The Stone Giant Cave

Before the three scouts leave, Belkior casts status on them so he can feel if they are in trouble. The halfling waits for the bad news hoping it doesn't come but just knowing in his bones that it will. These three seem to find trouble.

Angus after casting his spells and watching the others go, seems to be second guessing the decisions and wonders how they are going to take out the sentries.

Xenia checks out the dwarves and sees they are wearing heavy chains. They are more hobbled than anything else and though they do have the tools on them to break the chains, it would obviously be noisy.

Xenia decides to make a distraction and when nobody is looking, throws a firestick into one of the ogre's bedding. It seems to sit for a second or two and suddenly the bed catches fire. A dark oily smoke starts rising and a strange popping sound starts to occur. Xenia with distaste thinks it is lice cooking off.

Bin sits and discusses tactics with the non scouts waiting for his chance to kill some giants.

Wynn gets a little confused as he was hit on the head in the last battle and thinks that the Ogre Mage is still around but Angus quickly takes credit for that kill.

Lang tries to pull Syr along with him and whispers in his invisible ear..or is that his nose? Syr remains really quiet. Still the bugbear ranger takes in the details. It looks like 20 or so ogres could bed down here, but rememebering some of his previous kills with a grin, figures the numbers have been thinned lately. Still the beds look a little short for giants.

The work on the cavern is extensive and Lang wonders if only 3 dwarves could have done it. The answer is yes but it would have taken a long time. Course dwarves live a long time.

When the fire starts to smolder, the wolves let out a howl and rise to their feet. It draws the attention of the ogres who start pointing and laughing. One isn't as he rushes over and tries to put the fire out by slapping a blanket on it. He growls something at his friends sounding like a plea for help but they seem to busy pointing and laughing to do much else.

Lang is standing by the corridor mouth waiting to see if Syr has anything to say about what he has seen in the cave when the fire breaks out.

Lang whispers softly to Syr, "Do you think that is Xenia's doing? Maybe she is trying to see the reaction of the ogres and if anything else shows up."

Lang waits patiently, keeping his eyes and ears peeled for Xenia or anything else.

He replies in a low voice to Lang, "Could be she does. Regardless, we only have a moment more to watch and then need to go. I they detect us, the scouting trip will be for naught as we give up our advantage of surprise." Jerking his invisible head at the far tunnel, "I'm more worried about possible reinforcements coming. Think Belkie can wall up that tunnel, while we take care of business?"

Syr looks around the cave and at the bedrolls for any signs that one of the ogres can use magic. Unsure what exactly to look for, he just examines the area for things Angus carries around.

Xenia is thinking. Angles, angles, angles. Figuring the angles.

Just get up about five feet off the ground. Then run! They bite atcha when you run through, but then you're gone! Not on the ground, so nothing to track you by. Then, once you're through, cut your arm a bit. Belkie sees your injured, and the guys zap right in.

Woo hoo!

Then things start to look funny all around. Like something's different in the Wold. The rogue sits tight, trying to get a grasp on just what might be happening before jumping in.

Bin's day involves prayers to Domi as the group is split. On the return he will ask them all, "Should we do another Divination for knowledge? I think it will be alright as long as it's not in regard to the last one a few days ago."

OK guys, I hear your frustration and I apologize for it. Hope this post fixes the problems and we can move forward.

The scouts quickly leave during the distraction of the burning bed. They fly past the guards peering down the tunnel entrance no doubt wondering what the commotion is. The scouts make it back to the others and report in on what they see.

Bin casts his divinitation spell (ask the questions in your next post and I will give you the results in my next DM post)

The group beds down and soon all are asleep. Only in the morning do you discover you didn't post a guard. Still nothing seemed to have happened and everyone wakes refreshed and ready to kick some serious tail.

I need spell lists from everyone and what the plan is for today.

Lang wakes up in the morning all refreshed. He quickly studies for his two spells. He goes over the game plan with the group.

"Ok, so I am going to go to the cave mouth, invisible, and start attacking the two guards. Give me five minutes to get up there and get in position. I am going to cast Resist Fire on myself so do not hesitate to cast mass flame spells."

Lang casts his two spells on himself and gets the invisibility spell from Angus. He then moves up to the cave mouth and attacks the guards, trying to eliminate them in the surprise round.

Angus is please to see Lang take the reins "You know these beasts best. Sounds good to me."

Angus looks to the group "I will cast Invisibility on Lang, Xenia and Syr. We can use the five minutes window to cast spells on ourselves and wait for Lang's attack signal. It also give Xenia plenty of time to set up her mischief. At Lang's signal, I will dimension door the balance of the group 40 feet from your location."

Angus looks to WYnn "Do you want to set up a dual message net for better coverage?"

ANgus will not cast his spells on the group until he can see the two orge guards, to make sure the situation has not changed.

When the time for the attack approaches Angus lays his hands on Bin and Belkior. "Wynn grab hold of someone and get ready for a ride." Angus squeeks as a pixie. Once Lang becomes visible Angus will dimension door the rest of the group to within 40 feet of the orges.

The halfling cleric performs his devotions in the morning, requesting aid and grace from Alemi. When Lang initiates the discussion, Belkior will provide his input and then help prepare the scouts. While he won't injure the ogres himself, he will help his companions.

First, he casts Air Walk on Xenia so the the rogue can move about more quickly. Since everyone will be staying together, or close enough, he won't bother casting Status. Then he recites the request to Alemi that will Bless everyone. However, Xenia had talked about using Silence so he finishes by casting that spell on a pebble that he finds on the ground.

After the magic takes effect, Belkior hands the pebble to the rogue and watches her scamper across the clearing.

Then he moves beside Angus, concentrating on the horizon and trying not to think of the nausea he might feel when they teleport.

When you know everything you're going to get, then you know everything you need to know. With the new morning, the Prep is going up.

"Thanks Belkie." Xenia walks on air again as she kisses Wynn one last time before becoming invisible. Life can so easily come to a short and ugly end. "I love you, Wynn," she whispers, her voice thick with emotion.

Back to business. The Striding spell had gone well earlier. Xenia stands at the edge of the Silence and reads another, faster spell. She nods as she feels its magic, and the Invisibility settles on her too. Dashing forward, Xenia scoops up the pebble and makes for the two ogres at the cave entrance at a run.

On the way she pockets the stone and draws her rapier. Rapier in one hand and Staff in the other, she lines up behind one of the big uglies, waiting till one of the other guys strikes. Then, with a quick adjust, she steps to the other side of the brute and stabs the kidneys.

That night Bin casts his Divination again and asks the question, "Are there any other bases or hideout's these creatures use, on the outside of the cave or fort, we have not seen?"

In the morning, Bin's legs quiver with emotion as they begin their plans. Eager to rescue the slaves and end the life of these villans. He listens closely to the conversation in preperation.

"OOC Travelling tonight and I am posting in a hotel lobby on a hotel computer since the internet access promised for the room seemed to be an error. Hence I don't have access to my normal books, so I apologize for any mistakes.

Bin casts his questions to the ether and the answer comes back, "Spiderhole traps have yet to be discovered."

The next morning the group flies into action and Lang and Xenia prove their deadliness with thier chosen weapons by easily taking down the two guard ogres. One does get a shout of fear as he watches Lang strike down his partner but is quickly silenced by Xenia tearing out his kidneys and the silence spell she has on her person.

Angus seeing the others strike down the foes, casts his dimension door and takes Who with him? Syr, Bin Belkior and Wynn are clustered around the mage.

Which ever 3 he chooses will go along for the ride and find themselves close to the cave entrance. (Please post your choices in your next post Jim.)

Lang moves out of the silence area and whistles for Sunshine. The large dog eagerly starts to run the few hundred yards to join Lang. Lang then moves back towards the cave mouth and peers down the corridor for signs of movement.

Momentum. Gotta keep the ball rolling. And get this Silence thing away from the Spell Guys.

Xenia spares a moment to sheathe her slim rapier and palm the Stone of Silence. She holds it up in the air and then turns her thumb in the direction of the cave mouth. After climbing up a safe distance into the air, she gives the guys a wink for good luck, or for good morale, or for something jaunty and up beat like that.

Then she begins her run. Staff in one hand stone in the other, she runs through the upper air of the cavern toward the mysterious tunnel on the other side. With any luck, all eyes will turn to her and all the Ogres will be looking at her when the guys come in behind them. At the far wall, over the tunnel, up up and above the heads of the two big wolves, Xenia turns and takes the staff in both hands, unobtrusively dropping the pebble in the process.

Feet braced apart, the dark rogue stares down with a defiant look, ready to take on all comers. Of course, being up and out of reach does help some in this.

Angus dimension doors with those friends he can see (Bin, Belkior and Wynn), assuming that as according to the plan Syr is helping kill the ogres. "Man I love that spell. Everyone make it alright."

Angus sees Xenia take off and quietly mummers "Good Luck girl." Angus continues to hum to himself so that he can find the edge of the silence spell."

The halfling cleric pads along on his cat feet, staying close to Angus and Bin. Belkior glances at the bodies of the guards and concludes that they are beyond his skill. Unfortunately, really, that this couldn't have been concluded without their deaths.

As he moves 15 feet behind Lang and the other fighters, Belkior tries to tell what is going on up ahead. The change to the dark cave has affected his vision so he doesn't spot anything, but his ears are still working. And he manages not to bang into anything, this time.

