Battle in the Culverwood

DM Kathy
Tuesday March 6th, 2007 12:01:47 AM

Lily continues to circle, trying to get behind her opponents. Arminas continues moving away, putting some distance between himself and the clearing.

Bralin, Florin, Lorth, and Ajax stand ready to enter battle, when it comes.

Harvest begins working her way toward the clearing, and Any moves to cover her.

Before Harvest quite reaches the camp, however, a group of people and animals come into sight, striding purposefully toward your position. In the front of the group are a human man and a half-orc man. Between them are a wolf and a boar. A few paces behind them comes the "dragon lady," a humanoid female with wings and green scales.

Anyone who makes a DC 18 Spot check, Highlight to display spoiler: {you see another human man making his way stealthily toward you, taking cover behind a tree at S-4 on the map.}

Anyone who makes a DC 23 Spot check, Highlight to display spoiler: {you see a half-elf man making his way stealthily toward you, skirting a tree (just beyond A-2 on the map). }

Anyone who makes a DC 40 Spot check, Highlight to display spoiler: {you see a baboon in the tree at R-1. Baboons aren't really native to this climate.}

Lorth uses this lull before the battle to cast a spell (Protection from evil) upon himself. Quietly he asks Gargul to support him in this coming fight.

"Declare yourselves," Harvest Moon calls out to the advancing group.

"Beware of the man approaching in stealth. He is now behind a tree," she whispers through the Message link and describes a position at S-4 on the map.

"Why have you sent a party to attack the elfish town?"

There is also a half-elfis one coming around another tree. She speaks of a place just beyond A-2 on the map.

Nothing more to do. It's hell being a pacificst.

OOC spot and listen checks natural 20! do I see or hear everyone, even though I don't make the DC?

Any easily sees the half-elf, and human that Harvest has spotted. He also gets the impression of something in the trees.

This group evidently knew we were coming. Perhaps they had wards out.

He begins to hum softly to himself, summoning his magic for what looks to be the coming battle, but none have attacked yet, and he will not be the first to strike a blow. Harvest has put herself in danger to sue for peace. Any will not break that peace and put her in greater danger, but he is ready if they start the dance.

Florin is ready for the fight when it comes and awaits actions to be made. He looks to Ajax once and uses his mental link with his war horse to tell him to be ready. He keeps his eyes open for anything and notices the one human moving but nothing else, he hears less then that though and shrugs it off as his helmet interfering.

Gearing up for combat, Lorth casts Protection from Evil. Bralin and Davros re-position themselves.

Harvest warns her companions of the two stealthy foes approaching, and calls out a challenge.

Florin, Lily, Arminas, and Any hold themselves ready for action.

[On the natural 20s: by the official rules, a natural 20 on a skill check isn't an automatic success. By Woldian house rules, a natural 20 on a skill check gives some limited success. I'm going to rule that if you rolled a nat 20 on your Spot, you have a persistent feeling that there is another opponent out there someplace, but you're not sure who or where.]

Your opponents respond. The half-elf steps foward, chanting, and extends his arm toward the party. The plants begin moving, twisting, trying to entangle the group in an area centered on the paladin's warhorse. Any, Davros, Bralin, Lorth, Florin, and Ajax, make a Reflex save (DC 12) or become entangled.

"I sent a party to attack the town," the dragon-woman replies, "because I knew it would please my master. As will your deaths!" With that, she makes a few magical passes, and launches a fireball, centered at square H-16. Any, Davros, Bralin, Florin, and Ajax take 18 points of damage. [Reflex save 18 for half. Note that if you are entangled, you have a penalty to your Dexterity.]

The human fighter and the half-orc each move up near the edge of the entangle. Each takes a shot at Bralin. Both miss.

The wolf advances on Harvest and tries to bite her but misses. The boar charges, and likewise misses.

The other human steps from behind his tree. "I see you," he says to Lily, and fires his crossbow, plinking the halfling for a point of damage.

The grass around Any's feet begins to writhe and grasp. He dives forward out of the affected area, and the dive and roll take him both out of danger from the plants, and away from a huge explosion of a fireball (Reflex save 30 and 26. +4 cat's grace, dive to L-11 tumble 23). He is singed a little, but not as bad as it might have been.

He now begins to sing as battle has begun. The time for stealth is over. His bow is dropped, and his sword and dagger quickly take their place. He looks for the closest target and almost stumbles into the nearby human (spot 13). He takes a step forward, and attacks (move to L-10 and attack h-0). His voice rings in the grove, encouraging his friends to fight with skill.

"Your master's wishes count for naught.

Harvest Moon narrows her eyes. That and a slight shake of her head is her comment on those who would refuse peaceful resolution for the ways of violent dominion. She steps backward with a scowl for the two animals. Angry words come close to escaping her lips, but the wisdom of Alemi provides calm.

With a flick of her wrist the scroll unfurls from the hand within her sleeve. She reads. And she grows.

Now towering above all others, Harvest allows the length of her chain to roll through her hands, her reach now greatly magnified.

Despite his platemail and general lack of mobility (Dexterity?), the dwarf somehow manages to dance away from both the grasping plants and the brunt of the fireball's spell.

Now he must move to the enemy. Loosing his axe, the warrior drives forward through the spell effect. His shield is raised high as he moves to engage the bow weilding half-orc.

Lorth is held fast by the entangling plants. He tries to cast a spell, but cannot keep his mind focused on it.

Any manages to avoid the entangling plants and dodge the worst of the fireball. He moves out of the Entangle, and begins to sing. [Even if you save, you move at half-speed through an Entangle, so L-11 is about as far as you can move. Beginning a bardic song is a standard action, so that's the end of your turn.]

Arminas uses a scroll to cast another Entangle, this one centered on his opponents.

Harvest pulls out a scroll and casts a spell. She becomes Large! She pulls out her spiked chain.

Bralin manages to avoid grasping plants and scorching fire. He slogs forward through the Entangle, winding up directly in front of the half-orc. [You move at half-speed through an Entangle, so that's a double move.]

Lily fires a shot, hitting the human, before moving behind the tree. She is now Squeezed.

Davros also avoids the plants and dodges the worst of the fireball. He steps out of the Entangle and counters with a spell of his own. Unfortunately, the ray flies wide of its target.

[Note to those with Protection from evil: the half-elf and the critters are the only ones to whom the protection does not apply.]

The half-orc manages to avoid the grasping plants of Arminas's spell. He lets out a raging battle cry, seeming to become tougher and stronger in the blink of an eye. He moves out of the Entangle (provoking Attacks of Opportunity from Bralin and Harvest), dropping his bow and drawing a greataxe as he moves. He ignores the heavily-armored dwarf and takes a swing at Any, but misses.

The human fighter is caught by the entangling plants, but doesn't seem bothered by it. He, too, drops his bow and draws his melee weapon--in his case, a guisarme. He swings it at Harvest, but misses.

The smaller, nimbler human moves away from his tree and closer to the fray, but he turns to take another shot at Lily. This time he misses.

The wolf is stuck in the entangle, but its foe is right in front of it. It bites at Harvest, but can't penetrate the Monk's many protections. The boar is also stuck, and also tries to attack, but makes a very poor showing indeed.

The half-elf is completely unfazed by the Entangle, and moves out of it to take a shot at Davros. He hits the wizard for 3 points damage.

The dragon-sorceress also manages to avoid the grasping plants. She casts another spell--another fireball, this one centered at G-16. Ka-BOOM! Davros, Florin, Lorth, and Ajax take 34 points damage (Reflex save 18 for half). Her spell unleashed, the woman begins heading for the edge of the Entangling plants.

From out of nowhere, a very large wolf appears, right near Lily's position! The halfling is trying to hide, but the wolf catches her scent and moves over to bite her. Its jaws snap over air where the nimble halfling used to be, and the creature growls in frustration.

When the wolf appears, you all notice that there is a baboon, perched comfortably in the tree at R-1, waving its paws as though casting a spell of some kind.

Florin is able to keep from getting stuck in the entangle spell but takes the full blast of the fireball spell. Florin will move in to help with the nearest enemy. (Forgot to look at map so just move him towards the nearest enemy please.)

The raging Half-Orc begins to move. Quick as a whip, Harvest Moon snakes her chain out and catches the miscreant's foot and tripping it to the ground *BEFORE* it can move out of the entangling area. (Note: AoO's are resolved before the actions that trigger them.) Then, with an extra deft flick of the wrist, the chain smacks the prone half orc, raising bruises, but otherwise leaving its skin unbroken, bones intact.

Would that the Paladins were free of this spell of entanglement.

"Davros Sapphiredge! Are you hale?" Harvest whispers over the Message Link as fire blooms around the wizard. "Arminas Calaelen, There is one behind this tree that harries Davros Sapphiredge, and he is the only one who might possibly free us from the Entanglement."

"I will tend to the dragon woman and the ape. It may be possible to prevent them from casting more spells. At least for a while."

With that, the giant girl moves. Faster than anything of that size should have the right to move, without regard to the creatures who strike at her, and with an inexplicable disregard to the magically animated plants that attempt to grasp her, Harvest moves. Taking a place from which she might strike at will, the Dragon Woman, the Ape, the Dire Wolf, or the crossbow wielding Human, she takes to her breast the song sung by her Anthos.

Her chain sings out, tripping the Dragon Woman to the ground. Again comes the deft flick of her wrist, and the chain delivers a potentially critical beating.

"Lily! Make your way here. Behind me you may be protected."

Another fireball! These enemies seem to have a more purposeful attack than the attack on the town. Davros tries to roll with this blast as well, knowing intimately the timing of the blast when it reaches the target. (reflex=11 ,24 - used first hero point!) Barely escaping a flaming doom, Davros stands up from his rolling dodge and looks around to catch his bearings. As he does so, he catches an arrow in his side. With a puzzled look on his face, he drops to the ground in a crumpled heap, oblivious to the Wold around him.

"So this is what death feels like. So many times before have I sent enemies to this place, and now it would seem as though it is my own time. The other students at the school often pondered the mysteries of death, and now I will experience the knowledge first hand.

As Davros falls into unconsciousness, his mind asks more questions all at once than he would have ever thought possible. Shortly thereafter, a rat with tinged fur emerges from a fold in his cloak and stands on top of him almost protectively. He waves a small paw in the air as if in defiance. If you look closely, you are almost fooled into believing that you can see a tear in Whisker's eye.

(OOC:Kathy, would it be possible for Florin to and Ajax to of moved last round? When I first started my post there was no DM post but my post took longer then I expected. If not then cool. I'll post for if you allow him and Ajax to move and also for if you don't.)

(If allowed to move)
Florin and Ajax will move to try and help cover Lily. (I think the nimble archer is still to far away to attack, unsure.(

(If not allow to move, Florin will also be back at 47 hitpoints if allowed to move inless he would still be in fireball range and Ajax would still be around inless too.)
Florin is able to keep from being entangled again this round and is able to avoid most of the fireball damage. Abit more upset then before he moves still to try and help Lily as the very large wolf and archer are attacking her.

Revisions to last round:

The half-orc was tripped before he could move, and therefore only made a feeble swing at Bralin.

Florin and Ajax moved forward a little, but still took the brunt of the fireball. [OOC: that's going to be the best I can do. Otherwise, the fireball would have been cast in a different spot, and different people would have to make saves, and we'd basically be re-playing the round.]

This round:

Lily begins trying to climb the tree. She makes it about 10 feet off the ground. The wolf bites at her as she climbs, but the curve of the tree trunk gets in its way, and now she has climbed high enough to be out of its reach. [You were squeezed because you chose square T-6, which is mostly occupied by the tree. The dire wolf is not squeezed because it is standing next to the tree. I did give you cover from the wolf.]

Lorth tries to escape the grasping plants, but to no avail.[/b]

Any attacks the fallen half-orc, having to step forward to do so [you can change your mind about this if you want to]. He scores two hits, and draws some blood. The half-orc snarls at him.

Bralin likewise swings at the fallen half-orc, but does a lot more damage. The man howls in pain, blood pouring from his many wounds.

Harvest begins to move, faster than anybody ought to be able to move through the writhing, grasping plants. As she moves, her opponents try to bring her down, but none is good enough to hit her. She takes up a position among several foes, and swings her chain at the sorceress. She successfully trips the draconic creature, and follows up with a solid (but not critical) hit from the chain. [Does the chain have a 15-foot or 20-foot reach? I thought a Large spiked chain was only 15 feet.]

Arminas fires three arrows at the half-elf. The first misses, but the next two strike their target with firey accuracy.

Davros takes a fireball to the face and an arrow to the shoulder, and decides to lie down for a bit. [Let's hear it for hero points!]

Florin and Ajax move out of the entangle, toward Lily.

The half-orc is in pretty bad shape, but hatred glitters in his beady black eyes. Even prone, he manages to avoid the entanglin plants. He attacks from prone, swinging his greataxe at Any, whom he sees as the easier target. He connects once, for 18 points of damage. His follow-up swing misses badly.

The irony of the human fighter, stuck in the Entangle and holding a guisarme, is that he can't actually attack Bralin, who is standing right in front of him. He settles for going after Any, who has cover from the dwarf, but who at least is in range of his weapon. He tries to trip the bard, but misses him completely. He tries again, and this time makes contact with the hooked blade of the guisarme. One quick jerk, and Any is prone. The human follows up with a quick strike from his weapon, but misses.

The wolf and boar have joined Lorth in the "trying to get out of the entangle" club. The boar actually managed it this round; the wolf is still stuck.

The nimble human maneuvers closer to Harvest, ducking and dodging the chain as he comes. [Tumble 17] It takes all of his movement to get up to her, however.

The dire wolf snaps and snarls at Lily, who is safely out of its reach.

The half-elf fires three shots back at Arminas, and misses three times.

The sorceress begins casting a spell, moving carefully so as to avoid Harvest's chain [Concentration 24]. A ghostly green arrow shoots from her outstretched palm toward Harvest. [If a 21, hits your Touch AC, take 7 points of acid damage].

The baboon in the tree makes the smallest of movements, and a lightning bolt comes shooting from the clear blue sky, right at Harvest! Harvest takes 11 points of damage (Reflex save DC 16 for half).

Bralin nods in understanding. The enemy seek to eliminate the less armored Any, in hopes of ganging up on him after. There is a flaw to the plan, and the dwarf endeavors to point it out.

Bralin lets fly two blows, his axe tracing huge bloody arcs through the air and slamming into the prone half-orc with a "THWACK" that can be heard throughout the clearing.

The Grace of Cats and intuition born of Alemi's wisdom. Both are a boon to Harvest Moon as she dodges and evades both the Magic Arrow and the Bolt of Lightening. The luck of Heroes too smiles down upon her, but of such things, little she is aware.

"You should leave. NOW!" The giant girl looks down through the crest of hair overhanging her face, down at the man below. There is a frown upon her face. "I will not be able to warn you again, and it may mean your life."

She removes one hand from the chain and reaches behind to her magic haversack. It is her last scroll of this type.

"I will not be able to speak with you again after this. Be ready for the Baboon to come down from his tree. Anthos ... Please take care." Her final whispered words convey a tremor of worry. Then, with Heroic concentration, she reads from the scroll. (Cast Defensively Concentration 21.)

The giant brown girl points at a stone upon the ground before her and, like a soft falling curtain, the Silence Spell cuts off all sound. Harvest holds the Spiked Chain at ready, her Reflexes honed by Combat, set to strike at any who move.

[Note that all AoO's will likely be Trip attempts.]

Any reels from a strike by the fallen foe, as his axe strikes across his legs. Then he is tripped by the guisarme of the other warrior, but is able to roll away from the follow up strike. (roll to M-10) He sees Bralin's strike on the fallen half-orc, and hears the dwarf's instructions, and following them, he rises to seek a new opponent.

Seeing an opponent threatening Harvest, he steps closer to his target (N-10), and begins to sing a new song, this one dotted with words of power, and pointing at the human, he releases his spell of Hideous Laughter.

Once the spell is away, he does not wait to see its results, but will start to move towards that man.

Lorth makes another effort and wins free of the Entangle spell. [Breaking out is a full-round action, meaning you can't move afterward. You'll need to make a DC 12 Reflex save to keep from being Entangled again; then you can move.]

Bralin fatally wounds the half-orc with a single blow of his axe, then finishes him off with an even mightier blow. The half-orc is very dead.

Harvest avoids both acid arrow and lightning strike, and casts another spell from a scroll. An eerie silence falls over the battlefield where she is standing.

Arminas casts another Entangle, trying to tie up the sorceress and the baboon-druid. The spell will also require Reflex saves of Harvest and Lily.

Any scoots away without standing up, provoking an Attack of Opportunity from the human with the guisarme [per PHB page 142]. The man misses, and Any is able to stand without hinderance. [You can only crawl 5 feet, however, which puts you at M10. Crawling and standing are each move actions, so you don't have enough actions left to cast a spell this round.]

Lily tosses down some caltrops [contingent on making the Relfex save to avoid being entangled].

Davros continues to play dead.

Florin moves toward the Dire Wolf, but (presumably) decides to stay out of the entangling plants. There is one free square from which the Dire Wolf can be attacked, but Florin can't reach it with a single move. He gives the honor to Ajax, who, unfortunately, misses. [If you would have entered the Entangle let me know and I'll re-do that part].

The human fighter, deprived of targets, begins trying to get loose from the Entangle. He gives it a good effort, but can't quite break free.

The half-elf moves up to take a shot at Lorth, but misses.

The boar, having broken free last round, evades the grasping tendrils of the plants around it, and moves up to attack Bralin. It doesn't even come close to damaging the dwarf.

The wolf, still stuck, tries to pull free, but doesn't succeed.

The dire wolf is caught in the Entangle, but it has a foe close to hand. It turns its head to bite at Ajax. It sinks its teeth in for 11 points of damage to the valiant steed.

The nimble human manages to avoid being entangled, and seems unfazed by the Silence. He thrusts his rapier at Harvest, but it isn't much of a blow.

The half-dragon [who did manage not to get entangled last turn], avoids the entangling plants from one of the two spells, but is caught by the other. Hatred glitters in her black eyes as she looks at Harvest. She says something, lost in the Silence, but Harvest is pretty sure she makes out the word "foolish." The woman opens her mouth--and breathes.

A cone of greenish, acidic vapors rush out, enveloping Harvest and the unfortunate human behind her. Harvest takes 32 points of damage [Reflex save 15 for half]. Behind her, the human seems to somehow avoid the damage from the burst of acid.

Up in the tree, the baboon easily avoids being entangled. It makes another gesture, and another lightning bolt cracks down at Harvest! Harvest takes 14 points damage [Reflex save 16 for half].

Save vs Entangle 14 (previous round, so the caltrops stay in my pack)

The branches suddenly reach out to take hold of the halfling in the tree. Lily yelps in surprise, then screams in frustration. She attempts to writhe and slip through their fingers, but there really isn't anywhere to go. The branches hold her wrists and ankles, and others still warp towards her to hold her torso. Panic sweeps across the dainty face, as she yells, "Where in Moshe-Karr did this come from?! Domi pray it wasn't one of ours that did this to me. Harvest, get me outta this! I don't like being pinned."
Lily starts to panic as the tree branches hold her in place.

Looking around quickly, he also notices Lily is caught up by the plants.

Too bad, I will have to inform her of my tactics before the next battle.

Well, the baboon druid must be stopped. With an arrow nocked, Arminas speaks the magical command and the arrow starts to burn. He does glance to the other as he ponders things and speaks quickly to his trusty friend, "Whoa Ajax, your wounds are getting critical my friend and rather then see you die here, even if for the day I would like you to go back to your place. God speed my friend."

