Entering the Pyramid - DM Donna Monday March 12th, 2007 2:37:01 AM
Brahmah opens the doors.
The very close inspection by the cautious Taurs reveals no footprints--nothing has come through these doors in countless years.
The party carefully files into the hallway and follows the corridor around to the bend, seeing that it opens up (immediately after the turn) onto the Antechamber: the room itself is not all that large...about 30 feet square, but the ceiling on the room is about 20 feet up---so there is a cave-like feeling as the party advances. The only light that illuminates the place is the light provided by Mosushi. Obviously advancing down into the depths of the pyramid will require something to light your way.
There is another set of stairs at the opposite side of the room. They are wide enough for the Taurs to walk two abreast.
Winterglade Monday March 12th, 2007 5:01:04 AM
Winterglade is still walking some 20 ft behind the ones taking lead. Clip-clop go his hooves on the stones.
"If Winterglade was buliding this he would have put a falling block of granite over there."

Toros answers "Not that I can See!" (Spoting - 10)

Going Down - DM Donna Tuesday March 13th, 2007 2:26:09 AM
After descending a flight of wide steps down about thirty feet or so, the next room to reveal itself to the party is a lot like the previous one, only bigger...but before the party can do more than register this fact, a voice booms out from directly in front of them in the tongue of the ancient Wemic:
All who understand the ancient Wemic language, Highlight to display spoiler: {"All hail the Veiled Queen, eternal ruler of the true taurs of the Wold!!!" }
Everyone who can must roll a Spellcraft check versus DC15.
The room is about 35 or 40 feet square, with its ceiling about 25 feet or so tall. The friezes on the walls here are also heavily damaged--clearly by mechanical means (a.k.a. clubs, maces and/or hammers), as opposed to mold or ivy growing on the walls. The smashed remnants of what may have been chairs or chaises of some sort are scattered about what used to be beautifully-tiled floors (which have also seemed to have suffered the wrath of people rather than time.)
There is another stairway that leads down--it's wide enough to allow the party to walk two abreast.

Flat-top enter the room, trying very hard not to nake noise with his Hooves. In side the room He hears avoice, "What that??" The first thing he does is look up. "Gee! I'm begining to think like Winterglade!"
Toros Enters the room, look up?? While answering the centaur's question "That's a magic voice Hailing the Veiled Queen! Now remember She's Dead!"
Zeoll d20+8=24 Tuesday March 13th, 2007 10:19:37 AM
The liontaur confirms what Flat-top says. He looks around and tries to see a clue that would relate to the history of this place (Bard Lore 24!).
Zeoll has no ranks in spellcraft.
He thinks it is a shame that all this beauty should have been created for a tyrant, but also a shame that it has been destroyed.

Checkin' Stuff Out - DM Donna Wednesday March 14th, 2007 2:20:27 AM
Winterglade and Mosushi both come to the conclusion that the voice announcing the Veiled Queen as "the eternal ruler of all true taurs!" is simply a permanent Magic Mouth spell that was likely put there many, many, many years ago.
Toros and Flat-top roll a natural 20 in "Delusions of Grandeur", as neither of them have ranks in Spellcraft.
(DM OOC: note to self: have at least half a dozen iron golems attack Winterglade as a reward for his optimistic thinking...)
So far, however, other than the spell effect, there is nothing else in the room...except the stairs that lead even further down into the pyramid.
Gecktar d20+9=18 Wednesday March 14th, 2007 4:11:40 AM
Gecktar realizes that the uncomprehensible voice is coming from a spell that have been put here.
"All we can see are signs of great civilization, even if this was for honoring a despot."
Gecktar proceed further into the pyramid
Winterglade Wednesday March 14th, 2007 6:16:23 AM
Winterglade continues raising the morale of the group.
"Strange building. Winterglade wonders what purpose did it serve? A temple, maybe? Why this room was ruined but the sculpting outside was left intact? Something got loose in this room? A rampant demon perhaps? Think it's still trapped in here? If so, it must be very hungry. Let's go down and take a look, yes?"
Flat-top and Toros Wednesday March 14th, 2007 7:27:41 AM
Both Flat-top and Toros Looks at each other, and together they ask Brahmah " UNDEAD?? UNDEAD??"
Flat-top (who is trying very hard not to make noise with his hoves knuckles on,) "Oh! My Gosh! Undead and she has the Black Swords??"
Toros tell the Centaur, "Just keep thinking that She's Dead! And Cannot Hurt You!" But under his breast, he tell himself 'I hope!'
Flat-top tells Toros as they go down more steps, "I can hear you!"
Zeoll d20+10=27 Wednesday March 14th, 2007 10:47:24 AM
Zeoll laughs at Glade's "morale-boosting."
"Don't worrry, my frriend, demons prreferr beef, as I underrstand it, so you and I can rrun while it grrabs the minotaurrs."
The liontaur continues down the stairs, still walking on the ceiling and keeping alert.

Moshushi Wednesday March 14th, 2007 11:21:39 AM
"This seems to be just an old spell. There's no real reason to assume anyone or anything is down here other than stones and dust. I'm sure we have nothing to fear."
OOC: let us all take a moment to mourn Moshushi, who has certainly doomed himself.
Brahmah (Helm of Languages, Alarm at door) [AC 22, HPS 105] Wednesday March 14th, 2007 12:01:18 PM
The taur side glances at Zeoll and smirks. "Beef heh?" He snickers. "Come on. Lets keep looking."
When the reach a major crossroads, he will cast Alarm again.

Another Room! - DM Donna Thursday March 15th, 2007 2:36:20 AM
The party advances downwards, pressing deeper into the pyramid, down into the next room.
The ceiling here is still about 25 feet up. The room is almost a perfect square (the floor area measures about fifty feet on each side)...except that there is a large alcove that is built into one wall. The alcove houses a statue that one could assume was of a wemic female--only the statue seems to have suffered a fate similar to those that the wall friezes of the previous rooms: one foreleg stands (seemingly by itself), with only two rear paws left in their original places. The rest of the statue was long ago knocked onto its side--into the rear of the alcove--one of the upraised arms lies at an odd angle, while the other, partially-lowered arm is also broken, but its forearm is likely in many more pieces amongst the dust in the area. The female wemic's head is nowhere to be found...at least, not in recognizable pieces.
Suddenly there is a flapping noise that comes from the north wall. Everyone must roll a Spot check versus DC15.

Zeoll d20+10=13 Thursday March 15th, 2007 3:39:17 PM
Zeoll does not see anything. He is too busy looking at the statue upside down from the alcove's ceiling.
"Maybe the forrearrm held a sworrd." He tries to imagine the statue when it was whole ... would the broken arm have been holding something? Maybe a weapon?
Spotting Things - DM Donna Friday March 16th, 2007 2:00:12 AM
Those who made the Spot check see a rat dart out from beneath the torn, worn tapestry that is only hanging by one corner on one of the walls.
Zeoll's perusal of the remains of the statue show that the right hand of the statue did, indeed, hold a sword, as the pommel of the weapon is still in her hand...however, it was obviously part of the statue itself.
There is still another set of stairs that leads down...
Winterglade d20+1=7 Friday March 16th, 2007 4:42:20 AM
"This room gives Winterglade a strange feeling. Let's search it thoroughly, yes? Look behind the tapestries, too? If there are rats here there is another way inside. There is nothing here for them to eat."
Winterglade tries to help with the search, but it doesn't go very well [7 on Aid Another, failed].
[I suggest we Take20 searching this room. Please tell me somebody has Search as a class skill and took ranks in it.]
Flat-top and Toros Friday March 16th, 2007 7:42:29 AM
Toro jump aside' taking a good look "OH! It's just a big rat!"
"Hmmm!" Flat-top turns to see the rat scutter away, "Yes! A Big Rat? Let's look behind the tapestry for that rat hole! Before we go down those stairs. I'd feel much better if I saw that rat hole before I turn my back?"
Toros replies "Yes! So would I."