The group stands around the doorway until both Syr and Sunshine catch up which takes around 30 seconds and then Xenia starts to move down the tunnel ahead of the others. Since she is moving fast, she easily outdistances the others.

Syr requests a spell from Angus but the request is initially ignored at least for now.

Bin casts a summon monster spell but its effects won't happen until next round. (ooc Little question on the timing here. I decided for it to come next round or your spell might be older than you wanted. This way you can place it in the room if you want.)

Wynn strangly quiet moves along with the others worried about Xenia rushing ahead.

Once Xenia enters the cavern, combat rounds and movement start. Xenia climbs higher into the room and starts moving towards the doorway. (ooc couldn't quite make it to where you were heading but got you close)

Once Xenia makes her dramatic appearance, all hell breaks out in the room. Most of the ogres were gathered around the tables, eating and playing ogre games, when the drow female makes her appearance. After a second of mouth dropping astonishment, a curt order is barked and the spring up and start running for the weapons racks on the south wall. While Xenia can see that most of the ogres are armed with personal weapons like giant clubs, the weapons rack has large crossbows and extra long spears that could cause her some discomfort if applied to her flesh. (Not sure if you would want to drop the stone where you are so I will let you choose if you still want to hold it.)

Only the ogre leader seems unruffled and he calmly reaches into a pocket and sucks down a potion and promptly disappears. He was near the scaffolding when last seen.

The dire wolves start to bark and growl but maintain their position by the other tunnel.

Angus is happy to see Syr and Sunshine join the group, but it did cost them time.

"Is everyone ready to move forward now? Alright then, Fighters up front, Lang, Wynn and Syr. Speak up Syr so I know where you are?"

If Syr speaks up, Angus will polymorph him into a Troll.

Go for the goal. It's her job. Xenia runs for the top of the open passageway. Only when she reaches it, does the rogue turn and look.

Uh-oh. It's not hard to see the long spears and the big ol' crossbows in the wooden rack. That's bad. She looks around for someplace to hide. Duck into the tunnel? Not good. Xenia looks down at the big pups down below. They're yipping with their mouths, but no sound is coming out. That remembers her, and she just lets go her hand and the pebble drops away.

Suddenly she can hear again. There's the stomp of big feet as the Ogre guys go for their pokey stuff. Xenia grips the staff, ready to defend herself. Then she remembers what kind of staff she's holding. The ogre guys can't stab and shoot her if they can't get to their weapons. She holds the staff up like the Ogre Mage guy did the other day, waving it and talking the same gobbltygook that it was doing.

Whatever it was, musta worked. Next thing you know, a Wall of Fire, high as she is up in the air cuts across the corner from wall to wall, sealing off the weapons rack.

Syr comes to an invisible attention stance in front of Angus and then whispers, "Present and accounted for, go for it."

He feels rather than sees his body expand as the spell is cast. Flexing one clawed hand he leaves the others to race ahead. Recalling the cave from earlier, he moves toward the other exit but makes sure to stay at least 30' away from the dogs.

(Troll Polymorph +5 Nat Armor, +12 Str & Con, +4 Dex)

Sorry Syr, you get the strength of a troll but not as a troll character only as a troll as described in the monster manuel. Str 23 +6, Dex of 14 (yours went down from 20 +2 and consitution of 23 +6) Your ac is base of 15 +2 for dex and +2 for being on monk or 19. OOC: I am making a few assumptions. Please send me an email at nellieknotts@earthlink.net if I am incorrect.

Assumption #1: The following spellcasters move forward their move rate after casting their spells: Angus, Wynn, Bin, Angus and Belkior.

Assumption #2: The following fighter types run into the room (3x move rate): Syr the Troll, Lang and Sunshine,

Popping into the cavern, things move quickly as the group readies itself for the combat to come. Angus, Wynn, Bin, Angus and Belkior each fire off some quick spells before moving toward the cavern opening.

After he casts his spell, Angus briefly feels something big and hairy bush up against him...and catches a whiff of that undeniably terrible scent of Troll. He smiles knowing his invisible comrade is now prepared to do some serious damage.

Xenia drops her pebble and notes that several of the ogre's bellows are immediately silenced. Not wanting to volunteer for piņata duty, Xenia does some quick thinking and waving her hands she miraculously mimics the incantation required to summon the wall of fire. And as a bonus, she manages to catch one of the Ogres (#11) fully behind her newly summoned wall. Howling in pain as his meager clothing catches on fire, the beast drops to the ground in a desperate effort to put out the fire that engulfs his body.

Meanwhile, loving the new strength that courses through his veins, Syr charges into the fray. He can't quit make it to the ogres this round, but thanks to his new form, he finds himself in an excellent position for a full attack next round.

Lang too heads toward the fight. In his rush, he bumps briefly into Syr's big hairy form but quickly moves around him. Knowing full well that those ogre's long arms are useful for more than just back scratching, Lang pulls up just a little short of the creature's long reach.

Bin casts his protective spell before Wynn moves forward. At just about the same time, a large hairy bison appears just behind him. It snorts in anticipation of its new master's orders.

Belkior likewise take the time to fire off a protective spell before he moves alongside Angus.

The ogre's too move into action. Seeing that they can't get to those useful tools on the wall, the ogre's closest to Xenia (O2, 3 &5) decide on a different course of action to rid themselves of this pesky dark elf floating above them. Massive muscles flexing, they attempt to jump up and pull their snack from the sky. Unfortunately, the creatures lack even a basic grasp of the knowledge of physics, and none of them are able to get a purchase on the lass.
Seeing an easier target Ogres 1, 4, 6 and 8 move forward to take on Lang. Being closer, two of the ogre's (6 & 8) are able to take a swing at him, but both attacks clang harmlessly off his armor. The remaining ogres (#1 & 4) are left drooling in anticipation of their upcoming snack.

Looking really confused about the newly sprouted wall of flame in his path, Ogre #9 decides to bite the bullet and run through the flames. Screaming can be heard by those close by as blisters form on the creature's skin. Still, he is successful and begins grabbing up armfuls of the warming weapons.

Ogre #7 looks over at the floating Xenia and his jumping compatriots and decides that maybe he too should join in the fun....certainly looks more fun than running through a big wall of fire.

The halls of the cavern echo with the sounds of combat, ogre screams and dire wolf barking as the combat ramps up. And still...there is no sign of the invisible ogre leader.

OOC: Xenia, which direction do you want the wall to inflict the fire damage?? Toward the weapons, or away?

The Protector pats the Bison on the flank, not being able to pat much higher. He whispers in the bison ear in a language it would understand, Celestial. "My friend, there is an invisible ogre in that cave, smell him out for us and attack him if you can. My friends and I thank you and will provide support." Then tapping it on the rump, sends it off into the cave. Bin follows it fully aware of his surroundings. Light hammer in his right hand, he tells the others, "I'm going for the leader, back me up when you can."

Ummmmm...Bison don't have the Scent special ability. While ogres smell, there is a whole room of orgres that have been here there and everywhere over the past few hours. More than likely, the Bison is going to have no more luck sniffing out the ogre than Bin himself would have. You might want to rethink that command.---Nellie

"Ewe are soooo dumb!"

The dark-skinned girl rogue looks down on the Ogre Guys from the safety of her Airwalking place. *Beah* She sticks a pink tongue out at them and then runs as quickly as her Expeditious magic will allow. There's an invisible Ogre Guy around here somewhere. Time to find him a'fore he gets into hurting anybody.

No use looking for him if he's invisible. The rogue listens real hard. (Listen roll listed below.) From her haversack, she takes out her Gray Bag of Tricks.

Then, Xenia gets the hint of an idea. If I were a big wolf and I smelt something there, but couldn't see it, wouldn't I look to see what it was? While getting ready to pull an animal out of the bag, Xenia watches the Dire Wolves, trying to figure out what they're watching.

Very well, in respect to that, can it find an invisible ogre or should I modify the post please?

The bison could find an invisible creature. But keep in mind the following. A) The room is filled with a large number of ogres. Finding one scent in the middle of all that stench is going to be tricky. B)Scent really only works within 30 feet of the creature.

I guess what I'm saying is that the scent tracking is at best a long shot. If you want a for sure action then I would change my post.---Nellie

As the battle continues, the Shield crank into action.

Taking advantage of his new, cute form Angus floats higher into the sky and casts a gaze around the battlefield. So far all he can see is a bunch of not too bright ogres and some oddly silent dire wolves who are holding their ground. He can't see hide nor hair of that pesky leader.

Bin decides to use his new ally for a unique task...sniff out that pesky invisible leader. He issues his order and the bison snaps into action. Massive nostrils sniff the ground as it attempts to catch scent of its foe. It moves slowly forward (1/2 move rate as it tries to find the ogre) with Bin following behind it.

Xenia's taunts illicit varied results. Two of the ogres growl (O2 &3) and take off after the irritating half-elf. The other two (O5&7) grow tired of the little annoyance and decide to join their brothers. The move over toward Lang, trying to pen him in. Meanwhile, the crafty half-elf meets with much better results in her attempt to locate the invisible ogre leader. Even over the din of battle, Xenia hears a suspicious shuffling noise somewhere in the area of the two tables (blue objects on map). Unfortunately, at this distance it is almost impossible to pinpoint the critter's location.

Further on the battleground, Lang sets about the relatively easy task of dismantling the ogres. With two quick strokes, he dispatches the closest (O6) without breaking a sweat. If these slobbering morons are the best they've got, it's going to be a very short battle indeed!