Florin calls out, "I will try and kill this large wolf over here and then holler if you need help and I'll give aid." Florin tries to keep track of his own wounds and realizes he really needs to buy some csw potions or something later.

Harvest eludes acid and lightning, and lashes out with her chain. She draws blood from the baboon in the tree.

Lily is able to twist around and nimbly avoid the entangling tree. [The Reflex save DC was 11; you're fine. The caltrops are on the ground, and you can do something else now, if you like.]

Lorth avoids the tangling plants and moves to Davros's side. Moving through the Entangle is difficult, however, and he doesn't quite have enough time to heal the wizard. [Movement is at half-speed through the Entangle; so it took a double move to get to F-13].

Davros, encouraged by the paladin's presence, drinks a healing potion and stands up.

Bralin brings his axe down on the human fighter and draws blood. His second blow, however, clangs off the man's breastplate.

Any casts a spell at the nimble human, stepping a little closer to do so.

Arminas fires three shots at the baboon in the tree, two of which hit in little puffs of flame.

Florin dismisses Ajax, who vanishes back to the Celestial Realm.

The baboon tucks its chin down and seems to--melt, somehow. It re-forms into the figure of a human woman, looking a little like Harvest with brown hair and eyes. She is badly wounded, and clinging to the tree for all she's worth.

The human fighter makes yet another effort to pull free of the Entangle, but fails.

The nimble human doesn't seem to find Any's joke especially funny. Or perhaps, being in the Silence, he didn't hear it. [Sorry, I'll mark it on the map.] He eludes the grasping plants and stabs at Harvest, just barely missing.

The boar again attacks Bralin, and just misses the dwarf. The wolf tries to break free, but fails.

The dragon sorceress also attempts to break free, but fails.

The half-elf takes a step forward and fires three arrows at Davros. Only the first and third hit, but they do 11 points of damage.

Purely reflex. The movement from the Dire Wolf catches at the corner of Harvest Moon's eye and with a flick of her wrist the spiked chain catches the beast at the back of the skull, raising a bruise that starts the creature down a path towards unconsciousness.

A flare of sympathy bursts within her breast as the baboon becomes a girl, much like herself. A flurry of fire speaks to the presence of Arminas Calaelen, and Harvest forcibly reminds herself of the lesson learned back at the Windtree. If one suffers Evil to live, one becomes responsible for a life of Evil. The hard cruelty of the fact strikes Harvest Moon like a physical slap in the face. Her face flushes red with blood and she stamps her giant foot.

WHY DO YOU PERSIST!!!??? Her mouth shouts down at the man at her side, cutting at her with his blade. Harvest Moon brings her elbow around to catch the side of his head, a Stunning Blow to bring stars to the eyes and make one consider the errors of a Evil ways.

Lily flings a couple of javelins at the big wolf, but doesn't manage to hit it. [If you stay in the tree, you'll need to make that DC 11 Reflex save each round.]

Bralin clobbers the human again.

Any plunges into the entangling growth but manages to avoid the plants. He moves to flank the nimble-looking human, and strikes him with a solid blow.

Harvest, too, rounds on the human, fetching him a ringing blow on the side of his head. The man drops his rapier and stands motionless.

Lorth heals Davros who uses his new lease on life to fire Magic Missiles at the half-elf.

Florin hits the dire wolf twice. The creature is now bleeding from several wounds.

The woman in the tree (who used to be a baboon) begins shifting again. Her face seems to stretch and shrink at the same time, her arms fold back against her body, her legs shorten. Where a woman had clung to the tree, an eagle now perches. It stretches its wings and flies skyward.

The sorceress tries again to escape the Entangle, and fails. The human fighter likewise tries and fails. The wolf tries, and succeeds.

The boar is concentrating so hard on goring Bralin that it forgets about the plants. It is entangled again.

The half-elf lets out a snarl and sends three more arrows flying toward Davros. Only the first two hit, for a total of 9 damage.

The dire wolf sinks its teeth into Florin for 16 points damage. It sets its feet and yanks backward, pulling the paladin off his feet [Trip check 23]. Then it disappears.

Lily evades the grasping tendrils of the tree, and leaps out of the tree. In a display of grace and beauty she lands on her feet with another javelin drawn, only to have the very grasses attempt to hold her. The halfling deftly avoids these too, and throws the javelin at h2. The shaft seems to wobble in the air, just as the other two did, and the javelin falls short.

He is the sun that banishes the dark clouds that ride Harvest Moon's thoughts. Her Anthos has come to her aid, and it is as if a fresh breeze blows through her mind, dispelling her anger.

From the corner of her eye the giant girl catches the druid's change to the form of a bird. It spreads its wings for flight, and reflexively, Harvest Moon reaches out with the chain to prevent it. The links of the giant chain sweep the bird from its perch before it can catch the wind, and evading the grasping plants, Harvest steps closer to prevent further attempts to flee.

I am sorry, she speaks within her mind, perhaps some day we will be friends. But today, I cannot allow you to escape.

Lily hops out of the tree and flings another javelin--with no more success than the first two. She begins cursing shoddy javelin-makers everywhere.

Lorth hits the half-elf, who is looking significantly wounded by this point.

Bralin calls for the human fighter's surrender, and begins concentrating on the boar. He hits the creature twice and it drops to the ground, dead.

Harvest attacked the bird as it fled, knocking it out of the sky and onto the ground. It lays there, unmoving.

Any pummels the nimble-looking human, who slumps to the ground.

Davros fires a ray of fire at the half-elf, who dodges aside.

Florin stands but finds no foes around him. He looks about him for anybody who might be injured.

The dragon sorcerer breaks free of the entangling plants.

The wolf, who broke free last round, begins moving toward the half-elf, whining anxiously.

The half-elf archer steps back 5 feet and fires again, once at Davros, and twice at Lorth. He hits the wizard for 8 damage, and hits the paladin for 5 damage.

The human fighter tries again to break free of the entangle, to no avail.

Last round adjustment:

Since Arminas couldn't have fired at the escaping eagle, he instead fired at the sorceress. Only his first shot hit, but it was a good one.

This round:

Arminas dismisses his two Entangle spells, making it easier for everyone to move around. The Entangle spell cast by the half-elf, however, is still active. [Dismissing a spell is a standard action. I happen to think that's kind of a rip-off, so I'm letting you dismiss both spells as a standard action. You can't attack this round, however.]

Lily moves up to Florin and heals a little of his damage with her wand.

Lorth steps up and swings twice at the half-elf, but is unable to connect with the nimble man.

Bralin swings twice at the human fighter, connecting both times. After the second blow, the man slumps to the ground.

Harvest swings her chain at the prone sorceress, but cannot penetrate her scales to do damage.

For the sake of his love, Any once again rushes in where angels fear to tread. He doesn't have to battle the entangle, and can therefore take a swing at the sorcerer, which connects. [You didn't need that Reflex save, so I applied the d20 roll to an attack insead. :) Roll damage next turn.]

Florin begins moving to Davros's side, but in his heavy armor, he can't quite get there.

Davros lies motionless on the ground.

The dragon sorcerer attempts to stand. As she does so, Harvest swings and this time scores a hit. The Parnothian stops and just stands there, swaying slightly. She wasn't holding anything, but it's clear she has been stunned. [If it matters, Any also gets an AoO].

The half-elf looks fearfully from Lorth to the dragon sorcerer. Seeing that the woman appears stunned and out of the battle, the half-elf flings down his bow and holds up his hands in surrender. In a sharp tone, he calls off the wolf, who had been advancing on Lorth.

He turns back to the half-elf, "Stay put with your wolf, while the dragon lady is dealt with."
Lorth continues to keep his sword at the ready guarding the man. He will not leave unless the rest of the party is in dire straits.

Any sees the draconian begin to sway on her feet, but he has also seen her shoot acid and cast spells. While she is awake she is a threat. He swings with the flat of his sword, seeking ot render her unconscious as he did the other fighter.

His sword strikes twice, the butt of his dagger sliding off her scales.

That should do it.

Almost at the same instance, Harvest trips her to the ground and follows with a blow.

Definietly should do it.

He looks up at his Lady love and smiles.

Thinking Florin also calls over to Lily, "Thanks for the healing Lily." He smiles over to her even if it's unable to be seen through the vizor of his helmet.

Lorth accepts the half-elf's surrender, and continues guarding the prisoner while the others mop up.

Florin steps up and heals Davros, who is now out of danger and no longer needing to make stabilization checks.

Lily tries to use the wand again, but cannot make it work.

Bralin strides away from his fallen foe in the direction of the sorceress.

Harvest uses her spiked chain to neatly yank the stunned half-dragon off her feet. Any follows up with a teeth-rattling blow from his rapier. The woman slumps sideways, unconcsious.

Apart from the half-elf, who has surrendered, your foes are either dead or unconscious. Up in the camp, the flurry of activity has died down.

Time for a breath, and Harvest Moon uses it to heave a sigh of relief as the dangerous dragon woman finally slumps into the grass. Her silent breath blows at her overhanging crest of hair, puffing fine strands upward and out of her eyes. Harvest raises a hand in order to screen from her vision both her hair as well as the sunlight from above. From the rare perspective of her temporarily giant size, she spies Lily Trufflefinder tending to their fallen wizard. It is good to see that she too carries Alemi's gift, to heal with magic.

Before the spell ends, and returns her to a common everyday height, the brown girl turns her eyes toward the camp in hopes of catching a glimpse of who might be therein and whether they might be further inclined toward violent opposition.

Bralin (AC 24/25 evil, hp 67/76, Prot v Evil)
Monday March 19th, 2007 11:13:59 AM

The dragon lady goes down. Bralin doesn't even look down as he trots by.

"Yon warrior with guisarme may yet live," he calls back to the group.

Heading into the camp, the dwarf calls for the ranger.
"Arminas, your bow."

Indicating a spot some distance from the entrance to one of the tents, Bralin waits for Arminas to get into position. He the throws open the tent flap, stepping to the side to allow the archer a clear field of fire.

If nothing happens, he sticks his head into the tent, verifying its not occupied. He does not bother searching the tent.

Time permitting, Bralin repeats the procedure with the rest of the tents.

Arminas circles around the camp, looking for others who may be hiding. Looking up at Ewan, he can see that she has resumed flying in lazy circles around the clearing.

He signals to her, and tries to communicate:
Look for enemies.

Looking into the clearing cut so violently from the Culverwood he shakes his head. Touching a tree, he quietly says:

"I am sorry, we will find who is responsible. May their blood provide nutrients to help you heal."

Arminas is shaken from his thoughts by the yell of the dwarf. Time still for action. He quickly moves to the position that Bralin points to. If an enemy is within, he shoots arrows into the tent.

It is good to see your okay. If you like I can see to those arrows." Florin lets his offer stand and if agreed then he will do his best to gently remove the arrows and use his healing kit to help numb the area and such so it will hurt less.

Florin figures for the time being his injuries remaining can be taken care of later as his friends are his first concern. Florin does speak mainly to himself as he does this, "Next time we need to spread out abit more, two fireballs are abit hard on the armor and body."

You are able to tie up your foes. The half-elf is, of course, still alive, as are the human druid and the half-dragon, who took at least some non-lethal damage. The half-orc is a goner. Whether the two other humans survive is going to depend on when you get around to healing them; how many rounds do you spend tying people up before the healing starts?

Told to look for enemies, Ewan swoops down to land near the bound, unconscious half-dragon, screeching triumphatly.

Bralin, meanwhile, opens the first tent-flap and finds--nothing. Nothing of interest, at any rate. There are some odd bits of clothing and bedding scattered about, but nothing else.

He moves on to the next tent and jerks the flap aside. Nothing.

The next tent--and inside, he finds the bound, gagged figure of a minotaur.

The Wold returns to big and tall as Harvest Moon shrinks back down to her five foot size. From her haversack, she unrolls a leather bound kit full of herbs, salves, bandages and such.

With all speed, she scurries from one fallen to the next, at times working at cross-purposes with Lily Trufflefinder as she attempts to bind them at the same time. Often, during the process, Harvest raises her head to gaze out toward the tents and check on how Anthos, Arminas Calaelen and Bralin Stoneminder are making out in their search for other attackers.

Tuesday March 20th, 2007 2:33:33 PM

The black platemailed dwarf cautiously enters the tent, trying to stay to one side so that Arminas can still fire into it if needs be.

After satisfying himself that it is otherwise unoccupied, he looses the gag and foot bindings of the minotaur. He does not loosen his hands.

"Forgive my caution," he tells the taur. "But I have been played false, and will not be betrayed again. Go out so yon paladins may verify your intent."

Bralin points toward the tent opening with his war axe.

Arminas (AC22 HP 39/39)

Arminas covers Bralin's entrance into the tent. Finally he is starting to see the advantage a bow gives. As the Minotaur comes out of the tent, he nods in the direction of Florin and Lorth.

Speaking to Bralin he says:

"It is plain to see that our enemy used the tactic we should have used, and we almost lost Davros as a result. Harvest means well, but she pursues peace beyond all reason. Clearly we were at the camp of the enemy. No words were needed. I would have killed them in their sleep if I had a chance."

Arminas wanders along with Bralin and adds:
"I wanted you to know my thoughts, you are our battle leader."

Upon seeing Ewan perched and screeching upon the dragon woman, Arminas beams with joy.

Lead me to your paladin companions, and when you are satisfied that I mean you no harm, you can unbind my hands and let me tend to some of your wounded." The Minotaur slowly, and rather unsteadily stands up to his full ten foot height and strides out of the tent. Seeing the archer outside of the tent motioning towards several others in the group, he purposefully strides toward them waiting for their approval and his freedom. when he arrives before the ones who were indicated to be paladins he introduces himself in a deep resonating voice. Greetings and thank you for rescuing me. My name is Malgant and I am a war-priest of Domi. If you will remove these restraints I will see what I can do for your wounded ."

Florin after tending to Davros turns his attention to the taur brought this way and sizes him up before calling on his detect evil ability just as a precaution.

(OOC:Kathy, since the taur is a player and since no players can have evil in their alignment I hope you do not mind me taking abit of liberty with my post here in saying Malgant is ok.)

Florin looks to Bralin and Arminas and nods to them, "He is okay, I sense no evil on him." Florin moves forward and uses Glimmer, his longsword to cut the ropes holding the taur's hands, "Last of your kind I seen was in the GG once, the group I was in was guarding during a wine tasteing. I believe Bralin was there too at that time. I am Florin Jadenth, a noble of the Floating City and protector for Domi along with undead hunter. It is nice to meet you sir. I'm sure your skills will be of help to us." Florin smiles to the taur before going to help the others, stopping a moment and pulling a piece of dried jerky from his pouch, "Arminas, can your friend eat this? I just feel he deserves a treat if he can and if he will except it from me."

Arminas - 2nd post
Tuesday March 20th, 2007 9:12:01 PM

Arminas watches with curiosity as Florin prounces the Minotaur as 'not evil'.

He nods to the Minotaur, and says:

"Greetings, I am Arminas Calaelen of Merrydale of the Culverwood. I am a ranger by training. Tell me, how did you come to be captured? We ourselves were captured and taken as slaves by Parnoths spawn, and barely escaped. I still bear the scars of slavery upon my back."

When Florin offers the jerky for Ewan he says:

"She will eat jerky when she is hungry, though I think she would prefer to pull the eye from her socket. I don't suppose you would permit that, so yes the jerkey will be fine. Thanks."

OOC: Description info for David
Arminas is a wood elf with dark brown flowing hair, somewhat tan (for an elf) skin and deep, dark emerald eyes. He is slightly taller than most elves, and is proud of his 5 ft 4 inch height. He is quick, even for an elf. He is normally dressed in colors of the forest, sort of a mix of dark oak and mossy green. A finely crafted bow is normally hung over his right shoulder.

As Lily and Any work to tie up your foes, Harvest moves among them, attempting to stabilize those still bleeding. [You only needed to stabilize 2, with a DC 15 heal check, so the last 3 rolls weren't needed.]

After a few minutes' work, all of the foes except the half-orc are stabilized (the half-orc died on the battlefield). Only the half-elf is conscious, however.

At the camp, Arminas and Bralin discover a minotaur, and cautiously bring him to the group. He introduces himself as Malgant, a priest of Domi, and Florin and Lorth can verify that there is no taint of evil upon him.

The rest of the camp is, for now, unexplored.

Busy searching the dead and dying for some booty, the little halfling pauses to look at the minotaur, with a frown. The stories are true. Well, that's a worry, which of the other stories are true too? S'pose we could all hide behind him in battle...

"Ho, there," she calls out brazenly to the minotaur, "I'm Lily Bolger Newbury Pipewood Trufflefinder born in the Crescent Valley over that way," pointing randomly, "yonder and far away. I am pleased to meet you, though I will just finish this work first. I don't risk life and limb and being swallowed whole by a giant dog for nothing."

Lily stands proudly to her full 3'2" before clambering over the dead half-orc. She has a look about, noting details before beginning a thorough search of the camp. She stoops and picks up two sticks about four feet long. "Hey, look here, anyone want one of these crappy javelins. I don't!"

Lily wears a (now dirty) white tunic with a blue apron over it. A wide belt holds the apron in place, with at least 2 daggers tucked in to it. Her pale green cloak doesn't conceal the two short swords attached to her belt, nor the beautiful quiver hanging from one side.

Starting with the tents, looking for evidence of recently dug earth for things buried. Wary of traps she will not just yank open chests or boxes etc.

He stands his ground near the prisoners keeping an eye on them while the rest of his friends complete their business.
Turning quickly to the Taur he says, "Greetings, I am Lorth Jeredosta, paladin of Gargul, originally from Jarlwolf, but finding myself mainly on the road these past few years. We would be glad to share the road with a battle priest."

Bralin answers Arminas, "Aye. Yet her skills are most helpful."
The warrior shrugs, "We do not attack innocents, and so intent must be determined. Tis a risk we accept. Harvest, Any, and Lorth will not change, so we must adjust."

The taur passes Florin's inspection, and Bralin dutifully removes the last of Malgant's bonds.

"I am Bralin Stoneminder," the dwarf intones. Armored in dull black platemail, and carrying a waraxe, he doesn't bother explaining his skills. "If ye be a healer, Florin requires attention."

Bralin takes a moment to examine the status of the foeman with the guisarme. If he's still alive, the dwarf sets aside his axe long enough to cast a healing spell of his own [Cure Minor Wounds].

Rising, he points out the camp.
"Some must search the camp, while others guard the prisoners. Florin and Lorth, will you guard?"

Malgant the minotaur is very large. The young girl within Harvest Moon peers wordlessly out from behind Anthos at the towering horned cleric of Domi. But it has been a long time since that girl wandered out of the lands known as the Contested Kingdoms.

Solonn's message was to walk the Wold spreading peace, and one cannot do such a thing peering from behind.

"Peace be with you." One small hand emerges from an overlarge sleeve as she reaches up to brush away the crest of mouse brown hair that hangs over one eye. "I am Harvest Moon. Do you have a surname, Malgant?" she asks.

Clutching the one item he seems to have retained when he was captured, a small totem pouch around his neck, Malgant speaks a short prayer to Domi and lays his hand on Florin's shoulder, completing the spell and allowing the healing magic to flow from him into Florin. He then begins answering some of the questions posed to him and returning greetings. You get the impression that despite his size, Malgant is rather trusting of most folk he meets, a suspicion made fact as he explains his capture.