Hello everyone, I am ready to resume my posting, finally! Just need some warming and catching up, as I am done with my real life stuff (passed my preliminary defense for academic work). Thank you very much indeed for your patience and understanding. It is good to be coming back. And Ceil, I owe you a big time, even now do not know how to thank.... Cheers, Tunc-Toros
Searching the Area (again) - DM Donna Monday March 19th, 2007 12:38:06 PM
The Chosen very carefully search the room.
The only items in here are the broken furniture, the shattered statue, the tattered tapestry, and the vandalized mosaic on the floor.
Conclusion: somebody with serious issues with authority must have wrecked the place.
Poking around the tapestry reveals that, underneath the bulk of it--on the floor--there is (more accurately now: was) a rat's nest...that is now empty.
And the stairs down still remain.
Zeoll Monday March 19th, 2007 1:24:00 PM
"Well, let's keep going down, my frriends!"
The liontaur remains on the ceiling as he walks down.

Yet Another Room - DM Donna Tuesday March 20th, 2007 2:53:26 AM
The friezes in this room--easily 80 feet square--don't seem to be as damaged as the previous areas. Perhaps that's due to the fact that you are now deeper into the pyramid--further into the lair of the ex-monarch of ancient wemic-kind.
One practically-intact frieze depicts a handsome but sad liontaur leaving the presence of a regal female as she apparently banishes him via an outstretched, pointing hand. Though it is obvious that the male doesn't wish to go, you cannot tell the feelings of the female, as she is wearing the visored tiara from the previous friezes. The furniture here is also damaged, but there is a tabletop that is largely intact, although only one side is held up by legs--the other side is on the floor.
There is still another staircase that leads down.
Winterglade d20+1=16 Tuesday March 20th, 2007 5:41:38 AM
"Let us take a look around and proceed downstairs."
Winterglade examines the tabletop [Search 16].
Toros Tuesday March 20th, 2007 6:38:25 AM
"Right, Flat-top I am right behind." While following the lead, the wemic checks his pockets, as if looking for something, perhaps a black & white chocolate bar?!
OOC: Waoww, it has been a looong time that I have not posted, I have really missed it! I can feel the each typing of letters and then construction of words and finally sentences one by one.
As if I have not typed for a long time - even if I have been typing and typing, sitting in front of keyboard and screen mostly recently.
Typing in character for posting as a Woldian Chosen is different...
Oh, and the chocolates...
Flat-top d20+6=20 Tuesday March 20th, 2007 7:44:34 AM
"Toros Puy Away That Chocolat! You know how Females LOVE chocolets??" Flat-top look around. "That beaten and smash statue will come to life for some chocolet!" Flat-top look around to see anything different??
I f he sees nothing then he'll follow at the end of the Party.
Spot - 20
Brahmah Tuesday March 20th, 2007 12:12:40 PM
"Glad you could make it Toros."
"Lets keep going down. Um, we really should keep track of direction and time please."
Brahmah will cast his last alarm when they have been in the building for 5 hours.
(How long have we been in the pyramid?)
Moshushi Tuesday March 20th, 2007 12:57:07 PM
"wonder who he is. Any ideas?"
Gecktar Tuesday March 20th, 2007 1:47:32 PM
Gecktar too is thinking that they should continue. So he progresses down the stairs.
Zeoll d20+19=24 Tuesday March 20th, 2007 3:02:11 PM
[OOC: Welcome back, Tunc! We missed you! Hope you are here to stay!]
Zeoll is fascinated by the picture of the departing lover. If only he could speak ... the things he could say to shed light on this story.
Zeoll asks the group to pause for just a minute. The bard walks down from the ceiling and stands next to the mural of the sad liontaur. He takes out his drum and sings (first in wemic, then in tauric) to the image of the exiled liontaur ...
[OOC: I'm adding some bold text to show how Zeoll emphasizes the rhythm.]
Lachaera, oh, where have you gone far away? And what news have you of the queen that you left? For if we could meet you, then what would you say? And why were you banished alone and bereft?
Perform 24
Zeoll touches the mural, and stands for a moment as if expecting an answer. If there is none, he joins the group in continuing down the stairs, as before.
Actions Resolved - DM Donna Wednesday March 21st, 2007 2:30:44 AM
Winterglade's examination of the tabletop reveals that it was an excellently-crafted table...no more than that seems evident.
Flat-top spots nothing...although he does notice that Toros' attempts to find chocolate seem to have made him a friend--Heyoo has shambled over to the wemic and is eyeing him hopefully.
Brahmah estimates that the group has been exploring the interior of the ziggurat for about two hours...maybe two and a half hours at most.
Zeoll's performance sounds very good, given the echoey features of the large stone room. There is no other audience than the Chosen, though.
Gecktar--foolishly perhaps?--goes down the stairs all by himself.
Gecktar Highlight to display spoiler: { In your next post, please state what your light source is, since (as far as I can tell) Mosushi is the only Taur who bothered to have one and his is still upstairs with him. Flat-top will leave his light on for as long as the party need it.
Winterglade Wednesday March 21st, 2007 7:54:10 AM
"Well, the legend says the queen had a lover before she became what she became. Then eventually he left her, though the legend is vague about the reasons of the parting."
Winterglade shrugs and nods at Moshushi.
"The relief depicts her dismissing him, but gods alone know what really happened that day. Maybe this is just what she wanted people to remember."
Winterglade continues down the stairs after Gecktar.
Zeoll Wednesday March 21st, 2007 2:11:54 PM
The liontaur urges the group to keep going down!
"We have to stick togetherr! Gechtarr just left!"
Zeoll hurries after his friend.

Toros Wednesday March 21st, 2007 8:40:19 PM
Toros gives the sweets he finds in his left pocket to his new friend, keeping the ones in the right for later. While Heyoo enjoys a sweetest chocolate, the wemic focuses on the task on hand and stays close to others - with a smile on his face.
OOC: I am here to stay with you, not that easy to get rid of me :)
Everyone in the Room - DM Donna Thursday March 22nd, 2007 2:37:41 AM DM OOC: sorry, Gecktar, I missed the darkvision (doh!)--however, the Light spell will aid in the Spot check that you did make.
Gecktar looks around the chamber he has descended to:
The ceilings now are about thirty feet tall; this room is, again, eighty feet on each side. The friezes are untouched and depict what appears to be tribute ceremonies in which the Veiled Queen is accepting various treasures from the four corners of her vast empire--wagonloads of craftgoods, succulent meats and fruits, seafood and (of course) jewelry made of gold, silver and gems of all kinds. Many different wemics bow and scrape before the Queen as they present their tribute.
There is dust covering not only the plushly-upholstered benches that ring the walls, but also on the floor itself, scattered across which are the remnants of broken armor and sundered weapons.
In the middle of one wall, two massive stone doors block the way forward, each is ornately carved with ancient symbols and pictographs.
Beneath the dust that coats the floor (and thanks to Gecktar's Light, he sees a particular, rather familiar pattern to the mosaic tiles on the floor of this room.
Gecktar hears his comrades hurrying down the flight of stairs to join him at the foot of the steps.
Everyone joining Gecktar must make two Spot checks--the first on versus DC18 and the second versus DC30.

Gecktar hearing his friends behind him stops an instant to wait for them.

Spotting Things (Again) - DM Donna Friday March 23rd, 2007 1:17:15 PM
The rest of the Taurs with Gecktar join him in the huge, dusty, yet magnificent room. The friezes are grand, and they show how powerful the Veiled Queen and her court must have been in their heyday.
The Spot check that everyone made means that everybody in the group sees something very familiar in the mosaic pattern on the floor--a design that looks to be depicting something specific, but the dust obscures much of it. To be sure of whatever the pattern may be, the dust would have to be swept away.
However, Brahmah and his helm have a very easy time of reading the pictograph writings on the walls...(Brahmah and anyone else making a successful Decipher Script check versus DC20)Highlight to display spoiler: {All who enter the presence of Her Magnificent Majesty Motina must publically swear their fealty!}
Winterglade Friday March 23rd, 2007 2:33:16 PM
"Looks more like trash to Winterglade, Gecktar. Look at what's left of this breastplate." - the centaur moves the rusty remains away with his hoof. "Nobody could have survived a blow that did that much damage. Why clean up body but leave weapons and armor?"
"Something about the floor strikes Winterglade as oddly familiar. Shall we take a closer look?"
The centaur takes out his winter blanket and uses it to sweep away the dust. <Cough cough> "Bleck. Later Winterglade will have to summon something to wash up the blanky for him."
Brahmah (Helm, 1st Alarm 2.5hours) Friday March 23rd, 2007 5:29:25 PM
"Aw. We have to swear fealty to the her Majesty. I want to assume Her Majesty is OUT for the day, but...." He trails off, smiling. "I swear fealty to Her Magnificent Majesty Motina..." He pauses and lowers his voice. "... only if it gets us further into this pit. I serve Domi and no one else."
Zeoll Friday March 23rd, 2007 9:32:39 PM
The liontaur is getting nervous and contemplates casting invisibility. But not yet.
He looks down from his vantage point at the design on the floor, and tries to make out what it is.
He asks Brahmah, what is he talking about. We have to declare ourselves loyal to the queen to pass this point?