Wynn moves forward, sword at the ready. He too takes a look see for the ogre leader but can't locate him.

Belkior is ready for this kind of problem. Ready to fling his spell at a moment's notice, he moves up behind Wynn. No body's getting past them this time. That's for sure! He watches and listens for signs of an incoming invisible opponent but it doesn't happen.

Syr follows up with Lang's attack and sends the ogre in front of him (O8) quickly and thoroughly to Gargul. He pops immediately into view.

Taking their licks, several of the ogres look to settle the score with that horrible sword swinging butcher (Lang). Repositioning themselves, Lang soon finds himself surrounded by several angry looking ogres. Dropping its greatclub, one of the ogres reaches out and tries to grabs a hold of the warrior (Touch attack=23 success; Grapple=23 vs. Lang's DC26 (10+9BAB+7Str.=26, failure). Another reaches out to join the fun, but can't get his hands around the wriggly warrior (O4). Thankfully, Lang is just too much to handle for the dim witted ogres.

OOC: Might want to read up on the Woldian Special Attack Rules (http://www.woldiangames.com/constabulary/special.htm).

Finally having extinguished the flames on his clothes, Ogre #11 tries to crawl back through the Wall of Flames, only to die a very horrible death. This panics Ogre #9 who throws himself forward through the wall of fiery death....only to seal his doom. The weapons in his hands clatter on the ground in front of the wall, while his corpse sizzles and pops in the flames of the wall. A horrid cloud of smoke begins to issue forth.

And then...

With a huge bellow, there is a pounding of feet that shakes the earth. Bin, Wynn, Belkior and Angus turn to see a truly horrible sight! A huge figure rushes forward toward the cavern entrance (G1). It stops about 90 feet away from the group and flings a large rock. The huge stone tumbles slowly through the air before smashing into Bin's body (AC 39 for 22). The force of the blow pushes Bin back into his Celestial Bison who, thankfully cushions some of the momentum.

On the other side of the battlefield, Xenia likewise feels the pounding of footfalls. Another giant hustles through the side exit and slows only long enough to kick the dire wolves nearby. Showing all the signs of submissiveness, the dire wolves bolt from the presence of the Giant and toward the Ogres gathering around Lang. Scanning the room, it's greedy eyes spot the floating form of Xenia. With an unnerving silent laugh, Xenia's giant chucks its stone with lethal efficiency. (AC31/28 crit. for 34 dam.)

"Hey! The Invisible Ogre Guy is ... "

The Wold explodes in a red haze of pain as the girl rogue's right arm and rib cage turns into a mass of sharp bone shrapnel and mangled flesh. Her brain begins to shut down and she fights to regain focus, wielding her single best weapon: The thought that this is now a fight for her life.

" ... There! Near the tables!"

She points with the staff before looking over her shoulder at the Giant Guy who hucked the boulder at her. Stars and planets, he's big. Space. Get some space. The rogue drags her broken body through the air. Each step stabs her with the sharp edges of her own bones.

Somewhere there is an soft explosion of fire. Angus. Get him, Angus.

Thank Stars for the magic. Each painful step takes her twice as far.

She turns to take a look at the rock that hit her, scanning the floor to see if there may be any more. This is far enough. Time to bring up a wall. That should at least give some cover. The dark rogue raises again the Staff of Fire, going through the motions. Nothing. No! No! Not now. Xenia searches her mind, filled with panic, for what she might have done wrong. Oh yeah. Right! Oh yeah. She completes the actions, and the Wall of blazing Flame rises up, engulfing two Ogres and hiding the Giant from Sight.

"FRAM YOU!" she cries out, spitting blood. Tears of pain stream down her face. "fram you ..."

OoC Note: If the boulder thrown at Xenia fell in the square she was last in, then it is covered by the Wall of Fire. Also, Wall of Fire should be opaque allowing Total Cover to ranged fire.

The halfling cleric here's the sickening sound of boulders hitting flesh and knows that he has to get closer to his companions. But first, there's that invisible ogre ... and Belkior will deal with that by casting his readied spell. Then he moves into the chamber.

Lang steps forward (Cell S32) putting himself in range to attack Ogres #4 & #12. His short swords are a blur as chunks of Ogre going flying in all directions. He attacks Ogre #4 and if it dies attacks #12. Sunshine moves (cell Q32) and attacks Ogre #1. It is a mighty bite right into the Ogre's thigh. Sunshine is doing a good job protecting Lang's back.

Wynn's heart is in his throat. His friends are engaged in combat deep inside the room, and a giant is bearing down on Bin. "Bin! Run!" the bard calls to the newest member of the Crimson Shields.

Wynn will sweep to the left even as Belkior moves to the right. Pressed against the wall, he waits, watching and listening, for the cleric to pass through, and then the giant.

The half-elf will hold his attack until the giant passes through into the room. Only then will he spring out and swing his blade across the back of the creature's knee, attempting to sever tendon and sinew. (Hit AC 32, crit. 16 (not likely) 11 pts dmg (+11 if crit.)

The addition of the newcomers kicks it up a notch, but the Shield respond in kind.

Angus fires off a niiiiice big fire ball at the giant at the main entrance. Despite his huge size, the giant rolls out of the majority of the flames (Reflex=21).

Xenia calls out her warning and gets crunched by the boulder. Keeping her wits about her, she calls forth a wall of flame that causes howls of pain from the ogres and doubtlessly causes the giant a good deal of grief. The ogres (O2 &3) have had enough. They tuck tail and head toward the table area. And she doesn't have to wait long to find out what the Giant does either. A few seconds later the huge figure smashes through the wall of fire and stands just outside it (11 damage from passing through wall). Grey, cold eyes survey the battlefield and a scowl forms over his rough feathers. The scowl increases as he spots the source of his anger. Thankfully though, no more rocks head Xenia's way...for now.

Syr scoots forward a step (needed a 5 foot step to be in striking range and lets loose on the Ogre (#5) that dares to be in his way. Ripping away with his new, powerful long legs, he shreds the creature before it even realizes it is under attack.

Ready to put things on a more level footing, Belkior steps forward and fires off his spell. He scans the area in eager anticipation and spots...nothing. It would appear that the pesky ogre leader isn't in the area of his spell.

Lang and Sunshine step forward and dish out a heaping plate of hurt. Like Syr, Lang's dancing blades rip through the two ogres in front of them as easily as cutting cake. The ever faithful Sunshine rips into the other ogre's leg (O1) and rips and shreds. But ooooh...the horrid taste! Though the damage is extensive, the ogre somehow keeps alive and keeps its feet firmly under it (Trip DC is 19). The sole remaining ogre (O1) kicks viscously at the dog which just took a bite out of his leg, but to no avail (AC=11). He takes a 5 foot step away from the pesky dog. The other ogre (O7) in the area steps forward in front of the wounded ogre and tries to smash into Syr but he just can't manage (AC17). Then the two dire wolves enter the fray. The smell of blood is fresh and they're very hungry. Beady eyes turn to Sunshine, who is looking mighty tasty about now. The first wolf misses the faithful hound by a mile, but the second rips into Sunshine with a vengeance (AC31/30 crit. for 26. Trip=21, Sunshine=10+3Str.+4(4legs)=17). With a sudden twist of its massive head, the Dire Wolf pulls Sunshine off his feet (Tripped and now prone).

Wynn shouts out his warning to Bin as he knows that things look bad. Very, very, very bad! He moves over to the side to set up a nasty surprise attack for the giant when it arrives. Unfortunately, the giant does not charge forward, and that pesky invisible ogre hasn't been revealed either.

And then it happens....
A thunderous laugh fills the entrance. "Oh, you want to play, huh? First I play catch with your friends. Then I'm coming after you little flea!" Reaching into the sack over his shoulder, the giant pulls out another rock and flings it toward the group. Once more the boulder sails through the air and smashes into Bin's already broken form. A terrible crunching noise is heard as ribs snap and lungs are punctured. Bin falls to the ground pinned under a large rock and slowly bleeding to death. (AC 39 for 25...By my records I show Bin at -2).

Resuming his crusade against the ogres, he edges closer (O32) before unleashing another series of powerful kicks on the next ogre in line. (Attack 24,18,31,18 damage=62)

ANgus does not like it when another boulder rolls into the room "Anyone hit! Get out of the line of fire." he calls out.

Angus watches the giant in the room (G2) stride through the wall of fire and decides on a new tactic. "Xenia lets bring one down through combined arms." Angus yells to the Drow in elvish hoping she get the point.

Angus again relies on his rod and casts a maximized lighning bolt at G2.

"CRACK" as it sizziles over Syr and the ogres heads.

Damage 54 Reflex save DC 20 for half damage.

Angus slides over along the wall trying to use the bunk bed as cover.

Fram! The rogue turns at the sound of another meaty smack. Bin's down! Must be another giant outside the cave.

But the dark rogue has her own problems right here. Things are all up in the air and they could go any way now. Angus shouts something in his high pixie voice. Not enough power, Angus. Don't think there's enough power.

Keep him moving. Keep putting stuff up in his way. Make him come to you if he wants to hit you. Move Xenia. Move!

The rogue's dark face pulls into a grimace as she grits her teeth and forces herself through the air. Without a heed to the Ogres below, Xenia takes a stand and waves the Fire Staff about again. Another wall of fire springs up. With a hiss of flames it catches one of the Ogres and one of the Dire Wolves, before concealing Xenia and the rest of the group from the aim of the giant.