" Well, I was traveling through the woods here when I saw this camp in the distance. Not figuring that I had any reason to be on guard I approached and hailed the camp, you can't just go barging into someone's camp without announcing yourself. All of a sudden the trees and plans all grew real fast and held me fast. Big and fairly strong I might be, but nimble, well, not so much. I struggled for a few minutes until I heard several people telling me to surrender or they would heat my armor and cook me until I did. I know that spell myself, and let me tell you, it is far from a gallant way to die. So I dropped my weapon and they came out and beat me senseless while I was still all caught up in the plants. I was unconsious for awhile, not sure how long, and then I heard the fighting outside and the next thing I knew, friend Bralin was opening the tent and setting me free to meet all of you. By the way, my gear is probably in one of the tents up there. A backpack, greatsword, pouch and my plate. Too big for these brigands to use so likely it is tossed in a corner somewhere."
Malgant pauses, tracing his train of thought back to where he left off before being distracted by the others searching the camp. He spies Davros, looking like he was at the bottom of a minotaur wrestling pile and motions the mage over to tend his wounds. Once that prayer is said he addresses Harvest Moon's question. His face becomes solemn as he does so, obviously the answer to the question bothers him.

" I have a surname, sure. All folks bear the name of their family that came before them. But.... I am not allowed to use my surname. My family, well, they shunned me when the priests made me leave my homeland. See, I made some bad choices back home, trusted the wrong sort of people, and when I went to set it right...well, people who followed me and trusted that I was in command of the situation and would get them all home safe, died. The priests said that it was my fault but I didn't see no other way to set things right. Well they cast me out into the Wold and will not welcome me back until I have become the hero that those soldiers thought I was when they followed me. And now this. The first bunch of people I meet entangle me in plants and make me surrender and beat me senseless. Not a promising start to making a name for myself." Malgant goes quiet for a moment reflecting inwardly. Then his face brightens as if he has just remembered something.

" Florin, you said you were a protector of Domi? I had read about them in the texts as I learned my lessons in the temple. I always wanted to become one, protecting folks that couldn't protect themselves. Maybe Domi meant for me to get caught by these brigands so that I could meet you and learn how to become a Protector." He looks hopefully at Florin.

He wears no robes but the tools of a wizard can be seen about him with a careful look. A rat sits on his shoulder grooming and cleaning itself. You get the distinct impression that it is annoyed at having to do so, as if the battle was Davros' fault.

You exchange a little information with Maglant, who immediately makes himself useful healing the wounded.

Arminas looks about for any sign of movement, but sees only the faint rustlings of forest creatures. The camp appears deserted.

Lily begins searching the tents, and finds little of use. There are scattered bedclothes, and a few odds and ends. To her practiced eye, it looks as if somebody packed up in a terrible hurry. In one of the tents, she does find a large set of armor, an equally large sword, and a backpack.

Florin makes a very impressive speech to the prisoners, only one of whom is conscious and able to hear it. The half-elf does not seem inclined to start trouble. At Florin's words, he swallows quickly and tries to look innocuous.

Any is concerned about the bindings of the other prisoners, which should be seen to before they awaken.

"A man I once knew told me that Heroism lives within and not without, Protector Malgant," Harvest Moon replies to the minotaur's story. "Many acts hailed as Heroism are a mixture of good fortune and foolishness. If you are good of heart, and care for others, then your Heroism will shine from within those things."

"Or so I have been taught."

Harvest inclines her head to the Protector of Domi, excusing herself as she answer's Anthos' call to inspect the bonds. (Use Rope 21)

"In a way, it is fortunate for you to be captured by this band, Protector. I do not think that the Culverwood would have allowed you so far into it's depths had they not subdued it so."

"And that is a question that must soon have an answer. How did they so easily bring the Culverwood to heel and for what purpose? The presence of the Dragon Follower would speak to Parnoth's involvement, but we cannot know that for certain."

"Do you think it safe to bring these back to Windtree? From there we might send word to Greenmage Grynntym. He may have the power to compel the truth of them."

Arminas returns from scouting around the camp, and report to the others:

"I did not find any trace of other enemies."

He calls Ewan down, and again praises her for her help. Looking over at the wolf, who must be standing guard over his druid, and the obvious look of contempt on Lorth's face, Arminas says:

"What of the wolf? It will kill to protect its master, and they do not easily live bound. I do not have the power to speak with it at the moment, I am afraid Lorth must take responsibility for it."

"Also, if the druids shape shift they may easily slither from the bonds. Not to be the judge and jury, but do you think any druid that allows this desecration of the Culverwood deserves to live?"

Any listens to Malgant, nodding at points in the huge minotaur's story.

"My name is Anthos Westar, but please call me Any. It is a pleasure to meet you. Thank you for the healing spell. Normally, I can take care of that myself, but what with the battle, my spell capability is slightly diminished at the moment.

We welcome another protector of those who cannot protect themselves.

I am a Bard of sorts, but have other skills as well. We look forward to getting to know you better."

Malgant
Thursday March 22nd, 2007 6:53:29 PM

Malgant takes heart in Harvest's words, knowing that had he not fought when and where he did back before he was cast out, the damage to his homeland would have been far greater than the soldiers and initiates that had died in the battle. That did not keep him from seeing their faces to this day each evening and morning when he said his prayers. The burden of their deaths was still his to carry.

At Lily's discovery of his missing gear, Malgant goes over to the tent and sets about gearing himself up. He listens to the comments back and forth about the brigands and the problems that the group faces in returning them to, he assumes, their home base. As he puts on his armor he chimes in to the conversation.

" I can make you able to tell whether what they tell you is the truth or not. Tomorrow I can pray to Domi for the power to do so. As to the druids subdueing the wood and being evil and all that. Did you ask them? I mean, I didn't get off to such a grand start with them, what with the entangling and the threatening to roast me in my armor and all. But they didn't have to warn me. They could have proceeded with the heating of my armor and allowed it to kill me while I was held helpless. They didn't. Sometimes you have to do things that you don't want to, things that make your skin crawl and make you hate yourself for doing them, because the alternative is that other people that you care about will be harmed if you don't. I haven't known alot of druids, it wasn't all that popular among my people, but from what I know they would be just as horrified by the damage you say they are doing to nature as you are. But if I was all but unable to be hurt by you and I threatened say your mother or maybe your child with certain death if you didn't do my bidding, what choice would you have? until someone stronger and better equiped to deal with that threat came along, you would be damned if you harmed nature, and just as damned if you didn't. Rest from your fight, revive those injured and knocked unconscious and tomorrow when I am able to make lying not an option, find out what is going on by asking. You were all capable of handily defeating them, maybe YOU are the hope that they need to rid themselves of some oppression that is compeling them to harm nature."

The last pieces of his Gear in place Malgant steps back out of the tent and you see him armored and ready to assist in whatever still needs to be done. Armored he stands a couple of inches shy of ten feet tall. The full plate he wears was obviously made for him and fits him like a second skin. The greatsword on his back appears easily large enough to split a full grown steer in one swing, and he appears to have a fairly good idea how to handle it. Now that he is armed you can see that he can easily strike someone who wishes to do him harm before they even close with him.

"Are any of you still injured? Domi has granted me still more spells that I can use to heal you or, if you want me to, your prisoners."

OOC
I haven't read back far enough to see what exactly they are doing to the wood, but that is just as well since Malgant probably hadn't noticed the wood as much different from any other he has ever passed through. "We tried diplomacy Malgant. If anything we were overly cautious. Even though we entered the camp of a potential enemy we gave them every chance for discussion instead of fighting. Fireballs were the only answer we received. As I have learned all too well, sometimes battle is necessary and forced upon you."

"Arminas, Bralin. I should mention that Whiskers originally reported seeing more people present than we encountered in the battle. We should be wary. Maybe they have another camp and reinforcements nearby."

Florin Jadenth-AC:20-HP:34/65
Thursday March 22nd, 2007 10:07:38 PM

Florin listens to Malgant and smiles as he hears his comment, "The gods work in various ways so it is possible Domi lead you to find me. I fear that paladins of Domi seem to be rare anyway in the Floating City for sure. I was taught by one but he was the only one I had met or even heard of in the Float and then there is me now when and if I should ever return there. I can help you as much as I can my new friend."

Florin watches the prisoners and hearing Arminas comment looks to him and ponders before speaking, "I worried the same thing of the druid back at the elven village. However we spared him and I fear I will not take the life of a bound and beaten person. The wolf however I would prefer to wait and see it's intentions, maybe you can speak to it later or this here druid can see to it not having to be killed."

Florin smiles lightly to Arminas and understands the man's feelings towards these people and just hopes Arminas can understand that Florin himself can not take the life of someone unarmed and defenseless without causing problems with his ethics and ethics of Domi.

DM Kathy
Friday March 23rd, 2007 12:38:38 AM

You continue to get acquainted with Maglant and debate over what to do with the prisoners.

In her search of the prisoners, Lily turned up several nice items. There are the weapons, of course: a rapier, a scimitar, a longbow, and a guisarme - all of at least masterwork quality. There are several ordinary weapons as well. There is a shiny, lightweight chain shirt, and two other high-quality chain shirts that aren't quite as light. There's a very nice breastplate, and some hide armor as well. There's a wand, an amulet, a pair of gloves, and a cloak.

Enemy Status:

The half-orc is dead. The boar is dead. The other enemies/prisoners are all stable. All but the half-elf and the wolf are unconscious. The half-elf is conscious, but he is looking at the ground and so far has only spoken to the wolf, trying to get it to calm down. The wolf isn't attacking anybody, but it stays close to the half-elf and is clearly picking up on his distress. The creature paces anxiously, and tends to growl at any of you who come too near.

Of the unconscious prisoners, the formerly-guisarme-weilding human fighter looks the "closest" to being awake. The nimbler human, by contrast, is gravely wounded and almost wasn't saved. The druid and the half-dragon have sustained significant subdual damage. If you want to talk to any prisoner except the half-elf, you'll need to wait several hours, or give them some magical healing.

"Okay booty hunting is over here. I've gathered these together from those WHO TRIED TO KILL US as a reasonable and just measure of compensation, though there should always be more. Interesting that there's no coin here. I like coin, I like to polish it. Still, we deserve this, ourselves. Personally. Us. Here. Now."

"It would be good if we could identify most of this ourselves, and use it ourselves too. I've always found the gods provide well, and at the very least they send a buyer along at the right time."

"So, here we have the nice weapons, quality stuff: a rapier, a scimitar, a longbow, and a funny pole-arm. There a pile of ordinary weapons over there too."

"Next, look this chain shirt, extra shiny, is rather light too. Worth quite a bit no doubt. These two here look very good quality too, but not as light as this. Here feel it. Light isn't it?"

Appraise 5
"There's some breastplate and hide armour here too, but I don't know much about quality in these things. Never had that much interest in them myself. Either too hard to find someone to fit into them or just too rare."

Appraise 17
"Now the real goodies. Ooh, gloves. If no-one objects I'd like to have a go at identifying these. The other items aren't something I'm likely to have experience in. So here's an amulet, a wand, and a cloak worth looking at."

"I hope I haven't missed anything, you can't pick some of these magic items from mundane stuff sometimes."

Providing no objections Lily tries on the gloves, both of them at once. Hoping that these might be a pair of the famed gloves that help dexterity Lily tries her juggling (only basic stuff with 3 balls). She ties three knots in a rope rapidly to see if it feels any easier. Pulling out her bow and an arrow she shoots at a small knot in a distant tree to see if that is easier than before. She also clicks her fingers, shakes her hands and tries to command the gloves to do what they do. [and it looks a little comic to watch her do so]

Bralin doesn't understand the issue with the prisoners.
"March them back to the elves and hand them over. Their gear is forfeit to us."

The dwarf picks up the wand. He speaks to Lily, "The gods have bestowed on me the abilty to identify magical properties. It will take time, and I can query on but one item each day."

He turns to Any.
"Let us gather the spoils, wake the vanquished, and return to the village."

Lorth
Friday March 23rd, 2007 9:20:28 AM

"I agree with Bralin, we should hand the prisoners over to the elves and let them met out justice."
He turns to Arminas, "As for the wolf, why can it not be allowed to run free? Perhaps it is the pet of this half-elf at the moment, but would you not facing certain imprisonment tell Ewan to fly free, perhaps awaiting your return someday? Wolves live here in the culverwood, perhaps it could join them. Would it be Ewan's fault if you told it to do something underhanded? I think not, I think perhaps Ewan would follow your order to the death because the bird loves you, and I say it is the same between this wolf and half-elf. I say you are a might quick to condem and destroy other animals."
Having said his piece Lorth awaits the parties decision what to do with the prisoners.

Arminas
Friday March 23rd, 2007 11:20:47 AM

Arminas gives a smile full of scorn to Lorth.

"I thought you had a problem with how I dealt with the bear. Why did you not talk with me, instead of judging my actions based upon your self righteous view of the Wold. So now that you have given me your judgement, I will try and explain it to you. First, the bear back at Windtree. I utilized three spells to try and save the bear. I attempted to calm him, charm him and I spoke with him. He resisted all attempts, and started to get upset about what was happening with his friend. He was about 5 seconds from becoming angry, and attacking and possibly killing someone. He would not have gone frolicking about the woods as you suppose. Perhaps we could have subdued and caged or tied him, but for what purpose? I myself was caged once, and I would die before that happens again. That goes for myself, Ewan and anyone or anything else I care for."

Arminas looks about at the prisoners and the wolf, who paces by his friend.

"The wolf will only leave if his friend tells him too, and that may be only to get his pack to attack us and free his friend. I think you do not understand the bond between an animal with a ranger or druid. It is not like those who own a horse, subjecting and mastering it. They are friends, they are one. Think what you will, this is not the first time I have been judged by a paladin, and it won't be the last."

As compelling as is the pure light of Alemi, Harvest Moon recalls the many hours spend in contemplation of Gargul's way as well. She tips her head to one side and eyes Paladin Lorth from under her crest of hair.

"Death is the way of things, is it not? All things die. All things must one day die and go on to Gargul," she says. Harvest grows still, as though pondering the thought. Then she moves to the nearest tent and tugs at one of the stakes at the perimeter that help it hold its shape.

"We should remove these from the Culverwood," says Harvest Moon. "These and the ones in the false camp."

"It may be possible to make travois from the tent poles and canvas in which to carry the unconscious ones. I can bring two magic horses as well," she adds as she works to break down the enemy camp, "that can help us in this task."

"I know that it goes against the grain to kill a creature, but in this case I agree with Arminas. "Hold," states the dwarf, with calm authority.

"The case of wolf and bear are unequal. The bear's bondmate was dead. The wolf's bondmate is not. By Arminas' admission, this ranger desires neither his own death nor that of his bondmate's and therefore will keep the wolf in check." Bralin stares meaningfully at wounded half elf as he utters the last sentence. After making sure the defeated foe grasps the situation, he continues.

"We need not dismantle the camp. Remove the people, and assuredly Culverwood will deal with the remainder."

"Revive the human fighter. He and the half elf will carry the Parnothian. T'will put idle hands to use. Malgant will carry the druid. "

"Though I do rather enjoy exploiting the fact that it is not, I wish the Wold was black and white.

"Myself, I see these two," indicating the half-elf and wolf, "as one. And they tried to kill us. However, perhaps he is remorseful and repentant, and the wolf will follow him on that path. If we kill his wolf he will not repent. He will seek revenge, and should die with his wolf. The question is not whether we kill the wolf, but whether we kill both of them, and hence all enemies.

"Do we take prisoners? Why do we take prisoners?

"These are the important questions for this group. As an individual I've always found reaching that answer much easier, though I have never faced such a numerous group before."

"What ... " Harvest hauls on one of the ropes running up to the peak of a tent. " ... What is your name?" she calls out to the half-elf as the tent topples, collapsing into a shapless mass. "Speak for yourself," she continues. "How did you happen in with these Evil people? What were your designs upon the elves of Windtree Newtown? And moreover ... " Harvest Moon strains at the edge of the canvas, dragging it from its points of anchor to a shape that might be more easily folded. She puffs out a breath causing the crest of hair over her forehead to float up into the air.

Florin watches the going on of the group and listens. Otherwise he looks to Bralin and nods to him, "I'm ready to move on to the elf city as soon as everyone else is too."

Florin waits and still has not put his weapon away, just in case. He does look to Arminas and speaks to him, "Friend, I hope not all of your comment was aimed towards me. I myself do not judge you or your actions, I was just stating I myself can not bring harm to these people as long as they're defenseless and are not attacking. If they would attack on the other hand I would defend my friends and myself to the bitter end if need be."

Florin doesn't really think any of Arminas's comments was aimed at him but just in case he wanted to make his ethics clear. He does look to Lorth and smiles to his paladin friend, "We must be mindful of each other, all of us have different abilities, different codes and conduct. I would no sooner change another then I can change myself. We can only ask that others try to understand us and we keep a open mind and try to understand them as well. I was a leader of a group and looking back on it I think this was my failing, not understanding the others around me and they not understanding me. We all must meet in the middle if nothing else."

"It is our duty to defend the town. These people attacked the town once already and probably would have done so again. Let us take them as prisoners and decide what to do with them after we get back to Windtree."

"Lily, perhaps I can aid you a bit. Would a detection of magic help?"

Davros removes a slender wand from his belt pouch and mutters a single word. After he examines the items for magic auras, he will then scan the prisoners to see if they have any magic hidden on them. He doesn't want to see an overlooked item cause possible harm to the group.

Watching Harvest struggle to tear down the camp, why he is still not really sure, Malgant moves to help her. As he passes Florin and notes he is still wounded he speaks several more short prayers to Domi and heals the Paladin. "The Culverwood is said to be as a single living thing, Protector Malgant." Harvest Moon acknowledges the minotaur's help with a smile. It will go so much the quicker with his greater strength and leverage at play. "It is said to have a will of its own, playing tricks with the paths and trails that run through it, moving them about at it's whim. It suffers none to be within its bounds that it does not wish to be there."

"And so it is a surprise to see such a group as this living within the Culverwood. As we approached, there was almost a feeling of the Woods guiding us to them. The Culverwood is not to be tread lightly. We have only done so once before, and then protected by leaves blessed by the Greenmage of these woods."

Harvest completes the folding of a large canvas into a satisfyingly neat square bundle, pushing down the final recalcitrant end.

"And it is true, as Bralin Stoneminder says, that the Culverwood would likely need no aid in cleaning the trappings of this camp away and returning this place to the wild. None need help in this. I do it from a personal gesture of respect. Not only for the Culverwood, but for all places and all paths where one might tread."

"I wonder whether the elves might find use for these? They still seem quite serviceable."

Arminas

Any lowers his bow, the arrow unfired, and quickly stows it away. There is relief evident in his face that he did not need to fire.

To the ranger he says,

"You hold the life of your friend in your own hands. We will not hesitate if you cannot control him."

This said, he leaves the guarding of the prisoners to the paladins, and goes to help Harvest.

"An added benefit of dismantling this camp is that we can pass these tents to those who can put them to better use. There are many who are still homeless due to Parnoth's recent activities."

Lorth
Sunday March 25th, 2007 9:56:20 AM

Lorth looks directly at Arminas, "Killing defenseless creatures is wrong and that is what you did with the bear, surely you can see that as you profess yourself to be a goodly sort. You say the bear would of attacked, I saw no such thing.
Who are you to be judge and jury or what a being will do in the future? Can you read minds, or look into a man's soul? You JUDGED the bear, and because YOU thought it would attack YOU killed it.
I have JUDGED nothing, not even you. I am just wary of your actions. I allow people to make their choices before taking action. You do not. That makes you no better than a tyrant, dispensing your will as you see fit."