Flat-top look around and kicks a shield and a helnet. Then he hears some thing odd comimg from the Captain??
"Hmmmm! that's strange? The Captain is loyal to Domi, He must see something that we back here, Cannot see yet!" So standing strait, Flat top will repeat what ever Brahmah said. "I swear fealty to Her Magnificent Montina" But it leaves a bad tase in his mouth. So to himself he ask forgiveness from Domi.
Gecktar Monday March 26th, 2007 3:22:02 AM
Turns to Brahmah when he swears fealty to the Queen and waits for him to answer Zeoll's question.
Wemic Decorating 101 - DM Donna Monday March 26th, 2007 3:30:13 AM
The dust that Winterglade stirs up settles again, but in the corners of the room instead of its original resting place.
The mosaic design on the floor is actually a large map of Wemic Isle, done in amazing detail, with a golden star in the northwestern, mountainous region that the group is now located at. No doubt the star was to indicate where the Veiled Queen's ziggurat now stands.
Heyoo sneezes and sits down, since he doesn't smell anything edible around here.
Toros d20=3 d20=7 Monday March 26th, 2007 4:33:52 AM
Toros moves his eyes around the surrounding decorations (consecutive spot checks 8, 12). Even if Toros does not recognize anything particular at once, what he notices about the mosaic pattern seems intriguing for the curious cat. He turns around the mosaic pattern to find out something familiar, without disturbing the dust over the pattern and anythingelse.
The golden star in the northwest gives enough hint that this design could be a map, or simply something that shows location. Then the mosaic design reveals itself, as if the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle are all put into their proper places in a big frame.
Toros looks at the Wemic Isle before him, and feels an irresistable urge to sweep away the dust that covers the beauty of this masterpiece.

"hmm, I wonder if we need to swear fealty if we are not going to actually see her?
I swear my loyalty to the true eternal ruler of the Wemic people."

"Sorry Zeoll, this place is making me nervous. I really don't swearing loyalty to someone of dubious nature, let alone someone who wielded the Black sword. Evil or not, I have a bad feeling about this. Something tells me that I'm not coming out of this pyramid alive. I just have a feeling." He swears loyalty agian to the lady, though in his heart Domi is the most important thing. The mission is a close second.

Winterglade Monday March 26th, 2007 1:43:28 PM
Winterglade stands still watching the map on the floor.
"Now this is one extravagant piece of art. You should get something similar laid out in your home castle just to impress the visitors."
"What now? Swear fealty to the Queen? Winterglade doesn't think so. He already promised it to Brawler until such time as the Brawler has no further use of him. Winterglade says let's break down the door instead."
Lip Service, Anyone? - DM Donna Tuesday March 27th, 2007 2:18:01 AM
The mosaic map is a true work of art--it must have taken the artisans who laid it out a massive amount of time and effort to make the map so beautiful and faithful to the geography of the island. It is absolutely amazing.
For everyone swearing their fealty, nothing else seems to happen.
For everyone not swearing their fealty...nothing else seems to happen.
The next move is up to the party.
Gecktar Tuesday March 27th, 2007 3:39:01 AM
"Swearing fealty to the Veiled Queen is impossible for me. My faith is to Domi. And he has not relieved me from his service".
"Now let's see what could be behind these doors..."
Gecktar close the massive doors.

The liontaur goes on to recommend a few of his favorite eating and drinking establishments in Domi's region of the afterlife.

Winterglade Tuesday March 27th, 2007 4:28:02 PM
"Eh, heheh, the thing is, when Winterglade said we he meant the muscules of the party. Winterglade likes to think of himself more as the brain, see? So, why don't one of you hornheads reach into your backpack and pull out some kind of instrument of brutal destruction? Winterglade is sure you've brought enough to arm a heavy infantry company; no door can stand against that for long."
Toros Tuesday March 27th, 2007 11:02:58 PM
Not worrying much about to whom he should be faithfull the most, Toros chooses to follow the apparent actions of the most faithfulls among the Chosen.
the pieces of mosaic map still amaze, making the wemic wonder what comes next in this maze
Surprise! - DM Donna d4=1 Wednesday March 28th, 2007 2:38:55 AM
As the party concentrates on going through the huge doors, the room suddenly fills with the sound of tile cracking and breaking apart:
From either side of the doors, a total of four figures literally tear themselves out of the wall and surge towards the Chosen, wailing in the ancient wemic tongue:
(all those who understand Wemic)...Highlight to display spoiler: {"For the transgressions of the few, everyone shall suffer! Death to all who would betray their queen!!!"}
There are two of these large figures to the right of the double doors, and two to the left. They smell of death and decay, and look like wizened wemics of old...with murder in their eyes as they advance on the Chosen. This wholly unexpected attack by purely unholy creatures means that everyone in the room must roll a Will save versus DC15 or be paralyzed with fear for 1 round.
DM OOC: we'll keep it relatively simple: facing the wizened wemics, numbers 1 and 2 are on the left side of the party and numbers 3 and 4 are on the right side of the party. You are all considered to be within hand-to-hand range of each other. Retreating straight back won't provoke any attacks of opportunity from any of your foes. You'll be attacking versus AC20. Good luck.
Toros d20=3 Wednesday March 28th, 2007 8:35:01 AM
Toros is caught simply unprepared and paralyzed with fear, smelling the death and decay that comes from the wizened wemics. (will save: 9)

Brahmah doesn't move, having had his swords drawn, the minotaur makes his first attacks on #1. (hits AC 31(threat 25), 30(threat 32,), 11 and 28(threat), of course no crits on undead!!, for a total of 27 damage only... if you need crits let me know Donna :) Both are slashing weapons and magical for purposes of DR.)

Flat-top make his way to be almost next to the captain, "Well! Well! Well! What Do We Have here??" Flat-top takes his Morning Star from his belt (The +2 Morning Star)) "What are your names Dum and Dummer??" he tells them as he approches the two brutes.
Attack on one brut AC 28 - Damages 20 hp.
OOC to DM: I think that's all I can do in this round. But may be i can get One Attack in being not too far from the frount??
Brahmah manages to strike at Wizened Wemic #1, inflicting damage, but the minotaur notices something rather dismaying: the blows are not doing the damage they ought to be doing. Brahmah, please make a Concentration check versus DC25.
These emaciated, dry wemics are a LOT tougher than they look!
Mosushi is too scared to move!
Flat-top attacks Wizened Wemic #2 (DM OOC: Flat-top didn't state which one he was going after so I randomly rolled for it,) and finds that his blow, too, doesn't seem to be as effective as it normally would be had he been facing a living foe.
Zeoll begins his casting--2 rounds to go.
Heyoo charges forward, clawing and biting at one of the lower legs of Wizened Wemic #3. (DM OOC: Again, nobody stated anything for the bear, so I rolled to see which foe got bit at.) The bear's mouth closes on the left front leg of his opponent, and Heyoo begins to try to rip the undead thing's leg off.
WW1 strikes at Brahmah, the blows hit AC14 & AC10--missing Brahmah.
WW2 strikes at Flat-top, the blows hit AC15 & AC12, so they both miss the centaur as well.
WW3 strikes at Heyoo, striking AC28 and AC14. The first blow slams the bear away a good twenty feet, inflicting 13hpd on the young ursine.
WW4 strikes at Gecktar (who failed his saving throw by not posting), its two flailing fists smacking solidly into the minotaur (one hit AC25 and the other AC27) for a bone-crunching 26hpd total!
Both Heyoo and Gecktar must roll Fortitude saves versus DC16 on the next round. DM OOC: I'll expect Brahmah to roll for Heyoo.
Toros and Mosushi feel enough of the horror drain away from them to actually take some action next round.