The cleric drops to the ground as a bone protrudes from his mangled legs. Stunned from lest round, the giant had another opportunity to do damage before he could react. Pointing to the giant he tells his newly summoned friend. "Go get'em boy!" Almost passing out, white light glazing his eyes, he attempts to take care of himself before he passes out from the pain, but fails.

Wynn curses under his breath when neither the giant nor the invisible leader of the ogres show themselves, and from the sounds of things, Bin is in serious trouble. "XENIA!!" he calls out, "stay away from that giant" and then he begins singing a strange lilted passage "amin quella, quella tuulo elea" and disappears from view.

Hidden from his opponents, the bard makes his way down the corridor and towards the broken form of Bin [new position=G43]

Lang smiles as another 2 Ogres fall to the ground from his shortswords. The smile is quickly wiped from his face as the Dire Wolf bites his best friend and drags him down to the ground. The other Dire Wolf is partially concealed from his view as another Wall of Fire springs up from the staff. Lang will not let either wolf attack Sunshine again.

A determined looks crosses Lang's face as he steps forward five feet (cell S31) attacks Dire Wolf #1 and if it dies tries to stab Dire Wolf #2 through the fire. Sunshine lashes out (from prone) at Dire Wolf #1 if it is still alive or stands up if it is dead and moves into the spot Lang just held.

The halfling cleric's first impulse is to rush down there and heal his companion. But Belkior doesn't think that he can stand too many of those boulders.

So he concentrates for a moment and prepares to place a Wall of Stone just beyond Bin. Once the bison has charged off, Belkior will provide the shelter for Bin and himself. That should be enough to provide shelter for himself and Bin, and hinder the giant's movement too.

OOC - 4 sections of double thickness (4") placed in G49 & H49 so that wall is 10 feet high. Two (2) sections of regular thickness (2") wall are placed in H48. The intent is to provide cover for anyone in columns G & H and force the giant to squeeze past the wall to enter melee. And, at double thickness, the wall should be able to stand up to some boulders.

After the wall is placed, Belkior will move towards Bin. He saw Wynn disappear and mutters as he moves ahead, "Save your spell ... wait until he tries to get up here."

Syr gets down to business and efficiently dispatches the Ogre in front of him. The wounded Ogre behind him moves into place in front of him and comes very close to grappling him but can't keep a hold.

Tiring of playing catch with the giant, Angus fires off a huge lightening bolt toward Giant #2, who never sees it coming (Ref.=7). Lines of anger etching its face, it howls in rage. The howl increases in pitch as Xenia summons her newest wall of fire. With one final shriek of pain, the Ogre (O2) caught in the wall bursts into flame. Looking very put out, the giant (G2) runs down toward the hole in the walls of fire.

And then, out of nowhere, the staff in Xenia's hand jolts with a terrific force (Failed Sunder attempt...rolled a 3). And like magic...poof...the ogre leader appears right beside Xenia (floating 20 feet up as well). Strangely, though he doesn't look happy. With a quick flick of his massive arms his huge greatsword slams once more into the staff, but this time with better results. With a horrible snap, the staff shatters into a million pieces, destroyed forever (Sunder=31 vs DC=10+5Xenia's Dex; 31 pts. of damage). With an ugly toothy grin, the ogre looks over at Xenia. "How's that feel, witch??"

Bolstered by the sudden appearance of it's leader, Ogre #3 grins as it tiny brain works out a problem to the floating half-elf in front of him. Climbing onto the table in front of him, he now has the altitude he needs to reach Xenia. In his zeal, he reaches out to grab the girl, but he just can't get a grip.

With his last conscious breath, Bin sends the bison after the giant that just crushed him. Moving carefully, the bison hops over the cleric's prone form and charges toward the giant. (OOC: Technically, Bin is in the way of the bison, so he can't charge. But I got my birthday present in the mail today and am feeling charitable.) Running full speed toward the giant, the bison charge is thrown off as the giants arm smashes solidly into his skull (AoO for entering space AC 20 for 22). Though bison smashes into the giant, it causes no damage (AC=13). Irritated, the giant drops his bag of stones and slams his arms into the bison's body. Crushed and no longer useful, the bison winks back from whence it came.

Knowing that time is of the essence, Wynn casts his invisibility spell ready to rescue his companion. But...nothing happens. He looks down at his still visible hands. Uh oh. And then he remembers Belkior casting a spell...could it have been Invisibility Purge? Yeah. That must be it. Hoping that the area of effect doesn't extend to Bin's broken body, Wynn plucks up his courage and heads back into the main chamber. Beginning to panic, Wynn remains visible right up to the very last step he takes. The just like magic he disappears from sight. (OOC: Your posted move would have ended you in the invisibility purge area. Since you can take one diagonal 5 foot step without penalty, I figured you would appreciate ending your move outside of the purge)

Lashing out at the creature that dared to attack his friend, Lang downs the first Dire Wolf, though it takes all of his attack to do so. Sunshine gets back on his feet and moves once more to backup his owner. Which leaves the other dire wolf. Moving 5 foot out of the wall of fire, the creature growls menacingly. Lunging, it attacks Lang but cannot make it past his armor (AC=15).

Belkior summons some magical cover and then moves to help with Bin. (Belkior is 9th level, so he only gets 9 segments of wall to work with. 4 double sections=8, so the back section is only 5 foot tall.) As he moves down the entrance to help with Bin the invisible Wynn pops back into view again.

Angus is happy to see the giant (G2) is distress, but not the appearance of the flying ogre leader with a greatsword. Then the staff of fire is broken and Xenia is threatened.

Angus casts a targeted dispel magic on the ogre leader attempting to dispel his fly and any other buffing he may have down while invisible.

Wynn knows he has no time to dwell on the ephemeral success of his invisibility spell and continues towards Bin, sliding his wand of curing from his belt as he moves. Keeping one eye on Belkior's wall of stone he stoops down and touches his fallen comrade. A faint amber glow envelops Bin [CLW=6HP]

"Bin, can you move? You need to withdraw!"

Bin's subconcious hear's Wynn. {{He is saying something, what was that?}} In response Bin try's to ask him what he wants, but instead coughs up a black and red blood clot that had started when his broken ribs punctured his left lung. His head rolls to the side of the rock wall.

Ummmmm...by my calculations, Bin is now at +3 thanks to Wynn's spell he should be conscious and ready to bolt.----Nellie

Bin feels bones set themselves and can breath again. Although in tremendous pain he get up and try's to find cover behind E38. Moving further then allowed to be able to cast, he assumes a defensive posture, wary of his surroundings.

The wolf falls under Lang's shorsword attacks. Hmm, he thinks they are even tougher than the Ogres. Lang is about to attack the remaining Dire Wolf, but he sees the giant's head coming towards him above the Wall of Fire. He decides not to attack the wolf, but move (5' to cell T32) into position to attack the giant. Finally an enemy worthy of testing this new body of his.

Sunshine remains in position guarding Lang's back. If the Dire Wolf moves into range, Sunshine will attack it (ready standard action - attack).

The smell of burning hair fills the room once again as first the giant and then Lang the bugbear ranger, approach just that much too close to two of the Walls of Fire.

"THAT WAS GOOD *erk* ... " Xenia grits her teeth from the pain as even her outcry brings stabbing pain to her right side. The blow had been so powerful. The rogue searches for a way out. This Airwalking thing just isn't maneuverable enough. He'd catch her. Even with her Expeditious spell on. He'd catch her.

Then the Ogre Guy begins to sink down. And Xenia escapes. Dragging her body through the air, she heads downhill, toward Syr. The magic hies her feet, and she takes cover behind the big Troll Guy punching things out with his clawed fists.

Angus cast's his spell and is happy to see the ogre leader slowly float to the ground, thus relieving pressure on Xenia. The table top troll (O3) makes a grab at her retreating form (AoO) but still can't get a shot in. Xenia makes good use of her time and heads toward that charming (and powerful) troll up ahead.

Wynn comes to Bin's rescue and gets him mobile again. Bin promptly heads for cover and Belkior follows giving him the healing touch. Heavy footfalls just outside the stone wall indicate that the giant is on the move once more.

Lang the Bugbear marches in, glad to have a real opponent. He lays into the giant which bleeds terribly from the attack. But somehow, he remains standing. With a husky laugh, the giant takes his greatclub and smashes into Lang (AC27/12 no crit. for 40hp). Then he retreats away from the Bugbear. The dire wolf, however, has other plans. It rips into Sunshine (AC30 for 15). Sunshine returns the favor and cuts a gash in the wolf's leg. He tries to trip the wolf but he can't pull it off (Wolf's Trip DC is 25). The wolf in turn tries to trip Sunshine but likewise can't sweep him off his feet.

Catching scent of weakness, the ogre (01) facing Syr moves and switches targets. Bringing his greatclub down in a massive arc, he smashes it into Sunshine's flank (AC 26 for 14). The creature utters a guttural cry of success as Sunshine crumples to the ground.

Recalling what the drow said about the value of the staff, he winces when he hears it breaking and catches a glimpse of it out of the corner of his eye. "Hang in there Xenia, as soon as this guy falls, I'll stand over you. It's too bad about the staff."

Pleased by his recent success, Syr steps in to swing at O1 (attack 30 22 24 20 damage 80). As he sees Lang head for the giant he mutters to himself, "Lang, why don't you go after the giant, I got this..."