Turning to Florin, "Watching someone commit a evil act and doing nothing is nigh as bad as commiting the act oneself. That is how tyrant's are made."

He pauses... then continues...

"When the king came for my neighbors,
I remained silent;
They must of done something wrong.

When he locked up the innkeepers,
I remained silent;
I was not a innkeeper.

When he came for our milita,
I did not speak out;
I was not on the milita.

When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out."

"I cannot stand by and let any of you kill helpless beings."

Harvest
Sunday March 25th, 2007 11:08:07 AM

"But only through exercising our judgment may we take action from upon our moral stance, Paladin Lorth." Harvest Moon spares a moment from her labors to intercede in a debate that grows more heated with each word. "Does not judgment grow from the soil of our moral beliefs? If one does not judge, then one acts without moral direction."

She tips a head to one side as though, upon the ground, spying a moment's contemplation.

"Is there also not a distinction between the Helpless and the Innocent? The law protects the innocent. Yet it mandates the destruction of Evil and the demands that the criminal be brought to heel, regardless of its ability to defend itself. I think that one must have faith in the law to perform its best for the people."

"And so if I were to caution you, Arminas Calaelen, it would be against haste. Lawful actions are a mandate of the people to protect the people. I believe that Paladin Lorth has the right when he speaks of knowing the reasons behind slaying the bear. The people cannot have faith in the law unless they know its reasons and through that knowing, form their own judgments."

"And so again," Harvest turns to the half-elfish ranger before continuing with her labors, "I would ask that you name yourself and explain how you came to be in this situation."

Arminas - last post

Arminas shrugs as Lorth again speaks of the bear.

"Perhaps since you do not understand the language of bears, you do not know. I was speaking to the bear. The bear spoke to me. That is why I knew what I must do."

Turning to Harvest.

"Yes, I must learn patience that is true."

Lily spends some time playing with the magic items. The gloves do seem to make her feel a bit more nimble. It's hard to tell about the wand, since all wands look basically alike. This one doesn't have any carvings or decorations on it that give any hints as to what it does; it is a plain piece of ash wood with a leather grip.

Davros helps with a Detect Magic. The gloves, the wand, the longbow, the less-shiny chain shirts, the amulet, and the breastplate all detect as magic.

You begin to debate about what to do with your prisoners. Harvest questions the half-elf.

"I am Pelwyn, called Pelwyn Morningbright," he answers. He looks nervously at Arminas, who seems prepared to end the wolf's life. "Please," he says, his voice breaking. "Please, don't kill Windhunter. I-I'll dismiss him, if that's what you want. I'll send him away." His voice is growning increasingly desperate. "Please. I'll do whatever you want."

He seems distracted as he answers the remaining questions, eyeing the nocked arrow nervously. "I am--was--an adventurer. I had a run of bad luck, lost most of my gear. I was looking for a way to make some cash, and I heard about this group that might be looking for people." He blows out a breath. "I'm sorry I ever took this job." He nods over to the half-dragon woman. "That dame is crazy! Always ranting about getting back into her 'master's' good graces, by which I guess she meant Parnoth.

"We attacked the town because she had some crazy notion that it would please her 'master'." He looks anxiously around. "Don't hurt Windhunter," he adds.

Harvest watches him carefully as he speaks. She senses that there may be a bit more to the "run of bad luck" that led him to seek out this group, but she senses no deception about anything else he said.

Lorth
Monday March 26th, 2007 8:15:34 AM

"Yes Harvest, you are correct we must trust in the law, Arminas is not the law. However I would be content if he discusses things before taking action like you said, unless of course there is imminent danger. Let common sense prevail."

Lorth listens to the half-elf's story with interest. He waits for Harvest to speak before saying anything.

Harvest
Monday March 26th, 2007 10:18:14 AM

"A wise and kind man once told me that most of our luck we make for ourselves, be it good or bad, Pelwyn Morningbright." The brown girl speaks to the half-elf even as she carries a bundle of poles wrapped in her two arms. "You hear us speak of judgment. From our judgment and the acts that follow from them comes our luck. Good or bad, we must take responsibility for it. Most terrible, is when others that we love and care for are caught up in the luck that comes forth from our acts and judgment. It is most terrible when they too must bear these responsibilities."

Harvest kneels to the ground and the poles clatter as she releases them into a loose pile.

"I will not ask about the luck that has brought you to such a pass as this. But I will ask that you think upon it, and upon the responsibility that Windhunter shares in all his innocent devotion. I see sincerity in your love for your friend. I see also in you a sincere regret."

"As for your judgment and its consequences, one either mends and heals or one dies. Perhaps this is a chance for you to mend your judgment, and through it, your luck. The elves of Windtree could use one of your abilities. To hunt the wilds, to aid and advise in defense. If my companions think it wise, perhaps you can offer your services."

Bralin
Monday March 26th, 2007 12:01:18 PM

No deaths appear imminent. Bralin keeps his own counsel. He makes a mental note to bring up his companions unyielding stances at mission's end.

"I will identify the properties of the wand while you break camp," he tells the others.

The dwarf produces his holy symbol, a perfect sphere of obsidian, fist size and highly polished. He sits off to one side, rubbing the stone while reciting an incantation. The wand lies on the ground before him. Occasionally, Bralin picks it up. The incantation goes on for some time.

[Cast Identify on the wand - its the divine version, no material component needed]

Any
Monday March 26th, 2007 1:38:23 PM

Any listens as the conversation flows around him. Uncharacteristically he says nothing, but continues to break down the camp, and prepare all of the gear for transport. When all is ready, he will help in the disposition of the captives for transport.

"Let's take these to those better suited to decide their fates. We need to take extra care of the draconian, perhaps doubling the ropes and gags. we do not want her waking and spraying acid, or breaking free."

Arminas
Monday March 26th, 2007 4:22:00 PM

Arminas lowers his bow, and looks at the half-elf.

"Do not make me kill the wolf. Control it, do not send it away."

Then looking at the wolf and then back to the half-elf, he adds:

"Lorth is correct in one thing, if you cause an innocent creature to attack it is you who are guilty. Upon you I shall rend judgement. That is, if I sense we are in imminent danger."

Arminas looks about at the forest. While most probably think they need simply follow the same path that brought them here, he knows in the Culverwood things are different.

"Follow me closely as we make our way back. Keep the druid unconscious, even if you have to bruise her."

Malgant
Monday March 26th, 2007 6:30:49 PM

Malgant finishes bundling up the tents with the others and as he pulls the poles from the last tent he pulls a blanket from inside before completing the bundle. He folds the blanket and sets it near the druid for later. ONce the whole breaking of camp is complete and the group prepares to move out he takes the blanket and drapes it over his shoulder, before hoisting the druid up onto the same shoulder. Metal armor is not teribly comfortable for the wearer, but it is much less comfortable to br laid over said armor and carried through the woods. He checks the druid's bonds before lifting her onto his shoulder. When all this is complete he announces he is ready to go and listens to Arminas to stay close.

Davros
Monday March 26th, 2007 7:35:06 PM

"It looks as though the debate has ended for now. I would like to raise a new point. I guess it may be difficult to transport the dragonlady. Since no spellbook was found among the items and gear of this camp, I would guess that she may have innate magical powers. If this is the case, simply binding her hands may not be enough. Can we keep her silenced for the return trip? And her acid breath may be even more problematic. She will be able to destroy any gag placed in her mouth."

Florin is thankful for the extra healing and looks to Lorth when he speaks to him. Florin smiles gently and shakes his head, "I simply trust in my companions Lorth." Florin leaves it as that and looks to the prisoners before speaking once more to Lorth, "Shall we see to them as their guards then while we all work back to the elves home?"

Florin otherwise lets the conversation drop as he doesn't want to continue the harboring of the subject and is ready to move.

Monday March 26th, 2007 11:38:42 PM

Bralin holds the wand and concentrates, and is able to identify it as a Wand of Cure Moderate Wounds.

You discuss what is to be done with the prisoners. The half-elf, Pelwyn, is doing a reasonable job of keeping the wolf under control, considering that he is bound so that he cannot put a hand on the creature.

The other prisoners may be more of a problem. There are four of them, and the human fighter in particular is large and heavy (even without his armor). It's going to be a chore carrying them, and the gear from the camp. Plus, as Davros and Arminas point out, spellcasters pose their own problems.

Lily the Harlequin
Monday March 26th, 2007 11:44:38 PM

It would probably cause more problems for the halfling to try to help with most of the uprooting of the camp. Instead she helps with the ropes and pegs as best she can.

"I've bagged those chain shirts together for our inconvenience. That is to say, now that they're in one bag together I cannot carry it. Could someone else please carry it for us? The gloves and amulet I am carrying, Bralin has the wand about to identify it."

"This half-elf, perhaps, deserves some sympathy. Tis true that we make our own luck, good or bad. But sometimes only bad luck presents itself as a means towards better opportunities. I'd rather try some 'bad luck' to be fed, hoping to find better, rather than starve and die in a ditch. Perhaps that's the case here.

"Either way, I say its for the elves to decide. I wouldn't trust him to join this group, new though I am that may not be worth much. The elves, as a community can debate 'justice' for, well, for a few moons if they want. We're people of action, right?"

"As for the other prisoners: I don't know.
If someone could carry that there human, then I could jump on for a ride and probably not be noticed. But I couldn't carry him."

Lorth
Tuesday March 27th, 2007 7:20:39 AM

Lorth smiles at Florin, "It is good you have such faith. Yes lets see what we can do about guarding, and or moving these prisoners along."
Lorth pauses and address's the rest of his friends, "I've had a thought, the half-elf mentioned that this dragon lady was trying to get back in her master's good graces. Perhaps she took her own initiative and overstepped her bounds, perhaps Parnoth only told her to see what these elves where doing so close to the Culverwood and she took it upon herself to attack them. Perhaps Parnoth should be informed of this indisgression?"

Bralin
Tuesday March 27th, 2007 8:03:03 AM

"Tis a healing wand," the dwarf says as he rises. He holds out the CMW wand for Harvest.
[ooc - how many charges?]

The dwarf returns to the discussion on how to handle the prisoners. Patiently, he reiterates his earlier suggestion.

"Neither the Parnothian nor the druid were able to overcome us in fair battle. Our numbers are now greater, theirs are less, and they have no advantage of surprise. At best, an attack will but wound one of us before we slay them."

"Wake the human. Without arms or armor he is of little threat. He and the half-elf can carry the Parnothian. Malgant can carry the druid. Our arms are thus free to guard and react."

Arminas
Tuesday March 27th, 2007 9:18:13 AM

Arminas nods as Bralin speaks. He says little, but typically it is worth listening to.

"I agree. Let me state my concern for the druid though, and then I will be silent on this subject. She attacked us and we defeated her, that is true. However, if instead she chooses to flee from us that is a different problem. I will not be able to follow her, she will leave no trace. That is why I wish her to be unconscious."

Then he thinks to himself:

Plus I hate her for what she has done.

Arminas will then lead the group through the Culverwood.

"Come Florin, let me see your skills at following tracks. We can work together to find the way."

OOC: I put my thoughts above because it can probably be seen on Arminas' face.

Harvest
Tuesday March 27th, 2007 9:58:39 AM

"I think I know a way to prevent that, Arminas Calaelen." Harvest Moon stoops near the pile of captured items fishing about for just the right thing.

"You are silent Pelwyn Morningbright," Harvest addresses the half-elf as she compares first one item and then the other. "What are your thoughts on offering your services to the town of Windtree?"

"It will, of course, be up to the elves to decide. But what are your thoughts on this idea?" she asks her companions again.

Finally, she chooses one of the chain shirts, pulling its weight from the rest of the pile.

"I spoke once with Merryn Blackbridge about his affinity with Nature." Harvest begins to dress the unconscious druid girl in the shirt of chain linked metal. "I think, that in our conversation, he said that those of his belief would lose their powers if dressed in armor of refined metals."

Harvest stands and puffs a breath out at the hanging crest of her hair as she surveys her handiwork.

"I hope that this will be sufficient. I would not wish to see her slain."

Then Harvest removes a scroll from her haversack. As she reads, the scroll crumbles, and from the earth springs a slender horse. Without a word, she begins loading the Mount with the equipment from the camp in preparation for the trip back to Windtree.

Any
Tuesday March 27th, 2007 9:58:45 AM

"Harvest, if you would use one of the charges from the healing wand we found among these folk to revive the large fighter, we can do as Bralin suggests. I agree with Arminas on the disposition of the Draconinan--keep her unconscious, even if we must "bruise her a little" as he suggested.

Lorth and Florin, can either of you summon your steed to help in carrying the loads we have? Harvest, you also suggested that you could help in that area. If so, I believe we can move all in short order to our destination."

Malgant
Tuesday March 27th, 2007 6:27:54 PM

" That sounds like a good tactical plan Bralin. The druid is to be my burden in more than one way, then. I understand your concerns and they are probably valid. If she is to be my burden then I will bear her, but, I will not , nor will I le any of the rest of you keep knocking her unconcious. When she awakes I will explain her situation to her, or the rest of you can explain it. We will then ask for her parole. if she decides to give it and say she will not escape then that is fine and she can remain bound like the other prisoners . Should she refuse then I have done what I can for her to try and get her fair treatment that is without unusual discomfort for her and you can decide what to do with her at that time. I am....uncomfortable, I guess would be the best way to describe it, with dressing her in something that goes against her beliefs. Were you to capture a sorcerer and dress them in armor that restricted their casting and made it difficult for them to cast a spell that would be one thing. But dressing one who shuns metal armor as a matter of religous principle in metal armor may unnerve her to the point that she will dismiss and request for her parole out of hand when it is presented to her, forcing you to kill her. I mention this from the viewpoint of a priest. I can only begin to imagine how I would feel if not only had I been defeated by worshipers of Ga'al only to find myself revived by their unholy magic. I would feel quite violated by such a thing."

As he speaks he puts the blanket over his shoulder for padding and hoists the druidess up to begin the march toward this town the others have mentioned.

Davros

"I have some magic which may be of assitance with the transport. When we are ready to leave, I will create a magic floating disc which can carry several hundred pounds worth of weight for several hours." (scroll of Tenser's floating disc when ready CL5)

"As for the half-elf, I believe we should give him a chance. As has been stated, our adversaries are overpowered. Unbind him and let him walk, albeit with no weapon. He may prove his worth to us and the elves and perhaps find a new place for himself in this Wold>"

DM Kathy
Wednesday March 28th, 2007 12:06:51 AM

Lorth proposes reporting the dragon woman's activities to Parnoth--a bold idea, if it can be accomplished.

Bralin suggests putting the captives to work--waking the large human and having him and the half-elf carry the others.

[ooc: the wand is fully charged]

Lily stands ready to carry the smaller items, and Any suggests that the paladins summon their mounts.

Harvest proposes the additional precaution of dressing the druid in metal armor, in an attempt to supress her druidic powers. Maglant objects, and volunteers to be responsible for the druid.

The half-elf, Pelwyn, looks thoughtful. "I appear to have lost my gear again," he says with a wry twist of his mouth. "I don't know that I'll be much help to them. Still, I think I'd rather help them re-build than help another crazed dragon lady try to take over the world. If they'll have me."

Awakened, the human fighter proves to have a colorful and interesting vocabulary. At first, he insists with some vehemence that he's not carrying anybody on your say-so, but he is eventually made to understand the reality of his situation. He picks up the dragon woman with muttered complaints.

The half-elf picks up the smaller human, leaving the druid for Maglant. Arminas begins leading the party back (more or less) the way they came.

Lorth
Wednesday March 28th, 2007 7:51:51 AM

Lorth keeps his eyes on the prisoners, if any try to escape he takes action.
Since none of the party acknowledged his idea to let Parnoth know that this dragon lady had attacked the town, Lorth promises himself to talk to the elves about it. Regardless if Parnoth ordered the attack or not Lorth beleives it is a good idea. If he didn't order the attack he will know that his charges are causing trouble, and if he did order the attack he will know that the elves and surrounding towns know what he is doing.

Walking the trail in return from the Culverwood. The sun is above. And from all appearances, this ends the threat against Windtree Newtown.

*step*stepstep*step*stepstep*

Harvest swings along with a juanty step, dancing to a rhythm within her head.

"Paladin Lorth," she calls out, "I have given thought to your idea. To send word to Parnoth of the Dragon Follower's actions. I do not know if it would be wise to draw more of Parnoth's interest in the direction of Windtree. But, if we were to find Remo Treadlefoot, he might be able to introduce things in such a way as to aid not only Windtree, but the Valley as a whole."

"I think it is a good idea."

Harvest casts a smile over her shoulder at Anthos. Things appear as though they are looking up.

Arminas
Wednesday March 28th, 2007 11:03:09 AM

Arminas carefully picks his way through the Culverwood. It is one thing to walk through the forest, but quite another to find a path for Minotaurs, horses and floating discs. Vowing to himself to find some private time to enjoy the forest without watching over a loud and clumsy group, he continues to lead.

On occasion, he looks over his shoulder to see that the druid is still safely on the shoulder of the minotaur.

Looking up, he sees Ewan flying high over head. A smile finally comes back to his face.

Davros
Wednesday March 28th, 2007 4:41:28 PM

"Lorth, I apologize for not responding to your suggestion earlier. I was preoccupied with the prisoners. I agree wholeheartedly. Parnoth has supposedly turned a new leaf- or so I've heard through gossip at the Giggling Ghost. And Harvest raises an excellent point. We may even know someone who could carry that word to Parnoth for us. This matter requires more discussion." Davros then tells the human fighter prisoner, "if you spent less time swearing and more time observing the Wold around you, you might learn a thing or two." He then lists with agonizing detail information about the surrounding plants, animals and the forest itself. He goes on for quite some time. At some point the prisoners will look forward to getting where they are going just so they don't have to listen to him anymore.

Burdened but hopeful, you begin making your way back through the Culverwood. Arminas, somewhat disgruntled by the large and noisy company, is nevertheless able to find paths to keep you all headed in the right direction. Although you do not leave by precisely the same route as you came in, you never really get lost. Or, not very lost.

The human fighter continues muttering complaints and threats, heedless of Pelwyn's occasional urgently whispered, "Shut up!" His burden, the dragon sorcerer, does not stir. Nor does the human rogue being carried over Pelwyn's shoulder.

Maglant finds, however, that his prisoner is beginning to stir and waken. You have not quite left the confines of the Culverwood.

I have studied the sword and scripture most of my days in the church. I was good with the sword and taught the others when they needed help, and they in turn taught me scriptures and things about religion. Beyond that I am not very worldly." Turning his attention to the druid, he says," When you captured me there was a threat that my armor would be heated to roast me alive inside unless I surendered to your group. I complied Your word was good then. Your people have been defeated by this group and thought they wanted to dress you in armor that would violate your beliefs and negate your powers I bid them wait until you were conscious and able to be reasoned with. please, listen to these people and give them your word that you will not try to make trouble or escape on the way to this village they speak of. Rather than the hard justice of steel and spell there they offer you a chance to defend yourself at a fair hearing. It sounds like a good deal to me, if I were you, I'd take it." "Would you like some water?"

Davros
Friday March 30th, 2007 4:55:07 PM

So far so good. The prisoners are behaving so far but I don't trust that to continue. Didn't the paladins sense evil intent from most of them?

"Malgant, did anyone tell you where we are going? We are headed towards the elven town of Windtree."