Okay friends, we're in combat and there were only two player posts Friday. What gives?! It makes the DM's life alotr easier!
In the third round of battle, Zeoll's summoned ally, a crocodile, appears on the other side of a wizened wemic ... depending on which one is still standing. Zeoll places the croc so that it is flanking with a Chosen who is under attack.
Zeoll begins to sing a song to boost the group's morale. Everyone gets a +1 bonus to attack and damage!
The crocodile attacks a flanked wizened wemic. It gains a +2 flanking and +1 inspire courage. It hits AC17 -- a miss!

Bramah--in the heat of battling for his life against WW1--gets the distinct feeling that there ought to be something that he should be recognizing, but his concentration is centered on attacking his foe, and so that feeling quickly passes.
Bramah's attack on WW1 does a total of 17hpd.
Heyoo's attack on WW3 does a total of 7hpd.
Zeoll's spellcasting is complete! He begins to sing a song of inspiration!
A crocodile appears behind WW2.
Flat-top's attack on WW2 does a total of 15hpd.
Both Gecktar and Winterglade's attempt at turning the wemic mummies don't seem to have any effect...unless it's make the wizened wemics angrier.
Mosushi's touch attack does 1hpd to one of the wizened wemics...only none of us know which one, since Mosushi didn't say which of the four targets he was attacking.
Toros heals Gecktar for 13hp.
Wizened Wemic #1 attacks Brahmah; one attack hits AC27 for 15hpd (second attack misses Bramah's AC); Brahmah needs to roll a Fort Save versus DC16
WW2 attacks Flat-top; the centaur's battle acumen is dazzling to witness...none of the mummy's blows land on Flat-top.
WW3 ignores the bear gnawing on one of its paws, instead directing its flailing arms at Winterglade; both fists connect with the centaur (hits AC28 & AC23) doing 15hpd and 14hpd damage respectively! Winterglade must make two Fort Saves versus DC16
WW4 attacks Gecktar hitting AC22 for 10hpd and AC14 for 12hpd.

Gecktar once more calls for the power of Domi. He targets a wemic with his warhammer and a ray of light emanates from it.

[Fort saves 18 and 27, whew.]
Winterglade staggers, his head spinning from the blows. The centaur is not amused. Not in the least. The prospect of caring for four or five members of the party suffering from mummy rot is not something he is particularily looking forward to.
Looking around he tries to estimate who is most badly wounded. Finally he moves up to Gecktar and channels some healing into his wounds [casts CMW over Zone of Truth healing 15 damage].
"How about a tactical withdrawal, Captain? They don't look very fast! We can come back with fire and burn them out! Or Zeoll can shoot them with a bow from ceiling! What are they going to do to stop us, barricade the door?"
[Question #1: what kind of action is it to activate a seal?
Question #2: Rules say you can use a tower shield to give you a total cover from opponent, but as a tradeoff you must give up your attacks. What kind of action would it be in your interpretation of the rules to use the shield in such way? If it is possible to use the shield in such way and cast a spell then Winterglade is going to give himself this round a total cover from his attackers.
Donna, I know I'm trying to add to your workload, but a map in this combat would be very useful. Right now we don't have a way to setup flanking, and worse yet, they can whack into us with a full attack action no matter what we do. When I decide to heal someone I don't know if I can reach them without provoking an AoO and if the casting itself needs to be on defensive in order to avoid another AoO. Also, could you please list for us how much damage has been done so far to each of the opponents? It's something each of us could piece together by himself by scanning all the posts, but since you already have all the info at your fingertips... Thanks, M.]

Speaking of #3 and the bear in peril, that big dead wemic is in sore need of a scorching ray, and lucky for him, Moshushi has a spare one.
24 hits for the ranged touch attack I'm guessing, for 11 points of damage
Moshushi will draw his magic missile wand and hope for the best
Time Stands Still - DM Donna Tuesday April 3rd, 2007 2:51:17 AM
Mosushi's player has asked some pertinent questions. Time will be frozen for the battle until I get the answers to #1 and #2. As for number three...I am sending out a diagram/map so that you can tell the relative positions for the mummies versus the Chosen. I tried to make the map to the (roughly) proper scale. I hope it helps.
DM Request to Players: please clearly state which of the Wizened Wemics your PC is attacking, even when it is "obvious"...for example, Gecktar's attack for Round 3 did not clearly state he was attacking WW4, so I could be a real jerk of a DM and say that Gecktar is actually firing off his Ray of Light at WW1 and give WW4 an AoO...but I'm not--this time. Always say whom it is you're attacking. I have enough work to do as it is. Thanks.

Winterglade AC22 HP46(61) Tuesday April 3rd, 2007 12:44:42 PM
[Sorry to have stopped the game! And thanks for the map, Donna! You can make an ad-hoc ruling for both #1 and #2 if you like so that we can continue. Later we can figure out how it is going to work in the future.]
Gecktar AC20 HP43/66 Tuesday April 3rd, 2007 3:28:57 PM
Gecktar feels unconfortable experienceing such power full spell as time stop. But he aims at WW4 and hopes his ray will it one day.
Toros (AC 23, hp 70/70) d8=3 d8=6 Tuesday April 3rd, 2007 7:28:11 PM
Safe from the frontier Toros touches Heyoo, the friendly bear and heals his most unbearable wounds with his wand (12 hps)
Round 3 - DM Donna d20+9=13 d20+9=15 d20+9=20 d20+9=19 d20+9=18 d20+9=13 d20+9=25 d20+9=18 d8+8=16 Wednesday April 4th, 2007 3:30:32 AM
Time starts up again, and the nastiness of the battle almost has the perspective of the Chosen appear to be in slow motion...but that is obviously simply a Cheap Special Effect (like in a Sam Peckinpaw film ;D)
Gecktar aims his Searing Light at WW4...and misses.
Winterglade heals up Gecktar for 15hp.
Flat-top gives WW2 a centaur-styled smackdown, but the heavy blows from both sword and hoof seem to be only half-effective.
One of Brahmah's blows strikes WW1, but it, too, isn't as damaging as the ranger would prefer.
Heyoo does his bear-ly best to cover Winterglade.
Toros heals Winterglade for 14hp.
Mosushi aims his Scorching Ray at WW3--and the beam strikes true, sizzling the dried wemic with an effectiveness that seems to be twice as much as he believed could be!
Due to the DM's "time stop", Toros gets to heal up Heyoo for 12hp.
WW1 pummels at Brahmah, missing both times (he hit AC13 and AC15.)
WW2 pounds away at Flat-top, showing himself to be every bit as accurate as WW1 (he hit AC20 and AC19, which both miss Flat-top.)
WW3 flails at Winterglade before he can act on Brahmah's order to withdraw, but its apparent that the blind panic evoked by Mosushi's ultra-effective fire attack has rattled the undead thing--both blows miss by a mile (he hit AC18 and AC13.)
WW4 grimly strikes at Gecktar, one blow connecting with a solid thud (hits AC25 for 16hpd) and the other whistling past one of Gecktar's ears (hits AC18.)
Answering Questions OOC - DM Donna Wednesday April 4th, 2007 3:38:27 AM
Question #1: unless otherwise stated by the Seal description, activating a Seal takes one Standard Action.
Question #2: yes, Winterglade can cower behind his tower shield, but his defensive position will be such that he will always be the last to take action in the round--meaning that everyone else's posts in the group would take effect before his would...as well as all of the actions for the monsters the Chosen are currently facing.
And, soooo sorry to disappoint you, but you will have to carefully read my graphic descriptions of how well the various attacks and/or tactics effect the monsters in order to deduce if a particular action or tactic is effective. I'm deliberately leaving you guessing as to what the exact damage is to each mummy.
These are tough monsters! Stop whining and keep kicking butt!
Winterglade AC22 HP46(61) d20+3=7 Wednesday April 4th, 2007 4:51:18 AM
"Mosushi, step back, you are vulnerable! Winterglade will hold the line for now!"
The centaur decides to try to channel the holy power once again. Unfortunately, his focus is not what it used to be [turning undead, turning check 7].
Afraid that if he hides behind his shield the mummy will go against Mosushi, the cleric does not use it to hide completely, instead bracing for another serving of mummy's fists.
"What a Full Moon's Feast! Toros, can you replace Winterglade here? He doesn't fight, he just heals!"
Flat-top AC21/ 106hp d20+14=17 d20+14=15 Wednesday April 4th, 2007 7:07:07 AM
Flat-top listens to Winterglade and start to back up from WW# 2, the notices that he has a circle mark of chocolat fudge around his mouth??
As he is slowly backing towards the battle line, He ask the Bear "Did you do give me some fudge a few minuts ago??" But swinging his sword back and forth to keep the mommifide Wemick at bay!.
Gecktar AC20 HP42 d20+10=11 d20+5=7 Wednesday April 4th, 2007 8:47:42 AM
OOC searing light is ranged touch attack. Did Gecktar really missed a touch AC 17 ?
Gecktar lift his hammer and slams the creature with it but realises he definitively lack some training.
(Hit AC 11 natural 1 and AC 7 natural 2. What wonderfull rolls)
Zeoll (AC17, HP43) (Inspire Courage, Spider Climb, Invisible) d20+9=17 Wednesday April 4th, 2007 9:58:26 AM
Zeoll casts Invisibility on himself and then walks down the wall. He wants to end up next to his croc, flanking wizened wemic #3, But maybe he cannot travel that far in just 40 feet?
As Zeoll moves, he draws his two-handed sword.
Zeoll's Croc takes his second bite at WW#2, gaining a flanking bonus to do so. Note that the Croc, and everyone else, gets a +1/+1 from being inspired! The Croc rolls a 17! He only needs to roll an unmodified 9, but this is his second MISS in a row! Dumb Croc!