That may be DM nellie, but according to the Spell Summon Monster I the summoned creatures arrive in the same round summoned and attck immedietly.

The Stone Giant smacks Lang pretty hard with his club, but Lang holds his ground. Lang gets his bearings from the hit in time to see the giant try to leave. Lang stabs at the evil creature before it moves out of reach.

AoO hit AC 34; 12+7= 19 damage; damage to Lang 4

Lang is about to follow the giant when he hears a howl of pain from Sunshine. Turning he sees Sunshine fall to the ground from attacks from the Wolf and from the last remaining Ogre by them. He eyes Sunshine's wounds hoping the dog is still alive (heal 11). It doesn't look good, but Lang must eliminate the enemy before he can try to save his dog.

Lang moves towards the foul creatures and begins to attack them (5' move to S31). He attacks the Dire Wolf first as he sees Syr engage the Ogre. If the wolf dies from his first swing (standard action), and Syr has killed the Ogre, then Lang will drop his swords (free action) and retrieve his Wand of Healing (move action). Otherwise Lang will use all his attacks to kill them both.

Sunshine lays on the ground bleeding (stablize 22).

I might point out too that the last message was from Matt/Lang and not from DM/Nellie. But, as DM/George has pointed out, Buzz, they're both right. The effects of any spell that takes a Full Round to cast begin on the round following the beginning of the casting. That's true of all of the Summoning Spells. (And it's one of their drawbacks. You begin casting one round. Your creatures appear the next round.

On the one hand, you're stuck doing nothing for one whole round. On the other hand, after that, you have the advantage of both your own actions *AND* the actions of your summoned creatures for the duration of the spell. Drawbacks and benefits. They balance in a way. -- Al

"Go, Lang." With the ogre Xenia limps a downward slope through the air, taking a place just above Sunshine. "Go dice them Giant Guys. I'll take care of your pup."

Her haversack knows what she wants. It gives her a Cleric type scroll for curing the pup's wounds.

Syr easily dispatches the remaining ogre and takes in the battle.

Wynn moves from behind the safety of the wall and puts his invisibility to good use. Rushing forward, he stabs at the giant, cutting a large wound in his leg. Poping back into sight, he makes a quick retreat.

These giants are not evil.----Nellie

With an angry roar, the giant climbs quickly and easily over the stone wall (Acc. Climb=35). Jumping down (Jump=36), the giant lands right beside Wynn. "Boo!" Pulling out his greatclub, the giant swings at Wynn. The pain from the blow is enormous, and Wynn's whole body aches from the force of the blow. (AC37/28 (crit) for 49 (60 no miss from Blur)

Angus fires off his scorching rays which rip into the ogre leader. Growling in anger, the creature casts a very scornful look at the pixie. "I'll deal with you after I kill your friends!"

Back in action after Belkior's healing, Bin gets right to work summoning some more Bison to help out with the fight. Unfortunately, the ogre leader has other ideas in mind. Striding forward, it positions itself in front of Bin and lays into him (AC32 for 17, AC28 for 15. Total Damage=32) Bin must make a Concentration Check DC46 or lose his spell. Remember that a nat. 20 is always successful.

Lang steps forward and exacts a very painful revenge on the dire wolf that hurt Sunshine. He easily dispatches the beast, though it takes him two blows to put the wolf out of its misery. Meanwhile Xenia advices Lang to go for the giant, assuring him that she will tend to Sunshine.

No sound comes from behind the wall of flames, and it is almost impossible to know what the giant is up to.

Belkior calls forth a protective barrier around himself as he edges toward Wynn, ready to come to the rescue.

The other ogre (O3) lumbers forward and reaches out to strike Belkior....but he can't (Will=11). Shuddering in repulsion, the beast looks for something else to attack.

"Here we go, Pup." Poor guy. Sunshine looks pretty beat up. It's plain, even to the untrained eye. It isn't pretty. And it's a graphic reminder of her own battered condition.

"You just sleep. It won't hurt so much that way." Xenia gets out the words on the scroll. It crumbles to dust leaving a gentle light in her hands, a light that she transfers to Sunshine with a touch. Lang's companion remains unmoving, but some of his wounds close, and the bleeding stops.

"Now where'd that Giant get to?" Lifting her head, the rogue spares a moment to listen for the sounds coming from beyond the curtain of fire. If she was him, she'd be coming up around the other end of the Wall hoping to huck another rock at someone. Might be up there just now. He'd have to hang up his club or lose it. But that wouldn't put him too far away.

"You stay right there, Pup. I'm gonna go see if I can't give Syr and your buddy Lang a little advantage over them Giant Guys."

The halfling cleric sees the pummeling that his companions are taking at the hands of the ogres and giants.

OOC - Note, I'm waiting on both the DM's response to whether the giant could climb over the wall and attack, and where other characters move to. So, here goes with some conditional orders ...

If Wynn is untouched by the giant, Belkior will strengthen his companions by casting Prayer once they have all moved closer.

Otherwise, Belkior will cast Mass Cure Light Wounds targetted in such a way to include Wynn and whoever else is within 30 feet of the bard.

Then Belkior will move to be closer to his companions.

OOC - Did Lang damage the Giant with his AoO?

OOC - Can we see the Giant's head over the top of the Wall of Fire?

Lang smiles in satisfaction as the Dire Wolf crumples to the ground from his attack. His smile continues as he sees Xenia cast a spell that stops some of Sunshine's bleeding. His dog appears to be stabilized for the moment.

Now to slay the Giant. Lang runs around the edge of the Wall of Fire, chasing after the Stone Giant. If the Giant is within 40', Lang will move to it and attack it. Otherwise Lang will move his full movement, trying to find the creature.

Sunshine lays on the ground unconscious, but stable.

Wynn's head explodes in a blinding flash of pain as the giant's club slams into him. Dazed and disoriented he lashes out weakly with his longsword [Hit AC=27 for 6HP]. Only then does he feel Belkior's spell wash over him. Still bruised and broken, the bard tumbles away from the giant and his club [Tumble=17 - not sure why I rolled with a d8 would be higher with a d20].

OOC: Remember that you draw an AoO if you enter a large creature's threatened space (PHB 150). In all that's been going on, I have forgotten to have the baddies make those on the PC's.

Also, since Bin drew an AoO from attacking the Giant, I am going to assume that Belkior cast the Cure Spell instead of the Prayer spell. Otherwise, Bin is now dead. Let me know.

The battle rages ever on.

Frustrated, Angus shoots out another two scorching rays at the ogre leader and once more they burn into his body. He's certainly not looking in top shape anymore!

Xenia administers a much needed healing touch to Sunshine and thinks about ways to help out with the giants. She listens very carefully to the area behind the Wall of fire but can't hear any motion.

Belkior casts a curing spell, saving Bin from an untimely death.

Syr moves out and easily kills off the ogre in his way (O3).

In desperation, Bin fights back against the ogre leader. Unfortunately, as he closes, the Ogre Leader makes an attack of opportunity (AC29 for 28). Looking over at Angus with an evil grin and he slides his sword cruelly into Bin and sends him once more into that hazy place between life and death. (Bin is now at -9) Readying his shield, he takes a 5 foot step (no AoO) and turns his sights on the new comer Syr. With a savage cry, he unloads his frustrations on the troll. A quick blow with his greatsword cuts a large gash in Syr's the Troll's green chest (AC35/26 crit. for 64) OOC: Ogre leader's AC is 27.

Bored of the cat and mouse game with Wynn, the giant in the main entrance (G1) decides to play with someone more interesting. He moves forward to attack Belkior and feels the magical urge to move away from the holy man. Shaking his head savagely, he beats off the impulse (Will=23) and lays into the cleric (AC26 for 37).

Lang goes after the giant (G2) and finds him not that far away. He moves in to attack and once more is pounded by the giant (AoO AC27 for 29). Bravely, Lang lashes out very effectively with his sword and is very happy to see the giant stagger under the blow. There's still some fight left in the monstrosity though, and bringing the greatclub up high over his head, he places a blow based more on brute strength than finesse. The gamble pays off, however as Lang's body crumples under the deadly blow (AC 25 for 25...total damage=54. Lang is now at -7). With a cruel laugh, the giant moves walks away as Lang's lifeblood begins to stain the ground a deep crimson.

OOC: Yes, Lang's AoO hit the giant...and no, no one can see over the wall of fire right now.

Thanks Nellie - In which case I will change my post and instead of taking a potion I will have Wynn attack.

Wynn darts after the giant, tumbling past it's prodigious reach [Tumble=18], and watches in horror as it clubs the cleric. "Face me you foul breath from an orc's backside" he yells out at the giant as his sword slices down [Hit AC=30(32 if flanking) for 10 HP].

"No appetite for elven warrior...too quick for a slug like you?" the bard taunts the giant, trying to draw him away from the injured clerics.

"Hey, you don't know where he might be!" Xenia's terse whisper follows Lang as he disappears behind the wall of fire in pursuit of the giant. There's a bunch of thuds. Then there's a *fwamp* that doesn't sound much to the girl rogue like a big person *fwamp*.

Uh oh

Wonder where that giant might be? As she reaches for another scroll from her magic haversack, the rogue gives another cautious listen to the sounds from beyond the cracking wall of flames. Taking a few quiet steps toward the end of the wall, Xenia reads from the scroll. Her hands glow again, hands to heal. It's pretty. But there's little time to admire the silvery stuff she Holds in her hands. There's going have to be the dash to the other side of the flames. And if this time she gets hit, it may be the end.