Malgant
Friday March 30th, 2007 6:05:30 PM

" Here you go Harvest, since she is awake now she can probably walk on her own. Miss druid, would you like to tell us your name so that we need not refer to you as ' the druid'? Also if you would, please explain what has brought you to a life of waylaying travelers in the woods? "

Malgant puts the druid down, pointedly keeping his large body between Arminas and the druid, since the Arminas seems to have such trouble with being civil and responsible for someone the group has taken prisoner. While he does not completely trust the prisoners, Malgant realizes that they are now the group's responsibility to protect and care for. The whole idea of being a protector hinges on defending those who cannot defend themselves. The tenent does not change if that person is good, or evil, Minotaur or Elf. Prisoners, bound so that they cannot start a fight or escape are by definition defenseless and deserving of protection.

Adressing himself to Davros, Malgant answers, " I have heard several of you mention the name of the town, but not being from around here I that is all I know. I gather from the way you all have spoken of it that it is a fairly new town and that it is built just at the edge of the wood. I also have guessed that these brigands have been assulting the town and making trouble for the people who live there, and the town asked or hired you to put a stop to them. Is there more I should know, and are my guesses correct?" Malgant's face seems as open as a child's would on playing a game of memory with his companions. He looks at Davros expectantly to see whether he has gotten the whole answer right.

You can tell he is ready to use it though, if needed.

"When everyone is finished visiting, I will lead us on. It is a short distance yet before we leave the Culverwood. Be on guard."

The fate of the enemy is to be determined by the elves, as our heroes transport the prisoners back to Windtree Newtown.

DM Kathy advised us that she would not be available to post from Friday onwards. Good posting from the PCs as usual.

Sorry I missed one on Tuesday, busy with work.

As the druid begins to stir a little, you pause and advise her against attempting to attack the group again. A soft groan is her only response. She does not reply to Harvest's introduction with her own name, and shortly falls unconscious again.

You set her on the ground and revive her with a little water. She seems disoriented, but also disinclined to give you any trouble. About a minute after she swallows the water, she turns and vomits. She groans again and falls back, not unconscious, but not terribly active either.

Florin, meanwhile, attempts to awe the larger human man into silence. His attempt is not notably successful; the man replies with several anatomically inventive suggestions about what Florin can do about it.

Looking about him, Arminas knows that a scant few minutes' walk will bring the group out of the Culverwood.

Lorth
Monday April 2nd, 2007 8:10:49 AM

Lorth marches along content that some other members of the party see prisoners as he does.

As they approach the edge of the culverwood he wonders what the party will charge the prisoners with when they reach the elven village. Perhaps the dragon lady could be charged with something if she ordered the attack on the elven village, but these others didn't attack the village. But last Lorth checked camping in the culverwood isn't a crime, however they did attack him and his friends, so perhaps they commited assault. Lorth wonders if the culverwood is even under the jurisdiction of the elven village. So many questions, Lorth muses.

"Be that as it may be," the dwarf's voice comes from behind the warrior, "ye'll continue to carry. And ye'll continue to move."

"Move on," Bralin calls out.

Harvest
Monday April 2nd, 2007 10:33:03 AM

It is one thing to kill from necessity. It is another entirely to allow suffering to continue while one has the means to abate it.

"Many feel the way that you do after having been struck upon the head." Harvest Moon places a hand upon the other girl's shoulder, offering herself to lean upon. "It is best that you continue walking. I will help to steady you."

Arminas
Monday April 2nd, 2007 4:30:58 PM

Arminas watches as the druid shows signs of exhaustion and trauma. Hopefully, those signs are valid. Arminas lets his arrow grow cold, and puts it back in his quiver.

"It is just a few minutes until we are out of the Culverwood. Watch the druid now that she walks. She can move through brambles that will stop you Malgant."

Arminas then leads on, trying his best to keep away from thick undergrowth.

Davros
Monday April 2nd, 2007 4:35:59 PM

Once he realizes that they are near the edge of the forest, relief becomes evident on Davros' face.

"I may be able to name many of the plants and animals within, but I am very much a novice when it comes to the ways of the forest. My learning comes more from books than from hands-on experience."

I am glad the prisoners are behaving. I can see the tension amongst the group that would cause problems if there were an incident.

Malgant
Monday April 2nd, 2007 5:45:18 PM

"Aye, that she probably can Arminas. Domi has left me with a few prayers that will make it a difficult proposition for her though. Harvest, should she walk or should I keep carrying her? Since we are close to the edge of the woods and the town you are all headed to , carrying her might get us there faster and be less painful for her. As well as less painful for us since yon warrior feels the need to continue running off at the mouth."

Harvest (2nd Post)
Monday April 2nd, 2007 6:18:55 PM

Harvest takes the weight of the girl upon herself, walking her slowly up the trail.

"Thank you, Protector Malgant, but if her head has been injured, then I think it would be best for her to walk and circulate the blood within her veins. It would also be bad for her to be bounced or jostled."

"I will remain with you and help you along," she says to the girl. "We will walk at your pace until we reach Windtree Newtown."

Lily
Monday April 2nd, 2007 7:10:21 PM

Relieved that the druid's attacks on the party have gone to her head, Lily bounds along (it's difficult to keep up with you big'uns) happily at the back of the group. She feels more relaxed now, and starts to whistle a merry tune of birds in the spring meadow.

Florin Jadenth
Monday April 2nd, 2007 11:45:20 PM

Florin shakes his head at the larger human fighter and looks to Lorth before moving abit closer to him but not to far from the fighter, "This one has the crudeness to offend even the most devoted person."

Florin is happy that they will be at the elven village soon enough as it will allow the group to rest some and also get these prisoners off their backs and behind bars for proper judgement.

DM Kathy
Tuesday April 3rd, 2007 12:43:33 AM

You are soon underway again, with the woozy druid being supported by Harvest. Your other prisoners remain unconscious.

A few minutes' walking takes you to the edge of the Culverwood, and you begin the walk back to the new settlement. This eventful day began before dawn, and it's a little surprising to realize that it's barely mid-afternoon. It is warm, but you are late enough in the year that the truly hot days are behind you. Drying grasses rustle in the breeze beside you, and birds dart busily about. Ewan makes a halfhearted attempt to chase a few, but her belly is full and she'd rather stay with Arminas.

Lily skips along at the back of the group, her light mood a sharp contrast to the human fighter. He has stopped cursing as he toils with his burden, but his hostility clings to him like a dark cloud.

At last, you return to the settlement. Nervous-looking scouts challenge you as you approach, and their relief is visible when they realize you have returned.

Lorth
Tuesday April 3rd, 2007 7:39:56 AM

Lorth follows along glad to be out of the forest.

Harvest
Tuesday April 3rd, 2007 12:04:36 PM

Harvest Moon raises an arm high into the air and waves at the elves of Windtree.

"We have arrived," she informs the girl who leans upon her. "But we must continue to walk until your head becomes clearer. When you feel better, we will ask if there might be some broth. You might feel better after having eaten something."

Bralin (Sub/Al)
Tuesday April 3rd, 2007 12:19:49 PM

Following in behind the disgruntled warrior, Bralin scans the landscape of the Elfish town. The elves seem unequipped to restrain or hold prisoners. For the moment he says nothing, but surely something must be done, and soon.

Any
Tuesday April 3rd, 2007 1:23:13 PM

Upon arrival back in the village, Any goes to the village elders, and asks about the disposition of the prisoners. Once they are secured, he is finally able to relax--a little.

He starts to wonder what is next for this new village.

Finding Harvest, he asks,

"What will become of these people when we are no longer here? We cannot stay here forever. I feel that we have greater things to do in the Wold. There is more evil to combat, more new villages to help, more people to protect.

I have been feeling more and more lately that we must go seek out this evil in the Wold, and stop it before it comes against people like those here. The gods have granted us skills beyond those of the average, and it feels like we must use these for good. I am not sure if this is so, but it feels that way."

He turns and walks out into the surrounding forest,

"I believe I need to think a few things over."

Arminas
Tuesday April 3rd, 2007 5:26:28 PM

Arminas leads the group and the prisoners to Windtree. Relief shows on his face when they make it out of the woods without the druid escaping.

When the scouts are found, Arminas explains:

"We followed the tracks of those who attacked to a hidden camp in the Culverwood. The camp was a desecration of the Culverwood, cutting a clearing in the middle of the ancient forest. When Harvest sought an audience, they attacked. Davros was within moments of death, yet we prevailed. The paladins have found evil upon all except that man. Go, tell your Elders what I have said."

Then, a thought:

"Oh, and tell them it has come to my attention that if they bind the druids in metal armor they cannot cast spells and escape. Though a quick judgement and sentence may also solve such a problem."

Arminas then calls to Ewan, and they enter the town together.

Malgant  d20+2=13
Tuesday April 3rd, 2007 5:48:51 PM

Malgant seems happy that they have left the forest and reached the town talked about so much by his new companions. He takes a quick look at the town now that they have reached it and sees that it is just starting out as his companions had mentioned. He frowns at Arminas's comment to the guards, not wanting to open another can of worms he decides to try another resolution. Turning to Harvest he asks her," Harvest? What type of attack caused this nausea and dizzyness in the druid? Will a small healing spell corect the issue? Also, can you show me the symptoms and the cue, so that I can know it in case I stumble across it again in a wounded companion?" If she will indulge him, Malgant wishes to attempt to diagnose the problem with the druid and note the symptoms ( heal check of 13) and tie them to any causes that Harvest brings to light.

OOC
sounds like a concussion to me ooc, If a small amount of healing will fix the damage so that the druid is able to speak for herself then Malgant has up to 5, 0 level spells he can and will use as minor healing to fix the damage.

Harvest
Tuesday April 3rd, 2007 8:24:41 PM

"Such feelings of illness often come from blows to the head, Protector Malgant," Harvest Moon replies. Her eyes follow Anthos as he walks away.

"I have known spells of healing to bring full recovery from such, though mine have been spent in other causes this day." Harvest kneels and gently brushes the hair from the other girl's face. "It is said that to fall asleep while such a condition exists is to risk never waking to the Wold again."

"If you have healing, Protector Malgant, I'm sure that it could not but help."

Again Harvest turns to gaze in Anthos' direction. Her lips purse in a moue of worry.

Lily
Tuesday April 3rd, 2007 8:47:26 PM

Lily follows along behind the others in to the camp. She is 'observing', something she has done a lot of in the past. This time however, it is not about noting routines to find a flaw or fault or small glitch to exploit. She smiles to herself at this novelty, finding a place for her to fit in.

She uses her Hat of Disguise to 'change' into bright yellow dress with green over-apron and red hat.

Florin Jadenth
Tuesday April 3rd, 2007 8:47:33 PM

Florin is happy to be back at the village and looks to the others, listening to their comments. Seeing Any moving off to the forest Florin moves to him for a moment and speaks to him gently, "Any? I'm sorry about out their in the forest. Trust me when I say I trust you and your judgement, specially in those things that are not in my realm of knowledge." Florin holds out his hand to the man, a simple gesture of his friendship with him, "I have some tracking skill for my undead hunting. Would you be willing to help show me some of your tricks in tracking later? I would welcome the knowledge you could give." Florin leaves that as that now and will gladly work with Any to learn more of tracking.

Other then this and till Any decides he might like to work on tracking with him, Florin spends time with Malgant, wanting to get to know the new group memeber more.

After resting Florin does his normal routine and asks Malgant to join him, "Malgant? I'm going to practice some, would you mind joining me?" If Malgant agrees the Florin moves to a safe area he usually uses and pulls his greatsword he uses mainly for strength training, "Have you ever used a greatsword Malgant? I would let you try it if you like. A big guy like you would be a good partner for training I thought too. Maybe test each others stregnth some, wrestle or such maybe? I would welcome the challenge even if you will no doubt beat me." During the match Florin will continue talking to Malgant, "Who taught you to fight if I may ask? For myself my teacher and paladin friend in the Float taught me. That seems like many years ago now. I train now to learn my new skills. You see I was not always a elf, I had a run in with a artifact that for lack of better terms killed me and brought me back as a elf. I use to not beable to carry a tea cup balanceing it for far before breaking it and not my agilty is something far different."

Florin breaks into a grin thinking, "Jella would freak out if she knew I had a minotaur friend. Jella is my adopted daughter, she lives in the Floating City with my parents right now. One day I will return and have many tales to tell her of the Wold and my friends." Florin smiles more as he thinks of his daughter for a moment, he misses her but knows she is safe and he is trying to make the Wold safe for her also so takes comfort in that knowledge, "I think Domi would be proud enough knowing I'm trying to make the Wold better for everyone and Jella also."

(OOC:Florin would wrestle with Malgant if he he would like. If you were curious David, my char has taken to training each day and is a believer in testing his stregnth and body to it's limits during training. Since it is a friendly wrestling match I will let Karhy let me know if I need rolls or if she would like to dictate how it goes. Also David, below is a post of what Florin looks like since I don't think I said.)

Florin is 4'11" and 110lbs. He wears royal blue clothing when out of his armor. His hair is black and pulled back in a pony tail and has ice blue eyes. Florin always has his swordbelt and his trusty sword "Glimmer" with him at all times. When in armor it is also a faint blue hued with a vizor helmet. Besides his necklace with the symbol of Domi, his large steel shield has the symbol on it also. For a elf he is also heavily muscled (str 19) so he deffinetly stands out from the normal elf. His speaking will set him off from other elves too as he was not always a elf.

Davros
Tuesday April 3rd, 2007 10:59:49 PM

Upon returning to the town, Davros voices the same concerns as Bralin.

"Some of the prisoners are held easily enough. Even the druid's powers can be countered. But what of the dragonlady? Normal bonds will not stop her acid breath or her spells."

DM Kathy
Wednesday April 4th, 2007 12:59:22 AM

As you move into the village, you can see in the light of day how much damage was done in the pre-dawn attack. One building is a total loss, and the elves are even now working to pull down the blackened skeleton. A few more buildings have sustained damage, and you can see the builders conferring about what is to be done with them. Measured against the overall size of the growing village, the losses are small, yet you know how much time and energy, how much thought and hope and sweat, went into each of the buildings.

Tahlela and Sivaine soon come to greet you, and discuss what is to be done with the prisoners. Firon is busy with the builders.

"The ones from this morning are housed there," Sivaine says, pointing to a partly-damaged building. "I suppose we can place these others there, too, and put a watch over them."

"I can spare a guard detail," Tahlela says, "now that the adventurers are back." She smiles at you. "Still, that is a temporary measure at best. We need to decide what is to be done with them."

"And who is this?" Sivaine asks, catching sight of Maglant. She smiles a little. "I remember watching you leave, and I'm fairly certain none of you was a minotaur. What happened?"

The druid is now reasonably alert, but not terribly talkative. The dragon sorcerer and the human rogue are beginning to stir.

Meanwhile, Any feels the need to be alone with his thoughts and wanders away for a time. Florin, who apparantly didn't get enouh exercise from two pitched battles with a march in between, proposes a wrestling match with Maglant.

Lorth
Wednesday April 4th, 2007 8:12:27 AM

Lorth greats Tahlela and Sivaine and says,
"One of the captives said something about the dragon lady trying to get back into Parnoth's good graces. Perhaps she was working on her own initiative when she ordered the attack on the town. It seems unlikely that Parnoth would want to start an all out war with this area. I think he should be informed of what his operatives are doing in this area and perhaps it will stop. At a minimum we should inform Remo Treadlefoot, so he can use it to his diplomatic advantage."
He leaves it at that and retires to where he usually sleeps. He goes about finding a quill and paper if possible and writes a quick missive to Remo, explaining what he said above. Lorth plans to send it out with the next messenger, and will do so as soon as possible.

Walking out around the perimeter of the camp, Any's thoughts keep coming to a dead end.

What should this group be doing, if anything?

Although his thoughts are roiling, Any's actions reflect the concern he still has, as he searches for any new threats to the little village. The routine of guarding helps to settle him, and when his self-appointed shift is over, he returns to the camp.

He settles himself near the fire after retrieving his lute, and begins to strum, then sing lightly to the night.

"I will stand watch over them until they send a group to deal with them."

Harvest
Wednesday April 4th, 2007 12:13:46 PM

"My name is Harvest Moon. If you wish to speak, or to have company," she says to the druid girl, "ask for me and I will come."

Then giving the care of the prisoners up to the elves, Harvest goes off in the direction in which she had last seen Anthos wander. She raises a hand to shade her eyes, taking in the perimeter of the camp. He is there. Searching the forest, bow in hand. There is a way in his walk. It speaks of contemplation. Harvest Moon returns to the town and busies herself with the camp and gear until he returns. Each thing within her haversack she removes and lays upon the ground in neat rows. Each thing she judges carefully before replacing lest there be an excess or the want of a thing.

When Anthos returns, she seats herself at his side. The notes from his lute cover her in their colors. At last, though, she speaks.

"Have you ever thought to leave, Anthos?" she asks. "You and I? To travel the roads together?"

Any 2nd post
Wednesday April 4th, 2007 1:19:19 PM

"I have thought of that, and other things my love, but then I think of the friendships that we have here, of the trust that this group has placed in each of it's members. We have accomplished so much together, with one person's strengths making up for anothers weakness. Even were we to leave this group, and go out on our own, I think we would in time join another such. It seems to be the way the gods have ordered things to be.

On your own, you find it hard to stand. I know. I was alone when my mother died. I was alone when my master died. I traveled alone for several years before meeting you and the others. You have shown me what I was missing. You have also shown me that there is more to the Wold than just surviving-existing-being from day to day.

Truly, I cannot think of a more pleasurable thing to contemplate than traveling with you, and seeing the Wold through your eyes, but the feelings that I have had lately lead me to believe that we have a greater destiny than that.

Maybe I make too much of this, but it has been on my mind. For now, I am content to be with you, wherever you are. I am content to fight for those who cannot, and to use my skills--such as they are--to make the Wold better. It is enough--for now."

He sets aside his Lute, and gathers Harvest into his arms, just watching the fire and the stars.

Davros
Wednesday April 4th, 2007 3:41:54 PM

Davros notices the stirring prisoners and waits nearby to make sure they continue to behave.

Speaking with Tahlela, Davros voices his agreement with the others. "I believe Lorth and Bralin have stated our immediate plans for the prisoners well. Beyond that, we need more information and there is only one way to get it. Does anyone want to question the prisoners?"

"Also, I don't believe anyone has mentioned the half-elf Pelwyn. Is he to be kept with the prisoners or left free?"

"The tall fellow there is Malgant. He was a prisoner of these raiders and we freed him. He seems a noble sort and the paladins vouch for him."

Arminas
Wednesday April 4th, 2007 4:13:14 PM

Arminas watches and listens. Everyone it seems has a different idea about the prisoners and what to do with them. Lorth again mentions Parnoth.

Arminas spits, and says:

"There is nothing that his minions do that Parnoth does not order. Why do you insist in seeing good in one so evil? The only reason this town is here is that Parnoth is enslaving the elves, and claiming the Culverwood as his own. We ourselves were enslaved, or don't you remember?"

Looking around, he points at the elves about him:

"These are refugees from Parnoth's evil rule. He cares nothing for them, or for your sense of goodness. Voice concern to him, and he will use it as a weakness against you. Davros is right, questions these prisoners and find out what they know. They attacked and killed innocents, they are all guilty of murder. The elves have a town council. Call the elders together and have a trial, and then carry out judgement. It is lawful, and it is necessary. We don't have the means to guard prisoners for a long time."