"Flee, evil thing, or the flames will consume you!"
It looks like Moshushi is far enough away that he doesn't need to fear attacks of opportunity, though he does need to fear being attacked by undead wemics. He'll move over by Zeoll, and fire another scorching ray at #3. 24 to hit with a ranged touch attack (I learned how to roll in the double digits) for 19 points of damage. Huzzah!.
Inspired for +1 to attack & damage
Toros (AC 23, hp 70/70) Wednesday April 4th, 2007 11:58:02 AM
"I am on my way, Glade!" responses Toros to the call of his friend. The wemic draws his weapon, replacing Winterglade on the front line.

Winterglade continues to make the mummies mad at him (turning undead didn't work at all.)
Flat-top's attacks miss WW2.
Gecktar's blows miss WW4...although, now that he's in a better position to see, it appears that his Searing Light did, indeed, do normal damage. (DM OOC: my apologies...the mummies' AC versus Touch Attacks is only supposed to be 10, but the write-up only had their regular AC in it.)
Zeoll makes his way across the ceiling (invisibly!), making it all the way to the spot just before the double doors. He can get to his intended position next round.
Elton the plucky croc misses his attack. Apparently he hasn't come full circle in life just yet.
Toros and Winterglade trade places.
Bramah hits WW1 twice, the blows appearing to be only half what they should be.
WW1 punches back at Brahmah, a roundhouse right to the head connecting in a quite solid blow (hits AC24). Brahmah is hit for 12hpd and must make a Fort save versus DC16.
WW2 strikes out at Flat-top, one of his blows connecting (hits AC23) for 12hpd. Flat-top must make a Fort save versus DC16.
WW3 swings at Toros, connecting both times! (hits AC24 and AC29 for a total of 25hpd.)
WW4 hits at Gecktar; both blows strike true (hits AC26 and AC29 for 32hpd.)
DM OOC: there is a diagram of the end of Round 4 in the mail to the players.
Winterglade AC22 HP46(61) 2d8(1+7)+7=15 d8=4 Thursday April 5th, 2007 4:06:35 AM
Winterglade runs over to Gecktar [move action, places himself next to him (and to the left of him) but 5 ft away from the mummy] and spends some of his rapidly diminishing stockpile of positive energy [standard action, CMW over Silence, heals Gecktar for 18 damage].
"Char's Temper, Brahmah! Look what's going on! Does somebody have to die before we pull back!?"
Zeoll (AC17, HP43) (Inspire Courage, Spider Climb, Invisible) d20+5=15 d20+11=24 d8+7=13 d20+7=8 Thursday April 5th, 2007 6:22:52 AM
Zeoll moves over to Croc Elton's left, so that he is flanking Wizened Wemic #3, giving the bear a +2 on attacks.
He does not attack, so that his invisibility remains on, but Zeoll does shout encouragement to his croc, offering pointers and distracting the mummy -- that's an Aid Another attempt, for which Zeoll rolls a 15. That's enough to give his Croc a +2.
The croc attacks for the third time! He rolls a 24! A hit! The croc does 13 damage and he gets a free grab with his powerful croc jaws! The Inspired Elton has a +7 grapple modifier, and he rolls a nat 1! No grab for him this round!

Heyoo grunts once more and moves back to form a rallying point for any taur willing to do so.
Brahmah strikes at #1 again, he is unmoving and holkding the line with the others.

Winterglade heals up Gecktar for 18hp.
Zeoll reaches his intended destination and is now on the floor with the others.
Elton chomps down on WW2 (even though there was no mention that he was specifically targeting that one {hint!} in the post,) doing some damage.
Even though Flat-top has been missing his blows of late, he truly comes through by striking WW2 with all four of his attacks! There's still the feeling that smacking these mummies around physically just isn't as effective as it normally would be, though...(DM OOC: no crits versus Undead.)
Bramah's blows to WW1 do some damage.
Heyoo reluctantly withdraws to take his place between Winterglade and Mosushi.
Toros defends himself!
Mosushi fires off a missile at WW3, hitting it for 2 whole hit points!!!
WW1 continues to battle the leader of the Chosen, one of blows smacking solidly into the minotaur. (Hits AC29 for 14hpd; Brahmah must roll a Fort save versus DC16.)
WW2 punches at Flat-top, missing both times thanks to the chomping Elton on one of its rear legs...looks like someone's saved Flat-top's life tonight!
WW3 strikes at Winterglade, missing both times!
WW4 strikes at Toros the Defender, missing both times!
DM OOC: please remember to roll your Fort saves when called upon--AND post the result in your post. Thank you.

Winterglade heals Flat-top for 18hp...and uses his knowledge of healing to recall something rather important (OOC: made 19 for a Heal check): it takes 24 hours for Mummy Rot to incubate in a victim's body.
Toros continues to totally defend himself.
Both of Flat-top's blows strike WW2, although they only appear to be halfway effective.
Brahmah's single blow to WW1 is as effective as Flat-top's was.
Mosushi might consider getting spectacles, as WW4 dodges the Web quite easily. (OOC: WW4 made his Reflex save with a natural 20 for a total of 23.)
Gecktar's touch attack does full damage!
Zeoll idly wonders if, the next time he summons an animal, he might try for a Honky Cat rather than a crocodile...
WW1 throws two punches at Brahmah; both of them are direct hits! (OOC: hits AC22 and AC27 for 9hpd and 16hpd respectively; Brahmah must roll two Fort Saves versus DC16.)
WW2 strikes at Flat-top, in spite of looking more than a little hacked-up by now; one blow hits Flat-top squarely on one shoulder! (OOC: hits AC28 for 15hpd; Flat-top must make a Fort Save versus DC16.)
WW3 whales away at Toros, missing by a mile both times!
WW4 gets his revenge by smacking into Gecktar with one of his fists. (OOC: hits AC26 for 11hpd; Gecktar must roll a Fort Save versus DC16.)

"This is it" - the centaur exclaims sadly - "Winterglade is all out of healing. It's just wands from now on."
[Jay, next round I need to draw a wand, so I won't be able to move further than 5 ft if I want to heal. If you stay put I'll reach you in round 8. If you move over to me - next round.]