Xenia steels herself. No other way around it.

The halfling cleric winces under the pounding delivered by the giant. But Belkior is still paying attention to what is going on, including the fact that Bin is on death's door. He's in a tight spot so he opts for casting a spell where he is, hunkering down to avoid getting hit.

Then Belkior moves to escape the two giants. If Angus dropped the ogre leader, Belkior will scramble away towards the bunks. If not, he will simply take a foot step.

Guys, I know we all love our characters and love the game but when the players second guess every ruling of the DM it really kills any fun the DM might have doing this. Remember this is a thankless job and DMs spend hours doing it without to many thanks from the players. We don't need to be jumped all over when the player perceive we have made an error.

Nellie has been extremely kind to you during the combat and several times she could have rightfully killed a player off but held her hand with me gleefully in the back ground saying..."You got Bin now...deliver the death blow!" She has interpreted many ruling in your favor that could have gone the other way. So next time you see something happen that you don't agree with, remember it is a game, that the DM's are human and go on with life. Thanks

In a rather courageous move, Wynn tumbles forward and begins taunting the giant. Ummmm...Bob...tumbling makes you move at ― move rate. You could engage the giant without risks of AoO, but you can't attack.---Nellie

Meanwhile, Angus fires off two more rays which burn horrid looking holes in the evil creature's body. With a sickening gurgle, it collapses on the floor, its sword and shield clatter noisily on the ground.

Bin and Lang lie dying on the ground free from the pain, noise and stench of combat.

Xenia cautiously approaches the wall of fire. She's not really sure what went on back there and as they say, only fools rush in where angels fear to tread. Listening very carefully, Xenia is almost positive she hears the heavy thud of giant footfall but she can't make out the light step of Lang.

With courage that would make Domi proud, Belkior sticks put and casts his curing spell defensively. Positive, life giving energy floods into the room restoring both the cleric and his allies. Since that pesky orc leader has been so conveniently removed from the picture by Pixie Angus, Belkior makes for an escape. Unfortunately, he draws an attack of opportunity from the giant as he flees (AC 26 for 34). It gives room for thought...if not for that expertly cast healing spell...it could be Belkior's body on the ground oozing his lifeblood into the dirt.

The giant (G1) looks over at Wynn and laughs long and heartily. "You...bah...you're hardly worth my time..." He takes a mighty swat at the bard and...misses. Looking a little flustered, he brings the club down once more....only to miss again. A loud, primal growl fills the chamber. (AC18 and 17).

I apologize if you wasn't aware of the fact that I'm really new to third edition and the rules can be misinterpreted very easily, in case Bin's actions weren't proof enough.

Wynn continues to draw the giant towards him and away from Belkior and the fallen Bin. He takes a more defensive posture and swings twice with his longsword hoping to aggravate the creature into making a mistake [Hit AC=17 and 15 for 10+10 HP; combat expertise -5 to hit and +5 to AC]

"That's it?" he jeers his opponent. "More of a lover than a fighter I guess...garter belt hitched a bit to tight?"

Angus is glad to see Bin stir, and yells out "Way to go Belkior!"

Angus now sizes up the latest big threat and is happy to see Wynn keeping him occupied.

Angus see an opening and casts a lighting bolt at the giants head, keeping it off of ground level and away from his friends.

With a lound "CRACK" the giant is struck.

Angus flies back a bit to get out of swatting range and calls out to his friends "Pour it on!".

"Hey! Hey! Wynn." Even whispered over the Message Spell, Xenia's voice comes quick and anxious. "I think Lang's down behind this wall of fire over here. I'm gonna see if he's alright. Maybe put some healing to him. But, could be maybe there's a Giant over here just waiting to ham jam the next person what comes around looking."

"I'm hurt pretty bad. But someone's gotta go. Tell the guys. Tell Belkie and Bin."

She ends it there, before she loses her nerve.

The Wall of Fire around the Weapons Rack vanishes with a small *poof* of air. In the breech, the dark rogue comes across the floor low to the ground, her ring trying to match her coloring to the floor and fire behind her. Out in the open, that just can't be much good. But a girl does what a girl can do.

There's Lang! On the floor.

"I see him! He's down!" Heading straight for her goal, Xenia pads up the line of Fire and reaches out to Touch Lang's fallen body. "I'm going for it. Gonna put this healing stuff on him."

Only after the healing light transfers to him does she look up to scan the floor. She'd find the Giant somewhere. Or she'd find a rock coming straight for her face.

The halfling cleric turns to look at the giant that just swatted him. That last smack really hurt Belkior, but his gamble paid off. Now, to keep himself in the fight he needs to heal himself. But maybe Syr needs some healing instead.

So he moves just behind and beside Syr, then reaches out to channel healing energy into the monk.

Wynn continues his dangerous game and even lashes out this time. His blows bounce harmlessly off the giant's thickened skin, but there is a flicker of anger in the giant's eyes.

Angus lights up the corridor with his lightening bolt and is very happy to see that the giant is unable to move out of the way of the strike as it sizzles into his back.

Summoning all her courage, Xenia makes a leap of faith and heads over to tend to the broken Lang. Shooting past the wall of fire, she holds her breath, waiting for a greatclub or giant boulder to sail through the air and smash her head.... Only the attack never comes. Glowing hands infuse Lang with life giving energy, stabilizing him, but not managing to bring him back to consciousness. (I believe Lang is at -5 now) Daring a quick glance, she does not see the giant anywhere in the near vicinity. But then...she catches sight of him on the other side of the wall. He doesn't seem to have taken notice of her yet though...

Seeing the immediate threat is gone, Bin spends some time bringing himself back up to speed. He sighs in relief as healing energy courses through his veins.

Sensing his opportunity, Syr steps up to attack the giant. With a mighty wack, he smashes into the giant's tough hide, though just barely.

The veins in his neck bulging, the giant turns his wrath back to that mouthy half-elf (Wynn). The greatclub smashes down once more, but this time with much worse consequences. With a crunching of bone, Wynn shudders as the greatclub smashes into his neck and shoulder (AC35 for 44, 62=no miss on blur). A second attack follows shortly and misses the quick footed bard by inches (AC20).

Having experienced the giant's powerful attacks first hand, Belkior figures Syr could use a helping hand. Moving forward, he gently reaches out and sends healing energy into his friendly troll's body.

The bard drops nearly to one knee as the weight of the giant's club crashes down on him. His shield arm almost useless from the blow, he withdraws back towards the wall, careful to dodge any further swings from the great club [Tumble=15]

"Xenia's gone to look after Lang, the rest of us need to swarm this one" he whispers via the message spell.

"COMING 'ROUND! Coming 'round atcha!" Xenia's voice, shot through with alarm, comes Whispered over the Message spell. "The Giant's comin' 'round the other side of the Fire Wall! From the North. Everybody in the North look out."

Angus is worried that Syr may get singed by another l-bolt so he moves forward 5 feet and casts and empowered magic missile.

Six missiles of force strike the giant about the head and shoulders, missing all of Angus's friends.

"Bin," the halfling calls to his fellow cleric, "is there a spell that you could give Syr to help him better bring down this Giant? Speed is of the essence, and Syr is out best chance right now."

Looking around at his companions dropping like flies, he feels a sense of urgency as he attacks the giant. Not wanting to leave the giant alone with Wynn, he stands his ground and continues to fire punches at the figure. He grunts with each blow, "Will you just go DOWN!" Actions fly on the battlefield.

Bin gives Belkior some much needed healing, while on the other end of the field, Xenia tends to Lang while whispering out her warning about the giant. After returning to the living, Lang fetches his wand and feels much better!

Knowing he can't take another hit like the last one, Wynn tumbles out of the giant's reach. Meanwhile, Angus and Syr prove a devastating double team. The magic missiles burning the flesh from the giant's back... Syr's kicks cracking bone and splitting flesh. And then, as if Syr had uttered a Greater Command, the giant keels over crashing lifelessly to the ground. Hearts skip a beat. Adrenaline pumps as the reality sets in. Dead...he's dead. We won. After all the beatings and near death experiences...we won.

But then....

As if in slow motion, a dark shadow streaks through the room. It heads dead on toward Angus as he turns to scan for the giant that has just emerged from behind the wall of fire. For Angus it is an eternity, watching the boulder ripping through the air, slowly covering the distance. Until finally there is the agonizing pain as the stone literally crushes Angus' new body. (AC31/31 crit. for 43 damage) It does not last long as the broken pixie passes into unconsciousness and falls rapidly to the ground (20 foot fall...since a pixie is small, I will reduce the fall damage to 2 pts. damage).

The heat from the wall in front of Xenia flares into pain just as the wall behind flickers and disappears. How Lang can stand it is nothing short of Magic.

Another rock. The Giant's gonna pull another rock and the question that pounds in the dark rogue's head is where to take cover? Behind the wall? That would be easy. What are the guys on the other side of the fire doing at just this moment? Taking cover themselves? Or are they rushing right into the teeth of it?

She's lived with them through the forays into the Crying Woods, through the war with the Anvil Hearts, through the Planty destruction of Floating City, through nests of Vampires and cadres of Mummies. The rogue thinks she knows them by now, and she heads away from the safety of cover at a brisk limp. They're rushing him, and she heads north as well.