Malgant
Wednesday April 4th, 2007 7:40:57 PM

Malgant is overwhelmed with pride at being asked to spar with an actual Protector, and almost immediately says yes. Then the town elders step forward and remind him he still has duties to perform before he can practice. Turning to these elders he bows before them. " My name is Malgant, and I have traveled far from my home. As Davros mentioned I was assaulted when I approached the camp of these people and given a choice of surrender or death. When I surrendered I was beaten senseless and made a prisoner. I do not know what fate they had in store for me but these fine adventurers set me free and have graciously allowed me to travel with them. I would ask your leave to be allowed to stay among you while my new friends stay and offer my skills as a priest of Domi to help with any sick or wounded you may have from this attack I keep hearing about. I may also be able to help you rebuild some, though I have litle skill in building I am able bodied and willing to help out if you need it. As I mentioned I have traveled a bit away from home and wander if I might inquire as to who's authority this land falls under and whose justice system I would report the assault on my person to so that I may let the law deal with these brigands and not just have vigilante justice dealt to them?"

Malgant answers any questions that the elders may have for him and when the business is concluded he turns to Florin to talk about sparring." I would be most honored to spend time sparing or wrestling with a Protector of Domi. As to your questions about my teachers, most of them were the Paladins and monks of the Heart of Imod, the church of Domi in my land. Once during the time that I sudied there did a Protector stop by and teach the priests for a few weeks. He asked us all one day to show us what we had learned so far and attack him. Though there were more than a dozen of us he wanted both to see how far we had progressed and to show us what is possible as a protector . We all rushed him and as we came near him he raised his hands and a wall of stone rose before him, narrowing the approaches to him down and making us come to him one or two at a time only. This made it easy for him to single out each student and gauge them individually. It also forced us to use the tactics that we had been taught rather than a blind charge. That was truly a great day. I think I learned more in that one day of lessons than I had learned in most of my study . Or perhaps I was forced to USE all that my years of study had taught me that day. As to your question of have I ever used a greatsword," Malgant reaches over his right shoulder and draws forth his greatsword. "I am seldom without one. My prayer kata each morning takes me through the stances taught by my teachers and clears my mind so that I am better able to understand what the day has in store for me and in that way better know what powers I should pray to Domi for that day." Malgant walks with Florin ( if all of the questions about settling the prisoners in are finished, if not he waits until all is settled) to a field outside the town and as he does he sizes up the paladin. He looks strong, despite his being an elf. Stronger than me. Nimble too. This will be a test. I need to use the advantages given to me to win out in this. Thankfully it is not real combat.

OOC
How many, if any zero level spells did I use to fix the concussion?
Do you want Florin and I to roll out a few rounds of combat of just roleplay it? If we are rolling are we using the minuses for striking to subdue or are we just pulling the blows so as not to harm each other? Either way you can bet I will be using my reach to stay as far from Florin's blade as possible. AoO FTW!

Harvest
Wednesday April 4th, 2007 9:45:52 PM

It is often a mystery, thinks Harvest Moon, even as she sinks into his arms, a mystery as to why one such as Anthos could be attracted to such a small and funny looking girl such as she. Still, to his words, she nods her ascent, and then turns to lay her cheek upon the sheltering strength of his shoulder.

Florin Jadenth
Wednesday April 4th, 2007 11:18:51 PM

Florin enjoys his workout with Malgant no matter the out come. Florin also listens to what the new member of the group has to say in reply to Florin's words.

After the practice Florin pulls Glimmer and holds it up, "This is what I'm truely the best at useing. It is my most loyal friend besides those I travel with." Florin holds the weapon out to Malgant to look at if he wishes. Glimmer is a mithril longsword, the blade has high Woldian runes written on it that spell out it's name, these also glow faintly. The handle is designed to look like a dragon and is silver, the guard shaped to look like the dragon's wings and the dragon's eyes are made with small rubys. Florin smiles and when the weapon is handed back he speaks a simple word and the blade lights up with crackling electricity, "It took some work to figure the design and some work also to get the gold but it was worth it for such a fine weapon to use in Domi's name."

After the practice Florin will go some place private to bath and change before seeing to his guard duty and the prisoners to make sure everything is well there. When all this is done he finally beds down for the night, quite tired but happy with the hard days work. (This also pending what Kathy throws at us :) .)

Lily
Thursday April 5th, 2007 12:06:08 AM

Whilst internalising what she has learned of her new companions Lily looks for something to do.

At the least she takes some time to bathe and wash her clothes, to eat, and hopefully, to find some company. Someone talkative and mirthful.

DM Kathy
Thursday April 5th, 2007 12:57:13 AM

Upon your arrival, Lorth pens a quick missive to Remo Treadlefoot, asking the emissary to look into the question of whether Parnoth was behind the attacks. Finding a messenger to carry it will be more challenging, though. None of the elves will risk setting foot in Parnoth's domain. A human messenger might do, but you would need to find one in one of the human settlements.

Any continues to reflect on past events and the group's role in the Wold. Heavy thoughts indeed. Harvest joins him when he seems ready for company.

Florin and Maglant have their sparring match, with several of the elves pausing in their labors to cheer them on. The two warriors find that Maglant is stronger, and has a longer reach, but that Florin is a trifle more skilled. It makes for an excellent combat. [You two can make a few attack rolls if you really want to. :) I'll assume you're going for non-lethal (subdual) damage.]

Lily looks for some talkative, mirthful company. She doesn't have to look far. The elves are in good spirits since your return, and several of them are perfectly willing to join the halfling in drinking, swapping jokes, telling stories, and sharing music.

Bralin suggests sending to Jarlwolf for adjudication of the prisoners, but Arminas disagrees. As it turns out, the elders share Arminas's opinion, if not all of his vehemence.

"The whole point of this," Tahlela gestures to include the town being built, "is to enable us to look after ourselves. Administering justice is part of that. We should not give that responsibility--or that right--to others."

"Yes, we need to settle this ourselves," Sivaine says. Firon, just returning from the builders, agrees.

Davros suggests questioning the prisoners.

"I think that is an excellent suggestion," Firon says. "Tahlela, if you would join me?" He turns to the rest of you. "You are welcome to come as well. You were witnesses to both attacks, after all, and have the best information with which to confront these....people." He begins heading toward the building where the prisoners are housed.

Lorth
Thursday April 5th, 2007 7:54:34 AM

After hearing Arminas voice his opinion, Lorth states,
"Arminas my friend. Be careful where you bury that hate, lest you become what you despise the most."

In the morning Lorth packs up his belongings. He has decided that he will travel to Jarlswolf on his own to deliver his message to the pitchfork council, no doubt they have someone who can deliver it to Remo.

Lorth greets his friends in the morning, "I will be gone a few days.", he says. "I must travel to Jarlwolf, with a missive, then I will return."

After breakfast Lorth summons Tobiasz and sets out on the road.

(OOC: Let me know when Lorth returns and I will start posting again.)

Come the morning, all things seem a little brighter. Now rested, Any says no more of the internal debate that he has been having. He rises refreshed, and moves about the camp listening to the various conversations. When he comes upon Lorth preparing to leave, he stops to talk with the Paladin.

"Friend Lorth, the elders of the village are set upon trying our prisoners themselves. Depending on the outcome of that trial, you may not even have a baragining chip for Parnoth. Why don't you wait to see the results of that trial, and discuss this with them before you leave. If they find the Parnothian guilty, and pass a sentence of death, your message will be meaningless."

He will accompany the elders to question the prisoners, interested in what questions they will ask, and what answers will be given.

Bralin (Sub/Al)
Thursday April 5th, 2007 10:44:37 AM

"This land was given to the elves by the Pitchfork Council." Bralin states what is clear and a matter of fact. "In the giving, they also give sovereignty over the land."

"I will abide by the decision of their Council," he states.

Harvest
Thursday April 5th, 2007 10:55:33 AM

Harvest Moon stands by Anthos' side and nods at the wisdom spoken by Bralin Stoneminder. Ever has it been this way, and ever has it been the conundrum that the Law should shift from place to place presenting within its framwork a chaos all its own.

Arminas
Thursday April 5th, 2007 11:29:57 AM

Arminas admires Tahlela's wisdom and sense of duty. Elves have long governed themselves, much longer than man has even been around. It seems strange to him that such a young society would think they bear more wisdom in judgement than the elves.

"You are a good and wise leader Tahlela. I will help guard the prisoners and bear witness against them."

Since Arminas will bear witness against the prisoners, he goes over in his mind the events of the day.

As he contemplates, Lorth speaks to him about his growing hate. A look of concern comes over him.

"Perhaps you are right. Much has happened of late, and I find myself trusting less and hating more. I will have to think upon your words. Yet what Tahlela says is true, it is their right and responsibility to give judgement in this matter. A trial will take place, and even those who seem guilty beyond doubt should have someone speak on their behalf. You live for justice, will you not stay and see that justice is done?"

Arminas then goes and helps watch over the prisoners, his bow always at the ready.

Davros
Thursday April 5th, 2007 6:41:35 PM

"I agree with the intent of what Arminas has spoken. But we must be cautious. To be considered a lawful society, we cannot stoop to the levels that these raiders have."

"Also, we are not the law here. We are sworn protectors of this town, and as such we serve the elven council. I will testify to what I have seen, and been subjected to if needed. However, the final decision rests with the elders."

Davros travels with the elders to the prisoners to observe the questioning and to participate if needed.

Malgant
Thursday April 5th, 2007 7:40:00 PM

Winded and battered after their sparing maych, but feeling much beter for the activity Malgant cleans himself up and returns to the group o hear how the brigands are to be tried. He has brought his own charges to the eldes of assault and confinemen, he is interested to hear what other charges ae leveled against these brigands. As he walks through the village he takes stock of the work that needs to be done repairing the buildings from the attack that his companions have mentioned, trying to see where he may best lend a hand in the rebuilding. It does occur to him that the Elders said nothing in response to his queary about who's law the town was under or what the proper procedure is for acusing one of a crime, but he keeps this to himself. They have had alot to do since we returned, they don't have time to answer every newcomer's questions.

Florin Jadenth
Thursday April 5th, 2007 10:38:39 PM

After the spar and cleaning up, hopfully getting just abit of rest also, Florin moves to join the group and listens to what is going on before shrugging. He doubts it will take all of the group to give what happened but it might still be good to be there also.

Florin does hope Lorth will stay for the trial also since he owuld hate to see his friend travel alone anywhere with all the attacks thats been going on.

Florin also takes time to mve over to Malgant and speaks to him, "You are one strong guy Malgant and I see where we are going to be good friends. I do have a drink now and then. It would be a honor if you would join me for a drink later. Friendly too, no contest. Anyway, you should keep your wits about you at all times is what my teacher taught me." Florin smiles as he wouldn't begin to try to drink the taur out, not to mention a couple drinks are okay but boozing of that nature would be seriously against his code.

DM Kathy
Friday April 6th, 2007 1:23:27 AM

The elders move quickly in rousing and questioning the prisoners. Those of you who choose to be present can hear what they say.

Pelwyn, the half-elf, says much the same to the elves as he said to you. He is an adventurer, and was down on his luck when the possiblity of a lucrative job came his way. He's now sorry he took it. Whether he's sorry enough to make amends is still an open question.

The human rogue, when questioned, is evasive, trying to pin the blame on others. "I got no quarrel with any of you," he keeps insisting. Unlike Pelwyn, he doesn't seem to have a clear story about how he came to be involved with the group in the first place. "I throw in my lot with folks as seem best able to do me some good," is the most he says on the subject. Like Pelwyn, he says that the dragon sorceress was in charge.

The human druid, now recovered, doesn't have much to say for herself. "It is natural law that the strong survive and the weak perish," she says at one point. "I intend to be on the winning side."

The human fighter's testimony consists largely of threats, delivered with his uniquely colorful vocabulary. He doesn't divulge his goals, or why he was with the group, but apparantly has several inventive plans for a chisel and some alchemist's fire.

The elders take precautions when questioning the half-dragon, but question her they do. She, too, speaks little more than threats, although her vocabulary is considerably better than the human fighters. "One day my glorious master will seize control of all these lands," she sneers. "You will grovel for mercy at my feet, and I shall show you none!" Pressed, she admits that she is "temporarily" out of favor with Parnoth, but that one day she will find a way to win back his good opinion of her. According to her, Parnoth knew nothing of her plans.

As the questioning wraps up, Sivaine turns to those of you who are present. "Have you any further questions to put to the prisoners?" she asks. "Any further evidence to give?"

Lily
Friday April 6th, 2007 4:38:32 AM

Lily, whilst she enjoys the games that are generally labelled as 'diplomacy' has little to add to this particular band.

"At the very least they are each criminals. Whether there is a possibility for redemption is beyond me. I personally find few locks that can't be tampered with, even without my good tools, so I don't see the point in locking them up. The other option is, however, rather final. I am curious to see what decision the elves make."

Lorth
Friday April 6th, 2007 7:58:01 AM

Lorth listens to his friend Any, then replies,

"I believe it does not matter what the outcome of this trial is. I myself see the dragon lady as guilty, she after all did admit to ordering the attacks. I would just like Parnoth to know that his underlings are agitating a border war here without his knowledge. I beleive a being with his ego and world view would be quite upset his underlings did something without his knowledge. Perhaps he will reign them in. However I will not be telling him directly, but Remo, who as we know is the pitchfork's diplomat to Parnoth. I am positve if this info can be used for our advantage, Remo will do so."

"Although I will wait until after the trial to depart as you and Florin have requested. But then I will go."

Lorth dismounts and joins the questioning.

Arminas
Friday April 6th, 2007 11:08:02 AM

Arminas stands when invited to give further evidence,

"The dragon spawn I believe was in charge, as she stated. However, my testimony is against the druid girl. We followed a trail to a false camp, I then found a faint and hidden trail to the camp where we encountered these people. The Culverwood itself helped us, hiding sounds even from the dwarf's steps and moving branches to help me find the trail. When I found the clearing I knew why the Culverwood offered help. This druid.."

Arminas points at the girl with an accusing look.

"this druid allowed the ancient trees to be cut in a savage way. She allowed the Culverwood to be defiled. She has cut her bonds with Nature and forsaken her vows. She is a danger to all, for once free she will do more damage and cause more deaths. The dragon woman does what is her nature, which is evil and must be stopped. The druid goes against her nature. Her choice was deliberate and evil. She herself stated "It is natural law that the strong survive and the weak perish". Let her live and die by her own decree."

Arminas then sits and waits.

Harvest  d20+14=30
Friday April 6th, 2007 1:09:53 PM

Harvest steps forward as the elder elf opens the floor for further questions. To each of the prisoners she puts the same question. Each prisoner she watches carefully. Within her breast burns the flame of hope.

"Do you promise from now on to forego Evil and pursue only acts of good and charity to the best of your ability?"

(Sense Motive 30)

Bralin (Sub/Al)
Friday April 6th, 2007 1:15:53 PM

The elves have the process of justice well in hand. What surer sign can there be that they have come into their own as a town? Bralin bears silent witness to the trial. Soon it would be time to leave.

Any
Friday April 6th, 2007 1:38:49 PM

"I can testify to this much. These people attacked us without provocation, and in spite of the fact that Harvest was making overtures of friendship to them. They have admitted to being responsible for sending the group against us in the night, and the draconian has no regrets for her actions, and would do the same again if released. You good elves must decide their fate, for it is you they have wronged."

Having said this, Any will retreat to the back of the crowd to await the decision.

Davros
Friday April 6th, 2007 8:46:03 PM

"I have a few." Davros strokes the stubble on his chin while he contemplates the phrasing of his questions.

"What were your plans if we had not interrupted you? You attacked the town twice already, but you say Parnoth had no knowledge of you actions."

Why did you orchestrate these attacks in the first place? This town cannot possibly hold any strategic importance."

It is obvious you have been recruiting. Do you have any other recruits? Any others hiding in the Culverwood?"

"What will you do if you are released?"

Davros waits for the replies to these and all the other questions posed to the raiders.

Florin Jadenth
Friday April 6th, 2007 11:14:00 PM

Florin listens to what is said and done during the questioning but otherwise stay silent. He figures the elves will go alittle easier on the ranger type of the group since he does seem more willing to amend his ways then the others he thinks but will wait and see. If things don't look good for the man he will speak up and comment on how the man helped with bringing the other prisoners back and how he didn't try to escape or nothing where the others in Florin's opinion would of tried if rhe chance appeared.

Malgant
Saturday April 7th, 2007 10:58:22 AM

Malgant wonders about Arminas testimony. Not about its validity or truth, Arminas has made it clear he was against the brigands from the start and his testimony shows that. What Malgant wonders is the ranger's questioning of natural selection in the druid's defense. From where the town sits natural selection is NOT in their best inerest and is therefore evil. In the scheme of the Wold though, the druid's defense is the most honest he has heard from any of the prisoners. By natural selection the strong prey on the weak, o less able to defend themselves. A lion preys on the antelope because if it does not eat it will die. If the antelope is faster that day then the antelope lives and the lion goes hungry. In this case the town is the antelope and the brigands the lion. This day the antelope ran into a pack of something that does not allow lions to eat antelope and managed to gain help. The druid wants to be on the winning side. Who doesn't? Malgant was not aware that the laws were so strict in this place. He thinks back to the time it took him to cross the wood and the small camps he made. He had no need to cut any wood, all that was needed for a smal fire to push back the night lay dead on the ground, dry and waiting for him. Had he chosen to cut wood would he be sitting next to these brigands in Arminas' eyes? Malgant wondered. After the others have given their testimony and it has not been brought up, Malgant rises to ask his own questions.

" Why did you capture and bind me, a traveler who approached your camp with open hands proclaiming my presence so that all could not help bu hear?"
"What plans did you have in mind for me once I was subdued?"
" I claim charges of assault and confinement against you. Do you deny them?"

DM Kathy
Sunday April 8th, 2007 11:52:52 PM

As members of your group speak, the elf elders listen thoughtfully, sometimes nodding in agreement, sometimes frowning with thoughts of their own. Some of you also have questions for the prisoners.

To Harvest, Pelwyn replies with a shaky laugh. "That's the plan," he says. Harvest senses that he is sincere in his desire to to good, but uncertain of his ability to stick to the course.

The human rogue replies, "Oh, yes. Absolutely. I have been awakened to the error of my ways and will never stray again." Harvest can tell he's lying.

The druid sneers. "Good? What is good? "Good" and "evil" are artificial constructs, created by the so-called "civilized" races in a pathetic and futile attempt to regulate natural instinct. I shall do as my nature and my instincts bid me. If you choose to call this "evil", that is your concern." For what it's worth, Harvest doesn't believe she is lying.

The human fighter promises to yank out Harvest's spine and strangle her with it. Not really an answer to the question, but there is no attempt at deception.

The sorceress's answer is similar to the druid's. "I shall serve my master to my dying breath. You pathetic slaves choose to call this "evil," but you are only jealous that you lack his might and his favor. I will not bow to weaklings." Again, Harvest senses sincerity.

Davros has some questions of his own. The other raiders do not know why the town was targeted specifically. They say that the dragon woman promised them power, riches, and a place in Parnoth's regime if they helped her. She chose the target.

"Isn't it obvious?" she says when questioned. "These upstarts dared to build their filthy town on land that once belonged to the Culverwood! The discovery of the underground chamber proved as much! They are interlopers, and have no place in my master's domain. So I took it upon myself to root them out." She also claims to have many supporters, but refuses to say how many, or where the others are.

"If I'm released I will stay here," Pelwyn says. "Or go where you bid me. I will work to try to make amends. I will try to become an adventurer once more, and this time strive to do good instead of simply chasing coin."

"Yes. Me too," says the human rogue.