Looking very bad and bloody now, well over half dead. Where was a support healer when you need one? His orders/suggestions go unheard. Everyone is doing there own thing, which is alright in most cases, but this is combat. "Mosushi, please assist me with this one. Gecktar, fall back and heal yourself! Heyoo, protect Gecktar's retreat! SOMEONE LISTEN TO ME!"
Brahmah fights. literally, for his life. (All four hit, for 11, 7, 14 and 7 damage) Alot more satisfied with this attack, the minotaur takes a 5ft step back. ------------------------ Prepared Spells: Alarm x2*, Protection from Energy earth

Winterglade heals Gecktar for 16hp.
Gecktar has failed one Fort Save; he heals himself for 24hp.
Flat-top's sword strikes WW2 twice, and one of his hooves crunches solidly into the mummy as well. (OOC: you have Flat-top's sheet, YOU roll the damage that one of the hooves does. Hurry up--you never know when that extra few hit points can help these tough things to fall over dead.)
Mosushi aims his Web wand and fires...both Wizened Wemics dodge the newest bunch of sticky stuff to grace the immediate area. [i](OOC: Reflex Saves were 20 and 14.)
Zeoll successfully Aids his plucky croc, who manages to bite WW2, even if Elton doesn't get to grapple. Can you feel the love tonight?
Brahmah (in spite of a failed Fort Save) lays the smackdown on WW1, pummeling the mummy severely about the head and shoulders.
Heyoo successfully Aids Gecktar's retreat...in spite of briefly wondering that maybe it would be a good idea to let Gecktar get whacked--that way Heyoo could get Gecktar's share of the food..? Nawww...
Toros is totally defensive (still).
WW1 follows Brahmah, stepping up to the minotaur and provoking not only an Attack of Opportunity from the ranger, but also from Flat-top as well. If he isn't destroyed, the next two blows aimed at Brahmah hit AC29 and AC23 for 10hpd and 11hpd respectively; Brahmah must roll two more Fort Saves versus DC16. Both Brahmah and Flat-top must resolve their AoO's before this officially happens.
WW2 tries to hit Flat-top again, with only one blow actually striking (hits AC23 for 10hpd.) Flat-top must roll a Fort Save versus DC16.
WW3 battles the defensive Toros; both blows miss!
WW4 steps towards the retreating Gecktar; this provokes an Attack of Opportunity from both Heyoo and Gecktar. Both blows miss Gecktar, thanks to Heyoo's successful Aid to the minotaur. Both Heyoo and Gecktar must resolve their AoO's before any of their other actions for Round 8 take place.

[Actions happen after AoOs but before everyone else acts.]
Winterglade pulls out a wand of CMW from his pocket [move action (?)] and steps closer to Brahmah [5ft step to SW].
"Move over here, Captain. Healing's on the way."
[Standard action: ready action. Winterglade will take this action after Brahmah acts:
1. If Brahmah ends up within reach of Winterglade (and it looks as if a 5ft step would be enough for him) he will heal him with the wand for 2d8+3 - Jay please roll healing.
2. If Brahmah does not move over to Winterglade he will attempt to turn undead instead. Donna please make this roll if needed, Winterglade's turning check is at +3, cleric level 7.]

Since he's in between the two Statues, He cannot use his hooves attack. "Come on Die will YOU!!" he yells at then.

Elton tries one last time! Zeoll is not aiding him.
Croc's roll to bite, at +3: a 15 misses! The unlucky croc disappears back to his next gig at the great nightclub in the sky. That spell is over.
Zeoll, meanwhile, has heard Brahmah's call for healing. The liontaur moves over to the far side of Brahmah, at the minotaur's left. Since he is invisible and thus has total concealment, Zeoll provokes no attacks of opportunity, so he is not afraid to walk past the mummies.
At Brahmah's side, Zeoll casts his light curing spell. Brahmah regains 6 hp. Zeoll murmurs, "Sorrry brrotherr. Best I could do."

Flat-top's hoof strike in the previous round seems to have a peculiar delayed-reaction effect on WW2...the mummy suddenly shudders and collapses, turning into a pile of dust and dry bones!
Brahmah's and Flat-top's AoO's do some damage, and the rest of Flat-top's regular attacks for the round finish off WW1...another pile of dust and bones joins the first one on the floor!
Gecktar & Heyoo get their licks in on WW4, doing some damage.
Between's Flat-top's actions and Winterglade's maneuvering, Brahmah is in position for Winterglade to heal him for 15hp! (DM OOC: I rolled it, since I didn't see it included in Brahmah's post.)
Gecktar takes his 5-foot-step, but the distance between him and Brahmah is too great for Gecktar to go and heal him. Gecktar may cast the Cure spell on himself or on Toros instead.
Zeoll squeezes into the area and heals Brahmah for another 6hp.
Mosushi--seeing that WW1 is dead (again)--places the summoned Celestial Dog so that it flanks WW4 in opposition to Heyoo. Both Huck and Heyoo will get a Flanking bonus next round.
Toros finally smacks WW3 for some damage.
WW3 seems so startled that Toros has decided to strike back that it rattles the mummy into missing both strikes at the technically-no-longer-defensive Taur.
WW4 directs its rage at Heyoo, but the bear deftly dodges the fists aimed his way.

Flat-top will start to mak his way to help Toros. "Oh! That was a good hit! A bastard sword will do it every time!! Now keep in mind that I'll comming around you to help!"
Flat-top will start his way around. Hoping not to bump into too many Taurs??
Cure Brahmah wounds of 7hp.

Gecktar moves and heals Brahmah for 27hp.
Winterglade heals Toros for 16hp.
Flat-top heals Brahmah for 7hp before moving into position to aid Toros.
Zeoll sees that there is not nearly enough room for him to charge either of the mummies from behind (there IS those two Webs in the way, however he does move into position so that he's behind WW4.
Mosushi's Magic Missile strikes WW4 for three whole hit points!
Brahmah finally remembers that he has an Alarm spell he's trying to keep track of, but the threat of the remaining mummies is such that he can't be sure if the tingling he's experiencing is either his spider sense for danger or the spell going off. (DM OOC: rolled a Concentration check for Brahmah versus DC20...he only got a 14.) He moves in front of WW4 and strikes true for some damage.
Both Zeoll and Brahmah will have Flanking bonuses on WW4 next round.
Heyoo wonders if the dried skin of the mummies would make a tasty jerky for him to snack on..?
Toros hits WW3, doing some damage.
WW3 strikes at Toros, missing both times. It seems that Toros fighting back is very intimidating to the mummy.

Round 11 - DM Donna d20+8=24 Monday April 16th, 2007 2:37:36 AM
Winterglade draws the ire of the two mummies in the room with his fruitless attempt to turn them once again.
Flat-top manages to hit WW3 two times out of three, doing some damage.
Gecktar's touch attack has no effect on a pile of dust and bone fragments on the ground, but it does half-way effect WW3.
Three of Bramah's attacks manage to pulverize WW into dust and bones rattling around on the floor.
Mosushi's magic missile plows into WW3 for full damage.
Zeoll misses (he missed last round, too, sorry!)...but he still has a song in his heart.
Toros strikes a mighty blow--shattering the last evil mummy lord to pieces!
The battle is over, and now that it is, Brahmah suddenly realizes--to his horror--that the alarm bells going off in his head for the last 11 rounds has been hisAlarm Spell!
Winterglade HP46(61) Monday April 16th, 2007 5:07:01 AM
Winterglade moves over to examine those wounded by the mummies. He rises his eyebrow in surprise. Then he walks over to the piles of dust and shifts them a bit with his hoof.
"We were lucky. These were created in the third era. Were they made half an era later the malady they carry would have started eating away at your lifeforces just about now. It would have been resistant to any attempts to end it, too. You would have had an estimated livespan of two to three days."
"Even the weaker disease is nasty, though. Gecktar, Winterglade is afraid curing it will be entirely up to you. With the big reptiles prowling around he won't have a chance to run and restore his energies until we come back to Ffft."
"In the meantime" - Winterglade pulls out the lesser wand of healing - "maybe we should patch ourselves back to strength. If anyone has any free healing to spare go ahead and cast it. Winterglade will finish off healing with the wand."
[DM, is there enough time for us to do healing, or are we still counting time in rounds?]
[Everyone check damage, please. Winterglade is 46(61). It might be best to use free healing first, and only then burn charges from the wand. Who failed saves?]
The centaur approaches Brahmah, taps him on the shoulder, and asks: "Winterglade has trouble understanding hornhead batte tactics. So far he noticed it can be summarized as <get'em!>. Please tell Winterglade, what was the advantage of accepting the fight here, on their terms, instead of, say, luring them to the pit at the entrance and fighting them over the bridge one at a time?"
Flat-top Monday April 16th, 2007 5:12:30 AM
Flat-top watching the statue crumble, look back to Toros "What do you mean BEER?? Beer are for Dwarf! Now a good tankard of Ale will hit the spot! You gor it next we go to the G&G.
"What the matter Captain? You seem to be hearing bells??" ask Flat-top.
(Flat-top only need 6hp of healing, thanks Winterglade)

