading the way. Zeoll can find nothing for him to tie the rope to except himself. As soon as the party is within fifty feet of the door, the bipedal female wemic-inspired figures roar out their challenge once more.
Since it worked last time, the party responds with their same answer (thanks to Zeoll's phrasing.) The guardians to either side of the doors subside and Brahmah very carefully crosses the bridge and goes up to the doors, which remain very real and very shut...but only because he is busy Searching and Spotting.
Nothing unusual comes to light, however. Brahmah must make a Strength check vs DC15 to open the doors.
Upon opening the doors, the two stone portals swing into a twenty-foot wide corridor that goes about thirty feet forward before turning to the left (or west on a map.)
It's dark inside. And dusty.
Winterglade Friday March 9th, 2007 5:41:07 AM
"Dusty" - comes Winterglade's voice from behind - "Check for footprints and let's continue on."
Flat-top and Toros<Ceil> d20+5=19 d20+5=18 d20+6=18 d20+6=8 Friday March 9th, 2007 7:19:09 AM
Toros who is ahead of Flat-top, enters first, It's dark in here, and dusty. I cannot see a thing!"
Flat-top enters behind Toros, rob his chest, this time is for the light Tattoo, "I hope this will help?"
Toros answers "Yes! Thank-You!"
Toros will listen (19) and with the light he'll try to spot (18) for anything Odd.
Flat-top will do more or less the same thing, He listens at (18) and will try to Spot (8) on the ground (He see nothing but road apples!)
Moshushi d20=7 Friday March 9th, 2007 10:38:40 AM
Moshushi sends his torch floating up front, but doesn't bother psuhing to the front. I'm guessing he's too far back in thegroup to spot, so he'll just listen (13) to the sounds of taurs walking into a cave.
Brahmah (Helm of Languages, Alarm at door) d20+6=20 d20+6=15 Friday March 9th, 2007 11:17:50 AM
Str 20
The minotaur looks at the floor. "Did anyone think about preparing Pass without Trace!"
He closes the door. (Str 15) It gets caught about half way swining it back but he shoves once more and it clangs shut. "No one pass this point until we have to leave." He casts Alarm at a point where opening the door will set off the Alarm spell. He uses the Lesser Rod of Extend. The Alarm is set for a mental alert, not audible.
"Watch where you step. Moshushi, keep that torch in front of the group. Flat-top, light up our rear so we don't get a surprise. Anyone else with ideas, I'd like to hear'm."
Prepared Spells: Alarm x2*, Protection from Energy earth
Spells Active: Alarm (8 hour duration)
JAck Friday March 9th, 2007 6:21:50 PM
Jack stay in the mid section of the group ax out and ready for anything listening to his leader and moving on the way
Zeoll chuckles as the two stone doors swing open. "My frriends, I have hearrd about situations like this beforre, but neverr in my adventurring days have I been on one of these ... how they say ... dungeon crrawls!"
"Well I forr one do not feel verry safe crrossing this new-made brridge without rrailings!" The liontaur casts his Spider Climb spell on himself so that he can walk with more confidence.
Once over the bridge and through the doors, Zeoll walks on the wall and then onto the ceiling. "I feel much morre securre walking up herre!" he declares.
He keeps a sharp eye open, hoping to see any danger before it surprised the group: Spot check 24.