"I will return to the forest and put these petty squabbles behind me," says the druid. "None of you are strong enough to survive; you are not worthy to be my allies. I will take myself off and wait for more powerful friends."

The human fighter promises to kill you all in various colorful ways. The dragon woman vows to go on serving her master.

Maglant asks about his treatment.

"I refute your charges," says the human rogue. "I had no part in your capture." [Thinking back, you realize he was right. He was not among the ones who captured you.]

Pelwyn and the druid both say they captured Maglant because the dragon lady told them to. They do not know what her plans for him were.

Neither the sorceress nor the human fighter answer Maglant's questions. "All that I have done, I have done for my master, though he does not know of it," is all the answer that the dragon woman gives.

Firon turns to you. "Have you anything else to say?" he asks. "Any more questions to ask?"

Lorth
Monday April 9th, 2007 7:37:00 AM

Lorth has no questions for the prisoners.
Quietly as not to disturb the proceeding Lorth says to Arminas...
"For once Arminas I agree with you, I think this druid here is the most destructive creature I've ever met. I think it would be very difficult to be anymore self serving or evil than that one. Even the dragon lady is better in my book."

Harvest
Monday April 9th, 2007 9:35:24 AM

"They are all honest and forthright with their position," announces Harvest Moon. "Except for that one. She looks to the rogue and points a finger, her pale hand peeking from the cuff of her sleeve. "To my ears, he speaks his words without sincerity."

With that, she withdraws. Returning to Anthos, she comes around one side of him, circles behind, and then takes a place upon the other side. In silence she stands, awaiting the judgement.

Any
Monday April 9th, 2007 10:09:13 AM

"I have said my part. Let Judgement be passed."

Any takes Harvest's hand, for just the moment it takes to give it a squeeze, and then awaits the courts decision.

Arminas
Monday April 9th, 2007 10:57:28 AM

Arminas sits quietly, he has has his say and will await judgement. Upon Lorth's comments, Arminas turns to him and quietly says:

"Thanks friend, perhaps we are more alike than I have been willing to admit."

Bralin
Monday April 9th, 2007 2:39:22 PM

Bralin stands patiently, and without movement. The fate of the prisoners lies in the hands of the authorities, and the dwarf has seen no prior cause to debate the wisdom of their decisions.

There are questions that has not yet been asked, which bear on the future security of the the village.

"Are ye responsible for the attack of the Dire Bear on this village some weeks ago?"

"Are there others in yon Wood preparing to attack?"

Malgant
Monday April 9th, 2007 7:18:34 PM

At the elder's question Malgant shakes his huge head in negation. He has no other questions for the prisoners. Most of them are forthright in their answers, except for the skinny one. Malgant hears Harvest's words and adds a comment so that the elders have all of the facts. " The one Harvest indicated was not one of those who assaulted me. In that at least he speaks the truth."

Lily the Harlequin
Monday April 9th, 2007 8:11:14 PM

The halfling stands quietly to watch the proceedings. Despite her skills in speaking and negotiating Lily is content to watch and learn.

She has nothing to add that hasn't already been said, til Bralin speaks. Quietly she walks over to Florin, who has also been quiet and asks, "What's this about a Dire Bear? Was there another attack? How long ago? How did it go?"

Florin Jadenth (subbed by Robert)
Monday April 9th, 2007 8:12:53 PM

"There was another small group, Lily, that attacked a day or two before you arrived. The group included another druid, whose companion was a Dire Bear. There was another druid and some fighters, too. We defeated them after a battle."

Florin chooses to state these things succinctly, partially to avoid disrupting the trial, partially to avoid bringing up certain issues.

Davros
Monday April 9th, 2007 8:12:55 PM

Davros turns to the elders. "Firon, Sivaine and all the elders of this town...this land is yours to rule now and the Swords of Light stand ready to support you and to carry out any sentence you may decide upon for these prisoners."

Lily
Monday April 9th, 2007 8:26:18 PM

Lily beams with a smile, sensing that Davros has included her in the label, "The Swords of Light".

DM Kathy
Tuesday April 10th, 2007 12:33:27 AM

The last few questions are asked of the prisoners. The druid admits to having a hand in the Dire Bear attack, and Pelwyn says that the dragon woman also planned the earlier raid, although she did not take part in it.

Pelwyn says he does not believe there are other followers out there. The other prisoners refuse to answer the question.

After the questioning wraps up, the three elders retire to confer for a bit. Their discussion goes on for quite some time.

At last, the three come back to where the prisoners are still being kept under guard.

"We have discussed your crimes and are ready to pass sentence," says Sivaine gravely.

A grim-faced Tahlela continues. "The sorcerer and the human fighter have shown themselves to be brutal and thoroughly evil," she says. "They show no remorse for their actions, and no consciousness of the harm they have done to others. Indeed, they have openly stated intentions to do further harm if released. We see no possibility of reformation in either of them, and they are too dangerous to be allowed to live. Their sentence is therefore death, to be carried out at midnight tonight."

Firon speaks next. "The human rogue has attempted to lie his way out of trouble, but in that venal act is a glimmer of hope. He has demonstrated that he is adaptable and quick to learn, like many of his kind. Unfortunately, he seems to have learned only that which serves his own interests. Yet we have a mind to see if he can be taught something more benefecial. He is therefore sentenced to close confinement until such time as the elders feel comfortable in releasing him. Humans, alas, have very short lifespans, and it is probably that he will learn his lesson too late. Still, we would attempt to teach it."

Sivaine speaks again. "The adventurer known as Pelwyn has expressed remorse for his actions and a desire to make amends. We hereby accept his offer. He is not to leave the confines of the town unescorted, and he must agree to obey the orders of the town elders. Under these conditions, he is free to work and learn by our side." She gives him a stern look. "We hope he benefits from this second chance."

Tahlela finishes. "The case of the human druid is a complex one. We were unable to come to a conclusion about her case, save this: we will await the return of Gryntym the Greenmage, and take council with him about what is to be done. It is fitting, since her crimes are not only against us, but also against the Culverwood itself."

She looks around. "Thus is our judgement. Each one who spoke here, spoke for us all." She nods to the guards, who lead the prisoners back toward their temporary jail.

Lily
Tuesday April 10th, 2007 2:51:40 AM

The halfling listens intently to elder elves, hoping to glean some wisdom from this ancient race. She agrees with the sentencing when it is pronounced.

When the prisoners are led away she says to any one who cares to respond,
"Just. Fair. Generous even. I would not have come to the same conclusion, I think, because I am not as patient as the elves. Its not a strong trait in my family. I could something, a lot I would guess, if I spent more time here with these elves. I wonder what tomorrow will bring. Perhaps just that, perhaps more blisters for our feet.
"Who wants a drink? It's a little gloomy perhaps, but I think this deserves a little celebration."

With a brief thought, Lily's hat dimly glows for a second or two, then her entire outfit changes to a bright red cotton dress, cut low at the front and back, with a short dark blue jacket to keep her shoulders warm. The halfling carries her sword belt in arms, "I've just got to drop these off in my tent."

Lorth
Tuesday April 10th, 2007 7:54:23 AM

Lorth doesn't care for the judgment of the druid. She is the worst kind of evil, self serving. Although he says nothing.

If it isn't to late in the day Lorth bids his friends goodbye and takes to the road. He will have his message to Jarlswolf as soon as he can.

If it is late in the day Lorth will wait till morning to start his trip. But he makes it plain to his friends that he still plans to go.

Any
Tuesday April 10th, 2007 9:52:52 AM

A sound judgement. Any is grateful he did not have to make it. As he leaves with Harvest he says,

"And what now for us? How long will we remain here? These people have now settled in to their own guard routine. They have tried criminals. How long do we remain here? Their town is nearing completeion--or would be without the damage done by the attacks. Do we wait for the buildings to all be finished, or just for the damge to be repaired?

I like it here, but I'm not sure we should stay beyond our need. Maybe we should talk this over with the village elders too. No set time limit was given for when we would no longer be needed. Maybe we need to set that time, and maybe we need to meet as a group to make this decision. What do you think my Love?"

He settles with Harvest onto a nearby log to hear her thoughts.

Harvest
Tuesday April 10th, 2007 11:04:38 AM

"We are pledged to remain and protect the town until the elves have founded themselves." Harvest folds her hands in her lap. "It seems to me that many things in life are born and must be nurtured until they can stand on their own. When it is that they can stand may be different depending upon who's eyes one sees through."

"I am leaving now, Harvest. You have wisdom and strength, and it is time that you learned to trust in them ...

Harvest Moon looks up to the realization of her own lapse into silence.

"Perhaps we should speak with the Elders, Anthos. They have shown wisdom today. Perhaps it would be best to ask them if they still require our protection or not."

Bralin
Tuesday April 10th, 2007 11:49:18 AM

The dwarf listens stoically to the council. The have asserted their rightful authority. He takes care to memorize their reasoning. It may prove useful in future encounters.

Bralin raises an eyebrow at Lorth's intention to return to Jarlwolf. But, the paladin appears adamant, and the dwarf has no real reason to gainsay him.

He does not hear Any's question to Harvest. Even if he had, its not directed at him.

Lily's question is meant for all, and Bralin finds he could use an ale or three.
"I will join you," he answers.

Arminas
Tuesday April 10th, 2007 3:16:00 PM

When the trial and sentencing is over, Arminas rises and goes out with the rest. Upon Lily's invitation, Arminas says:

"Yes, I could use something to relax my spirit. It has been a difficult time, realizing that Parnoth's reach is this far. I have also lost faith in druids, they are supposed to protect this land. I don't know who to have faith in anymore, perhaps there is no one."

Malgant
Tuesday April 10th, 2007 6:57:50 PM

" I would join you as well, I understand that the elves make some very interesting wines, though a new community may not have any on hand." As they all decide to stay or go, Malgant hears Arminas's statement of his loss of faith and this time asks the man why he is so downhearted.
" Arminas, why do you despair. Not all people can be good of heart. Looking at the people you surround yourself with I would think it would be very difficult to find others who measure up to your current companions. This group that you surround yourself with all seem to be the cream of the crop in thier chosen skills. More than that they each seem to care for you and for one another. I have no doubt that you would find the people that you find opposing you o be lacking. Many of you seem disgusted by the druid and her words. I actually found her to be the most truthful among the prisoners. If she truly believes in natural selection then she has just chosen a callous and uncaring way to persue it. She would rather go the path of hunter and prey than the path of nurture and improve. That is her problem, not yours. Her prey was smart enough to ask for help from you and your companions. THAT makes how she chooses to conduct her life your problem. She has been thwarted, and now her fate is in the hands of the village elders."
Malgant also weighs in on the moving on part of the conversation. " If the Elders would like I would like to add my hand to their defenses as well. Perhaps set up an exercise regimine and help them set watch shedules and the like."

Davros
Tuesday April 10th, 2007 10:30:59 PM

Davros nods his head in agreement with the sentencing.

He speaks to the elders, "You are indeed very wise. I could not have made any better decision myself. I would suggest that the guards be extremely vigilant. Now that they know their fate, they may decide to act upon it."

"I thank you friends for inviting me along for a drink. But I feel I must decline. A very serious decision was made today to put some of these criminals to death. As a lawful society, I believe we reserve the right to defend ourselves from such as these, but the decision must never be made lightly or without careful consideration. I agree with the elves sentence, but I need some time alone. Between the close call I had with death and the heavy burden of this sentence, I need to spend some time in quiet contemplation."

Davros goes to his resting area and spends the evening with a light meal and his face buried in a book by candlelight. He retrieves a small diary from his belongings. It has silver decorations and the High Woldian symbol for memory on the cover. A gift from Florin. He writes out his feelings and memories of these events into the journal. Sometimes writing things out helps you to better understand them.

Florin Jadenth (subbed by Robert)
Wednesday April 11th, 2007 12:05:26 AM

"You make some interesting observations there, friend Malgant, about the druid. Perhaps the minotaurs view these things a differently to humans, elves and dwarves. Will you join us for some 'refreshments', Malgant?

"Tomorrow, I think we should approach the council to see how we can best serve this new town. For tonight I need to relax."

DM Kathy
Wednesday April 11th, 2007 12:32:35 AM

The elders listen gravely as Davros speaks. "We are glad you approve," says Sivaine solemnly. But is that a hint of amusement in her voice? And are the other two hiding smiles?

Lily issues an invitation for general merriment, which Bralin and Malgant gladly accept. Davros seems to want some time by himself, and Any and Harvest have matters to discuss between themselves.

Lorth departs on his delayed errand, traveling to Jarlwolf in the cool dusk. He arrives as the townsfolk are finishing their suppers and enjoying a quiet--or lively--hour or two before bed. He finds someone willing to carry a message to Remo Treadlefoot, although the service does not come cheap (20 gold). He then must decide whether to spend the night in Jarlwolf or to try to return to Windtree that same night.

In Windtree, those seeking to make merry have rather a difficult time of it. All of the elves are fully aware that two of the prisoners die in a matter of hours, and, though they tend to agree that the prisoners deserve their fate, it does have a sobering effect. As the sun sets, Tahlela's hunters draw lots to see who will perform the executions.

Any

Any seeks out each of his companions,

"I am not seeking anyone's blood, or any kind of retribution, but I feel we should attend the execution. We have born our witness, now we should see the sentence carried out. Afterwards, we should ask to converse with the village elders. We must decide how long our task here will be, and when they think they will be ready to take on this task without us. It's not that I am anxious to leave her, but I have felt lately that there are many other things that we should perhaps be doing --at least once we know this village is secure. Perhaps we can talk about it later as well, if you all agree."

Any then follows the procession to the execution site, and waits for the sentence to be carried out.

Bralin
Wednesday April 11th, 2007 11:46:00 AM

The dwarf isn't looking to make merry. He's just looking for a quiet drink or two. He keeps his numbers in moderation, having no more than three ales as he waits for Lily to start the conversation. Bralin has deduced the halfling is rarely at a loss for something to say, and he'd rather just go with it this time.

Any's question elicits a nod, and a quick "Aye".
The fighter will be in attendance in the morning. He also assents to putting his name in the lottery, should anyone ask.

Lorth
Wednesday April 11th, 2007 12:14:32 PM

Lorth pays the courier his fee and then decides to wait until morning to make his journey back to the elvish settlement.

Harvest
Wednesday April 11th, 2007 12:38:03 PM

"Death is in and of itself a lesson in the value of life. Do you understand what that means, Harvest?" Soon after christening her with the new name, Pasix had made it a point to use it often. "One would have little value without a knowledge of the other. There are many essential dichotomies upon which our values are based. And it is upon these values that we establish our Laws."

"These Laws create equilibrium. They allow us to go about our daily lives knowing what we might expect at any moment. This is very powerful, Harvest. Without it life would be filled with pain and mistrust for most people in the Wold. And there would be none of the great things that people have achieved as a civilization."

Pasix had looked down into the wide brown eyes of his adopted ward.

"Someday, you will understand, Harvest. Someday."

The memory comes back to Harvest Moon, as she stands at Anthos' side. The crackle of torchlight sounds overloud within this dark dead of night. This is a lesson to be learned indeed, and lessons can only be learned by the living.

Arminas
Wednesday April 11th, 2007 1:38:49 PM

Arminas has a single glass of wine, and sits in quiet contemplation. It is plain he did not come to drink, or even to start conversation. He is here as a sense of duty, of belonging to a group. He does respond to Malgant's earlier comments:

"I do not care if the druid is honest or not. She broke her vows. To protect the Wold at all cost and revere Nature is what should drive her. Breaking the laws created by society is not the issue, I would expect her to disregard them in favor of Nature. Instead it looks like she sided with winning above honor. She chose poorly, and should pay. It is she who said let the strong prevail and the weak perish. We have, and she should."

Arminas mood again darkens, thinking over the druids acts has counteracted the wines ability to lift his spirit.

Davros
Wednesday April 11th, 2007 3:29:44 PM

Davros' shares the mood expressed by most of the elves. Although at times he does not fully understand them. Were they amused by his comments or simply because he agreed? It doesn't matter. The executions are unfortunate but necessary. He will attend the event in the morning after preparing some new spells to memory.

Lily
Wednesday April 11th, 2007 6:14:18 PM

"Yes, Any. Good point. We should be there. I will join you for the execution."

With that sobering thought Lily just sips at her ale, "Got any stout?" and changes her red dress to a more conservative style in black.

"Bralin, what is it that draws you from your lands? For me it is prospect of wealth.

"I have too many siblings to live well from finding truffles, and some of them are making a fine legend for themselves in the greater Wold. I should send a letter to them. Actually, Julian can't read. Better to send it to... I have no idea, back home I suppose, and I'll have to hope he pops in someday."

Florin Jadenth / sub Robert
Wednesday April 11th, 2007 6:24:46 PM

Florin enjoys the ale to relax and sit with some friends. He agrees to attend the executions, and intends to be sober for the event.

"It is a dark day, any day, that people must die. No matter what the reason. No matter who they are. Still, I'd like to believe that, at the very least, this will serve as a deterrent for others."

Malgant
Wednesday April 11th, 2007 6:28:51 PM

Remembering that the execution is to take place at midnight, just a few hours hence Malgant is moderae in his consumption of wine. He finds the wine made by the elves(assuming that it is elven wine that the tavern offers) to be different from the wine of his people. It is quite good though. Malgant ponders the executions to be carried out and decides that even though they have dedicated themselves to evil and destruction. The prisoners should have a final prayer sai for their sould before they depart. He excuses himself from the gathering about an hour before the apointed time of the execution and peforms one of the more simple prayer sessions of his temple. The moves of the sword dance calm and center him, bringing him to a more hightened sense of being. His prayer to Domi is simple and to the point.
" Domi, I pray for the souls of those who shall be executed this night. I pray that you may lay a calming hand on their hearts and that they may bravely receive the sentence that has been handed down on them. Their actions show a callous disregard for others and a selfishness of spirit that marks them as cowards in the eyes of the church. I pray that you may show them the error of their ways so that they may at least face death with dignity."

DM Kathy
Thursday April 12th, 2007 12:43:07 AM

Lorth decides to spend the night in Jarlwolf. He passes a quiet evening there.

As midnight approaches in Windtree, Tahlela draws two names. Although some of you have cast your lots in as well, she ends up drawing the names of two of her hunters. The two men turn their attention to whetting their blades. "The villians deserve to die," one of them says, "but there's little point in drawing it out. I want to strike quick and clean."

Guards are called to bring the prisoners from their cells. The sorceress remains defiant, threatening retribution, claiming that Parnoth will avenge her death. She struggles a little as the final blow is struck, but her execution is as clean as can be expected.

The fighter, however, seems at last to have run out of bravado. He does not walk on his own, but must be hauled, weeping and cursing, by his laboring guards. He sobs and begs for mercy, but the elves do not stay his execution. His guards restrain him as best they can, but he is a big man, and stronger than usual in his desparation. His death is not clean, but at last it is accomplished.

The night is still.

Lorth
Thursday April 12th, 2007 8:42:32 AM

In the morning Lorth summons Tobiasz and heads back to the elven settlement.

Harvest
Thursday April 12th, 2007 9:30:55 AM

It is fit that they watch. There are lessons to be learned in death. And so Harvest Moon stands, her hand within Anthos', in silent observance of the execution.

But as the blades do their work and send their charges off to Gargul's place, the brown girl cannot help but be drawn from the sight of the execution to the faces of those who watch instead. What do they see? What feelings in them does this raise? What are the lessons they will come away with?

Even when all is done, Harvest remains quiet. Tomorrow will be a new day. With each new step the road changes, and with each change to the road come changes to one's self.