Game # 7 Tha Chosen of Domi. For The week of April 9,2007
Adm Ceil - Oh! What a game we have here, we almost got our tails clip in this battle.
Brahmah (Helm of Languages, Alarm at door 3 hours) [AC 22, HPS 77/105] Heyoo (AC 16, hps 44/45) Monday April 16th, 2007 6:47:51 AM
"Not now Glade! We have company!" The minotaur turns away from the doors. "Defensive spells. Healing. We stand again. We have been followed."
The captain then turns back to the doors and the Chosen. "We must get inside before whoever it is reaches this point. Our battle will have been heard."
Brahmah moves to open the doors. He decides now is a good time for explainations, he may not get another chance. "Flat-top and myself are our main offensive fighters. Our support, the spellcasters help to heal and defend us. But the two or three of us with fighting experience must hold the line so that the rest are not killed. That was a nearly perfect set up in this tunnel, but tactics would have been different in an open field or on a ship. With combat, its a gut thing, you have to follow how you feel in the instant. Over-thinking a situation can often get you killed." He looks at Glade, "Had one of you ran, or I fell or fled, there would be several dead Chosen here, me included. I didn't say 'get em', I said hold the line. Why? Because if they had surrounded one of us, that Chosen might be dead now. We become a living wall of blades and hooves. We can Aid one another in that formation."
"As for your plan to lure them to the pit, if you might realize now, we would have been caught between the pit and the mummies. Not a bad plan in and of itself..." He trails off.
"But now, I fear we have bigger fish to fry. The intruders have passed the pit and my Alarm spell was activated a couple of minutes ago. We have an hour, maybe less, before we are fighting again I fear. Do any of us have a Pass without Trace or something that can erase the chaos of the battle?" Brahmah wishes he have bought those scrolls or the dust.
Brahmah additional Monday April 16th, 2007 7:11:33 AM
Brahmah failed one save.
Mosushi Monday April 16th, 2007 10:50:11 AM
"If we are being followed, perhaps we should prepare an ambush. We know the route they will take to get here, and can choose a spot we like. Preferably one allowing a fireball. If we are indeed followed bya foe, as seems likely."
Winterglade [additional] Monday April 16th, 2007 11:48:40 AM
Winterglade's mouth drops open.
"You had a fireball and didn't cast it at the mummies?"
Brahmah Monday April 16th, 2007 11:57:46 AM
"Who had a fireball?" Asks the captain. "I would taken a blast up the tail the get rid of those. But now at least if we have a fireball, we can use it on these potential enemies." He looks back down the tunnel.
Zeoll (AC17, HP43) (Spider Climb) Monday April 16th, 2007 4:45:54 PM
OOC: Perhaps a refresher on the room's description would be helpful:
It is a large map of Wemic Isle, done in amazing detail, with a golden star in the northwestern, mountainous region that the group is now located at. No doubt the star was to indicate where the Veiled Queen's ziggurat now stands. The mosaic map is a true work of art--it must have taken the artisans who laid it out a massive amount of time and effort to make the map so beautiful and faithful to the geography of the island. It is absolutely amazing.
"The dangerr of opening the doorr is that we may be in anotherr fight when ourr enemies catch us frrom behind. We should at least considerr setting up ourr encounter herre."
"These benches might be useful in prroviding coverr."
Zeoll looks at where the mummies crashed out of the walls. Are there niches there? Could a Taur fit in there? Is there anything inside there?
He also looks at the mummies corpses. Did they have anything on them? Zeoll casts a Detect Magic to look at the mummies and the niches, as well as the doors.
Zeoll offers an idea to his friends: If I can get a little bit of time, I can tarrget fourr of the enemy with Charrm spells. My magic is harrd to rresist (DC20 Will saves). I also have a Suggestion spell. Togetherr, these maight give us a grreat advantage beforre a fight."
"If we can charrm Varrgas himself -- forr surrely that is who is behind us -- then that would be a grreat advantage."
"One option would be for me to charrm and suggest, and if they take, then talk with the enemy on my own. I could convince them that I am a turrncoat. (As once I trruly was, as they prrobably know.) That could get me some crrucial inforrmation. I could even bluff my way into convincing them that they should fall back and wait outside forr you to rreurrn, then ambush the parrty. That would give you the time you need to get the sworrd firrst."
"If only I had a simple illusion -- of a wall, say -- to hide behind while I cast my spells. And maybe some auditorry illusions or otherr sounds to coverr the sound of my spell casting. Mosushi, do you have anything like that?"
"Or I could hide on the ceiling and cast frrom therre. That would worrk forr a spell orr two. But I would need some coverr. Maybe in these niches, if they werre then blocked by the benches?"
"I might also use my Obscurring Mist, but I have to be able to see them to cast the Charrms."

OOC: Failed one save too
Gecktar retrieves a wand he has made and gently taps Winterglade two times (healing 16hp). He turns to Brahmah following him and gives him three healing (healing 14hp)
He looks around to see if anyone else needs more healing. But Brahmah and himself seem the most affected.
"I agree with you Zeoll. Opening the door may bring us to a more potent foe. I have in mind that the Lady could easily be a lich. If we face her and the probable emisaries of Vargas, even Vargas himself, we would be in dire situation."
Toros (AC 23, hp 61/70) Tuesday April 17th, 2007 12:42:58 AM
Toros struggles to move from one source of imminent danger to another upcoming one, listening silently the suggestions.
Aftermath - DM Donna Tuesday April 17th, 2007 2:36:47 AM DM OOC: after going over the posts for Rounds 1 through 11, I have counted up the following:
Brahmah, Heyoo, and Gecktar failed at least one Fort Save each.
Gecktar failed to even roll for a Fort Save five times out of the six times that he was hit by a mummy.
Toros failed to even roll for a Fort Save two times out of the three that he was hit by a mummy.
Flat-top failed to roll a Fort Save once (the very first time a mummy hit him, if I read the posts correctly.)
Out of fairness to the others who DID roll their Fort Saves, I would ask Gecktar, Toros and Flat-top to please roll their missed rolls in their next posts.)
The Chosen discuss tactics as Brahmah estimates a possible time of arrival of whomever...or whatever...may have tripped the Alarm spell.
Zeoll examines the walls that the mummies ripped themselves out of--there are four wemic-sized spaces in the wall, but they are rather tight fits for the living Taurs. They wouldn't make roomy hiding places.
Winterglade again contemplates the known nature of mummy rot: the first symptoms of the Constitution-draining disease will show 24 hours after contraction, unless the disease is cured.

OOC; The Missing Fort Check - 25.
Flat-top listens to the conversation that going on!! That is untill he heard his Captain saying "an hour before we fight again!"
Flat-top turns facing the stairs, goes into his pouch, takes out his wet stone and starts to sharpen his Bastard Sword. He's getting ready to fihght again. . . .
Winterglade d8+1=9 d8+1=7 d8+1=5 Tuesday April 17th, 2007 5:50:12 AM
Winterglade complements Gecktar's healing by using party's lesser wand. He taps Brahmah and Toros [healing Brahmah for 16 and Toros for 5].
"What did you find, Zeoll? No magic loot, huh?"
"If it's really a lich then Winterglade would like to write down his will before going through these doors. But what would a lich be doing locked up in a ziggurat for hundreds of years? Winterglade hopes her soul departed for good. She didn't strike Winterglade as someone who would be content to just surf the astral plane for an epoch or two."
"Maybe it's our guides that set off the Alarm?" - Winterglade wonders, but there isn't much hope in his voice. "If not, then they are probably dead. Winterglade is not looking forward to delivering these news to Ffft."
"Do you really have a fireball ready, Mosushi? Winterglade can make the Captain immune to it. We let the hornhead take a point, and when the enemies swarm around him you can fry them en masse. Just let Winterglade know you have this spell so that he doesn't waste what remains of his magic."