"This is Xenia. [ow]" Quiet, quiet. Help the camouflage ring. Think like the stone of the cave. The hiss of her own breath sucked through gritted teeth is all that fills her world for an uncountable number of pain filled steps. Then she lets the pain out with a breath. "Gonna try get around behind it. Dunno what I can do. But that's where I'll be."

Only after an endless age of pain filled steps does it occur to Xenia to consider whether counting the steps would make the pain better, or make it worse.

Shoulders slump and eyes close as the last Giant does down to the floor.

"Wynn? Wynn? You out there? Please tell me you're okay."

The last Wall of Fire sputters and drops to the floor, opening up the cave place wide. There's Angus, down on the floor. There's dwarves just standing there up on the scaffold thing, watching. Just fram framble watching.

Blood pooling out across the floor. And smoke rising up from the bodies of ogres and wolves.

"Wynn? I'm here.

And there's the unknown tunnel from where outta the giant came.

"Wynn?"

First things gotta come first, though. Five feet up in the air, the broken rogue limps toward the impossibly distant passageway. He's the only one not in the room. That's where he's gotta be, and hope to hope he's alright.

"I'm fine Xenia" the bard replies in a whisper. He gently moves his shield arm and grimaces. The bone is clearly broken and his shoulder burns with pain, a clear indication that not all is as well as he let on.

The bard picks up his longsword and head back into the main room to make sure the giant is truly dead. When he spots Angus' prone form he approaches the pixie-mage and taps him with his wand of cure light wounds [CLW=6HP].

"Everybody sound-off. let's make sure we aren't missing anyone in this mess."

The group starts to get their bearings and several are healed of their wounds. As the group composes itself, Xenia shows her frustration at the chained up and strangely silent dwarves.

Bin advises caution since there are more enemies about and the group.

Others just cling to each other and realize that this was one of the toughest fights they have ever been in. They are just happy and grateful to be alive, knowing that it could have easily gone the other way.

Wynn gets an interesting surprise when he inspects the second giant, the last to fall. The giant is only knocked out and is still breathing. He doesn't seem to be bleeding out. (He is at zero hps) Will Wynn deliver the death blow?

Angus, casts his detect magic and starts to look around. He sees the two pieces of staff and the magic quickly dimming from the two now normal sticks. He does see that the ogre leader seemed well equipped. Both the greatsword and a large steel shield are glowing with magic.

Angus assures Belkior he is among the living "I will make it good sire, but it not for the help of my friends that rock would have surely done me in. Did you see how big it was. Look it is over there." Angus points it out.

Angus will concentrate on the magic shield and sword of the ogre to see what he can determine of ther magic.

Angus will fly back to the dwarves and attempt to converse with them in dwarvish again. "So what is your story?"

"Maybe we can use the chains on those Dwarf Guys, Wynn," the girl rogue suggests. "If someone would, like, cut 'em off or sump'in. Last time I looked they were, like, welded on."

"Hey, you!" Xenia holds her side as she raises an angry arm at the Dwarves-Who-Don't-Say-Nothing. Something wrong with them. Little weirdos. The rogue eyes them real careful like.

"Whassamatter with you? Why'ncha say something?" She shakes her head in resignation. That hurts too.

"I'm gonna check out this other tunnel. Make sure ain't no one else coming." Limping through the air, Xenia peeks cautiously into the tunnel to see just what's up that it needs guarded by two giant wolves.

The Crimson Shields argue over the fate of the giant. Angus calls for blood and a quick death while Wynn calls for a more diplomatic approach and possibly gathering some information.

Others still frustrated at the silent dwarves look over to see the dwarves carefully climbing down the scaffolding. They seem to be in bad shape,(all three are pathetically skinny.) and they take mincing steps as they move towards the group. Xenia sees that they are wearing very short chains on their legs as well and then notices something even worse. I thin wire circles each dwarves head and enters the mouth at each side.

Upon closer inspection they realize that two barbed hooks pierce each of the dwarves' tongues. If they try to talk, it obviously cuts them and causes them great pain. One steps forward towards Xenia his eyes pleading for aid but still he doesn't say anything.

Xenia doens't make it to the tunnel as one of the other dwarves collapse at her feet.

30 seconds have gone by during this conversation and realization. Lang was able to do his curing.

"Thanks, Bin." Xenia takes the first deep breath since the rock came out of nowhere and crushed her side.

"Wynn's right, Angus," the slim rogue tosses over her shoulder as she turns to the Mysterious Tunnel. "We could maybe capture some of the Orcies down the mountain, but they don't look like they know much of what's going on. The Big Guy there. He looks like he's maybe running things out here."

"Thing is, though, he don't look very ... oh stars ... "

The dwarves climb down off of the Scaffold Thing and the reason they aren't talking is just really hard to bear.

"Uh ... Belkie, Bin. I think were gonna need you over here. These Dwarf Guys look really not so good. Oh stars and planets, look at what they put on 'em. Um, um ... " The red-headed rogue slips a packet of tools from her haversack. " ... I'm gonna try and foozle these things around their heads." Out of the kit come a pair of cutters and a pair of pliers. "Gonna try not to hurt 'em." Pliers grip while Xenia lines the cutters up. "But you better be ready, just ... in ... cast ... "

Angus looks directly at Wynn "We have have problems like this before and they have come back to bite us in the backside before. I do agree that we should attempt to interrogate the giant before killing it, but how speaks stone giant as I am not sure it speaks common. The priest is concerned for the dwarves, of that there should be no doubt, but his main concern is danger and if they can't help in a fight, they better not get in the way if one occurs also. Seeing Belkior tend to the needs of the dwarf's allows Bin to continue healing.

As he tends to Angus again, he says, "I am not one to destroy that which is not evil, if unconcious, despite how much my feelings tell me it's OK." "Domi please heal this champion of good."

Hearing the debate, he comes up behind Angus, "Seems like we've faced this decision before back when Florin was here and we paid for it. So I can see where you are coming from. However, restraining him is the right thing to do. We can always ask the dwarves opinion. If this particular giant is responsible for their pain, then they can deal with him. The authorities aren't the only form of justice but I don't think we are."

As syr sees the weakened condition of the captives, he tells Belior, I need 1 more heal but take care of them first. They need it more.

Lang gives Sunshine's head a quick rub as the dog becomes conscious and stands up.

"Good job boy. That was a tough battle."

The two of them hustle over to where the rest of the Shields have gathered around one of the stone giants. Lang listens to the conversation concerning the fate of the giant as Belkior cures a lot of his damage. Lang taps Sunshine with the curing wand one more time.

"I am all for bringing evil in to the authorities for justice. And I think we are all in agreement that something wrong is going on here. However, I am not sure that we can safely secure and transport a stone giant back to Plateau City. I doubt we will be able to find ropes or chains that are strong enough to bind the creature. In my opinion, it would be best to end the creatures life before it regains consciousness. "

"Remember we still have to deal with 50 half-orcs. If they come upon us while we are moving the giant, they will undoubtedly try to free him."

Hopefulyl having prevented the killing of the helpless giant, Belkior moves over to the dwarfs. Once Xenia has removed the devices preventing them from speaking, Belkior will heal each of the dwarfs.

Xenia goes to work on the poor dwarves mouths with wire cutter and pliers but even being gentle and careful, she can tell she is causing them agony. After several minutes of careful manipulation all three of the dwarves are free and then Belkior heals them.

After much touching of their tongues and swallowing, one of the dwarves speaks up, "Thank you for your kindness and our rescue. My name is Bern Stonewright and these are my companions Drogin and his brother Pillin. We have been captives for a very long time." The dwarf pauses and holds up a hand and calls, Pillin Stop!"

Pillin had walked calmly over to the comatose giant and slams his hammer down on the fallen giants throat crushing it and ending the stone giants life. He then spits on the giant and says, "I hope your Gods send you back as a flea on an stray mongrel's butt!" Pillin starts kicking the giant in the head and pauses and looks up in an almost crazed stare. "Where is the Ogre Mage Discord? I owe him for those damn tongue hooks!"

His arm still badly injured, the bard is too slow to stop the dwarf's revenge and can only look on in shock as Pillin slams his hammer down on the helpless giant.

"Perhaps you can tell us what has been going on here. Who is this 'Discord'? Is that the ogre mage we killed earlier, or are there more than one?" He directs his questions at the dwarf.

Wynn takes the opportunity to begin healing himself while awaiting an answer [2 x Cure light wounds=26 HP]

"Who thinks these things up?" Two fingers gingerly gripping one of the Tongue Hook Contraptions, the girl rogue eyes the mechanics of the thing. *eew* She wrinkles her dark nose before tossing the thing, crusted in blood and old flesh, onto the small stack made by the other two.

"Hey, um, Bernie Dwarf Guy," Xenia hooks at thumb at the unexplored tunnel, "maybe you can tell us what's down that way, huh?"

Bin watches the dwarf kill the giant and the while thinks to himself, {{Justice is served by those they tortured, such is the war of good vs. evil. When neutrals take part, they become a part of it and share the same fate.}}

We will indeed need to set up a guard. The half orcs will likely be bringing these guys their food and such, being lesser being then the ogres and giants."
Looking over at Sunshine, he see's the injured animal and in a friendly tone an uncle uses with their young nieces and nephews, "Good boy, you did a good job, yes. Come here boy, come on."

He rubs the dogs haunches as he casts, "Domi will heal this champion of good. Yes he will. Yes he will."

Bin does a triage check to see who is most hurt at this time.