Bralin
Thursday April 12th, 2007 1:35:07 PM

The evening --

Bralin releases a small smile as Lily asks her question. The halfling is most inquisitive.

"Debts," he responds. "Debts and clan conflicts. I ran afoul of giants in the Red Hills and was tended by a Healer of Alemi. In payment of my debt to him, I pledged him my blade. The Healer bid me to Floating City, where Florin and I quested together. After a time, a messenger by the name of Wynn Brightsong summoned me back to my clan. He and I exchanged debts, which brought me hither. I have remained because I believe I am helping the folk of this valley, and because of the clan conflict which I spoke of earlier."

The dwarf obviously intends no elaboration on the conflict in question.
---

Execution - Bralin stands, stonefaced, while the sentence is carried out. Afterwards, he waits for Any to address the elven leaders.

Any
Thursday April 12th, 2007 1:44:03 PM

The execution carries forward. It is not something to look forward to, but something that must be done.

Afterwards, Any approaches the village elders.

"Honored sirs, we as a group wish to discuss our place here in your village. May we do so now, or can we arrange to do so tomorrow?"

He waits for their answer.

Arminas
Thursday April 12th, 2007 4:56:35 PM

Arminas watches the excution take place with a somber face.

"Perhaps it would be simpler if we fought those who attack us to the death. It is more noble to die in battle. I for one never wish to be taken as a captive again."

Arminas then goes out and climbs high into a tree. He sits by Ewan and meditates through the night, resting enough to restore his strength.

Florin Jadenth / sub Robert
Thursday April 12th, 2007 5:35:40 PM

Florin stands to watch the execution, flinching as the human struggles and makes a mess of things.

"Arminas, it is a difficult thing to live by, to attack all to the death. I hope to never be captured again, but perhaps I would rather surrender than be killed. Shouldn't we show that same mercy? Would we still kill the enemy who asked for his life?"

Lily
Thursday April 12th, 2007 5:56:30 PM

"Debts," in a sombre tone, "debts have provided me with some work. Usually stealing from nasty debt collectors, but making sure that they've got enough breath in them to tell their masters that the debt was paid.
"I was caught out once, in that I was celebrating a nice job when one of my regular scores started harassing a young family. They barely grew enough to eat, though Murtle still bet on anything with anyone who'd take a wager. I watched as Murtle took a beating. Pity eventually came over me and I attacked the debt collector, Ismith I think his name is. Trouble was I could attack Ismith all I wanted but he had no coin to take back to his master.
"When Ismith came to I asked how much Murtle owed. I did this in front of his wife and kids. He owed 50 gold, more than a years worth of coin. Murtle's wife, I never learned her name, just wept, leant on Murtle and wept with a babe in her arms. There was a little one, just walking, who hugged his leg.
"I paid the coin, ang gave Ismith another few to not return, and few more so that his master wouldn't take any wagers from Murtle. I tried to make it worth his while. I am fairly sure Ismith won't return, more through fear of pain than anything. His mater though, I don't know.
"I would like to check in on Murtle one day. Maybe I need to beat gambling out of him. I could use a good Muscle for that, Bralin," she says with a wink.

Lily joins the others wearing sombre browns and oranges. She cannot face the execution and shakes visibly as the human slowly goes to Gargal.

She returns directly to her tent, her face pale, and is not seen again till morning.

Malgant
Thursday April 12th, 2007 7:41:12 PM

Malgant arrives at the execution after his prayer session. watching the executions his placid features turn to a bit of a sad frown when first the Parnothian struggles and then the warrior all but breaks down and weeps all the way to the gallows. it would seem that Domi's hand has not touched either. He notices Lily. Her complexion and the way she shakes makes him want to stand next to her and at least give her a leg to lean on should she feel faint. He shifts his position enough that she could step back to lean on him should she want, but he stays out of her "space" should she wish to be left alone. It does not seem to be weakness that makes her tremble, rather it looks to him to be compassion. Either way he does not know her, really any of his new friends to attempt to offer them comfort without seeming to intrude on their privacy. When the execution ends and Anthos steps forward to speak to the elders, Malgant stays to listen, hoping that the invitation to join their band had been more than a short alliance to reach the village. He hopes that the invitation is for a longer term.

OOC
How many damaged buildings are there and were all of them damaged by fire? I am looking to help out tomorrow with some spells but they will not repair items damaged by fire.

DM Kathy
Friday April 13th, 2007 12:45:01 AM

After the executions, Any asks the elders if he may speak with them. "Tomorrow is soon enough, I believe," Sivaine replies. She looks tired and sad. Firon looks worried; Tahlela grim. None seem in the mood to talk.

Arminas and Lily also seem to feel the somber mood. Each of them retires in their own way, to think about what they have seen. They do not rejoin their friends until morning.

Maglant looks around, and asks around, about the damage to the buildings. Unfortunately, almost all of it was caused by fire. A few minor arrow holes represent the only other damage to structures, and those are easily mended without magic. The elves seem to appreciate the offer, though.

The next morning, Lorth summons his faithful mount and quickly returns to Windtree, arriving by mid-morning.

Shortly after his arrival, the elders invite you to join them near the cookfire. The fire is low at the moment, and nearly deserted; most of the elves are hard at work. Sivaine smiles at you. "Now then," she says, "What would you discuss with us?"

Lorth
Friday April 13th, 2007 9:02:59 AM

After greeting his friends, Lorth joins the elders fire circle, not sure what it is they will be talking about.

Any
Friday April 13th, 2007 1:47:38 PM

"We were simply wanting to clarify the terms of our employment here. How long do you wish us to remain? When do you feel your village will be complete enough to stand without us? Or, do you wish us to remain here indefinitely? I can only speak for myself when I say that I have felt that their are other evils that must be conquered in the Wold. Now that we have eliminated what appears to be the main opposition to your presence here, we simply wanted to know what your feelings were on this."

Any looks to the others,

"Do any of you have thoughts on this, or am I just out of line? I will abide by the decision of the group, and by the wishes of the village. It is better to talk of these things rather than keep them inside and wonder."

Bralin
Friday April 13th, 2007 3:15:31 PM

Arminas' words - It is more noble to die in battle. I for one never wish to be taken as a captive again - cause the dwarf to shake his head. He walks out with the ranger.

"Pelwyn has repented, and hope remains the rogue may in time. Would ye deny them that chance?
Had we chosen death over surrender 'gainst the Parnothians, who would have rescued Remo, or the children of Windtree?
Have I provided so little aid that you would rather see me dead at the hands of giants some years ago?"

Bralin shakes his head again. "Imprisonment closes tunnels, but paths always remain. Death ends everything."

---

He nods at Any's words.
"Our task here is done," he agrees.

Arminas
Friday April 13th, 2007 4:51:16 PM

Bralin speaks, and Arminas stops and listens with an astonished look upon his face. He nods as Bralin speaks of life and destiny.

This must be the longest speech he has ever given!

"Yes, we have accomplished much because we survived. Though I do not understand destiny well. If I were to die, wouldn't someone else take up my place? We have come upon the Wold long after countless others have lived and died, most of whom I know nothing about. Yet I would venture to guess that they also had dreams. Many of these people helped those in need, many did not. Yet the Wold goes on. My individual life is worth little, my ideals of freedom and Nature are what I value. I cannot answer for you and your life."

Lily Bolger Newbury Pipewood Trufflefinder
Friday April 13th, 2007 6:35:46 PM

"I would like to move out into the greater Wold again, but I have always had itchy feet, and I have not developed an attachment here. I came looking for adventure and booty. I've found a group who have welcomed me into their life. Let's see what happens next."

Florin Jadenth / sub Robert
Friday April 13th, 2007 6:42:02 PM

Florin joins the Swords of Light at cook fire to speak with the elders. He waits and listens, nodding agreement with Any's and Bralin's declaration that it is time to move on.

Davros
Friday April 13th, 2007 11:15:12 PM

"I am willing to see what rises over the next hill. I have done so many times in my life. But I would not leave the elves until they feel our help is no longer needed."

Harvest
Saturday April 14th, 2007 1:26:52 PM

Harvest Moon had caught up the arms of both Bralin Stoneminder and Arminas Calaelen, the left of one and the right of the other.

"There are many paths weaved by the tapestry of life," she had said simultaneously, to the two men, to herself, and to the blue sky above. "Some live life solid as the stone. Others live free and unfettered as the birds." It was a new day and Harvest Moon could not help but smile.

"Do you not think that should one attempt to be the other, that both would be diminished?"

Now standing next to Anthos at the informal council around the community cook fire, Harvest cannot but see the distant horizons within her mind, horizons to which all paths lead.

"Ways that travel outward also travel back," Harvest Moon adds. "Should we leave, it would be a simple thing to find us through the Pitchfork Council. And life may find us through this way again anyway."

"Life moves and travels, even though one stays in a single location. Witness our group. We have remained within your town for near half a year, and yet in that time, we have moved along. We have encountered Lily Bolger Newbury Pipewood Trufflefinder and Malgant, the Protector of Domi, and should they decide to follow our path, we will be increased."

"Even should we leave you," Harvest says to the Windtree Elders, "we will still be here for you."

DM Kathy
Sunday April 15th, 2007 11:40:28 PM

You spend some time debating the relative merits of death or imprisonment. But the main business at hand is your conversation with the elders.

"You make a good point," Tahlela says. "Indeed, I think your service to us is coming to an end. My hunters are much better prepared to defend us now, thanks to your training."

"We would have you wait," Sivaine says, "for two events. The first is the departure of the scholars, who have not yet finished cataloging the find. They tell us, however, that they will be finished within the week."

"The second thing we would have you wait for," says Firon, "is the arrival of Grynntym, the Greenmage, who will help us decide the fate of the druid you captured. He may want to speak with you before making his recommendation."

Tahlela nods her agreement. "Once these tasks are complete," she says, "you may leave with our thanks. Without your help, we should never have managed to bulid all of this." With a sweep of her hand, she encompasses the newly-built town.

"In the meantime," adds Sivaine, "We will be preparing to transplant the screening bushes and trees--the defenses you suggested when we first arrived. Now that autumn is almost upon us, the plants should withstand transplantation, with a little care. Perhaps you would even like to help?" She smiles at you.

"Whether you help with that task or not," Firon says, "we thank you for all you have done for us."

Lily Bolger Newbury Pipewood Trufflefinder
Monday April 16th, 2007 5:29:52 AM

"I would be very happy to help with transplanting trees and shrubs. There's nothing like gardening to feel centred, relaxed, fulfilled and at one with nature again.

"And you never know what buried treasure you just might dig up..." the bright little halfling says with a grin.

Any
Monday April 16th, 2007 1:43:42 PM

Any nods as the elders speak.

"I feel like this is the right thing to do, and for myself, I would be happy to help fro the time we remain with you. This place will always have a part in my heart and memory, a place that we can almost call home, as we have helped in its building. I know that no matter where I go, I will return here on occasion to see how you fare."

Any will help in doing whatever is necessary while waiting for the Greenmage to arrive.

Arminas
Monday April 16th, 2007 4:15:25 PM

Harvest has once again diffused the tension. Of course she is right, Arminas is different than the solid dwarf. Both help make the fabric of the Wold.

"You are right again Harvest, perhaps I am too carefree. Yet for me captivity is worse than death. I will think upon others ideals, and try and keep my mind open to understand the differences in the Wold. Now though, it is time for planting."

Arminas' voice rises in glee as he finishes his thoughts. Planting and working with Nature, finally something to bring joy.

Arminas puts his all into the work, scouting out plants to transplant and locating areas with just the right soil and sunlight for them to florish. He also uses the digging sticks to move and replant. He works long and hard, barely taking time to rest.

Malgant
Monday April 16th, 2007 4:26:03 PM

Having two rather large thumbs, neither of which are green Malgant helps with repairing and building any of the structures still damaged. If this is completed before the Greenmage arrives Malgant also will look to the defenses of the town with a careful, military eye and either implement or suggest changes.

He is quite heartened that Harvest has spoken out loud the invitation he had felt from the group. Needing to prove himself a hero to his people in order to return to them and be accepted he will gladly follow the Swords of Light. If there is adventure to be had, they will certainly find it.

Davros
Monday April 16th, 2007 4:37:05 PM

Upon hearing about the work with the find being nearly complete, Davros excuses himself and walks briskly, nearly running to get there. He is very excited, and asks to help the scholars in any way that he can. If they turn him away, he will gladly help planting trees.

"Just think", he says to the group. "The next time we come here the plants will have grown. When we travel here later in our lives we will be able to tell the children of this town that we were here to help plant these trees and help plant the town as well."

Bralin
Monday April 16th, 2007 5:14:05 PM

Bralin understands Harvest's comment, but shakes his head. The dwarf knows he is not getting his point across, and so tries again.
"I merely wish Arminas to reconsider 'death before captivity' as a rule. At the very least consider your liklihood of future escape 'ere falling on your blade."

To the request of the elves, he laughs heartily. "Ye not want me near your plants if ye value their health," he chuckles. "But I able to dig, if ye but point where ye want the hole."

Harvest
Monday April 16th, 2007 8:25:18 PM

Harvest Moon says nothing. She only smiles and veers off, making a bee-line for one of the smaller shrubs due for replanting. Cradled in her arms she carries it. To the shrub she describes the place in which it is now located as she plants it. And when it feels settled and content, she runs back for another.

Florin Jadenth
Monday April 16th, 2007 11:18:20 PM

Florin looks to the others and listens to what is said. He too is ready to move continue moving and seeing more of the Wold, he figures he can some how get letters to the Ivy and such an for the moment when they do leave can send word to her of their moving on and how he hopes to see her again, etc.

Florin otherwise is quiet as he listens and ponders what the groups next move will be for sure.

(OOC:Thank you Robert for covering for me last week.)

DM Kathy
Tuesday April 17th, 2007 12:38:10 AM

All told, you spend five more days in Nuaithar-Windtree. The scholars pack up and leave shortly after your return. They do request, however, that a guest house/study be built near the underground chamber, so that visiting scholars can spend time at the site. The elders agree, and construction is begun.

The rest of the town is largely finished, thanks in large part to the money you found. To human eyes, it doesn't look much like a town at all. It takes a practiced eye to spot the buildings up in trees, cut into the hillsides, concealed in groves. The scout platforms are thoroughly hidden, but still have a commanding view of the area.

You help with transplanting the screening bushes and trees that are the last piece of the new town's defense. In a few years when they have grown into their places, they will act to funnel attackers into narrow lanes, and provide cover for archers firing on enemies.

It is definitely autumn now. The sky is a deeper blue, and the days are shorter, with a decided chill in the mornings. Birds are beginning to head south, and squirrels dart frantically about, gathering the last bits of food before their long naps.

Grynntym arrives on the fourth day, and hears the case of the druid. Reluctantly, he concludes that she must share the fate of her half-dragon leader. "I wish she could unlearn the harmful lessons she has learned," he says sorrowfully, "but she is too dangerous in her present mood, and there is no way to contain her with absolute certainty. We must therefore help her along to her next life, where she will perhaps learn the lessons she neglected in this one."

Thus, another execution is held, this one mercifully quick and clean. With that last sad business done, you are free to depart.

Lorth
Tuesday April 17th, 2007 8:29:48 AM

Lorth is sure to tell Grynntym what the dragon lady said about working on her own, as he thinks it is important. Except for that he joyfully helps the elves plant and dig and do whatever other honest work they have.

(OOC: Sorry for missing a post, have the flu :(

Any
Tuesday April 17th, 2007 10:01:08 AM

The hard work is done, and the harder task of dealing with the druid is also finished. Now it is time to move on.

Any brings his lute around to the front and begins to play.

"I learned this one many years ago, but it it somehow fitting.

The road goes ever on,
Following unknown ways,
We must seek our own,
And wander all our days.

The road goes ever on,
And all must follow there.
It leads from hearth and home,
Farther than some can bear.

The road goes ever on,
I will follow as I can.
To right what has been wrong,
And help my fellow man."

Putting away his lute, he looks expectantly at his friends,

"And now, where does our road lead?"

Harvest
Tuesday April 17th, 2007 10:12:32 AM

"We are near Magpie Crossing," Harvest suggests. "It would be very nice to stop at the Shadfly Inn to visit Hildy and Lincoln Horncroft."

"I would like very much to see how the boy Keil has spent his money. And ... I think I would like very much to taste Hildy Horncroft's chicken pie."

Davros
Tuesday April 17th, 2007 4:00:53 PM

"We could stop by the Pitchfork Council and see how they fare."

"Grynntym, it is good to see you again. If only the circumstances were better."

Bralin
Tuesday April 17th, 2007 4:47:13 PM

"I would also return to the Pitchfork Council," Bralin adds. The dwarf then gives Harvest an acknowledging nod before adding, "mayhap by way of Magpie Crossing."

Almost under his breath he adds darkly, "I would seek a way to return to Koshe-Marr."

Arminas
Tuesday April 17th, 2007 5:27:10 PM

Arminas works steadily, until the moment of Grynntym's return. He goes and speaks quietly with the green mage, telling of his concern with the druid.

Arminas attends the execution, and though his face holds no sign of joy it does show a hint of satisfaction. He moves up to Harvest, and says:

"I am sorry she could not be saved."

As the group makes travel plans, Arminas joins in with:

"It would be good to see Magpie Crossing again, and I suppose a visit to the Pitchfork Council would be advised. I am concerned that the message Lorth sent to Parnoth could be misconstrued. Best to plainly spell out the problem, I don't want to see Windtree become a target of retribution from Parnoth or his spawn. I could use some new supplies as well."

When Bralin mentions Koshe-Marr, Arminas stiffens and a look close to panick comes over him.

"Best to close all portals to that hellish place, and let those there rot in their own self pity."

Lily Bolger Newbury Pipewood Trufflefinder
Tuesday April 17th, 2007 8:02:47 PM

OOC: lots of family coming, and tonnes of cleaning to do. I will get the Posting Report in tomorrow.

"Magpie Crossing. I think I skirted that place late at night to come here. You know, I still haven't seen the room you found. That was why I came. I was off looking for adventure and I heard about a mysterious room, full of traps, 'found' underground with no way in or out. When you hear that you wanna go have a look, of course.

"And so, looking for adventure I was nearly eaten by gigantic wolf, twice the height of a man it was, with teeth like tigers," Lily pauses a moment to gauge the audience. Her head says it would be prudent to stop this story now, but her heart...

Malgant
Tuesday April 17th, 2007 8:36:19 PM

Malgant listens to Lily's story with a smile. Not knowing the area, none of these options really mean anything to him. Wherever these people are going though, he is sue adventure will follow.

Florin Jadenth
Tuesday April 17th, 2007 9:41:26 PM

Florin enjoys the time waiting and the talking of things the group plans or hopes to do.

This having been his main chance to get to know elves and to understand more of the life he has now he takes some time to just wander around the elves new home and look over the place more. He does go to see the elf lady who had took the letter for him to Ivy before and speaks to her, wondering if she plans to go back there sometime and if she does if she would take another letter for him.

If the letter works out the Florin takes time before the group plans to leave to pen a letter to Ivy, telling her that the group is moving on from the elven village and that he will write when he can and hopes to see her again. Otherwise her gift, and the time he had with her will be in his mind and heart and he shall return to her one day when he can.

Other then this Florin will go about his spending time with the others as you has always enjoyed Bralin's company, the dwarf was truely as steady as the stone and now Malgant, was a new mystery to get to know better and he was fun to train with also. He also invites Lorth to train with Malgant and him each day the group is still at the elven home and if she agrees Florin also sees if Harvest would mind tutoring in more unarmed teachings.