Gecktar take the time he has to prepare for a possible upcoming battle.
He mutters a prayers to Domi and a flash of blue light emanates from him to disapear just after.

Brahmah (Helm of Languages, Alarm at door 3 hours) [AC 22, HPS 77/105] Heyoo (AC 16, hps 44/45) Tuesday April 17th, 2007 10:23:09 AM
"Zeoll and Glade both have great ideas. I'll just wait here while my horns rot off from the mummy rot thing." The captain looks at the remains of the mummy wrappings and the cubby which they broke out of. "A false wall is a brilliant idea. But I think that mage that was with Vargas was pretty smart. They'll know what we are capable of. Although..." He looks at the newest group members. "I don't think he knows of Mo, Jack, or Glade. Does anyone have Meld with Stone? Or Stone Shape? Maybe we can force our ways into the stone to hide or to move through the stones." --------------------------- Resources: Metamagic Rod of Extend, Lesser (unused today) Toros' Lesser Philter - Shield x3 Detect Poison x5 scrolls Bear's Endurance Scroll Antitoxin x5

Mosushi Tuesday April 17th, 2007 12:37:45 PM
"fireball is ready. If someone is not affected by flames, it's an option. Otherwise, we will all be cooked. Sadly, no illusions."
Zeoll Tuesday April 17th, 2007 10:09:23 PM
Zeoll ponders the timing. "Brrahmah, you rreally think we have an hourr? Maybe we should prress on in the hope of finding a betterr place to make ourr ambush. At the least, we could take these benches and use them to barrricade the doorr. They would have to brreak thrrough the doorr to get to us, and while they do that I could be charrming them."
Zeoll thinks that Gecktar's spell will run out before they get here, so we might as well make use of it by pressing forward.
If a few of us could hide in these niches, they could come out and attack from the rear if a fight breaks out. We need some way to hide the niches, though.
Zeoll is thinking out loud.
What if we go back and get that tapestry. We open this door and deal with whatever is behind them. Then we close the doors so that there is just a crack. Use the benches to block the door so that a crack is all it can be opened.
I am on the other side of the door on the ceiling. Two fighters are in this room in niches behind a couple benches propped up. The other niches are covered by the tapestry.
When the enemy enters this room, I start casting charm through the crack. I'll have 90% cover, and they will hear me casting. Almost surely they will start to break through the door. I keep casting, hopefully charming one or two. We also make a distraction, maybe using mage hand or some such to make the tapestry move. That will distract them more. The moving tapestry will distract them from the people hiding in the niches. With any luck, what with the door to break through, the tapestry distraction, and so on, I'll get off my 4 charms and then the suggestion. We'll be able to negotiate from a position of strength with half or more of them on our side and with us flanking them fore and aft.
We could try to bluff a number of things. That they should leave. That we should team up to get the sword and then decide later. That they should convert to good. Who knows what we might improvise. That we can buy them off. All that would be a distraction until we can get the upper hand.
Thoughts?
Toros (AC 23, hp 61/70) d20+12=23 d20+12=28 Wednesday April 18th, 2007 12:18:47 AM
Toros slowly recovers from the fight and responds to the comments of other Chosen
"Zeoll, I have a couple of Illusion scrolls, Would some ghost sound or ventriloquism help?"
(fortitute saves 23 & 28, and only 9 hps down)
Zeoll Wednesday April 18th, 2007 12:50:17 AM
"Ventrriloquism and Ghost Sound would be grreat! If therre arre severral places with the sound of spells being cast, they won't know wherre the rreal casterr is!"
"We could put up the Tapestrry as a distrraction on the otherr side of the rroom, put fourr of us in the niches, and use a simple illusion of a wall to coverr the open niches."
"Mage hand to move the Tapestrry. Maybe a conjurred crreaturre as a distrraction. All that should give me the fourr orr five rrounds I need to pull it off."
Making More Plans - DM Donna Wednesday April 18th, 2007 2:18:13 AM DM OOC: thank you, everyone, for rolling those Fort saves again.
The Chosen begin to plan, with very good suggestions and interesting tactics. (To clarify, the hollowed-out sections of the walls would be located on either side of the stone doors that lead to who-knows-where.)
It feels as the Fates themselves are holding their breath to see what the definitive outcome of the planning will be...
Winterglade Wednesday April 18th, 2007 5:53:12 AM
Winterglade moves over to Brahmah and puts his hand on his shoulder. A wave of heat like from a furnace passes through his fingers [Spell Immunity: Fireball on Brahmah. Will last 70 minutes].
"There Captain, all fireproof. And don't worry about the horns, you'll look better without them."
"Looks like we are as ready as we are going to be. Winterglade is going to open the big doors now."
The centaur looks around. If nobody yells "Don't!" He is going to move over to the big double doors-
"You better stand back, there might be another trap."
-and push them open.
Zeoll Wednesday April 18th, 2007 6:47:31 AM
Zeoll has another thought in the moments BEFORE the door is opened ...
Let's just say Zeoll manages to charm three or four of the enemy AND makes a successful suggestion that the two groups work together. Then Zeoll comes up with a reason that the combined group should split up again -- Zeoll and all the charmed ones should go to the entrance of the pyramid, and the rest stay together. As soon as Zeoll and the charmed ones are gone, the rest of the party attacks the ones who are left. Later, Zeoll brings them back and the party takes care of that half.
Flat-top Wednesday April 18th, 2007 7:38:38 AM
Flat-top listens to every body's plans, But Winterglade opens the door???
He'll move sideways to see what behind the Door and what just show up coming down the stairs ( taking no chances )
Gecktar Wednesday April 18th, 2007 11:41:23 AM "Good idea Zeoll. But we have no certitude that your spells will work. Nor the reaction of those you aren't charming. But I thing that we best face them now than no one knows when."
"If they have evils intends... Then facing them while prepared is better than having them running in our back..."
"Everything done is not to be done..."
Once again Gecktar call for the divine power of Domi to protect him

Moshushi Wednesday April 18th, 2007 11:46:31 AM
"Summoning creatures as a distraction isn't a problem. i can also make someone invisible, but only one. If we can get a bunch together, I'm sure i can web them. I think mummies mmight have some sort of resistance to webs. Webs also burn well when hit by fireballs. "
Brahmah (Helm of Languages, Alarm at door 3 hours) [AC 22, HPS 97/105, Immune to Fireball] Heyoo (AC 16, hps 44/45) Wednesday April 18th, 2007 12:46:07 PM
To Zeoll, "I was being optimistic. I think we have significantly less than an hour if it is the Dark One's minions or whatever they are calling themselves now."
Brahmah listens to all the suggestions, still curious why several taurs think the last battle could have been better. But he doesn't bring it up now. "Immune to only Fireball. Good enough for me. I'll play bait then."
"I think we should take our chances, open the doors and make our stand inside. Barricades good. Using the crack to charm great. Webs as they enter this hall."
"There is no place to run Gecktar. I will never suggest running if I think the fight can be won. I may also call for a tactical withdrawl, but Chosen don't run."
Brahmah additional Wednesday April 18th, 2007 12:48:20 PM

Winterglade Thursday April 19th, 2007 2:44:42 AM
[Sorry for an early post, won't be able to post later today!]
"You have Invisibility, too? This is great, we can send someone up front to see what is coming to get us. But first let's see what is behind door #1."
"Just for the record, Winterglade does not have problems with running away. Brawler demands courage from him, but also ability to distinguish courage from stupid pride. Winterglade will not throw his life away if it serves no purpose."