Lang goes about collecting anything of value and making a pile near the tunnel back to the outside. He keeps an ear out for Xenia and Syr if they start yelling.

The Crimson Shields reaction to Pillin's killing of the giant are diverse and varied. From disgust to indifference to actual gratitude. One wonders what would have happened if the group had to decide between themselves what the course of action should have been. Could it have caused a rift between its members?

Belkior's appraisal of Pillin is that there is one very angry dwarf. Looking at him doesn't suggest that he is unstable or insane but who knows what kinds of torture he has endured and what it has pushed him too.

When Xenia asks her questions, Bern Stonewright steps forward and says, "Their is another chamber back there where the stone giants made their foul nest. It is empty of giants and ogres. You have killed all of the murderous beasts. This whole place was to be my uncle's summer home. His name is Torvic Stonewright and he is a merchant and stone cutter high in the councils of the Plateau City. He built the lodge down below for his human guests but this area was supposed to be for dwarves. At least until those damn giants showed up! Been here about a month now.

I can't thank you enough for freeing us. You mentioned that the half orcs are still alive? Obviously you are adventurers of note and power. Why didn't you drive them off? I am sure my uncle would reward you if you did. I am sure he will reward you for saving our lives. I am one of his favorite nephews." The dwarf almost preens as much as a dwarf can preen who has been tortured for a month.

As the group gather loot in this room, they find 3,000 gps in gold, silver and copper.

OOC: Angus has detect magic active and is still waiting for result of his concentration on the magic items found on the ogre leader: type and strenght. The spellcraft rolls we done three posts ago.

Angus after taking a long look at both the sword and shield determines that standard strenghtening spells seem to be on both items and the shield seems to have the more powerful magic.

Bin looks to the dwarf nephew of the owner, "Is there a back way in or a secret tunnel into the place? I know you dwarves are crafty like that and it's not likely those stupid bafoons could find such artisan work."

Xenia pads to the corner with the weapons rack in absolute silence. Then she drops the pebble.

"Didn't see nothin'." she reports upon returning. "Um, I'm gonna wanna sack the Foul Nest 'afore we go anywhere, yeah?" And the rogue hooks a thumb back in the direction of the unexplored tunnel.

"Tanks, Bin," she says as the Domian blesses her, taking away the last of the pain and smoothing her skin of injury.

The girl rogue takes a brief casual glance at the dead giant who slugged her with a rock. fHuh. "Too bad we couldna gotten some info from him first," is the only comment she makes.

"Hey, Bernie, if you're from Plateau City, you know Ashbeard of the Von Otten group? We done work for them just a few weeks ago."

Without waiting for an answer, she pads back toward the tunnel. She produces a empty gray sack and draws out a small ball of fur. A toss to the ground, and the ball becomes a flat four legged creature with a black and white face.

"Hello, cute little Mister Badger. Gonna need you to check something out for me." Pointing to the mouth of the tunnel, Xenia gives the command. "Seek." She follows the Badger's progress, then, with eyes and ears.

Lang finishes piling the discovered coins near the weapons taken off the Ogre leader. He watches as Xenia disappears down the tunnel towards the Giants nest. It appears that all the enemy have been killed off so the only danger will be from the outside.

"Sunshine and I are going to check out the front of the cave entrance. We will drag the 2 dead Ogre's into the cave to get them out of sight. Anyone want to help?"

Lang and Sunshine head back to the front of the cave. Hmm this stone wall wasn't here before. He piles up some tables to help the smaller folk climb over the wall.

Once at the front Lang drag's the dead bodies inside and down the tunnel a ways.

He then moves to the front and looks around for the half-orcs.

Although Bin is still wounded, he is more concerned about the others. He walks to the liberated slaves and assists Belkior with their wounds as he waits for a response about a back entrance to the fort.

"Just how many ogres and half orcs are there?" the bard asks the dwarves. "And where do the ogre mages have their quarters, I'd like to find out who they've been dealing with in the city. There may be some papers or letters that would provide us a clue."

Feeling the change come upon him, the troll downshifts into his normal self before realizing that he forgot to change out of his clothes before Angus cast the spell initially. Slightly embarrassed at the tatters he is now wearing, he gets his last set of clothes from the backpack and quickly dons his simple garb.

Already near and watching the cave entrance, Syr steps in beside Lang as he leaves the scene of the battle. "Do you think we cut off the head of the snake? Will the orcs run when they find out their leaders are gone? And more importantly, do we let them?"

Xenia goes exploring and discovers the tunnel is around 70' long and again nice and smooth. Obviously cut with a loving dwarf's hand. The room opens up to a nice chamber around 30 x 30.

The room has a large bed, a dresser, a mirror and a large chest in it.

The rest of the group explores the rest of the ogre cavern and continues to loot and ask questions of the dwarves. Syr shrinks back down to his own size and is happy to discover that his clothes are intact. He didn't take a good look while polymorphed but his clothes were absorbed into the change.

Wynn questions the dwarves about the numbers of half orcs and Pillin says, "A lot less when I get my hammer into them but I think the number flucuates. Orcs are never steady creatures. Still around 50 or so I would guess."

When Xenia asks StoneWright about the dwarven merchant in the Plateau he acknowlegdes that he knows the merchant but they aren't close. The family does some business with them.

The group discusses their plans and Angus brings up what is to happen next. Do they press the attack, or wait til morning?

Angus looks around at the tired Crimson Shields "I say we rest and have at them in the morning. I will take first watch with the disiples of Domi and Alemi."

Angus looks to the dwarves "See how you can outfit yourselves for the morning and the confrontation with the orcs."

Angus pulls out his flute and plays a happy tune "Wynn can you add to my notes?"

Angus will detect magic on any new stuff Xenia happens to find, the the searching he leaves to the rouge. Angus sits down to while away the afternoon with his flute.

A Mirror!!!

"HEY GUYS! There's a mirror in here!" A Giant size Mirror. Wow. Wouldn't that be sump'in to have in our room back on the Float. Wouldn't that just be sump'in.

"And there's a chest too. I'm gonna try and open it."

"Hey, little badger guy," the rogue kneels next to the small black and white animal that she had pulled out of the sack, stroking the fur on it's head, "we're gonna open this chest, huh?"

"But lets give it a little look see first," she whispers to herself. Switching from her lenses to a worn pair of work Goggles, Xenia gives the chest a close once over for the signs of traps, magic or otherwise. "Spiderhole traps ... Didn't Bin say something about ... spiderhole traps?"

Laying her kit out neatly on the floor, the rogue gets ready to go to work on the lock. [i]Hmmm. This may take a while.

It feels much better to be healed. The wounds are healed and going from pink to normal is quick fashion. Lang continually checks on Sunshine as he got close to losing his four footed friend, not to mention all his two footed friends as he was on deaths door as well. The normally quite ranger does not say much, but plays with Sunshine to pass the time.

Sunshine recovered quickly from the battle has is having fun playing fetch with his master.

Lang finally speaks up when it comes to guard shift "Syr, you and me at thrid shift? You can tell me all about being a troll."

Spot 11 (natural 1) Lang is just too happy that he and Sunshine are alive.

Assuming nothing happens, he takes the watch with Lang and shares a whispered exchange, "You know, the troll thing isn't all that bad. I really felt all powerful. I gotta admit in that troll form, those giants didn't scare me at all." With a slight grin, "However, the flying pixie thing is probably more fun. Just darting around and between trees is pretty neat."

"So do you think we are half done with these guys? What do you think are the chances of making them run. Today's fight wore us out. I dunno if we want to give them a rematch?"

Bin curses with the toughts of rest. "What in hades are you guys talking about rest for? For all we know, a couple of them were notified when the giant came from the outside. They could be making off with the loot and the hostages while we sleep. Perhaps we should at least check in on them to see their activity level before we rest?"

"As far as rest goes, I think it wiser to have the priests on different shifts."

"Lets walk," Belkior offers to Pillin the dwarf. "Terrible things happen sometimes to the least deserving. Alemi knows this. It's Alemi's reason for being."

"Tell me, do you have family in Plateau City? Thankfully you'll live to return to them, won't you?"

Alemi knows, healing does not always stop at the body. This one is still gravely injured. Hopefully, with care and patience, he will be willing to talk of his pain. Then, perhaps, he will begin down the road to true healing.

Wynn keeps a careful eye on Xenia, making sure she doesn't get into any trouble as she investigates the giant's sleeping quarters. When Bin expresses his concern about the other captives and whether the orcs will run before teh night is through, the bard offers to sneak down towards the long house and see what is going on.

Angus start playing soft music trying to relax everyone. Most seem willing to go along with it until Bin speaks out. He wants to go and attack the 1/2 orcs tonight concerned on how they might react tonight.

Wynn offers to go take a look and sneaks away into the night to see what he can see.

Xenia is happily looting and after much poking and prodding, studying and head scratching discovers that the chest doesn't have any traps. In fact it doesn't have any locks! When she finally opens it she is glad she did. One side of the chest is filled with gold coins. The other side holds 10 potions.

Wynn after some stumbling around in the dark finally makes it to the longhouse. Things look very quiet but he does smell smoke.

Angus whiles away the time and when Wynn goes off investigating he comments "You should take someone with you just in case and do not engage. Information only."

To Bin "I understand you concern, but the orcs are better at night than some of, especially me. There is a better chance of me hurting captive, if I can not see them. I say we wait a bit longer and at least see what Wynn can tell us."

If Xenia tells Angus of the potions he will attempt to identify them.
